Laptop keeps making device connect and Device disconnect sound.

Question: Laptop keeps making device connect and Device disconnect sound.

My windows 8 laptop(IdeaPad U310) keeps making this device connect and disconnect noises.I have hooked my laptop to a external display. These noises start when the display turns off after being idle for sometime. My Event log is filled with even IDs 9020 and 9009 alternating every minute. I couldn't find any information online.

Preferred Solution: Laptop keeps making device connect and Device disconnect sound.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Laptop keeps making device connect and Device disconnect sound.

hi koushikt,

Welcome to the Forums.

The Desktop Window Manager is a part of Windows 8 that manages the aero effects (i.e. Aero Peek, Window Coloration, etc.). From the screenshots that you posted, it looks like a problem with DWM itself as discussed in this microsoft article.

Can you try to:
1. Run Windows Updates to get the latest patch and bug fixes for your OS.
2. Update your display driver (if you have Intel HD 4000 Graphics, get it here)
3. Disable visual effects and reboot.

Let me know your findings,

Like I said, I don't really know where to go from here, as I've never run into something like this before. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Windows 8 keeps making the device connect and disconnect noises.

Did you install Audio drivers from Creative Labs? If so, you may want to uninstall and reinstall them and see if that helps.

The MBWrp64.dll is a file related to Creative Labs.

Hi,

At every start-up there is ether a Device Disconnect sound or a Device Connect sound that gets interrupted by a Device Disconnect sound.

This happens on every start-up, after almost everything is loaded.

P.S.
There are no Yellow !-s in the device manager.

Answer:Device Connect/Disconnect Sound at Startup

Hello Desmond, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You could troubleshoot by disconnecting one or a few devices at a time, then restart to see if you still get the sound until you find the culprit.

When you find the culprit, you could test connecting it to a different USB port to see if it still does it to see if you may have a bad USB port. You might also see if there may be newer drivers (if applicable) available for the device as well.

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

So I just installed Windows 10 and been trying to get the right drivers on my gear. Everything was fine until after I installed a ASIO audio driver for a mixer.

Now I don't have any Event Sounds when I plug or unplug devices.

Tried uninstalling the ASIO drivers and didn't change, just for some reason now my computer won't give notification sounds. No Errors in any drivers in device manager.

Any ideas?

I am on a Vista home premium system and have a resource monitor running as a gadget. I keep getting a cpu usage of around 30% off and on and hear the system sound of connection of a usb device every few seconds. I can't seem to nail down the culprit. I am monitoring processes in device mgr. and see windows media player.exe show up on list and then disappears about the same time frame. The program is not running. Anybody got a clue???

Every now and then, something on my PC will try to do something. I get the Windows "Device Disconnect" sound followed straight away by the Windows "Device Connect" sound. (the sound when you plug/unplug a USB device).
My PC freezes for a second while this happens then carries on as normal until it does it again. It can be very intermitent or happen up to 5 times in a row.
It can do it any time, but is most annoting while playing a game and it doesn't do it in Safe Mode.
I have done the stuff you say to do for Malware plus anything else I could think of.
I'm not really sure it's bad stuff on my PC or if some application is just having a hissy fit.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

Good day,
My system has developed a new system, which seems right out of the blue. My system will randomly freeze for a second or two, then it will play the device connect sound and then the device disconnect sound. It is totally random, and nothing should be connecting or disconnecting. I have not done anything new to my system in the way of installing new hardware. I have a firewall on my Linksys router. I just dunno what in the world it could be. I just know it is really terribly annoying. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I connect a device, oh let's say an ext hdd or flash to my pc, do my thing (normally xfr files) and when done do the required safe-disconnect procedure. A short while later I may need it again, but I always have to physically disconnect the cable/device and re-connect to get my pc to 'see' the device again. Is there away to do this w/o physically disconnecting the external device?

(I went from Windows ME straight to 7 and seem to recall that there was a 'detect hardware' button that would re-establish the device's presence on the pc w/o the hassle of removing and replacing/unplugging/plugging the cable/device)

Answer:Connect/Disconnect Device

The possible method is to safely remove the drive and then force Windows to re-scan for hardware changes;

Start|type Device Manager in search box|Enter|Right click on root computer entry|Scan for hardware changes

Would this program be suitable for your purposes?

Time to get your virus definitions up to date and run a virus scan. Then run a spyware check. I use Spybot from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html Adaware is another good one.

I have a linksys wrk54g wireless router connected to my cable modem. Off the router runs my desktop, roomates wireless laptop, my wired xbox360 and my roomates wireless ps3.

My problem is that when i play online games on my desktop, i momentarily get disconnected from the internet....for a couple seconds and drop the game I'm in whenever either the xbox or ps3 are turned on. I also get disconnected from other online programs such as aim/xfire but thats not as bad cuz i just log back in right away. It is pretty annoying and i believe it is a problem with my router somehow?

I am semi competent at computers and setup the network myself. Please if any1 has ideas or has heard of this problem before id appreciate it.

Answer:Network disconnect when I connect w/ a new device. Plz Help

sounds like you have a duplicate IP address on one the the boxes

get a connection and make sure you can browse the Internet using google
and search for anything you like (we'll use this as a test)

Connect a device and make the browser search again (even on the same words).
If you get disconnected, then the last device connected has the conflict.

