New G50-80 touchpad randomly not functioning correctly

Question: New G50-80 touchpad randomly not functioning correctly

I have a new G50-80 that has a strange touchpad issue. Randomy the touchpad will respond sluggishly or not at all. At other times using the touchpad will cause web pages and the like to resize, as if I was using two fingers. The tray icon also shows two or more pressure indicators when the touchpad is playing up. What is the best course of action? I have already tried updating the touchpad drivers with no success.

Preferred Solution: New G50-80 touchpad randomly not functioning correctly

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been dealing with this for a couple days now. My mouse will right click but not left click. I have googled this and tried everything. Updates, Uninstalling drivers then installing it again, CCleaner, switching primary and secondary buttons, everything. My secondary button works fine. Its my primary button used for clicking that is the problem. Tapping doesn't work and neither does the clicking. The only time tapping works is when I change primary and secondary buttons. But then my secondary button, which is usually my primary button, does not work. I am using a usb mouse on my laptop right now and I have no problem with the secondary or primary button or anything on the usb mouse. But the one that comes with the laptop is what is screwing up. Answer:My left Laptop Mouse (and TouchPad) is not Functioning Correctly

Hey there pink2u,

I wanted to gain a little bit more clarity on your issue. When it first started occuring a few days ago, were there any updates that took place around the same time?

And to clarify, it is the touchpad as a whole with the exception of the right button just above the trackpad that isn't functioning?

Hi.My new Lenovo S430's Trackpad works most of the time but sometimes just suddenly stops working and I have to restart the laptop using keyboard navigation Often this happens when the machine is under load like an antivirus scan or similar. Sometimes the Trackpad is also sluggish to respond, like it ignores the first touch. The Trackpoint and mouse buttons (the ones above the Touchpad) work for the first 3-5 minutes after boot up and then suddenly stops working and doesn't start again until it's restarted. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling most of the drivers (for various other issues) on the machine but it hasn't helped. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Edge S430 - Touchpad, Trackpoint & Mouse Buttons Not Functioning Correctly

News on this problem: now nothing works except the keyboard. I'm stuck using a usb mouse. The bios config page for keyboard/mouse only shows options for the Fn keys. The laptop also bricked itself briefly and gave an error beep (1, 3, 3, 1) which seems to indicate a problem with the DIMM or system board. What can I do? Will a system restore help or should I just send it back? I need help.

Hi
My USB drivers are showing up as fine, but certain devices wont work. My wife got a "Elmo knows your name" doll and the USB functionality on that doesnt work, and this is the second doll we've gotten. My webcam also stopped working with AOL. We could use video chat for a couple weeks, then it stopped working. The thing is though, my digital camera hooks up and uploads pictures just fine. The elmo doll loads up to like 95% then has an error. The elmo tech support couldnt help.
Also, my graphire drawing tablet works fine.

thanks!

Hello Fett and Welcome to TSF,

Have you tried to either update the drivers or uninstall and reinstall the USB devices?
Also have you got any driver CD's with these items? If so, try reinstalling the drivers with the manufacturer's CD that came with them.

Give it a got and post back.
Kind Regards,
Dave T.

WinXP home IE8

I use the software program Secunia PSI to scan, check, and monitor my operating system for faulty programs that require updates. Recently when I am notified by Secunia that I have an insecure program or programs and attempt to link to the program update recommended by Secunia, I get the following window:

"The link you are trying to open requires Internet Explorer to function correctly and will therefore not use your default browser!"
Press OK to continue!

I press OK, but I am not able to open an update.

IE8 IS my Default browser, and Firefox is my secondary browser.

What's going on here?

I have a user whose F1 and F2 keys are not working as normal. I.e. F1 to open Help Menu in Excel and F2 to Edit the Cell.

What I have tried already:
Keyboard is plugged in securely
All the device drivers are up-to-date
PC has been restarted multiple times
There is no system error when PC reboots
There are no beeping sounds either
There is no problem with other users? keyboards
Regional settings are also correct for the keyboard - UK Keyboard
Booted in Safe mode and the F1 and F2 keys function correctly
Uninstalled and re-installed the keyboard drivers
Tried replacing the keyboard with a Wireless Keyboard - didn't work
Tried replacing the keyboard with a Wired PS/2 keyboard - didn't work
Tried replacing the keyboard with a Wired USB keyboard - didn't work
Replaced the entire PC with a clean PC - still the same problem !

Am using a HP keyboard Model: KU-0316.

The PC Tower works fine in my office just not on the users desk?!

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 Series laptop here running Windows 8.1 64bit. Everything has been fine up until this point.

Over the past few days I've been having the machine give me nothing but a headache.

I've done all the hardware testing. Temps, CHKDSK, Memory Check, etc. have all passed fine.

Windows is fully updated, with no new software recently installed and drivers running the latest version.

Windows Explorer, IE, and Office have been constantly crashing, freezing, or locking up. I decided to run a SFC scan, only for Windows to report that my system has some corrupt files, and by the looks of the log, there's a lot of them.

Please see the attached document for the CBS log.

Refresh your PC without affecting your files. Follow instructions in below link. Hope this helps

I was wondering if my repeater is functioning correctly. I have a linksys router and the repeater its self is a linksys. I have two laptops and my one lap top shows that im at 100 percent when im next to the repeater. But the other laptop says its only at 50 percent. The percentage also fluctuates on both laptops as well. If im sitting right next to the repeater shouldn't it be at 100 or at least close to 100 percent?

Answer:Is my repeater functioning correctly?

