Lenovo U460 WiFi issue

Question: Lenovo U460 WiFi issue

Yes, I've read all the other posts. This is what happened: I opened my computer one day and the wireless LAN does not detect any networks, even if there is a wireless network. I tried using the Windows Troubleshooter, cannot fix the problem. So I did a system restore, it fixed it. I opened it again today and the same issue happened. System Restore did nothing. Fn+F5 brings up the Lenovo Wireless Device Settings, but no Wireless is seen, only Bluetooth. I've tried reinstalling Power Management, same thing. I've looked at the BIOS, Wireless Networking is on. When I try to reinstall the Wireless Lan Driver, the message No Matched Device Driver appears. I have attached a picture of what appears in the Device Manager: I am running W7 Professional 64-bit.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo U460 WiFi issue

Hi cjquines,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The WIFI Device is not detected physically.

Try opening BIOS
Turn ON the computer and start pressing F2
Computer should enter BIOS
Under configuration.. look for WLAN settings and make sure that it is Enabled.

Press F10 to save and exit and your device should be back.

If this setting is Already Enabled and still in device manager you can't find the Wireless, You might need to check the Actual WLAN card, maybe reseat it.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

I have been very happy with my U460 up until this point.  A very good value I thought.   Problem: Unit running well.  One day my wife complains that the wifi is dropping on her.  We reset the router and it seemingly went right back to normal operation. This continued however, not more than 10 minutes later.  I took a look at it and diagnosed it as a wifi router issue.  I called my isp and they reccomended I started cycling the channels used on the router to avoid any interference.  So I did that. Absoulutely no improvement.  About that time I brought other machines into the mix and they would have no issue at all while the u460 would drop the connection periodically. So I called Lenovo and they had me remove some bloatware from the computer, I forget the name of the program.  They also had me reinstall the drivers for the wifi.  This did nothing, but I gave it a day or two to let it work itself out. Next thing was to flash the hard drive completely.  This did nothing.  In fact, this made the situation somewhat worse for some reason, but it is hard to really quantify what is "worse".  They then sent a box for me to return the machine. Return 1: From all I can tell they just flashed the hard drive again and put it back in the box.  The notes said they saw this issue I saw. I almost immediately call them up again and they send me a RMR number to send the u460 back R... I'm unable to connect to the internet via wifi on my u460. Ethernet works fine but I can't even see any wireless networks to connect to. It seems to have to do with my wireless adapter being powered off or disabled somehow but I can't figure out how to re-enable it. I know fn+f5 is supposed to allow you to do that but when i press those keys nothing happens. Do i need to install something to make that hotkey work?

For the hotkey to work, you have to install lenovo energy managementhttp://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073070

I am share my experience with this forum as i could not hold Lenovo support supervisor ( customer relationship). Hope some one from Lenovo customer relationship department could read it  and keep Lenovo customer happy.  We purchased our Lenovo Idea-Pad in September. In the middle of December, we experienced a screen flicking issue on the Idea-Pad. When the laptop powered up, the screen would flicker colored lines across the screen. We called the support line for help and still have not resolved our issue. For a rough summary, here are all the steps that we went through from start to end when we tried to diagnose the issue with Lenovo support: We were first told to remove the power panel and hit the power button. (To release the static power on laptop) After doing that, we were able to login to laptop, but soon saw the flickering issue again. Flickering issue is NOT related to static power residing on the battery. We called back to Lenovo support again. This time, we were told by support to download new video card software image from your website, (Although the image version on our laptop is newer than the download version) Knowing this would not fix anything, we did it anyway, and still saw the flickering.  Flickering issue is NOT caused by software drivers. So we called again. This time, the customer support asked us to restore all the software back to manufacture defaults. At this point, I highly doubted this would be a software problem, but still rel... Read more

