I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Drivers all show working properly. Not intermittent. Tried settings and no help. No response when touching screen at all. Can't calibrate. Bios has no update available. Nothing in manual under troubleshooting. Any quick fix suggestions have likely been tried, but open to all ideas. If all else fails, and assuming the digitizer is bad, what does repair entail and any rough estimate? Is there any recall? I see this issue on the forum a lot with not many folks getting it resolved.TIA!!

Answer:U310 IdeaPad Touch :The Touch Screen Stopped Working. No Previous Posts Have Helped.

hi c2nah777,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Have you tried booting the system in Recovery Mode (One Key Recovery), You're not going to Recover the system since your only going to check the touchscreen in that mode "Outside Windows"

See if the touhcscreen works there,
If Yes, I would suggest doing a factory Reset First Before jumping into a hardware Repair.
If No, Then I think you're correct with the digitizer.

Hello, good evening, I have had an off-and-on issue with my trackpad not working. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. One moment it will work, the next, it doesn't. I have been bearing with it for months now (plugging in a usb mouse when it won't work for an extended period of time). Today, I stopped working during a timed test (I am a college student), and took 5 minutes to get it to work again. Valuable, precious time that could have meant the difference between an A and the D I ended up with (just kidding that low grade had to do with a refusal to study, but it could have been the cursor refusing to move!). Key points:I know this is not an issue with the function (fn) buttons. Tried that.I don't think it's drivers, because it works sometimes. The pad has been crooked since I got it (eg.: the left side is almost higher than the area around it, while the right side is sunken 2mm below the same area. The back appears to be even on both sides.) Any ideas?

Answer:Ideapad U310 touch touch pad not working

hi meagaletr,

Welcome to the Forums.

Your issue might be similar to this thread.

When the touchpad doesn't work, can you check if the touchpad system icon detects that you're still putting pressure on the pad as shown below:

If you get the same scenario then it's possible that the touchpad is malfunctioning (possibly grounded) and you may need to contact lenovo for service.

I am one of the early adopter that bought the crappy 1080p touch TN panel. Now seeing that the 4k touch panel is superior, I would like my screen to be replaced. The question is , would the 4k touch panel physically fit the frame the came with 1080p panel (direct subtitute)? 4k replacement touch panel is not available for sale right now but maybe in a year or so when it is popular I will definitely consider doing that.Thanks.

Answer:Is it possible to upgrade IdeaPad Y50 1080p touch screen panel with 4k touch panel ?

Still, anyone from Lenovo know about this ?

Hello All - I just noticed that my multi-touch (not enhanced multi-touch) screen no longer responds to finger touch; just pen. It used to respond to both before i upgraded to Windows 7.I tried the Lenovo diagnostic check for the touch screen, and during the test, it only responded to the pen. What should I do? Is there a certain driver i'm missing or need to uninstall and then re-install?Thanks in advance.

Answer:Post Windows 7 Upgrade - Touch Panel Not Responding to Finger Touch (x200t)

Ok...I think i really screwed something up. As per a Lenovo support tech's advice, i installed the Windows 7 "Enhanced" Multi-touch Driver, even though i do not have the enhanced multi-touch screen, and this is what it says on Lenovo's site about this new driver: "*1: ThinkPad X200 Tablet models with the Multitouch are NOT supported." "*1: ThinkPad X200 Tablet models with the ENHANCED Multitouch ARE supported." So, i go ahead and install it. I notice that finger touch now works, but the pen setting are now all screwed up! The eraser no longer responds when i turn the pen around to erase. It actually INKS with the eraser as well! OneNote no longer automatically starts inking (or erasing) when i bring the pen (or eraser) into range. I have to manually click on the pen icon (or the eraser icon) on the tool bar to use these functionalities! *groan* In the Tablet PC Input Panel: no eraser functionality (it inks instead!!) and even the button on the pen (which previously had the right-click ability) only inks when pressed down! I think i made my situation worse...Please Help! Adam

Hello, I have the TOSHIBA Satellite U400. Everything is going great but I have a few concerns.

1. The Touch Panel (Media Buttons on top of keyboard -mute-media-play/pause-stop-rewind-forward-) turn
the computer ON if touched! How do you stop that from happening? I only need to use the POWER button.
Power button is enough.

2. The MUTE button on the Touch Panel does not actually "mute" or "unmute" sound. Instead, all it does
is turn the White Glow Light for the entire Touch Panel ON and OFF (including the word "SATELLITE").
How do I make it do its proper function?

3. When logging into Windows, I get to choose between Password or FACE RECOGNITION. How do I
set it to FACE RECOGNITION only without having to choose it?

Thank you,

SAL : )

Answer:Satellite U400 - Issues with touch panel, touch and media buttons

It seems like there may be a problem with the buttons, I would send the system to an ASP for repair.

I have a U310 Touch. It's running Windows 10. It had been working fine up until today. I got home, turned it on, and opened the Chrome browser. It suddenly shut down. Now when I try to turn it on, a yellow light on the front flashes three times. But it won't start. I can't hear the fan or head disk moving. It's completely silent. The same happens if it's plugged in or unplugged.  Any ideas how how I can get this thing running?