What is telling you these percentages? 50 and 100% of what?

Do you see any performance problems? Note a repeater is typically used to extend usable range of the wireless network. Can you still operate at the same distances?

Hello all!

My problem is that my CD/DVD drive has stopped functioning properly. It started a couple of weeks ago; I was trying to burn some work onto a CD, and it never finished its preliminary formatting (I never even got the chance to put anyone on the disc). I just got an error message saying something along the lines of 'Windows could not complete the format'. Now, when I tried to use that CD in another computer, the CD couldn't be used. I found it odd, because I can remember that the night before, I was ripping some music CD's completely fine.

Also, my friend made me a CD with some music on. When I put it in to rip the tracks off, it came up saying that I had inserted a Blank CD and asked if I wanted to burn it. Obviously I didn't so I ejected it, and tried the CD on a different computer and it was fine. I tried a different CD that he made, and the exact same thing happened.

So basically, my drive is recognising that there is a disc in there, but it's not doing what it should be doing!

Any help that anyone can give will be great.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:CD/DVD Drive not functioning correctly.

Does your drive recognise other media? Other burned CD's, retail CD's?
Some drives still just don't like some media for whatever reason.
I've had burns fail too, try new media and it works fine.

Try some different things and see if what works and what doesn't (if anything). I could be worth using a cleaner on it. If it still fails buy a new one. There cheap now days.

What I would do is do a RESTORE POINT from a previous day that the problem didn't extist. That would at least get you back on level ground.

I have a CD BURNER (SONY CD-RW CRX100E) on my PC.... However, whenever I try to burn an audio CD... something always goes wrong.

I have tried several burning programs such as DEEP-BURNER, Burn for FREE etc... and I either get an ASCI error message or another error message about an RPC STUB or something....

Someone suggested that my burning hardware is not working correctly.

However, when I go into the device manager and look around, it says the device is working properly and that it has updated drivers.

I just cannot get any of these programs to burn a disk for me.

Any ideas as to what may be happening here? If it says the device is working properly, is that telling me that the burner hardware is OK or is it something to do with these programs?

Thanks in advance

DAVID

A friend asked me to help solve a problem with his 5 year old Fujitsu Siemens Windows XP desktop computer. It kept freezing, not responding to mouse clicks and suddemly closing down on its own.I tried various things including a full malware scan and clean up, dust removal inside case, check for loose components etc - but the problem remained. I decided to get back to basics - swapped the hard drive (IDE ATA133) for a spare one I knew to be perfect and used the Fujitsu Siemens recovery disc to format the drive and instal a clean copy of XP.This went OK but upon booting the computer still shows errant mouse behaviour. Sometimes it will not respond to a mouse click - but if I just open and close task manager, without doing anything with it, the mouse comes to life again. A permanent problem is that the desktop icons cannot be moved - they jump back to their original position (even though the desktop settings are correct)and icons cannot be dragged into the quick launch taskbar.I have tried 3 diffrent mouses - both USB and PS2 without success and have re-installed XP yet again in case the original installation was corrupted. I have even tried using a retail XP CD to install XP from an independent source - but the same behaviour continues. It would therefore appear to be a problem with the computer - rather than with the XP software - but having changed the hard drive I am stumped what it could be.Any ideas...?

Having an odd problem with my laptop (Dell 1440). I recently noticed that my laptop touch pad had stopped working within Windows 7, yet the external mouse I had attached still did. However, it's odd because I also have windows XP dual booted on my machine along with my Windows 7 installation, and the same touch pad driver still functions correctly within XP. So, what I did is attempt to uninstall the Alps touch pad driver and reinstall it. After uninstalling it, I noticed that the driver that was installed by default within Windows 7, works just fine. However, after reinstalling the Alps touch pad driver from the Dell website, my touch pad stops working once again. Does anyone know why my computer is exhibiting this behavior, and if so, what can I do to fix it?

Thanks,
Mike

Answer:Laptop Touch Pad Not Functioning Correctly

You said the touchpad driver installed by Windows 7 from it's own driver library "works just fine", so why didn't you simply leave it at that instead of messing it up with the driver from Dell?
Once something starts to work properly, leave it alone!

Just because Dell has driver doesn't mean you have to use it if the device in question is already working okay.

Remove the Dell driver and let Windows 7 install it's own driver again, then leave it!

Microsoft went to great lengths with Windows 7 to include many more third-party drivers so we would have less drivers to download & install manually.

Hi Malwaretips Staff,

Please help. I am having some problems with the Malwarebytes software. I get strange messages when I update the software, and the protection tab keeps unchecking the boxes by themselves. I have tried all the main Anti-Malware/Anti-Adware tools that MalwareTips recommends, TDSS Killer, RKill, Rogue Killer, ADW Cleaner, MalwareBytes scan, SuperAnti-Spyware Scan, HitmanPro scan,EmsisoftScan,Junkware Removal Tool, but still the problem persists.

I even contacted Malwarebytes tech support to help me regarding this, and have followed their instructions, but the problem still persists (please read the email correspondence below).

Here is the conversation I had with Malwarebytes. Perhaps you guys at MalwareTips be able to help me?

I'm running Windows XP SP3, and I noticed my computer booting slower than usual. When I restarted tonight, CHKDSK ran and fixed some errors. Then, when Windows booted up, my wallpaper was missing, and several elements in my system tray did not load. My taskbar is locked, and when I unlock it, the option stays checked and it stays locked.

When I accessed the internet, certain pages, such as gmail, would not load - but other pages had no problem.

