How do I remove the Caps and Num Lock indictor for a Lenovo G50, that is running Windows 10?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hi Thisismyname01 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
On a similar G50 , this was resolved by uninstalling Energy Management .
Another steps that was advised :
1. Opening Control Panel >Program and Features>Uninstall a Program and look for Caps OSD or Lenovo OSD
2. On the display properties of the graphic card , you may also configure to "Show indicator for a few seconds" .
3. Disable hotkeys from the BIOS ( but this may change all other usable hotkeys ) . Lets's reserve it a last option.
Update us what works for you.

Hi, i've been reading through an endless amount of forum threads to figure out how to remove this caps lock indicator and have not been able to fix my problem. It seems every solution in the control panel does not fit, and no matter how much i look in Registry Editor I can't find the right folders. I don't have the Widcomm folders. This is what I have tried. 1. unchecking any caps lock indication in the control panel.2. Looking through Registry Editor to delete/rename/alter files.3. Deleting and re-installing Lenovo Energy Manager. How is this problem fixed for me? I am running windows 10, and a rather new Lenovo Y50 laptop
More repliesHello! Recently, I turned on the on screen indicators for caps and num lock by accident when trying to get the pop-up window to stop opening every time I hit one of the buttons. hi Vilvern,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
AFAIK,
If the system does not have CAPS OSD under Control Panel / Uninstall a Program to uninstall
You will need to Uninstall the Lenovo Energy managemenr Under the Programs / Uninstall a program.

I have an x61t that when it locks for screen saver password and you have to CTRL ALT Delete the relog back on. the CAPS lock on the onscreen keyboard indicates on but it's not. 1. Log into the tablet.2. The screensaver would lock the tablet.3. Press Ctrl Alt Delete to get to the logon screen.4. The on screen keyboard would show the Caps Lock key as on but it wasn't. If they pressed the Caps Lock key it would then be on.5. The users don't press the Caps Lock key now, even though it is being displayed as on, and they can logon OK. I cannot recreate this problem on another X61tablet and this behaviour happens even when the notebook is in a docking station with an external keyboard. anybody seen this error before?

I also tried to go on to advanced settings (under screen resolution) and I noticed that I don't have the "on-screen display tab". What can i do?
Hi jarryd,
Welcome to the community,
This should be fixed easily by installing the latest version of the power management driver.
I am not sure what machine you have so you can find it at our support site:

Everytime I press caps lock, change volume i got a notification pops up that often messes up the window focus. It's particularly annoying when trying to play games. Can I turn this off?
I searched around for other people having the same problem and the one solution I got was to change Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication to 0, but that's already set to 0 for me, and I'm still getting notifications. The solution with removing "lockkey.exe" is not working aswell. I just don't have program like this.

3 more repliesThis post is regarding the indicators that pop up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen when caps lock or num lock are turned on and off. Every other person I've found with this problem has been advised to go to Screen Resolution --> Advanced Settings --> Enable onscreen display. However, when I try to do this, I don't have a tab for enabling onscreen display, or a button, or any such thing. (For ease, here's a screenshot: http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu272/Lentilshine/G780indicatorproblem_zps735b5936.png) I didn't hugely mind the indicator, only it's started causing one of the games I run to tab out Every. Single. Time. which is getting fairly annoying, given it's a social game and I learned to type with caps lock and not the shift keys. I've had a look under regedit and KeyIndicator is set to 0. Running Windows 7. Any help would be massively appreciated.

Can you check under Control Panel , Add / Remove Programs and see if you have anything that says Caps OSD or OSD.
If yes, Uninstall that.
You can also try uninstalling Lenovo Energy Management from Add remove programs.
See if those will take out the Onscreen Capslock Display.

you might want to try the Capsunlock program, which basically allows you block the capslock key so that you won't accidentally trigger it when you press the button accidentally. you can undo the changes easily so you can restore the capslock to normal function when you want it.hope this helps,2x3i5x

