G510s Battery and Charging: Blinking Light and Inconsistent Charging

Question: G510s Battery and Charging: Blinking Light and Inconsistent Charging

So lately I've been having an issue with my laptop. The charger is plugged in but the computer doesn't seem to recognize it unless I shift the laptop to a certain position. This seems to have little to do with the position of the AC plug in the DC port at all as it's not the same positions that will actually get the computer to recognize the charger is plugged in. I don't think this has anything to do with the battery itself as removing the battery does not make the connection more consistent. The computer will still not recognize the AC adapter is plugged in. I had the same problem with my old laptop, a V570. It will also briefly lose connection and restore it before my display can process it. I know this by the CPU throttle in the BIOS (which I can't access to turn off because of the version of BIOS used) will randomly slow my computer down and won't restore to full speed when the charger is making connection again. What just happened lately which is making me wonder about this more is that my laptop stopped recognizing the charger as being plugged in in the tray icon but the charger light on my laptop started flashing orange. The blue power light was also flashing. Sometimes when I restart my computer to reset the CPU throttle, I will get a pop-up message from the Battery Management Software stating, "Adapter has limited support: performance will be affected ..." Full specs available on the purchase page here. (This is the exact one I ordered.) I replaced the 2GB memory card with a 4GB memory card from my V570.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Charging light keep blinking

I guess you should read the manual, normaly it means battery failure in other brand notebooks.but if yours has charge prolly they are OK, by the way you can't charge more than that if your using it (connected and ON), it happends too with HP notebooks.

Hi all, I bought a U41-70 only a few months ago. Just recently, while I plug in my laptop to charge, the battery indicator shows status charging. However, the LED indicator stays orange and slowly blinking (light is on for 3-4 sec then blinks and so on). And the battery percentage won't increase as well. I have looked into Lenovo settings but the Power Status tab says AC adapter is attached and the main battery condition is Good. Do you have any idea what is happening here or any suggestions?

I have an HP ProBook 455 G1 that won't start / boot. All of a sudden, the light next to the power cable was blinking white.  The laptop wouldn't turn on - no lights, no display, no fan activity.   I have tried the recommended hard reset solution already where everything is disconnected, including the battery, and the power button is held for 40 seconds.  This solution does not solve the problem I'm experiencing with this laptop. I've been troubleshooting it for a few days have had no luck. Through reading fourms, some people had similar issue and solved it by disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard. I have tried this and still no luck. I have changed out the following; Memory, Harddrive, Charger, Battery.  Still no luck. If you know anything that I could try or anything that would help, please let me know. Many thanks

The battery won't charge unless the plugged in cable is held at an angle. This started after the warranty had expired. I already purchased a new charger and it didn't solve the problem.

Hello Guys,I have HP dv6 pavilion series with Windows 10 (64 bit) for 4 years now. I dont have the Battery so I usually work with directly connecting the Power cable. It worked fine till now. Today it abruptly Shut down and since then its not booting. The Charging light keeps on Blinking.I have tried the 40/30 sec trick (holding thepower on button for 30-40 secs for the capacitors to discharge) twice, but in vain. I also cleaned up my cooling fan and checked for all the wiring, its all intact. After re-essembling the laptop, the same problem persists. And about the Bios update, I do think I have the latest bios updated, as my laptop is connected with internet, and I usually keep it all Updated. And if someone recommends me to Update the BIOS, well I cannot power on my laptop, so is there any alternative for updating the BIOS? Earlier it did Abruptly Shutdown twice or thrice over last few days, but used to Power up again. But today it wont work. Please Help Me guys. Thanks