I have an ATI video card, and I cannot access my control center - Windows gives a command line interface error.

Hello,
I use the FortiClient SSL application to connect to work. In Windows 7 x64 it works without issue. In Windows 8 Build 9200 it exhibits and odd behaviour.
I can connect using FortiClient version 4.4.3.445. Once connected my sent bytes continues to increase which is correct. However received bytes stays at 0.
If I try to Remote Desktop it fails.  This is obviously due to no inbound packets coming back from the Fortigate appliance being allowed back to Windows 8.
Disabling the Firewall doesn't have any affect on the condition. Received bytes stays at 0.
This is a clean install with no 3rd party applications, other than the Forticlient software. This is only the SSL VPN portion of  the the FortiClient software and does not included AV or Firewall options.
Doing some Googling, I've seen some other people with the same problem but no resolution. Another FortiClient user and Sophos & Juniper SSL VPN clients having the same problem.
Does anybody have any idea what would be causing the SSL VPN to only send bytes but not receive.
Thanks!
UPDATE 2:
In the built in MSTSC.exe "Remote Desktop" I went into Options/Advanced/Server Authentication. I switched the setting to "Connect and don't warn me" and that fixed the problem. The default was "Warn Me' However the warning screen was not coming up.
Just for the heck of it I switched it back to the default settings and saved. Strangely I now get the "Warning" screen... Read more

I'm afraid with that description, it's hard to be sure what the failure is.

I suggest you obtain a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE Adapter and connect the hard disk to your secondary IDE channel in a desktop. Remove the devices (CD's, etc.) on the secondary channel temporarily for the test. You can test the drive there, and if it's bad, you have your answer.

Hi. I recently restored my system on my Lenovo laptop R61i.  It worked.  I reinstalled several applications that were missing files or just would not open.  That was pretty easy.  Avast was difficult but I finally got it up and running.  The HP printer was a nightmare, but it's working well enough now.  But, still things are not right. I cannot uninstall some programs because InstallShield does not seem to always want to work, although it works with some uninstalls.  Rescue and Recovery hangs when I try to delete a previous backup so I am nervous about backing up the system. The Lenovo software, such as the Message Center and the Toolbox, will not open.  I got a message about a missing "thread" for the Toolbox, and I was able to delete that program.  The Lenovo website cannot auto detect my system, even though I was using IE as directed, so I am a little apprehensive about downloading a Lenovo updater. I can definitely stumble along with the system the way it is, and it seems to self correct sometimes too, but if anyone has a suggestion or set of suggestions about diagnosing the problem or problems, I would appreciate it. Thanks.  Lura

Answer:XP system is not functioning correctly after a restore

some files may not be installed correctly. what i suggest is that you do a full factory restore rather than restoring from a particular saved backup. But make sure you save all the necessary documents, as this will install the OS from scratch, and when it finished it would be like in the shipping state.

I have the C50-30 All-In-One computer and the mouse wheel is acting erratically.  When i try to scroll down the screen keeps bouncing up and down.  I believe my driver is up to date.  If I plug in a logitech wireless mouse the wheel works fine but I lose function of my keyboard.  Not sure if the problem is the mouse, driver or something else.  I am a computer idiot so i have no idea what to do.  the mouse model # is SM-8861.  Any help would be appreciated.

Firstly not sure of image rules on the forums so my mistake if I'm not allowed to post or use certain extensions but here is the picture of the problem:http://i66.tinypic.com/25gbcs4.pngMy buddy replaced the screen of the laptop and sent it back to me saying he had no idea what it was wrong. He ordered same screen model ect. Anyways, when I hdmi it up to my tv it still has graphical issues, which it didn't before. When I try to open a program it's insanely slow, once it opens it literally locks up. It appears to be at 100% memory at all times. I'm positive everything's related, I'm pretty computer savvy but I don't know anything about software. Help please

I recently (today) reset my T410 to factory settings, and have been updating my software etc.At first (after factory restore) Access Connections worked fine; however, I then ran Lenovo System Update, and now Access Connections doesnt "see" any networks, and doesnt read as connected even though I am currently connected.I tried downloading the most recent version (g1c796ww.exe) and installing it, but this has not solved my problem. The internet works fine, yet Access Connections doesnt seem to be doing anything.

Answer:Access Connections not functioning/displaying correctly

So, I uninstalled Access Connections and reinstalled via Lenovo Update. It now works, yet i could only innitially connect via "details" and not  graphical... after which the graphical interface now reads  the network as being there and connected (it took a while for it to show up)I will update whether or not this "fix" sticks. For those of you who are like "Why use Access Connections at all?",--I like the customizable profiles (performance vs power savings, proxy etc)

TL;DR - After factory reset, my TL-WR841N router can no longer detect an IP using dynamic IP. Connecting my computer directly still allows me to surf the internet.

My issues with this router started when I could no longer access anything related to Google besides the search engine and Gmail. Google docs, translate, support, youtube all stopped working. After a couple days of troubleshooting I found out the problem had to do with my internet (I could still access those sites from my phone without wifi, but after connecting to the wifi I could no longer access those websites). I assumed my problems could either be with my router or my ISP, but I couldn't access 192.168.1.1 from my Macbook Air at that time (not sure why).

That's when I made the decision to reset my router, thinking that if anything I would just have to set up a new wireless network and that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, after I reset the router, the router could no longer detect an IP address using Quick Setup. I have DSL so I figure dynamic IP would work, but the router can never get an IP address.

What can I do to fix this? I'm now using a wired connection from a PC to try to fix this problem.