Hey everyone, is it possible to have a caps lock indicator like this on my PC? I tried installing Dell QuickSet to do it, but it's not compatible and I don't have indicators. Is it possible to have this on a Gateway PC?
There are several programs available to display a caps lock icon on the desktop. Try this one: NumCapsScroll Indicator - Software Informer
Quote:
On-screen real-time indicator showing the status of the ability to change the Keyboard Status of NumLock, CapsLock and ScrollLock through the application's panel.
NumCapsScroll Indicator monitors the keyboard status of the Num, Caps and Scroll Lock buttons and indicates it with the following ways:
1. In the System Tray with its icon.
2. With a tool-tip when you mouse-over its System Tray's icon.
3. With a small On-screen Keyboard-like panel.
I got the X230t and I'm returning it due to numerous build quality issues (a mod has buried my post on the topic), and I'm considering getting a T430 instead. One of the things I don't like on the X230t is that there's no way to tell when caps lock is on or off. They removed the LED from the screen, but didn't put one in on the new Chiclet keyboard. Is this the same situation with the T430?
i think the new ThinkPad uses an onscreen indicator for the cap lock now. At least i haven't seen one when i tested a demo unit.
I play World Of Warcraft, and whenever I hit caps lock, the indicator shows up, minimizing thr game, whitch is very frustrating. I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit. Its related to Dell software. Solutions are clearly listed here:
Caps Lock Notification issue? Vista issue? or Dell Inspiron Issue? - DELL COMMUNITY
On they old keyboard, there was a dedicated green indicatory light on the key itself, which is missing on the keyboard. Now, I realize that the new keyboard affects all thinkpads alike, but the reason I'm posting this here is because my Thinkpad Edge (E530) has a dedicated numpad, thereby making me use the numlock much more often I am aware of the often-suggested windows 7 software-sided fix: screen resolution > advanced settings > on screen display However, the issue with this is that is that it groups the caps lock and numlock together. What if I want the numlock to be default on and NOT shown on-screen, but still wanted to be reminded on-screen if I [accidentally] have the caps lock on? Is there a solution to this or is this another problem that Lenovo overlooked when upgrading the keyboard?

Hey Gleipnir,
The only solutions is what you have said is the windows 7 and going into the on screen display and picking which of the two options works for you. It's unfortunate that with the removal of the light indicator for the caps lock and num lock have had a negative effect on your use of a thinkpad laptop. I wish there was more we could do, if you have any other questions please feel free to come back to the forums we are more then willing to help.

How about adding a sound to the Caps Lock key? This way, when you press the Caps Lock, Num Lock or Scroll Lock key, you’ll hear a beep. To set this up, open the Windows Control Panel and double click Accessibility Options. Select the Keyboard tab. Check "Use ToggleKeys" and click OK. From here on out, a sound will warn you that everything you are about to type will be upper case.Click to expand...

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.
Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

Hello, guys. The indicator of the caps lock on the screen is missing, same with the num lock. I know that G470 does not have on screen display utility, but it used to show at least one little message in the right corner when caps lock and num lock were activated/deactivated. The volume and brightness indicator it's still working fine. Anyone knows how to fix it?? I've tried to go to Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings, but there is no tab named "On Screen Display", witch is correct, since there is no software. One mor question: is there a way to install the on screen display utility on the G470? Thanks, and sorry for any english mistakes, i'm from Brazil.
hi brunobera,
Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
It's weird that when doing Fn+ Brightness/Volume Up/Down, the on-screen animation works but not with the capslock/numlock as these are in one single feature. If they used to work before, have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the Lenovo Energy Management software? This is the utility that makes the hotkeys & indicators work.
Try this link:
Lenovo Energy Management v6.0.2.8 17 - Windows 7 32&64bit - 13.6MB
Let us know if you get any errors.
Cheers
I've got a Yoga 11e running Windows 10 and like a lot of people I find the caps/num lock indicator popping up while typing sometimes quite annoying. However, because the keyboard doesn't have an inidicator that lights up when a user turns caps lock on or off I don't want to get rid of it entirely because it's useful. I just hate that it pops up right in the middle of the screen. Is there a way to move the indicator from the center of the screen to the far right or left? All of the threads I've seen only focus on turning it on or off.

Sporting Windows XP (32-bit) on my T530 and as of recently, Caps Lock indicator has stopped working. Mute, Volume, Screen Brightness indicators are working as per usual, only CL indicator is not working anymore. Tried upgrading Lenovo Hotkey Features, rebooted but still no go. Also, I can't remember where do I find settings for Caps Lock indicator? IIRC, it should be somewhere in Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced/OSD, but it disappeared. I can only enable/disable OSD, adjust fade-out time and background/foreground color(s). Options for Caps Lock indicator are missing. Anyone experiencing similar problems?