Answer:U310 Touch Won't Do Anything

Hi Norrime,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.
Maybe two things you can try depending on the OS.

Remove the hard drive and see if it boots to the bios.
Reset RAM
Unplug battery from motherboard
Wait for battery to completely drain
Boot with HDMI monitor to see if anything displays (nothing would, so LCD panel should be good)

Let us know if it helps.

Hi everybody i got this ideapad U310 touch brand new and it came with win 8, then after i bought it i installed a win 7, it was working fine but the windows was asking for a valid prodcut key, i tryed a couple and no luck , so i found another win 7 from a friend with a valid serial , i installed the fist part, restart and finish the installation and then when was about to restart again now it only shows the lenovo logo and restart ,and keep restarting from the lenovo logo. any help please , because i dont want to install the win 8. thank you.

Answer:HELP Ideapad u310 touch win 7

hi luifej,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If the Installation completed and the product key was accepted , Then you should be able to log back in.
It's possible that the Installation got corrupted
Try Booting in Safemode by tapping F8 when on Lenovo Logo and see if that works.

I would Suggest do another Install of Windows 7 and Try completing it again,
Note: Use a product key that has not yet been used for another computer, WIndows may detect that the key was already used and prevent you from Using It,

If you wan't to get a product Key You might want to call Microsoft and Let them know you need a retail Product key (fees will apply) as this is a different Version of Windows from the Preinstalled.

I have a U310 Touch.  It crashed the other day and the windows repair came up.  I let it run all night and it was shutdown in the morning.  When i turned it back on, I just get a lit black screen.  There is no beeping or logos when it boots up.  Tried rebooting many times and always the same out come.   I than decided to replace the Harddrive.  I took the old harddrive and tried to boot it in my other machine.  When it would load it says it needed to repair windows but locks up everytime it tries to repair.  So I got a new HD and loaded windows onto from my other computer.  It boots just fine in the other computer.  I put the new HD into the laptop and nothing still the same problem.  Other things I have tried:- Unhooking power and battery and pushing the power button to clear out- Booting with CMOS battery unplugged- Pulling ram and booting ** this caused the screen to not even show **- Pushing the button on the side next to the power brings up a menu with four options and all options bring it back to the   black screen  Any ideas? **Edit**When I put a bootable linux usb in the USB slot, and use the Novo boutton i get the Novo Button Menu.  Any selection I make with the USB drive in I get "Secure Boot"  Image failed to verify with *ACCESS DENIED*

Answer:U310 touch pad problems

hi nemoralen23,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

When the issue occurs, using an external mouse, can you navigate to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse > ELAN or Device Settings Tab and check If all of the options there are grayed out - if they are, then the touchpad is disconnected from the OS (probably due to a faulty driver or a defective touchpad cable / touchpad board).

To isolate the driver issue, uninstall the Touchpad driver (ELAN or Synaptics) from Control Panel > Programs and let Windows install the generic touchpad driver. If the problem reoccurs, this is most likely a hardware problem.

Answer:lenovo u310 touch ssd

hi michaelmike121,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The SSD on your system isconfigured as cache drive.

Due to the size of the SSD (small capacity)
Using it as a Storage drive may not be efficient that's why it is used and set up as a cached Drive.
The Intel Rapid Storage Technology is an SSD caching with Raid Set up (Since Your system is not Raid set up this uses the same but a different caching program Express Cache.)

To verify that your system is on caching Open a Command Prompt Administrator.
and Type in eccmd-info (This is a comand for your caching Software "ExpressCache" this will call the details of the caching and how it is doing)

a result like this should prove that the caching is working

"Cache Read Percent : x.xx%" (where x.xx% is some actual percentage)"Cache Write Percent : x.xx%" (where x.xx& is some actual percentage)

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hello, I purchased a U310 Touch about 15 months ago that is no longer under warranty. Every time I try and boot the machine I receive no response from the machine. The power light turns on, the fan spins, the HDD turns on but the screen never displays anything. Even when I close the clamshell the machines power button stays lit and won't shut off unless I kill the power by holding down the power button. My troubleshooting steps have been:Reset RAMUnplug battery from motherboardWait for battery to completely drainBoot with HDMI monitor to see if anything displays (nothing would, so LCD panel should be good) With all of these, I cant get the machine to fully function. It feels like the machine is in total sleep mode, I feel like it needs a new motherboard. With my experience with lenovo I feel like this will be the last machine I ever purchase from them, this is unacceptable for a laptop of this age.  Does anyone have any similar situations? If so did you purchase a new motherboard and was it good to go? I'm very comfortable with ripping machines apart since I used to work on a help desk. I would hate to spend $100 on a part and waste all that time if it wont fix the issue.  Any help is greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Just purchased this Laptop for school.  I love how responsive it is.  I have sold quite a few from where I work.  Problem that my customers and I run into is this silly One Touch Recovery.  We are not able to make restore discs in case the Hard drive fails or get a major virus infection.  Or even better yet can't replace the HDD if it does go bad.  Most of my clients don't wish to send the machine in to be restored in fact they don't even like to wait the time it normally takes me to do the work.  So my question is what happens when I do make the backup?  Does the One Touch program get copied to the backup?  Does it do an exact restore?  What if we need to install a larger HDD?  I have seen quite a few online articles about these issues.  I have even searched the posts here and not seeing a good answer besides order the restore disks and even then the One Touch no longer functions.  I want to keep selling these machines they have out performed and out lasted most the other brands that I sell.  Any input or thoughts would be nice.  I love the thought of the product.  Just don't love this One Touch Restore. I have even spoken with the Lenovo rep and nice guy and all but was completely clueless that people may have these issues.  In fact at one point even asked why anyone would need the restore disks.  Thanks in advance for letting me pick your brains on this matter.

