Hello Forum, I hope I'm posting this in the right place...?

My device:G780 Notebook (M843RGE I3-2370M), Windows 7
Audio Driver: Conexant Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 Version  8.54.32.50 (Smart Audio: 6.0.131.0)

Situation:My headphone jack is broken. Repair is too expensive. Instead, I want to redirect the audio signal to the microphone jack.

Problem:This seems not to be possible with my SmartAudio interface (Screenshot below). But I found a screenshot of exactly the function I need called "Jack Configuration" in the Help section (second screenshot below). It looks like I dont have the right system configuration (whatever that means, I'm not an IT/PC expert ...) to use this feature.

My question:
Is there any way I can reconfigure the audio jacks on my notebook? Do I need another Conexant Audio Driver software and if yes, which one?

I'm grateful for any helpful reaction!
Sebastian

So after 3 years my laptop finally started to show it's age. My headphone jack broke down. Only one headphone is working. No, it's not a headphone issue and neither a OS issue (I checked with other pairs and on Ubuntu). I disassembled the laptop and everything seemed fine, but I guess I gotta change that port to fix everything. Sadly, I couldn't find any original components, but only second hand from other generations. Do you think these one would be able to replace the one I had? (Lenovo G50-30) (Lenovo IdeaPad Z510)

I have a Lenovo G780 laptop, and have had it for over a year, until 2 weeks back, everything was working fine. I started to have problems with the headphone jack where sound only came out of right ear.  Stereo Speakers were working fine. I made sure to go into Sound> Playback devices to make sure the Conexant Smart Audio was working right and the sound to L and R were balanced. I reinstalled the drivers (or what I found) and still it did not help. Now, a few days ago, the headphone jack stopped working completely (speakers still work). I retored my laptop to an earlier restor point (a month back when everything was working fine) and still no effect. Today when I tried to use the built in SD card reader, that I had used many times before, the card  reader would not detect it. I tried other Cards and they did not work either. I tried re installing the realtek drivers and got no effect. In device manager, whenever i insert the card, the wind refreshes, but nothing shows up in My Computer.I take good car of not laptop and there is no visible damage to any part of the laptop. I suspect the board inside is somehow damaged because the jack and card reader are located within a few mm of eachother. I have not yet tried factory restore, but all restore points do not fix the issue.

Answer:headphone jack broken off in headphone plug in

TOMMYSS,
If you purchased complete care from Dell you can call into Dell Alienware Support at 1 (877) 330-9732. If you did not you can possibly take it back to the store you purchased it from to see if they can help you. You can also try removing it yourself. Just make sure that it is unplugged before attempting to remove it.

Assuming it isnt under warranty your best bet is to take it to a pro especially if it is a laptop.

There is a workaround. You could get a USB headset, or a mini din to USB converter.

Now that im completely missing a headphone jack I have two questions. First, is there any way i can disable the jack and force all of the audio to come out of my laptop speakers? and Second, Would i be able to buy a new jack or soundcard and how much would it cost on average? Thank you to anyone who can help.

Answer:How do I get my front case headphone jack to work?

in the manual for the sound card it should list jumpers for front audio. normally there is some discrepency between the labelling on the sound adapter and the cables on the case, so it can be largely trial and error.

I broke my headphone jack last night. I dropped my Y510p while the auxillary chord was still plugged in. A small chunk of plastic and metal fell out the end of the headphone jack. Now my sound isn't working properly. Sound plays from the computer speakers when my headphones/aux chord are plugged in. I have about half the volume I usually do in my headphones/aux chord.  Ideally I would like to replace the headphone jack if possible. I've had this computer for a while and I don't think my warranty would cover it. I would ask Lenovo Support but the webpage seems to not be working. If I can't fix it properly for a reasonable price I will buy a usb sound adapter for it. Does anyone have any experience in this or have any advice for replacing a headphone jack????

The headphone jack broke so now my laptop thinks there is always headphones plugged in even when I take them out. The headphones still work when I plug them in but I am not able to use the internal speakers when I unplug the headphones. Is there anyway to manually turn off the headphone jack or at least have the sound come through both the headphone jack and the internal speakers?

Hi. After some advice please. I have a broken headphone jack stuck in the desktop port. I need some advice on how to remove the broken jack or replace the port. If this is not possible how I can disable the headphone jack to restore external sound to the PC? Had a local chap look at it and said that the jack cannot be removed and to fix it would require a part that he cannot source as part of the motherboard?

