I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So i just recivece my new u430, and overall i'm pretty happy. I have a few issues with the touchpad though. There's no way of deactivating the fact that it keeps scrolling when my fingers reach the bottom or top of the touchpad. This is annoying, as i can't see when it will start scrolling automatically, it just suddenly starts. Another thing is that when i start scrolling with two fingers, and then lift a finger to navigate the mouse instead, it keeps scrolling until i lift both fingers off the trackpad, and then i can start to navigate. This feels very unneccessary, and it didn't do this on my old Asus computer.  Is there a general workaround for the sloppy driver, or do i have to live with these "features"? Best regards,Andreas

Hello all, I've recently bought an Ideapad U430 Touch, and I love it.  I have one complaint: when I use two-finger scrolling, if I move my fingers to the top or bottom edge of the touchpad, the scrolling will continue automatically (even if my fingers are not moving).  This is not what I want. I have the most recent Synaptics drivers obtained from Lenovo's website.  I have looked under Synaptics settings for a way to disable this 'feature', but have come up empty (this is different than edge motion, which I have disabled).  Google hasn't been of much help, either.   Any ideas?  Also, side question: is it possible to customize the touchpad edge-swipe gestures?  I don't understand why they can't be changed from Synaptics settings. Thanks!

Hi I finally decided to upgrade my 4 year old Ideapad Y550 and I am quite happy with my U310 so far. One thing I would like to change though, I've gotten used to one-finger scrolling using my Y550 and I would like to have that back. Is there any way in the U310 to chage to one-finger scrolling from two-finger scrolling? Thanks!

Answer:Ideapad U310 Touch single finger scrolling

This is based on the Elan touchpad. Do you think the one finger scrolling is similar to the edge swipe? Maybe its not enable. Two or more finger scrolling is under multifinger configuration menu. But there is no scrolling option in One finger menu but only the edge swipe option.

I'm befuddled. Two finger scrolling in Windows 10 dialogs, applications and Internet Explorer/Edge all works perfectly. However, Chrome is far too sensitive and the page blazes past. I can't adjust the scroll speed in settings because that affects all other apps (in other words they'll become way too slow!) Just to make matters more confused I've also got a Logitech mouse and the scroll wheel works fine everywhere - and this means if I install an extension in Chrome to configure scroll speed to work with the touchpad I will have slowed it down to a painful rate using the scroll wheel. Any clues how to configure Chrome two finger scrolling correctly? Is this an issue with the trackpad or Chrome?

My 7840's touch pad "One Finger Scrolling" functionality has become inconsistent.  It had been working fine by using the 'DellTPad.exe' application and selecting (if memory serves) 'one finger gestures'.  That option is now gone however one finger scrolling still works for awhile, and then fails and the only option to scroll using two fingers. A reboot fixes it for awhile then it starts all over again.  This problem coincided with a recent round of updates, though the touch-pad driver was not one of those updates.
Any ideas out there?

Hey, I'm a new lenovo user. The trackpad on my SL410 is nice, but the two finger scrolling feature is unacceptable. Its unresponsive, or zips me to the top of the page when I'm trying to scroll down. I've fiddled with all the controls available in the control panel and its made a big difference. But its still nowhere as smooth as a Mac, and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't.  Any drivers or something I can install that would help? Thanks for your help! james

Hi All, Wondering if anyone else was having similar issues.  After closing the laptop (putting it to sleep), occasionally on return, audio won't work.  No sound will play.  I can't reproduce the issue, it seems to be intermittent. Anyone else having a similar issue or know of a solution?

My father ordered an Ideapad U430 Touch via Amazon.de on 24.10.2013 which was delivered on 21.11.2013. Generally he's very happy with it and likes to work with it. Unfortunately he discovered two technichal issues over the last few weeks: 1. Sometimes the touchpad and/or the spacebar and other close keys are chattering. 2. Under full load the fan is very, very noisy. It's not only the kind of noise which you would expect (because there's much heat ect), but it seems as if something is chattering. Another buyer (Daniel Wollscheid) complained about the same two issues in his review (http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00FBD4VKQ/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) on Amazon.de. Is there a possibility to fix these issues or must the product be sent back? All the best

So basically two finger scrolling is beautiful and smooth on internet explorer, but very laggy and poor in Chrome and Firefox. It is the only thing that kept me from using Chrome, but the lack of extensions on IE is getting to me. Anybody know a fix or workaround?

