Lenovo B590 Model 20208 SSD Upgrade Win7 64

Question: Lenovo B590 Model 20208 SSD Upgrade Win7 64

Hello - I am hoping someone can assist. I am a Mac user first and foremost, but have a very slow Lenovo laptop i am using for work that i would like to upgrade. I have already ordered RAM to upgrade from 2gb to 8gb, but would also like to upgrade to SSD from the standard HDD that is installed. However, the few videos i saw, don't seem to reference the same type of SSD. Is it possible upgrade this machine to SSD to increase speed? If so, what kind of SSD? I appreciate any help that can be given here. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Someone I know is looking to upgrade the hard drive in their Lenovo B590-20208 Notebook because their currently installed hard drive is almost full. The only thing I've been able to find out so far is that it will need to be a SATA III drive. What are the exact specs and maximum size needed for the new hard drive?

Hi! I own lenovo b590 (20208) and i have a problem with one of two usb 3.0 ports. The symptoms are very similar to the symptoms described here http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht079331The external USB 3.0 devices are not recognized on the left USB 3.0 port. When I set USB 3.0 mode to Enabled or Auto Smart Auto USB 2.0 devices are detected but  USB 3.0 does not. The external drive does not appear in Explorer. When USB 3.0 mode is switched off in BIOS, the external 3.0 devices are detected but work only as USB 2.0. How can I fix this problem given that I have windows 8.1 x64 OS on the laptop?

Hello all! (Sorry for bad English but I need help!) I need drivers for the laptop in title, I search but I find many options and I don't know what is the right driver! Is any here can list drivers for download??

Answer:Lenovo b590 20208 windows 7 64bit home premium

hi stathisch9,

You're correct on your mail,
Systems may came with diff hardware configuration , that's why the download site may have diff drivers for one category.

Here's how you can nail it down,
First You need to get the Hardware ID of the device that you needed drivers for,

Check you Device Manager for any "Bang" sign or Question mark symbol,
ex.

Those are where you need drivers for, also some of the devices like Video card and soundcard may not have a symbol because Windows provided a default driver, but still you need to get the drivers for those.

Ok, how to get Hardware ID , follow this guide
Ondevice manager window
     1. Right click on the device that you need to identify, then choose properties
     2. Once you have the properties Windows Click on the details tab.
     3. On the details tab Choose Hardware ID on the Property Drop down box
     4. and on the Value pane the first line is your Hardware ID,
     5. Get the VEN and the DEV Value, in this example VEN-8086 and DEV-1C3a
ex. PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C3A&SUBSYS_307C17AA&REV_04
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
You then go to PCI DATABASE and enter the DEV value (1C3A) into the device search.
With the results provided to you look for the matching vendor Value (8086). Then you'll know what device i... Read more

Hi All Notebook includes a Broadcom 43142 Wireless LAN Adapter.Installed Lenovo Wifi driver 6.20.55.55 for Windows 7 64 bits, which reports b/g/n as well, but maximum speed is 54Mbps !! What the hell? Have a b/g/n router. Also, an old desktop with a crappy TPLink Atheros card reporting 150Mbps all the time which works perfectly. The notebook wifi card, will not allow to set speed beyond 54mbps. Tried the WMM setting mentioned in another post, wich increased speed to 72Mbps, but dropped to 68Mbps and more. Why on earth wifi does not allow full 150Mbps or 300Mbps? this really sucks.(Not to mention that transmission speed between computers is 2Mbyte/s, wich sucks as well) Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

hi Legacy,

The BIOS v1.12 is most likely the recent version available for your unit as the update on the lenovo website is for v1.08 to v1.12.

If the main reason for getting the Intel VT enabled is to run Windows XP Mode, have you tried VMWare or Virtualbox to accomplish it?

HiWe recently bought a Lenovo B590 with pre-installed Windows 8, which we absolutely hated of several reasons. We haven't used the laptop since we bought it a month ago because of Windows8, so we decided to install Windows 7 or Windows XP as an alternative, as these are the installation discs we have from other laptops. Now, we couldn't get it to boot from CD, but have figured ot how to avoid the UEFI boot by selecting legacy in the BIOS and choosing CD / DVD as primary boot option. After that we wiped the computer completely with Dereks Boot and Nuke and figured we then could boot from CD.Because we haven't used the laptop, there was no data we would miss, and therefore we haven't made a windows 8 recovery CD before wiping the computer. We then figured with BIOS set to boot from CD and no OS on the laptop, it would be piece of cake to install one of our Windows systems. However, when trying to boot from CD the booting seems to begin, but then immidiately states that there have been an error, or returns to boot menu, depending on the installation disc. When using a Windows 7 installation disc it just returns to boot menu again, without seeming to start booting. Then you can select CD again and again return to menu again, soforth... When using a Windows XP installation disc, it seems to start booting and states that an error has been found and windows has been closed down to prevent damage. Hello

For a Lenovo B590, Model number 59410449, which has the i5 processor, what is the maximum amount of memory that is supported?

