Older Trackpad driver for B570? (New Synaptics driver doesn't have all settings)

Question: Older Trackpad driver for B570? (New Synaptics driver doesn't have all settings)

Formatting my B570 Laptop I realized that the latest Synaptics driver for my trackpad doesn't contain all of the neccessary settings - Specifically the "slide zone" options are missing (The ones that let's you disable the "slide charm" behavior when you move the finger from the right edge inwards) Does anyone happen to have an older driver lying around for it? The control panel layout has changed - I'm looking for a version that predates their "animated video/image" layout.

Preferred Solution: Older Trackpad driver for B570? (New Synaptics driver doesn't have all settings)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The two latest drivers have broken some functionality, I would like the driver used before April, where do I find it?

I am running the latest build of Windows 10 (build 10240).

Now that release date is coming driver updates are arriving for my laptop (Acer ES1-111M). One of which is for the Synaptics touchpad. When I apply this driver and restart my laptop the trackpad no longer works and the new driver has an error in Device Manager and cannot start.

This device cannot start (error code 10)

The specified request is not a valid operation for the target device.

If I try to update the driver it says the latest version is installed. I have to rollback the driver to the previous one supplied by Microsoft and the trackpad works again, However the entire process repeats when the Synaptics trackpad update is automatically installed again by Windows Update.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks.

I installed and activated Windows 10 on a pair of X-series laptops, an X220 and an X201.  Everything was just fine except that the touchpad does not control the cursor well, either freezing it or bouncing around madly.  I finally solved the problem by changing the UltraNav driver to PS/2 Mouse driver, less functional, but it actually works.  When I ran the Windows 10 update, it reinstalled the UltraNav driver, so I had to revert back to the PS/2 driver and reboot.  (The UltraNav driver downloaded from the Lenovo site is equally defective.) Yes, I know these are older systems, but can't Synaptics do a working driver?  Or maybe Microsoft could install the basic PS/2 Mouse driver as the default?  I must be dreaming.  Anyway, the problem of a properly function touchpad has a solution.

Forgive me for cross-posting, but quite a while ago I asked this on the ThinkVantage Technologies board here and have only gotten "Me Too" adds to the thread. I'm hoping ths board and its moderators may be more responsive. I have the latest Synaptics driver V.16.2.5.0 dated 7/5/2012, installed via System Update on a T520 running Win 7 Pro 64 bit. I prefer to disable the TouchPad and only use the TrackPoint. No matter where I disble the TouchPad, either in the context menu of the notification icon or in the Control Panel Applet, the TouchPad  is always re-enabled on a clean start or re-start. I have manually uninstalled the driver and re-installed the driver to no avail. Since others are having this problem, I was wondering if a fix is in the works.

Answer:Synaptics TrackPoint Driver Does not remember settings.

Yeah I'm having that too with the same driver but on T420s with Win7 64bit Pro also.Fully update etc.

My HP 450 G1 Laptop touchpad doesn't work after upgrading to Windows 10 Creator 4/2017.

I googled and attempted solutions with many times of uninstall/reinstall driver but it still doesn't work.
Here is images about Mouse Setting and Device Manager in my laptop:

There's no Synaptics tab in mouse settings nor Enable option for Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad in Device Manager.

I tried drivers from both HP site or Synaptics site but it cannot help. Moreover, my touchpad doesn't work in Bios mode.

I'm sure that my touchpad hardware still works well. It backed to work one time when I tried to fix this problem 2 weeks ago (don't remember how I fixed in this time). However it doesn't work in next reboot PC till now.
Now I just can use USB mouse only.

Please help me in this case, thanks.

Hi guys, Running the latest driver dated from the 18th of December (16.2.19.2) : http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS019164 Basically for some iterations now the Synaptics driver has been a bit poor, it won't remember settings across *some* reboots with no logic as to which reboots it does lose its settings on.Also and this is my reason for creating a specific post - has anyone else noticed that the driver is initiated right at the end of the boot procedure, I'm sure it was not normally like this, but it now takes some time for my sensitivity settings to be applied and the Ultranav scrolling - some 30-40 seconds after the Desktop has booted in - it seems to load right at the end of the chain. This definitely wasn't the case going back 6 months or so, as I've never noticed or remembered having to wait for the Synaptics part of the mouse driver to load. Is there a fix in the works as this driver has clearly fallen into disrepair recently for the T420s owners (and probably other X2X series owners). Am I the only one experiencing lagging of the driver being fully functional after boot ? I've completely wiped the driver from my system purged the inf files from the windows system area and re-installed from scratch but it's still the same. Any feedback or discussion on this point would be great. I see others have some success loading the generic drivers from the Synaptic website, this is ideally not a route I wan... Read more

I have a L530. Because the latest UltraNav driver is such a pain in the derriere (when I wake up the computer from sleep or hibernation, the UltraNav settings in Mouse properties turn gray, and they reset themselves.  I turned off tap to click, but whenever the settings go gray, it undoes this), I uninstalled it and tried reinstalling the latest version on Lenovo's website (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS028996).  That didn't make the graying issue go away, so I instead installed the latest Synaptics driver found here: http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers However I ran into an issue when I couldn't see all the settings in Mouse properties (see here: http://i.imgur.com/7gVClYb.png).  There definitely are more settings than this (i.e. options to disable tap to click, among others).  How do I view all the settings?  Also if there are suggestions for drivers that allow me to access all the settings (and don't undo themselves), what are they? Thanks!