Hi Littlewiz,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I?m really sorry to hear that on screen display is not working properly in your Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch after installing Windows 8.1 64-bit.
I would suggest you to install the latest version of Hotkey Features Integration for your machine.
Also, download the Power manager driver for your system from the below link and install it.
Support Drivers & Software downloads
Please click on "QUICK PATH" enter X1 Carbon and select the exact model depending on the MTM number of your device.
Do post back if issue persists even after trying the above steps.

box next to toggle keys to indicate caps lock on is ticked and still not working???
I don't know how to resolve your problem, but as a non touch typist, a free piece of software called Boldfinger has been invaluable to me. It disables the Caps Lock key, so you can't accidentally press it - and then look up at the screen and find your last five minutes of typing is in upper case... :-( You have to do something like Ctrl+Caps Lock or Alt+Caps Lock if you really want Caps Lock on.
2 more repliesHi, I have a Lenovo ideapad 100 and when i click either a. caps lock, b. num lock or c. scroll lock, an annoying square pops up at the bottom middle of my screen indicating that the caps lock is either on or off, same with the other buttons. I cannot find a solution online anywhere to figure out how to turn this off. I have gone into regedit, nothing there. I have gone into control panel > display and also settings > display and had a look at every single option, nothing. I have had a look at ease of access on control panel and settings, and there's nothing there, either. I am running Windows 10, if that's any help at all. Does anyone know how to turn this off? Thanks.
More repliesTHE "HP On-Screen Caps/Num/Scroll lock Indicator" shows up in Programs and Features, but the size cell is empty!! Indicator lost during a previous "fix" of an unrelated problem. HP states they can neither replace the file nor download the file contenets. What, Where, and How can I retrieve the indicator as I have a &[email protected]*+ remote keyboard? HELP!
khdphd
Hi, khdphd, and welcome to the forum....
They say they cannot download the file? I have always seen every HP that uses those hkCMD.exe files to be able to download them for that computer in the event of a reinstall.
Did you look at software available for download for your computer? If it is there, then you can download it, uninstall the current version, reboot and install that one and it should load the original files back in place.
Try uninstalling hkcmnd from Programs and Features (it may be named something a bit more fancy)
And I know what HP *said* - but look anyway.
Hi,I am bewildered by this - all of a sudden, at some point during my work today - the caps lock indicator is no longer showing on the screen (which I had it configured to do since there is no light on the keyboard <different rant>). Now I can't remember where I set that! I saw online somewhere that I should go to Control Panel / Display / Screen Resolution (of all the STUPID places) / Advanced Settings / On Screen Display. I have no such tab. I have a tab called Screen Configurations, but all it has is Foreground color, Background color, and Fadeout time, and a check box for Enable on-screen display, which is CHECKED. None of the other tabs have anything related to the caps lock (and num lock) notifications being on the screen. BTW: It also does not even BRIEFLY appear when I hit the caps lock... Anyone know what's going on? It will be really stupid if I have to reboot to fix this! I've made no changes today. Except I had to kill a "maintenance in process" that ground me to a halt - just like yesterday. I have this set to go at 1 AM but for some reason both today and yesterday, it is doing it in the middle of the day while I am actively working on my machine. p.s. I am on windows 8.1
Hi, I have a question. I bought yesterday notebook G50-45 for my father and there is installed Num Lock/Caps Lock indicator. Is there any way, how get that good indicators on my Lenovo G510? Why I want that? Because I haven't on my Num Lock small led diode which shows if it is enabled/disabled and G50-45 that diode have. ?
More repliesWhen I hit Caps Lock, a display pops up in the lower right corner of the screen to notify me of the change. It looks like this: http://i55.tinypic.com/15xez9.png How do I stop this from happening? I've found a bunch of workarounds via Google, and they all either don't work for me or don't apply.
Looks like you have a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard. Easy way (if you don't use Bluetooth)Click Start.Type MSCONFIG.Allow User Account Control? - click Yes.Click Startup tab.Remove check marks from "Bluetooth Software" and/or "HP Desktop Keyboard".Restart computer. If you want to only shut down the little graphical presentation and you want to keep the bluetooth icon, use the steps above to prevent "HP Desktop Keyboard" from loading, but do not remove the checkmark next to bluetooth. And then prevent the OSD for the bluetooth caps lock indicator by making a minor change in the registry:Click Start.Type REGEDIT.Allow User Account Control? - click Yes.To backup your registry (in case soething goes haywire), select Computer, click File menu, click Export, give a name and save. After backing up registry, open each of the following registry values (the little folders) in this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MCHINE_\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BTConfig\General\Double-click the value KeyIndication in the list on the right.Change the hex value from a one (1) TO A ZERO (0).Close the registry editor window and restart your computer. You don't need to save anything - it happens on the fly (scary).

