I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
hi SD_musician,
Can you try to:
1. Check this registry fix to disable or enable the Num Lock key at startup
2. Referring to this article, try to press Fn+F8 to enable numlock at the Windows login screen then press the power button to shutdown / restart the PC.
3. Check for an updated BIOS from the lenovo website to fix both capslock and numlock issue (press Windows Key+Rt > type msinfo32 then press Enter to know your BIOS version).
Note:
Backup your important files and follow this readme instructions before updating the BIOS.
Let me know your findings.
Cheers.
I was on my Y560 Model 0646 checking my email and the computer shut off on me. I went to turn it back on and it does not turn on. The caps lock and number lock light up. Blue tooth, Battery, and Video status all light up above keyboard in status area. None of the fans are going, and it does not sound like anything is running. I tried removing the power and battery and pressing power button a few times. Also tried to remove power and battery and holding down power and nothing. It's almost like it freezes. I can push the mute button and it lights up, but then cannot turn it off. Please help. Laptop just went out of warranty last month.
I'm guessing it is because of the motherboard. Since it is out of warranty can a Y560 motherboard be purchased anywhere? Any ideas? Please help.
7 more repliesMy Toshiba satellite c650d seems to have power...the on button is green. The screen is black, the numbers and caps lock lights are on and wont go off. The disk drive makes the usual booting up noise but that is all she does. Ive unplugged and removed the battery and that did nothing. I cant even turn it off with the on/off button to remove that battery and then turn it on again. I removed and reinserted the memory (both) and I can't take the hard drive out, its held in by a screw. Is my "friend" dead?
If, as it sounds, it is booting up but not ever displaying anything on the screen, check the cable between the motherboard and the screen. It might just be one of the connectors (at either end) has worked loose. With the computer well booted up, move the screen gently down to nearly closed. If you ever see anything on the screen then it could be the cable is faulty where it hinges.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
2 more repliesI have G500 laptop running windows 8.1 64 bit. I have noticed that there is no indicator light for when num lock is on. The light on the front of the computer under the touchpad comes on when caps lock is active, but not for num lock. Is there any indicator for num lock on this computer?
Hi Kimikat730,

I'm using an HP Pavilion dv6000 Notebook series. I noticed that my Caps Lock LED is not working but its FUNCTION is working fine.. same goes with Scroll Lock. Here's the weird part.. when I press Num Lock ( function key + scroll lock ) the LED turns on! I already tried a system recovery, it didn't solve the issue. Is there something wrong with my BIOS? Any help from you guys will be highly appreciated.. thanks!
Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly. Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then try updating your BIOS. If neither works...It's pretty much dead and not worth fixing. To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for 5 seconds)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook. There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.
9 more repliesHi,
I'm having problems with my keyboard again. The Caps Lock key (dim) light remains on and the following keys are not working: 2 @ w s x and the one on the right next to Alt. In the meantime I'm using the on-screen keyboard. I had this problem a couple of years ago, I found a solution online but I forgot what the solution is, so i'm sure is not a keyboard itself.
Thanks
I think you should try re-seating the keyboard's cable to the motherboard.
You would have to remove the keyboard to do it
Can you recall if that's what you did last time ?
My caps lock light suddenly quit working. I have no display of caps lock. I am running Windows 7 on an X250 I7 with 8 gybtes of memory. I wonde if this is a hard ware problem or a software glitch. I have 136 days of warranty left. Thanks very muchMK Stenstrom
More repliesI have a Satellite C660 which was working fine this morning. When I returned from work and powered it on, the entire keyboard is not working and therefore cannot enter my login details.
The Num lock and Caps lock are lit.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
Hi
Are you able to disable the CapsLock and NumLock?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 while powering up the unit?
If this does not work, I would recommend checking an external USB keyboard.
If the USB keyboard would functions, then this means that the internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.
i recently encountered a small problem with the onscreen display when trying to turning some functions on and off. i've noticed that when i tried to turn caps on, it does not display the "Caps On" on the lower right bottom of the screen. i just want to know if anyone have encountered this problem or could solve it. as an obseravation, i noticed that the display disappeared ever since i install word 2003. thank you.

