Lenovo G580 - Unable to determine Warranty Status

Question: Lenovo G580 - Unable to determine Warranty Status

Hi, I have recently bought a Lenovo G580. Lenovo Solution Center has a permanent warning saying it is 'Unable to determine the warranty status'. I have been onto the Lenovo support site, check warranty status page and enter the serial number, it says 'Machine Type and Serial not found in iBase'. What does this mean? How can I check the warranty status (bought from a reputable retailer, so I assume there's some kind of warranty attached) and how can I get rid of this message out of Lenovo Solution Center?!Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Lenovo G580 - Unable to determine Warranty Status

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I keep getting reminders that the status for my Thinkcentre M92z warranty is unable to be determined according to the Lenovo Solution Center. I just checked the warranty status at the recommended site and I still have almost a year left. Is there a way to update this so I don't keep getting the reminders?

Hi All.

I have been facing this issue since last two weeks.

I have Lenovo 580. Currently in Windows 7 - x64.

Suddenly both my USB 3.0 ports stopped working. I tested by inserting multiple pen drives, external hard discs and they weren't even getting the power.

When I go to Device Manager, under Universal Serial Bus Controller -> There is an exclamation mark next to : Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller.

Read few posts here, tried installing all sorts of drivers from Lenovo, Intel.
Thinking that OS reinstallation would help, I installed Windows 10, 8.1, 8 & now in 7.
But the ports aren't getting the required power or detected.

I am sure I am missing something. Can someone please help me or point me to the right direction to fix this ? :-(

Thank you in advance.

Answer:G580 - USB 3.0 Ports - Unable to start - Code 10 - Lenovo G580 - Windows 7, 8, 8.1 & 10. Please help...

hi icykash,

From the steps that you've tried, it does look like there's a hardware problem on the USB 3.0 ports (especially if you're getting Code 33 or 43 from the Device Manager).

Error codes in Device Manager

Last thing that you probably try:
1. Run the Hardware devices are not working  or the Diagnose and fix Windows USB problems tool from microsoft.

2. Shutdown the machine, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then hold the power button for 20secs (this drains any electric charge that's left on the machine).

When finished, plug-in the AC adapter and turn on the machine then hit F2 to boot into the BIOS. Once In the BIOS, hit F9 to load default settings then hit F10 to save and exit (this resets the hardware configuration of the machine to default).

When the machine boots back into Windows, check if the USB 3.0 ports are now working,

In case this still doesn't fixes the issue then I recommend you will need to send the unit for service.

I purchased a Lenovo G580, included with Windows 8, which I'm not particularly fond of. Would I be voiding the warranty if I formatted it's Hard Drive and installed Windows 7? Thanks,Josh.

Answer:Voiding Warranty: Lenovo G580.

hi TheMophead,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community

You will not void the hardware warranty of your computer if you decide to downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7 but the support that you'll get with the pre-installed softwares & drivers will be limited only to the operating system that came with your computer. You can find more info regarding the warranty policies here - http://tinyurl.com/c5t63pj -

Note:
Be careful in wiping your hard drive partition as it may contain drivers or recovery files. Consider doing a backup, see http://tinyurl.com/c2zc8a5 on how to a recovery image.

Hope this helps

Hi, firstly apologies if this is the wrong place to post this.I have had my G580 for around a year now, and sent it to be repaired under warranty 2 weeks ago after it suddenly wouldn't turn on. I was told by a pc repair shop that the connection between charge point on the laptop and mobo was  broken, but didn't let them attempt to repair it. Having waited a while with no response, i rang yesterday and was told that i was sent a qoute for repairs ten days ago (never received). I was also told that this qoute included parts for a new LCD screen, new card reader, and a new keyboard. These are all things that were working fine when it was sent in.So my question is, is there any way to dispute these costs or parts? i was told they could have broken in transit, however i wrapped the unit in 2 layers of bubble wrap, and another 3 layers of cardboard. It was extremely secure. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

After reading the latest news on the Lenovo LSE (Lenovo Service Engine) and suggested BIOS updates I need some clarification. Does updating your BIOS from a download on a Lenovo Support page specifically for one?s laptop invalidate one?s warranty? I assume not but I just want to know for sure. I have a Lenovo Edge 15. There is a BIOS update listed for my Edge 15 that just came out 8/12/15.

I read a quote in an article from The Guardian on the web stating that Lenovo encourages their users update their BIOS to the latest firmware: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/aug/14/lenovo-service-engine-pre-installed-security-super...   I just want to make sure that doing so does not invalidate the warranty.

I appreciate your answer.

Thanks.

Would you be installing Window 7 or Windows 8 ?
What would be the message and at what part of the installaion would it fail?

For Windows 7 and below , best set UEFI in BIOS as EFI / Legacy only, CSM is enabled and on exit tab , set OS optimized to other OS instead.

See how it goes with these settings.

