U410 Touch Battery Issue - Not charging

Question: U410 Touch Battery Issue - Not charging

Hi, I notice that my Lenovo U410 touch is stopping charging the battery when it reaches 59-60%. The message in the tray is that it is connected but not charging. If I go to Lenovo Energy Management > Battery Gauge Reset > Start It starts charging again, but it sticks at 99% and never finishes the process.I left the notebook one day turned on until draining the battery and connected the power again but it always stops at 59%.Please, what shoud I do to charge the batery to 100% again?I`ve recently updated to Windows 8.1. Thank you, Daniel

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try Opening Lenovo Energy Management check the battery TAB and make sure that it is on Maximum Battery Life.

If the Charging still stops at 59-60%, Try Uninstalling and resintalling the Lenovo Energy Management.

Answer:Z500 touch battery issue plugged in not charging

hi lebanese,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you're following this article on how to fix the battery charging issue for the Z500 Touch but a "No battery attached" error appears, try to turn the computer off and hold the power button for 20secs. When done, boot back into Windows and check if the battery is now detected.

If same "No battery attached" error appears then I'm afraid this firmware update won't work as the battery or the connection of the battery to the motherboard might be defective (the battery needs to be connected for the firmware update to work).

- Link to picture

I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue as you may need to send the unit for service.

Hi, I set my laptop to "Battery protection mode" which is supposed to limit charging to 60%. I noticed that once my laptop is at 60%, it switches to A/C for a few minutes, then it discharges by 1% and then charges again to 60%. This process repeats every few minutes. Is this supposed to happen? I'm worried that each time it discharges and charges again, I am wasting a charge cycle.  When I allow it to charge to 100% under "Battery Fully charged mode", it will switch to A/C when fully charged and does not discharge again so I don't think there's an issue with my battery.  Thanks for any help!

Answer:Battery Protection Mode - U410 Battery fluctuates around 60%, keeps charging and discharging.

It is fine for the laptop dont worry.

HiThere is a setting in lenovo energy management which limits the battery charge limt to 60% and there after stop charging tilll battery level falls down to around 55%. This is the battery protection mode(In some laptop it is optimize for battery life or similar). Just open energy management and go to battery settings by clicking the icon. So your battery might be fine.Regardd

I bought my laptop 7 months ago and it suddenly won't charge. Even when the battery is drained. I thought it might start charging after that from reading the complaints online, and it does, but the light flashes intermittently for a minute or two before dying out. When I turn my laptop on it only has 5 minutes and every time I plug it in to charge, the light either doesn't light up or it flashes for a short while. My mum bought it for me from Hong Kong and the original receipt is lost so I can't take it in to service in NZ even though it has warranty. I really want it fixed fast because I need it to study and exams are coming up right now. Thank you to any help!! Eva

Hi, My laptop is 7 months old and when it started having battery issues. The battery icon would sometimes show that it's not charging event though it was plugged in. Now, it's not charging, it has no power, and when I press the power button I don't even get three led flashes like I used to when it was dead and not charging. I really want to take it to a specialist but I have no warranty in NZ because the U410 model isn't sold here so I would greatly appreciate any help on solving this problem. Thank you Eva

My Ideapad U410 Touch is less than a month old (and I love it), but the battery life is worrying me. Problem: When I first got the laptop, at around 50-60% battery remaining, it estimated around 4 hours of battery life, which roughly matches the estimated battery life. It quickly dropped to around 2.5 hours after around the first week -- I can attribute this drop to a new unit, even though it is half of the estimated battery life given by Lenovo. Unfortunately, I checked it again the other day, and it now estimates 1.25 hours at around 50-60% remaining. Details:Power setting: I keep it on the 'Balanced' power setting most of the time, and each of these estimates was given while on this setting. I rarely put it on anything else, but I have tried out the Performance and Lenovo Dynamic settings during games, but only while I was plugged in. Maximize X: Once I discovered the 'Maximize battery lifespan' option, I have left it on that setting except for a couple of times when I needed a full battery. Other: I have kept the default setup for the most part. I did upgrade to Windows 8 Pro (from my university) a couple of weeks ago, but the time frame doesn't correllate with the battery life drop. I did run the battery gauge reset when the first drop occurred. EDIT: Also, I've been keeping the screen brightness around 30-40% almost all the time (it's still brighter than my old screen). Also, most of the time I've been editing / writing in Word. Some I... Read more

Answer:U410 Touch Battery Life Down by 75% After a Month -- Help?!

hi muppetjones,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Your problem might be similar with this thread

Like what neokenchi suggested
What you can try is to:
1. Perform a battery gauge reset.
2. Use Passmark's BatteryMon to monitor the battery health.

If the battery capacity is not near 59Wh or discharge rate is too high (battery should last roughly 5-8hrs on your daily usage) - then you may need to consider contacting lenovo for service.

Hope this helps,

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad u410, it is about 2 years old now, and I've been having charging problems. This started last year, where my laptop would be plugged in and down on the battery icon it would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." The battery would deplete completely, and when I try to charge it, the light would just blink. This eventually went away after about a month, I didn't do anything, and I could use my laptop again. However now it's back, at first I thought it was my charger, but I removed my battery and plugged it in and I can use my laptop without the battery. I tried to replace the battery, but it still did not charge. When I plug it in with a battery in the laptop, it will only blink a few times then stop entirely. Do I need to download any battery management drivers? I don't know what the problem is.

