When leaning on laptop, dvd reader/burner makes a whirring sound and a click sound!

Question: When leaning on laptop, dvd reader/burner makes a whirring sound and a click sound!

Whenever, I lean on the Lenovo Fle 2 15 to type, on the right where the dvd burner/reader makes a whirring and then a click sound. This is so annoying when I am typing or just leaning on the keyboard.

Preferred Solution: When leaning on laptop, dvd reader/burner makes a whirring sound and a click sound!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: When leaning on laptop, dvd reader/burner makes a whirring sound and a click sound!

Dear Apad121

Are you sure that this sounds are comming from the optical driver ( DVD rom ) ?

Let me know

Thanks

Hey guys we recently had power outage and when I went to turn on my computer it made this loud whirring sound 5 minutes after I started it up. Now it does it whenever I turn it on.

So I shut down the PC and I'm checking around on what to do.

Oh and if it is important I don't really turn off my PC unless I have to install some software or drivers or something. I hope that isn't the cause.

I got the computer about 3 or 4 months ago. I don't know exactly what brand it is but I know that the processor is an Intel core duo(the guy who gave it to me told me it was a Quad core) There are no labels on this computer. It has a clear window with blue lights inside it. I know that it is water cooled and has a Geoforce Gt 8500. I was told to replace the coolant inside the PC once every year but I haven't had it for that long so I don't think it is that. I'm sorry I can't exactly identify what type of computer it is.

To sum it up, after power outage computer makes loud whirring sounds when being turned on and I would really like to know what is going on.

Here I took a few pictures of it plus I checked my bios to get more info.

Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz
Intel EM64T capable

Vista 64bit

Also the front mounted audio input wires are unplugged for whatever reason. Anyone know where/how I can plug these in?

Hello Geeks!

Recently my 2 year old CD/DVD burner (NEC) has started making a clicking sound when spinning a CD (it's especially noisy with burned CDs) as well as accessing newly loaded CDs and DVDs rather slowly. Any idea what this might be a sign of?

Not sure what other info you might need on this, but let me know if there this.

Thanks

My assumption of this issue is that my USB reader is making a false reading of what ever device that isn't connected. It also seems to affect my PC performance when it happens. I disconnected all of USB devices on my Desktop PC, but it kept making those sounds. I also used this tool called USB Log View to determine what is it trying to read. I tried to disable the device that showed up through usage of Device Manager, but it didn't work. I attached the screenshot so if you can tell anything from it let me know.

Answer:USB reader occasionally makes plug/unplug sound

If I were you, I would start by checking all of your drivers and making sure that they are updated, especially the USB drivers. I can't promise that this will fix your issue, but I've seen several people complain about the plug/unplug sound and many of them have been fixed by certain drivers being updated. You should be able to check them for updates within Device Manager. You can also try going to your motherboard's manufacturer's website and downloading them from there.

Every now and again my hard drive makes a click sound followed by a woosh as if its working on something
I've ran Western Digital Diagnostic Tool and it was given a pass.
So are those sounds normal, or ?
cheers

Answer:Hard drive makes click followed by woooosh sound?

The woosh could be a fan speeding up to cool the processor if you have any programs running. Next time have a look in Task Manager processes and Performances to see what if anything could be running.
One of my WD harddrives makes a fizzing noise when it is busy - been like that since new (now 6 years old) other ones don't.
Has the click only just started and it didn't do that before?

I looked through a few threads here on this forum that have a similar title but most of what I read isn't helping me. So I started a new thread.

My laptop makes a clapping sound every now and then. It is definitely not a hardware problem, it's coming from the speakers. I can mute it, increase/decrease volume etc.

It isn't a regular interval at which it happens. Sometimes the sounds are as closely spaced as 5 or so seconds, sometimes half an hour but mostly they happen every 2-3 minutes. There is no visual cue as to which software is causing this sound to come.

I tried looking through the processes that are running but that doesn't seem to be helping too since everything seems quite legit. This problem has started happening only since the past couple of days and is extremely frustrating when I am trying to work.

Can someone here help me as to how I should go about figuring which software is causing these sounds to come?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Laptop makes a clapping? sound every so often

Open Task Manager and write down or take a screenshot of what processes are running after you hear the sound.

Hello,
Wondering if someone can help me? I have a brand new Sony Vaio with Vista. This computer makes a clicking noise that is the same sound as when I click on something to open it, but it makes this noise on its own (while I type this message it is doing it, when my screen saver is on and nothing is running it does it). I can't see any programs running in the back ground..... anyone know what might be the cause?

Thanks!

IT sounds like a new web page is openedIT only makes this noise when i am connected to the internetMy OS is windows 7, HP 620, internal ram is 2gb. Using SuperAntiSpyware and Norton internet security also spybot search and destroy.

