Lenovo ideapad u410 plugged in, not charging, battery depleted

Question: Lenovo ideapad u410 plugged in, not charging, battery depleted

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad u410, it is about 2 years old now, and I've been having charging problems. This started last year, where my laptop would be plugged in and down on the battery icon it would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." The battery would deplete completely, and when I try to charge it, the light would just blink. This eventually went away after about a month, I didn't do anything, and I could use my laptop again. However now it's back, at first I thought it was my charger, but I removed my battery and plugged it in and I can use my laptop without the battery. I tried to replace the battery, but it still did not charge. When I plug it in with a battery in the laptop, it will only blink a few times then stop entirely. Do I need to download any battery management drivers? I don't know what the problem is.

Preferred Solution: Lenovo ideapad u410 plugged in, not charging, battery depleted

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo ideapad u410 plugged in, not charging, battery depleted

I have my U410 Touch for 10 months now. It always charged to 100 % but starting a couple days ago it only charged up to 90% and stoppped. I called Technical support as I am still within warranty, they told me to perform the the battery gauge, but it did not work. Then they asked me to reinstall the battery driver and the energy management software but it is still not working not charging to 100%. They now suggest to me to do one key recovey to reset to the factory setting to see if it works. If not, they said I can send back the computer for service. I am not sure if I should do the one key recovery becaue I will loose all my files and etc. I am skeptical if this will work? Any suggestion? Should I just tell them I will send back the computer to Lenovo to fix the problem but then I will not have the computer for at least two weeks. ....

Hi, I had the problem where the battery didn't charge at all even if it was connected in the right way and the charger was plugged in. So I started to search internet for possible solutions. Those I found where to 1) disable alt uninstall ac and acpi adapter in Windows Device Manager. Restart computer.. Not charging problem is related to some Windows issue. 2) Choose the alternative "maximum battery life" in Lenovo Energy management.. Neither worked after several and time consuming tries... The problem here is Lenovos "smart" Energy management system that prevents the computer from charging the battery to "save it".. Solution: Uninstall Energy Management (Publisher: Lenovo) under Program and Features in Windows Control Panel and the problem is solved.. And don't reinstall this program again....

My lenovo s10 netbook, with windows 7 and XP isn't charging anymore. I thought it was because XP is no longer supported or something, but I upgraded to Windows 7 and it still doesn't work. There's an orange light on, and when I move the battery around it turns blinking blue, I thought that meant it was charging, but in Windows 7 it says no battery detected and it's not holding any charge. Any advice would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!!

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad S10 Battery Problem (plugged in, not charging) HELP!!!

hi john_i,

Try performing a system power drain,
Remove the Battery and AC charger,
Hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Reconnect the battery and AC and turn the system on, Check if the charging will continue.
If not try removing the AC and see if the the computer will shut off.
If yes then you might need to replace the battery.

Hi, My laptop is 7 months old and when it started having battery issues. The battery icon would sometimes show that it's not charging event though it was plugged in. Now, it's not charging, it has no power, and when I press the power button I don't even get three led flashes like I used to when it was dead and not charging. I really want to take it to a specialist but I have no warranty in NZ because the U410 model isn't sold here so I would greatly appreciate any help on solving this problem. Thank you Eva

I bought my laptop 7 months ago and it suddenly won't charge. Even when the battery is drained. I thought it might start charging after that from reading the complaints online, and it does, but the light flashes intermittently for a minute or two before dying out. When I turn my laptop on it only has 5 minutes and every time I plug it in to charge, the light either doesn't light up or it flashes for a short while. My mum bought it for me from Hong Kong and the original receipt is lost so I can't take it in to service in NZ even though it has warranty. I really want it fixed fast because I need it to study and exams are coming up right now. Thank you to any help!! Eva

Answer:Lenova Ideapad U410 Battery not Charging!

HiThere is a setting in lenovo energy management which limits the battery charge limt to 60% and there after stop charging tilll battery level falls down to around 55%. This is the battery protection mode(In some laptop it is optimize for battery life or similar). Just open energy management and go to battery settings by clicking the icon. So your battery might be fine.Regardd

I have an XPS 9550 6th Gen running Windows 10 (Just over 1 year, out of warranty).
The issue is when the charge plug is plugged in and hovering over the battery icon it says that battery is charging.  However the battery is not charging but discharging until the laptop switches off.  The only way for the battery to charge again is to deplete the battery until the laptop is unresponsive when the power button is pushed to switch lap top on.  Once there is no residual power in the battery it will start charging again to 100% after which the cycle repeats, discharge.
Things I have tried.
Latest Bios update - no change
Another A/C charger - worked ok for a few days
Replaced battery - no change
Bios settings - reset to default (info related to battery and A/C charge reports all good)
F12 - Dell diagnostics, reports all good
When Battery is disconnected the laptop works normally
The laptop charge socket seems tight and secure
I have searched the internet exhaustively but have not found this same issue reported.  The only feasible way I can use the laptop is to disconnect the battery.
Can anyone suggest anything?
I would also like to disable the battery instead of having to open it up to disconnect, is this possible?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks
Andrew