Answer:Lenovo ideapad u410 plugged in, not charging, battery depleted

I have my U410 Touch for 10 months now.  It always charged to 100 % but starting a couple days ago it only charged up to 90% and stoppped.  I called Technical support as I am still within warranty, they told me to perform the  the battery gauge, but it did not work.  Then they asked me to reinstall the battery driver and the energy management software but it is still not working not charging to 100%.  They now suggest to me to do one key recovey to reset to the factory setting to see if it works.  If not, they said I can send back the computer for service.  I am not sure if I should do the one key recovery becaue I will loose all my files and etc.  I am skeptical if this will work?  Any suggestion?  Should I just tell them I will send back the computer to Lenovo to fix the problem but then I will not have the computer for at least two weeks. ....

I just attempted to set up Arch from USB onto a Lenovo U410 Touch. I am trying to run pure Arch so I got rid of Windows 8 completely. When I try to boot, I get this message: "Intel UNDI. I can boot into Arch though USB by selecting "Boot existing OS". I've read other post on this forum and tried:Resetting the BIOS to default--> failed Changing boot orderI don't think it's a hardware/wiring issue since this was triggered by my attempt to install a new OS. Please help!!!

Hello, I purchased a new Y50 Touch laptop from Best Buy. The unit was working fine for the first few days but it suddently stopped charging. The battery indicator in Windows says "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". I reset the computer to stock using Lenovo One Key Recovery and the issue persists. When the unit is unplugged the charging indicator does not light up. The battery indicator light will only come on if I enable Conservation Mode in Lenovo Energy Manager but it still will not charge. Before I return this computer, that otherwise seems to function correctly, is there anything else I can try? I was hoping that maybe there is a battery firmware bug or something that is a known issue. Regards,Jason

I, too, have had the same issue that users in this thread are reporting. I have a U410 bought in the spring of 2014. There was a break at the hinge and the screen is separating from the lid. I've never dropped the computer, this issue arose one day after general, every day use. I've attached photos of the issue for others to reference.

Answer:[P400 Touch] Battery charging question

hi RicoChi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The laptop stops the charging when the battery reaches 100%
But thing there is that when it goes down to 99% It activates the charging and goes on as a cycle.

One factor of battery deterioration is the Full Charge and total discharge cycle.
the more this cycle happened on a battery the lesser it performs.

If you have a Lenovo Energy Management Software you will find this option

Maximum Battery Life- Let's you use the battery as any other laptop, Charges the battery up to 100%.
But the Optimized Battery Health  - Lets you charge only up to 60 Percent, preventing the battery from being stressed out from a 100 percent charge down to 0. This Feature lets you preserve the battery more.

You can get the software from your system's download site
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS034266

Hope this helps

I have a P400 Touch that was purchased just a few months ago (February I believe) and it's been great so far.  This past month, however, I haven't used it (until now) and noticed that my battery icon is stuck on "36% available (plugged in, charging)" but the thing is it's not charging whatsoever.  What's worse is that if/when I pull the adapter from the laptop, it cuts off completely.  The battery indicator light is steady white when the adapter is plugged in as well.  Anyone else have/had this or a similar issue and find a solution?  If so I need help ASAP, I am a highly mobile person and am always on the go with my laptop for the work I do.  Thank you in advance to any/everyone who can help!

My Lenovo U410 Touch recently got damaged - the hinge broke causing the touch screen to **bleep**.I was told that a repair was not feasible as none of the repair shops near me were able to source the parts needed.I therefore bought a new laptop. However, there is a lot of data on the old laptop that I want to access, including sorting out the licensing of MS Office (by uninstalling from the old one).I cannot do anything about it as the old machine is completely unusable as due to the touch screen being cracked, it seems to think it is constantly being touched in multiple places on the screen. This means that I cannot access the laptop to copy the data or uninstall Office. Anyone know any way around this that doesn't involve taking it to a repair shop to "recover" my data. Cheers

Have a Dell Inspiron laptop. Have had this system for about 4-5 years. Problem developed as follows:

About 3-4 weeks ago battery indicator read "9% available (plugged in, not charging)".

I did a search for this problem and found someone's solution was to go into Device Manager/Batteries and delete two files....MS AC Adapter and MS ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery... Then shut down, remove battery and restart. Shut down again, install battery and power up. Those files were rebuilt and the battery indicator read "charging". This worked once. Couple days later the computor malfunctioned again the same way. The above solution did not work the second time.

Bought a new battery, powered up without the AC adapter. Then ran the new battery down to about 6% (as per manufacturers instructions). Shut down, plugged the AC adapter in and powered up. Battery indicator read "12% available (plugged in, not charging)".

Shut down, removed the battery and have been running on just the AC Adapter for about two weeks now. Computer runs OK on just the adapter but seems a bit slow at times.

Today I shut down, installed the new battery and powered up (with the AC Adapter plugged in). Now the battery indicator reads "89% available (plugged in, not charging)". I unplugged the Adapter and the computer dimmed down quite a bit but stayed on.

My thinking is the Adapter is OK since the computer does run. The battery is new and the computer does ru... Read more

Hi there,
I've been having a strange issue with the battery/charging of my Acer Aspire 5742 laptop.
A couple of weeks ago, the laptop suddenly stopped charging. At this point I replaced the charger, and still it wasn't working, I then replaced the battery too. I found that both the charging cable and the battery had stopped functioning.(I.e. Would not work unless both new items were in use).

