How do I revert back to the factory image after installing Windows 8?

Question: How do I revert back to the factory image after installing Windows 8?

Hi, I own a Lenovo G550 laptop preinstalled with windows 7 Home Premium. Lately, I've upgraded to Windows 8 Pro. Now that I want to revert back to Windows 7 I can't seem to find a way to do that as the recovery option simply doesn't work (the rescue button is inactive). I didn't format the HD partitions and the recovery partition (where the factory image is located) is still there. All I did was inserting the Windows 8 DVD and clicking Upgrade - Windows did all the rest. How can I revert back to Windows 7 that came with the PC? Thanks, Ofir

Preferred Solution: How do I revert back to the factory image after installing Windows 8?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How do I revert back to the factory image after installing Windows 8?

hi ofircarmi,

Before you upgraded to Windows 8, did you created your Windows 7 recovery disc using this procedure? The reason I asked is because the One Key Recovery application & the OKR button will not work after you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 as discussed here.

If you didn't created a recovery disc, you will need a retail Windows 7 Disc to downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7 or you contact Lenovo Technical Support to obtain the disc. Support phone list here.

Long story short, my restore point before the update was deleted, so I am now stuck with this extremely buggy software. Is there any way to "downgrade" to Windows 8 without a restore/recovery point? Will a clean-install work? Or is my product key now a key for Windows 8.1 instead of 8?

Answer:How can I revert back to Windows 8 after installing 8.1?

Is it the key off the machine, is it should be fine as it is tied to the machine.  You can down load an ISO file from Microsoft then use that key.

following the hype and the upgrade from 8.x life sucks... most apps fail I cannot successfully install any anti virus. cannot successfully install most things.
cannot restore to previous versions and life is hell.
Just so as you know I am an IT professional and after wasting a lot... I mean a lot of time I am thinking rebuild and Linux.....
it would be nice if there was a simple check and fix install concept?
nothing is easy and I mean nothing...
cannot force updates have checked for Virus/malware etc. and am still clean.
so the crux is the update failed and I cannot restore without loosing files, or any level of confidence .. your thoughts would be appreciated, from a windows fan (_EX)

Answer:Since installing Windows 10 it has been terrible, how can I revert back?

Hi, if you are looking to try further things then you would be better off signing up for a Windows Central account, so that you can reply to this thread.
You've not mentioned what error messages/codes you get when apps fail or if you are signed in with your Microsoft account ok.
Device drivers, are they all installed in device manager?
Have you tried rolling back (see link below) and if so what happened?Rollback from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1 / 7
As an IT professional I am sure you know that there is further trouble shooting that can be done before giving up.
While installing Linux you would lose all your files anyway.

Hi, Here is some information about the laptop:Model - HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PCSystem ID - 1657Product ID - LM720AVProcessor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @2.00GHZ The laptop came with wondows 7 and later microsoft provided free upgrade to windows 10. About a month back, the laptop simply gave up. We tried restoring using the back up bootable media (flash drive) but at one point it just goes blank with fan running, the Wi-Fi LED is on but nothing happens beyon. Fan ran at very high speed and laptop was heating up.  We ordered original restore DVDs from HP. Now, even after following exact instructions, it starts the laptop but on the very first start up after all installation is complete, it freezes on 'Starting Windows' screen with windows logo. We had to hard stop and then tried running diagnostic using 'Tune up' option and it failed on memory test with error code 9LPPVK-5M984P-MFH15G-404103.I am not sure if HP provided DVDs that does not meet what was on my laptop originally. If I try to install windows 10 from back up device using start menu, I am able to use laptop as long as I keep my wi-fi off. As soon as it connects to wi-fi, it looks like it updates some graphics driver and that again  shuts off screen and freezes. Any advice here please?  Also, if I try to re-stat in safe mode, it goes to screen informing system is preparing windows for the first use but because it cannot be done in safe mode, it gives error message and tries to re... I went ahead and done a clean install of WIN7. I left the factory image in place. I also have the recovery discs from HP. I was just curious about it. I attached a picture and as you see with D. If I marked that as an active partition. Would it go through and recover? Not sure if it would since the MBR has been erased and replaced? Even though I have the recovery discs. I probably could have just deleted it. But decided just to leave it. The PC in question is a Compaq/HP CQ5210F. Also. When it boots. It says I can hit F11 for a recovery. But. I imagine that will not work any more since the fresh install of WIN7.

