I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Disable touchpad with Windows 8.1

I searched for months trying to find a fix for this problem. This page provides the solution.
Just following the instructions above. You will download and install new touchpad driver which somehow got removed or disabled. After install and restart, go back to control panel and then mouse properties. The touchpad tab will be there after the download. Just turn it off and save and apply. Test the touchpad and it should be disabled. I hate microsoft and dell for putting me through this. The answer is so obvious but for some reason it throws people for a loop.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 we are unable to disable the touchpad for our 540p model Thinkpads. The "disable" toggle is not available under mouse settings or under the Ultranav tab. Anyone have any ideas of how to disable these as the trackpads are viewed by many as being substandard and an error point for some of our users. Thank you

If you wat to disable your touchpad on your 64-bit gateway laptop (my laptop is a M-1617) you need to first fdind 64-bit drivers for you laptop. Synaptics doesan't have what you need, Gateway doesn't support Windows 7. I finally found drivers that you can install and disable and enable at will. I downloaded the 32-bit & 64-bit drivers for the Gatewqahy NV73. It worked great...Just right-click on desktop, select personalize, select pointers, select touchpad, select disa ble....wala

If you are having issues finding drives, also check for an option in your system's BIOS. A lot of machines have an option to turn it off there as well.

You can diable the touchpad when an external mouse is connected like so:
In the control panel, select the menu item Mouse, then in the properties go to "Device Settings" and hit the checkbox "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached".

Search for touchpad turned up over 27000 hits, so sorry if this is redundant.
Windows 10 has installed a generic PS/2 Compatible Mouse driver on my Dell 1545.  No suitable driver is available for W10 from either Dell or Alps.  (R270497 ran when I first installed W10 but MS has somehow decided it is no longer operable after the "Anniversary Update" and refuses to install it.)
I am happy with the way the touchpad works with my Alps touchpad except for tapping.  I am too clumsy to have tapping active, and would really like to disable it.  Of course, the Dell Touchpad Settings software doesn't run on W10.  Quickset gives me no access to touchpad settings.
Does anyone know how to disable tapping on that touchpad?  Preferably a full-up package to make adjustment like Dell Touchpad Settings used to do.  But I would have no problem editing the Registry if someone could point to the proper parameter that would disable it if no full-up package is available.
Thanks.

Yesterday I installed Windows-7 on my Inspiron 1525 laptop.  I was
previously running Windows Vista and the Vista-driver for the touchpad
had the intelligence to detect the fact that I have a USB wireless-mouse
(Kensington brand) and so it disabled the touchpad each time I booted
the PC.
But under Windows-7 the touchpad was staying active. I didn't want it
to be active since that was causing problems when I inadvertently touched the touchpad as I was typing.
I went to the Synaptics website, went to the downloads section, and I
downloaded a driver named:
Synaptics_v14_0_3_C_XP32_Vista32_Win7-32_Signed_default.exe
I used Windows Explorer to access my downloads folder and I double
clicked on the above .exe file to run it.  That replaced the
Microsoft-supplied driver for the touchpad with the Synaptics-supplied
driver. The touchpad mouse control worked just fine with the new Synaptics driver.
Then I clicked Start,   Control Panel,   Mouse,   and selected the
Device Settings tab.  That tab displays the settings for the Touchpad.
It has a "disable" option, so I clicked on that.  Then the touchpad was
entirely disabled.   If I ever wish to enable it again, I can navigate
to the same place and click on the "Enable" button.
So now my laptop is running under Windows-7 with the touchpad disabled and I use my
USB wireless-mouse as my only mouse.

Just bought my Satellite P50-C-18k laptop yesterday - I do not like having tap to click as it seems to be over sensitive and accidentally selects various links as I move the cursor around.
So a simple task - how to disable tap to click on the touchpad - or seriously reduce the sensitivity.

I have of course gone to control panel and unchecked all of the various multiple finger options etc for the touchpad/Elan. I have also had a look at the mouse options but nothing obvious there. I downloaded the touchpad driver from the Toshiba website but that made no difference.

