Preferred Solution: Lenovo U310 Speakers not working...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,The integrated SD card reader of my Lenovo U310 used to work fine until a couple of months ago. However, now it does not read SDHC cards (it used to read them)! It reads fine standard SD cards, and also micro SDHC cards (using their adapter of course). My girlfriend owns my same laptop and she has no problem at all! Her laptop has always read fine SDHC cards. The device manager recognizes the SDHC card and if I go to ?my pc? I cannot see it there unless I tick the ?Hidden Items?. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the driversDownload and install the official ?Alcor CardReader Driver? from the official Lenovo U310 support pageComparing the drivers the computer uses with the drivers on my girlfriend computer and they are identical!!Change the drive letter from disk managementFormat and re-installed Windows 8.1 64bitsNothing helped! Please note that if I uninstall the drivers and re-insert the SDHC card, the computer plays the sound and install the drivers, but the card remains not accessible. Pictures here:1. 2. 3. 4. Is anybody able to help me? Thank you, Andrea

Answer:SDHC cards not working anymore on Lenovo U310

First, make sure that it is the SD card's fault. Try using another computer to view the files. If it works then, make sure the port isn't blocked in the Y50. The partitions could have also been messed up, so you can try using a partition manager to check.

Also on plugging the headphones sound seems to be coming only from the left and not in the right . Its almost an identical issue to one posted a while back ... Just a few days ago, the speakers (and subwoofer) of my lenovo y50 suddenly stopped working. I've already tried some fixes, including input options in the realtek audio manager. Sound coming trough the headphone jack still works though, but since the speaker malfunction it has an irritating white noise. Anyone who also has this problem or knows the fix?

A couple of days ago I pulled a jack plug from the head phone input and I believe it broke the mechanism that detects whether a jack plug is inserted. The result is that I can't get sound from the laptop speakers when there is no jack plug in the head phone input. The sound works perfectly fine though headphones, drivers have been updated, and the problem also occurs when I run a fresh install of Ubuntu, so I think it's safe to say that it's not a software issue, but a hardware issue. However, a different hardware issue than the broken jack detection mechanism is also a probable cause.  Lenovo suggests to fix hardware issues like this through inspecting the hardware or sending it out f.... However, I don't feel like hardware editing (yet) nor sending my laptop away for weeks for repair. Given that it is indeed the broken jack plug detection mechanism, I was hoping to find a solution through some adjustments in software. For instance, this problem can be fixed for RealTek sound cards by going into the registry (at least for Windows 7) and set the registry value ForceDetectionJD to 00. This registry value can be found at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ControlClass\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001\SettingsHowever, Lenovo comes with Conexant audio hardware that doesn't have such registry key. This topic seems to show a way for non-RealTek sound cards, but unfortunately this didn't work for me either. Perhaps there is a Conexan... Read more

For several last days, I have a strange behavior of speakers and microphone in my t470p. For most of the time they are unavailable in both Linux or Windows OS. However, where I'm doing little push on screen backward (like adjusting screen little bit), both microphone and speaker start working and become available. After I stop adjusting screen (making push backward) device become unavailable again. I'm sure that it is some kind of hardware problem and it should be easy fixing (like some connector is not attached properly inside LCD panel), but according to maintenance manual, I do not see any wires related to speakers or sound card going inside LCD panel. Can anybody advise how to fix such behavior?

Hi, I am using Lenovo G460 since 2 years and I am unable to hear from internal speakers, but I connected headphones or external speakers it's working fine. anybody can tell the problem

Answer:my lenovo g460 internal speakers are not working

hi arjunkanda,

Can you try Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Audio Driver,

Open Device Manager and look under sound and gaming controller for WIN7 and Audio input for WIN8/8.1
Look for something says Conexant, and uninstall it.
Place a check if you're prompted of "Delete driver software for this device"

Then install a audio driver from this download link of your system and install it.
      http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT072732

See if that works,
If not then, Im thinking a connection problem of the Speakers,

You can check your system's  Maintenance Manual to check on how to get access to the speaker cables connecting to the Mainboard on page (52).

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi I have a Lenovo W500 4062-5YG... O/S: Win 7 Pro My sound device is a Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD. The problem is, that the internal speakers have stopped working all of a sudden... I think it is a hardware problem since when I hookup external speakers or headphones they produce sound... but I am no expert! I have done the following to try and fix it: Disable, then enable audio driversUinstall, then install audio driversSetting the internal speakers as the default speaker sourceRestoring the system to an earlier day (where I knew that the speakers had functioned)None of these actions have worked. I actually thought I could perform a hardware test on the speakers in the "Lenovo Solution Center"... but it doesn't seem like it:-( So... How can I know for sure whether it is a hardware or software problem? And more importantly - How can I get my internal speakers to work? Any help is appreciated. CheersPhilip

Answer:Internal speakers have stopped working (Lenovo W500 with Win 7 Pro)

Hello Philip,

As mentioned in your post, you have performed all the major troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. I suggest you to update your BIOS also in order to resolve your issue. You can download and update the BIOS update utility from the below mentioned web link.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_SG/downloads/default.page?