Hello, I have purchased a U310 Touch laptop one week ago. I am having difficulties with the touchpad while using Microsoft office (I cannot scroll up or down after using Word for instance). I know that this issue is well documented on your website. However, your solution to the problem is to install driver 16.3.4.0, which was preinstalled on my laptop. Just for the sake of it I have reinstalled it, but I am still facing this very annoying issue. I would like a quick response on your part as I am planning on returning the product if this issue cannot be solved.  Thank you, Alex Tremblay

Answer:Re: U310 Touch Hinge

I purchased a Lenovo U310 Touch last May and it has been working wonderfully until recently.  I've noticed in the last few weeks that every time I open or close the lid, the hinge makes a loud cracking noise and pops off at the ends. I can press the hinge cover back into place, but it just continues to pop off every time I open/close it. I contacted Lenovo Support about the issue, and even though my machine is still under warranty, they will not fix it without charging me because they have no proof I didn't break it myself (which I find absolutely ridiculous; I haven't dropped or damaged it in any way, and if you look at the computer you can clearly see it is otherwise in perfect condition.)That being said, has anyone else experienced this problem with the U310? Does anyone have any suggestions to fix it? I am concerned that it will just get worse and eventually affect my display.

I'm not an owner of your model, but in looking over links you have provided, I believe the picture shown in the eBay sale is incorrect.  The hinges pictured in UK PC Parts link would be the correct ones when compared to Page #90 of the diagram shown in your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual and the pictures shown in the additional eBay search I did.  Here are the results...

eBay search:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XIdeaPad+U310+hinge...

Hardware Maintenance Manual:

If you are still interested in the hinges offered by that eBay seller you might want to send them a message and have them verify that the picture is correct for what they are selling.

I have a U410 Touch (which is very similar to the U310, I believe), and here's what I did with mine:

Ordered factory recovery media from Lenovo.
Opened U410 to remove 1TB HDD and 24GB mSATA SSD.
Installed 120GB mSATA SSD
Powered up, entered BIOS, and changed UEFI option to Legacy/BIOS/CSM option (I forget the exact name)
Installed Windows 8 using recovery media and external USB DVD±RW disc drive
Downloaded Windows 8.1 ISO from MSDN and extracted that to a 8GB USB flash drive
Ran Setup (filename: SETUP.EXE) from USB flash drive to install Windows 8.1

At that point, I was up and running.  For some reason, the Windows 8.1 installer didn't like the Product ID Key that came with the system's Windows 8.0 installation, so I temporarily entered one of my MSDN license keys while installing it.  Afterwards, I used the Software Licensing Manager (filename: SLMGR.VBS) with the /IPK option reinsert the Lenovo product ID key.  You can look up yours up before installing Windows 8.1 with a utility like Belarc Advisor or Nirsoft Produkey.

I've been dealing with a frustrating issue with my U310 Touch for a while now and thought I'd come here to see what else I should do or if anyone else has experienced this. Basically, sometimes I cannot move the mouse via touchpad. I don't have a bulletproof way to replicate the issue at will, but it seems that this comes up only when the system is being taxed. I think this is happening when RAM gets full, as if the touchpad driver is purged from memory and I have to wait for it to relaunch. I'm not sure. I have seen that there was a previously discussed issue like this when using Microsoft Office, but that is by no means the only time this happens. I generally observe this while using a browser only, though it certainly gets worse as more programs are in use. When this happens, there is usually first a period of lag system-wide, say because of a web page loading or something like that. This is very brief and acceptable since it is a mid-range machine. But everything else, including the touchscreen, will return to working order before the mouse bounces back. The pointer is visible but won't move and I can usually even input clicks, despite the fact it doesn't move. It will last from 15-60 seconds. I haven't figured out anything I can do that makes it come back, short of waiting. Because of the way it happens, I think it is a software issue. My spouse also has a U310 Touch and has the same problem. I have done a clean install of Windows, reinstalled drivers... Read more

Answer:Touchpad sometimes unresponsive - U310 Touch

I do not have a solution, but I too have this problem on my U410(non touch). It only happens once or twice a week so it doesn't bother me that much. I have to hibernate my laptop and turn it back on to fix the problem. I updated my synaptics drivers from 17.0.8 to 17.0.19 to see if that fixes it, but it doesn't happen that often so I can't get back to you for a while. Hopefully, someone knows what's causing the issue.

hello, Today i spilled water over my lenovo u310 touch and at the moment it is still working.I saw that some lenovo's are water resistent so i wonder if the u310 touch is also water resistent? If its not what should i do to prevent any water problems with my u310 touch? Thank you in advance for your help!