Hello! I just bought a Lenovo B580 59-339463 (i5 3210m Ivy Bridge)  laptop, installed Win7, installed all drivers on the dvd (including the 3 wlan drivers - intel/realte/broadcom - not sure this was a smart move) only to find that I am unable to connect usign the wifi. I've been browsing round the web for the past 2 hours, but nothing seemed to help.WiFi is turned on (in BIOS, in device manager, in adaptor settings in fn+f5) The WiFi connections just don't show up in the list of network connections When diagnosing the WiFI connection I receive a message informing me that the "Wireless adapter is experieincing problems" and then this message: "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter. Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter." Intel ProSet/WiFi tools -> Diagnostics -> Hardware Test FAILED. The wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled                                                                         Software Test PASSED Since i'm rather new at all this, never having owned a laptop before, I've completely ran out of ideas. So I turn to you, maybe you know what to make of all this. Thanks!

In recent weeks, I have problem shutting down my laptop. Everytime I attempt to it down, it reboots instead and enter the One-Key recovery page. In there, it has the option of shut down or reboot. Shut down will merely reboot again to the same one key recovery page. Reboot will allow me to enter into windows 7. In any case, I'm still unable to shut down my laptop. Appreciate if anyone can advise on the solution. Thanks.

I wish to upgrade to windows 8 on my Lenovo u460 but I'm worried about driver compatibility issues. Can I just carry over the same win7 drivers onto windows 8? I'm mostly concerned about my nvidia 305m/Intel HD switchable graphics driver. Can someone point me to where I can get the correct drivers for my laptop? I looked through some of the lenovo resources but I couldn't find what I needed. Thanks.

Answer:Upgrading to Windows 8 - Lenovo u460

hi de1337ed,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Windows 8 has a built-in driver database where it detects and installs the right driver for your system, In an event that it doesn't detect your devices correctly, in this case, the Intel HD+GeForce 305M, you need to install the Intel HD Graphics first then install the Nvidia drivers

IntelŽ HD Graphics Driver for Windows 7* and Windows 8* 64 (zip)
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html

If you can't get the Nvidia drivers to install, you need to mod the inf file and add the device ID (see link below):

Today I received my second U460, and for the second time the order was made incorrectly. Here is my story: On December 24th I placed an order for a U460 in black/purple hairline color. This was to be my college graduation gift. On January 4th the package arrived and I opened it, only to realize that the laptop was not black/purple hairline, but rather midnight plum (dark purple) in color. I immediately called Lenovo sales and discussed with them that the laptop sent to me was not the correct color. They checked my order number and confirmed that I had ordered black/purple hairline U460, and that I should not have received a midnight plum colored U460. As such, they sent me return information to have the laptop shipped back to Lenovo via UPS and placed another order for a U460 with black/purple hairline. Today I received my second order in the mail. Once again, I open the box to find that I had received yet another midnight plum U460. Again I call customer service and tell them that this is the second time this has happened, and that each time I ordered black/purple hairline and each time I received purple plum. So the representative does checks the order number and comes back to tell me that each of my orders were for midnight plum. Now, it is interesting to note that black/purple hairline is no longer available in the U460. The representative claims that the product number I ordered shows up on the website as midnight plum. However, it is entirely possible tha... Read more

Also forgot to add, but it cannot be very hard for Lenovo to send me a black/purple hairline cover for the laptop. Surely they can be taken off and put on somewhat easily.

Hi guys, i recently bought a lenovo u460, and yesterday spilled a little of soda in it's keyboard. I turned it off fast, clean and let it dry. Now i am using it and i notice that some keys, work ok, but after being pressed come back to the normal position slowly, like that they are stuck together, because of the sugar of the soda i think.what i want to do is to remove the keyboard, clean it and install it again.Could i have a link or instructions to remove the keyboard ?Any other suggestion ?Thanks

Answer:Small soda spill on lenovo u460 keyboard

Well, I can't find any details on breaking down this unit! Too new?

Anyways, you might want to look into getting a new keyboard with installation instructions, because I believe any attempts to cleaning it without removing it may leave liquid damage indicators on the mainboard, killing any warranty love.

