Preferred Solution: my lenovo g460 internal speakers are not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: my lenovo g460 internal speakers are not working

hi arjunkanda,

Can you try Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Audio Driver,

Open Device Manager and look under sound and gaming controller for WIN7 and Audio input for WIN8/8.1
Look for something says Conexant, and uninstall it.
Place a check if you're prompted of "Delete driver software for this device"

Then install a audio driver from this download link of your system and install it.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT072732

See if that works,
If not then, Im thinking a connection problem of the Speakers,

You can check your system's Maintenance Manual to check on how to get access to the speaker cables connecting to the Mainboard on page (52).

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi I have a Lenovo W500 4062-5YG... O/S: Win 7 Pro My sound device is a Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD. The problem is, that the internal speakers have stopped working all of a sudden... I think it is a hardware problem since when I hookup external speakers or headphones they produce sound... but I am no expert! I have done the following to try and fix it: Disable, then enable audio driversUinstall, then install audio driversSetting the internal speakers as the default speaker sourceRestoring the system to an earlier day (where I knew that the speakers had functioned)None of these actions have worked. I actually thought I could perform a hardware test on the speakers in the "Lenovo Solution Center"... but it doesn't seem like it:-( So... How can I know for sure whether it is a hardware or software problem? And more importantly - How can I get my internal speakers to work? Any help is appreciated. CheersPhilip

Answer:Internal speakers have stopped working (Lenovo W500 with Win 7 Pro)

Hello Philip,

As mentioned in your post, you have performed all the major troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. I suggest you to update your BIOS also in order to resolve your issue. You can download and update the BIOS update utility from the below mentioned web link.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_SG/downloads/default.page?

Kindly click on Quick path and put your 7 Digit TYPE-Model number(40625YG) in the box and then click on the Find My Product. Please click on BIOS and then download the BIOS update utility according to your Operating System. It might resolve your issue. If it will also not work then it seem to be an issue with hardware. Kindly get in touch with the support centre they will assist you and try to resolve the issue.

Regards,
Harish

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place.

I had a set of GE 2.1 speakers working well with my Sony Vaio for about a year. Recently the sound started to go in & out, I had to move the wire around a lot and tape it or hold it in a certain spot to get them to work. Then one day they stopped working altogether. Assuming it was the speakers, I went and bought a new set from Best Buy. Took them home, plugged them in... and nothing, nothing at all. So I tried the OLD speakers in another desktop computer, and they worked perfectly.

So I assumed my headphone jack was broken and was going to go about trying to get a new piece and solder it and all that, but then I'm sitting here and just realized my headphones work perfectly.

What's wrong? How come the headphones work, but 2 pairs of external speakers don't?

Thanks so much

Jillian

Had this issue when I wanted to reformat my Windows 7 installation. Burned an image file and so but when put into the disc drive the reader does not seem to be running and the green indicator is flashing. In addition the disc is recognised as a blank dvd in windows explorer. the same happened when trying to boot from it, nothing came up. However, the reader reads CDs ok. When an XP installation disc is inserted. The disc is identified quickly and shown in windows explorer with the running sound of it clearly heard. Booting from it can also be done with the "Press any key to boot from CD..." prompt appearing soon. Any possible solutions to this? Thanks in advance =)

Hi jc,

Welcome to the Forum.

Never seen one of these before, Try right clicking on the speaker symbol in the notification area, select Playback Devices, You should be able to select the speaker device that you want to use.
Right click enable/disable Hide/unhide
Left Click will allow you to configure the device after selecting Configure
Properties will also give you some options

I hope this helps

Hi,I am using Lenovo g460 for the past 2 years. I am facing a charging issue recently. While working, if i connect the charger, it charges for sometime and then it stops. If i remove the pin and connect it , again it charges for sometime and stops. But if the machine is in shutdown condition it charges properly. I have shown it to a service person but he was not able to find the issue. Then i contacted the lenovo customer support and as per their instruction, i updated bios, unistalled and reinstalled the energy  management software, but still the issue is not resolved. I have replaced my battery almost a month back because my old battery was completly exhausted and was not even holding for some 5 seconds. Anyone please help to reslove this issue.