It then worked fine for the past 2 weeks, until yesterday. It wouldn't charge, but when I tried it this morning it charged once but now it won't work again.... I'm very confused.
If you need me to turn my laptop on to check things it currently has about 2 hours battery before it drains.

Any ideas?

This one has had me confused for some time. I am nearly certain at this point that it is the motherboard that will need to be replaced, but I wanted to see if there was anybody here that has dealt with this issue that may offer a little insight on the situation.

Specs:

HP Pavillion DV4-1435dx
4 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Windows 7 x64

I started having several issues with this machine on boot, so I upgraded the BIOS, OS and RAM. This resolved most of the issues but now we come to the part of the story that has me stumped. The machine is having an unusual charging issue. If I were to remove AC power from the unit while the battery is plugged in, I will not be able to charge the battery again until I completely power the unit off, remove the battery, plug the AC adapter in, and replace the battery. The exception to this rule is if I power the unit completely off (or hibernate it) and remove the AC, I will be able to plug it back in anytime before I power that unit back on and it will function normally. I have since replaced both the AC adapter and the battery, but the issue persists. I have checked all of the advanced power options in the control panel. I have not altered the registry in any way as of yet because I believe this is a hardware issue.

If anybody has any insight into this issue, let me know. I would very much like to know at least what is causing it to justify buying a new mobo or any more parts for the machine.

Thanks,

Don

Answer:Laptop Battery charging issue

The power settings have no effect if Windows is not running.

Has the battery been calibrated so that it reads the correct percentage and the circuitry knows when to start charging?

How do you know when it is "working" or not?

Weird thing happened the other day. I had my laptop off the charger running on battery power for a short while. I decided to charge the battery, so I plugged it back to the AC adapter. I checked on it a couple of hours later and the charge had not moved from the 80% it was at when I plugged it in. I then thought my battery was going bad so I replaced it with my spare battery which was at only 20%. I let that sit for a few hours and when I checked on it, it also had not charged a bit. I then thought it must be my adapter. I have a few of these and tried all of them throughout the next couple of days and none of them charged either battery as well. Also, when I remove the battery with the laptop plugged in, my laptop stays on. Therefore, I feel it is not the battery or the charger so what could it be? My laptop is a Dell Latitude C640. Please help!

Answer:Battery charging problem/issue

Must be the connection between the AC and battery that isn't talking.

Not sure what the solution is. If AC wasn't working at all, I'd suggest resoldering the PSU. But as it plain just doesn't charge, I'd send it into Dell. If it is under warranty, that is.

Edit: If you exhaust the battery, bringing it down to 0%, will it then recharge?

My laptop has been having battery issues for about a month now. First it was the battery draining very fast, and then my charging adapter started acting up. Recently, on February 19th, the battery icon would drain even though the charger was plugged in and the icon said it was charging. I don't know if it is a problem with the battery or if it is a problem with the motherboard but as of now I rely on the adapter only for power to my laptop. I hope someone can tell me if I just need to replace the battery or the whole laptop.

Hi

Im having a battery issue problem with my Qosmio f20-110 laptop.
Basically i cant turn on the laptop with the battery. I can only turn the laptop on with the ac adapter. When the battery is in the laptop and the ac adapter is plugged in to the mains, an orange light comes up indiacting that its being charged.

The light goes off after 4 hours (meaning its fully charged) and when i remove the ac adapter and try to power on the laptop using just the battery nothing happens. When the laptop is turned on with the battery inside, it boots up like normal and you can use the laptop.

In the toshiba power save application, it says the battery is charging and when the charging status goes to a certain point (it does different values), e.g sometimes at 46% charge level, the charging status freezes at this point, sometimes it freezes at 67%, somtimes it says battery remainig: N/A. if i now remove the ac adapter, the laptop will turn itself off!

When i start it again with the ac adapter, it says the battery status that was currently charged at e.g 67%, 46% as battery remaining 0% or battery remainnig N/A and the orange light comes on indicating that its being charged.
It can't be the battery, as I've tried 3 genuine toshiba batteries so far with exactly the same problem!

My bios is also upto date.
I'm using a genuine Toshiba ac adapter as well!

Hope someone can help

thanks

I remember another forum thread about the similar issue on a Qosmio G40.

Wait I will search in the forum a little bit?.

Ohh?. Here is it:

The solution is:
Access the BIOS and search the settings: AUTO POWER ON = ENABLED
Then choose the option called: WAKE-UP ON BATTERY and set it to ENABLED

Hopefully this helps

Replaced my dead battery on my HP, and it's been fine.  I haven't been leaving it plugged in constantly once it's charged.  It got low so I plugged it back in, last I'd checked it was 7 minutes to complete charge, I had lost track of time and checked again, and it's at 99% and saying it's plugged in, but not charging.   Any tips for how to resolve this error.  I don't want to have waste money by draining this battery and not being able  to charge it.   Thanks.

My laptop works fine only when ac adapter is connected and no battery inserted. However, when I inserted battery the ac adapter won't charge the battery. I downloaded HP UEFI tool for hardware diagnostic . I checked both battery and ac adapter. The results showed battery is o.k. but AC adapter was not o.k. as no ac adapter was detected and the test result was please connect the AC adapter you want to test. My question is do I need to replace the AC adapter ? or there is some problem with my charging jack / bios etc.