Good luck!

Answer:Lenovo Y50-70 WiFi issue

It sounds like the driver needed by Windows to communicate with your WiFi adapter has become corrupted, so you need to go to Lenovo support site here, select the correct Windows operating system for your system, use the "Pick a Component" pulldown to select "Networking: Wirelesss LAN" and download the driver and install the latest driver.     I am not sure which one of the two drivers listed you need, but just try installing both of them, since only one will work, and the other will just fail to install. If all else fails,Right click on the network controller under "other devices",Select Uninstall,Check the box to "Delete the driver software for this device: (if offered), and then press OK.Reboot if prompted to do so, but if no reboot is required, just right click on any device in Device Manager and select "scan for hardware changes".    Windows will then scan for the card, and attempt to install the driver. Good Luck,

When I logged again, the wifi adapter was able to search for nearby wifi networks and able to connect with them. But when I restarted the laptop, I faced same issue again. I have recently bought a Lenovo C340, and have encountered a slight problem with wifi.  My ISP is BT and I have a dual band BT Homehub 4 which uses 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies.  The preferred frequency for my set up should be 5ghz, but the Lenovo only detects and connects to the 2.4ghz frequency.  My tablet can connect to both frequencies and so it seems to be an issue with the Lenovo rather than with the Homehub.  The only advice given by BT is to give each frequency a different SSID, which I have done, but the Lenovo still doesn't detect the 5ghz signal.   Would anyone know if there is simple way of overcoming this issue, or should I just content myself with the 2.4ghz connection. Any help appreciated.

All Three Wifi card are signle band and can work up to 2.4 GHZ only. So i believe 5ghz won't work with the system.

The problem is only when the lap is not connected to the charger. Due to this I always have to connect the laptop to the charger.Any solutions?I'm not sure if this is related to your problem but operating in battery mode will cause the unit to run in another mode compared to high performance mode when plugged in. So may try changing the power plan to high performance when in battery mode. Of course this will cause a faster drain in your battery.

Hi, I'm Using the Lenovo G550 2985 machine and struggling with Wifi services. I was able to use the services initially when i bought the laptop without any problem, but after sometime i formated my laptop and reinstalled the win 7 and installed all the drivers including Wifi. Unfortunately machine wasn't recognizing the drivers as I checked in devmgmt.msc, I couldn't see the drivers there, I also checked the services.msc and the wifi was on start and automatic. Later I uninstalled the ReadyComm but still it didn't help me at all. It's just i can't get my Wifi on this machine since i formated my lapton. Please help if u any suggestion..

Apologies if this has been addressed before but my problem is pretty specific and I couldn't find any threads about it.  For a quick backgound, my OS is Windows 10 (was Windows 8 prior) and my network adapter is an Intel Centrino N-2230.  I have a Lenovo Y500 laptop and my internet has been having issues. For background, it was working fine until sometime early this year. I got an ethernet cable and mainly relied on that. Whenever I would unplug my ethernet cord, most of the time my internet wouldn't work - the open networks availble shown would just be empty even though all my other devices connected to the internet just fine. I ignored this and continued because I mainly only used it with ethernet anyways, and if I really needed to I could disable and reenable my network adapter to get the internet working (for like 30 seconds before it would often die again).  I'm back home from college now however, and I need a consistent internet. The problem I face now is that when my laptop isn't plugged in, I can't seem to use internet at all (I can do the disable and re-enable technique but it works for like 5 seconds before it stops working again). When my laptop is plugged in, it stays connected to the internet consistently, but the quality of the connection is really inconsistent. For games that I play, every 10 minutes I usually have around 3-4 instances where the ping goes from 20 to like 1000 for 10-15 seconds, sometimes even completely disconectin... Read more

Hello. There is something wrong with my WiFi, everytime I try to use my internet connection to ie. load YouTube movie or any page it takes ages to do so. I have to HLSW installed, it has function to show latency on your connection, whenever I don't do anything it stays around 15-20ms, but strange thing happens if I try to do anything at all that requires internet connection, even loading simple page takes it up to 1500-2000ms. Oh, and there are more CPUs in home network and they are working fine, so it's not internet provider issue. I wasn't like that from beginning, it started couple of days ago, tried reinstalling drivers couple times, tried looking for solution here, couldn't find any, do any of you have any idea what should I do to fix it?

