Stucks at white screen

Question: Stucks at white screen

Hi All, I have a g560 laptop which i bought just a month ago and use it for my study and entertainment purpose. I have noticed that sometimes when im using the laptop for more than 2-3 hrs. It starts giving me white screen. Lets say for ex. when the screensaver is supposed to come up, I get a white screen or when I am shutting down the white screen flashes for two times or when I turn the pc off, Its stuck at the white screen even though the laptop is off. The only way I can get the screen is off is by taking the battery out and then put the battery back in. In the past one month I've got this issue multiple times. Any help would be really appreciated. I work for a branded computer manufacturer myself but bought a LENoVo because my brother has been using a lenovo since the last three years without an issue. Thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: Stucks at white screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Stucks at white screen

Maybe you need to update your BIOS. BUT WAIT!! If you do that, do it under DOS.

Please, look from this:

Also, you can call Lenovo's support.

This hardware related issue should be checked and repaired by authorized service provider. Notebook must be disassembled and checked.

Is your notebook still under warranty?

My system had issues where I could not get into system restore as it was not showing up
so went to msconfig and I went to advanced startup and chose to start in diagnostic mode and on reboot it now just has a light blue screen.

I can move mouse around and there is no login box?

I tried reboot and hitting F8 but no luck.
Is there another bypass for this?

Please help!

Answer:Portege Z10 stucks on blue screen - cannot log in

Switch on the computer, press and hold the "F12" key while the Toshiba logo appears.
Alternative you can press and hold the "0" key to access the recovery option.
Choose "HDD Recovery" and confirm by selecting "Yes" that you want to enter the system recovery.

Answer:Tecra M3 - Stucks at the Toshiba screen

Hi nmirza,

Does your notebook always hangs on this Toshiba BIOS screen or only if you try booting from Toshiba recovery disk?

Maybe your recovery disk is scratched and you should try another one?

I recently sent my laptop (Equium A300D-13x) back to Toshiba to be repaired as it was overheating and cutting out.

It came back today and when I turned it on I got the screen where I was asked if I wanted to go into safe mode or start Windows normally.
Then it goes to a screen where it says, *Finishing the installation may take several minutes.

Please do not interrupt or shutdown the computer!*

I've been waiting all day now and I'm still stuck on this screen.

Has anyone had the same problem? And if so, how can I fix it?

Answer:Equium A300D-13x stucks on installation screen

I?ve recovered my notebook many times and the installation went always troublefree.
But of course such installation issue could happen always and I think you should simply repeat this procedure.

If you don?t have Toshiba Recovery disk then try to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option.
Just press F8 while notebook powering up.
Then choose ?Repair my computer?. Then a new window will appear and you could select the new option called Toshiba HDD.

Check it out!

Hello, when I turn on or restart my laptop (Compaq 6730b, OS Win7 64 bit), it begins to start, but after a few seconds it  stucks on screen with HP logo and label "Press the ESC key for startup menu". After that begin to flash NumLock and CapsLock diods on laptop - maybe two or three times. But nothing happens, although I press ESC or any other key. Only I can do is to turn off laptop and try it again, sometimes many times on an on till OS starts properly. I have permanently plugged in many peripherals - external monitor, external keyborad, mouse, webcam, speakers and I have laptop permanently plugged in charger. Maybe this facts could be cause of the problem, i guess, because when I turn laptop itself without any peripherals, this problem didnt appear. I'll be very thankful for any advice to solve this unpleasant problem. Thanks a lot. Regards miiichal

Try running the Windows System File Checker (SFC)
Instructions: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
If that doesn't help, try doing a full scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

I have a Toshiba Portege Z930-D3S laptop. I wanted to run a system recovery and did everything exactly as in the manual page 4-24, Section System recovery Options. The tool told me that the recovery partition is empty (or something like this) and the recovery cannot be performed. I definitely did not erase it and do not how it can be. Then there was an option to erase sdd and I thought that this might help (don't ask me why) and that the tool would erase everything but the recovery partition. So, I chose it.

Now I have the frozen screen with "Toshiba Leading Innovation" and cannot enter any menu neither by pressing 0, nor by holding F8. I cannon restart the laptop, it seems that it simply fall asleep when I press the power button.

Please, help me to recover the system.

Four days ago I installed BB flashback software but due to some problems I had to uninstall it and the installation didn't complete. After that day, whenever I open my Toshiba Laptop the windows vista boots normally but stucks at 'please wait while your system is preparing' screen. After waiting for a long time, I opened task manager, ended that running screen and then my laptops works just fine. I don't know what's that. I tried system restore many times but it always ends up unsuccessful. Later on I even installed BB flashback successfully and a new anti-virus AVG, but the problem persists. Any idea and any suggestions please???

Hello all,

I recently decided to upgrade the Memory in my lovely laptop.
I went online, found suitable RAMs and ordered.

What i got are 2 of these:

Installation is very easy, but as soon as i turn on my laptop, it stucks in a black screen with a white underscore upright.

I guess its a incompatibility problem ?
Could you please help me out?

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L675-10T stucks in a black screen after new RAM upgrade

I think you are right? it looks like the modules are not fully compatible even if the online dealer page says they are?
You can remove the new RAM modules just to check if the notebook would boot up properly? I guess the unit will power up correctly?.

Solution??? Use another RAM modules? I made good experience using Kingston modules? they could be a little bit expensive but I think they should work properly.