Answer:2015 XPS 13 - Two finger scrolling issues in chrome and firefox

So the SmoothScroll chrome extension helps a little, but I still notice some jumping now and again. I've read that it's the 200x scaling that causes the problem, and that the latest Windows updates solves the issue, but I have the latest updates and haven't noticed any difference. I'd try seeing if you can handle changing the scaling.Hopefully we'll get some drivers and patches soon

Hi all, I've been having some problems after updating my BIOS on my Ideapad U430 touch. After updating 7CCN34WW to 7CCN35WW, Windows 7 would not boot. It shows the usual 4 colors swirling to the center and then it stalls. Interestingly enough, at the top of the screen, white dotted lines appear (about 1 cm thick). These dotted lines alternate, turning off and on irregularely. I've waiting at least a half an hour, nothing happens. Now I figured out how to solve this, which is by changing the boot settings in the bios to Legacy instead of UEFI. After changing it back to UEFI everything works again. But every other day or so it still hangs during UEFI and I have to change the bios settings back and forth to get into Windows. Can anyone enlighten me on this issue? It would seem the bios update is faulty? What's going on? Can I downgrade the bios? In addition, the following topics are related but not quite the same as they don't describe the exact problem I have. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Bios-Update-flash-error-U430-Touch/m-p/1591... http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/P580-BIOS-update-Cant-start-up-computer/m-p... Thanks in advance,Cheers,Graham

Answer:Boot issues after bios update (U430 touch)

hi gannixon,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Yes it is possible that a UEFI / Secureboot check fails something in the  OS UEFI boot after the update.
The system does not support a backflash feature, Reflashing the BIOS might need to be done in Lenovo Service Depot,

If you don't have much data on the unit, I can suggest performing a one key Recovery while on a UEFI mode.
Downside will be Deletion of current files and documents and back up will be required.

Regards
Solid Cruver

This morning, I decided to make the jump to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, and I have to say, the design looks simpler to use, but this new OS software has done something with my touchpad. Originally, on my Windows 8.1, I was able to scroll through whatever web pages or folders in my computer with one finger using my touchpad. With this new update, initially, I thought it broke my touchpad completely, but the problem has been narrowed down to having to now use two fingers to scroll in the most awkward way as this touchpad doesn't seemed to be designed for two finger scrolling. Is there a way for me to change this back? Would I have to revert back to Windows 8.1 to get my one finger scrolling back?

The laptop I am using is a Gateway NE56R34u, and the touchpad is an ELAN. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

Answer:How to change from two-finger scrolling back to one-finger scrolling?

Would Gateway drivers for their touchpad be one area to explore ?

I was looking at a Logitech touchpad, and it appears their drivers are what controls the response/numbers of fingers/digits.

Hello, as the title states, I am having issues with my two finger scrolling with my touchpad. My computer is a new alienware 15, and I am currently running windows 8.1. I do have two finger scrolling enabled, and it works, it just acts weirdly and I would like help understanding what is going on.
This first and primary issue, is that while scrolling up or down a page, I will randomly jump way down the page or way up the page. I am not able to reproduce this issue consistently, so I haven't been able to properly measure it, it just occurs randomly while browsing. I believe it always jumps down while scrolling down and vise versa, but I'm not sure. And I believe the distance of the jump is about equal to page up or page down, but that might just be wishful thinking. I have no idea what is causing this, I have completely disabled tapping, so it shouldn't be zone tapping for page up and page down, but I don't know what else it could be.
The next thing isn't really an issue, but more something I'd like to understand the significance of. When I start the two finger scrolling gesture, a little box appears (seemingly in a random location) and shrinks away almost instantly. It seems to have nothing to do with where my mouse is, nor where my fingers are on the trackpad, so I really don't understand what it's communicating to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Issues with two finger scrolling on the alienware 15 synaptic touchpad running windows 8.1

I had the exact same problem, very annoying, I have Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, but the touchpad is Synaptics as well. So after a lot of searching on this issue, there was one possible solution: Remove the manufacturer driver, and install drivers from synaptics website. www.synaptics.com/.../drivers.php
If you cannot install the driver from synaptics website, (mine failed the first try), then you have to follow these steps:
1. After uninstalling the manufacturer synaptics driver, go to the lower right side of the screen, and click settings -- > power --> hold Shift key and press Restart.
2. A blue screen will appear with options. Choose Troubleshoot --> Advanced Options --> Startup Settings --> Click Restart.
3. After that, your computer restarts, shows u a numbered menu, choose number 7, which will turn off driver signatures.
4. When you are back in windows, download and install the driver from the synaptics website and install.

Hope it works, it worked for me.