Answer:U310 touch water resistent?

Hi Kelly,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

No, neither the keyboard nor the rest of the computer are waterproof. The drain holes drain water out but once it's in there, it can do damage despite this.  Lenovo won't honor the warranty if there's even the slightest evidence of water spills.

If you have water spillage, you should leave it to dry for two days before reattaching the AC and battery.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Shashi

I purchased a U310 Touch (with Intel Centrino N 2230 adapter) and I am also having trouble with slower connection (between .5 and 5 mbps) in rooms other than the room where the wireless router is located.  With the U310, I'm getting closer to 30mbps in the room with the router and at 25-30mpbs with other laptops in other rooms.  I did update the driver on the Intel site and made the recommended router setting and power management changes.  Tech support claims that there's nothing wrong with my hardware and recommended that I call software support to see if they can assist, but software support will charge me for a diagnosis (not covered by warranty).  Will they be able to help fix the problem or should I just throw in the towel and return the laptop (I'm still within 21 days)?  Thanks.

Hey guys,I am having some issues with a u310 touch. When I recieved it, the laptop had come installed with windows 8 but had been downgraded to windows 7.  The main issue occurs when I turn on the computer.  Usually the power button lights up and the fan turns on, as well as one faint beep from inside the computer.  The screen remain black.  There is no logo, no opportuniry to boot into the BIOS.  OKR results in the same problem.  If I hold the power button and restart it 20-30 times, eventually the screen comes on and the computer functions fine until it shuts back down again. I am out of warranty so I tried to troubleshoot it myself.  A bight light shined into the screen does not show a faint image.  I have taken off the back panel and removed and reinstalled the RAM.  I have removed the battery and pressed the power button and held it multiple times to drain caps.  I have unpluged the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS.  I updated the system to Windows 10.  I am going to try to reflash the bios with with latest Lenovo update (IDK when that was done last).  I am having trouble figuring out if this is a hardware or software issue.  When it boots, it runs flawlessly,  The screen is bright.  I have seen some folks with similar problems but I havent found a soilution.  Any ideas?

Answer:U310 Touch bootup issue

I am currently booted, are there any diagnostic tools you guys would recommend running to help determine the problem?

Hi all;Just upgraded the 24GB msata to a 120 GB msata and I'm having trouble cloning the hard drive over to the ssd with Clonezilla. The plan is to move the OS to the msata ssd and wiping the original hard dirve and using it for back-up and storage. The BIOS is current set to AHCI with Lagency OS support active but trying UEFI first. I've done this before with win 7 systems; but this is my first foray into win 8.1 w/UEFI. The system does reconize and access the 120 GB Crucial M500 msata disk; it just won't mirror the 8, win-8 partitions. I reinstalled the HD and rebooted the system; to ensure I didn't mess something up and everything seems to be working; though on the slow hard drive. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. PS. I did boot from the USB drive with Clonzillia on it and used the drive to drive cloning option

I just bought a new ideapad U310 Touch. All keys and hotkeys on the keyboard work well, except for the "close window" hotkey, supposedly corresponding to Alt + F4. When I press it it just fires a normal F4, so I have to hold Alt in order to close my windows. It's obviously not a big deal, but I hope there is a fix to put it back in order. I downloaded and installed the keyboards drivers without success. I don't want to run an additional program and scripts just for that function.

I'm running Windows 8.1. I started having issues the day before yesterday when I downloaded Skype. It froze several times, task manager couldn't kill it, and I had to turn my laptop off to close the program. After doing that, I was able to use Skype and did so for a few hours with no other issues that night. Yesterday, while in the middle of watching a video on Chrome, the video suddenly froze and it popped up saying that Chrome wasn't responding, did I want to wait or close it. I selected close but it wouldn't close, just kept running the "Windows is looking for a solution to the problem" thing for several minutes so I had to end Chrome through the task manager. When I tried to reopen it, it wouldn't respond. I restarted and decided since I'd had no issues before installing Skype, I would uninstall it and see if that helped. I also uninstalled a few games I no longer used in case I was having space issues. I then had it download and install any Windows updates, restarted after that was done, and was able to use Chrome again. A few hours later (the computer had been asleep for at least two or three hours,) I was successfully browsing when I tried to view a news site and Chrome froze/stopped responding. I tried to select "close the program" again but got same result, it wouldn't close, kept saying "Windows is looking for a solution to the problem" so I used the task manager to close it again. Repeat the earlier issues, couldn't reopen Chrome, turned laptop off and back on... Read more