Answer:Lenovo G460, stops charging after sometime while laptop is working

Did you replace battery with genuine Lenovo battery? Some of the "aftermarket" ones may act like that.

I've been trying to solve this for some months now.I bought my lenovo G460 with nvidia M310 (with hdmi) this year and have not been able to get the hdmi port to work. I have two lcd displays one in our lab and another one at home (LG 2361V-PF) which have hdmi connections in the back.In the beginning I was able to get my notebook to work on the display in our office. However, now both displays (work+home) are not working. I have tried to reinstall latest nvidia drivers as of 2010-11-02 (ver. 8.16.11.8990) from lenovo, completely restore Operating system and tried different hdmi cables. I have even tried to use original drivers and also downgrade that to a lower version all with no luck. I have even taken my LG LCD display to the LG After Service Warranty office and have found no issues wrong with the Monitor itself. I am sure I have taken all the trouble-shooting methods into consideration so a simple question is...Is the hdmi port defective?I will take my laptop into the Lenovo After Care service center this week, but before then is there anyone who has had this issue and solved it?  -->or is it just a hardware problem easily fixed with warranty replacement parts. Thank you

- try to flash bios update if you didn't
- connect the cable first, then start-up your computer and lcd.make sure cable works and you can also try "windows + p" ( or fn + f3 )
make sure also function keys working.
- optimize performance ( probably need shut down mcfee mcagent.exe first )

im running an 8 month old toshiba with vista and realtek audio with updated drivers. surround sound speakers bought in iraq were used on audio output for about a week... then the speakers started acting funny, like with one speaker and one headphone working when headphones were plugged in. then the internal speakers squealed loudly whenever the computer was powered. had to take the speakers out just to get them to stop, and now audio output does not work at all. computer tests both devices as working properly, and drivers are updated.

I have a G450 laptop for over three years. Now recently I can't hear any sound. I checked drivers. But to get sound, I have to bend the laptop screen at certain angle. So I think its problem with some loose connection? Help me troubleshoot it.

Answer:No sound from lenovo g450 internal speakers - only from headphones

Go to Lenovo website, Click on support & enter your model number in the search box, In your case G450, Download all manuals & documentation for your laptop, You should find a pdf of the specs on the G450 & others in the G series range, That will show how to teardown your laptop, Just follow the instructions until you get to the cables you wish to check. Hope that helps! Catt

Hello,
I got this proble with my laptop: speakers integrated to the computer do not work anymore.
I checked the Device Manager and all seems to be working properly: no yellow question marks or something like that. Nonetheless, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but nothing changed.
On the other hand, when I plug the headphones in, I can hear all sounds from them, so I'm worried about an hardware problem. Before going through the hardware repair, I'd liek to be sure that's the cause.
Could anywone please suggest further checks?

I also understood that the headphone jack has a switch that is closed when the headphones are plugged in, so that the audio output is sent to the headphones and not to the integrated speakers: in case this switch is lagged, is there a way to prevent the audio outpu rerouting to the headphones?

Last information: this problem appeared after the upgrade to Windows 10, but I'm pretty sure that the audio initially worked fine for at least a couple of days, so I would exclude a relation with the operative system update.

For information: the laptop is an ASUS N55SF.

Thanks for the support.

Answer:Internal speakers not working

Additional information: hardware failure of the speakers is excluded, in fact, I tested the speakers by running Puppy Linux and all worked fine.

I would be grateful of additional hints to solve this annoying issue.

I see that this is a pretty popular question on this forum by searching, but none of those methods are really working for me.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 that I think I have a SigmaTel Audio system (I'm not the best with computers, but I think it does). I use Microsoft XP.

