Is there a fix for slow wifi speed on U310?

Question: Is there a fix for slow wifi speed on U310?

I bought early july a IdeaPad U310 in Texas, and then I moved to Belgium to study. The wifi speed was awefullt slow. So having read the forums, i rang the support in Belgium, and after long discussion, i sent the laptop for repair. Service was fine, but extremely slow, with no information what so ever of where the pc was, if it was received for reparation... anyway, three weeks after, so that today. i received it back and, according to the intervention report, the wireless controler was replaced. The thing is, the problem ofthe U310 is not a defectuous part, it is something more fundamental. I tested the PC in various speed test website.I have three laptop, a Lenovo W520, a HP Mini 110, and the IdeaPad U310.I used speedtest.net and brosdbandspeedchecker.co.ukthe result areLenovo W520: Download: 19.64 Mbps Upload: 1.99 MbpsHP Mini 110: Download:15.72 Mbps Upload: 1.28 MbpsIdeaPad U310: Download 4.75 Mbps Upload:2.1 Mbps. Now, the speed on U310 is not that catastrophic (not like the 0.3 Mbps I was getting) but still not great and rather much slower than the two other machines, and not fast enough to watch a movie in streaming, it pauses all the time. So what should i do? Send it again? But is there a fix to the problem? Because keeping changing the wifi controller as they did did not fix the PC. The MEDION Repair center, which is in charge to repair Lenovo for northern europe (i guess) stated as well that the test "#winstress#" as been done. What is it? Yes the wifi works, but way too slow. Thanks for advice.

Preferred Solution: Is there a fix for slow wifi speed on U310?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: Slow Wifi Speed

Hi,

I have one of these wireless cards Asus WL-138g v2 and I have it running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit the card stays connected but is painfully slow when downloading and using the internet. I have tried a collection of different drivers removed anti virus software, disabled all start up items and services but this does not solve the issue. The only thing I have found so far that does solve this problem is to boot into safe mode and then it works fine and is not slow at all. Anyone have any ideas on what might cause this issue?

THanks

Answer:Slow Wifi Speed

As always check to make sure you have the most up to date driver from Asus. Also check and/or disable any software firewall that may be negatively affecting the connection.

Another thought that comes to mind is... what are you connecting to with this wifi card? Is this your own network, or? What is the signal strength of this connection? Screenshots may be helpful here.

Hey guys, just trying to figure out if I need a new router or if I'm doing something wrong. I have an issue rtn12 and it won't do over 30mbps over WiFi which is really annoying since I pay for 75/15 internet. Just wondering if anyone could help. If you guys need any info about the router setting I'll be more than happy to provide them.

Answer:Slow WiFi speed on rtn 12

Make sure the device you are testing with has a wireless N or newer radio. Wireless G maxes out at 54MBPS with full signal.
Confirm your PC/Laptop/device is negotiating a link speed above 75MBPS. Try standing directly next to the router for all testing to rule out signal penetration issues.
Retest with a different device to rule out your test device as the issue.
Make sure the router is set to broadcast wifi at its highest speed, (300mbps for your model) some allow you to only broadcast at lower speeds for compatibility. Some wireless routers also revert back to a lower speed when legacy wireless B/G devices are connected. May have to disable support for the legacy speeds.
Update your router to the latest firmware to rule out firmware bug, retest
Try disabling all QoS policies on the router, retest. I've seen stock QoS settings adversely affect speeds on the entire device.

That should help narrow down the issue.

Question: slow WiFi Speed

Hey,

my wifi seems very slow under Windows 8 and is acting like its been "capped" by something.

When running Windows 7, I was getting approx 60MB actually download rate off of my apparent 120MB Virgin Media service, now that I am on Windows 8 it appears to be running at 20MB.

The drivers have been updated to the one that was on the manufacturers website, before the update was applied my download was capped at 1MB.

Does something need changing / tweaking on Windows 8 to make it more friendly to high speed broadband?

Cheers

How are you measuring your speed?

Answer:Slow wireless speed via wifi

You seem to be misunderstanding the technology involved. For one thing, you do not connect your mobile phone to your PC for internet access, you connect it to your wireless router. You only get 3G through your cellphone network (and only then if it's available at your location). You can't get 3G through your home wi-fi, that's a different thing altogether.I've no idea what your home broadband speed is supposed to be, contact your broadband provider.

Hello. We have a Compaq Presario 2100 with WiFi 802.11 b,g that is downstairs. For internet it uses our Verizon Fios upstairs through WiFi. The Verizon Fios has download speeds of 24 MB/sec when it is hooked up by wire, and about 10 MB/sec through Wifi upstairs on the Compaq and 13 MB/sec on a newer laptop. But downstairs unfortunately is a different story. On the Compaq Presario 2100 a speed test ranges from 3.5 to 5 MB/sec. But I think it is sporadic. It might be higher depending on random time.

What can I do to increase the speed downstairs? Running a wire downstairs would be difficult, and so would be changing the location of the computer. I'm not sure about this, but I thought perhaps there is a WiFi router of some kind that I can put downstairs that can get significantly better signal strength from my Verizon Fios router upstairs. That way I can hook up the Compaq Presario by wire to the 2nd router downstairs. Will that work? If so what kind of router should I get?

Answer:Slow speed through WiFi, Need Advice

Is your current wifi thru a Verizon provided unit or a router connected to your Verizon FIOS modem (or whatever they use, don't have FIOS so I don't know)?

