Hi All

Five days back i had brought the Lenovo G50 80E502UWIN Laptop from the Amazon site On first day it shows the battery charging correctly But now it show me Plugged in not Charging.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. Good day,I have reached the next problem: after I've returned back from a vacation, I have inserted AC adapter into my laptop and the orange battery indicator was not displayed. I have turned on my laptop and found, that the battery doesn't charge - there is "Plugged in and not charging" message near the battery indicator in the tray. I have tried to follow the steps from the http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ideapad-Z400-or-Z500-battery-will-not-cha... , but it didn't hepl - the program freezes on the first step "Now configuring the program..." http://take.ms/k0TBi Have also tried to delete/reinstall Energy Management - nothing helped. OS - Windows 8.1 x64.Power Management Version 8.0.2.14. I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

Good day, I bought my Lenovo G580H 1 week before, and before few days i saw, that the battery is not charging. First time the battery was on 61%, later when i was watching the film without AC adapter and after it pluged the AC adapter i saw, that the battery is on 7% and not charging. So no it's not charging too and when you want to watch a film or something without ac adapter laptop is truns off autmatically. So for what i should be angry? I?m sorry to hear that the Battery is not charging and also not providing backup as expected in your G580 Laptop, I suggest you to open the LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) and perform ?Battery Gauge Reset? to get the issue confirmed.

Hi Guys, I have had to change my battery, got a brand new DELL battery but I can't get it to charge...I'm running Windows 10 PRO. I have tried the fixes listed above but unfortunately NONE has solved my problem. Any suggestions?

Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? 
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

Dell laptop not charging..getting message plugged in not charging I brought Dell Inspiron 14R laptop 2 years back . My laptop is not getting on with battery..only when power cable is plugged in its getting on..but getting message saying "plugged in not charging"...replace the battery.

Is this an issue with battery or do i need to change the AC adapter. Do i need to buy a new battery?

I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.



Things i have tried



1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.



Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

I recently had my Qosmio F55-Q502 repaired by Toshiba.
Two issues were addressed and one is fixed.

However, the second was attempted to be resolved unsuccessfully.

When I attempt to play multi-media games such as Call of Duty IV, even if the system is fully charged, within minutes the system will start to blink the "backlights" and then when I see the charging icon, it says "Plugged in, Not Charging."

This really concerns me as I have read online many similar issues, but none of the solutions seems to work.
To have to restart the machine everytime this happens and your in the middle of a game, really stinks!
I even had it happening with SimCity4 which is an ancient game.

Any good suggestions on this?
They did replace the battery when it was sent in which seems to be what most people say needs to be done.

If your Qosmio notebook was in repair I think you should not discuss about any issue on forums but make a pressure on service and clarify every single problem with your notebook.
Please do this because the warranty is still valid and now is the time to clarify everything.

I am not hardware specialist but it sound to me as some power supply electronic issue but I cannot say for sure. Talk with service. Try to clarify this with them. Be nice, be cool and everything will be ok.

Hi my laptop today morning had an issue. When I plugged my charger I was not charging and there was no indication of being charged. Even the charging indicator light didn't show up when connected. I tried all the procedures of connecting charger with battery plugged out it didn't boot. And my laptop s updated until today. Any help????

My laptop suddenly stopped charging since yesterday. It is hovering around the 5-7% range since yesterday and continues to say that it is charging, when in actuality it is not. I have tried to reset the laptop, as well as uninstall and install the ACPI drivers, but nothing seems to work. It has only been a month since I got this laptop.  Any help would be appreciated.

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.
 

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

I buy a laptop DELL XPS 13 9350 from Microsoft store (NY) last week. But it stop charging at 80%. I have read all related topics on this forum, but my issue isn't solve. I did: - Update Window- update BIOS ver 1.4.4- BIOS > setting > general Battery Information: health excellent, 80% (Idle), AC Adapter = 45W-Power Management > Primary Battery Charge Configuration: Standard- all step here (www.dell.com/.../SLN296542), except (step 5 & 6).- I ran diognasis test in BIOS: everything passed. Hey,

I just got my computer back from having the motherboard switched out because of another problem, but now my battery will not charge. The light is on and it says it is charging, but it isn't. Should I attempt a gauge reset or something else?