Product Name: HP ENVY 15-u010dx x360 Convertible PCProduct Model: 15-U010dXOperating System: Windows 8.1 (64-bit)When Purchased: July 2014 The Problem: The LED charging light flashes continuously (even when powered off or plugged in) and when the laptop is plugged in, the battery simply will not charge.  Details: This just started today. When the laptop is plugged in, it states "plugged in, not charging." However, the battery doesn't lose charge while it's plugged in. It's like the computer is dependent upon the power cord and the battery is shot.  This is strange because I don't leave my laptop charging for long periods of time. Thinking back, my laptop has died at around 11% charge since I purchased it. What I've Tried:turning it off and back oninstalling updates and restartingseeing if the laptop would charge while it's offswitching cordsswitching outletshours of browsing HP and other support forumsI'm hesitant to try any battery calibration or removal until I know whether my battery is removable. Hopefully, you all can help. I also don't even know what the diagnosis of the problem is, and don't want to spend money taking it in to get it fixed until I have a better idea.

only seems to happen sporadically, or when playing games - where it happens every few seconds. The power button/status light on the edge of the computer, and the charging status light will both begin blinking. The battery/charging light blinks red. Reinserting the charging cable in the computer temporarily fixes the problem. When the lights are blinking, it is evident that the computer is not getting power because the FPS drops dramatically.  thanks for any help

Answer:y470 charger problem, simultaneous blinking status and charging light

It might be that the power supply is wearing out and unable to provide maximum power draw. Another case is that the power supply gets very hot that it limits the power draw to prevent melting. You can get a spare power brick here

When i plug it in to charge it will be okay for a little while, then it will stop charging and the power light, and both the indicator lights on the front of the laptop (battery and power) will start flashing rapidly. Please help. I have already tried uninstalling the lenovo power management, didnt work. My battery does not need a firmware update, i checked. I already did the BIOS update. Tried a battery gage reset, was never able to complete it cause the computer stops recognizing the charger before it finishes. Tried a different outlet and charger. Answer:Battery Not Charging and lights blinking

Hi Krissyal06,thanks for posting and welcome to the community. To be honest I would not like to to think that this could be related to the hardware but it seems like this could be related to the mother board. However I'd like to be sure first so let try different possibilities. If this fails I believe your system may require to be sent to our service teams for further analysis.Let try this first though. Power down your machine to a complete shut and the take out the battery and power cord from the computer. Once done Press the power button repeatedly for 10secs and then hold the power button for another 10sec. Once done assemble everything back again and check for the difference. If you do not notice any difference try uninstalling the Lenovo Energy management software and then reinstall the software from the link below and check for the changes again.http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032254Another thing that you might want to consider doing first before attempting the above is to update the Battery firmware. Below is the link that you can update the battery.http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035310I hope this helps. and do post back your results.Regards

I have reinstalled windows 8 but that didnt fix the problem. And if i try to run the laptop on ac-power it will shut down when booting or shut down after 10-15min. Before this problem i was charging the laptop while working. I dont know if its the charger or the battery. I have measureed the charger and it is gives 19v all the time. I dont really know what to do know and any help will be appreciated.

Hi, So out of the blue my Yoga 13 seized up while sitting at the start menu in Windows 8.1. I had to kill the local svc host which had accumulated over 2GB of ram... just so I could shutdown the machine,  but when I shutdown some craziness started. The power wouldn't turn off even after 20 minutes. I held it down forever and finally it did turn off (maybe the shutdown was incredibly prolonged). I did also flash the bios after this craziness, to the one on the suggested download site (version 55).  At any rate, that's when the problems really started: I got the plugged in not charging issue in windowsThe battery charging light no longer turns on when plugged in (though the battery is charging). The novo button doesn't work.Unauthorized battery messagePower button wasn't responsive when off. It took several minutes for it to register. I of course have tried, from the forums: Letting the battery run down to zero/Shutting down the power from the bios. The latter fixed the unautorized battery problem.Uninstalling/Reinstalling Lenovo energy management. This does allow the battery icon in windows to show charging above 90%... sometimes.Turned off fast boot in windows and bios. The problem with the power button not responding when off is much, much less in frequency now.Making sure that Maximum Battery was selected in Energy Management.Resetting the battery guageI reflashed my bios to version 55 with the default fan profiles located in a Lenovo KB article... Slowly the battery started not charging, the day before it happened it was charging, but only after waiting a bit with it plugged in, or I'd have to turn it off and keep the adapter in to plug it back in. When its on, the indicator light isnt on to signify charging and it isnt charging. When the laptop is off, and I plug in the ac adapter, it goes from a blue light, to a red light, then off in the same pattern, not charging at all. I'm wondering if this is a problem with the battery, the solder, or just the motherboard itself. I tried a new power supply and took out the battery as well, when its plugged in without the battery, pressing the power button will turn it on for a second, but it wont fully turn on and the charge light will also turn off when the whole thing turns off, but immidiately go back to the solid blue when its completely off with the battery out.