This problem started a few months ago when I had my computer plugged into a TV through both VGA and headphone jack. Somehow the headphone male part got bent when it was in and when I unplugged it the internal speakers no longer worked, but headphones and external speakers work fine. I've searched the internet for a while for ways to fix it over the last month or so, but couldn't find anything that actually worked. This wouldn't really be a problem, but I move my laptop around a lot and live in a college dorm room and it's tough to have speakers constantly set up and connected to my laptop.

I've read a little about problems like this and it appears that I probably hit something inside the headphone jack when the plug bent that makes the computer think headphones are always plugged in (just a guess). I've tried plugging and unplugging my headphones really fast like a million times and it hasn't worked. I've reinstalled the sound drivers, reset the computer, etc. I'm kind of out of ideas. I think I may have to open up the computer, which I really don't want to do (I've done it before to install RAM and stuff, but I'm not great at it), but if t... Read more

I have always had Altec External Speakers since I bought this Dell Dimension 4700. We have taken our desktop on vacation with us and did not bring the speakers. I get no sound from anything internal however. When I go into Device Manager, you cannot turn them on (only OFF is an option, ON is grayed out) so I am assuming they are turned on. Also, the volume is on, not on mute, and turned up high. Any ideas?

I am having a problem with the internal speakers on the X201.  Basically, the speakers just stop working.  I could be in the middle of playing a song and the speakers pop and then go out.  I have to reboot the system for them to work again.  Headphones still work despite the fact they go out.   I am thinking this is a fault with the IO Assembly board, but am not sure..  I have reinstalled Win7 clean with updated drivers and still see the same problem. Another interesting thing is I keep getting the disconnect/connect sound ( like you are plugging in a usb device ) at random times.  That always seems to correlate to the windows AUDIODG process. Any ideas?

Hello all,

I've had my laptop for just over 6 months now and I've encountered no problems until recently.

However I am experiencing problems with the sound. It just doesn't appear to be working, despite the volume being turned up to the max. The problem usually fixes itself briefly after a restart but it then cuts out after time.

None of the playback devices are muted. When I try testing the speakers, I get an error message saying "Device in Use: Please close any applications using this device for playing audio" - however, there doesn't appear to be any device using the speakers.

I have recently started using an HDMI cable to use my laptop through my TV, I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Acer Aspire E1-570 - internal speakers not working?

The HDMI is probably the reason. When an HDMI cable is plugged in, Windows changes the default audio playback from the Speakers (PC Sound card) to HDMI.

If you want the PC speakers on, with an HDMI cable plugged in you will have to manually change the playback device from the HDMI to the "Speakers". This is done in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel, Playback section. However, if you reboot, with the HDMI cable plugged in you will have to manually change the playback device again.

I have a T510 using the Contexant 20585 SmartAudio HD driver for the internal speakers. Today they just stopped working. I run the tests and I get no sound left or right. Now I did notice something odd. I open Control Panel and then I click SmartAudio. I then click the third icon from the left at the bottom of the screen (Audio Director). Now on the right hand panel of the screen I see a large, red 'X' beside the laptop. That would be between the laptop and the headphones.... anybody know what that is? (Would it appear to signify that something is amiss with the speaker?) Anyway, I've uninstalled, installed the latest drivers (May 2010). Still nothing... any ideas?

Hi

I bought this Equium A110-276 a few months ago. I understand that connecting external speakers disables the internal speakers automatically. I have been using external speakers for quite some time, but now when I disconnect them the internal speakers are not working anymore.

Any ideas what I should do to get my internal speakers working again?

Many thanks.

Answer:Internal Speakers not working on Equium A110-276

Hi,

usually the socket where you connect your external speakers uses a sprung metal contact to disconnect the built in speakers when the plug is pushed in. Removal of the plug from the external speakers should then allow the sprung contact to return to its normal position which will return power to the built in speakers.
It is possible that the plug from the external speakers has bent the sprung contact so that it no longer completes the circuit for the built in speakers. You will need to dismantle you nnotebook to get access to the socket to check.

