Lenovo Flex 2-15 Model Name: 20405 SSD and Wifi Module Upgrade - Need Help!

Question: Lenovo Flex 2-15 Model Name: 20405 SSD and Wifi Module Upgrade - Need Help!

I need help with upgrading my new Lenovo Flex laptop to an SSD drive, and a better wifi module. I have a Lenovo Flex 2-15, Model Name:20405 I tried to upgrade this laptop to an Intel SSD 530 120GB series using Intel's Data Migration Software and an external USB 3.0 SSD nclosure. It failed, the failure accures when the computer restarts and tries to copy the data from the hard drive to the SSD, the data migration software says that the USB 3.0 SSD enclosure fails to innitialize. I have tried two other, completly different USB 3.0 SSD enclosures and it fails with to innitialize all of them. I have also tried all the above scenarios with an Intel 730 Series 240GB SSD and it also failed. 1. How do I upgrade this laptop to an SSD? 2. Will this laptop support an m.2 7260.NGWWB Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11ac adapter?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I am new to the community and feel this is my best option for finding an answer. I will do my best to make this as simple as possible.  I would like to downgrade my machine to windows 7. I have an officially licensed copy of windows 7, have watched a number of "how-to" videos for performing this procedure, followed all necessary steps, and once my machine finishes loading the windows 7 files, it begins to boot up but freezes during the windows 7 start up animation. It then goes to a blue screen and tells me that the bios in the system is not fully ACPI compliant, and suggests I call lenovo for an updated bios. My questions: 1. Has anyone experienced this issue yet with windows 8.1 and this machine? 2. Does the compliancy of the bios have to do with windows 7 or my machine? 3. Can someone point me in the right direction to get this bios updated and windows 7 running on my machine? I hope I have provided all the necessary info and asked the right questions. If someone could help me, it would be very much appreciated. Please ask me any questions, I will try to provide all the answers that I can.  Thank You

I realised that the WiFi and bluetooth modules that comes with the Lenovo Yoga Flex 2 (Broadcom ) is very buggy and poor performing especially I can not use it in Linux environment and it is not detectable at all, so I bought an intel series WiFi+Bluetooth Module model"Intel 8260NGW" to upgrade my WiFi+Bluetooth performane and as soon as I start my Lenovo the I get following start up error from the BIOS."104 unsupported wireless network device detected".and noway the system boots up.I have googled and I realised that my Lenovo has a whitelist (I have no clue for what reason Lenovo has introduced such annoying AntiFeature and if they claim for Radio Incompatibility Enforcement I will reply that is just an excuse) but I got to know that the easiest way  to get around with their problem is to want Lenovo release a new firmware for the BIOS that will disable or at least add and support some of the new WiFi modules in the Market.I am really tired of the bundled broadcom moudle, and I will not use WiFi USB dongles as replacement. Please tell me what is the remedy for this antifeature and how can I get Lenovo support team to fix their problem.Or anyone else experinces same issues like meThanks

Hi I've recently purchased a T440s from eBay with the following #s:model: 20ARS34P00UPC : 888965189783 I can't find it on Lenovo PSREF listings, though there are other 20AR laptops. The seller says it has 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1080p IPS display, I5-4300U and Windows 7 OS. I can't find this model# + I can't find whether it has a TPM 2.0 module. I know it's stupid I've searched it only now, but still.Any clue? Thanks in advance

Answer:Lenovo T440S model# does not meet specs + TPM module?

Hi,PSREF contains descriptions for models a) with fixed specification and b) for certain country.Index "00" within laptop MTM doesn't refer any country. You can look at the manufactured laptop parts and their descripton using Lenovo service:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/ibasepartslookupType in laptop s/n.To be exact, descriptions might look unclear. If you'll need a help, post output table here and laptop parameters you'd like to confirm.

Answer:Lenovo Flex 2 14 model 20404, keyboard backlighting problem

For keyboard backlight sticker, is there a word 'optional'? I learn that if the space bar does not have a light icon, then there is no backlight. That's what I see from my Flex 2-15

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Unfortunately the GEforce Card is built in you cannot upgrade to another one, the only 2 things you can upgrade are the HDD & RAM.