When turned off,  There is no indicator led light that shows it is plugged in or that it is charging. Battery does not charge. When turned on with only ac, computer works. When turned on with battery, Computer works. When turned on with ac and battery, computer works and it indicates that battery is charging via led light on bottom of screen and in power meter, but battery % stays the same, which means it does not charge battery.  I am running xp and did a fresh reboot. Same problem.  I also tried 3 different batteries, same thing. Help.

I have an older SL510 laptop, which has been working very well. But recently the battery power was continuing to diminish until recently, it stopped holding a charge altogether. At this stage, the orange battery indicator started to blink continuously at a rapid rate. I am still able to power up the laptop with my power cord connected. Purchased a new battery to replace the old and assumed light would go to green after charging. Unfortunately, after several hours connected to the charger, the battery light continues its constant orange blinking. Went through the process of uninstalling the ACPI file as noted in another post. Followed these steps:1. Disconnect AC2. Shut down3. Remove battery4. Connect AC5. Startup6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of Microsoft's ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Uninstall (note that it is all right if you only have one).7. Shutdown8. Disconnect AC9. Insert battery10. Connect AC11. Restart your computerAfter completed this process, battery light continues to blink rapidly and battery doesn't seem to want to charge, or provide any indication that battery is inserted in computer. This happens whether I'm using either of the 2-power adapters I have for this laptop. What can I do to get this fixed??? Thank you in advance for any assistence provided!!!

My V5 471PG battery charging light blinks for 3-4 times then stops then battery not charging. What maybe the problem? Is it the battery or what?

Answer:My V5 471PG battery charging light blinks for 3-4 ...

It almost sounds like there is a problem with your Battery or Charging unit.. It could be that there is a short in your Charger Cord and if you unplug it form the computer and run down the length of the cord you may find any area where it became kinked and then damaged.. Also if you have a meter you could try testing the charger and see if it is working to the Specs of the charger... Shold be wrote on the unit how DC output it is. Maybe 19 to 20v DC...  Hope this helps someJames

I am having an issue with HP Envy 15. It will work with the battery in, but no power light comes on (either white or amber). With battery removed, the laptop won't boot, and LED flashes three times white. Issue:When plugged in, battery in, Laptop will boot up, no lights on, PC works. Battery doesn't charge, but doesn't discharge eitherWhen plugged in, no battery, Laptop does not boot, and LED power indicator flash three times whiteWhen unplugged, battery in, Laptop runs, but battery discharges. I've searched the net and this forum extensively. Most "three flashes" occur when laptop won't boot. I don't have that issue when the battery is in. Only with the battery removed. I've tried the CMOS battery drain trick, no changes. I've tried a new battery, no changeI've check the power plug 'pin', it is straight. Anyone have an idea what might be going on?  I am good with this laptop until something happens that both batteries end up dead, then I am stuck with a laptop that is basically a high-priced door stop. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

I have the above model and recently when I plug my power cord at the back of the laptop instead of the usual green constant light indicating charging, the light keeps flashing and the orange light of low battery keeps flashing as well.

I checked the outlet, unplugged the power cord from the laptop and plugged it in back again but doesn't help. A few times it started charging so all was fine and now it again refuses to charge.

Any suggestions how I can fix this will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite A30 - power light flashes and battery not charging

It seems like a hardware problem?