Hi

I got a new Lenovo G580 laptop which did not come with any pre-installed OS. I installed Ubuntu in UEFI mode (I had not disabled UEFI/Secure Boot). Later I installed Windows 7. During installation it asked me to format the entire format as it did not recognize the GPT partition. Accordingly without thinking twice I erased the entire HDD and installed Windows 7. Now I am unable to enter into BIOS

Things I have tried:
Tried with F2, F1 and Delete keys while booting
Tried removing the battery and booting while pressing the above keys individually
Tried removing the battery and adapter, held the power button for 1 minute
Tried removing the battery and held the power button for 1 minute while the adapter was plugged in
Tried pressing F12 and going to the APP MENU but I can only see "Diagnostic Splash" Nothing else and in that diagnostic splash screen I see that the System BIOS is "shadowed"
How can i gain access to BIOS so I can disable UEFI and install Win 7 and Ubuntu side by side

Hi, I installed Windows 8 (64bit) on my new Lenovo G580 laptop which originally had DOS OS. After Windows 8 installation, I am unable to access BIOS settings when pressing F2 nor able to see boot menu when pressing F12 during machine startup. I also checked the advanced boot menu of Windows 8 which has safe mode and other options. Still no where I find an option to enter BIOS or update the Boot sequence of my laptop. Please assist!! Thanks,Bhavin

Answer:Unable to access BIOS - Lenovo G580 (2689)

Hi, I had this problem but it's actually not a fault, just a different way of doing things in Windows 8. I'm not on my Win 8 machine at the moment so can't check the exact sequence to follow, but I think it if you go into the charm bar, click pc settings, then advanced, there are some options in that menu for allowng the F2 button to work when booting.  I enabled it and was able to see the F2 option on rebooting and access the bios. Sorry if you've already tried this.  There's a thread on here giving more precise instructions, if you can find it!

I purchsed a Lenovo G580 a couple of days back. I installed my Windows XP SP3 on it. For the last 2 days I am trying to get my Laptop up and running but without much success. The Wireless Driver does not work at all. I tried installing the driver that got shipped with the Laptop (Driver DVD) without success. I tried downloading the Drivers available on Lenovo Site, but they dont work either. the WLAN9.2 for XP throws an error setup not found.I checked the FN+F5 key. It shows that the Wierless Card is enabled. But I cannot see the Wireless icon (serching for wireless networks) on the Taskbar. Can someone please help me sort this issue? Or is this laptop not built for XP at all? Thanks and regardsSayantan

Answer:UNABLE TO INSTALL WIRELESS DRIVER ON LENOVO G580 ON WINDOWS XP

hi Sayantan,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

Can you try to:
1. Click Start > Run > type services.msc. Navigate to Wireless Zero Configuration set the status to Started
2. Click Start > Run > type devmgmt.msc. Navigate to Network Adapters and check if the wireless card is properly installed. If you don't see any and you see Network Controller on Other Devices, your wireless card driver may not be installed. Download and install Aida 64 Extreme to identify the WLAN module and the right wireless driver to install(see spoiler for example)

Hi,

But the problem came when I tried to install windows 7 64-bit on the laptop using a DVD, no matter which drive I select, it does not allow me to go ahead. When I checked the details, I got the error message which is attached here.

There is no disk controller option in BIOS, nor is there anything related tto UEFI systems.

My X131e is still in warranty but whenever I put in my S/N and machine type for my X230, it doesn't deliver the info on the warranty. The lenovo Solution Center is unable to determine either. What gives? The X230 is very new and I'm happy with it, but if there's no way to figure out the warranty other than DIALLING Lenovo, which I don't want to do, I'm not gonna be purchasing a Lenovo device next time round. What's the status of my warranty on my X230? If it breaks and lenovo isn't bothered to repair the system, then basically Lenovo's gone insane.

At the first day have no major problems, except the touch pad (it?s not working properly). But after 2 day onwards the net connection having problem. Up to now it is not connecting to either Wi-Fi of WLAN connection. I again installed the drivers from my motherboard CD. But they are not useful. After that I checked online for the drivers for net connection and installed again also. Even though, it was not connecting to the net.I also checked at Lenovo Wireless Device Settings. In this regards please give me suggestions to resolve my problem and give the related drivers software.

2.Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
3.Under Battery Health, choose "Optimize For Battery Runtime" instead of "Optimize for Battery Lifespan".

I am facing this problem for last few days with my ~3 months old Lenovo G580 laptop.
One morning, i switched on my laptop and found the battery indicator showing "88% available (plugged in, not charging)". and when i removed the power adapter, the laptop would just power off.

in short, the battery is getting detected but is not charging or working anymore.

At first i thought it was some software/driver problem but  then, i checked the Lenovo "Energy Management" tool and found that it was showing the battery status "Destroyed" (Screenshot below.)

