G555-0873 Black screen, No splash, no bios, not even caps lock lights

Question: G555-0873 Black screen, No splash, no bios, not even caps lock lights

Hey all. Got windows 7 on my g555, with truecrypt on the drive, if it matters. Last night, closed down the cover of my laptop before i fell asleep, like always, today it doesn't respond at all when I opened it back up. Forced it to shut down, and haven't seen anything but a black screen since. The power light comes on, the fan comes on, and that's about it. Can't get to the bios, can't do ANYTHING. Tried unplugging it for a while, pressing power 10 times, holding power down for a minute, ran the battery entirely dry THEN discharged the caps, ...I've read many solutions where its the built up static charge that's the problem, but not here. I've tried all versions of the solution I could find, all very similar, but none worked. I took out my RAM and put it back in, and same for the hard drive. No dice. The only lights I get at all are the power light, and the battery charging light next to it. Can't get the CAPS LOCK, num lock, any of that to do anything. Cannot boot by CD/DVD as I cannot change the bios, and can't get any response from any keys or key combos that I can think of (including the one-touch restore). Any advice? What can I try here to get this sucker going again?

Preferred Solution: G555-0873 Black screen, No splash, no bios, not even caps lock lights

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Model CQ61 319WM This is a friend's computer.  Yes, it's old.  But, it was working fine until it went into sleep mode last night.  Hasn't come up since. Searches took me to this HP support page.  Win+B and Power on does not show the BIOS restore screen.  It just shows the same black screen.  It mentions trying more than once.  I tried at least a half dozen times.  Removed the battery and unplugged the power for a few seconds prior to some of the tries. The BIOS download (sp48895.exe) does not provide the option to format a USB drive as bootable.  I searched around and created my own bootable thumb drive.  Then, copied the BIOS files onto it. Unfortunately, that method also uses the Win+B and power on to bring up the boot order screen.  All I get is black. There are a bunch of "black screen" threads on here.  I've read several of them.  But, I haven't found any others that appear to apply to this model. Suggestions appreciated. Drake Christensen

Answer:Black screen, Num+Caps Lock lights blinks slowly

Hi,Please try a hard reset and see if it works.1. Power off your laptop2. Remove the a/c adapter, battery and everything that is attached to your laptop.3. Hold the 'POWER 'button down on your laptop for about 10 seconds.4. Plug in the a/c power supply (without battery) and power on.Regards.

i was just typing and all of a sudden the screen blacks out and i figured maybe it went to sleep for some odd reason so i just hit the power button(which i set to act as the sleep button) to bring it back up. it came back up and then 2 minutes later did it again. now i cant even see anything when i start the computer. if you tilt the screen and shine a light at an angle onto the screen you can see very faintly. but i'm not sure what's wrong with it. i'd like some opinions before my hubby (the computer tech guy around here...) decides to take it apart and play with it.

Answer:g555 model 0873 display problems...keeps going black

If you have an external monitor, shut your laptop off & connect the external monitor, then reboot.   If you have an adequate display of data on the external monitor & nothing visible on your internal monitor, you have narrowed the problem down to existing on the internal monitor.    This solution may not work if you have set your BIOS to not recognize an external monitor on boot up &/or if you have adjusted your graphics adapter drivers to only display on the internal monitor.   You can modify your laptop's settings to automatically detect and display on an external monitor but I realize you may not be able to see your display long enough to adjust the settings.     Another thing which occasionally works to bring the display back is to shut the lid and then open it.  This usually triggers the screen lighting to turn off & then turn on again.   Some laptops have pressure switches in the vicinity of the keyboard so that when the lid is closed, it presses down on the switch and causes the screen to go black.   If the switch malfunctions, it can cause your screen to go dark like this.         The faint things you can still see on the screen might well be all the icons, etc. you usually see on your display, only the back lighting may have shut off.    Shine a super bright light on the screen, or take it outdoors in full sunlight, look at it at every possibl... Hi, I've got a Lenovo G555 - 2gb - AMD M320 cpu - HD4200 gfx - 500gb and was wondering if there were any savvy owners (unlike me) who figured out how to backup their BIOS before upgrading it.  I upgraded the BIOS, and crashes became unbearable, recovery attempts fail with blue screen or justs hangs after progress bar in the beginning.  I even tried installing fresh with new windows 7 disks which also failed, either blue screen during start.  The funny thing is hirens windows mini-xp works without a problem, and can run memory diagnostics all night (no problems reported, by the way)  I believe it may be because it doesn't load drivers  and/or  rely on advance hardware features that normal operating systems check for.  I must add even linux fails soon after/during checking of PCI  features since you can see linux boot process in text form. Sorry to throw out a lot of assumptions but if anyone does have a copy of the BIOS before the one listed on Lenovo website it would be worth trying.  (can I even flash in windows in a windows live CD?) Thanks for any technical advise,  (I did phone lenovo tech support who were friendly enough but said older BIOS versions are not available)  # UPDATE# Sent the computer back under warranty and they replaced the processor.# Everything has been working has normal since then.# I am now a happy bunny.