You could ask your local authorised service partner to check for you so that you don't invalidate your warranty.

Hi All,I've only had this laptop (Lenovo Z50-70, Windows 8.1) since December and now the internal speakers don't work at all. The sound only works through left headphone.I've tested the sound with multiple head/earphones but sound only comes out from the left ear.The volume control reads "speakers" regardless of whether my headphones are plugged in or not.The problem occurs regardless of program/browser used.I have uninstalled the driver (Conexant Smart Audio HD) through device manager, through programs and features and reinstalled from Lenovo's website.I have searched for updates through the device manager.Rolled back and updated through the drivers properties. I've refreshed my Laptop and tried it all again and updated my laptop through Windows Update but nothings changed.

Ive had my HP folio 13 Ultra book for a while now. I'm running on Windows 7 Home premium (64)
But a few days ago I found out the sund was not working. And for some reason the sound is working perfectly on my beats headphones
I have 2 Sound devices: IDT High Def CODEC (speakers and Headphones) and Communications headphones (IDT high def CODEC)
For Example: When you press the sound icon and you test the sound the green sound bar comes up but nothing comes out of the speakers.
Ive done the following: Trouble shooted, it found nothing , the sound is defiately on and ive tried updating the drive but its the latest. I really do not know why it is playing up.
Alright whats weird is it says it is working properly in the advanced settings?????!!!
Also when i play a song on itunes the green bar will go up and down like usual but the sound does not come out of the damn speakers. To make it more weird when I enable the Communications headphones and test them the sound comes out of the speakers and cuts out (since it is a test).i've phoned a friend of mine and he said that maybe the sound is stuck or locked on the headphones. He also thought that maybe the computer is computer is mixed up or confused with which audio device is what.

My Hp Compaq 6710b was working fine when suddenly during a song it stopped working, I can still hear the sound with headphones in best quality but can not hear it without it. I am using windows 7Ultimate, 32bit. Please help, i m really worried.... I also have updated the driver from Hp Site, but still, it is same.

Answer:HP 6710B , INTERNAL SPEAKERS STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY.

Check your volume mixer under the notification area, check your speaker settings to see if its on mute or turned down.

If everything is normal, go into the device manager and look under sound, video, and game controllers.

What are listed? And is there any exclamation or red x?

I have a x120e running Fedora 19. My speakers work for a maybe a minute and then stop. If I put the computer to sleep and wake it up again it'll work for another minute or so. When I plug in external speakers or headphones, it works perfectly. I can't find anything in any logs that indicates a software problem (dmesg or journalctl). Any ideas?

Hi friends,

My satellite c640, internal speakers suddenly stopped working but works fine when earphones or any external sources are connected
Is it a hardware problem?

I?m using win 7 64bit and I tried to install drivers but seems to be a hardware problem

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite C640 internal speakers suddenly stopped working

Hi

I?m not sure if this is a hardware problem.
You may have to check some settings.

In control panel -> sound -> playback tab.
There you should see the speakers chosen as default device.
You can also click right on these speakers and you should see some options:
? speaker configuration
? test
? disable
? and so on?.

Test the speaker firstly. In my case some short bell sound appears. You can also mark the speaker and click on Properties button. There you will see a second window with some tabs. Check the second tab called LEVEL. There you can change the sound level.

What happen exactly when you try to reinstall sound driver? Do you get any errors?

Hi all,

As the title suggests, my internal speakers aren't working anymore since a day.
The sound is perfectly working when i plug in headphones (or external speakers).

Things i've tried include:
- checking all windows-related sound options
- restoring the laptop back to when it was working
- re-installing the drivers.

The speakers are shown playing in the sound configuration window when i play a sound, i just hear nothing...

If you have another suggestion, please share it.

Thanks in advance!

I have a problem with my Equium A200PSAF5E,

My sound is perfect, however when I plug in my headphones, nothing.