I have an IdeaPad 500.  The A/C charger is "plugged in" and the icon says it is "charging" but there is no charge to the battery, which is now at 53% (it was 55% yesterday).   I have gone to the forum and done what they suggest (e.g. turned off the Conservation Mode).  Unlike most questions on the forum, my system says "charging" rather than "not charging".  And because it is an IdeaPad, I cannot remove the battery (at least not without opening up the case).  I am a bit worried this is a hardware/battery failure -- but I hope this forum might give me a software fix

Thanks in advance

Hello, I have a 3 yr old Ideapad Z510(that came with Win8)which worked absolutely fine until recently. If I plug in the charger when the laptop is on, it abruptly turns off and would never boot again until I remove the charger. However, this is not how it behaves every time. There are some rare instances where I could still operate the machine with charger plugged in.  When turned off, battery is charging and also goes to full 100%. When turned on(battery mode) it does not drain rapidly - I could still get a fairly decent stand up time. So I am assuming the battery is good. I don't see any thermal issues either. Things I tried:-------------- > Tried with a different charger - no help.> Updated the firmware - no help.> Update the entire driver pack - no help.> Applied windows patches, reinstalled and also upgraded windows to Win 10 - no help.> Reseated the battery and associated cables - no help.  I am not sure if there is anything that I could do to at least diagonize the problem before I give it to the service station. Any pointers on this is much appreciated   Thanks much in advance.

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Hello!I write here with a problem that I have since the day before yesterday. When my Laptop is on and the charger is plugged in, the battery won't charge, giving the notification "plugged in, not charging". Laptop works like the charger wasn't plugged - energy drains from battery.I suppose that is a software problem, because when laptop is turned off or hibernated it charges normally.Formating didn't help at all.Microsoft support told me to recalibrate battery - didn't work.Lenovo support told me to try another charger in service - I will try if nothing else works.Maybe someone had the problem like that and solved it without going to service, which I want to keep as a last resort solution. Thanks in advance!

Hi AhmedMagdyy,Have checked in Lenovo Settings app if Conservation Mode is enabled. Conversation mode is under the battery icon of the app. If enabled, kindly disable the feature. Conservation mode helps extend the battery life of the tablet/laptop by limiting the max charge the battery can hold. Hope this helps.Cheers,

So I bought this laptop 3 days ago. It seems like it has a charging problem. It sometimes charges when I let the laptop in sleep mode or close the lid. I sometimes get a full charge but then, when I'm using it, it just stops charging for no reason. To "force charge" it, I discovered that if I first unplug the charger from the laptop itself, then disconnect the cable from the power brick, plug it back in the laptop and connect the brick back again, it seems to charge for around 4 more minutes. I tried updateing the BIOS with the support from the official Lenovo support site (this one) but it does not work. I heard about the removing the battery and pressing the power button but I can't remove the battery.  The power brick and charger are original and seem to work fine. Should I try buying another charger? Please resond to this as I'm desperate. Thanks much !

Hi Mina,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

1)  Shut down the computer.
2)  With the battery in (but AC adapter removed), attempt to turn on the computer by holding down the power button for 30 sec. This should not turn on the computer.
3)  Remove the battery.
4)  Again, attempt to turn on the computer (AC adapter not plugged in) by holding down the power button for 30 sec.  This should not turn on the computer either.
5)  Replace battery, plug in the AC adapter, and turn on the computer.  The battery should begin charging.

I hope the above information helps.

Hello, I noticed this afternoon that the battery indicator in the system tray was at less than full and the status message reads "95% - Plugged in, not charging." This was not the case previously, and I haven't changed any battery or system settings that would affect this. I've only owned the computer for about a month or two and I'm concerned that there may be a problem with the battery. I looked up this issue online and attempted to uninstall and reinstall the driver that affects battery control in System Settings, but there was no change to this behaviour. Is there a way to test if the battery is damaged? What other problems could I be having that would produce this effect?

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

 Can you try the following:
1. Turn off the computer but let the AC adapter remain plugged-in.
2. While the computer is off, let the battery charge for about an hour or two and observe the light indicators. When finished, turn on the computer check the battery status.

If the battery still stays at 4% and the battery notification is still "Plugged-in, charging" then I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you most likely need to get the battery replaced.

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S100c  Good day! I'm a complete novice at computer troubleshooting. So, please excuse me if I sound like an idiot.  I bought the laptop just 10 days ago (warranty of 1 year). It worked fine before but suddenly the battery won't charge. The icon indicates that it is 'plugged in, charging'. But even if i leave it with the charger plugged in, it won't seem to store the 'charge' and now I'm stuck at 6%.  This is not the first time this problem occurred. One time, I shut it down and plugged it into the charger and left it to charge for a couple of hours. When I opened it, it didn't seem to charge at all. So, I opted to charge it while it was open and it worked.  And, now I leave it open when I charge it but it doesn't seem to although it is indicated. Should I wait for a miracle to happen or do I get a new battery pack?Thank you in advance.

