Lenovo U41-70 - Fails to Wake from Sleep Mode after Windows 10 Update

Question: Lenovo U41-70 - Fails to Wake from Sleep Mode after Windows 10 Update

Good Day, My Lenovo U41-70 laptop fails to wake up from sleep mode after I lift open the screen lid.The power button does light up and I can hear the system running but the screen is not lighting up nor is it showing anything at all. I always have to end up pressing the Power button for a longer time to force-restart the system. This problem seemed to happen after I updated the system to Windows 10. I would appreciate any advice from Leveno or users of Lenovo who have previously encountered & have the solution(s) to the same problem. Thank you in advance. Regards,Jersine

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

just bought a new Portege M800 running Vista.

When the system goes into sleepmode or hibernation, there isn't any posisbility to wake the system up. I have to remove the battery to start up again.

Downloaded and installed the latest BIOS, did all Vista updates. Also checked the BIOS, wake on LAN and wake on keyboard are enabled
Anyone else with this problem?

Meanwhile, I disabled hiernation and sleepmode in Vista, but this shouldn't be the way to do it.

Any advice much appreciated

Answer:Portege M800 - Sleep mode and wake up fails

I?m not a Portege M800 owner but normally I would suggest that you should try to update the BIOS and install all Windows updates but you have already dont it.

What you can do now? If you have installed your own Windows version try it with ?factory settings?. Maybe it has something to do with the software or so? I?m not sure.

If it doesn?t work I think you will need professional help from an authorized service provider. The technicians can check your notebook and exchange faulty hardware parts if it?s necessary.

I usually lower the laptop lid when i want to put it into sleep mode; after the windows 10 update, this stopped working. I tried putting it into sleep mode from the start menue. This causes the screen to become black, but power to remain on ( I can see this from a steady light from the power button whereas sleep would have a flashing power button). The laptop's fan also increases in speed. When I try to wake the laptop, nothing happenes; I have tried to use ctrl+alt+delete, however this also does not work. I am ususally forced to resort to a manual shut down via holding the power button for a few second and restarting the laptop. I have tried updating the display adapters, restarted the laptop, and still no result. Does anyone know why this is happenning and how I can fix it?

Answer:Laptop doesn't wake after sleep mode after Windows 10 update

I was having the Exact Same Issue. The reason I decided to go back to windows 8 was because since upgrading to Windows 10, when my computer goes into sleep mode, I cannot wake it up. I have to press and hold the power button to shut it done and restart. Even if I close my laptop, and reopen the lid, it wont start back up and I have to press and hold the power button and shut it down and restart.  After trying to restore my HP Envy Laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 8, it got stuck in a Repair PC Loop and I could not even access the desktop, I tried the restore option to an earlier date and that failed and all the repair options also failed. The last option I had was to do a full PC Refresh, and that one worked. It took about an hour but no data was lost, and only a few of my downloaded apps were removed. An html url was left on the desktop that showed a list of all the apps that were removed. So all I did was download those back and now im back up and running Windows 8.

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

I have tried reseating the ram, power on with ac adapter and also holding on the power button for a while but still no sign of waking up. The screen is perfectly Ok. The only problem is that the heat sinks gets hot than normal. Please kindly provide any fix or solution to this. Thanks

Hello all, I bought my lenovo Edge 2-1580 in December, but recently, the display won't turn on after I wake it up from sleep mode. The rest of the notebook still turns on and the power button is lit, but the screen will stay black even if I move the mouse or press any keys. I have to do a manual shutdown and then turn it on again, which works but then the problem occurs again when it goes to sleep mode. I've updated the drivers and disabled the notebook from going to sleep, but if I manually put it into sleep mode the problem continues. I've seen this as a common issue regarding Windows 10 as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:Lenovo Edge 2-1580 won't wake up after sleep mode

I just resolved this issue recently with my Flex 3 1580, so hopefully my solution works for you.  First, update the video/graphics driver (intel or nvidia) from the Drivers & Software page on  Test sleep mode again.  If the screen is still not turning back on, then update your BIOS.  Back on the Drivers & Software page, look for the latest BIOS update and run it.  In both cases, but especially for the BIOS update, make sure your laptop is plugged in.

When I put my computer in sleep mode, it won't 'wake up'. I have to manually turn off the computer and then start it up again. This has happened twice. I'm not putting it into sleep mode until I find out what's wrong and that's exasperating as I normally leave my computer on all day so I can periodically play my games.

Lenovo, what is this? This never happened on my Asus computer so why is it happening on my 'premium' mobile workstation? Is there a fix that is being prepared for this, or is this falling on deaf ears? When the computer goes into a hibernating/sleep mode, it doesn't fully awake from sleep mode. The monitor is left in a black screen state, while other components of the computer are in a functioning state. In order to rectify the problem, a physical shutdown is required (and then physically booting the computer up again). Is there a planned fix for this? This device is only 3 days old. I can easily return it if this persists and this falls on deaf ears.

Hi folks. I'm having a little weird problem. This is a new system and you can see the specs in my sig. Everything is going well, and there are no problems whatsoever, except for a little weird one. Whenever the pc goes to sleep, it will not come back to life normally. I'll just have to restart it. This is what happens exactly:

Note: It doesn't happen if the PC just went to sleep, i.e. it will wake up if for example it went for sleep like a 5 seconds ago.

I come after a long day at work, and the PC will be sleeping. I'll move the mouse and the screen will come back up but only the mouse is responsive. I can only move the mouse cursor....That's all. If I press Ctrl Alt Del to enter task manager, it will bring me that page where I can choose task manager, log off, switch user...etc. And that will be it. I will not be able to do anything after that. The whole PC will freeze(after I click on task manager for example) and i will no longer be able to even move the mouse or hit Ctrl Alt Del combination to get into task manager.