I own a Toshiba Satellite P25 running Windows XP SP2.

I'm in a funny situation regarding my battery/battery charging that I've never heard about...I recently purchased a new battery because my old one wasn't holding a charge. The battery WILL charge but only when the laptop is powered off or in standby. When the power cord is inserted, the instant I power on, the charge light turns off. I've checked the power while in Windows and it reads "AC power, discharging" instead of "charging." On very rare occasions, the charge light on the laptop will remain on for a while after I turned off the computer but will eventually go out.

I've tried playing with the amount of plug I insert into the laptop, but it makes no difference. I'm suspecting it's a hardware problem with the actual port inside the laptop, like maybe it's loose? But that doesn't explain (IMO) why it only charges when the power is off. Or is it likely to be the power cord itself?

I'd love to hear what you pros think. Thanks in advance!

Starting recently whenever my yoga 2 13 battery starts to get low and I plug it in to charge say at around 10-20%, the battery suddenly drops down to 0% and says "plugged in, charging" but doesnt actually charge. And if I unplug it, the computer instantly powers down and the only way to get it to charge is to shut it down and than turn it back on again. Please help was wondering if this was an issue with my yoga 2 13's battery or the charger or even something else entirely.

I also have started having this issue with my Yoga 2 11.Actually just now as I'm typing this message the problem occured. Went from 6% to 12% by the time i finished typing this message.  Note: This doesn't happen everytime and has happened twice during the couple weeks ive owned this laptop.

My Y530  w/Vista 64 does not charge its battery. After 13 months, the battery unit stopped working. It was dead and would not charge. Since it was after warranty, maybe it was just a bad battery. I bought an OEM battery replacement. It worked for two weeks and stopped working. Not sure if it ever charged in the Y530 or just ran out of juice since we started using it. Been using the Y530 on AC this whole time . I have reviewed all the forum items on the battery and tried them all and still doesn't work. My Energy Management version for Vista 64 is from 2008 it is lthe atest version (provides 4 power options) so does not related to the options in many of the forum Qs on battery charging issues. Though the problem sounds similar I don't have the option of using the Energy Mgmt version normally referenced. Even if it did, I am not sure that would fix the unit as I have tried all the power options. With the Lenovo battery - the battery charging led indicator flashes blue and says that it is charging but does not. With the OEM battery, the indicator flashes orange and does not say that it is charging. It does not recognize the OEM battery when you select battery information. Any other suggestions? I am about ready to dump the unit if I can't fix it soon. Never had this type of problem with my ThinkPads. Why are the IdeaPad charging mechanism so different?

Answer:Y530 Battery Charging Issue

hi ntw1,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If the battery was previous working and then suddenly it stops taking a charge, you could try to:
1. Open Device Manager (click start > type Device Manager))
2. Under Batteries, uninstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
3. Restart the computer and check if the battery starts charging

If the battery still won't charge, the battery sensor might have malfunctioned due to heat resulting to a dead battery. If you have bought your battery here, you can have it replaced since it carries a 1yr warranty. Support Phone List here.

Note:
Please have your Proof of Purchase ready as you may required to send it thru email for validation.

Hope this helps.

I have an HP HDX16-1200 CTO laptop and have been having a strange power problem for the last year.  The power supplied to the computer goes on and off when I'm using it (charging of the battery cuts in and out).  The strange thing that is happening is that the power supply remains on and charges the battery (does not cut in and out) when the computer is off, in sleep mode or hibernation.  The computer works fine with just the battery, but my computer does not work when I only use the power supply and no battery.  Geek Squad at Best Buy said it wasn't the power supply or the jack.  Thanks! O/S  - Windows 7/64-bit

But while connected to outlet and on the battery does not take any charge. The laptop starts with only adapter or battery just fine. I checked by reducing processing power to see whether the battery takes any charge but nothing happens. It neither charges nor discharge. I used batteryBar software to see charging rate. Hi guys,

ive got a reasonable new HP G70 notebook, what I have noticed is that if my laptop has been on for a while it feels hot, which is only natural I know but im not sure weither its overheating or not, now when I plug my powerpack in to charge my battery when the laptop has been on a while and is hot I get the message "plugged in, not charging".

If I turn the latop off and remove the power supply and leave it for a bit, then when I come back to it, the battery will usually charge as normal.

Does anyone have any idea which part of my laptop is fualty, is my laptop overheating and thats the problem which is causing my battery to not function right? or is just my battery fualty? or my adapter?

Or is the problem with vista settings etc? My laptop is still underwarrenty any help or ideas on what I should do before I ring up customer service? Any help would be great, thanks alot guys

Hi there!

I have an Asus laptop running Windows 7 that is about 4 years old. Recently it stopped charging and would just die. Tried a bunch of things (using a different charger/ using a different battery from the exact same brand/series of laptop etc) to no avail. I took it to a guy to fix and it turned out to be the motherboard - which had to be replaced (ouch ).
Anyway, while this did fix the initial problem it unfortunately caused another.

My laptop thinks it is constantly plugged in and charging even though it is running on battery and losing charge. Because of this issue, I no longer get the notifications that my battery is low and it has caught me out!
I spoke to the guy who fixed my laptop to begin with and he has no idea why it is doing this, and also informed me that it's not great for the laptop either (which I was worried about).