Answer:Ideapad S100c battery problems. 'Plugged in, charging' but does not store charge.

hi CynicalTurtle,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the battery and AC adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs
3. Insert the AC adapter and boot into WIndows
4. When the WIndows OS is loaded, slide the battery back in place and see if it takes a charge
5. If the battery still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset as discussed in this article.

If the battery starts charge, monitor the battery health by using Passmark's BatteryMon.
If the problem persist and the battery still doesn't charge, I recommend you contact lenovo for a replacement battery.

Hope this helps

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

I have tried the battery gauge reset and checked the energy manager and the conservation mode is NOT on! I cant unplug the laptop because it goes into sleep mode due of low battery and it doesn't charge. This is very frustrating as I cannot take my brand new laptop away from the plug point. Please Please Help! Prachi

Answer:Lenovo Energy Manager - plugged in / not charging message on IdeaPad Y50-70

Hi Prachiparekh,

Welcome to Lenovo forums.

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system plugged In not charging message in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.

This might be due to energy management  so pls do check that under the battery menu in LEM, IT IS SET TO 'MAXIMUM BATTERY LIFE' to enable charging to 100%, not Optimised battery health as this will allow your battery to have a longer lifespan.

Also try to reinstall the energy management driver and check for the issue.

Click here for the power management, if the operating system is windows 7.

Click here for the power management, if the operating system is windows 8.1.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Okay, so my keyboard dock works fine. I restarted it once (paperclip method) after dying on me, but afterwards nothing was really wrong with it. Now, the tablet's battery is acting funny. At first, I thought it was just my keyboard dock not charging my tablet, so I detatched the keyboard, and the tablet completely shut off. I plugged the AC adapter into the tablet, and it came back to life, but it would not charge at all. The keyboard dock would be at 100%, but the tablet itself would only be at 8%. I have installed the Lenovo Dependency Package thing and the firmware update, but it didn't change anything. Now, even though it says (plugged in, charging) on my tablet, it's not really charging. So, whenever I unplug the tablet or detatch the tablet from the keyboard dock, the system completely turns off because it's only at 8%. Please help me! Thank you!  EDIT: Okay, so I unplugged the AC adapter while the keyboard dock was on and then Battery #1, the tablet battery, drained down to 0%, and its status is now Plugged in, not charging, while Battery #2 is plugged in, charging. I also got a pop up notification saying there's an error in battery #1, see replacement options. I clicked it, but it was a dead browser link. Also, when I go to the Support app, it says under messages that my battery is not valid... but I don't know how that happened. I've only had my Helix for about 2 months now.

Welcome to the forum.   First, have you already updated to latest BIOS and installed this dock firmware update?

Also, could you check the battery health setting as per this tip?

hello,It was working fine before i didn't use my laptop 3 days , then when i power it on after 3 days it showing " 0% available (plugged in, not charging) " .   And when i remove the AC plug, laptop turns off . (no hibernating, no shutdown, just off)i have tried - Method A:Remove the AC and Battery from the laptopPress and hold the power button for 30 to 40 secondsReplace the battery and ACBoot the laptop up and check if the same message is still displayingIf same error still persist, try to uninstall Lenovo Energy Management, reboot then install the Energy Management software again. Method B:1.Open Lenovo Energy Management2.Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.3.Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.4.That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle. Method C:1.Open Lenovo Energy Management2.Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.3.Under Battery Health, choose "Optimize For Battery Runtime" instead of "Optimize for Battery Lifespan".Note: The latter option will extend the lifespan of battery by limiting the charging capacity to be between 0-80%. as mentioned in another thread in this forum but none of them worked.  The Battery Gauge Reset didn't start.i am using win7 , and this battery is 4 year old .please help me out of this problem.

Hi!My Yoga 500-15ISK Laptop seems to have a battery issue. For some time now, whenever I plug my laptop into the AC power, I get this message, e.g. "(% charge) available, (plugged in, charging)", however for some reason, the battery level actually stays the same even after a significant amount of time of being plugged in to the AC supply. Moreover, the battery icon initially shows the animated one which indicates charging is indeed in progress, then after a few moments, it will freeze on the estimated level. Before this, my laptop's battery usually charges relatively quickly. Also, I have not turned on the Conservation Mode so it must charged up beyond 50-60% especially if I leave it plugged in overnight. This issue is really bewildering me right now. Any comments or suggestions on how I can address this issue? Thanks!Other notes re my laptop:It's been around 10 months since I've bought it and I have encountered this issue only a few days ago.I have no other issues with it.