Hello,I have installed touch pad drivers for Synaptics TouchPad V7.5 (port PS/2) on Lenovo G580 with system Win 7 Ultimate x64. There is one irritating default behavior that I can change in the settings. Unfortunately, when I restart the computer, it forgets about my changes in the settings. I need to enter Control Panel -> Mouse and that's it - everything I need for driver to remember again about my settings. What can I do in order not to be forced to enter Control Panel -> Mouse every single restart of the system?I include two print screens, where I have fixed that setting (later restarts it's enough for me to do what is on first screen shot, I do not need to follow step in second screen shot - it was only required the very first time when I have set it). Thanks in advance for your help!First screen shot:

On my 2nd generation X1 Carbon I could click and drag by pressing down on the bottom portion of trackpad and then moving my finger around (as if there was a button down there). On my new 2nd gen X1 Yoga this doesn't work. I can only drag by pressing down and moving my finger while pressing, which is very clunky and annoying. Is there a reason why the new trackpad doesn't work like the old one? I put both models side by side and verified this.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.

Ha!  Fixed it!   Okay, so it seems the driver likes to have SP1 installed. Yes, that is pretty obvious, but in my defence Windows update was telling me that all updates had been applied.  That was because I hadn't got around to putting in my windows licence key, I think.  Why hadn't I done that?  Because its one of lots of things to do when setting up the laptop that could potentially be wasted effort when I tried to install the video driver and it BSOD on boot again. Anyway, fixed.   Rotty

Upon recieving my X1 Yoga OLED, I had an issue where every time I woke the computer from sleep or switched to tablet mode, the display would flicker black a few times and the computer would sometimes restart. I'd get a critical event, kernel event 117. A little research led me to update the display driver. It was already up to date, but reinstalling the Intel display driver fixed the issue. Soon after, I noticed that changing thecolor settings made no change to the display. I knew it worked prior to reinstalling the display driver. As advised in another thread here, I reinstalled the system interface foundation driver (again, was originally up to date), and this fixed the color settings issue. However, the original issue came back! I'd obviously rather have the display working properly, so I again reinstalled the display drivers. Sure enough, the color setting issue is back. Seems like these two drivers aren't playing well together. Any ideas on how to get around this? Thanks.

Hey guys, I received my brand new B570 Ideapad today, and after 30 minute of fidgeting I realised a big problem. Basically, everytime i press a button, it be the letter 'a', '2', space, backspace or enter etc....  there is a 0.8 sec interval before the cursor can actually move again (trackpad doesn't work while a key is down but it should), or the other way around, if i was randomly moving the mouse cursor everywhere then i pressed a key, it would stop for 0.8 secs before moving again. Lets put it in a gaming example: I was playing Doom 3, W A S D keys are the movement keys, W and S being move forward and backwards; once you press on either forward or backwards the trackpad doesn't work, until you release W or S for 0.8 secs, same with A and D keys, so basically you have to walk like a crab in the game. Is this a known fault? Is this a valid reason for a return? Any feedback/help appreciated! P.S. My old laptop was a G series and it didn't have this problem so very curious!

Hi,

I was wondering if Toshiba could explain their choice here.

My laptop recently got sent in for repair because it burnt itself out due to me using Nvidias own drivers on my p100-240 (pspa3e).

The problem here is that:

a) Toshibas drivers for this card are well over a year old and sometimes buggy in new games
b) Toshiba does not seem to have followed the Nvidia spec (that or there is a major ACPI issue in their bios...)

so, Upon using the Nvidia drivers the laptops fan does not kick in, sending the systems temporature up to 106cand finally turning it off. It turned back on but basic graphics acceleration then failed to work.

SO, can we get an updated driver build? OR some kind of fan control app? or can you update your bios to enable nvidias drivers to function?

I feel like I cannot use my laptop for its purpose at the moment- I have reverted to installing a non-ACPI pc driver to force the fans to stay on which works well but then basic system functions like turn off do not work.

I have also been advised that this design flaw could be considered to make the system "not fit for purpose" under which case I could just return the laptop under the Sale of Goods act.

Though really, i'd just like to get my system working properly. It's bad enough not being able to run Linux on it, but even worse that windows doesnt work properly with it with official drivers.

One final question: Can I get the older BIOSes? several fixes work with them but n... Read more

Answer:P100-240: Toshiba GPU driver is old, Nvidia driver doesn't enable the fan?

Hi

>was wondering if Toshiba could explain their choice here.
If you want to hear anything from Toshiba then you have to contact them. This forum is only a user to user forum and unfortunately you will not find anyone from Toshiba here.

But maybe you want to hear my opinion;

>My laptop recently got sent in for repair because it burnt itself out due to me using Nvidias own drivers on my p100-240 (pspa3e).
>a) Toshibas drivers for this card are well over a year old and sometimes buggy in new games
Well, many Toshiba notebooks are delivered and equipped with the same graphic cards. Maybe you have to look in other notebook series which are delivered with the same card for a newer GPU driver.
But, you are right and generally the Toshiba graphic drivers are a little bit older as the original one from GPU manufacturer.
Why? First of all the nVidia or ATI original drivers are not designed for the notebook usage. These are drivers for desktop PC graphic cards. I visited the area for mobile drivers and found a info that I have to look on the notebook manufacturer site!!! This said everything!!!!