I thought this might be because of my overclocking but it happened even at stock settings so it is not overclocking related. The only thing I can do is to fully disable sleep mode in both windows and BIOS(I think) to overcome this. This is just a workaround and not a solution.

Anybody have seen this before in windows 7 ? Suggestions? Comments?

Answer:Windows 7 fails to wake up from sleep

1: test your hdd with hd tune or hd sentinel to see it there are any communication or sector problems.
2: disable all background programs and see if the problem continues. if not start adding stuff back unit it happens again.
3: update your bios.
4: my preference, stop using sleep mode and turn it off. it can't take that long to boot?!

stand by/sleep mode has always been a PITA!!

Hi there,

I am running a Windows 7 64-bit setup, and I'm trying to get a timer to wake Windows from sleep or hibernation.

I've got it to work flawlessly on my desktop, however on my laptop, a Dell D630, I can't seem to get it to work. I've created a task triggering on a specific time and running the operation '/c "exit"', which should just start a command prompt and close it again. I've set it to "run with highest privileges" and "wake the computer to run this task". However, it just doesn't boot as scheduled.

The history of the scheduler says nothing at the moment that the trigger is set to go off, but a minut later (probably when I manually boot) I get a "Task scheduler "{....}" instance of the task "\Wakeup" due to a time trigger condition."

What can I do to fix this?

Thank you.

Answer:Scheduler fails while trying to wake Windows from sleep/hibernation.

Hello and welcome to Seven Forums.

Some things you can try for testing:

Turn off "run with highest privileges" - you shouldn't need it for this task

Try different setting combinations for:
"Run whether user is logged on or not" / "Run only when user is logged on"
"Start the task only if the computer is an AC power"
"Stop if the computer switches to battery power"

Compare each page in the Task settings between the Desktop and Laptop.
See if you can find some different setting(s) that might cause this.

If you logon with a Standard account when the computer sleeps, try using an Admin account.

Hope this helps,

I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 and I am having an issue where my computer goes into sleep mode, fails to wake from sleep, strangely resumes its state once I do a cold restart, and then after restarting again, refuses to boot.

Here is what's happening step-by-step:
Computer goes to sleep based on the time set in the Balance Power options scheme. Fine. Often, computer wakes up perfectly fine from moving the mouse or pressing a key. Fine. Very occasionally however, upon waking up the computer, the lights, keyboard lights, fans and everything else except for the display comes on. I am forced to do a cold shutdown by pressing the reset button. Upon booting up, Windows displays "Restarting Windows" rather than "Starting Windows" and resumes its state when it went to sleep. Strange but OK. Everything seems to work normally. The problems come in when I then do a shutdown or restart after it has resumed from the cold shutdown. The computer shuts down perfectly fine but during the next boot, freezes right during the animation of the windows logo and immediately restarts the computer and launches into the DOS-looking prompt asking whether I want to do a Startup Repair because the computer failed to boot.

I have tried Startup Repair from HD and from the Windows disc and neither have done anything. I am usually forced to just reformat everything and start anew. This problem recently started occurring after I installed an Intel X-25m 120GB ssd and put th... Read more

Answer:Windows fails to wake from sleep, then corrupts boot

I just recently got hit with a similiar problem, it unfortunately resulted in a corrupted BIOS that is unrepairable, it ends up locked in a low power state. There is no one single reason why Windows fails to wake up, and it's kind of a common problem. From the research I've put into it, hardware and the version of Windows does not matter. You'll either suffer from it, or you won't. My recommendation would be to disable both your display and PC sleep settings, and stick to manually shutting down and a screensaver to completely avoid it before any possible hardware damage is inflicted, and until there is more information available on it. The CPU, mobo and PSU are the most likely to become damaged.

If you still wish to use Sleep, make sure all your drivers are up to date, along with Windows, might make a small difference.

If you have another system available to you, or are able to borrow a mates, go ahead and use it to test your hardware for faults incase your situation is hardware based, and not failed coding on Microsoft's part. Also on that note, try removing your SSD for a week or two (or however long it usually takes before your system decides to sleep in) and see if it solves it, and post back with results.

I would still keep an eye on here, no less, incase a solution comes to light. Go ahead and do some Google searches on the issue, the plethora of possible fixes people have tried may work for you.

If possible, can you recall anything else you have ... Read more

I'm using a Bluetooth keyboard and Bluetooth mouse when I put it to sleep I can't wake up unless I press my start botton I should be able to wake up either touching the keyboard or moving the mouse

Answer:I can't wake up windows 10 after sleep mode

Welcome to Windows Central.
There are mixed findings/opinions and suggestions on this matter since the issue could be a result of a mixture of different issues, such as hardware settings, drivers, software settings and configurations, etc. Some of the solutions worked for others while not working for others. Some of the ideas discussed are:
1. If you let your PC sleep using a hardware button, then that same hardware button should be able to wake the PC up.
2. If you've allowed your PC to wake up through USB in the BIOS, then put your PC to sleep and then unplugged any USB device attached to it while it was sleeping, then that PC won't wake up unless the hardware power button is pressed. This could also be applicable to Bluetooth devices, since Bluetooth may be temporarily disconnected when the device goes to sleep.
3. If your PC had a custom manufacturer-specific software (e.g. Samsung Control Center) that allows the laptop (what device are you using, by the way?) to wake up when the lid is opened, then this feature was completely removed in Windows 10 brought about by the uninstallation of that software. You would need to re-install that software, run it in compatibility mode for a previous version of Windows and then re-enable the said feature.
Should you wish to provide us with more details or ask further questions, please don't hesitate to create a Windows Central account and respond to this thread.

