Brand new u310 - trackpad/touchpad problems

Question: Brand new u310 - trackpad/touchpad problems

Hi, I just unpacked and set up my new computer (u310) last night. Both last night and today I have had some issues where the two-finger scroll on the function just randomly stops working. It seems to work again after rebooting. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear All, I received my ideapad U310 Ultrabook in January. Everything worked well, except some screen blinking for an hour or two one day. I went on vacation in February and did not use my laptop for three weeks. When I came back, the touchpad did not work at all except for 10 minutes after I restarted the laptop.  I have checked on the Lenovo community website if there is a solution to my problem and dowloaded the latest drivers. Unfortunately, nothing has changed after I installed and restart my laptop. Do you have any idea what is the source of my problem? Thanks a lot, Florent

I recently purchessed a Lenovo IdeaPad U310 and it has a  three-finger, four-finger flick and a pinch zoom feature.  The finger flicks do not work anymore and it's only two or three weeks old. The four-finger flick horizontally would take me to a new screen orignally, one way being pictures and the other way being notes. It no longer does that when I swipe my four fingers. The three-finger flick would scroll up and down but it no longer works as well.  I went to the mouse/touch pad settings and it says that all three features are enable but it still does not work. Please help me fix this! Thanks

Hello all - I have an X1 Carbon that is only a few weeks old and have had nothing but problems...please see the list below.  They all seem to be somehow interrelated but I simply can't find a solution.   When powering up, the computer freezes mid start up (at the windows icon screen) until various buttons on the keyboard are pushed.  I've waited in excess of 5 minutes to start up to test this out...it seems that 100% of the time the computer will not start on it's own by simply pressing the power button.Once the computer does get to the start screen, the mouse cursor slowly drifts on its own across the screen until several more buttons are pushed on the keyboard to stop it (hitting right click a few times usually works).  This occurs both using an external mouse at the office and the touchpad at home. While in the Google Chrome browser, the tabs close when clicking them instead of switching to that tab.  Restarting the computer resets this, but throughout the day it will keep occurring.  Hitting the middle click fixes this temporarily (but that leads to a different problem).  This occurs both using an external mouse at the office and the touchpad at home.  This also has about a 100% failure rate after the computer wakes up from a sleep mode as well as sporatically throughout the day.Due to problems with trackpoint, my default is to keep trackpoint disabled.  When trackpoint is enabled, the cursor sporadically will change to som... 1st of all, trackpad in general is pretty weak. Tiny  and hard-to-press physical buttons and 2-finger scrolling is really finicky, wil only work if both fingers are pretty much perfectly aligned together. I can deal with that but I cannot deal with not havng the 2-finger tap function working as either a right click or middle click (the latter was the way it was configured on my old laptop) which is absolutley essential in my view. In all the settings menu's i've been able to get to I have not seen an option to enabe this feature, i'm not even sure if this model of trackpad has this capability (which would be incredibly pahetic and grounds for returning the computer). The trackpad model is Elan Smart-Pad with the following driver installed: ETDWare PS2/2-x64 11.4.31.1_WHQL  I'm a first time use of these forums so i'm not really sure how things work around here so I apologize for any breaches of protocol . Thank you in advance to anybody wh takes time out of their day to help me.

Answer:Got a problem with the trackpad on a brand new Z50-70

I've been trying to figure out how to enable middle-click and right -click functions on the touchpad. Its a Elantech Smart-Pad and I've already updated the drivers, taken from the lenovo support site. I've gone to every settings menu I can think of and have not found an option for enabling the above features with either a 2 or 3 finger tap. Ideally I would love to have 2 finger tap as right-click and 3 finger tap as middle click. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions as to how ho make this happen I would be very grateful, not having this feature really limits the functionality of this otherwise awesome computer.

Bought a new x360 yesterday afternoon.  $950.  Twice now on startup before the password screen where the date and time is displayed the screen acted erratically, jumping up and down for several seconds before the password screen showed.  When it does this the trackpad doesnt work at all after startup and everything keeps popping up like there is something clicking everything on my computer.  My hands arent anywhere near the trackpad and everything keeps popping up.  I hate to spend hundreds of hours getting all my data and programs transferred from my old HP just to have to return this.  Not sure what to do, thinking of returning it.

Hello, I have purchased my U310 with Windows 8 about 6 weeks ago and after 3 weeks the touchpad stopped working.I tried everything I could without deleting Files:-Installing driver-Uninstalling driver via Device Manager and installing them again.-Using a Windows Backup from a time with a working Touchpad The pointing device is still shown in the device manager with the yellow triangle. I hope someone can help me.

Answer:U310 Touchpad not working

hi GPHENOM,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

A yellow triangle mark on the device manager could indicate an error "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)".

If this is the error that you're getting, can you try download and install Aida 64 Extreme and post here the model of the Touchpad (see sample screenshot)

Hello, I have purchased a U310 Touch laptop one week ago. I am having difficulties with the touchpad while using Microsoft office (I cannot scroll up or down after using Word for instance). I know that this issue is well documented on your website. However, your solution to the problem is to install driver 16.3.4.0, which was preinstalled on my laptop. Just for the sake of it I have reinstalled it, but I am still facing this very annoying issue. I would like a quick response on your part as I am planning on returning the product if this issue cannot be solved.  Thank you, Alex Tremblay

Have you tried the two finger scrolling? This feature is usually enabled under Control Panel (large icon view) > Mouse > Device Settings Tab.instead of the one-finger scrolling.

Hi, I just got a new U310 ultrabook with Win 8.  Although I like it a lot, I found the touchpad too sensitive.  For example, sliding one finger from left to right, such as when I want to move the mouse cursor, sometimes causes the switching of applications or apps window.  This does not happen every time, but often enough to be very annoying because I have to switch back to the window by several steps.  It is more frustrating because it seems to switch from the desktop UI to the Metro UI. Has anyone else encountered the same problem?  If this cannot be solved easily, I will have to return it. Thanks.

Answer:U310 touchpad too sensitive

Hi Blue,

there is a multitude of settings available for the touchpad,
please go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items -> click Mouse,
in Mouse Properties click Device Settings -> click Settings,
in Properties for Synaptics Click Pad you can fine-tune the touchpads behavior to match your taste.

this procedure is for Win 7, it should be similar in Win 8,

good Luck... Zehn

Answer:U310 Touchpad sensitivity

hi mupadhyay0117,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Your problem might be similar to this thread. Try to adjust the touchpad's sensitivity to fix the issue.