It is a Lenovo y50, which I have had for 3 months. The battery needs to be unscrewed from the back.

Answer:Says plugged in and charging, but is not charging. Just got motherboard fixed.

If it is not charging maybe the battery is defective.
Did they gave you back the original charger?
Did they install another different motherboard which might use a different charger?
You may need to contact the person who repaired it to find out.

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).
 
2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS. 
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

I am not sure if the battery is the problem, but it seems to be. When plugged in, the battery will not charge UNLESS the computer is shut down. Then it seems to charge. When turned back on, it might charge for a minute or two but then it's back to the message "plugged in, not charging." The battery life stays consistant when plugged in, it just won't charge any higher. At the moment it is stuck at 87% after dying on me this morning. I was working perfectly last night.  I have taken the battery out and turned the computer on with only the AC plugged in and it does work. My theory is it's the battery but I'm not sure.  The last thing I did was run a battery test and an AC adapter test through the UEFI menu. Both passed. Can someone please help? I am so lost on what I should do now!

I found out yesterday morning that for some reason, the battery on my laptop isn't charging. I'm staying at my mother's house for the weekend and since then the problem has occured. At home, it always charged properly and never gave me any problems.  Could I need a new battery? I've tried going to Device Manager and uninstalling and re-installing drivers and the whole 9 yards, yet the problem still persists. Thank you in advance

Hi all,I have a brand new i7 Yoga 13 running windows 8 from Best Buy. As soon as it booted up, I have not been able to charge my battery. As I hover over the icon, it says "Plugged in and Charging" but it does not include a percentage. I have had it plugged in overnight, and if I unplug the computer, it will die immediately. I have tried updating my BIOS, energy managment and setting it to "Maximum battery life," but nothing changes. Thoughts?Thanks

I have HP pavilion RT3290 from 2 year,Nowadays i find when i plugge in charger it will charge but after 84% of charging it show plugged in, not charging tag.Simmilearly on bettery system get shutdown when 40%bettery remaining without showing any battery warning  of 7% and 5%.

My dell Inspiron 3420 bios version A09 suddenly stopped charging battery , and the power icon show this message(Plugged in and charging) but my battery does not charge.
I tested another charger and another battery but did not help.
Thinking that changing bios might  help,I am trying to change the bios but can't downgrade even i tried /forceit command. 
I can access logic board if for troubleshooting someone could educate me about  voltages of sda, scl and dc jack connector to the board.

To whom it may concern.I am in desperate help..... I have tried every solution i have managed to find on the internet but none of them work. I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 Laptop. When plugging the power supply in the batery shows that its charging but it never actually charges but simply remians on at same level.....I have checked the power supply as I have an exact duplicate laptop at my disposal, same with the battery. The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

My G50-70 of less than a year just got a dead battery. The battery is constantly at 7%. It says "Plugged in, charging" but it doesn't actually charge. Please help!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.
 
 Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.
 
Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.
 
Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

I just plugged in a brand new battery and it says that it's plugged in and charging but it isn't actually charging. I've searched the internet and I've come up with possiblythe power brick not having enough juice to charge the battery. My power brick says Input: AC100-240V 1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 20V --- 4.5A it being a motherboard problem. Is there any utility or tutorial on how to check to see if it's a motherboard problem?  Any other suggestions on how to solve this issue or at least identify the problem would be much appreciated.

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.
 
I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.
 
What else can I do?

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.
 
a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

So I unboxed my Ideapad Y500 yesterday and it's working wonderfully...that is, everything except my battery. When it was running low at 10% battery life last night I decided to plug in the AC adapter, which, as is normal, caused the battery icon in the corner to read "10% available (plugged in, charging)". However, what's not normal is that when I turned the laptop off and left it to charge overnight, the battery indicator light at the front of the system was still orange/red, occasionally flashing. I turned on my system again to find that my battery life hadn't budged at all despite recognizing that the adapter was plugged in and charging. I know other people have asked about something like this, though most of them say their battery icon reads "plugged in, not charging", so I'm not sure how to solve it. Any help would be appreciated!