Go to that device and REMOVE any static IP address and make sure you have
Automatic DHCP for the IP and DNS addresses on that device.

Running Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1.

Problem:

I am hearing the Device Connect, Device Disconnect, and Failed to Connect sounds at random times, sometimes 2 minutes to 10 hours apart. No error window pops up when this event occurs, nor do any event logs record anything out of the usual when these events occur. It does not appear to be connected to any specific program or application that I run.

I have scanned my computer with multiple virus scans and malware scans. I have observed firewall connectivity and it appears that whatever is causing it is not trying to connect to the internet. I have full confidence that it is not an infection. I have also reinstalled the OS and applied the updates, but the problem is still there. I have done a driver check on all the hardware and all drivers seem to be in order.

To me, this is truly a phantom problem that has driven me to wits end. I apologize if the information seems lacking, but to be honest it's pretty much all I konw about this problem. I would be greatful for any comments or suggestions.

Answer:Device Connect/Disconnect/Failed to Connect sounds

What do you have connected to your USB ports?
What are the settings in your Control Panel to control the activity of the USB ports (in particular, any settings that sleep/disable that device when it's not being used).

The easiest thing to do is to disconnect all your USB devices and only connect them when using them. Also, follow the Safely Eject Hardware protocol when removing them from the computer.

Hi
I've noticed over the last week my computer and my laptop are both having the device connect/disconnect sounds playing frequently and randomly. About once every 2-10 minutes, I'd say. I just got a brand new Lenovo T420 and after updating Windows 7 (64-bit) and installing other recommended updates, it plays the Device Disconnect sound after startup. It seems to happen once everything is loaded, maybe about a minute from the time you see the desktop.

I can't be 100% certain that it only started after the update. Also, I should point out that I have a fingerprint reader and a USB mouse. I tried disconnecting the USB mouse and disabling "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for the fingerprint reader, but still no luck. I tried using Event Viewer, but I have no ideal what I'm actually looking for.

I've had this problem for several months now and have been unable to find a solution elsewhere. Maybe someone here can help. Here's the story:I was using a self-built machine. Suddenly, about 3 months ago, random USB device disconnect-like sounds started occurring (sometimes 3x in a row, other times not for several hours) - I disabled all system sounds and it still continued, even though I didn't notice any USB hardware blips). Windows 7 has been making the device disconnect sound and then the re-connect sound shortly after at a random interval. This has only happened today and I've tied it to Event ID 7036 in Event Viewer. I opened event viewer and refreshed when I heard the sound and checked for differences. There is an Event ID 7036 at the same time as the sound in every case. Each has the description "The Multimedia Class Scheduler Service entered the running/stopped state." What could cause this and why?

Recent hardware changes: plugged in multi-card reader, external hard drive has been plugged in for weeks. I've unplugged the card reader in the meantime to see if that was it. There have been no "device disconnected" bubbles or notifications connected with the noise.

I recently got an external hard drive and a usb 3.0 adapter card. I also had to get a molex to sata power adapter cable for the card. Everything was fine for a few days, but now everytime I wake the computer from sleeping, it plays the sound indicating a device has been disconnected. Unplugging the drive doesn't stop the sound and jiggling the (somewhat loose) adapter cable while everything is plugged in and running doesn't seem to change anything either, but unplugging the adapter card from the power supply does stop the sound from playing. The sound isn't that annoying and there doesn't seem to be any issue with performance, but what I'm wondering is could this become a problem for the drive in the future?

Got kinda a off the wall one here: With my recent purchase of my new Windows 7 computer I added a fluorescent light above my workstation. Its around 21" long and mounted about 3 feet above my monitor and PC. Sometimes when I first turn on the light I hear the "bong-bong" sound of the device disconnect sound from the PC. This does not happen every time but I would say about 60% of the time it happens. I do not see any indication than something actually "unmounted" but this does have me stumped. I know a fluorescent light does put out a frequency but I have not heard of anything like this. I have stopped using the light for not until I can figure out if it is actually interfering with anything. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I think you've answered your question. The problem-causing thing is the fluorescent light. For some reason, flurorescent light causes touchscreens to lag and touch-pens miscalibrate too.

Why is the fluorescent light causing this problem? That I have no idea. But it may be related to what you mentioned about fluorescent lights giving out a frequency.

Maybe you guys can help me figure this one out... because I am stumped.

I was using a self-built machine. Suddenly random USB disconnect sounds (the old windows DUH-DUH downward disconnect sound) started occurring (sometimes 3x in a row, other times not for several hours) - I disabled all system sounds and it still continued, even though I didn't notice any USB hardware blips).

Two weeks ago, I bought the new Intel NUC7i7BNH, installed Windows 10, and within a few hours the issue suddenly started all over again. Here's what I have done:

(1) updated all drivers with Intel Driver Update Utility
(2) swapped out a wired keyboard
(3) bought a new isb mouse
(4) used bluetooth mouse and keyboard
(5) replaced a wired USB hub with a newer model ( thought this was the solution - no sounds for 2 days, then suddenly 4 times today - sontinues continue with or without it running).
(6) disabled all energy saving options in Win 10 power settings
(7) disabled all windows system sounds (in the 1st machine, I even deleted the offending WAV files - still heard them)
(8) disabled onboard audio
(9) updated all drivers and BIOS
(10) reset Windows 10
(11) have no network printers
(12) shut down a Synology NAS (sounds continued)
(13) running a Sonos controller and speakers (latest updates)

I received no error messages in event viewer and nothing shows up in USBDeview. So it doesn't seem to be a USB issue. It MUST be some external hardware, but I have no idea what it could be.