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

It ba... Read more

Answer:Windows 8.1 wont wake up from sleep mode!!!

Maybe it's just really sleepy? *hears drum being hit in background*

sorry...erm..yeah was too tempting.

To my knowledge there is no real clear reason as to why this happens. You would think in so many OS systems with the wake/sleep function that they would had perfect it by now huh? You may get some people suggestion checking your drivers, energy/wattage issue/etc. I personally don't believe any of that though myself. If it can operate while you are on it just fine but you turn it off and it won't come back on it sounds more like an OS issue than anything else.

I used to have the same issue with an old old Acer Aspire 5720z. I never found a real solution to it either.I truly think the only "cheaphax" here would be for you to just disable sleep mode.

You could see if this helps you any but I highly doubt it will.

I have all new video drivers, I have a feeling it may be my keyboard because sometimes the keyboard doesn't shut down when the pc is put to sleep. It still has all its lights on. It is a Merc steel series gaming keyboard,

The only other weird errors I get in my event viewer are these, and they have to do with windows search.

Hi all,

My Toshiba C70-B is running under windows 10 and I have a problem several times (not always, which is really weird) I put my PC in sleep mode.
Sometimes (frequently though), my PC doesn't react when I am trying to wake up : the screen remains black and pressing num lock doesn't induce any reaction of the system. I have already updated my BIOS to the latest version and updated all of the relevant drivers for windows 10 from here (system driver, HW Setup, Display utility, Audio enhancement) and nothing changed....

Furthermore, I first of all accepted windows proposal to update the "X64 ACPI-Compliant Value Added Logical General Purpose Device" but the situation turned out to be worse with this setup (never emerging from sleep mode) so I turned back this driver to its latest version...

Would anyone have an idea on how to fix this issue (without making a full reinstallation of the system...) ?

Thanks in advance and regards,

Windows 10 maintains your basic system drivers. If you install a version not approved by Uncle MS it will be quickly replaced.
If you wish to keep your driver and stop MS changing it, you have to take special action.

Hi everyone!

I've been having a problem with Windows 7 recently on my new computer that I just got a couple weeks ago. The problem is that my computer will have a blue screen error when waking from sleep mode. I don't see the blue screen at all, instead, when waking from sleep mode, I see the BIOS screen and then it goes through the typical startup process as if the computer had been powered OFF instead of put into sleep mode (however, I know it was properly in sleep mode, as the power light on my tower flashes continually rather than shutting off during this mode). I get the message that Windows did not shut down properly and have the option to boot into safe mode, etc. When I boot back into normal mode I receive a message in Windows saying windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down. I follow the prompt to check for a solution, but get no solution.

Hopefully someone who knows more about power management than me can help out!

I bought a Satellite C50D-A-13N a few days ago and it has been fine.
However, I've had an issue with sleep mode a couple of times.

The laptop will go into sleep mode as expected (when the lid is shut or when I press the power button). However, when I press the power button to turn it back on, it comes to life for a few seconds - the screen is on and I can move the mouse and interact with stuff - but then goes straight back into sleep mode again after a few seconds. All I can do to get it to work is to shut it down completely by holding down the power button and restarting, which I REALLY hate doing.

On my notebook I use the same settings but when I close the lid notebook goes into sleep mode. When I open the lid notebook starts automatically without using power button.

Does the same happen with your notebook?

I have two problems with my T500.1. I try to use the Lenovo update function and it keeps saying error in downlaoding packet. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but, same thing. 2. The laptop will not come out of sleep mode or start up after I let it sit for awhile. I have to hold the power button down and it does the whole reboot sequence.

Windows 7 pro, desktop, 2 internal sata hd

Read most of the many threads on this subject. I have turned off Sleep using Control Panel, Editing the Registry, disabling hybrid computer as described in this forums tutorial.

The Start/Sleep button is not grayed out and still shuts down the computer although the automatic timed sleep mode seems to be eliminated. Moving or clicking the mouse does not wake up the computer as originally. I have to remove the power cord for a few minutes and then press the power button. I think the computer then comes back up w/o the windows sign-on window as if awakening from Sleep. Windows 7 initializtion is very slow.

Problem with Sleep arose after installing an external drive enclosure with a sata hd and using the esata interface which did not work and caused loss of 2nd internal hard drive.

I do not mind the automatic sleep mode if the computer would awaken properly.

Forgot to mention the following: Even though the Sleep recovery does not work, the computer responds to Restart and turn on from power shut down normally in its usual quick fashion.

My Dell desktop PC has been running Windows 10 since last Fall. About two weeks ago it began to have difficulty waking from sleep. Pressing the power button or a key on the keyboard causes the fan to come on and the hard drive to spin up, but the screen remains dark and in low-power mode. When I press a key the Caps Lock indicator lights up briefly.
I have to shut the PC down by a long press on the power button. When I reboot it, it starts up OK and in fact the previous set of running programs is reopened. I think this might be due to hybrid sleep: when I force a restart Windows reloads state from the hibernation file.
I've tried a couple of suggestions I found online, such as using System Restore to roll back. No improvement. Others have suggested changing the version of a device driver, such as the graphics driver, but my graphics driver is the same version it has been since installing W10.
Has anyone else noticed a change in the behaviour of sleep in the last couple of weeks? I'm wondering if this is due to some update pushed by Windows Update.
TIA for any advice.
- richard

Answer:Desktop PC fails to wake from sleep, how can I fix this?