Hi,

I have a Lenovo Z50-70 running Windows 8.1. The laptop is relatively new, bought in Jan. 2015.

Some time ago, the original battery suddenly started to have a problem where it would say 45% available, plugged in, not charging. No matter what fixes I tried (after looking through a lot of articles, posts, comments, etc.), nothing made the battery start charging again. It always stays at 45%. Also the battery light/indicator on the front of the laptop is always blinking white.

So I got a new battery, put it in hoping that it would work and charge up to 100%, but the new battery is having exactly the same problem as the original old one! It will only charge up to 45%, then it says plugged in not charging. The battery light is again always blinking white.

What do I do? How can this be fixed? What's going on?

Appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

check the warranty is still active, as thats one route you could take with a relatively new laptop.

also, try uninstalling the energy management and restart the system and check for the issue. also try uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI from the device manager and restart the system and check for the issue. for more info on this action see this thread in the link:

Recently my T410 laptop has had issues with charging the battery, the battery is plugged in and not charging.I have attempted updating the firmware for the battery, it failes half way through as the battery cannot be not identified. The lenovo power mannager does not resolve the issue either as it cannot detect the battery. Any advice on diagnostics or resolutions would be greatly appreciated, as after contacting lenovo support, they simply told me to replace the battery. Which I am happy to do but only as a last resort.

The thinkpad hasn't been used for nearly a year and two months since i purchased it from my friend. Lenovo Power Manager recongnized the battery for a few seconds then says:  Could not detect battery, please reinsert battery or recharge the battery. I applied double sided tape to the thinkpad battery so it wouldn't wobble. Still the same problem. Battery was purchased 2014-06-04.It is an aftermarket battery.

Hello everyone, I hope everyone's doing fine.Anyways, I've been having battery troubles with my laptop which has the specs: Lenovo B560Core i3 370MBios - 39CN16WWRAM - 4GBWindows 7 - 32bit Now, the issue is that the original battery which came with the laptop is done with...I mean if I unplug the laptop, it takes just a couple of minutes and the battery drains out. I have been searching for the battery in the market and I did find some but now when I connect the "new" battery, I get "plugged in, not charging" when I hover over the "battery" icon in the tray.  I went through the details on the sticker of both the original battery as well as the new one and the only difference I found was that mine said "48000" where the other one says "44000"...Can that be the reason behind this problem? Also, I cannot find the battery with 48000 in the market or online. Can anybody please shed some light on this? I did try the method of turning off the laptop, removing the power cable and battery and pressing the power button for a couple of seconds. That didn't work either. Thanks,Abdullah

Answer:Lenovo B560 battery "plugged in, not charging"

Try to release charge, - turn off the computer, remove AC adaptor and battery. Press and hold power button for 15-30 seconds, and power on the machine again. Also you can try reinstal energy management driver.

Hi, i bought this Lenovo Yoga 13 machine 3 days ago, and now the battery is discharging and when i plug the power cord the battery icon shows me the "plugged in not charging" message. The problem began last night. I've read some forums, and tried changing the battery configuration to this or that, nothing works. I've also read that in 65% the battery will start to charge. It doesn't, i'm currently in 56% and discharging. The problem began after a Windows 8 update, so I'm suspecting the OS is the problem....  I dont know what will happen when the battery discharge completely.... but i will discharge it and tell here what happens... Help!!!

Hi iperich,

Thanks for posting in the Lenovo Community,

I?d like to advise you to try to turn on the machine using the Ac-Adapter only without the battery to make sure if the Ac-Adapter is charging and working fine,

If the charger is working fine let me ask you to try to uninstall the Lenovo energy management application and then try to refresh the system and then try to install the software back again and then  check the battery icon status,

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Hi there everyone! I know that many of us here using the new z and p series ideapad have encountered this issue and some are still wrecking their brains, calling customer hotlines, searching the internet and trying all sorts of ways. I specially made an account to share my experience and solution with you all through an in depth explanation. Sorry for some broken english cos im singaporean and it has become a habit PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL OF IT BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. and don't kpkb if it doesnt work because you didn't read it through. What i did when i realised i had this problem: 1. Check if the battery had a problem, but now the batteries are sealed inside the computer. Scratch that if u are too.2. Check the Power Brick, plug out and plug the adapter back in, change the wall socket you are plugged into.3. Restart the computer. I believe this is what the majority of you have done. Then u call customer hot line, send to service center, still cannot find out the problem or they claim battery spoil, then you have to wait for too **bleep** long b4 it gets repaired. NO YOU DON'T HAVE TO! Take these few steps to save yourself the time, money and whatever. Firstly go to this website: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ideapad-Z400-or-Z500-battery-will-not-cha... I shall elaborate on the steps since they do not. Re-calibrate the battery first and run your laptop on it. If the problem remains, try the solutions below. Find a spare charger and try to charge your laptop with it.If your problem still persists, then check for a BIOS update. CoolGuy

Hi, I have a Lenovo P580 that is almost 3 years old, and I recently bought a new battery from Amazon to replace the original battery that came with the laptop. However, after installing the new battery, I can't get it to charge with the AC adapter plugged in. The new battery had a 60% charge initially. I currently have the battery setting in "battery fully-charged mode." The battery indicator light is red and flashes quickly, regardless of whether the AC adapter is plugged in or not (and despite having 60% charge). In the bottom right-hand corner of the desktop taskbar, the battery is recognized as being "plugged in, not charging." Is there a way to get the battery to charge? Or should I return the battery and get a different one? I really don't think the battery is the problem, but who knows. Thanks.