I just upgraded my Yoga 2 Pro to windows 10 and my touchpad was acting crazy--for example, I could only get a window to scroll when it was out of focus.  I tried reinstalling my touchpad drivers, and it took about 5 attempts to get it working at a basic functionality.  However, this process caused an egregious change to basic scrolling behavior.  When I used to scroll with two fingers, I could stop scrolling by lifting one finger, and my mouse would return to being a cursor.  Now, when I lift one finger, it continues to scroll, and it will only stop scrolling once I lift the second finger.  So if I'm moving my cursor around, and I drop a finger down for just a brief moment, I won't stop scrolling until I completely remove my hand from the touchpad. I tried reinstalling the driver, I tried installing the Lenovo Windows 10 touchpad driver, (64-bit)

I just bought a Yoga 3 14" and I have an issue with the touchpad: when I use the two finger scrolling function, it doesn't stop scrolling unless I lift both fingers off the touchpad. All other notebooks I have used before stopped scrolling when I lifted just one finger, alowing me to resume controlling the pointer with just one finger. This is very annoying, and I would like to know how to change this behaviour.

Thanks

Bestbuy.com lists a new U430 Touch with 8 GB of RAM but a smaller SSD cache of 8 GB (instead of 16 GB) for $699. The old U430 can be had for $639. Do you think it's better to buy the old U430 and just upgrade the RAM to 8 GB myself (at a cost of about $80)? Or will the difference in the cache size be negligible in terms of performance (namely boot up time)? Also, does anyone know if the screen is the same?  The old U430 screen seems slightly washed out to me.  Thank you.

I recently updated/upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. The default mouse settings is to scroll using two fingers. I want to go back to using one finger to scroll on the right side of my mouse pad on my laptop. I have tried the settings for the mouse including the advanced settings. I clicked on device settings and then settings underneath that, which led me to a different window. When I clicked on the scrolling portion, it gave me pinch zoom and rotating.
All other forums have told me there should be a one finger scroll and two finger scroll tab under scrolling. I don't know if this is an option for 8.1, or if I am just not finding where I should be looking, but this is an issue for me.
Thank you!

Answer:How do I change my mouse settings from two touch scrolling to one touch scrolling?

Check your laptop manufacturers website for trackpad/touchpad drivers for Windows 10.
My Thinkpad in the Mouse Settings (advanced) has a section for the trackpad and I can set this so perhaps your drivers are not up to date for your device. I know a friend had to manually download those for his Dell to make that work like he wanted.

Hi there, Just purchased a U430 IdeaPad and have a couple of questions re the touch pad: 1) Is it normal for the touchpad to not feel real tight, i.e., when you tap arouond it lightly, not enough for a full click, it feels kind of lose and you can hear a tapping or clicking sound? 2} Does the touchpad use a two-finger tap, not two-finger click?  I.e., just tap with two-fingers but not actually pressing all the way down for a full click. The full two-finger click does work. Thanks. GRN

Answer:U430 IdeaPad Touchpad Two-Finger Tap

The answer to your question on the two finger tap is yes, it is supposed to work, but no, it is not working. I have submitted the same question myself, but see that you have gotten no response to yours, which is a little disheartening. Lenovo techs, are you listening?

I recently got the Ideapad S400 touch, and for the most part it works fine. However, the trackpad often becomes erratic, and the most annoying thing it does is randomly stop its scrolling feature (two fingers on the trackpad to scroll). Usually if I restart the computer, it works again, but I'd like to find a better solution. Any ideas?

Hello All - I just noticed that my multi-touch (not enhanced multi-touch) screen no longer responds to finger touch; just pen. It used to respond to both before i upgraded to Windows 7.I tried the Lenovo diagnostic check for the touch screen, and during the test, it only responded to the pen. What should I do? Is there a certain driver i'm missing or need to uninstall and then re-install?Thanks in advance.

Answer:Post Windows 7 Upgrade - Touch Panel Not Responding to Finger Touch (x200t)

Ok...I think i really screwed something up. As per a Lenovo support tech's advice, i installed the Windows 7 "Enhanced" Multi-touch Driver, even though i do not have the enhanced multi-touch screen, and this is what it says on Lenovo's site about this new driver: "*1: ThinkPad X200 Tablet models with the Multitouch are NOT supported." "*1: ThinkPad X200 Tablet models with the ENHANCED Multitouch ARE supported." So, i go ahead and install it. I notice that finger touch now works, but the pen setting are now all screwed up! The eraser no longer responds when i turn the pen around to erase. It actually INKS with the eraser as well! OneNote no longer automatically starts inking (or erasing) when i bring the pen (or eraser) into range. I have to manually click on the pen icon (or the eraser icon) on the tool bar to use these functionalities! *groan* In the Tablet PC Input Panel: no eraser functionality (it inks instead!!) and even the button on the pen (which previously had the right-click ability) only inks when pressed down! I think i made my situation worse...Please Help! Adam