Hi Richard,
Are you using Windows 10 1511 version ? If yes, Please try to install the latest windows update KB3140768 which brings your windows version into Windows 10 build 10586.164. So far it is fixing my issue with "sleep issue" on Microsoft Surface hardware.
No problem so far that I can see.
Hope this helps.

Hello, I have 3 HDDs on my PC. Two WDC 640 GB Blacks (manufacture date June 2009) and a 1 TB Black (manufacture date November 2009). I use the 1 TB Black for storing my documents while the two 640 GB Blacks are for OS/Apps and Scratch files respectively.

The problem is when I wake up the PC from S3 sleep mode. The 2 640 GB Blacks spin up fine and I could get to the desktop but the 1 TB Black fails to start. Has anyone had issues similar to mine? Any suggestions?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-55P-UD4PA.

Hello, Lenovo team Can you please, add to your next BIOS update for Lenovo Y50-70 a fix, that my laptop won't lose CPU speed after i return my laptop from sleep mode. Right now i'm using BIOS version (3.03) There is no other way to fix this issue, only you can do it with a BIOS update for that model of laptop. Thank you.

Upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.When laptop lid is closed, after about an hour or more the power light is steady on.Laptop will not wake from Sleep Mode.  Keypad, or any other key does not wake this up.Hard shutdown/reboot via holding power key does force a reboot and system works after that.Have put this manually into Sleep Mode and power light blinks and wakes up on keyboard select.  Long term sleep causes problem to recur when manually placed into sleep mode I have updated all drivers including the MEI driver.I have checked power options and all are correct re Sleep Mode.Hibernate Mode is not selected for any Power Profile. I see some reference to installing a backlevel MEI driver version 9.xxxxxxx.  I don't understand how to do that or if that is compatible with my laptop.  I have downloaded in from the Intel website, but have not unzipped it.  Also have seen suggestions to turn off the MEI driver. Any guidance on how to proceed next would be appreciated.  If install of the driver is required, what specifically must I do to accomplish that?

For years I have had dual monitors working fine in my Win 7 machine. Then a few months ago I started having problems when the computer turn on or wakes from sleep mode. The primary monitor turns on then switches off after a second. The only remedy is to
turn off the monitor, turn on, and repeat until finally the monitor stays awake.

I have tried shutting down the computer and starting using the system restore disk - the monitor does not come on.
I tried installing a replacement video card (and turning off the motherboard video support) the problem is the same. This indicates it is not the video driver or physical video chip.

but not after a short period?

Hello to all

I have set up a windows 7 x64 machine as a file server for my htpc in the lounge.
Now to save pennies i have set it to sleep at night and then wake in the mornings so its up and ready for the music and movies to be present for the htpc.

Now if i manually run the scheduled task to set the machine to sleep and set the wake schedule for ten minutes later, it wakes fine. But if i run the schedule as it should at night, the system never wakes in the morning and neither will the mouse let me? i have to press the power button for it to come back to life like its hibernating. But i have disabled hibernate using the following link.

I have a step by step guide as to what i have done in regards to both sleep and wake schedule here.

Any advice would be greatly received and tested asap, also when the kids have has their showers and in bed i will provide specs of that system if its going to help.

Hello All, My new Y410 Laptop keyboard does not respond when it wakes from a sleep or hibernate when windows resumes. I would say 7 out of 10 times it does that. I saw another thread here: But that option does not even exist in Devide Manager. I run the OEM Windows Vista that came along. In Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan settings -> Change advanced power settings -> And there is NOTHING for pointing device or Keyboards. Is this a driver issue or power setting or a Hardware issue. Has anyone found a resolution to this? Could there be a registry setting? I'm at the end of my wits here trying to figure out what is going on with my pc..

I have an overclocked pc, to 4.6 which has been rock stable.. sleep mode has worked fine.. i choose sleep and it stays asleep..

I decided to wipe my C drive on my samsung Evo ssd (no samsung software running).. and start clean.. i also tested this on my older test image, same issue..

If i choose sleep, it instantly comes back out of sleep (same with doing a shutdown too, though if i shutdown from bios no issue)..

I've tried everything.. i've tried viewing the wake events, nothing really there as a clue..
I've tried setting wake timers to disabled.. tried setting the nic card power management to off.. tried disabling the nic too.. saw that the mouse and keyboard are set to wake, set those to disabled for waking, no change.. tried pulling every usb from the machine.. still the same.

I've also tried updating via device manager various drivers, using the update button, some did update, but made no difference

Some of the commands i've used include:
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
powercfg /requests

Also ran the sleepstudy option, but when it says woke up, cause is "unknown"
Again, this all worked fine about 10 days ago on the old OS, its the new one giving it fits (and technically my older test win 10 image too for some reason).

I went into the bios and disabled the overclock for the most part, basically took my ratio from 46 to 43 (i7-6700k).. same ... Read more

My wireless HP keyboard Sleep function used to work perfectly before Windows 10 install. Simply used to hit the Sleep button to close down, and then again to reactivate the computer. Since installing Windows 10 it works to shut down, but does not reawaken the system. Very annoying - I don't want to have to open my laptop and hit the Power button every time, please advise how to resolve.

Answer:Why doesn't the wake from Sleep function work after Windows 10 update?

At this time, the best thing I can suggest is to report the issue via Windows Feedback to make sure that Microsoft is aware of the issue. There are others reporting this issue on the Surface Pro 3, so this is not an isolated incident.
Also see,
There are more threads as well, but just to let you know you aren't alone. It's not a solution, but reporting to Microsoft will help lead to a solution faster.