Well, I have no idea what caused this but the tablet buttons (even the on/off button) the lights for caps lock and scroll lock as well as the automatic screen orientation change when I flip it to be a tablet have stopped working. Also the screen does not turn off anymore when the lid is closed. Reinstalled pretty much all of the drivers, no effect.Any ideas? Is this thing already broken?

Answer:X41 tablet buttons + scroll lock and caps lock lights + screen orientation change stopped working!

well, SOMETHING is broken.. though it would seen unlikely it is hardware.. a question: did you load anything new just before this happened..?anything at all..scanner drivers or printer drivers or a new application..? OH!, welcome to the lenovo community..!

My friends dv7-1135nr is not posting. The num lock and caps lock led light will flash once every 2 seconds at the same time. According to HP this issue is a " not functional" cpu. I am ordering another cpu for 16.00 off ebay because this is cheaper opposed to ordering another board. Anyone else have this issue? And if so did you fix it ?

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock lights no longer function

Welcome to Windows TenForums, Vaindil.

It doesn’t seem to work on anyone’s system and there doesn’t seem to be a fix yet. You can read here into the beginning of the next page if you like.

For some time now, i have been experiencing that my Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking) all at the same time, I tried to google it but i can not find any solutions or explanations for it.

Does anyone know if it is bad? and what is causing this?

I am having a wired keyboard with nothing fancy just a standard issue Logitech keyboard.

Answer:Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking)

Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.

I have a Ideapad Y560P that shut down suddenly and when we tried to turn it back on, the Caps Lock and Num Lock (on F8 key) lights go on but the computer does not start. I saw a similar thread from 2010 but there was no resolution. I assume that the two lights on at the same time at attempted start indicate some kind of "fault" condition in the computer. I have not been able to get the bios to start so that I could run diagnostics. I pulled the battery and held down power for 30 seconds, pressed start twice, put the battery back in but still won't start. I pulled memory out, trying to get a POST "beep" error but that didn't occur. I put memory back in one dimm at a time. I pulled the Hard Drive out and put it in an external enclosure and was able to extract the information to another laptop so I'm pretty sure I didn't have a hardware Hard Drive failure. Other than the one reference in this forum I haven't seen any information about this kind of, what I assume is a, hardware failure. I assume that Lenovo has some kind of guide that tells them what the lights mean. The computer was about six months out of warrenty when it failed. I called Lenovo to attempt to extend the warranty but they won't once it is out of warranty. Looking for some idea of what failed, whether it is worth getting one of Lenovo's listed companies that repair laptops to look at it and fix the problem.

Hi everyone, My laptop G555 manufacter of 0873 just blacked out yesterday. I just turned on my laptop and was using it for about 15 min watching a video when it just blacked out. The computer then turned off and on several times like it was being putting on and off sleep mode. I felt the fan and it wasn't really hot since i was using for about 15 min prior. At some point, the laptop flashed red (the indicator for low battery) even though it was running from the cord (and not from the battery only)I left it alone overnight, maybe something did overheat. But now i push the power button, i hear it turn on but screen remained black/off. Sometimes, once it turns on, it stays on but no visual. Once, it was able to get to the screen where it asks to start windows normally or in safe mode.Other times, it turns on then off like sleep mode. I have no idea what is wrong..please help Thank you

Answer:G555 mft:0873 Help!

try this: remove the battery, unplug the ac-power, press power button for 30-40 seconds, replace the battery and check if it works.also, if you can, try to remove/replace/swap the ram sticks. again, if you have hdmi/vga cable, check if the issue persists with external monitor.