If the computer came with a Synaptics Touchpad, can you try to:
1. Go to the Control Panel (large icon view) then > click Mouse > Device Settings tab > Settings
2. Under the Synaptics Settings, go to Pointing > Sensitivity > Palmcheck and adjust the bar near the maximum settings

If you have an ELAN touchpad, try to:
3. Adjust the PalmTracking option under Additional Tab on the ELAN Smart Pad settings near the maximum settings

Hi all, Hope someone can help me with this issue. My touchpad just stopped working. I have the windows 8.1 and my driver is update to date.  I can turn the touchpad on and off. But when it is on, even if I am not using it, it shows if there is something applying pressure on the touchpad. Here is a graph (while I am not touching the touchpad at all. usually there should be no green dot in the middle).  Is there a way for me to recalibrate the touchpad to get it working again.  Thanks for your help!

Answer:U310 touchpad not working

hi victoriage,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try:

While it's ON Hold down the power button until it shut off and continue holding down the power button for another 10 sec.

Turn on the system and start hitting F2 to load the BIOs settings,
Once inside the BIOs Press F9 to load Default then enter to confirm,
then F10 to Save and Exit and Enter to confirm.

See if that resolves it, if not

Boot to Recovery using the Onekey Recovery button until you reach a page where you can use a pointer / touchpad
see if the touchpad works here or not,

If the same issue under Recovery Mode, I suggest calling Lenovo Technical Support.

Hi Everyone,

I've bought a new Lenovo ThinkPad T440s laptop, which I am generally very happy with, except for two issues.
1. As I was upgrading from Win8 to Win8.1 and installing software, out of curiosity I ran sfc /scannow and it can back as corrupt and not able to repair (I then repeated three times with restarts, still no joy). I sent it back to be looked at, Lenovo returned it stating that it now passed all tests. However, when I run sfc / scannow, it still brings up the same result.

Having said that, it appears to run just fine, except for:
2. When it comes out of stand-by, the track-pad pointer freezes. I then have to use the Tab key to navigate to the Reboot thingy on the Start page. I have discovered that if I use the power button to put the laptop into sleep mode again and leave it for 10 minutes, when it comes out again, I can then use the trackpad as normal. (Hibernate is disabled, I put it to sleep and re-awaken by pressing the Power button)

Before I return it to Lenovo I would like to better understand what is going on here. The second point is probably a driver issue, the first point is more concerning.

Many thanks for any and all pointers, Chig.

Answer:sfc cannot repair & trackpad freezes - brand new ThinkPad

Please perform another sfc/scannow command in admin command prompt, reboot and try it again.
After you have rebooted and tried it again, please upload the cbs.log file found in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS (where C is the letter of the windows partition, if you use another letter please use that letter)

If the cbs.log file is too large, please use a 3rd party uploader.

Hello all, I was so happy when my new ThinkPad X250 Touch (i7-5600U, 512GB SSD, ...) arrived today. During installation and configuration I noticed that something is not right with my Trackpad - it stops responding sporadically. For example during software installation I had to left click the "Next" button several times until it finally recognized the click. To further examine the issue I performed several tests and found that both the left and the right mouse button function of the Trackpad sometimes simply does not work / register the click. Both tapping and clicking the Trackpad is showing the symptoms. When performing continuous clicking, the problem appears by average every 30 seconds. The length, the clicks are not registered, varies from a single unregistered click to several seconds not registering any clicks. The Trackpoint keys seem to work fine, however. I upgraded BIOS from 1.05 to 1.06, performed all available updates and verified that my Synaptics Thinkpad Ultranav driver was up to date (18.1.27.14). I even read the user manual to confirm I am using the Trackpad correctly :-) Does anyone have a clue what might be the culprit or how I can find out if it is a hardware or software issue?Am I an isolated case or are there other reports about this (haven't found any so far)?Has Lenovo over-engineered the X250 Trackpad with gazillions of touch gestures that the basic core feature (clicking) is now highly error-prone? Thanks in advance,&nb... Answer:Brand new X250 - Major Trackpad Problem

Technician was here today to fix the problem. He told us we're not the only ones with this issue. He was also surprised that Lenovo only provided him a cable that he should swap.Unsurprisingly the error was not fixed after he exchanged the cable. He will be back in a few days to exchange the Trackpad. But he already mentioned he's not really sure it will help and suspected a Mainboard fault. Not a happy customer, not at all!

Ordered it from a 3rd party seller on Amazon, high reviews. But, there was some evidence that the box had been tampered with (though the computer itself definitely looked brand new). One thing that seemed "off" was this trackpad wobble. The whole thing almost seems to be loose, on a spring, though it works completely fine otherwise. I took a short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO3a8h-S0Kw Is this normal? Thanks.

I've been dealing with a frustrating issue with my U310 Touch for a while now and thought I'd come here to see what else I should do or if anyone else has experienced this. Basically, sometimes I cannot move the mouse via touchpad. I don't have a bulletproof way to replicate the issue at will, but it seems that this comes up only when the system is being taxed. I think this is happening when RAM gets full, as if the touchpad driver is purged from memory and I have to wait for it to relaunch. I'm not sure. I have seen that there was a previously discussed issue like this when using Microsoft Office, but that is by no means the only time this happens. I generally observe this while using a browser only, though it certainly gets worse as more programs are in use. When this happens, there is usually first a period of lag system-wide, say because of a web page loading or something like that. This is very brief and acceptable since it is a mid-range machine. But everything else, including the touchscreen, will return to working order before the mouse bounces back. The pointer is visible but won't move and I can usually even input clicks, despite the fact it doesn't move. It will last from 15-60 seconds. I haven't figured out anything I can do that makes it come back, short of waiting. Because of the way it happens, I think it is a software issue. My spouse also has a U310 Touch and has the same problem. I have done a clean install of Windows, reinstalled drivers... Read more

Answer:Touchpad sometimes unresponsive - U310 Touch

I do not have a solution, but I too have this problem on my U410(non touch). It only happens once or twice a week so it doesn't bother me that much. I have to hibernate my laptop and turn it back on to fix the problem. I updated my synaptics drivers from 17.0.8 to 17.0.19 to see if that fixes it, but it doesn't happen that often so I can't get back to you for a while. Hopefully, someone knows what's causing the issue.

