Battery Protection Mode - U410 Battery fluctuates around 60%, keeps charging and discharging.

Question: Battery Protection Mode - U410 Battery fluctuates around 60%, keeps charging and discharging.

Hi, I set my laptop to "Battery protection mode" which is supposed to limit charging to 60%. I noticed that once my laptop is at 60%, it switches to A/C for a few minutes, then it discharges by 1% and then charges again to 60%. This process repeats every few minutes. Is this supposed to happen? I'm worried that each time it discharges and charges again, I am wasting a charge cycle. When I allow it to charge to 100% under "Battery Fully charged mode", it will switch to A/C when fully charged and does not discharge again so I don't think there's an issue with my battery. Thanks for any help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have a question about how the battery protection mode works on lenovo laptops (specifically the z580). I find prolonging the lifespan of the battery to be important, because I want the laptop and its battery to last a long time. As a result, to save charge cycles and increase performance I would prefer to plug in the battery where possible and use battery protection mode. This was a great feature when I discovered it, as it was exactly what I was looking for in a laptop. The only issue I have is that the battery % seems to fluctuate between about 57% and 60% (it charges sometimes, and then stops charging, then charges again.) This concerns me because I am worried that the computer is always drawing power through the battery, and just charges it every once in a while when being used in order to top it off. I was really hoping this feature would make the power supply charge the battery to 60, and then completely bypass the battery after that and draw directly from the wall. Does anyone know how this feature works on a hardware level? Or anywhere I can contact Lenovo to find out? Thanks very much,Ryan

Answer:Battery Protection Mode - Charge Level Fluctuates

In battery protection mode the charge mode is set to 60%. When level of battery reaches to 60%, it stops charching. As its stop charging, the battery comes into use and as i said above the battery would start charging immediatelt when charge is less than 60%. This is the main reason of fluctuation. So you shoudnt worry. But charging the battery is also not good. So my suggetion is that you should let the battery level to 30% and only then charge the battery.

Hi All I have the same problem on my Hp split where the second battery does not charge even after discharging the battery fully and calibrating the battery,  Now all manufactures have issues with hardware failure its callled lifecycle but there comes a point when, we as the customers see the same problem over and over again and wonder if this is not a endemic or epidemic problem. No recall note has been placed on the laptop (HP SPLIT X2) which would pushed towards endemic, ive had two and the same problem has happen twice which is a shame as the laptop is very very good on design looks and function.  But that all goes out the window if there is a endemic problem which has not been addressed by the Manufacture..  My question is simple why is this happening so regularly whats is the failure rate of this laptop and what is the fix if there is one.

I have Purchased this Lenovo 3000 N100 Laptop in 2006, and had the Battery Replaced once within the Warranty Period. Today When I Switched On the Laptop I Found that the Battery Indicator Glows for a Moment When I Connect to AC, and Goes Down Immediately. Though I am able to Power On the Laptop on AC, but if the AC Supply is Removed the Laptop Shuts Down. I Checked that the Battery is at 67%.After Searching in this Forum I Understood that this Issue was Discussed in the Past, and For Which there was this MIGR-69671, that Extended the Battery Warranty for another Six Months and also that this Battery Replacement Program has Ended on October 01, 2008.Can anyone Suggest What can be Done in this Situation! Is there any Know Solution for this Problem from Lenovo?

If your current battery was new in 2007, I suspect it is now dead, and no fault of Lenovo's.

Initially my device was working just fine. Of late though (I don't know exactly when) I've noticed that only the internal battery discharges - then takes me to low power, plug in your charger, without discharging the external battery. I've installed all the latest updates for drivers and BIOS. With the laptop plugged in, the external battery is charging. But when I disconnect the AC it tells me the internal battery is 'in use' and gives me an estimated battery life based only on the single internal battery.