I can hear the hard drive spin but the fan only comes on sometimes. If i blow in the intake when the fans not running it starts to spin. The caps lock led is flashing constanly at a rate of 1 second, no pause, just 1 second intervals. Did i kill the fan or is the flashing telling something else. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. I am afraid this issue cannot be resolved remotely and it is a bit difficult to understand and know in details what exactly you removed/replaced. Since it started to occur after this change obvious this is the cause. Please, review these artciles :>> http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01732674>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674and follow the appropriate instruction for your specific situation.  If they don't help, you can consult with HP Service center or bring the computer to HP authorized service center where the technicians will probably be able to help you solve the problem. If you cannot find a troubleshooting solution, contact HP Customer support for further assistance or to have the computer serviced. I put my computer to sleep last night and when I went to turn it on this morning it started to power but nothing happened.  The screen is black and the lights for caps and number lock are blinking.  They blink continuously with 4-seconds in between.  I've tried a hard restart, as well as removing the RAM and wireless card (per other posts for similar problems).  Does anyone have any idea what I should do next?  I'm a graduate student and hate to admit it but I can't be without a computer for very long :/

my father left his computer turned off for a few days and now it refuses to start up. we currently have a black screen with the caps and num locks flashing once every 3 seconds. the wireless button has remained red (normally blue when system is operating) and the fan can be heard carrying on its normal duties. ive tried hard reseting and cleaning the ram chips to no success and applied a hairdryer to the fan to make sure the heat sink was functioning. google tells me it might be a BIOS issue or the GPU may have something wrong with it but i lack the technical knowledge to investigate this. any help would be appreciated

Got a HP Probook 450 G0 here, which is powering up with no screen display. No BIOS, no nothing. It isn't the backlight. You can hear fans spinning up, the Caps Lock key starts flashing, but nothing else happens. I've removed RTC/BIOS battery, nothing. Removed and swapped RAM, nothing. Plugged into TV with HDMI, nothing.  I'm starting to suspect it's something more complex - a motherboard problem, a BIOS problem, or a CPU problem. I seem to remember older HPs having Caps Lock blink codes for reporting issues, but I can't see any info about that for the ProBooks. Any ideas?

Hello. I am trying to fix an HP G62-367DX Notebook PC.
Operating sys: Win 7, 64bit, AMD Turion(tm) 530II Dual-Core Processor, 4GB, 2.50GHz. I had this laptop since December of 2010 and on June of 2013 is when I used my notebook PC and was initially of no use. I have been working on my laptop on and off since. I am not afraid to open the sucker up and get this thing up and running.

The problem started out with what most ppl call it, the "blue screen of death". Like most ppl, I did ignore the blue screen and did a restart which brought me to the normal Windows screen and then it would start back up just fine. I found this in Device Manager's (Hidden Files):
Non-Plug and Play Drivers
-! ehdrv
-! epfwwfp
-! Security Processor Loader Driver
I am not sure if it has anything to do with what it was the blue screen situation, but I tried searching on the net on what it all meant and to see if I was able to fix it, but before I was able to do something about it, the blue screen kept popping up and it was getting worse.

The problem progressed to where on Windows startup it would just stop there, blue screen would pop up and of course I had to restart it and do an F8 key press for Safe Mode. I had to work on Safe Mode for a good couple of weeks before I can figure out the problem/s. I believe I had went into the system and found out it had something to do with some kind of error... *sigh* I did write it down, but that was like a month ago and I am unable to locate my ... After normal use and simply closing my laptop, it will not reboot.  I have had this happen before and was able to reboot by restarting. Following various forum instructions, I've removed the battery and attempted recovery from discs several times.  I've connected the unit to my smart tv, but cannot see my computer screen on the tv monitor.   What's happening now: When I turn on the laptop, the caps/num lock LEDs blink once.  There's power, but the fan seems quieter than usual.  It has been a little loud and running a little warmer recently.  The light at the power cord is white, and the light on the touch pad is on/white.  The wifi light and sound light are both red. Any advice?