Mine shipped with 6 GB.  I'm worried that if the max is 8GB, I will have to buy two 4GB memory sticks.

Does anyone know what the maximum for this model number is?  Am hoping it is 16 GB!

Thanks.

Answer:B590 - Memory for Lenovo Model 59410449

Hi AC2000 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Based on the product specification for this model , memory :
8GB max7 / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3, non-parity, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets; * System automatically clocks down for processors with 1333MHz memory controller

This is the recommended Max memory supported for your model eventhou some processors can handle more (example : 15- 4310U handling 16 GB) since certain consideration are maintained by the systemboard and BIOS for full functionality and avoid non essential upgrades for users.

Your 6 GB ram probably have 2GB and 4 GB (PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3) at the moment so you can simply match the a similar 4GB to max it to 8GB and be able to use dual channel synch for faster communication and transfer.

Hope this helped answer your query.
Update us what works best for you.

Hi Lenovo Community, My question is on the subject, I want to install an SSD Disk on my Lenovo B590 model 6274. Is it possible ? Can somebody help me? Thanks for your help Regards.

Answer:How to install SSD Disk on Lenovo B590 model 6274

hi nonesofar13,

Welcome to the Forums.

The B590 (6274) does support an SSD and you can opt to get a 2.5" or an mSATA form factor.

- Sample items
- Sample items

Since you already have a HDD, you can try to get an mSATA SSD and make it as your boot drive and just make the HDD a storage drive (i.e., For picture, movies, etc.).

 - Sample image

Alternatively, you can just replace the HDD with a 2.5" SSD and optionally get an caddy or a SATA enclosure to convert the HDD as an external drive.

Yes, you can add a 4 GB module.  Just swap out one of the 2 GB for a 4 GB.

Anyone of these listed below will work.  I have included a Lenovo part number in addition to the memory manufacturer's part number. All the modules listed are 1600 MHz (PC 12800) which is the same as installed in your laptop now.

Hi there , i have a Lenovo B590 , i5-3210M -35W Socket  988B rPGA , Ivy Bridge HM77 , Bios H1ET69WW ( 1.12 ) i want to know what cpu i can get to upgrade the laptop . Thank you

Answer:Lenovo B590 Cpu Upgrade

Hi jony21 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums .

Based on the CPU listing for this model (page 85)
Highest processor tested on this model  i5-3210M Ivy Bridge L-0 3MB 2c PGA 2.5GHz STD 35W as what you currently have ( i7 not listed).

There may be similar i7 cpu that would fit Sockets Supported FCPGA988  and that same Intel HM77 Express chipset processor support but the BIOS may not allow and fails booting using i7-3610QM similar to this case.

You can try if you have a spare i7 but certainly not to purchase one not unless tested first.

Hope this provided you information that would help you decide on your next step.

Hi all, Yesterday, I bought a Kingston 4GB PC3-12800 CL11 204 Pin SODIMM RAM chip from my local hardware store because I wanted to upgrade my Lenovo B590 memory, which - by default - has 4GB of DDR3 RAM installed. I had already double checked if the memory was compatible with my B590 by calling Lenovo Support and searching the web (yielding this post, for example). Both sources confirmed upgrading should not be a problem if I did not exceed the 8GB limit. However, after I had hooked up the RAM, I found that it was not being recognized by both my OS (Windows) and my BIOS. They are still indicating that I only have the factory 4096MB installed. How can I make my system utilize this RAM upgrade? Please help, you have my thanks! Note: When I was determining which RAM to buy, I did also check what kind of memory was already installed in my B590 by the manufacturer. I unscrewed my notebook and found one memory chip, brand Hynix, of which I assumed it was one chip of 4GB. However, results for looking up its serial on the web show that it is actually one 2GB DDR3 SDRAM chip. I checked my hardware but could not see any other chip (although I am 100% sure my system has 4 GB RAM installed by the manufacturer). Does this have anything to do with the above? Thanks again!