Answer:My laptop makes a clicking sound on its own

SAS and Spybot are both antispyware and you should not use them both. Secondly, Spybot is outdated so you should keep SAS and add another anti malware software  http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free. Make sure to uninstall Spybot then try making a full scan on SAS and Mbam alternately after updating both security softwares.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

Hi, i am using DEL Inspiron 15 since Feb'14 and there was no issue till yesterday, when my laptop wont start and is making beep sound (7 beeps) on power up. Can you please help.

Answer:My laptop won't start and makes beep sound

Seven beeps usually means CPU Cache test failure or Processor failure. I like to suggest removing the battery from system and see if that will make a difference. Please follow steps below:
1. Power off the system. Remove all peripherals from the system, remove AC adapter and then battery.
2. Press the "Power On" button for 15 seconds to release Static Flea Power. Replace battery, and adapter, and then power on system. Hopefully computer starts normally and there're no more beeps.

I've tried changing the drive letter, but that doesn't help. The usb appears in the storage management window but states no media. Also, the computer recognizes the flash drive in printer and devices. But from that window all i can do it dismount the flash-drive.

The problem started Friday afternoon. That morning I loaded a document. When I went to print it at Office max that afternoon, the file wasn't in the folder and the other documents appeared to be in a unreadable programs. When the employee tried another computer, the same thing. When I got home, the thing won't even load.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

My laptop: Asus K52JR with Windows 7 Ultimate, Intel Core i3 CPU M350 2.27 Ghz, 3 Gb of RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

The problem is that the laptop freezes and makes a sound (from speakers), like a broken Audio CD, then bsod and restart.

First time I had this problem - two weeks ago - I sent it back to be repaired. They changed my HDD. Because my Windows wouldn't start and it appeared a message about hardware/software problem. I mention that the first time when it freezed I was watching a movie and downloading something with uTorrent. It crashed and I got bsod. But it and worked fine after. Another time (when my laptop eventually didn't start anymore) I was playing an online browser game and downloading something with uTorrent. I didn't got a bsod. I had to force it to shut down.

Now, after they installed a new HDD, it worked for two days. But again it freezed, maked a strange sound and restarted. This time I was playin the same online browser game, I was talking with people through Team Speak 2 and downloading something with uTorrent.

I said all these details because I don't know much about computers, and I wish someone could detect my problem.

Did my searching and couldn't find this one...

When I modify the speaker volume using the "Volume Mixer" icon, it generates a sound. When I adjust using the "Speakers/Headphones" icon, it does not make a sound.
I would like to mute the Windows 7 sound that happens when I adjust the sound, preferably without effecting the other system sounds? I can't find out which system 'event' it is that causes a sound to be generated when I modify the speaker volume. I'd like to mute it, i.e. no sound when I change the volume.
thanks

Whenever I try to boot this computer up(Win XP Home SP1(should I have put 2 on? It just came out )) it gets past the Windows XP splash screen and either displays a blank screen and crashes or shows the login screen and crashes. When it crashes, I hear a "click-click" sound coming from my case, somewhat reminiscent of a clock.
I run AVG on it, so it shouldn't be a virus, but I don't trust AVG; it seems very unreliable. I knew Norton should be on it
Previously the computer generally booted up(maybe an 80% chance of booting successfully) and only crashed when I ran a selection of applications. For instance, Kazaa Lite seemed to aggravate the crashing, then a week later Direct Connect started to aggravate it as well. That leads me to believe it may be a problem with my alternate drive, since both of those programs access that drive(mostly downloaded files), because sometimes removing it and booting up will solve the problem.
Anyways, what the heck do I do?

Answer:Windows XP computer refuses to boot up; makes "click" sound.

Question: Whirring Sound?

Last night I went to download the update for WoW. Anyway, my hard drive and fan seemed to be spinning very high. Towards the end of the download, I heard a "whirring" or "whistling" sound, which sort of faded in, got a little loud, and then faded out. It did it about 3 different times, but hasn't done it since. Is this an indication that something is wrong with my hard drive? Or could it have been the cooling fan? My first hard drive that crashed would give me a clicking sound, but this was a high-pitched whirr or whistle. Any ideas?

Answer:Whirring Sound?

put your hands near the fan when its on, does it feel really hot or just warm?
if its really hot, then its the fan or heatsink

i wouldn't think its the hard drive making that sound, but i could be wrong.
is the side case screwed on tightly?

Hello guys, I've had the freezing problem for months and so far no solution. My laptop runs fine when I play games, or browse, as long as i don't watch videos or listen to music, it doesn't mind if online or from my drive. Tried different software but no luck. I would think it's hardware, but i don't have this problem on linux.I ran windows 8 for a few days, didn't see the freezing there, but I don't like the OS.
I think the problem is with the audio drivers or something, I tried old and new ones, but no result.
I am running win7 ultimate 32bit (64 doesn't help either). My laptop is Acer Extensa 5635zg. I attach the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 report+ the everest report inside the zip, where you can find the hardware information about my laptop.
Laptop has been running fine for 2 years, I've had it for 3.
Thank you in advance!