I noticed an earlier thread where people were messing around with the registry but on a different model so i dont really want to try that on my new laptop but if someone can confirm if thats suitable for use with Windows 10 (anniversary updated) 64 bit on the P50_C_18K I will give it a go.

The website is pretty frustrating - with Yoko offering tips that are not really helpful and no obvious way to make a quick phone call for support.

Hi

Have recently nuked my laptop and reinstalled everything to try and resolve a BSOD issue.

One minor annoyance I have been unable to overcome whilst reinstalling is that I want to turn the touchpad off as it has become really sensetive and really annoying! Trips to all sorts of sites (inc. Samsung) have not helped.

I have attached two images from the 'control panel/hardware and sound/mouse' window as I do not seem to have a tab called Device Settings that another W7 Samsung laptop I have access to has, in case it is part of the problem.

Any quick fixes please????

I updated an old G530 (4446-23U) with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit last night and everything more or less works (sound, wireless, webcam, etc.) but the one thing I'd really love to do is turn off the "tap to click" functionality on the TouchPad. I downloaded the Windows 7 64-bit drivers for the TouchPad from lenovo.com and although it did change some of the features that appear in the mouse settings in the control panel, disabling tap to click isn't one of the options. Any suggestions? Hi,
I would like to disable permanently on my notebook the touchpad, because I use a mouse.
To disable it, I do that operations:
1) Click on Start
2) Search "Mouse"
3) Click on "change touchpad settings" at the window's bottom
4) Then I have an "Enable/Disable" button
But, if I do it in that way, if I touch the pad for more than a second, it reactivates automatically.
I have big hands, so I usually have them on the pad, so it enables again very often.

Is there a method that disables it permanently, until I do it manually again ?
Thanks

Forgive me if this is in the wrong area.
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It kept prompting me to upgrade to Windows 10, so I did so.
Now the button that disables my touchpad (also the F5 button) is not working.
The touchpad will not turn off.

Secondly, when I try to move the cursor, the "right click" menu pops up wherever the cursor lands, and it will not let me type. I have to use an external mouse to click out of the menu, then put the cursor back where I wanted it to land.

How can I make the disable button on my keyboard work again, and how can I fix the mouse so that the right click menu only comes up if I actually right click?

Thank you!

What I do is install ThinkPad touchpad driver and uninstall thinkpad touchpad utility.  You may need to go to an older version of the driver, as Lenovo obviously doesn't bother with regression testing when releasing updated drivers.

Hi there I'm on the verge of returning my new U410 which, despite reviews indicating the contrary, has a very frustrating touchpad that the palm sensitivity adjustor does not fix.  In fact I don't think it adjusts the sensitivity one iota. So I've read that Fn+F6 or Fn+F8 should allow me to disable it while I'm writing, but they do nothing.  I'm working in Microsoft Word, if that matters (it shouldn't though, right?).  I'm on Win8, computer is brand new and I installed the latest touchpad driver but must say it never launched or I never saw it launch (I'm not sure it should, or if it should just be in the background).   Between that and the worst wireless problems ever, not to mention that the heavier graphics card apparently does nothing to improve video performance, I am tempted to return this.  So frustrating.  Please help if you know about the touchpad though, being able to disable it would go a long way!

Answer:Disable touchpad function keys not working Ideapad u410 Windows 8

hi bwrightd,

Regarding your concern:
1. If you have the same keyboard layout like in this picture (hotkey mode disabled in the BIOS) then you just need to press the key below to enable/disable the touchpad.

Alternatively, you can also use Touchfreeze to automatically disable the Touchpad while typing.

2. For the wireless issue, you may wanna check this thread as other users found it helpful to resolve the issue.
3. For the video performance, try the following:
    a. Set the power settings to high performance (Link to picture)
    b. Configure Nvidia Control Panel's "Power management mode" from Adaptive to Maximum Performance - see this guide
    c. Follow this guide on how to add an app to use with the Nvidia Optimus Technology.

