U310: Very poor battery life under Windows 8

Question: U310: Very poor battery life under Windows 8

Hi, Lenovo U310 - i5 - Windows 8 A week ago I upgraded from W7 to W8.In its W7 period batterylife was quite according to expectations - 5 hours with connected external drive, USB printer/scanner, second 22" screen - but since I switched to W8 batterylife barely reached 3 hours. Can anybody explain this and can I expect another firmware update where these W8 issues will be solved? Thanks in advance Grtz,Jim

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have a Xiaomi MI4 running Windows 10 Mobile ( 10586.164 build ). But I noticed that my phone has a poor battery life. Battery percent decreases by 1% every 15 min if I keep the screen on . Is it a problem on my phone or is it common . Please tell me because I am really nervous because my phone has a non removable battery . Any help would be really appreciated . Thanks in advance .

Answer:Windows 10 Mobile Poor Battery Life

are you sure that its 1% per 15 min? thats equivalent to 25 hours of screen-on time. not even my phone with 4000 mah batery can pull that one.lol. if you meant 10% then that is equal to 2.5 hrs of SoT which is really poor.

Hi, I have a Z580 ideapad (i3), since I upgraded my computer with windows 8 pro, the battery life is about 2 hours only:  Power saver mode + brightness 50% + Nvidia card is off (instead of + than 4h  with Win 7). And since that time, the fan is always on and the fan control button is not working. All the driver are up to date, i have the last "lenovo battery manager" installed. Do you know if a fix or a bios update is available for this computer?  Thanks in advance! JC

Answer:Z580 with windows 8: very poor battery life

Hi sika95Actually the lenovo battery manager of windows 8 is bugged and doesn't allow some features to work. This is being discussed herehttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Z570-Lenovo-Energy-Management-for-Windows-8...The temporary fix is to use the windows 7 lenovo power manager. You can download it from the driver page.Regards

When I had my native windows 7 setup..My battery life was amazing. 7 hrs easily.  With 9 cell battery. But ever since I upgraded to windows 10...my battery life has dwindled to 3hrs. And the cpu is always running hot. I guess lenovo optimized the t430 for windows 7/8.  Which makes sense.  Anybody else experiencing the same thing on their machine??  On a side note...the t430 is my favorite thinkpad of all time.  It has excellent battery life, lots of ports, msata capability, backlit keys, the last thinkpad with 4 tactile mouse buttons for trackpad and pointing stick. Only thing I iwsh it had was 1080p resolution for the 14inch model. But 1600x900 is lovely. Every thinkpad that came out after seems to have cut corners to be more like an ultra book. sigh..

Despite the manufacturer's claim of 7 hours battery life on my Lenovo Ideapad 320S-14IKB - 81BN (S/N: MP1CHQTJ), I only get around 3-4 hours. This is with light usage, Reddit, a little bit of youtube etc. CPU usage was mostly around 0-5% the entire time. This was with the max CPU state in power settings reduced from 100% to 85%. However, I do have the screen at 100% brightness. As a different test, I tried doing (almost) nothing (apart from keeping the screen bright), and got 6 hours out of the battery. Is there a simple solution to increase this? It's only a 30 Wh battery (2 cell). Maybe in the future, a 60 Wh (4 cell?) one will come out for this model?

Hi all- I've had my X201T with core i7/2.13GHz, 4GB RAM and 8-cell battery for around 2 months now, and I'm only seeing about 2 hours of battery life before I need to plug-in. I'm running Windows 7 x64 with power options set to "Energy Saver." Is this normal/expected battery life for this configuration? Thanks,Darren David

Answer:Poor battery life on new x201T w/ 8-cell battery

That's not very good. My 4 cell battery gets 2.5 - 3 hours with typical use (wifi on, OneNote, firefox, screen backlight set to 9).My 8 cell battery gets around 6 hours under the same conditions. Video playback can kill those numbers though.

So I reinstalled Vista the other day, and even before that a bit, my battery life was simply terrible. At one time, I was able to get 5 hours maximum. Now, I can (at max) get 2 hours and 15 minutes out of a 9 cell battery. There was a previous topic on this forum, but like many other topics in the Lenovo forums, the topic was deleted. Nearly everything that I've searched for regarding problems with my thinkpad, I have found a topic that linked here, but was since deleted. Very annoying.   So, I have power manager 2.41a. The battery is correctly listed,  (86 Wh Li-Ion). I powercycled it one night, and it changed to 3 hours, but it went back down to 2. I should be getting at least 5, but I've heard reports of people getting 10 hours. I'm no where near that! I'm on power saver setting, and my brightness is at about half. I have all the latest drivers, System Update didn't return anything.  Also, my switchable graphics has stopped working, as it has with plenty of other people. Any word on when a fix for this will be out? It's disappointing to spend $1400 on a laptop, only to have key features stop working. My first experience with Lenovo has not been a good one so far. I thought these things were supposed to be rock solid? That's why I bought it... the keyboard on this one sucks, it's matte instead of rubberized. It's plastic everywhere.... Why spend a premium on something that gets me the quality of an HP or a Dell? Why not spend half the price? &n... Read more

Answer:T400 Battery life very poor. 9 cell battery.