Kindly click on Quick path and put your 7 Digit TYPE-Model number(40625YG) in the box and then click on the Find My Product. Please click on BIOS and then download the BIOS update utility according to your Operating System. It might resolve your issue. If it will also not work then it seem to be an issue with hardware. Kindly get in touch with the support centre they will assist you and try to resolve the issue.

Regards,
Harish

Hi!Lenovo TP T500, Win7Pro 32. There was a problem with the integrated speakers. Yesterday worked fine. Then, after a conversation on Skype through a wired headset from the integrated speakers sound stopped going. Through headphones the sound is fine. All tests are integrated speakers through the control panel are normal, no errors shown. But the sound of them is not. That is, I have created the absolute impression that the laptop "thinks" as if the headset is still activated. What will advise?

Make sure if you haven't done so already to press and hold (for a few seconds) the volume UP button on the top row of the keyboard.  It's usually pretty close to the blue ThinkVantage butoon.

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place.

I had a set of GE 2.1 speakers working well with my Sony Vaio for about a year. Recently the sound started to go in & out, I had to move the wire around a lot and tape it or hold it in a certain spot to get them to work. Then one day they stopped working altogether. Assuming it was the speakers, I went and bought a new set from Best Buy. Took them home, plugged them in... and nothing, nothing at all. So I tried the OLD speakers in another desktop computer, and they worked perfectly.

So I assumed my headphone jack was broken and was going to go about trying to get a new piece and solder it and all that, but then I'm sitting here and just realized my headphones work perfectly.

What's wrong? How come the headphones work, but 2 pairs of external speakers don't?

Thanks so much

Jillian

Hi, I bought a U310 in the colour blossom cherry pink, because it was a very very good price. But I don't like the colour, I'm a male So, does anybody have an idea, how to solve that problem? Is a change of the cover possible? Or exist hard cases like for the MacBooks, to hide the Cover? Thanks a lot!Cheers!

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad U310

hi MagicMan,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you want to change the pink design at the back of the LCD, you can::

1. Replace it with a laptop skin via schtickers or similar (most cost effective way)
2. Have the LCD Cover replaced with a different color at a local repair store (will cost you parts and labor).
  Spoiler (Highlight to read)
I don't recommend getting a hard case for the Lenovo U310 as it might increase heat build-up.

Hope this helps.

Hello!

I've been having trouble with my Lenovo Ideapad U310 (running Windows 8.1) for quite some time now. Generally, it occurs once I try to reawaken the laptop after having had it on Sleep mode - the laptop freezes and then eventually the blue screen of death appears. I've been reading around the subject ever since it began, and I've tried enabling a hybrid sleep but no luck! I've tried updating all drivers but Lenovo is, quite franky, a bit rubbish at this. The error makes it a real pain to use my laptop at university etc, so I'm hoping someone can interpret the attached dump files for me!! I've only attached the last two but if you think more are needed, please let me know, as well as any other system details! ]

Cheers xo

Hello,is the Lenovo U310 supposed to have bluetooth built-in? Is it missing from my unit, or was the store's specification invalid?

Hello TnB!

There are some models of U310 which are bluetooth enabled (it is an option - please refer to Hardware Maintenance Manual (page 28) )

From the User Guide, (page 20):

You can also try to press F7 to see if it works.

Answer:lenovo u310 touch ssd

hi michaelmike121,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The SSD on your system isconfigured as cache drive.

Due to the size of the SSD (small capacity)
Using it as a Storage drive may not be efficient that's why it is used and set up as a cached Drive.
The Intel Rapid Storage Technology is an SSD caching with Raid Set up (Since Your system is not Raid set up this uses the same but a different caching program Express Cache.)

To verify that your system is on caching Open a Command Prompt Administrator.
and Type in eccmd-info (This is a comand for your caching Software "ExpressCache" this will call the details of the caching and how it is doing)

a result like this should prove that the caching is working

"Cache Read Percent : x.xx%" (where x.xx% is some actual percentage)"Cache Write Percent : x.xx%" (where x.xx& is some actual percentage)

Hope this helps
Cheers!