I have played around with the battery options/notifications in settings but this does not help at all. I use my laptop a lot for full screen things (gaming, movies etc) so I'm unable to keep an eye on the battery level.

I'd rather avoid having to pay out again, so does anyone know of perhaps a software program that I can download that would create a pop up on the screen when the battery reaches low levels? The Windows 7 one was great for that as it would pop up over whatever you had playing in full screen.

I've searched google and forums and I'm running out of ideas. I've checked some of the threads h... Read more

I've had my Essential G770 since January of this year, purchased it directly from Lenovo, and have had no problems previously. After shutting it off and on last week it was refusing to charge the battery even though it detected the AC adaptor. After a while it eventually began saying that it's charging, however, the percentage on the battery monitor never changes even when left charging over night. I contacted customer support over the phone and got a replacement battery. At first the replacement battery was charging normally. But when I turned it on again after a couple of hours the percentage was stuck at 50 and has not gone past that even after leaving it charging for 12+ hours. Then just to check, I put in the old battery and it was still showing the same issues. The system powers on fine with just the AC adaptor and the battery removed, which makes an adaptor issue seem unlikely, to me. I'll note that I'm using Linux on this computer, but that should not be relevant to the issue since this same issue appears on other Linux distrobutions I tried. One would even show that time left to charge was 0:00:00 when plugged in, and would then normally show the time left while on battery power normally when the AC adaptor was unplugged. If anyone has any insight into this issue before I go ahead and contact tech support again, it would be much appreciated. This just seems like a very strange issue ... Read more

Answer:G770 Strange Charging/Battery(?) Issue

I would suggest that it is either a faulty battery or charger. Since the battery was replaced and this fixed the problem (albeit temporarily) then it is possible the battery is once again faulty, maybe due to a faulty charger. Replace the charger and tell tech support to replace the battery again and always use a surge protector!

Hi,
My laptop is a Satellite M70-165 PSM70E. I'm using Windows XP Home. I recently bought a new battery and it is impossible to charge it above 50%. I updated BIOS to 1.70 (for non Windows Vista users) and I still have the problems aforementioned. I tried to dischage it completely and charge it again, several times, with no luck.

Is there any solution?

One more question. There is no "EC version" in BIOS, only "BIOS version 1.70". I hoped there will be some battery calibration or power management after BIOS update, but there is no "Power Management" menu in BIOS.

Is that correct?

Thanks in advance.

On the Toshiba EU driver page you can find one BIOS update.

My L755 is fairly new and was working fine. However, the battery is causing me concern. Today I turned on and the battery icon showed about 80%. I used the laptop, on battery, for around 10 minutes and the screen went blank and would not come back on.

I plugged in the mains and pressed the power button - it told me that is was recovering from a low power shutdown. I watched it charge, and it got to 80% in 15 minutes and sat there for 30 minutes before jumping to 100%. I unplugged the mains, and it went straight down to 80%. I suspect that the battery monitor software is to blame, but is there anything that I can do recalibrate it.

Then again, could it be a bad battery?

Answer:Battery Charging issue on Satellite L755-1LN

Hi

For me it sounds like battery issue? but try to calibrate the battery.
Remove/disconnect the AC adaptor and leave the notebook disconnected until the battery would be fully empty. Then connect the AC adaptor and leave it connected until the battery indictor would switch to green (or blue).

This procedure should be repeated two, three times to recalibrate the battery but if the battery is faulty this workaround would not help a lot.

This is the second new IdeaPad Y470 I've ordered from Lenovo in as many weeks that has the same exact problem as the first new Y470 I returned to Lenovo after only four days of use.  Simply put, the machine quits charging the battery for no apparent reason and on a completely random basis.  Note that I am fully aware of the difference between the Maximum Battery Runtime and Maximum Battery Health settings in the Lenovo Energy Management software.  The problem I'm experiencing occurs REGARDLESS of which of these two modes the machine is in, and it occurs regardless of which AC adapter is plugged in (I ordered a spare adapter with both of these machines, so the problem has occurred with four different AC adapters).  THIS IS IMPORTANT... WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS, THE ROUND MAIN POWER BUTTON LIGHT BEGINS TO FLASH, AS DOES THE WHITE POWER LIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOUCHPAD.  ALSO, THE BATTERY LIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOUCHPAD FLASHES RED.  When these three lights are flashing, mousing over the battery icon indicates that the machine is running solely on battery power, with no power being supplied from the AC adapter even though it is properly plugged in.  It doesn't even say "plugged in - not charging"...it's as if the AC adapter is not even plugged in.  And btw, the battery in both of these machines was properly installed.  This machine is only a week old, and this problem started within one da... I know the AC adapter doesn't have a three pronged plug, but the 2 pronged plug has a "fat" end that must be inserted correctly for the adapter to function properly. I've seen houses where some fool electrician has reversed the outlet wiring.  Buy a cheap AC Outlet Ground Tester like this: http://www.amazon.com/Electrical-Receptacle-Outlet-Ground-Tester/dp/B0012DHVQ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qi... Just a thought. I don't believe it's a problem in 2 DIFFERENT laptops, so I would look for a solution somewhere else. DragonRider

I have a new Satellite C50t-A-10J which has intermittent charging issues. Sometimes it charges ok other times it states plugged in not charging. When not charging if I click on the battery icon charging starts and continues ok.