I have ThinkPad X230 Tablet. It used to have non-functioning touch screen. I did something, and now the screen responds to pen input, but it doesn't work properly for finger touch. When I touch with finger, only thing it does is minimize or maximize window. When I change position of taskbar (with start menu and icons), it doesn't maximize/minimize.  I think this means that when I touch with finger, cursor clicks at bottom right corner of display, where there is button for maximize/minimize window

I had a problem with two-finger scroll (2FS) in large Word documents. 2FS would not work in the document pane when the file is large. It would continue to work in any of the other panes (e.g., Navigation and Styles).  2FS worked fine in any other program. I tried all of the drivers available from HP and none seemed to work. I reloaded Office and that didn't fix anything. Finally, I went to the Synaptics site and downloaded their base driver for Windows 10 (19.0.19.1). That driver works fine. Not only does the base driver work, it has more features than the drivers available throuh HP. I think that, in the process of defeaturing the driver, something got screwed up. Use the basic Synaptics driver. I have not seen any problems wit the 19.0.19.1 driver.

I know it's possible on other makes of laptop so why does lenovo disable the single finger scrolling options in the touchpad configuration ? I have seen this on various different modelsEssentially its just a customised version of the standard Elantech software, you can easily enable it with Acer machines using Elan touchpads for example or Hp  ones with a synaptics touchpad and even on Dell ones using a slight workaround so how come lenovo have the options removed ?I personally don't mind so much but my parents being older struggle to use 2 fingers, having the option to enable it for them would have been a big benefit. As it stands they may well be returning their laptop for an Hp oneIt just seems like a pointless customisation of a perfectly good driver, I could possibly understand it for windows 8.1 with the charms and edge swipe etc but all that has gone with windows 10 anyway so why not have a different version of the driver for use with windows 8.1 and let windows 7 or 10 users be able to use their touchpad in the way they prefer

I know about the weird swirly scrolling but I'd really love to have two finger scrolling on my PC without having to go blow a grand on a Mac.

I have a new T410 with UltraNav touch pad that does not always scroll and when it does its very choppy. - I have "Enabled Two-Finger scrolling" checked- Driver provider: Synaptics- Driver date: 4/22/2010- Driver version: 15.0.18.0 I am using windows 7 64bit. My wife has a macbook pro with two-finger scrolling that works flawlessly. Anyone else seen this problem or can point me in the right direction?

Answer:Two-Finger scrolling choppy at best

Put two fingers down on the touch pad then after a moment scroll down. You can't begin scrolling with two fingers right away. You must first "place" them on the touch pad, then drag them down. (This is the way my touch pad works.)

It's fast and does what I need it to do. But there's one thing missing: because I need to work with confidential information from time to time, I need to encrypt my harddisk. What options do I have with this laptop? Hope to hear from you. RegardsDouwe

Answer:Graphics u430 touch

Hi mgregory162,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I believe that it is not possible.
This will mean that you will have to replace the Motherboard,

The Motherboard does not have a Port for Adding additional or Discrete Graphics.
The NVIDIA GPU is Embedded in the Mainboard.
If you'll check the Maintenance Manual page 72
You'll see the Part list breakdown where the Motherboards are listed

The Parts with UMA at the end are those with the INTEL and the ones with DIS 2G are those with discrete graphics with 2GB Nvidia GPU.

Hi all, I am new to this forum and am quite frustrated at the moment. My ideapad u430 touch was functioning more or less perfectly. For some reason I decided it was time to see if there were drivers that needed updating. I looked into it and ended up updated the graphics card driver, the audio driver and an updated BIOS driver.  Since doing the driver updates, my computer has been running into the following issue. When my computer goes into sleep mode and I try to recover it... it spazzes out and goes into a blue screen and gives me the DPC WatchDog Violation error message. Then the computer goes and resets itself. Otherwise my ultrabook is working fine and dandy. I am just worried now I will have this error message forever and I dont want to do a complete system reboot or recovery as I obviously have documents and photos and all that. DOES ANYONE HAVE WAYS TO FIX THIS ISSUE??? Lenovo wants me to pay $100 to fix it because my warranty doesnt cover "software" issues. I am just pissed that I did these updates in the first place. I didn't think updating suggested driver updates from the Lenovo or INTEL websites would cause blue screen errors. Please Help! Thanks,Alex

I am actually just reposting this as I've noticed nobody responds a second time. My friend has a Lenovo Ideapad U430 Touch. It just recently shut down spontaneously and now when she presses the power button all that happens is the power light turns on and blinks, the screen doesn't even turn on. We tried unplugging the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds and pressing it a couple times after. We even tried removing and re-inserting the RAM card (carefully and correctly mind you), since a faulty RAM connection could cause problems with the screen turning on, only to no avail. It should also be noted that she just recently upgraded to Windows 10. Is there any way to get it to start up on our own. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It did not beap after we took the RAM out and nothing but the power light blinks afer we turn it on. Please help!