It's been a while since I've dug this deep into HP machines for something like this but from what I remember, as long as you have the small partition at the beginning of the drive [before C: ] and the FACTORY_IMAGE you can hit F11 and have fun. Beyond that, I have no clue what would happen if you marked the FACTORY_IMAGE as active. If I can remember right, FACTORY_IMAGE just contains what WOULD be on the computer if you restored it, not the actual restore software itself [where the micro partition comes into play]

Again it's been a while and my ADD was pretty bad when I was being told about how all of that worked. For all I know, there could be bacon involved.

Oh bugger

Had to do a factory image re-install and did a complete back up onto a 32 gig memory stick. So far so good, re-install went ok and personal files such as photos etc all re-appeared but once I got Outlook up and running I could not find the emails or address book.

Now it seems that there were two back ups on the stick but only a few weeks appart so has that compromised the file re-install and where the hell are my emails. I have searched for *.pst (I think that is what they are) but can find nothing at all. I did find an Outlook file called archive and that put some sent emails into the system but thats about it. When I look at the contents of the memory stick it says Home PC with a little CD graphic and when I go to the next layer it says Back up set and then the date followed by a number. The next layer then lists another back up which was the latest with a different number, the next layer gives over 60 folders on the earlier back up and only 6 on the later.

Any ideas as to how I can reslove this lot or have I made a mess of it all

Answer:Factory image re-install but no emails in back up

Hi John,

Firstly....You'll have to enable viewing of hidden files and folders in Control Panel >Folder Options > View .

Then you may navigate to C:\Users\Specific User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Answer:X1 Carbon 1st gen - restore factory image (trying to go back to Win7 from win10 - after 30 day perio

Good day.

There are a number of reports that upgrading to Win10 renders the on-disk recovery system non-functional.

In order to use recovery DVDs as offered by Support would require the use of an external USB drive. I've used this method on a number of my ThinkPads that don't have an in-built optical drive. Always successfully resulting in a factory OOB state.

Regards.

I'm in the Windows 8.1 beta, and it made my PC very buggy. The start menu is always freezing and while watching videos on YouTube, they always skip video frames and ruins my experience. I loved 8 and didn't think the 8.1 beta would be this buggy. I have no backup to restore and not really PC savvy, and could use some help on what to do, thanks

Answer:How to revert back to windows 8 from 8.1

When signing up for the 8.1 beta, there was language in the terms that stated that there was no reverse path. There also wasn't an upgrade path to the real 8.1. No matter what, you'd have to do an OS reinstall eventually.
You will want to save all of your personal files on an external hard drive or flash drive. Then keep inventory of all apps and programs you have because you will need yo reinstall them.
Then reinstall 8.

I am considering the purchase of the Windows 8 Pro upgrade for $39.99. I would install it on my Dell laptop running Windows 7. If after using Windows 8 for awhile, I may decide I like Windows 7 better. How is it possible to revert back? I read that once you do an upgrade the license of the older OS is lost according to this reference:Frequently Asked Questions About Installing Windows 8
which is quoted here:

"If I use a Windows 8 Upgrade disc/download to upgrade my Windows 7 computer to Windows 8, can I then use my old Windows 7 disc and product key to install Windows 7 on another computer?"

No. The Windows 8 Upgrade license replaces the previous Windows 7 (or Windows Vista or Windows XP) license.
To be clear: your old version of Windows that you upgraded from can no longer be used on your current, or any other, computer.

Is this really true? If so, it sure doesn't seem to be widely publicized.

Because of my antivirus when cleaning it accidentally deleted my system back up for windows 8.1
my laptop says we're sorry but we cant revert to your old windows because the neccesary files we're deleted

Answer:how to revert back to windows 8.1

Then, it's unfortunate that it was deleted. You could try to recover those deleted files using a file recovery program, but chances are you won't recover ALL of them - even recovering 99.99% of the files is NOT enough as that would translate to a corrupt system.
So, technically, you can't revert back to how your PC was before you upgraded (because the files were deleted). You're best option may be to re-acquire the installer of Windows 8.1 that came with your PC... but using that will erase all your personal files.