Hello, I am very ine xpereinced when it comes to computers, so please excuse my ignorance. Last week, I bought a Lenovo Z470 laptop with a two year warrarnty. This is my first Lenovo computer, and I read good reviews on the Z series. Yet, I started having problems with elements of the laptop immediatley after starting up the laptop, two problems specifically: 1. My mouse/trackpad moves randomly: Seriously it does. I will be scrolling down and the arrow will move to the top of the page. I thought maybe I was accidently pressing another part of the trackpad with my palm, but I am not. If I am typing in a word document, the mouse will move and click something else. It is fustrating because all I use my computer for is typing up documents.  2. Computer restarts (has only occured one time)- I was watching The Office on Hulu, not touching ANYTHING, and it restarted. When i logged back into the system, the laptop automatically loaded the office again and it started as though nothing happened.  Are these normal for Lenovo's? or am I just doing something wrong?  Thank you for your help, Sarah

Just got the 13 inch HP Spectre x360. Latest model with the pen (2017). What a beautiful machine. Love this thing. BUT, the trackpad is completely horrendous. Has a rattle when you even touch it lightly. Annoying. Is this a common problem? I don't want to keep exchanging this laptop if i'll just get another one with this issue. Is anyone else having this issue with the 2017 model. Is it an easy fix? I dont want to return this thing, but, I just might. I come from an Apple Macbook Air. That was the best trackpad I've ever used. This trackpad isn't even close to that. Everything else about this laptop is awesome. Any comments would be helpful in making a decision here.

My wife got a U310 Touch today which is a nice little computer. However it came with Windows 8 and she prefers Windows 7, so I took care of clearing the hard drive and installing Windows 7. We installed all the Windows 7 drivers from the Lenovo support site however the touchpad drivers fail to install. I tried manually installing the Synaptec drivers but it told me I don't have a Synaptec device. I then installed the Cypress drivers manually and rebooted but then the trackpad doesn't work at all. I looked in Device Manager and the Hardware ID for the PS/2 Compatible Mouse says SYN2B0B which appears by all internet research to be a Synaptics hardware ID, which would make it understandable that the Cypress driver didn't work but really irritating that the Synaptics installer won't run because it says I don't have a Synaptics device. What should I do? The default Microsoft drivers are OK but she really wants to disable the tap to click and adjust some of the other settings that aren't available without real touchpad drivers.

Hello I have recently installed Windows 7 on my U310 everything is great, but I can't install this Intelligent touchpad driver.  http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ca/en/downloads/ds030573  Everytime I try to install the driver, it says "Slp check failed" Please help, this is very frustrating as the touchpad running on the basic driver is too sensitive and is very annoying when I type. Thank you,Chris,

Answer:Just reinstalled windows 7 x64 and cannot install intelligent Touchpad software on U310

You could try this driver. It may or may not work.https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht078784

Just purchased a U310 Ultrabook about a week ago and have been pretty happy with it so far...however, every time I open Microsoft Office, the two and three finger scroll and zoom features on my touchpad crash.  I've tried updating the Synaptics driver for the touchpad but have continued to have issues.  Is someone working on a driver fix for this issue or is there another way around the problem?

Answer:Lenovo U310 Ultrabook Touchpad Issue - Microsoft Office?

Hi Pal,

My IdeaPad U310 Touch running Windows 7 is having touchpad problems. With no touchpad drivers installed, it shows up as a generic "PS/2 Compatible Mouse" and has basic functionality - I can move the pointer and click, but no gestures, scrolling or other touch features.

Link to image 1

I then installed 0wto11ww.exe, "TouchPad Driver (Synaptics, Cypress)" from http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-u-series-laptops/ideapad-u310-... . Version 15.3.33.0/2.3.6.31, released 4/24/2012.

After installing, I manually updated the driver via Device Manager and rebooted. Now the computer identifies the touchpad as a "Lenovo pointing device".

However, the computer doesn't respond to the touchpad at all. No mouse moving or clicking is working. Enabling/disabling the touchpad via Fn+F6 has no effect. I rebooted in safe mode and the touchpad was still unresponsive.

Link to image 2

I think I'm on the right track, because when I installed 0wto11ww.exe, the touchpad configuration tab showed up in control panel's "Mouse Properties". I can configure all the touchpad's advanced features now, but Windows 7 continues to ignore the input.

Any ideas on how to further troubleshoot this issue? Thanks!

Hi, I've just bought a IdeaPad u310 and I'm having trouble with the Synaptics touchpad when I plug the computer to a power outlet. When it's on battery only, if I keep my finger on the touchpad the pointer stands still, as it should be. But, I I plug the computer to the power outlet, when keeping my finger in the touchpad, the pointer jumps, making extremely annoying to use. Does anybody else have the same problem?

Answer:Ideapad u310 touchpad issues when plugged in to the power outlet

Hi fernandojs,

Welcome to the community.

Your issue is concerned to improper functioning of the touchpad ,while plugging in the Power adapter.

In order to resolve this please re-install the touchpad driver from the below web link:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073560

Afterwards, restart your system and check whether the issue gets resolved

Hi 1) I just bought the Y580 online. The trackpad is terrible. - How do I make the right-side and bottom touch scrolling to work ? just like a normal laptop ?? - I changed the sensitivity settings and inspite of that the motion of the cursor is not uniform. When the right side of my finger is contact with it, the cursor stops moving a little and it is okay with the center of my finger.Do any of you experience this? If not, I need to get this looked into. I don't think the problem is with the software, it's just the material with which the trackpad is made, does not have a right coefficient of friction. - The two finger scrolling does not start. When I do the two finger scroll, the cursor change is seen almost 10 seconds later and even after that, it is almost impossible to scroll through my pages. Is that the case for everyone?  - The left/right click on the trackpad is noisy 2) Made the mistake a buying a lower resolution screen. How do I return this thing? When I talked to sales they are asking for a 15% "restocking" fee. That is terrible as well. I never should have gone with Lenovo.