If your current wireless is G, going to an N router has been shown to provide a stronger, more consistent signal to G clients.

You can also get a G router and set it up as an access point downstairs and that may provide a more consistent signal to your downstairs client.

I recently decided to setup my hardware I bought few months ago.
I decided to get rid of the wifi router I was using(wndr3700v1) and setup a Uniquiti EdgeRouter lite and an open mesh AP(mr1750). I decided to use my wifi router as a temp switch only until I got a new switch. So I reset the wifi router, setup the AP and router and tested the speed and it went dropped to about 1/3 of the speeds I was getting with the wifi router. I tested the speed via Ethernet directly with the edgerouter and the temp switch and the speeds were great about 230mbps. I tried rebooting everything but that didn't help. I then tried to reconfigure the wifi router to also use the wifi part of it to see if my open mesh AP was at fault but no the wifi router speeds were also down.
I'm not sure what is the issue and would like some recommendations on how to troubleshoot this issue.
I know my wifi speeds won't match my wired speeds but I was consistently getting about 170-190mbps on 5ghz wifi and it's now down to 30-50mbps

I made a thread before trying to resolve this problem, I only figured out yesterday that if i switch to my onboard graphics, my wifi works fine. However on linux I can use my dedicated gpu and have no issues, it only occurs on windows, anyone know whats going on?

Answer:Gpu causing wifi to be slow and drop in speed?

Hi losingmymind

While I can't explain at a technical level why linux drivers work and Windows doesn't, I have to believe it is the electrical interference being generated by your graphics card. There was a thread where a members wifi wouldn't work when it was installed near his 10TB hdd. As soon as he got separation it worked.

I don't believe he posted back solution but suggestion was to create separation. Move the HDD to another location in case, route cables as far away as possible from hdd etc. I know moving a graphic card is really not an option but can you reroute any cabling associated with Wifi. As well can you get separation from GPU with antenna location.

I have un-installed and re-installed my Linksys E1200 wireless N300 router several times, and can only achieve about .5 MBPS d/l and ~6.0 MBPS u/l data speeds, on a 3 year old HP laptop, running Windows 7. This is wireless service, and the laptop is within 4 feet of the router. I have Comcast service on my desktop, and my "connected" normal d/l speed is ~30 MBPS, with ~5 MBPS u/l. Don't know what else to do. I have connected the laptop directly to the modem, and get 30 MBPS speed, so there is something I'm missing in the wireless router setup.

I have done multiple speedtest from www.speedtest.net over the past 3 days and when I am directly connected to my modem, my download speed is roughly 35 MBPS however, when I am on wifi (literally 5 feet from the router) my download speed is roughly 20 MBPS. I have the Belkin F5D8236-4 router found here http://www.engadget.com/products/belkin/f5d8236-4/.

Is this slowdown of speed due to my router/interference or what?

I need help desperately. The wifi speed of my Hp Probook 455 G3  (16gb Ram with 1tb drive) is ridiculously slow - Download at 2 Mbps and Upload at less than 1 Mbps.  My desktop right next to it is tested at 81 Mbps and 91 Mbps.  I have reserched and followed every advice I could find, short of getting into the Windows Registry to remove Cortana.  I have reset the PC several times to try different settings to no avail.  I have disabled Bluetooth, VPN, Cortana, location search...    Also unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device..." both of the network adapters - as adviced somewhere from my research. Just to indicate that this is not normal, the wifi speed of my Asus notebook is running very well. I will appreciate your help.  Or should I just give it all up?

I connect my PC to my router using a wifi dongle (I wish I could use Ethernet but it's just not practical). My router is a D-Link Wireless AC1900, my dongle is an Asus USB-AC56. They connect strongly, usually at 585Mbps. My incoming internet connection is passed through from the modem to the router. The modem isn't broadcasting a Wifi signal. My internet is a fibre connection provided by talktalk.

When testing with Speedtest, my iPad, mobile phone, Macbook and other devices typically see down speeds of 40-60Mbps and up speeds of 15-19Mbps, which is roughly what they should. (I mean, I'm paying for 80Mbps, but whatever.) My PC will occasionally get the same, but very often the download is erratic and slow, something like 1-5Mbps, and I don't know how to rectify it. (The upload isn't a problem, so what I'm usually getting is an up speed that's 4-15x my down speed.)

The problem doesn't seem to be with the router or modem, given that my other devices are getting good speeds, and it doesn't help to troubleshoot through Windows because as far as my PC's concerned, it's getting an internet connection, it doesn't care about the speed, so it doesn't suggest any solution.

I have tried various combinations of restarting the computer, unplugging the dongle, restarting AND unplugging, and every once in a while after being plugged back in it starts to reach the 40-60Mbps range, but there's no consistency to it. (And I'm scared to turn the computer off because if I do it'll probably lose... Read more

this happens when i try to connect my hpmini netbook and my desktop in a wireless ad hoc network. this is my netbook model which comes with Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN. i am using this usb wifi adabper for my desktop. netbook running windows 7 32bit and desktop running windows 7 64bit. all the drivers are up to date.

every time i try to connect these two, my netbook connect as 802.11b @ 11mbps, and desktop as 802.11g @ 54mbps. file transfer rate between them is 600KB to 700KB. when i tried to plug in the usb adapter on my netbook and connect it with the builtin wifi card then both connected as 802.11b @ 11mbps with each other. setting the rate to 54 in the netbook's adapter config didnt help. as i don't have any prior experience with wifi networking, i think i might be missing something here. any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all.
I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite C50-A02-V running Windows 8 Home Edition.