Sounds like it may be either the charger or the charging port at fault here.  However, I have a couple of questions...1. Does the battery charge increase at all if you leave the machine turned off and plugged in, or does it still report 45%?2. Does it power on when only on battery power?3. Was the new battery a new, genuine Lenovo part? There seem to be a lot of people reporting similar issues with this model unfortunately.

Hi, I purchased an IdeaPad z710 not too long ago and I've been haveing some problems, mostly that I can't seem to get the battery to charge at all. The battery sits at 1% and a notification reads..."plugged in, not charging". I don't know whats wrong, and I've already checked to se if the battery is in visible good condition (it is). Any tips or suggestions would be appriciated.

Answer:Lenovo Z710 Battery Plugged in Not Charging Problem

hi rjw1234,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Turn off the computer, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs then plug-in the AC adapter and re-insert the battery.
3. While the computer is off, let the battery charge for about an hour or two and observe the light indicators. When finished, turn on the computer check.

- Link to picture

If the battery still stays at 1% and the battery notification is still "Plugged-in, not charging", I recommend you contact lenovo and report as you most likely need to get the battery replaced.

hi paranthaman,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try to charge the battery while the computer is off (eg. for 2hrs) then observe.

If the battery charge is still 0% after doing the above procedure then it's likely that the battery is showing signs of failure. In this case, I recommend you check if the battery still has a warranty and check with the reseller for a replacement battery.

I have a Lenovo Flex 3 1480 with Intel I7.  I was getting a message that says "plugged in charging" but the battery charge was staying at 60% and not increasing. Lenovo techs said the battery must be bad so I ordered and installed a new, Lenovo brand battery.  I get the same condition... placing the cursor over the battery symbol gives a status message of "40% available, plugged in, charging" but the battery charge never increases, even after shutting off the computer down and leaving it plugged in overnight. The laptop was a year old and therefore out of warranty last November, 2016. HELP!

Hi, Have a few observations and questions regarding the battery of x240. 1.Haven't really noticed before, but when we plug in the charger, should the charging info for both internal and external battery read "plugged in, charging"? 2. I've noticed that mine only has 1 (either internal or external) that reads "plugged in, charging" while the other isn't (plugged in, not charging) - I initially thought that once one is done charging, the other would activate and charge but it's apparently it doesn't. 3. Haven't really found out the issue, i.e. hardware or software. Sometimes it's the internal battery that charges, sometimes it's the other - do I have both defective batteries? Is it a software issue? Below are the things I've tested/tried 1. I've uninstalled the devices drivers in the device manager, restarted - still the same. 2. Install / re-installed the lenovo power manager driver - nada. 3. Tried charging the laptop while it is powered down - and both got fully charged!? Is anyone experiencing the same issue? appreciate the advise / help and thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo x240 battery observations and inquiries [plugged in not charging]

Hi Legapau,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with 2nd battery not charging on your ThinkPad X240.
Shutdown the system and remove AC power adapter & battery.

Connect only AC power adapter and switch ON the system.
Go ?Device Manager? uninstall ACPI adapter from that.
Shutdown the system and connect the Battery and AC adapter and switch ON the system.
If the issue still persists then run ThinkVantage system update utility so that it will update all the required drivers and application.

Hope this helps.

Hello All, I have a 3000 V100 laptop that worked regularly until 4 months ago, where it stopped charging the battery.  The battery indicator shows it is plugged in, and correctly states 0% available. When I disconnect the AC power it, stops working immediately. During this period I tried to upgrade my BIOS, and to look for other solutions, assuming it just ended its life, when a few days ago I came across the Lenovo support site.  saw the N100 battery thread (that solved by replacing batteries of computers manufactured on 02/2007), that showed EXACTLY THE SAME SYMPTOMS, and guess what - MY V100 was also manufactured on FEBRUARY 2007....  Here is the FRU: 92P1216, and the S/N has 92P1215  Again - I think it's exactly the N100 battery problem - same symptoms, same manufacturing date, and looks the same.  Can anyone from Lenovo help here? PS ? I opened the same thread and marked it as "solved" by mistake. So I reopened it here ? to be able to get help.  Best Regards,Eyal