Is your drive well defragged? That system should run fairly well. Run CCleaner, clean off some junk files. Make sure the power settings are configured for optimal performance.

The BIOS update went smoothly. But with the new BIOS version, no operating system is loaded. The Windows installation hangs in the "Starting windows" stage. Different Linux distributions are also not possible to install and also to boot into Live CD mode. The BIOS switched various modes, AHCI \ Compatible, Legasy \ UEFI. I tried different options. How can I now restore the old BIOS version?

Hi, I am using a hp pavilion x360 11-k110nd with a realtek RTL8723be network module, and intel pentium n3700 CPU .As I would like to benefit from AC wifi I was wondering if I could upgrade the module (to an intel ac7260 for example)? No idea what AC wifi cards would be compatible with the MOBO.I do realise I will have to open up the laptop, but I already replaced my HDD for an SSD so thats not an issue. Thanks in advance

Answer:Upgrade wifi module

Hi: From what I have read on this forum...Here are some potential minefields... 1.  I'm pretty sure the RTL8723be network adapter only has one antenna terminal. 2.  Most likely HP only installed one antenna wire in the notebook. You would need two antenna wires to connect to any dual band wireless card. 3.  I have read that some folks have tried to install the Intel 72xx AC cards in notebooks with the Pentium or Celeron processors, and they don't work. Now that surprises me.  I would have no idea why that would be. So, if you determine that your notebook has two antenna wires, or you are willing to completely disassemble the notebook including the display panel area to run a second antenna, then you could try one of the Intel AC cards listed in the service manual. According to the parts list for your notebook, HP is stating you can install the Intel 7265 dual band AC cards... Chapter 3, page 16. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04644012

Purchased a Lenovo Flex 2-15 for Christmas.  We can connect to the internet with the cable, but not using wifi.  Tech support told us it could be an issue with the computer only being able to use 2.4 GHZ, but no advice on how to fix it.   So, we exchanged it for the same model at the Microsoft store because the employee said he had never heard of such an issue.  He powered the new one up at store and connected to the wireless there, no problem.  Of course, you may not be surprised, but we broght the new one home and had the same issue with not being able to connect to the home wifi.  (Note that we have multiple other devices that easily connect including 3 other laptops). After reading through multiple blogs, decided to try switching channels on my router from Auto to Channel 1.  And, it worked!  Not sure for how long, but at least it is connected.   The jury is still out on whether we will keep the computer.  The Flex is not very flexible when it comes to Wifi.

Hi,Since I have bought my Lenovo Flex 2 pro-15 (Model: 80k8) around 3 months ago I have had many issues. When I first bought the computer I had issues with the builtin wifi preforming horribly, I could maybe achieve 10mbs for a few seconds before the speed dropped to under 1mbs or completely stopped working when the laptap was only 1m from the router, so I bought a cheap £10 nano wifi usb (which is only about 1cm big). I was unsure if it was just an extremely cheap network card in the laptop so I haven?t bothered doing anything but if this cheap adapter which is tiny can out preform the built-in once then how bad/cheap must it be? I also experienced clicking noises from the laptop when it was not perfectly flat, I just guessed that it was a case fan or something. However recently I have noticed extremely poor harddrive performance such as response times that are 15s+ at only 3mbs read/write, this literally causes all programs to freeze for up to 5 minutes while the cpu has sat at 5/10% usage! I have also experienced issues where the computer halts/crashes during booting where the system doesn?t even respond to the caps lock button (once I do get it to boot, this is normally when the slow speeds occur), I am assuming the clicking noise is coming from the harddrive based on these issues? More recently I have experienced issues with the poor keyboard built quality where the keys will get jammed or fall out. Are these issues common among Lenovo Flex 2 pro-15 users or do... Read more

Hello,
I have brand new Dell Inspiron 11 3158 2-in-1 .So far loving it.But I hate that I've got the 1x1:1 802.11n adapter, which tops out at 150Mbps and 2.4Ghz only. I want 5Ghz, preferably 802.11ac. Single stream or dual stream if possible.
Any recommendation what card will supported on my Inspiron? Where I can order it? Do Dell offer the modules directly for upgrade?
Current card is Dell Wireless 1810 with new M.2/NGFF Connection (not mini PCI-ex socket), which use mediocre realtek chipset inside.
and, by upgrading this part, do I lose my warranty?
Currently living in Indonesia.