I have a Satellite Pro C850-1FN and for some reason it gets stuck in a Preparing automatic repair screen on bootup. It will sit with the text on the screen and then after about 8 minutes a blue screen will show talking about a problem and then the PC re-boots.

The cycle is then continued.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite Pro C850-1FN stucks in Preparing Automatic Repair screen

It looks like the automatic repair isn?t possible.
Did you try another option ? HDD recovery?

The HDD recovery procedure would start new system as well as driver installation and would set the notebook back to factory settings.

I think if system repair isn?t possible, your next step should be the HDD recovery.
In case the HDD recovery would not work too, then you should use the Recovery disk.

Dear supporters,

Model: Satellite L775D-10W
OS: Win7 64 bit
Problem: The booting procedure gest stuck after "Windows loads data" and a progress bar undertitled with "Microsoft Corporation", resulting in a black screen and a moveable mouse cursor.

The same problem occurs everytime...
pressing F8 >> all options (icluding safe mode) >> boot gets stuck
Booting from Win7 64-bit DVD >> boot gets stuck
Booting from Win7 64-bit DVD >> all options >> boot gets stuck

Is it likely that the graphic card is broken or that the corresponding driver is not fitting anymore?

Thank you for your time in advance!

Answer:Satellite L775D-10W - Boot stucks: Black screen + mouse cursor visible

Graphic card problem might be possible but in such case the POST (power on self test) would not be passed and in my opinion it would not be possible to access the BIOS.

However, this is just a theory?
Try to boot the notebook using some Live CD like Linux

I would also recommend you to start the advanced boot menu. (pressing F8) and to choose Repair my Computer option.
Then choose ?Toshiba HDD recovery?

This option would recover the notebook back to factory settings.

I have the same problem. When turning on the laptop screen goes to white, I can hear windows starting but cannot see anything. I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded. I then took the whole laptop apart and discovered the LCD cable was frayed due to a faulty laptop hinge. I replaced the cable and it was the same, just white. The problem I think is with the motherboard and the intergrated video card. Upon taking the whole thing apart I noticed that where the video card plugs in is right where the heat sink is and the cooling fan which gets exceptional hot. I figure it has fried the board to the extend the monitor will not work where it is plugged in, but the external monitor will work but only when windows boots. So sad to say because of the the heat this laptop puts off and if you have it sitting on your lap or bed or anywhere else that it cannot cool properly it has over heated and you will have to get a new motherboard.

Moderator note: Moved from this thread -

Answer:Laptop screen starts up white and stays white

"I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded"... This is normal behavior because the video signal to the external monitor is not sent until Windows loads. If you can see normal video, the motherboard video chip is good

Computer covers whole screen with either white, or white with black, and blue stripes. Multiple times a day.?
This computer was bought in 2005, (HP Media Center PC). Within the second week this freezing(it freezes, and the screen has a white or white with black and blue stipes) occured( yes second week, my brother was uninformed and thought it was normal and didnt return it. It happened often enough as to save anything you were working on every ten to twenty minutes on a bad day. It settled and slowly became less of a problem, then stoped. One day he got a virus and had to restore the computer, the freezing started up again. same as last time, it settled then stoped, a month later, i recieved this computer as a hand me down, as my brother went to college and got a MAC. That was in mid summer of 2008, a week and a half ago, i got a huge virus, i restored my computer, and the freezing started up again, after not doing it once for over a year. It has gotten as bad as freezing every 30 minutes some nights. And earlier today it froze, i turned off and on my computer, went down stairs, and when i came back it was frozen again. I had not even used and program. Please help if you have any idea whats wrong!
Things to keep in mind...
-It only happened after the computer was restored, or bought(ish)
-Its not a normal freeze where you see the programs on the screen still, the screen goes completely white, or white with black and blue stripes.
-4 years old

Answer:Screen Freezes and turns white or white with stripes

Then maybe it isn't freezing at all. Maybe there's a problem with your monitor, vga cable, or video card.

Try a different monitor/cable and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, then try reseating the video card--if any--and if that doesn't work I suggest getting a cheap one from someone's old pc at least to test with.

Installing a new video card can be complicated, but google search for a guide or follow the setup instructions for the video card to the letter and you'll have no problems.

Hi. And thanks for reading this post.
Description: Windows 7 Starter (netbook) loads , desktop is visible for about 30 seconds, then is taken over by a white screen with a submit box on the right bottom portion of the screen. Other than a one-line warning that says "You have 30 seconds to connect to the internet," there are no other messages or directions. I suspect it is some type of flawed ransomware, with an intelligent, very well-hidden code.
From a USB, using command prompt, I've tried several dozen malware scanners including HitmanPro and MalwareBytes without success.
The computer was infected on 11/18/15 and the virus seems to have deleted any previous restore point(s).
The white screen virus locks up Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking. The white screen also launches when trying to use explorer.exe or opening up notepad to save a file to the desktop. Tried to use a new user account to bypass the virus, but the white screen locks up the new user account in the same way.
Safe Mode with Command Prompt works.
I am thankful to be here for some professional help and look forward to the learning experience.
I followed Bleeping Computer's directions and uploaded the relevant logs from a recently run Farbar scan.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

My laptop is able to boot up normally. But when I want to log in to my account, it stucks at "Loading your personal settings" screen. I waited for quite sometime but it is still stuck there and my profile is not uploaded. I tried many times. But discovered I am able to log in to administrator account and use it without problems. I had even done a system restore but it does not solve the problem. It was working fine till now. I had this problem before and had to reformat it. But I do not want to. Is there any way to solve this problem? Please help. I really need to access to this account.