Hello, I bought this laptop in India, with accidental and international warranty, from The Do Store. Then I shifted to Frankfurt, Germany, for my higher studies. But before leaving I noticed that I had issues with the touchpad. I took my laptop to the Lenovo repair centre, where they said I have to leave my laptop for 2 days as the touchpad needs to be replaced. I couldnt do that since I had my flight next day.   Now will the Frankfurt Branch of Lenovo replace this piece of hardware for me please? Also my laptop is incredibly slow, and hangs intermittently. The mouse freezes,  the keyboard works, but sometimes the keyboard also doesnt work meaning the whole system hangs. Currently there is windows 8 installed on this laptop. I am not very pleased with it, so planning on switching to windows 7. Also that should be done after the touchpad is replaced or before that? Also I owned a thinkpad previously, and had no issues with it for 5 years.. Is it possible that I can trade this model and exchange it for a thinkpad (by paying the overhead) within lenovo, example an exchange offer or something? Looking forward to a swift reply

Had I known what kind of service I'd be getting from Lenovo warranty service I'd not have purchased the extended ADP warranty.Bezel broke on my G580.  I have the satin black G580.  Sent it in for repairs under the warranty service.Took FOREVER.After multiple calls and dealing with the frustration of trying to speak with a person I finally found out the problem was the parts were back ordered.  Okay, I can wait.Wait wait wait......Called again."We're so sorry.  There is no reason it should take this long.  We'll get on it right away."And they did.Laptop back in a week from the second call. They replaced the entire lid and bezel with the WRONG lid and bezel.  I now have half a laptop which is satin black, half a laptop that is SHINY BLACK.Screws missing on bottom of laptop too.  They didn't even put all the screws back in.I'm waiting for the f/u "We wanted to check with you call" call because I do not want to wade through the phone tree, email contact attempts.  But if no call in a week I'm will do so.They obviously did not get the right parts but instead used parts from a different G580 model number to repair mine.Someone had to okay doing so.  Some manager in warranty repairs gave the repairs using the wrong parts the green light.  This was not a decision made by the repair tech. That manager did not call me and review my options, nothing.  That's a manager in my book that needs to be fired IF Lenovo is reall... I accidentally broke a hinge and it's plastic cover that attached to the LCD bezel on my G580. I think I could glue the cover back, and try to repair/replace the hinge (they are dirt cheap). The problem is that there is a lot of warranty time left, and I am afraid this repair might void it. While the warranty terms don't seem to say anything about voiding it (only that Lenovo is not responsible for damage resulting from unauthorized repairs), this guide says otherwise (it's for a different model, though). The repair would probably involve removing the palmrest and LCD bezel. AFAIK there are no seals, but I am afraid things such as removing the stickers that cover screws on the LCD might leave some trace.I could also send the laptop to the official service, but from what I have read on the Internet, these repairs tend to be much more expensive than necessary. Also, the guy from Lenovo service said the postage is free, but this is hard to believe for me, since it's not a warranty repair.Any clarification on these matters will be appreciated.

Answer:Will this repair void G580 warranty?

hi noep,

I'm sorry to hear what happened.

You can read this article
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Spilled-water-on-Y480-Y580-How-to-replace...

If you opt to have this repaired through Lenovo, You are correct, this will be an out of warranty type of repair since this is a cosmetic one. And you will need to pay for shipping one way only (From you to Lenovo), this is if you don't have the onsite service.

If you will proceed on self repair, the article above can answer your concern.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

As I understand it the G580 laptop has a 1year warranty as standard which would run from the purchase date (or from the first time the machine was booted up) The warranty date on my machine purchased yesterday (25 sept 2012) is 22 June 2012. This is the manufacturing date. The warranty date shown by entering the serial number on the Lenovo support website shows 22 June 2012. It seems no-one, including Lenovo business partners, know how to correct this. Am I wrong in believing the warranty runs from the purchase/delivery/1st use date ?Am I missing something very trivial to correct the date?

Answer:G580 warranty date wrong

I believe most manufacturers put in a warranty date in the event that you cannot provide a proof of purchase. If you have a proof of purchase that usually suffices for in store purchases or if you purchased it and had it shipped if you have a copy of the waybill indicating the delivery and online receipts this usually suffices as well. Can't guarantee this for Lenovo but that has been my experience as an industry standard. FWIW

When I check for the warranty status of my laptop, I am told that the country is unknown, the ship date is January 01, 0001, and  start and end date are empty. See screenshot below.
I bought it used at an online auction, but think that it might still be under warranty. How can I find out if it is?

Answer:What is my warranty status?

You'll need to contact the seller/registered owner of the system -- you can only transfer a warranty if the current registered owner can be reached for verification and/or initiates the process.

I ordered my Laptop from Paytm on 28th may 2016 and after installing and checking the warranty details through HP Support Assistant, I have received only a 8 month Warranty instead of getting 1 Year On-Site warranty. Please let me know what can I do for getting it extended for 4 more months.