The battery just suddenly stopped working on my laptop again. I've already replaced it once with a battery of the same type before. So right now I have two useless batteries. I don't want to buy another battery just to have it die too. The first one lasted about 14 months and the second about 4 months. Hi all,

I have an Inspiron 1525 that is one year old. Recently the battery will be completely dead when I try to turn on the laptop and will not power on unless I plug it in. The battery meter will be at 0% when it starts up, but recharges normally when plugged in. When I unplug the laptop and close the lid (which puts it into sleep mode) the battery will be completely dead by the next morning even if it was at 100% before I closed it. I don't know why the battery is discharging completely so quickly when the computer isn't even running.

Could this just be a problem with my battery? Or is the laptop not actually sleeping when I close it, but continually using up battery power? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Laptop battery discharging when in sleep mode

Note there's a difference between "Sleep" vs. "Hibernation"
> Sleep mode still requires power (It should be minimal power but definitely still draws some power)
> Hibernation requires zero power

That said, i still wouldn't expect a good battery to discharge overnight on sleep mode so you probably still have an issue with your battery holding a charge

I am facing the below given 2 problems with the battery of a brand new lenovo U41-70 i5 Red model.

1. The plugged in but not charging error. Some suggestions in the web ask the user to remove the battery and change some stuff in the device drivers, but in my model the battery is not removable.

2. The battery dissipates a lot of charge while in complete switched off mode (not in sleep, nor hibernated). I have also disabled the windows fast boot mode from the power options, but doesn't work.
To give an estimate, in approximately 9 hours of shutdown (and the charging removed) the battery dissipates from a full 100 to 70%.

Note: I have updated the laptop which came with Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Hence, the system is running on windows 10 now. The laptop is 10 days old.

Yeasterday day I performed Battery gauge reset. After full discharge of battery my laptop turned off. I was unable to turn on. I removed battery, DVD room etc after doing many things don't know how I was able to turn on the laptop.  From today I am facing another problem. When I switch the Battery mode from Maximum to Optimize or vice versa my Laptop stops charging the battery and Laptop is turning off after discharge of full battery. I do same things after doing these things many time I become able to turn on laptop back. Now again my laptop is not charging battery because I changed the mode. Any Idea how to fix this issue? Is there any easy way to enable charging and disable charging? Like Dell utility? My OS details.: Windows 8.1 Pro

I bought my laptop 7 months ago and it suddenly won't charge. Even when the battery is drained. I thought it might start charging after that from reading the complaints online, and it does, but the light flashes intermittently for a minute or two before dying out. When I turn my laptop on it only has 5 minutes and every time I plug it in to charge, the light either doesn't light up or it flashes for a short while. My mum bought it for me from Hong Kong and the original receipt is lost so I can't take it in to service in NZ even though it has warranty. I really want it fixed fast because I need it to study and exams are coming up right now. Thank you to any help!! Eva

HiThere is a setting in lenovo energy management which limits the battery charge limt to 60% and there after stop charging tilll battery level falls down to around 55%. This is the battery protection mode(In some laptop it is optimize for battery life or similar). Just open energy management and go to battery settings by clicking the icon. So your battery might be fine.Regardd

Hoping this problem will be noticed by more people, the original post on this issue came from:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/T470-Linux-Power-Bridge-wrong-discharge-order/td-p/365...https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/63odjr/t470_battery_order_question_internal_discharges/ Brief description: same problem with OS including Win 10, Ubuntu 16.04, Gentoo etc. The internal battery always gets discharged first regardless its remaining power, which is generally harmless but seems not so good for the internal battery life. With my own T470 machine, updated with the latest 1.29 BIOS, this problem remains. According to searching results online, this little bug came with early versions of X's and T' including T460. PS: this issue had been successfully fixed with T460 via BIOS update 1.26, hoping it would be fixed with T470 sooner or later. Best regards.

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad u410, it is about 2 years old now, and I've been having charging problems. This started last year, where my laptop would be plugged in and down on the battery icon it would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." The battery would deplete completely, and when I try to charge it, the light would just blink. This eventually went away after about a month, I didn't do anything, and I could use my laptop again. However now it's back, at first I thought it was my charger, but I removed my battery and plugged it in and I can use my laptop without the battery. I tried to replace the battery, but it still did not charge. When I plug it in with a battery in the laptop, it will only blink a few times then stop entirely. Do I need to download any battery management drivers? I don't know what the problem is.