Answer:Y580 Trackpad (or Touchpad) Help

- Not sure if there is a right side and bottom touch scrolling, will test it tonight- not uniform? Means if you place your finger on the right side of the touchpad then move to the center compared to the center move to the left, the distance is different?- 2 finger scrolling not tested, will check it tonight- I am not sure how to help you with the touchpad being noisy when clicking. Do note that this is a 1 piece touchpad compared to the conventional touchpad with 2 buttons below which is different. Use double tap on touchpad to do a left click but right click is unavoidable. - low res screen... can check with sales if you can top-up for upgrade?hope this helps.

I dunno if it's a touchpad or a trackpad I have but there was a program along with it called like Apoint or something that would run and allowed me to change the settings on the touchpad. I have looked and can find no other way of accessing the touchpad settings. Well the last time I remember it working was before I updated Windows Vista, well now the program no longer runs I had it set to disable the touchpad when an external mouse was detected and it no longer does that. I went into its folder located at C:\Program Files\DellTpad\Apoint.exe and double clicked it and nothing happened. It use to run at startup but no longer does and I checked and it is still set to run at startup but does not, any clues as to what is going on? I believe I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.
I managed to fix it by going to Device Manager in the control panel uninstalling Dell Touchpad and rebooting.

I have a Lenovo x220tablet, alltough it took some time to adjust. But now i'm happy with it. But there's something wrong with the trackpad. I allready taught myself to use it without the pysical buttons in the bottom, and now make fully use of al that synaptics has to offer. But sometimes I have to use the buttons, because it comes handy when dragging something or whatever. At first, I did not like the buttons, but the where usable, but with time, they got worse. It is very hard to explain this for me in English, but, thats why I made a little movie which is linked below. Anyone suggestions what to do about it?Of course I've used google, and found many many topics about the trackpad, but that were mostly driver problems. http://youtu.be/a4XyxWopbt8 The click is so loud, it seems to get stuck somewhere and I have to push very hard. Almost like there's something stuck, like sand between it. But it's perfectly clean.Any advise (besides; do not use it) is welcome. And apologies for my English

Answer:X220t trackpad/touchpad

Hi, timpel_800

From the looks, sounds, and general functionality of the TrackPad, I would guess that there is a hardware issue of sorts. In the video, you say that the click function works, but only if you do it twice, correct? And the noise was far louder than a TrackPad is supposed to be, I think. With all this in mind, I would contact support and see if you can get this repaired. The number for support in the Netherlands is +31 (0)20 513 3939 and is open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.

Best of luck,
Adam

Today my x201 has lost all trackpad and touch pad function.   Hard disk constantly running.   No restore points listed to help remove the problem.   Everything works okay in Safe Mode.   Rebooting several times has not helped. Could this be related to the Microsoft Bad KB.......69 update? I have not installed any new software recently. I can only use the pen to access menus.    How can I remove recent KB installations using just the pen? Hope someone can help me soon Update:   I have managed to remove the bad MS update but to improvement.   Next I added a new user (also set as administrator) and the trackpad and touch pad function is now working normally but only with the new user account. Would someone tell me if I can remove my own Administrator Account and what effect this will have,  i.e. what data might I lose?   Can I save data and reinstall it to a new account?

Answer:Trackpad and touchpad not working

Hi Beemer,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that trackpad and touchpad is not working properly in your Lenovo ThinkPad X201.

Since the devices work fine in safe mode, probably a corrupted driver is causing the issue. Go to control panel -> Device manager, uninstall the drivers listed under Mice and other pointing devices. Restart the system and let Windows install the generic drivers for the device. Check if the trackpad and touchpad works fine now. Later, you may download the drivers from Lenovo Support page and install them. If you have any difficulties in finding the driver, please share the MTM number of your device.

Click here to understand how to transfer files and settings from one user account to another with administrator rights.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hello everyone,  I am having to send my Lenovo ThinkPad P50 to the service depot to have the touchpad and perhaps more replaced due to the trackpad not performing properly. The right click works intermittently both on the bottom and top right click button. The scroll feature at times stops working and the left click usually starts performing right click operations randomly. I knew it wasn't the driver after uninstalling and reinstalling it a few times including the keyboard driver. Has anyone here ever had to have their touchpad replaced?

Answer:Replacing Touchpad/Trackpad

Hi RegEdit1 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As the touchpad and buttons may have erratic behavior but not when using a USB mouse, then best that you have your warranty coverage work for you as the entire upper case that includes the touchpad mechanism to be checked.

Reviewing the hardware disassembly guide would take several screws needed to be worked at for the repair.
Sending it over could be a good option in terms of hardware issue for full functionality check.

Hi Lenovo & all, I use the trackpoint most of the time, but recently after updating the drivers for a number of times from Lenovo update manager I found out that the touchpad on my T60 is not working right. Symptom is that whenever my T60 is tilted forward or backward (i.e. not sitting horizontally flat), then there will be great difficult trying to control the pointer with the touchpad (not responding, etc). Did somebody encounter similar problem?

Answer:Weird Touchpad / TrackPad problem on T60

I found that the problem can be due to the palm rest region being pressed down my my palm:If I press the palm region up on the edge (as it flex a little bit when I use force), then the touchpad works fine even when the laptop is tilted. However, when I stop pressing up on the edge, especially after I have put my palms onto the palm rest to type again, then the touchpad stop behaving normally again It is a design fault of T60, or is it just my T60? Can I have it fixed?

Dell,
Touchpad  replacing  Trackpad  in Laptops

Users of the laptops are feeling difficult to use the touchscreen facility in the recent laptops, because the screen is perpendicular to the hand and fingers. In most of the laptops, the trackpad and the area left and right of it are vacant.  This area can be used as touchpad replacing trackpad,  as shown in the following figures.  This new touchpad is parallel to the hand and so easy to write, scribble, select, swipe and do digital signatures.

The touchpad can be enabled to function as trackpad using special key combination(s).  Many app and program icons can be displayed on this touchpad similar to those in tablets and smartphones.
Additional modifications can be included in this idea to make this feature very useful in laptops, desktops, All in one computers.
Reference:
The Touch Bar on MacBook Pro.
This Touch Bar on MacBook Pro is very small, difficult to view and difficult to reach by fingers for digital signatures and other actions as mentioned in the following weblink.