Okay, a couple of things. First to address your battery life. If you are using the latest ATI Switchable graphics drivers then do this: Start -> Run -> type 'MS Config' hit enter. Go to the start up tab and uncheck the following:  igfxpers.exe; igfxtray. For whatever reason, the new ATI switchable graphics driver when on integrated mode hangs the processor causing it to use 50% of the CPU resources. I found my power usage went from 14-16 watt draw back to 8-9w draw. Next for the switchable graphicsdo this: Lenovo just released Power Manager 2 on 1.5.09. So far, I didn't see it available on the Auto Update utility but I found it when browsing the downloads page. So me being OCD about having the latest versions of software/drivers, I decided to download it. After the install, I found that my switchable graphics wasn't in the left click menu as it always has been. I right clicked and did not see it there either. Remembering what I did for the clean install (I went back to factory install), I did the following steps.Restart computer -> go into BIOS and select Discrete graphics only. Let windows start and re-install the drivers. Did another restart to ensure functionality. Then I went back to the BIOS and selected Integrated only. I let windows start, and again it had to re-install the drivers. Once this was done, I entered the BIOS again and put the display to OS detect function and booted windows normally. Thinking I had it fixed, I left clicked on t... Read more

Question: Poor battery life

This is the second time I upgraded my laptop to Vista from XP, and this time the battery life sucks.
First time, battery lasted about 1-2 hours.
With XP, it's 2-2.5 hours.
Now, it's 30-45 minutes.
How can I improve this life? Or does it improve with time as ReadyBoost and SuperFetch or something settles in?

Answer:Poor battery life

I would first just go through the Power Option settings

Right-Click, the battery icon, and select power options, then select change plan settings for whatever plan, and then select change advanced power settings.

See if you can find something

I just received my Omen 17" laptop last week!  Really excited.  But, really not liking the poor battery performance, and to exacerbate matters, it's internal.  So, I can't even just swap the battery out for a quick replacement.  My current battery life is approximately 3 hours if fully-charged to 100%.  Help!

Hi, With a gamings laptop and 17" screen, around 3hrs life for a battery is a bonus. Many normal 17" laptops won't even go that frar. Regards.

Hi loz56,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

One thing I did before was to  download a battery monitor
like this one
Watch out for the discharge rate and take note of it.

I then Perform a clean boot, disabling bloatwares that might be running in the background.
Check the discharge rate again and itwas lessen giving more battery life.

Also it is best to set the Power settings to Power saver, less brightness.
setting the maximum processor state to 99% on battery and plugged in  will help as well.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

hey ya'll -- I've been writing a review on the U330 for a couple days now, and keep getting horrible battery life (horrible in the sense that the rated battery life on lenovo's product page is 3-5 hours, and I keep getting 1.5-3 hours -- others in different forums are getting the same results). Are these batteries bad?  Perhaps the rated batter life is incorrect? I have been testing with BatteryEaterPro (which I realize will result in shorter battery times than the lowest rated time), but I've also just done normal usage (power saver mode, intel graphics, 3/10 brightness) and can only get about 3 hours. (feel free to read more of the review at http://www.jrin.net/2008_09_26/lenovo-ideapad-u330-initial-hands-on-review ) anyone else have this issue?

Hi, I've had my HP Envy 15 for abou 1.5 years now, but the battery has never lasted more than 1.5 hours without a charge. This seems awful short for a product that advertises online as 8-9 hours.  I've bought a replacement battery (no change), people always post online that it's related to the brightness settings (mine is set at just about 1/3 bright... ie not bright at all), and I've read about redoing the battery control method in Device Manager.  None of these have had any effect.   There has to be something that can be done to get a laptop to last longer than this.  90 minute battery life doesn't even make it much of a laptop anymore and keeps me constantly locked to a desk.  Any thoughts?  Or any possible batteries that actually work better than this one?

Hey there! So I just picked up my Yoga 3 14 after reading a number of reviews. From what I read people seem to to be clocking up around 7 hours. Since owing the machine I have updated the OS to Windows 10 and installed a few bits and bobs. As I sit here with the screen brightness at 50% Windows tells me that I have 2 hours remaining. Naturally this estimate varies quite a bit but I generally seem to be getting around 3 hours of light use. Running the windows battery health check shows that the battery looks OK so I'm not sure why I seem to be getting less battery life than the revewers, unless Windows 10 is a massive battery hog. Also, I tend to keep the brightness around 50% and the power plan on balanced. Any more Yoga 3 14 owners out there? How does your battery fair?

Answer:Yoga 3 14 i7 poor battery life

It seems that this laptop just doesn't have a very good battery or something is wrong? I've never been able to keep the laptop on for over 45 minutes of use, no matter what I try it seems. And keep in mind I've only had it a few months. Fully charged and simply doing basic web browsing seems to even drain the battery within 45 minutes or so. At first it seems to be fine, and estimates 2.5 hours or so, and slowly goes down, then around 40% it seems to just die and dip to 5% within minutes. Strange thing is it still "estimates 1.25 hours left" with 5%, but the laptop will shut itself down within 1 minute and will not boot again until I plug in AC power? What gives? I've updated to the latest bios last week, video drivers, and the lenovo power management software also.

Answer:g460 Very poor battery life?

Here is a method to recalibrate battery I posted: Post Or set power management to never sleep, never shut down, etc. I just find it easier to let it run down in the bios setup.

Hi all,

Am wondering if anyone would be able to help me with this. I've recently purchased a NB520. Its been less than a month but I am already having problems with my battery. The batt life when it's not plugged in is really weak (1-2 hours at most), and I get a message prompting me to replace my battery. Find this really odd for a machine that's new. Any ideas guys?

I think you should contact with Toshiba service - maybe they'll exchange the battery?

I'm getting less than 4 hours of battery life on my Thinkpad 13, purchased in Nov. '16. (It may even be less thanthat: yesterday I noted a reading that said it was 93% charged, and had 2:50 remaining.) Is there some sort of system check I can run to figure out what the problem is?