I purchased a U310 Touch back in May and I love this machine, it is amazing. I am a tech so I am periodically entering my BIOS to disable secure boot and boot into a USB flash drive to test some features I am constantly developing for use on customer machines. I attempted to enter setup today (pressing onekey recovery button and clicking enter setup) and instead my computer just went straight to Windows 8 ... thinking this was a fluke I tried again using FN + F2 ... again straight to OS ... finally I tried FN + F12 ... still nothing ... pulled HDD and SSD, removed battery, held power for 30 seconds, still no luck. SO my computer works as far as going to my OS, but I am unable to enter setup or change boot devices ... I was thinking I could just reflash my BIOS using the one from the drivers section of the Lenovo Support page but guess what isn't there? The original BIOS. So I was wondering does anyone have a backup of the U310 Touch BIOS? and or a good tool to reflash the BIOS? I could obtain a clean BIOS backup from a demo computer at my work, but I need a tool to reflash it that works in Windows 8. Ideally I would love a Lenovo tech to post an updated BIOS so I could just install that (I am lazy, sue me)

Hello, I have had a U310 Touch for over three years now and I have recently discovered that after the upgrade to Windows 10 the BIOS is now nonexistant. When I run the command prompt to identify the BIOS it is blank where it should show which version I have. When pressing the NOVO button I receive the option screen to boot to BIOS or Boot Management screen but no matter what option I select the OS boots regularly. Is there any known solutions for this. When searching the drivers and downloads section with the computer in question no BIOS files appear. Thanks

So I got rid of the windows 8 on my new ideapad u310-touch, thinking it might help me keep my sanity, however I might have messed something up, let me outline what I did and what its DOING now, to see if anyone has any solutions

PLEASE NOTE: I have not installed any real important software yet on the NEW OS so I am open to erasing and starting again if necessary.
Also I did not erase the SSD at all it still contains the files that came with the ideapad orginally

SO i went back to bios and formatted the 500GB drive that was in the ideapad, leaving the ssd partitions intact
I then installed windows 7 ULTIMATE on it, i then downloaded a bunch of the drivers straight from Lenovo site, and there were ALOT of them. SOme said they were not compatible even though they were for windows 7.

I thought everything was going goo, the only thing i COULD NOT install was the wifi, i tried all the wifi drivers on the lenovo site including wimax (which apparently is not on this machine) and none of them work, as I write this I am using an external usb wifi adapter.

Here are the known issues at this time

1. no wifi internally, bluetooth works as does LAN
2. when the ideapad is not used for awhile it goes to sleep, but it does not wake up, i have to hard reset the machine every time (????)
3. this is silly but the mousepad loses "focus" when I am typing, ill be typing and then the cursor will be somewhere else on the screen, this is really annoying

I just purchased my u310 touch from Staples tonight.  Within the first hour, while using it, it just shut off.  No "Windows is shutting down..." screen.  It was like it just ran out of battery (even though it was plugged in and the icon said it was plugged in and charging at 55%). After some googling and seeing similar issues with the 310 and the 410, I tried installing the latest drivers that the support staff on this forum linked.  I installed every single one relevant to my machine, ensuring I chose the correct driver for my OS (win8 64).  Still  happening. The event viewer shows: Source: Kernel Power.  Description: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first.  This error coudl be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. So, I reset everything back to factory settings using the built-in restore partition.  Still broken. I'm at a loss here.  Any ideas?  If I can't figure it out soon, I'll just return it to Staples in a few days.  Thank god they have a great return policy!

hi duckhunter9,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try to:
1. Download and install HWMonitor and observe your CPU and GPU temps. (if you reach temps above 100°C, overheating might be the cause of your issue)

2. Perform a clean boot and observe the PC. (this isolates 3rd party apps that might be the cause of the problem)

Let me know your findings,

Hello Lenovo,I'm a business management student from India.I purchased Lenovo Ideapad U310 Touch model this May from the US (through Amazon) and have been using it without any issues till the last month. Last month I noticed that the hinge had developed tension and there was additional pressure on the lid or the screen area while closing. I thought it would be a routine issue and took it to my college's hardware repair center, but they suggested I handle the issue via Lenovo Support as it required opening the laptop. When I checked Lenovo support through customer care (India), I was told that the U series is not covered by International warranty. But I checked if the Lenovo service center would still have a look at the issue, to which I was told that it would be chargeable. I thought it was fair enough and took the laptop to the service center in Jamshedpur this afternoon. To my utter disappointment, the technician was unable to open up the area near the screen (where the problem was supposedly), but he also got the screen cracked while trying to. Now I'm left with a laptop that cannot be used as even though the screen display is intact, the touch sensors detect screen touch near the cracked area and keep the cursor rooted to that point. Also, the issue with the hinge could also not be fixed. All to add to the woes, I will have to manage a few days (don't know how many) without a laptop and also shell out the expense from my pocket! Now my question is, will the screen for Ideapad... I bought the U310 refurbished from Lenovo. I have sent this into them twice now, once to replace the mother board and once to replace the hard drive I believe. I don't understand, it will work fine for 5 minutes and than it will start freezing up and the cursor will just spin saying "so and so" not responding. I am fit to be tied and I just want this thing to work correctly. I took it to my local computer shop but if they open it than it voids the 12 month warranty so they do recommend me dealing directly with Lenovo.  Lenovo has been great about picking up all expenses including shipping but now I am starting to get beyond mad about this machine not working correctly. Answer:Lenovo U310 Touch constanty freezes up

hi mattstilwell5,

Welcome to the Forums.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Just to verify, is the system configured with an 500GB+24GB or 32GB SSD drive?