HiNot sure it is happening but can you try this:remove battery and ac adapter; press and hold the power button for 30-40 seconds and then put it all together. Hope fully it should fix the problem.Regards

I have a Lenovo G580 laptop. I formatted my system and it was working good but slow before formatting. After formatting i got a status of 49% available(Plugged in, Not Charging). I shut down my system completely and removed the adaptar and found that the battery light is still glowing. I remove the battery and inserted. I still found the battery light is glowing. Then i started the system with adaptar checked status as (plugged in, charging) but the power percentage is not going up. I decided to drain the battery and then check, so i was working without the adaptar & the power drained normally in usual time.Then i plugged in to adaptar and Currently the status is "0% (Plugged in, Charging)"  but its not charging.   Please help.

Youre troubleshooting is correct and pointed out the battery.
   One last thing you could try is to run the Battery gauge reset via the Lenovo Energy Management software,
 If that still gave you the same problem I suggest having the battery Replaced via warranty claim or by purchasing a new battery.

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

HI... my lappy was working fine with win 7 ultimate 32 bit but but but..
so i didn't used the lappy and after a few months when turned it on without AC adapter it didn't turn on. so i connected to ac adapter and when i loged in, the battry icon said "0% pluged in not chraging".
there are loades of thesame issue online but i just couldn't bother readig.....

Have you tried doing this ... (it's a bit confusing, but it has worked for some laptops that I've come across with the same issues)

01. Turn off laptop.
02. Unplug AC power.
03. Remove battery.
04. Replace AC power.
05. Turn on laptop, allow OS to boot.
06. Once logged in to the machine, perform a normal shut down.
07. Unplug AC power.
08. Replace battery.
09. Replace AC power.
10. Turn on laptop, allow OS to boot. The battery should once again be charging as normal.

Computer: Yoga 13When purchased: Christmas of 2012. Problem: Recently I discovered my computer in the bottom right when you hover over the battery icon states "Plugged in, not charging". And well enough, my battery charge is stagnate. It neither rises or falls when plugged in. And while funtional, as a college student this completely screws me for notes. I looked around, and one solution offered a temporary fix: To temporarily uninstall the batteries from the Device Manager, and scan for hardware changes to reinstall them. This worked for a few minutes, but randomly stopped working. Repeating the solution didn't seem to work. Currently, my battery information has the following two battery information bits in it; Microsft AC AdapterMicrosoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery I have not had issues with the battery or laptop until now. The battery charger is largely undamaged, except for the rubber protecting casing around the wires having naturally (being bent or whatever) pulled away. The wires appear fine. And it has been exposed for some time. I'm not sure what to do here. Suggestions would be welcomed.

Hi,My laptop is showing plugged in and not charging. It's on 0% so I cannot use the laptop without a plug. I have tried a battery gauge reset which didn't work, the firmware update which said it was uncompatible with my machine and I have also uninstalled energy management as these were all suggestions on other posts. My laptop is in warranty.This isn't the only problem- my trackpad is jumpy, freezes everytime I use the laptop and my scroll functions only work half the time. How do I send my laptop into repair for these problems? Or can anyone help me with fixes?Thank you

Started up my laptop and error message, battery out of memory. Hit enter to resart computer. Went to check on battery level and said plugged in not charging. Not sure what this means and how to fix the issue. I've had the laptop since Febuary 2015 with no issues.