Hope this helps

Dell 2-in-1 3147:
The "DELL Pointing Devices" dialog shows a "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" checkbox. If this checkbox is clear, the touchpad works properly. When this checkbox is marked, the touchpad does not work at all.
I have tried both USB and Bluetooth mice, and neither one allows the proper action: the touchpad should be enabled without a mouse, and the touchpad should be disabled with a mouse.  That's how it works on other systems.  It just doesn't work at all on this system.
I suspect there is some interaction between the touchpad and the touchscreen that is interfering with this setting.  But I have another laptop with a touchpad and a touchscreen, and the mouse detection works there (it's not a DELL).
Yes, I have toyed with the idea of deleting the DELL touchpad control application and installing a "stock" Synaptics touchpad driver.  But I don't want the DELL  "update" app to overwrite it with the DELL touchpad control app every time it sees "the wrong driver" loaded.  And I don't want to take the chance that the touchpad driver and the touchscreen driver are somehow linked together, thus disabling one when I disable the other.
Any ideas on how to get the "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" action working would be welcome.

Hi all,
I just got this Dell Inspiron laptop about 2 wks ago, i5-6200U 8GB RAM, Windows 10. I did not go for the pre-installed McAfee trial. I installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2016. It has been several days now that I get a Windows notification saying that Kaspersky firewall  and Windows firewall are disabled. I tried turning on Windows firewall but the option remains grayed out. When I open Kaspersky it shows that my computer is protected and no mention of anything being disabled. I completely removed Kaspersky from the system and only then I was able to turn on Windows firewall. Now I am relying on Windows firewall and Windows defender.Another thing that has been happening almost daily is  this notification saying that Intel HD Graphics had stopped working and has recovered. I don't think I want to reinstall Kaspersky. At Best Buy they told me that they use Bitdefender. I am leaning towards that, but since I have no idea what is going on, I just wanna wait a while. I hear a lot of complaints about Windows 10.
Personally I use Internet Explorer instead of Edge. I find it too slow. On a previous laptop, not Dell, I was using Firefox and it worked fine, until I took the  bait and installed Windows 10. Since then, Firefox crashes upon first run. I did not install it on the Inspiron because I didn't want to take a chance.

Answer:Kaspersky Internet Security and Windows Firewall disabled, Intel HD graphics stopped working and recovered, can't disable touchpad

Hi A6RO81, and welcome to the forum.
As I recently purchased a Dell laptop, maybe I can help you. As you discovered, all Dells come with a pre-installed AV. The most important thing to do, if you did not want McAfee, was to not activate it, and delete it via your control panel. For extra assurance, you can run the uninstall tool (mcpr) from McAfee, which is available here, to completely eliminate McAfee:us.mcafee.com/.../mcpr.asp
Computers do not like duelling AVs, which compete to eliminate threats. This degrades system performance. Kaspersky is a top-notch AV, but if you find it lacking, again you will want to run its uninstall tool, free to download from here:

When you completely uninstall all traces of McAfee and of Kaspersky, your Windows firewall and Windows Defender AV should be working. If not, let us know.
I can't answer all your questions. Suffice it to say that the native Windows 10 firewall, and the Windows Defender AV provide fairly good protection. You just want to be sure that all traces of other AVs have been deleted.
And yes, 8 GB of RAM should suffice for your purposes.

Hello. Long time no see. My mom has a Gateway mx-3230 laptop that she only wants to use a mouse on. The computer has had a fresh install of XP SP3, and I'm unable to disable the touchpad so she will only have mouse control of the computer.

I've gone into device manager and seen that the only things listed under mouse is the usb mouse that she wants to use, and an item for Microsoft PS2 device. The mouse can be disabled using the "usage" feature at the bottom of the screen. But when I switch to the PS2 listing, "usage" is ghosted out and I can't change that setting. So presently, both the mouse and the touchpad are functioning.

I'm not at her house right now, and can't run SIW etc. to find out the particular touchpad info. Until I can do that, does anyone have a suggestion for disabling only the touchpad? Thanks. Jim

Answer:Disable touchpad in XP

Laptops which don't automatically disable the trackpad when you plug a mouse in usually have a 'switch' in the form of the Fn key and one of the 'F' keys. Look for a key that has a representation of a mouse or a trackpad on it or even both. I've seen all three variants. And I can't tell you which 'F' key it will be on, this is one aspect of keyboards that is not standardised !

