Preferred Solution: disable touchpad while typing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I thought I saw this option somewhere, but i cant find it anywhere, Ever since I got an external mouse (Microsoft Blue tooth mouse) I cant find any Touch pad settings, when i go to control panel, then mouse, I click open, it says: "Control Panel Extension is Incompatible with Driver Version". then it opens up my Microsoft's mouse settings, and I cant find my touch pad settings.

I still use the touch pad settings when I'm on trips and don't bring my mouse.

I cant find the touch pad under device manager either.

This is very annoying because when I'm typing, I accidentally touch the touch pad, and it moves the cursor, and starts typing in a different location.

Look in the BIOS, which is accessible with a keystoke (DEL, F2 or whatever applies to your laptop) at boot-up time. You should be able to enable/disable it there.

Answer:Y410p: How to disable touchpad during typing?

hi uboats,

Can you try uninstalling the driver Installed right now for your touchpad,
    Uninstall it through Control Panel
    Then Install any of these drivers according to your Windows Version.

Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan)
Windows 7
Windows 8

After Installation go to you Mouse/touchpad properties to Adjust Palm Check,
You can follow this Article on how to get to the settings

PalmCheck The PalmCheck? feature guards against unintentional cursor movement and tapping caused by accidental contact of the palm or hand with the TouchPad. PalmCheck allows the TouchPad to recognize when a user?s palm is resting on it or brushing its surface while typing. This helps prevent unwanted pointer movement or clicks.

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 with Windows Vista.  I want to disable the touchpad when using a USB mouse. The touchpad does not show up in the control panel under 'mouse'.  There is no button anywhere near the touchpad.  There is no function key with a mouse or touchpad symbol visible on it.  There are 4 buttons on the top right, 3 control volume, and the 4th one looks like an orange suitcase with a wrench, but it doesn't appear to do anything.  I've searched forums,  but can't find a solution.  Can anybody tell me how I can disable the touchpad to stop the cursor from jumping all over when I'm typing?  Thanks!!!

ideally, i would like for any mouseclicks and menu opening commands made within X microseconds of a keystroke to be discarded, with the user setting the value of X.

for the record, i'm working on a laptop (2730p) which has mousebuttons and menu buttons quite close to the typing keys, and i have on occassion overwritten entire paragraphs and somehow even issued a close program command while furiously typing. needless to say, i would like a fix for this.

In Windows 8 the option is called SmartSense. Disabling this worked for me.

Press Win+W to bring up Settings Search
Type "synaptic"
Double Click "SmartSense"
Slide the Slider all the way to "Off"
Click "Close" and then "OK"

This will Disable the Anti-Palm detection which prevents simultaneous Keyboard and Mouse use. I recommend you re-enable this feature when you're not gaming as otherwise you risk problems while typing.

I'm so frustrated I'm about to throw the laptop into the wall. I keep disabling the touchpad tapping from the mouse ultranav settings on this t430u but it doesn't get disabled. As I keep working, the mouse keeps getting tapped and destroying everything and slowing me down.  Even tried disabling the touchpad altogether but it keeps on working.  Whats wrong? What can I do to reverse this ? I'm on windows 8 pro of course

Answer:Can't disable the tapping on the touchpad or even the touchpad itself on the T430u?

What I do is install ThinkPad touchpad driver and uninstall thinkpad touchpad utility.  You may need to go to an older version of the driver, as Lenovo obviously doesn't bother with regression testing when releasing updated drivers.

Hello, I am running a new Inspiron 15R SE 7520 laptop, and I am to understand that this is a feature built into this laptop. While I understand the utility behind this, I cannot find a way to disable this feature. I tried turning "Palm Tracking" down to minimum, but this did not work.
As someone who likes to play games in their spare time on the computer, this will help me enjoy using my new laptop immensely.