So my desktop keeps making that annoying ding sound that it makes when you connect a new device, but whats strange is that im not connecting anything. Also, if that wasnt all bad enough, every time it makes the noise it causes my mouse to hiccup which is making gaming very difficult. I have run both anti viruses as well as a spyware and maleware killer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also dont know if its related, but when i try to play my game and run by holding both mouse buttons i notice that my charactor stops constantly. Tried updating the driver and removing the mouse to no avail. Could this maybe be a bad connection and the cause of the noise? Thanks in advance!

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Move the USB mouse connector to a different USB port, see if this fixes the issue.

Otherwise, sounds like the USB connector of the mouse is bad.

I have an old hard drive for my pc that I would like to use as a backup device. Since it is not in my machine (and I don't want to put it back in), I am looking for a device that allows me to connect it via usb to use to backup my work.

I am sure I have seen these a while ago and they cost around 10-15, though I can't remember what they are called or what they look like, so I'm not sure what to be looking for.

Can anyone help?

I have a Samsung series 7 laptop with 2 usb3 ports and 2 usb 2.0 ports. On the device manager i can see the installed driver Intel usb 3.0 root hub and intel usb 3.0 extensive host controller.

I also have purchased a Samsung 64GB sdxc card SDXC UHS (I), that according to manufacturer it can reach speeds "Transfer Speed: Up to 80 MB/s Read and up to 40 MB/s Write". I have enclosed this in a USPEED USB3 card reader, so that I use this as a 64Gb usb3 flash drive.

My problem is that everytime I connet this flash drive to my laptop's usb 3 ports, I get the message "This device can perform faster if you connect it to a superspeed usb 3 port" (!!) so I dont get it! What is wrong??

Actual writing speeds, when i copy large files (eg movie) this is done at 28 - 30 MB/s while speeds when copying many small files (folder with many smaller images) is done at 10 - 11.5 Mb/s.

I also have a usb 3.0 Seagate hard drive but I dont see this message everytime I connect it. Also, the exact same test (with the exact same files beeing transferred) are: Large files (eg movie) at 90 - 95 MB/s while smaller files (folder with many smaller images) is done at 34 - 37.5 Mb/s

I know that the Samsung SD card can't achieve the same speeds, but I am mostly curious why this message comes up "This device can perform faster if you connect it to a superspeed usb 3 port" . Is my flash drive operating at usb 3.0?

Thank you for your h... Read more

Answer:Your device can perform faster when you connect it to a usb3 device

Hi Dionisis , I have a couple of USB 3.0 flash sticks that give me the same message even though I have them in a USB 3.0 port.
In your case it may be due to the fact that an SDXC card isn't really a USB device, I'm not sure on this. someone else may have a better explanation.

You can run comparisons using the same files and copying in the 2.0 and the 3.0 ports to see any difference.

My Windows XP on my Sony Vaio -vgn-t370p laptop does not have sound anymore. When I look in the device manager it shows that all devices are working properly but ( there are not yellow question marks), I still do not have sound. Please help?

Answer:Device Manager shows sound device is working but still no sound

Hi

What Service Pack is your XP at?

Did your sound just disapear or did you have a malware infection?

Have you checked that the volume is not muted?
Also check in Services (Control Panel > Administrative tools > Services) that the Windows Audio service is set to Started and Automatic.

What I would try is the below and if you are at SP2 only then install the UAA driver from HERE and reboot, possibly even re-install your audio driver once the UAA driver is installed.

Or if you are at SP3, then try the below originally posted from muskesnipe

Goto Start>Run and type in regedit , then click OK.
Click the plus signs in front of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, Current Control Set, Control, and finally, click Windows.
In the right panel you will see CSDVersion.
Right click it, choose Modify.
In the highlighted input window, you should see 300. Change it to 200.
Click OK, close regedit and restart your PC. Windows will now think it is SP2 and allow you to install the HD_Audio/kb888111xpsp2.exe and your Sound Driver.

Make sure to reboot and then test your sound BEFORE, changing the value back to 300.

Then follow the same steps to change it back to SP3. Change the 200 back to 300.Click to expand...

Hello everyone,

I just installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP a few weeks ago and have been without sound ever since. The Sounds and Audio Devices Properties says "No Audio Device".

Although I learned about the workaround involving copying machine.inf to another location, removing the "ExcludeFromSelect=*" line, and loading the driver using this modified file, it doesn't work in my case. Every time I try it, the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator reverts to being disabled.

When the Add Hardware Wizard is through, I get the message:

----- "The software for this device is now installed, but may not work correctly."

----- "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"

I also get a Code 31 error in the properties for the enumerator. Can anyone help, please? Thanks.

AMD Athlon 2400+
1.5 Gb RAM
80 Gb hard drive
WinXP SP2

Answer:Not the Same Old Sound Problem - No Audio Device / Plug and Play Software Device Enum

Re: Not the Same Old Sound Problem - No Audio Device / Plug and Play Software Device

At last!

Below is a link to the solution that finally worked for me when I was dealing with the "No Audio Device" issue (I had a Code 31 error "Windows cannot load the drivers" even after re-installing the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator).