Usually if the power LED flashes then this sounds not good because the LED provide an error code which can be read by a notebook technician?

But before you will contact the notebook technician for the help try to do this:
Remove the battery pack and disconnect the AC adaptor from the notebook?
Wait about 20-30min and then connect both parts again.

Then try to power up the notebook?

If it doesn?t help that it?s time for the ASP call?

Hello. A few months ago I purchased a refurb T61.  I don't know the screen size at the moment.  The battery just died without warning. I assume that I need to purchase a new one.  Is this a common issue with IBM batteries?  The customer service said that it is not subject to a recall.  I was considering buying a refurb battery 9 cell, due to the price.  Do you think it is likely that it will konk out in 6 months? Also, in reading old threads about similar issues, people are talking about battery abuse.  What exactly is that?  What is the best way to use a battery in a lap top?  Should one remove it when it is plugged in?  And is it okay to install the battery while the computer is on and running?  Is there ever and issue of unplugging a computer that is on and with a battery in it and replugging it in in another socket?  etc. Thanks!

Answer:T61 (6464) Battery Not Charging and Orange Light Flashing

Hello,

All rechargeable batteries eventually fail, it's just a matter of when.  I believe the T61 was introduced in 2007, which means its likely the refurbished unit you purchased had a battery around five to six years old.

You can try purchasing a replacement battery from a third party, but make sure they are reputable and you get some kind of warranty in case it dies all of a sudden.  Counterfeit batteries are quite common, and unless you purchase a genuine battery from Lenovo it's something of a gamble.

I have always left batterys plugged into the notebook and let Lenovo's power management software manage the battery for me.

I recently bought a *Toshiba Satellite C665 / 012* and when ever I attempt to charge it the _orange light will just stay on_ and when I do decide to unplug it the battery status stays at 99 % and does not depleat or increase_._

What could be wrong with it and will the warranty still cover it should I decide to return it

Answer:Satellite C665/012 Battery Charging light stays orange

Hi

In your case I recommend to calibrate the battery firstly.

You should discharge the battery until the notebook would shut down automatically. Note: save your work before notebook would power off!
Then leave the notebook connected to the AC adaptor for a longer period of time.
Usually the LED status should change to green (or blue depending on the notebook model).
Then discharge the battery once again. Repeat this procedure 3-4 times.

Hope this helps

Powered it on and it displayed that it was charged 100 % so something is definitely wrong.

Can anyone help

Answer:Battery Charging light stays orange on Satellite A665/012

Hi

Did you calibrate the battery in the past?
Do this! This would improve the battery performance and the battery working time.

You have to discharge the battery completely until it would be fully empty.
Then charge the battery again. Repeat this procedure several times.
I think 3, 4 times would be enough.

After that check if the battery would reach the 100% and if the led would switch back to green.

Hi, My lenovo g505s has stooped charging and both battery and power tlights are on (white ) when Ac power is not plugged in. When I plugged in AC power both light will start blinking (power white battery orange). Is it a software problem or problem with the pin of power. My battery and charger are working fine.(checked on another laptop). Please help out.

Answer:Lenovo G505s Not charging both battery and power light are white.

From your service manual (available on the Support tab for your notebook) ... it says that your blinking while is sleep mode, the blinking amber indicates charging battery.  If your lights are fast blinking (less than one second apart) it may mean something different.

Would try removing battery and AC adapter, press and hold power button for 30 seconds then release.  Reinstall battery and AC power then start the notebook using power button.  Run Lenovo diagnostics and have it check the battery for faults.

Good luck.

I have a Mini-Notebook, NB500-108, running Windows 7, and it never had battery issues until now.
For some reason, battery stopped charging at 99%, then at 98% and now at 97%.
Tray icon says "plugged in, charging" but it never reaches 100%.

Besides that, the led light never changes from orange to green, like it used to do before.
That is annoying because I can't see if battery is totally charged when the machine is turned off.