Thankyou before.

Click on the bottom right to connect to the wifi3. Click network and click connect4. Enter passwrd5. Then shows a message saying unable to establish a connection6. Hi I bought this Lenovo ideacentre flex 20 and was very excited about it with beautiful touch screen display. However the wifi speed is extremly slow (<1 Mbps download). I did all the trouble shootings and research. It turns out there are a lot more folks have the same issue. Long story short, it is the stock wifi card which has poor performance. Hence I went ahead and bought Intel 7260 Wifi Wireless AC card from Amazon. Installation was every esay like changing memory card. I worried about compatibility issue BUT it turned out working very well. The speed I am getting is 60Mbps down load which is max from my comcast package. So for all those folk who have Flex 20 wifi issue, just buy a Intel 7260 AC Wifi card and swap it. Windows 8.1 can recognize it automatically without additional driver installation.

I got me a new Lenovo Flex 2-14 with Windows 8.1 on it yesterday, but I can't connect to my wifi network. In the tray there's always the red cross (not the yellow symbol) and no network is found at all.I read that a lot of users experience this, so I tried multiple drivers but none of them works. I tried the one pre-installed on the D drive, the newest one from the Lenovo website and also some that I found via Google when I searched for my wifi-adapter (it's a Realtek RTL8723BE). But as I said, no driver works.Does anybody have an idea what I could do? It's a completely new notebook, so I didn't change any settings. Thank you!

I did this stupid mistake and paid a load of money for a worthless pc - lenovo flex 15 (where lenovo is the key word).
Now I need some help to contain the problem.
First - is there ANY way I can improve on Wi-Fi connectivity? beside the low performance (low speed) it also stop working every 5 or 10 minutes. I have to disable and enable adapter in order to get internet access again.
Second - when I plug the audio jack the POS shoots down (like pressing power on button once).

Note 1: I went to service with it and they told me I lost warranty since they found some missing (!) screws inside! The POS was 2 weeks old (after purchasing) and NEVER opened by NO ONE after taking out of the box! And the box was sealed.

Note 2: on my invoice it says core I5 inside and the price is for an I5 based pc. On the board (the label on the POS is CORE I7. The explanations I get from service: some analphabetic chinese must be mistaken - they couldn?t read.

Lately the laptop has been dropping connections and download speeds were so slow so sure enough i thought the router was dying.  I tested my Galaxy S5 and my old 9 year old Dell Xps 1540 and they both were humming at my advertised speed which are 30mbps down and 10mbps up.  My brand new lenovo is averaging anywhere from 2.5-5mbps down and around 9-10 up(which is where it should be).  Drivers are updated it is a windows 10 machine.  I don't think i had these issues when it was under windows 8.  How the hell can a new machine have such an erratic wifi connection?  Its obviously either they are supplying faulty drivers or the wireless card is going bad.

Hi, I have the same problem on my new Flex 2 Pro-15. The wireless card is Qualcomm Atheros AR956x. I noticed the problem after upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, but I'm not sure it was working good before. The wifi signal is very low: with my old laptop in the same table I have almost full signal, with this Lenovo I get the minimum and somtimes it doesn't find any connection. I updated the drivers but it didn't help... I hope it's not an hardware problem. Any ideas? Thanks

My Lenovo Flex 3 randomly stopped connecting to Wifi at my house. When I first got the device it worked just fine, then a week later it just stopped. The weirdest part is, it's not that my computer is unalbe to search for my home network but it's as if my computer doesn't even posses the ability to connect to Wifi. When I go to newtork settings, there isn't even an option to turn wifi on or off. This ONLY happens at my house and no where else. I'm currenlty on a wireless network at work and I am able to turn wifi on/off. Has anybody experienced this? Thanks