Hi all,  Having puchased a X1 Carbon few days ago, I realised that my trackpad and touchpad are acting erractically when I use the mouse at the same time. I detected these erractic movements due to some accidental touching of the trackpad and touchpad.  For example; my trackpad cursor would display a vertical and horizontal scrolling icons when I move the trackpad and I could not scroll my document using my mouse and touchpad. The scrolling icons would disappear after a short while and I would no longer move the cursor with the trackpad. However, the trackpad and mouse are able to move the cursor. However, scrolling remain unresponsive. I restart the machine and all is fine again till I tried to control the cursor with the trackpad again. I tried to disable the trackpad and touchpad since I have a mouse connected but only the trackpad can be disable.  This is my first Thinkpad and I assume users will disable both the trackpad and touchpad with a connected mouse. I do not know if these problem exist out of the box since I connect the mouse to it on my 3rd day of usage and I found them due to the accidental touching of the trackpad last night. Further trial and error confirmed their erratic movements. I tried to re-install the drivers and navipoint but the issue remained.  Is my trackpad and mousepad having problem for these erratic movements and by default, both the trackpad and touchpad cannot be disabled in Thinkpad?

If I press any of the trackpad keys the cursor is unresponsive for ~2 seconds. The problems occurs a while after booting. If I restart the machine it doesn't happen. What should I do?

Answer:Trackpad keys freezing touchpad

I noticed exactly the same behaviour after upgrading the driver to version 15.3.2.0. Also when i use the trackpoint, the touchpad freezes 2 seconds..... Somehow the UltraNav driver always seems to give some kind of problems... :-( With the buttons it only happens with the red lined buttons above the touchpad. Not with the two buttons below it. --jan

The Trackpad on this laptop is become really unusable. The cursor is jumping around when you lift your finger from the trackpad. I am finding it very difficult to use Photoshop and cannot do anything precise which is ironic as this is a precision touchpad. There is nothing precision about it.
Please Dell fix this. For me this is the only thing holding back the best Ultrabook ever made.

I just got this laptop today and immediately noticed the same exact thing.  It's driving me nuts and really creating problems navigating.  I am really hoping this can be fixed with a software update and it's not hardware related.  I'm also wondering if this is just a flaw on certain units or all of them act like this.

Hey guys, I'm having problems with the touchpad buttons: the system can't distinguish a left click from a right click. Whenever I click one of the two buttons the system reads it as if I'm clicking on both and keep pressing. I tried also to disable them and use the trackpad but also those buttons are not working well. They just work for a couple of minutes and then they stop. However if I run the Thinkvantage suite they seem to work fine and the system reads the click properly. What do you think is wrong? Thanks

Answer:Touchpad and Trackpad Buttons not Working

Today I noticed both my touchpad and joystick stopped working.  I could move the cursor but the clicks would not register.  I restarted and it worked again.  I recall a couple of days ago I updated the drivers, one of them I think was for the touchpad.

Guys I see hundreds of posts on this old and aggravating topic with totally guesswork "answers" from Microsoft, help forums, including this one. There has to be an answer, right?

BTW this seems common on all types of laptops irrespective of make. I have tried this with both the vendor [lenovo] driver and with standard MS provided "mouse" driver. No diff in this regard though the packages are very different [lenovo very complex]
Also, this is a new phenomenon on this particular unit. In the past, no issues. Windows power-plan update?

as title says. Use laptop. Leave laptop [plugged in or not does not matter]. Return to use laptop after hours. Laptop awakes by normal means but no touchpad/trackpad etc function. Logoff, logon, still no touchpad cursor movement [frozen in centered position].

There is no Power Plan setting for "mouse" or touchpad or trackpad.
There is no Advanced Tab in Device Manager for same
There is no sleep/power/etc settings anywhere in Device Manager for same
There is no Windows error related to the problem
Full reboot required to gain coherency

Something in Power Mgmt, I guess, is offing the touchpad but the parameter is not obvious.

Someone somewhere knows this answer, right??

Answer:Touchpad Trackpad inoperable after sleep

Other then the button to disable the trackpad being somehow accidentally pushed, A lot of the times this problem is reported, And I keep going through all the options. If you have done all the fixes, the problem is most likely with the touchpad itself on the laptop. It is usually a hardware issue. I would call the laptop company and go through their troubleshooting steps (even though forums usually cover all those angles well). But it is usually hardware if all the fixes that are suggested are applied.

The trackpad and touchpad of my Yoga stops working: the cursor freezes and after a while disappears from screen. Once the cursor is gone it does not appear again, even after a clean reboot. I have tried to enable it via the Control Panel Mouse settings or Input section of ?Lenovo Settings? application but had no success.
The problem has happened several times so far, always after the laptop sleeps due to inactivity. The only way I have found so far to bring the trackpad and touchpad back is by going to the BIOS settings and restoring the default configurations (I have never changed the BIOS settings on this PC, so I can?t figure out why this solves momentarily the problem).

Any ideas on why this problem is happening, and how to solve it without messing with the BIOS settings?

This is becoming really annoying, it has happened three times since yesterday (10/23/15).

My BIOS version when this first happened was 1.26 (GQET46WW), my current BIOS version is 1.27 (GQET47WW). My laptop runs Windows 10 Pro (automatically updated from the Windows 8.1 version delivered with the laptop).

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working. I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work. If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Whenever I wake my chromebook from sleep the trackpad function is inoperable. There is no cursor displayed and using the trackpad does not appear to have any effect (i.e. no "invisible" cursor either). Upon reboot all trackpad function is restored. This started happening after I had been using my chromebook for a few months, so I'm guessing there was a software update associated with it, but I have no idea which one. Anyone else experienced this? TIA

Unfortunately, the trackpad and touchpad of my T460p stop working intermittently. The problem seems to occur after the laptop is going into hibernation. When it boots up afterwards, neither the trackpad nor the touchpad or the mouse buttons work, and the device manager shows the Synaptics device having a hardware issue. The problem persists when rebooting the system and even when using a different operation system (e.g. Ubuntu via a Live USB). I tried upgrading the Synaptics drivers (v19.0.19.1), which does not solve the problem though. I also tried different driver versions (e.g. the ones offered on the Lenovo site), without success. I encountered this problem both on Windows 10 Home & Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, as well as various Linux flavors (Ubuntu, Fedora). The only workaround that I found is to shut down the laptop, remove the battery and reboot it afterwards, which seems to reset the faulty state the touchpad is in. I strongly suspect that this is a problem with the firmware of either the mainboard or the Synpatics device itself, which puts it into an invalid state when going into hibernation. For now, I disabled hibernation mode, which avoids the problem but is not ideal of course. Did someone else run into this problem? Any ideas how to permanently fix this? I'm very happy with the T460p otherwise but this problem just drives me crazy as it's impossible to use a laptop without touchpad/trackpad when traveling.