Hi, I have HP Pro X2 410 G1 and when pushing the ON/OFF Button,it vibrates as it would be,and instead of turning on the display and displaying the HP logo and so on,it keeps the display black with no led (like it is when the tablet is turned off) and starts blinking white light on CAPS LOCK button,it blinks 1 time, after 3-4 second once more time, after 3-4 second once more time and continues doing so until I turn the tablet off. I turn it off by holding the ON/OFF button for several seconds, and it turns off as usually does when everything is ok (a light is blinking 1 time on the lower middle of the screen ribs and the power goes off) .So I think it actually turns on,but the screen is not showing anything and the system realizes that something is wrong and gives me alert with that blinking on CAPS LOCK button ... I have removed the touchscreen and using the tablet with its HP Pavillion x2 dock station as a notebook. The screen is moving, because the touchscreen must have been fastened to it, but I have removed the touchscreen and only the screen is left.there are times that it turns on normally, but for about 70-80% situations it gives the problem above PLEASE HELP ME TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM

Hello everyone,I'm holding a Pavillion x360 convertible pc 13-u002ne.I was watching a movie yesterday as usual on my recently purchased laptop and woke up to the the fact that it's not wanting to start off anymore. The power button turns on but the Caps Lock emits a blinking in the same pattern 3 slow blinks then 5 fast ones, with a black screen.I checked the link communicated above for blink/beeps troubleshooting but it doesn't show anything regarding my pattern.I opened the laptop and removed the battery, the CMOS battery and the Ram, then put them all back again but nothing changed.During the startup process, I tried pressing on various buttons and combinaisons to reset my bios but nothing seemed to work since all throughout my screen is always black.Any support would be highly appreciated.

Hello everyone.  I'm attempting to help diagnose my sister-n-laws HP 15 laptop.  I've searched high and low for an answer but all I'm finding is people with different types of "3 beeps".  They either have 3 "short" beeps or 1 short with 2 long or something like that.  I can't find ANYTHING with 3 long beeps.  It does 3 long beeps twice and then nothing.  I can hear the hard drive spinning too. No HP or BIOS documentation ever mentions anything about 3 long beeps either.  Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this thing?

No HP or BIOS documentation ever mentions anything about 3 long beeps either.  Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this thing? I'm saying "3 beeps" but there's a total of 9.  However, these 9 are segmented into 3 definite sets.  It's 3 long beeps then a pause for 2-3 seconds then 3 long beeps, pause, 3 long beeps.  Total of 9 beeps.

I have an x61t that when it locks for screen saver password and you have to CTRL ALT Delete the relog back on. the CAPS lock on the onscreen keyboard indicates on but it's not. 1. Log into the tablet.2. The screensaver would lock the tablet.3. Press Ctrl Alt Delete to get to the logon screen.4. The on screen keyboard would show the Caps Lock key as on but it wasn't. If they pressed the Caps Lock key it would then be on.5. The users don't press the Caps Lock key now, even though it is being displayed as on, and they can logon OK. I cannot recreate this problem on another X61tablet and this behaviour happens even when the notebook is in a docking station with an external keyboard.  anybody seen this error before?

My Compaq CQ62-209WM was working great until a couple of weks ago.  When I turned it on the screen stayed black, the caps lock light blinks once every 5 seconds, and the wifi light stays orange.  Read on this forum of others with similar problems.I tried a hard reset and it worked the first time, long enough for me to back up the important stuff on my hard drive, but did not work the second time (or any time I have tried it since then). One blink indicates CPU failure so I ordered a new CPU and thermal material, dismanteled the unit and replaced the CPU and thermal material this evening. Still have black screen and blinking lights - still one blink every 5 seconds. Tried hard reset, no change.Any suggestions? Not able to replace computer at this time - willing to try almost anything. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Compaq CQ62-209WM, black screen and caps lock blinking

Hi @micwtx ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ62-209WM Notebook and issues with the flashing lights and not starting correctly. Here is a link to computer does not start. It has the LED blinking codes and suggests that it could be your System Board. Have you tried to reseat the memory and HDD? (it is in the document) Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.Hope this helps you. Thanks.

Hi there,

My partner Tracys HP DV6 laptop is refusing to boot. The machine appears to power up as normal, the power, volume and wifi lights above the keyboard light up as does the 'on' light at the front left corner and the fan can be heard running but the screen remains blank with no flickers of anything and no sign of even a cursor. The caps lock/num lock* lights repeatedly give two blinks in time with each other.

* I say num lock light. I think this is what it's normally referred to although num lock is not the nearest button. It's at the top right hand corner of the screen next to the 'End/page up' buttons.
After a bit of googling I have tried doing the hard reset (switch off, remove battery and power cable, leave for 30s then hold down power button for 1 min before rebooting). I also tried connecting an external monitor via the vga socket and to a TV set via the HDMI output. None of these approaches have yielded any results. My googling has also revealed the two blinks from caps lock/num lock are the code for a BIOS corruption fault.