If you can log in to the administrator account then you should be able to resolve this.Log in as the admin, then openC:\Documents and Settings\your.usernameSelect Tools > Folder Options > View Select "Show hidden files and folders"This folder contains all the information relating to your account. For the time being, you can access files this way.To resolve the problem, I would try renaming the folders in C:\Documents and Settings\your.username one at a time. Then log off, and try logging on Rename "Application Data" to "Application Data Old"Log off administratorLog on as your.usernameIf this failsLog on as administratorRename "C:\Documents and Settings\your.username\application data old" back to C:\Documents and Settings\your.username\application dataRepeat this process for each folder.

Hi, Let me start by saying I've tried unplugging the AC adapter and the battery, and holding down the power button for a full 60 seconds (just for good measure). The laptop will run on AC power with or without the battery inserted.  When the battery is inserted -- whether the laptop is on or off -- the battery LED blinks orange, then white 3 times, then goes off.Windows shows the battery as "42%, not charging."  It also registers when the battery is removed and plugged back in while running. Is this a hardware issue that needs repair, or will replacing the battery itself fix my issue? Thanks in advance.

I can't tell exactly when this started as I have upgraded the NVIDIA drivers as well as the Dell bios and switched from running the onboard Intel HD 630 to GTX 750ti , but now on a cold boot, with the fast startup off, the screen flashes white for a sec after the Dell logo. It could possibly be white noise but I can't focus on it fast enough. It doesn't happen on restarts. I'm connected via hdmi out to a LG TV.
Dell XPS 8910 using the NVidia GTX 750ti and an HDMI TV as monitor Bios version is 1.1.0 ,1.1.0 Original version was 1.0.9, 1.0.9, can I revert back to 1.0.9 ?

1: When the screen shows a dark picture, then when I immediately switch back to a mostly white picture, it's far duller, and gradually (over the course of about 10 seconds), the white screen lightens more and more. I presume this is a battery saving feature. Can I disable it somehow? 2: Fan issues. Although the fan is quiet, I'd rather it be quieter still (or even silent). From previous experience, I know Lenovo tends to (heavily) err on the side of caution, but I'd rather be able to control the fan speeds more directly. Can I somehow half the fan speed or by some other arbitray amount? I'll keep an eye on temperatures, and I know all the risks.

Hi picked up a Laptop at a car boot sale (Fujitsu Amilo Li 2735) sold as not working only paid a couple of pounds for it, have switched it on and the screen is white with a bar down one side, just wondering if anyone could shed some light on the problem, could it be just the inverter or maybe the screen itself. If its just the inverter might be worth a repair.
Thanks in advance.
It has 2gig ram
160gig H/D

Answer:Fujitsu Amilo Li 2735 screen is white, is it inverter or screen

If the laptop screen is white that means the backlight is working so it would not be an inverter fault
Try it out on an external monitor that will tell you if the rest of the machine is working
If it is then perhaps a troll around on e-bay will locate a working top half to transplant if the cost is right
Cheers HC

I have never seen a screen like this in the 20 years I've had my own computer.

I had Windows 8 on a secondary drive as a dual boot with Windows 7 temporarily as I migrated to Windows 8. I somehow messed up either the boot loader or somehow corrupted the Win8 install for which I'll skip the details for now. But it was just as I was starting to decommission my Win7 install (I removed one drive from the 2-drive mirror running Win7 but figuring the single disk left would still run in a 'degraded' status. It ended up messing something up.).

I've been running bootrec /fixmbr, fixboot, scanos, and rebuildBCD from my Win8 USB stick and it says it completed but no luck on booting. I get either 0xc0000001 or 0xc000021a errors. Auto repair can't fix it.

I tried running this command, "bcdboot c:\windows /s c:", and got the screen shown in the attachment. White vertical lines on an orange background.

The only drives connected is the Win8 SSD sata drive and a DVD drive on IDE. I disconnected the DVD drive and the Win8 flash screen would appear with the circular dots but would freeze right there.

I don't have logs or screenshots to show but the single partition on the SSD is marked as active via diskpart (no system reserve partition), bcdedit shows c:\windows as the default location of the OS, diskpart shows the partition as c:, but the DVD drive is disk0, and the SSD is disk 1. Would that be a problem?

It is like it can't find the winload.exe file but I verified it exists... Read more

Answer:'White Vertical Lines on Orange Screen' Screen of Death

Have you tried putting the removed drive back in?

It looks like a video card problem (hardware) to me - but it shouldn't be that because you're able to use the USB Startup Repair functions (am I right in this assumption?). That means (to me) that it's likely to be a video driver problem (?).

Can you attempt to boot into Safe Mode? If so, what happens?
Does the screen problem show up after POST is completed? If so, at what point does it show up?

The screen of U400 has a pea-sized white spot. I beliebe it's a dead pixel.  The screen may need repairs. I either have 4 days of limited 1-year waranty left or it just ran out.  Can someone please let me know how much screen replacement would cost?  Thanks!

Hi Guys,

Long time, thankfully, but here I am again. Last week, I went through several of the steps in the procedure, but stopped at the point where you ask, "Are you still having problems?" I was giving it a couple of days to see, and yes, I am. I have also read through posts, but since instructions are for each specific user/situation, I am posting a new thread as instructed.