Well, I have no idea what caused this but the tablet buttons (even the on/off button) the lights for caps lock and scroll lock as well as the automatic screen orientation change when I flip it to be a tablet have stopped working. Also the screen does not turn off anymore when the lid is closed. Reinstalled pretty much all of the drivers, no effect.Any ideas? Is this thing already broken?
well, SOMETHING is broken.. though it would seen unlikely it is hardware.. a question: did you load anything new just before this happened..?anything at all..scanner drivers or printer drivers or a new application..? OH!, welcome to the lenovo community..!

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.
Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?
Welcome to Windows TenForums, Vaindil.
It doesn’t seem to work on anyone’s system and there doesn’t seem to be a fix yet. You can read here into the beginning of the next page if you like.

Good Day Please can you help me. I have an ideapd z580 and recently noticed that I'm unable to determine whether my num lock or caps lock is on. There used to be an icon indicator but not anymore and I don't know why. I also tried to go on to advanced settings (under screen resolution) and I noticed that I don't have the "on-screen display tab". What can i do?
Hi jarryd,
Welcome to the community,
This should be fixed easily by installing the latest version of the power management driver.
I am not sure what machine you have so you can find it at our support site:

For some time now, i have been experiencing that my Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking) all at the same time, I tried to google it but i can not find any solutions or explanations for it.
Does anyone know if it is bad? and what is causing this?
I am having a wired keyboard with nothing fancy just a standard issue Logitech keyboard.
Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.
2 more repliesHi,
how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?
I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks
Hi,
You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Log into the tablet.2. The screensaver would lock the tablet.3. Press Ctrl Alt Delete to get to the logon screen.4. The on screen keyboard would show the Caps Lock key as on but it wasn't. Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point (yes, I know, all 16 and perhaps others now as well), but you can use Windows Update for the updates. It will notice they are missing and re-install them.
The problem is that one of them may have caused the light problem. It may be best to write down the updates it wants to install (with the KB numbers) and do each individually and then reboot and make sure the light still works before moving on to the next until you find the one causing the problem. Then uninstall that one and just install all the rest but that one. Post back with KB number and name of that update and we'll look into the problem.
Or you can live without a CAPS LOCK light. As a partial workaround, Go to Start / Control Panel / Ease of Access Center / Make the keyboard easier to use and check the box for Toggle Keys. Now whenever you hit Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock, they system will make a sound. As you probably almost never use Scroll Lock or Num Lock, it will basically apply for Caps Lock. Thus though you may not see the light come on, you will at least hear a sound indicating ... Read more
Strangely enough, since updating to 9879, the caps lock light on my keyboard does not work.
I know it may seem small but it is really annoying not knowing when caps is on or not. My keyboard is backlit and the keys light up fine but the light on the capslock key does not.
I'm dualing booting with Windows 8.1 and if I switch back to 8.1, the caps lock button light works fine, so I know the light it self is not the problem.
Any suggestions?

Hello.
The caps lock light on my HP Pavilion G6-2356sa is flashing. The button still puts the letters in capitals, so it still works, just continually flashing. It's just stopped flashing actually.
Anyway, I've had a Google and all the results I've found say it has a black screen at the same time. Mine doesn't have a black screen, though it did a few months ago, made a thread here.
I'm not sure this is a good sign.
Thanks in advance for help.

hi everyone, I have a hp Pavilion dm4-3011Tx with beats which is about 7 months old. Yesterday I woke it up from sleep and the keyboard lit up and the caps lock light would blink twice every few seconds. I held the power button down and rebooted it and when it started up the fans were running and the light was still blinking. I tried a hard reset and everything and several hours later it started again randomly...A short while later it happened again and this time I was unable to fix the problem. I have already read that it a Bios corruption but I don't know what that means. Can anyone help? Thanks. I have already tried doing a hard reset, taking the battery and the plug out, pressing the windows key and b while turning it on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Your keyboard seems to be damaged. Get it replaced, you're still in warranty I guess.