I found instructions for restoring the BIOS here...

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833

I was going to follow the instructions there but wanted to check here first in case there was a more appropriate course of action I should take first.
Another thing is that there seems to be a lot of heat being blown out by the fan considering the machine appears not to be booting.

Hi, First, with reference to the Service Manual on the link below - remove and re-seat your memory module(s). If the above makes no difference try the following. Again, with reference to the Manual on the link below, remove one of your memory modules and then see if the notebook will boot.  If it doesn't, try the same module, but in the other slot.  If is still doesn't boot, try the other memory module in both slots, to see if any combination will allow the notebook to start normally. The procedure for removing these modules is detailed starting on Page 63 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Regards, DP-K

The company has confirmed another bug in Windows 10

Since it's still in preview stage, Windows 10 comes with plenty of bugs, some of which are really awkward and make people wonder how come that Microsoft didn't fix them before pushing the new OS to users.

The best example comes from the keyboard of Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9879 users, as the lights for the Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock keys no longer work after deploying the latest release of the OS.

In a short tweet posted this morning, Gabriel Aul, who keeps us posted on Windows 10 news, says that Microsoft is working to repair this problem and a fix will be included in the next update.

If anyone knows what I can do to reboot my laptop I realy would appreciate the help.

Answer:Latitude XT2 flashes blue lights at F4 and F5 and also the Caps lock tab

Hi stewyscrewy,
Welcome to the Community,
If the system is not able to complete POST then keyboard status LEDs (Num Lock,Caps Lock,Scroll Lock) can be used as diagnostic indicator.
If the power LED stays lit when you turn on the system check and confirm the keyboard status LEDs.Do you notice any pattern.Example if the Num lock and Scroll lock is off but the Caps lock keeps flashing it indicates Memory(RAM) compatibility issue.
To resolve the memory compatibility issue you may try removing and reseating the memory module. If two modules are installed remove one and test. Try the other module in the same slot and test. Test the other slot with both modules.
Let me know your finding.
Thank You

Hello,

I am having an unusual problem with Desktop PC. Sometimes when I boot the computer it will show the Gigabyte splash and then go black the moment it switches to what would have been the "starting windows" screen. I am positive that it is not the monitor because I never hear the windows login sounds or music. When this happens the only way I am able to fix it temporarily is by re-slotting the memory sticks in the motherboard. I did this on a suggestion that it may be a bad stick, but based on my experience of switching them out and using them separately this doesn't appear to be the case.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? Thank you for looking,

Hey guys!

So looked up this on google, but I haven't really found a solution that fits my problem, so I am asking you guys to please help me! When I start up my pc, I get the usual Gigabytes bios splash screen, but it stays there for like a minute or 2 before going to a completely black screen, or a black screen with a flashing underscore in the top left. At bios splash my keyboard is on and working (num lock button responds), but will not let me into bios when I press the corresponding keys. When the screen goes black, my keyboard is no longer responsive.

Yesterday, I upgraded some of the components of my computer and got a new case. The only things that have been changed that were connected to the motherboard are my graphics card and the power unit. Previously I had a AMD Radeon HD 5450 Sapphire, and upgraded to a Gigabyte Windforce Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti. The power unit previously was a built in one (in my old case) at 500watts, upgraded is a Corsair 430watt 80+ bronze.

The first time starting it up worked fine, after I installed the drivers it also worked fine. But after I installed OC Guru II from the disc, I have had this problem.

I have tried resetting CMOS by removing the battery for a minute and putting it back. I've also disconnected all hard drives, but no luck. I have removed my 2x 4GB RAM sticks alternatively (one in one out) but nothing - however, my computer keeps restarting after 10 seconds with both removed. Is this normal? (Sorry I not that mu... Two things you could try, one of those is reboot the computer.
Try to log into the bios setup utiility, if you do look at your cpu oc settings.
If they seem abit too high, you need reset them at default like before.
Have the bios restore your settings to original manufacturer ones.
If successfull, we're going to go into safe mode for windows.
5 Ways to Boot into Safe Mode in Windows 8 & Windows 8.1
For windows 7 hit the F8 key before windows boots up completely.
Login as default admin, and remove that software you put in.
If you installed the drivers from the cd, take those off as well.