Answer:Warranty status

Hi, You have to contact HP in your country and they will alter the date for you. How can you get 1 Year On-Site warranty I don't know, normally only 1 year return to base warranty.     http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html Regards.

Question: warranty status

I bought a new Lenovo s10-2 on 12-14-2010 I received it 12-16-2010. I checked online to register and check the warranty status and when i punched in my serial number The information showed that the warranty had already expired. My seller contacted Lenovo and was told that the online information was incorrect and I was given a phone number to call at Lenovo. After several phone calls to Lenovo and hearing people tell me that there was no warranty, I finally talked to somebody who understood the situation and entered some information on her system and told me that I do now have an up-to-date warranty. I asked her to send me an e-mail to confirm in writing that I do indeed have a new warranty. She said that she is not allowed to do that because would be a violation of security procedures. That sounds like BS to me. Is it too much to ask for a written warranty? I want Lenovo to send me a written warranty by e-mail, snail mail, pony express or whatever method that gives me the information I want. I've been trying for 3 days to register and get warranty information on a product I bought and can't get it done. Hey this is the 21ST Century. This is complete BS on the part of Lenovo.

Answer:g580 warranty finishing on wrong month

Hello and welcome,

A Lenovo warranty defaults to starting on the date of manufacture.  Machines purchased direct from Lenovo usually show the full 12 months (or whatever) plus a little.

Machines that have been sitting in a reseller's inventory will show the warranty as partially expired.

Call support and be prepared to email a proof of purchase.  This is fairly common and should be easily fixed - although it may take a few weeks to show up correctly.

Good evening everyone,Yesterday I just bought a new laptop 13'' Hp Pavillion x360 model 13-u104nl.I am very pleased with the features and performance of this product. The only flaw that I noticed is the lack of a valid SSD drive; there is a classic obsolete mechanical WD drive 1 TB.Now, my idea would be to replace the mechanical hard drive inside with a SSD (like Samsung 850 evo) with a modest capacity of only 250 GB, but I noticed the lack of the classic inferior doors for the "user replaceable part". My model requires a bit of disassembly before I can access the hard drive and replace it.My question is, according to your opinion, mounting a new ssd, following all the instructions in the service manual, will void my warranty? There are any warranty seals that will be violated by opening the laptop? In any case, I will keep the original drive in a safe place, and I will put it back into the PC if I have to send it to repair.Any suggestion is very appreciated. Thank you in advice

I have a Lenovo X61 Tablet PC. I paid extra for a 3 yr warranty. I am now in my third year but when I go to Lenovo's site, it says my unit is out of warranty as it had only a 1 yr warranty. I called and was directed to Entitlement. I have talked to a few different people there, anbd each one says that they can see that in fact I do have a 3 yr warranty. But each of them also says that they can't change the system. So my case was handed off to someone else who initially worked with me by email. I even sent him a copy of my invoice, showing that I paid for the warranty. He now seems to have dropped off the face of the earth . . .  or at least Lenovo. I have spent an enormous amount of time on an issue that would seem to be so easy to fix. And I continue to get absolutely nowhere. I have been a regular Lenovo customer, but this has me rethinking the relationship. I need to contact somebody who will take responsibility for getting this fixed. Any suggestions?

Hello everybody, I bought a new Thinkpad R61 in combination with 3 year on-site warranty service-pack. Now its fine, it shows as 3 years warranty, BUT with a displacement. It should be from June-2009 to June 2012 instead its showing as June-2008 to June-2011. Now I have a hardware problem and called the support several times with the conclusion, that I need a new mainbaord. BUT: the support can't see the on-site warranty. I forwarded a mail with the invoice from the retailer to the support and they wanted to check this a contact me again. Now no response from there. The only way to contact the registration department is via mail ([email protected]). Does somebody have the same problem and has a solution for me?For example a telephone number of this department? I think, you can imagine, that I am really disappointed of the Lenovo thinkpad service! Thanks a lot in advance!

I have a friends G580 laptop which has hard drive failures. I have the logs and it is under a year old. If I call Lenovo and advise them of the problems and send the necessary logs, what is likely to happen?

There is a fair amount to back up, so would like to know whether a replacement hard drive will be sent without quible, or whether more tests would need to be done at their end? When I call Lenovo what information will they need as I will get this before I call.

It?s an error relating to a bad sector, two tests are finding the same bad sector.

Many thanks

Answer:G580 Hard Drive Failure - Warranty Proceedure?

I would suggest you backup all that needs to be / can be backed up and then simply contact support and they'll inform you of the proceedure, they may and are entitled to ask you to carry out further diagnostic tests.  Have the type model and serial number of the system at hand, they will be required.