Hello all. I have a problem with 7 laptops in my firm. All are Lenovo B590, and all fail to upgrade to Windows 10. They run the setup till 40% overall, 23% instaling drivers and features. All fail at exactly the same progress. Tryed doing from Media creation tool, tryed flashing bios to newest version. Tryed removing all external devices and even disabling some of them in Device Manager. I think that my B590's are not on the supported list for Win 10 but still hoped something could be done to get the free upgrade. Tnx in advance for your help and good advice. Cheers

hi all.I have the following question : a friend of mine bought a lenovo b590, model 20206. It has 1 slot with 1 4GB of ram. I would like to know what type of ram I could buy to upgrade. I was in forums that this particular model had first 1333MHz then 1600MHz modules. since this was bought this year, I assume that faster is present, but do I need to open it to see exact numbers or I need just some tool? If just a tool, then pls which one? And last question would be, what is the max. RAM I can put in. Could I combine 4GB module + 8GB module? Would this run? Thanks in advance gents.

Hello! I have a "little" problem with the sound device. Headphones does not mute the main speakers. I've been through many posts and forums. The symptoms are:headphones wont show at all in the sound panel menu nor is there a separate volume control for them available, they wont show even in the sound advanced tab. However, when i plug in/out the headphones jack the relatek hd audio manager does show that action but it does not mute the speakers. Here's what i tried:I updated the BIOS to the latest version, 2.08 and payed attention to update the "realtek" bios version.I tried many realtek drivers. I updated the lenovo system platform driver. I uninstalled all drivers than installed the intel inf update before all and then installed sound drivers again. I read somewhere to try install the alcxxx drivers first the the realtek r drivers, i did it with no sucess. Every possible combination gave me the same result. Good Day I have a T500, model 2243-A12 and have recently upgraded to Win7 32-bit. I now have a problem with horizontal lines in appications. All the images in an application get horizontal distortion.       I have tried downgrading and upgrading the display drivers to no avail. This error does not only occur in MSN, but other applications too, including games and other web browsers... very annoying. It is not defined to images, but some text too. I am currently running driver version 8.15.10.2189 dated 2010/07/28 for Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family. Anyone have any advice? Regards

Answer:T500: Model: 2243-A12: Display Scambles Horizontal Lines since upgrade to Win7

do you have 3 gigs ram installed?

Hello, I'm having some poor battery performance  on my Thinkpad 13 (~4 hours average battery life). I've used the lenovo application and found that my battery still has its full capacity/capability. I often run my 13 on the 'power saver' battery option. I'm also often having issues with significant battery drain even while the laptop is in 'sleep' mode.  Does anyone have any suggestions for these issues?  I am considering upgrading my battery, though I'm not sure which battery to buy--which batteries are compatibe and which ones would give me a significantly longer battery life. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello everybody,i am writing for my girlfriend, who has a lenovo 590, # 6274. I hope i am writing in the correct directory in this forum, as i was quite confused about all the different series, models, and specifications. The issue is, that during skyping, i can hardly understand her (with her old notebook from the stoneages it works just fine). I always have to ask twice about what she said, as it sounds like she would have put a pillow on the microphone (which she doesn't do). Its really quite and very very unclear. We tried pretty much everything in the realtech hd audio options..turning the sensibility of the microphone to the max, turning the noisecanceling off, but that just makes the noise louder and gives me a headache, otherwise, if the noisecancelation is turned on...there is no way to understand her anymore. the laptop was just sent in to germany, where it was made; the paper said, they fixed something but nothing about the microphone, which was given as the reason of sending it in.so we just tried it, no improvement. the newest drivers are installed.running under windows 8 If anybody comes up with something..it would be highly appreciated! Kind regards,Jonas.