My first question is, do you want the logs that were created before, last week, or should I start fresh today now that I have a thread?

Thanks. Karen

Answer:Random white screen crashes, must reboot; sometimes blue screen

Hi, fresh logs from running procedures now would be great.

Hello, I have a Lenovo T440s. I was just using it last night and everything was okay, but today when I turn it on I get a white screen with gray bars on the sides. I have tried removing the battery and rebooting it several times. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions to get rid of this white and gray screen to a proper display again? This is a work computer, so I want to do everything I can to make sure it's okay for when I go back to work after vacation. Thank you!

Answer:Gray/White Screen Lenovo T440s at Boot Screen

Totally white screen usually means unplugged cable, but white with gray sounds like a broken panel or sick motherboard

I'm not sure if this is one virus or if my computer has somehow picked up several, but it is pretty much completely screwed. I can't access ANYTHING properly so i am posting this message from another computer.

This is what happens when I turn my computer on:

1. blank blue screen with program error message: "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows....".
2. if i click "ok" the message goes away and i am left with a blank blue screen and i have to reboot the computer
3. if i don't click ok windows starts to load up an looks normal at first but then another error message pops up (the same one) and the screen turns black and says some junk like "Warning! You're in danger!" and then some junk about spyware.
4. then a few seconds later another error message pops up and the screen turns white and says "Active Desktop Recovery. Microsoft Windows has experienced and unexpected error..." It gives me an option to "click here to restore" but nothing happens when i do click it.
5. and then another error message pops up and the screen goes black again, then another message and it goes white and so on.

I can't really open any programs properly because another error message will pop up and shut down the start menu before i get a chance to open anything.

I managed to run ad-aware and it found some problems that i cleaned up. then spybot found nothing. then i rebooted and was having the same ... Read more

Answer:explorer.exe error black screen, white screen, about:blank

Yes, you've got a few malware entries in there (a CoolWebSearch hijack, and a couple of trojans), though it's not going to be easy to remedy without seeing the complete HJT log. Can you possibly copy the log to floppy and then post it from the other computer?

What's the Windows OS?
eg. Is it Windows 2000 sp4? Or is it WinXP Pro sp2?

What version of HijackThis is it? v1.99.1 is the latest version.
Is HijackThis.exe running from a permanent folder, and not from within a zip file in a Temp folder?
This is important. Make sure HijackThis.exe is installed in eg.
C:\Program Files\HijackThis

Don't worry about WINNT / winnt and System32 / system32
They are both exactly the same (whether smallcase or uppercase or a mixture).
svchost.exe is legitimate and is an integral part of Windows NT/2k/XP (Services Host).
It is normal to have multiple instances of it running.

Anyway, try this for now...

The specs of my laptop are: Asus G73J, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870, Intel I7, Windows 7 64-bit.

About a month ago I updated my graphics driver. Then, when starting my laptop the screen was white and there was no display. However, if I press the power button and make the laptop go to sleep, and then wake it up, the display starts immediately.
I tried reverting the driver, but I had a problem with flash player which I could not resolve (Even after contacting ATI), and so I decide the white screen problem was less of an issue and updated the drivers again.
This time, the problem is the same as described above. I've also noticed that if I connect my laptop via a hdmi to a TV, the display starts immediately. It's as if the graphics unit is working fine, and so is the screen, but upon startup the graphics doesnt say to the screen 'hey, it's time to start now'! Instead, this message must be sent by either sleeping-waking up the laptop or connecting a hdmi cable.
Does anyone have any ideas? Perhps it's boot-drivers or something I can change in the BIOS menu?

Answer:Screen white on start up. Graphics and screen work fine.

you may want to roll back on the previous driver for your graphic card you had.

I have a white screen upon startup. I was able to use my laptop when plugging the VGA cable in the back to an external monitor but that only works with a few tries.
I notice if i put my laptop on sleep for less than 2 hours the external monitor works.
Any time longer and I have to start the process of removing and inserting the plug and playing with my external monitor so it can detect a signal, it usually takes a few tries and a few minutes.
The white screen is always on my laptop throughout the process and even when the external monitor works.
Just determining if i should replace me screen or ribbon video cable or check my connection to my vga cable or could it be my motherboard.

any help or direction is appreciated.
Thank you!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 screen problem - white screen & external monitor works if I jiggle the plug

We need to isolate if the issue is with the LCD or the video card. So, turn off the system - press and hold the "d" + power key to turn it back on - this should initiate the LCD built in self test. You should see a screen with solid changing colors and the system would beep. If you see this - the LCD is fine. If you do not see the colors changing - then repeat the step again - but this time - swivel the LCD back and forth and see if there is any display. If the display is intermittent then the LCD cable needs reseating/replacing.
Also, turn off the system and press and hold the "fn" key + power button to turn it back on - wait for a few minutes. If you do not see any display, the system should start beeping. Count the number of beeps per cycle. At any point if you see the screen with solid colors changing - the LCD is fine. The issue is with the video card/motherboard. If do not see the changing colors - then we would suspect the LCD.
Test the system with another VGA cable for the external monitor.
If the system is under warranty, then please send me the service tag of the system and your contact details through a private conversation. Or you could use twitter - @dellcares - we can DM through twitter and help you fix the issue.

Hi guys I have a interrmittant Light blue screen or White Screen while loading battlfield play4free.