In advance I would check the online warranty status here in case it doesn't tally with the invoice / receipt for the system due to it having been possibly on a shelf in a warehouse for a period of time.  If there is a discrepancy have a copy of the invoice / receipt at hand, preferably as a pdf, which can be emailed to them to show valid warranty entitlemant.

On that system the hard drive is a CRU, Customer Replaceable Unit, which means under normal circumstances they will send a replacement hard drive rather than the system having to be sent in.  You will be required to return the original drive, should they replace it, failure to do so will result in you being charged for it. (Sometimes a credit card number may be requested).

It it already been done and still possible to do you should create recovery discs in order to be able to install the new drive should they send one; the new drive will be blank.

hello, I bought this t400s (2815-w14) a little bit more than a month ago in Germany. but still the warranty status cannot be found on Lenovo's website. it shows:  Our apologies Information for Warranty was not found. Please click back and try again or you may navigate clicking on 'Warranty'.   should I contact the dealer or Lenovo Support to get this problem fixed? Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer:Cannot find the warranty status (t400s)

I assume you're going to the Lenovo support website, to the Warranty section, and putting in your MTM and serial? If so, you might want to have someone with access to Lenovo's warranty systems check. It should be easy enough to call Lenovo support and ask them to check your warranty status.

If it is not showing as having warranty, call the reseller you bought it from and they should be able to help.

I got a new W520 which says it has the wrong warranty. I have the invoice saying I paid for the NBD 3 year service.  I have spent 2 weeks trying to get Lenovo to fix the warranty, and still no joy.

Lenovo support say they dont deal with warranies, and I would need to contact their warranty dept by email: [email protected]  Goodby. Buck passed.

You can try this email, but be warned these guys take at least 3 days to reply to any email, so a simple conversation takes weeks.

Their final email was that although I bought the w520 direct from the lenovo website, this is actaully managed by one of their suppliers, not lenovo, so I have to contct them.  Goodby.  Buck passed.

So I still dont have the warranty I purchased with the unit, and the HW has already failed.

Good luck with yours.

My next thinkpad will be a dell.  Their support and warranties just work.

It takes 2-4 weeks for the upgraded warranty to appear in the system. Support should have been able to handle this for you, when I called about mine not showing up they transfered me over to IBM who had me email a copy of the invoice to them.

EDIT: Even though your warranty is not showing up in the automated system it is in effect. The reason for this is because IBM handles the warranty extensions (from what I understand). All you need to do is call the number for your country from the list below and provide proof of purchase to have your system serviced under the extended warranty.

Wrong warranty status date. How do you go about getting the warranty status date updated?

Answer:Wrong Warranty Status V570

Was this machine purchased from a retailer.  I mean - not direct from Lenovo?

This is often the case if a machine sits in inventory, since the warranty starts with date of manufacture.

Hi,I have narrowed my choices down to these two laptops for purchase:1. Acer ES 11 NX.MYKSI.021 ES1-131 (11.6, Celeron Dual Core,2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Win 10 Home)2. Acer E15 UN.MZ8SI.023 ES1-531-C2YE (15..6, Celeron Dual Core,2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DOS)The thing is I have a 4GB DDR3 (1.35V Low Voltage) RAM chip as a spare from a non-functioning laptop, so I would like to remove the default 2GB RAM and put this in its place (since both laptops have only one RAM slot). However, from what I have read/seen so far, the disassemby of both laptops is quite complicated for a novice, as the entire bottom has to be dismantled. Obviously, since I am buying this as a low cost option, I dont want to end up paying 25% or more of the price for just the installation of the RAM chip I already have. So, what I was wondering was - what would be the status of the warranty if I do manage to replace the RAM chip myself, or if I got it done by a local computer repair guy?? I placed my purchase order of Y 460 and an additional 2-year in home NBD warranty service on Lenovo official website on Aug 18th, I got it on Aug 21st. Maybe I should say it's quickly enough. However, after I put my serial number to the lenovo website and tried to ensure my warranty status, I found my warranty will expire on 09/07/2011... I really have no any idea about how LENOVO figure this date out, but I'm pretty sure that this date is incorrect ...Does anyone meet the same problem with me ? Is there any one know how to fix it? You must contact Lenovo with your invoice to show them the exactly date you have bought your laptop. The warranty extension counts from the day you have bought your laptop.

Hi,Would it be a violation of any of the available Lenovo warranties if I upgraded the SSD and RAM on a new Yoga 13 myself? I'd really like to, but knowing how I am with my computers, I definitely need a valid 3-year warranty as well. Thanks!

I just received my T420 from Lenovo, for which I paid for 3 yrs onsite and 3 yrs Thinkpad protection.  However, a check on the warranty status of the machine on the Lenovo wesbite here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=SITE-WARNTY&sitestyle=lenovo shows the machine as having a 1 yr standard depot warranty.  I am hoping there is someone from Lenovo who can reply on how & when machine warranty entitlements get updated in their database.  In the past, when I have ordered Thinkpads, the correct warranty information has showed up on their system right away....usually at the same time as the shipment notification.  Now I am concerned that the machine entitlement will not be correctly recorded.