My battery gauge says it's 90% and charging, and doesn't charge any further. I noticed that, when I had the Lenovo Energy Management thing installed it had a battery gauge reset, but when I ran it it gave no indication that it was even doing anything, so IDK what's up with that.

I've recently brought my Lenovo to a local computer shop to have the older 500gb hard drive replaced with a new Samsung 256gb SSD pro.  Everything was done, brought it back home went into the bios and noticed that the SATA controller is in compability mode.  My thought was, shouldn't it be in AHCI mode to take advantage of the SSD.  Ran some SSD benchmark and noticed that the score was a lot lower than exected. So I brought it back to the computer shop and ask them to set it in ACHI mode.  Windows started to boot, then it immediately got a blue screen.  The tech then said that the system was not designed to run the new SSD in AHCI mode simply because the system is only SATA2 and also there is a mSATA installed.  Is this technician right?  I find it hard to believe that this system is only SATA2 and it's not possible to run the new Samsung 256gb SSD in ACHI mode along with the mSATA installed.

Can you try Booting into Safemode once you changed it to AHCI
If the system Boots up in Safemode without the BSOD

Shut it down then Boot to Normal Mode and it should work then without the Bluescreen error.

Hey, So I've had my u310 for about 2 months now, and it has already been in the shop for 2 weeks. Originally, I was working on it and I had to restart and when it went to boot back up, it said there was a i/o error or something. I managed to boot from linux on a thumbdrive and recover a few files. At this point, the One Key Recovery file was already corrupted. So I had to send it in to get it fixed. They ended up replacing the hard drive. Within 48 hours of getting it back, I had reimaged it 3 times. I am still trying to get a lock on what is causing these problems. I thought it was windows updates, then I thought it could have been Visual Studio 2010(thats still a possibility, but I don't know why it would do that).  The iRST status on the SSD is set to Invalid so I don't know if thats a part of it, but what ever it is, I have NOT been pleased with my support experience thus far.  Usually when it gets corrupted(since it got back), I'll be doing something (installing), and I'll restart and poof no operating system can be found. My recovery files are still perfectly intact, but no operating system. I am wondering if the SSD could be bad too... Any thoughts?

Hi all, I just purchased a Lenvo u310 touch screen ultrabook and on the third day of use have begun to notice connection issues. From my room, I get download speeds of less that 1 mbps. I used to get much higher with my old laptop. Also, when i have my u310 resting flat on my lap, the internet speeds decrease significantly even when I am very close to my router. However, when I lift the laptop up, the connection immediatley strengthens. WiFi Status: resting on lap: 5mbps held up: 54mbps Can anyone explain why there are these issues because the only other posts I have seen were from last year and Lenovo claimed those issues were fixed. Thanks

I'm really upset of how Lenovo handles our update compatibility for Windows 10.
It's clear that model U310 is not upgradable but not why... There is no direct explanation on a particular model and which are the components that are not supported and why. Just a bunch of "possible" problems you may have/afford.
Unfortunately I've already upgraded my machine and right now, WiFi is not working (it's listed under the possible failures). Everything else is OK.
This leads me to the idea that problems are minor and that Lenovo should do domething so as we can keep our HW updated.
Are they working in any way like that? Are they developing new drivers?
I would like to have an authorized opinion on this matter to evaluate how Lenovo is trying to protect my HW investment.
Oh, and don't tell me it's a Microsoft problem... it's Lenovo's also.

PS: My laptop run previously a HW compatibility test from Windows 10 installation saying all components were OK.

Hi all, I have a u310 Touch that had Windows 8 preinstalled. I have the recovery USB that was created when I bought the computer. I had wiped the drives and installed Ubuntu. I have since erased Ubuntu and want to restore to Win8. Both the 25GB SSD and 500GB HDD are blank and unallocated at the moment. There are no recovery partitions, just two blank unallocated drives. The recovery media will not let me restore, since it can't find the system drive. Wondering what to do next? Thanks in advance!

Lenovo IdeaPad U310 with i5-3317u. In specification is written that AES New Instructions is present ( http://ark.intel.com/products/65707/intel-core-i5-3317u-processor-3m-cache-up-to-2_60-ghz ). But in my ultrabook aes-ni not found. Tested on TrueCrypt , CPU-Z, Intel® Processor Identification Utility, on linux watched /proc/cpuinfo. Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Unlock AES-NI

I know that in order to unlock the AES must write a zero to the register MSR [0x13C], but the write to this register is locked by bios. I tested this from Windows kernel mode driver. In another the same ultrabook (BIOS Version: 65CN21WW Release Date: 12/26/2012) AES enabled.

anyone have answers? i tried draining the battery via the energy managemtn program but it stops at 91%. edit: i uninstalled the energy management program and it says "charging" now. i'll have to see if it goes beyond 91%.  ok, it still doesn't charge but at least it says so now.. probably hardware failure. i've only had this laptop for 3 months or so.

