Preferred Solution: Lenovo S510p

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo S510p

Hi, I bought a Lenovo Ideapad s510 sometime in May this year. Currently, my battery does not even hold for 2 hours. The specs mention that the battery is sure to last for 4-5 hours and it will decrease upon usage. Unfortunately, I have not used it much and my usage would count up to an hour to a couple of hours per day. I use my laptop for writing and surfing and I do not do anything much that memory or resource consuming, such as playing games. I tried the gauge reset method a couple of days back and my battery improved only for another 30 minutes, nothing more. I would like to know if this is the maximum battery backup that this system would provide or is something wrong with my battery?? Is anyone else facing a similar problem ?? Thanks

About a month or two after getting this laptop, I have been getting frequent BSODs, I can't go a whole day without having about 2 BSODs. Most of the time, the bluescreen leaves too early before I can see the message but last night the message was "Data Inpage Error". To note, before the BSODs flag up, it drags and slows down almost to freeze point for sometime and then BSOD comes up. After the BSOD shows up for sometime, If I wait for it to restart itself, it just runs to an infinite black screen, I have to force off by holding poweer button and then turning back on to get it up again. I love this laptop, urgent help will be appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo S510P frequent BSODs

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Is the BSOD giving you an error code or message that may help identify the problem ?

Another option would be to just do a One Key Recovery and restore the computer back to its original out of the box condition.  The downside is the recovery process will erase the operating system so you will have to backup any important files and re-install any software that was added since it was new.  Page #20 of your model's User Guide will explain the One Key Recovery.  Here is that guide for your reference.......

This problem is not the natural OS problem where an application resists the machine from shutting down and hence the machine restarts...
This is differemt..
I had posted on this community earlier too, but no one seems interested to reply to my post..
Its high time to take some bold steps because its almost 10 months (my laptop is just 11 months old) that i am facing the same problem and no one from this community or even the customer care people are able to solve the problem.
If you are not able to solve the problem please atleast exchange the machine..

THE PROBLEM THAT I AM FACING IS DESCRIBED HEREWITH:
When I shutdown the laptop, the laptop starts automatically after 2-3 sec(it does not restart) after it gets switched off completely(the white led light on power button is off). This scenario is different from the normal restart where the led light is on all the time. Here, the led light goes down(turns off) which means that the laptop is turned off completely, but suddenly after 2-3 sec the laptop starts again..I am facing this problem from the second month of purchase. I am using DOS system, with 64 bit Win7. I have formatted OS a couple of times.
I was asked to replace the motherboard of the laptop by one of your Customer Service Centre, and I did so, but the problem is not solved. Although i have started facina a new problem of heating. The laptop heats up quickly and the laptop has restarted due to generation of extensive heat couple of times.

This is happening since last 4 months when i bought this laptop from showroom. I have formatted couple of times but nothing changes.i guess its an hardware issue!! Hi, If it's not one thing, it's another! I feel like my laptop bought in 2013 is falling apart on me now all of a sudden! When it pours, it rains, basically. Not happy. 1) the cover cracked at the hinges a few months after I got the laptop. Didn't think it was an issue. Wasn't an issue until number 2 happened. I then put black electric tape across the cracks on the cover.2) the display is separated from the cover. I put black electric tape all over it.3) the right hinge is popping in and out. I keep popping it in and out. Can't really open or close it without the hinge acting up, so can't use it as a laptop, only as a desktop. That is really annoying, if you ask me. and now, for the piece de resistance: 4) the AC converter is no longer working. Where do I find an AC converter for Lenovo Ideapad S510p Touch model # WB12764324? In the meantime, I'm borrowing a Lenovo Thinkpad AC converter. I need to return it soon, so I need a new AC converter for my Ideapad SOON. Thanks, much.