Trying to roll back to w7 ,w10 told me I did not have a back up(windows.old)which when I looked it was there.
When I tried again I could not because W10 had taken the roll back facility out of the three options. I then looked at the D partition for the manufacturers recovery for 64bit W7 and found that this had been deleted by W10.
I made a full back up using w7 backup and recovery on an external hdd changed the startup to usb drive but would this be a bootable drive as I still booted into W10, what have I done wrong? (Apart from using windows backup)

Answer:Cannot revert back to windows 7

How many times are we seeing this problem, it was suggested by myself and others that you clone your drive before experimenting with Win10. Then no matter what happens you can easily get back your original OS.

Answer:I need to revert back to windows 8

Hello.

If you ordered your machine with the Windows 8 Pro - downgradeable to Windows 7 Professional option, then your machine will be delivered with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed. That is how I got mine.

You can't revert to Windows 8 Pro from the current setup, you must either upgrade to Windows 8 Pro through the Microsoft ugpgrade tool, which requires you to have your BIOS embedded Windows 8 Pro product key handy (you can use this program: ProduKey, to reveal your key), or if you got the Windows 8 Pro recovery media with your machine, as I did, you can use them to completely set up your machine again with Windows 8 Pro, and the installation will detect and install your BIOS embedded product key automatically.

Hope this helps! Cheers!

The question is the title. Can I revert fairly easily via sys restore or some other tried-&-true method? Or will I need to go all the way, format and reinstall v7, drivers, software...?

I've had some problems and discovered that this main board is not intel-approved for windows 10. Not having full-out meltdowns, but misc video and display frustrations (driver issues). Seems like I would benefit from just grinding through a re-install.

Too bad your little sys info app went away, but I can post more if needed. It's 64 bit, an i5, had v7 pre-installed (& I have disk -- also have disk for drivers.

Thanx in advance

Since the upgrade to Windows 10 I have had continuous problems. Windows Live mail will barely function at all - just freezes every time I try to open it. IE 11 continually shows script errors despite disabling script debugging and I cannot print anything from the internet even though the printer works perfectly well.

To add to this the enter buttons on the keyboard stopped working and today two programmes have disappeared - their apps have gone from the desktop as well.

I am so fed up with Windows 10 - it's like Big Brother - how dare they decide what I can use, what I can't use etc. is there any way I can go back to my old windows programme?

Answer:How do I revert back to an earlier Windows version

Hi, if you bought a retail license and upgraded to '10 in the last 30 days, you should be able to restore the previous version from within Windows.

If more than 30 days, you will need to either
a. Clean install the previous edition (assuming you have a pertinent license)
or- assuming you are in the strongly recommended habit of using disk imaging and have kept relevant disk images
b. Restore your system using those disk images.

Naturally, if you now have a newish PC and wished to, say, reinstall Windows 7, you might not find all the necessary drivers are available.

Other than that, sorry your experience has been poor.. after a bit of a learning curve, mine's been fine. I avoid the universal apps and the Win 10 start menu, and rarely use Cortana.

Answer:What programs will I have to reinstall to revert back to Windows 7?

Hello Cocatfan, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Basically, anything you changed or installed after upgrading will be removed. When you go back, it goes back to the same state your Windows 7 was at before upgrading to Windows 10.

I have had Windows 7 installed on an SSD for a long time. I am used to a fast boot up. I installed Windows 8.1 as a dual boot on a partition of my HDD. I thought I would on occasion get familiar with Windows 8, After the installation I noticed and expected a longer boot time because the new OS is on the mechanical drive. The screen is black with increasing dots going across the top as if loading information. Then the screen goes through a few black to a lite-black, back and forth changes and then finally to the screen that you choose the OS you wish to boot screen. I use Windows 7 95% of the time and really haven't put forth the effort yet (as planned) to become familiar with Win 8. I have become quite annoyed with the long boot process. I plan to reinstall Win 8 in VMware so I can return to the boot time being SSD quick. I deleted Windows 8 using msconfig. Now when my PC starts it goes straight to Windows 7 desktop however the long loading still occurs increasing dots across the screen . I suppose you can see by now what my question will be. How do I get my PC to boot they way it used to. Thank you for your replies.