Hi
You have suggested that this light doesn?t works since motherboard replacement.
Am I right? In my opinion it's a mechanically issue. Cannot solve it yourself.
In this case I would recommend contacting the ASP again and explain him the situation. Usually the warranty should cover the reparation procedure.

"Is this likely a hardware problem? How do I tell? If it's a hardware problem, how do I fix?""Is this likely a software problem? How do I tell? If it's a software problem, how do I fix?"It's more than likely hardware related. Do you get CAPS when it's toggled (try it a couple times to be sure). If so, then likely the LED has simply expired. If not, then the key itself (or possibly cable) is probably defective. May or may not be an easy fix depending on your experience with the inside of a laptop."Channeling the spirit of jboy..."

1 more repliesHi, I have HP Pro X2 410 G1 and when pushing the ON/OFF Button,it vibrates as it would be,and instead of turning on the display and displaying the HP logo and so on,it keeps the display black with no led (like it is when the tablet is turned off) and starts blinking white light on CAPS LOCK button,it blinks 1 time, after 3-4 second once more time, after 3-4 second once more time and continues doing so until I turn the tablet off. I turn it off by holding the ON/OFF button for several seconds, and it turns off as usually does when everything is ok (a light is blinking 1 time on the lower middle of the screen ribs and the power goes off) .So I think it actually turns on,but the screen is not showing anything and the system realizes that something is wrong and gives me alert with that blinking on CAPS LOCK button ... I have removed the touchscreen and using the tablet with its HP Pavillion x2 dock station as a notebook. The screen is moving, because the touchscreen must have been fastened to it, but I have removed the touchscreen and only the screen is left.there are times that it turns on normally, but for about 70-80% situations it gives the problem above PLEASE HELP ME TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM

Hi, First, with reference to the Service Manual on the link below - remove and re-seat your memory module(s). If the above makes no difference try the following. Again, with reference to the Manual on the link below, remove one of your memory modules and then see if the notebook will boot. If it doesn't, try the same module, but in the other slot. If is still doesn't boot, try the other memory module in both slots, to see if any combination will allow the notebook to start normally. The procedure for removing these modules is detailed starting on Page 63 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Regards, DP-K

Most likely the CapsLock LED is defective. If so this won't be an easy or inexpensive repair.
Probably the most expedient solution would be to install an on-screen CapsLock indicator utility, e.g. Hotkey Features Integration for ThinkPad or CapsLock v4.2.0 ("A utility program that gives an on-screen display and optional audible indication of the keyboard CapsLock key state.")

9 more repliesI have a Ideapad Y560P that shut down suddenly and when we tried to turn it back on, the Caps Lock and Num Lock (on F8 key) lights go on but the computer does not start. I saw a similar thread from 2010 but there was no resolution. I assume that the two lights on at the same time at attempted start indicate some kind of "fault" condition in the computer. I have not been able to get the bios to start so that I could run diagnostics. I pulled the battery and held down power for 30 seconds, pressed start twice, put the battery back in but still won't start. I pulled memory out, trying to get a POST "beep" error but that didn't occur. I put memory back in one dimm at a time. I pulled the Hard Drive out and put it in an external enclosure and was able to extract the information to another laptop so I'm pretty sure I didn't have a hardware Hard Drive failure. Other than the one reference in this forum I haven't seen any information about this kind of, what I assume is a, hardware failure. I assume that Lenovo has some kind of guide that tells them what the lights mean. The computer was about six months out of warrenty when it failed. I called Lenovo to attempt to extend the warranty but they won't once it is out of warranty. Looking for some idea of what failed, whether it is worth getting one of Lenovo's listed companies that repair laptops to look at it and fix the problem.