Hi, I have a U430 Touch that was upgraded to Windows 10. Recently, I was unable to turn it on even when the charger  was connected to it. I found that I could make it run if I removed the battery. Yesterday I got a new battery for it. It ran for a few hours with the battery installed and the charger connected, but eventually turned itself off again. While it was working, the charging status was "0% available, charging". I did a gauge reset on it, but that did not help. Lenovo's enery management software says the battery is good. Now when I try to turn it on with the battery installed, it runs for about ten seconds and turns itself off. I can't turn in on again unless I unplug the charger from the laptop and plug it back in, but it still only runs for about 10 seconds. Trying to boot from a USB drive produces the same results. I cannot upgrade the BIOS because it has to have at least 30% battery power before it will do so. Deleting the Microsoft ACPI device did not help with the charging problem. Even tried a different charger, but that didn't help either. I'm out of ideas about what to try next.  Thanks.

Hi Blackhawk,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

The original SSD for this laptop from Lenovo is:

FRU 16200316 Model Samsung MZ7TD256HAFV
So this model should work perfectly. But any other SSD with 2.5-inch and 7.0 mm height should also work.

The proper installation details is shown in the maintenance manual:

The fan of my IdealPad U430 Touch becomes every noisy after the computer works for a few hours. I've had it for over a year and the fan hasn't been cleaned, so I ran the Energy Manager Fan Cleaning Utility which took some dust off it but it didn't really make any difference when it comes to the noise.  I am welcoming any advice.Thanks.

Answer:U430 Touch Fan Noise

Hi BS5,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Open the bottom panel and use a compressed air can to clean up the fan. A thin layer of dust can cause the heat transfer to reduce greatly and cause the fan to go high speed to compensate for the higher temperature readings.

Please go through this HMM (hardware maintenance manual) for hardware reference.

If still the same issue try to update the BIOS and check for the issue.

Also, please ensure that you have the latest Power Manager installed.

I hope the above information helps.
Regards,
Shashi

Good evening all, I purchased a U430 Touch earlier in the week and I was looking for some advice/insight.  The notebook comes factory with 4GB DDR3L.  I'm a freelance web designer, and work as a desktop support technician.  The web designer aspect of my job requires a computer with some power so I was looking to upgrade to 8GB.  I have tried 2 1x8GB sticks from 2 different manufacturers and after installing, the computer fails to boot completely.  The backlight on the display lights up, the hard drive spins, but I get nothing but a black screen.  Now the first RAM that I installed was purchased with the computer in a time crunch and is NOT DDR3L, it's just regular voltage.  So after this failed, I purchased the 2nd stick of RAM which is from the Patriot Ultrabook line that is 1.35v and I have the same result. Putting in the 4GB stick, the computer functions just fine.  So far I've been thrilled with the speed of the Haswell, but I was really hoping to have 8GB in this.  I've serviced a couple of Yoga's but am fairly new to the IdeaPad line and haven't run across this with the Yoga.  Am I missing something?  Prior to purchasing this I had done research that shows it's capable of 8GB Max.  Thanks in advance!

I have seen one or two similar posts, but none quite like the problem I am experiencing, and none with a solution that works for me. Periodically, randomly, the 2 finger scrolling function on my y40 stops working. This used to occur maybe once a week, but recently it's been happening every day, sometimes more than once a day. I cannot determine any cause. Usually I am in google chrome when scrolling stops, but the scrolling stops functioning in all windows-- EXCEPT task manager, for some reason. If I open task manager, I can scroll within that window only, even while scrolling refuses to work in all other windows. Wen scrolling stops, I can still use 2 finger zoom, right-click-- I can do all of the other things I would do, just no scrolling (the one thing I use the most......)My synaptics driver is updated. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it. Checking and unchecking the 2 finger scroll functionality in synaptics properties does not help. What else can I possibly do to troubleshoot this problem? Right now, the only way I can re-enable 2 finger scrolling is to reboot my system, which is very, very annoying. Any suggestions would be welcome!

I recently got a new laptop with Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 8.1.

I absolutely love the two finger scroll feature. It's very convenient in web browsers and the start menu. However, it doesn't always work, and I can't find a trend for when it works. It simply works sometimes and not others.

Where can I configure the settings so that I always have two finger scroll?