I've already tried a lot of suggestions in order to recalibrate battery:
1. Flashing BIOS;
2. Uninstall/disable Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method in Device Manager;
3. Full discharge/full charge;
4. Half discharge/full charge;
5. Removed the battery and pressed power button for 10, 20, 30 seconds...;
6. System restore;
7. Same beahaviour with a Linux live pen.

None of this worked. Any comments on this, Toshiba Support?
Thank you in advance.

Toshiba Support? This is a user-to-user forum dude? you will get some comments from community members ;)

I think it could be a faulty battery?since lithium batteries would start losing the own performance after being charged for 400-500 times, I would assume that your battery is affected? it?s just a theory but I think it?s worth to test a new part

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

My laptop has been distrubing since yesterday. Whenever I put in the power chord, the power light and battery light starts flashing together and the laptop does not charge. When I remove the chord, the flashing disapperas. Occassionally, it charges a little before going out again.  I tried using the laptop without the battery. It sometimes does not start and other times, it goes into the first few seconds of booting (the BIOS page) before going out again.  Do you guys know what this code indicates? hello, all... it is in yet another time of need that i turn to you ...my notebook (dell inspiron 1525, about 1 year old) started showing signs that its battery might be warn out - when it was not plugged in with its adapter, within a few minutes it would without warning go into sleep mode and upon trying to turn on, warn me that the battery was at a critical low...

now, today it had been on for a while in a summer-hot room and it was only when i tried to put it to sleep to ~reduce~ the burden on it, the battery light started flashing orange (the warning that your battery is in trouble, 4 times quick, 1 blue flash) and nothing - not turning it off, letting it cool, would make it stop
...it does come back on but i don't foolishly think it's going to last! the battery meter also says, instead of 100%, now 99% and will not go up... (my father's notebook battery meter is always stuck on ***74%*** even if allowed to charge, and it's been this way since turning it on for the first time... so i'm not sure what is causing that...)
the only time the orange light did go out was when i UNplugged the adapter but as soon as i plug it back in, that happens again ...and if i leave it unplugged for too long, the system will go to that critical low situation again and this time it won't be able to re-charge either. based on your experience and expertise, do you think the problem is most likely the battery (and/or the adapter cable? or the a/c connector port?) ne... Hi...

I am having a problem with my laptop computer. I figured out that my laptop, when being charged or using the Power Outlet, runs at 100% CPU at times, and slows me down when running and working on some open applications. At first I thought I had tons of spyware or even a virus, and even posted a Hijackthis file here. Nothing was found.
I figured out that my cpu runs at 100% when using the power outlet, or when my computer is chargnig. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? Is this and indication that my battery is going bad???? Can someone help me with this or suggest what is going on? I am running windows XP home edition, and have a compac presario 1500 series. Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi, I upgraded my Sony Vaio to Windows 10. Since the upgrade, battery icon showing "Plugged in, Charging" but not actually charging. Always it is in 3% and when unplug the power, system shutdowns.

Answer:Sony Vaio - shows charging, but not charging the battery?

From: Recovery and Troubleshooting Guide
Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
When you intend to run your VAIO computer on battery power, the battery pack may have run out of power. Connect the computer to a power outlet. For details, refer to Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
If you did not previously follow the standard procedure to turn off your VAIO computer, the power controller may be suspended due to a program error.
Do as follow:
- On the models with a built-in battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, push and hold the battery off button for at least three seconds with a thin, straight object (such as a paper clip), and leave the computer for at least
five minutes. Then, plug the AC adapter and turn on the computer once again. For the location of the battery off button, refer to Locating Parts and Controls in the Startup Guide.
- On the models with a removable battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, remove the battery pack, and leave the computer for at least five minutes. Then, reinstall the battery pack and turn on the computer once again.

I have a satellite A105-4054, which has given excellent service. Yesterday, the power light started flashing amber and stopped charging the battery. I had a second freshly charged battery, which I used instead and the power light still flashes amber.