I have been unable to connect to my NAS, a Synology DS216+II.  I've been working with ATT (Router), Synology (NAS), and Microsoft to try and figure out why I can't connect to my NAS while connected to my routers 2.4GHz radio, but can connect through the routers 5.0 GHz radio.  The problem is associated with only one computer a Lenovo T460.  My other computers a Lenovo T520 and a Lenovo T430 will connect to the NAS on either radio, as will my iPhone or ipad.  What I have discovered if I reset the Router (a ARRIS 5268AC - ATT Uverse) I can connect to the NAS via the 2.4GHz radio, if I switch to the 5.0GHz radio the connect works, but if I revert back to the 2.4 GHz radio again I can't reconnect to the NAS? Any ideas?JSR

Try first downloading this into a flash drive: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/IdeaPad-Y-Series-laptops/IdeaPad-Y500-... Then, uninstall your old WLAN drivers. You won't be able to access internet after drivers are uninstalled, so use the file from the flash drive and install it onto your PC. A fresh driver install should do the trick. Hope it helps

Dear Lenovo, It's a request to kindly understand the matter as I had a total frustrating updation procedure from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Home For the updating process I would blame Microsoft and I informed them about the same but than I would like to know that why the Qualcomm A956x Wireless Network does not work with Windows 10,I tried everything possible from downloading the 64 bit drivers and even followed the instructions from Microsoft but nothing of sort has proved to be beneficial as I had to roll back to Windows 8.1 just after 1 day I upgraded to Windows 10 laptop was purchased this year and its not fair that I can't use Windows 10 as the adpater isn't functioning! My PC became quite useless as Lan, Wlan and Ethernet all were missing from the computer but immediately after restoring back to Windows 8.1 everything works perfect

If I touch certain areas such as the back of the screen it drops. Is this a known issue with lenovo laptops in addition to this I experience small amounts of jitter when watching 1080p videos on youtube. I can't ignore these small things and before I return this laptop was wondering if there is a fix or if anyone else has had these problems ? Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo Z510 Weak WIFI Signal & LAG Issue

Dropping WiFi when touching the back of the screen is not normal. It might be that the antenna was torn during the assembly of your laptop and that can explain the sudden loss in signal when you touch the back of the laptop. The jitter issue can be caused by unoptimized display driver or the video is poorly encoded (if certain videos show this jitter). It can also be a refresh rate issue where the display cannot produce smooth frames at 30 fps or 24 fps though this can be fixed with good video codecs. Update to the latest Flash player and latest Intel drivers and see if the jitter issue lessens.