Ever since I've installed a second hard drive in my T410, a Hitachi 250GB drive, my machine fails to wake from sleep (sometimes)... Then I have to do a hard reset. I had the same problem without the 2nd drive when I tried to use the HD Password in the BIOS and found out that it was something to do with the Crucial M4 drive I'm using. But this same problem is now happening ever since using the 2nd drive slot. Any ideas? I really like the extra storage space and don't want to remove it based on this problem.

G'day All,

First post here - been having this problem for a few months now - developed a work around, but it's starting to get under my skin now.. Mainly because the system does it's updates at night, which means that my PC stays on (after BSOD) and usually keeps the screen on as well, which wakes me up eventually, or keeps the house hot (who cares, anyway.)

I've been reading the forums & trying to work it out myself, except the error code changes depending on what I'm doing..

I've attached the current BSOD grab, hopefully it gives enough information, and I've run the FurMark - and the display driver crashed (as usual - I'm starting to think it might be a faulty Graphics card..)

Enough of my chatter - let me know if it's something simple

I've upgraded my Lenovo T540p to Windows 10 Creators Update and the laptop stopped waking up from sleep mode. All I see is flickering display (once in a few secs). Sometimes it wakes up after a minute or so of such behavior. Though most of the times only reboot helps. I went further and did a clean install of Windows 10 Creators update. The problem persists.  Didn't have such a problem before the latest update. Does anyone have the same issue? Any ideas why it's happening?

Starting with BIOS 1.61, Twist will fail to wake up after sleeping for approx 3 hours.  After sleeping for 3 hours, the system will enter a "deep sleep" state that Lenovo calls 30-Day Standby.  Due to a BIOS bug, the system is not able to wake from this state.  After trying to wake for 2 minutes (while the red LED flashes), eventually it will fail and the system will reboot.
To work-around this issue, please run Lenovo Settings from the Win8 start screen.  Then click on Power, and choose the option to disable 30-day Standby

Answer:Twist/S230u bug: system fails to wake after long period of sleep

On my Twist S230U, I have turned off the 30 day standby as suggested but it has not fixed the problem. At first I thought it had but 1 day later it hasn't. The 30 day standby is still off.

Hopefully this will make the BIOS update process a bit easier.  The following steps address two common questions (Failed BIOS Update and the Windows message about improperly configured Secure Boot).  NOTE: After a successful BIOS update you will want to check additional items in the BIOS not directly covered in the steps below (e.g. Intel Virtualization.... the update disabled this for me.) U430 BIOS Update Procedure: 1. Download the BIOS update from Lenovo (it will be in .exe format... the program will install new BIOS).2. Shut down computer.3. Use the "Novo" button (tiny button on left side near Power button).4. Enter BIOS setup.5. Under "Security" select "Secure Boot" and choose "DISABLED" (this allows the BIOS update program to work properly).6. Under "Exit" select "Exit Saving Changes".7. Computer will reboot. Log in to Windows (it will have a message stating "Secure Boot not configured properly" this is expected).8. Run the Lenovo BIOS program (this will reboot the computer and you should see an update status screen). Once finished, the computer will reboot. Log in to Windows (the "Secure Boot" message will still be there) and then turn the computer OFF (I've found that turning off the computer from the log-in screen doesn't completely shut down the computer. If that's the case then hold the Power button until it does shut down).9. Use the "Novo" button and enter BIOS setup.10. Under "Security" make sure "Secure Boot" is ENABLED.11. Also under "Secur... I have multiple Inspiron 7569 systems that do not work correctly after install the 1709 update. When waking from sleep, the display just shows random black & white lines. I also have multiple Inspiron 7353 systems that exhibit the exact same behavior with the 1709 update installed. Dell lists both models as tested for this update.
In 100% of cases:

Rebooting and using F12 to run diagnostics shows no hardware problems
Using Dell Update to check for updates says the machines are up-to-date
Rolling Windows back to 1703 immediately fixes the problem

Given the number of machines and complete consistency in behavior it seems overwhelmingly likely there's a software or driver compatibility problem here. Is the list of compatible models simply wrong? Are the software updates needed to fix this problem distributed through some channel other than the normal Dell Update? Something else?

Hello all,

I really hope someone can help me out. I am not savvy in this kind of stuff. My husband has a home built computer that runs our tv system with windows media center. He had to leave on a military deployment and right before he left he had to reinstall the OS. Since then the computer refuses to wake from sleep mode. I have to scram it to get it to come back up. Since we run the media center it ought to wake up to record automatically, but it isn't doing that either. I've checked all the power options but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Although, at this point, I really have no clue. Any help is greatly appreciated!

System goes into Sleep Mode, but when I try to wake, it freezes with Black Screen, so I have to restart system, and when I do, it gives me a "Resuming Windows" screen and takes me back to where the I was when Sleep Mode entered.

By process of elimination, I know the problem is being caused by some newly installed software, namely HTC Sync Manager, but I don't know where/how/why the conflict is occurring...and here's the rub-I really want to keep HTC Hot Sync.

I've tested the HTC software on two different PCs running Win 7, with same result, but HTC says I'm the only one reporting this problem, help from that end.

I'm hoping that someone here can give me some suggestions of things to try that might at least localize the problem or ideally be a workaround.

I have an HP Pavilion p7-1154

I literally did a complete reformat yesterday, and did not have this problem prior to reformatting.

Since then, every time my computer goes to sleep, I cannot wake it up.