Hi, At times, my battery would get stuck at 70-90% for a period of time while plugged in, then suddenly dropped to 0% when I removed the charger. Within minutes, it hibernates. When i plugged the charger in again, although onekey optimizer indicates the battery is charging, it get stuck at 1% for a period of time. It estimates a 12 hrs charging time.  However, when I get lucky, the battery randomly rises from 0% to 100% within seconds, and I was able to use the laptop for 2 hrs. Yet, when I plugged the charger in, the same problem occurs.  I have tried to uninstall ACPI-Compliant Control Method battery, but it doesn't solve the problem. I always put my battery in conversative mode, and tries to keep my setting low (brightness, etc) to perseve my battery. I only have this laptop for a bit more than a year and my warranty just expired for 2 months, which is really upsetting. This problem happens to the my last lenovo laptop that I owned for roughly a year (right after that warranty expired too), and it seems like lenovo product is very fragile and doesn't last more than a year.  afuY40

I just bought a manufacturer refurbished Lenovo Ideapad U430p. The description said the only problems were tiny scratches, they never mentioned the laptop would have charging problems. I have tried everything, from changing enenrgy management to shutting down the laptop and charging it that way, but I keep getting the same result, the slow blinking orange light on the side of my laptop, indicating that the laptop is charging but battery power is being discharged, making it really hard to actually charge the laptop. I plugged it in straight out of the box and it immediatley stopped charging at 5%. Thats it. Then I used it a little bit and I guess I did something because then it dropped to 4% and now I am completley hopeless because school is about to start up again and I'm not going to have a laptop. Please help! And I really don't want to have to send this laptop back so please try and think of somethings else! Also it is an internal battery. Thank you,Cavrae1 P.S. Everything says the laptop is charging. The battery meter on the bottom right hand cornor of the screen, and the energy management says charging so it's not the common charger plugged in not charging issue.

I just got my Lenovo ideapad Y700 everything was working fine until updating Lenovo settings and windows 10. The battery now only charges to 98% and continues to say charging. Tried to open up Lenovo settings to see if I could change the battery settings to fix the problem. Now the settings won't stay open it just closes 5-30 seconds after I open it. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling, still has the problem. Any thoughts?

Hi, I bought a laptop U410 last week. However, the battery does not work. When the AC power adapter is plugged in, it shows "plugged in, charging".  But the battery can not be charged any more. It is always showing "0% available" as shown in the following picture. The LED (battery indicator) is in fast blinking with amber color. The laptop works very well with AC power adapter. Without it, the laptop can not be turned on. I suppose that the AC power adapter works well. Does anyone meet the same situation? What is wrong with the mainboard or battery? Please give me some suggestion to deal with it. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I got the Lenovo ideapad 110 near a month ago, I liked it a lot, until many problems started happening and it ticked me off a lot. The main problem with this computer is the battery life. I looked up what the average battery life for this computer was, it said approximately 3 to 4 hours. And it is hard to believe that because at fully charged, the battery life says it is 2 hours, but runs out quicker than that. The charging speed, I was at 0% with this computer, and it said that to be at fully charged, it would have to take nearly 3 hours! What??? I researched online if there was any way to replace a more long-lasting battery or to see if there are some ways to save/improve the battery life. What I got were ways to save more battery, but none of it worked, they don't make a difference. Lowering the brightness, probably only saves 5 minutes of your battery, and that's the most I could really do (out of all the ways showed in the support page), since I never use bluetooth, etc. Really need some help, would really appreciate some better ways to saving more of the battery, or if there is a way to replace the battery in this computer with a bigger life. But I strongly dislike the problems with most Lenovo computers, thinking of returning/exchaniging it. Thanks for your time.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y580-20994BU battery not charging

You most probably have overdischarged your battery. If you discharge the battery to 0% and let it stay like that for some time (few hours? not sure) the battery protection circuit will shut down the battery and render it useless. Explanation: Li-Ion batteries as all modern commercial batteries are based on chemical reactions. When the charge drops to 0% in Li-Ion battery the voltage drops, and irreversible chemical changes occur inside the cells. If I remember correctly crystals are formed inside the cells. Charging a battery like that is dangerous, and that's why there is a protection circuit inside the batteries, which shut downs the whole battery even if just a single cell drops below specified voltage. Happened to me twice before. Last time was actually quite recently with Y580. You can try some diy tricks like freezing the battery, but it didn't work for me. In my case it happened because there was no critical battery level set in power settings. Why was it not set? No idea. There is 6 months warranty on battery I think, so you can try it.  Otherwise you have to buy a new one.