I must mute my laptop's audio due to an awful noise that sounds like a fan blade hitting something how can I fix this?

Answer:Laptop sound doesn't work properly makes a fan noise

Assuming the laptop is not brand new, you probably have a build up of dust in your laptop's cooling paths and heat sink(s). You can confirm this by installing HWMonitor and confirming the system's temperatures at idle and during use. You need to blow out the dust with a can of compressed air that you can purchase at a computer store or office supply store. Just blow the air into all of the vents and carefully into the easier opening access panels they supply. If this does not help, you MAY have either too much dust build up and may have to open the system or have it cleaned out professionally, or (less likely), another obstruction hitting the fan's blades.Post back results for more advice. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Wasn't sure which section to put this one under.

On startup the computer makes a continual loud whirring sound (which could be the hard drive) which doesn't stop. Also an unusual start sequence is displayed on the screen which is American Megatrends BIOS.

The only way to stop the annoying whirring sound is to do a complete Restart and it seems BIOS doesn't open again.

The problem seems to be becoming more and more frequent.

Any idea what causes it?

I have an HP computer, about 4 months old, and have been having a problem shutting it down. When I do start, shut down, it turns almost all the way off (i.e. monitor goes to sleep, blank screen, etc.) however the blue light on the power button stays on. I then have to hold it down in order for it to shut off.

Another issue I have been having lately is a whirring sound inside my CPU. It almost sounds as it does when the computer is trying to read a cd, but there is nothing in the drive. I don't know much, but do computer's have fans? It has been really hot here lately, could that be what it is?

Some other things: I have windows XP. My roommate just connected a wireless router (Linksys) to my computer to use with her laptop (the router is brand new). The whirring sound seems to have come about at the same time as the router...could the two be related?

Let me know if there is any other information I can/should provide.

Thanks! Lisa

First post, hope I'm doing this right.Hi guys, about 3 weeks ago I purchased a Lenovo ideapad 110. It's a great laptop, however, about a couple weeks ago, the laptop started making a loud grinding/buzzing sound when playing audio. The sound only lasts for second, but it's quite jarring, to the point where I have to take out my earphones and take a break from what ever I was watching/listening to. It also happens without earphones, so those aren't the problem. YouTube is when it mainly occurs, however other sites with audio have it too. I've tried playing with the audio settings and updating the drivers, it worked for a few days, but the sound has returned. My previous laptop, a hp did this too, but never this frequently, so what exactly is this? It seems as if the DVD player is working really hard to get the disc going and I am definitely sure that while it may make some sound while playing the DVD, it is not supposed to buzz this loudly and make the whole laptop shake this much. Is it possible I can get this fixed? I have a Vista OS operated computer and just lately I have begun to hear a loud whirring sound coming from the back of the tower. It only lasts as long as the computer takes to start up and then the tower is its usual quiet self. I think it is coming from one of the fans at the back but when I put my hand against them they are still giving out cold air. Can anyone help with what the problem is and how I can solve it?

Answer:Loud Whirring Sound from Back of Tower

Have you tried cleaning dust and fluff out of all the fans and that includes cpu fan and graphics card fan where fitted? Disconnect from power and use a soft long hair brush on fans. If you then get a can of compressed air, liated here as Ambersil Air Duster, click here and blow the dirt away. Use air spray as lightly as possible as you can get some condensation from it. Leave for half an hour to ensure that it is perfectly dry and then restart computer.

I have a DELL XPS laptop that makes beeping sounds and the screen is still black after I pressed the power button.
It makes 5 beeping sounds per interval and goes on until it shuts itself down. What should I do and who should I contact to help me fix my laptop?

Answer:My Laptop Makes Beep sound when I press power button and it wont Start

Hi AhLong
Thanks for writing to us.
5 beeps usually means CMOS failure, now it could be the battery failure or the motherboard failure. If your system is under warranty we can get it repaired or else you can check with a local Dell authorized repair center and get it checked.
You can try another CMOS battery if available.
Do provide us your system tag#, email address and name via private message.

Well - let's see - I have a Dell XPS 410 Intel Core 2 (1.866GHz) 4MB cache, 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM a little over 4 years old. I have plenty of free space and have defragged and recently ran a full disk clean - no viruses or malware present.
My problem is that my computer will start making a whirring sound and the hard drive activity light comes on and during this period of time, everything is very slow and even typing is difficult. While it is whirring, I cannot easily do searches or any work on my computer until it stops. Sometimes this can go on for a long time and happens many times daily.
I am running XP Pro and IE7 which are are up to date.
Short of getting a new computer - I need suggestions as to what this could be and would appreciate any help!
Thanks!