HI Support.I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad S510p with WIN8 as a gift,  and now I need to reinstallt this with an operating system that they feel comfortable in using. It will be WIN7SP1.Is there any known issues with this version and WIN7 so I cant "downgrade" it to WIN7?Or do you think I will be able to find all related drivers to win7?Guess I cant buy image from you for this? Thanks for help..

Answer:Reinstall Lenovo IdeaPad S510p With Windows 7 sp1

hi Indigo_SWE,

Welcome to the Forums.

Regarding your questions:
1: As the drivers for Windows 7 are available in the Lenovo support site, downgrading the S510p to Window 7 is definitely possible. One thing to note though is that the Lenovo Energy Management for Windows 7 is not available yet so you may have some problems toggling the Fn key combinations. Check this article for more info about Lenovo Energy Management.

Other issues found by other users:
Windows 7 Combo Jack Realtek driver problem
Ideapad s510p driver problem Win7[

2. As most of the drivers are available in the lenovo website, you may also need to visit the maker of the device (i.e. Intel website for Intel Graphics driver) in an event that the oem driver fails to load.

3. AFAIK, if a certain unit only comes with preloaded Windows 8 standard, the recovery image.will just be Windows 8 standard. You may need to use a retail copy of Windows 7 to downgrade.

Hi. I bought my lenovo ideapad s510p 4 weeks ago, it worked perfectly fine the first 14-17 days, but then it suddenly began spiking when I played the online moba League of Legends. At first I thought it was a problem with my router, got a new one, the problem was still there, then I tried lots of different advice from friends, but that didnt work either. Then I tried to update my network drivers, but the problem was still there. I then thought to myself, maybe this problem is only when I play this game, but I made ping test to the google server and i saw 11ms and then it spiked too 300+. I don't know what the problem is, but if someone could help me out it would be appreciated .

To be plain and simple I got this laptop as a replacement to finish my college classes with. It connects to my home wifi (AT&T U-verse gateway), our college wifi (Eduroam by Clemson), and most other internet. It just won't connect when I visit my parent's home. I have tried their password, clicking the auto-connect on the router, resetting the router, restarting my computer, updating all my Windows 8 64bit stuff, updating my wireless driver, etc.The computer DOES connect via an ethernet cable. Interestingly enough my husband's Lenovo will also not connect. My iPhone and most other devices in the house connect to NETGEAR 33-5G even though the actual network is called NETGEAR 33. My own Lenovo however does not see any other network besides NETGEAR 33.

Ensure Power button settings are set to shutdown.
Look at the Shutdown settings and uncheck the box for Turn on fast start up.
Save changes and shutdown.

Another option is to go to Device Manager.
Under system devices right click on Intel Management Interface and choose properties.
Choose the Power Managent tab and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

My laptop was originally loaded with windows 8.  I updated to windows 8.1.   Had the touch screen feature until  I updated my laptop to windows 10 in august.  I have noticed some issues but the one i am most concerned about is the loss of the touch screen function.  Has anyone had a similar problem.  I see from the Lenovo website that the S510p  can support the upgrade.  Is some driver missing?  when I check device manager human interface device HID compliant touch screen it says it is working correctly and enabled.  Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.  I cannot undo the upgrade since 30 days have aleady passed. Thanks

The laptop can not receive a charge from the charger. I have tried taking out the battery and only having the charger plugged in but it does not allow the laptop to turn on because there is no power/connection going on. The charger connection to the laptop seems loose and it doesnt seem like it is staying in. To me it looks like the charging port is too far into the laptop now and the charger connection cannot reach that far inside to connect anymore.

You can refer to this maintenance Manual on how to get access of that part in your Computer.

If you think it is Defective you can check the part number on that manual and Call Lenovo to check on how to purchase the part or Check onlinse resellers about the part number and its availability.

I've had by S510p for about two years.  Running Windows 10. The shift key started being erratic this afternoon.  When holding the shift key, sometimes typing letters or characters works and sometimes not.  When it doesn't work, it's simply a case of nothing showing up on the page.  It may work 5 times in a row, but then not work a few times.  This is particularly problematic for typing in passwords.  It doesn't seem to always be in conjunction with any specific keys (sometimes a capital I or an ! works, and sometimes it doesn't).  Any suggestions?