While connecting ac adaptor charging starts for 2 seconds ang gets white light. I have Dell inspiron 13 7359 laptop. I bought this in November 2015. I have a strange problem with this laptop currently.  When i plug it in, it shows "Plugged in not charging" and the laptop speed dramatically slows down. When i unplug it, it behaves normally. 
It also displays "AC Adapter not recognized" while booting up. I tried everything i can.
1) I bought a new AC adapter - when i plugged it in for the first time it got charged, i thought the problem is fixed. Then the issue started occurring since the second charge onwards.
2) I updated the BIOS - Did not fix the problem
3) I Reinstalled the windows - Did not fix the problem
4) I replaced the battery - Did not fix the problem
5) I replaced the DC connector (the DC socket to the laptop) - Did not fix the problem
6) I even replaced the mother board - Did not fix the problem.
7) I tried charging it at different power outlets - Did not fix the problem
8) I bought a new AC adapter (this time 65W) - Worked for the first charge, but it behaves the same way from the second charge onwards. 
I am really fed up with this and don't know what to do. Please help me. I stay in a small country in Illinois and have no authorized dell service centre to which i can take my laptop to. Any kind of help would be appreciated.

I have been experiencing this issue for a few weeks now. The battery icon indicates my percentage of available battery and then "plugged in, not charging". I have gone through all forums and tried the following:- Uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, then shutting down and searching for hardware changes to reinstall. When I click uninstall, it starts uninstalling, then stops, removes it, but this doesn't help.- Updating the battery drivers and the adapter drivers.- I ran a battery report to see if there was an issue with the battery (my laptop is 2 years old) and it came out clean.- I have tried to run the battery fix in the HP troubleshooter, but it comes back with "battery current status unknown".- I have refreshed the whole laptop, deleting and reinstalling everything.All the HP fixes on your webpage is only for removable batteries, while mine is integrated and I would have to pick apart the whole laptop to get it out. Of course I have also checked that there are no issues with the charger itself and that there is no smell of burnt plastic etc. in any of the parts.Hope someone can help as a last resort before handing it in to tech repair.

Hey everyone,

I have had my Lenovo Z580 for little over a week and I have been greeted with the well known plugged in, not charging message. I have had this issue on previous laptops that I have owned. However, this problem is slightly different.

Let me begin by explaining how this problem began. I was on my laptop a few nights ago and the battery was being charged and I was quite tired so I decided to shut down the laptop and go to bed. The laptop was charged to around 95% and I thought I would continue to charge it the next day. The next day I put the charger in and soon realised it wasn't charging. I tried all the usual methods of removing the battery, uninstalling the battery from device manager and so on. These methods did not work. So, I went ahead and let the battery drop to around 4%. When letting the battery drop to this level I won't receive the plugged in, not charging message. However, if my battery is at a point between 95/90% and around 15% I will receive the plugged in, not charging message. However, this is where I am confused. If I click the battery icon it will begin charging the battery.

So, it is my understanding there must be some sort of setting somewhere that causes my battery to charge upon the battery icon being clicked.

Has anyone heard of such problem before? and if so, how do I go around sorting such problem?

Hi,

I recently got a new HP laptop with Win7 pro installed. When the battery is 95-99% it does not charge. It say PLUGGED in NOT CHARGING.

I got replacement laptop and that also have same issue.
I tried with new AC adaptor and same issue.

I uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and same issue.

Googled as well and tried but nonthing seems to be working.

I contacted HP again and they said that some issue might be with system board.
I took 10 days to transfer data to this laptop with all s/w...

Can someone please help me to resolve the issue or suggest whether its hardware issue or Win 7 issue.

It may be a failsafe to avoid overcharging of the batts, but the fools at HP tech support should have been able to tell you that if it was the case. However with HP outsourcing tech support to India, Roger (I mean Rajah) and his tech support isnt the highest level.

If your lappy batt charges fine when it's totally depleted, I wouldnt worry. And really you shouldnt be topping off a charge at 95-99%... LET IT DRAIN!

My 5 months old Dell XPS 15 was running low on battery and when I plugged in my charger I saw the message: "plugged in and not charging". I contacted Dell Support but I'm wondering if there is something I can do in the meantime?I already tried to update my bios in the hope that would help but my battery is at 7% at this moment and Dell doesn't allow a bios update when battery percentage is below 10%.