Answer:b590, model# 6274 mircophone issue. Need help!

seems like im the only one experiencing that probleme. since i wrote the earlier post, the laptop has been in germany for maintainance twice (the first time the..."fixed"...for some reason the display and loudspeakers..thanks for that. nothing was apparently broken..but..anyway..) well it's got a new mic now, but it's still not working at all. it sounds like she has a bucket on her had..silent. metallic, clicking, no high frequencies.. when we turn of the noise cancelling and turn the sensibilty up..it gets pretty much hard to stand because of the noise. any help highly appreciated. eiskorn

I've downloaded the latest bios zip file h9et92ww.zip and under the dir dos there are several batch files and other files. See below. I have succeeded to update from h1et73ww to h1et85ww, but that bios is already from a year ago. I did not try to run the h9etxxww.bat file, as I have the impression that the h1/h5/h9 are meant for different models. Anyone who can clarify? What do I have to run?Can I update to h9et92ww? Bios.EXEchkGPIO.EXECMPBIOS.EXEDosFlash.exeEC.EXEECIO.EXEEEP_INIT.COMFIND.EXEGPIO.EXEGPIO.INIH1ET85WW.capH1ET85WW.IMCH1ETXXWW.BATH5ET85WW.capH5ET85WW.IMCH5ETXXWW.BATH9ET92WW.capH9ET92WW.IMCH9ETXXWW.BATOUT.BATSMBIOS.EXE

Answer:bios update b590 model 6274

If your notebook or computer is working fine, and you are not needing a specific fix that the BIOS is offering to resolve (CPU support,  bux fix, ect) then I would not bother with updating the BIOS files.  It can be a risky operation with failure resulting in a very expensive door stop.

Hello everybody, I have acquired as mentioned in the title the Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR Model 80M1 notebook for taking notes in class. It comes with a pre-installed 500 Gb SSHD. Because of the heat generated by the SSHD inside a no-fan laptop and the always on the move nature of classes I would preffer a more shock-resistant solution like an SSD. I tried changing it with an OCZ Vertex450 128Gb SSD I had in my desktop pc but it was not detected by the system. I have "used google" the last past days but no concrete answer was found. Not really the most popular laptop I guess, or still too new...Can you more tech-savy guys please help me to understand what I am doing wrong and if it is possible to install an SSD in my notebook? Thanks

Hi Chybear,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are looking for memory up-gradation for your ThinkPad T520.

Your system supports maximum up to 8Gb RAM as per the Detailed Specification, so you have to look for 4Gb RAM only. But some user have checked with upgrading the memory to 16Gb and is working fine.

Please click on the below post for further assistance on memory up-gradation.

Regards, I need to consult on an Ideacentre K410 desktop model: MTM-11681CU. This model has the factory preinstalled Windows 7 Home and brings the i3-2120 Dual Core 3.3Ghz processor which I understand is Sandy Bridge microarchitecture. The query is about updating the maximum CPU that my machine can support and is compatible. According to the hardware manual of my PC says that this model can carry two types of processors: the one I have is i3-2120 and the i5-2320 which is Quad core but is 3.0 Ghz. In the same manual later is the same machine, the K410 but that brings pre-installed windows 8. This brings different processors than the one I have, but I am interested if the i7-3770 that brings as an option this last machine would work to which I have. Looking for information and found that the one I have is Sandy Bridge as I mentioned earlier and the CPU i7-3770 is Ivy Bridge. Check the manufacturer and there is no BIOS update. My question is this i7-3770 processor would work on my pc that comes from the factory the i3-2120 that is Sandy? I would like to upgrade the CPU from my pc to the Max that I can support, but I will have to settle for the i5-2320 ... Thanks for your help.

My new Lenovo B50-30 Touch Model 20383 will not accept a memory upgrade.  The unit shipped new with 4GB RAM.  I have tried Crucial (using online scanner), PNY and Samsung DDR3 12800S SODIMM.  The symptom is a blank screen when trying to boot.  The only memory it will work with is the memory the notebook delivered with.  For example, in trying to troubleshoot, I put the purchased SODIMM in the either slot by itself and it will not boot. I called Lenovo Technical Support and they indicated that this model notebook will only accept memory on a white list. They said the notebook, upon boot, checks the PID of the memory, and if it is not on a white list, the system will not POST. I am having a hard time believing that Lenovo is forcing users to buy Lenovo branded memory.  I know that they did this with internal wireless cards, however, I can understand that more because of FCC rules and radio transmitters. Can anyone help me on this issue?  Has anyone else heard of memory being whitelisted? Thanks in advance!