When you do find the relevant key, press and hold the 'Fn' key and press the relevant 'F' key at the same time, then let go. You should get some notification that the trackpad is disabled and it should stay that way until you press the same key combination to switch back at some future time.

Question: disable touchpad?

PLEASE can someone tell me in words of one syllable how to disable the touchpad on my Toshiba L450D without taking it apart and disconnecting it? Hello Ian Rigby. Welcome to the Forum.

Normally that is quite easy:

Right-click on Synaptics Pointing Device icon on the Taskbar > pointing device properties > device settings tab > disable synaptics touchpad > apply > ok

If you do not have the Synaptics icon available then search for Synaptics from the Start search box.

IT installed the thinkpad software that gives you al the options in mouse properties but there is no button to turn off the touch pad. closest i can come is "use trackpoint only" and even then, if you press down on the pad it clicks. i was able to uncheck most boxes so most of the incidental issues while typing go away but i still do rest my palms on there and i have issues. i'm convinced its some kind of driver issue but maybe not? driver is synaptics 18.0.7.103 under synaptics device properties under device manager the only thing is synaptics pointing device and no option to disable it even when IT was on as admin.

Question: Disable Touchpad

I'm looking to disable the touchpad from within windows. I can disable in BIOS but would rather do it from within windows. Most drivers have an option in device manager to disable but the touchpad doesn't. Presently, Microsoft has installed it's official Windows 95 driver with it's updated version number, date and digital signature. Another option would be Synaptics driver but I'm not really into downloading and installing 14 mb's just to disable the touchpad. On the other hand, if I could get just the synaptics driver without the extra bloat, it might would work. Any ideas or suggestions?

Anyone know how I can disable the touchpad ? It has never worked properly on this machine - too long list of problems to get into... I tried the function hot keys - that does not work. I reinstalled the Hot Key drivers Fn F8 still does not work to turn off trackpad I went into BIOS and the trackpad option does not even showup under Mouse/Pointing Devices. Lenovo tech support has no idea (they can't fgure out why the hot key does not work and the BIOS does not list...) Anyone???

Answer:How to Disable Touchpad

I would assume that you are using a Thinkpad Edge, as that is the forum you posted it in. If you are using a thinkpad edge, then you have Lenovo Ultranav. If these are true, then here is how you disable the trackpad: 1) Click the start button.2) Click "Control Panel"3) Click "Hardware and Sound"4) Under the top heading, which is "Devices and Printers" click on the link "Mouse".5) In the diolog box that opens, click the tab that says "UltraNav"6) There will be two sections, one for the TrackPoint and one for the TouchPad (Trackpad). Uncheck the box next to the words "Enable TouchPad". I hope this helps. Thanks,SonofNun

I have a new HP Pavilion 17-g101dx with a Logitech mouse installed.

My problem, shared by numerous people, is that I cannot keep the touchpad
disabled. On restart it comes back on.

The cure seems to be dowloading driver 19.0.19.1 from Synaptics's website.
I download it and unzip then run the exe file and it says it is installed but
when I go back to the Device Manager it does not list the correct driver
number. This is after I do the required restart.

I have even uninstalled the driver which does no good.

Any suggestions.

Answer:Cannot Disable Touchpad

Eureka! Thanks to Wonder_Woman on the HP Forum.
After all the downloading and uninstalling all it took was changing
a number in the registry. Sometimes the simplest soloution is the
best.

For anybody else that has this problem here is the link.

Question: Disable touchpad

I recently fixed my computer, and had some trouble with it.

I have fixed all these problems down to the last bit, no thanks to some, I'm even glad I didn't follow some of the bad advice... I need to disable my touchpad because the left mouse button doesn't work and the right button registers at random times, so I plugged in a usb mouse and everything is ho-hum except that because of the touchpad the right button goes sparatic sometimes... do I need to disable the driver? I think there should be another way...