>b) Toshiba does not seem to have followed the Nvidia spec (that or there is a major ACPI issue in their bios...)
As mentioned above the original GPU drivers are not designed for the notebook usage.
Why? Because the notebook GPUs cannot be cooled like the graphic cards for the desktop PC!!!
The Toshiba own drivers support an overheating protection which helps t... Read more

The two finger scrolling on my Synaptics touchpad sometimes gets "lost" after coming back from Sleep mode (it does not work).  Rebooting corrects the issue temporarily, but I would like to resolve it permanently.  I believe this is a driver problem.  I have already uninstalled the hardware from Device Manager (without removing the driver), and this has not corrected the issue.  That said, on the Y40 downloads page there is only a Windows 7 driver listed (the laptop came with 8.1 pre-installed).  This driver has a newer release date than the one I have installed. Can I use this driver despite the OS inconsistency?

Answer:Y40 Synaptics Driver

I'm not sure if the Win 7 drivers can be used for Windows 8.1.You can give it a try. Should not cause much problem even if it's not compatible. In the meantime, let me check with eSupport team for Windows 8.1 drivers.

Hi! So a few hours ago I went to play a game (Blacklight Retribution) and when I pressed any key down and tried to look around I couldn't look around. I've ran into this problem before and easily fixed it. So I went to Control Panel, searched "Mouse" then clicked on Mouse settings. What I saw was this.... Screenshot by Lightshot. Iclicked yes the first time and tried installing the Windows 8 Synaptics Driver Again... It worked. But I still got the same error when going to Mouse Settings. This time I clicked no and received this... Screenshot by Lightshot. So for quite some time after this I was confused on what to do. To relieve my mind I tried playing another game (Planetside 2) and didn't have the problem I had with Blacklight. (This problem is fixed now) But what was annoying me was whenever I brushed just a hair on the trackpad it made me click which made me shoot! Now I go back to the Mouse Setting and browse through it and don't see anything helpful. I decided to look at Device Manager and look to see what was under the Mouse area. I found this... Screenshot by Lightshot. That has nothing to do with the original or Synaptics driver I just installed! So If I can please get some help on how to get my Synaptics Driver back so I can change my mouse settings that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and upgraded my synaptics driver to their windows 10 version. Only trouble is the little red light in the corner is always on. The light is only supposed to come on if the trackpad has been disabled but the trackpad is working and the light is on. On top of that the double tap the corner function that turns the trackpad on and off doesn't seem to be an option with this version of the driver.

I managed to find a registry hack to get chiral scrolling to work again but can't seem to find/enable the corner double tap and rid myself of this stupid light.

ETA: Okay weirder still the light is reversed, when I plug in my USB mouse the light goes out and the trackpad is disabled.

I recently formatted my Xnote laptop. The synaptics driver was reset to its original state. The scroll is too jumpy for me, and I tried to update my driver, by going to Drivers | Synaptics. All the download links seem to be broken. How can I get the newest version of the synaptics touchpad driver?

Answer:Can't download synaptics driver!

Best place to look for drivers is the PC Vendor and not the actual device manufacturer. Sometimes the non PC vendor drivers will not work correctly as many PC vendors do custom impementations of the hardware.

I'm having a problem where my mouse doesn't move while a key is pressed. In Settings>Mouse & Touchpad, under the "touchpad" heading, the "Delay before clicks work after typing (paraphrased)" settings is set to No Delay (always on). From the above screen>Additional mouse settings>smartsense>settings cog next in smartsense bar:The top setting is all the way left on the "off" selection of a ticked bar.The second bar labeled "tapping disabled time after keystroke" is all the way left. The third bar labeled "pointing disabled time after keystroke" is all the way left. The first top bar being set to "off" causes the bottom half of the setting screen to be grayed out. From the searching I did, apparently the settings are correct(?), but it's not disabling the feature.A solution that worked for a few people was to install a previous driver and set it to not automatically update it. After a good bit of searching around on this very confusing-to-me site, I was unsuccessful at finding the driver I need. My current driver installed is:Synaptics TouchPad Driver (Windows 10 v1607)19.3.11.37 Rev. I installed on a U350 Win7 64-bit the new Synaptics driver, v15.2.7 which have Scrybe Gesture Workflow Technology. I restarted the system and saw that the touchpad was working OK, except Scrybe software which does not work at all, launching any of the programs/internet shortcuts. So I uninstalled the driver and I'm looking only for the Synaptics driver, not bundled with Scrybe software. Do you have a download link for 64-bit please? Thanks.

I successfully upgraded yesterday from 8.1 and this morning I was looking at the new "desktop switcher." I was looking for an OSX style touchpad gesture to switch between them. I followed the instructions on the second part of Get Mac-Like Scrolling and Gestures on a Windows Laptop to try and get a custom synaptics driver working. In the course of this, I uninstalled the factory synaptics drivers using "Programs and Features" in the control panel. When trying to install the new custom drivers, I got the error:

"A newer version of the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver is installed.