I checked the Original Toshiba battery charger, which came with the unit, with a voltmeter and it shows 15 volts, which is correct. The laptop will boot normally with a freshly charged battery, but it will not charge when plugged in, and the power light flashes amber continually. If I remove the battery and leave the laptop plugged in, the power light flashes amber continually, and nothing happens (no power up). I would be happy to just run the laptop on AC, but that is not possible, right now

The toshiba power utility system tray icon, when the laptop is booted up on the fresh battery, flashes back and forth between charging and battery, and the battery does not seem to charge. Previously, the power utility would show AC power continuously when the unit was plugged in and the power light would stay blue.

I really like the laptop, since it has given superb service, and would like to keep it. Any reasonable solutions, please?

Thanks guys (and gals)!

Answer:Re: Satellite A105 - power light started flashing amber/battery not charging

On this virtual way nobody can say for sure what the problem is but after reading your detailed posting I think there is problem with power supply electronic placed on the mainboard. Only technicians with special diagnostic tools can say for sure what is wrong there.

In my opinion there is no much you can do about it and in such case whole mainboard must be exchanged. If you want contact nearest authorized service provider, explain the situation and I hope they can tell you more about that.

hi kanyewest,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).

2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

Hi, I have an X220 Tablet that's about 3 and a half years old -- so unfortunately just out of warranty -- and I'm having battery/charging problems. A few months ago the original 6-cell battery that came with the laptop died: Power Manager reported it as dead and needing replacing. It had had 500-something cycles, so it seemed reasonable. I went ahead and bought a new 6-cell battery from Lenovo, the 67+, and then my system was fine again. But one day a few weeks ago this battery suddenly stopped charging. Power Manager reported that "The battery is in good condition", and it was reported as "Status: Charging", but it was not actually charging and was instead very slowly discharging its way to 0%. Something suspicious is perhaps that PM reported "Current: 0.00 A". I thought it might be the battery, so I got another one, but that has exactly the same issue -- now I have two batteries, each discharged completely and with no way to charge them. Charging doesn't happen regardless of whether the computer is on or off, or whether I'm in Windows (7) or Linux. I checked the AC adapter/charger with a multimeter and it is reporting 20V as it's supposed to, so I guess that's okay. Plus, the laptop runs fine on just the AC adapter, even if it's a little bit slower (which I gather is due to it being 65W rather than 90W). The only slightly unusual thing I can remember from the day charging stopped functioning is that I was using the 'always on' USB port to charge my ... Answer:Battery not charging despite being reported as good and as charging

It is hard for me to be certain without seeing it, and Sweden is a long way from San Francisco. The symptom point to a blown fuse or power transistor (mosfet). Either can cause your problem, and usually require motherboard replacement. If nothing was going on when the problem started, (no power failure, lightning storm, failure of power adapter, tripping over the cord) I would guess mosfet. Some shops can repair fuses, but they require fairly good soldering equipment. I have had much poorer luck fixing mosfets, because usually, more than one chip is bad. You might be able to find a motherboard for a reasonable price. I have one for sale on eBay for under $100, but international shipping is expensive and you might do better locally. Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Hi Hang,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

I hope the above information helps.

I've had my HP Envy laptop for about 3 months, and yesterday I noticed that when it was plugged in it wasn't charging (the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging"). I turned it off overnight, plugged in, and this morning the battery was fully charged. It only seems to not charge when it is turned on. I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. Any ideas please, I've run out of google search ideas!!

For some time have received the error message regarding under power smart adaptor with newer replacement HP adaptor matching original.  Battery icon lists % charge & "not charging".  Battery tests good in HP Support Assistant battery check.  Power adaptor will power my older Pavillion laptop but not  the Envy with or without battery installed.  Battery charging LED does not light.  Have tried re-calibration by deleting Microsoft devices in Device Manager.  Envy will operate with and without battery while using Dell power adaptor. Computer repair shop says Smart adaptor produces 0 voltage (even though it powers Pavillion) and I need a new battery (even though diagnostic test indicates good). Help!!!