My other issue is the psu if you had 500watts before but using 430watts now.

I have a Gateway Laptop MT6728 running Windows XP. I got the blue screen one day and then after that attempted to reboot. What happens is after I get the Gateway Bios/Boot Menu Splash screen the screen goes black. I can't boot from the drive it just spins and then shuts down. I can press F2 and get into the Setup Utility and I have changed the boot settings to CD but still disk just spins in drive for a few seconds then stops.

I have reseated Ram, Taken out one stick of Ram and attemped to boot with only 1 stick.
I have reseated the CMOS.
I have reseated the Hard Drive.
In the Startup it states: No TPM or TPM has problem. ( Don't know if that is an issue.)
I have Bios Version 93.09

I have read other posts of users with the same problem, but have not found a fix, if there is one. Thanks.

After powering back on, the screen was lifeless -black like if the computer was off (no logo or anything -completely dead). Nothing was visible on the screen -There was no response from the hdd light either.I tried to press F1 to access Bios -I tried to press the blue Thinkvantage butten -no response. Then I tried to turn it off and on with the startup disk for Vista Business  -the CD/DVD drive sounded like it was trying to access the disc but after a while it gave up (the screen was lifeless all this time too)Itried leaving the computer off for about half an hour, but there is no change. I don't understand this -even if the hdd was unreadable I should at least be able to access Bios. Seems like the computer is totally dead. The only icons with light is the icon for the battery and the icon for power( I think that's what it is).I've already done this happened Zado all checks, trying to boot without ram, does not beep, no access to the bios.comment that when this happened I was using the ati card.Any suggestions?

Answer:t400 does not access the bios only power led lights, black screen.

Hi,

how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Good afternoon,

I just did a clean install of 7 to fix errors with my laptop, and it fixed one, but not the other main issues,
My caps lock, and number lock button on the keyboard don't have a light on it and the pop up that is supposed to pop up doesn't show up on screen.
I figured by doing a clean install it would all magically appear again... I was wrong, I have tweaked everything I could think of looking/trying to change setting from the keyboard in control panel, (including messing around with ease of use) and Gateways so called "support" area was of no help, as well as googling the issue has led me down a path of useless tips, I have also looked on this forum for help.

Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated!!

If you are using Windows 8, then it is important to note that the on-screen indicators for Num Lock and Caps Lock are not available in Windows 8. To know more about this, you can refer to the link below:http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30035/~/no-num-lock-and-caps-lock-indicator If you are using Windows 7, you can check if following the steps below helps:1. Click on "Start".2. Type keyboard in the "Search" field.3. Double-click "Keyboard options".4. Go to "Key settings" tab and then, go to "Key settings" list.5. Locate and double-click "Caps Lock" and select the option "Display Caps Lock status on screen". Click "Finish".6. Follow Step 5 for Nums Lock as well. Hope this will resolve your issue.

Lenovo Y720 So, when I hit caps ock or num lock an on screen display tells me whether capslock or num ock has been pushed. While I appreciate it is helpful for some, in my case it become a hinderance. You need to remove "num lock" for single key print screen request, and if I have a short time frame, I am stuck without being able to screenshot until the num lock indicator goes away.  How do I turn off the on screen display.  Now, before you send me to the previously asked questions of similar nature, I have tried. There is no "display settings" in Control Panel. There is no "advanced display settings" on the settings panel. And there is no way to control it through NVIDIA or Intel graphics settings (that I can see).  Thanks kindly.

Atlast when I remove the cmos battery set it again after 2 or 1 minute its starts fine. Then againg I turn off the computer and its power next day again the same problem. I was solving this problem by removing the cmos battery and set it again for 4 or 5 days. But today this trick is not working at all. I have tried so many method like (Windows key + B), (Holding down the power button for 1 minute), (UEFI Flash) etc to solve the bios failure problem, nothings worked at all. What is the problem?  Is it really a bios failure? How can solve this? Is it a dangerous problem? Is there any chance that my laptop will be dead?