I'm always using headphones while on my computer.  Earlier today, my headphone jack no longer works.  Even when the headphones are plugged in, audio only comes out of the speakers.  At first I thought it was an audio driver problem so I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.  It still wasn't working on my Windows 7 drive.  So I then swapped in my XP drive and the audio still wasn't working.  It won't work on my Ubuntu drive either.  I blew some compressed air into the jack but it didn't fix the problem.  Obviously it's an internal hardware problem.  I'm out of my warranty (bought in June 2009, only got a 1-year warranty).  I'm a college student and this is my only computer.  How much will it cost for my laptop to get fixed?  Is it possible for me to make the repair by myself?  Please help.  I'm very distraught.

I have this Compaq Presario A900, i bought it just under a year ago. Approx March/April last year.

Recently the headphone socket/jack whatever you call it has been playing up.
It has always done it but not caused as much problems as it does now.

It used to just make a fuzzy noise if I moved the headphones around in the socket (like twirled it). Now, if I do it or even touch the headphone a bit it immediately turns to speakers and its like as if the headphones were disconnected.

Does anyone have any clue how I could like reattach it more or tighten it or something? It's annoying me since I don't have money to get it repaired and I love music.

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong place or if I've typed it wrong. I'm new.

Answer:Headphone socket/jack broken/loose

I'd say its probably broke inside the laptop. If its still under a year, that should be under warranty. Send it in to HP for repair.

Hi, I've got a pc on which the headphone jack is broken. Trying a usb sound card - looks like a dongle-y thing which sticks in a usb port and has a mic and a headphone jack on it. When plugged in it has a red light which flashes - maybe meaning it's connected? - but when I plug headphones in to it i get no sound. Sorry but I know little about this area. Maybe I need to go into some sort of control panel to tell the system to send sound this way? Any advice would be great. TIA - Terry

Has it occurred to you that it may be the Jack Plug (male), or cable, that is at fault. Rather than the Socket (female) that is at fault?

Hi,

Through obvious neglect I have broken the plastic headphone hack on the front of my A100 till still accept a jack but is barely staying in there.

Anyone know if its easily replaced by myself with a soldering gun and the part? How is it connected to the board?

thanks

Answer:Satellite A100 - Broken headphone jack

Hi!

Normally the headphone jack is soldered/fixed on the mainboard and that means you have replace the whole mainboard. Furthermore the notebook must be disassembled complete and this is a little bit tricky.

In your case I would go to an authorized service provider. Speak with the technician and then you will see what they can do for you and how much it costs. I think this would be the best option.

Bye

Hey guys,So I was working on my HP Pavillion notebook and I accidentally tangled my earphone around my neck and broke them, leaving the headphone 3.5mm tip in the audio jack.        I tried everything to remove it, I soldered the end of the broken piece back onto it and tried to pull it out but couldn't, I tried super glue, and glue gun but everything failed. I even contacted and reached out the service centre in my city but they said they will charge me for the whole board coz they won't fix it and instead they will replace it (even though my laptop was only 2 months old). I have given up on getting rid of the broken piece and want any of you guys to help me changing my driver. I tried to uninstall the audio jack from device manager and enabled the speakers but it still won't work I tried several ways to contact HP support but they are out of reach and won't have a similar issue on its forums and guides. if you guys could help me out, that would be amazing.Thank you!.

I use headphones for medical transcription. Today, they fell off the table after I took them off, and pulled at the headphone jack. Now, I can only hear sound from the headphones, but not from the laptop speakers. Is there a way to take apart the laptop in order to see if the headphone jack is cracked, or if it moved? If I plug in the headphone jack and jiggle it I can get sound from my laptop speakers, but once I take the headphone connector out of the jack, all sound is gone again from the laptop speakers. My laptop is still under warranty, but we don't want to send it out for repair unless it is absolutely necessary. Please help us -we would like to be able to fix this problem ourselves as money is short, and I need the laptop to be here so I can do my medical transcription. Thanks!

Hey, my headphone jack is cracked all around and the sound through my headphones goes from one side to two. Purchased laptop at Best Buy for a lot only to have it fall apart.  It has been sitting on my desk with a post it that says don't move.  You should expect to have good merchandise from HP without feeling like you purchased a lemon.  When it first happend I searched and found nothing.  Something told me to give it a try again and search and I see hundreds of reports of the same problem UGH! OBVIOUSLY bad design.  There probably is not one person that has this device that has not run into this problem.  The big question is, what will HP do for me.  We have a house full of hp laptops and this one s the only one with this poor failed design.  HELP, Laptop has years of life but can't be used because the hindges/case is falling apart.