The first time I tried it I was unsuccessful and I don't know where the hangup was. The second time everything worked perfectly! So, just a few things I'd recommend keeping in mind:

- Do back up the files that it says to delete, and create a restore point before beginning the registry editing steps.
- Search all components of the registry--keys, values, data--and remember to highlight "My Computer" so that the entire registry is searched. Repeatedly choose "Find Next" until no more hits come up.
- When I began the sequence of reinstalling the Enumerator, the Add Hardware Wizard automatically detected and re-installed my sound driver. I uninstalled the sound driver again (after the Enumerator was installed and before restarting), just in case.
- I don't think there is literally a string "PnP software enumerator" anywhere in the registry. Try "enumerator", although I do not think this part is necessary.

Good luck!

For some time now and without any known explnation, I get a Device Failed To Connect warning sound when windows starts. In fact, I get five such warnings.
I have checked in System/Device Manager, and expanded all entrys in hopes of finding any yellow triangles with an exclamation mark to help me track down the culprits...nothing seen.

I have a Gateway system with Windows7 Home 64 bit OS. Although there seems to be nothing wrong with the way my PC works, I am perplexed as to why I am getting these waring sounds. I have o idea where or how to dig any deeper for the reason.

I am on son's Clevo laptop and they tell me they have not had sound for a very long time.

I check, download and install latest drivers from the Clevo website, but still no sound.

I have deleted all device drivers and allowed Windows to rediscover the drivers again - everything went well but found a PCI device that could not find drivers for so put the yellow Exclamation Mark - but still no Audio Device.

I checked the BIOS, there is no option to turn on/off the sound so I presume audio is turned on as everything is integrated, but still the Sounds and Audio Device Properties says that there are No Audio Devices. So either the device is faulty or there is some other way of being able to get the computer to recognise the Audio Devices.

If there is any suggestion(s) it would be greatly appreciated.

David

Answer:Onboard sound but 'No Audio Device' in device properties

Sometimes kids overdrive the audio chips until they overheat and burn out. If burned out, it will not detect.
Might be time to disable the onboard sound and install an external sound card and software.

Is it possible to connect a desktop IDE device like a hard drive or an optical drive to a laptop? Are there any adapters that allow me to connect can IDE cable to a USB or Firewire port on my laptop and use the IDE drive like an external device?

Answer:Connect desktop IDE device to laptop

Yes their is. For instance on hard drives they make external bays for internal hard drives. So you can make an internal hard drive external. I am pretty sure they around 50 bucks and make it either usb or firewire.

Malware problems take priority on BC. This means if you have a malware problem, or even suspect one, that gets dealt with first. On that basis I am going to close this topic.

You will be most welcome to come back to the Win 8.1 section to start another topic if you are still having 'MyDrive' problems after the malware is cleaned up.

Hello all,

My laptop is the only device that is unable to connect to the wireless internet in my new house. There are at least two other computers and three other phones (including mine) that have no problems connecting to the network. My laptop is a Dell XPS M1530 running on Windows Vista. The wireless router is a Cisco Linksys Model No: WRT310N.

I have never had a problem connecting to any wireless networks in the past, but when I try to connect to this new network it fails every time. After the first two minutes it says "Connecting to network taking longer than usual" and then it says "Connection failed" because the network timed out.

I have Norton Antivirus, and have disabled the both the Norton and Windows firewalls. And I tried to find a driver to download, but I couldn't find any that were compatible with my computer and the router.

I have run out of options and am close to just buying a new router. I would appreciate any help you all are able to provide.

Thank you in advanced!!

Answer:Laptop is the only device that cannot connect to wireless network

are you paying a subscription to norton ?

can you connect to the router by cable- and does it workok

whats the model of the wireless adapter - should be in device manager - see below

we have seen issues with a particular adapter and vista like this - AR5007(EG) and a driver update often resolves it

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remove the wireless security
Is your wireless security enabled?
if so - log into the router and remove the wireless security - now see if it will connect.
if it does - log back into the router and try with the wireless security enabled again

Alright, so here's the scoop. I recently formatted my computer into xp and updated it to sp3, but in the programs (aida64 among them) I was using to search for drivers it said that my sound device was outdated (Soundmax High Definition audio integrated device I think) and so I installed Soundmax's latest driver/ program. Yet that made the sound scratchy or added a fuzz to the sound that wasn't there before. I tried going back to a restore point but that didn't work so I disabled the device in Device Manager. Now the device doesn't even appear in the Manager, even after re installing the chipset and the program. Does this warrant a belarc report to be solved?
Any help would be much appreciated and thank you for your time.

Unfortunately the duke of flukes wasn't lucky this time.

Hi.I need your help urgently, please.
I bought my Laptop Presario Presario 3614 AU almost 3 years ago and few weeks ago the sound in my Compaq disappears suddenly from time to time.
I managed to bring it back few times by restarting the laptop but it doesn't always work. I've also reinstalled the drivers, so it worked again, but no more now after I've turned it off.
When I tried to open volume control, it said that there is no device installed, but in device manager all seems ok. I don't understand why all these troubles. Someone adviced me to install audiopatch by naven. I've done all the steps but still no sound (may be because no device?)
I also tried to install more recent drivers but failed because cannot detect device. True in Systeme Information, no device for sound.
I used XP SP3,
AMD Turion x2

I need it for my job. Please help

Hey guys,

I'm not at her house to get the exact information, but basically, my friend has lost all sound on her laptop. Windows media gives an error about problems with the sound card being faulty or something.