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-touchpad-and-trackpad-stops-working...

Hello, I posted as a part of another thread before but decided to make my own thread for this. I have lost my lenovo partition and reinstalled windows 10 on a fresh install.  This has resulted in my trackpad being rendered unfunctional. I have tried all sorts of drivers to try and get it working but alas nothing has worked. I contacted the live support and they just told me to install the Lenovo companion and give that a go with the drivers from that, but it did nothing to help and ended up downloading the same drivers I tried before.   I have the same issues in Ubuntu also and there is no activity when it comes to the pad, the buttons dont work nor does the motion.  I have looked around on the internet and found next to no solutions for the problem I have.    On my device manager I have however one single unknown device, which I have tried to install drivers onto and that doesnt work also, so I have no idea what that could be.   I would like any advice at this point becuase its driving me mad and I am unable to return the laptop due to being currently in another country.   Thanks in advance.

I recently got this new Thinkpad T460p and installed Windows and Ubuntu in dual boot. Even after 3 Days there was no error. But today I noticed a quite annoying behaviour. When I boot into Windows (Start up --> Grub, select Windows Loader --> Windows 10 starts) there appears the loading cycle (those white points) and for a short moment, even before the locked Windows screen appears, I can see the cursor. But immediately after that (when the locked home screen appears) the laptop won't recognize any input via touchpad, buttons or trackpad andthere won't appear a cursor at all. I need to login and wait for about a minute (Whatever I do, the laptop won't recognize anything but the normal keyboard), thats the moment in which my Laptop realizes that there are more possibilities to input data then just the keyboard and recognizes everything (touchpad, buttons and trackpad).I already deinstalled the synaptic driver and reinstalled the latest update and even tried the one before that one just to be sure. Nothing fixed my problem yet.PS.: When I start into Ubuntu there is no Problem at all.PPS.: When I started into Windows a day ago It worked fine as well.

I could really use some help with this. I've searched all over the net and there isn't a real solution to this. Most threads are closed or never answered. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 and everything works fine but when doing things fast or under high cpu load my trackpad locks up for a second and if I try to keep using it it will trail slowly until I stop for a second then go and it works again. Something is temporarily locking it up and it can be very annoying during some things.

It is a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad. Using "device driver update" produced no new hardware that matched better than what I have currently. The funny thing I noticed is the device drivers for my model on Dell doesn't match what I have..

http://goo.gl/9Cc53

None of those 3 under Keyboard/Mouse match what I have. Or do they? I matched the synaptic version and it didn't match anything there. Here is a list of my shipped system specs:

Answer:Vostro 1510 Touchpad/Trackpad Freezes Randomly

Ran the Dell diagnostics and using the symptom tree I ran the 2 tests that fit this issue (I guess it's a real common problem for it to be standard in the system tree) and it didn't detect any errors/issues. All passed. By the way, to clarify what I meant by High CPU Load I was speaking of the cylinder light on the keyboard dash. I think that's actually for the HDD not CPU. So again it seems to happen when the hdd is already under load.

Hi I have an X100e (dual core turion ybased) which appears to have developed a problem with the left most key at the foot of the touchpad. Specifically, it has developed an annoying clicking sound periodically when in use. I believe the click may be something to do with a bar that may be sitting under the key to ensure that the whole key moves parallel to the keyboard when pressed (much like other wide keys such as the space bar, the shift or enter kes). What I would like to know is whether there is a way to reseat the key to resolve the clicking sound or whether rectification of the problem lies in returning the product to a service centre for the palm rest (part code: 60Y5284) to be changed. Roger

I've tried everything. No one had ever had this problem, except me. Searching online and Youtube proved to be no help. I beg all of you who have experience with issues like this to please read.

When I first brought my laptop (ASUS Q304UA) , it was perfectly fine and no problems. However, up until 7 months into using it, the trackpad suddenly became unresponsive out of no where. It would jump around and fly everywhere when using it. The multi touch gestures would make the screen go crazy and do all sorts of zooms, multitasking, etc when just trying to scroll down. It was definitely unusable.

This prompted me to RMA it to ASUS, which took them one month to repair it. They had apparently replaced only the hard drive claiming it was a "bad sector" or whatever... Upon several hours of use after repairs, the problem was back.

I then RMA'd it a second time which made them replace the motherboard and trackpad. Unfortunately, the problem did come back, except it took a little longer (5 days/ 1week).

Now I know that this is NOT hardware because I encountered that restarts, restores, etc all solve the problem temporarily and then comes back. When messing with programs and devices, I feel the mouse gets a little better for a couple minutes but then resumes to its terrible and erratic behavior, rendering my laptop COMPLETELY useless.

I cannot do ANYTHING with this trackpad as it constantly jumps around and teleport making it EXTREMELY difficult to click on the ... Read more

Hi all,

I've basically spent the whole day looking for a solution (which I still don't think I have), so figured I'd try my luck here.

The trackpad/touchpad (mouse cursor) on the Dell XPS 13 (9343) will randomly freeze-up, stop scrolling, stop being able to mouse click, start randomly resizing/scrolling or will cease to do anything at all after a while. This is a known issue apparently and commonly experienced by most owners.

Does anyone know of an actual solution for this? Dell released a firmware update that supposedly addressed the issue however unfortunately mine started doing it again today to the point where I had to literally power the machine off and reboot.

From what I've read here:

YES!!! A SOLUTION/ACTUAL WORKING FIX! XPS Laptop's - Touchpad / Touch pad / Mouse issue. Windows 8/10 need apply. Scrolling in Chrome mirrors that of Edge. Now THIS is Precision. Scrolling you're actually used to seeing on a laptop. : Dell

It sounds like my next move might be to try installing the windows 10 PS/2 generic driver from Synaptics?

Any advice/help on this would be greatly appreciated! I can't really find any solutions or updates past 2015..

Between this and trying to update my sound driver, I'm losing my hair, FAST.