Answer:I can't use my Touchpad while typing

I had this exact same problem which really affected my gaming and I took me forever to figure out a solution. After observing other answers from other websites, I decided to look in the registry.
Open your search and look for regedit within your laptop and follow this pathway.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\Elantech\OtherSetting\DisableWhenType_DelayTime_Move
Change the value to 0 so there's no delay.
Originally I thought it was "DisableWhenType_Enable" but that didn't seem to affect anything. If you want, you can also change that to 0. They really should have made this more friendly to disable rather than go into the registry. Hope this helps!

Hello,I own a lenovo thinkpad edge e420 and I am trying to enable my touchpad while typing. The problem is that there is a slight latency after I pressed a certain key, so that when I try to use the touchpad right away, I can't, I have to wait a little. It is extremely annyoing, and I don't know why Lenovo came up with this by default without introducing an option to disable/enable it. If I press alt+tab, for instance, the touchpad is blocked and I have to take my hand off of it in order to use it again. It's quite ridiculous.I've been searching in the mouse driver of course, but haven't found anything related to this (in linux, for instance, the option exists - in Ubuntu is on by default, for instance, but you come across the option right away if you enter the mouse configuration). Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

Answer:Enable Touchpad while typing

All right, have found a solution into the mouse driver after all. I've searched the forum and found out that PalmCheck did the trick and there's a sensitivity bar that can be modified according to how fast you want your touchpad to react after you struck a key. Sorry for post unnecessary, but I did search for some time, and only now did I find what I was looking for.

What you want to do is move the PalmCheck settings to minimum. You will need to go to Start, type "Mouse" in the Search bar, click on Mouse in the search results, click on the Device Settings tab in the Mouse Properties window, Click on the Settings button, click the expand for Pointing, the expand for Sensitivity, Select PalmCheck, and move the bar in the upper right window down to Minimum, then click Apply!

Hi guys.I have a L530 with the latest drivers on pretty much every hardware. Whenever I type, my touchpad stops responding for a while. I've looked around for a ton of fixes on Google, some of which suggest check my touchpad settings (especially the PalmCheck option), which didn't work, and a registry fix, which didn't work either (that or I applied it incorrectly). I also tried removing the touchpad driver entirely, but that resulted in me losing a lot of features that I actually use (mostly the edge-scroll feature though). Additionally I tried installing a different manufacturers older driver, which had a different driver GUI, but it had a lot of other issues which included ghost movements and general unresponsiveness and decided it was ultimately not worth it. It's not unreasonable to expect the mouse to still be functioning while using the keyboard. I understand the accidental touch problem, but at least make it an opt-out option like in the old Synaptics drivers. *EDIT* I'm using mouse driver 11.4.10.2

Answer:G51-35 - Getting Touchpad to Work while Typing?

Hi ohnoanotherputz,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Usually enable / disable touchpad would have the hotkey F6 (page 3 and 6)  .
You can check if you have the latest driver of your device from the support site for Windows 10

If your objective is to use it while typing, you can change PalmCheck settings to minimum. If you have Palmcheck enhanced ACM (Control panel> mouse> touchpad> touchpad settings Palmcheck enhanced ACM dragged to lowest ) then apply and ok.
See if that works for you.

I previously had problems using the touchpad while typing but got it solved by uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. Now that is not working. Every time I uninstall it, windows automatically reinstalls it and I can't use the touchpad while typing. I have no idea how to prevent this from happening. Honestly at this point I would be fine getting rid of my ELAN driver and just using a generic driver. Being able to use the keyboard and touchpad simulatenous is essential to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On my Dell Alienware m14x it seems that I can not find a way to disable the feature that enables a delay between the time you can click or move on the touchpad to when you can press a key. Meaning, if I quickly stop typing and attempt to move my touchpad, I must wait a couple of seconds before my touchpad enables itself again. Very annoying. This feature was added to stop people from accidently pressing the pad while typing.

Answer:How to enable use of the touchpad while typing

Touchpads are always enabled all of the time. If it is a Synaptics Touchpad, you can tweak the various settings.

Hi, I recently received a new Lenovo laptop, and I've noticed I can't move the cursor at all while holding down any key. This is really irritating, especially as a gamer, so could somebody please help, thanks.