Answer:Lenovo U310 battery only maxes out at 91%

Hi mrrunon,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your U310 Laptop is charging till 91% and getting stuck, please install the LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) in the computer. By choosing the (Optimized Battery Health) in LEM, the Battery charges only to certain percentage and stops charging. Now battery takes its power from the charger, so if you want to charge the battery to 100%, you need to choose (Maximum Battery Life) option in LEM.

Hope this helps!!!

I have a Lenovo U310 Touch that came from the store with Windows 8.1 on it. I need to install Hyper-V and that requires 8.1 Pro.

I have a product key from my MSDN subscription for 8.1 Pro and attempted to use the "Add Features" program from the system screen to upgrade. It takes the code, validates it as ok, goes through some downloading and other stuff then reboots the system. When it comes back up after the reboot it states "Couldn't add features" along with a contact Microsoft Support link.

I looked around and can't find a log file or any error codes that I could post here, if anyone knows where it is I'll be happy to post anything I find.

I tried contacting support, but the two different people I talked to just walked me through the same process to then punting to another person who ran me through the same and came to the conclusion "can't help you".

I've done this on 2 desktop machines to enable Hyper-V with no issues but for some reason this doesn't work on this "Ultrabook".

I've tried this on a hard network connection and on a wireless connection to see if anything changed. Still broke both ways.

The machine does have 2 drives in it, one 20GB SSD for recovery and recovery drivers and the primary drive. I've read where there may be files mapped on that drive that are causing problems, but have no clue how to actually find these and move them.

Any ideas?

I purchased my Lenovo U310 Ultrabook in early Janruary of 2013. The build date is Oct. 27, 2012. Since the day I bought this item the Wifi has randomly dropped out. When the WIfi drops out, often I'll still be able to see the network and it shows that it has a good signal, but time and again is unable to connect to it.  I figured a patch would be put out for this issue, as many other customers seemed to be complaining of it as well. Though the speeds are sufficient for my needs and I haven't exactly noticed the same issues that other cutomers are complaining about, it has gotten progressively aggravating to have to restart my computer each time the wifi decides to disconnect itself and not re-connect. I've tried installing the latest drivers on multiple occasions, each time to no avail. The problem persists and I haven't found anything that has worked. I have tried disabling the 802.11n, maxing out the transmitting power (5), and updating the drivers. I called the tech-support line but they wanted to charge me $100 to fix this known 'software' problem. I have a hard time believing that so many intelligent Lenovo buyers have been thwarted by a 'known software problem' that is easily fixed over the phone. If I'm wrong I'll happily eat my words, but I suspect that won't have to happen. The various WiFi connections I've used have all been strong and stable, and don't drop out on other laptops or my HTC Evo 4G LTE. It's clearly the computer that is the culprit. Any help is ap... Answer:Lenovo U310 Wifi Randomly Drops Out

I also have a U310 ultrabook and have the exact same problem, Wifi connectivity to my home network has been very sporadic, drops in and out, etc. I have other devices connected to the same home network at the same time (iPhone, iPad, a Nexus 4, and a laptop) and I do not experience the Wifi issues at all (i.e. it is not the modem/router, firewall, etc.). This must be a U310 problem, either hardware, firmware or driver. Just to give you a heads up, Wifi connectivity is not the only problem I have had with my U310 ultrabook, wait until you experience the long shut down (if at all) and long boot time.

Hi there! I'm sitting here with my U310 I have bought for approx 1 year ago. When I bought it Windows 8 was installed but through the normal Windows Update procedures Windows 8.1 was installed within a couple of months.Due to the fact that I am a IT professional I updated all the drivers to a Windows 8.1 64 bit version (downloads all from this site) and everything works as it is supposed to - except the sleep functionality. After I put the computer into sleep mode and then tries to start it again (lift screen or push power button) it starts but freeses before I can enter the password for the user. Then it takes 2-4 min. before it enters a nice BSOD. Now I have read all the comments in this support site and as I can figure out it is something with drivers. Just today I have downloaded the latest drivers - installed them - with no luck. Same issue. The computer is reinstalled last week due to some other issues with the harddrive (bad spots that now are disabled through chkdsk). No errors in Windows logs.No yellow ? in Device Manager. Any comment on this will be appresiated - I really HOPE to get some response from someone.  Best Regards MogensDenmark

Answer:Lenovo U310 DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD after sleep

hi Mogens,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Just to check, if you perform a clean boot, do you still get the BSOD?