She is pretty much a computer noob, and she told me it happened when 'she deleted her MSN folder because she was too addicted to it'. I don't see why deleting MSN would take the sound with it, so I'm thinking she did something else without actually knowing it.

To me, this sounds like a driver issue; like she deleted part of the onboard sound drivers. I will get more information if it is required, like error messages and stuff, but does anyone have any suggestions based off of what I can remember?

Thanks in advance,

Well I recently re-installed windows on a new hard drive on my HP Pavillion dv6748us. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (legal copy). Everything went well and installed. I installed Driver Updater to make sure I had all my drivers squared away and had that finish up. A few days after I noticed that when I opened up the laptop there was no sound, either through the laptop speakers or through the headphone jack(s). When I click on the sound icon it says "No Audio Output Device is installed". There is no sound card in my hardware manager. I've uninstalled all sound "programs" and drivers I can think of as well as modem software. There is no option in my BIOS to disable the sounds card. I have upgraded it to firmware F.34 and reset all defaults. I have taken out the CMOS battery and let it sit for a few hours before putting back together and starting it again. When I look in Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Sound - It states "No Audio devices are installed." Please help I'm at the end of my rope on this one. Thanks for any help.

Answer:No Sound Device installed on Laptop

Programs such as Driver Updater are not a good place to check your drivers. The only place to get your drivers fom is the manufacturers website. Since there are no specific Windows 7 drivers for your computer, you can download the Windows Vista Drivers and they normally work with Windows 7. The Mannufacturer Driver site is here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...3&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3648284

Okay, here is the sort version. I have 3 laptop hard drives that I wanted to access and purchased an IDE USB device to do so.

Two of the 3 were recognized under the "my computer" icon as a seperate hard drive, and I was able to interact with them just fine. The last one is a different story.

The hard drive powers up, I can hear it spinning. Windows recognizes it in the device manager as the "fugitsu" hard drive and model number. It is also recognized under the USB section of the Device Manager as a "mass storage Device"

The problem is, there is no icon under my computer to access the drive.

I checked the manufatures website for trouble shooting and fAQ's to no avail. I also tried the laptoprepairguys website, and somebody else had a similar problem with no follow up. I also tried to use command line prompt to access the drive, and wasnt able to find it.
Since it is being read in the device manager, i am assuming there has GOT to be a way to get into it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a bunch of old files on here i want to extract. Any help is greaty appreciated.

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

I'm at my wits end and in need of the internet's vast away of expertise. Please help me any way you think you can. The screenshots below is my devices and printers menus not giving me the option to remove device and it giving me the option to remove a different device.

Answer:Bluetooth device refuses to disconnect

Is the issue that you cannot pair the controller with a different device because it latches onto the laptop or is it that you are trying to clean up the look of Devices and Printers?

If the former isn't there a way to tell the controller to disconnect from a device or to tell it to pair with a different device?

If the latter I cannot think of anything to help. I find the Devices and Printers to be pretty helpful, but feel that we just have to live with some aspects that don't work the way we'd like.

plz, give me solution.my dell vostro 1510 laptops not detect sound device & not perform sound.............error :- show from my laptop "CODE 10" error and not "MIXER SOUND DEVICE".plz give me soltn..................Than u.........?

Answer:sound device not detected on my dell laptop

So Code 10 is the device is failing to start. Did this start after you applied any updates or installed any software? Or did you not make any changes that you know of and it just "happened" all of a sudden? First thing i would do is download updated drivers, i took it upon myself to go find the dell driver for you:http://support.dell.com/support/dow... Copy and paste that link, or go to the support.dell.com and pull up your vostro 1510 drivers and the Audio tab will show Realtek sound card which means if you dont get it to work via the dell sponsored drivers, you can goto the realtek website and put in your model and get their generic driver which may be more up to date anyway

Hello Guys,

I have been living for the past week without music.. There is no sound coming out from my Lenovo Thinkpad laptop's speakers. No sound when I play movies and songs... When I try to skype, it says "Problem with play back device". No sound too when I connect my earpiece to my laptop.

I use windows vista. My laptop's sound driver is SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio. Based on my "Manage audio device" options in my control panel, I have 2 sound drivers.

Speakers
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio

and

SPDIF Interface
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio
When I right click both drivers and click "Test", it says "Failed to play tone". I have tried reinstalling the SoundMax driver but it does not work. Friends, what else can I try to solve this issue?

Answer:No sound from my laptop's speakers. Problem with playback device

Any errors showing in Device Manager?
Are the sound devices specifically listed there?

I assume you downloaded the driver from Lenovo support website, not from anywhere else, as only Lenovo has the correct, compatible driver.

I'm using an Acer Aspire 5100 with Windows XP installed. Due to malware or some other problem, and because I was due, I formatted my hard drive and installed XP. This is the first time I've done so with this laptop. I downloaded and installed drivers that appeared to be missing - my display drivers for my monitor, and for the wireless card.

Problem: I can hear no sound. The only sound that has played is a PC Beep. Windows does not recognize my sound card; the drivers are not installed properly. It seems that I cannot install them.

The PDF containing the list of drivers is here: http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/acerdrivers.cfm ; scroll down to Aspire 5100.