If you want to install the older version of the Driver, please uninstall the current Synaptics driver by selecting "Synaptics Pointing device" from the "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel, then run Setup again."

At this point, my touchpad no longer works at all. So I tried to restore the driver to what it was originally.

My first thought was to get windows update to update it for me. I got "Lenovo synaptics touchpad driver" to appear in the list of updates. When trying to update, it threw the error:
"Synaptics driver update for Lenovo Pointing Device - Error 0x80070002"

After rebooting and attempting again with no success, I turned to Lenovo's website. I found the support page for my device:

So I just downloaded and installed Windows 8.1 for my Lenovo B570. After a TON of hurdles, everything is finally up and running. I installed the Synaptics drivers from the official Lenovo page for my laptop, but after installing, it shows that the drivers are an "Evaluation Copy". There are settings, but there are FAR less customizable settings than there were on Win7.  Are there any other synaptics drivers out there that will give me more settings? I tried the generic one direct from the Synaptics site but they won't install at all. Thanks!

Answer:B570 update to Win8.1, Synaptics Drivers are an "Evaluation Copy"?

Hi Caseyls,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that there are fewer options in Touchpad feature as the Windows 8.1 drivers from Synaptics are not newly updated and the only available option is to wait for the updates for Windows 8.1 version from synaptics.

Do post us back for further queries

Hi!Since I updated last week my Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav, my trackpad sometimes hangup. The driver installed was: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t44... I have the PC for more than 1 year and never notice this behavior. It works OK for sometime but other times the trackpad doesn't work at all and the only that is working is the red button.I notived this behavior in 3 differnt systems in my company recently uptaded to this driver: - T440s with Win7_x64              (20ARA.....)- T440s with Win8.1_x64           (20ARA.....)- X1 Carbon with Win8.1_x64   (344.....) Can you pls investigate and release a new version asap.  BR,Tomaz.

Answer:Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver

Yep, there is definitely a bug with the 18.0.7.103 version of the driver on a T440s. I had to rollback to 18.0.7.57 in order to fix it.The issue (hang up) happens when my laptop wakes up from sleep. I have to restart in order to bring back the trackpad. It's a shame that more than 3 months later this driver is still being offered to T440s users via System Update app and has not being fixed.

Touchpad just stopped working while I was using it. Here's what's going on:

Fn + F7 does nothing
Synaptics ps/2 Port Touchpad shows in Device manager, however it is hidden and has a yellow exclamation point. Error code: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24).

I have updated the drivers from the Gateway website by first uninstalling the drivers that were present. No go. I then updated the drivers from the synaptics website via the same method, nothing. I've tried searching for a driver via device manager....nothing.

As I mentioned, I tried Fn+F7 and nothing happened. Also I notice that the driver software is not loading in the tray like it used to and I can't even make it run by trying to open the .exe file.

Any ideas? I've been searching for an answer for this for a while with no luck.

I attempted to disable the pointing device (touch pad) on the keyboard since I'm using an external mouse and I often make the mouse move with my wrists leaning on the touch pad. The first thing I disabled was the touch screen driver. I re-enabled that OK. But when I un-installed the driver for what was called the Synaptics touch pad, the touch pad remained operational. So I don't know what I un-installed, and I cannot get the system to recognize any new hardware with a hardware scan. Was the Synaptics touch pad driver something extraneous that isn't used? Thanks for your help. Lee

Answer:Synaptics Pointing Device Driver

Sound like the driver may not be properly installed. First check Device Manager to see if it's working OK (Start...Run...type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. See if the device has a red x or yellow ! by it.

You can go to the HP site and download updated drivers for the touchpad if need be.

Then, check in Control Panel for the Mouse or Pointing Device option - then open it to see if the rest of the software is functioning correctly.

Finally, ensure that any switches that may enable this are turned on (there may not be a switch - I'm unsure about HP laptops). But I had a similar problem with a touchpad that took 2 hours to solve - and all it was was that the switch was off!

The touchpad on my HP G62 laptop was less responsive than normal. I tried changing the properties with no improvement. So I went to HP help and noticed that there was a driver update for this device. So I ran the update. Then the touchpad barely worked at all and a notice box said the driver was incompatible with current system. The advice on the web included more than one remark advising to not bother with the Synaptics website as it is unreliable. I did it anyway. Synaptics recognised I had a legal copy of Windows 7 Home and I downloaded the suggested driver. Which actually was a new version entirely. Now the pad is back to life just like old times. The HP update was outdated. Every time I have used any HP updates I run into problems. I suggest HP users forget all about the "Support Assistant" and seek more credible update sources. Thnx, gnuguy.

I own a Toshiba laptop that has served me very well since I bought it right after Windows 8 was released. However, every now and then the touchpad simply stops working. For a long time I've been trying to find a solution, but never cared enough to do major research. The basic features work; one finger for pointing, two finger tap for right click, double tap to drag. However, no gestures work. I can't scroll using the touchpad, I can't swipe from the right for Charms, and I can't swipe from the left for recent apps. Finally I noticed that every time these issues arise, Synaptics Pointing Device Driver, which always sits in my system tray, vanishes. I did a system check and it's nowhere on my computer. There is program data in my hard drive, but nothing else. It's like it no longer exists. However, it's still in my "Programs and Features" where I can uninstall it. Any help would be appreciated.