This problem is for someone elses computer so the specs above are not relevent. They have a Dell which came with Vista and was eligible for the win 7 upgrade. They did the upgrade by following the instructions on the disk. Is there anyway to revert back to Vista or to retrieve the contents of Outlook Express from the vista install?

Answer:Revert Windows 7 Upgrade back to Vista

Without knowing more I'd say it is possible. The owners manual would provide help as to how one was supposed to return the system to OEM state. Some have hidden partition that might still be there. Some have you make dvd's that might still be on the system. Some even have you buy the media for a small fee.Playing to the angelsLes Paul (1915-2009)

I decided to go back since I couldn't get my audio interface to work. When I go to Recovery there IS an option to "Go back to Windows 7" but when I click the Get Started button it says that needed files have been removed. I haven't deleted anything and the windows.old folder is still there. I really shot myself in the foot with this. Disgusted right now. Guess I'll have to do a clean install of 7 again.

So I made the mistake of upgrading my Dell Venue 8 Pro to Windows 10... It's very slow and buggy.
I tried using the built in "Revert back to Windows 8.1" option in the Settings "app", but it says that files have been deleted and it can no longer perform the uninstallation.

I also tried going into the tablet's built in Backup and Recovery from Dell, but that doesn't allow me to reinstall Windows 8. It's merely a diagnostic.

Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:How to revert back to Windows 8.1 on a Dell Venue 8 Pro?

Update to latest BIOS first then do the chipsets then download the windows driver 10 pack all from dell support. Works well after that. I spent a lot of time before i figured that one out..

Hi,

Are you referring to a factory recovery from an OEM installation? If so, then YES, you can do that from the recovery partition, or by running the factory recovery disks, but......it will not retain any installed software or data.

Hi. i'm hoping someone can help me out. My mother left her laptop on last night while she went to work and it automatically installed a new Windows update which I think may be the Creator's Build, but i'm not sure. It looks like this. https://i.imgur.com/90g5SeC.png *Note the taskbar looks much different from previous Win10 taskbars.
-All i know is it's very different from what she's used to and the option to revert back to a previous build is grayed out. https://i.imgur.com/lVsnQiV.png (Says this option is not available because the PC was upgraded more than 10 days ago, which isn't true. My mother's PC was automatically upgraded last night.)
-It only gives the options to start up from a device or disc (which we don't have), or Reset This PC, which i don't think will revert back to the previous build.
-I went into 'System' to try to get more info on whether it's running the Creator's Build, but it says it's running Windows 10 Home.https://i.imgur.com/cGx3xQe.png
-Any ideas on how to get back to the previous Windows 10 build would be appreciated.

I'm frustrated with Windows 10 and want to switch back to Windows 7. However, my Start menu doesn't work. This proves to be very problematic, because the Settings menu within the Start menu seems to be the only path to reverting back to Windows 7. I've tried a few times to get my start menu back in order to restore Windows 7, but nothing I've tried has worked. Here's what I've tried:
(1) Entering a special command in Windows PowerShell (thanks to Narender Singh on techmesto.com). Didn't work.
(2) Creating a new account with administrator privileges. Start menu works, but I can't use it to revert to Windows 7. I'm prompted to delete all other accounts created after the upgrade before reverting back to Windows 7.
(3) Accessing the Settings menu from within the Control Panel. Settings menu doesn't seem to be accessible from the Control Panel.
Is there a way to go back to Windows 7 without using the Start menu? I would rather not have to go find my original product key for Windows 7 and reinstall it, but if that's the only way, so be it. I am open to suggestions.

Answer:How do I revert back to Windows 7 with a broken Start menu?

If you open the actions menu (the little notification speech bubble in the system tray) that should have an option to go to the settings menu. If not, try booting with your W7 recovery stick/W7 install DVD and see what recovery options you can make use of there. You can restore a system image you've made through that system which would effectively revert you. If you don't have one (wrist slap...) you could try an 'upgrade install' from W10 to W7 via your install disk/stick which would probably work and retain your files.
Of course, you could always clean install W7.

Apparently there is no way of downgrading from windows 8 to windows 7. If you want to revert back, you will have to clean install windows 7. However you can create recovery disks via one key recovery and then use them afterwards. And the upgrade key would work more than once on a computer.