My sound is not working. Volume Control tells me there is no mixer, and everything dealing with my sound settings is faded out (there are no devices to select), and no options.

Here's my device mananger: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c395/-FLCL-/DeviceManager-1.jpg

I have only updated drivers for the BroadCom Adapter and my Monitor/Display.

The driver I should have installed for sound, according to the PDF, is the Realtek Audio Driver v5.10.0.5257. I downloaded this, but cannot install it. Under my device manager, I have 'Audio Codecs' and 'Legacy Audio Drivers', but those don't seem to work. I cannot uninstall them, and windows will not let me override the drivers with my own.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:No Sound device/mixer recognized on formatted laptop.

I have an hp pavilion dv6700 notebook and I can not get the wired lan to identify any networks. In addition, I am getting the little speaker icon with a red x that says no audio output device is installed. So you would think that you should just reinstall the drivers but there is nothing listed in the device manager and there is not even a tab for gaming and sound controllers. I have tried to install the drivers but get the error that the media device for these drivers is not present. The network adapter appears in the device manager and I have reinstalled the drivers many times and in different ways but to no avail. What kind of problem could this be and what else can I do? Did I mention that I have recovered to the factory state and still get these errors? I would think that this has something to do with windows update...

Answer:No sound device in device manager, no lan

Hve you made any changes in the BIOS that could account for the missing devices?
Different BIOS versions have differing ways to enable and disable hardware.

Hello!
I have a blutooth speaker that I use with my laptop. When paired, the OS (Win 8.1) identifies it as headphones and uses the headphones icon. I don't like that; I want to give it my custopm name and use my custom made icon for this device.

When I change name and icon, all works as supposed as long as the device is not unpaired. But since I sometimes need to pair the device with my telephone, I have to re-pair it when using it afterwards with the computer. And then all my customizations are gone.

How can I get the OS to remember my device and apply the nice icon and name I have prepared for it?

Thanks!

Hello! I have a PC I assembled last June. After I loaded it up with my applications and connected my devices I began getting device disconnect sounds as well as a few device connect sounds. I've been troubleshooting by disconnecting all devices then adding devices back one at a time to try to find the culprit. I'm not getting consistent or convincing results so far, but will keep working on that approach.

A Web search on the subject returns lots of results where users are experiencing these sounds. Answers are sparse. And antagonizing! I have not found any hints as to how to extract from the system what is actually happening. What I am looking for is if anybody knows where in the system I can find a log that records device connect/disconnect events associated with these sounds. Anybody have a clue?

Answer:How to find Device Disconnect event in Win7 logs?

Dave

The best place to start is in event viewer. You want to do whatever you need to cause the problem and look in event viewer around that time.

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Event viewer (local) and look for the critical errors listed in the last day, week, etc. Then go to the windows log>application tab. Finally the windows Logs>system tabs.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ). If nothing critical is related to the problem keep looking it is there.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Hi to all.

On my Dell OptiPlex 755 E6550 2.33, I've had intermittent issues with the headphone socket suddenly stopping working for quite some time, sometimes problem is auto detected and fixed, sometimes I download a driver or three to resolve. This time nothing is helping no matter what drivers I've tried. Have Win 7 Ultimate installed with just on-board sound. No sound or audio shows up in device manager? Are 755's fickle with on-board sound or just too many sound drivers installed? Any ideas please.

Answer:Dell OptiPlex 755 No Audio Output device and no Sound/Audio in Device Manager

There could be multiple hidden audio devices.
* Press windows key + R* Enter cmd, click OK* Type cd\ [press Enter]* Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 [press Enter]* Type devmgmt.msc [press Enter]* Once the Device Manager opens, open Sound and see if you have multiple grey out items. If yes, delete them, then restart the computer and retest

Hi, I am new to this forum and desperately in need of help with sound. One day I opened my laptop and the sound was gone. The error on the icon is "No Audio Output Device is Installed". I am using SONY VAIO VPCSA35GH (Available in Asia Pacific region).

FYI: I have two display adapters. AMD Radeon HD 6630M and Intel HD Graphics Family.

On the device manager panel: I've got only one hardware in "Sound, video and game controller" section, which is "Intel(R) Display Audio".

MY OS: Windows 7 Professional x64

Here is my attempt to solve the problem, but to no avail:

-System Restore: I tried to use system restore to the point it worked fine. It does not work at all and now my restore point has gone too.
-Install driver from Intel Download center : Refer to my graphic card, I tried to download new graphics driver for my motherboard. It doesn't work. I have downloaded from this website: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...ng&ProdId=3319
-Install driver from SONY VAIO support center : I tried to re-install Audio Driver and also Graphics Driver from this website. Support for VPCSA35GH : S Series (VPCS) : VAIO&reg Notebook & Computer : Sony Asia Pacific and it also doesn't work.
-Look it up on BIOS : My BIOS does not have any option regarding to audio issue.

My two attempts to re-install the drivers were done in safe-mode. Could you please help me with this problem? I really have need to use audio with my project.

Answer:Problem with sound: No Audio Output Device is Installed. LAPTOP: VAIO

The Intel Display Audio is ONLY for HDMI Audio and not the regular PC audio. The first thing to check is the BIOS to verify the on-board audio is enabled. Normally, if the on-board is enabled in the BIOS but no hardware specific driver is installed Windows will install the generic "High Definition Audio Codec" driver. As this is not happening, it suggests either it is disabled in the BIOS or remotely it has a hardware problem.