(I'm running on Windows 10)
My touchpad is a Synaptics TouchPad V8.1 on PS/2 Port

I've also looked at other posts similar to this one, and I've tried to change my Palm Tracking but I can't edit it at all

as you can see the bar is greyed out, and I can't change the slider

Answer:Can't move cursor on touchpad while typing, please help

Welcome to the TenForums.

I think you will find the V8.1 is your firmware. I have older firmware but a very recent driver, V19. I have more tabs and options and I would think your device, being newer should be better. I can move touchpad with select keys depressed.

If you go into your device manager and look at driver I think, and I could be wrong, that you will see a different version number. With this in hand you can see if Lenovo has a newer driver or if Synaptics has a new driver. Watch compatibility, lots of different touchpads. Before updating driver I recommend you create a restore point and maybe even a image using Macrium Reflect. Always good to be able to reverse.

Answer:Lenovo G510 - Can't use touchpad while typing

I have the same problem with a Y50-70 and ELAN Touchpad/driver too. It has been sold to me as a gaming Laptop and now one major functionality you need for gaming doesn't work - what a mess. I spend hours in the Internet reading hundreds of articles from people with the same issue.1. Solution: Disable the Palmcheck function but unfortunately the ELAN SW doesn' provide this option.2. Solution: Change the Touchpad sensibility (some say max, some min) - neither works with the ELAN driver.3. Solution: Go into the Registry (regedit) and change parameter (DisableWhenType_Enable and DisableWhenType_DelayTime_Move in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPad\), to 0 with Regedit. Didn't work for me too. 4. Solution: Uninstall the ELAN driver qnd let Windows install a generic PS2 one during re-boot. This finally did it for me, however you are losing all the additional functionality of your Touchpad and can onlwy move the cursor plus right/left click. No zoom; no scroll, no multiple finger functionality anymore. So be it, I bought the Laptop for Gaming. I'm pretty disappointed about this but hope there will be better driver coming out soon.

Dell 2-in-1 3147:
The "DELL Pointing Devices" dialog shows a "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" checkbox. If this checkbox is clear, the touchpad works properly. When this checkbox is marked, the touchpad does not work at all.
I have tried both USB and Bluetooth mice, and neither one allows the proper action: the touchpad should be enabled without a mouse, and the touchpad should be disabled with a mouse.  That's how it works on other systems.  It just doesn't work at all on this system.
I suspect there is some interaction between the touchpad and the touchscreen that is interfering with this setting.  But I have another laptop with a touchpad and a touchscreen, and the mouse detection works there (it's not a DELL).
Yes, I have toyed with the idea of deleting the DELL touchpad control application and installing a "stock" Synaptics touchpad driver.  But I don't want the DELL  "update" app to overwrite it with the DELL touchpad control app every time it sees "the wrong driver" loaded.  And I don't want to take the chance that the touchpad driver and the touchscreen driver are somehow linked together, thus disabling one when I disable the other.
Any ideas on how to get the "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" action working would be welcome.

This has been bugging me ever since I bought this laptop. After pressing a key on the keyboard (aside from Ctrl/Alt/Shift), if I tap the touchpad in an attempt to click something, the first tap is ignored. I then have to tap again to get it to acknowledge my input. I've seen a range of "solutions", from disabling this in the settings (don't even try- I've searched the settings up and down to no avail) to editing the registry, but none of them so far have worked. I'd rather not disable the driver completely, but rather just get rid of this one annoyance.

Good morning, I've entered dozens of websites trying to figure out how to change this. If i'm pressing any button on the keyboard, the touchpad freezes. My OS is windows 10 home, the notebook is the ideapad 310 15ISK, i've tried to go into sinaptics conf of the touchpad, but there isn't the menu as there are in others notebooks, there are only a few options about rotation, zoom, scrolling, movements with multiple fingers etc. I noticed that on the configurations of the system there is an option where I select the delay of the touchpad after typing, and I've chose no delay, so after less than 2 secs it comes back to normal, but it still freezes while typing, and I'd really like to change that. How can I do that?Oh, and I believe it's worth mentioning that I'm from Brazil. I've put a print from the configs.By the way, there is this bar... "Controle da palma" that would mean "Palmcheck", but it is disabled... I belive it would solve this situation, how could I manage to turn it on??