If it is, then you may want to look into the following:
1. Check if data caching is working (the mSATA SSD is used as a cache drive for frequently accessed files).

   - If the machine is using Diskeeper's Expresscache, type  eccmd -info on an elevated command prompt. It should show a result similar to this picture.
   - If nothing happens after typing the command, open Control Panel > Programs and uninstall Expresscache. Reboot the machine and observe.

Note:
Uninstalling the Expresscache software will remove the data caching feature, however, you may re-install it using this guide.

2. Run an error scan on the HDD/SSD drive (i.e. by using HD Tune) to verify its stability.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

Ran into some trouble today where one of my U310 touches will not boot into the O/S. At first, it was stuck on the Lenovo screen so I reset the CMOS to clear that.  Once I put the laptop back together, I was able to access and reset the BIOS.  Now when I start the laptop, it gets stuck at the Boot/App menu.  When I select one of the drives, the screen goes black for a while and the Boot/App menu comes back up.  Below is a link to the screen I am seeing. Boot/App menu Has anybody else had this issue or know of a resolution?

Not sure whats ging on with my Ideapad. I can see that the power is working but the screen remains BLACK. I think it may be the display card, but I'm not sure. Can anyone point me in the right direction to a good Lenovo Repair store close to Philadelphia? Any advise would help! Thank you!

Answer:DISPLAY PROBLEM Ideapad U310 Touch

Hi DILEMMA123,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As I understand that you are facing issues with your Ideapad U310 touch display, however when you power on the unit there is power but  no display and the screen remains black.

Here are the troubleshooting steps that you may try
Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help. - Start by doing a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then try booting it up again. - If this will not work, do test the AC adapter if it's working properly. Remove the battery and power the laptop with just the AC adapter connected and see if it will boot up or not. do also try a different AC adapter that has the same voltage and see if it will work or not. - Proceed with reseating the RAM's if trying a different AC adapter will not work, remove them all for couple of seconds then put them back in making sure everything is seated properly. - If it will still not work, connect an external monitor and see if you'll get any display from it. If there's a display on the external monitor that could mean that the problem is the built in display.  - But if there's still no display on the external monitor that means the problem lies in the motherboard.
In addition, here are further service centers that you can also check
I hope the above information helps.

I've seen other people hovering their stylus to piont at their touchscreens. From what I've read, a screen needs a digitizer to do this and the u310 touch does have a digitizer. So i think this should work but, I want to make sure before i buy it. any information on this will be helpful.

Answer:can I use a active stylus with my u310 touch laptop?

I have use my stylus from my ipad in my unit and it's working fine. You do need a digitizer pad & pen if you are into drawings or Art for precision.

Purchased this laptop a few months ago for daughter to take to college in a few weeks. It constantly hung up and wouldn't shut down so I tried to do a factory reset using the One-Key button on the side.  The screen said it worked and gave me the option of shutting down or restarting so I tried to restart but now it is just spinning. It just spins and spins (the icon) for hours. How long should this take? Should I interrupt this with a hard stop or try something else. This is the second "factory" reset I've tried and I am not getting a good feeling about this.

Answer:Factory Reset not Working U310 touch

Definitely having issues restoring the laptop to factory defaults. It goes through the restore, then this time I opted to shutdown. Waited 15 minutes and then hit the power button. Screen just sits there displaying "Lenovo" and the rotating dots just turn and turn. It has been 10 minutes. Even my old dell boots faster than that. What do I do now? There are no optical drives and the boot option never takes me to a Bios.

My lenovo u310 touch had wifi issues - I had to reinstall the drivers for the centric wifi adapter multiple times to get wifi to work, and it would stop working (multiple times a day, sometimes every few minutes). In order to troubleshoot, I opened up the computer, unplugged and reseated the wifi adapter, and assembled the case back. Pretty straightforward procedure, no damage or force involved. However, the computer is suddenly dead - no response on powering on or plugging into charge. No leds coming on, nothing. Any ideas? Thanks!

Answer:U310 touch won't turn on after opening case

Hi ayushagarwal26,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If the problem started after you put back the parts, I suggest you start it backwards.

If the computer is having issue powering up like No power light come on when you turn it on there might be a problem with the connection of the Power related devices
Please see the maintenance manual of your system here.