More repliesOne of my clients has a T410 with Windows 7 64-bit installed. When he turns on his caps lock, the indicator lights up and the same indicator appears on the screen and then stays present until the caps lock is turned off. When caps lock is turned off the indicator disappears in about 3 seconds. My other T410s are not experiencing this issue. What can we do to change the indicator so that it only appears on-screen for 3 seconds? I appreciate your help.

9 more repliesHi,
how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?
I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks
Hi,
You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

I'm using an HP Pavilion dv6000 Notebook series. I noticed that my Caps Lock LED is not working but its FUNCTION is working fine.. same goes with Scroll Lock. Here's the weird part.. when I press Num Lock ( function key + scroll lock ) the LED turns on! I already tried a system recovery, it didn't solve the issue. Is there something wrong with my BIOS? Any help from you guys will be highly appreciated.. thanks!
Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly. Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then try updating your BIOS. If neither works...It's pretty much dead and not worth fixing. To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for 5 seconds)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook. There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.
9 more repliesFor some time now, i have been experiencing that my Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking) all at the same time, I tried to google it but i can not find any solutions or explanations for it.
Does anyone know if it is bad? and what is causing this?
I am having a wired keyboard with nothing fancy just a standard issue Logitech keyboard.
Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.
2 more repliesI have a thinkpad w541 running on windows 7 that i recently just bought and it works great, but I have a problem with number lock and cap lock not displaying on my screen to let me know if it is on or off. Hi Davidvazquez116,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
To resolve the ?On screen display? you have to install Intel Graphic driver, hotkey feature, Power manager & power management driver. All this should be downloaded from Lenovo support site.

Not a techie. Can't get straight answer ANYWHERE. New laptops tend to NOT have indicators on the keys. Hoping Windows 10 has indicators that can be turned on and PROBABLY would show up in the tray at the bottom right of the screen.
I have heard of sites where such things can be downloaded but again NOT a techie, so I hesitate to go outside of Windows/Microsoft for downloads. I do not know what download sites are safe or spoofs.
Please plain English ... i.e. go to settings etc. Or just give me a Microsoft approved site for download.

Hi guys. Recently bought my second Y2P, this one second hand. Reason being my previous one was the 4GB i5 model, this one is the 8GB i7 Now I've noticed a few things when I compare them. Firstly, and most annoyingly, the screen on this one is significantly dimmer than on my previous one. When I put it it max brightness it's only a little brighter than half way on my older one. When I put the brightness all the way down the screen turns off... I''ve already disabled auto dim in the battery settings, windows setting AND intel graphics control panel so I'm sure it's not down to that. I'm running the updated BIOS on both the systems also. This is unbelievably frustrating. Another annoying thing is that the CAPS lock indicator light is always on. Apart from when I press a button, it turns off whilst anything is being pressed (on the keyboard). It does this as soon as the machine is switched on. BIOS setting have been reverted to standard etc and nothing seems to be fixing any of it. I have also done a full reset of the machine on numerous occasions. Nothing. One last niggle is that I've noticed that the touchpad is ever so slightly sunk in (something that I probably only noticed because I have another yoga to compare it to) and there is some play in the touchpad which I would have noticed this regardless. Is it time to contact Lenovo warranty team? Sorry for the long post, and I'd really appreciate any advice!
Just to keep the thread updated in case by any chance someone has similar problems... I've contacted Lenovo who are saying it's likely a motherboard issue, I'll be getting a letter with details of how to arrange a courier to collect the system within the next few days. I'll let y'all know what comes of it!