Answer:Lenovo ideapad u410 plugged in, not charging, battery depleted

I have my U410 Touch for 10 months now.  It always charged to 100 % but starting a couple days ago it only charged up to 90% and stoppped.  I called Technical support as I am still within warranty, they told me to perform the  the battery gauge, but it did not work.  Then they asked me to reinstall the battery driver and the energy management software but it is still not working not charging to 100%.  They now suggest to me to do one key recovey to reset to the factory setting to see if it works.  If not, they said I can send back the computer for service.  I am not sure if I should do the one key recovery becaue I will loose all my files and etc.  I am skeptical if this will work?  Any suggestion?  Should I just tell them I will send back the computer to Lenovo to fix the problem but then I will not have the computer for at least two weeks. ....

Wrote a month or so ago about a faulty U330 battery.  I replaced it with a new one and am having the same issue--rapid discharge. For example, the battery power goes from 100% to 95% within 3 mintues, from 95% to 73% within 15 minutes.  With the original battery, I noticed that its power could stay at 0% for quite some time before the computer shut down. The battery lasts a decently long time, but the real issue is that I pretty much have spontaneous shutdowns since I can't predict the actual power remaining. Could this be a Win 7 issue and not an issue with the battery's actual capacity? Any other suggestions on how to fix this?

Answer:U330 Battery Issue--New Battery, Still Discharging Fast

Hey Gurbly,

Curious to know is the replacement battery that you bought is it from Lenovo or is it a generic brand battery ?

If this is a Lenovo battery, might I suggest the following link :

http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/Welcome-FAQs-Knowledge-Base/How-can-I-increase-battery-life/ta-p/244800

If the above does not help, could you try the following.

1. Replacement Battery to be drained.
2. Replacement Battery to be fully charge. During this time do not turn on the U330
3. Once fully charge, turn on computer and login to your operating system. Do not launch any application and if possible disable any apps that auto starts.
4. Change the power management to "do not turn off hard drive and monitor" when battery is used
5. Adjust screen brightness to 50%
6. Leave the laptop idle,
7. Check within 3-5 minutes if the battery level drops from 100% to 95%
8. record your finding and reply back.

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

I have a problem with W7. It's installed on a VAIO FE with dual boot (Vista + W7 32 bit). No problem with installation. Works great. Installed with driver pack for Vista from Sony without errors. Although, once in awhile, the battery meter fluctuates all of a sudden, and reads it up or down with changes related to power plan (brightness, ...) . The thing is, it sometimes read the battery critical (eventhough it's not, over 70 % remaining), and hibernates . The only thing I was able to change is the power plan, so it gets asleep instead of hibernate (which is faster to reload). Never happened on AC. Battery seems to be physically ok with good autonomy and no problem like that on Vista.

Any ideas ? Could it be related to battery or ACPI drivers ? Is there something I could rollback in W7 from my vista files (drivers, ...) ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards,

CyberG18
Windows 7, the way Vista should have been !

Answer:Battery meter fluctuates

I've seen this before. It's one of 3 possibilities.
1 - The battery is dying, might need to be replaced.
2 - Another piece of hardware is spiking and possibly overheating. Yes, Windows 7 runs great but it also requires additional resources. More processing, more heat, more power consumption.
3 - Not related to the battery directly but possibly the power supply. The battery is the first place most would think to look at - myself included. I think it's indicative of another fault with hardware. Possibly the sensor via ACPI is faulty and while it's potentially a driver problem, it's better to be safe than sorry.

If you're handy with a volt meter, check the battery. Since it's fine on AC like you said, it's a good place to start. Otherwise, try using Vista drivers for your mobo and especially ACPI.

And don't get electrocuted.