Moving the mouse, pressing a key, or even a short press on the power button. I have to manually power it down, unplug it, let the reserve light drain, and then turn it back on.

I tried to Google, but I can't find anything that isn't a bunch of blind leading the blind. I am fairly proficient with computers.

I have this weird issue occasionally. But it is getting more frequent recently. I usually close the lid to enter sleep mode instead of going to Start Bar and selecting it. (I assume these two ways work same) But if I open the lid and hit Enter Key, the machine won't wake up. However, it will keep turn itself on and off again and again. It's like you press the switch button, then you hear the processor runs and the key board light flashes. Then, it goes power off. The whole thing lasts about 2 seconds. Then it will repeat again and again until I hold switch button for few seconds, then it goes to power off. Then I re-truen it on, it will take me to START WINDOWS NORMALLY Screen. Does any body have sameissue? I saw the same issue got posted on another computer forum. Thanks.

Hi all,

I have a problem with my pc, as I sleep my computer via the sleep button on keyboard, or under start menu, it sleeps normally.
But when i attempt to 'wake it up' by pressing the power button, the pc failed to resume to windows, while the fans n power are function by the sound of it, and i'll have to force shut down my comp by holding onto my power button as the reset button and other things doesnt work.

This has happen occassionally/often, sometimes it can wake up and sometimes it cant, I'm not sure what is causing it.
I do notice that the num-lock light on my keyboard (which is always on when in windows) switches on in the case that the computer can wake up, and stays off after sleep mode if it cannot b wake up after i press the power button.

Its been a problem for a while but I've jst been far too busy to seek solutions to this. If anyone could lead/guide me in the right direction in solving this problem it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

When running on battery this computer rarely wakes from sleep.  I noticed that if I try to wake from manually entering sleep within about 10 seconds it will come back on rare occasion, typically only once after a reboot.  Any longer than 10 seconds and it won't happen.  If the charger is connected, the device is 10x more likely to return from sleep after a few seconds.  Additionally, the manual says you can wake from sleep by opening the lid, pressing the power key, pressing a keyboard key, or tapping the touch pad.  My HP only wakes from the power bottun when on battery, and the power button and sometimes when opening the lid when connected to the charger.  The keyboard and touchpad have no effect.  I've updated all the drivers/bios from the support assistant.  While updating drivers in attempt to fix this issue, the display driver said a power state could not be changed.  I verified Windows 10 has completed all updates.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the Display driver.  No errors the second time.  I went to the device manager and made sure the keyboard power management setting was set to wake from sleep.  I did mess with the power settings a bit, I reset them to default levels of the HP recommended settings.  Nothing seems to help the situation. I've followed the steps on this site: Any recommendations?  It w... I have my computer set to sleep after 30 mins of idle so that it won't stay on all night. But lately when I wake it in the morning, I have noticed the cpu temperature steadily rises over 2-5 mins until it gets so hot the computer shuts itself off without even performing a crash dump first. I started using Coretemp to monitor it to discover this when the shutdowns started, and WhoCrashed to try to figure out the crashes (but since its not creating a report that doesn't work). I normally run below 40 for idle and below 50 at load, but after waking from sleep it starts in the 30's and just keeps climbing without the fan ever becoming more audible or seeming to react. Its not a false reading either - you can SMELL it getting hot, thats why I got Coretemp involved in trying to figure it out.

It is now doing this every single time it sleeps, whereas before it was more random. After it shuts off (or I shut it off to protect it), and cools off for a few mins, I turn it back on and can hear the cpu fan kick on in high gear for a while then gradually slow down - interestingly it it does not kick in like that during the overheating after wake.

So... what would cause the cpu fan to fail to compensate for overheating ONLY after waking from sleep mode?!

Answer:CPU overheating on wake from sleep mode

Before replacing the fan, look at the manual for your motherboard and see if it has special BIOS settings for the CPU fan. If it does, then you might find a solution there. For example, some motherboards have a feature for setting the CPU fan to quiet mode and I could see this causing a problem with a fan that is sticking slightly and gets a bigger kick of voltage when booting than it does when waking from sleep.

If you are uncomfortable with looking at your BIOS settings, I can tell you how to proceed safely.

Have you looked at the fan? If it has a wire or cable rubbing against it or has a lot of dust on it, that may cause it to be harder to start spinning when waking than when normally booting (the initial surge of voltage can be different).

If you open it up to look at the fan, be sure to turn it off, unplug it from the wall, push the power button to make sure any residual power is drained, touch the metal casing first (in case you have static electricity built up in your body) and use a pen or pencil to see how easily the fan spins.

Does it awaken from stand-by if you press the Fn key? That's been the ThinkPad standard for as long as I can remember.

This used to never happen, then it happened rarely, and now it's happening at least twice a day. When I leave my computer (a vista, I wasn't sure where to put this) alone for to long, it often goes into sleep mode, or something like it, and won't wake up. The monitor light will blink blue as it does when it's asleep, or sometimes not be there at all and refuse to be turned on. Needless to say, the computer does not respond to any commands (that I know of) in this state and I have to wait for it to wake up randomly. This also often happens when I boot up the computer-the screen stays black throughout the startup process, and finally comes on around twenty minutes after starting the computer up.

What's going on? The tower appears to be working just fine but there's nothing on the screen. The whole thing has become very capricious.

Answer:Computer can't wake up from sleep mode

Hi Loading

It rather sounds like your computer is going into hibernation, rather than just standby or a sleep state. At those times when it won't wake to mouse or keyboard actions, try pushing the physical power button on your desktop's case once (just a quick, brief push should do --- don't hold it down long). If the system is in hibernation, it should then produce your desktop as it was when it went into hibernation [although you first might have to enter your password, if you have it set to prompt for a password on resumption from a standby, sleep, or hibernation state].