I am generally a Mac user, but wanted a PC to run a few apps I can't run on my Mac, and didn't want to partition my drive and use Boot Camp (I'd done this previously, and chose not to do it this time). A few days ago I purchased a Lenovo 110-15ISK laptop, model number 80UD0017US. I had been looking at an HP laptop, but read that it was not so user friendly when upgrading the RAM and hard drive, and passed on that one (for that specific reason), and saw this Lenovo in the local Best Buy on sale. I usually check things out pretty throughly before I purchase, but I have to admit, I didn't on this purchase. Although the laptop is nice, I was not pleased to find out that you pretty much have to disassemble half of the computer to be able to access the memory and hard drive. Not exactly what I was hoping for. Anyway, I've decided to leave the hard drive as is, since it's a 1TB (although I prefer SSD and upgraded my MacBook Pro to an SSD on day 1 and love it!). However, I definitely want to upgrade the RAM from 4GB. I was a little horrified to find out that the 4GB is soldered onto the motherboard, and that there's only one available slot for RAM. I've read up a bit on it, on both this forum and through Google and Bing searches, and it seems there are differing opinions on how much RAM this model can accept and still be stable. Some say it can take as much as a 16GB DDR4 stick bringing the memory up to 20GB, and some say that the max is a 4GB stick, bringing the RAM u... Read more

I have a X301 which went through WIN7 (prof 64) upgrade from vista, using the Lenovo DVD (clean install). After upgrade, I have the following issues: 1. Rescue and recovery  - effectively gone. The upgrade DVD doesn't create a new Win7 recovery partition, it either leaves the Vista one in place, or scrubs it, and dumps a vanilla Windows PE environment on the hard drive, with no Lenovo recovery. You cant then install Thinkvantage RnR to create a new recovery image with the Win 7 binaries, because (this is nice) the partition created by the Win 7 upgrade is simply too small to house an R n R and you get "Recovery disabled" if you try to use the R n R features. 2. No Mobile Broadband Connect - Access Connections and the Driver load fine, but then Access Connections needs you to use Lenovo 3G Activate / Mobile Broadband Connect....which isnt on the machine. 3. Downloading Access Help from Lenovo, it installs a bunch of files into the windows Help directory, but I cant see how to activate Lenovo Access Help , nothing seems to have a link. I'd guess the preload includes a revised Windows Help and Support page, or if you keep the Vista Productivity center then it should link back to Access Help, but on a "Clean" Win7 installed from Lenovo's upgrade, there's no way of reaching Access Help. 4. Roxio software - completely gone. Any ideas on how to install the right Lenovo setup on the machine ? I'm licenced for win7 - why isnt this available?&nbs... Read more

The free upgrade to win 10 pro failed several times.  I checked the web for problems and as a result uninstalled malwarebytes, antivirus, some drivers and some Lenovo stuff that popped up.  Finally the upgrade using the Media tool was successful.  Win 10 pro is now working on the T420.  However, only the Lenovo Companion is installed.  I bought a Yoga with Win10 pro and it came with Lenovo Companion, Settings and Account.  I have been trying to find a way on the Lenovo site to download the Settings and Account programs, but no luck.  Any suggestions?  (Probably a simple solution and I am just missing something obvious....)

Question: Lenovo B590

Hello. I've just bought a Lenovo B590 and it doesn't start. It has no Windows on it but if I introduce the CD it has no reaction to it. When I press the start button it just loads the first screen with Lenovo and it frezees. It says in the corner of the screen "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter button" but when I press Enter it does nothing. What can I do?

Answer:Lenovo B590

hi andrutzik24,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To load a bootable CD you have to change the Boot Priority Sequence,

Just right after you turn on the computer Start hitting F2, and this should bring you to the BIOS UEFI Menu.
go to the Exit tab and select OS Optimize/OS Optimization and select Other OS.

Now go to the Boot TAB or Start Up tab and make sure
Boot mode is on Legacy and if you have Boot Priority Change the value to Legacy First

Now Hit F10 to save your changes and Exit

Turn OFF you computer and Turn it back on then quickly start hitting F12
This should Give you option to select DVD/CD/ODD to boot from it

Best Regards

Answer:lenovo b590 help

hi mrpoochie01,

You can use a migration tool  like Trial of Paragon Home to Migrate all of what's on your HDD.

Things to be aware of
     - The OKR or the Onekey Recovery feature may not on the SSD.
Onekey Recovery is a software to reinstall everything back to it's Factory Image. but the one on the HDD is still active
So If you'll keep the Harddrive as it is after your changed to SSD then this is no problem, Keep the HDD as your backup.

    - To use the Migrate feature  of Paragon it should be installed in the HDD and Youll need to have both of the Drive Present in the Operating system in the HDD booted up.
If you'll use an Msata SSD then no problem

If you'll use a 2.5 SSD as a replacement of the HDD then
This means you'll need to mount the SSD externally with a help of maybe a Caddy or a USB Enclosure.