Answer:Whirring Sound & Hard Drive Acitivity Light Is On

This is a warning that the days to run your hard disk is numbered.

When a corruption develops, say by a dust particle trapped in the read/write head, some sectors of the hard disk becoming difficult to read. The operating system is obliged to try the instruction several times and so that is why everything is slowed down.

If the hard disk is allowed to continue to spin it is equivalent to running it to the ground. I would retrieve the data inside if it is valuable.

The disk will eventually reach a stage that it is no longer readable. The system then cannot mount it and you may then complain that it is not detected.

A hard disk should be viewed as a "consumable". Every unit is guaranteed by the manufacturer by a finite number of hours of operating cycles without causing errors. It has to die eventually.

I already tried contacting technical support, but I didn't get much help there, so maybe someone here can help. I have a brand new HP Pavilion g7-2270us laptop, and it makes an annoying click sound inside of it.  On average, I would say it makes this sound every 20 -30 seconds, but some times it does it more often or more spaced out.  It's just one click at a time, but it's irritating nonetheless.  I can't tell where it's coming from (sounds like the left side possibly), but I know it's not coming from the speakers and it's not from the disc drive (that makes a different sound). This is the second laptop of this model that I've had because the first one made this same noise.  I thought that returning it and getting a replacement would solve the problem, but this laptop is doing the same thing. Any ideas what this could be and what I could do to fix it?  Or is this a normal sound that I just need to get used to?

Answer:Brand new Pavilion g7 laptop making annoying click sound

So can anyone help me or not?  I am already disappointed that when I contacted HP's "Technical Assistance", it was basically useless and was no help at all.  This is my first experience using HP, and after 2 HP laptops in a row making this noise and not getting any help to help me figure out what this noise is or how to stop it, I'm about ready to send this laptop back too and try another brand.

I have a Dell Latitude D630 laptop that really hasn't seen a lot of use but it has this problem:

If I press on the lower left Shift, Ctrl, Fn or Win key, the whole keyboard bottoms out and makes a ker-plunk sound once it unflexes. If I lightly touch the keys, everything's fine. With normal use, the annoying ker-plunk is there.

Is this something that can be fixed?

Thank you.

So i listen to music on itunes and I put it on max volume, then like 20 min of me listening to music it suddenly freezes and makes a LOOOOOOOOUD sound that I can't exactly describe, its like a horn sound?? Well anyway's its very loud and the laptop gets frozen so there isn't anything I can do except press the off button to restart my laptop. Whats wrong with it? I barely got my laptop 4 months ago! And this problem only happens when I'm listening to music please help? :]]

Also I have enough ram because I barely install anything and I don't have many files like music and pictures saved on my laptop either :)

Answer:Whenever I play loud music, my laptop freezes and makes a LOUD sound??

Your computer may be overheating. Blow all the fans out with a can of compressed air. Consider a laptop cooler.
Does this happen if you listen to music through headphones?

Hi, There is a strange, very loud intermittent buzzing/screeching noise from the fan of  HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15-n024nr Notebook PC (Model #:F4G16UA). A few days ago the fan started running very loudly. Now suddenly the fan is making a loud noise as it turns on, then it stops (& its silent), then again the noise of fan running and suddenly the loud screeching noise comes from the fan. When i put my hand on the bottm of the laptop on the left side, i can feel the vibrations during those loud buzzing/screeching noises. I ran the system diagnostics quick test and everything came out ok. I also did the components test. All components tested ok except 2 USB ports (which had stopped working earlier, so it was not a big surprise). Can someone help me fix this isue. This laptop is more than 3 years old, so there is definitely no warranty on it. Hope i can understand what is causing this strange noise from the fan. Thanks in advnce.

Ok, so here is the dilema. I have my computer, a dell dimension B110, and every once in a while, the computer will make this really nasty whirring noise, almost like something is overworking. it kinda sounds like a hard drive that maybe might be writing wrong or something, but i know that when i shut it down and sometimes when i go to boot it up, it will start up again with the whirring noise. I am not sure if it is a fan that might need to be replaced, or even a hard drive. I leave my computer on a lot, but the most it does in idle is download a few files here and there. Please someone help me to understand what the heck is gonig on. Again, the whirring noise happens when the computer is running normally for no reason sometimes, and also happens after i shut it down, when it is booting up, before the windows xp screen, first thing, it will start up again, takes a few times of shutting it down and restarting it before it will stop making the noise.