I've never really had the fastest internet, but its always been alright for what I used it for... untill i purchased this computer. Suffice it to say the internet is... a little below sub par.
Heres a speedtest...

My phone, My sisters Laptop running windows 7, even my old 2006 IBM running Linux all are getting speedtests with Download speeds of at least 5-6Mbps from the same router, with at least 5-6Mbps.
And yet here I am, brand new computer in hand, with memories of dialup floating through my head.

I've been on message boards trying to find an answer to this for hours. I've changed the Wireless settings to not turn off the Wifi. I've checked Toshiba's Website and downloaded the latest WLAN driver. I deleted literally every last ounce of bloatware from the computer when I got it, so I don't THINK that's an issue. There's no torrents or security running either.

Basicaly I have no idea what to do.

Now the weird thing is if I turn the computer on, and do a speedtest right away, I'm getting a fast Ping and a download of 5 Mbps instead of the 0.6...

Any Help or ideas on what to do?

Answer:Impossibly Slow Wifi Speed, Brand New Computer.

Did you try an ethernet cable instead of wireless? If that works normally, read on...

I had a problem like this many years ago, it turned out to be something wrong with the drivers for the network card I was using. To fix it, go into device manager and find the entry for the wireless network adapter (eg "xyz wireless network adapter"). Right click on the adapter and select "remove". Reboot the machine. It should detect the adapter as new hardware and reinstall the drivers for the network hardware. Of course you may need to supply the drivers at this point if they are not available on the machine.

This is somewhat techy and if you are not a level 2 nerd you may want to get a qualified friend to help...

Hello all tech guy users!!

I am having a really frustrating time with my wifi signal recently.
Here are the symptoms:

Max distance from router in which I can receive a signal is about 15 ft
Really slow upload and download speeds from MY laptop only.My fiance's laptop had a DL speed of 18Mps, and I don't remember the UL, but it was much better than mine. Screenshot to follow...
Internet will drop out while I still show connectivity to the router and then seconds later the router signal will drop out completely
Just now my signal dropped out and from my laptop which is sitting three feet from my fiance's laptop. Hers has internet just fine...
What I have tried so far:

Changed Routers
Changed broadcast channel on both routers
Updated the driver for my wireless network adapter
Virus Scan
Malwarebytes Full Scan
Xirrus Wifi Inspector run. Screenshot to follow
Removed Windows' ability to shut off my network adapter to save energy
This problem occurred for the first time one week ago today. I have been getting by since then, but the hassle is getting to me.
Full disclosure time...
Right before this happened, I had an issue with my laptop where the battery was not getting a charge. I tested the power available to the plug and found the proper voltage there. I have a new IdeaPad Y500 which I just got out of the box yesterday. I love the performance so far, except that the download speed when connected to Wifi is abysmal. When connected to the network via ethernet I get the same performance as I get from my desktops (connected via ethernet cable) and from my other/older laptops (connected via Wifi). The other machines get around 20 Mbps download and 2 1/4 Mbps upload. My new IdeaPad gets this when connected via ethernet cable. However when connected via Wifi it gets 1 Mbps download, yet still about 2.25 upload. As I stated, I have other laptops running on the same WiFi network and they get 20x the download speed. I have never had a visitor with a laptop have problems with the Wifi. Any ideas as what the problem could be? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Very slow download speed from wifi on new IdeaPad Y500 (95412SU)

hi kiwiarse,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If you're WLAN is the Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 wireless card, this might be due some security settings on your router as discussed here. What you can try is:

On the router:
1. Disable WPS & WMM
2. Disable packet bursting or similar feature
3. Configure the the Wireless Security to use WPA or WPA2-PSK
4. Enable QoS

On the Wireless Card
4. Update your Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 driver here or here
5. Set the 802.11n Channel Width for band 2.4 to Auto (this is option is under Device Manager > right click on the Intel Centrino 2230 card & choose Properties > choose Advanced)

Hope this helps.

Hello,
I have been having extremely high ping in online games like BF1 and Titanfall 2 (>500 with spikes to over 1000, pretty much unplayable), and slow WiFi speeds. I have already updated my wireless drivers and disabled location and automatic updates. Speedtest.net shows a ping of around 40 ms, and download speeds of about 7-10 Mb/s. Wired connections are a little less than 10 times as fast for downloads, and significantly lower ping. Doing a speedtest on my Galaxy S6 gives 12 ms ping and 35 Mb/s downloads. I have done a speedtest on my windows 10 laptop with the same WiFi dongle as my desktop, as well as the built in card, with very similar results. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Windows 10 slow WiFi speed, high ping in games

First thing I would do is run the DSL Reports speed/bufferbloat test and post your bufferbloat test result back here.

Could it be that the game is overtaxing your GPU or CPU and that is the cause of the issue? I'd try dialing back your settings and see if that helps.

Next, I'd do a diagnostic boot with msconfig to load minimum services only and run the game again to see if that helps.