My headphones are showing 'connected' and when I perform the 'test headphones' I hear the sound through the headphones.

This is driving me insane as I can hear the hidious TV

Answer:Equium A200 PSAF5E - Internal speakers working but headphones aren't

This is very strange?. So you are 100% sure that your headphones are ok?
Did you test your headphones with other devices?

Did you try to update the sound driver? If not update it.

But not be honest, it looks more like a headphone jack fault as a software issue.

Anyway, the sound driver should be updated?

Hello, I have a Lenovo B40-80.  The internal microphone is not working.  I originally bought the laptop with Windows 7 in 2015.  I upgraded to Windows 10 (probably the Anniversary update??) shortly after purchasing the laptop.  I have never attempted to use the internal microphone or webcam until yesterday.  Neither the webcam or the internal mic was working.  I was successfully able to fix the driver for the webcam and now I can record video and pictures, but it cannot record audio.  I have tried updating the driver for the microphone without success.  Yes, the microphone is set as default and it is enabled.  There is no external mic plugged in.  Please help.

Answer:Lenovo G460: Unable to proceed after Lenovo Screen

Hi nkvrpkrishna,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try,
Remove the Ac adapter and Battery then hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Reconnect the AC alone then Start hitting the F2 while the system is OFF while your tapping F2 power ON the system but still keep on tapping the F2, see if it boots to BIOS.

Some WIndows 8 models gives options for BIOS when you press the Onekey Recovery Button while the system is OFF.
If that happened on your system your be able to select BIOS from there.

Let me know your findings.

Best regards,
Solid Cruver

Once I plug my headphones in or my hearing aids bluetooth device in, it all goes south. The internal speakers continue to work as does the bluetooth, but nothing is coming out of the headphones. Since I was once in IT, this problem is unique to the jack itself. Either the jack lifted up or was pushed back and never properly tested. The hook, I just received this computer 3 weeks ago to replace a faulty HDMI out port. I was told that there would be an open ticket so if I had any problems with this computer it would be attended to. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

When I connect external speakers, the internal speakers continue to play. So I have sound on both. Other laptops turn off the internal speakers when an extenal one is connected.
How to make the L500 also do the same?

First try updating the BIOS to the latest version.

Also check the Sound Settings in Windows - perhaps you can configure this 'feature'.

Answer:Internal speakers stay mute when external speakers disconnected

Hello. After you re-install the Realtek audio driver, run the audio test in the ePSA diagnostic. If you cannot hear tones during the test, then the speakers have failed or become disconnected. If you do hear the tones then the speakers are okay.
You can test the driver by switching it with the Windows native driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked [but SEE NOTE].7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, sometimes you have to restart, sometimes not.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]NOTE: if you have a 2-in-1 model and do not see a "High Definition Audio" option after step 6, then uncheck "Show compatible hardware". Then in step 7, if you see 2 "High Definition Audio" devices, select the 2nd one.If you only have the symptoms with one of the... Read more

Hey, I have owned the Lenovo y510p for awhile, I've probably used it for around 6+ months but recently I've been trying to use the built-in webcam. It worked for awhile, and then for some reason, it stopped working. It would keep bringing up multiple problems such as another program is using it ( I deleted a Lenovo Media program and it started working again ). It worked for another short while until it broke down again. I've deleted and redownloaded the Lenovo y510p driver for the webcam.Skype can't detect the webcam as it showshttp://puu.sh/8QS0T.pngA loading screen forever.Whenever I try opening Camera, it tells me it can't find the camera, then it starts flashing, and it alt tabs itself out (???).The webcams light turns on for a split second, and then it poops. It'd be nice if someone could tell/link me the solution if it's been posted before or if you have a solution.I've tried deleting multiple programs, updating all drivers, manually deleting/resinstalling the latest webcam driver, but nothing has worked so far.