What is the exact system model? 
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Ensure you back up all imp data on the system and then force the BIOS flash if required - http://dell.to/2hnhjs4
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test with another adapter and battery first, if the adapter fits in loose, then replace the dc port, if nothing works, then the motherboard might be at fault.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

It has been 3 months the battery is not getting charged. When I hover the mouse, it shows "Plugged in, not charging" And now the battery is not giving any backup at all. The moment I remove the AC Adapter, it turns off. I know it can be fixed by the Firmware update but I am not able to find any BIOS update on HP website.Please help me with this issue.  Just give the steps and I will be doing the troubleshooting myself.

Do you know if the laptop is still under warranty? Here a few things to try: 1. Unplug the powercord from the outlet, wait a few minutes then plug it in a different outlet in a different room. 2.  Examine the entire length of the power cord for tears, dents, and worn-down insulation. If you notice any, or if the power brick is warped or smells like burnt plastic, the cord is probably faulty. 3. If the cord's attachment to your laptop wobbles or feels loose, there could be a problem with the connection. Unplug the cord, remove debris with a wooden toothpick, and remove heavy dust build-up with compressed air. 4. Shut down the computer, remove the battery, and plug the computer in. If the computer won't turn on, you probably need a new cord. If you can start it up again in this situation, the charging issue is probably due to the battery itself, or your computer's interaction with the battery.

There are many threads  available on the subject "Plugged in Not Charging".  I have an Acer Aspire S7 running Windows 10.  It originally came with Windows 8 which Microsoft updated to Windows 10.  The battery IS NOT removable
or replaceable.  Hovering over the battery icon displays "9% available (plugged in not charging)".  Stopping/Starting or uninstall/reinstall ACPI driver for battery in the Device Manager does NOTHING.  Putting a paper clip in the access
hole to reset the battery per Acer instruction does NOTHING.  When this computer was new, I had 3-4 hours on internal battery and 3-4 hours an the external battery for a combined 6-8 hours.  Now I get 1-2 with the external battery attached and nothing
without it.  The internal battery does not charge at all.  Is there anything I can do?

Hi there,

I have been having multiple problems with my laptop, even after doing clean re-instal twice.

When ever I plug in the charger, it says-plugged in, not charging. I googled the problem and read about the following advice in a thread here, it advised me to shutdown the laptop, take out the battery, restart, go to device manager, under batteries, uninstall Microsoft ACPI- Complaint Control Method battery, shut down, replece battery and it will work. Well, it does work, till such time it is on and its back to square one after it is restarted.

good day, new member here, i have a lenovo ideapad, i have read some of the threads under "plugged in, not charging" with the solutions on the device manager control method battery uninstall and install. but here is my scenario, my laptop is 4 years old, everything was working just fine, my laptop was unplugged and im working with it running on battery power, when it suddenly turned off (the battery was not drained it was 95%), it did not re start until i plugged it and it was running plugged to the AC charger, but now it wont charge, if you un plug it, the laptop turns off as well even if it still had some battery percentage left, it is now a compact desktop, can somebody help?

Most likely you need a new battery.

Four years is a pretty good life span for laptop batteries, and when they go they do not always give warning. Sometimes it is "blink", just like a light bulb.

One thing to check is that the battery is fully seated and clicked in, and that the contacts are clean and not obstructed by dust.

Other than some change you made to settings or hardware, if everything was status quo and it just stopped working then it is probably no more complicated than that.

First, I have Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop 2 year old. Three days ago there was no electricity about 3 or 4 hours. Аfter a while came to power and the power is off for 5 or 10 min. During that time the laptop was turned on while the electricity is off, it was working on the battery not plug in.. After suddenly there was power and then ran out and then came electricity. It was a problem of electricity in my municipality. For many hours then when he came voltage electricity, i turn the laptop and the battery ac adapter was 22% available and say: plugged in, not charging. What is the reason why my battery will not charge? Now is plugged but now charging. Earlier when cable was plugged in, the battery was charging. What should i do to fix the problem?

I suppose it's possible that your charger or the adapter where it attaches to the motherboard got fried when the power came back on due to a surge. Is there a small green light on the power cord and a light on where it plugs into the motherboard?