Answer:Problem with warranty status of brand new T420

It can take a week for the warranty to be updated.

I have a Western Digital hard disk which I purchased 09/2008 from NewEgg. The warranty on this drive is 3 years. I went to their web site and attempted to get an RMA for the failed drive.

Problems:
Several attempts over several hours told me consistently I was entering an invalid serial number. Not possible--I was copying and pasting the number from their test report to their web site.
Next, I was advised the web site was down and suggested I use Chat.
Next, Chat was down.
The next day, the site finally accepted the serial number and responded the drive has no warranty and never did, that it was a drive sold to an OEM builder (like HP or maybe Dell) and that I should contact the OEM builder.
I called by phone, talked to a real human, verified the warranty was good through November, 2011 and got an advanced replacement.
So, if Western Digital's web site tells you your drive has no warranty, don't believe it. Phone them up.

Hello everybody, I bought a new SL510 in combination with 3 year on-site warranty service-pack. During the service-pack registration process, I received an error message and had to forward my warranty request to Lenovo UK registration department. A few days later, I reveiced a confirmation e-mail and thougt, everything is fine. Now I have a hardware problem and called the support several times with the conclusion, that I need a new mainbaord. BUT: the support can't see the on-site warranty - only the 1 year standard warranty. I forwarded the mail with the warranty registration also to the support and they wanted to check this a contact me again. I am now waiting for 3 weeks to get a feedback AND to get an exchange of my defective system! The only way to contact the registration department is via mail ([email protected]). Does somebody have the same problem and has a solution for me?For example a telephone number of this department? I think, you can imagine, that I am really disappointed of the Lenovo service! Thanks a lot in advance! kind regardsTobias

Hello, two years ago, I bought a lenovo T61 with three years of warranty *home service*. Soon after, I needed a service repair of my notebook. At this time it was no problem to register my machine at lenovo and to get the service repair.Unfortunately, two month ago, there was again the same problem with my machine. When I then tried to call in the service, the lenovo warranty system claimed that my warranty had already expired the exact day I actually had bought the machine. I looked into the lenovo forum and found out that others had similar problems. So I followed the adwise in this forum to adress to [email protected], but lenovo kept on telling me that there had never been a warranty on my notebook. I sent lenovo the original bill, on which is written *bought with three years of warranty, home repair service*, I sent them the invoice tracking number of the first service repair, I even contacted my licenced lenovo dealer to confirm that the machine was not accidentally sold as a broker machine *lenovo suggested this*, but still the company refuses to accept my warranty. So, in compliance with my lenovo dealer and after two months of many, many e-mails with lenovo, I now try to find help in this forum. I would be happy if somebody has an idea what to do with my warranty problem.

Answer:T61 - warranty status of the machine got accidentally changed to expired and cannot be reactivated

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new/newish thinkpad T410. Because I don't have a huge budget, I'll have to buy it on Ebay. I'm looking for a machine with at least 2 years of (valid) on-site warranty left. I'm a bit worried about the authenticity of the machine and the status of the warranty if I buy one off Ebay. As a result, I have a couple of questions: 1/ Assuming the machine is authentic (hasn't been tampered with, parts and motherboard are original), is the standard 3 year on-site warranty 100% transferable? I've heard that it is, but just wondering if there is any chance that Lenovo wouldn't honour the Warranty, given that I won't be able to provide proof of purchase. If you call up Lenovo to get a thinkpad fixed under warranty, what is the process involved? Do you literally just read out the model/type and serial number and they send someone out, or do they require any further information (e.g. proof of purchase, etc.)? Does anyone have some first-hand experience of this? 2/ My second concern is that, because I'm buying it on Ebay, there's a chance that someone might have tampered with the machine, swapped the motherboard (which if I understand correctly, completely invalidates the warranty?), or changed some of the components (the hard drive in particular would be a problem). What would be the best way of checking the autenticity of the machine? Is there a standard way of checking the authenticity of the motherboard (either physically, via BIOS or via som... Read more

Answer:Checking authenticity of T410 being sold on Ebay + warranty status

Alright:First off, Lenovo should honor the transfer- I'm not sure if the old owner has to sign off on it or not (don't have first-hand experience of this).Secondly, the serial number contains all you need to know. I believe the easiest way to figure out what kind of machine it is/was is to give Lenovo a call and give them the number. If it was stolen, you can find that out that way as well- though you'd have to get the seller to give his or her name so you can cross-reference it with what they have on file. There isn't a way to check if the hard drive is the same- but it should support the Active Protection System if it's the Lenovo model(s).If an add-on card was taken out and sold, and the listing claims clearly that it is in the computer, then you have recourse with eBay.Changing the hard drive doesn't invalidate the warranty, by the way- it's designed to be consumer-replaceable (if it dies they'll send you a new one for you to install- a CRU). Also, hard drives are pretty hardy- they're pretty well protected and cushioned in a T410.Just out of curiosity, what kind of budget do you have?