I just purchased the Lenovo Flex 3-1480 yesterday.  So far so good in my initial observation of this 2 in 1 laptop. Except for the wifi. We have the AT&T gigapower speed with the Pace router with 2.4 & 5 ghz wifi dual modes.  I checked with AT&T and they advised that different devices can have different speeds if the hardware or drivers are old or not up-to-date.  AT&T has stated that everyone won't get 1ghz speeds (disclaimer says up to 1ghz).  So, I have another Lenovo 540w laptop that I use for work and it is getting 330 mbps download speeds for the 5ghz wireless and 500+ mbps download when connected with the ethernet cable to the router.I connected the Flex 3 directly to the router with the ethernet cable and tested at speedtest.net and received 320 mbps download speed.I went to speedtest.net and ran a test on the wireless and the best I could get is 30 mpbs download speed.  I noticed that the flex 3 would only connect to 2.4ghz.  When I tried to connect with 5ghz, I received and error that it would not connect.  So I searched on the Lenovo website for updated wifi drivers and found newer drivers.  My current driver was for Intel AC-3165 dual band wireless adapter version 18.12.1.2 date 7/29/2015.  I dowloaded and installed version 19.10.0.9 date 9/28/2016, rebooted and saw some improvement. I was finally able to connect to 5ghz mode and the latest speed test was 89 mbps download speed.    So I started... Read more

Hello,One month ago, i bought a lenovo flex 3 1470 (8GB ram, I5-6200), it came with WIN 10 righ out of the box.Since than, im having some trouble with part of the laptop capabilities. First of all - the WIFI:For some reason, once a while, the wifi connection disappeared and than i cant get no signal from any network around me.After that happens, i look into the device manager and i cant see the WIFI adapter no more.Usually restart the laptop solve the problem, but that not a solution.Second, is the pc performance. For a notebook with 8 gb of ram and a brand new i5 processor (6 generation) it runs so slow!More than 2 minutes startup, having a restart or shut down will take much more than than. It's important to say that there's almost nothing intalled on it.The last problem which i saw twice, it that the laptop just turn on by it self without me pressing anything.I've tried running a diagnostic utility from the lenovo support web, didn't find anything special / not functioning. Please help me, this is my work laptop and so far i'm very disappointed with it.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Flex 4-1470 that is runnign windows 10 and has an Intel AC-8260 wireless card. I am having problems whenever I try to connect to a specific wifi network. I can connect to my home network just fine but when I connect to the network at work I shut down the entire network (it has probably around 5 or 6 acccess points). The strange thing is that this problem with the work network just started a month ago, before that I was able to connect to the network just fine. I have tried a bunch of stuff including reinstalling the network card driver. Also, I didn't make any changes to the laptop around the time the problem started. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi Folks, Recently I purchased a new WiFi-Router supporting 5 GHz-Radio. Of course I intended to use this feature but unfirtunately I relized after a few tries and internet research that my quite new Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13 (0217-3BG) doesn't support it... THe WiFi Module is according to the Windows Sytem Manager a 1x1 1b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter. Now I'm planning to exchange it with a Adapter capable to use the 5 GHz Frequency Range. My questions: Which Adapters may I use for an exchange? I know there's a Whitelist existing - an I heard I could find informations in the Hardware Maintenance Manual. Well, I couldn't - maybe I'm too stupid to interpret the facts given there.. I have Z830-11H purchased in Finland.

Recently I discovered that I have I had Atheros wi-fi module instead of Intel one.
That disables Wireless Display option.

Is it possible to exchange the wi-fi modules?
I also want 3G connectivity.

Is it possible get that module?

Thanks!

Answer:Portege Z830-11H - Upgrade of Intel Wifi and 3G module.