Dell Inspiron 1420 - Vista, it is old one was working perfectly till now.
Issue: the Keys automatically starts typing and performing various keystroke functions, also disabling may keys. Even in BIOS mode key entries were restricted
Solutions tried ( nothing worked):
Disabled the keyboard , used external keyboard USB ( doesn't resolved)
bought new dell keyboard, didn't resolved the issue
Ran in safe mode, issue persist
Formatted to factory default mode, issue persist
Observation: I see multimedia keys always blinking randomly ( can this be multimedia keys, interfacing with keyboard. I planned to remove it but it was soldered across. please confirm if I shall disable this keyboard ( hardware) as extra step, if Yes shall I remove solder or there is workaround.
Any guidance would be help if any other option to be tried

Answer:Dell Keyboard not functioning correctly even after disabling it

As my  curiosity and timelines were ending, I dared to rip out the soldering connecting to Multimedia keys/buttons circuit board, then put a tape around the ribbon cable end, booted my system. VOLA it worked no automatic typing, no freaky ghost playing on my system. Still keeping finger crossed as I unplugged only one side, i hope it does not impact and driver or systems.
I will try to find the part if available in market.
I was on edge to buy new laptop, as this issue was running for 6 months. saved me few more bucks. Will try to check if this can support Windows 8 or later as it is core2 DUO 3 GB ram.

Hey

After I got my new laptop, my mom had wanted to print a few things off of some websites. After the installation of my Printer (HP Officejet V40) onto my new laptop (HP Pavilion g7-2010nr Notebook PC), I tried printing those things. But there were always problems with each of the printing attempts.

1. There was always an error in the Printing Queue that didn't let me print anything.
2. When I printed off of Google Chrome, one or more of the pages would be skipped unless it was the last line or so at the bottom.
3. The sites don't print out correctly sometimes or the printer stops suddenly after 1-2 pages
4. At the end sometimes it just randomly ejects a blank sheet.

I've tried using the troubleshooter and it says it is fixed, but the errors keep happening. I don't know if I should get a new printer or not..because school is in 2 weeks for me and I need a printer.

Hi all,

I am having difficulty using my online hotmail/live/outlook.com account.

I can log on to my account and access my inbox, however when I try to open an e-mail, the browser takes me back to the mail home page (not inbox). Sometimes the mail will open briefly, but then reverts to the home page and use of the back button just repeats the process. On the very seldom occasion that the page will actually hold on the open e-mail, when I press reply I get taken back to the home screen again...
I have two linked accounts, one upgraded to Outlook and the other retaining hotmail status. I have the same problem with both accounts and had this problem before changing to outlook on the first account. In fact I have always had this problem since upgrading my laptop (VAIO SA Series).

I am running IE 8 on windows 7 Pro, 64 Bit. I have not experienced this problem on any other machine (and I use more variety than most). Incidentally, this problem does not occur on my machine when using Chrome browser.

The closest to a similar problem I found online suggested changing settings to use HTTPS, as my setting were already set to use this, I tried disabling it. I actually thought I'd solved the issue when I did a test, however the problem still exists today.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks,

SJ

About 2 hours ago, my mouse started functioning as if ClickLock had been activated. I went to CP to resolve the problem, but ClickLock wasn't on. After about 20 minutes of playing around, I gave up and tried System Restore; it wasn't able to be completed. After I had recieved this message of System Restore's failure, the letter and number keys on my keyboard had been disabled, (when I tried to press them, they started beeping) every other key was fine. So, I restarted my PC again and this solved the keyboard problem, however my mouse is still permenantly on ClickLock.
edit: Not only is the mouse on ClickLock it is also very slow and occasionally unresponsive to clicking. e.g I click the desktop and the mouse starts making a drag selection, so I spend the next 30 seconds clicking at the right time to make it stop

Since System Restore isn't working and my mouse has suddenly become disfunctional, I've decided to come here in case I have a virus problem.

Thanks,
Mike

Answer:Laptop Touch Pad Not Functioning Correctly (Driver Issue?)

Have you checked that the driver has in fact installed by checking the date 2/22/2010

and this only happens on the Windows 7 side?

Have you tried installing it in SafeMode

Basically, i've had the laptop for around 4 months and for a while, the touch sensitive multimedia buttons at the top of the keyboard lost their illumination, and whenever i tried to press the one that was supposed to illuminate them, it just muted my volume :S

Now, they are again illuminated, (did it itself when i rebooted once) but the illumination key still mutes and the ('Fn'+F number) function keys no longer seem to work; e.g. the - de-activate mousepad command on FN+F9 and the light command on FN+F2.

anyone got any solutions?
if i have to re-install drivers can someone tell me what one i should be looking for, because there doesn't seem to be a "multimedia keys" one.

I?m not quite sure but I would recommend reinstalling the Toshiba Value Added Package.
You have to remove firstly the old VAP and after new reboot install the Value Added Package downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page.

Hello, Need a little bit of assistance with my Lenovo laptop! The number keys (and that whole row of keys), as well as some other keys such as the arrow keys, don't appear to be functioning properly. Instead of typing numbers, they either perform an action such as close the window I'm on, or will type random letters/numbers/symbols. eg the number key "6" types out "hy6j7n". All the keys in that row, uncluding the backspace key do not function properly. What's interesting is that the same buttons fail to work in the BIOS too. I tried downloading the latest BIOS update, but when running the update, it seems to think my AC Adapter is not connected, when it's actually running from it! A USB keyboard appears to work but can't figure out what else I can try.The computer was previously Czech (Windows 7's system language) but have changed everything to UK including adding the English language and changing region/keyboard/etc.I can't figure this out and its driving me crazy! Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Laptop: Yoga 13When Purchased: Christmas, 2012 Problem: At random points of time, seemingly for no reason, the keyboard stops functioning. The only way I can type is to use the touch-screen keyboard. But the actual keyboard does not work. I have managed to fix it at times by bending the laptop into different positions/mashing down random buttons. But I don't want to be doing this EVERY time the keyboarrd stops working. So what gives? How do I fix it?