If it is enabled in the BIOS, first thing to do is reinstall the motherboard chipset drivers from Sony. If the chipset drivers are corrupt all the devices could be mis-identified. Restart the PC after installing the chipset drivers and see if Windows detects and installs the High Definition Audio Drivers. If it still does not install, either the Windows 7 Operating System is corrupt and you will have to do a complete new install, or there is a hardware problem with the sound chip.,

Since installing Windows 10 I've been bothered by "Device Disconnected" sounds about every 10 seconds or so.

I just turned off the sound until I could investigate further.

I found that the AES2501B fingerprint reader device is the culprit as disabling it stopped the Device Disconnect sounds, but this prevents me from using the fingerprint reader to log in to Windows.

Further digging lead me to discover that this was power management related, but Windows 10 no longer seemed to offer the ability to turn off power management on a device basis.

Update: I found that adding a DWORD entry in the registry appears to resolve this. I got the "Driver key" for the device by checking the device properties in Device manager, going to the Details tab, and selecting "Driver key". This had the value:

{53d29ef7-377c-4d14-864b-eb3a85769359}\000

I then went into regedit, and opened the location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{53d29ef7-377c-4d14-864b-eb3a85769359}\0000

I then added a new DWORD, giving it the name PnPCapabilities with a value of 0.

This appears to have stopped the Device disconnects, and strangely, it also has brought back the Power Management tab (but just for this device).

However, I'm not 100% convinced that the value of zero is the best/correct solution, please could someone who knows this stuff better than I please contribute.

Cheers
Dave

Hi. This my first time posting here, but I've visited these forums on several occasions in the past to solve various problems, so hopefully someone will be able to help with mine.

My parents and I moved into a new house on the 25th of April, and I got my desktop computer hooked up a few days later. When I started it up, it (re)installed a few drivers (the connected devices were my mouse, keyboard and HDTV that I also use as a monitor), and I was prompted to restart the computer to finish installing them. Because our internet connection wasn't set up until the 10th of May, I only used my desktop a few minutes a week to transfer pictures I'd saved on my laptop while visiting relatives. Ever since I hooked my desktop up in the new house, I've noticed that the "device failed to connect" sound randomly plays after automatically logging into Windows. I usually only need to start my computer up once a day, sometimes restarting to finish installing a program or update. The problem usually occurs once every four or five start-ups, and the sound only plays once each time.

When I started using my computer, I had some trouble double-clicking with my left mouse button for a few days or so, but it works fine now. I've tested the connection of all my devices, and they appear to be as tight as they can be. The Device Manager doesn't show any problems, except when I set it to show hidden devices, but I think that's because the mouse and keyboard I'm currently using aren't the same... Read more

Answer:"Device failed to connect" sound plays randomly

Hello ThisIsMadness91. Welcome to the forum.

There is not enough to go on there. There are some good clues though.
That "USBSTOR#DISK...." smells like a USB connected disk drive. Is there one connected? Was there one ever connected (at the old house)?

What would help is a complete description of the old and new setup - right down to the length of the cables used to connect devices to the PC. We are looking for any differences here.

You say you are using a new keyboard and mouse. It would be good to know what the old and new devices are (brand & model #). Were any of these installed with drivers? (keyboard driver or mouse driver).

Hi,
Whenever the desktop appears I get the sound "dududu" with no popup.
Please help.

Answer:"Device Failed to Connect" sound notification

You mean you get the "device failed to connect" sound everytime you open the Desktop?

Right-click the Desktop, Personalize and go to Sounds, and set the Sound Scheme to Windows Default which is at the bottom of the drop down list and click, OK. Re-start the computer and see if the sound persists.

You may also type msconfig on the Start Menu. Go to Startup and check if any malicious programs are checked in there that might be causing this sound..

I been having issues with my Ativ Tab 3 so I shipped it back to Samsung to fix it. Before I shipped it, It always played the sound that indicated that a bluetooth device was connected. After receiving it, I noticed it had fresh copy of Windows 8 pro on it with drivers, etc. So I updated it to 8.1 and reinstall everything and noticed the bluetooth devices no longer play the sounds when they connect. Any tips on fixing this? Tried refreshing, sfc /scannow, and redoing audio drivers.

Answer:No "Bluetooth device connect" sound after reformat

I don't know about a tablet, but on a regular PC, there is a System Sounds option. If there is something similar in that tablet, check that.

Ok, hopefully I'm posting in the right area; been a while since I've been in here needing help; recently my XP'd AMD dual core 4600/3 GB ram Nvidia machine started playing the system sound you would normally hear during a USB connect/disconnect, constantly, every 3-5 seconds. I checked the other threads and found faulty USB devices were causing grief; I disconnected all of mine and the sound is still there. I run (and have been running & updating) CCcleaner, Spybot, AVG, everything seems clean. If open the task manager & watch CPU usage, it bounces up & down every time I hear the sound and explorer.exe seems to be the one on the process tab that changes. If I kill explorer, the sound stops (and of course my desktop icons disappear) Once I restart explorer the sound will resume. Is there a program I can download or a log I can find in my computer to find out what exactly is happening? (I'm assuming a program is trying to start or restart?) I could just disable the sounds to eliminate the problem as the computer doesn't freeze or hang when it happens, but would rather fix it properly in case this is the beginning of something not-so-good. Thanks for any advice.