Does anyone know of a more automatic solution? I have read about similar issue solved by uninstalling then reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager but am reluctant to try as the computer is new.

I can of course go back to the retailer but thought I would post just in case someone had a similar solution.

Thanks

Hi Geoff

I guess this is not system problem.
It looks like your battery is faulty and therefore I recommend contacting the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country to get an battery replacement.

Hello everyone.

My son brought over his Inspiron 8100...he said it was "dead". I tore it down and found a loose DC power board. I put it back together and it booted right up. Yay!

He brings it back 2 weeks later saying the battery won't charge. It runs perfectly using the AC adapter, but only with the battery removed. So I began testing...

I removed the battery and plugged in the AC adapter. It booted right up into XP. I then inserted the battery and the laptop changed from adapter power to battery power (this should not happen). The battery low indicator came on since the battery charge was low and it was not getting charged from the adapter. I removed the battery (laptop is still plugged into the wall), and the laptop shuts down (this should also not happen). I press the power button and it boots back into windows under the power of the AC adapter.

Here is what I do know. Just 2 weeks ago the battery held a charge for ~2 hours. I replaced the AC adapter and I know it works. Putting a battery into the system forces it to use Battery power instead of using AC adapter power and charging the battery as it should.

I have a pretty good idea what the problem is, but I don't want to lead anyones thinking, so I won't say yet. Here is your chance to shine! What do you guys think the problem is?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,I have a problem with battery charging and ac adapter in my lenovo B5400 laptop. At first, the battery was not charging when the ac adapter was connected ? the message was saying that ac adapter was connected but not charging, so I was using ac adapter only (no battery). Now, new problem appeared: when I turn the laptop on, this message is displayed: "Un-know adapter was connected system. To boot the AC adapter, please connect correct AC adapter with the system."I am using original battery and ac adapter provided with the laptop.Could you advise me what should I do to fix the problem or maybe the ac adapter and the battery should be replaced as the laptop is still under warranty (12months)?Thank you

I recently got a new Hp Omen 17-w033dx from Best Buy. I have noticed when the computer is idle it uses the battery instead of the charger, even though it's plugged in. When I get on the laptop the next day, usually it's shut itself down due to the battery being drained. It will only start charging the battery again if I unplug the charger and plug it back in, after this the charging resumes. Today the battery is currently at 55% and says (Plugged in, not charging) as I have not unplugged the charger and plugged it back in yet today as I wanted to see if it would begin charging on its own, which it isn't. I have to do this every day. Help would be appreciated!

I HAVE A SATELLITE TOSHIBA THAT I BOUGHT FROM AMAZON AND IS NOT UNDER ANY WARRANTY. COFFEE SPILLED ON IT WHILST I WAS DOING SOME WORK AND IT SWITCHED OFF.

I LEFT IT TO DRY AND WHEN IT WAS TURNED ON, IT WOULD NOT COME ON, I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL COMPUTER SHOP WHERE IT WAS CLEANED AND I WAS TOLD TO GET A NEW BATTERY, BECAUSE THE BATTERY WAS BAD, SO I GOT A BRAND NEW BATTERY FROM EBAY.

THIS TIME , THE PROBLEM WAS THAT, IT WOULD CHARGE FOR ONE MINUTE AND THEN STOP CHARGING. I DECIDED TO TRY THE OLD BATTERY WITH THE LAPTOP AND FOUND IT CHARGED FOR EVEN 2MINUTES AND SWITCHED OFF. THEN I CONCLUDED THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THE BATTERY BUT MAYBE FROM THE MOTHERBOARD. BUT SINCE IT IS A NEW LAPTOP I WAS ADVISED TO JOIN THE ONLINE TOSHIBA FORUM, SO THAT I WILL BE DIRECTED TO WHERE THE PROBLEM WOULD BE SOLVED PERMANENTLY.

PLEASE COULD ANY ONE HELP. I WOULD BE MOST GRATEFUL..

THANKS

What to say; the coffe has been spilled on the notebook and any fluid is not really good for a internal parts especially for the motherboard.

I have no idea what part has been damaged exactly due to the spilled coffee but it looks like an motherboard part is affected. Maybe the power supply electronic is faulty?

I think the notebook needs an check? and don?t ask any pseudo amateur technicians because such guys just talk about possible issues.

The unit needs to be checked by an professional technician (Toshiba authorized service partner in your country) who has some special tools and diagnosis software.

Then staurday evening, i handed it to a local repair shop who told me that power controller is faulty and sent me this pic(Attached below) on whatsapp, stating this needs to be replaced. He charged 1500 rupees for same. Today evening i got my laptop back and it is working as well but as and when i remove power cord, it shuts down completely/suddenly as if there is no battery installed. Last time when i used my laptop everything was working fine. Before i handed him my laptop i also noticed that battery light was glowing orange, but was not turning blue(Battery full light) even after hours of charging and i also left it for overnight charging but the next day still it was showing orange light only. Now the battery shows 98% charging when i hover my mouse on battery icon and keeps on showing same, it is not increasing. and if i try to remove power cord, laptop goes off completely. This week I've started having issues with my battery 2 charging. It has taken DAYS to charge to this point, wheras previously the whole thing would charge quite quickly.  Is battery #2 the dock? Is there anything that can be done to analyse the battery and fix this up, or does this mean it is on the way out and needs replacing? Pretty unimpressive for a device less than two years old and as high end as this is apparently meant to be.