There should also be a small LED on the front of the computer that gets lit when it's plugged in. Do you have that light?

You might try unplugging the AC and removing the battery. Hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. Then just plug the AC in and leave the battery out.

Battery claims it is at 97% charge... I have not unplugged the AC Adapter at any point in the last couple of months while the system was on, so that battery SHOULD BE reading 100%.

I only just started keeping the battery plugged in while using the system on all AC Power for the sake of not worrying if the battery is going to explode just sitting on the desk, permanently lose charge capacity, or something else. My mom's battery has been plugged in while she uses the AC for the last year without this issue... that said, the last time we had this problem, with a Dell 1525, the MB fried out taking all the fans, the AC adapter AND the battery out of commission.

What do I need to check, or run, to figure out what the heck is going on here? I don't want to do anything until I'm sure whatever it is won't cause any further, more serious problems. I'm out of the warranty... so need to be careful here.

Also, I did recently suffer a BSOD but suspect Silverlight from Netflix as the cause as that is what I was doing at the time of that incident (it crashed just before that BSOD), however now I've noticed this... I just don't know.

Batteries should be re-cycled (allowed to drain competely) every month or so, or the lose the capacity to fully charge suspect that is what is going on here.

Try to re-cycle per mfr's directions.

The laptop is plugged in and the little LED light is on. The laptop is currently at 8% and is working fine but the battery is not charging. Further, the fan inside the laptop has been working continuously for the past half an hour. I request you suggest me ways to take care of this myself as I have exams  right now and won't be able to take the laptop to a service center. My laptop is an i7 5th Gen with serial number 5CD5174XQ6.

when i do a search online, this seems to be a common problem with acer laptops. obviously you cannot remove the battery since it is built in the S3 as a lot of people have suggested to do that with removable batteries to reset it. the issue appears to be intermittent. sometimes it says 100% charged but other times it says 98% available (plugged in, not charging). even though there is a lot of people complaining about this on the internet, i cannot find a solution to this issue. please help. thank you.

Hi Igbalfa This problem isn't particularly an Acer fault - it is a Windows Anomaly! Shutdown laptop & remove power cable. Underneath your laptop there is a battery reset pinhole. Use a pin or a paperclip to reset the battery. If that alone doesn't work then additionally: Connect power & restartGo to device manager (right click "Computer" & select manage)Under the Batteries section, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery (or similar) listings, and select Uninstall.Shutdown laptop & disconnect mains powerReset your battery (as above)Connect power & restartHopefully, the message will be gone & it should now charge.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 running windows 7 RC and recently developed this problem a couple of nights ago. On and off before that I would get the message, unplugged the AC power, plug it back in and it would start charging again. It has now developed into a permanent problem.I have googled this issue and found everything I can find on how to fix it, but nothing seems to work. Others have tried replacing batteries, motherboards, power supplies and reloading OS's. What works for one person doesn't always work for another. Most solutions are just temporary band-aids to what seems to be a growing problem. Has this issue been addressed in the final release? I had been running windows XP for years and never had a problem; it has only been since installing Windows 7 that the problem began. If this is a driver issue inside of Windows is Microsoft planning on issuing an update to fix the issue or are they just banking on 7 fixing all the issues that Vista has? This is not a brand specific issue as far as PC's go, I am an IT professional and have spoken with many other IT folks about it and nobody has been able to get an answer out of Microsoft and the laptop companies (Dell, HP ect.) are milking more money out of users by telling them they need new batteries, power supplies and motherboards that at best are a temporary solution. This issue really needs to be addressed.