To make a long story short, I've been asked to help fix a friends mom's U410 laptop which wasnt activiting Windows 8.1 properly (Was Windows 8 OOB). After struggling with the activation for a few hours, I backed up the data and decided to just run the Lenovo one key recovery. During the recovery process, the installation had failed. When I attemped to reboot, no Lenovo splash screen was loading - just a black screen (although i can hear the cooling fan start, and hear the harddrive spin up. I tried to access the boot menu thru the novo button, and nothing would load; still a black screen. After researching for a few more hours, I had found multiple threads about bios updates required to be able to access bios with windows 8, and other threads about gpus on these units booting to a second screen (which i did test, and the second monitor does indicate a signal). None of the solutions on those threads have given positive results.   Basically, I've run out of options and am looking for some suggestions. The only thing that shows up on the display at anytime is the small blue novo menu when the button is pressed (normal start up, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery - all of which just leave a black screen). Thanks.

Hi,
I've tried the suggestions on what to do if the computer won't boot, such as chkdsk and fixmbr. Did the hardware scan, all is well.

chkdsk said it fixed some stuff... not very specific on what it was.
fixmbr said the boot record was either bad or non-standard, so I went ahead and re-wrote it, but with the same result.

What are my other options for system recovery?

Thanks.

I see lots of threads telling me how to disable the on screen CAPS LOCK ON message, but how and where do I ENABLE it? My Latitude has an led in the keyboard key, but there's always this hand of mine in the way.

Answer:on screen caps lock on

Welcome to Seven Forums markrheuer. A couple of possibilities, starting with easiest.

Start> In search box type keyboard> Under Control Panel, click on Keyboard> IF your Keyboard properties has a Key settings tab> Key Settings List> Double click on Caps Lock> Display Caps Lock status on screen> Click the check mark box> Finish

If no key settings tab, you can make your screen flash when you have Caps lock on

Start> In search box type ease of access> Enter> Make the keyboard easier to use> Check the box next to Turn on toggle keys> Apply> OK> Back to Ease of access main page> Use text or visual alternatives for sounds> Turn on visual notifications for sounds (Sound Sentry)> Choose visual warning> Apply> OK

I see where some Dell users have had success changing a registry key. Suggest always backing up your registry 1st

Registry - Backup and Restore

Start> In search box type regedit> Enter> Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dell Computer Corporation\QuickSet\QuickSetControl and set it's value to 1

Some freeware programs to do the same job

Free Keyboard LEDs software shows state of Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll locks.

Hello all- I updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help. EDIT: Just fixed my own problem. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.

Answer:T440s: No on screen display of caps lock, volume, screen brightness, etc.

Hi Brightnsalty,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you were facing issue with On Screen Display earlier on ThinkPad T440s.

And we glad to hear that the issue has been resolved after installing Hot key feature application.

I also suggest you to update Lenovo power management application, if the OS is Windows 7, please update Lenovo Power Manager application.

Cheers!

In one of my pc's whenever i hit the cap or num locks keys it displays it doing so on my monitor.

Now normally i wouldn't care much for this but not all my keyboards for my computers have those green lights that light up when i enable the caps or num lock keys.

I am guessing its something that came installed with my computer when i bought it from newegg, any idea of a similar software that i can install in my other computers.

I like it displaying on my monitor when i turn on my caps or num locks keys

Answer:On screen caps lock display?

It would help folks here to know more about the computer in question. Brand and model if it is a commercial PC (Dell, HP, etc.) and operating system, or if a home built computer the motherboard make and model, and the operating system used.

If running Windows 7, type Keyboard into the Run box, and select Keyboard from the list that appears. See if there is a Key settings option. If so, select it, and find the Key Settings List. I can't recall where exactly, but somewhere in the list you will find "Display Caps Lock status on screen" . . . make sure it is unchecked. Not sure if this will fix your issue/s or not.

What kind of keyboard are you using? The display issue might be a function of your keyboard, and you might have to adjust the behavior in any software that came with it.

Is there a way to display the caps lock status on screen?

I bought a new laptop, and would like to have an indicator that constantly shows whether caps lock is on or off, that would display on the screen or task bar.  Currently, there is a tiny light on the caps lock button, but it's on the right hand side of the button, so it's not easily viewed unless I move my hand out of the way, and it also turns off when the light of the backlit keyboard goes out.  Thanks.

Hello Experts
On my dell Latitude E7440, the keyboard's CAPS LOCK key doesn't turn on the indicator light when the key is pressed.

Therefore I want to know, as a workaround, where is the setting to display the CAPS LOCK status on screen whenever it is On/Off.

Thanks for your help.