Hi

Some of the Z830 are equipped with an 3G module so it should be possible to upgrade this with an 3G module.
The compatible 3G module could be ordered from Toshiba ASP in your country as well as an compatible WLan card.
As the miniPCI Wireless LAN module is based on DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum / Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing radio technology) complies with the IEEE 802.11 standard so usage of such Wlan modules should not be a problem but probably the BIOS would not recognize the new module?therefore I would recommend asking the dealer if you could replace this Wlan if it would not be BIOS compatible.

Answer:Ideapad Flex 14: WIFI Intel 7260AC upgrade

Hack your BIOS then any WiFi will be compatible. Recently though this might not be possible at all due to Lenovo write-protecting the BIOS.

Hi!  I do have trouble with a Lenovo Flex 2-14 (Model 20404).The Lenovo turns on, shows the Levono Boot screen and finishes with a black screen.  - I am able to enter the Bios (working screen)- I am able to run the internal recovery with a working screen - after recovery and a new boot up - the screens gets black again  How is that possible? I am not able to boot from a usb-stick (with working Linux or Windows installation - tested on other systems) cause I get a black screen (the USB is being recognized).  So... what are the next steps? This seems wierd, since the screen itself seems to work. I found some forum-topics saying it is a GPU-failure. Maybe thats the case?  I would appreciate any support!

Hi everyone! May I check if Lenovo Flex 2-14 (Model: 20404, Core i7 4510U) support 2TB 2.5" Seagate Firecuda HDD? The z-height is just 7mm so it should fit perfectly. Just that I am not sure if the particular size and model are supported or not. Hope to hear from you guys soon, thanks in advance.

Hi,This is my first post. I have just brought a Lenovo Flex 10 with a celeron n 2807 chip. I asked in the shop if they could do an ssd upgrade and they said they wouldn't recommend it because the celeron n2807 chip is not good enough to run an SSD internal flash drive. Would anyone recomened upgrading the interneral storage from the 5400rpm hard drive to an SSD?

Answer:Lenovo Flex 10 SSD upgrade

Pardon my lack of confidence in your shop, but that's a joke. SSDs will improve PC's right back to the beginning of the SATA offering. I have a NUC with the following Celeron:http://ark.intel.com/products/79052/Intel-Celeron-Processor-N2820-1M-Cache-up-to-2_39-GHzThere is a huge performance gain from running an SSD on these. The only factor in whether or not to get an SSD should be if the size within your budget will hold all your data.

Hello, I recently purchased Lenovo Flex 5 (14") laptop (Part Number:  80XA0011US). This comes with 16.0GB DDR4 2133 MHz and 1TB 5400 RPM+128GB PCIe SSD.  My question is as follows: Can I upgrade the Hard Drive to more capacity like 256 GB SSD or 512 GB SSD in future? If yes, can I get this done via Lenovo Support or do I need to do it on my own? Basically, I just want to know if the System provides me the ability to upgrade Hard Drive - both HDD and SSD.

Hi Guys,              I hope you guys doing great. I'm actually new to lenovo forum and this is my first post so apoligies in advance of any typo or error.             I have lenovo flex 15, its running great with hybrid sshd. i recently purchased kingston ssd (512 gb). I was able to install windows in it successfully but after some usage it got freeze and went into not responding state, i then restarted it and it gave my Disk Read Error at bios time. I tried to install windows 2-3 times again to make sure of windows installation and all went perfect again until it gave the very same error again. since then it sometimes boot perfectly (but after soome usage become unresponsive) or sometime it directly give Disk Read Error.             After some research i though the ssd is faulty and i had to buy another one. This time i bought intel ssd 520 series 240gb. Sadly it repeated the very same behaviour again. Like its giving disk ready error most of the time.  After some research i found that i need to change sata mode from IDE to AHCI, and i tried to change it but looks like there is no such option in my laptop Bios menu (not even in advance option). But a guide explaind if you look into IDE ATA Controllers under Device Manager then if it contains AHCI keyword in its name then it means the laptop is running AHCI mode. So i... Read more

Hello.. I'm new to the community and this is my first post. My name's Phil. I recently picked up a Lenovo flex 15. i7 4500u 8GB memory 500 GB HD and 8 GB SSD. The model I have does not include discreet graphics. I see that there is a flex 15 available that comes with an nvidia gt740m graphics card. Is it possible for me to open mine up and install this same card on the motherboard? Also curious about upgrading the SSD. Is the included 8 GB SSD attached in a hybrid fashion to the HD or is it an actual separate drive? I'm hoping I can replace the 8 GB SSD with a larger SSD to install Windows and my programs on and still keep the 500 GB HD on board.. Is this possible?