Go to control panel & program and feature option and search for Alps driver and Synaptics application and uninstall it and restart the system.
Go to device manager and expand mouse & other pointing device and uninstall it the entire adapter from there and restart the system and check if the issue still persists?

Hope this helps.

This is now the third forum I have posted to regarding this issue.I've been to Sevenforums and to the HP forums.I don't know how/when this happened (because I rarely restart my pc) but,I recently had to restart after some updates and after restarts now it seems that I have to physically load the Synaptics touchpad driver in order for things like (in particular) two finger scrolling) to work.

I uninstalled the Synaptics driver (because Synaptics site has a newer version.HP,so far, isn't supporting the new one). I was instructed to restart the pc after uninstalling the old driver and before installing the new one. That's when the problems started. After booting to the Windows login screen, the keyboard became disabled and I was unable to use the pc.

I've done a system restore and all is back to normal. But,I'm still left with the original problem (having to physically load the Synaptics software because it's not loading itself). Have any of you ever experienced this problem and if so,how did you remedy this situation ?

Honestly...if you have an HP system...you should get your drivers for basic functions from the HP website.  Theoretically, all drivers for a specific item SHOULD be useable...but "should" is a word that often does not apply to OEM systems, IMO.

Okay, on my laptop, the process SynTPEnh.exe governs the touchpad. For some reason, after my laptop has been on for a while, the process quits. If i restart the process, it usually closes again within 15 seconds of the process being restarted. Does anybody have any insight about what causes this and how it can be stopped?

Also, after i restart the computer, SynTPEnh.exe stays on for a while and the cycle i described previously continues.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y510P with Windows 8.1. For months or longer, I have been having an issue with the touchpad software. After days of use it will stop responding to advanced commands like two finger scrolling unless I restart the computer. If I try to access the icon in the right corner on the taskbar, the application will not open. It cannot be right clicked. If I try too much the taskbar freezes. I tried to access Mouse in control pad - no response, I couldn't access it. I tried to look for updates for the driver and it would always say it is totally updated or when I manually download one it would say that it is already installed or something.

So today I decided I would fix this problem. I uninstalled the application, and removed the driver in the Drivers section in control panel. I downloaded the program again from the Synaptics site for my computer and tried to install.

The message: "A previous version of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is installed. If you continue installation, the driver may not install properly. To avoid this problem, press 'No' to exit setup...

I never pressed no the multiple times I tried to install and install would always fail after about 15 seconds. I then looked for traces of Synaptics on my computer in Program Files and Driver folder. Deleted all Synaptics folders and emptied recycling bin.

Problem still persists. Need help. I rebooted my computer a couple times along the way, but not after I deleted those folder... Read more

Hi There,

I have a synaptics touchpad driver installed on my laptop it is listed in my mouse options under devices settings as "Synaptics Pointing Device - v25.0.4" and under devices in the same tab the name is listed as "Synaptics touchpad v7.2".

The problem I am having is that in the devices settings tab I have checked the box that says "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing devices is attached" because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing. Problem is that when I want to use the touchpad and unplug the mouse, the touchpad will work fine until I shut down the computer. On startup (whether clean boot or restoring from standby) the touchpad will no longer work (with or without a mouse connected). When this happens I have tried a fresh reboot of the laptop, but the problem remains. I have tried reconnecting my mouse before shutting down or closing the lid of my laptop but the problem persists. Some times when using the touchpad the power cord on my laptop unplugs and when I plug it back in the touchpad no longer works, yet when I unplug the cord it will work again. I don't get any error messages when any of these things happen, they just happen without warning.
When I go into my mouse settings and go to the device settings tab, the devices list is now empty and all other options are greyed out, including the check box to disable the touchpad when a mouse is connec... Read more

Answer:Synaptics touchpad driver keeps breaking

Quote:
because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing

That's a fairly common issue and my wife and daughter solved it by getting Toshiba Notebooks that have a switch between the touchpad and the keyboard to turn the touchpad off, both use a external mouse. The problem stems from the sensitivity of the touchpad and where a person's thumbs want to rest while typing. Adding to the problem is the type of touchpad that has the vertical and horizontal scroll areas.

I'd go into Device Manager and uninstall both instances for the touchpad and reboot, should install the drivers again, handy when an installation gets corrupted.

Yesterday my touchpad was suddenly turned on and I tried to disable it with the settings I always used (configuration screen) However, when i tried to open the control zone for it, it told me it couldn't connect to the driver. I decide to try and reinstall the driver, but it said another driver was already on my computer. I could delete it within the program files on the configuration screen, but there was nothing. So I couldn't deinstall it at all. Its really annoying because I never use my touchpad and my hand keeps brushing over it, so my mouse or text keeps going away.  Please I would like a solution. I can add files to what my screen keeps saying; but it's all in dutch. (Also my smart connect technology keeps flashing a yellow triangle and I have no idea what I have to do against that)

Hi, I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite a100. I was wondering where I could download a driver for Synaptics touchpad that works? I have a Dell laptop running Windows 64 Home. This was new in November of 2011. After receiving it, I went through the tedious task of updating it via MS Update. I noticed after upgrading, the mouse started behaving very strangely where it would take off and shutter, not respond or be very slow to respond. Contacted Dell and they had me turn off a bunch of stuff on the Dell Touchpad app. This helped but did not fix the issue. I ended up re-installing the OS and made sure the drivers were installed in the correct order using the drivers disk supplied by Dell. Haves since installed the most current driver provided by Dell on their website 15.3.2.1 (April 2011). There continues to be issues with the mouse freezing from time to time. I looked at other threads and removed the Tap to Click feature. There is not much left on and the problem persists.