Regards
Solid Cruver

Question: lenovo b590 mic

Heya guys. just slightly confused here. the mic on my b590 is pretty rubbish (sorry lenovo, but it is). for skype i use a USB one but i record songs quite often and i definitely cannot do that with the internal mic. however if i plug the usb one i cannot record anything. it's as if i don't have a microphone at all. was wondering if there is a solution to this as there is no mic jack? thanks!

Answer:lenovo b590 mic

Hi desperate-julia,

Welcome and Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!

Since the B590 utilizes a Combo Jack, making a single mic or single speaker work may sometimes have incompatibility issues.
I would suggest this article, as this may be the solution to your concern.
You might have to split the connection for you to have a solo mic jack.

Once you plug in an audio jack also ensure that the device gets detected under sound settings and it is set as default.
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)

 Hope this helps,
Cheers!

I have been using this model for around 3 years. Today while working on a presentation in Powerpoint all of a sudden my battery died.......My laptop got shut down.I tried running the laptop by plugging into ac adapter but it wont turn on. The battery indicator on the front panel shows battery icon as orange and even it is not turning up wih ac power. I tried replacing the battery with my friends same laptop model and my laptop started. But the battery was not charging even with the ac power. and even the laptop is not booting with ac power on when i removed the battery. I am just confused what has happend. I consulted the IT Guy of my company who told it might be power problem ( IC must have gone bad ) . Please help me ......  he even told it can also be a motherboard problem..... Pls help asap Thanks in advance Sandeep

Answer:Lenovo N 100 Series Model 0768AQ Model

You need to replace your battery! Please try this:With GOOD battery in and laptop plugged in, boot up and enter bios setup. (F1 key at Lenovo screen)Set to Default. (Exit tab, Load Setup Defaults)Save and Exit.If this does not change anything, enter bios setup again, remove battery, wait 30 seconds, and replace battery.(It is best to do this in bios setup so if it does stop, you are not damaging hard drive.)If it just stops when you remove battery, post back.

Question: Lenovo B590 Memory

First of all, I hope this is the right section for the Lenovo B series laptops, particularly the Lenovo B590. If it's the wrong place I apologize. Does anyone know what RAM is supported in the Lenovo B590? Specifically the 20208 model. I got one of these laptops through my school and it only has 2GB of RAM which simply isn't enough when you are used to a computer rocking 8GB of DDR3 RAM. Does anyone know what the supported RAM specs are for this model Lenovo? I tried to Google it, and I got to Crucials website where they have a set that is 2x4GB, CL11, 1.35v, and 204 pin, which I assumed would be the recommended specs to shoot for, but I wanted to be absolutely positive before I dumped money into some RAM kits. Is Crucial the main RAM supplier for these laptops? Also would memory with a different CL work? I use this computer exclusively for school work, so the cheaper the better for this computer (long as it's of good quality). Does it have to be 1.35v RAM or would 1.5v RAM work as well? I was searching Newegg and found Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model CT2KIT51264BF160B, CL11, 1.35v for $67.99. Would this type of RAM be suppoprted with this laptop? Looks almost identical in terms of specs to the memory on Crucials website for $22 cheaper. There is even cheaper RAM, but it's 1.5v RAM, and I want to make sure I know what will positively work before I drop the money. I'm a noob when it comes to lap... Read more

Hi Giulio,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the Fan is running continuously even if any applications are not used in your B590 Laptop, I suggest you to install the chipset driver and check the issue as the chipset driver makes the integration between the hardware and the OS (Operated System) installed in the computer, below is the link to download the chipset driver according to the model and Type of the B590:

NOTE: Please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the model no. as B590 select the exact model.

hi DarkLegion,

As per these specs, the Ideapad B590 uses a Stereo Headphone output and Microphone input combo jack.

As per this article, you will need a Microphone/Headset splitter / adapter for a headset to work. If you're be using an external monophonic microphone, you will need an extra 3.5mm Stereo male to 3.5mm Mono female adapter.

Sample items:
- 3.5mm Stereo male to 3.5mm Mono female adapter
- 3.5mm Headphone / Microphone adapter / splitter

I have a Lenovo B590 which was working correctly. However, this morning I tried starting it and this is what happens :

The power indicator lits on for about 2 seconds, and the fan starts running. Nothing on the screen. Than, it shuts off. fan stops. For about 2-3 seconds. And then it lites up again. And this sequence repeats itself. I've checked the battery and the charger and they are ok. So, what's next???