Hello,

I just recently purchased a new Laptop, which comes with Windows 7. I have been using Windows Vista for about 2 and a half years now, and I'd like to retain as many features of Vista as I can in 7. Mostly with the Taskbar, which I prefer in Vista's style. I'm not clear on the terminology used for what I'm trying to do, so I couldn't really find a tutorial. However, I have taken some pictures, hopefully that will help.

Ok, so. Bascially, I'd like to have what's in the pictures on Windows 7, instead of what 7 normally uses. Is this possible? I'm not sure how much information I need to give to be clear, hopefully the pictures suffice.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:How to revert some aspects of the Windows 7 Taskbar back to Vista?

Not sure what the pictures are showing. But you can enable Quick Launch Bar using this tutorial:

Quick Launch - Enable or Disable[2]=Taskbar%20Start%20Menu

The ToolBar from a folder I did for awhile. But having to mouse over slows me down. Instead I use RocketDock and StandAlone Stacks. Both are free.

http://www.chrisnsoft.com/standalonestack

http://rocketdock.com/

I run them both on W7 and Vista. W7 the TaskBar and snap effects take a bit of adjustment. Once you take advantage you miss it on Vista though. Esp. stuff like pin to taskbar. You can pin files to the shortcut of the app that uses them. I have a sorted list of folder sets that I open with a program I wrote that opens the folders and places then on the desktop as a set. Neat stuff like that.

StandAlone Stacks you get this effect:

I hoping there is some way to deal with this, even maybe a third party tool?

I purchased a Vostro 3500 with Windows 7 Pro downgraded to XP pro back in 2010.  It still runs well and I would like to keep using it as a spare laptop.  How do I revert back to Windows 7 pro (there is a Windows7 pro label with keys under the battery compartment), without any discs as they didn't come with the notebook?
Once upgraded to Windows 7, will I still be able to get the free upgrade to Windows 10?  Is the system capable of a windows 10 install/upgrade? Below are the system specs:

Processor

Intel® Core™ i5-520M (2.40GHz base, up to 2.93GHz, 2C/4T, 3MB L3)

Memory

4GB (2X2G) DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM, 2 DIMM

Hard Drive

500GB Hard Drive, 7200 RPM

Video Card

Vostro 3500 NVIDIA® Geforce™ 310M, 512MB Graphics

I know there are some posts related to my question, but all say to re-install from CD/DVD which I don't have.  I have searched everywhere but have not been able to find a solution specific to my situation so would be very grateful to anyone who can help.

Answer:Vostro 3500 purchased with windows 7 pro downgraded to XP pro - how to revert back

Upgrade your Legacy BIOS to the latest version.
Then you can directly clean install Windows 10 Pro with the Windows 7 Pro Product Key. There were some issues with the Nvidia Geforce 310M and Windows 10 but I think these have been resolved by Microsoft in later Windows 10 builds.
Windows 10 RS2 Installation Media is available for download from Microsoft. Since you have another computer to hand (running Windows 7 or later) I would use this computer to make the Bootable USB (set it up for a Legacy BIOS):

Answer:How do I roll back or revert to an earlier version of drivers on my Windows 8.1?

Hi smalasani,

Welcome to Lenovo Commmunity Forums!

This depends on How the computer was Upgraded
If you just did the Free Upgrade from Microsoft then you can Perform a One Key Recovery where it loads the Factory Image on the computer. Like How you got it from the store.

If you Installed a Fresh copy of Windows 8.1, You might need to get a hold of a Windows 8 Lenovo Recovery CD
You can Contact Lenovo Team on how to get one Fees may apply.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi,
I installed the technical preview on my Surface Pro (gen 1), It's great and all. Gets smoother with each update, however, I'd like to revert back to 8.1 pro so I can reserve my copy of Windows 10.
I don't exactly know if the tech preview will auto-update to the full OS when Win10 releases July29 and I've tried to search for an answer to that question and the answers I find refer to Microsoft releasing "ISOs" when the full OS comes out and I don't know how to do those things so that's why I want to revert back and reserve.
This is my first time trying out OS preview builds. I made a USB recovery drive before I installed it though.
I tried using it to refresh my SurfacePro back to windows 8.1 using my USB recovery drive, but the only option I get when it comes to choosing a target operating system to refresh is just windows 10.
Any help with this?
Thanks

I have genuine windows 7 home basic that was preloaded when I bought the laptop but I upgraded to Windows 7 ultimate using code that I found on internet, so basically right now I have pirated windows 7 ultimate. So how should I upgrade to windows 10?
Should I go back to home basic version before upgrading? If yes, how should I do that?
OR should I upgrade normally and use the product key provided on the backside of laptop?