Answer:very poor battery life on Thinkpad 13

Here's a little more information. I just charged it fully, and checked the battery indicator: Once it dropped to 99%, it said that meant "5 hours, 11 minutes" of life -- which seems too short. About 5 minutes later, it said 98%, "four hours." One other detail: not sure if this is relevant: The charger gets very hot to the touch when the computer is charging.

Have a w520 with 2720QM, 9 cell battery, 8 gig ram and FHD display. I am getting around 3 maybe 4 hours of battery life with the monitor turned all the way down and Power Manager set to Maximum Battery Life... Anyone have any ideas of why I am not getting hte expected 10+ hours? I am getting this same amount of time when WiFi is disabled and I am just watching movies on VLC. I run a SSD (crucial c300) in the ultrabay and the stock 500gig in the hdd bay. But when doing my "movie battery test" i moved the movie to the ssd so I was not using a spinning HDD and got around the same amount of battery life.

Anyone have any ideas of why I am not getting hte expected 10+ hours?Just a thought.... If you are watching movies or are using an external monitor you likely have the NVidia discrete graphics (and associated cooling) running, which will have at least some effect on battery life. I have your same configuration, but have my battery settings at pretty high performance since I am usually on battery only when I am in meetings.  At full charge, the battery icon tells me I have about 5.5 hours remaining.  Never actually ran it that long to know if it's accurate.  Does your actual run time match your battery gauge? Also use Power Manager to verify that your Full Charge Capacity is somewhere close to your Design Capacity.   Assuming the 520 is new, they should be close, or else you got a dud battery.

are you using the battery in performance mode? This is probably due to the two graphics card been activated, and the Win 7 OS does use more battery power than Vista and Win XP.

I have the same problem with my 15-ba079dx. After a bad customer service I experienced and the weird set up that disallows native admin to make changes to the OS on a desktop, I vowed to never buy an HP again. However, I was lured by a fantastic price on this touchscreen w powerhouse specs for the price after I accidentally killed my beloved Toshiba. Since jump, the battery longevity has been AWFUL. I cannot even watch a full movie; I'm getting 90 min or even less. It made the laptop useless for school, since most classrooms don't have plugs at desks and I wound up carrying a brick all day before even the 1st class finished.

Hello I've had this machine for almost one month now, and I've realized recently that the battery life on my unit is bad, comparing to reviews and charts found on the internet (including users on this site). I've never gotten more than 2.5 hours even on the lowest brightness setting on powersave mode casually browsing on chrome. When I'm on YouTube watching HD vids the most I get is less than two hours.I've ran a battery guage reset a few times now, and it says it's normal. There's about 1% battery wear which leaves me with 54mWh, according to various softwares.I even tried changing the resolution to 1080p as an experiment, and it made no difference whatsoever. Oh, and I also tried disabling Nvidia graphics from the bios, that made no difference either. What should I do? Please help. Edit: It's the i7-4710HQ Model with the 1TB SSHD, if that helps.

I recently bought a T420i laptop a few months ago configured with the i5 processor.  Out of the box it got about 3-4 hours of battery life with no CPU intensive programs running - just normal Internet browsing, music, word processing, etc.   I usually have the display set to 10-13/15.  This was more or less the same amount of battery life I got with my old Macbook, so I didn't think much of it at the time.  But now I'm hearing that it's normal for people to get up to 8, 10 hours of battery life and I was just wondering if I cheaped out too much on my battery or if something's wrong with my computer.  I have the 55+ battery; I'm pretty sure it was the cheapest configuration available.  How can I get these amazing battery life stats?  I'd be willing to buy a new battery, but would prefer to not have anything stick out the back of the computer.   Thanks!

Answer:Poor T420 battery life: 3-4 hours

IIRC, the 55+ is a 6-cell. You should aim for 6 hours on that. The 9-cell sticks out the back and will offer 8-10 hours. There's a 9-cell slice that sticks out the bottom too, that will add 8-10 on top of the 6-cell.As for why you're chewing through the charge so quickly, I'm going to guess that at least one of the following is true:a) You use Chromeb) You use iTunesWhat is your power profile in Power Manager? Go to the Advanced mode and list the CPU setting. I don't suppose you have a discrete graphics card?

Answer:New Y510P with poor battery life (less than 1 hour)

Nvidia SLI does not support optimus so you're always running the Nvidia card whether plugged in or using the battery. Sad to say there's no way for Nvidia SLI and Nvidia Optimus to coexist. Nvidia GPUs are optimized for raw performance rather than efficiency so it's completely reasonable to have 1 hour battery life. If you want to get 4 hours of battery life, you have to remove the ultrabay Nvidia GPU. Then remove the Nvidia drivers. Download Intel HD drivers from Intel download center and install it. Then install the Nvidia drivers after you installed the Intel HD drivers. By then, Nvidia Optimus will work and the Intel HD graphics will be used when running on the battery. You can still play 3D games with Nvidia Optimus since the 750M will be activated when the game requires directx. Note that if you decided to put the 2nd 750M back again while you have the Optimus setup, the Intel GPU will be automatically disabled and you'll be running Nvidia SLI again. Also note that disabling SLI in Nvidia Control panel will not enable Nvidia Optimus. You have to physically remove the 2nd GPU for Optimus to work. Sadly, when it comes to performance, you have to sacrifice efficiency just like automobiles. Hope this helps.