I recall having screen freezes (BF play4free) before I upgraded the Video card on this secondary PC. They continued after the new videocard was installed, but not as frequent.
More recently I suspected a virus infection after another person borrowed my PC. I posted in the malware removal forums and was told PC is clean so far. here is link
I was told to post in another section so I starting with hardware as it seems like a hardware issue due to the re-occurance even after re-installs.

Latest issues are light blue screen freeze after starting Battlefield play4free game(forced to reboot with button). Also lost internet connection at the same time as suspected malware infection.
I had a white screen freeze of whole monitor after leaving PC on all night(not using it but BF play4free was running.
I got a mostly black screen with various artifacts while trying to load the BM "Call of Pripyat"
I think maybe the scanners used in the malware forum may have helped but I still have main symptoms re-occurring.

I am providing an update of events and other information on the PC, in hopes of finding a solution quicker.

I still see Searchnu is working in google chrome as my search provider even though I have removed all associated software. It may also be collecting information on me as well so I am aware of this. A reinstall may be required as this is my back up PC which should remain bug free. I should have backups as well but not this time (image backups you know). I was told my PC was free of malware by tim so I dunno. (Screen Shot number two)

Before I forget last night there was another freeze of the game BFPlay4Free, luckily I was in windowed mode and could go to task manager to kill the process(BFP4f.exe). I have a screenie of that time and effects of redraw failure(I think)I have been running games this morning and seems to be working with exception of one problem with a white screen upon starting the game(log out and relog in cures this). I have noticed the responsiveness is poor compared to before. This may be to general hardware that is installed at the moment. ie slower WD 160 SATA 1 drive maybe? I thought it was SATA 2 but I do not know for sure till I take it out and look(looking ASAP). Also this was intended as a back up PC and not a fast speed demon due to the use of DDR2 800 RAM most of the time(reminds me I need to look for one more stick of Corsair DDR2 800).

Lately for some reason, when I view videos online, when I click on "full screen" all I get is a blank white screen. I'm using IE8 w/XP sp3. If I hit "escape", it will exit and go back to the smaller screen just as it normally would. It does this with any online video, Youtube, news videos, what have you, but does not do that when viewing videos offline. I tried the latest FF, it does not have that problem. Please do not tell me to just switch to FF, I want to fix this problem with IE.

Update: It also goes white when I try to go full screen while viewing slide shows in Photobucket.

Answer:White screen when viewing videos in full screen

My best guess is that the things you are trying to view require the latest versions of programs like adobe, java, flash player, or quick time. Make sure that you're updated with the latest software. I'm not exactly a tech guru, so go easy on me if what I just said is stoopid

I have an Acer laptop with Windows 7.
This morning I woke it up and everything looked fine, I could see the desktop, my browser etc. I share the machine so I leave him logged into his things on firefox and I log in with IE as much as I hate the browser. I opened IE and got my homepages but the internet was sluggy so I moved the laptop closer to our network. When I sat down I must have hit something (I believe now that I did not) on the keyboard as the computer suddenly shut itself down. I got it back up, got the login screen, typed in my password and got a whitish screen. I could see my cursor, even click on what I believe was the quicktask bar. I got the 'working' cursor as it opened whatever I asked it to. I just couldn't see anything but the cursor. I hit the power button and suddenly I saw the wallpaper and my desktop but only because it needed me to click on the 'close anyway' button cause there was a program preventing the shut down.

I tried a restart in safemode and got the same reaction. No change, accept it (without me near the machine) restarted, so I believe I didn't hit something the first time. If I Ctrl+alt+del, I get the screen that asks me what I want to do but the task manager never shows up when I select it. Do I have a virus? Or is something wrong with his new laptop (bought late 2011 early 2012, I don't remember)

Answer:Login screen fine, then white screen with cursor

I have a brand new HP Pavilion with a touch screen. Out of the box I noticed there was a white speck on the screen which I couldn't wipe off. When I turned the screen on the speck appears to be black. The speck returns to white when the screen is on, but displaying something dark. This seems to me to be strange behavior for a dead pixel, but I don't know anything about the new touch screens.  I found a 'dead pixel test' online, and against red and green backgrounds the speck appeared black, while the test would indicate that it should appear white were it so.  I think that the speck seems to be 'above' the rest of the screen slightly. Does anyone know what this is?

Hi there, I hope everyone is well.

I have a strange issue that started happening recently. System restore doesn't help as it happens with multiple machines.

I have a lobby display running from TV via HDMI to EXTRON to Ethernet and back again to the computer in the server room. I have had this setup for a little over a year now working just fine. We recently got a new computer (We lease) for the lobby display and after setting it up, I only see a black screen with a white cursor. I have troubleshot this a little too much that I am now not sure if it's a windows update, video card update, or possible the EXTRON. However, when hooking up a laptop it works just fine as it should.

Please note that I can see post boot and the CTRL ALT DELETE screen just fine, but once logged in I just see cursor. If someone moves cursor I can see it from the lobby display. If I uninstall the video card driver I see everything perfectly fine but when running presentation it's not focused for obvious reasons, so I can't leave it like that.

I have used a Desktop with AMD and latest drivers as well as down graded drivers, issue still is present. I use an older nvidia card FX570, same deal with drivers, still the issue is present. I use a new computer with a new nvidia card, and it works. but unfortunately we do not have any of those available and that's a really expensive machine.

here is where it gets even more strange;

I didn't really know where to post this. I'm new to this forum and I got a problem with my very old and bad PC.