After updating to Windows 10 I started experiencing touchpad delay for about a second after I press any keyboard key. When I downgraded my drivers it started working prefectly with no delay, but I was unable to use 3 finger gestures introduced with Windows 10 and also there were no 3 finger swipe to go backwards that I was using in Windows 8.1.I thought that maybe this is caused by palm tracking feature, but when I set it to minimum the problem was still there. Also I tried installing and uninstalling drivers and touchpad from device manager. Also changed "delay after type" in Windows setting to never. None of the above helped. I'm sure that my touchpad detects all the touches and it's not a hardware issue, cause when I open notification tray and make a tap with three fingers I see three dots appear on elan settings icon.P.S. The strangest thing is that when I start typing in search box then make a pause and start typing again it works without any delay and I can type and use my touchpad at the same time. Cortana is the only program where I could make it work so far.

I want to be able to use the thouchpad while simultaneously using the keyboard, i.e be able to play games properly. If I am hitting a key I can no longer move the mouse. I cant figure out how to change that. Already spent around an hour searching the internet for a solution but none seem to have it for windows 8.1. Bummer. Anyone have any ideas? I've already gone to pc settings and turned the touchpad to the no delay setting and I've gone into the mouse settings under the control panel and turned palm tracking to minimum. All were suggestions I've found online but none have solved the issue. I just want to play Portal 2.... By the way the driver software for my touchpad is apparently called Elan, if that helps any. Thanks.

I just got a new laptop (Lenovo G770) and am busy configuring Windows on it. I am running into an annoying issue with my input devices. Whenever I type or do anything with my keyboard, it disables my touchpad for about half a second. Since I am an avid user of keyboard shortcuts, this is highly annoying and is messing with my productivity. I can't figure out how to turn it off--when I search for answers I just see lots of threads from people having the opposite problem, who want to disable their touch pad while typing. I currently have the Synaptic driver installed controlling my touch pad, and I can't see any options in its settings to disable this "feature". Can anyone tell me how to do this?

When I am typing in either email or word processing program the curser will frequently move making strokes appear where I don't want them. Why does this happen and how can I minimize it?

With the latest Synaptic drivers, when palmcheck is turned on, the mouse is disabled during typing, which I find infuriating -- because there's a lag when I'm trying to swtich between applications using the keyboard, during multitasking. I rolled back the drivers to 16.2.15.0; which does not turn off the touchpad during typing, even with palmcheck at its strongest. But this driver leads to certain problems with the touchscreen (including the inability to keep the on screen keyboard up for more than a second).  We should at least be given the option of whether we want to turn off the touchpad during typing. If we can't get a driver update that fixes this, I'll have to return this machine and get the x230 I should have gotten in the first place.

Seems Windows 7 when I type in file names and it sometimes locks the first letter of a word to lower case and no matter what I do I cannot force it to change from lower case to upper case again. How do I disable this feature or can I?

example file name

Barneys Night out on the town.avi

"town" is lower case and I want it to be upper case and windows 7 prevents me to change it back.

I looked in some of the help files and cant find the right topic on this.

thank you for any help,

dathyr1

Answer:How do I disable a Windows 7 smart typing feature

Hello Dathry1, and welcome to Seven Forums.

This is because file name text is not case sensitive in Windows 7, so Windows 7 sees town.avi and Town.avi as being the same name capitalized or not. This is why it does not change when you rename it with the same letter.

