This issue started couple of days ago and so far i have tried few options but no success yet ( restarted the computer, changed few options in lenovo energy management, unplugged teh power for couple of minutes). since last couple of days, it's showing 4% available charge(although plugged in). Has any in the forum encountered this issue ? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Ideapad U510 Battery Issue stuck at 4%(plugged in , charging) - but not getting charged

hi prad,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Turn off the computer but let the AC adapter remain plugged-in.
2. While the computer is off, let the battery charge for about an hour or two and observe the light indicators. When finished, turn on the computer check the battery status.

- Link to picture

If the battery still stays at 4% and the battery notification is still "Plugged-in, charging" then I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you most likely need to get the battery replaced.

Answer:Battery showing 8% charging, plugged in still not getting charged

Hi

Welcome to community.

I understand your concerned issue,in order to get the recovery from the respective issue you need to re-install the Lenovo Energy Management software, afterwards please perform the Gauge Reset, to do so, undergo the mentioned steps:

1. Open Lenovo Energy Management.
2. Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
3. That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

Performing the Gauge Reset will take more time, so please do not close the laptop by that  time.

Regards,
Sameer

Hi, I bought a brand new Lenovo Ideapad U510 just yesterday, but when I charge it, it does not charge past 94%. The status remains at 94% plugged in and charging, but it doesn't actually change even after an hour or two.  I have tried unplugging to 10% and then recharging but again it got stuck at 94%. And yes I have checked the energy mangement and it is on Maximum Battery Life. Should I drain the battery completely and then try recharging? Is there a way to fix it to charge all the way to 100% or is it a problem with the computer itself? Thank you.

Answer:Ideapad U510 Battery Stuck at 94%

Drain the battery first and then try again. Probably this is also maybe happening to prevent battery detoriation. So this can be normal.

Hi, My U510 battery does not charge above 54% Started happening from yesterday. My laptop completely turns off if i remove power cord. Started happening from yesterday.  It does say 54% Available. Plugged in and charging.. What could be the issue? Before this issue started I also had an issue of huge noise coming from laptop. This also happened like 3 times so far. My System was bought on Dec 4 2012 with 3 year warranty including ADP.  I have 511 Warranty days left. If the battery is faulty does warranty cover it? Please advise. Thank you for your time..

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

I'm not very good with computer stuff. I know ctrl+alt+delete and other teensy things but I don't know how to fix this. I left my T400 on for four days while I was on vacation, but  I didn't have it plugged in. I came back yesterday and tried to plug in my laptop because I need it for work, and when I plugged it in and started it up the battery in the start menu showed it was charging. Unlike most people mine says it is charging, but never goes past 0%. Even after letting it charge for almost 20 hours it's still stuck at 0%. Unrelated, but I noticed my computer isn't automatically connecting to my home wifi anymore like it used to, and a lot of my settings are reset. Are these issues related? What most important is my battery. It shows it's in good health on the power manager. I just don't know what to do. Help? I don't know if I provided enough information. Let me know if you need anything else. Thank you!

Answer:Battery 'Plugged in, Charging' but stuck at 0%

A completely drained battery will take a while for the controller to re-initialize. 20 hours seems a bit too long, but you might want to wait a while longer.Check under Power Manager's battery tab. If the wattage number is greater than 0, then power is flowing into the battery.

EDIT: The settings getting reset might be the CMOS battery running out. If the system time resets with both the AC and battery unplugged, then you'll need to replace the CMOS battery.

I have an IdeaPad 500.  The A/C charger is "plugged in" and the icon says it is "charging" but there is no charge to the battery, which is now at 53% (it was 55% yesterday).   I have gone to the forum and done what they suggest (e.g. turned off the Conservation Mode).  Unlike most questions on the forum, my system says "charging" rather than "not charging".  And because it is an IdeaPad, I cannot remove the battery (at least not without opening up the case).  I am a bit worried this is a hardware/battery failure -- but I hope this forum might give me a software fix