Hey guys, I'd just like to address an issue with my Lenovo Ideapad U350. I had it since Nov 2009, and one major problem I have with it is connecting to WiFi.  The laptop can connect to WiFi only if the WiFi source is super close (like 1 to 12 inches away only). Even if its half a meter away from the WiFI source, it has problems connecting to it. Any solution/s to this?  P.S. I have another laptop and other WiFi-enabled devices which can connect to the WiFi source even at long distances. (Like 10 meters and farther, or even across rooms)...Why do these devices connect to the WiFi seamlessly (even at such long distances) while my Lenovo Ideapad U350 has problems connecting to WiFi even at (somewhat) short distances?  HELP! I have a Lenovo 3000 v200 laptop running Windows XP SP3 (recently downgraded). It is fully updated with all Windows Updates and Lenovo Updates and no changes tohardware has been done. I experience two annoying problems. I have searched the forum thoroughly for answers(many other users seem to suffer from similar problems) but no solution has beenpresented. 1. My wireless connection works 95% of the time without problems. But occationally the wireless fails to initiate when I boot up the PC.Nothing I do will bring the WiFi into operation, only a reboot will solvethe problem. I have tried toying around with the options availablethrough the WiFi software without success. No networks are visibleeven though both the hardware and software WiFi switches are "on".The Device Manager does not indicate anything wrong with the unit.I have seen this message a few times: "The wireless stack failed to initiate".Anyone with a solution for this (excluding reboot, that is) ? 2. Standby does not work. When resuming after a standby some processseem to lock up most of the system resources. One of the processor coresworks at 100% load and the other one is idle. Looking into the Task ManagerI can see several processes competing for the top position in CPU usage.I do not get a clear picture of what process is the problem but I think it is securityrelated. It seems to be a driver problem rather than the result of my software(Firewall, Antivirus...). I assume this since the very same soft... Read more

I recently re-installed XP on an S10e but could not get the WLAN to work. I installed every driver on the lenovo website for the broadcom S series drivers but no success. And then tried again 2 weeks later I then re-formatted and installed Windows Vista but again same issues. SolutionGo to the device manager and select the Details tabMy VEN number was 8086 and DeV number 4327 I then went to http://www.pcidatabase.comentered the details and found that device was an Intel (R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN (according to the chip id)(use the browser find function with the device id number-saves a lot of time going through the list) followed the link to http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx?lang=eng and found the matching device id Wireless Technology >> Intel Centrino WIFI Products >>Intel WIFI Link 5300 and Intel WIFI Link 5100 installed the driver for my operating system and now everything is working 100% It seems that the device id in the BIOS is incorrect or that it really is an Intel and not broadcom chip. I hope this helps the many people that are having the same issue as I had and ends the endless traul on getting the WIFI working again. Good luck and let me know if it work for you

Hi all Thought I would share this after hours of internet searching what my issue could be and finding nothing except "Is your Wifi Enabled?" type responses.  So here is a succcint problem/solution that may work for you too. Problem A couple of week ago, my wifi connection started to be very slow at home and would not connect to public wifi hotspots, such as O2 Cloud.  I did the usual updating drivers etc with no success.  I eventually noticed that the signal bars on the discovered networks were weak and at public hotspots, extremely weak.  Made me think about the wifi antennae inside the laptop... Solution (only proceed if you dont mind your warranty possibly being invalidated, are competant and are fed up with your wifi not working) 1) Turn off laptop. 2) Remove Battery 3) Take the middle panel off the back of the laptop (three small screws out and slide panel forward) 4) The wifi card is the small card near the memory cards.  It SHOULD have two aerials attached via tiny circular connectors.  Mine were both loose. 5) Remove each aerial (remembering which colour cable goes to which connector) and carefully reattach securely.  They just click on.  Make sure cables are not pulling on the connectors or they may pop off again. 6) I then put a piece of electricians tape over the connectors to hold in place and to protect from the cover. 7) Replace cover, battery and hopefully this sorts... So, I have purchased this WLAN card and after the hardware installation BIOS started to display "104-unsupported network device detected" error. Hey guys,

I just got the Lenovo Y500 a few months ago and it came with the Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230.

The WiFi on this laptop kept on disconnecting after a while of use, at first I thought it was the laptop's problem but after I got a replacement because of a depixel on my screen the problem still occurs - the WiFi is unstable sometimes and the connection just disappears. I tried this with other Wifi connections at my University and home and friend's house but it still kept on disconnecting after a while.

Can anyone please give me a solution to this problem? I've already downloaded and installed the latest drivers.

Symptoms of this problem:
1. Disconnects after a while, it shows network available but I cannot connect to them
2. Sometimes, it doesn't show any network (i.e all my WiFi connections are not visible)
3. I cannot restart my WiFi because I go into Windows 8 "Change pc settings" and it says I cannot turn off my WiFi

This problem is really bugging me because every time this happens I have to restart my laptop!