I bought a Sunbeam Trio computer case a year ago and it has a headphone jack in the front. I plug my headphones into it and it gives me all kinds of noises (amplifies hard-drive activity, can hear fan motion, and general annoying high pitched hissing). Its not much a problem when I have music blasting but it is when I have them on and nothing is playing.

I'd really like the convenience of front port head phone access but will plug it into the back if need be. The thing is, the sound inputs on the back of the case (from motherboard) don't work. I've tried fixing it but it wont output sound.

My question is, is it common for computer cases with front headphone jacks to give extra feedback noises through headphones compared to plugging into a sound card? Does my problem have to do with the case itself, the motherboard, or something I did wrong?

Also, would buying a cheap PCI soundcard and plugging it into the back probably fix my problem? I want to be able to plug my headphones and listen to music without any extra noise coming out of them except music

Answer:Super annoying problem with headphone jack on front of case

Hello, I have a problem, which many people probably have encountered at some point.

I have this Asus K73SV notebook, but the incident happened - my headphones jack broke and is now stuck inside my notebook. Unfortunately, I can't get it out and my computer still considers that little piece as headphones so my internal speakers makes no sound.

How can I make this work? I have Realtek drivers and I don't have that option where I could disable that jack, doesn't matter which version or from where I download those drivers. And I can only see speakers through my control panel.

I saw there is an option where you can use ForceDisableJD in registry, but there is no such option in my registries.
What should I do? I tried to fix this for the whole day and I'm completely lost.
Thanks in advance.

P.S. Sorry for bad english.

Try a magnet to see if you can get the broken plug out. You can also try to super glue something to the plug and see if you can pull it out.

The headphones jack on laptop just broke... i've tried twisting the plug a little bit and it worked for a couple of minutes but now it doesn't .

I want to know if there is a way I can to use the microphone jack as a headphone jack.

If it's not possible... there's another jack to the right of the headphones jack with the symbol resembling this: ((*-))
Can i use that one, too?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Broken Headphone Jack (Dell Inspiron 8100)

You need to buy/acquire a 3.5mm stereo screw plug.

There`s no point trying to mess with the mic plug.Even if you could
connect it,you`d only get mono.

The other socket you refer to,is most likely a Line IN.

The part where you plug the headphones into the tower broke off into the front headphone jack, I then opened up the tower and pushed it out but there is still no sound coming threw the speakers. Now my question is this, regarding the spring, Does it have to be fully extended for the computer not too think anything is in the jack or not? The Spring is still in, but when looking into the hole there is a metal piece that is push over too the left as in the hold is closed, should it be pushed back? (re-bent) or something too that effect.

And if no body knows the answer too this, any way to just disconnect that whole headphone jack to i can have sound threw my speakers again. Running on a Dell Dimension 4600C

thank you

My laptop is having a weird problem since last week.prob :When I plug in headphone through the audio jack , can't hear sound on left ear , but can hear on right side. When I plug out , Sound comes out from the speakers fine. When I pull out the headphone a bit , I can hear sound on left side but not on right side. I tried with lots of diff headphones with no avail ..all same probs.I disabled the audio device and enabled back but still no fix. Yest to my surprise it worked fine with both side of my headphone. But today again one ear not working. I updated the driver too. The driver is conexant smartaudio HD.My specs :core i5 2.5 ghz4 gb ramgt 630mwin 7 64 bit sp 1p.s : It detects when I plug in headphones .The volume icon actually changes in notification area in bottom right when I plug in the headphones.

Answer:Lenovo G780 Audio Jack problem

hi dauhak,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try to:
1. Open the Control Panel (large icon view) > Conexant Smart Audio and adjust the volume bar to the middle and test.
   -  Link to picture

2. Plug-in the headphone but don't insert it all the way. If you get sound on one ear, try to slowly insert the audio plug and twist it -  if this works, the audio plug is most likely not making contact to the audio jack.
   - Link to picture

3. Remove the sound driver and let Windows install the generiic one and observe.

Let me know your findings

Regards

It's quite possible sufficient damage was done, either by the plug getting stuck or the work in removing it, that the contacts inside the jack have been forced into cutting the speakers circuits off as happens when plugging into it. From the number of Notebooks I've had to junk and take apart first I'd say the only real solution is a new motherboard or a new Notebook. If it were a Desktop one can disable the onboard audio system and get an Add-in Sound card. Or maybe try the USB type speakers.