Hi,

I have a ASUS N550JK-DS71T laptop which has about half the download speed with wifi compared to a similar laptop (with a N-type wireless card) right next to it. So this issue is not due to ISP or router. Upload speed is fine.
I used speedtest.net.
Laptop has the INTEL AC 7260 wireless card with the latest driver on Asus website (V17.0.1.5).
I checked the power settings and they are on High Performance.
I have a N-router set to N.

Would you know any settings in BIOS, Windows, INTEL to check/change to fix this.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Answer:ASUS N550JK-DS71T - slow download speed with wifi

That is a dual-band adapter in the laptop. From the sound of it you have a 2.4Ghz single-band router. Try turning off the 5GHz band on the laptop adapter if there is an option to do so.

Also, there are newer drivers dated August for that adapter on the Intel site: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...14&ProdId=3714

Hi all,

My Belkin N300 wireless router is now experiencing intermittent slow Internet speed. The router is 2 years old and has worked perfectly until last week.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I completed.

Internet speed test when directly plugged into the wireless router and cable modem: 30mbps
Internet speed using laptop wifi: 2 mbps then sometimes works at normal speed
Called ISP and they verified there was a connectivity to cable modem issue. Did a power cycle for modem and router. Then got full 30mbps from cable modem to ISP using direct connect to laptop.
tested other devices such as laptops and tablets, all experiencing intermittent slow speed
when experiencing slow wifi, switched to direct connect ethernet cable to router and got immediate full 30mpbs

So far all my testing is pointing to the Belkin router's wifi connectivity. I will check on the router's firmware since it has never been updated.
I also found a thread online suggesting disabling QOS on the router. But this should not be needed as it was working fine for two years since its purchase.

Any suggestions to what else I can do to resolve this issue?

Hey Guys!!! I have updated my G50-70 to Creators Update - Windows 10 Home Single Language x64 and ever since i have updated i noticed that my wifi speed has been very slow on my connection which is 90Mbps.When i open the status of Wifi it shows the link speed of 54Mbps and am getting around only 20Mbps Download and Upload Speed. So i did reset of my modem and re-installed the drivers and when i restarted and once again i viewed the status of my Wifi, it shows the link speed of 150Mbps and i got a full speed of my broadband plan i.e 90Mbps Download and Upload Speed. But at the end of the day, mostly i will put my lap on sleep mode and when i turn my lap back, it shows wifi is disconnected and when i try to connect it says can't connect to this network and finally i forget that wifi and again connected but again my link speed has been reset to 54Mbps and now am again getting 20Mbps Download and Upload Speed.sFianlly i tried to update the drivers using Driverpack Solution and IOBit driver installer and i got the link speed of 72Mbps which gives 55Mbps of Download and Upload speed but soon after the restarting of my lap, it reset again to 54Mbps of link speed.I don't know which one is causing problems to my WIFI Driver. Please anyone help me to get rid of this issue!!! Thank you!!

Does load constant if i stream or go to a page.  I have tried several method in order to fix my internet problem. Without luck I have tried:Updating the driver, updating the BIOS, tried to change channel in modem, i tried to set AUTO under wireless settings, i have tried to have the charger in and whitout, I have tried with wireless-usb-card, One interesting fact, when i sit very close to the modem, the speed becomes good and stable. The speed is also good on different network.  Also with Cabel it seemed good. Hi everyone, I bought a Lenovo idea center s510-08ikl last week. For a couple of days, it has very slow internet speed over wifi. I have my laptop connected to the same network, at speeds up to 30mbps, but the desktop has internet speed 0.3, 0.2 mbps. I have tried reinstalling the wifi adapter driver, updated it, uninstall and reinstall but nothing seems to be working. Please help.

Hi!
As the title explains, I have a 40k Mbit/s connection, which my father's and sister's laptop get as advertised, but my pc gets speeds that vary from 2k-15k Mbits/s. Although, when I connect to the internet via ethernet cable the speed is as advertised, around 30k-40k. So I replaced the wifi adapter usb, but that did nothing, so I ran malware tests, even though nod32 did end up removing a MyStartSearch browser malware, internet speed is still slow. My dad also reset and reconfigured the router's setting but to no avail. I'm all out of ideas at this point, what to do next?
I also checked for any programs that might interfere or limit my internet speed in any way but found none. I should also mention that between malwarebytes and nod32 ive perhaps removed the same MyStartSearch malware 5 times already.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Answer:Wifi speed is inexplicably slow, other pc's unaffected, with ethernet cable fine

I've removed the startsearch malware before and after i got the rly bad internet, it doesn't really seem to be related to it tho.

Hey everyone, I got a new ideapad U310 this weekend. I'm very happy with it, accept for the fan. It seems to go fast for no reason. I found some old topics on this forum, one with a bios update, but it does not seem to work anymore on the current bios version unfortunately. Can anyody please help me? The fan noise is very annoying and after 2 days of working with the ideapad I rather have it turned off to get rid of the noise than continue working on it.