Hey! I recently bought an Ideapad Y510P from an American seller on eBay, despite myself being located in Australia.  My issue is that, my battery will not charge unless I insert the battery, while my laptop is booting up. So basically it won't charge if:I power on my laptop with the battery insertedIf I remove and reconnect the charger adapter while it's runningI'm not too sure why it is doing this, all I really know, is that is started after I ran a battery calibration using Lenovo Energy Management.  I've contacted Lenovo Australia, but they said that they can't assist me because the laptop was manufactured in the United States, so they keep directing me to the Lenovo US technical support.BUT I've called the technical support in the United States about 3 times now. Two of which resulted in the technical support officer ending the call abruptly. I also called Lenovo Indonesia, and I got hung up on again. I'm not a mean person at all, nor am I showing any impatience/anger. So I'm a little annoyed about that. The first guy who help me from the United States, told me to remove Lenovo Energy Management and he told me to also uninstall an ACPI battery in the Device manager. None of which actually helped But at least he tried to help me! I really want this fixed because I need my laptop to complete Uni coursework.  I'm also in love with it . I've recently bought a brand new lenovo Ideapad 510 15IKB MTM is 80SV001PIH. Since last few days I'm facing issue with battery. I plugged in my machine at a charge level of 96%. After half an hour I noticed that still the battery level is 96% . When I put the pointer on battery guage, it's showed that "Plugged in, not charging". In my laptop battery is not removable, so I can't try removing the battery and putting it back again. I've restarted my machine many times but still the situation is same.

Answer:U310 & U410 - Black one inch Bar on the right side of the screen on my Lenovo Ideapad U410 Laptop.

hi dharamc,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Have you tried checking this issue under the BIOS mode.
Power ON the computer and start hitting F2.

If the problem is visible under BIOS, then don't mind the driver as the problem might be the GPU or the LCD screen.
to isolate the issue further you can use an external monitor.

If the problem is not visible under an external monitor, then you have a problem with the GPU

Let us know your findings
Cheers!

I, too, have had the same issue that users in this thread are reporting. I have a U410 bought in the spring of 2014. There was a break at the hinge and the screen is separating from the lid. I've never dropped the computer, this issue arose one day after general, every day use. I've attached photos of the issue for others to reference.

Answer:Re: Lenovo Ideapad U410 and U410 Touch broken hing...

I am not having a very good repair experience. My exactly (to the date) 1 year Ideapad U410 hinge broke. Was not dropped or put pressure on - just poor workmanship. Sent to the 'authorized' repair centre in NOrth Bay Canada. Turn around time is 7 business days. All I get is a message - waiting for parts.  This is terrible when a large company like Lenovo can't get parts where needed.I am going through a very rough time as my business is affected

Hello Lenovo Forums,      It's really frustrating for me to be here and posting a problem exactly a week after I bought my laptop. So I got this thing last week and about 3 days ago it started hesitating to charge. I'm sure it was not a hardware issue because at startup it charges but after a while it stops.      I got into a conclusion that it was probably some kind of service that stops it from charging. So I uninstalled the Energy Management App but it didn't work so I just reinstalled it back. I also tried to uninstall the "Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" like what most people recommend but it just reinstalls and doesn't work at all. I tried disabling it but it removes the battery icon from the taskbar. I also tried removing and reinstalling the battery a couple of times which resulted into nothing.      But just today when I booted up the laptop the Lenovo Management Software shown a message saying that my battery is not genuine and they will hesitate to charge it.      I was like "W**? I just got this thing last week and touched nothing and now you're telling me my battery is not genuine?" So looked at the battery and it was LEGIT with all the legit lenovo branding and everything.      Can anybody help me fix this? Thank you

Answer:Shutdown when plugged/unplugged to battery charger - lenovo ideapad y510p

I had this problem. It is related to Lenovo Power Management, and the electricity used by your house. You have to unnistall the Lenovo Power Management, and install the last driver.Buy an UPS (Uninterruptible power supply). I believe that's the only solution.Since I bought my computer in US, when it came to my country there were a difference between electricity, which was causing that problem. I have an UPS for all my system, especially for Y510P, and it's really rare to happen

HelloI just got this new lenovo Ideapad 110 and its only 4days old. Plugged it in to charge the battery and started noticing the screen going bright and then dim intermitently. Upon closer look I noticed the battery charging connection icon turning off and on repeatedly every second was the cause of the screen flicker. What could be the problem??? Its a brand new laptop I'm not expecting to be having battery or charger issues. In essence the laptop is changing between charging and not charging rapidly.  I would appreciate any help on this.

I have actually had this problem among others with this model.  First off, I'll talk about the battery issue. I have read on other support pages that if I remove the battery and pop it back in, with a little wiggling, it should work. No luck there.  Another suggestion was to delete anything that looked like "Lenovo Battery Manager." Again, no luck.   Secondly, the laptop shuts off if the CPU is running at full for about an hour even if it's cool to the touch. It might be related to the battery issue, it might not.  Finally, the Optiarc BD-ROM drive keeps restarting until I open it and leave it open. The only other workaround would be to double click on the big drive button and waiting several minutes for it to finish and stop restarting.   Thanks for reading all of this.