I have a Lenovo G780 and my heaphone jack is broken. I do have a USB interface that I use for mixing music that allows me to use headphones, but that's not always convenient. Stock sound card and driver. Is there a way to reroute sound so that I can use my microphone jack as an audio out? I think I've tried everything short of opening her up and messing with the wiring. Any help would be appreciated

Answer:Lenovo G780 2182 Bottom Case Base Cover

hi romaneg,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums. I'm sorry to hear what happened..

Take a look at this G780 Maintenance Manual and check the parts you need.
Check corresponding part numbers online or through Lenovo there in your locations.
I'm sure you'll find the partnumber there's in your area.

If you wish to call Lenovo Technical Support in your area, Go to this Link and change the country setting to get the numbers.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi,It seems that the headphone jack on my Lenovo Z40 has started to fail. I have to fiddle around with headphone cables to get proper sound, and my speaker doesn't produce any sound (presumably because the computer thinks headphones are plugged in). What are my options for repair? I assume the headphone jack is part of a board, how much would it cost to repair it?Thanks!

I really need some help! My headphone jack has been working fine but today I went to plug my headphones in and there was an odd click before it went in, and now nothing plays at all. I get the popup saying that they are in though and when I take them out? I tried the headphones in my iPod and they work with that so the laptop has issues.

Hi All: i have thus far been unable to confirm if the headphones jack on the right side is a headphones ONLY jack or a combo microphone/headphones jack.   It would make no sense to put in a headphones ONLY jack, but stranger things have happened in this world. I've seen conflicting reports.    May I ask for a definitive confirmation please? Thanks in advance.

So whenever I plug in my headphones to my laptop while I'm watching a video a notification comes up telling me that I just plugged in my headphones. It's useless information and I know how to turn it off but the real problem is that when that message comes up my sound goes away for a few seconds. Even when I turn off the notification there's still a sound delay and I don't hear a thing for a few seconds. Is there any way to fix this? It's also the 13 inch model.

I have a problem with this port other than it being very frustrating. I just bought the Hyper X Revolver headset, and since it is a combo jack I bought a splitter with the plugs for headphone/mic and the one end to plug into the computer. When I plug it in, the computer shows that I have plugged something into the jack. The sound is working just fine, but the microphone WILL NOT WORK. I have tried everything. Anyone else had the same problem with this piece of junk port? If so, how can I fix this? Thanks!

Hi, I have a Lenovo U400 running Windows 7 that I really like; however, somehow the switch internal to the headphone jack has become confused and thinks the headphones are plugged in when they are not, and not plugged in when they are. I have tried disabling and re-enabling within Windows as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the driver from Lenovo. The connection is snug like it should be, and wiggling, or inserting / removing an 1/8 audio plug seems to make no difference. If headphones are connected, it thinks there not, and if headphones are not connected, it thinks they are. Please help?

So the headphone jack on my U530 is not working at all. No prompt; it seems the laptop does not even recognize that there is a headphone plugged in. I started having issues with the headphone port not working, but the prompt in the bottom right would at least pop up, and all I had to do was restart my computer to fix the issue. Now, nothing seems to work. Please help! most of what I do uses audio, and it's imperative that I get this solved ASAP.

Hey everyone. First time posting so go easy on me. I've had my y510p for almost two years now and have no problems with it, absolutely love it. Sure touchpad is weird and a little too sensitive but minor details. Now I'm having a problem with the headphone jack. It works but it is currently starting to fall out. Every time I unplug my headphones the headphone jack comes out maybe halfway (not sure how long it actually is). Would there be a fix to this? It works but I am worried it will completely fall out one day. Would ask Lenovo but I'm not the biggest fan of the way they do their customer support. Also I do not have warranty on it anymore so I can just have it sent in. Any info on a fix would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone.

Answer:Lenovo y510p Headphone Jack falling out

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

From what you have described it sounds like the round plastic part of the audio port is coming out with the headphone jack when you unplug it.  If this is correct then the plastic part of the headphone jack is broken.    The only solution to the problem would be to replace the audio / USB board that contains the headphone and microphone ports along with the USB port.  The required part along with the part number is: QIQY6 USB Board W/Cable N14P(Y510p) 90002737.