Answer:Computer Makes weird whirring noise........Not sure whats going on

Hi djkorn,I have had the same problem you had. I think that the cause of your whirring sound might be the fan that's acting weird. It also could be the harddrive, but I would take a look at the CPU fan first. You could try this:1) Open up your sidepanel.2) Look at the fan that's in the middle of your PC.3) Don't touch anything that could damage your PC severely.4) Take a screwdriver, and open up the fan. (Be careful you don't hit or touch anything with your bare hands. Always use a soft small blanket.)5) If there is dust caked on your CPU, then take a vacuum cleaner and suck everything up. There should NOT be any dust on your CPU.If the whirring after this still occurs then it's most likely your harddrive.

hi everyone, i have a 'benq' 48x CD writer, that is approx 6 months old. i bought a 100 pack of CD-R's (DISCRITE) from Ebuyer and have been trying to copy files of different types on different occasions from my HD to the CDS. but my CD writer 'whirrs' loudly when trying to write and then says unable to write to disc, may be unusable not if you quit. (through NERO) and sometimes i cannot remove the disc afterwards from the drive. this has happened with approx 50% of the cds i have used from the pack mentioned. HAS MY CD WRITER PACKED UP?thanks!

Answer:cd burner whirring and saying cds not writable

Have you tried a different brand of CD's? Some writers just don't like some brands of CD's. I have a Plextor which writes audio poorly to TDK disks, nothing wrong with either the drive or discs, but they just don't like each other.

Hi,
I don't know if this is related to 950 or W10M in general, but there is as hissing sound when I mark the box in order to start write e.g. in WhatsApp or in EDGE. In Whatsapp the sound sometimes remains on even after you have closed the app. I think it could be source of a battery draining or at least unnecessary waist of energy. The sound does not change if you adjust the volume and it remains on when you mute the phone. Does anyone else have this?

Hi i just noticed my monitor sometimes makes a high pitch whistling soound, should i be worried?

Is it like (this might sound stupid) leaking radiation waves or something which could be dangerous to me?

Answer:My monitor makes a sound!?!!?!

This is very common on all TVs and also large-screen monitors. The integrated high-voltage transformer (IHVT) has windings that are laminated in place under the black surface skin. Through age, heat, and vibration, the laminations deteriorate. What you get are 15KH noises that a lot of people…can't even hear. The reason you hear it coming and going is that different brightness [settings] require different currents through the transformer, [which] causes the laminates to start singing. You need a new IHVT.

This sound usually indicates that the monitor is on its way to equipment failure. I believe that a new or refurbished monitor is your best option, unless by chance, your monitor is still under warranty.

For your safety i would like to note......Do not open the monitor!
Computer monitors are a prime example of hardware that should be serviced only by qualified technicians. The electricity that builds up inside these units can kill you, plain and simple. Furthermore, even unplugged, monitors pose a serious threat; it can take days for the electric charge to dissipate from within one.

I suspect this is a hard drive idling. I have Win8.1 installed on one HD and opensuse on another HD. When I am using the Win8.1, sometimes I get a hissing sound from the case. The sound that the hardware makes when I shutdown the system, except there is no shutdown, no error, no flickering of the screen.

I see a lot of threads on other forums suggesting that this is a PSU issue. I hope that my brand new Corsair is not to blame. The last reply on this page suggests that it is the secondary drive shutting down to conserve energy. I would be perfectly fine with that but is there any case that going on-off it damages the drive? Should I cut the power to the drive completely?

Answer:PC makes shutdown sound

HI Sailor, long time not chat.

I would check in the power options and set the HDDs to always on (especially if a desktop PC) and location is Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings

Then scroll down the list to Hard Drives and set to always on > apply and reboot and test.

Welcome to Tech Support Guy

The first thing is to download and install SP3 as soon as possible
Support for XP with SP2 has finished and did so on July 13 2010
That means that no security updates etc have been offered to you since then

You may well find that SP3 will solve the issue for you

As you cannot of course connect you have two choices - one sort out the connection
1. If it is the wireless that will not connect - connect it hard wired from the ethernet port on the laptop
Also ensure that wireless is stwiched on on the Dell - usually Fn plus an F key

OR if you cannot

2. Download SP3 to another computer and then install to the Dell
http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=24

I know it says do not use on one computer but it will still work and t MAY solve the connection problem for you

3. If you are on broadband and you refer to the modem, as the modem/router provided by the ISP eg BT etc then it does not make a sound
If you refer to the modem in the computer that WAS used for a dial up connection and is not used on broadband
The computer has a modem port where a telephone line was connected for dialup and a ethernet connection I would think, where the line is connected for broadband from the modem/router provided by your ISP BT etc

YOU MUST not connect to the wrong port on the laptop

Additionally I cannot find a Dell Vostra 100 laptop where are you please as some models are only available in some areas
If by chance it is the Vostra 100... Read more

my lenovo laptop was running fine, but all of a sudden the sound started freaking out and about every second or so, the sound would cut out, and cut back in,

ex. im playing a video and the people are talking, but it sounds like
"th--- is h--- fin---- compu----" or something like that.

the weird part is, the speakers arent working, but when i plug in my headphones, sound starts working, out of the speakers, while the headphones are plugged in with no sound coming out of the headphones, and thats pretty strange. but it gets stranger, pretty much anything plugged into the audio jack would make the speakers start working, even if it is just an adapter for another thing, and not even a headphone...