I have heard of sites where such things can be downloaded but again NOT a techie, so I hesitate to go outside of Windows/Microsoft for downloads. I do not know what download sites are safe or spoofs.
Please plain English ... i.e. go to settings etc. Or just give me a Microsoft approved site for download.

My recent purchase of the above All-in-One PC (running on Windows 10) included the Lenovo SK-8861 keyboard which has no lights for the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK keys. How do I get them to be displayed on the screen when pressed? When I went into Display Settings in Control Panel, I could not find the option to set them on or off. so, based on the instructions on https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht002122, I installed the Hotkey driver from http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/downloads/ds031814. When I now go into Advanced Settings under Display Settings and click on Screen Configurations, I can see the Enable on-screen display checkbox and the Appearance settiings but the expected Indicator Settings for NUM LOCK and CAPS LOCK aren't being displayed as expected. Can anybody advise what I need to do to enable these settings? Lenovo On-Screen-Display is listed under the Installed Programs in Control Panel. Many thanks.
I do not have an answer for how to enable them via the control plane, but I can point you to a free tool called Keyboard LEDs that I have used in the past that when installed will put an indicator in the system tray, and will sound a tone and display on screen if so configured in its settings.. Cheers,
1 more repliesMy friends dv7-1135nr is not posting. The num lock and caps lock led light will flash once every 2 seconds at the same time. According to HP this issue is a " not functional" cpu. I am ordering another cpu for 16.00 off ebay because this is cheaper opposed to ordering another board. Anyone else have this issue? And if so did you fix it ?
Hi,I have an inspiron 9400 that has been having some issues lately. As of right now, when I push the power button, the power light comes on but it does not boot or even post. The Num lock stays on and the caps lock and scroll lock lights blink for about 40 seconds then the whole thing shuts off. This can obviously be only a few things but, how to I figure out what those blinking lights mean. I have search dell support but have found nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Try reseating your RAM securely in their slots. I have read that blinking of any of the lock indicators is a sign of memory failure.

6 more repliesHi, i've been reading through an endless amount of forum threads to figure out how to remove this caps lock indicator and have not been able to fix my problem. It seems every solution in the control panel does not fit, and no matter how much i look in Registry Editor I can't find the right folders. I don't have the Widcomm folders. This is what I have tried. 1. unchecking any caps lock indication in the control panel.2. Looking through Registry Editor to delete/rename/alter files.3. Deleting and re-installing Lenovo Energy Manager. How is this problem fixed for me? I am running windows 10, and a rather new Lenovo Y50 laptop

Lenovo Y720 So, when I hit caps ock or num lock an on screen display tells me whether capslock or num ock has been pushed. While I appreciate it is helpful for some, in my case it become a hinderance. You need to remove "num lock" for single key print screen request, and if I have a short time frame, I am stuck without being able to screenshot until the num lock indicator goes away. How do I turn off the on screen display. Now, before you send me to the previously asked questions of similar nature, I have tried. There is no "display settings" in Control Panel. There is no "advanced display settings" on the settings panel. And there is no way to control it through NVIDIA or Intel graphics settings (that I can see). Thanks kindly.

If you are using Windows 8, then it is important to note that the on-screen indicators for Num Lock and Caps Lock are not available in Windows 8. To know more about this, you can refer to the link below:http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30035/~/no-num-lock-and-caps-lock-indicator If you are using Windows 7, you can check if following the steps below helps:1. Click on "Start".2. Type keyboard in the "Search" field.3. Double-click "Keyboard options".4. Go to "Key settings" tab and then, go to "Key settings" list.5. Locate and double-click "Caps Lock" and select the option "Display Caps Lock status on screen". Click "Finish".6. Follow Step 5 for Nums Lock as well. Hope this will resolve your issue.
1 more repliesI went to get my HP dv4 Pavilion laptop after work tonight to check email and i opened it up and moved around the mouse to wake it up...the lights on they keyboard all came on as if it were starting but the screen stayed black. I waited a few minutes because sometimes it's been known to take a few seconds to actually kick on...but nothing happened so I forced shutdown by holding the power button. Turned it back on and the screen came on(with a "your system didn't shut down properly error screen) but it still started, but now the Caps Lock and Scroll keys had blinking lights on the side and top, blinking together about every second. I tried tapping the buttons and nothing happened. What caused this and how can i get rid of the blinking. I've read from doing a google search that shutting down, taking the battery out and unplugging from the A/C adapter and holding the power button for 15 seconds takes care of the problem...but I would like to make sure that is safe before trying as this is a fairly new laptop(just got it at Christmas time). I'm running Windows 7 if that makes a difference. would also like to add that I just noticed that my little batter icon says it is plugged in but not charging....it's sitting at 80%....this is a brand new ac adapter that I just got last week...so I hope it's not that.Thank you for any help you can give me....and sorry if this isn't the right forum....it seemed to be the best fit.

9 more repliesGood afternoon,
I just did a clean install of 7 to fix errors with my laptop, and it fixed one, but not the other main issues,
My caps lock, and number lock button on the keyboard don't have a light on it and the pop up that is supposed to pop up doesn't show up on screen.
I figured by doing a clean install it would all magically appear again... I was wrong, I have tweaked everything I could think of looking/trying to change setting from the keyboard in control panel, (including messing around with ease of use) and Gateways so called "support" area was of no help, as well as googling the issue has led me down a path of useless tips, I have also looked on this forum for help.
Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated!!

i have a problem woth my EliteBook 8460p.
the caps lock and num lock blinks 4 times each time and then turns off totally.
what is the problem?..
On a Lenovo Ideapad 310 and have no idea how to remove the annoying caps lock and number lock indicator. I have tried to turn it off through the advanced settings on the display section however Windows 10 does not seem to allow that adapter screen and instead takes me to another screen that doesn't have the same settings.

Hi, Welcome to TSG forums!
You might try booting it into safe mode....while computer is booting, continously tap the F8 key. This should open it in safe mode. If it does, use the arrow keys to move up to 'last known good configuration' click on enter, let the machine do its thing.

7 more repliesHow do I remove the Caps and Num Lock indictor for a Lenovo G50, that is running Windows 10?
Hi Thisismyname01 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
On a similar G50 , this was resolved by uninstalling Energy Management .
Another steps that was advised :
1. Opening Control Panel >Program and Features>Uninstall a Program and look for Caps OSD or Lenovo OSD
2. On the display properties of the graphic card , you may also configure to "Show indicator for a few seconds" .
3. Disable hotkeys from the BIOS ( but this may change all other usable hotkeys ) . Lets's reserve it a last option.
Update us what works for you.

hi Vilvern,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
AFAIK,
If the system does not have CAPS OSD under Control Panel / Uninstall a Program to uninstall
You will need to Uninstall the Lenovo Energy managemenr Under the Programs / Uninstall a program.

More repliesI need help. I will explain when I believe the problem began. I Had windows xp running with 3 harddrives and a Cdrom drive. My CdRom drive began to give me problems, so I was going to swap it with one from one of my other computers. At the same time I wanted to change the way I had all my drives connected. I had originally had the 80 gig drive as a Primary Master, with a smaller drive acting as the Slave. I also had the Cdrom as Master Secondary drive and a smaller drive attached as the Slave. Now everthing was running fine, exept that my cdrom drive would read the discs only if it would start up with the disk in the drive. If I tried to change it, windows would ask me to place a disk in the F: drive, when there already was one. I thought to replace the CdRom drive with another working device. while at the same time I decided to change up my Connections. I took the "new" cd rom drive and made it Slave Primary to the Master 80 Gig drive. then I took the two smaller drives and put them together as sencondary devices. when I tried to turn on the computer all that happens is, as soon as I touch the power my 3 lights on my keyboard come on. Num Lock Caps Lock and Scroll Lock. I know the drive is turning on because I can feel & here it wirr. I tried taking everything off except for the 80 gig drive and I still got the same problem. Later on I noticed that there are a bunch of smaller connections that come from the front of my computer power, sleep, and reset buttons. ... Read more

I'm not sure if you've resolved this issue but I solved the problem by removing the charger plug, then the battery. While the battery is out, push the power button. Reinstall the battery and reconnect power. When the notebook rebooted, the caps lock light and num lock lights were once again working.
10 more repliesThe keyboard is plugged in ok, i have no viruses and have not installed anything new. The light for caps lock on the keyboard does not come on, the button does not work at all, although holding down standard shift to create capitals poses no problem. Bizarre! Ill guess its a simple case of using my windows cd to look for missing components/software/related drivers, but i wish i knew what could be a likely cause, to prevent it happening again? The lights on the keyboard for scroll lock and num lock work, and function.
"..but i wish i knew what could be a likely cause"A faulty keyboard is the most likely cause. Try turning it upside down, banging it's bottom, and get all the crumbs out ;-))
5 more repliesHi all,
My CAPS LOCK key is not working on my Satelite P50-A-14E series laptop. Just realized while writing an email that is not working so is more or less sudden. Nothing has been spilled on it. Here is what I've checked so far:
- green light indicating that CAPS is LOCKED illuminates while pressing the key from on screen keyboard
- keyboard backlight doesn't start when I press the key but It works for the key itself when pressing any other key.
- tried a clean boot but no result.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Hi
> Just realized while writing an email that is not working so is more or less sudden.
Did you test the CAPS LOCK button using different software: internet browser, word or another editor?
How about the usage of external keyboard?
From my point of view there are two possible malfunctions: either there is some problem with the software you are using or the internal keyboard simply malfunctions and in such case the keyboard replacement will solve the problem.
You could test the external USB keyboard. In case the USB external keyboard CAPS LOCK button would functions, then the internal keyboard has to be replaced for sure.
Sporting Windows XP (32-bit) on my T530 and as of recently, Caps Lock indicator has stopped working. Mute, Volume, Screen Brightness indicators are working as per usual, only CL indicator is not working anymore. Tried upgrading Lenovo Hotkey Features, rebooted but still no go. Also, I can't remember where do I find settings for Caps Lock indicator? IIRC, it should be somewhere in Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced/OSD, but it disappeared. I can only enable/disable OSD, adjust fade-out time and background/foreground color(s). Options for Caps Lock indicator are missing. Anyone experiencing similar problems?

I have been using Windows 7 for a few months now, and suddenly my Logitech keyboard Caps lock is not responding. Previously I simply pressed the Caps lock key, but recently that has had no effect. The Number lock key works perfectly, so has anyone any ideas please? Thanks.
box next to toggle keys to indicate caps lock on is ticked and still not working???
I don't know how to resolve your problem, but as a non touch typist, a free piece of software called Boldfinger has been invaluable to me. It disables the Caps Lock key, so you can't accidentally press it - and then look up at the screen and find your last five minutes of typing is in upper case... :-( You have to do something like Ctrl+Caps Lock or Alt+Caps Lock if you really want Caps Lock on.

More repliesWhen I hit the power on button on my computer, it takes anywhere from five minutes to eight hours to start up. While starting up, and while running, the CAPS lock and NUM lock lights flash once about every 2.75 seconds.
I looked up the HP error codes, one flash is supposed to signify a CPU problem...but I can run Half-life 2, WoW, Runes of Magic, and 8 track Guitar Pro 5 files just fine. So I figure my CPU's (AMD Turion x2 dual core @ 2.0 Ghz) got nothing wrong with it.

Caps lock and Num lock reversed
On my new Gateway ML6720, the caps lock and num lock are OFF, but my caps lock and num lock lights are on. And vice versa. I don't remember it being that way this morning when I first turned it on.

The HP EliteBook 8530p Notebook PC supports a maximum of 8 GB of DDR2-800 RAM.
It has 2 SODIMM slots, so that means you can't install more than 4 GB in each slot.
4 GB X 2 = 8 GB