If you do not wish to send it to Lenovo for service you could try using a local Lenovo Authorized Service Provider for the repair or consult with a local computer repair shop.  The link below is for the locator of an local authorized service provider.  Just enter in your city and check the box for Warranty Service Provider for a listing of local repair places.

http://bplocator.lenovo.com/

Page #85 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual show the part in detail.  It would be item #10 in the picture.  Here is a link to that manual for your reference...

Hello, A costumer brought an E530 laptop with a problem with the sound: when you plug in earphones/headphones in the jack on the right side nothing happens. The sound continues to be played by the computer speakers and nothing is heard on the earphones. Juggling a bit with the jack I was able to make it work if I don't insert the plug all the way in and move it a bit. So, I asked for a replacement part for that board. I got the new one today and same thing is happening: sound only goes out through speakers unless I jiggle a bit the plug. I know is not a Windows issue because same thing happens if I boot the computer with a Linux Live CD. Do you have any suggestions on what could be happening? Or I just got a faulty part and I need to request a replacement to Lenovo? I don't think that the issue is located within the systemboard seeing that moving the jack makes it work. Sortof...

System Thinkpad T500. originally surnished with Vista Professional. HD replaced with Win 7 SP1 image by 3rd party refurbisher. Audio was working and playing through Bluetooth headphone. It was a bit choppy so I checked the Conexant device driver in device manager. It was the 10/02/2009 version and there were 2 Conexant devices listed. I went to Lenovo site (T500 disappered from selection panel a few days ago) and found the driver by searching on T500 and a newer version was available. The Readme indicated that installation over the existing driver was OK so I did not do an uninstall. I did a manual installation. Device manager shows the same driver version and date as before. I extracted the new driver into a dedicated directory and pointed update driver to it. It said I already had that driver installed. There is only one Conexant device listed in device manager and the headphone option disappered from the Conexant control panel. Bluetooth head phone still connects but no sound comes through them and there is no control for them on the Conexant mixer panel. Any ideas to try will be appreciated. I have legal Win 7 but no restore disk. I would revert back to the original drivers if I knew how.

Hello, I recently purchased a Y40 laptop (and just received it two days ago). Today was my first time trying out the audio combo jack.  However, I quickly discovered to my dismay that the combo jack was broken. I connected in my headphones, which fit rather loosely and fell out of the jack as soon as I took the pressure off of it. I then tried a variety of other headphones, earphones, etc. All of them fell out, having notably fit rather loosely.  While I pressed on my headphones (to hold them in), I DID get a notification on screen that I was plugging somehting in. When I released my headphones (and they fell out), I then got a noification that I was unplugging something. So I don't think this is a software problem.  I did already see the previous posts (regarding the Y50s), the solutions posed don't seem likely to help. Any advice would be appreciated--I am heading off to college soon and would like to have this situation under control before that happens! Slightly panicking.  Thanks!

Hi MRC1980 and welcome to the Community,

The good news is that the power jack is not soldered to the motherboard.  It sits in a housing and is attached to the board by a cable and plug.

The bad news is that you will have to disassemble the laptop totally to get to the jack.  There aren't any disassembly pictures or instructions that I could find.  The only thing I could find on youtube was to clean the fan.

Hello,

I just purchased a new notebook, and I have a bit of a problem. When I plug headphones into the side headphone jack, the sound quality is downright terrible. Very shortly I noticed that it didn't sound as good/decent as my older notebook.

The speakers seem to sound fine, well you know - as good as laptops can sound.

Right now I have two notebooks side by side:
a friends Samsung Series 3 (NP300E5C), with Windows 8 (upgraded from W7) / Microsoft High Definition audio
my Toshiba L50 Windows 8 / Realteck High Definition

I dont have my older notebook anymore, but I do remember it sounding better. Comparing this Toshiba to the Samsung (both sitting on the desk side-by-side), the Toshiba sounds a little better through the speakers, but there is no comparison with the headphone - The Samsung is pretty decent while the Toshiba makes me cry.

Now granted, I'm not expecting a symphony, but if I cant solve this I'm going to have to sell the Toshiba.

I've tried uninstalling Realtek, but I couldn't get the sound to work.
Re-installing Realtek solved nothing

One thing I noticed, there is no 'headphone' icon in the device manager (Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound / or simply right click the audio icon in the taskbar). Are the headphones not high definition or something?