Just got the Yoga Pro 2 this week. I'm noticing a small movement in my clickpad (or whatever its calls) when I lightly tap on it. It feels like there is a 2 to 3 millimeter pocket of space under it before it provides resistance for the actual click motion. If you take your finger and just lightly tap your finger on the touchpad do you hear and feel a slight vibration, like it might be loose? I know it has to move downwards motion to activate the mouse click buttons, but I feel like there is movement in the pad before I get resitance for the click motion. I'm wondering if this is the design or I just got a slightly off designed one. Does it feel solid on your Yoga Pro 2?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Clickpad Touchpad Trackpad movement and vibrations

I had the same problem with mine.  Every time I'd just lightly tap the pad in order to "click", I'd actually hear a click.  Very annoying.  Some odd movement under the pad that just didn't seem right. I ended up exchanging it at Best Buy (where I bought it).  The best buy guy tried to claim it was normal, but didn't mind at all when I insisted that I wanted to exchange.  The replacement has no issues.

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

Hello all,

I unboxed this laptop today and the touchpad does not respond very well often requiring a few seconds of "wiggling" before it will work. It is also quite jumpy.

I have tried changing various settings including the sensitivity and the plam prevention, but to no avail.

I have tried this with multiple operating systems, including launching directly from a disc, and the problem persists.

Has anyone else had this experience, or any advice to share regarding this matter?

Thank you all very much for your time.

Answer:Qosmio X870-119 - Trackpad/Touchpad is extremely unresponsive

Hello,

I, too, have just unboxed a Qosmio X870-119 and have the same problem with the touchpad.

I noticed that the "unresponsiveness" happens most often when I leave the touchpad idle and untouched for a few seconds. When I do that, it then takes a couple seconds of wiggling for the cursor to start moving.

I've also toyed with all the options in the provided software, but to no avail. Maybe there's a fault with the driver ?

Thanks in advance for any help with this matter.

Following some extremely helpful posts here, I've succeeded in installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my HP Pavilion 15-n228us. I can't figure out how to adjust any settings on the touch pad / track pad, however. It's overly sensitive right now and interferes with typing. I assume I'm missing a driver that will enable me to control it?

I have two issues and would appreciate any help.  In a nutshell: Bluetooth module is in place, but doesn't appear in Device Manager. What is the part no. for the cable that connects the bluetooth module?Touchpad/trackpad stopped working after disconnecting/reconnecting its ribbon cable (while checking the bluetooth module) - I can see the little gold fingers at the motherboard end are now messed up. What is the part no. for this trackpad ribbon cable? In more detail:1) On my T430S I replaced the bluetooth daughter board because I thought it might be faulty - but I can still not see any bluetooth hardware in device manager, and no driver installation seems to get it to show. Can someone please tell me the part no. of the ribbon cable and small board 'Bluetooth Wireless Radio Switch FPC' (see https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/documents/pd023563).2) After messing around with the bluetooth module (see above), thetrackpad/touchpad and trackpoint no longer work. I can see now that the ribbon cable's small gold fingers are damaged (the cable poking straight up from the trackpad and connecting to the motherboard. This is the more serious problem - but I can't work out what the part number is for this ribbon cable. My keyboard bezel does not have a fingerprint reader.Thank-you again for any help

The cursor is jumping around when you lift your finger from the trackpad. I am finding it very difficult to use Photoshop and cannot do anything precise which is ironic as this is a precision touchpad. There is nothing precision about it.
In this post someone found a firmware Dell for XPS13, Is there something similar for 5559?

Just making sure I'm reading your post correctly, you do have the precision touchpad on the Inspiron 5559 ? Correct ? If you don't know for sure, go to device manager, stroll down to "Mice And Other Pointed Devices, and then expand it. Hopefully, you'll see touchpad driver.

Product: HP Spectre x360Product #: L0Q59UA#ABL Hi, I'm having a problem with the touchpad's sensitivity and responsiveness. My father bought me this laptop a week or two ago and it's been great. By far the best laptop I've had thus far, but now it is having a major issue with the touchpad. I've scoured and googled this problem and these forums and found similar things but all the solutions offered were ineffective and I'm also having some problems I didn't see reported about. The touchpad was fine at first, and whenever I restart the laptop, it's fine and works as intended. However, a few minutes into use, if that, it starts to act up. By this, I mean the following: The cursor does not go where I intend itIt's laggyLeft click results in that omni-directional scrolling icon and trying to move the mouse means scrolling/moving the page.Right click moves off to the side and is generally weird and cannot click accurately.I can no longer soft tap to click/select something. The mouse moves on its own. It's very erratic and makes typing or clicking or selecting very difficult. The page scrolls down on its own.I'm starting to think my laptop is haunted. There's more I can't think of right now, so I might edit the original post/comment with more info or make a subsequent post in this thread. I've tried to clean the touchpad with a lightly wetted towel (to get rid of any oil finger stains or whatever), and follow... I am running the latest build of Windows 10 (build 10240).

Now that release date is coming driver updates are arriving for my laptop (Acer ES1-111M). One of which is for the Synaptics touchpad. When I apply this driver and restart my laptop the trackpad no longer works and the new driver has an error in Device Manager and cannot start.

This device cannot start (error code 10)

The specified request is not a valid operation for the target device.

If I try to update the driver it says the latest version is installed. I have to rollback the driver to the previous one supplied by Microsoft and the trackpad works again, However the entire process repeats when the Synaptics trackpad update is automatically installed again by Windows Update.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks.

So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad. For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).  I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly. After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything. I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine). Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.  I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem? The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you) Thanks a bunch,Amanda

Hi guys, I am trying to maintain my doughter's school aptop but encountered something exceding my limited expertise. Since about 10 days the touchpad, buttons and the red thingie stopped working. I have read all the forum issues, uninstalled the drivers and re-installed new ones (first through the lenovo sulotion centre, then the synaptics generic version). About 6 times now. That didn't work. It says "component not present, not working correctly or divers not fully installed, error 24" (translation from Dutch, probably used some incorrect terms).Running windows 10 on this t420. All worked fine untill this happened. I saw that some new mouse drivers have been installed around the day of malfunction but can't find how or where to remove those (still getting used to this windows 10).Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So far, there's just 2 of us with trackpoint / touchpad problems as a result of installing Windows 10.  My post:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420-Win-10-Pro-Ultra-Nav-19-00-12-61-Tr... I've combed through this forum and have no one else reporting these same issues; most are reporting that left and right click buttons are working, but the middle button did not work.  In my case, it was the opposite; the middle button scrolled (albeit very choppy), and the left / right buttons were dead.for my Trackpoint.  It's not a hardware issue, as all buttons function as normal in Win 7, but upon installation of Win 10, the buttons do not work.  I went so far as to do a clean install of Win 10 to ensure there were no conflicts between Win 10 and any leftover Win 7 system files, only to end up with the same old left and right button problems. So until the Ultra Nav drivers to enable full functionality of trackpoint / touchpad device, the only solution is to use a physical mouse or revert back to your prior operating system.