Thanks in advance

So I've had this laptop (Toshiba Satellite C650-01V) since 2010 I think (I had it since I started university), and around early this month I've been having problems with my battery: it's not being charged. There's a message that says "plugged in, not charging", and I've tried multiple ways in trying to fix it. Each day it would lose 1% of power (It would be at 90%, then 89% the next day). At the moment, it's at 5%. At the bottom of my laptop is a little light that I'm assuming indicates how much power my laptop has or something (it has a symbol of a battery and a plug beside it). When I have my laptop plugged in with the AC-adapter it's green; when it's unplugged, it turns orange and starts flashing. I have no idea if it was green or orange when my battery was still fully-charged.
I remember I had to replace my AC-adapter last summer because my old one was damaged; but I don't think it has anything to do with that because it's been working fine until this month.

-I've tried the "shut down, unplugged AC, remove battery, replug, start-up, uninstall control method battery, shut down, unplug AC, put battery back, replug AC and start-up" method, but it didn't work.
-I tried disabling Toshiba Power Saver, but that didn't effect anything.
-I read somewhere that completely draining the battery might work (somehow), except my battery refuses to go any lower than 5% no matter what I do.

I'm beginning to think that my battery is just dead and gone. I really ... Read more

Answer:Battery Not Being Charged ("plugged in, not charging")

Yes, it sounds like your battery is dying. This is quite common, as they only have a lifespan of X number of charging cycles. Get a new battery.

A replacement laptop battery should be less than $100 US from the manufacturer. There is nothing wrong with generic batteries provided they are the EXACT same specification as the OEM battery (original equipment). These you should be able to find in the $50 -$60 range. You should be able to find a replacement battery on Amazon in minutes (or anywhere else - dedicated battery websites will provide you with more details for making an informed choice).

While not necessary I always buy a new charger to go along with a with a new battery.
It is VERY important that the charger have the EXACT same output voltage and amperage as the original equipment. Ignoring this rule can shorten the life of the battery, or the laptop.

Running the battery all the way down is a leftover from the days of NiCad batteries. It has no useful effect on modern Lithium Ion batteries.

The guy at Best Buy is an excellent salesman. A poor excuse for a human being, but a great salesman. I bet he won an award that year.

My lenovo s10 netbook, with windows 7 and XP isn't charging anymore. I thought it was because XP is no longer supported or something, but I upgraded to Windows 7 and it still doesn't work. There's an orange light on, and when I move the battery around it turns blinking blue, I thought that meant it was charging, but in Windows 7 it says no battery detected and it's not holding any charge. Hi, I had the problem where the battery didn't charge at all even if it was connected in the right way and the charger was plugged in. So I started to search internet for possible solutions. Those I found where to 1) disable alt uninstall ac and acpi adapter in Windows Device Manager. Restart computer.. Not charging problem is related to some Windows issue. 2) Choose the alternative "maximum battery life" in Lenovo Energy management.. Neither worked after several and time consuming tries... The problem here is Lenovos "smart" Energy management system that prevents the computer from charging the battery to "save it".. Solution: Uninstall Energy Management (Publisher: Lenovo) under Program and Features in Windows Control Panel and the problem is solved.. And don't reinstall this program again....

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad u410, it is about 2 years old now, and I've been having charging problems. This started last year, where my laptop would be plugged in and down on the battery icon it would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." The battery would deplete completely, and when I try to charge it, the light would just blink. This eventually went away after about a month, I didn't do anything, and I could use my laptop again. However now it's back, at first I thought it was my charger, but I removed my battery and plugged it in and I can use my laptop without the battery. I tried to replace the battery, but it still did not charge. When I plug it in with a battery in the laptop, it will only blink a few times then stop entirely. Do I need to download any battery management drivers? I don't know what the problem is.

I have my U410 Touch for 10 months now.  It always charged to 100 % but starting a couple days ago it only charged up to 90% and stoppped.  I called Technical support as I am still within warranty, they told me to perform the  the battery gauge, but it did not work.  Then they asked me to reinstall the battery driver and the energy management software but it is still not working not charging to 100%.  They now suggest to me to do one key recovey to reset to the factory setting to see if it works.  If not, they said I can send back the computer for service.  I am not sure if I should do the one key recovery becaue I will loose all my files and etc.  I am skeptical if this will work?  Any suggestion?  Should I just tell them I will send back the computer to Lenovo to fix the problem but then I will not have the computer for at least two weeks. ....