Hi. I've got Lenovo G580 (20150) and I'm trying to install the geforce graphics card present in the system. I don't know exactly what the gpu model is but it's something akin to Geforce 610M. I've got Windows 8.1 installed and the drivers from Lenovo support page for this laptop don't work (I tried drivers for Win 8.1/8/7). During installation the drivers installer says that it "couldn't find appropriate hardware". I also tried various drivers from sites like driveridentifier but none worked. I even installed Win 10 and Windows Update found but couldn't install the drivers. I also have  Win 8.1 freshly installed. It's definitely not an OS problem. I also don't have recovery dvds/partition... Here are the graphics identifiers:PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1140&SUBSYS_397717AA&REV_A1PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1140&SUBSYS_397717AAPCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1140&CC_030200PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1140&CC_0302

I have the ThinkPad T60p (2007 model) and Lenovo's spec sheet says it supports up to 4GB but not on the Intel 945PM and GM chipsets. However I'm unable to tell which chipset I have. I tried Belarc and it didn't mention any of the chipsets that Lenovo mentions. Does Windows (XP) or Lenovo have a utility I can use to identify this or all of the hardware I have?

Answer:Max RAM? Unable to determine hardware

Welcome to the forum!

While your ThinkPad will recognize 4GB of RAM in BIOS, only 3GB will be usable regardless of OS used, due to a chipset limitation.

This holds true for all R60/e, T60/p, X60/s/T and Z61e/m/p/t ThinkPads.

My g580 ran out of battery while using it, and now it gets stuck on the lenovo logo. I tried a different hard drive which changed nothing, I've tested both hard drives on a different computer and they both work. However when I boot the laptop with no harddrive it will get past the logo go to a screen saying something about an unplugged cable then reset and get stuck on a blank screen.   If I plug in my windows recovery usb drive( and no harddrive) the the machine will boot normally and go to the windows installation screen. So any ideas on why a working harddrive would stop the system from booting? Also I've tried the whole taking out the battery unplugging it holding down the power key and then plugging it back in thing, did nothing.

Hi,
this has been a long standing issue.... I have never been able to send emails using an SMTP mailer. Never!

I am on a Mac (with Parallels). I use Bluehost for hosting. I have even tried a VPN to get this resolved and nothing works. Ever. But I am getting close to the heart of the issue after many years of trying (This issue has financially crippled my business - so any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated)

Here are some of the things that I found online that may be of use...

Heya!

I seem to be getting the BSOD when playing games, most recently during a game of Dota2.

When the BSOD does occur my computer hangs and a weird, electronic - it's hard to describe - whining sound comes through the speakers.

Answer:BSOD Unable to determine origin

Hi bickas.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall the program at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
I would suggest you to uninstall Viscosity Virtual Adapter V9.1, at least as a test.

Been receiving numerous BSOD for months. I never was able to determine the exact cause the first time. Most of the time the error occurs during a game such as Skyrim, Diablo 3. However, sometimes the error happened when watching videos on YouTube or even while idle.

Every time I thought I fixed it, I get a new one. Most of the time it was IRQ less than or equal. I swapped to an older card and it was less frequent, but still got them. Im back to the original card and still get the errors. Sometimes going days without errors, sometimes cant even go 20 minutes without one.

Im a bit lost in the dark on this one, documentation on the web point every direction, blaming video drivers, windows programs and even wireless adapters.

Occasionally, my entire system will just hang and either be forced to restart, or, very rarely, it will be able to regain control and continue working. I've ran memtest and memtestx86 to determine if the cause is my ram, but both tests showed the ram is working fine. The cause could be my GPU, an ASUS R9 290, but I have already done two RMA's to have the card repaired.

To get a bit of insight on these BSOD's, my system is very unstable for most games. When running Rust, my system seems to be extremely stable and can run the game for eternity. Whilst watching videos on youtube, the system is somewhat stable, the potential of a crash is still there, but I am free to do as I please for hours. Now, when playing other games, such as: League of Legends, Garry's Mod, Fallout: New Vegas, Bordelands 2, the system is extremely unstable. The most I can get is a few hours and crashing is extremely frequent.

I have been told that doing a bios update fixes most problems of an unstable system, but my motherboard rejected the latest bios that I tried to use in the update. I am afraid I have nothing left up my sleeve, and thus, must turn to these forums.

I have used the DM Log Collector program, so the ZIP is attached below. I am hoping to have this problem resolved soon as I must escape this elo hell in League of Legends and reach my true potential: Challenjour.

Answer:Strange BSODs, Unable to Determine Cause Alone

So let's go through all that I do know and what I think I know.