You can change your power-savings plan by using the Power applet in the Control Panel. A quick way to get there is simply to type powercfg.cpl into the Vista Search Box that is at the bottom of the Vista Start Menu - and then press your Enter key. Lots of choices there for you on how you want your system to behave for power-saving modes.

Here's a fairly decent troubleshooter for standby/sleep/hibernation problems --- Troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Vista Sleep and Hibernate

The twenty minute lag before showing a screen is downright scary. You shouldn't have to wait much more than perhaps 90 seconds on a reasonably tuned system (though Vista has been known to take as long as three minutes on system that have less than 2gb of system memory, and have a larger than average number of processes running at startup).

I hadn't had this issue in the past but all of a sudden recently when I put my computer into sleep mode, when I go to wake it up it doesn't.  I have to restart it by holding down the power button, which sometimes causes a message to appear saying I didn't shut down the computer properly last time.
Has anyone else every had this issue before?  I think there was a recent windows update done, could this have done it?  HELP!

Hi all,

I just finished building my first computer yesterday. Everything seems to be working just great, except when I put my computer in sleep mode and try to wake it up.

Here is my issue: When I put my computer to sleep, it works fine. When I try to wake it up (by pressing power button or hitting key on keyboard), it powers on for a brief second and then shuts down. The only way to get it back on is by pressing the power button again, resetting the pc. I just want to know how to set it up so when i hit a key on my keyboard it will wake up with no issues. Side notes: I have disabled hybrid sleep mode and clicked the box to allow keyboard to wake computer.

Please help. Thank you.

I have a Dell Studio XPS435 MT running Windows 7. For the past six months I noticed that when waking the computer from sleep mode, occasionally the monitor would not wake up and I would have to reboot. It got worse and worse until now it will never wake up without rebooting. I also noticed when I reboot, if I don't wait a few seconds for the computer noises to stop and immediately press the power button; the computer starts beeping loudly and nothing works. I have to manually shut it down and wait about 30-40 seconds to reboot. I have tried every one of the suggestions on these posts but nothing helped.

Answer:Monitor will not wake up from sleep mode

Regards the monitor not sure what to suggest

The series of beeps you are hearing maybe a mobo error code

Often mobo will put out a series/combination of long/short beeps identifying an error, listen to the beeps next time you hear them and check your manufacturers www for an error code list

Hello,Sorry for my English. I have a ThinkPad T430 (2347-3E4) and clean install of Windows 8.1. My computer does not want to wake up from sleep mode. Sleep normally, but after waking up is started but do not receive any information and after about 5 seconds restarts. The same effect with original HDD, and Samsung SSD (840 Evo).  Thank you for your information.

Answer:wake up from sleep mode T430

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I?m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad T430 is restarting while you try to wake it up from sleep.
Go to control panel -> Power options -> Click on choose what closing the lid does (on the left side of the window) -> Select sleep -> OK.
If the above settings are as recommended, update your BIOS and Intel Management Engine firmware to the latest versions from Lenovo Support page. Enter your MTM number in the ?Quick Path? and download the drivers.
Try reseating your memory. Try running the system with only one memory of you have multiple RAM in your system. Check in event viewer to see what exactly is causing the restart.
Hope this helps!

The video driver provides the signal to keep the monitor out of standby so if it is corrupted somehow it might not be able to come out.

Hello. I have this Gateway P4 2.5mhz and it will not wake up after it has been in sleep mode for awhile. I just did a complete reinstall of WinXP home the other day which makes it more frustrating. So I am very cautious in any solution. I did disable the sleep mode features as a workaround in the meantime. I did some chatting with Gateway and the tech chat guy recommend using WinXP home CD that came with the computer to do a repair but he said I would have to remove SP2 in order to do the repair as the WinXP home CD is sp1. I really hate to do that. I was wondering if slip streaming WinXP home sp1 with SP2 could achieve the same thing. Is a slip stream CD capable of repairing? How reliable are slip streamed version? Amazing how long it takes to reinstall when all is said and done. And, of course, if you have any other suggestions to get it to wake up in sleep mode. Thanks

Note: I did do a slip stream version using AutoStreamer which is a no brainer.

Hello. I left my computer on for longer than I would have liked and it went into sleep mode and never came back out. I have tried all the common fixes that i could do without a monitor such as using the keyboard or mouse to wake it up from sleep (which has always worked in the past), unplugging devices, hard computer reset, and swapping cables. Monitor works in another computer. It has never done this before. It's a custom built computer I did years ago. Has anyone else had this issue that found a fix that works? Fixes that require a monitor are no good at the moment.

hi i woke up this morning to find my computer in sleep mode as usual however when i move my mouse to wake it up as normal nothing happens , my mouse which is a razer naga wakes up and lights up but my computer and keyboard show no change, i tried pressing the power button and reset button but nothing happened.
Eventually i resorted to turning off the power to the tower until the blue power light stopped blinking and then managed to boot the pc up, when it did boot up it had everything open from last time as if i had just woken it up as normal , i shut down the computer normally to see if that may fix the problem but to no avail.
I am able to reproduce the problem by manually selecting go to sleep on the shut down screen.
Recently i have been having some problems which playing guild wars 2 with the bsod which i posted here a week ago Bluescreen during GW2
I updated my graphics card driver to the latest beta drivers the day i posted that thread and since then only had the game crash once and i suspect that was due to overheating as i have my pc in a very small stuffy room and i remember it being uncomfortably hot that evening since then i keep the windows open and had the side plate fo the case removed to give it more circulation for a while.
Im really not sure what causeing this problem the pc runs fine when its up and running and it boot up from full shut down no sweat its just this odd sleep mode problem.
thank you for your time.