Specs: (don't laugh)
Motherboard: Leonite-GL8E / ASUS P5LP-LE / leonite 5.00
CPU: Intel Pentium D 915 2.8GHz
GRAPHIC CARD: Idk how to check this without turning the pc as it doesn't load the windows?

Whenever I turn my PC white stripes appear on the screen while booting and loading windows then they change to blue. I had Windows 7 Ultimete x64 and a blue screen appeared all the time while loading the system and said something about graphic card. I then done a format to Windows XP as it didn't even let me instal new any Windows 7 system and the XP worked fine but the stripe were still there although only while booting.

There's few pictures how it looks. Please help.

Answer:White stripes on the screen while booting then blue screen.

Either power supply can't deliver enough power for graphics card or graphics card is dying but this white stripes indicate that it's probably second one.

Well you can check graphics card model by looking at it-you may recognize it;or there is a sticker on the graphics card from which you could read it's model.

Hi, I've been having this problem. When I start my computer, the whole screen is white for awhile, then it turns black. There is no windows startup logo or my computer brand logo. Then my screen starts flashing and the power button on my monitor blinks and the monitor makes TOK sounds every 2 seconds and then the screen flashes and starts doing that over and over until it decides to make the whole screen white and stay like that. Here's what it looks like:
I tried manually restarting my computer by holding the power button and after a few tries, sometimes, if I'm lucky, it will let me login and then everything is fine.
Today, I went through this process and today I tried turning off the monitor when the screen was white. It restarted and black flashing but made the screen turn white faster. I just kept trying, turning the monitor off and on again because I didn't know what to do. Then I was so lucky, the login page for windows came up and I was able to login; now everything is normal. I can go online and everything without any problems until I shut down my computer and start it up again. Then it's back to square one.
Can anyone help me fix this problem? Should I buy a new monitor? I've had this one for a few years, but my desktop is new; It's one year old in 3 days. (April. 4)
Thanks in advance!

I've got a problem with my laptop, a 2010 HP G60-635DX. First, a little history. This was my wife's laptop until she dropped it and broke the display screen. We hooked it up to a monitor and she was good to go. Last Christmas I got her a new computer and again she was all set. In the meanwhile I've been using this old Dell laptop from 2006 with WinXP in it. Works, but is slow as all get out. A few months ago I decided to use my wife's old computer for myself. It comes with Windows 7 and works quite well. Last June I made the mistake of trying the Windows 10 upgrade, and what a disaster that turned out to be. So I reverted back to Win7, but I lost all the drivers that came with it, so I was stuck. So recently I bought a new screen for my wife's old computer, and I installed it today. So guess what? The screen works fine, but all I get is a blank white screen Nothing at all! It's as if the computer can't display anything at all. I just don't understand it. The computer fires up, but that's it. No start screen, no nothing. Just a blank white screen.
Anybody have any ideas as to what's wrong, and how I could fix this?

Toshiba Satellite M300 about 18months old (using Windows 7). Display has had intermittent problems. Screen flashes on and off to a white screen. Now if lid is moved while working, the screen "whites out" completely and returns to normal when returned to "the sweet spot"!

Haven't tried another monitor yet. Driver is up to date. Assuming it is a 'bad connection' maybe. Use power off with close of lid have changed that tonight.

Any ideas? :)

Answer:Satellite M300 - Screen flashes on and off to a white screen

Hi KezRev,

Theoretically it could be a internal display issue or cable connection problem but you should test another monitor firstly. Just connect an external monitor to check the picture there.

If the external monitor works properly it?s either the internal LCD cable or display malfunction. Therefore contact a service provider and let the technicians check your notebook. They can fix this problem and order new spare parts. :)

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that on Sunday while I was using it mysteriously shut off and then rebooted and when it came back on instead of getting a log in screen to log into windows it just has a black screen with a white cursor. The computer is running Windows Vista. I was on facebook at the time it did this and I also was using my iPhone as a hotspot via usb cable.   I am also having this same issue with my Dell all-in-one desktop computer which is also running Vista. It mysteriously did the same thing on Saturday. It was having other issues prior to the black screen that I was getting help with so when my laptop ended up having the exact same black screen with cursor instead of log in screen I was confused since it wasn't having the other issues the other computer was having prior to it happening to it.  I am getting help for that computer on TechSpot.  Could my iPhone have a virus or something that transferred to my desktop and then my laptop via the usb cable? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks!

Greetings to all,
I have this annoying screen problem that has finally taken its toll on me. While doing anything online (Google, Email, Surfing etc) my computer screen will freeze and then go a white translucent color.
It happens across the board on anything I may be working on.
If I am in Google, and I'm also checking email, or working on an Excel Sheet, all 3 things will freeze and go white.

I have attached my HijackThis Log, as well as the DDS and Attach txt.
Please let me know if there is any other info that is needed to help me solve this annoying problem.

The freeze usually lasts a minute sometimes 2...and as you can imagine, when you're working at a frantic pace, having to stop and start is really annoying.
I have run all my antivirus software (AdAware, AVG, CCleaner) but nothing fixes it.

Hope someone can offer some help.

Only user on this laptop. Having porn pop ups, I don't surf sites like that. Have had problems with screen flickering or going black, but if I log into my admin account where the pop up showed up, the screen does not flicker. The last few times I have booted my screen goes white, then loads.