I've got a brand new Elite x2 1011. Battery drains at 3.5% per hour in Sleep mode and .5% when completely off. HP support says batterys are fine, I see the same result with both Powered and Travel Keyboard and with WiFi off, there doesn't seem to be an connection to programs running. There also isn't an option for a Hibernate mode. Unit has been wiped and reloaded twice, once with HP standard reload and one with out. Unit has a ton of other little "ticks" and issues but this one is the most enoying. I have an old ProBook that last tons longer in hibernate mode. Not sure if this is considered normal operation. Any thoughts or things to try would be most appricated. Thanks!

I bought Lenovo Flex 2-14 two weeks ago. My laptop has all the latest specs but I have the following issues with it:The battery life is said to be around 6 hours on the website. However, my laptop only runs for 2 to 3 hours and my maxmium use is watching movies and browsing. I have set the brightness at 80% as below it the display is quite dark. My laptop is new right now and don't want the battery life to worsen after a few months. I hate such a low battery life and don't like to plug my laptop every 2-3 hours. Is there an issue with my battery or can I improve my battery life?I also dislike the reflection on the LED. It is quite irretating and you can always see your reflection on a dark background. Is there any way to counter this?

Answer:Flex 2-14: Poor Battery Life. How can I improve it?

My brand new Flex 2 14 battery barely lasts an hour... on power save. This computer is useless without a decent battery and Lenovo refuses to stand behind it's product. Google it.... this is a design problem and Lenovo put out false specs for battery power.

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 7741z-4433 laptop that I got from walmart. When I first got it, the battery only lasted 1 hour max, and walmart wanted nothing to do with the thing. I have had this thing for 2 years, and now the battery only lasts 15 minutes. What is wrong? Also, I checked ebay and amazon, and nothing comes up for a replacement battery. Acer's website does not even list the laptop as a model. Where can I get a new battery? Also, the laptop fried the OEM charger, so I am using an igo green charger, and that is starting to die.

Ever since I upgraded my SP3 to W10 (Clean install), my battery life has probably been cut in half, the fans are always running high, and I'm constantly running low on memory because the system is hogging more than 95% of it. And all I have running is OneDrive and Edge. Sometimes I leave the computer sleeping for a little more than a day and when I try to turn it back on the battery is drained. I have heard that turning off Windows Tips in the settings solves the problem, but it did not work for me.
Also on Edge, every time I search for something in the address bar it gives me an error. So I have to try 2 or 3 times before it finally gives me the results in bing.
Anyone else having these problems?

Hi everyone,I've recently purchased a new SL500.It is a 6cell battery and I cannot get any more than 2.5-3.25hrs of use.First time usage, I  let the battery discharge till the laptop began to auto shutdown.I upgraded to the new Power Manager and I have Maximum Battery Life as my power plan when using Battery.Battery condition is good. The battery have only gone through 4 cycles so far. I've read on NBR that a user resetted his battery through Power Manager, yet there is no option for mine. The wattage is quite high with 15-25W fluctuating. I am running Vista32 Home Basic, stock Lenovo factory drivers/settings. Most users reported to get at minimum 4-6hrs. Is my battery defective? Any way to test what is causing such a high wattage?

Answer:SL500 new battery - poor life/usage

2.5 - 3.25 hours of "real world" use on a 6-cell battery is excellent for a 15" notebook, 4-6 hours is marketing talk for the best possible scenario that they could come up with.

Hi! A few months ago I bought a Dell E7450. One of the main reasons for choosing this laptop was the battery. According to reviews it should do over 8 hrs of web surfing.
That apparently was far from the truth. The laptop at best does 3-4 hours of moderate use. Probably because of the nvidia 840m GPU. I thought I would be able to manually disable the GPU in BIOS, but there is no option for that.
Is there any way to increase battery life? Would dell support be able to help me in any way?

Using the power saver mode with my Yoga 700, I only have about 4 hours of battery life. Lenovo claims it has up to 7 hours. This is only 57% of the battery life that lenovo advertises. I don't understand how lenovo can advertise this, what additional settings should I be using to get this proclaimed 7 hours of battery life? Very unhappy.

I just get the new HP Spectre X360 recently (earlier this month) and I've been loving it so far except for the battery life. I have been barely getting 5.5~6 hours (which is not even close to the advertised 14 hour battery life) with the battery saver settings while being connected to a stable wifi network and just listening to music and browsing on the web. Is there any way to resolve this issue? I also checked the battery through the HP Assistant program and it seems fine.

Hi I recently bought an Ideapad Y700-14isk. The model is 80NU000WUS. I am having issues with the battery. Since the first day the battery life has been very poor. While using windows 10 power saving settings, and also graphics options set to power save, I am only able to get 1.5-2 hours when running minimal programs and no games. I just use chrome to study but the battery life is incredibly poor. Has anyone else been having issues with the 14" version? I was wondering if the battery is upgradeable to a higher capacity, and where I could possibly buy one from. I understand its a gaming laptop but 2 hours on a full charge while studying power point slides in the chrome browser is just too poor for me. Please let me know if any of you have this issue, and if there is a way to buy a higher capacity battery. Any input helps. Thanks in advance.  I spoke to tech support twice and both times they seemed very clueless. Not helpful at all.