I would really appreciate your help!

There are many possibilities to your problem. To jumpstart, examine the settings of your wifi card (based on recommended setup) and the router's settings. They should match.

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted  the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. All other devices in a house work perfectly fine, my roommates probably already hate me for rebooting the router. Router: Actiontec M1424WR (Verizon FIOS) Other devices which were and still are able maintain connections with this router for many hours w/o similar problem:- my old Dell Latitude E6400- my Samsung Captivate cell phoneand bunch of other HP laptops, macbooks etc. What I tried and what did not help:- rebooting X220- turning X20 off/on- installing the latest drivers for Intel 6205 card for the Intel website- installing/uninstalling Intel Wifi tools and Access Connections- restoring from a backup (not a complete factory setting restore)- setting DNS/IPs manually for IPv4 and turning off IPv6 I tried to collect some logging with netsh tracing and it only tells that the driver disconnects during acquisition. Some clue I dis... Answer:Wifi issue with X220 (intel wifi card); It stops connecting to a router after 3 hours

When it is reproducible in Win 7, went to Ubuntu Live CD and everything works there. So the problem is either inside:- router- Win 7 Intel 6205 drivers including shipped and the latest one  I don't think it is that low level though as I thought, as in Win 7 it tries to reconnect each time disconnecting during "Identifying Network" stage, and setting IP, gateway and DNS manually do not help.  UPDATE: I was able to update Verizon FIOS router to the latest firmware and switched it from WEP to WPA just in case.

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

Answer:Dreaded Win10 WiFi Issue: Can't enable WiFi after Upgrade

I had a similar issue were I was stuck in Aeroplane mode on a cleanly installed W10. Turned out I had to uninstall it from the HID's in Device manager. It's worth checking that he's not stuck in it too. Search for drivers in Windows 7, from the HP website and you'll most likely resolve the issue.

I have issues connecting my Laptop to the Wifi router in my house, however, there are no issues connecting to other routers? You would therefore assume that the issue lies with the router at my house. However, every other device and laptop connects to the router at my house with no issues at all. So it seems to be specific to the combination of my laptop and the router at my house. I have been having these issues ever since I downloaded Windows 10. I fixed it initially by downloading an old driver for the Wifi on my laptop. This fix lasted for about 3 months but since the latest windows update, the issue has come back. The issue is intermittent wifi where it shows I am connected to the Wifi but then the internet doesn't work. It says "DNS probe cannot be found" when running troubleshooter and then it resets the wifi on my laptop. This can temporalily fix it, sometimes for 2 seconds. Sometimes for 2 hours. But then the issue comes back. Does anyone have any clue what the issue might be or how I might fix it? Sometimes, when I run the troubleshooter, it says that I have missing protocols. But then this doesn't happen every time. I have tried a variety of fixes that I have read up on in forums but none seem to work permantly. One thing I haven't tried is a clean install of windows 10 which is something I am very reluctant to do and also, have my doubts as to whether it would actually resolve the issue.
Many thanks,
Joe

Answer:Wifi issue specific to my laptop and home wifi

It all depends on location, location, location. Some Gateways are just garbage. If you are not getting a strong enough signal, get an Access Point. Also you need to make sure that you are not on a congested channel, which is usually Channels 6 & 11 for 2.4 Ghz units.

I have a brand new E520 that will not connect to most websites while using the built in wireless adapter (or any wireless adapter). It only connects to google.com websties.  This is true for iexplorer, firefox, and chrome.  Also, I can ping www.google.com when I use the command line, but if I ping anything else, the request just times out.  If I plug in directly to the router with an ethernet cable, I can access any website with no problem.  Yet, when I am plugged in via ethernet, I still cannot ping other websites (despite being able to access the same ones using a browser). I've tried:-turning off windows firewall-uninstalling norton antivirus (and installing avast)-Installing, and then uninstalling the ThinkVantage wireless managment software (forget the exact name).-using a seperate USB WIFI adapter (with all other network adapters disabled) Still can't get it to work.  Any suggestions?