Hello All, I had recently purchased a Lenovo u310 laptop. This was purchased on 29th June 2012 from Park Network Pvt Ltd, Sector 18, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. Since the first time I have booted this system the wifi speeds have been really low. On a 4Mps connection the wifi gives me a download speed of 200-500kbps whereas any other laptop on the same network gives me a speed of 3.5-4Mbps. But it works pretty fine on a wired connection. On Monday I took this laptop to the same showroom where I had purchased this piece from. They were ready to change the piece for me but to my horror this problem was common to all the laptops of this series. I tested the same on the U410 series as well but it had the same issues. I was directed to your authorized service center in Noida which is also owned by the same company Park Network pvt. Ltd. Those people told me that there was an update which they have received from the company and after which this problem would be solved. Once reaching there I get to know all they had was a new driver for the wifi device which my IT team had already updated from your website. This was on Monday since then they have not been able to solve this problem. They tell me that they have contacted the company and its pending at their end. It?s been 6 days since I have purchased this laptop and I have not been able to use it once since then. I thought this piece was faulty but it seems the whole series is faulty. I need a quick resolution ... Read more

Answer:My new u310 gives really low speeds on wifi

Hello, my girlfriend and I just bought the Lenovo Ideapad U410.Everything seemed just fine at the beginning until we noticed, that the notebook has troubles with connecting to the wireless network. It's just not able to ensure a consistent connection unless you are sitting right next to the router. We already checked the driver, which is not the problem obviously.Looking at the common problems ocurring with Lenovo Notebooks, the atheros ar9285 might be the cause of the issue.I am still hoping, this problem can be fixed by chaniging settings or downloading some software.Do you have an advice? As far as I know, we shouldn't be the only ones, to have that problem. So far, I am disappointed. Kind regards Dennis Hornig

Answer:Ideapad U310 won't connect to wifi

hi Copernic,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

So computer's wireless can detect the networks., Have you tried connecting this to other network?

Here are few thing that you may try:
> Turn off the router and computer then turn them back on after few seconds. Try to reconnect.

 > You can try checking your wireless configuration and make sure to check these
      - WMM(Wifi Multi Media)      Make sure dis is disabled or turned off
      - Mac Filtering       Make sure dis is disabled or turned off

>You can also check an open network, If it is possible change the Security type to none or Open (On the router).

WiFi Link Driver (Intel, CyberTan, Liteon)  WIN70wwl07ww.exe179MB

WIFI Driver (Intel, CyberTan, Liteon)  WIN80wwl13w8.exe187MB

You might also wanna check with your Router for any firmware update.

The range of the wifi can be fix by switching the black and white connector on the wifi card, the wifi range will increase by 40 % . I sent my U310 to the service centre, what they did was only change the wifi card, but the range of the connection still sucks. After switching the two connnector, The wifi signal was very good and get the maximum internet speed. Hope that lenovo technical team will look into this issue. Over the past couple weeks my laptop will not stay connected to any wifi network. It says I'm connected works for a few minutes, and then freezes. After that it says it's connected to wifi, but no internet connection. I've updated the driver directly from Intel, and it's still doing it. I'm also getting random BSOD associated with the wireless adapter. It is still under warranty, but I really don't want to be without it for a month to ship it back.

I purchased my new U310 in June in Israel. It is one of these units with wifi range issues. After a week of installing and reinstalling drivers that did nothing at all, Lenovo picked up my machine 2 weeks ago.I am still waiting for an estimated resolution date, the call center guys are clueless and I have no way to reach the lab since they do not accept calls from consumers. The only explanation I got is that the lab is still waiting for parts. Is this service lebel a standard with Lenovo? When Thinkpads were serviced by IBM the service level was fantastic. I wonder if it was a bad idea to switch from Dell to Lenovo.

I purchased my Lenovo U310 Ultrabook in early Janruary of 2013. The build date is Oct. 27, 2012. Since the day I bought this item the Wifi has randomly dropped out. When the WIfi drops out, often I'll still be able to see the network and it shows that it has a good signal, but time and again is unable to connect to it.  I figured a patch would be put out for this issue, as many other customers seemed to be complaining of it as well. Though the speeds are sufficient for my needs and I haven't exactly noticed the same issues that other cutomers are complaining about, it has gotten progressively aggravating to have to restart my computer each time the wifi decides to disconnect itself and not re-connect. I've tried installing the latest drivers on multiple occasions, each time to no avail. The problem persists and I haven't found anything that has worked. I have tried disabling the 802.11n, maxing out the transmitting power (5), and updating the drivers. I called the tech-support line but they wanted to charge me $100 to fix this known 'software' problem. I have a hard time believing that so many intelligent Lenovo buyers have been thwarted by a 'known software problem' that is easily fixed over the phone. If I'm wrong I'll happily eat my words, but I suspect that won't have to happen. The various WiFi connections I've used have all been strong and stable, and don't drop out on other laptops or my HTC Evo 4G LTE. It's clearly the computer that is the culprit. Any help is ap... I also have a U310 ultrabook and have the exact same problem, Wifi connectivity to my home network has been very sporadic, drops in and out, etc. I have other devices connected to the same home network at the same time (iPhone, iPad, a Nexus 4, and a laptop) and I do not experience the Wifi issues at all (i.e. it is not the modem/router, firewall, etc.). This must be a U310 problem, either hardware, firmware or driver. Just to give you a heads up, Wifi connectivity is not the only problem I have had with my U310 ultrabook, wait until you experience the long shut down (if at all) and long boot time.