I hope this is in the right area... I have been using a Lenovo Flex 3 for...about 6 months now, I think. Maybe a few more than that, but overall - you get the picture. As far as I can tell, this link details the machine I'm using. I've taken pains to ensure that my machine is configured the way I like it - some of it was easy, some of it not so much. I've customized the coloration, put up a new background, reinstalled the Start menu because I despise Windows 8/8.1's "start screen", disabled the touch screen due to my habit of shifting position and then needing to adjust the angle of the screen... I mean you know how it goes. All the little tweaks that really make it your machine, right? One such tweak would be disabling this **bleep** popup that shows up EVERY time I hit caps lock. I have taken a picture of it from this screen itself to show that I am still dealing with this - it is intrusive. It is unnecessary. It is, overall, infuriating to me. This is what it looks like! In the vein of taking pains, I have taken a great many trying to find a working method for removing it. I have gone in to RegEdit, but I have no Widcomm folder under the specified directory. I have tried uninstalling Lenovo Energy Management, but I had to remove OneKey Optimizer instead, as LEM was apparently replaced with or bundled in to OKO...and doing so did not rid me of this popup - as you can see in the bottom right of my screenshot, I no longer have the ... When I hit Caps Lock, a display pops up in the lower right corner of the screen to notify me of the change.  It looks like this: http://i55.tinypic.com/15xez9.png How do I stop this from happening?  I've found a bunch of workarounds via Google, and they all either don't work for me or don't apply.

Answer:Caps Lock indicator in lower right of screen

Looks like you have a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard. Easy way (if you don't use Bluetooth)Click Start.Type MSCONFIG.Allow User Account Control? - click Yes.Click Startup tab.Remove check marks from "Bluetooth Software" and/or "HP Desktop Keyboard".Restart computer. If you want to only shut down the little graphical presentation and you want to keep the bluetooth icon, use the steps above to prevent "HP Desktop Keyboard" from loading, but do not remove the checkmark next to bluetooth. And then prevent the OSD for the bluetooth caps lock indicator by making a minor change in the registry:Click Start.Type REGEDIT.Allow User Account Control? - click Yes.To backup your registry (in case soething goes haywire), select Computer, click File menu, click Export, give a name and save. After backing up registry, open each of the following registry values (the little folders) in this path:  HKEY_LOCAL_MCHINE_\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BTConfig\General\Double-click the value KeyIndication in the list on the right.Change the hex value from a one (1) TO A ZERO (0).Close the registry editor window and restart your computer. You don't need to save anything - it happens on the fly (scary).

THE "HP On-Screen Caps/Num/Scroll lock Indicator" shows up in Programs and Features, but the size cell is empty!! Indicator lost during a previous "fix" of an unrelated problem. HP states they can neither replace the file nor download the file contenets. What, Where, and How can I retrieve the indicator as I have a &[email protected]*+ remote keyboard? HELP!
khdphd

Answer:HP On-Screen Caps/Num/Scroll lock Indicator

Hi, khdphd, and welcome to the forum....

They say they cannot download the file? I have always seen every HP that uses those hkCMD.exe files to be able to download them for that computer in the event of a reinstall.

Did you look at software available for download for your computer? If it is there, then you can download it, uninstall the current version, reboot and install that one and it should load the original files back in place.

Try uninstalling hkcmnd from Programs and Features (it may be named something a bit more fancy)

And I know what HP *said* - but look anyway.

So I was using the laptop with an hdmi cord attatched to my tv and it wasn't playing sound. I went through the control panel and attempted a few different things with no luck so I rebooted the computer. When it turned back on only the tv screen worked and the laptop screen was black. No backlight just dark. I performed a bios recovery and that went through succesfully but the caps lock button still blinks and I still have no video to the laptop screen.

My HP Pavilion x360's screen is black. The computer turns on but the screen remains blank. The Caps Lock LEDs blink, but that is all. Ive tried to do a hard reset but nothing happens. I read that the LEDs are emitting a blink code for a CPU issue, but I don't know how to fix the problem.

Hi. I know a lot of people doesn't like the on-screen display of caps lock and I agree that having an indicator in the caps key is great. But sometimes I'm typing and switching and I'm very used to see if the caps is activated without moving my palm out of the place. So... is there any way to show the caps lock when is activated as it used to in previous models, like now it displays the keyboard light, microphone mute, etc? Some registry maybe?  Thanks.

If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^