To whom it may concern.I am in desperate help..... I have tried every solution i have managed to find on the internet but none of them work. I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 Laptop. When plugging the power supply in the batery shows that its charging but it never actually charges but simply remians on at same level.....I have checked the power supply as I have an exact duplicate laptop at my disposal, same with the battery. The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Answer:G50-70 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hello,

I have read a few other similar posts but none of their solutions worked on my laptop.  The battery percentage stays the same when plugged into the charger.  I first noticed the issue this morning when I powered the laptop on and the percentage was at 44% with the charger plugged in overnight, and it was at 44% when I plugged the charger in last night.  I only put the battery in the laptop a couple days during the week when I'm in school, otherwise I just leave it out and have it powered through the adapter.  The laptop is 7 months old.

I tried the Gauge Reset for 8 hours today and it wasn't doing anything so I cancelled it.   I have reinstalled the Energy Management software.  I have also tried shutting it down for 20 minutes and charging it at a different wall outlet.

What else can I do?

Thank you

Edit:
******Solution******

I just tried this from another post and it worked!  Battery is charging again.

a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.
b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter
c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

Client's relatively new Yoga 500 is exhibiting a weird problem in Windows 10 anniversary edition. The battery is currently at 47% but keeps flickering between charging and not charging. The icon changes every second, possibly faster. Tried swapping power supplies so it's not that. When first reported, the battery was at 40% but then got to 47% during a reboot. The battery on the Yoga 500 is internal so not possible to try swapping batteries. Any ideas or suggestions?

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

Thus:
1. The problem is som... Read more

How old is it? Most likely the battery if you use it a lot on battery power, not plugged in.

My G50-70 of less than a year just got a dead battery. The battery is constantly at 7%. It says "Plugged in, charging" but it doesn't actually charge. Please help!

Answer:G50-70 Battery says "Plugged in, Charging" but not charging

Hi Mistwild82,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with battery plugged in charging in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.

Please try to perform the gauge reset, under power manager select maintenance guide and select gauge reset and check for the issue.

Also try to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI driver, uninstall the drivers under ACPI and restart the system and check for the issue.

Also shut down the system and try to charge the system for 1 or 2 hours and check if the charging percentage has increased. If the charging percentage has increased in Linux then it?s a issue with operating system please reinstall the operating system and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

The new replacement battery for my T40 is not charging at all. in spite of the fact that the T40 battery statistics state the battery is healthy , charging and behaving normally  (with currently 0 % charge, 8.64 voltage, 24 C temperature (not hot)).  The T40 works just fine when plugged into a wall outlet so the problem is not the A/C adapter.  The T40 device manager gives correct manufacturing date 2/09 and correct T40 plug in date of 4/09, serial number, etc.  the design voltage is 10.80 V so it knows what is there.  I am using windows XP prof... This battery is  6 cell..  The original battery was a 9 cell. The manufacturer contends this battery will work on any T40 and the manual indicates that either 6 cell or 9 cell can be used... The only abnormal indication so far is that when I asked  the Lenovo site to automatically identify the specs of my T40, it listed  a 9 cell battery instead of a 6 cell one.   Does that tell us anything about what might be wrong?  with respect to the suggestions on the regular lenovo site, I already did all  that I could do  including sending the first replacement battery back to the manufacturer who then sent a second one to me.  I couldn't upgrade the battery controller because that first required an upgrade of the Bios and I can't do the Bios upgrade without a fully charged battery.  Thanks very much for any help.

I have a Dell Latitude that was working fine until recently when all of a sudden the battery light started blinking orange and the battery would no longer charge. It says it's "plugged in, not charging"  and I've tried to shut down-disconnect the adapter-remove battery-reconnect the charger-turn on-uninstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery-shut down-insert battery-turn on, but nothing has worked so far. Also, when I turn on the laptop, it turns on and off a couple of times before starting fully.
I tried to use a different battery, which shows a white light but still doesn't charge. Not sure what happened since it was working fine before.

I know I made some sort of setting change related to the dimming of the monitor last week, but don't remember what it was. That MAY or MAY NOT be related. Please advise.