Question: white screen

several times every day the screen on my monitor starts to, I guess you would describe it as "to flutter", then goes white. not the whole screen, the toolbars and even the clock are still visible. I even tested the monitor on my xp computer and no problems at all. it's just the part of the screen, when it's hooked back up to the 8.1 pc, where i'm on line. could this be the software? or something else?

Question: White screen

Sorry guys but I wasn't sure where to post this, whenever I'm on the forums and I scroll the bottom of my screen gets white and if I scroll fast it pulls the white all the way up until the bottom half of my screen is white, and then the white part drops to the bottom and disappears. In other words, as I scroll it pulls the white up , when I stop it drops down. I know it's not my computer because I just reinstalled Windows, it happens on the other PCs I have and MajorGeeks is the only site it happens on. Anybody else seeing this ?

Answer:White screen

Hi Nick

Software forum seems fine for this so no worries, in any event we would move it to appropriate area for you.

What Windows version and service pack do you have?
Also did you install all the drivers again and do not take the ones Microsoft offer in the install of Windows as the be all and end all ones, so re-install chipset and graphics driver as I feel the graphics driver is the issue here, as it seems a refresh problem perhaps.

Look in Device Manager and check for yellow ! marks.

Ah now you mention other PCs so the above may be mute, but check on the newly installed PC.

Now if happening on other PCs do you use same browser on all, if so what? have you tried a different browser and updated media files as in Java and Flash etc?

Hey guys and gals I'm running into an issue with a T-60 laptop's lcd screen. When it's docked on the docking station the video display is fine on the external monitor. However, once we take it off the dock and try to use the laptop's lcd screen the entire screen will become bright. This is will go back and forth a few times and will eventually stay with this white colored hue throughout the whole screen. I checked all of the settings and I feel that it's not a setting with the computer itself or the OS, more like a hardware issue. I'm nudging towards the motherboard's video card but was also wondering if it could be the lcd's inverter board. Any help or ideas would be great, thanks all.

Answer:IBM T60 white hue over lcd screen

If the display is fine on the external monitor then I don't think it's the Video card, i don't know the inside of the laptop monitor but it would most likely be the Laptop LCD by the sounds of it.

I'm not overly tech savvy, but my issue is a white screen on my HPG62 laptop, it just started earlier today, and only seems to happen when I restart the laptop, where it occurs instantly when i power on, but sometimes doesnt, or when im loading a game of League of Legends. Im using the laptop at this moment to post, also I've already used MalwareBytes to scam my computer twice and havent found any form of virus or malware so im hoping somebody here will have an answer, thank you

Answer:Need Help With a White Screen

This may be an issue with your LCD screen of the Video card which is soldered to the Motherboard.
You can start by going to the HP Drivers site, finding your model # and download the latest Video driver for your model HP Support, Drivers, Contact and Help Forums | HP ? Support
If you still have problems, it is probably a hardware issue

Question: White Screen

Hi, I just started having this white screen issue today.
It seems that my laptop have a permanent white screen, the moment I pressed the ON button.
I can still adjust my screen lighting, and couldn't try the rest since I can't seen anything on my screen.
I've searched on net, and mostly referred to a white screen after start up and with the mouse scroll, but mine is just empty without anything.
Please help me, I have a lot of important files that I need access to.

Answer:White Screen

Can you plug in a monitor? Most laptops have a port for this.

If so is it booting past the BIOS screen into Windows? What do you see on the monitor screen? If it's also white then it sounds like the video chip is failing and may need replacement. If the monitor gives a picture then it could only be the laptop screen needing reseating or replacement.

Your files should always be backed up against failures like this. If you cannot get your screen working then you can remove the Hard Drive from its bay underneath - instructions for most models are found by asking Google - and connect it via a converter cable to USB or to plug it in internally to a desktop's SATA port, giving access to your data.

Question: White screen

While working on my computer, the screen suddenly turned white leaving me with no option beyond re-booting. After re-booting, there was no change in the screen. I, then, turned off the computer until the following day. At that point, I turned on the computer and it booted normally. Any idea what caused this problem? Thank you for your help. Jerry

Answer:White screen

Saying "while working on the computer" doesn't tell us anything.
Exactly what were you doing to it when the display issue occurred?

Is it still working okay now?

Question: White screen

hey im having an issue where my screen turns white as soon as it logs me into windows.
i can ctrl alt delete and try to open the task manager, but it immediatly goes back to the white screen.
same thing in safe mode.
if i click log out i see the desktop for a fraction of a second, but i cant stop the logout process....
i have the ability to connect the harddrive to my laptop using a sata to usb converter...
i was wondering what would be best to scan the drive with to remove this virus...
im currently trying malwarebytes and spybot....
are there files i should watch for to delete?

i see most the posts asking others to run this or that file while booted off the harddrive, but i cannot launch anything in the background using a run command.

Answer:White screen

so for those who have had the same problem, i fixed it by booting regularly into windows and messing with log in and log off untill i got it to stop part way through. Then i quickly got combofix running. once it did its thing and restarted everything ran well enough to scan the rest of the pc for infection.