Answer:Do I need to revert back to windows 7 home basic to upgrade to windows 10? Other Suggestions.

you have to roll back to windows 7 basic in order to activate the license your computer came with and then upgrade to windows 10.
you can use a windows ultimate iso to do this: with windows dvd/usb download tool prepare a bootable usb pen with your win ultimate iso. then when the pen is ready, go to /sources and delete the two files ei.cfg and cversion.cfg, this way you'll be able to install win7 home over your win7 ultimate as an upgrade without losing anything, and then open a command prompt as administrator, enter "slui 3" and enter your win7 home product key; this way you'll have back your legal copy of win7 to upgrade to win10
or you can choose to do a full format and reinstall windows, in the same way.

My computer is not recognising the recovery partition stored on my hard drive which has the factory image of the PC.
I used the Factory Image Restore utility by going into the Windows Recovery Environment, Troubleshoot and then there is an option for Factory Image Restore. But even though the recovery partition is physically there it keeps saying there's "No Factory image found"
Is there anyway for it to recognise the recovery partition again? There's no problems with my computer at the moment but it's good to have a solution for this just in case.
Thanks

You might want to explain the history of your system.  Was it a Win 8 to 10 upgrade or something else?
If you are on Win 10, which I assume you are since you are in this forum, it does things a little differently.

Has anyone else experienced the following?

My Windows 7 was updating to Windows 10. When it appeared to almost be done configuring a message appeared stating the Windows 10 could not be installed and it was restoring the previous version of Windows.

Well that did not work. The pc will not boot up now. Instead I get: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>\system32\hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file"

I hope I can add the file using the win7 dvd. I know I was getting low on hard drive space, but had cleared enough to have 4 gig or so free. It was either not mentioned anywhere or I missed how much hd space would be needed. Of course I am assuming that the install bombed due to this?

My uncle purchased a brand new Sony Laptop Vaio with Windows 8. He clicked the button to update them to Windows 8 pro (he said this button was when Windows 8 logged on for the first time). After downloading (normal procedure) Windows 8 pro, and during Installation, he was asked to enter his Windows 8 pro key. He doesn't have any, he thought he would be able to do it by entering his existing Windows 8 key (that the whole thing was a promo). AS a result he doesn't have a registration code.

How can he revert back to using windows 8? Because he tells me that now when he restarts the Vaio, he gets to the windows 8 pro page waiting for registration key. He also said that the key f8 (I told him to press it during boot to see his options) doesn't do anything at all.

So i need your help pls!

Answer:Revert back to Windows 8, during Windows 8pro installation

One option is to reset the laptop to factory settings:

Like the title says, I tried to roll back windows 10 to 8.1 and it messed up somehow.  There are no boot options on the BIOS.  I pushed f12 to try and boot from source and it goes to a blank screen.  It is not the HD since i tried another one.  It cannot boot from anywhere, HD, USB, or CD.  It's like the options don't exist anymore.  Any help is appreciated!!

The latest 3 insider builds have created an issue where I cannot run MalwareBytes AntiMalware without Windows crashing with a BSOD. Can I stop receiving insider builds and revert back from build 14951 to the latest stable public release (Anniversary Build) of Windows 10? How would I revert back to that version of Windows 10 if I am currently on build 14951? MalwareBytes can only support publicly released versions of Windows 10, and cannot support the insider pre-release builds.

I have a Compaq Presario 1200. The original 5.1GB HDD had Win98SE, and had a good display (either 16bit or 32bit, I don't remember which, but the dispaly was nice). I replaced that HDD with a larger one and installed Win98SE. But now the display is really lousy (in settings I have the choice of either 2 colors or 16 colors; and only one choice of screen area: 640x480 pixels).

How can I get the higher resolution screen back? I didn't change any hardware
besides the HDD.