Answer:Lenovo Y510P Internal Webcam Not Working

Hi Mudkep,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that the internal webcam is not getting detected even after re-installing the driver and performing the possible troubleshooting steps. Hence, the only available option to confirm if the issue is Hardware related by performing OSRI (Operating System Re-Install) please let me know the issue persists even after performing OSRI.

NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OSRI, as the data will be completely erased.

Hope to hear back soon

So, I've tried EVERYTHING but I can't get it to work.

I have used my internal microphone to Skype call and Teamspeak, but it randomly shuts off. I have done the Microsoft troubleshooter and it actually said that there's no microphone to check on.

Right now I'm still working with Windows 8, because I don't want to change to Windows 10 untill this is fixed. It should work in Windows 8, so changing to Windows 10 shouldn't make a diffrence in the first place.

My microphone has worked, the problem is that it shuts off randomly. I don't know what I can do?

With kind regards,

Anne-Louise

Edit: I remember this happening after setting up speech recognition. I just opened it and my microphone works with speech recognition, but when I want to 'train' my computer to recognize my voice better the microphone stops working.

Could speech recognition close down my internal microphone fully, and how do I change speech recognition so it doesn't work (I never use it, was for funzies).

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers twice...no change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

I have two monitors (one VGA and one HDMI ) to the CPU (new XPS 8700), but sound only comes out of the monitor speaker with the HDMI connection.  The other speaker does work and has been tested with a 3.5MM speaker cable.
The video card is NVIDA GTX 745.  In the audio set-up control panel from the NVIDIA, I disabled audio from the HDMI thinking that I could then run 3.5MM cable on a Y splitter to the audio out port and by-pass the HDMI cable.  I tried every port and either experienced no sound or sound in one or the other speaker.
I realize these speakers are not the best and I am fine with them.  I like the clean clutter desktop look.
Can anyone help me to get both of these monitor speakers working?

For several last days, I have a strange behavior of speakers and microphone in my t470p. For most of the time they are unavailable in both Linux or Windows OS. However, where I'm doing little push on screen backward (like adjusting screen little bit), both microphone and speaker start working and become available. After I stop adjusting screen (making push backward) device become unavailable again. I'm sure that it is some kind of hardware problem and it should be easy fixing (like some connector is not attached properly inside LCD panel), but according to maintenance manual, I do not see any wires related to speakers or sound card going inside LCD panel. Can anybody advise how to fix such behavior?

Hello,
I recently purchased a Studio 1558 laptop. The specs are below:
Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 CPU   Q 720 @ 1.60 GHZRAM: 6 GBSystem type: 64-bit operating systemATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470Sound - ATI High Definition Audio Device, IDT High Definition Audio CODECI have plugged in older Dell speakers that I used with my desktop. The sound works fine until I load a webpage, or load a folder etc and then sound will temporarily switch from my external speakers to my internal laptop speakers. This is quite annoying as it happens frequently and sometimes I blare my externals which can't be good if it keeps switching to my internals.
Can anyone recommend a fix? It would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!Lenovo TP T500, Win7Pro 32. There was a problem with the integrated speakers. Yesterday worked fine. Then, after a conversation on Skype through a wired headset from the integrated speakers sound stopped going. Through headphones the sound is fine. But the sound of them is not. That is, I have created the absolute impression that the laptop "thinks" as if the headset is still activated. What will advise?

Hi All, I just got Lenovo T420 Last week with Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit OS. Unfortunately internal microphone array does not work. I already tried installing  latest Audio driver for Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD from Lenovo Support Site. Driver  8.32.23.5 . Still no luck. Refereed one of blog article where they mentioned to disable Audio Enhancement, unchecked that and still no luck. Tried with Skype, Google Voice, Cisco WebEx Communicator, IP Communicator and no luck in getting internal Microphone to work. Also tried sound recorder and all recordings are blank. There are lot of users who are facing this problem with Lenovo T420 Win 7 64Bit OS, not many users have time to come forward to discuss the same. Trying an alternative solution like plugging in an external mic or using usb headphones is not an option. Internal speakers work fine. If external mic is plugged in even that works fine. to isolate this issue. I even tried downgrading and upgrading several audio driver releases. also tried clean OS reinstall and tried deploying our Win 7 Lenovo image on this laptop. still no luck. I suspect this could be an hardware problem. Please suggest. Remember: I have already tried settings under Fn+F6 key several times using permutation and combination and spent atleast 8 Hours continuously to find a fix. Any known solution, Hotfixes from Lenovo is highly appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo T420 - 4236 - J97 Internal Microphone not working on Windows 7 64Bit