I have been trying to disable my touchpad...I never use it.  I have uninstalled Synaptics device multiple times...it is currently not installed.  I went to settings and went to "mouse and touchpad" and under "further options" I used to have something that at least temporarily stopped it...now that setting isn't available.  I read somewhere that holding the touchpad in the upper left corner for a few seconds would disable it...nope, didn't work.  I have tried various things I have read on internet, and nothing works. I am now hating using this computer...HELP please!!!

Hi guys. Is there the ability to disable the touchpad on the W530? I don't see it as an option in the function keys. I am using a mouse and it's a bit annoying brushing my hand against it and having it mess something up. Thank you.

Answer:Disable Touchpad

Yes. You can disable it completely in BIOS (I've done that and also skipped installing the now unneccessary driver when I reinstalled Win7). Or you can go to the Control Panel -> Mouse, and disable the Touchpad there.

Question: Disable touchpad

Hi
Just got a new HP Pavilion Notebook. I didn't like using the touchpad, so I plugged in a mouse. Then, I went to the Control Panel and TRIED to disable the touchpad. The mouse works great, but the touchpad keeps enabling itself again. It really gets ugly when I'm using the mouse and stop to type something in and the weight of my hands causes the screen zoom to adjust and jump.
Nasty... Is there any way to completely disable the touchpad until I really want to use it? Thanks.

Answer:Disable touchpad

You can probably disable it, but need to know which service runs for it. Open a command window and type the following at the prompt: sc queryex > c:\services.txt

then attach the services.txt file in your c:\ folder here.

Hello, I had just gotten my computer today, and had finished installing things to the new computer when I noticed that the fn + f9 keyboard shortcut to disable my touchpad wasn't working. I went into my control panel, as well as device manager to try
and get to disabling it however within the mouse settings there is no mouse properties tab and within device manager I only have two options both of which do not solve my issue. Things will be very inconvenient if I am unable to disable the touchpad as I prefer
to use a mouse. How am I supposed to solve this?

What touchpad software do you have installed? In Synaptics or Alps, you should be able to click on the driver icon in the system tray or on mouse settings in control panel, then go to the device settings tab and disable the touchpad from there.

Hi

I have an Advent 7204 laptop running Vista Premium. It's one problem is the touchpad. Double tapping the touchpad is the same as clicking one of the mouse buttons which is infuriating as it happens frequently when I don't want it to whilst typing!!!

I'd like to disable this feature but cannot find any option for it (I can't even seem to disable the touchpad entirely and use a mouse instead?!?!). None of the Fn buttons seem to do it and there is nothing in my system tray.

Anyone ideas greatly appreciated...!

I finally figured out how to disable my touchpad. I tried everything I've read on these forums, but nothing worked. No matter how many times I double-clicked the little dot on the top-left corner of my touchpad, the light would not come on, and I could not disable the stupid touchpad. To fix this, I downloaded the newest version of the touchpad driver from HP.com for my laptop. After installing the driver, my computer rebooted, and then I was finally able to double-click the little dot on the top-left corner of my touchpad, and it was disabled!  So now the cursor no longer jumps around all over the page as I am typing (b/c my hand barely touches the touchpad).  YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I hope this helps anyone else going through this struggle. It took me several hours to figure this out today.  Amy

Question: Disable touchpad

Hi, I'm new here - glad to have found this forum!

I stumbled upon a post that explained how to do this, but I lost it and apparently there is no "search." I followed the instructions to disable it through Device Manager, found it, but there's no way to disable it that I can see. I have Home Premium.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Disable touchpad

Hi cattywampus and welcome to Vista Forums

I take it that you are referring to a laptop or a notebook. Check your user manual for details on how to enable/disable the touchpad. As you have not provided any details on your machine (manufacturer, model number), I cannot help you any further as the method used varies. If you reply with the necessary details, I should be able locate some instructions for you.

Incidentally, if you scroll to the very bottom of the page you wil find a section 'Similar Threads'. You might like to check these out to see if they are of any help.

....if a USB mouse is present?