Answer:My Lenovo Ideapad S510p Disply not working but black light is on

Hi themr2,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Just to verify, was there any display from the BIOS setup screen on the built-in LCD?
Turn off the laptop and use the Novo button (item8 page 74) to power on the machine.

This would show up the Novo Menu screen for BIOS setup option.
Is this screen visible on the LCD itself?

Update us how it goes.

Hi Zeropatience50 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

After trying all advance recovery options and that you are willing to start fresh, you may want to factory restore it.
One Key Recovery (page 20) can be launch by pressing the Novo button (item8 page 74) while the pc is off to power on. Novo Menu should appear to offer System Recovery , one key recovery from initial backup.

Hoping that the harddisk / OKR image is still viable , things should proceed as plan .

Answer:Lenovo s510p Windows 8 x64 bit doesn't boot. It shoes blue screen of death

Hi Joshua_22,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue  BSOD in your Lenovo S510p laptop.

Check if the HDD is detected in BIOS and also check if the boot priority is HDD.

Since you are unable to boot the computer and it is in a restart loop, you may have to create a bootable Windows 8 installation media and then perform an Automatic Repair. Or if you have the OS cd or DVD you can repair through the cd.

You can also try to restore the system to last known good configuration and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!

Best regards,

Hi all,I recently bought a Lenovo S410p and wanted to install Window 7 - Home Edition. I faced a number of issues - At BIOS level, then it refused to detect USB 2.0, then it refused to install latest Nvidia GEForce drivers (need to install some intel driver but no idea which one it should be!) . It was a nightmare! While doing that, I realized, my touch pad was a bit damaged, the buttons seem to be depressed, it was causing a ridge between the pad and the keys - quite annoying. I took it back to the stores, they did not have another S410p - Hence I settled for the larger screen S510p - paid the difference. Good service from Lenovo! Now back home and tried installing Windows 7 - All the same problems surfaced again. Tinkered for a week and no luck! Then I decided to clean everything up and start from scratch. Trust me it worked this time! I am not a computer geek but a normal user with very limited/basic knowledge. Let me explain what I did,I. How on earth did you get this working? I've just installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a brand new Lenovo Ideapad S410p, and NONE of the drivers will install properly without the machine physically locking up! They extract into the C:\drivers folder correctly, then after accepting terms and conditions, the install starts and randomly locks the machine. It's taken me a day just to get the Intel Chipset and Management steps done, but the LAN driver just will not take.

Question: S510P DVD problem

Hi, For the last few weeks or so, I have been experiencing a problem with my DVD drive.  Whenever I turn on the laptop (doesn't matter if it was asleep or turned off), the DVD drive will make some strange noises as if there is a DVD/disc inside. This also occurs if I press the button to the DVD tray, and then close the tray again.  The noises persist for 10 seconds or so, and lags my laptop in that time.  This problem happens everytime.  Any solutions would be appreciated, thanks!

I just got a Ideapad S510p.  I also bought a Intel 530 series SSD to put in it.  The S510p works fine with the included hardware.  The ssd worked fine in another computer I used to update its firmware and format it.  When I put the SSD in the computer and attempt to install Windows, nothing happens.  The first time I booted with the SSD, it displayed a blank screen and did not show any life at all.  I could not even enter the BIOS screen. I had to remove the SSD to even enter the BIOS setting screen.  I changed the BIOS settings one at a time to attempt to get it to do something when the SSD was installed...  The only way I could get the Windows install disk to boot was to change the BIOS to Legacy Boot (instead of UEFI), and IDE (instead of AHCI).  The new problem is that even though the Win install disk will boot, even though the SSD is shown in the BIOS, Windows installation cannot see that the SSD is installed.  I tried a Ubuntu live CD and the Intel Solid State Toolbox CD, neither of them could see the drive either. Soo..  I have a computer which seems to work, a SSD which seems to work, but when the two are combined nothing happens.  It either won't boot, or it will boot but won't see the drive.  I have tried every combination of BIOS settings I can think of to no avail.  I am at a complete loss of what to do next.  Suggestions?