Look at page 65

I've highlighted those components you need to check. Try Unplugging them and reseating them firmly.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

I am having major issues with the internet connection on my U310 touch. My warranty expired in December of 2014, but I was not aware of the issue until the February of 2015. Prior to February, I used the hotspot feature on my phone for internet. The phone was always within 5 to 10 feet of my laptop. I just had home internet installed in my house and now I have found out how awful this laptop is. My internet is not that great to begin with. I pay for 10 mbps but get only get 5 to 8 mbps. Here is the problem: If I stand right next to my router, I can pull 7-8 mbps download speeds. If I am literally 36 feet from my router where I normally do my computer work, I only get 0.20 mbps to 1.10 mbps download speeds. I use Google Play Music. I cannot play one song without constant buffering. I just tried to stream some music before writing this post. My wife has an Asus U50F. Sitting right next to me, I logged onto her laptop and could stream music with absolutely no issue. I have searched for hours and tried a few fixes, but still nothing has worked. I had read about a possible manufacturing issue for laptops made prior to April of 2012, but found that my laptop was made in October of 2013. I called lenovo support and their ridiculous suggestion was for me to pay $20/month for them to optimize my computer. They did a remote in to my laptop, ran a "diagnostics" test and said that there was an issue because I had two extensions enabled. I had disabled all extensions before... Read more

So I have a Lenovo u310 touch laptop that I posted about previously. I bought a new hinge and I carried it to the shop to get it replaced as I am in jamaica away from licensed Lenovo repairs plus my warranty ended. Problem is I've realized that there must be two models of this laptop. One where the bezel can be pried off and one where it can't. In mine the screen and bezel is one and the repair man isn't sure how to pull the screen to show the hinge. Is it a case where the whole top half has to be replaced or there is a way to open the top half, remove the old hinges and install the new ones without destroying the digitizer. Please help ASAP because to replace the whole top half would be out of my budget right now

Answer:Lenovo u310 touch hinge issues

Unfortunately I was unable to locate any documentation or instructional videos on disassembling the lid of your model.  I did find a Lenovo Training Video on the U330 Touch model which might give your repair person an idea on how the lid is assembled if Lenovo used the similar design on the U310 Touch.  Here is a link to that video and the topic would be LCD, LCD Removal.........

Hello you all,So I'm having this issue with my computer, I bought my laptop in 2014 and I got the screen broken due to malfunction of the hinges. My wife got a U310 Touch today which is a nice little computer. However it came with Windows 8 and she prefers Windows 7, so I took care of clearing the hard drive and installing Windows 7. We installed all the Windows 7 drivers from the Lenovo support site however the touchpad drivers fail to install. I tried manually installing the Synaptec drivers but it told me I don't have a Synaptec device. I then installed the Cypress drivers manually and rebooted but then the trackpad doesn't work at all. I looked in Device Manager and the Hardware ID for the PS/2 Compatible Mouse says SYN2B0B which appears by all internet research to be a Synaptics hardware ID, which would make it understandable that the Cypress driver didn't work but really irritating that the Synaptics installer won't run because it says I don't have a Synaptics device. What should I do? The default Microsoft drivers are OK but she really wants to disable the tap to click and adjust some of the other settings that aren't available without real touchpad drivers.

Hi TC22 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can consider LCD panel replacement first since performance and functions are ok.
This can be considered specially if connecting to an external monitor shows normal.

Using the part number to search for parts from the parts looks up page for pricing and availability.

Hope this help answer your query.

Hi,Strange problem with my U310 Touch running Windows 8.1.  The touchscreen seems to be registering ghost clicks. So, without my wanting to, random places on the screen get clicked: applications are opened/closed/messages get opened... I can see because it the touch is marked with a kind of ripple on the screen. But this has made my laptop unusable if the touchscreen is enabled. I have temporarily fixed it by disabling my touchscreen from Device Manager>Human Interface Devices> HID - compliant touch screen. Tried rebooting a couple of times thinking the problem may be fixed. No luck! Appreciate any help so that I can actually use the touchscreen. bestS

Answer:U310 Touch Ideapad - ghost clicks on touchscreen

hi SurenB,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The ghost click(s) that you're experiencing is most likely caused by a faulty digitizer. The digitizer acts like a sensor that sends a click simulation everytime you touch the screen (which explains the ripple marks).

If you have purhcased the Ideapad U310 Touch in India, I recommend you report the issue ASAP.

I've been running Windows 10 flawlessly for the past month or so.  All of a sudden my battery would stop at 90% (I had this problem in Win 8.1 and several battery guage resets worked). I tried running the reset from energy management but it would just run forever and never finish.  I tried running down the battery manually and letting the computer sit for several hours.  After plugging it in it would climb to about 60% and then say plugged in not charging.  It's very erratic now and will often not charge, and when it does it doesn't go past 60%.I've tried uninstalling energy management completely with no luck.  I've reinstalled it and run the guage reset with no luck.  It will now finish (as opposed to running forever) but I can't get the battery past 60%. How do I fix this?  Running the guage reset actually made the problem much worse and I haven't been able to get it fully charged or even to 90% since...