I have a Lenovo Laptop B590 Windows 7.The laptop will not charge and when I take the battery out it will not turn on. I called Lenovo support and was told I had to update the bios. I explained that the battery was dead and would not turn up. The man said that I would have to take it to a computer store to have it checked. That there was nothing he could do. I can't update the bios if I cannot get it to turn on. I never received a notice to update the bios. Does anyone know how I can get the laptop to come on? PLEASE HELP, the laptop is only a little over a year old.

Answer:Lenovo B590 Will not charge

Hi Bolyla,

Welcome to the Community,

May I ask how old the battery is? The reason I ask is because it might have essentially died and would probably need to be replaced. Are you still within warranty period? or that is not the case anymore?

Hi, I have a B590, Model: 20206. It has Intel Pentium 2020M 2.4 Ghz CPU, 4 Gb of RAM (1 stick), and a HDD hard drive. 1. I understand I can upgrade the CPU to Intel I5-2520M. However, in one of the previous posts, it was mentioned that: "1. Ensure that you purchase the CPU with the Lenovo FRU # on the box. 2. The significant increase between the stock CPU and the Intel I5-2520M is small. If the upgrade cost of the new CPU is minimal then this would be a good investment in speeding up the machine. " What does Lenovo FRU # mean? Does it have to be a specific number or can any Lenovo FRU work? What if I don't get one with Lenovo FRU? Also, how much boost in performance (in percentage) can I expect by upgrading the CPU? 2. For RAM, my current model uses 1 stick of 4Gb ram, so I can add another stick for 8 Gb total right? I understand the following are the needed specs: PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM SO-DIMM 204-pin. However, I'm not sure what voltage/speed (Mhz) I should get.  I cannot find the voltage or Mhz info for my current RAM. Please advise. 3. For SSD, I believe any 2.5' SSD with 7mm thickness would work right? Thanks

Answer:Lenovo B590 CPU Support

Good day.

Have a look at Intel's HM70 chipset CPU compatibility list: http://ark.intel.com/products/67419/Intel-BD82HM70-PCH#@compatibility
and you'll see the 1000M and 2020M listed, along with other Pentiums, but there are no Core-i CPUs.

Looking at the HM77 chipset CPU compatibility list: http://ark.intel.com/products/64339/Intel-BD82HM77-PCH#@compatibility
is where Core-i CPU support is found.

Almost a year ago now. I had a error for my fan on my lenovo b590 show up, I took it apart. Ordered a new fan from eBay and well it wouldn't fit. It was a little bigger than the old fan. I'm ready to finally fix it again. Can someone give me the link of where to buy a new fan. One that will fit it. On amazon, eBay or another site that is decently priced. I don't want to order another and it not fit. Please and thank you

Answer:Lenovo b590 fan error

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Have you tried doing a search using the part number on your old fan?  The Hardware Maintenance Manual for your model is showing two part numbers for the fan and heat sink assembly.  That may  account for why your first replacement didn't fit.  I am also assuming that you are looking for the fan only without the heat sink.  Here is what is shown on page #85 of the manual....

LB59A Thermal Module UMA W/FAN  90201914
LB59A Thermal Module DIS W/FAN  90201913

My Lenovo B590 was working fine yesterday, today suddenly I can't make it boot up. I have recorded a video that demonstrates the behaviour of the Laptop on Power On:https://youtu.be/T9IcxsIgRcE It remains in an endless loop of powering up for a sec, making some click-sound and turning off immediately. Longpress power button ends the loop. AC cable is connected, battery is inserted. Things I tried that didn't solve the issue:Power On only with AC cable (normally and with 20 sec long Power press)Power On only with battery (normally and with 20 sec long Power press)Removing both RAM and trying it with one each in each of both RAM slotsProbably an issue with the motherboard? Anything else I could try?

Answer:Lenovo B590 not Booting at all

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the problem you are experiencing.  I would try removing the optical drive and then try powering the laptop up.  If that doesn't work then remove the hard drive and power up.  Since the click sounds mechanical in nature, that would lead me to suspect either one of those devices.  If the laptop powers up with a drive removed then suspect that drive as being faulty.

Your model's User Guide will explain how to remove those drives.  Here is a link to that manual for your reference.....