Hi guys, I bought a X201T tablet a bit more than a year ago, but since a BIOS update (Which happened quite a while ago), I haven't been able to hibernate or put my tablet to sleep anymore. When I close the lid, the laptop screen goes black but it keeps running, so once I open it, it immediately turns back on. If I try to manually put it into sleep (Start, Sleep/hibernate), these options are greyed out and I can't select them...Also, since then my battery life has been terrible (approx. 2hours on high performance, max. 3-4hours on low performance) even though the battery is in good condition... Additionally, the option for Intel turbo boost does not appear anymore when selection the high performance I've not had a problem with it not shutting down since the start up is quite fast with SSD and all, but it is still not very practical and would like to find a fix. The shortcut for hibernating (FN+F12) doesn't work anymore either. Not sure if this is enough information for someone to help me but I'd be happy to provide more information if needed and I'd appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks,Thibault

Hi everyone,I am a new lenovo user. Just got my T400 2 weeks ago. I have a 9 cell battery and at best get 5-6 hours max ! When buying it I was impressed by the reviews saying it lasts up to 9-11 hours. Where are my other 5 hours of battery life? When the laptop arrived I just plugged it in and used it generally, the manual doesn't say anything about charging for 8 hours using for the first time and many forums say it is not necessary. Since then I have been using the laptop plugged in most of the time.  What went wrong? Power manager says my usage is most of the time above 20 w, some posts say it is high. please advise. Should I contact lenovo support ?

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 2 14 for school and general purposes. In general I really like it, but I have noticed that the battery life is not like the 9h (or was it 6h?) that were advertised. I am getting around 2,5-3,5h of battery life, while I'm doing some light tasks like surfing the web. I should also note that this is with power saving mode on. Have I gotten a bad battery or is this basically what I can expect with this product?  You can see the specs in this link: http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?e=3019464

My son has a two year T500 that's been working well (running Windows 7 Professional). Over the summer, I ran System Update and updated a bunch of drivers, including the Power Manager. He's now back at school and says he is only getting an hour and a half of battery life, which is much less than he used to get. Is it possible that the new Power Manager did something to reduce the battery life? I guess it's possible that two years of use has taken its toll but it would be a major coincidence.

Answer:T500 battery life poor since installing Lenovo updates

well what is the full model number of the T500? xxxx-xxx?Also under the information tab in Thinkvantage power manager? what is the full charge capacity and what is the design charge capacity for the battery? If he uses the battery everyday, then after 2 years this behaviour would be considered normal.

I just purchased the new Spectre x360 (i5 6200u version, model number d108) and I'm experiencing muddling battery life. I only seem to be managing around 6 hours or so of casual browsing. This is with the screen brightness down to the lowest possible, killing/removing unnecessary programs and barely anything running in the background other than Google Drive. I've seen a review which managed to get 9 hours of browsing and that was on the version running the Broadwell CPUs which are supposedly not quite as efficient as the newest ones. So what's going on here? I know manufacturers exaggerate but half the marketed time with minimal load and lowest brightness doesn't seem right?

I have looked into your issue about your HP Spectre x360 with poor battery life. Battery life will vary depending on numerous factors including product model, configuration, loaded applications, features, use, wireless functionality, and power management settings. The maximum capacity of the battery will naturally decrease with time and usage. Here is a link to a performance troubleshooter with Windows. Biggest thing is the Apps are not closed or stopped. Please let me know how this goes.Thanks.

Hi Guys, I bought a T430 a couple of three months ago, to replace an older HP elitebook. I have really not made the transition yet because the new T430 is very much slower and the battery life worse than the elitebook, which is certainly 7 years old. The speed issue is such that operations are very slow. The machine boots up or comes out of sleep/hibernate without any real issues, but try to open a program (excel, for instance) and it takes ages. One thing I do have on the system is an excel file which I update every few days. Generally speaking, it takes 30 seconds to get the machine to the desktop, then I can go to the bathroom whilst waiting for excel to actually start after I have double clicked the file (it rarely opens in less than a minute). I did have avast AV and I guessed it might have been the problem (it has pop-ups all over the show), so I installed it but things are no different. The problem occurs all the time, a restart doesn't suddenly give me a silky fast moving machine. This has pretty much been the case since I first started the machine. The second issue is the battery. I changed the elitebook batter after about 5 years because it was strugging to do 2 hours. The replacement comfortably did (does) 4 hours, even after a couple of years. The new T430 barely manages 2 hours, I cannot go anywhere without a charger! Any suggestions on what to do? The machine was bought because it has the Lenovo onsite  support so the next step is going ... Read more

Hi, I have an X201 with i5 CPU.  I just got a brand new 4-cell battery.  Like the last one I got, it only lasts for an hour or so. I am using the "Balanced" power setting in Control Panel/Power Options.  Yet I am also noticing that the machine runs hot when not plugged in.  When I originally got this machine, the 4-cell battery was good for at least 2 hours. Is is possible that there is some problem with power management, like maybe some sensor that isn't working properly? Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi Folks, Had a bad T440s that is about to go back. However, under the exact same circumstances and software, the battery on the old machine would last 7 hours.  The battery on the new machine lasts only 2 to 2.5 hours. Anyone else out there experience this problem.? My setup is exactly the same as the previous machine.  The only difference when I ran some software to get statistics is that the battery in the old one was a sony and the battery in the new one is a Sanyo.  The external battery is the same. I've done my checks and there are no issues with the batteries. I've done everything I can. Eliminated processes, services and disabled devices and programs from startup, power profiles.  We are talking a bare work/surf/email machine with very little video usage.  Stlil having the wifi issue too. Lenovo wants to send a tech over or have me ship it to L2 since it is a new machine however I know this will result in a motherboard replacement, (which will result in a new machine anyway which I have asked for) unless the screen has something to do with it.  Other than that surveillance hardware/software tends to draw a lot of power. At this point I need a fully functioning machine hence my reluctance to ship it off and too much life stuff going on to get someone over. Anyone know of another useful battery tool outside of the Battery Eater Pro etc that let's you know where the power is going? I have found a few references on th... I've spent lots of time searching and troubleshooting this issus, but haven't found anything that works yet and am really hoping not to have to send me computer in for repairs since I use it for working from home this month.  I have seen same issue most frequently raised with the Lenovo Yoga-but haven't seen a solution. Issue:  The battery stops charging at 90%.  If I unplug and drain the battery, it will charge back up with the adapter, but only to 90%.  It then reports, 90% plugged in, not charging.  Occassionally when I restart the computer it will say "90% and charging" and the icon will look like its charging, but after about 5 seconds that stops.  This problem started 2 weeks ago.  The energy management is set to maximize (not optimize) battery life. Computer age:  I purchased this computer from Lenovo less than 6 months ago.   List of troubleshooting attempts so far:  1) Turning off computer, detaching power supply, and holding down power button for 30sec before starting,  2) Battery guage reset, 3) changing from maximize to optimize and back to maximize power, 4) downloading latest Power Management Drive from Lenovo 5) using a different power adapter.  Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Hi, I have had my T430 since August of 2012 at the start of college. I am currently running windows 8.1 pro and I recently just noticed my battery life issues and after installing lenovo settings I discovered that my battery's capacity is at 27% of the original capacity. The battery life is really bad, e.g. it says 15 minutes remaining at 25% on POWER SAVER mode.  I have google this and it said to "reset my battery" but unfortunately 8.1 Lenovo power manager doesn't have that feature.  I am just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what to do?  Will I just have to get a new battery?