Been running my PC pretty hard this past week running photoshop - large and multiple files. Not sure if that has anything to do with the current situation, though.

Dell XPS710
Running Win XP SP3 (32-bit)
4GB RAM

Was working in photoshop again tonight and all of a sudden, I get the windows sound that you get when you connect new hardware and then disconnect hardware. I'll be moving my mouse and it will just stall and then the sounds come. In the span of 30-45 min while working, it has happened about 2 dozen times and I just had to stop as it was happening too frequently.

I only have a few things connected (via USB) to the PC - Mouse/keyboard/printer/external HDD/Bluetooth dongle adapter. I've unplugged all except for the mouse and the keyboard trying to diagnose it and it still happens.
Internally, I've got 3 hard drives installed - Primary HDD and 2 data HDDs (All SATA)

Any ideas on how I can find out what is causing this? Not sure how to diagnose the problem.

BTW, I recently just reinstalled the entire OS from scratch 3 weeks ago. I've been running the same configuration since I got the machine a couple years ago and this is the first time I'm getting the rapid connect/disconnect sounds.

Hi,

My PC is connected to a wired network in the office. I have a 802.11g USB device. I want to hook the device to my PC's USB and make it an access point for the wifi enabled devices i.e. cellphones and laptops in the department so they can use the internet. The PC has Windows 7 installed.

How do I go about setting this all up.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Making 802.11g USB device an AP

Have you checked with the IT department to make sure they approve? What security do they require on any wireless network you create?

Are you connected directly to the internet (public IP) or are you connected to a router?

We used to have "stereo mix" option that enabled streaming audio recording without having to have the audio playing through the speakers. How do I do that now? What replaces that capability? Who makes my sound card? Why is that not readily available somewhere in Dell land? I can't believe forum searching found pretty much nothing on this.

Answer:Latitude E6530 Windows 10 no "stereo mix" option for sound input device, only "high definition audio device" with Microsoft driver and unknown manufacturer.

aj_chicagoWho makes my sound card?
Hello. The audio chip manufacturer was IDT.
aj_chicagoWhat replaces that capability?
IDT doesn't have "stereo mix", so I'm not sure how you used to have it on the E6530. IDT has an equivalent capability that it calls Rec.Playback. That can be found in the list of recording devices, after the IDT driver is installed.
aj_chicagoHow do I do that now?
Dell doesn't support audio on an E6530 that has had Win10 installed. The IDT company went out of the consumer audio business long before there was a Win10 OS, so there is no Win10 IDT driver for that model. Your computer is currently using the Windows native audio driver, which, as you say, does not support a stereo mix kind of feature.
You should be able to install the IDT driver for Win7 by installing with compatibility mode.
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.  [There are two "formats" on the driver's page. Scroll down to the 2nd one, named "Hard Drive" format, and download that one, not the 1st one named "Windows Update Package".]2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the dri... Read more

Hey all,

Thinking about buying a new keyboard, but the one i'm intersted in is not wireless, and that's something i could real do with atm.

I was wondering if it is possible that a device could be bought which allows for a wireless USB connection? If you understand my meaning.

Thanks

Answer:Making a USB device wireless

Hello,

I'm assuming the keyboard you want has a USB connection...right?

I thought such a device exists which allows USB devices to become wireless...but I can't seem to find an example. They probably don't exist...

...well, probably not until Wireless Universal Serial Bus devices start hitting the shelves (which is supposed to be arriving Q3 2006).

If you want a wireless keyboard...simply buy a wireless keyboard.

My computer USB ports started to make one of my devices overheat! I have a Lifescan Blood Meter and the USB ports (all of them) will no longer recognize the device and when you plug it in it gets so hot that you can't even touch it.  I have spent 4 hours with LifeScasn support trying everything from updating drives, reinstalling software, booting in Safe mode... They even sent me a new meter. When the 2nd meter did the same thing, they said it must be a computer problem. They said its possible my MotherBoard or USB ports are putting out too much power...How would I check this and/or fix this??? All other devices (Brother Printer, Pioneer DVD, WD back up drives, Mouse, Keyboard, USB Hub)  work fine, but the meter is the only one that has rechagreable battey. Please any thoughts? Thanks Peace,LD

Hello,My computer's been automatically restarting  0-6 times a day for the past 4 months, and the company who covers the tech support under my warranty, who had it at their shop for a month without getting a single restart, suggested I try a different power source. I have it downstairs in my house right now, just to test that theory, and it hasn't restarted yet, but I need it upstairs anyway, in the end.My question is: is there a device I can purchase that makes sure enough power is supplied to the computer at all times? Such as some kind of power backup or something which connects to the wall outlet, then I connect just the power cable for the computer into the device, and the device delivers constant power to the computer, through some kind of combination of outlet power and charged-up backup power? (if that makes sense)Thanks,Andrew

Answer:A device for making sure enough power is supplied?

andrewset....  To answer your question....... yes there is such a item ....it's called a UPS or Uninteruptable Power Supply. A good one is very expensive......I have a question for you ........ Have you ever metered the actual voltage being delivered to the recepticle your pc is plugged into upstairs........ The circuit you are on may have something on it which when it starts up draws a lot of current ..... resulting in a temporary voltage drop.... ( which causes your machine to see the low voltage and drop off ) ...... Check to see what else is on that circuit.dl65