If the BSOD persists, you may need to dig deep and find out what's causing the error thru the following:

1. Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable (works with Win7/Win8/8.1)
2. If the machine goes into a BSOD, try to read the dump file to see what caused the crash or you can post the dump file here for analysis - file is usually at C:\windows\memory.dmp

How to solve Windows 8 crashes in less than a minute

As for the HDD having a bad sectors, have you considered replacing this drive?

Also, If you have hybrid sleep enabled, this usually creates a hiberfil.sys (hibernation partition) into the drive and system calls this file to resume Windows. If the file is located in a bad block on the HDD, you may not be able to resume Windows, thus, may cause the BSOD. This is also the case if you have an HDD+mSATA SSD configuration (the hiberfil.sys is saved on the SSD via Intel Rapid Start Technology).

Hi All, My Lenovo U310 Ideapad Has been Having speaker problems, The Headphones are working fine but the Inbuilt speakers that are Awefully situated inbetween the hinge and the base of the Screen aren't working. First i thought that this was a issue with the headphone jack assembly that might have cut off the internal speaker circuit due to improper removal of the headphone jack but thats not true because I noticed that Its an Issue with the angle I keep my Screen's tilt. On moving the screen to any angle above 90 or 100 degrees the speakers get cut of and are activated once its below 80 degrees. I am a bit worried any words on that????? regards, raisedadead. THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE!!!

After I power up my laptop and its been on for around 20 minutes the screen starts going nuts.  You can see bubbles where it looks like someone is touching the screen.  Web pages open, enlarge, close, etc... Wondering if anyone else has seen something like this. Also, I contacted Lenovo to fix wifi card and even though there is a class action suit forcing them to fix it they say that since it was purchased 2 weeks over the 1 year warranty the will not fix it until the class action suit deadline of September 2015. This is my last Lenovo product ever.  Never witnessed worse customer service in my life!

I bought the U310 refurbished from Lenovo. I have sent this into them twice now, once to replace the mother board and once to replace the hard drive I believe. I don't understand, it will work fine for 5 minutes and than it will start freezing up and the cursor will just spin saying "so and so" not responding. I am fit to be tied and I just want this thing to work correctly. I took it to my local computer shop but if they open it than it voids the 12 month warranty so they do recommend me dealing directly with Lenovo.  Lenovo has been great about picking up all expenses including shipping but now I am starting to get beyond mad about this machine not working correctly. HELP, HELP, HELP PLEASE!

Answer:Lenovo U310 Touch constanty freezes up

hi mattstilwell5,

Welcome to the Forums.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Just to verify, is the system configured with an 500GB+24GB or 32GB SSD drive?

If it is, then you may want to look into the following:
1. Check if data caching is working (the mSATA SSD is used as a cache drive for frequently accessed files).

   - If the machine is using Diskeeper's Expresscache, type  eccmd -info on an elevated command prompt. It should show a result similar to this picture.
   - If nothing happens after typing the command, open Control Panel > Programs and uninstall Expresscache. Reboot the machine and observe.

Note:
Uninstalling the Expresscache software will remove the data caching feature, however, you may re-install it using this guide.

2. Run an error scan on the HDD/SSD drive (i.e. by using HD Tune) to verify its stability.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

Hi,

Sorry for the vague title, but I can't spot any pattern as to what apps/timing is triggering it. It happens pretty frequently, sometimes after 5 mins, sometimes lasts a few hours. I've attached the logs as per the thread,

Thanks in advance for your help!

So I have looked everywhere for an answer to this and have had no luck. I'm a college student and use my U310 for studying; usually for extended periods of time. My concern is with the battery and charging it. Is it bad to leave it plugged in at 100% while I am using it for several hours to study? I want to make sure I properly take care of this ultrabook and don't destroy the life of the battery. If I could take it out easily, I would. But the casing on this device make it rather difficult to do on a semi-regular basis. So essentially what I would like to know: Is it better to leave it plugged in for several hours (5-7 hours) at 100% charge while I use it for studying, or is it better to unplug once it hits 100% and replug it in as needed? Is one better to do than the other, or is one more damaging than another? I would really appreciate some clarity, thank you!