To all owners of X1 Carbon 2017 (5th gen).I read all of those reviews where people are impressed by 10+ hours of battery life (15,5h advertised), but I can't really figure out how....!? First time I tested was a normal working day - Firefox (a lot of Flash it must be said), Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Nothing really heavy, no peripherals except Bluetooth mouse. Brightness dimmed 1 level below the ideal. It lasted for about 4 hours! I windows's list of apps affecting battery life, Firefox was on 1st place with 32-35% Second attempt - same set of tasks, however less Firefox (no flash) - 7 hours. Now in the middle of a 3rd attempt (using Opera this time) - battery time remaining indication goes over 10h only when I completely stop using the laptop Not many apps running in the background either (Dropbox, Skype...) So my question - do you guys get more than 10h of battery life and HOW? Do you enable "Battery Stretch"? How actively do you use it and for what?

I have a Dell M1530 laptop which has about 5 hours battery life on balance settings. But I really need about 6-8 hours for my work. Many thanks in advance.

I know this is an advertised benefit of Windows 7, but now I can testify first-hand to the better battery life. I bought a laptop with Vista on it, and upgraded it to 7 today. I charged the battery before installing, and unplugged it soon after it started installing.

I haven't plugged it in yet. I have been using it for about 2.5 hours now, and the battery is at 73%.

Granted, it is a very good battery, but if this had been Vista, it would be at about 20% by now.

Windows 7 is a great OS, isn't it?

Answer:Windows 7 and battery life

Hi Jonathan,

I think most Members would agree that Windows 7 wins hands down over Vista. I think that it is true that Vista should have never been marketed, in so many ways it was not ready. Windows 7, is basically Vista under the hood with additional features and benefits that should have been claimed by Vista. Your battery experience, for one, security, aero, driver availablity to mention just a few. Enjoy your new computer, Jonathan, and keep busy on the keyboard, helping us at the Forum.

I have a Acer Aspire V5 laptop. When I was running Win 8.1, the battery life wasn't great, but lasted about 2 1/2 - 3 hours.
Now that I upgraded to Windows 10, the last time I turned it on the battery meter said 52 %. Two minutes later, it was dead.
I just turned it on after charging it, and the meter read 98%, 1 hr 50 min remaining. I haven't touched it yet, and five minutes later the battery's down to 90 %, although it says that there's 3 hr 5 min remaining. When I do any work on it, the battery goes down drastically. Does this have anything to do with Windows 10?

Preface... (and yes, this is one of my infamous "Megaposts" and this one might be in several parts, so, bear with me and get edjumicated...

I found that link about this "new" power configuration diagnostic in Windows 7 and posted it in the other thread, but as it'll get buried in the muck soon enough, and considering just how vital this specific tool could turn out to be in terms of maximizing the potential battery life/run-time of laptops and notebooks (and Tablet PCs too) that will use Windows, I figured this specific topic is very deserving of its own thread, so here it is.

What I'm hoping this thread will be about is related to a diagnostic tool that, until recently, has been relatively unknown (and I admit I just discovered info about it last week myself, so I'm cobbling together a bunch of information from a variety of sources, several being Microsoft and blogs from MSDN folk, and some Windows 7 developers also, and putting it in this one post/thread.

Hopefully there will be some intelligent discussion as time goes by as the more I do research on this the more I realize it could very well be one of the coolest things - and gain one of the most vital aspects - about Windows 7.

So let's get this thing started... who knows, maybe this'll get stickied like some other stuff I've written about... if people deem it valuable, by all means, tell the Admins/Mods and point people to it as needed.

Hello, I have new Lenovo laptop, type T430s (2353-2QV). I was realized to try Windows 8 and reinstalled it using lenovo w8 drivers. But something is wrong with battery life. It is very weak. I was hope that I can use my laptop on battery more than 4 hours, but depens on usage, I can use it maximum for about 3 hours. And that is not right, from my point of view. I do not have informatiom how much time is battery life on W7, but I think it is much better. Please, can anybody  tell me if it is right or not and what I can do with it? I welcome the response not only from users with same type of laptop. Thank you in advance.Peter

Answer:T430s Windows 8 battery life

I, like many others, had Windows 10 installed automatically when I wasn't home. I'm not necessarily opposed to this except that it has OBLITERATED my battery life. As an ultrabook user, I primarily own my Lenovo T431s because it can last me days at a time, or at least one day of heavy usage (8+ hours). However, I noticed that since Windows 10 was introduced my usage time is not nearly the same. Just listening to music will result in 1-2 hours at best, even with dim settings. I have to count the minutes every time I take my laptop off the charger.
I've read that MS is working on optimizing performance, but this is beyond optimization -- something must be actively draining the machine. Any thoughts?