My users have Dell Latitude D630s with Synaptics Touchpads. They run Windows 7 Pro x86, and I was wondering if there's a setting/option/app that will disable the touchpad if a USB mouse was connected to the system. Many moons ago, the touchpads would be disabled when a PS/2 mouse was connected, but I haven't come across that functionality with USB mice.

Answer:Disable Touchpad...

I'm assuming the option isn't being displayed under:

Control panel> Mouse > Device Settings tab > Check the "Disable internal pointing device when external USB device is attached"

It depends on what Synaptics driver software is installed for that option to appear though.

Question: Disable Touchpad??

Toshiba laptop running xp sp3. The cursor jumps to random places in any word type program; notepad, Word, email replies, etc. Very annoying. I am thinking that maybe my wife is touching the touch pad while she types. However, I can't find any way to disable the touch pad. Under Device manager, the only thing showing is the USB mouse. Same in Control panel, only the USB mouse is shown. No icon for the touch pad in the tray. Anyone have an idea?

Answer:Disable Touchpad??

Yup. She is most definitely hitting the touchpad while typing. And while it isn't a problem that the mouse moves around. It is that "Tap to Click" is enabled. I had to download some really old synaptic mouse driver, since the driver windows wanted to give me wouldn't let me disable it.

I take it you have a USB mouse plugged in.

Have you tried unplugging it and checking the Device Manager to see what it says?

I do not like the touch pad. When I had Windows 8.1, I simply disabled it. But Windows 10 has a mind of it's own. I go into settings for touch pad and put a check mark where it says "disable touch pad". But as soon as I restart, the touch is enabled. I go where I put the check mark and it's gone--Windows just un-checked it. There are a couple of places where I can disable it, but upon restarting it goes back to where it was. I even went in Device Manager and disabled it there, but the same thing happens.

I have a Sony Viao VGN-SZ61WN/C. I couldn't stand Vista, especially Windows Mail, so i have "downgraded" to XP Home. All that is fine and I have all the relevant drivers-- I think! BUT, when I was using Vista, I was able to use an external mouse and disable the touchpad. Now however, I can't find any way of disabling it, resulting in text jumping all over the place whenever I accidentally brush it. I have asked Sony tech support and they have no answer. There is no button on the keyboard.
I have been into Device Manager and tried just uninstalling each of the pointing devices shown there in turn, to no avail.
2 devices are shown:
PS/2 Compatible Mouse
HID-compliant Mouse

If I uninstall the driver of the PS/2 Compatible mouse, the external mouse stops working.
If I uninstall the HID-compatible mouse, the same thing happens—the external mouse stops working. There is nothing there about a touchpad.
Problem is, this Viao had a link in Vista to Sony for configuring it. It is no longer there in XP.
Is there ANYTHING I can do, as I hate touchpads and want to use a mouse but this is driving me crazy, even if I am REALLY careful!
Help please—nice techy people!

Hi DallasSteve and welcome to the community,

Should be able to.  That's how I have a U160 set.  Is there a touchpad icon in the taskbar?  Right click it and click properties. Then click device properties.  There should be a little box to check to disable touchpad when a mouse is plugged in.  Click apply then okay.

If there's not an icon in the taskbar, go into control panel and click mouse and follow the above.

Answer:how do i disable the touchpad windows8

Depending on the make/model of your hardware, and, the software/drivers currently installed, the steps will vary.
Some laptops, have a hardware button to enable/disable the touchpad.
Some laptops, use a key-combination (e.g. FN + F7).
Some laptops, you will need to open;
Control Panel -> Hardware & Sound
In the displayed window, in the section named; Device & Printers, should be an item named "Mouse".
There should be touchpad enable/disable settings in there for you.
(sorry, but the steps vary a lot, based on the hardware/drivers combination)
Your laptop may have some helper functions, described in the manufacturer manual/user guide.
[e.g. the steps are different, between my Toshiba laptop, my Lenovo laptop, and my Acer laptop]Don

Starting with Win 8.1, there is no Lenovo driver for the Elan touchpad. It's provided directly by the Win 8.1 OS.Now, in previous OS, I could deactivate easily the touchpad, by entering in Mouse applet from Control Panel. Now, this procedure isn't available. More than that, in PC settings>PC and devices there is a Mouse and touchpad option, but not sliders for On/Off as should be.So, how can we disable the touchpad? Screenshot

I've tried most everything (device manager, control panel mouse, touchpad software...), yet I still can't disable the touchpad on my new EliteBook 820. It's crazy sensitive, and makes typing a basic sentence nearly impossible unless I slow down to a crawl. Surely HP has a means for controlling this piece of hardware -- what is it?