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad U310 - Battery Concerns

Dear chellein92 Welcome to Lenovo forums There is a software provided from Lenovo called Energy management that controls the battery charging modesBasically there is two modes.the first mode allows the battery to charge up to 80% only while the charger is connected and will start charging when the battery hits 20% charge this modes helps to perverse the battery life the second mode will let the batteryt o charge till 100 % and will keep charging if the battery dropped less than that the program is supposed to be preloaded onto your machine if it is not, please inform me about the OS that you have and i will give you the download link Thanks

Hi All. I try to connect second monitor (NEC MultiSync EA232WMi) via DisplayPort to my Lenovo U310 HDMI port and it didn't work. The only I can see is a black screen on NEC and nothing more. I tried Fn+F10 to select output mode and standard Windows 7 resolution settings. Maybe I should use HDMI-DVI instead of HDMI-DisplayPort cable or need to install additional drivers? Can anybody help with it? Thanks in advance!

I have a U310 and when I turn it on, everything starts up, the lights come on, the fan the USB ports are live but the system does not always POST..no splash screen etc...after repeated attempts I can usually get it to start up OK. Once it is up and running.. it is just fine. Stays running for hours, all night if necessary. I cannot believe there is too much wrong with it if it can do this. Any suggestions...I have tried a few things..battery removla and replacement etc....I have it plugged in to external power supply which seems to be working just fine. Any suggestions??

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad U310 will not always POST or turn on

Could you try turning off the fast startup. You can realize this from Power options -> Choose what the power button does -> Change settings that are currently unavailable. After the last option at the bottom you will find "Turn on fast startup" disable it and test it again

Hey guys, so I'm trying to watch a video on my laptop on my television. My laptop is a Lenovo U310 and my TV is a Panasonic Viera with dual-HDMI plug-ins. I've watched videos on how to connect them, but it won't register under HDMI 1 or 2 on my input selection for my TV. When I have it plugged into my laptop, my laptop shows that it's plugged in under the display options and I will hit duplicate screen or second screen only, but my TV still won't display the HDMI options.Normally I have a Toshiba Smarthub Blu-Ray player on HDMI 1 which works perfectly so I thought maybe the HDMI 2 port was a bust, but it works on HDMI 2 as well.I just can't seem to get the TV to accept it as an HDMI input for some reason. Also, I did adjust my screen through all the options thinking maybe it doesn't support my 1366x768, but that did nothing as well. Any ideas?

Hi, I recently had to reformat the Lenovo U310 Hard drives. I used One Key Recovery to reinstall the operating system. When I tried to reenable the SSD caching feature using the Intel Rapid Start Technology tool, the tool didn't indicate that the hard drive was being accellerated again. When I went into the BIOS to check for problems under the Intel Rapid Start Technology section I see "iRST Status Invalid". It seems like Lenovo has decieded not to implement Intels technology to spec, and to do its own proprietary implementation. The problem is, there is no way for the user to repartition the SSD! So you have to pay lenovo 90 dollars to buy the factory image... This is an outrage to me, when I see features advertised like using the SSD to accellerate the main hard drive I assume this is something that can easily be enabled by the user.  I really hope Lenovo provides a free way of setting up the SSD, otherwise I will never buy Lenovo again. I advise anyone to avoid purchasing this Laptop unless you are comfortable paying 90 dollars just to reset your machine to its advertised features... If anyone can help me with this problem it is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo U310 Cache SSD is not user formattable!

You really have to pay $90 for the factory image?  So are you saying... I can't do this unless I send it in?

So I have a Lenovo u310 touch laptop that I posted about previously. I bought a new hinge and I carried it to the shop to get it replaced as I am in jamaica away from licensed Lenovo repairs plus my warranty ended. Problem is I've realized that there must be two models of this laptop. One where the bezel can be pried off and one where it can't. In mine the screen and bezel is one and the repair man isn't sure how to pull the screen to show the hinge. Is it a case where the whole top half has to be replaced or there is a way to open the top half, remove the old hinges and install the new ones without destroying the digitizer. Please help ASAP because to replace the whole top half would be out of my budget right now

Answer:Lenovo u310 touch hinge issues

Unfortunately I was unable to locate any documentation or instructional videos on disassembling the lid of your model.  I did find a Lenovo Training Video on the U330 Touch model which might give your repair person an idea on how the lid is assembled if Lenovo used the similar design on the U310 Touch.  Here is a link to that video and the topic would be LCD, LCD Removal.........