Hi there, Hopefully this is not in a thread somewhere else, I've tried to find one (believe me, cause I'm desperate..).So in the middle of me writing my master thesis, my computer just decided to die on me two days ago. Luckily, I haven't been that stupid so I've got backups of everything concerning my thesis, but as you can imagine it is not a dream scenario to suddenly not have a computer at all. Anyways, to the issue: So what happened is this.1. In the middle of writing a blue screen comes up, saying that there has been a problem. A sad smiley face "" came up (I thought to myself that this can't be true. And then it said (translated from Swedish): "A problem has occured on the computer. It needs to be restarted." Something about information about the occurrence being collected.. "..afterwards a restart will take place automatically." It then added: "If you want more information you can search for this issue online later: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR It then restarted after some 30 minutes. 2. It started as normal (allthough a little slow), but then when I logged in almost none of my programs started. Any folder cannot be opened more than 15-20 seconds before it freezes a little bit and then just discontinues "explorer"/the folder and I'm back on the startscreen. Also, WIFI cannot be found whatsoever. Not that I cannot find WIFI, but it seems as if the actual WIFI on the computer just does not work. Or more like it doesn't even exist. One more thing... So I decided to buy a Lenovo U310 laptop - Biggest mistake yet -

Since I bought it the WiFi has NEVER worked!  Unless I am in direct line of site within 10 feet it will not connect - I have downloaded all the latest drivers - still does not work!  Same w/ bluetooth - constantly drops!
Now I downloaded the windows 8.1 update and lost my sound - Depending what your trying to listen to, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.  I go into the device manager and try to open the Dolby software and it tells me I need to install the driver - I installed all of the latest drivers - Still nothing -

After searching for answers I found that this model is notorious for WiFi issues.  Lenovo actually was well aware of these problems and still decided to sell them figuring it was easier to force customers to send it in for repair than to fix the issue.

My only choice now is to just accept that I have a new laptop that sucks and doesn't work - OR - send it in and be without a laptop for a month (not really an option) - In the past I have sent them in for repair only to be returned without fixing the problem - I actually went 6 months without a laptop I just purchased!

Please tell me if there is a fix for the dolby and the WiFi

Hello, I have an ideapad U310 with windows 8.1 update 1.   My wifi driver is the intel one version 15.9.2.1 Everytime I connect to the internet I have to type the credentials of the WiFi network (eventhough "connect automatically" has been selected).  The connection says that is taking longer than usual, and then I just get a message that says "The Connection Is Limited".    However, the computer actually connects to the internet and I'm able to open webpages and surf the internet normally.  I've searched in different forums and tried several things to solve this issue but still haven't been successful.  Can you please help me with this?   Thank you in advance.

If it is an intel card go directly to Intel's website and download Intel proset wifi software. Download InSSider, a program that will tell you which of the channels are less congested. Try to determine which channel in your area is less crowded and set your router to that channel. Observed if your problem is solve. Note: I'm assuming that your router and wifi card are compatible to each other.

I purchased a U310 Touch (with Intel Centrino N 2230 adapter) and I am also having trouble with slower connection (between .5 and 5 mbps) in rooms other than the room where the wireless router is located.  With the U310, I'm getting closer to 30mbps in the room with the router and at 25-30mpbs with other laptops in other rooms.  I did update the driver on the Intel site and made the recommended router setting and power management changes.  Tech support claims that there's nothing wrong with my hardware and recommended that I call software support to see if they can assist, but software support will charge me for a diagnosis (not covered by warranty).  Will they be able to help fix the problem or should I just throw in the towel and return the laptop (I'm still within 21 days)?  Thanks.

Anyone that is using an IdeaPad U310 who has installed Windows 10, I would like to hear from you.  The 1st upgrade to Win 10 went great, no problems whatsoever.  On the major update to to Win 10, boot up times went to heck in a handbasket.  I've tried everything I know with no luck.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  Is there a way to step through the boot process to see where things go haywire?  I knew how to do this in Win 7 but I don't see how to do that in Win 10. Also, this model of U310 has a small SSD which allowed it to boot quickly in its original format - Win 7.  It is now not part of the boot process with the change from Win 8.1 to Win 10.  Any thoughts on this would be appreciated also. Thanks

This pc was bought nearly a year some ago, it had been dead for multiple times even since several months ago, sometimes the mouse cursor became a circle running, sometimes the screen frozens, sometime my pc screen went black,I heard abnormal noises coming out of my pc hardware but not sure which of it is problematic.Anyway I finally decided to onekey recover my pc, and it was successfully recovered, however my screen frozens again in the initial setup procedures when I was almost finished registering my name and new password, then it turned to black screen, a window of boot menu and app menu then shows up, not knowing the meaning of it, I am now stuck here, and I am helpless, been looking for helping thread over the Internet, but there are too much informations out there that are really helpful for me, I really wish if some of you who experienced the same problem can share your methods that solved your problem, I really would like to attach a few screenshots showing my pc screen, as a first time user, I beg for your understanding and excuse my English, thank you everyone

Answer:My idea u310 Pc has recently experienced slow running system.

Hi JerryChicken,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system is very slow.

Try to perform a power drain by removing the external devices and try to power on the system by novo button and check for the issue.

Also try to run the diagnostics and check for the issue as this will help us know if there are issue issues with RAM or HDD.

Also try to remove the HDD if possible and check if the system boots to the BIOS.

Also try to run the antivirus and check if there are any bugs in the system.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

I have a U310 running Windows 8.1 that has had issues since it was purchased 1.5 years ago. The SSD died shortly after purchase, and was replaced by Lenovo (but not programmed at all...they just threw a new SSD in and no formatting was done). This computer does not boot quickly, but I can live with that. The real issue is the WiFi connectivity. This unit recognizes my home network, but often will not connect. After turning WiFi on/off, or disconnecting and reconnecting, it often says that the network is connected but the signal is limited. Alternatively, it will say the computer is connected to the network with full bars, but the internet will not load and Chrome (and other browsers) do not recognize a connection. All other wireless devices in my home work perfectly and NEVER drop the connection. This Lenovo is the only unit experiencing any issues. I've re-installed the WiFi drivers, but no change in activity was noted. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I don't want to purchase a new computer, but this unit needs to be able to connect to WiFi reliably.

I found this helpful information on possible solutions, very familiar with errors on previous Microsoft operating systems. http://www.vandersluijs.nl/content/view/973/96/lang,enI uninstalled one of the suggested updates and so far it is fine, the update was only optional so no security threats. I think it has helped, not certain if it will be like a fresh install because windows is slower than it was two weeks ago. If 3 weeks is best windows can handle for being ready for a new install I may have to go back to Linux. I hope this thread can stay on this forum somewhere to help others follow the link I posted above for possible solutions to this problem, it will save them time and effort trying numerous things.

Hi guys. I hope you can help on this issue I've been having with my internet connection, I don't know what to do...

I resently formatted my harddrive because my internet all of a sudden started being very slow but after the format it's still the same issue. Now I've tried plugging the connection line into my laptop and there there's no problem.

I am gettin' a slower download than upload...

I have a 10mb download/1 upload speed LAN connection. I ran a speed test on the same connection and on my stationary it shows like 250 kbs download and like 750 kbs upload, while on my laptop it shows like 8 Mbs download and 750 kbs upload... so what's the problem?

So far I've found out that it has nothing to do with the internet connection line or my NIC (I tried a brand new one and it was the same issue), it's not spyware or malware, it's not fragmented and under internet connections it says that I'm connected on a 100 Mb network card and there are no problems with any of the devices?

However I can see that if I open the job list, the download connection is very unstable going from up to 750 kb for a breif moment then falls to a halt at 0 kb... and moreover it says that I'm not using any percent of the network?

I'm on windows 7 and haven't had any problems before this, the rest of the system works just fine, but not the internet. If I try and download something it won't get higher than like 50 kb and then may... Read more

Last week I have purchased a WD 2TB Green Drive as well as a non-raid capable raid card Rosewill RC-212; since my older PC (WinXP32, Celeron D, 1GB RAM) does not have SATA ports. I have installed fresh drivers form Rosewills? website even though they are not needed for non-raid configurations. The PC recognized the card right away as well as the HDD. The write speeds are as expected, however the read speeds are between 300KB and 2500KB. I cannot figure out why the read speeds do not exceed 2.5MB? I have plugged the HDD as an external drive via USB and the read/write speeds are as expected. Anyone knows why and how to fix it?

Update:
I have tried 1TB WD green drive (1.5-year old) and it works as expected.

Update 2:
I have just spoken with Rosewill tech and he said that using PCI card and such a large drive it is expected to be slow. Personally I believe it is B.S. You?

P.S. for moderators: I have similar thread under storage and networking, but it no longer applies as such issue. Please delete it.

Answer:My 2TB WD Green has fast write speed but slow read speed

The Rosewill card's transfer rate is "up to 1.5GB/s." The WD hard drive's is 3.0Gb/s. Perhaps if you set the jumper on the 5-6 pins to activate the 1.5GB/s rate per this instruction: Western Digital.

Hi.

I have this very annoying problem and I'm really out of hopes. I don't know what to do anymore. I'll make a summary of the problem and will be as concise as possible

So I have this Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop with a broadband connection (direct cable, no router) and 3 weeks ago I reinstalled my Windows. Everything went well until 2 weeks ago when the internet speed went down, dial-up like. Pages won't load, and if they do they load just partially. I called my ISP and they said they had no problem. I couldn't find any solution so I thought maybe, some sort of virus or spyware is doing this so I formated the whole hard-disk and did a clean install of Windows.

Unfortunatelly nothing changed, the download speed is the same. Here is a speedtest.net evaluation:

http://www.speedtest.net/result/2276053238.png

Drivers are up to date, no windows firewall, no antivirus and no windows update. The ISP support guy told me to deactivate IPv4 and IPv6 from Local Area Connection, but nothing changed. I did a TCP/IP reset which raised my down speed to almost 1 Mb, but after a few minutes it went back to "dial-up". With the down speed being the same, Speedtest sometimes shows me upload speed in between 50-70 Mb which is unbelievable (I will make a ss next time I see this).

And the very weird thing is that I have another netbook (pretty weak config, Intel Atom CPU, 2 GB RAM) and with the same cable it has normal speed (the kind of speed I had on this Dell too). An... Read more

Recently moved house and had installed my internet today, the exact same setup.

Right now the only difference with this setup is that the router is plugged into my laptop, and if anything, it's closer to my computer than it was in the previous house.

My problem is that it randomly goes slow for short periods of time, or in games it lags like crazy. For example while watching youtube it'll shoot up the loading bar fast and then all of a sudden stop, and go really slowly, then back into fast speed over and over.

What can I do to resolve this?

Answer:Slow speed, fast speed, slow speed.

Go to speedtest.net and see what your download and upload speeds are. Watching a youtube video will use less bandwidth than a game would.

You could also do a tracert to google.com to see if there are any high response times.

Recently my desktop has experienced very slow download speeds (~0.11 Mbps), however the upload speed appears to be in line (~2.0Mbps). These numbers are taken from Comcast's speed test (my ISP). It is obviously a problem with my PC because everything else on the network (PS3, Laptop) have great signals with no problems. I just recently reverted the Desktop back to its factory state, and everything was working fine for a couple of months.

The desktop in question uses Vista 32-bit and the Belkin Basic USB Wireless Adapter.

hey, im shopping for RAM and was wondering if i could use high speed RAM on my not-so-high-speed computer. By this i mean that, my computer can support PC2700 RAM, so, would i be able to buy like a PC3700 RAM and use it on my computer (knowing the fact that its performance will be downgraded because my motherboard isnt made for PC3700). The reason/s for this is because, at Frys(www.outpost.com), ive found that some higher speed RAMs are cheaper than PC2700s, allso, im planning on buying a new motherboard in the future(with of course higher performance), and want my RAM to be living to its full potential when i get it, without having to buy new RAM again. Hello guys!

So I bought this kick-ass laptop from MSI. It is pretty good. These are the specs (in case they aid in finding a solution to my problem):

Name: MSI WorkStation Series GT60 2OKWS-674US

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

CPU: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7-4800MQ

Hard drive: 1 TB 7200 RPM, 128 GB Solid-State Drive

Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro K3100 with 4 GB DDR3 VRAM

Hard disk description: SATA

Optical Storage Device: BD Burner

Cache Memory installed size: 6.0
Problem statement:

I am trying to copy files from a DVD disc (some 3 GB of data) using the CD-ROM on this laptop. The transfer speed is EXTREMELY LOW! It starts with almost 3.5 MB/sec at first, but then after 10 seconds or so, it gets down to 500 KB/sec! The transfer was going to take approximately 6 hours, which is a lot for a laptop with specs like mine.

I tried to copy the same DVD to another laptop, which had much lower specs than my MSI, the approximated time was 10 minutes.

I tried to update CD-ROM but it told me that it was up to date.

Please help me guys!
Best regards,

Hi, welcome to this forum!

Please visit this site to measure the real speed of the connection. When done please post the results here.
Internet providers (who gives you the internet) usually make an offer of x speed internet but they only guarantee you to get much less. So the speed might change up and down sometimes. If the internet is still very slow please read the details of your agreement with the internet provider. But first give us the speed results from that site

ok i have tried downloading things on BOTH IE and firefox and they go at a third of my normal speed. when i go to normal sites it goes the normal speed. ive gone to speed test and the results are normal. whenever i used utorrent it goes at normal as well.

i have two computers and the problem is on both but it seems to be worst on my xp than my vista computer. the xp goes one third speed for download but the vista go 9/10 of the full speed.

Hi,I need some help, I have Tiscali Broadband up to 8mb speed, my netgear router shows a download speed of, 8027kbps, and if I plug the SAGEM usb modem in direct i get a reading of 6.7mbs, neither of which are bad.... However, all my pc's (3) when doing speed tests on line are giving me a download speed from 43.1 to 160 kbps. One Pc runs Zonealarm the other AVG, the windows firewall is off, and if I turn the virus software off I get no speed improvement. 2pc are running windows XP pro and 1 windows XP 64? any ideas, this has been going on for about a week. Thanks

Answer:Broadband Router Speed OK, PC Speed SLOW????

See what the BT Speedtester reports your profle as click here If your profile is incorrect that could be limiting your download speed.Post back with the results.

hello.

i have cable internet that is connected to a belkin wireless router. one computer gets slow internet access when connected to this. multiple other computers get better speed. the one affected computer gets fast speeds when accessing the internet at other locations, like a friend's house. also, the affected computer gets fast speeds when connected to the router by a cable.

so the problem seems to be very specific to the connection between these specific devices.

the laptop in question is a thinkpad e420 running windows 7.

thank you in advance for any solutions or suggestions you might have.

Answer:Solved: slow net with 1 computer and home wifi, but not other computers or other wifi

Few days ago, Suddenly My Windows XP started operating very slow. I uninstalled some program such as : AVG PC TUNEUP to reduce the load on the system. I also checked my Task Manager for pointing out memory eating processes but found none. My CPU Usage was dribbling around 0% to 3%. But PFUsage was near 788MB. Then I started searching for virus. Scanned with AVG, Avast, Zemana, Hitman PRO, Antimalwarebytes several times.
When they didn't solve the problem I gave a repair installation of my system to see what happens. It fixed the problem. But started again after some moment. I gave the repair installation once again and its running smoothly now.
I did some search over net and found out this problem can be connected to my harddrive. I scanned my Harddrive with HDDScan, Crystal Disk Info. They both showed error for

Answer:Very slow Windows XP with slow internal file copy speed

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:  List last 10 Event Viewer log  List Installed Programs  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy,  taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.
Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.
After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):
Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot. You will see the following prompt:

Hi All

Recently my pc has been acting up. On start up i get missing .dll error messages, alot of pop ups and my upload speed is really slow. Download speed is 9700 kbps but my upload speed is only 20kbps.

I tried ad-aware to remove bad files but that did not do anything.

Below is my HijackThis log
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Slow upload speed, missing .dll files, slow start up

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.

TDSSserv Non-Plug & Play Driver Disable

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
To avoid addtional delay in gettin... Read more