Answer:Keyboard Randomly Stop Functioning

Hi Gammon15,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the Keyboard is not working as expected in Yoga13, below are the steps to get into BIOS menu and reset it to defaults and check the issue:

Shut down the computer completely.
Then press the Novo button and then select BIOS Setup (Click here for BIOS simulation).

NOTE: Click here to download the user guide for Yoga 13 Laptop and refer page no.12 to locate the NOVO button.

If the issue persists even after performing BIOS reset, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance as the issue is hardware related. Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number.

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Hello The morning I had 2 dismantle the laptop to fix something and before the touchpad and keyboard worked fine.. after putting the laptop back together 1st the keyboard didn't work so removed it and reput the ribbon and then it worked but the alt, ctrl, delete and some keys didn't.. also the touchpad isn't working at all Any ideas? Thanks

Answer:G580 Touchpad not working and keyboard not functioning properly

I would suggest downloading the service manual for your computer and look thru section regarding removal of keyboard to make sure you have it correct.  Then try re-connecting ribbon cable per manual instructions making sure to seat the ribbon cable correctly into the socket on the system board.  On some notebooks there is a secondary cable for the touchpad that also needs to be connected correctly.

Good luck.

Hi everybody,
Trying to fix an issue with a Cooper Case Executive case that features a Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad. The keyboard pairs and connects just fine after connecting to the Eve T1 tablet running Windows 10, but after entering the digits and hitting enter, the keyboard doesn't function.
I've contacted the manufacturer of the tablet, received the drivers, reinstalled them, no luck. The manufacturer says it works for them and they found my issue to be "strange". I've also contacted the manufacturer of the case, they sent the manual, and I am doing it correctly.
The keyboard works just fine with my Lumia 1520, but not with the Eve T1 or the Surface Pro 2.
Any help would be much appreciated as I'm growing somewhat frustrated with dealing with this Bluetooth issue on Windows 10.
Thanks for reading, would love to buy someone a few beers if they could help.

I have acquired a slightly used D620 however the touch-pad and track stick do not seem to be working at all. Neither of the buttons on the touch pad work either. My external USB mouse is functioning perfectly. I have reinstalled drivers from Dell Support, tried drivers from other models, and reinstalled Windows when I noticed the hardware manager wasn't even detecting the touch-pad at all. I also tried to change around the touch-pad options in the BIOS settings but nothing has led to success. My next step is to remove and reconnect the touch-pad and track stick/ keyboard. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks a bunch, in advance, for your help.

Answer:Dell D620 touchpad/track stick not functioning and not recognized

Solved

I opened up the laptop lifted the keyboard and noticed the poorly designed touchpad cable attachment system. It is so closely stuck to the palm rest/ keyboard boarder that it disconnects from the motherboard with the slightest lift of the palm rest. My guess that an inexperienced Geek Squad member probably cleaned out the unit and didn't bother to check for the attachment of the wire to the motherboard. Anyway, my problem is solved.

The buttons have stopped responding at all. I've tried updating the driver and nothing. As far as I know, I wasn't doing anything when it happened. It was open next to me and working fine, and then I turned to use it and found it like this. My USB mouse, which I plugged in after the issue began, works fine.

I have an Asus N55S laptop running Windows 7. Not sure what else might be needed. Thank you so much for any help you can offer!

Ppl,I own a T420i (with Win 7 & Office 2010 pre-loaded) which was purchased a couple of months back. Everything was working perfectly till the Touchpad and the trackpoint stopped responding. I suspected this to be caused by a recent windows update. This analogy was partly correct due to the following:On restoring the system to a point prior to the windows update, the Touchpad and trackpoint started functioning correctly. Thereafter, I installed the windows update again and still the Touchpad and trackpoint worked perfectly. Last night, I put the laptop on sleep mode and to my surprise, since today morning, the Touchpad and trackpoint have stopped working again! Even after repeated restarts of the system, the devices aren't operational. The interesting fact here is that an external mouse connected via the USB port was working prior to the windows update and still continues to work.Would be grateful if you could suggest a way out.Thanks.

I have thinkpad w530 w windows 8.1 I am trying to capture video footage into my computer using a firewire card that of course plugs into the MEDIA CARD READER SLOT. I can't get the computer to recognize my camcorder- the camcorder connection does not show up in DEVICE MANAGER I am using HDVSPLIT to capture the video and also in hdvsplit there is a message, "camera not recognized" or something like that.  I am not sure if the media card reader is bad, or maybe the firewire card is bad or maybe it is the hdv split that is the problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Answer:How do I tell if my Media Card Reader/Express card slot is functioning correctly?

Hello,

Could it be the ExpressCard slot that the FireWire card plugs into?  I've never seen a FireWire card that plugs into the media card slot used for SD Cards.

FireWire cards can be a little tricky to get working sometimes, especially when interfacing with a camcorder.

Have you checked with the manufacturer to see if Windows 8.1 drivers are available for it?  Even if they are not, it may be possible to use Windows 7 or even Windows Vista drivers.