Answer:Two finger scrolling doesn't always work

Thru playing around I found that 2 finger scroll won't work if one finger starts off of the edge of the pad. Make sure that both fingers plant on the pad itself when starting a scroll. I operate my pad with my left hand and I had a lot of trouble accidentally hitting the left edge when I first got win 8. I long ago disabled whatever the left edge swipe was. The same might be true for the right edge for right-handers.

Currently 2 finger scroll is reliable for me. I guess it could also be a driver issue with your particular pad.

I've had this issue from day 1 when I upgraded to Windows 10. I tried many versions of drivers downloaded and installed from Lenovo support, directly from Synaptics, and also using Windows Update which installed whatever it is that it installs as the driver package. All of them have the same issue -- when using two finger scrolling on the touchpad of my Thinkpad T430 on Windows 10, the cursor freezes for 2-5 seconds and does not respond to the touchpad usage.I am able to scroll without any issue of the kind using two fingers when on Windows 7 with a Synaptics/Lenovo driver, and also on Ubuntu and other Linux Live CDs (which use open source Synaptics driver built into X Windows system). I am suspecting a driver issue, which is buried so deep into Synaptics driver architecture that they are unwilling to do anything about it, with it possibly affecting a minor enough percentage of their users. What I have noticed is that the page fault counter for the SynTPEnh.exe process spikes through the roof when scrolling, at a rate of about a 1000 (!!!) page faults per second (while scrolling) and now sitting at half a million after an hour of desktop usage, fourth place among all processes after Firefox, Windows Defender and Windows Service Host. For a touchpad driver this should be a giant alarm bell ringing. I don't know if this is related to the issue, but it's not a good sign.Anyway, has anyone similar issues, and what can I do about it? I don't want to use the laptop with the default ... Read more

What's up everybody! I have a weird case of scrolling behavior in Chrome and Opera browsers. When I do the usual two-finger scrolling, the page "twitches" and "wiggles", sometimes you can see how it tries to increase the scale but then changes its mind - and weird squares around the place, where the cursor used to be, appear and disappear randomly. Almost like the page is not sure if I am scrolling, pinching or just moving the cursor. Worst part, quickly those squares go to the edge of the screen and scrolling simply stops, even the weird sporadic one. Firefox and IE scroll properly, with no apparent problems. Other Windows software scroll properly. The touchpad manufaturer is ALPS, the driver is the latest that tech support could give me. Deep in the driver options, there is an option called Zoom Perfect. When I disable it, scrolling in Chrome starts working as it should - but then two-finger scrolling in other places, like Windows Start Screen stops working at all. Anyone ha? problems like that before? Any known solutions? Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone I have a S440 (touch version) and some Problems with two finger scrolling on the touchpad.First, it isn't smooth, i.e.. If I move my fingers it only starts scrolling after a second or so, basically when I've already stopped (unless I move very slow). It then makes up for the lost time by scrolling very fast. The more serious problem (that makes it practically unusable) is that it randomly jumps back up, often to the top of the page/document, sometimes just a page or so. The problems are worst with firefox and acrobat, with IE and the Microsoft reader there's no response time problem but the jumping upwards still occurs. The problem is there with the preinstalled Windows 8 as well as my own Windows 8 Pro (with the original Lenovo drivers). Scrolling with the Trackpoint and an external mouse work fine, as well as scrolling via the touchscreen.  Does anyone have any suggestion if/how I can fix this?

Answer:Problem with two finger scrolling on s440

I had the problem of the page jumping to the very bottom/top on my S431. Try going to device manager and checking the driver version for the driver for the UltraNav pointing device. In my case, after rolling back the driver the problem went away. The version I am using now is 16.4.2.4, I believe the newer driver was something along the lines of 16.6.x.x The synaptics utility for setting up multi-finger gestures will revert to an older version and won't be as pretty anymore, but at least you'll be able to scroll like a normal human being  I hope this will help.

I've had this laptop for about a month and didnt have an issue until yesterday when my two finger scroll stopped working. I tried adjusting the screen resolution as some responses suggested to no avail. I have checked my setting and two finger scrolling is definitely turned on but started having no effect at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just bought  a Carbon X1 with windows 10. Everything works except for scrolling with one finger on trackpad as I always did on my E450. Called support and he installed new drivers but still no scrolling. Trackpad works for cursor movement and clicking. Called support back and fix is to return laptop for motherboard replacement. Seems extreme and last ime I sent in E450 for disk drive and motherboard replacement laptop became erratic. Rather not have even a trained technician opening up a brand new $1500 laptop. I have two questions:1) Should single finger scrolling work on my Carbon X12) Is there a setting for scrolling. I recall on my E450 running windows 10 that I was able to specify where I wanted scrolling to be active on the trackpad (Left edge, right edge and even width of active path.