When scrolling with the index finger on my right hand I will regularly hover over and lightly touch the left button with my left index finger in anticipation of the link/button/text box etc that I am about to click on. I have always done this an never encoutered any issues on the numerous laptops I have owned and used in the past). When I do this on my newly axquired Lenovo Yoga 900 it causes the mouse pointer to lag momentarily. I have updated drivers (v19.0.17.57), I have turned off ALL Multi-Finger options (2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger) and reduced Palm Tracking to the minimum. Is this behavior isolated to me, or are other experiencing the same behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good evening, Every now and then, after using the laptop for a while, or getting it from sleep mode, the touchpad simply quits working as it should. Clicking by simply tapping the pad stops working, and clicking by really pushing in the trackpad itself will only activate either right or left click. Sometimes it even quits working at all. After rebooting the device the issues will be over, which makes me think it is some sort of a software issue. Also every now and then, while working in my student room, my laptop loses its internet connection. While there are many Wi-Fi signals in my student room-complex, it can't detect any of them. Then, after waiting for some time and rebooting the device once or twice, the connection will get restored, and all the other signals are back as well. Both issues aren't very huge, yet very annoying when working on a paper or so. Especially since I bought the laptop a little longer then two months ago, assuming due to it's price and the ThinkPad?s reputation (being able to stop a bullet and yet still work) this is a huge disappointment Anyone who has a solution for me for either one of these problems? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

I have also noticed some wifi problems on the W540. I have the Intel AC7260, and occassionally, it stops working - reporting a driver problem. When this happens, it is not working at all and cannot scan for available wifi networks - exactly like you report. However, if I do a quick uninstall and scan for hardware changes within device manager, normal operation is restored, without having to reboot repeatedly. After a while, it will stop working again - this is not too frequent, however. I assume it is a dirver problem.

Randomly, after 20mins or 1hour of use the touchpad will become unstable. Some of the symptoms are: -Movement becomes inverted and/or stutters and doesn't respond fully-The entire touchpad turns into a scroll wheel rather than just the right side that's dedicated for that function-The entire touchpad turns into a resize pointer, so when I try to move the pointer it's only resizing the screen rather than actually moving the pointer. This is not what I expected from a laptop I just purchased a few days ago... No 3rd party software has been installed. I've only been using it to browse the web. Anyone  have any ideas or have had similar problems? It's going to be a b*tch returning this.

I powered it off and restarted, the touch pad was fine for a few seconds whilst windows was loading, but then locked again as soon as the start screen had finished loading up. I'm not that computer savvy, so have no idea if this is a fault in the machine or a simple to fix thing.

Hello,I've just started up my brand new HP Spectre X2 laptop/tablet hybrid and the touchpad does not work at all. There is not even any reference to a touchpad within the settings. For example under Settings - Devices - Mouse & Touchpad, there is only mouse settings, no option to turn a touchpad on or off as I've seen in other screenshots. Likewise if I go to Mouse Properties, the last tab is "hardware". There is no additional tabs relating to a touchpad. It's as if the touchpad doesnt exist as far as Windows 10 is concerned. The touchscreen works, as does a plug-in mouse but the touchpad is dead as a dodo. It does not repond to touch or to clicks. I have performed a hard reset, tried the double tap top-left, done a windows update, and updated the only driver that seemed relevent from the HP Support site but it's still not working at all. Would anyone have any ideas? My heart simks at having to send it back off to HP. Cheers

Just purchased a new Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop and booted it up for the first time today.  I am having difficulty figuring out the touchpad, specifically the scrolling.  It worked initially during set up, but then once I had that done, I can no longer get it to scroll - at all.  I have looked through all settings, and it seems like everything is right.  The drivers are up to date as well.

I just received my XPS 13 9630 5 days ago.  Straight away I noticed not-so-occasional screen flicker/flash.  The trackpad also scrolls irregularly with variable speed, jumpiness, and even locking up completely.

This was WAY too expensive to have these problems right out of the box.  Before I RMA this, what simple things should I try myself?  Anything that involves a reinstall or BIOS involvement is beyond what I feel is worth keeping this machine for.

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you, Andy

Problem is I am getting all these pixels on my screen. I don't know what it is but it only started after a day on my new machine. I did a bunch of updates and installed the driver that came with the Card but It is really bugging me that this brand new machine is messed up! I thought it was a temperature issue but its running at 37 C so its not the temp of the Card! What else could it be? I will install the newest driver and see if that changes anything and will post back with my results!

Okay so here is my story. A friend of mine is buying a new computer at BestBuy and I go there to meet up with him and he buys the computer and a service plan , spysweeper software, and some antivirus software that best buy offers. So he takes it home and I had planned on coming over to install the security stuff he bought but I couldnt make it over that night. He ended up finding someone local with an open internet connection and got online and looked up a bunch of porn. He calls me to tell me the computer has some problems. The next day he brings it to work and I cant even boot the computer up into windows. So I ran a few selftests in the bios utility on the hard drives and it passed. Later that day we tried to go into safe mode and attempt to add/remove some of the familiar stuff. I found spysheriff on there and removed that. And attempted to run spysweeper but it had corrupted files and could not perform a scan. At this point in time I attempted to return the computer to best buy and they refused because they saw the spyware and said they will not repair it or cover it under their protection plan. I then took the computer home and am unable to get into safe mode anymore , it gets stuck on mup.sys and the same goes for attempting to get into command prompt. But I am now able to get into windows but on startup I get slammed with error messages and popups, as well as the computer running very slow. I attempt to re-install spy sweeper and scan but before the scan can finish it... Read more

Answer:Brand new laptop Brand new problems help!!

Personally, since it's a new computer I would simply format and reinstall. If you have your personal files on the computer then we can manually remove these infections with some time and work.

Let me know!