Once you have verified that the FireWire card is recognized, plug the camcorder in again, amd see if it gets recognized.  If it does not, check with its manufacturer for Windows 8.1 drivers, just like you did with the FireWire card.

At that point, the hardware should all be working with Windows 8.1.

Regards,

I just received my Acer laptop from yesterday, and I'm having issues with the touchpad. It either freezes up a few minutes into using the laptop, goes extremely slow, only goes from left to right, or vibrates rapidly on the screen. I don't even have to be completely touching the pad for this to happen -- it tracks my finger if it hovers close enough (but with the same results). I'm not sure if it's a senstivity issue?? Or how I could fix it if it were.If I turn off the laptop or put it in Sleep and then restart it, the problem goes away ... but starts again a few minutes later. Support had me reinstall the touchpad driver, but nothing changed.I don't want to return the laptop, because other than this problem it is exactly what I want. Is there a way that it can be fixed? (I have Windows 7, if that is important)

WroteNothing,

Sorry to hear you are having problems with the unit so son, let's see if we can get it working right for you. There are a couple things we can try to see if they resolve the issue:

Try a system restore to see if maybe it was Windows updates that created the issue, doubtful, but it happens from time to time.
Attempt to reinstall the drivers from our support site.
Attempt a reload to factory defaults.

Yesterday the left and right buttons on my touchpad started to mess up. Clicking the left button sometimes wouldn't do anything and sometimes it would bring up the right-click menu. I would have to right-click something first before I could do anything to it with the left click nearly all the time. The right button sometimes won't bring up the menu and sometimes it will but only for a second. There are also random times where the menu will pop up when I just barely touch the right button.

I've already checked the mouse options and they're all set correctly and also reinstalled the correct driver from Vaio's website and nothing works.

The only thing that's happened when the buttons started messing up was that my computer was badgering me about restarting to complete a few updates. I also watched a movie too though that was about a day or two before, so it might either be something from the update that my computer can't handle anymore or a virus, least that's what I think but I don't know anything so I'm asking you guys.

my mouse moves, reluctantly, everywhere execpt where I want it to I can coax it accros the screen but its like it knows where I want to go and will not go to that spot... so frustrating. I have downloaded updates for the touchpad (DELL touchpad) but it didn't make a difference. I have tried adjusting the sensitivity, etc but also makes no difference. I'm thinking something was possibly spilled or is down inside the touchpad. Is there a way to check this or get in there to clean out dust or whatever may be in there?

Answer:my touchpad just quit responding correctly

I do not know personally about cleaning it out (though it is probably possible), but is it under warranty (or extended warranty)? If it is, take it to where you purchased it and see if they have the ability to repair the touch pad for you.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. If all else fails, read instructions.

I have just had a problem where my dog jumped on my knee and operated something on the keyboard of my Sattelite M40.

Now whenever I try to tap the touch pad twice, I get the properties for the icon that I am hovering over. When I try to use the keyboard in Word, I get the menus opening instead of typing appearing in the document.

I can clear it with a restart but I would like to know what has happened.

Fiona

Answer:Satellite M40: Touchpad not working correctly

Hi

It seems that the dog has changed the options on the touchpad ;)
You should check the touchpad device settings in the mouse properties.
This you can find in the control panel.
Select the ?mouse? and then go to the ?device settings? tab. Then go to the synaptics touchpad settings.
There you should find some options which you should check.

Hi, whilst on my laptop today for no apparent reason my touchpad decided to stop working properly, it will still move the mouse around the screen, however does nothing when I double tap anything. The left click button has also ceased to work at all, click and nothing the right hand button is working fine.

I have reinstalled the drivers and I am currently using a mouse via the USB port which is working fine. I have also checked the options to make sure that the left click hasn't been assigned to another button or something odd like that. I'm afraid I really am at a bit of a loss as to what could be wrong.

If anyone could please point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks guys

Hello! I recently purchased an Aspire V3-572G. My touchpad works fine, supporting multi touch and scrolling, but I noticed in Control Panel--> Mouse there is no Synaptics tab. Under Mice and pointing devices in device manager there is only HID-compliant mouse. I downloaded the Synaptics driver through the acer website, ran setup , and it said it was successful. Yet there is still no Synaptics tab , Synaptics icon to configure settings, nor any new Synaptics touchpad under device manager, even after a restart. I've tried refreshing my notebook, but it didn't work to solve it.The touchpad works fully, yet I find it disconcerting that I can not configure any of the settings or even get confirmation that the Synaptics driver was actually installed. If anyone has encountered this problem please let me know, or if they have any clues to solve it.I should write that I have also tried this process with ELANTECH drivers to cover my bases if I was wrong about the manufacturer, but that also did nothing.

Here's the thing. With the latest system update, there came a problem with t460s (windows 10).After a reboot, touchpad's two finger scroll works choppy and misses inputs. It scrolls up and every second time accepts to scroll down. The workaround is funny: all you need to do is to go to: win + mouse properties (advanced mouse options). After the window is opened, the problem is gone. You don't need to change anything from there. This is reproducible 100%. Any thoughts?

First at all, sorry for my bad English.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C50-A-153, the problem is his Touch pad, doesn't work correctly, the mouse doesn't move and when i move the finger on the pad, it seems like if i were rolling the bar "or the mouse wheel".

Sometimes, the "mouse" works correctly for a 20seconds, and after, again the same. External mouse works fine.

There's not the problem of "Fn" functions. I tried to shutdown, put off the battery and press the power button for 50seconds. I tried too to uninstall the Drivers from the Touchpad, and i think i have tried to change all the properties on the "Control Panel - Mouse".