so i checked the sound in the control panel, and i said that it "could not detect sound card, restart and it will try to find it" or something, so i restarted and the problem still happened, but this time, the control panel says that "your device is working properly" when its obviously not.

ive looked on the microsoft support page and followed the instructions, no help. lenovo support? no help.

ive tried running a troubleshoot on the audio playback, but it said that it could not detect the problem,

ive checked the device manager and under the video, sound and game controllers, it has listed "Conexant 20671 SmartAudio HD", and "Intel(R) Display Audio" and they both are listed as "working properly" (nope)... Read more

Hi there,

I have a problem with my Satellite M40X
Sometimes the fan makes odd sound, something like it had problem with moving
something like 'wrrrrr' and then it stops making the noise and works normally
What can be wrong ?

I also noticed that if I close the windows abnormally and restart it the fan is working full speed all the time
no matter how busy CPU is,
What can be the reason ?

Many Thanks

Answer:Fan of Satellite M40X makes sometimes odd sound

Hi mate,

doesn?t sound very healthy. I assume that your FAN has a serious problem and I think before starting a long discussion about it would be the best that you contact a authorized service partner in your country and send your machine to them since your problem is really hardware-related.

To find the nearest service center in your country follow this link:

Hi

I think it's my harddisk (Samsung HD501LJ), thought I am not sure. The sound is high pitched and comes only sometimes. But it certainly sounds like something is spinning. The sound goes in the interval of a sound per 1,4 second, or so. Sometimes it's a single sound, other times its double or even tripple. It continues sometimes for several minutes and then it can be quiet for some time. I have scanned it with checkdisk, and no probs.

Do you think it's the harddisk? Can this be a serious problem?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Something makes creaking/squeaking sound

It's probably your hard drive or a fan. When you're hearing the sound, carefully stick your finger in the fans to momentarily slow them down. If the sound goes away, then it's the fan.

You should also run Samsung's utility to test the hard drive. I've never used it before, so read the instructions carefully:

Hello everybody, first of all my apologizes for my approximative English, i haven't studied it for long and i don't use any translator. So why i post here ? Simple i searched since last week first on French forums and now here because i have no more options to solve my problem, i'm about to reinstall xp, this is the last chance i accord to this windows 7 ultimate "issue".

My laptop is a lenovo y510 with a sound chipset using the "realtek high definition audio drivers", on xp sp3 the quality was perfect, on w7 it's a mess. First there is a delay, for example i open a folder, i test the audio on the task bar, etc the sound takes approximatively +0.5 second to active himself, except when i play a continuous sound (music/video) here the sound appears in the normal delay, very strange...

Second problem, static, crackling, i can't listen music or any kind of sounds while i'm working (maximize a window, scroll a word/excel document, etc...).

Third problem, the worst, my onboard speakers (5.1) ALWAYS create crackling at the begging and at the end of any sounds, even when i plug the external speakers, and if i up the volume of my external at nearly maximum i can here the sound from my onboard too (weak but present) !

I tried everything people advised me, all drivers from 1.84 to 2.47 (include different compatibility) and windows updates ones, disable power management, powermizer, tried everything on the control panel in sounds settings, flash the bios, update ... Read more

Answer:Sound problem makes me crazy...

Some news, end the process audiodg.exe completely fix the whole problem...

I guess now this will be easier to answer, is this process vital for security or something like that ? How can i disable him from the start ? I don't want at any boot go to the task manager and end him manuely...

Thanks

Hello! Registered to ask help with this problem. My computer has been making odd buzzing sound under stress for some time now. It happens usually when I try to play newer games but sometimes just using web browsing or Youtube induce lesser sounds. I've changed CPU cooler, GPU and memory sticks during this time, and that hasn't changed the situation. Here's a recording of the sound: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0lzb1fnc9RK

I moved the phone around to locate the source of the sound and I think it's coming from bottom half, below GPU, possibly near PSU. Is there anyway to test if it's the PSU?

I'd appreciate the help, this has been bugging me for quite some time. I know I shouldn't wait around with a computer making disturbing noice, but what can I say.

(One detail I noticed is that Speccy gives my memory sticks speed as 933MHz when is should be double that.)

I have installed Windows XP because i had to get rid of Windows 7 beta(Because it keeps shutting down every few hour!) Now most things works pretty well, except for sound. I know that this have some thing to do with driver, does not show the volume speaker icon at corner.
I tried Google and i could not find anything useful to problem. Then now i have found this helpful community. I know most simple computer stuff but not drivers

If you can help, that would be great!

Thanks A lot.