System is somewhat unstable. BSODs are occurring a few times a day and seem to be reducing their occurrence as the days go on.

When the system crashes, there is not Blue Screen displayed, the system automatically restarts.

It would appear that Google Chrome could be possibly causing these crashes as I am able to play games for a longer period of time with Google Chrome closed. When it is open, the system will crash more frequently and even crash whilst I am watching videos or looking on various forums.

Some games retain stability for longer, Rust, World of Warcraft. Other games have some stability to them, League of Legends, Fallout: New Vegas. And other games will almost always crash within the first hour, Garry's Mod, Borderlands 2. So these crashes really depend on a factor. A factor that I do not know because I cannot read these .dmp files and someone has yet to view this thread and read them to me.

It's really a game of guessing and I am losing.

I built this computer about a year ago. Things were running smooth up until recently. I m usually pretty good at figuring out what is causing Errors on my computers but I cannot figure out what is causing this one. I do see kernel Errors in the event log but that is only about a bug check after it crashes.
I reinstalled windows
Updated the firmware on my C Drive and Motherboard
Installed windows updates
updated by graphics card drivers
Ran disk check on my C drive
I have attached all the logs. Thanks in advance for all the help.

XP updaes will not install, and it takes 10 minutes for it to start up. Browsers don't always take me where I want to go.

ETC.

I reviewed a similiar situation in another post and am going to try those tecniques.

Answer:My Dell 9400 is infected, but I am unable to determine by what.

That slow start could be caused by too many items in startup, a failing hdd, a very fragmented hdd or malware.
Suggest you backup all important files or create an image of the entire drive and store it on an external medium. If the
hdd is failing, the more you use it the more likely it will become unbootable and unable to recover files.

Use CCleaner to cleanup the crud. Once you have done that open CCleaner and click on Tools and choose Startups.
At the bottom of that page you will see a button when clicked will allow you post the list of programs presently starting up
at boot. Post that list back here.

After you have backed up the computer and posted the list of startups you can run some programs to hopefully find and
remove whatever adware and malware is on the computer.

Use the instructions for Rkill, MBAM, AdwCleaner, Junkware Removal Tool, and Eset online scanner in your previous topic for a different computer.
Make sure that all active security programs are stopped from running/ disabled before running the scans.

here is the thing - i need a tip, the internal sticker shows a lot of chinese picture, the only thing that is written with roman characters is the first line:it sais:  1584-100     (space)  S/N: a very long number - not sure if i should paste it here.one verse below there is this:Regulatory model:  chinese bushy-writing       //     RMN:  HSTNN-F05C  - not sure if this helpsnow - the "my comp -> properties -> sais it's a HP 210-2000 but it might be too general, there were countless incarnations of the 210-2XXX series.my unit uses 1,5 V ddr3  - 1GB  - 10600S samsung ram  - which renders the unit pretty much unusable, even after killing most of the services/processes it still eats 650-800 MB and opening a firefox literally ends the session.i need to know how to find the very exact type of the computer so that i can: buy a 2GB/4GB ddr3 chip  that would help, or just forget about it and dump it ;/any hints/tips welcome.kind regards, romanps. why does my "inside sticker" not look like any of the ones shown in the support vids? the computer was bought in poland 6 years ago, Have I been cheated? The chinese "writing" renders any support material totally useless.

Would be most appreciative if you could help me identify this ransomware.  It has infected both my mother's and my father's computers.  I am only able to provide a screen shot of the ransomware message, which I uploaded to the ID Ransomware tool.  Unable to figure out how to attach the screen shot to this post, however.

It is a white text, blue background message, with two additional warning popups from a "Microsoft Support Desk" that provides a toll free number to call.  It does not ask for money in the message, but my father (unfortunately) did call the number, at which point they asked him for a lot of information about his computer and network settings, and eventually were able to take control of his computer by doing a screen share, at which point my father says the cursor was moving around on the screen by itself and lots of windows were being opened and changes were being made.  Then, the "help desk" people demanded money and threatened to report him to the authorities if he did not pay a fee for them to fix the problems, citing evidence of "illegal activities" they had located on his computer.  My father is a 71 year old retiree with not so much as a parking ticket his entire life!

Thanks very much in advance for your help

I am totally disappointed in Lenovo's customer support. My lenovo 710s was bought less than 1 year ago (as of 10/6/2017, when I sent it in for repairs) and had 2 years warranty (1+1 year of extended warranty). I sent my laptop for repair due to a white spot issue on the monitor, affecting viewing of webpages and videos. However, the laptop was returned after 3 weeks without any fixes/repairs, as Lenovo claimed that it was a cosmetic issue. I wrote a message on their customer care website on 3/7/2017. However, they ignored me and there was no reply to date.  I thought Lenovo is a reliable and popular brand. However, it turned out to be a horrible decision, much to my dismay!