Please Help,
I am running 64bit Vista on an HP Studio desktop, the computer is about 5 years old
about 14 days ago when I booted up the computer I logged on to my username and I was met with a white screen.
The computer boots up normally to the log on screen - When I select my login
- the screen goes black
- sometimes it will flash to my normal desktop
- it will then go entirely white
- when I type control alt delete I go to the normal window selection
- when I select "task manager" I return to the white screen or sometimes my desktop background with no icons
- if I select "shut down" after control alt delete the screen will flash to my desktop where I can see the task manager (if I previously selected it) and my desktop complete with icons
- if I select "switch user" after control alt delete I can select any of the other 2 log ins
I can log on to or switch to other users at start up by using control / alt / delete then switch user
I have tried a restore point from the normal windows control panel which did not work
I am in the process of running a restore point from safe mode - this is still in progress after 10 mins
I have ran a full Norton scan
I downloaded and ran "Norton deep scan" which made no difference
I have been running Norton virus software continuously for 6 or 7 years

Question: White Screen

Unfortunately, I cannot download ANY of the recommended programs or get any information from my computer to assist you in determining my problem. My friend was on my computer a couple weeks ago and said it was "acting funny" so I sat down to see what was going on. MY computer camera took a snapshot of me at the computer and a message came up directing me not to shut down and that in order to get my computer back up and running I must go to the site it was highlighting and send in payment because we were on a "forbidden" site. He WAS on a site that is questionable in taste but, as far as I know, not illegal. Anyway, I shut my computer down anyway but when I tried to restart it, all I get is a white screen. I can hear it running and making background sounds as if there are windows opening but I can't see anything. What can I do to get my computer to show ANYTHING? Thanks!

Question: White screen

My computer has a white screen, does anyone know how to fix this? It is a Toshiba Satellite A205 laptop.

Answer:White screen

Sadly this is a connection issue on the motherboard to the graphics...if it's still under warranty send it in and get it fixed..otherwise you can either send it in and pay the price of getting it fixed..or getting a new laptop..which most likly be about what they would charge you to fix it these days.

If you google your problem there are tons of post about this model doing the white screen issue unfortunatly..

Question: White Screen

I am working on a computer and have come across this problem, after removing various sypware and malware and getting it back online, I still have not been able to solve the problem of the white screen it has for a display, I can go into properties and change everything execpt for the desktop background, the options to choose different backgrounds are there but won't let me pick one also the browse option is not highlighted and not usable either. All other video works fine. The OS is XP Pro - Just need to find out how to change the desktop screen to anything but white.

Answer:White Screen

HI Mike46, How did you remove the spyware and malware? I would try un-installing the video driver and reboot the computer and let the Windows XP Pro re-install the video driver and see if that works. If it does not then I would backup all of my important data and do a repair-install and you will need the Windows XP Pro install disk and your COA.

Please print the document for reference while working.

Question: White screen?

I have a friend who's computer is running W7. For a while now, at random periods, her computer screen will go completely white. The mouse arrow will still be there and she can move the arrow around, but there is nothing else on the screen. She has to press and hold the power button to turn it off, then when she turns it back on, it all seems to work fine, until the next time.

I've heard of the Blue Screen of Death, the Black Screen of Death, but I've never heard of a White Screen of Death.

Is anyone familiar with this sort of problem?

Question: X1 White screen

Hi, We have changed the touchpad for X1 carbon by sending it to Lenovo vendor. The user worked on the laptop for couple of times before the screen goes white - literally and completely white. We could work on the laptop by connecting it to an external screen, but we need to know the solution for this problem... thank you.

Answer:X1 White screen

Hi IT-Support-Leb,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per your query we understood that you are facing a issue with white display while working on your ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
Regarding to this issue I suggest you to check with uninstalling the graphic driver from the system, if the system is shipped with additional graphic card then please uninstall both Onboard and Additional graphic driver from your system. Uninstall it from control panel ? program and feature option.
If the issue still persists after uninstalling the driver then the system could have problem with hardware related. It might be with display cable or with display panel, to confirm it you have to visit the nearby service center.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Question: White Screen

Hello, I have a HP G70 laptop and when the lid is in certain positions the screen goes completely white.I think it may be a loose wire but I don't know how to take it apart in order to check.I would greatly appreciate any help.ThanksGene

Answer:White Screen

This does indeed sound like a loose cable. If you feel comfortable enough to try to reseat the cable yourself HP gives end users the service manuals for their laptops online. is a link to the service manual for the model you specified.Laptop screen cables can be very fragile and caution should be exercised in the process.

Question: White screen?

I'm posting from another computer since mine is behaving badly. I can try to get any info you need but my luck has not been so good.
Computer was perfect until a few days ago-has updated Kaspersky and Advanced System Care on it. Suddenly the monitor started flashing, dim and bright while I was at the desktop. then the mouse became unresponsive. I shut it down and restarted. All my icons had become huge and the graphics were horrible-updated graphics drivers and things seemed normal. Computer worked for about 30 minutes, flashed , unresponsive and I shut it down. When I restart now, everything looks good as it goes through the loading screen-then it hangs up at a white screen for 45 seconds or so. It goes to the desktop and the flashing and unresponsiveness begin again.
Any ideas?

Question: White Screen!!

It's happened to me 3 times in a couple of weeks. Browsing, Firefox 3.5, the whole screen goes translucent white, you can see what you were doing through it but can't do a thing about it. I hide my taskbar, that rises to the occasion but none of the shortcuts work. They all recognise the cursor, but that's it. The right click menu pops up but again nothing works. Start Menu the same.

The only way out is to crash the thing with the power button and restart.

Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like a Firefox issue. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it? Be sure to download it directly from Mozilla.