Dell wants $129 to re-install the OS and drivers, but I really don't think that will make a difference. I think there is some pretty whacky stuff with the Synaptics driver for this mousepad and looks like many other manufacturers.

Has anyone tried contacting Synaptics to see what they have to say about it?

Hi Ehickey,

My name is George from Dell Social Media Team. You can try this link to download the appropriate touchpad drivers for your computer Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]
1. Put in the service tag or by selecting the model of your computer and then choose the operating system.
2. After choosing the right operating system drop down INPUT and then download the drivers for touchpad. Be cautious to choose the updated driver
3. Install downloaded driver and then restart your computer.

Hey

First off i apologize for me not being very computer savvy

I have bought a Lenovo Z50-70. Before that i had a (i believe - i can't really find out the exact model, sadly) G510. They both use Synaptics touchpads i understand.

Now, i liked the feel of the old touchpad better than what i feels like on the new one. So i was wondering if i can somehow install the driver from the old G510 on the Z50-70 to get the same feel. The Z50 driver makes the finger to screen movement non-linear where the G510 was linear which i prefer

Thanks in advance

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit system, and have used it for over a year with no problems. This problem started kinda weird out. I was watching a movie, and I paused it to go take a smoke. I came back five minutes later and now I couldn't move the cursor from the touchpad, or barely. I tried deleting the synaptics driver and installing the latest version quite a few times. Here's the thing though, the touchpad works without the driver, though sometimes left click, and right clicking doesn't work, however I'm still able to move the cursor. When I install the synaptics touchpad driver left click and right click works, but I am not really able to move the cursor. I can see the touchpad respons to the pressure of my fingers moving across it, but it doesn't move the cursor along the screen or only a small amount.  I have tried different prressures on the touchpad, but with no luck. The problem occurred a few hours ago.

Toshiba released an updated Synaptics touch pad driver yesterday that fixed my scrolling issues:

I had 2-finger scroll but not 1-finger scroll. I tried a solution of adding a DWORD to the registry that did not work (and I won't repost here since it didn't work).

The file is 168 MB so...it may take awhile to download. A reboot is required.

Good luck,

I guess this is simple enough. I was looking through the Synaptics site and of course they have a newer driver version. But I didn't just install that right away. I checked the driver update page for the Y500 and also my installed driver and it appears that there is a newer version on my machine than is available on the download page. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with either the Synaptics site drivers or the download page drivers. In particular I was hoping to find the side scrolling feature where you can scroll using the side of the touchpad instead of being forced to use two fingers. Yes I am that lazy. Otherwise I will just leave well enough alone.

Hi folks,

I just upgraded my father-in-law's HP G70 laptop to Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. It is relatively new but had Vista on it. It was an "upgrade" and it appears to have preserved everything pretty well. A large number of updates have ben applied successfully via Windows Update. But -

There's a "virtual scrolling" feature on the trackpad, which no longer works. All the Point Device Properties applet choices seem to be correct... I am not sure why it doesn't work. Anyone got any similar experiences or theories why it wouldn't work?

I have a very old laptop we are running W8RP on (Dell Inspiron 1520).. I updated the synaptics driver, and now I have multi-touch! Plus, now I can swipe in from left/right and we get last program/charms.. I'm still trying to figure out pinch-to-zoom, but this is great.. It's not a touchscreen, but certainly breathes new life into it..

Answer:Update Synaptics driver: multitouch!

Yes, enjoy the Scrybe which is a nice addition, you can go in to it's properties and customize for your needs, I prefer an older driver for my Acer laptop

The pointing device in question is the touchpad and the left and right clicking buttons on your laptop so it's probably better to go to the manufacturer's site and find the right driver.

Hi everyone.
I want to turn off Palm Check in my laptop, because it doesn't allow me to use keyboard and touchpad in the same time.
I have Synaptics drivers (latest ver. v19_0_19_1__C) on my Lenovo Z50-70, Windows 10 x64 Pro, fresh install.
I cant move the slider in the Synaptics driver menu, neither can i find the option to turn it off in windows' settings section. I simply dont have that option in the menu (maybe the most recent versions of windows dont have it? The tutorials were kinda outdated).
What can i do in this situation? I looked for something appealing in Regedit, but no luck. Anyone have any idea what to do?