Yesterday I bought U400-10N NB 13,3".
I have battery charge problem. I returned back to my seller and change notebook with same model.
But I have same charge problem. Comic - returned back again to my seller and they said that this is charging issue.

Problem: I plugged eclectric cable for finishing Vista system in new U400-10N. The battery lamp is red and battery connect problem write X on windows bar.
When I plugged off electric cable after 1 hour; the laptop has died. No battery life!

I called with Toshiba calling center in Istanbul. Nobody knows, nobody heard, nobody talk about it.

Sorry about my English.

Can you help me?

Answer:Satellite U400-10N: battery charging issue

Hi buddy

From my personal experience some computer dealers have no experience and from time to time they talk bu****t?
You shouldn?t believe everything what they said?

I read your message carefully and it would be very interesting to know if you used and connected the same AC adaptor to the U400 units.
According to your message a faulty AC adaptor could be possible!
Furthermore you should try different AC adaptors to ensure if an AC adaptor is ok.

If something is wrong with your hardware then make a call to the nearest local ASP (authorized service provider) and ask for the replacement or fix.
The guys should be able to help you...

Good luck and a feedback would be highly appreciated

Cheers

Hi,

I've found a number of threads with similar issues, but none of the solutions worked for me, so here it goes:
I have an L500-1GE, which is about 6 years old, but hasn't been used much.
Since yesterday, it won't charge when plugged in, and when I pull the plug, it immediately shuts down (everything goes black suddenly), although it shows the battery to have about 25% power.

I have just installed the newest bios (2.10) from Toshiba's official site, but I don't know if this has anything to do with the aforementioned issue.

Should I just buy a new battery, or is there something to try before that?
Thanks!

The battary plugged in, not charging issue has been posted multiple times in this forum. The solution being taking the battery out, uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Coplient Control Method Battery, then restarting the laptop. I have done this over 10 times now, and it works everytime. However, this has become an everyday issue and I am looking for a permanent solution. Is there a driver update from HP or Microsoft exist which would solve this problem?  All of my laptops drivers are up to date as per HP Support assistant software, and windows 10 is also up to date.  Please let me know if there is a better solution. Thank you,Amitava

Answer:T440s external battery charging issue

Hi P1c1u,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with External battery not charging on your ThinkPad T440s.
The problem you are running into is Power Manager conflicting with the 80% BIOS threshold.  I think you have not installed Lenovo power manager & Lenovo power management driver in your system, please install both the application and also to avoid this, either keep the Power Manager threshold for both batteries below 80%, or else both batteries above 80%.
Hope this helps.

I have Toshiba Satellite A200 and recently I have had some software problems with charging it :(

When the battery is on 99-96% it doesn't start charging when i plug the cable (and says that the battery is on 100%).
If it is below 96% it starts charging, but it stays too long on 99% than before :(

Is anyone familiar what I should do in order to start charging even if it is on 97% ( for instance :) )?

Answer:Satellite A200: Battery charging issue

Haven't observed this charging behaviour, but I can tell too, that the percentage is longer on 99 then on others. Why, I don't know.
And I have not watched if it is charging from 96, above, or below.

I think this is normal and would not call this an issue.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite C50-B919 which i bought 9 months ago... IT was working fine but all of a sudden it stopped working without the charger being plugged in!!!

I have to plug in the charger all the time!

On start up it shows that the RTC is low and i need to set the time... i tried following the instructions and had set the time as well...but it still didnt change any thing... once the charger is taken off it switches off!!

PLEASE HELP!!!

Waiting for your response!

Answer:Battery charging Issue on Satellite C50-B919

Hi

RTC battery seems to be empty and therefore the BIOS data and time will be reset always when the AC adaptor isn?t connected.
To charge the RTC battery, you have to keep the AC adaptor connected for about 18-20 hours and the notebook must be ON!!!
Then the RTC battery would charge.

However, the main battery seems to be empty too and does not hold the charge anymore.
Probably you will need to replace the main battery.

Dear team, I?m writing in relation to a Y50-70 touch laptop which I purchased whilst I was visiting USA last year. In past couple of months, the battery is not holding the charge properly and only lasts about an hour or so, even on a full charge. Given the issue, I?ve checked Lenovo support forums and it was suggested to run battery manager app and conduct a battery gauge reset. I?ve conducted the reset however it did not resolve the issue. As I?m living in Australia, I?ve contacted local Lenovo support however they were unable to assist. They further suggested contacting Lenovo USA and raising the issue with you guys..Due to differences in time zones, I?m unable to contact US based Internation warranty services. I?ve conducted further online enquiries which suggests the laptop may require battery replacement. Till now, I?m not really impressed by Lenovo AUS services who basically tried to palm the issue to US based Lenovo as the laptop was bought there. I would appreciate if the issue is resolved promptly. ThanksGurusev

After half an hour I noticed that still the battery level is 96% . When I put the pointer on battery guage, it's showed that "Plugged in, not charging". In my laptop battery is not removable, so I can't try removing the battery and putting it back again. I've restarted my machine many times but still the situation is same.