Hi, I set my laptop to "Battery protection mode" which is supposed to limit charging to 60%. I noticed that once my laptop is at 60%, it switches to A/C for a few minutes, then it discharges by 1% and then charges again to 60%. This process repeats every few minutes. Is this supposed to happen? I'm worried that each time it discharges and charges again, I am wasting a charge cycle.  When I allow it to charge to 100% under "Battery Fully charged mode", it will switch to A/C when fully charged and does not discharge again so I don't think there's an issue with my battery.  Thanks for any help!

Answer:Battery Protection Mode - U410 Battery fluctuates around 60%, keeps charging and discharging.

It is fine for the laptop dont worry.

My new U410 is plugged in but the power and battery symbol on the desktop is showing '95% available (plugged in not charging )'. Is this normal or is there a problem ?

Answer:IdeaPad U410 - Charging Query

Depends on where you have your charging thresholds set. In order to preserve battery life, the system can be set that the battery doesnt constantly recharge, but will only charge once it falls below a certain level. I use my computer on wall power 99% of the time so I have my system set to only recharge when the battery falls below 20% charged. Check your battery settings and adjust if necessary.

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. This is my first time posting in any forum, so i hope i didnt leave anything out.)

Good day,I have reached the next problem: after I've returned back from a vacation, I have inserted AC adapter into my laptop and the orange battery indicator was not displayed. I have turned on my laptop and found, that the battery doesn't charge - there is "Plugged in and not charging" message near the battery indicator in the tray. I have tried to follow the steps from the http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ideapad-Z400-or-Z500-battery-will-not-cha... , but it didn't hepl - the program freezes on the first step "Now configuring the program..." http://take.ms/k0TBi Have also tried to delete/reinstall Energy Management - nothing helped. OS - Windows 8.1 x64.Power Management Version 8.0.2.14. I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hello all, I recently recieved my IdeaPad Y410p from the Lenovo repair centre and they changed my system board for a different issue, but now I have a new problem. I updated Windows to 8.1 and did all the critical updates and then tried to uninstall some of Lenovo's bloatware and now my laptop won't turn on or charge the battery. I tried to do a power drain (remove the battery and hold down the power button), but still no luck. The laptop won't turn on at all with the battery or the plug by itself.  I then waited a few hours and tried to turn on my laptop again and then this time it powered on for some reason! I quickly restored my system back to Windows 8 thinking there was a problem with an update or bloatware uninstallation and then all seemed well until  I powered down my laptop again, but then couldn't power it back on. I called Leneovo and they said it was impossible for it to be a hardware problem since they just repaired it and since I updated everything and then restored it back, which then it still had the same power issues means it most likely isn't software. The only other thing I could think of is there might be a problem with the power adapter, but I've had this laptop since July 2013 and the adapter was working perfectly fine and this problem only started once I received my laptop back from Lenovo after a "repair". Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated at this point. Thanks!

Hi there -  I wanted to add that I am having the same problem. I sent my Lenovo in for warranty repair (rear left hinge broke) - I got it back Friday May 16th and ever since then it won't stay on and sometimes won't turn on. I called Lenovo warranty support and (of course) they denied it was their problem. However, I complained enough that they're going to send me a new one. Of course, you have to be in-warranty for this to work. Just a suggestion Hope you get your straightened out!!!

My one month old Lenovo u410 won't turn on even with the charger plugged in. I misplaced my charger and couldn't charge my u410 which went into sleep mode as it reached its 5% battery level. After about 10 hours I found my charger and connected it, but it would not turn on. I know it's not the charger because it charges other laptops. When I press the power button with the charger connected, it flashes amber LED three times but does not power on.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo u410 won't turn on even when plugged in

Looks like I'm having the same issue. Contacted Costco concierge who couldnt do much more than transfer me over to the wrong Lenovo support line, then ended up with some Ideapad support that told me to : remove the battery from the device... I guess they don't know how their devices are put together... His solution was to send it in for repair... My solution: Bring the 4 days old piece of crap back to costco, get a refund and buy another brand.

Hi, I notice that my Lenovo U410 touch is stopping charging the battery when it reaches 59-60%. The message in the tray is that it is connected but not charging. If I go to Lenovo Energy Management > Battery Gauge Reset > Start It starts charging again, but it sticks at 99% and never finishes the process.I left the notebook one day turned on until draining the battery and connected the power again but it always stops at 59%.Please, what shoud I do to charge the batery to 100% again?I`ve recently updated to Windows 8.1. Thank you, Daniel

Answer:U410 Touch Battery Issue - Not charging

hi matiello,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try Opening Lenovo Energy Management check the battery TAB and make sure that it is on Maximum Battery Life.

If the Charging still stops at 59-60%, Try Uninstalling and resintalling the Lenovo Energy Management.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Answer:Battery stop charging at 45%, plugged in, not charging

Does the system correctly identify the AC adapter, or does it show "unknown"?  F2 at powerup to check.
Is the battery the original one that arrived with the system?