Answer:Windows 10 Destroyed my Battery Life

Hello oobio

Welcome to tenForums!

To investigate your battery usage please have a look at the following tutorial and work through the steps:

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3...dows-10-a.html

Then you should also run the power efficiency report:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5...dows-10-a.html

Looking through these reports will help you identify at what times in the day the battery was drained the most, hopefully you can relate it to what you were doing. You may also find there are a number of settings you can tweak to improve battery performance based on the analysis.

I remember when windows 7 first came out the reports of battery life being less than when running vista. I am wondering with newer drivers being released if the battery life of windows 7 is less than/equal/ or greater than running vista. I've been wanting to upgrade but have found few reasons to upgrade but battery life might make me want to reconsider

Answer:X230 and battery life in Windows 8

Disregard. I realized that my timing samples had been taken shortly after start up and not after doing work for a while. Seems things are as per advertised here. Just need to get the msata drive in and clone it. Did that in the x220t and it was a nice boost to startup and shutdown, and overall system responsivness.

I would like to get a Windows 10 tablet (keyboard optional) with battery life being the highest priority. I currently have a Lenovo ThinkPad 8 on Windows 10. It's a terrific device, but it can only run for about 2-3 hours before a very long charging period.
The iPad is my gold standard tablet, being able to last for weeks on standby. Is there anything in the Windows category that's comparable?

Hi folks, Had a quick search but can't find discussion of this. How are people finding the battery life since the upgrade? I'm finding that it's even worse than it was before - and it's always been pretty terrible. I reckon i'm getting about 3 hours on average.  Does anyone have any tips as to how I can monitor what's using up the battery? Ideally a bit like battery monitor apps on Android. I've also noticed a general performance degredation - Chrome becomes all choppy and slow. Not sure what's going on there but I'm guessing the two things are linked if the CPU is under a heavy load. Cheers Alex

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro battery life under Windows 10

My battery life is about the same as 8.1 (6 to 6.5 hrs). I use a program called BatteryBar that will monitor your usage and gives pretty accurate predictions of when you battery will run down. It doesn't track specific programs however. Also, keep an eye on tasks running in the background using task manager while you think it should be idle. You can minimize the task manager to the icon tray to help with this. I also run the displlay at 2048x1152 resolution (@150% scaling)  which makes apps like chrome scroll a little smoother (perhaps due to less data being displayed). Not sure if that helps battery life or not. There a lots of sites you can google to track down specific issues with battery life.

hi people, I updated my x230 to windows 8 yesterday since the power management tool had been updated too but no matter what I do, I can't seem to get my power consumption to 6-7 watts like I could with windows 7, it won't go below 14-15 watts... so basically I have 5-6 hours of autonomy instead of my beloved 12-13 hours I think it may be because of the metro interface that require constant updates to display fresh content what can I do? did any of you encounter this problem? any idea of solution?

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

Answer:extend battery life after windows 10 upgrade

Bring up the old Power Options and check to see if anything is set to use more power than you'd expect, especially the processor. For best battery life it should be set to slow down when not in use.

Ever since I installed windows 10 on my surface pro 3 the batter life dropped from 5-6 hrs 1 - 2 hrs I did a clean install 3 times but this doesn't help. The tackpad has an issue too. I turned off the allow right click but it doesn't work.t I tried going back to windows 8.1, but they some how block user to download apps from store I always get an error "this app wasn't installed" I tried all possible solutions but no luck. The onenote app for windows 10 sucks too I hate windows 10 :(
Note: I always put on battery saver even on 100% charge.
And the Cortana is disabled too

Answer:Windows 10 sucks my battery life, how can I stop this?

Try taking it to a Microsoft store, fully charged. Turn it on and show them the battery drop. If it's only lasting 1-2 hours, let's use 2 hours as a conservative number, then it's dropping 0.83% per minute. Just run something normal for the tech guy for 5 mins, and show him it's dropping nearly 5%. If they want you to hard reset it - then offer to perform the reset right there in the store (plug into their bar with your adapter). It only takes 30-60 mins to do so. Then show how that does NOT solve the problem.
Then ask for a replacement SP3 (they now come preloaded with Windows 10). Hopefully you have Microsoft Complete. :-)
BTW - my SP3 upgraded to 10 and has been great so far. I can run it nearly all day on battery. I usually have about 40% left after 6 hours.

Hi everyone, I've been doing some "googling" in regards to the battery life when updating to Windows 8.1.  I find that that battery life after updating to Windows 8.1 has been gimped.  However, after restoring back to Windows 8, my battery does just fine. However, after several windows updates in early January, my battery life has declined again and I finally gave up and installed Windows 8.1 again a few days ago.  Again, I get the same result.  60% battery with hardrive saver mode and power saving mode on and I can barely last an hour. Before that (In December) when I ran Windows 8, 60% battery can last me 2.5 hours no problem WITHOUT having to turn on hardrive saver (but I did turn on my performance settings to "Balanced").  I'm just wondering if anyone else having this issue?  I see no one else posting this.As for drivers, as soon as I updated to windows 8.1, I downloaded all the available drivers that were on the Lenovo website and I did my Windows Updates.