Hello. Yesterday I have dropped my 4 years old Lenovo B590 and I left it alone for a day. Today I'm trying to turn it on and I have a trouble with it. When I do it for the first time it says it does the Automatic Repair and Diagnosing Your PC, and then shows the Automatic Repair blue page with options to Restart and Advanced Oprions. And if I Restart it, it is then stuck on Lenovo first page and does not load further. So then I have to turn it off and on again. And there is Automatic Repair again. So what shall I do? Cause I have a lot of more or less important documents and it would be bad to lose them. Thank you in advance

Answer:Lenovo B590 won't turn on

If you have a data on the hard drive that is important to you, I would take your computer to a reputable local computer shop and have them try to backup your data.    It is possible that the drop damaged the hard drive, but the fact that it tries to boot at very all is a good sign, so there is a good chance that your data can be backed up.  In a worst case scenario, you may have to replace the hard drive (which are not too expensive), but it may be repairable too, but if you data is irreplaceable, I would not touch it until I had a backup in hand. Good Luck,

Question: B590 - Upgrade CPU

Hello, I have a Lenovo B590 with the Intel Celeron 1005M (1,9 GHz) CPU. I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the CPU on this laptop? And what options I have. I understand some Pentiums can be used? So I assume the CPU is not soldered on? The laptop also has Intel HD graphics, is this a sepperate chip soldered onto the motherboard. Or is this built into the CPU? In short, will upgrading the CPU leave me with a "better" version of Intel HD graphics?

Answer:Lenovo B590 wont boot from usb key

hi Hypotaksen,

Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!

Inside BIOS
    Under Boot Tab
          Change Boot mode to Legacy
           USB Boot should be enabled
    Under Security
Secure Boot Has to Be disabled

In case the options above are grayed out in your BIOS, Got to Exit Tab and Change OS Optimized Default to Other OS
and check the options again.

Once All are Set Make sure to save all changed by hitting F10 and enter for Yes
After Hitting enter It will Restart and You have to keep on tapping F12
this should pull up the Boot Menu letting you select where to boot. You should have now your USB Stick as an Option.

Let me know your findings

Hi,

I recently bought Lenovo B590 laptop, installed Windows 8.1 Pro on it, downloaded/installed latest drivers from Lenovo from my laptop. I see a quite a lot blue screen errors. Most likely these started to appear after I installed and played "return to ravenhearst" game. But even I have uninstalled the game I still get the errors.

NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I downloaded test tools (memory, vide, motherboard, pci express) from Lenovo websites but they could not locate any problem (I ran these tests only once for a single pass).

I also executed "sfc /verifyonly" command and it found no problem.

Mini dumps are attached. Can someone please have a look at them and pin point the problem?

Answer:Lenovo B590 various BSOD Windows 8.1

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions Please use Option 1 as it provides Event Viewer logs.

Can you please provide links to the page(s) where you got the Lenovo tests? I'm not familiar with them and would like to see how they compare with the tests I recommend.

For starters:

At work we start all repairs with a set of diagnostics. Often they find problems that weren't even expected. It's a waste of time to try to fix software on a system that has hardware problems.
Please try these free diagnostics for starters: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Also, please ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Out of 5 memory dumps there were 4 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers)
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnost... Read more

Hello! I have NO CLUE where to place my post... but it probably regards to all Lenovo series.  My girlfriend bought herself a Lenovo notebook (I've never had anything to deal with 'em). It's B590 without system. I've installed windows 7 on it and after 30 days it started sayin' that this version isn't genuine or something. So I used windows 7 loader (I'm a bad pirate...) and basically laptop totally started to load further than bios... there's not even Lenovo LOGO loading... just going straight to a question about booting device. I've tried putting windows in CD and still it doesn't work when I pick CDrom option booting. So the question would be - how can I turn on the computer? My girlfriend doesn't want to lose any files so I'd kinda love to simply get to the booting moment and reinstall windows or something. Any ideas? What's funny is the fact that I did exactly the same thing on my DELL laptop and it works like a charm.

Answer:Extreme problem Lenovo B590

Hi Harus3ko,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform you that installing the Non-Genuine OS (Operating System) has caused the issue in the computer as the secure boot option is enabled in the BIOS. I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and BIOS reset. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue
Now access the BIOS menu press F1 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now Click on ?F10? Key to safe the changes that are done in BIOS, restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar
