Preferred Solution: Problem about installing the hardware for Bios in lenovo G480

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear Lenovo: Good day; my lenovo model is G480, I customized partition of the Hard disk into 2. When I try to boot from bios setting it does not go, and also it does not go to boot menu. How can I install a new operating system. Please give me some instruction. Thanks Best Regards;Silvino

Answer:cannot go to bios setting Lenovo G480

hi Silvino,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're trying to access the BIOS via the F2 but won't work, can you try to turn off the machine, press the Onekey Recovery (Novo) button and check if you get a menu to access the BIOS.
   - Link to picture

If that doesn't work, you may want to consider these steps:
1. Remove the HDD and try to access the BIOS via the F2 or OneKey Recovery (Novo) menu
2. Flash the BIOS to v97:

Summary of changes:
Fix issue: BIOS and boot menu can't be accessd after windows recovery

Let me know if the above steps works for you.

Regards

Hello, We purchased 3x G480's a few years ago, for our staff in the Philippines.I have got one of these laptops now myself to use for travel. It was running Windows 7 Home x32.I did the free upgrade to Windows 10, and then did a clean install to Windows 10 x64.It is working great, no issues using the standard drivers that Windows 10 came with. It was like a new computer! I noticed that the BIOS was version 40, and I saw that there was a version 96 and version 97 on the support.lenovo.com site for my laptop. Both had x32 and x64 options, but did state Windows 8. On other laptops, the windows does not really matter for bios upgrades, as they are not specifically linked, so I didnt think it was an issue. I used the version 97 first, but it failed saying "ERROR 255 - TDK library initialization failed!".So I tried the version 96, and that worked. It is now running the later bios. I however noticed that there is no display to push F2 to enter the bios anymore. There is no bios terminal printing on startup, and it now just shows Lenovo screen and a scrolling circle, all the way up to the Windows Welcome screen. The startup time is much slower also. And its chewing through the battery! The battery use to last 4 hours on Windows 7 Home and after the Windows 10 upgrade, but since the bios upgrade I am lucky to get 1h from it. I tried again to install version 97 to see if that would improve things, however I get the same error. So I tried to roll back to version 40, us... Hello, I have a Lenovo G480 Notebook running a windows 7 operating system. I left it on hibernate for more than 12 hours. The next time I tried to boot it up it failed. The LED light is on, the fan is not working, and the screen was just black.I tried booting it up on a battery alone and on AC charger alone and with both. Same result for all:-LED light on-fan not spinnig-black screenWhen i connect the battery and tried pressing on the power button to turn it off and on again, the LED light will only turn off for about a second and turn on again with the screen still black and fan not running.I also tried taking off the battery and the cord and press the power button for 30 seconds replace the battery and cord. Same result. I did the same again but only with the cord connected and still same result.I used the recovery button and it booted up however the fan is still not working. It took me to a screen where i have to choose 4 optionsBoot normally, bios setup and 2 more options.I chose boot normally and it said "resuming windows" then I got to my desktop screen. After about 5 minutes it started rebooting by itself 2-3 times before it started normally again, it got me to my desktop screen and still the fan is not working. I quickly made an account here and typed this. Please help me identify and fix the problem. Thank you.EDIT: i checked and the fan is now running. How can i avoid this problem in the future? Thanks

Hi everyone.. so my my laptop is a Lenovo G480 intel i34GB ramMy operating System when i bought this was Windows 7 Home Basic. So my problem is that my Local Disk C is 420 GB while my Local Disk D is only 25.4 GBSo I want my disk D to have more space (atleast 150GB) so I could store all my Installers, Games, Music and Videos in there, but when i try to transfer the memory from C to D, it wont. I shrink 150GB from my Local Disk C and when i clicked on Local Disk D the option Extend Volume is not available. So i tried to create a new drive instead.. I right click the 150GB unallocated space and the only option available is Create Simple Drive (i think). then i agreed at all the options but in the end it would say Not Enough Space.I dont understand. So  I tried changing the Operating System to Win7 Ultimate but same problem.  Please Help Me I dont know what to do (and by the way it can also not be done when im installing Win7. The option Extend is also not present there or  Create new Drive)

@Dconzif you have windows 7 ultimate DVD then just boot from this DVD and wipe out all created partitions (please do not touch/delete the OEM hidden partiton of 14.6 GB ). just delete the 100/200 MB system reserved partiton, C drive and D drive and then create your C and D of size as required by you. then install windows 7 ultimate OS.

Answer:I have some problem , please help me lenovo g480 always in start up logo

hi depper,

Sorry to hear what happened,

The first thing that will show up on your computer is the Lenovo LOGO,
You said that when you have that page it is as far as it goes and that screen is blinking?

Try Removing the AC adapter and battery,
Hold the power button down for at least 15sec.
Then REconnect just the AC adapter and try turning it on.

You can also try Pressing F12 when you turn on the computer and check if a boot menu will show then select your HDD.

Let me know your findings...

My G480 boots to the "Lenovo" screen and moves no more. It picks the empty optical drive but never moves to the hard disk.  Also, I put a clean install Win 10 disc in the drive and the G480 picks and sees the disc, appears to read but still does not move off of the Lenovo screen. This is a vanillia g480.  There is an additional 4 gig of memory bringing the on-board memory to 8 Gig.  But the system has been working for years with this mem. Also, I pulled the main battery and held the On/Off button in for 30 seconds and the failure continues. I did swap the memory around to see if that made a diffeerence but it did not. Other than using "F2" to get to the BIOS settings, is there another method to use that would force a bypass of the BIOS and move into a maintanence mode? One earlier problem that I had was that the optical disc drive kept dropping into the "hidden" mode and the drive would not work until it became seen again. Don Any suggestions greatley appreciated.

Hi donfarr ,

Greetings.

I was thinking of the integrity of the harddrive itself .
Would it still be detected in the BIOS System information under General tab?

Have you tried reseating the harddrive itself ? ( remove harddrive and put it back in )
Testing it on another pc or even to run diagnostics to it by having it slaved on another harddrive enclosure can help isolate the issue.

After reseating the harddrive , you may go back to the BIOS and load default then save and exit.

Update us how it goes .

Answer:Lenovo g480 OKR

hi poovarasan,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Open a command prompt as administrator and type the following:
  diskpart
  list disk
sel disk 0 (where disk 0 is the G480 HDD)
  list part
sel part 4 (where partition 4 is the OEM partition)
set id=07 (this will unhide the OneKey Recovery partition)

- Link to picture

If successful, you will see an additional drive on 'My Computer' and you can now browser the files of the OEM partition. If the files are still intact, go back to the command prompt and type set id=12 to hide again the partition and try to trigger the OneKey Recovery again by pressing the OKR button.

If the OKR partition is still unresponsive, it's likely that the partition structure is corrupted. If possible, try creating a recoverry disc using this method.

If you can't create a recovery disc anymore, I'm afraid you will need to contact lenovo on how to go about getting a factory recovery disc.

The reason why this is a suspect to the murder of my laptop is because i got it two days ago, and it was plugged in when this started happening.Any suggestions?

Answer:My Lenovo G480 won't turn on

hi Ccrooks,

Thank you for Using Lenovo Community Forums!

Is this a replacement AC charger already?
This Ac is meant for Y series but it has the right input/output properties so this Ac could not harm your computer.

Have you tried Plugging this in to other Power outlet and this AC has a Removable Power cord (The cord that plugs to the wall) if you have other devices there that has a power cord that fits you can try that also.

Check when you use the battery and plug the AC in, your computer should have an indicator if its charging even if the computer is OFF

Last if you have other laptop AC that has this same Output: (20V) (3.25A or 4.5A)  and same +/- polarity icon
like this:Try if it will be able to power you System.

In case you have to Purchase a new one the get any of these AC from:

Hello.I have recently encountered a problem with my computer's touchpad. It originally came with the newest ElanTech driver. This was a little buggy so I switched to Synaptics. So far that has not done me any justice. Here is what I am looking for:-Windows 8 gestures-The ability to enable and disable palm check and touch check (or to not have that feature at all)-Click both of the physical buttons at once-The ability to enable and disable the touch-click featureThanks!

Answer:Lenovo G480 touchpad

Hi Ccrooks,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the Touchpad features are not working as expected in the ElanTech for G480 Laptop, as per your information the Synaptics driver is installed and supports only limited functionality.

The Synaptics can support below features, also here are the steps to get into the Synaptics Device settings:

Cilck on Winkey+R key to get into Run window and then type Control Mouse to get into Mouse Properties.

Select Device settings and then again on Settings option to enter Synaptics device configuration.

Here are the features that are compatible with Synapthics:

Windows 8 Feature like Pinch to Zoom and scrolling will work with this driver.
You can adjust touch sensitivity in ?Sensitivity? section as shown in screen-shot below. Moving the slider towards ?Heavy Touch? means you need to press touch pad with more greater force for performing a pointing device function.

Clicking both Physical Touchpad buttons is not compatible feature in Synaptic.
Tapping feature can be Enabled or Disabled by clicking on "Tapping" and check the box "Enable Touchpad Tapping"

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards

Hello, I wanted to ask something: can I upgrade my CPU on my lenovo G480? And in case of a positive answer, which CPU's are compatible with it? Also, I bought an 8gb RAM, and installed it on my notebook, and it says that I have 12 GB of ram, but I read somewhere else that I can only have 8 GB of ram on my notebook... this means that what the system says is a lie and thus I still can only use 4gb of ram of the 12 that it shows? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Upgrade CPU and RAM on Lenovo G480

Hi Snipercat94,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are looking for CPU & memory up-gradation for your Lenovo G480.

Yes, you can up-grade the processor and the list is available in Hardware Maintenance Manual you can check it on page 101.

It is good to know that G480 is detecting 12 GB of RAM, and as per the OS it is showing 4 GB RAM that means you system is having 32bit Operating System, suggest you to install 64bit Operating System.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Answer:Can i upgrade my cpu, gpu and ram? im using lenovo g480.

CPU yes, GPU no, RAM yes. But Lenovo don't allow for user upgrades on the CPU. If you have warranty then this may void the warranty.

Hello, Can someone please help. I can no longer access the BIOS setup when pressing F2 although the keyboard works fine. I already tried it from cold boot (after doing: shutdown /s /t 0) but this does not help. My system is: Win 7 64 bit

Answer:G480: Cannot access BIOS setup

hi adoy,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

Have you try holding the F2 button instead of tapping it? Sometimes you need to hold it for the key to kick in. If this doesn't work, try to press the One Key Recovery button when the computer is OFF. This will give you an advanced option to enter setup (BIOS).

As an alternative, try to to remove the battery, AC adapter, all USB devices and the HDD (see page 39 of the hardware maintenance manual on how to access the HDD) then reconnect the AC adapter and hold F2 to try and access the BIOS.

Let me know your findings.

Cheers

Hi Good day! Newbie here. I just bought my new laptop Lenovo G480 with pre-installed operating system of Windows 7 starter. Now, I upgrade my windows 7 starter  to windows 7 home premium and not doing the clean install. What happen is i use the windows upgrade anytime, copy the product key that i saw in the web and paste it to the upgrade anytime. The product key that i copied failed. So what I did is, I restart it, and when it boot up the windows is already upgrading to windows 7 home premium. After the setup, I copied the activation key for the product key that I copied and  windows upgrade anytime accepted it. Now my windows 7 home premium says is it is activated and genuine.Take note that I disabled the automatic update, as I'm afraid that microsoft might detect that my windows is not genuine. Before i did the upgrade, i made a backup system with the use of onekey rescue system and save the backup to my built-in hard disk drive. Now that I'm in win7 home premium, if I press the onekey rescue system button, will I get back to my previous os which is win7 starter without activating it? because I also don't have activation key for it, as i bought the laptop with pre-installed os. Can you guys please advise me what to do?I am really scared right now, I know I'm stupid and I don't want to waste my money because of what I've done. Reply will be truly appreciated. Thanks.

Were you able to boot to WIndows through the Cloned SSD?

It is known that the OKR will not work on a cloned SSD,
OKR identify the Driver Parttion through IDs

If you will need to REstart through the factory Settings.
Im afraid you'll need to Order Recovery CD's

Call SUpport ffrom your location and ask how to get the discs.

Hai everyone,                  I want to partition my hard disc.Currently it has 750 GB storage space  comprising of only 2drives.I want to increasethe number of drives from 2 to 4 or 5.How can i do it..?I am using windows 7 Home basic

Answer:Disc partition in lenovo G480

Using third Party disc partitioning software can make your system un-usable, as the hard drive has a maximum capacity of 4 Primary partitions (primary partitions are those from which windows can boot from) making 5+ partitions would convert all of them to logical hence causing the main drive (Disk C) to no longer boot. I would suggest you not to do this

Dear All,  Greetings Some days ago my laptop's screen got a bit darker on right side. Now its more dark & it looks like different. Its pixels also show different colour. On an external monitor gives a perfect picture. But LCD has problem. Please help..!! Lenovo G480 and graphic adapter is of Nvidia. Regards

Answer:Lenovo G480 lcd darker on right side.

hi hm_khawaja,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you boot into the BIOS (F2) and you still see that one side of the LCD is darker than usual then your conclusion about the LCD being the problem is correct as the backlight on that corner is most likely malfunctioning.

If the unit's still under warranty, I recommend that you contact lenovo and report the issue. Otherwise, you may need to replace the entire LED screen.

Hello everyone! I came here because I wanted to increase my dedicated video ram (VRAM) in my lenovo g480. Acording to what I have read, the laptom has I think only 32mb of dedicated RAM, and wanted to increase that value a bit more. I have already tried to see into my BIOS settings, but unlike other BIOS I have seen, there's no option for change the amount of VRAM avilable. So I wanted to know, is there ANY way I can change the VRAM, either by using comand prompts, programs, BIOS modification, etc? If not, I have to say that I'm very disappointed on the lack of control Lenovo gives to the user of their own computers. PS: I have 12 gb of ram, an intel i7 3612 QM with intel HD4000 integrated graphics card, and windows 8.1 single language.

I adjusted the partitions of my lenovo g480 and accidentally deleted the hidden partitions. I restarted and the laptop just boots up with a blank screen. I tried pressing the novo button and the selection menu shows up. Whatever I select on the popup (normal startup, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery), nothing happens; and all I'm left is a blank screen. I tried connecting the laptop into an external display and still nothing shows up in the external display. I tried removing the battery and the 30s power button pressing, and it didn't work. Need this laptop for work. Hard disk when used in another computer the files are still there.

Answer:Lenovo laptop not booting up (G480)

hi RZPogi,

After removing the AC adapter, battery, and HDD, can you try to hold the power button for 20secs to remove residual power again on the machine. When finished, plug the AC adapter only then power up the machine and try accessing the BIOS via the F2 key or Novo button..

If successful, hit F9 to load defaults and hit F10 to save and exit. On another machine, connect the HDD and  backup your files then format it. When finished, put back the HDD on the G480 and boot from a Win7 installer via the F12 key to reinstall Windows 7.

Guide:
How to Create a Bootable Windows 7 Installation USB Flash Drive
How to Create a Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc

Note:
if the G480 came preloaded with Win7 Home Premium 64bit, reinstalling this same OS will automatically find the product key that's embedded in the motherboard and will activate your copy of Windows.

If the above steps doesn't help then there's likely a problem with the BIOS and needs to be reflashed. I would recommend you check these authorized service centers and report the issue:

Please Help me with this.. I have a client with a problem on the touchpad it freezes,,, i also installed new and old version of Drivers and softwares.....

Answer:Lenovo G480 B950 2.1 Ghz TouchPad Problems

hi roldan0007,

Can you boot into Safe Mode and see if the touchpad still freezes
- if it doesn't, then it's probably a driver issue - uninstall the Touchpad driver from the Control Panel > Programs and let Windows use the generic driver - reboot in normal mode and observe
- if the Touchpad still freezes up in Safe Mode, try to reseat the Touchpad Cable (see page 55 of the hardware maintenance manual)

If the problem persist, you probably have a faulty touchpad. Try to contact lenovo for service or visit the nearest Lenovo service center near you.

If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue

Then select the BIOS utility option to enter BIOS.
To reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer should automatically restart. Please check if the issue persists.

Hello, I've got a Lenovo g480 laptop that has the following issue: When i turn On the laptop with the battery inside the socket and the charger connected, everything works fine for the first 10 minutes. But then around the 15 minute mark, i notice that the battery icon on the lower left side is running out. And no charger icon.  Plus the charger is very hot when you touch it. But if i turn on the pc with the charger only, it can keep on working indefinitely, the charger is hot, but not that much. When i use a fully charged battery, it can last about 2:30 hours. I am not sure if its a battery issue, or a charger issue.  Help is appreciated.

One day this laptop will blue screen 2 times and above showing the msg "page_fault_in_non_paged_area". I have tried running the test on my RAM and Harddisc, everything is okay. After that I found out that whenever I tried to update my network adapter driver: Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter, it will goes to blue screen with the same msg again. So, is this means that my network card got problem or is the driver problem? I tried to update or reinstall the driver but it always end up with blue screen. Pls help me.

Answer:Lenovo g480 blue screen with the msg: "page_fault_in_non_paged_area"

Try uninstalling the driver first before installing a new one, and make sure the adapter is not being used,You can uninstall it from safe-mode just to make sure the current driver is not being used. After that, install a newer driver, using the same driver will probably giving a bluescreen again later.

Hi Guys,  I've been using lenovo u330  core2duo t6600 for 6 years with windows 7 ultimate and  recently my friend gave me his Lenovo G480 i5 3230m with no hard disk.  So  a few days ago I decided to buy 500 GB Hitachi harddisk and installing windows 7 on it (with the same DVD installation that I used for u330). The progress went well, so I continue with installing drivers for g480, but my laptop suddenly turns off. There's no warning's and BSOD, just completely turn off. I press the power button, the laptop turned on and log in successfully, but again, after 1-2 hours it's suddenly turn off.For the past three days I've been trying reinstalling with some different ways1. Swipe the RAM card with U330 2. Swipe the hard disk3. Installing windows 7 with out g480 drivers4. Change SATA controling mode  from "AHCI"  to "Compatible"5. Disabling and enabling UEFI boot6. use MBR format for harddisk before installing windows  but the problem still happens,I have read in other articles that said  this problem can happen because laptop temperature is too high, g480 running on temperature 36-41 Celcius, it is considered  too hot? (my u300 running on temperature 41-60 C and working fine)I also considered it's caused by hardware problems, but i'm not sure, my friend said it never happen before, (though he never uses it for six month's)  can anyone help me?thanks before

So my dad bought me this lenovo g480 back in 2013 which i am currently still using. Last year, I got into Linux and then thought why not dual boot Kali Linux into my laptop. So I downloaded the Linux image and I was so excited to install it. So I needed to disable secure boot from the UEFI Firmware Settings, but for a whole month I tried every single method I could find online to get into UEFI (holding/tapping esc/f1-f12, etc.) I restored my laptop to factory settings but I still can't get it to enter UEFI settings. Its been a year now and I still can't get it enter no matter what I try.

My screen just doesnt turn on. I can hear everything fine but the screen is just black. I tried the "press power button for 30 seconds" trick but it didnt work.Heres everything that happened since 2 days ago,-laptop was on for more than 24 hours(plugged in with battery attached)-turned off my laptop a few hours ago and opened the bottom compartment to take out my ram stick. I took a picture and put it back.-saw that the fan was dirty so i wiped off the dust. After that i closed it back up.-turned it on after 4 hours and here i am asking for helpThank you!!!   EDIT: I took out my ram and wiped the gold part with an eraser and now my laptop turned back on. Was this a coincidence? if not can anyone tell me why it worked?

Answer:Lenovo G480 screen wont turn on

hi vitrinithepooh,

It's possible that the RAM stick is not properly making contacts with the memory slot (which is usually caused by dirt) and removing those debris made a solid contact to the motherboard. (i've also tried this method and it works like a charm).

Alternatively, you can also use Q-Tips dipped with 70% rubbing alcohol to clean the gold contacts.

In addition, you may also want to run a memory test on the RAM to verify its reliability.

Answer:Lenovo G480 Dedicated graphics recommendation

Looking at your service manual I do not see an option to add in a dedicated video card. If correct your notebook computer uses the onboard graphics in the i5 or possibly a soldered in GPU chip and can not be changed. I would recommend contacting Lenovo Support via phone to confirm parts availability before purchasing.Good Luck.

It's been a while since the release of the Y410 and they now have the Santa rosa refresh processors. I was wondering if Lenovo will provide a bios update to be able to enable "Intel VT" support. I am currently using a y410 with T7300, 4GB ram. I believe the chipset and processor supports the use of Intel VT (hardware Virtualization) option. I use my personal laptop to run Virtual PCs. One Major reason for my choice of the y410 is that I use a ThinkCentre 8811 with Intel VT option and had a chance to use a T61p (A month with a Nvidia Quadro. =) ) again with Intel VT enabled. Note: I learned my lesson. Always check the Bios aside from the OS setup. I was pondering an XPS 1330 but ended up with the Y410 as I was able to buy a 19 LCD TV with the saved money. Still wishing a bios upgrade in sight as I don't want to think of it as a bad choice. I saw the XPS 1330 and it had an "Intel VT" option. *SOB* ='/Message Edited by jojo_b2 on 05-05-2008 02:28 AM

My Lenovo Y410 was on of the affected systems. After patching, I went back to work on my Virtual Server. I support Sharepoint Servers 2003-2007 and have scaled down copies on my laptop. For some unknown reason, I can now enable the "Enable Hardware Assisted Virtualization" check box on the Virtual PC 2007. Eureka! In my excitement I tried looking at the bios by restarting my PC. But in amazement there was no change on the BIOS GUI. everything was the same no option was there to enable Intel VT. I then went back to windows and checked my VPC and the check box was still there and still modifieable. I don't know who to thank be this might only be a glitch on the patch. But, Thank you! I am proud to say I can now fully utilize my laptop for Play and WORK! As I use VPCs any performance gain is a real bonus for me. =) Note:I am using a Lenovo Y410 with Model 7757-35A: Intel T7300, 4GB, 160 GB, Nvidia 8400M GS. I am not sure if Intel VT will be enabled on other Y410 models. I guess only Lenovo can answer this one. But if this is the case for the Y410 with T8300 processors and Nvidia 8600M VC. This would be another good reason to buy these systems. =) **Intel VT is only available for some T2xxx, and T7xxx series processors and above (e.g. T2300, T710... Read more

Hi! My mother bought this laptop a couple of years ago, and after a year and a half or so it started having problems with some software (you know how mothers are!), so she gave it to a neighbour of hers so that he would format it and reinstall Windows. Originally, the laptop came with Windows 8, and for reasons I don't know, this neighbor deleted all the HDD partitions and install Windows 7 instead; that means you have no way of performing a factory reset. From that moment on, the camera stopped working; it doesn't even appear in the device manager. All other features - audio, video, WiFi, etc. - work properly; it's just the camera which has the problem. So my mother talked to me about this, and I've been trying to solve this issue without success. I tried installing Windows 10; nothing. I tried installing Windows 8.1; nothing. I tried installing the camera drivers, but it says there's nothing to install the driver to. I've read that some people recommend an activation of the camera via BIOS, but I'm unable to find such an option in the BIOS of this computer. Others recommend a Fn + Esc sequence that, to be honest, doesn't even do anything. The thing is that I'm getting crazy with this stuff, and that's why I'm asking you people whether you can help me with this. I'll appreciate any comments regarding this. Thank you in advance!!

Hi, I have two Lenovo G480 laptops bought few months before. It has Core I3 second generation, 4 gb RAM, 500 GB HDD.  Ever since I bought the Laptop perceiving good quality of Lenovo products, I am faced with many issues. First MIC quality is horrible. Second, the Windows 7 is crashing randomly. I have done full re-install two times but still facing the issue repeatedly. Does anybody has solution to this problem? and whether other G480 users facing similar issues? Looking forward to hear from you.

Answer:Lenovo G480 unable to read SDHC card

hi mynorkin,

If you have the Lenovo G480 (type 2184 or 2688) as listed in this pdf data sheet, this doesn't support SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) as the card reader installed on these system is only a 2-in-1 reader which only supports MMC and Secure Digital Card,

As an alternative, you can get a USB Card Reader.

Edit: Added sample usb card reader.

Hope this helps.

Just before the July 29 deadline I updated my Lenovo G40 IdeaPad to Win 10.
Everything appeared fine except that I couldn't get a WiFi link!
Eventually Lenovo "support" advised that there was no available WiFi driver for the G480.
Desperately, I had to uninstall Win 10 and revert to Win 8.1.
Can anyone advise on this. I find it somewhat unbelievable that there isn't a driver for the G480 model - it's not that old.
If anyone can help, I also need advice on how to update to Win 10 beyond the July 29th boundary
Thanks

You may be able to get one directly from the hardware manufacturer or via Windows update. I have an old Ralink RT3090 and they offered a Win 10 driver update and so did Windows Update. An alternative would be to buy a 3rd party USB wireless network adapter that supports Windows 10. I am using a TP-Link T1U (5G only) adapter but I wouldn't recommend it as it has some stability issues.

Desperately, I had to uninstall Win 10 and revert to Win 8.1.

Today, when I was using my laptop, suddenly it stopped running on the AC power supply, and switched to battery instead. The power supply was still connected to the laptop. And now it seems it would run only on the battery. When both the power supply and battery are connected, the laptop works (powered by the battery, not the A/C). The power light blinks white, and the battery light blinks amber, even though the battery has >90% charge (Demo video https://youtu.be/RTTTGqBKVVI )When I unplug the A/C power while the laptop is running, it keeps running just fine on the battery. But the power and battery lights both turn white (not blinking). When I unplug and replug the A/C power, it seems to detect the A/C power for 2-3 seconds, and starts charging, but then goes back to using the battery after that. When I take out the battery, while the A/C is plugged in, the laptop just shuts down. While the laptop is turned off, and I plug the AC power in, the battery lights turns on white. I tried doing the "remove the battery and AC power and hold the power button for 30 seconds" trick, and then tried to run the laptop on AC power. It seemed to run on the AC power for about 30-40 seconds, which is a fairly long duration, but then it shutdown after that (since I didnt have the battery plugged in). I did this only once, maybe I should try again? Can someone help me solve this problem? I hope its not a motherboard issue, because it seems Lenovo doesnt sell the motherboard ... Read more

Hi, i have a lenovo g480 come with pre-install genuine win8 OS. I have replace a new harddisk due to previous harddisk malfunction and i use a genuine copy of win8 to reinstall the OS but it come out this msg."The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key." I have check all related post that show to create a recovery or backup image. But my previous haddisk is out so my question is any way to install back the OS? TQ.

Answer:Lenovo G480 win8 can't reinstall after harddisk replace

hi chris89,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The Disc and the Product Key may not be a match.

The Product key is Stored in the BIOS way back from Lenovo Factory.
the Product key is an OEM Version and may not work on a Retail version of Windows 8.

You may need to call Lenovo Technical Support in your location on how to get the Recovery CD for your system. (fees may apply)
You can let them know that the Harddrive Crashed and you replaced it with a Blank Harddrive.

I?m sorry to hear that the BIOS update is not getting installed and displaying an error message ?The version of rom file isn't newer than version of BIOS?. As it is Y480 and you have tried to install the exact BIOS firmware the issue may be with the version that is already installed in the computer, hence the BIOS updated is not required for this specific model computer.

Answer:Lenovo G480 Blue Screen Of Death on startup continuous.

Hi Henry,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your G480 Laptop is displaying BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) error while turning the computer ON, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and BIOS reset. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue
Now access the BIOS menu press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer should automatically restart. Please check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Answer:My Lenovo G480 laptop is stuck saying preparing for automatic repair.

hi Lil_bossy_bunny,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community

If the computer was unexpectedly shutdown especially while doing updates or If you have added a new software or hardware on the PC but wasn't successful, the Operating System is probably corrupted. What you can do is:

1. Boot into Last Known Good Configuration (keep tapping F8 after turning ON the PC)Spoiler (Highlight to read)
2. If that doesn't work, choose Safe Mode and see if it'll boot. If it works, perform a clean boot.

If the problem persists after the above steps, there's a possible problem with the registry and you might want to opt to perform a full restore by pressing the One Key Recovery button.

Note:
Performing the One Key Recovery will wipe everything out on the PC, please proceed after backing up all of your data.

Hope this helps.

Good Afternoon, I'm using a Lenovo G480 i5-3230 with 4GB DDR3 RAM. I recently ran a diagnostic program (CPU-Z) to check the speed of my RAM.  As you can see, the Max BW is only at 800MHz, I also noticed that the Channel # is set to only SINGLE channel, but I thought that the G480 can support dual channel. How do I configure Dual Channel Mode? hi ventrix,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

It's the way CPuz check the RAM

Since it is a double Data Rate you'll have to multiply the CPUZ frequency result in to 2
     800mhz x 2 is 1600mhz
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1745125/cpu-showing-800-frequency.html

Also Dual Channel Triggers when you have two Identical Module.

Hope this helps

Hi, I recently brought a G480 with the B830 cpu and HDD 320GB. I have idea for doing It up to a nicer spec. First I replace the HDD with SSD 512 GB and removed the DVD Drive with HDD 2TB. And I would installed 16gb 1600mhz DDR3 ram. The first upgrade have made a massive improvement. And I think if I upgrade the RAM, it will make massive improvement. Now I want to upgrade the CPU/GPU. Now I know I can't add a dedicated GPU but I want to upgrade to a CPU with HD4000 built in. The laptop is well in spec to take up 35W TDP and dualcore CPU's along with running a HM70 chipset makes for a lot of options. Am I right in thinking to upgrade the proccessor? to i5 or something newer? Will it work? or am I limited by bios? Thankyou so much.

Hello, The Problem:Recently I installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS  to my HDD in UEFI mode. Soon I found out that I could not access the BIOS using F2, but F12 allowed selection of boot device. Reinstalling Windows, I found out that the boot menu still had the Ubuntu entry and I still could not access the BIOS. I searched on the web for a solution and before I could manage to find a proper one, I managed to delete both the ubuntu and windows boot manager boot entries, still locked out of bios. This time I could not boot into any OS, could not access bios using f2 nor access boot menu using f12.  The Solution:There was one last hope, during boot I noticed that PXE (Boot via ethernet option was still showing).Note: This solution requires you to update the BIOS. This is a very risky procedure, so proceed with caution. This will also probably void your warranty. If you can access boot menu (F12) and want to regain access to the BIOS (F2), boot into Windows 7. Install a bios update for your laptop (specifically for your laptop) available at The Lenovo Support Site. The oldest BIOS (probably for Windows 7) is preffered. If you donot have access to windows 7, perform step 2 and boot into the created ISO by creating a bootable CD or pendrive. Then goto step 11.If you can't access F12 and F2, cannot boot into OS, but can boot via Ethernet (there should be a message about trying Atheros Ethernet PXE Boot during startup), start from step 1. sudo efibootmgr -b 0 -BReboot and F2 should work. BIOS should be accessible through F12>Tab>Setup also. Ubuntu will boot no more but can probably be fixed.