Hello, I hope someone can help. I just purchased a S510P for my wife as a gift. I followed the instructions on the start-up poster. When I pushed the ON button the screen backlight turns on but that is all. No boot messages. Nothing. This is very disappointing. I've never had a laptop which wouldn't start. This is also our first Lenovo. I hope this isn't an indication of the quality of the product. Thank you, Michael

Question: S510p camera

Hello, I bought S510p (non touch version) in this configuration: Lenovo IdeaPad S510p, 59-404371, 15.6" (1366x768), 4096, 500, Intel Pentium Dual-Core 3556U, DVD±RW DL, 1024MB NVIDIA Geforce GT720M, LAN, WiFi, Bluetooth, Win8.1. I bought it for my mom and quality camera was essential since she will use it primarilly for skype chatting. I watched some reviews and also it was listed as having 720p camera in the store there I bought it. Now i'm kinda dissapointed because camera quality is awful. So i read a discription on lenovo site and found this "The S510p features an integrated 0.3mp webcam, with an optional 720p HD webcam available". What does it mean? It means that my model is not equipped with the HD camera? Or there is some kind of software error? Can you please help me to fix the problem? Or confirm that camera is actually 0.3mp instead of 720p, I can still return it back to the store as a product that don't match the description. Thank you.

Answer:S510p camera

Ok, I've called to Lenovo support and they said, that there is only S510p's with HD cameras in Russia. That info doesn't help much, because it's anything but HD camera. I've tried installing different drivers, using different programs etc. Nothing helps. Gonna return it back and buy some Asus notebook I think.

Hi, I'm using Windows 10 pro on S510p, it's wokring well but there is 1 serious issue. When I close the lid of this machine, it goes to sleep, but after few hours the machine wakes up and then it shut itself down (not going back to sleep mode) so the next day when I power the machine, it doesn't resume from sleep, it starts a complete boot. Are there any settings to make the machine full sleep without waking up? (it's not connected to an Ethernet so there is Wake on Lan or something).

Question: S510P Broken Hinge

Sorry, Lenovo, it's time for us to go our separate ways.  After around 2 years, I've realized that the internal build quality isn't there.  With an expired warranty and a repair cost equal to that of a new one, I don't believe we can reconcile our differences and I have no choice but to see other computers. It might have been better if the hinge component had a more solid connection to the LCD frame.  Knowing that both of these components take a lot of stress, it might have been better to physically connect them, or have a thicker, sturdier bridge between them.  And instead of accepting responsibility, you make more demands for more money.  Thus, I feel I must end this relationship now before we get too angry at each other. Bye.  And good luck on the next phase of your life. ps. I have your pictures, I just don't know how to upload them.

Hi, I've purchased a week ago ideapad S510p machine (not the touch version), and so far I found a major problem with sleep, both in Windows 8.1 and Fedora 20. When I close the lid or when the machine goes to sleep after a period of time, waking up the machine shows the screen, but it seems something is not waking up as I cannot do anything (in Fedora the keyboard/mouse doesn't work, and in Windows I can login to the system but anything that I try to run doesn't run). My guess is thats because of Hard disk, although I hear it's waking, but the system probably doesn't see it as awake, forcing me to reboot by pressing the power button for few seconds until the machine shuts down. It gets worse: Some times, after a forced power off (due to the sleep/awake issue), the machine brings disks error and I already got once an error of unable to boot Windows. Is there any BIOS update for this issue?