Hi!I recently got my hands on my friend's old laptop that hadn't been used for a year. The problem with the G510 was the power jack. It was pushed back and repaired multiple times by professionals but still didn't completely work.I thought that if i bring the power jack outside the laptop it would work. But it doesn't. I plug in the charger and nothing, no led lights no fan no sound. The same charger worked on another computer. So i removed the power jack and i saw no external problem with it. I don't have a multimeter. Next i thought the power jack doesnt really cost much, but then again, the shipping costs would be overwhelming and i can't afford it at the moment.I also tried turning it on with only one memory card, done the 30second thing, charging without battery in case the problem was there but still nothing. The silence is killing me.Could there be any way to charge the battery outside the laptop? Or do you have any other ideas i could try?

Hi, I am having issue with my power input jack (connected to the adapter) where the laptop power supply connector keeps falling out after i plug it in. From what you have described it sounds like the plastic parts that hold the power jack secure have broken.  If that is true then you will need to replace the base cover of the computer as it is all one piece.  You can call Lenovo Support to see if the part is available and what the pricing is.  Otherwise do a search on eBay as these types of parts frequently are listed for sale.

hi !
ASUS X42F, laptop with combined microphone in / headphone out jack,
how can i connect both a microphone & a headphone ?

Answer:Laptop with combined mic/headphone jack, how to connect both mic & headphone ?

I haven't used one that had the port as a combined unit but I would assume you would need a headphone set with mic that has combined wiring, such as sets used for cell phones and such. You can also purchase an adapter that will split the port into 2 ports for mic and headphones.
Hope that gives you an idea

Hello Eight Forums.

My trouble is the audio output through headphones - background is louder than foreground (especially in music - I often cannot hear the vocals at all; movies however are mostly fine, for reasons unknown to me; but generally, the sound is always different in some way).

I only have one pair of headphones to test it with. However these always worked fine with previous machines, and still do work fine with my iPhone 4. Although they are surely not the case, I cannot with confidence say that if it were a loudspeaker instead things wouldn't have been different.

So this is either a software or a hardware issue.

Software

My computer (details at the bottom) came with a SoundBlaster X-Fi MB3 equalizer program and RealTek High Def Audio drivers. I've uninstalled SoundBlaster hoping it would fix the issue (I didn't need an extra program like that anyway) but alas to no avail. Updating the RealTek drivers did no good still.

The only thing I haven't touched is the ghostly NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (can it be the source of my trouble?) - I only first noticed it now when copy/pasting the Belarc data. I'll try and find out about it in the meanwhile.

Hardware

I wonder if it perhaps has something to do with my audio jack (laptop's brand new, but you can never know). I have what appears to be mic, headphone, S/PDIF and line in jacks... Is there a way to use the microphone or the line-in to test the headphones? To see if the headphone out is broken.

Any help appreci... Read more

Answer:Messed up headphone audio; want to check headphone jack

First, the "My System Specs" is where you fill in what you have.

Does the internal speakers on the laptop work? Is the audio OK on the internal speakers?

The SoundBlaster program(s) is a software enhancement to the basic audio chip (ReaklTek). Many PC's now come with some type of enhancement such as the SoundBlaster or in the case of HP PC's its "Beats Audio".

Has anyone else had this problem? My retailer Currys PC World contacted Lenovo in the UK who said this fault was not covered by the Warranty. My retailer told me a previous customer had had the same fault recently and was charged one third of the laptop purchase price to have it fixed by Lenovo UK's approved supplier, I think this is a ripoff.

Answer:Lenovo G580 Laptop Power Input Jack becomes loose inside case

hi RBuc,

Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!

For loose DC jack the issue may not only be the DC jack port it self, Sometimes it may be the plastics that holds the Jack in to place, or sometimes the inside of the port is loose,

When you send a computer to Lenovo they would still check and investigate  the issues first for possible Physical damage like cracks or dents.

If I may suggest, If you can have a local tech check whats wrong with your unit then you can order parts online and have your tech install it.

Hope this helps,

Well, I uninstalled my audio drivers and noticed that there was a red led shining from inside the 3.5mm headphone jack, which I assume is a mini optical audio (digital) combo 3.5mm audio (analog) jack, and I am figuring that it determins if there is an optical plug or not using drivers, which is why it turned on when I unistalled my audio drivers. I would like to know for sure before I go and buy a mini optical to toslink adpater cable so I can get better audio quality out (the digital interface does not suffer from the interference that the analog does right?). I did some research (research is a bit of an overstatement) and found no sites that mentioned it, so I have decided to turn to the forums. So, is this an optical jack combo? And, how will it work in terms of the drivers, will it just auto select? Thanks.