I purchased a new U310 near the end of August this year, using it primarily to bring with me to school.  However, I've been having a problem with the LCD screen backlight.  Typically, when the computer starts up, the backlight will be working fine.  However, once the computer goes into powersave mode and shuts the display off, often the backlight to the display will not turn on again regardless of if I press keys or the touchpad.  These are some things I've noticed: The display IS still on.  I can still very faintly make out the desktop and use the system, but the backlight is off completelyThis issue does not happen all of the time, but is still quite frequentSometimes putting the computer to sleep and then waking it solves the problem, but not all of the timeSometimes the backlight remains off even after a forced power off (holding down the power button), but typically a restart solves the problem and enables the backlight againAdjusting screen brightness has no effectThis happens regardless of the battery level and whether or not the system is plugged inAlthough this issue has seemed more prevalent recently, it even happened on the day I bought the laptop, but I just wasn't yet aware it was a reoccurring issueI've been able to recreate this issue, in fact I was just able to make it happen twice in a row.  First time the display went off and didn't turn back on, I restarted.  This even repeated the next time the display went into... Just went to use the system and it did it again, pointing out something I forgot to mention. After the display shuts off for powersave mode, and I go to turn it back on again (by pressing a key or the touchpad) the backlight typically turns on for about one second (I can see my desktop with the correct brightness) then shuts off completely (very barely visible desktop).

Hello, I just received my new IdeaPad U310 Ultrabook, which comes with two drives, one HDD of 500 GB and one SSD of 32 GB. I can see these two drives from the BIOS. But with the files explorer, there are two drives, which do no correspond to the two physical drive. One drive C: come with 420 GB and a drive D with 25 GB. The OS (Win 7) is located on the 420 GB drive, and the applications on the D drive with 25 GB. I would like to know on which drive do I have to install the new applications (Office,...) in order to optimize access time to the drive.Somebody could post a message explaining why Lenovo has "merge" the 2 drives,. I though that the OS should be on the SSD drive and applications and data on the HDD drive. But I am very confused. Thanks for clarifications! Antoine

Answer:Hard drives with Lenovo U310 Ultrabook

They are not merged. The 32gb msata is used as cache and thus not visible in explorer. The other 500gb disk is partitioned/split for safety purposes. Backup/installation files are probably stored on one of them. You can see the details in windows disk management. So, just install new apps to your main drive.

If anyone can help me I have a Lenovo u310 and I have been on the same screen for 8 hours now. [Repairing disk errors. This may take over an hour to complete] like I said it has been 8... But I noticed that I had a trojan virus so I did a restore a fresh W8 and it completed and never worked I got stuck on a black screen well I started last night after work and about 11mins it went thru some screens and it has been on this screen for the longest of time... Should I reset or leave it alone?

Answer:Lenovo u310 has been on repairing disk errors

Hi Killerjosh122,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

A Disk repair will take time depending on its size and amount of damage it has, But 8 hours i think is too long.
Given that after the recovery you still have the same problem with Repiring disk.
I think you should set a test to the HDD and see if it needs replacement.

You can try the bootable https://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Set it to a USB Flash drive, Guide here
Perform the HDD tests and Check if the Drive for any errors.

Should the drive failed the test, I strongly suggest you call Lenovo Technical Team for Hardware assistance.

Hello,I only recently noticed, going through the forums, that there is a recommended BIOS update for those who want to upgrade to Windows 8.But I've already installed Windows 8 some 3 weeks ago.Given that the post recommending the BIOS update was written by Lenovo worker, I'd like to perform the update. But the download page of update utility says it's only for Windows 7/XP. And because of the fact that it's not that difficult to break something with updating BIOS through the OS, I'd rather ask first - is it safe to perform BIOS update from Windows 8?

My HDD is on the way out so I created a bootable DVD via EaseUS Todo Backup and tried but was not successful in booting it.  I didn't know why but I had the option to create a USB thumb drive from EaseUS so I did and had much better luck with that.  I then created a system backup. In the meantime, having a "solid" method to restore my data, I contacted Lenovo about the HDD issue.  They were extremely helpful and sent me a replacement drive which included four recovery disks but, for the freaking life of me, I cannot get it to boot up the restore DVD.  The DVD boots in my other computers and I can connect the USB DVD to my other computer and boot it up that way.  I just can't get the dang U310 to boot it up. So I thought I'd restore with the EaseUS system backup and was able to boot it up and perform a restore but when I was done the laptop kept displaying a cute little error about how something went horribly wrong and it reboots again.  Eventually it comes to another less cute screen that basically says I'm screwed. And finally the questions, does anybody know what hoops I need to jump through to get the U310 to boot a DVD?  Alternatively, does anyone know how I can get I can transfer the recovery boot disk to a thumb drive?  I really, really don't want to send it to Lenovo as it's actually my daughters laptop that she needs for college.

Answer:U310 will not boot recovery disk using Lenovo USB DVD drive

I'm not sure if your bios has the legacy boot option. If it has enable it and this should let you boot your dvd.