As a workaround, rename the file to say town1.avi, then rename it again to Town.avi to have it capitalized.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello, I'm facing with the problem of having the Synaptic TouchPad that freeze for 1 second after/while typing on the keyboard. Everywhere I find just 2 solution:Disable the PalmCheckTurn the PalmCheck sensibility to minimumI'm really sorry for bothering you you all, but .... [Flame MODE ON]....why the hell I have to work on the PalmCheck while my problem is keyboard-related?! Who even thinked about it? From a system called PalmCheck I would expect something like "advanced technology to recognize erroneus pressions on the touchpad from the hand palm", not exactly a "we are not capable of checking corretly for a palm pression so we disable your touchpad while using other devices". PalmCheck is a wonderful feature (and, I'd add, I paid for that) that saves me a lot while typing/developing.But if I want it I have to accept that I will have the TouchPad disabled for one second. That's so (*sorry*) stupid I cannot perform neither a simple CTRL+C/CTRL+V between two places/fields/windows without waiting for my mouse pointer to unlock after a second. And that's an action I perform hundred times per day! And I'm not even thinking about playing ANY game (so spending more for having NVidia technology and a i7 is useless).[/Flame MODE OFF]  .... is there a way for having the PalmCheck feature active (and set on how much I need [something like 80% of the slider]) AND be able to type without having a not justified delay on the TouchPad? &nb... Finally got frustrated with my ASUS laptop where the touchpad is too sensitive and I will be typing and if my hand accidentally touches or brushes against the surface it will move my pointer to a different section of whatever I am typing making a jumble mess.Google on this subject talks about going into mouse settings and there (might be) a setting there to set the touchpad to disable when keys are typed. My laptop doesnt have anything there of this kind. It was originally a Windows 8 laptop when purchased and I bought a license of Windows 7 to apply to it. ASUS dont have any touchpad drivers for this model and so its using the generic driver that Windows 7 64-bit installed with with no problems in functionality.So I went to track down a piece of software that I read about years ago on PCWorld and found this article here:https://www.pcworld.com/article/204693/Disable_Your_Laptops_Touchpad_While_You_Type_Windows_7_Edition.htmlYears ago I had a Toshiba Qosmio that was running XP and I used the TouchFreeze utility which worked well. I forgot the name of this utility so I went into first searching to see if Microsoft made a touchpad lockout feature as part of the OS feaures but didnt find one for Windows 7, so then I refined my search to touchpad lockout and PCWorld and found the article above, and it talks about sometime typing to use the older TouchFreeze with Windows 7 and it not working. So PCWorld updated this article to include a newer free utility Touchpad Pal that can sol... Read more

I just got my ThinkPad today so I'm pretty pissed off about this. Whenever I try and use the touchpad the cursor will randomly, every now and again, start jumping across and around the page, making it impossible to work with. It will also trigger random gestures, minimizing everything randomly too. I am seriously pissed off, this is ridiculous from Lenovo on a new and recent model. What can I do about this? I don't want to have to send it back a day after getting it.

Answer:E420s touchpad randomly moving cursor (even when not typing)

Okay I managed to fix the problem by installing the Synaptic driver. I have a little annoying problem now that if I hold my thumb on the click while moving the cursor, it is a little more laggy and stuttery than if I just do it without my hand on it.

Well I lost my old user id after Lenovo implemented their superfluous Lenovo ID here in the forums, so this looks like my first post.Problem is that after long stints of typing the touchpad acts as if Palmcheck is still enabled and won't move for a moment, though I've turned Palmcheck down to the minimum. It only happens after long periods of typing, and after that initial pause it doesn't happen for a good long while. Just one more annoyance in a long list of annoyances I have with this computer. Hello all,

Just recently after my Windows 7 Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop updated itself automatically to Service Pack 1 this morning, I've had trouble with mouse mouse. When I type on my keyboard the mouse freezes until I stop typing, this is noticeable when playing games. One suggestion I've has is to update my drivers from the Synaptics website, however my driver is newer than the ones on their site.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Answer:Compaq - Touchpad Mouse Freezes Whilst Typing

maybe bios is not up to date with the sp update-often happens with touch pads

often can fix it by going to mouse control/touch pad and resetting everything ie tick and untick to "remind" windows it has to use your driver

My cursor is behaving erratically.