PS. I also have Ubuntu on dualboot, but i doubt the problem is connected.
Also, screenshots of the menus i mentioned:

I currently created a new user account in XP in order to circumvent a couple of problems i was having with my touchpad/trackstick combo on my laptop. I removed some dead reg keys with RegCleaner before deleting the old user account. Now with the new account my Touchpad isnt acting right...it doesnt even have the proper driver installed.
I have tried to reinstall the driver but i get an Access Denied error...and its still listed in the Add/Remove programs list. Any attempts says itll remove when i restart, but it doesnt.
So i cant Install/Uninstall the driver, and its not working properly, what am I supposed to do?

Answer:Synaptics (IBM Ultranav) driver problem

This is the error it shows me from the installer.

Also I should add that i have administrator rights on the computer with this user account.

Answer:synaptics pointing device driver?

The pointing device driver...allows notebook users to use that small area on the laptop...in the same way that some use a mouse.

Me, I prefer a mouse. Sooo...if I remove mine from my laptop, there's no impact. If I used that area on the laptop, I would not remove the drivers for it, unless I thought that the drivers were damaged and needed to be replaced.

Chances are, replacement drivers are available for download at the website of the laptop manufacturer.

hi guys

I recently got hit by the Peacom virus.. where wincom32.sys is the culprit.. i was gettinig BSOD like ****.. after investigating, using windbg, research etc etc.... i confirmed that the BSOD is being caused by the wincom32.sys driver, which actually is the Peacom virus.. the virus itself is does not cause BSOD error by design, but KASPERSKY has killed this virus, and its files etc.. however, there seem to be a device driver instruction or setting still left in the system.. because in the BSOD the faulting module is:

wincom32.sys

I have REMOVED/UNINSTALLED this device already from the device manager, issuing first:

RUN> set dvcmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
RUN> dvcmgmt.msc

locating the wincom32 entry and successfully uninstalling it..

but.. IM STILL GETTING THE DARN BSOD! the debug info is still reporting wincom32.sys as the culprit..

so i searched the registries for "wincom32" entry... none found..

what's weird also is the faulting module, as shown in winDBG, is located in

\??\C:\WINDOWS\system32\wincom32.sys

take note of the highlighted..

\??\C:\WINDOWS\system32\wincom32.sys

what does that mean? where is this windows "instruction"? so i can KILL IT ONCE AND FOR ALL!

please advice. .

Answer:how to find and remove DRIVER and DRIVER SETTINGS

No idea, all I can suggest is take out your system restore and delete all instances of wincom32.sys from your drive.
if you're unlucky you may have a rootkit but I don't think Peacom includes a proper rootkit but this smells of one.

Hello,
I just bought a refurbished Asus S56C (running windows 8) to use at work at although the trackpad works, it is not very pleasant.
I have adjusted the settings as much to my liking as possible but the vertical scrolling is jerky and it often misses the two finger tap for 'right click' gesture.
The current driver is up to date, I read that some Asus use Elan and some Synaptics trackpad software but mine just seems to be signed as Asus. I've attached a screenshot of the driver details as they are now.
Is it possible to download a better driver that would make the trackpad a bit more user friendly?
Thanks very much

Answer:Better Trackpad Driver

Look for/use the latest version provided by Asus.

The only recommended place to get laptop drivers is from the manufacturer.

Hi,

When I press a key, I can not use my left click at the same time, and I need to wait like 0,5s after releasing the key to be able to use the left click.

I guess it's some feature from Synaptics touchpad drivers. Unfortunately I do not have the Synaptics Control Panel app. I have some kind of control panel from Dell that allow me to change few features on my touchpad, but the one I'm looking for is definitely missing.

I also had a problem where my touchpad wouldn't let me move the cursor while pressing any key. Similar problem. I fixed it by changing some values on Regedit for Synaptics.

Do you know which value I need to change on Regedit to fix my left click problem ? Is there some options on Windows that would allow me to do the same, without touching anything to Synaptics ?

Thank you a lot in advance !
OS : Windows 10.0.15063 Build 15063
Laptop model : Alienware 17 R4
Synaptics driver version : 19.2.17.59 (up to date)
EDIT: Here is how looks like the panel I have where I can change few features about my touchpad :

Also, for those who would ask me to change a feature in "Mouse & Touchpad". I actually searched for it, It's not available for me.

Hey, guys. I've upgraded my G470 to windows 8 and, since that, the Synaptics driver is not working anymore. Everytime I install the driver, I recieve this message (found it on the internet, from a person with the same problem): http://www.eightforums.com/attachments/f1/f23/14560d1357816078-unable-connect-synaptics-pointing-dev...  "Unable to connect to synaptics pointing device driver". Then, I have to uninstall it, loosing all it's functions. I've tried to upgrade to the latest version (16.3.8.8), but it didn't work. Is there a way to fix it? Thanks.

FYI,

The URL below states that the driver being installed is 19.3.4.17

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-P-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-P70...

However, the actual driver which is installed by the package is: 19.3.4.37! This is not the first time where the package description(s) are inconsistent with the contents.

[Solution] I recently updated my computer with the anniversary update from windows have suggest it bricked something.I simply updated to newest BIOS version and the problem solved itself

I have an MSI GT70. Everything works great with Windows 10, except for the touchpad. The latest synaptics driver that windows 10 installs or the one that can be fetched direct from synaptics does not work properly. When it is installed the touchpad misses all the major features, like two finger scroll and pinch to zoom. However, the last available driver supplied by MSI for Windows 8, works absolutely perfectly on windows 10. That is until, two or three reboots later when it updates it to the latest software.