Hello,I use my laptop mainly as a PC - I got external monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers. However I cannot close the lid of my laptop, because it causes problems with wireless connectivitiy, I mean WiFi. After closing Lid I still have an access to wireless Internet, but from 3-5 to only 2 stripes. Despite that fact websites load VERY LONG (if they finally do), and the only way to work normally is to open the lid. The same problem is on Win Seven either WinXP. Is there a possibility to cope with it? And the second: Do you have also so crappy sliders on the bottom of your laptops? Cause mine doesn't grip laptop properly. When there are is a surface made of wood (lacquered) at the angle of approx. 2-4 degrees my laptop is crawling down.... My firends sitting nearby are laughing Nothing like this happens to them, and they also have Lenovo notebooks - e. g. Y580, Z series or so.

Ok here's the problem, I have a Lenovo Thinkcentre M91p desktop which I was preparing to sell, first thing I wanted to do was to erase contents of hard drive first by using Derik's Drive Nuker disc however the problem started when the PC starts it doesn't show the "Lenovo" logo splash screen with the F-12 option to access BIOS, I needed to access bios so I can reboot with the dban disc to erase the hard drive when that option was not available I opened up "msconfig" and made the mistake of changing the system configuration from "Normal start up" to " Selective Startup" with only the " Use original boot configuration" option checked because I thought that would show me the splash screen on start up but, that wasn't the case.  After I did that and restarted the PC everything was horrible, not only wasn't I able to see the splash screen but, also Windows wouldn't even load.  On start up the PC doesn't show the Lenovo logo splash window, it goes straight to windows but it only shows the pre-screen that pops up before the log-in screen, the one with the background image and the time on the lower left but, that's it....if I click on that window instead of showing me the log-in window where I'm supposed to enter my password it only shows a blue screen.  Now I can't access BIOS to fix anything nor get into Windows.  I need help please! Any suggestions will be helpfu... Read more

hey just bought a u460 and having big trouble.i am not sure if this is linked but i installed tuneup utilities and it made some modifications.after a system restart the screen res snapped to 800x600, with max option of 1024x768, meaning the native res does not appear as an option. i noticed the screen name changed to default monitor, and if im not mistaken the computer is a bit slower now (this is an i5 core) and i will notice latencies of all kinds when opening and minimizing windows. additionally the button to switch to nvidia graphics doesnt work (the rest do). device manger says cant load intel graphics driver.that's not all folks, i closed the laptop and put it in my bag only to find a half hr later it was burning up (could barely touch it). i have tried system restore as well as one key restore, the one key restore worked well but after a restart or two it snapped back to the same problems. please help i am furious!

Answer:U460 Drivers.

Get:- Intel Chipset driver - from www.Intel.com site.- Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from www.realtek.com.tw site.- Intel Management Engine Interface driver - www.Intel.com- Intel Rapid Storage Technology - www.Intel.com- Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver from www.Intel.com siteor- nVidia Drivers from www.nvidia.com- Atheros Communications AR81Family Gigabit/Fast Ethernet Driver from www.station-drivers.com- Wireless LAN Driver - www.station-drivers.com- and so on...its not that hard..Mostly , you can get any driver you need (except symbiotic drivers) from manufacturer sites.Personally, i advice you to get it all from www.station-drivers.com as they have always fresh drivers on any kind of hardware, download is free and do not contain any viruses.Of course, such things as Lenovo Energy Management Driver and any stuff which has "Lenovo" in name you ve gotta get it from lenovo support page. Also, you ve gotta understand, by downloading drivers directly from manufactures, you can loose some effects or additions provided by Lenovo Directly within their download page. One more thing: There is a nice app, called "Driver Genius Pro". Once you ve installed all the drivers, you can backup it all into one single exe file,so if you ll reinstall the system, you just have to launch your package instead long and boring routine of installing all again and multiply rebooting. App is shareware.