There are two possible solutions to this problem:
If your TouchPad is dirty, use a small amount of ammonia-based window cleaner on a clean cloth and gently wipe the surface of the TouchPad to remove any dirt or grime. Having a clean TouchPad surface usually eliminates erratic pointer movement.
The TouchPad driver may need to be updated. Download the appropriate Synaptics driver from the manufacturer's support site. Uninstall the driver that is not working and then install the downloaded driver.

This is a well-known issue of Windows 8.1.See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2907018/en-us But the problem is still there even after I did what the article says.I disabled touchpad delay and installed hotfix from MS with no luck.So I guess MS hasn't fixed it perfectly or there is a bug in Synapics' driver. As a programmer, I alternate between typing keyboard and clicking buttons very quickly.So this is a huge problem to me. Is there anybody who knows how to fix/avoid this?

While typing on my Yoga 2 Pro, the cursor (insertion point) keeps being reset to where it started and selecting a block of text making typing on the laptop totally frustrating. I have tried increasing the PalmCheck setting to the maximum and also tried decreasing sensitivity to heaviest to no avail. This is using the latest Synaptics driver 17.0.14.6 dated 2013-10-26.I have also tried the 17.0.19.0 driver with "SmartSense" turned up to Max but it also keeps selecting blocks of text and deleting them as I type. It makes this laptop practically unusable without disabling the trackpad which then means you need an external mouse all the time.

Every device does this as far as I know, iPhones and Android. If people are close enough to see what buttons you're pressing, not having them highlighted won't change anything. If you're worried about strangers seeing your pin try using a longer one, no one will memorise it on one glance.

I do not like the touch pad. When I had Windows 8.1, I simply disabled it. But Windows 10 has a mind of it's own. I go into settings for touch pad and put a check mark where it says "disable touch pad". But as soon as I restart, the touch is enabled. I go where I put the check mark and it's gone--Windows just un-checked it. There are a couple of places where I can disable it, but upon restarting it goes back to where it was. I even went in Device Manager and disabled it there, but the same thing happens.

Normally that is quite easy:

If you do not have the Synaptics icon available then search for Synaptics from the Start search box.

Question: Disable Touchpad

I'm looking to disable the touchpad from within windows. I can disable in BIOS but would rather do it from within windows. Most drivers have an option in device manager to disable but the touchpad doesn't. Presently, Microsoft has installed it's official Windows 95 driver with it's updated version number, date and digital signature. Another option would be Synaptics driver but I'm not really into downloading and installing 14 mb's just to disable the touchpad. On the other hand, if I could get just the synaptics driver without the extra bloat, it might would work. Any ideas or suggestions?

It really gets ugly when I'm using the mouse and stop to type something in and the weight of my hands causes the screen zoom to adjust and jump.
Nasty... Is there any way to completely disable the touchpad until I really want to use it? Thanks.

Answer:Disable touchpad

You can probably disable it, but need to know which service runs for it. Open a command window and type the following at the prompt: sc queryex > c:\services.txt

then attach the services.txt file in your c:\ folder here.

I have an ASUS G75 notebook. I cannot find a way to disable the touchpad since upgrading to Win 10. I've googled and cannot find a solution anywhere. I've tried deleting the driver, Windows just re-installs it. I've tried disabling the software at startup thru Taskmanager, that doesn't disable the touchpad. Any help much appreciated.

EDIT: Got it. Disabled it in the bios.

Question: Disable touchpad

Hi, I'm new here - glad to have found this forum!

I stumbled upon a post that explained how to do this, but I lost it and apparently there is no "search." I followed the instructions to disable it through Device Manager, found it, but there's no way to disable it that I can see. I have Home Premium.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Disable touchpad

Hi cattywampus and welcome to Vista Forums

I take it that you are referring to a laptop or a notebook. Check your user manual for details on how to enable/disable the touchpad. As you have not provided any details on your machine (manufacturer, model number), I cannot help you any further as the method used varies. If you reply with the necessary details, I should be able locate some instructions for you.

Incidentally, if you scroll to the very bottom of the page you wil find a section 'Similar Threads'. You might like to check these out to see if they are of any help.

Hi, after 5 yrs of having my touchpad not working (which was fine with me, i don't like touchpads), it suddenly came on yesterday and won't turn off even when I disable it. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite. I didn't download anything nor change any drivers yesterday and I have no clue what to do next. I suspect I'll need to disable a driver, but I don't know how to know which driver it is nor how to disable it once found. Thanks very much for any/all help.

 I have been trying to disable my touchpad...I never use it.  I have uninstalled Synaptics device multiple times...it is currently not installed.  I went to settings and went to "mouse and touchpad" and under "further options" I used to have something that at least temporarily stopped it...now that setting isn't available.  I read somewhere that holding the touchpad in the upper left corner for a few seconds would disable it...nope, didn't work.  I have tried various things I have read on internet, and nothing works. I am now hating using this computer...HELP please!!!

Question: Disable touchpad

I've got the HP Pavilion dm3 1020ed.

It has a button to disable and enable my touchpad. Unfornately this won't work...

How can I create an other shortcut to disable / enable my touchpad? (or fix this button)

Thank you!

Answer:Disable touchpad

What touchpad software do you have installed? In Synaptics or Alps, you should be able to click on the driver icon in the system tray or on mouse settings in control panel, then go to the device settings tab and disable the touchpad from there.

Question: Disable TouchPad

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad R500 laptop on which Win 10 hasbeen installed. The laptop was given to me just to try Win 10. I dislike usingthe touch pad and want to disable it but I can't do it. One way that issupposed to work is to go to Control Panel and bring up the mouse icon. Whenyou click on its Properties it should bring up "UltraNav" tab. But thetab is not there. No matter what I do the tab is not there. I finally went on aweb site that said to install UltraNav and the site gave me a link to down loadthe installation file which I did. But as I tried to install it finally came upwith a message that said, "Synaptics device not found." I did asearch to see if I had a file named UltraNav but there is no such file. Doesanyone have a suggestion? Thank you
~~~Frank
Answer:Disable TouchPad
Might not be ideal, but can you disable it in device manager, under 'mice and other pointing devices'
on mine it shows as 'Dell Touchpad' in device manager
Hello, I had just gotten my computer today, and had finished installing things to the new computer when I noticed that the fn + f9 keyboard shortcut to disable my touchpad wasn't working. I went into my control panel, as well as device manager to try
and get to disabling it however within the mouse settings there is no mouse properties tab and within device manager I only have two options both of which do not solve my issue. Things will be very inconvenient if I am unable to disable the touchpad as I prefer
to use a mouse. How am I supposed to solve this?
Question: Disable Touchpad
Hi guys. Is there the ability to disable the touchpad on the W530? I don't see it as an option in the function keys. I am using a mouse and it's a bit annoying brushing my hand against it and having it mess something up. Thank you.
Answer:Disable Touchpad
Yes. You can disable it completely in BIOS (I've done that and also skipped installing the now unneccessary driver when I reinstalled Win7). Or you can go to the Control Panel -> Mouse, and disable the Touchpad there.
....if a USB mouse is present?
My users have Dell Latitude D630s with Synaptics Touchpads. They run Windows 7 Pro x86, and I was wondering if there's a setting/option/app that will disable the touchpad if a USB mouse was connected to the system. Many moons ago, the touchpads would be disabled when a PS/2 mouse was connected, but I haven't come across that functionality with USB mice.
Answer:Disable Touchpad...
I'm assuming the option isn't being displayed under:
Control panel> Mouse > Device Settings tab > Check the "Disable internal pointing device when external USB device is attached"
It depends on what Synaptics driver software is installed for that option to appear though.
Hi
I have an Advent 7204 laptop running Vista Premium. It's one problem is the touchpad. Double tapping the touchpad is the same as clicking one of the mouse buttons which is infuriating as it happens frequently when I don't want it to whilst typing!!!
I'd like to disable this feature but cannot find any option for it (I can't even seem to disable the touchpad entirely and use a mouse instead?!?!). None of the Fn buttons seem to do it and there is nothing in my system tray.
Anyone ideas greatly appreciated...!