Hello I'm experiencing a black screen and continuous loop situation. Here's what happens exactly.I turn on the pad, I get a black screen for a while, after that I get the automatic restore message and it's doing something, then black screen again for a while, then I get the "diagnosing your machine" message and it stops there forever. I've left it diagnosing half a day, it just stays there doing nothing else. Here's what I've tried based in similar problems posted on this forum.Pressing the novo key, I see normal startup, bios setup, boot menu and system recovery.Normal startup and recovery do the same as if I turn the pad on from the power key, and the bios and boot menu produce a black screen.Since warranty has expired I've tried,1.Unplugging the battery and ram to clear sleep files, did nothing.2.Unpluging the HD and trying to boot anything, nothing, black screens all over again. I also did run the HD for errors in another pc, I did a fast and a 2.5 hours surface test, no errors in either.3.Tried to load diagnostic programs (hiren's boot cd and win7 recovery) from USB bootable disk which was pointless since I get a black screen imediatelly, still I had to try. So to summarize, I can't enter or restore Windows due to not being able to make any choises anywhere, because of black screen. I can't enter or reset bios for the same reason. The only 3 screens I have access to are, the novo button screen after I press the novo button, the system restore that comes after tur... Read more

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

When you said you can't enable the RAID option, do you mean you don't have the RAID settings in the BIOS?

If you have installed Windows 8.1 on the HDD and you have the 24GB / 32GB mSATA SSD try to install Expresscache to speed up the system (see this guide).

When done, you should see a result similar to this picture after typing eccmd -info i(this means that the caching feature is working)

I have a lenovo U310 with 500 GB HDD and 24 GB SSD. Both drive are working fine. However, when I boot my computer and reach to the desktop, I receive the error saying Intel Rapid Start Technology is not enabled. When I checked the BIOS, the Partition type for iRST appears to be INVALID. Also, I tried to download and install the driver for iRST from the Lenovo website. It installed properly, but at the end it said install the driver and finish. When I hit the finish button, I received the error saying the minimum requirements are not met. So, I have 24 GB SSD installed. But why am I getting the error and how to fix it?  Help will be very much appreciated

Hello, I bought lenovo Ideapad U310 a couple of months ago and i m having a little problem these days. The windows crashes and blue screen comes like 5 times a day., sometimes more. Some friends recommend me to format it but i didn't want to spoil the original windows home premium operating system as it is expensive to buy one. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

OK so I'm not dumb, and consider myself pretty tech-savvy.I've got Windows 8.1 I've installed myself on the SSD.I've tried using novo key, f2, f12, b, also windows reboot-to-bios feature, nothing works. When using novo key, and selecting setup or boot menu, it just boots to win 8.1 anyway. Now, I can't reflash the bios, because I'm on the newest version, and the flasher throws error 182 (bios already equal or higher version). What do I do now to reflash the BIOS, and thus allow me to access the setup/boot menu?

Answer:Lenovo U310 cannot access bios or boot menu

Other folks have had similar problems with the U310 and SSD  Here is the link to that discussion in case you had missed it.....

HiMy Lenovo U310 was formated on both SSD and HDD. Now when I try to reinstall Windows I have loads of problems. Windows 7 reinstall software only sees one small drive - 30 GB. It looks like an SSD but it's really HDD - but system does not see 500 GB, just 30 GB.I tried to do the reinstall it with the instructions from this site https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-U-and-S-Series-Notebooks/Lenovo-U310-Clean-Windows-7-Installatio... but whatever I do, I can't make the Windows 7 reinstall soft to see two discs - SSD and HDD. When I took the HDD out and connected it via USB, it Was OK. But after connecting it via SATA it's all messed up. Any sugestions?  Thank in advance,Szymon.

Answer:Lenovo U310 - formated SSD, doesn't see 2 discs during reinstall

hi SzymonAdamus,

Welcome to the Forums.

When RAID mode is enabled in the BIOS and when you try to load up the RAID drivers (taken from this site), is that where you see the 30GB SSD only? If this is the case then there's either a problem with the RAID driver / controller, or one of the drives.

Things that you can try:
1. Take out the 500GB HDD, use the SATA enclosure to read it on another machine and run a chkdsk /r on the drive.

In addition, run a hardware diagnostic on the HDD to verify its health.

Try these tools:

 - HDTune (run a full error scan and post a screenshot of the health tab)

 - Lenovo Individual Diagnostic (see storage test)

2. If there's no error on the 500GGM try to set the SATA Controller Mode to AHCI instead of RAID in the BIOS and test if you're able to install Windows 7 on the 500GB HDD.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards