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Hello, I have a 3 yr old Ideapad Z510(that came with Win8)which worked absolutely fine until recently. If I plug in the charger when the laptop is on, it abruptly turns off and would never boot again until I remove the charger. However, this is not how it behaves every time. There are some rare instances where I could still operate the machine with charger plugged in.  When turned off, battery is charging and also goes to full 100%. When turned on(battery mode) it does not drain rapidly - I could still get a fairly decent stand up time. So I am assuming the battery is good. I don't see any thermal issues either. Things I tried:-------------- > Tried with a different charger - no help.> Updated the firmware - no help.> Update the entire driver pack - no help.> Applied windows patches, reinstalled and also upgraded windows to Win 10 - no help.> Reseated the battery and associated cables - no help.  I am not sure if there is anything that I could do to at least diagonize the problem before I give it to the service station. Any pointers on this is much appreciated   Thanks much in advance.

Answer:Yoga 13 Battery stuck at 60% "Plugged in, not charging" after updating to Windows 8.1

Go into Lenovo Energy Manager > click on the menu button > Settings tab > turn OFF conservation mode. This setting is designed to help conserve the health of your battery if you tend to use your laptop while plugged in.  It's not good for the battery to be held at 100% for long periods of time, so instead this setting stops chargins when the battery reaches 60% to prevent battery damage.

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S100c  Good day! I'm a complete novice at computer troubleshooting. So, please excuse me if I sound like an idiot.  I bought the laptop just 10 days ago (warranty of 1 year). It worked fine before but suddenly the battery won't charge. The icon indicates that it is 'plugged in, charging'. But even if i leave it with the charger plugged in, it won't seem to store the 'charge' and now I'm stuck at 6%.  This is not the first time this problem occurred. One time, I shut it down and plugged it into the charger and left it to charge for a couple of hours. When I opened it, it didn't seem to charge at all. So, I opted to charge it while it was open and it worked.  And, now I leave it open when I charge it but it doesn't seem to although it is indicated. Should I wait for a miracle to happen or do I get a new battery pack?Thank you in advance.

Answer:Ideapad S100c battery problems. 'Plugged in, charging' but does not store charge.

hi CynicalTurtle,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the battery and AC adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs
3. Insert the AC adapter and boot into WIndows
4. When the WIndows OS is loaded, slide the battery back in place and see if it takes a charge
5. If the battery still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset as discussed in this article.

If the battery starts charge, monitor the battery health by using Passmark's BatteryMon.
If the problem persist and the battery still doesn't charge, I recommend you contact lenovo for a replacement battery.

Hope this helps

I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

Hi, I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 and my battery won't charge anymore. I saw a similar post with firmware update solution suggeste back in May 2013, but I also saw there was no support for windows 8.1 on the software. Is there any fix for this issue out there? If not my product is still under warranty, any suggestions? Regards,Dhruv

Pretty much what it says in the title.  I have recently been needing to use my Notebook for extended periods of time, and I had found that, despite the laptop reconizing that the charging cord is in, it fails to charge while in use and only charges when the computer is hibernating or when then laptop shuts down. I've taken a look at the battery settings, including Conservation Mode which seems to cause this type of problem, but I've had little to no luck fixing to problem. I would really appreciate if someone could give me some advice on how to fix the issue, as it is getting in the way of my work having to use it for only an hour, then have it charge for an hour.

Hi, I have this brand new z500 and it's been useless couple of months, today I take it back in use and of course plug in charger. After about half an hour I'll start the computer and battery icon says 28% and charging, usually icon is animated but now nothing happens. Also when I unplug power cord, computer shuts down immediately, same like if  you remove battery. Could the battery has been died during the time computer was unused? Is there any way to bring it back to life, or do I have to send this machine to warranty service?

Answer:ideapad z500 battery charging stuck in 28%

Under Energy Management set the battery setting to "Maximum Battery Life".

hi there.              I have Ideapad S510p laptop with Windows 10 Pro. The battery of the laptop was working fine but some weeks ago when laptop was idle and battery got drained to 0% and laptop got shut down as battery got totally drained then after that i started laptop & tried to charge battery, it won't charge. It shows 1% and charging but it won't go any further for hours and after some hours it would show notification pop up that its battery has gone to 0%. yes the battery is old but it should show only 1%. Why is it doing that? any solution to this? Also what can i do to caliberate new battery and that it shows correct time and notifications? Please help me with this.

Answer:Ideapad S510p battery not charging and stuck at 1%

Hi Sentient,

Greetings.

I would suggest trying to remove the AC charger and battery and follow recommended power check out from the hardware manual (page 21-22 Checking operational charging and Checking the battery pack).

Without the AC adapter and battery, press down the power button for 30 seconds to drain remaining flea power and try to connect the battery and AC adapter back after 1 hour (placing the battery in a dry room temperature).

Without turning the laptop on, allow it to stay connected with the charger for 1-2 hours as it should show the battery indicator LED to change from solid amber to fast blinking amber to slow blinking to white LED as shown in the status indicator guide (page28).

Above direction would at least give hint on the hardware integrity of the battery.
Otherwise, if the issue is with software detection, you may check on the same steps described here in this discussion.

Update us how things go.

Regards

Replaced my dead battery on my HP, and it's been fine.  I haven't been leaving it plugged in constantly once it's charged.  It got low so I plugged it back in, last I'd checked it was 7 minutes to complete charge, I had lost track of time and checked again, and it's at 99% and saying it's plugged in, but not charging.   Any tips for how to resolve this error.  I don't want to have waste money by draining this battery and not being able  to charge it.   Thanks.

The battary plugged in, not charging issue has been posted multiple times in this forum. The solution being taking the battery out, uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Coplient Control Method Battery, then restarting the laptop. I have done this over 10 times now, and it works everytime. However, this has become an everyday issue and I am looking for a permanent solution. Is there a driver update from HP or Microsoft exist which would solve this problem?  All of my laptops drivers are up to date as per HP Support assistant software, and windows 10 is also up to date.  Please let me know if there is a better solution. Thank you,Amitava

hi venketkumar,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you check the Lenovo Energy Management Software.

There is a mode there where the software will stop the charging at 58 to 59% battery charge to protect your battery

Maximum Battery life will let the battery work as normal, charging it to 100%
Optimized for battery health will stop the charging when it reaches 58% to 60%, showing Plugged in not charging

Let me know your findings
Thanks

Answer:Z500 touch battery issue plugged in not charging

hi lebanese,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you're following this article on how to fix the battery charging issue for the Z500 Touch but a "No battery attached" error appears, try to turn the computer off and hold the power button for 20secs. When done, boot back into Windows and check if the battery is now detected.

If same "No battery attached" error appears then I'm afraid this firmware update won't work as the battery or the connection of the battery to the motherboard might be defective (the battery needs to be connected for the firmware update to work).

I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue as you may need to send the unit for service.

After changing my laptops hdd i am unable to charge my battery chk the following setting and the power daignostic report

Answer:(0%avaible plugged,charging)Power Efficiency/Battery issue

Have you tried removing all power, then removing the battery, and then pressing and holding for 30 seconds the laptops power button. Refit the battery and try again.

Is the battery an original type supplied by the laptop manufacturer ?

Although I don't hold much hope, you could also try uninstalling 'ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery' that you can see in control panel and then clicking 'scan for hardware changes' on the top line in device manager. Don't uninstall anything else.

Often these problems are down to faulty batteries.

This is the second new IdeaPad Y470 I've ordered from Lenovo in as many weeks that has the same exact problem as the first new Y470 I returned to Lenovo after only four days of use.  Simply put, the machine quits charging the battery for no apparent reason and on a completely random basis.  Note that I am fully aware of the difference between the Maximum Battery Runtime and Maximum Battery Health settings in the Lenovo Energy Management software.  The problem I'm experiencing occurs REGARDLESS of which of these two modes the machine is in, and it occurs regardless of which AC adapter is plugged in (I ordered a spare adapter with both of these machines, so the problem has occurred with four different AC adapters).  THIS IS IMPORTANT... WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS, THE ROUND MAIN POWER BUTTON LIGHT BEGINS TO FLASH, AS DOES THE WHITE POWER LIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOUCHPAD.  ALSO, THE BATTERY LIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOUCHPAD FLASHES RED.  When these three lights are flashing, mousing over the battery icon indicates that the machine is running solely on battery power, with no power being supplied from the AC adapter even though it is properly plugged in.  It doesn't even say "plugged in - not charging"...it's as if the AC adapter is not even plugged in.  And btw, the battery in both of these machines was properly installed.  This machine is only a week old, and this problem started within one da... Answer:IdeaPad Y470 Battery Charging Issue

Did you check the polarity of your wall outlet? Are you using a extension cord, from the wall, to plug in the adapter? I know the AC adapter doesn't have a three pronged plug, but the 2 pronged plug has a "fat" end that must be inserted correctly for the adapter to function properly. I've seen houses where some fool electrician has reversed the outlet wiring.  Buy a cheap AC Outlet Ground Tester like this: http://www.amazon.com/Electrical-Receptacle-Outlet-Ground-Tester/dp/B0012DHVQ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qi... Just a thought. I don't believe it's a problem in 2 DIFFERENT laptops, so I would look for a solution somewhere else. DragonRider

Answer:U510 won't turn on, battery light flashes twice when plugged in then nothing

Hi Citrineaux,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not powering on in your Lenovo U510 laptop.

Try to connect with different adapter and check for the issue. Also connect the external monitor to check if the issue is no power or no display. Check if you are able to hear the windows login sound.

As this model has the inbuilt battery, please try to power on by reset button or novo button.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

I did a search, but I could not find a- someone with the same issue and b- i tried some of the suggestions (toggling diffrent option in battery management program) and that didn't seem to work, but it did for a few others. My p500 shows that it is at 40% and that it IS charging (most of the other stops states that it isn't charging).  It could be that windows thinks the battery is charging, but it obviously isnt because when I pull the power plug, the laptop immediatley shuts off.  Obviously the battery doesn't have a charge. I got the latest version of the lenovo energy manager, but that didn't do anything.  Also, I don't recall the enery manager being there.  I am almost certain that it was not there prior to windows 8.1 upgrade. Device Manager shows all of the hardware with no missing drivers/unknown hardware. I have been running the battery conditioner which is suppose to run the battery down and then charge it back up.  That has been going on for a few hours and it is still at 40%, where it has been stuck from the start. Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Is it possible to have my laptop battery plugged in and NOT have it charged?

I use it as a desktop most of the time - I normally just take out the battery and use mains
(The idea behind this is that I don't unecessarily charge and recharge the battery - and therefore prolong the life??)

It would be great if it got to max charge and then dint charge again at all
OR is this how it works anyway!?

I have a Dell Core 2 Duo laptop that is about 18 months old

Any suggestions would be great

Thanks
OM

Answer:Is it possible to have my laptop battery plugged in and NOT have it charged?

There are a couple of reasons your battery won't charge: bad battery or bad charging circuit on the mother board. If the computer runs off the a/c adapter, then the adapter is OK. Your battery will last longer if it goes through regular discharging and charging cycle.

My laptop has a battery light which tells me when my laptop is fully charged. When it is fully charged (it is green), Windows still says "05 minutes until fully charged" and then charges for another half hour. In the past the light has been reliable, so I believe that windows 10 is the issue. My laptop has also had significant issues with charging. I can confirm this with two batteries. I have an Asus K55VD which I haven't changed the battery plugs in or anything like that. What could my problem be? Here's what I've tried:

-Disabling and re-enabling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery (no change)
-Turning power saving off in BIOS (did a bit of help with the charging problem)
-Fixing the fan (turns out it wasn't spinning, which caused a range of issues. Helped the battery charge issue a bit)
-Keeping the laptop shut down (didn't help)
-Keeping it asleep (didn't help)
-Keeping it on with the screen off (did help it charge)

Yet I can't find a fix for the battery charging percentage and time issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Battery fully charged, but still charging

You won't want to overcharge the battery but allow it to run down a bit often while not seeing the ac charging adapter plugged in constantly. Otherwise the life of the battery will be shortened. As for the 4hr. batteries those will show 3hrs. 52min. of time not a full 240min.! depending on make and model laptop as well as brand of battery. Found that out fast when the need to swap the 2hr. battery that came with an older model HP laptop saw the 4hr. replacement. The new Toshiba 10 laptop however came with a 4hr. battery.

Windows any version isn't exactly the best battery level meter to begin with and shouldn't be relied on as being absolutely 100% all the time. It is afterall still "Software" in contrast to having an accurate physical meter as well as the differences between makes and models of laptops having different power requirements while batteries will tend to see a standard for everything in use! One model will pull a battery down faster simply from having it running then the next! Different cpus as well as the rest of the hardwares will play a role there as well as the individual board designs. Never leave a laptop constantly plugged in while a battery is present as those will tend to get quite warm as well as the overcharge factor to watch for. A good overnight charge of 8hrs. max and if not wanting to see the battery run low and running off of ac a few hours but never constant as that will tend to kill a battery faster.

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Thank you
(I'm running windows 10 X64)

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. This is my first time posting in any forum, so i hope i didnt leave anything out.)

I want to keep the battery on my laptop as healthy as possible. I primarily use my flex 4 when it is plugged into a wall charger, and was wondering if when it reaches 100% does the battery stop charging? I know it says it does not charge, but can anyone confirm that there is no electricity running through the battery when it is plugged in and fully charged? What is the best way to keep my battery from degrading over time? Thanks!

Answer:Does the Flex 4 battery stop charging when fully charged?

Yes. it does stop charging. All modern laptops have a lithuim-ion battery that is computer controlled. But it is recommended to drain (use) the battery at least once a month to calibrate and maintain battery chemistry healthy.

I have a really frustrating problem that I hope someone can resolve. I have an Ideapad U510 and although I can connect to my home wifi, I can't access any website in a browser. Chrome returns the 'not responding' error. I imagine this is a DNS issue but don't know how to fix it. If I plug a cable in, I have no problems getting to websites. It's only when using wifi. I did try flushing the DNS cache with no luck. Initially I thought this might have something to do with my VPN client (GlobalProtect) because I could surf just fine when connected to the vpn. Once I disabled, no luck. I've even uninstalled the vp client and still can't get to a website. Any ideas out there?

Good day,I have reached the next problem: after I've returned back from a vacation, I have inserted AC adapter into my laptop and the orange battery indicator was not displayed. I have turned on my laptop and found, that the battery doesn't charge - there is "Plugged in and not charging" message near the battery indicator in the tray. I have tried to follow the steps from the http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ideapad-Z400-or-Z500-battery-will-not-cha... , but it didn't hepl - the program freezes on the first step "Now configuring the program..." http://take.ms/k0TBi Have also tried to delete/reinstall Energy Management - nothing helped. OS - Windows 8.1 x64.Power Management Version 8.0.2.14. (have also tried to reset battery via that toold - didn't help). Thanks in advance.

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

Good day, I bought my Lenovo G580H 1 week before, and before few days i saw, that the battery is not charging. First time the battery was on 61%, later when i was watching the film without AC adapter and after it pluged the AC adapter i saw, that the battery is on 7% and not charging. So no it's not charging too and when you want to watch a film or something without ac adapter laptop is truns off autmatically. So for what i should be angry? For Lenovo or for Windows? Thanks for your help, and sorry for my bad language .Regards from Lithuania.

Hi all,

Laptop is a 5 years old HP Pavilion DM4-2153ca.

Issue started a few months ago when laptop was shutting down at 63% battery, and when I plugged it it would charge until 9x% and then say "plugged in, not charging".
In the meantime I upgraded to Windows 10 and the issue wasn't solved.
I formatted and did a clean install of Windows 10 and still not solved.
HP advised I revert back to Windows 7 as this is the "original" OS for my somewhat old laptop.

So I just re-installed OEM Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 that came with the laptop, and the issue got worse, now it shuts down at 96%.

I also uninstalled and re-installed battery drivers, didn't work.
I tested the battery in the HP UEFI Support environment and it passed, so I can't calibrate it.

At this point I don't know what to do, and I don't think it's a battery related issue because it never fully discharges. The laptop just shuts down before! Help!!

Answer:Laptop shuts down at 96% battery and "Plugged in, not charging" issue

This is battery issue, nothing relates to windows &or battery drivers, if any.

If you leave the battery plugged in all the time, with the main power on.
Sooner or later, battery will not be able to charge properly, as you encountered now.

The percentage you see may not be real, hence it may force the laptop to shutdown without warning.
There is nothing you can do, unless either get a new battery, or use it as home with main power on.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

I updated my laptop's BIOS yesterday from 9BCN31WW to 9BCN91WW to get the new lenovo logo at boot time. The full process was done while the laptop was plugged in and was on AC power. After update, I properly shut down the laptop and went to sleep to wake up today morning to discover that without charger laptop gets drained to 7% from 100% in 30-40 seconds and with charger it gets charged to 100% from 7% in another 30-40 seconds. I thought it might be a software issue so i booted into linux (dual boot) and waited. Unfortunately, the laptop shut down after about 20 minutes. Since then the battery percentage is stuck at 0% and the message on battery icon sometimes fluctuates between "plugged in, charging" and "plugged in, not charging". Without charger, laptop goes to hibernation instantly and does not power up. Please help.

Hi,
I am writing this as I have hopelessly tried all methods found online without success.
I have an XPS 15 bought in France. I move to Singapore and my original DELL AC adapter was spoiled. So I went to the nearest store and bought a third party adapter. Everything works out fine for a while... Now, my laptop won't charge anymore (stuck at 90%).
My laptop only turn on if it is plugged under ac adapter. When I unplug the ac adapter, my laptop turn off.
When I turn on my laptop it says "this battery charging is temporarily disabled, press F2 for entering BIOS Menu". In BIOS, under battery health it is said "this battery is temporarily disabled, please turn off the computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature" I have this problem systematically, my laptop is not heated.
I even bring it to a repair shop here in Singapore; but they do not even have the parts to test.
Please help.
I am willing to buy a new battery or new adapter, but I am not even sure if that's the problem.

Thank you

hello, all... it is in yet another time of need that i turn to you ...my notebook (dell inspiron 1525, about 1 year old) started showing signs that its battery might be warn out - when it was not plugged in with its adapter, within a few minutes it would without warning go into sleep mode and upon trying to turn on, warn me that the battery was at a critical low...

now, today it had been on for a while in a summer-hot room and it was only when i tried to put it to sleep to ~reduce~ the burden on it, the battery light started flashing orange (the warning that your battery is in trouble, 4 times quick, 1 blue flash) and nothing - not turning it off, letting it cool, would make it stop
...it does come back on but i don't foolishly think it's going to last! the battery meter also says, instead of 100%, now 99% and will not go up... (my father's notebook battery meter is always stuck on ***74%*** even if allowed to charge, and it's been this way since turning it on for the first time... so i'm not sure what is causing that...)
the only time the orange light did go out was when i UNplugged the adapter but as soon as i plug it back in, that happens again ...and if i leave it unplugged for too long, the system will go to that critical low situation again and this time it won't be able to re-charge either. based on your experience and expertise, do you think the problem is most likely the battery (and/or the adapter cable? or the a/c connector port?) ne... Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Answer:T410 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hi Hang,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

I hope the above information helps.

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Answer:Y510P "plugged in, charging" but battery is not charging

hi kanyewest,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).

2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. Hi,I have an IBM T60, my battery works fine. Lost an hour of battery life from when it was first bought, but that's not the issue. When I plug in my charger sometimes (most times), I check the battery thing in the taskbar and it says "Plugged in, not charging". I worked out how to resolve this by taking my battery out, leaving it out, while the laptop is plugged in, and then putting it back in Sometimes I get home from school and the battery is at 20%, I just charge it over night, or think i am, and it doesn't. That's the issue, I don't realise it!  please help. Thankyou.

Oh, and another thing. This happens to my brother aswell (also owns a T60); the laptop would be working fine, until it decides to give us a black screen. Only way out of this is to put it to sleep, and wake it up again. Nothing in particular starts this issue. Thanks

I am using  510-15IKB Laptop(ideapad) with windows 10 and it is only 4-5 months old laptop, it shut down when it is charge 50% or less during working on battery , while battery is only 20 days old because last battery performance was not good so company change the battry. So battery as old no issue but when i am using laptop on battery after  some drain it shut down the laptop. And after that shut down laptop take 4-5 time more in starting to normal starting. During my conversion with support technician he tell me for windows recovery but it do not have any effect, then he tell me for calibration but during draining in calibration it also shut down at any percentage so it also not completed. Now i am using this new laptop as a desktop due to issue because the work i do at time of shut down goes because it only stores in RAM.  Also its BIOS is updated and all recommended drivers are updated. Some times its battery only charged upto 90% while I put it on charge for 10hours. Also its performance is not relevent as it works sometime on full charged battery for 3hours and some time only 1hous while before 1 month it was 4:30 hours-  5hours on a full charged.

Answer:Ideapad 300-15isk Battery fully charged, but laptop shuts down when unplugged

Hi Raouaa, Please use Lenovo Settings to confirm the status of the battery, from your description of the issue it seems that this is a defective battery. Lenovo Settings should show you that the battery status is destroyed, if this is the case I would recommend getting in touch with Lenovo Warranty Support and getting the battery replaced if the unit is still under warranty. You can get in touch by clicking on the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page under Support.Cheers,

Hi,

I am not sure which board my Ideapad U530 Touch should go on......

I charged my Thinkpad last night and this morning when I unplugged it, it said battery was low. I was surprised as I had charged it overnight.  I plugged it in again, and the battery iccon shows this message: 99% available (plugged in, not charging). I have been searching for ways to resolve this but haven't found anything appropriate for my model.

The laptop was manufactured 7/9/2014.
Model: Lenovo Ideapad U530 Touch.
Windows 8.1.

I have had it since September and have never seen this message (but possible that I hadn't noticed).
Since purchase I do notice that the battery definitely does not last the 6-8 hours as the specs say.

Appreciate any help on the battery not charging!
Thanks.

my laptop is stuck at 99% plugged in,charging.

so here is the story..
i was watching a video on youtube after few minutes the laptop got shutdown immediately without any message, and the laptop was too hot and i think it had shut down because of overheating(this had never happened) .then i left it to cool down ,after some minutes i started it without plugging it to charge .so i checked that the laptop's fan was making noise and running in less speed .after sometime it gets less noisy and the speed was also decreased but when i started a fan dust removal all seemed good ,no noise or any speed decrease, but sometimes it did.and all the laptop's functions and performance it all seemed as it was before.when i plugged in my charger it was slowly charging but at 99% it's stuck.99% plugged in,charging.
my laptop- lenovo Z510
so is there any way to fix the fan noise and speed problem ?
i guess that the battery stuck in 99% might take time to fully charge.
and as always
thanks

It sometimes charges when I let the laptop in sleep mode or close the lid. I sometimes get a full charge but then, when I'm using it, it just stops charging for no reason. To "force charge" it, I discovered that if I first unplug the charger from the laptop itself, then disconnect the cable from the power brick, plug it back in the laptop and connect the brick back again, it seems to charge for around 4 more minutes. I tried updateing the BIOS with the support from the official Lenovo support site (this one) but it does not work. I heard about the removing the battery and pressing the power button but I can't remove the battery.  The power brick and charger are original and seem to work fine. Should I try buying another charger? Please resond to this as I'm desperate. Thanks much !