I recently purchased a Lenovo s510p touch and thought I had all the bases covered when researching all the features I wanted. One thing I overlooked is a backlit keyboard.I have noticed that several other Lenovo models has a keyboard of the same size & layout as my s510p, but which are backlit / illuminated. From looking at the images of replacement keyboards it seems the connectors are even the same. Can anyone confirm that these two keyboards, say from a z510 to a s510p would be interchangeable?Anyone at a repair service center or technical assistance dept. that could confirm this?

Answer:Backlit keyboard - S510p

Dear dtooker2010

Welcome to Lenovo forums

The backlit does not depend only on the keyboard layout so your S510p wont have a backlit keyboard and you can confirm with the no. below

Thanks

While online computer froze; had to shut it off.  When it came back up it gets to the login screen and freezes; pointer works but cannot type anything.  After days of trying to fix, I finally used the OneKey Restore. Came up fine.  Left computer for a couple of hours, came back to black screen.  Used OneKey again; when computer came up ran CHKDSK and it found no errors, no bad sectors.  Tried to restart, just sat there.  Turned off, freezes on login screen....

Okay first off, when I bought this laptop....I was using a computer I had owned since 2001 and it worked but was slow. Ever since I have purchased this laptop, I have encountered one issue after another. First it was registry errors, then after that it was trying to uninstall a program which it refused to do, Windows not loading properly, and now I am having issues with the Photo section of the Library. When I go to use a photo, half of them do not load and the ones that do are partially loaded. Which of course causes the computer to freeze up and the restart the page I was on, today this has happened 5 TIMES. I need help fixing this, and I will also state I will NEVER purchase a Lenovo product again. Leave it to this company to sell a $700 computer that is riddled with issues and then to tell your customer that its their problem. Mind you this is coming off of the heels of waiting 1 month for a freaking power cable, and then they tell me that they want the old one back or else they will charge me for it. Good luck Lenovo, it is under warranty so as you told me, "That's your problem."

I assume a driver for the non-touch version of this computer is installed on this laptop. My Windows 8.1 screen no longer has side swipe capabilities, pinch, or holding for "right-click". Basically, whenever I touch, a mouse pointer appears. I am only able to scroll with the scoll bars. Any idea which drivers I should look at, or other place to begin to resore functionality?

HiI have a new ideapad S510p, just about a year old.Suddenly, when I start my laptop there is a beep, with a message saying keyboard is disconnected. The keyboard doesnt work, so I have to use the onscreen keyboard to type my login password.Strangely though, after start up, if I keep the laptop in sleep mode - and then press any key on keyboard, then the laptop comes out of sleep mode.Which means keyboard input is still being recognised. But I am still not able to use the keyboard to type - only the brightness hotkey and display off hotkey are working on keyboard. Please advise how to fix this keyboard issue. Thanks Deepen

I just got a new S510P touch and the mousepad is erratic.  I tried some things already (clicked on more precision, and took off some of the other drag features so that it would stop scrolling when all i wanted to do was move the cursor, etc.) but it just doesn't work very well, and gets to the point where unless I use a separate mouse it is almost unuseable.

I have a problem with these keys: When i press shift + 2 .... instead of the @ sign it writes " And When i press shift + " ..... instead of the " sign it writes @  what should i do? This laplop is just a month old....

Answer:Ideapad s510p keys interchanged

hi Mahvash,

Were these keys working before? Also, just to verify, is the S510p using an english keyboard layout like in this picture? If it is, can you try the following:

1. check if the OS is using an english keyboard by pressing the Windows key? +C > Settings > Change PC Settings > Time and Language > Region and language. On the selections, ensure that the Country/Region is in US and language is English (United States)

- Link to picture

2. If the problem remains, boot in Safe Mode and test (this will isolate any third party softwares that might be interferring with the keyboard layout).

3. Temporarily use a usb keyboard and see if the problem remains.

If using an external keyboard works then there's most likely a short in the keyboard ribbon. In this case, you will need to contact lenovo for service.