Hi, I was thinking of buying this hybrid:https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16834332513 And then upgrading it with this:https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820250085 I'm not clear on whether this voids the warranty or not? As close as I can understand it, it "may" if I mess something up? I've opened at least 100 laptops without messing anything up, so I'm confident I can do it without damaging anything, but I have also seen motherboards and touchscreens die in the first year, and don't want to mess up that part of the warranty for an SSD upgrade. I figured I'd make sure it powered on, then shutdown, crack it open, install the M.2 SSD, clone everything over, wipe the old SSD once into windows, and then finally perform the product registration. (Which uploads all your hardware specs? So they'd know everything was A-Okay with the new drive in place?) Thoughts? Anyone got more info on how strict they are with self service?

Your system supports maximum up to 8Gb RAM as per the Detailed Specification, so you have to look for 4Gb RAM only. But some user have checked with upgrading the memory to 16Gb and is working fine.

Regards, I need to consult on an Ideacentre K410 desktop model: MTM-11681CU. This model has the factory preinstalled Windows 7 Home and brings the i3-2120 Dual Core 3.3Ghz processor which I understand is Sandy Bridge microarchitecture. The query is about updating the maximum CPU that my machine can support and is compatible. According to the hardware manual of my PC says that this model can carry two types of processors: the one I have is i3-2120 and the i5-2320 which is Quad core but is 3.0 Ghz. In the same manual later is the same machine, the K410 but that brings pre-installed windows 8. This brings different processors than the one I have, but I am interested if the i7-3770 that brings as an option this last machine would work to which I have. Looking for information and found that the one I have is Sandy Bridge as I mentioned earlier and the CPU i7-3770 is Ivy Bridge. Check the manufacturer and there is no BIOS update. My question is this i7-3770 processor would work on my pc that comes from the factory the i3-2120 that is Sandy? I would like to upgrade the CPU from my pc to the Max that I can support, but I will have to settle for the i5-2320 ... Thanks for your help.

My new Lenovo B50-30 Touch Model 20383 will not accept a memory upgrade.  The unit shipped new with 4GB RAM.  I have tried Crucial (using online scanner), PNY and Samsung DDR3 12800S SODIMM.  The symptom is a blank screen when trying to boot.  The only memory it will work with is the memory the notebook delivered with.  For example, in trying to troubleshoot, I put the purchased SODIMM in the either slot by itself and it will not boot. I called Lenovo Technical Support and they indicated that this model notebook will only accept memory on a white list. They said the notebook, upon boot, checks the PID of the memory, and if it is not on a white list, the system will not POST. I am having a hard time believing that Lenovo is forcing users to buy Lenovo branded memory.  I know that they did this with internal wireless cards, however, I can understand that more because of FCC rules and radio transmitters. Can anyone help me on this issue?  Has anyone else heard of memory being whitelisted? Thanks in advance!

I am generally a Mac user, but wanted a PC to run a few apps I can't run on my Mac, and didn't want to partition my drive and use Boot Camp (I'd done this previously, and chose not to do it this time). A few days ago I purchased a Lenovo 110-15ISK laptop, model number 80UD0017US. I had been looking at an HP laptop, but read that it was not so user friendly when upgrading the RAM and hard drive, and passed on that one (for that specific reason), and saw this Lenovo in the local Best Buy on sale. I usually check things out pretty throughly before I purchase, but I have to admit, I didn't on this purchase. Although the laptop is nice, I was not pleased to find out that you pretty much have to disassemble half of the computer to be able to access the memory and hard drive. Not exactly what I was hoping for. Anyway, I've decided to leave the hard drive as is, since it's a 1TB (although I prefer SSD and upgraded my MacBook Pro to an SSD on day 1 and love it!). However, I definitely want to upgrade the RAM from 4GB. I was a little horrified to find out that the 4GB is soldered onto the motherboard, and that there's only one available slot for RAM. I've read up a bit on it, on both this forum and through Google and Bing searches, and it seems there are differing opinions on how much RAM this model can accept and still be stable. Some say it can take as much as a 16GB DDR4 stick bringing the memory up to 20GB, and some say that the max is a 4GB stick, bringing the RAM u... Read more