Hello, I recently installed a new SSD in my U310 laptop and put Windows 10 on it. Everything was working fine until I ran the Bios update found on Lenovo's website located here. After the update installed without any error messages, the machine rebooted and I was left looking at the boot menu. I selected the ssd and the screen went blank for 15 seconds or so and then the boot menu appeared again. I've restarted the machine several times, tried booting from usb, and even tried putting the old hard drive back in but I just keep getting the blank screen and then back to the boot menu. Nothings working. When the computer first starts it doesn't show a lenovo logo or any text. Because of this it seems that I'm unable to get into the bios too. What do I do here? Answer:U310 Touch Laptop (IdeaPad) hang on recovery

Hi faye83,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You might need to complete a recovery to get the system working again,
You can get recovery CD if you call Technical Support in your location and ask for the CDs.
The only concern is to get your files out of the system for back up before you run the Recovery.
You might need to remove the HDD and plug it in on a Different computer to pull out the data and back it up first.
After that you can run the Recover CD to Restore the system back to a factory settings

Hope this helps

Hi I finally decided to upgrade my 4 year old Ideapad Y550 and I am quite happy with my U310 so far. This is based on the Elan touchpad. Do you think the one finger scrolling is similar to the edge swipe? Maybe its not enable. Two or more finger scrolling is under multifinger configuration menu. But there is no scrolling option in One finger menu but only the edge swipe option.

The touch - pad has stopped working after the update, I tried to install fresh drivers & also driver form the synaptic website, still the problem persist. Does any one have the same problem??

Answer:U310 touch-pad stopped functioning after WINDOWS 8.1 UPDATE 1

hi sog1986,

Welcome to the Forums.

I haven't seen this problem on the U310 unit here in the lab.

To verify if this is a hardware issue, can you try to:
1. Boot in Safe Mode and observe if the mouse works (in this mode, Windows will use a generic touchpad driver)

or

2. Do a hard shutdown. Once the unit is powered off, press the OneKey Recovery button. The machine will now boot to the hidden recovery environment where the touchpad can be used to navigate.

If the mouse only works on the second instance then it's most likely a driver issue on the OS level. In this case, you can continue with the OneKey Recovery which will allow you to go back to WIndows 8. From here, you can try upgrading again to Windows 8.1 and observe.

SO Flashback, bought my U310 touch last september in the US, after i arrived home the hinges started making a cracking sound. And so a few weeks ago the screen completely fell out (I was so shocked). Anyway, I took the PC into my local rep who repaired it, since i still had the warrently on it. Its good now, in that my hinges don't make that cracking sound anymore, but now for the current problem. When i swipe from left or right my charms don't appear. Only when i change my resolution from 1366*768 (recommended) to a resolution of 1280*768 does my charms show up when i swipe the screen. If anyone knows how to fix it, without changing my resoultion, ur advice is welcome. If not, I'll just take it back into my local rep before my warrenty expires.

Answer:U310 Touch charms no longer shows up after screen is swiped

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:1. At the Windows 8 Start screen, open Control Panel. You can find Control Panel by either typing it in to evoke the Search Charm or by using the Windows Key + X shortcut.2. Open the PC Settings applet in Control Panel.3. Under "Display options", select the "Reset" button. This will restore the default calibration of the touch screen. GuruAid

I spend almost 80% of my day in front of laptop or computers, running simulations, preparing ppts or report.Liked the looks and light weight of the LENOVO Ultrabook U310 touch laptop so much, that I ended up buying it.Except for look and light weight the laptop and LENOVO have turned into a big disappointment.Found the laptop extremely slow.. on top of it, the LCD hinge broke down within few weeks. The latest problem is with connecting external monitors or projectors. The laptop connects external monitors only if I uninstall driver and reinstall it. The connection is again lost if I reboot, and the driver again needs uninstalling and Reinstalling to connect any external monitor. Appreciate any suggestionsBest,Sudhir

My IdeaPad U310 Touch running Windows 7 is having touchpad problems. With no touchpad drivers installed, it shows up as a generic "PS/2 Compatible Mouse" and has basic functionality - I can move the pointer and click, but no gestures, scrolling or other touch features.

Link to image 1

I then installed 0wto11ww.exe, "TouchPad Driver (Synaptics, Cypress)" from http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-u-series-laptops/ideapad-u310-... . Version 15.3.33.0/2.3.6.31, released 4/24/2012.

After installing, I manually updated the driver via Device Manager and rebooted. Now the computer identifies the touchpad as a "Lenovo pointing device".

However, the computer doesn't respond to the touchpad at all. No mouse moving or clicking is working. Enabling/disabling the touchpad via Fn+F6 has no effect. I rebooted in safe mode and the touchpad was still unresponsive.

Link to image 2

I think I'm on the right track, because when I installed 0wto11ww.exe, the touchpad configuration tab showed up in control panel's "Mouse Properties". I can configure all the touchpad's advanced features now, but Windows 7 continues to ignore the input.

Any ideas on how to further troubleshoot this issue? Thanks!