Regards

Answer:Ideapad S510p Audio Jack

Hi Mahvash,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

As per the information available in the User Guide this model of computer has combo audio Jack and the combo audio jack does not support conventional microphones and also the recording function may not be supported if third-party headphones or headsets are connected, due to different industry standards. Below is the link for more information about Combo Audio Jack.

Hi,I have Lenovo ideapad S510p Notebook With Windows 10 Pro (x64). The speakers on the notebook are not giving sound sometimes but when i plug in the headphone or earphone in the jack, it gives sound all the time. The notification which is given when plug is inserted in the headphone jack is not working. It thinks that the headphones are always inserted so it doesn't give sound from speakers while there is no headphone plug in the headphone jack.I have tried uninstalling the Realtek Audio Driver and installing the latest version of the Audio driver.I think the sensor or something which makes the laptop know that there is nothing inserted in the headphone is not working. Please help.  Thanks in advance. Regards.

Couple months ago I purchased my new laptop, so far it's worked great, just getting use to Windows 8 is a bit tough. I frequently take my laptop to locations that have no power outlets available and so have to rely on the battery, typically I'm working with Video and audio files which put a big drain on the battery. I thought no biggie, I'll go buy a second battery from Batteries Plus, a local battery store, problem is they can't find any information on this laptop or the battery, so I went on the Lenovo website and I also can't find the information on my laptop which is the i3 series Ideapad S510p Touch with the 500gb hdd 6gb ram, Does Lenovo use different numbers for this system? I purchased the laptop from Office Depot and haven't checked with them yet regarding parts specific to this laptop because I think the company that makes this thing should have information about it. Not too encouraging to see the number of support complaints regarding Lenovo computers, but mine is working as expected so far, just need a second or larger battery and then I'll upgrade the memory and be good.Any one got a link to help? Thanks

Hello,My 3 year old Ideapad S510P/Windows 10 started with a boot problem a few weeks ago. The symptom was that the power light came on, the disk started to spin and then 2 seconds later it shut down with the power light extinguished. About 15 seconds later this repeated and after a few attempts it would boot normally.Last week it just stuck with the routine of trying to start - as above - and kept trying until I removed the battery. The disk has been connected to another PC and is functional. I tried a new memory module to no effect, and also tried the routine of removing the battery, pressing power a few times and then trying to boot. Problem is identical on battery, battery + external charge and external charge only.Nothing moves it beyond repeatedly doing the 2-3 second start-up loop.Anyone got a suggestion other than send it for recycling? Thanks,

Hi,

I got a new Lenovo Ideapad S510p laptop about a month ago. When I went to bed last night, I just flipped down the screen so it went into sleep mode instead. When I started the computer this morning, the touchpad only worked for 2 seconds. I tried pressing the button that would enable/disable the touchpad, but nothing happened. I plugged in an "external" mouse, and that worked fine. I tried uninstalling the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver and then download the one from the Lenove website, but that changed nothing. When I plug out my mouse, the mouse pointer dissapears from the screen. There's absolutely NO Synaptics process running on the computer, and if I go into "Device Manager", I can only see my external mouse. If I plug out the mouse, nothing is showing up.

With my external mouse plugged in:

When it's plugged out:

I really need help. I don't want to be dragging a mouse around all the time.

Thanks in advance,

Oh, and it's might worth mentioning that I run Windows 8.1.

I'm having USB issues with my new ideapad running Win8.1 x64. I'm all up  to date on drivers (as far as I know), but my iPhone will connect/disconnect every second, an old USB HDD shows up as "USB device descriptor failed" which implies that its broken, but it works on my other laptop that is still on Win 8. Having searched around the internet, I cannot find a solution that works.. One user I found with the same issue but on a dell laptop, resolved it with a chipset update. Has anyone else any ideas how I can fix at least my iPhone problem?Or do I have to wait for a fix from Lenovo? Surprised not to see anyone else complaining about this..