Hello!I faced with the next problem. I bought a new Lenovo G560 few days ago. I started to install the XP on it. After first trying i faced the BSOD during the installation of XP. I found on some forums the solution how to fix this issue: problems was in it that this model doesn't see the SATA drivers and can't boot the XP instalaltion. And solution was - go to BIOS ---change there SATA parameters from AHCI to Compatible--Save BIOS and try the installation once more. I did it and all was good. But After installation i tried to enter to the BIOS by clicking F2 but i can't. May be someone faced with that issue? I can enter to the BOOT menu by clicking F12 but can't go to BIOS by clicking F2. It tries to load BIOS but after only black screen and thats all. Windows XP works but i don't know the issue why entering to the BIOS doesn't work. Thank you everyone for any help or usefull information

I've had the problem for some time and have tried various things which I will list below, but have been able to get around it by using another computer, which I now no longer have so I need to try to sort things out.Problem computer : 2004 Dell Dimension 4600 supplied with XP service pack 1 install CDO.S. : Windows XP home service pack 3 regularly updated.Norton AV & Firewall regularly updated and showing no problems.Additional anti-spyware etc..Malwarebytes, A-squared, Spyware Blaster and IE spypad. What happens is this.... Where the new device has come with a installation CD I have followed the manufacturers install instructions, the software from the CD loads fine until it tells me to connect the device to the usb port. When I connect I get the new hardware icon in my task bar and the new hardware wizard pops up as normal. Then, when requested, I try to install new hardware such as a webcam, tv tuner, phone,or a new usb flashdrive into my usb port and the wizard starts going through the process of installing. What service pack is installed on the machine? You need at least service pack 2. Let's start here. Edit, never mind I see you have sp3.

try installing the software with your Norton AV / Firewall disabled.
You should be able to do this by right clicking on the Norton Icon down by your clock.

I am hoping that somebody will be able to help me. Until recently I could install new hardware connected via USB ports no problem. However recently I have had problems installing mobile phones and more recently a USB Bluetooth stick.

Having loaded the software I get the ‘found new hardware’ message box as you would expect but then I get an error message saying that

‘Cannot install this hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware

An error occurred during the installation of the device

The data is invalid’.

I can only think that there is a problem within my windows set up rather than with the individual hardware devices.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I have tried to install 2 different nic's (Belkin F5D5000 and a Linksys LNE100TX) and a Cisco PC350 Airnet card in a WIN2K SP3 machine with no luck. Each time I receive a message that the driver data is invalid or not of the expected type. The device then shows in Device Manager under other devices as not configured correctly, Code 1
My system has an ECS K7S5A mb, 512 mb of Kingston PC2100 ddr, running W2K SP3, Leadtek Geoforce 2 MX Video w/32mb and a SB 512 pci sound, AMD 1800XP+(not overclocked) and the bios is currently set to a PnP operating system.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Ok, I ordered a new DVD Burner and a harddrive. I removed my existing dvd burner and hooked up the new one in its place. I planed on installing the new harddrive, but found out it was a raid hdd and I didnt have a raid card, so i took it out and left my original hdd in the computer. When I turned the computer back up, after loading the dell logo, a black screen came up and said secondary harddrisk drive 1 not found. press f1 to continue or f2 to enter setup. When I press f1 windows, loads, but it doiesnt show either my cd drive, or my new dvd drive when I look in my computer. Any suggestions?

Answer:Problem after installing new hardware

Your system may be using your old CD driver on your new CD/DVD device. Go to Dvice Manager and uninstall your old CD device if it is there and/or your new CD/DVD and reboot.

If XP doesn't find it, you may have installed it improperly. Do you know about Master/Slave jumpers and proper cable placement ?

If so, double check. If not, please provide a list of all your devices, both before and after the change and how they are installed on the cable(s) (end or middle) and how their jumpers are set.

Example:

40 GByte HD IDE1 - End of cable - Master
CD-DVD IDE1 - Middle of cable - Slave
40 Gbyte HD IDE2 - end of cable - slave

etc....