Hi, I just bought a dell 5567 laptop. The problem is that when I try to connect ordinary 3.5mm earphones  to my laptop's headphone port it doesn't go all the way in. Do I need an adapter for this?

Answer:3.5 mm headphone jack won't fit in headphone/mic combo jack.

JSmith887Do I need an adapter for this?
No it should go in. We have been getting reports of tight jacks. Don't know if it's a quality control issue. Try some different ones and insert more firmly than normally.
If none will go in all the way, but you do hear the audio, I wouldn't be too concerned. If not getting audio (the selection popup does not appear) because it won't go in, then contact tech support or send it back.

Hello, today the case of my Lenovo Y570 Laptop has broken at the upper right corner (above the right speaker). This is the second time it has been broken at this spot. As it happened the first time, i got repaired by one of lenovos repair partners (medion). The repair translucent says that this were use-related terms of use. This time i am think about to use some glue (or something like this, ie a longer screw) and repair it by myself. But if i do this, will my warranty get lost? Are there any other options than sending it to a repair partner (because i dont see any significant reason by sending it in, only to recieve the same statement as the last time it happend).  (Please forgive my bad english, i am not using it daily..) Thank you for your replies so long, acuh

Standard headphone that fits iPhone and other laptops will not plug all the way into jack.  Audio continues to come from speakers.  I'm finding many others across boards that have this same issue.  HP says 3.5 will fit but it does not.

Hi @chadhogan121 Welcome to the HP Support Community! I saw your post regarding the problems with sound only coming out on one side of the headphones. I will be happy to help you with that. Have you tried a different set of headphones to see if the same thing happens? This HP document No Sound from Speaker will show you how to use the built-in Windows troubleshooter. Give that a try.

I am wondering if theres some program I have to run to make it work correctly. Also why is there not a microphone jack?

I had to have the hard drive replaced in my computer due to a defect in the drive. Ever since the hard drive was replaced, the head phone plug-in that is on the face of the tower does not work, but the speaker plug-in that is located in the back of the tower, works just fine.

I cannot figure out what is wrong. The audio driver installed for my system was obtained from the Dell website along with the majority of my other drivers.
Any help would be great.

My speakers on my Yoga 2 Pro work fine.  Today, I plugged in headphones and only sound came through the right ear side.  I checked the headphones themselves with my phone and they worked fine.  I got earbuds out to test them.  The earbuds had sound only coming out on the left side.  Again, tested the earbuds with my phone and they worked fine.  It is the headphone jack in the Yoga Pro for sure.  Suggestions?

Alright, so here's the problem. I just recently got this computer and plugged it into the VGA port and the sound wouldn't work. I plugged Logitech External Speakers into it and the computer didn't even acknowledge that it was there. I plugged in Headphones to see if those worked and they didn't aswell. I asked the guy who I got the computer from and he said that it (sound) would work when plugged in using HDMI. So I did that and the sound does work, but only through the TV speakers. It still doesn't acknowledge the speakers or the headphone s when plugged in. So I wen t and grabbed some other speakers I had and tried those and It still didn't recognize the speaker. My question is: How Do I Get My Computer To Recognize My Speakers? Any help would be much appreiciated.

In December of 2015 I bought my daughter a Lenovo 300-15ISK IdeaPad. In many ways it was a good laptop, but it wasn't durable and I wouldn't buy another one. After 5 months (May 2016) part of the housing around the power connection was broken. Because of this the power cord wouldn't plug in all the way and the IdeaPad wouldn't charge. I took it back to where I had purchased it (MicroCenter) to be repaired. I was told that this type of repair was not covered by the warranty, and the price they quoted me was over $300 (about 3/4 of what I paid for the laptop). I was upset that the repairs weren't covered and that they were so expensive. Other places near me had similar prices for this repair. Luckily I was able to jury-rig a solution so the power connection would stay in place and the IdeaPad could be plugged in and charged. My solution lasted until late 2016 before I needed to adjust it again. That 'solution' lasted until this March before it failed again. This time the power connection became detached from the interior of the laptop. So I opened up the laptop in order to fix it again. This IdeaPad was clearly not designed to be repaired -- opening it up was an adventure which strained my abilities and patience. I was able to reconnect the power connection and reclose the laptop, but the IdeaPad will no longer start. So I am left with a bricked IdeaPad, a poor opinion of the durability of Lenovo products, and a worse opinion of Lenovo warranty terms.