Anybody can help me with that?

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite Pro C50-A-153 - Touchpad doesn't work correctly

On most Toshiba notebooks is installed Synaptics touchpad driver. With this driver there are available additional touchpad settings. try please to change these settings and disable all functions that you don?t need.

How to do this you can read on https://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD3101Z30000R01.htm

Check it out.

Hi,
I have just started to get an issue with my Synaptics Touchpad just recently.

What happens is, when wiindows starts up my touchpad responds fine for about 5 seconds then freezes. I have tried to use a mouse and it works fine so it must be the touchpad itself.

After the pointer freezes, when I make vertical movements on the touchpad it scrolls up and down on the current page that I am on, be it the desktop or any open programs, but the pointer doesn't move.

Things I've tried to do:
-Uninstall driver then restarted laptop (worked fine like this, but couldn't use the multi-touch functions, eg. scrolling, zooming in and out etc)
- Re-Installed the driver (The above mentioned problem started again)
- Used an external mouse (works completely fine)

My laptop model is a Toshiba Satellite P50T (Part number: PSPNVA-01R00N)

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Thanks,
Rodi Marcus

Answer:Satellite P50T - TouchPad is not responding correctly

It seems that the touchpad works fine after the touchpad driver (software) has been removed.

First question: does the touchpad work fine after the notebook has been recovered to default settings (factory settings).
Please check this!

Furthermore this model seems to be equipped with two different touchpad modules: Synaptics or Elan.
I found your notebook model on the Toshiba Australian website. On the Toshiba Australian driver page I found only the Synaptics driver.

Therefore I would recommend you to visit the Toshiba EU driver page and to test the touchpad driver from ELan and then Synaptics.

Here the link to Toshiba EU driver website:

Choose: Satellite P50T-B PSPNVE

Feedback would be appreciated

First issue I found was the gesture functions were not working at some point. I tried opening "mouse" in the control panel, and the touchpad did not show up as a listed device. Currently the touchpad buttons work, and you can move the mouse. No gesture or advanced functions work. I tried downloading the drivers for synaptic and reinstalling. After its reinstalled and I restart the computer, nothing changes. The touchpad is still missing from mouse properties.

Hello everyone,

Since this thread got closed (http://community.acer.com/t5/S-and-R-Series/Synaptic-Touchpad-Drivers-not-Installing-correctly/td-p/... with over 7000 views, 33 replies and no solution provided, I'm making a new thread in an effort to find a solution for my and many other peoples problem of not being able to access synaptics touchpad settings.

I have an acer vn7 571G 595Z with windows 8.1 (64 bit). The issue is that I can't access the synaptics touchpad settings to configure stuff. When I open mouse properties, there is no tab with synaptics settings. I have installed synaptics touchpad driver (18.1.22.2_W81x64, from synaptics official site) and it says the installation goes succesfull, but there is still no tab with synaptics touchpad settings showing.

I have also checked if my touchpad is from a different manufacture, but that's not the case. I dont have any ETD ware or ELAN software installed. Also in device manager, under mice and other pointing devices it only shows a HID-compliant mouse. Under Human Interface devices there is Synaptics HID Device (which seems to be the touchpad?).

In the last thread some people pointed out that it might have something to do with the 'precision touchpad' which might be blocking access to synaptics settings and only allowing users to acces the windows touchpad settings.

Recently recovered from a hard drive crash.  I've got the new OS working but didn't have the Dell Touchpad driver installed.
I downloaded the driver Dell.com suggests for the computer.  The first time I ran it from Control Panel it worked fine.  I dislike using the touchpad and disabled it.
Every subsequent time I click "Dell Touchpad" from Control Panel, the computer pauses for a few seconds and gives me this message:
"Dell Touchpad has stopped working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I have reinstalled the driver several times.  I can enable/disable the touchpad using Fn + F3 and the notification icon is present in the system tray but whenever I run from Control Panel the program stops working correctly.
Any ideas what this is about?

Hello Medic, welcome to SF!

You've lots of dmps... I haven't the time yet to check them all but a recent one struck me as I don't see it often. Quote copied below for future reference.

Lets try:

1. Does it crash if you run in Safe Mode. It's a bummer to do, I know, but helps as in a quick check if it is HW and/or basic W7 drivers.

2. If no problem in Safe Mode: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Post back with results... next step is a lot of testing...of hw.

Answer:Fn+F5 function and touchpad doesn't work correctly on Satellite A series

Hi

What notebook do you have?

I presume your notebook was delivered with XP and now you want to use it with Vista OS.
Please note that you need to install the Toshiba Vista Value Added Package to use all the notebook features.
Very important is the Components Common Driver and the TOSHIBA Flash Cards.
The Flashcards provides the Hotkey function and the launcher function that starts the Hotkey function.
Please reinstall it!

The additional touchpad functionality must be configured firstly!
This can be done in control panel -> mouse

There you should look for the touchpad settings and could configure the touchpad scroll areas again.

Bye

My computer randomly started having these issues.

1) The computer will sometimes wake up for no reason. I put it to sleep when I go to bed and when I leave for work.I have it set so I can wake on lan but I haven't changed any of those settings. How can I see what is waking this (magic packet, update software, etc)?

2) Sleep doesn't always work properly. I have it set for S3 and typically the computer turns off (fans and everything) and it's only awakened by the power button or a magic packet. It just started having an issue where putting it to sleep would leave the fans on and then it would be awoken by my keyboard/mouse.