Just received the XPS 13 9360 in the mail today. I am trying to figure out how to speed up the scrolling. I've been using a MacBook pro since 2011 and I am used to being able to scroll to the end of a page with one swipe. On this computer, I'll need wrist surgery after a month.
Everyone with other manufacturers seem to have ways of increasing the speed by opening up the software specific to the installed hardware, but Dell doesn't seem to have that. And the only scroll speed option that I can find in the mouse options is for a mouse, not a touchpad.
I really want this laptop to work. Please help me.

So I rebooted my Helix this evening, and when windows 8.1 started back up, it was behaving as if I had the screen in portrait orientation instead of landscape.  I rotated the computer 90 degrees and then back, and it straightened itself out, but since then, scrolling with the touchpad has gotten messed up.  To use 2 finger scrolling up and down, I have to move left and right.  Not sure how to fix this, any suggestions?

Still Microfiber for Glass Panels/Touch Screen.

Just wipe the screen gently not applying too much pressure and the smudges should come off.

Just got this laptop tonight and was wondering how I go about upgrading the RAM?  I can't seem to find any information online anywhere or on this forum..  I was wanting to try and get some more information before I go taking this thing apart...  is it as simple as removig the bottom metal cover off like the u410?  Or more complicated?  Also how many slots are there? CPU-Z tells me there are 4 RAM slots, I doubt that very much.  Crucial suggests adding one 8GB stiick, is there only one slot?  Thanks in advance!

Hello, I purchased my U430 Touch almost 2 years ago, and haven't had any problems until recently. Suddenly, my wifi keeps cutting out, and finding no connections, just for a moment, and then the connections come back. I've updated my network's drivers from intel's website, (since Lenovo's seems to stop somewhere around 2014,) and I'm having the problem a bit less often, but it still does occur. Does anyone have any suggestions/fixes for this issue? Thanks!

Hi,  In August I purchased a U430 Touch laptop for use in law school.  Within the last week, the audio stopped working on the computer altogether and I have no idea why.  I have tried checking the sound settings and I can't see anything amiss.  Earphones do not work on the laptop either.  I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me get this resolved.  Thank you,Jordan

Hi,This is my first post in this forum, but I just wanted to share my experience and possibly gain some insight as to why this was my experience. I was recently troubleshooting why my wifi connection speeds were so slow on my pc. I have a 60Mbps connection and I was running ~ 12 down and 20 up. I decided to replace N7260 the driver shipped with the system, with the most up to date version direct from Intel, and uninstall the PROset software. Now I'm getting speeds ~ 55 down / 60 up. I personally reccomend this action to anyone experiencing slow wifi speeds, but I'm also wondering... Lenovo, what gives? Why would you ship a driver that affects performance so badly?

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:U430 touch - N7260 driver

The problem is two fold:1. Intel providing subpar drivers2. Lenovo not keeping up with the driver updates Intel is making I for one, have gone the intel route on all drivers for this laptop and I've seen improvements on the drivers more often than not. Yes, I run into problems ocasionaly but quickly reverting back to the previous driver fixed the issue.Don't wait for Lenovo to update drivers (which are identical to intel ones at least for the IdeaPads) as they don't seem to care much about it even on their flagship laptops such as Yoga 2 Pro. They are all plagued with old intel drivers that cause tons of issues, issues that have been fixed months ago by Intel.

I have an Ideapad U430 Touch that is not capable of reliably connecting to our home wifi. When it does connect, it performs slowly. The wifi router is brand new, linksys ea6350. Three other laptops and several cell phones, ipads, and even my pool controller have no problems connecting to the secured wifi and staying there. The U430 will sometimes connect from wakeup, sometimes not. When it does not connect, the only way I've succeeded in re-connecting is to force the laptop to "forget this network" and then entering the password again. Many times I'll enter the password and get a "cannot connect to this network" error. Its not a mistyped password because that gives me a "password is incorrect error" instead (I tried it on purpose). I updated the U430's ethernet adapter driver and no change.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, My U430's screen recently stopped working, and I would like some advice on what to do to fix it. The laptop works fine otherwise, only the monitor doesn't work. Here's what I've tried so far and what I've found out:Powering the laptop off and on again - no changeConnecting the laptop to another monitor via HDMI - the laptop is fully functional, and the computer does not recognize the dead screen, only the other monitorI also noticed crackling sounds when I opened my laptop previously, and the hinge appears to be offset. This leads me to believe that the cable connecting the screen to the laptop got caught and/or cut by the hinge - especially with the rest of the laptop working properly. Is there a fix I can perform manually, or do I need to send the laptop in for service? EDIT: This happened today (13 February) during normal use of the laptop (sitting on a desk) after 5-10 minutes of normal use. The screen went black without any warning, and this was the first indication of any issues with the screen - it had worked perfectly until this point.