And when opened power manager, even there I am seeing Main battery condition as good and second battery condition as error. Can anyone please let me know why would this error come and how to resolve it? By any chance would T400 will have 2 batteries? Please let me know if you need any thing else.

ASUS G75VW-DS71 LapTop, 64 bit OS, Win7
I noted posts as long ago as 2002 re same issue. Here it is...
My tray battery readout says "96% available (plugged in, not charging)". I bought a new battery, and it showed "100% available (plugged in, charging)". For about 2 days.
Then it showed "96% available (plugged in, not charging)". I thought 'faulty battery', and exchanged it again.
While waiting I placed the original battery into the laptop, and it showed "96% available (plugged in, and charging)". After 2 days it returned to "96% available (plugged in, not charging)".
The new replacement battery arrived. It showed 100% available, charging for 2-3 days, then reverted to 97%, not charging.
Oh... once it gets to the "not charging" point, the laptop battery light flashes orange continually.
Is this a problem? Or, should I just ignore it? I like things to work 'right', so any input would be welcome.
Thanks.

Answer:Battery charging / not charging

Can you run it on the battery or is it left plugged in all the time?
I have a lenovo laptop at work that is left plugged in most of the time, always shows 97%, but does work if I unplug the charger.

Answer:Charging LED blinking but no boot

Hi ANKUR.OPENDRA,
Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
Are you using an original Dell Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
Disconnect all external components - Turn off the system - press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics - see if you encounter any errors or check if the system turns off automatically while on the diags - test this step with and without the adapter connected.
Download the service manual - http://dell.to/20ZyccH- reseat the memory modules / HDD and check if the system powers on.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hey all, I just bought my first Lenovo System Recently and I'm having a hard time figuring out whether or not my battery is fully charged when the system is turned off. I know other brands like Acer change the charging light from yellow to green or blue when the battery is fully charged. However, for the IdeaPad, it turns from orange to a blinking white light. Is this normal?

My Samsung laptop charger has the light coming on however it is not charging, the charger is heating up so is this the charger or the laptop? have ordered another charger from coywood.co.uk as they had universal one's and i rang a couple of local computer shops but these wanted 65 to even look at it so advice would be welcome incase this does not work?

Answer:Charger Light On, Not Charging?

Hi

first off dont use anything but an official charger, the cheap ones can and will damage your motherboard due to them being unregulated and supplying to much current.

If the charger has the light on but wont charge then the internal cable is broken and may be shorting out inside the sleeving.

check the cable by eye for severe kinks or bends in the cable.

Should you find one, cut the section just before and after the kink and then strip the cable back and join the wires and test it, if it works then you can either solder the wires and use heat shrink plastic to join them or buy a new one.

The charging light on the front left-hand side of my computer is blinking erratically when the battery is at 100% as well as when the battery is removed. I've had a few issues in the last couple of days where it hasn't been charging and I'm not sure if that is related.

So I am not sure if the battery is dead, or if the notebook itself took some damage. Thanks for your advice.

Hi guys I hope you could help me with my problem.

I have a mid2010 13in i5 intel hd4000 MBP running OSX Maverick .

I have encountered this problem of it not charging a couple of times recently.

So I connected the magsafe adapter to my laptop but it won't charge. The adapter has no green or orange light whatsoever. So I shut it down and connected the adapter again. This time the adapter blinks with green light. But it is still not charging. I opened the laptop and the adapter is not showing any light again. The adapter is blinking green erraticaly when the laptop is off and no lights when it is on. Either way it is not charging. I tried doing an SMC reset but it did nothing. The problem goes away after some hour of not using the laptop and the adapter.

This problem happened a couple of times and I'm having it right now. I hope that it would go away later. What could it be? I have included a video of the adapter blinking.

http://tinypic.com/r/xmq5iq/8

Thank you!

Answer:MacBookPro not charging. Magsafe blinking. (video included)

Have you tried a new power adapter?