I just installed windows 7 on a laptop (around a year and a half old) which with windows vista got around an hour and a half, which was perfect for me (about a lecture's worth of battery), the battery life dropped to about half an hour and the indicator was telling me that there was something wrong with the battery, giving a 'consider replacing the battery' message.

I wonder if it is a genuine problem, or just a software issue (MS deny any problems, but tbh I'm not so sure). I haven't tried anything else, like a linux distro or something, but I wondered if something like that would show up any problems if they existed?

I installed Windows 8 on my Dell XPS M1530 (It's pretty old; about 5 years) and ever since the battery life on this thing has plummeted. It was never amazing, but I have the extended battery and would get at least an hour to two hours of light web usage before it died. Now, it lasts 20 minutes, tops. Why has Windows 8 killed my battery performance?

Answer:Windows 8 KILLED laptop battery life

What did you have installed on the laptop before Windows 8.

Sounds like it may be a driver issue with the battery.

Hi all,Just made the jump to W10 and first thing I noticed is I have double the battery drain during idel. Not good.I've been working through process I can kill/disable and cleared out Skype, Search etc. and it was still a battery killer so now I've killed all of the Intel processes. Is this bad? I don't see any change in performance or heating, but I'm back to the old W8 idle drain of 5000 - 6000 which is 8+ hours of idle with screen at 50%.Is this safe does anybody know? I never killed the Intel stuff under W8.Otherwise I really like W10 but if the battery is this bad and I need those processes for safe running I'll revert to W8.

Hello everybody,
i just wanted to see if anyone else had similar results to this. it seems crazy, i know but my dell mini 10v gets better battery life on full back light.

I even timed it.

Back light full- 6 hrs 27 mins
Back light minimum- 4 hrs 32 mins
i don't know what to think of this, its kinda weird, like my post about how the full blast eye candy win 7 aero theme makes my net book run faster than any other theme.

All input is appreciated!

Hello All, This will be my first post. I bought an L540(with 9-cell) and installed Ubuntu 14.10 so its well supported. The only problem I have is wifi (rectified with usb dongle till better driver is written). Although battery is not a real problem, I'm curios about how many hours windows folks get from their L540(with 9-cell). My current setup with linux is when I pull the plug, I drop the cpu scaling to about 800Mhz-1.6ghz, and it varies base on load from there. I can get about 8-9hrs from this. Again, how much hours are windows folks are getting from their L540(with 9-cell). Extra Info: I also have the i7-4702MQ cpu which would like have factor in the draining.

I have updated my nokia lumia 625 to the latest version of windows. I have now a battery life of only a few hours when I used to charge my phone only every 3 days. I still use my phone the same way and I was wondering what could cause that change... Any help welcome

Answer:post windows update battery life

Updates sometimes trigger battery life issues. Sometimes they can be fixed by something as simple as a reboot or a soft reset (power off + volume down until the phone restarts). Sometimes it takes something more drastic, like a hard reset. If you haven't tried the simple fixes, do those first.

Hi all, A few months ago I installed Windows 8.1 on my T400 (Type 6475) and ever since have experienced abysmal battery life. I have a 9 cell battery in good condition that gave me at least 5 hours of moderate usage when I was running Windows 7 on this machine. Now I'm lucky to get an hour running Windows 8.1 which just isn't really viable. I've checked the battery on my backup T61 running Windows 7 and still achive perfectly acceptable lifespan with that  - so the battery's not the problem. This is my second clean reinstall of Windows 8.1. I've checked all of my drivers are up to date and are Windows 8.1 versions where they exist. My T400 doesn't have switchable graphics so I don't think it's that causing the issue. Bluetooth is off. I've got Power Manager 6.32 installed and working flawlessly. All settings are as they were when I was running Windows 7 (optimised for battery life when off of AC). Before I give up on Windows 8.1 and return to Windows 7 is there anything else I've missed? Is there any way I can check what's using the battery? I'm not a massive tech-head so be gentle if possible... Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are getting a poor battery backup in your Lenovo ThinkPad T400 after upgrading to Windows 8.1.

May I know which power plan you are using in your system?
What Lenovo software dependency package is installed?
Have you updated all the Lenovo resources (firmware, BIOS, drivers, software)?

Refer this document and see if it helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Appreciate if people could start to post their respective battery lifes with basic info on the typical battery life, OS, battery configuration, Power profile and screen brightness they are using.  Like to see if Visa or Windows 7 is working better  Battery Life: 4.5 hoursOS: Windows 7 64 bitBattery Config: 6 cell plus slim 3 cell dvd batteryPower profile: balancedScreen Brightness:  max

Answer:X301 Battery Life Comparison between Vista and Windows 7.

you are getting 4.5 hours from 9 cells? that's terrible. it was for that reason i downgraded to xp. actually your numbers match my experience under vista. i thought it was joke when i first booted up the machine and found the 3 cell battery fully charged but only got 90 minutes from it. i won't even say what i think of lenovo's claim of 'up to 3.45 hours' from the 3 cell battery. anyway, it looks like windows 7 is just as bad as vista. under xp with wireless on, bluetooth off, my numbers look like this for 6 cells: Battery Life: 5 hoursOS: xp proBattery Config: 3 cell main + 3 cell bayPower profile: balancedScreen Brightness: -4 i actually just got the 6 cell battery yesterday after owning the machine for almost a year now. i'll post my results for the full 9 cells later, but my initial experience would lead me to believe it is going to be somewhere near 7.5 hours. Message Edited by redwood01 on 06-12-2009 09:15 AM