Hi Folks, have recently purchased a u430 touch which I'm very happy with but want to run it with 2 external monitors. Any suggestions? Both the monitors I have support HDMI and VGA. Will and HDMI splitter do the trick? Thanks in advance. M

Answer:U430 Touch with 2 external Monitors

Hi Markhreilly,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are looking to connect 2 monitors to your Lenovo U430 laptop.

As per the specification of this model, it has only one HDMI out port as there is no VGA port. If the HDMI splitter has a VGA port then you can connect one to HDMI monitor and other to VGA monitor.

Click here for the specification of the model.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Hello, are there any information at which temperatures the U430 touch will slow down the cpu and gpu? Best regard

Answer:U430 touch thermal protection

Normally, CPU throttles at 85 Celsius and GPU at 90 Celsius. Run Prime95 to test the CPU throttling and FurMark for GPU throttling to determine the actual temperatures for at least 20 minutes. You don't have to run them at the same time.

I've tried searching everywhere and can only find references to people replacing the entire display assembly for the U430 Touch series laptop.  These resources I found show how to replace the whole assembly, at the hinges it seems.https://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/watch?param=TGVuZyw1&id=12316https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/docs/um015367#page=71My problem is that after the laptop spent a few hours outside a fly somehow found its way inside of the screen assembly and is now stuck between the outer glass panel and the display. I would prefer not having to buy a replacement display unit but I will if I have to. I'm just confused as to what part I should buy, because the replacement LCD units I've seen are not the entire assembly unit, just the display itself.  I'm assuming that does mean I can disassemble the display to clean it, but I can find no information about that process. Advice and information is greatly appreciated!

Answer:U430 Touch - Display disassembly possible?

Is it okay if I bump this? Still haven't figured out if I can take apart the display unit.I'm also still not certain of where I should buy a replacement if it comes to that, or more specifically what part to get.

I wiped my hard disk completely. Stupid, I know.  I would need if another owner of U430Touch might make me the favour of making an Iso from the recovery partition and upload it somewhere (Mega, others). I tried to enter on Lenovo web for a recovery DVD, but the site always appears like empty, no content.I do think, the best, quickest option now is I get it directly from another user. I know, this may be some work, but I would be glad if you could help me on this issue.

Hi Guys, I am thinking about buying the Lenovo U430 touch with i7 processor and 4GB of RAM. I was at BestBuy today and I was told that it is not possible to upgrade the memory on U430. At that point I decided to call Lenovo and got the same response from them. I was told that the memory is right below the keyboard and not on the bottom of the laptop and is very hard to get to. Just so I'm clear, I'm talking about the following laptop: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-ideapad-u430-touch-59399722-laptop-ideatab-miix-tablet-package/99... I've been reading other forums and people are successfully upgrading the memory on their U430. When I told this to the BestBuy sales person he told me that other people are upgrading different model of U430 and not the one that's sold in their store.  Could someone please confirm for me that I can indeed upgrade the memory on this model and if so how hard is it? I tried but couldn't find any videos that would show me the process. Is it really underneath the keyboard or can I just open up the back of the laptop and swap it out from there? Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Answer:Memory Upgrade for U430 Touch (i7)

I've just had a look at the system's Hardwarre Maintenance Maunual and the Memory is definitely replaceable although it only has one slot.  The bottom cover and battery need to be removed in order to access the memory slot, instructions can be found on how to do this in the manual.

Or, you can have a look at the U330 Touch videos which is pretty much the same;

I got the Lenovo U430 Touch in late August and have noticed that the screen hinge wasn't very sturdy but it was still working fine. But today the hinge is broken and I can't close the screen properly without adjusting it. I didn't drop it or damage it and I looked it up and saw that other people were having similar issues and saying it was a production failure. Is there anyway I can get a replacement or do I have to send it in for repairs? I'm in college and I'll be needing it for a couple more weeks so I can't send it in for repairs yet. And is the $99 fee not covered by the warranty? I called Lenovo support and they said they can't look at my laptop until I pay the fee. I feel like the quality of Lenovo has declined recently. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:U430 Touch Screen Hinge

I'm in the same situation as you.  I bought a U430 Touch in August and today the hinge on the left side broke when I closed it.  It's absurd that a hinge would break under normal use and not be covered by the warranty.  As far as I can tell I am going to have to send it in, although Best Buy (where I bought it) was more helpful than Lenovo.  I think Best Buy will pay the shipping and the $99 fee for me.  Since I need the computer for work I am going to wait to send it in.