Answer:Windows 7 - Computer not sleeping correctly + waking up randomly

I'd be very grateful if someone could suggest a solution to the problem I have with the touchpad on my laptop, the one finger scrolling is not working, I have checked as far as I can using the info provided, as far as I know the driver is up to date, I've looked for 'Dell touchpad' or 'Device settings tab' in control panel and they aren't there, just mouse ( ps/2) properties and these are shown as ok, any ideas please? many thanks,Steven. ps, guruaid tell me it's a hardware problem but I'm not so sure, it used to work fine before Windows 10 was loaded and messed up a whole lot of functions, I was then told it's not compatible with this laptop, so I had to put Windows 7 back on and the problem stemmed from around that time

Answer:n5010 laptop touchpad not working correctly - no 'one finger' scrolling function

Hi PUFFIN88,
Have you performed a clean install of Windows 7 or have just rolled back the OS from Win10 to Win7? Is the touchpad detected in device manager? Is there any damage on the system? Do the touchpad button register a click?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/28WKQHB- restart the system and check if it works fine.  Reinstall the touchpad drivers from the same site and check.
If the touchpad is not detected in device manager- then download the service manual from the support site link above - and reseat the palmrest cables and check if it works.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

The devices that die right away are the network adapter and any USB memory stick plugged in, they still have their lights and all running but aren't recognized in "This PC" and the network adapter isn't found in "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections".

My keyboard, wireless mouse that runs through the keyboard's USB ports and the external HDD remains functional UNTIL I pull the plug on them, after that plugging them back in does nothing.

I put randomly in quotations because it seems to fail more often when I download something at speeds over 3Mb/s, for an example downloading Hearthstone through the Battle.Net client will more often than not make the issue happen after a little bit. BUT it still happens randomly during NO network load what-so-ever.

Hi all. I have already posted this once here. The topic had quite a few views and not a single reply. I'm giving this another try, as the problem persists and is not getting any better.

The keyboard on my Aurora m9700 is having some strange issues. I cannot figure if it is software or hardware related, either. At random intervals, the keyboard will cease function. But when I go into standby, then come out of standby the problem seems to be magically fixed! In fact, the problem just happened right after I finished typing the last sentence. I checked event manager, nothing changed. I had to go into standby and come out of it...

So please, is there anyone on here that can help me out? I have reformatted the computer since this started happening and nothing has changed, so I do not know what could possibly be causing this!

Just going to keep bumping this until I get a reply, or bet banned. Every thread has some form of reply...maybe I smell or something?

I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5547 running Win 8.1. Every now and then the scroll feature (two fingers vertical swipe to scroll the screen), and the two finger tap for right click, will stop working. When this happens, all the other features on the touchpad seem to work. If I restart the laptop it starts working again. I've tried going into services.msc and setting 'Human Interface Devices" to automatic startup, but it doesn't help. There's something else pretty weird also... When I go into the system tray (lower right), right click the touchpad icon, and select Touchpad Properties, it takes me into the Dell Pointing Devices windows. Inside this window, there is a sliding switch to disable the touchpad. When I disable it, the touchpad still works. Weird. Does anybody have any ideas how I can get this sorted out. I'm also using a wireless USB mouse on the same laptop, not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Answer:Touchpad scroll dies randomly

Hi Jools

Personally I would look to see what touchpad driver version you are using and then either update it with an in-place update, or uninstall (my favourite option, then install new driver) the current driver and then re-install, as it may just be a slight corruption.

Latest driver HERE
Also a thought, when the touchpad stops with the scroll feature, had your laptop been left not used for a period of time, like hibernation?

I have a G780 with Windows 8 and ever since I got it, the mouse cursor will randomly stop moving for about 5-20 seconds. The keyboard still works during this time. I downloaded the latest Synaptics touchpad drivers and it still happens.

Hey guys.

I have never had this problem before so I don't know what to do.

While on my laptop my touchpad will randomly stop moving. I can still zoom in and out by pinching, I can right click and left click, but I cannot move the pointer . As soon as I plug in my mouse, the touchpad works again. I can unplug the mouse and it will still work for a few minutes then the problem will happen again.

I'm running windows 7 64bit,

I also have not installed anything recently.

Answer:Touchpad randomly stops working.

See if reinstalling the touchpad driver from the laptop's manufacturer's website helps.

For reference, my laptop is running the pre-installed Windows 8.1 OS.    I got the laptop about a month ago, and it's had this problem seemingly at least once every few days or once a week, and has been going on since I took it out of the box. The tap-to-click seems to end up sticking making it as if I am holding it down to highlight or click & drag until eventually the cursor freezes, and nothing except restarting my laptop will stop it from doing that.     I don't have the "Device Settings" tab in "Mouse Properties" in Control Panel (there is no "Touchpad properties") where I would think I could change something like palm sensitivity or edge scroll or something. "Mouse Properties" shows that it's using Microsoft drivers for it from 2006, and in Device Manager, the only device under "Mouse and Pointing Devices" is "HID-compliant Mouse", which seems to be the same thing from Control Panel.    I was told to install the Synaptics Touchpad Driver, but it did nothing. I found it under Human Interface Devices as "Synaptics HID Device", but it neither upgraded the driver, nor did it show anything for a touchpad in the "Mouse and Pointing Devices", though it did show that it went through the process in the events tab of the Synaptics, it just isn't using the new driver.    I went back to Acer Support and they said that I'd have to either do a Factory Reset (which is an issue because I don't know what happened to cause this in th...