Hi All, As an update I also tried loading windows 7 Pro 32Bit and internal microphone still fails on this model. I also just now tried loading Ubuntu 10.10 Live and internal mic does not take any input. Looks like its a hardware issue and needs replacement. Please let me know if any one has come accross this problem.

I just tested my camera after my upgrade to Windows 10 and it's not working.  I double checked the settings and it all looks fine. I checked to see if maybe it was just the camera app but, the camera is not working in anything.  All I get is a grey screen with a camera icon with a line through it. I have the newest drivers from the Lenovo support site but, still not working.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance

I just want to know if I can upgrade my processor? to i7 or i5?Since I bought my laptop earlier than the 2nd version(with video card), I don't have video card, instead I got 2GB Ram(shared), I also want to upgrade it to 4GB. Do you think it will be worth it?My specs are:Intel i3 2.13 GHZ2.0 GB Ram320 GB Hard DiskI want to play:PS2 EmulatorWii EmulatorGTA IV Liberty City Please, please, please? What upgrades do you think can I play all of these at full speed? I am only getting 70% of all of it.

Answer:Upgrading my Lenovo G460

I am sure you can upgrade to i5. But I don't know if i7 will work. You should run Everest to detect what motherboard you have, then we can look at chipset to ensure. You can upgrade RAM (I think the limit is 8 GB). This machine is for general purpose, not for using like a high-profile gaming center. You know if you want to have a gaming machine (a real one), you need -at least- having a independent video card. My advice: If you want to have a gaming machine, sell this laptop and buy another more hardware gaming-friendly. Best regards.

i own a Lenovo G460. I've send to a computer shop to try different RAM type to upgrade my RAM to 8GB.I've check the spec for G460 can be upgrade to 8GB, but it won't. i've try different frequency DDR ram to 8gb, after put in, the computer will run VERY slow. remove it back to 4GB it will back to n normal.  Does it related to my BIOS? it says if bios version below the spec need to send to lenovo service centre to upgrade. Answer:Lenovo G460 cannot upgrade RAM

hi stevensys,

According to your system specs
Your system supports 8GB maximum RAM with Memory specs PC3-8500 1066MHz DDR3, non-parity,dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets. Has this type of Memory type, been tried to your system already?

also make sure both 4GB Ram runs the same frequency and speed to activate Dual Channel feature, Identical Brand would be a plus.

Regarding the BIOS Update, according to this Support statement
   http://support.lenovo.com/en_AU/diagnose-and-fix/detail.page?DocID=HT070633
Your BIOS Cannot be updated through the online download Update flash utility.
Your system has to be flashed directly to 29CN26WW (V2.03) to  have the download update work and it has to be done through service center
If you jump directly to the download BIOS update you might encounter an error.

I would Suggest Calling Lenovo Technical Support for assistance about the BIOS Update issue.
Bios updates change logs does not include support on this issue your having with the RAM.

Best Regards
Solid Cruver

Answer:lenovo g460 not turning on

hi romeoofair,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try Removing the Ac adapter and Battery
Hold Down the power button for at least 15 sec.
Reconnect the AC ONLY (no battery)

Turn it on and check.

If this failed as well

Try Removing the HDD and REseating the RAM

Hello, Recently my G460 is producing disturbing noise. Since there's a chance that its HDD is already near its limit (my laptop is almost 6 years old), I'm preparing to buy a new HDD to replace it. However, does this type support 1TB HDD (my current one is 500GB 5400rpm SATA)? And what happen if I'm using HDD with unsupported size? Thanks in advance!