I purchased  a  3.5mm 4 Position TRRS Male to 2x 3 Position TRS Female Headset Splitter Adapter for my hyperx cloud headphones to plug into my XPS 15, except the microphone isn't working when its plugged in.
When I plug them in a window comes up 'which device did you plug in?' Mic in, Line in, Dell Devices (lists random unknown devices to me), Headphones/headset - headphones medium, external speakers - external speakers medium. Are these details correct? should something about the microphone come up also? I go to sound options, recording and it's still using the microphone in the laptop.
I tested the headphones on another laptop without the jack and the microphone on the headset is working great. So it's either the splitter isn't doing it's job... or something to do with the laptop, any ideas?

Answer:XPS 15 9560 Headphone jack function as a mic jack?

Well for your case, the headSET option would be correct, since that means a device that offers both headphones (audio out) and a mic -- but note that you do apparently also have a Mic In option, though this would prevent audio output to the headphones.  However, if selecting the headset option isn't working, the issue with the TRRS "standard" is that it isn't a standard. The industry never agreed on which pins would be used for which connectors (Ground, Mic, Left Audio, Right Audio).  I think Samsung did it one way and Apple did it another, for example, and this of course causes interoperability issues.  So if choosing "headset" isn't working, it's probably because the XPS is expecting Option A and your splitter is wired for Option B.Theoretically, given that the audio chipset allows the pins to be dynamically assigned to various purposes depending on the device that's plugged in, it MIGHT be possible to have a "Headset" and "Headset (Alternate Mode)" device option in order to accommodate both TRRS configurations, but I seem to recall one of the TRRS implementation differences being where the Ground pin was placed, and maybe that pin can't be reassigned simply via software, which might explain the absence of such an option. Sorry!

Hi,

I am using a Tiny Media Notebook PIII, 700, Windows 98 SE. The computer is about four years old, and by now the headphone jack, which I use as my sound out port, is about fryed. The contacts have deteriated, and I can not replace the jack, as it is connected to the motherboard. Thus, aside from opting for a usb sound out, such as taking up the Soundblaster MP3+ option, I was wondering if I could reprogram the way in which sound is connected to external devices such as headphones. There are three jacks on the front of my computer: the headphone jack, the microphone jack and er I think it is a line out jack - the later jack which I have never used. Is there anyway I can swop/substitute the connection via the headphone jack say for the microphone jack or line out jack. Is there anyway I could do this?

Answer:Substituting the headphone jack with the microphone jack

No, afraid not. Each jack has it's own circuitry which provides for the needed resistance and other parameters. What you could do, if you got to the mobo itself, is to physically replace the jack but that's a major pain on a laptop.

You can try two things, one is to use alcohol and a Q-Tip to thoroughly clean the jack, then use a small bit of steel wool to sand inside with and then again with the alcohol and two, if the jack's worn too big for a tight connection, is to go to Radio Shack and buy a plug in adapter for that size jack. Some come with a slightly oversized male end and then you could plug into the female end and have a tight connection.

I'd like to plug my speakers into the back speaker jack and headphones to the front jack. I can't do this and have both work at the same time. I have a cheapo Insight speaker with a volume puck that lets me plug a headphone jack but then the speakers turn off.

Seems to me with front panel and rear panel jacks I should be able to do this but so far, I'm stumped.

Any ideas?

Answer:How to configure headphone jack and speak jack together

Depends on the sound card you got. Realtek HD Audio Manager has a Device Advanced Settings option at top right, You can un-tick "Mute rear output ..." and see if it works.

I currently own a G780 with two separate jacks for the headphones and microphone, but own a headset designed for a combo jack. Is there any way to edit the settings to allow one jack to function for them both? Alternatively are there any adaptors that can split the headset's connector? I seem to only be able to find splitters for the opposite of what I need.

Answer:G780 and Combo Jack for Headsets

hi AdroxNight,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I belive there will be no setting or options to do what you need.

As an alternative you can get these splitters

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Uldum-mobile-phone-headphones-computer-splitter-two-3-5mm-jack-to-one...

This splits your combojack Headphone to two male connector for mic and Sound.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Answer:Headphone jack to PC audio jack.

If the Recorder as a output jack, you need by one that as that size of jack, also check if it needs stereo or mono to a input jack that is stereo to fit the input of the Laptop i.e microphone jack socket