I have an Inspiron 1525 running Vista Home edition which is just over 12 months old. I recently noticed the tool tip message when I hover over the power icon states ?Plugged In Not Charging?. Initially I assumed I needed a new battery however the new battery has the same message. I also changed the power supply alas to no avail...my laptop is now effectively a desktop as I cannot re-charge the battery.I Googled 1525 Plugged In Not Charging and was surprised to see this is a common issue with no apparent fix. There are multiple 'voodoo fixes' like removing the battery a number of times while pressing the power button, blowing into the power inlet, turning the laptop upside down, etc all of which lead me to believe this is an issue with the DS2 LIO, the power connection or connection between the LIO and Motherboard or the Motherboard itself. When I disassembled my laptop I found the heat sink and fan sit adjacent to the LIO board which makes me believe the issue is being caused by overheating and as such is an inherent design flaw. I would like to know if anyone else has any other theories or even better a fix as I do not expect a response from Dell especially as my 13 month laptop is out of warranty.

Have you tried taking the battery off and taking the power socket off and pressing down on the start button for 10 seconds.Then attach everything again and see if there is any response.I have read on here that with some things you actually have a 2 year warranty.Whether that would apply to your laptop I am not sure.

Laptop flashing white LED, Battery plugged in but not charging... in the past I have updated the bios and that fixed the issue but I have searched and cannot find any update. HEY D!#Ks AT HP THIS MAKES YOUR COMPUTERS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!I find it entirely frustrating to continuously run into this problem. when I do buy a new laptop you bet it will not be HP or any other brand associated with you! Sorry for the rant. anyone please help.

Hi, I need some advice about my Dell Inspiron Laptop not charging. I have a new battery installed and for some reasons at times it appears to charge and at other times it's not charging. At this time the computer is on/plugged in and when I click the battery icon on the bottom task bar icon it states "22% available (plugged in, not charging)". I had the computer shut off, but plugged in and it didn't charge the battery. Any ideas as to where to start looking? I appreciate any advice.

My laptop says it is "plugged in, not charging".I have restarted twice.I have tried using the adapter for another Pavillion Notebook 15, it does not help.I ran the HP Support Assistant battery check, my computer charged whilst the check took place (I got to 3%), the test said the battery was "ok" and finished.  Shortly after the notebook stopped charging again.What should I try next?ThanksC

I have had it with Vista. Out of all the 6 computers I have had, this is my only one with Vista and to tell you the truth, this has had the most problems. This never happened to me since recently. Whenever I plug in my computer to AC power, it shows as plugged in, not charging. I take it out for a while to cool it down, and then after about 15-20 minutes I put it back in, and it shows as fine. When I scan it with HP Battery Check (during "plugged in, not charging") it shows as "Replace Battery". When I scan it after I fix the problem (plugged in, charging) it shows as "Good". Then after approximately 2 hours it again shows as plugged in, not charging. Does anybody know why?

Battery is 100% charged, After 2 days in ac power it shows 98%, plugged not charging. Then if I use the battery for a while less than 95% and if i plugged it in ac power, it starts charging and become 100%, fully charged. After two days it show 98%, plugged not charging.
So it is charging, but not holding the charge for some days. Battery replaced with a new one. Laptop is still under waranty.
I am getting 2 hour 20 minutes battery backup.
Would like to know is it a hardware or vista problem?

That happens for me too very often =).
That isn`t a issue, if it isn`t charging is because it already charged and now he is holding. For me it stays always at 99% charged, not charging.

The usual problem of battery "plugged in and ot charging".. Only thing is that this is an inbuilt battery and non removable! So cant use the normal method as posted out on forum for same category.I have 1+1 year warranty on this product and interestingly the battery started showing this problem just as soon as warranty for battery expired. Want to know is someone else faced this issue too! and what's the solution.

Our laptop is a Dell Latitude E6520, and runs on windows 7. When the battery icon is opened it says "plugged in, not charging". The battery is brand new. Do you know how to fix this?