Hi, first post on this forum.I've just bought a G550 and want to upgrade to win7 but when promted for 7 digit model type I don't know what to type. On the bottom of the laptop it just says model type "2958"  (if you don't consider the chinese lettering.)On the original packaging it says Model type "2958 (Lenovo G550)", in Vista it says "model 2958", in the BIOS nothing and the onlinesupport-serial-finding-link thing doesn't work at all.So how am I supposed to get those 7 digits?

Answer:Lenovo G580 model 20150 missing Nvidia graphic after Windows 10 upgrade

Dear mrobo,

Welcome in lenovo community,

kindly try to access the BIOS of the laptop >> Configuration >> Graphic Device >> Select switchable.

Also you can check the Device manager, if the driver is installed or not.

Josepg

Answer:Lenovo R500 wifi upgrade from Intel WiFi Link 5100 to Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260

Welcome to the forum!

You'll need a modded BIOS in order to use that card in R500. Stock BIOS will not allow the machine to boot with it.

Hi All, I recently purchased Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 14 and am hoping to use this laptop for online trainings. I use an interactive classroom software for drawing diagrams, etc. Currently I use my finger for drawing, however, I would like to use a stylus. There is no official stylus for this model and I've already purchased two styli that did not work (Belkin and Wiacom bamoo). Strangely, the same styli work flawlessly on tabs and smartphones. Does the screen of of Lenovo Flex use some different kind of capacitative touch technology? If yes, could you suggest which stylus would work smoothly with this model? Thank you!

Answer:Flex 14: Looking for a stylus that works with this model

As far as I've tested, the Flex 15 is a standard capacitive 10-finger display. There's no reason a run-of-the-mill $10 capacitive stylus wouldn't work.

Capacitive touch uses liquid (in our case, water in our hands) to detect touch. The round bottomed rubbery styluses should work fine.

Hi All, i have a Lenovo G560 Laptop and want to know if an Intel 7260HMW will work. I have read that some Lenovo Laptops have some sort of hardware limit imposed by the bios. If the bios is the only limit, can someone provide a work around (bios update or similar)?Thank You in advance. Regards

Answer:Lenovo G560 Wifi upgrade.

hi Darkman1969,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The posts you read are correct,
Most OEM have a list of pre-configured supported hardware and is locked in the BIOS
as per your System Maintenance Manual here are what's should work

Flashing the BIOS is not recommended as any wrong move may brick the system and void the warranty also rendering the system not working.

Best Regards
Solid Cruver

11.5.0.32 Intel
9.0.4.37 Intel
1.2.4.41 Intel

WLAN Driver Realtek

Neither worked (Network device not recognized)

The hardware ID is
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4232&SUBSYS_12018086&REV_00\4&318 470AD&0&00E1

Can you help ?

Thank you

With best regards,
Oleksiy

Answer:Satellite A300 - can not identify a wireless module model

VEN 8086 is Intel so install the Intel Wireless LAN drivers for XP.

You should install the Intel Chipset Drivers first.

Based on other threads it looks like my original Flex 15 20309 only has 1 RAM slot, occupied by the 8 GB DIMM originally installed by Lenovo. I would like to change this out for at least a 16 GB chip.  Can anyone confirm that the a) Flex 15 will recognize >8 GB RAM and b) OEM/Lenovo installed RAM is not soldered? Strange that its not crystal clear from Lenovo's specs or manual, but as you can see in prior threads such as one below, its not.  Thanks! https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-100-305-500-Edge/Upgrading-RAM-on-Flex-15/m-p/1714761/hi...