Answer:Sound does not work, makes me maad

Go to the PC manufacturer's website for the onboard sound driver. If you have a separate sound card, go to the sound card manufacturer's website for their latest driver. If you have onboard sound for a custom built or self-built PC, go to the motherboard manufacturer's website for drivers. Without knowing which you have, I can't be more specific.

Hey guys.

Recently purchased a Gainward GTX 570 Phantom. When I start the computer up it makes a strange "clicking" noise. There are no loose cables or anything...+the gainward phantom fans are covered anyway!. I tried replacing its slot from pcie_1 to pcie_2 and same thing occured.

When I first bought it made the sound for about 30 mins. After I installed drivers and unistalled old AMD drivers and the let the computer run for a bit, the noise stopped.

However when I start the computer up now, for about the first minute I hear the same clicking noise>

I want to ask if is this something to be concerned about? Do some fans just sometimes make weird noises while "warming up"? I used GPU-Z and fan speeds+temp. seem perfect.

(P.S I have warranty, but I already had to RMA my last KFA2 GTX 570 and replace it with this last week, so unless its a potentially bad thing I dont really want to RMA it.)

Answer:GPU makes Clicking Sound On Startup

Well its not a normal sound so you definitely need to be concerned. There may be something in one of the fans or one of the fans may be faulty. Or it may be a power issue.

What is the brand, model, and wattage of your power supply?

Answer:Windows makes weird sound

Could this be the speakers are actually doing this and not the PC? Plug a headset in and see if you get the same thing.

As of a day ago my pc won't start. I hit the power button, lights turn on on the tower, the monitor shows nothing, and there is a very quiet repetitive buzzing sound coming from the speaker on the motherboard. I think it buzzes six times and then nothing. I can then hit the power button again and all the lights instantly turn off.
Yesterday I opened it up and blew it out (it was VERY dusty) but that didn't help.
Any ideas?

Answer:PC won't start and makes buzzing sound

Try another power supply.

The title explains the problem. I can't find anything that would set this off. Everything else seems normal. It's been doing this all morning. Probably, if I reboot, it'll stop - but I want to find the source of the 'bing.' How can I trace it down?

Answer:My PC makes a sound (bing) every five minutes

Not the typical tick, but may be the HD. Go to the website of your HD mfg and give the hd a test.

Ok, so I know what I've done is kinda stupid, but I'm a noob at hardwares so it just happened lol. Here is my problem: I opened up my pc today to clean it a bit. I'm 100% sure i haven't moved anything and haven't touched any important parts of the chips and stuff when doing it. Except for one of the fans, I removed it to be able to remove the dust. There's been some panel under it that i got curious about (I didn't know it's the CPU), and just removed the cover and took out the processor lol. After taking a look at it I put everything (including the CPU) back the EXACT same way it has been before, plugged in the power cable and tried to boot the system. But now all it does is making a steady beeping sound (short beeps, it ends when i switch off the computer), screens are black. The fans are working though.

So I suppose this problem is related to the fact that I messed with the CPU, but I swear I've put everything back the way it was before. Please, if anyone knows a solution for this problem, help me.

My CPU is an Intel Core 2 duo E4500.

Answer:PC makes beeping sound after I messed with CPU

remove the memory stick and clean it using a rubber eraser , then put it back in , hope this help

Anyone know if its normal for a cpu to make a quiet ticking sound when ac power is plugged in. This happens even with the bare motherboard/cpu on the bench with nothing else attached. It's a laptop, the machine died with no warning. Before disasembly there were no lights or any other activity when plugged in; could
hear this ticking sound, and took apart to find out what was making it.
I've never noticed a cpu by itself to make noise before.
Thanks in advance for any info.

UPDATE:
I removed the cpu and "YES" its still making the sound without it.
Anyway, I removed the cmos battery and left it overnight. After reassembling the laptop now the disk drive light comes on steady as soon as its plugged in. Still wont start. Light goes out a couple seconds after power disconnected. Now I dont hear the ticking sound anymore as well. Maybe its a bios problem.

Answer:CPU makes a quiet ticking sound

no the CPU isnt supposed to make any noises at all. Seeing as there are no moving parts in a CPU, the only reason it would be making a 'ticking' noise, is if you are actually hearing an electrical spark, which of course is bad news.

Whenever I run a certain video game, 5 minutes into it, an internal speaker repeatedly makes two annoying beeps, the first one is a high pitched beep followed by a lower pitched beep. It sounds like an old police siren. If anyone can tell me how to stop this I would be very grateful.

Answer:Need help with an annoying sound that my computer makes

I would try more cooling to start with.

Yesterday everything worked fine. After waking up and wanting to look at a video, it just started making loud noises and you couldn't make anything out what was being said or played.
Then i switched to my headphones, but the same thing happens there.

Hello,

For a while my computer have been making a electric leak like sound whenever the CPU usage gets high. However, lately it started to make it more often. For example with anti-virus searches and malware search softwares, the CPU usage goes up to 80 percent and this weird noise comes from the CPU.