I already tried disabling the installation of drivers through the device manager but the damn thing still updates the synaptics software.

I have searched exhaustively and short of blocking the updates in my firewall (somehow) OR going back to windows 8, I have no idea how to make this madness stop.

Has anyone dealt with this before?

Answer:Windows 10 keeps updating my synaptics driver\software

I've dealt with this issue on mt own personal PC before, I deal with a number of people daily where Microsoft's attempt at automated driver updates is an issue.

On release there was a way to disable automatic driver updates but still keep Windows updates functioning normally, I've noticed that since the Anniversary Update this process is no longer quite as simple.

This site was referenced by rezerekted in another thread on a similar topic, perhaps see if there's anything here that may help in gaining a little more control over Windows update? As always, when modifying the OS via third party utilities, use at your own risk.

Hi, I'm own an Aspire V3-572G-77S8 with windows 8.1 running on it. I have installed all of the drivers from the acer support web. Everything is working great but the touchpad. It seems impossible to install correctly any driver wether Synaptics or Elantech. When I install it (synaptics driver version 18.1.2.1). verything seems to be fine, but the mouse doesn't use the new driver, it's like I haven't installed anything and it uses the generic one by windows. I've tried disbling the sign driver feature on windows8.1, and forcing to use the synaptics driver on the device manager but when I do that the pointer dissappears, and the mouse doesn't work propperly. Also I've downloaded previous version of the drivers from acer and the generic from the synaptics driver. Nothing works. Please, what can I do? I'd love to have the drivers workig to set up my mouse preferences and enabling the 3 and 4 fingers gestures (on windows 7 in this computer worked great!) Greetings from Spain

tom118,

It sounds like this system shipped with Windows 8.1. A lot of our newer systems come with the Microsoft Precision touchpad.

Hi, I just downloaded the new driver for the Synaptics Touchpad from the Lenovo website http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS037924 This file creates a folder with the setup programs containing the drivers. At the end of the installation, it asks me if I want to run the installation software for the Synaptics driver. I click "Yes", and nothing happens. I go inside the created folder and click Setup, and nothing. I go to the Synaptics folder, which contains a Septup application, but nothing comes up. Any ideas? Thanks,

Due to some issues after the WIndows 10 Home upgrade I've done a clean install of Windows 10 on my R7-371T. Everything works perfect except for the touchpad. It works but every now and then it seems to be laggy and present me with beeps. Especially right after startup (probably caused by many things happening at the same time causing the lag). Not BIOS beeps, but through the normal audio channels. If I mute sound, the beeps are not heard. Are there more with this issue and have ideas to get rid of that? The Windows 10 clean install is on completely emptied harddisk, all settings at default and after install I've installed each and every driver update as offered by Acer.

Answer:R7-371T Windows 10 Synaptics Driver gives beeps

Can't be 100% but I chnaged a few things last night and so far so good. Of the things I tried I believe the following was the most likely solution, would be interested if it works for anyone else.... Through the ACER care centre app, choose the tune up app and in the "start up" section disable both of the following Realtec HD Audio ManagerHD Audio background proc... Restart the laptop, which will mean the 2 FMAPP processes associated with these applications aren't runnung after the restart. See how that goes... by the way sound stll works The other 2 things I did was to disable cortana and uninstall the Intel Driver App. But as said I suspect the above most likely made the difference...

Hello, last week I bought a brand new Yoga 2 13".It came with Windows 8.1 preinstalled and I immediatly upgraded it to Windows 10 (after the update I did a clean install).Everything work flawlessly... except for a "little" issue: when I cold boot the computer and I get to Windows 10 lock screen, if I try to unlock the screen by touching or clicking the touchpad (Synaptics) 8 out of 10 times I get a windows blue screen (DCP_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION).When the computer reboots, if I'm lucky I can touch the touchpad and login but if not I get another blue screen. Usually at the third reboot everything goes fine. The problem seems to happen more frequently at first boot anyway. After I manage to login everything works perfectly, not a single issue. After a lot of investigations I figured out that if at lock screen I don't touch the touchpad but I unlock by using the keyboard (or an external mouse if connected), things works as expected without any BSOD.I even booted a Linux distro to be sure, and with that I can use the touchpad whenever I want without any troubles. So, given these evidences it must be a problem with Synaptics Touchpad drivers... I'm actually using version 19.0.13.0 that I got through Windows Update, which is the same version for Windows 10 available at Lenovo Support Site for my model.I have used Windows 8.1 for just few minutes, so I'm not sure if it has the same issue (even tried another Win 10 clean install). Has anyone faced the same problem? Is there a fix for t... Read more

Answer:Yoga 2 + Win10 + Synaptics driver = BSOD

A small update 15 days later... Although the issue seems to happen more frequently at lock screen, I experienced few random BSOD even during normal usage (and as a coincidence they happend immediately after touching touchpad). Proably this model is not "really" Windows 10 ready (yet). I don't know if this happens in Windows 8.1 to but I don't want to waste time rolling back to it and hoping it will work... so I ended up installing Ubuntu 15.04: I've been using it for a week now and everything seems to be working flawlessly.