I have a problem with my lenovo. Here are the descriptions :1. About in the beginning 2012, I met the problem that my battery was in low performance to save the power cause only 5 minutes the laptop is able to be on using the battery. So, I remove the battery and using power adapter to play a game, and the problem is when I was playing a game, the laptop was dead. I was using the original adapter. Then, I changed the adapter and the problem never showed again.2. After a long time, I tried to use my old adapter (in August 2012). And the the problem mentioned above was not occured.3. And last week, I was still using the original adapter, and the same problem occurs after about 5 month used. Question :1. Is the problem caused by this adapter? or is there another possibility causing it? ThanksRegards

Answer:Lenovo G460 dead when currently used

hi jean07,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

The only way to find out if the AC adapter causes the computer not to power ON is to use a voltage meter, The DC power rating of the adapter should be around 20V 1.50A or 20V 1.35A. If the power rating is too high, it might cause internal damage to the periperals. See page 21 on the hardware maintenance manual on how to check the AC adapter

If the power rating is not up to the standards, it's probably causing short on one of the components inside of the PC. Check also if the AC power adapter jack wiggles.

Hope this helps.

I just used my laptop last night and I did not encounter any problem while shutting it down. However, this afternoon, when I tried to open it, I keep on getting stuck on the STARTING WINDOWS logo. I used start up repair multiple times, but it is no use. It says the problem cannot be fixed "a recent hardware of software change might be the cause". Please help me. I don't want to lose my files.

Answer:Lenovo G460 Won't Start

This same issue is discussed on a Microsoft forum but for a Lenovo G570 like mine. In my case it seems that Windows is hanging when it reaches the DVD driver. By removing the optical drive (the instructions for this are in the Lenovo user guide - you undo a small screw under the laptop) the problem seems to have gone away. Now I just need to work out if it's the drive or the controller that's faulty. Any suggestions, please?

Question: Lenovo G460 dead

My lenovo G460 is completely dead, it's neither starting on battery nor on ac power..... No lights nothing..... I tried the power reset procedure given in some other posts.... But it still dosent switch on......what can be the causes and possible solution......any help would be highly appreciated....

Answer:Lenovo G460 dead

Check battery for charge, check power supply for proper voltage output. If battery is charged, power supply working to specs, then it may be a problem with the charging circuit inside the notebook. You can check both battery and AC power adapter with a "Volt Ohm" Meter that covers AC and DC voltages. These are usually fairly inexpensive online, or at a local electronics shop.Good luck.

So, my G460 was just sitting out, and I noticed that it just shut off on its own... The laptop was plugged in, charging, with battery installed, so there's no chance of any power disturbance of causing the laptop to shut off. Now when I start it up it wont get past the windows startup screen - it just hangs.  Once in a while it will go the the screen where it detects that windows hasn't started up or shutdown properly and runs the test to check for "disc consistancy" etc.  But as soon as all the tests are done it hangs here also. I've tried leaving it to run, figuring maybe it updated and was finishing installing updated, but it doesnt budge. Note:  In both scenarios where the laptop hangs, the hard drive light stays on.  The only difference I found was that when the system hangs after the "consistancy check" eventually the hard disc light shuts off. This is just another of a list of issues I've encountered with this laptop.  In fact, this is the second system I've received and it wasnt easy to get customer service to help with that first one AT ALL. Can anyone help?  Or should I ditch Lenovo and just cave and buy a freaking Apple?  SOMEONE HELP PLEASE!  I'm not computer illiterate either!  Ive NEVER has so many issues!

Answer:Lenovo G460 Crashed, now Hangs!

I also have the similar problem. I've tried every trick on the books including hardware reset. And the problem disappears only for a while. And now, this problem has forced me to get a hard drive as the old could not stand being reset on daily basis. Can anyone help us here?