Question: U460 can't boot up

I can't boot up the laptop. Its only 5 months since I bought its and seldom used. Here's the scenario. I click on the power button, then the top right 3 icons light up. The next moment, I hear a "tick" sound, and the laptop shuts off. This happens with/ without the battery + the charger. But with the battery, after plugging in/out the charger and starting it up multiple times. I manage to get it to boot up, and the system runs as per normal. Restarting it works fine as well. Once I shutdown the laptop, remove the charger, after sometime.. the same problem comes back again. Its not the battery because its fully charged when I manage to boot it up. Any idea what's happening?

Answer:U460 can't boot up

try to perform clean windows installation first. check download page for bios updates.
if windows loads, try to use disk check for errors. also, do not forget to check system logs for errors.
( right click my computer > manage > event logs )

post back the results.
if issue persists, you may have power or hard disk issue.i suggest you to call support line.

Question: U460 i5-460 BIOS

Just got my U460 i5-460 the other day and so far it's been great.  It squirreled out once when coming out of the sleep mode, but hasn?t done it again. The first time I went into the BIOS on my U460-087725U (i5-460) it allowed me to configure the warning temps and shutdown temps for the unit.  Now when I F2 back into the BIOS those options are no longer available. Is there a special key sequence I need to press to make these settings available again?  Does Lenovo have a utility, dear I say - like Acer, that provides the PC owner with a list of availble updates... including BIOS updates? Thanks!

Answer:U460 i5-460 BIOS

Seriously, did I dream changing these settings in the BIOS??? I just want to know how to get back into those options.  Is there a diagnosic mode that I can activate?

http://imgur.com/mSaIOuCThis happens on my computer whenever my laptop is at a certain angle. I found out that this is a hardware issue, and not a software issue, but I couldn't find the exact case. How should I fix it?

Answer:Lenovo X240 Screen glitch (hardware issue, not software issue)

The panel is failing. I believe the column drivers' contact tape has delaminated. It is a tape with one contact per LCD column (768) that runs along the edge of the screen

Does Lenovo test the drivers they release any more? I just updated the touchpad driver today and the two finger scrolling is locked to the same setting whether you pick Traditional or Standard in the setting menu. Latest Intel Graphics Driver Lenovo released causes Youtube video to freeze in Chrome and they still haven't released an update even though Intel already did. My X1 Carbon 3rd gen has screen flicker/freeze issue after waking up from sleep. I submitted a ticket a week ago and hear absolutely nothing. According to other member, even replacing motherboard doesn't fix it. I am really started to regret my purchase.

I received my U460 a couple of days ago and I cannot get the webcam to work, at the bottom is the error I keep receiving in Youcam, I have gone in Settings and selected Lenovo Easy Camera, and no I don't have any other programs opened using The webcam. I have tried  pushing function + esc, camera is on. Mic works fine. I have tried reinstalling the Web Cam Driver, YouCam Software, then eventually did a System Restore. Then tried it in Skype, MSN Messenger. No Luck. I have wasted so much time on this. Any help would be appreciated.WarningYouCam cannot connect to your webcam ( Lenovo EasyCamera ). Try selecting another capture device within settings, or close any applications that may be using this webcam and then restart YouCam.

Answer:Cannot Get U460 Webcam To Work!!! Help Please!!!

I have also gone in Device Manager and tried updating the driver. It says it us up to date.  I uninstalled the driver, and restarted my computer. Windows automatically installed the driver. Still didn't work. After selecting the Lenovo EasyCamera in YouCam, the white light turns on at the top. You cam window shows CYBERLINK YOUCAM with blue/black background.  Webcam still doesn't work. Anybody else having same problems?  I give up. I am going to try and call Tech Support tomorrow. Any help from anybody would be appreciated.