Answer:How can I disable my EliteBook 820's touchpad

On the upper left corner of the touchpad there is a small rectangle. double tap it quickly to disable the touchpad. It will turn an amber color when the touchpad is disabled.

I just want to know if it's possible to disable the touchpad and is so how, please?

What I've tried (which hasn't worked):

1. Pressing Fn + F9.

2. Going to 'Mouse properties' and searching for an option to disable touchpad there.

Answer:How to disable touchpad on my Tecra M10-10H?

After reading your posting I must say that we don't know anything about your notebook.
Which OS do you use?
Does FN keys work or not in general?
Is touchpad driver installed or not?

In my opinion you should visit Toshiba download page on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp and install touchpad driver and Toshiba value added package. After doing this check please if FN+F9 works. If not you should be able to disable touchpad in mouse properties. after Synaptics driver installation new additional tab will be added ? ?Device settings? and there you will find option enable/disable.

Our organization recently invested in a large batch of 250 G4 notebooks. I'm wondering if there's a way to quickly enable/disable the touchpad, modify something in our group policy, or distribute a driver update or something to allow for this option. Due to the environment many of our staff are working in (frequently out in the community or even operating off of mobile hotspots in their parked vehicle), many users don't use a mouse, but would like the option to turn the touchpad off while typing to avoid misplacing the cursor. Naturally, they'll need the ability to easily turn the touchpad back on without the use of a mouse in this case. As a result, I don't see navigating to the mouse settings to disable the touchpad as being a viable option, as they wouldn't have the ability to turn it back on when they were done typing. I'm used to seeing a Fn + F key option to disable the touchpad, but this doesn't seem to be available on this model. Is there a solution that would result in functionality with that level of simplicity? If not, what other options are there?

Answer:How do I disable the touchpad on a Satellite Pro A60?

Hi Neil

It is very strange. All newest Toshiba units have this option. The FN button must be hold down while you press F9 button. Check please ?Mouse properties?. There you will find ?TOUCHPAD ON/OFF? tab.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1405 running Vista. I hate the "tap" feature on the touchpad, yet I can find nothing that permits me to turn it off.

Can someone please help me see the light? How do I disable this aggravating little tap feature?

Thanks, and peace.

Answer:How to disable tap feature on touchpad?

Never mind. Figured it out. Replaced the Microsoft driver with one from Dell, which provides the Disable Tapping feature.

I have a Lenovo G570 notebook that I love except for one little detail. I hate, loathe, detest, and just don't like touchpads and there is no way to permanently turn the stupid thing off on this machine. I can turn it off after booting by hitting FN/F6 but, of course, I never remember to do so until I mess up whatever I'm typing by dragging my thumb or hand over the idiot touch pad. I've tried the usual "solutions" without any luck (leastwise, not the good kind).

What would be nice if there was some kind of script that would run during boot up that would, essentially, "press" the FN/F6 combination. Can anyone help me with that?

Answer:Script to Disable Touchpad?

Disable it in the device manager.

Is there a way to disable the touch pad while using a plugged-in mouse? My previous Asus laptop did this automatically when it detected the mouse. Advice would be appreciated.

Answer:Disable the Touchpad while using a mouse?

What Lenovo model do you have and operating system installed?  Example Ideapad 100, Lenovo Z50..... Windows 8..... Windows 10.

If your laptop has the ability to disable the touchpad when a mouse is plugged in, that option will be found in the settings / properties for the touchpad.  I have a couple of older Lenovo laptops using Windows 7 and 8 where the touchpad software / driver will allow disabling.  Where as my newer Lenovo laptops with Windows 10 does not have that feature.  The disabling is really dependent on the software / drivers for your model.