Hello   So my question is this. Has onyone successfully deployed their own image onto a lenovo laptop yet retained the working OEM recovery partition to restore back to factory defualts. The reason I would like to do that is we have an image with all of our software in it that we have put on Lenovo machines for years. It is hardare independent and works well. However, we would like to boot into rescue and recovery to restore the machine to the factory image when the machine is up for replacement. Our users have the option to take this old machine home. I have pushed the Image onto the D: partition and using Diskpart, everything appears the same. Windows boots and it works fine. However, the machine wont restore to the factory image anymore. If buying the CDs and storing them is the only option, that is fine. Or is the suggestion is to Image the disk, I suppose I could do that as well. Let me know if the former is possible

Answer:Custom Windows image & factory image

The latter two items are you best since you'd not know the condition of the drive or files when its time to reconfigure them. If they're the same models then you need on 1 recover DVD set (made from the machine & no need to buy it), also an disk image as a fall back would be better option. IMO

Hi guys,

So I have a pretty nerve racking situation right now. Ive encrypted almost 50gb of files when I was on Windows 8.1. Great OS but I decided to go back to windows 7. I thought I was pretty much safe with everything, untill I realised that one of the partition had a huge folder that could only be opened from my account on windows 8.1 because I had encrypted it.

Im hopeless and it seems my only option right now is reverting back to my windows.old. I need to get it back functional somehow only so I can decrypt the folder. Ive read about it a little bit and it seems to end in a buggy state when you do it. Thats not an issue for me! It seems because its so buggy perhaps thats why very few people recommend it and its also why i cant find a concrete guide.

Please forum members guide me to something that could get my windows.old windows 8.1 to a functional state.

Sincerely Djawed

Answer:Revert back to windows.old Windows 8.1 only for 1 thing

Is it possible to still revert a PC to the original factory condition using the factory restore partition after Windows 10 has been installed or does the installation of WIN 10 prevent that? None of the other options to do a restore back to the original WIN 7 (as purchased new) are available to me.

Answer:Revert to factory condition after installation of WIN 10

It would depend if you still had original recoivery partition, and could access it.

A while back my ASUS GT 640 stopped working after a BIOS-update. A year has passed, and I've seen several others with the same issues. Still, there's no BIOS-updates that mention a fix, and I still can't get any of the three PCI-e cards I've tried to work. So, I wanted to try flashing my BIOS back to the factory default one, as that worked just fine for 6-7 months. However, where do I download these old BIOS packages? And is there any information on how to flash them manually? That is, unless I can download an ISO image.

Answer:How do you revert a M92p to the factory BIOS?

All the downloaded BIOS updates should still be on your hard drive in separate directories named for the BIOS version. Running the Setup file should install that BIOS into flash.   It won't get you back to the original one, but oldest will get you to the next update.

While setting up Photoshop CS4 they reccommended I update my display driver to use their opengl capabilities. I updated it and the opengl is having problems and won't work. Oddly, I'm pretty sure it was workign before I updated it, so how do I roll back to the previous one, without rolling back to the factory default?
I'm hesitant to use system restore because that causes such global changes that I never know what it will do. Besides, it makes deleted folders re appear empty as well as exe files. ><

Answer:Revert Display Driver to Previous? (not factory)

The rollback should reapply that last driver used before the upgrade was done, not the default (original) driver

Answer:Can I revert my windows phone back to windows 8 from windows 8.1?

Yupp.. Just download the Nokia Software Updater and reinstall wp 8.0 from there.. Keep in mind this means losing all game data.. Pictures and music can be saved by simply placing those on a laptop
Edit: Eventually you will have to upgrade to 8.1 so you might as well just keep it.. But the choice is up to you :)

I'm sorry to create a new thread. This topic has been addressed in other threads, but it's hard to make heads or tails "IF" I should, or "IF" I can even do this. Driver compatibility, software, et.

In a nutshell, I want to take a computer with Windows 10 factory install, and install Windows 7.

Again, I know there's tons of variables, but here's the crux:

I can't build a custom machine b/c I want to take advantage of 0% financing from a particular retailer.

I want to buy one of the better Desktop machines I can afford ($700+/- from a National retailer)... (fastest processor I can afford (prob. Intel), most RAM I can afford, most Hard Drive Space I can afford, et.). All of their machines have Windows 10 factory installed of course (a few have win8 -but they aren't as fast, less memory, et).