More repliesPlease can someone tell me if it is ok to disable LENOVO UTILITY in task manager, in order to stop the caps lock indicator from popping up. I have read that the only way to stop the indicator for caps lock and num lock is to disable LENOVO UTILITY in task manager but am concerned as to what else will stop running. Does anyone know what the functions of LENEVO UTILITY actually are as nowhere online can I find a definitive answer? I only purchased the laptop the other day and do not want to break it by removing things that are needed for it to function, however the pop up that appears everytime I press caps lock on my keyboard is driving me insane! Please could someone advise whether disabling LENOVO UTILTY function is a safe thing to do. I was on my Y560 Model 0646 checking my email and the computer shut off on me. I went to turn it back on and it does not turn on. The caps lock and number lock light up. Blue tooth, Battery, and Video status all light up above keyboard in status area. None of the fans are going, and it does not sound like anything is running. I tried removing the power and battery and pressing power button a few times. Also tried to remove power and battery and holding down power and nothing. It's almost like it freezes. I can push the mute button and it lights up, but then cannot turn it off. Please help. Laptop just went out of warranty last month.
I'm guessing it is because of the motherboard. Since it is out of warranty can a Y560 motherboard be purchased anywhere? Any ideas? Please help.

I have a Ideapad Y560P that shut down suddenly and when we tried to turn it back on, the Caps Lock and Num Lock (on F8 key) lights go on but the computer does not start. I saw a similar thread from 2010 but there was no resolution. I assume that the two lights on at the same time at attempted start indicate some kind of "fault" condition in the computer. I have not been able to get the bios to start so that I could run diagnostics. I pulled the battery and held down power for 30 seconds, pressed start twice, put the battery back in but still won't start. I pulled memory out, trying to get a POST "beep" error but that didn't occur. I put memory back in one dimm at a time. I pulled the Hard Drive out and put it in an external enclosure and was able to extract the information to another laptop so I'm pretty sure I didn't have a hardware Hard Drive failure. Other than the one reference in this forum I haven't seen any information about this kind of, what I assume is a, hardware failure. I assume that Lenovo has some kind of guide that tells them what the lights mean. The computer was about six months out of warrenty when it failed. I called Lenovo to attempt to extend the warranty but they won't once it is out of warranty. Looking for some idea of what failed, whether it is worth getting one of Lenovo's listed companies that repair laptops to look at it and fix the problem.

3 more repliesMy Toshiba satellite c650d seems to have power...the on button is green. The screen is black, the numbers and caps lock lights are on and wont go off. The disk drive makes the usual booting up noise but that is all she does. Ive unplugged and removed the battery and that did nothing. I cant even turn it off with the on/off button to remove that battery and then turn it on again. I removed and reinserted the memory (both) and I can't take the hard drive out, its held in by a screw. Is my "friend" dead?
If, as it sounds, it is booting up but not ever displaying anything on the screen, check the cable between the motherboard and the screen. It might just be one of the connectors (at either end) has worked loose. With the computer well booted up, move the screen gently down to nearly closed. If you ever see anything on the screen then it could be the cable is faulty where it hinges.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi
Are you able to disable the CapsLock and NumLock?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 while powering up the unit?
If this does not work, I would recommend checking an external USB keyboard.
If the USB keyboard would functions, then this means that the internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.

When I went into Display Settings in Control Panel, I could not find the option to set them on or off. so, based on the instructions on https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht002122, I installed the Hotkey driver from http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/downloads/ds031814. When I now go into Advanced Settings under Display Settings and click on Screen Configurations, I can see the Enable on-screen display checkbox and the Appearance settiings but the expected Indicator Settings for NUM LOCK and CAPS LOCK aren't being displayed as expected. Can anybody advise what I need to do to enable these settings? Lenovo On-Screen-Display is listed under the Installed Programs in Control Panel. Many thanks.
I do not have an answer for how to enable them via the control plane, but I can point you to a free tool called Keyboard LEDs that I have used in the past that when installed will put an indicator in the system tray, and will sound a tone and display on screen if so configured in its settings..