Obviously the keyboard keypress and/or mouse click can wake it up, but what other things? Mouse movement definitely doesn't wake it up.

I prefer to make it sleep rather than hibernate (hibernation is disabled, to save having a 32GB file saved each time). After choosing Win 7 Start menu then "Sleep", it will happily go into sleep mode. But then sometimes (not all the time), after finally getting to sleep and the fans go off and the illuminated keyboard goes off, it'll wait a second and then wake straight back up and show the windows fast login menu. I have to hold the power button for a second to put it back to sleep. Then it's 50/50 whether it'll wake itself up again. Sometimes I have go through this procedure 3 times to make it go to sleep. On other occasions it'll work first time.

I tried disabling the LAN adaptor's "wake on LAN" but that didn't make any difference.

New to this forum posted my specs while registering so I assume whoever wants to help me can access my profile and view them,

I recently built my PC without to much problem, only little bug I have is the sata3 HDD connected with a 6gbs transfer sata cable in a sata3 port is only a 3gbs transfer speed. Although my real concern is that twice after awaking from sleep mode my PC just freezes and enters BSOD, I haven't used the PC much since I built it mainly because I live in 2 different homes and currently not at the home with my new comp, but I believe that if it happened twice out of a possible 9-10 sleep mode wake ups its going to keep happening until I find a fix.

I read this could revolve around driver issues for vista so just for additional info I updated the graphics driver and all the asus drivers using the cd that comes with the MOBO.

looking forward for ideas thank you

Win 7 64 bit, Gigabyte MB
With a USB 3.0 hub connected to a rear USB 3.0 port on MB.
When the PC goes to sleep it cannot be awaken or be started. The start button is lit. Normally when the PC is asleep the start button is not lit.
To start the PC I have to disconnect USB 3.0 hub, and do a forced shut down by pressing the start button for 5 sec.
I start anew the PC, get the screen with the different startup options, and select start windows normally. The PC will start w/o a problem.
If I do not disconnect the USB 3.0 hub the PC will not start.
This did not happen with a USB 2.0 hub to the same USB 3.0 port
Note that the USB 3.0 hub is new.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Hey working on A Dell Inspiron 530S Desktop with Vista Home Premium SP2, just did a reinstall all seemed to be well until i try to put it in sleep mode.. When i do, it goes to somewhat sleep, by way of somewhat I mean the monitor goes off, yet the fans still whistle and the drives keep going.. Then finally they cease and the power button blinks to notify me i;m in sleep mode.. I then try to click mouse, or push key on keyboard to wake it up, absolutely no response.. I then have to power it down by way of holding power button in.. when it finally goes off, I turn back on and it seems like it's waking from hibernation mode not sleep.. What I mean is the task bar slowly appears, then some Desktop icons, all very slowly, it takes full minute to get entire desktop back, and 3 minutes overall for it to function properly. Says drivers are all up to date but I don't really trust that.. I reset all power options to balanced (thats what they were anyway) And didn't seem to be any BIOS setting to change (reset them too) could there be a driver or program confliction somewhere? This is Weird.. thanks in advance

Hi SevenForums. This is my first post here, so forgive me if I'm breaking any etiquette.

My problem is that, if I just close my laptop and let it do it's thing, when I re-open it and it goes to boot up, it takes a very long time, up to fifteen minutes. And even after that, everything is basically unresponsive. Opening the start menu takes several minutes, running the Task Manager takes no less than five. That's to say nothing for larger programs.

This happened several times, all in situations where I closed my laptop without shutting down or logging off. I'm not sure what the default action is for that (sleep or hibernate?) but whichever it is seems to cause my laptop to simply cease being able to perform.

Prior to now, this was easy enough to fix by just restarting the laptop, sometimes a couple of times. Now, however, unless I boot in safe mode (such as I am now, with networking), I can barely get past the log-in screen. Anyone have any solutions?

I don't know about tech stuff really, but I can take directions well enough. If there's any other information I can provide, let me know. I'll be diligently checking this post all night!

Thanks in advance, guys.

I have only had my netbook for a couple of days so I'm not quite used to it yet though I'm well used to Windows 7 . I close the lid to turn on sleep mode but then it's difficult to wake the computer up. I often have to hold down the power switch to force a shut down and then reboot. Not something I want to do.
I have a USB mouse plugged in and I've enabled the USB wake up facility but nothing works. I open the lid and press keys, including trying a quick press of the power button but nothing happens. Has anyone any ideas?

Answer:NB200-12W won't wake from sleep mode

Hi mate

I wake up mu notebook from hibernation mode pressing the power button.
I don?t need to force the shut down. Just shortly press the power button in order to wake up the unit.

In your case I recommend checking if a BIOS update is possible.
You should check what version is available on the notebook and what version has been released. If newer version is available then update it!

I have a Equium A60, my laptop went into sleep mode and when I pressed the on button which was flashing orange nothing happened, after trying a few times still nothing happened.

I decided to take the battery out to try and recitify the problem. Unfortunately no power will come on now. Any suggestions.

You said, you have removed battery but did you leave it for several time???
Disconnect the AC adaptor and remove the battery from the notebook. Wait 15-20min and then connect the both parts again to the notebook!

Please post again if the notebook runs again!

Good luck