I've had a new Windows 10 machine for about a week now. I just don't like Windows 10. I've spent far too much time tweaking settings, adding icons, figuring out privacy settings, trying to make Win10 compatible w/ 3rd party programs... on and on. I see its upside, but it's not for me -I guess I'm old school and "know what I like".

**So, given the above scenario... can I take a Clean Windows 7 Install, w/ product Key, install Win 7 and revert a NEW Win 10 machine back to Windows 7? **

Answer:New Computer w/ Win10 Factory Install >> Revert to Win7?

So long as the hardware in the computer has support for Windows 7, you shouldn't have any problem installing Windows 7.

This use of the word "revert" is incorrect here. You won't be "reverting", you'll be "downgrading".
If the computer uses UEFI, you'll need to ensure that your Windows 7 install media was created relatively recently, or create your own.\

You'll want to completely wipe the hard drive of all partitions when you go to install windows 7 as windows 7 doesn't use the same recovery partition configuration as Windows 10, and you'll likely not want to waste that space.

After many months of getting prompted by my machine to upgrade to Windows 10 every time I used it, I finally gave in.  What a mistake.  I had Windows 7 which I liked very much and should have stayed with it.  Now I find that I have difficulty doing the simplest of things, like using Windows Explorer.  I now have difficulty managing my files.  I really want to get my Windows 7 back.  Is there a set of commands or instructions that can be followed without the need for an expert?

Hello.

I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from a legit, activated Windows 7 Pro using Windows Update. It has been refusing to get activated for the last couple days. I think it might be due to the congestion in the MS activation server or whatever they call it.

Today I decided to revert back Windows 7 Pro, but the option in the settings to do that is telling me that the files necessary for this procedure were removed... Windows.old folder is right there where it should be and I haven't touched it at all, but it refuses to find it.

Hi and good morning. My friend upgraded to windows 10 about 20 days ago on his laptop. Its a Samsung RV510 laptop. He didn't really like it, so I have attempted to revert it back to windows 7 for him, as its less than 30 days.
I have done this via the normal route, but now, the Samsung screen shows, and then it says starting windows, but then it just continues in a loop, .....so we get the blue Samsung screen, then it says starting windows, and then it just continues to loop between these 2 screens. Its been 2 hours now.
Any suggestions, solutions would be much appreciated.

Question: Revert Back To Xp?

So anyways, after my many, many trials...and failures with this OS, I've decided to revert back to XP. And yes, I know that voids my warranty, blah blah. I just have a couple of questions.Computer: HP Pavilion dv6327 cl Entertainment Notebook PC1. If I go back and install XP over Vista, will I still be able to use/get the drivers for the extra features on my laptop, say...HP Quickplay? Since I have special buttons on the keyboard just for these features (for DVD playback, volume control, etc.) and I would like to continue to use them, is there any way I could transfer this over to XP?2. Since I have internal wireless, will I have to go through the wireless wizard to pick my router's signal back up? It's unsecured, by the way, so no codes to input. (Yes, I know I should secure it.)3. Okay, if I can't have Quickplay, what about certain programs that came preinstalled, like Roxio? Would I just have to find a freeware version? And speaking of freeware, what would be the best freeware AV/firewall/AS, etc? Right now I just have ZoneAlarm firewall and AVG Anti-virus/anit-spyware.4. So I'm getting ready to reinstall, how do I tell what kind of HD I have? I looked under the battery and didn't see anything. Would looking in Device Manager work? I saw something called the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and most of the things under it were labeled IDE except the NVidia nForce SATA controller. Isn't that my graphics/video card? Answer:Revert Back To Xp?

Hello,Answers1 It will be very difficult to revert to XP as you can't install older versions of windows over newer versions. Using the extra features could prove difficult and it will be dependent on if XP can support the hardware being used.2 If you put XP on the system, you would most likely have to reformat the drive and start from square 1 in this case you will need to configure everything again3 If you are looking for freeware replacments, http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic3616.html has an extensive list.4 http://www.gtopala.com/ is a system auditing tool, it will be able to give you detailed information on all aspects of your hardware.5 flashing the BIOS is a very delicate operation, it is crucial that you follow the instructions to the letter, otherwise the BIOS way become damaged and could ruin the system. switching back to XP may work or it may not. before you continue you should find the exact cause of the BSOD.