This sound sample i have recorded for you to picture the sound. This was recorded with microphone very near to CPU. The background humming noise comes from the fan, but I am very certain that this leak-like sound does not come from fan because it does not have a specific pattern and only occur with high CPU uges. The CPU usage was around 80% in this recording.

rapidshare.com/files/336732081/buzzyNoise.mp3

For information, my configurations are:

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz
2 GB RAM
Motherboard MSI 915P/G Neo2 Platinium ed.

so not that bad.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer:CPU makes an electric leak like sound

P4 has always been a power hungry CPU, that said, I'd say you better check your PSU first, is it providing correct voltage on all the rails?

I've barely worked on my new B750. After upgrading to Windows 10 I've noticed a terrible sound accompanied with any notification. It shoulds terrible, like the speakers are busted, but they are not.  Any idea why this is happening?  Thanks!Heather

When i start playing a game (any game) and my temp. reaches 41 it starts beeping. My alarms are off in bios. I have a thermaltake skull case with the temp. sensors and i did unplagged it from power but the sound was still on. The weird thing is when i minimize the game, the sound goes off right a way, eventhough the temp. is still the same. The sound seems like to come out from the part where dvd and harddrives located along with my sensor thing.
Can anyone suggest what actions can be taken.

Thank you

Answer:My computer makes an Alarm like sound!!!!

When ever i play music my sound will crackle every once in a while. When i try to play some games the crackle will be constant. I put in a new sound card think that it was my onboard sound card causing the problem but it was not. I have all the volume controls set to 50% and it still does it. It does not matter what volume they are set at it still does it. If anyone knows what this could be please help me.

Answer:Sound Makes Funny Noises

So tell us something about the new sound card you put in and what speakers your are using.

Disconnect your current speakers and use headphones (as a test) does the crackle continue?

Yellow!

I am having this weird issue with sound card lately. It only happens on WinXP. Never happened on Win98, but i need to be using WinXP, cause of most applications.

When i run some applications, the sound gets rusty, cannot explain what the **** it means, or what is the source of the problem, cause driver is the same as on Win98, and on Win98 this has never caused problems like that.

The BSOD it caused resets my PC automaticlly.

Answer:Sound Card makes BSOD

Hi again,

There could be several things. Let's start by making sure that your PnP is set to "Disabled" in the BIOS setup menu. Also, many sound card drivers do not work on both the 98 platform and the XP platform. I would suggest that you search google and download the latest drivers that are XP compatible.

Also, might be good to list your motherboard type and general setup including the brand and model of sound card.

Hello!
My PS/2 keyboard makes a ticking sound with each keystroke. There is a different sort of click for alphabet keys, numbers and arrows. The same ticking sound is heard also when logging in or shutting down. The ticking sounds play for all users. I have tested a wireless USB-keyboard and there was no sound. I have not tested with another PS/2 keyboard yet.
Systems sounds are all off, but ticking continues. The clicking sound responds to volume control, e.g. volume off=no ticking.
The Filter Keys function in the Ease of Access center are un-ticked.

What could be causing the sound? Please help!

Answer:PS/2 keyboard makes ticking sound

It was the Asus Xonar DGX soundcard that was picking up interference from the PS/2 keyboard port. I don't know why it started doing it, but this appears to be a hardware problem instead of a Windows 7 problem. I switched to the mobos soundchip, and everything is nice and quiet when I type my important documents (or actually, play Skyrim).

Here lately when I turn my computer on, it makes a different beeping sound than usual. Sometimes it will not stop at all. This may have to do with overclocking but not sure. I was trying to reach 3.4ghz but never really could get it stable and that seems to be when it started. Right now I am at stock settings and it still does it. Does this mean there is a problem with my cpu or memory?

I also just reinstalled Windows Vista if that helps any.

Answer:Computer makes a different beeping sound

I did not see your mb in your sig. What do you have?

Love your case though.

First time when i used Privazer I experienced the Hell Side of my pc, Luckilly i had creaded a Privazer restorepoint and registry backup before the cleanup action was initiated. U can re-enable hibernation in the Advanced option >>Memory Indexing, followed by unchecking pagefiles.sys , this woul help regain some strength of ur pc. It will regain its speed after a few start ups as the cache memore is to be refilled.

I have a Western Digital 80GB/ 8MB cache hard drive and it makes a sound on boot. I just formatted the drive to zeroes with Dianostics Lifeguard Tools from WD and installed win xp pro with sp1. It sounds like the arm or what you call it is grinding or something. It happens when POST is done and the MBUltra133 BOIS tries to detect and when the screen goes to windows xp screen it sounds like the arm is at one side then rushes to the other side. It only make this sound at this point and never anywhere else. I have 90% free space and I just defraged it and still makes this sound. Is the drive needing to be replaced or do hard drives make this sound at this point normally.