P.S. Sometimes i can get it to charge, but if unplugged it becomes slow and will not charge again for awhile

Hi, My HP Pavilion DM4 is showing 0% available (plugged in, charging).As soon as I disconnect AC, laptop turns off. I tried following but problem is still there:-1.) Switched off laptop.. Disconnected all wires. Pulled out battery from laptop keeps pressing power button for 30 seconds. Reconnected battery switched on Laptop and when the OS comes up. Issue is till seen. 2.) In Windows 7, Under the Batteries category, Uninstalled "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery"  and after that on the Device Manager taskbar, clicked Scan for hardware changes. After that device manager detects Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery component and reinstalls it. But even after that problem is not solved. Please help me out. Regards,Vibhor Jain

My T61 always says "plugged in, not charging."Some Google searching led me to a fix - in Device Manager, I mess with the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Battery Control Method heading.  Sometimes, I can just disable then enable it, and the battery starts charging.  Other times I have to uninstall it and scan for hardware changes, or remove the physical battery somewhere in the mix, or restart the computer, or a combination of these maneuvers.No problem, it's fixed, not a big deal.The real problem is that it will charge up about 3-5%, then go back to not charging.  I have to do this about 20 times to get a full charge.  Insanely annoying.  Occasionally, I can plug it in and it charges up like it should, but more often than not I have to go through this hassle. Other than this, the battery charges in a normal amount of time, and discharges in a normal amount of time.Lenovo Power Manager says nothing is wrong with the battery.  I tried the battery maintenence thing, no change.I've attempted to update drivers, re-install the power manager, no changes.My battery wasn't part of the recall.I have a T61, Win7 x64, T7300 2Ghz processor, 4GB RAM Does anyone have a permenant fix for this, or a cause at least?Thanks,-Matt

I?ve tried to uninstall the ACPI compliant control driver, but that does not work. The problem comes over and over. Does anyone have a more permenant solution?

Hello! Recently my adapter burned due to being exposed to water. Anyway, I contacted the Hp parts store and ordered the replacement adapter. However, when I plugged it in it shows that it is charging  then suddenly it stops and it says (Plugged in, not charging). I ordered the adapter's replacement that was mentioned on my old adapter. I have no idea what could be causing the problem!Please help!

I bought a replacement battery as my original battery would charge but not lose charge quickly.  I've been thru two replacement batteries that test fine but still get the plugged in, not charging message.  I've tried the ACPI delete, power down, etc. process and it has not helped.  The AC adapter is working as it does charge the old battery.  When i replace the new battery with the old battery it shows plugged in, charging!!  Not sure what else to do.

Hi, I have a dv7-3111ea notebook and i get this message "plugged in, not charging" i replaced my battery with a new one but still says "plugged in, not charging" most of the time? ps does a new battery have to be calibrated? because i brought a new hp battery and when tested the battery with hp battery tester in the boot menu, the battery test failed and the when i tryed to do it again, it started to caliberate. why did that happen when it's a new battery???

Hi,      Basically my Hp laptop that i have had for just over year is coming up with 'plugged in not charging' or just doesnt recognise the charger at all. My laptop will only charge if it is in sleep mode or completely turned off. With just AC adaptor plugged in with no battery, my laptop will not turn on. I have ran all the tests on the battery and they have passed. Really need help to figure out what is wrong because all methods used on internet does not work. One did work for about 2 weeks then started to play up again. I have even downgraded the updates on my laptop form windows 10 to 8 and still doesnt work.  Need advise soon as. Many thanks.

I have a Latitude E5440 and I just started getting the dreaded plugged in, not charging issue. It charges to about 60% and then just stops. I've tried about everything out there aside from replacing the motherboard. I noticed that during charging, it stops when power crosses charge. Not sure if this means its a software issue or not, but was interested to see if anyone had a solution.

First thing to check is whether or not the AC adapter is recognized - F2 at powerup to check.
If it is recognized, but the battery only charges partially, it's likely a bad battery.
If it is not  recognized, first replace the AC adapter with a new OEM Dell adapter.  If that doesn't solve the problem, next replace the DC jack:

and if that fails to fix the problem, replace the mainboard.

Laptop Battery not showing Charging1. Turn off the computer, 2. Take the battery out 3. Take out the power supply 4. Push the power button down for 30 seconds. 5. Reconnect power supply 6. Then the battery. Should now show 100% charged. This is because sometimes the mother board gets static and this clears it and the reason it showed not charging was because it was fully charged.