I did a search, but I could not find a- someone with the same issue and b- i tried some of the suggestions (toggling diffrent option in battery management program) and that didn't seem to work, but it did for a few others. My p500 shows that it is at 40% and that it IS charging (most of the other stops states that it isn't charging).  It could be that windows thinks the battery is charging, but it obviously isnt because when I pull the power plug, the laptop immediatley shuts off.  Obviously the battery doesn't have a charge. I got the latest version of the lenovo energy manager, but that didn't do anything.  Also, I don't recall the enery manager being there.  I am almost certain that it was not there prior to windows 8.1 upgrade. Device Manager shows all of the hardware with no missing drivers/unknown hardware. I have been running the battery conditioner which is suppose to run the battery down and then charge it back up.  That has been going on for a few hours and it is still at 40%, where it has been stuck from the start. Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Hey,

My laptop (Satellite L 670) often has a charging problem.

First the laptop works normally, the power cord is plugged in and the battery is charging correctly.
Than, however the adapter is still plugged in, all of a sudden the charging stops.

Simultaneously two of three first indicating LEDs change:
* Normal mode: adapter LED = white, on/off LED = white, battery LED = red-orange
* Problem mode: adapter LED = white, on/off LED = no light, battery LED = pink & flashing

Some additional remarks:

- Sometimes when I pull out en replug the adapter the charging starts again, but sometimes it has zero effect.
- When the laptop is in sleeping mode or shut down charging happens without any problems.
- If I take out the battery and the laptop works only on the adapter, there is no problem.
- I've got the feeling that the charging problem often takes place when the cooling fan starts or stops spinning.

Any idea what my cause the problem?
A broken battery or adapter?
An intern problem?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite L670 charging issue - Pink battery led

On this virtual way it is not easy to say for sure what the problem can be and we can just speculate what the problem is. In my opinion there is some problem with power supply electronic so it should be checked by Toshiba service provider.

I have similar problem with old Satellite P200D. I?ve tested it with two AC adapters and two batteries. The problem is always the same so it must be power supply issue.

Is the warranty for your notebook still valid?

There is a mode there where the software will stop the charging at 58 to 59% battery charge to protect your battery

Maximum Battery life will let the battery work as normal, charging it to 100%
Optimized for battery health will stop the charging when it reaches 58% to 60%, showing Plugged in not charging

Let me know your findings

Hey like many others I'm having some issues with my FLEX 3-1580. Issue: The battery originally would not charge above 15%, now it will not charge above 14%. The battery light near the power button is on, and the charger works (tested with DMM). Sometimes I get a constant on and off between the computer detecting the power cord. This makes the screen flash back and forth in brightness going from plugged in to unplugged (This is remedied by disabling Microsoft AC Adapter in Device Manager, meaning it then stays "plugged in", still doesn't charge). If the battery is not plugged into the laptop it will start on AC Adapter after many attempts of 2 second boot/stop/boot/stop. Attempts: I have checked the voltages from the power cable internally to where it plugs into the board. The top two connectors get the 21V. The CMOS battery is at 3V. I reapplied thermal paste. I reset all connections. Looked for component burn marks but couldn't see any. I know other laptops have had issues with the MOSFETS but I could not find any MOSFET on the motherboard. Ran registry fixer with CCleaner. Updated all the drivers. Flashed newest BIOS In the end I don't know if its a software problem and something seriously got messed up by a virus in my registry or somthing.. Or if there is something on the motherboard that is bad.

So the laptop will not turn on at all? Does it act the same if you remove the battery? If not the the adapter may be faulty, the DC jack in the laptop may have broken, or there's a motherboard failure in the laptop.

Testing with a known good and compatible power adapter would be the next step.

How old is the laptop, is it still under warranty?

My one hour old Y510p seems to have an issue: the battery does not appear to be charging (according to the battery icon). I downloaded the Lenovo current Win 8 driver from the website, but it would not install due to a more current version of the driver being found. Is there something I'm missing? My System: Windows XP Pro SP2 -Thinkpad R61E I uninstalled my thinkpad power manager (it was the original which came with the system - perhaps 1.17 or earlier). I noticed when reinstalling the new 1.53 version, this wreaked havoc with some of my video related progams - screen became washed out and highly colored for certain programs.) The battery charges fine with 1.53 installed. When I uninstall the 1.53 and reboot, the battery will not charge with the windows power manager alone.  But the other programs video returns to normal. This outcome was reproduced several times (it is not a problem battery. I am aware of the recall so did your diagnostic tool.) Hence an easy solution would be to get an archived version of the original compatible power manager. question: WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD AN OLDER VERSION OF THE POWER MANAGER SOFTWARE?? Thank you!

lenovo_r61e, welcome to the forum,

if your system has a factory installation you can find all the drivers and utilities which were originally installed at the factory in the C:\SWTOOLS folder. The folder you need to look for, which contains the older version, will probably be named PWRMGR or similar.

The only reason I upgraded at all was because I had a hard drive go bad and didn't realize that it was only the hard drive at the time. I restored the computer with a different version of Windows 7 after I replaced the drive and everything is working great - except the battery charging. It is sporadic. WHAT DID WORK was shutting down the computer, removing the battery, and pressing the power button for 30 seconds and reinstalling the battery. After I do that, it does detect the charging cord is connected and the battery charges properly - but only for a week or two, and then I usually have to do it all over again. Any thoughts? Is my battery going? Charging cord? Any other thoughts? It's not a HUGE deal that this is happening. I love this computer. If I can correct the problem, I will. Thanks!