I have a new W520 (a few months old).  I usually work plugged in, but this morning I was on battery for quite a while and the battery drained to 25%.   I put the laptop in "SLEEP" mode and then returned home to continue working plugged in. After several hours, I noticed the battery was still at 25%.  Hovering over the battery charge icon in the system tray, the message said "plugged in, not charging".  I have two AC adapters, so I swapped them out, but still the same issue. I contacted tech support.  The person was extremely nice and remoted into my laptop.  She said the problem is the "charging port" and I need to send/bring the laptop to a warranty repair depot. However, just out of curiousity and suspicion, I decided to first shut down my laptop via "HIBERNATE" (instead of sleep), since that is usually what I do.  After reviving the laptop from hibernate mode, the battery is now charging! So, while I've solved my short-term problem and will get a fully-charged battery, it seems that something about using  SLEEP mode is causing problems with the battery recharge. Has anyone seen this or a similar issue?   To me, the problem doesn't seem to be the charging port because it's working.  Thanks!

I have a HP DV6 7000 laptop. Battery charging only works when lid is closed (sleep mode). If I close the lid and plug in the charger, the indicator light shows orange, and the battery will then proceed to charge to near full. If I open the lid prior to the orange light changing to white, the battery icon always says: __% available (plugged in, not charging). Several different chargers give identical outcomes. ALL of them will fully charge the battery in about two hours; provided that, the lid is kept closed. If I open the lid, even at say 50% charge, the orange light switches to white, and the battery icon always says: __% available (plugged in, not charging). Thanks, Ed.

Hi @ElyMayor   Thank you for your reply. The last thing I can suggest trying is a restore back to factory.  Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7) While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time. Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7) You can also contact HP support for assistance. Everything is brand new, less then 6 months old. My battery will discharge itself while it is plugged in to AC power. The meter on the screen will read 100% charge, then after a few days (while always being plugged in) it will drop to 99%, then a day or two later to 98% and sometimes down to 97%. And if i unplug it and plug it right back in, it will not charge, i will have to leave it unplugged to get it below the charging point (which is i believe is 96-97%) or lower before it will charge back up to 100%. From there it all starts again. Is this normal, is the battery bad, is there something wrong with my charging system. Thanks in advance

Answer:R61 Battery Discharging

The battery discharge itself sometimes when there is a peak power demand from running intensive CPU and GPU intensive task, it is normal and you shouldn't really worry about it.

I usually use my Yoga 2 Pro with AC Adapter plugged in. I turn on Conversation mode in Lenovo Energy Manager and get a message of "Plug in - Not Charging" everytime the battery is already 60% charged. Does it mean that AC electricity will directly serve to run the laptop without going through the batttery like a desktop computer?
I'm worried this habit will ruin my battery lifetime.

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro - Does Plug in - Not Charging on Conversation Mode harm the battery?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Yes, when the charge level reaches 60% and you receive that message it means the battery is no longer receiving a charge and the laptop is being powered by the AC adapter.

No, using conservation mode will actually extend the health of your battery which means the battery will have a longer life time.   It is the continually charging when the battery's charge level reaches 100% level that will shorten the life of the battery.

Can someone help me with this problem? So I just received my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 and the battery is not charging. It says it's "Plugged In, Charging" but it never goes up and stays at 0%. At first I thought I just need to plug it in for several hours but it's been 5 hours now and still the battery stays at 0%. I tried running the BIOS Diagnostics just to see if there are problems and there's none. The battery status says everything is running normally and the Battery State says it's Idle. I tried draining the flea power several times, removing and reattaching the battery, but to no avail. I'm getting really frustrated and I'm really close to throwing this laptop back to Dell.
I read somewhere that I have to update the BIOS but it won't update unless the battery is charged at least 10%. Someone also suggested that Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. I haven't even started using this laptop and it's already giving me a *** ton of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

Hello.  I would be grateful if someone can help me with solving the following battery issue.
My XPS13 9343 (with Windows 10, 2015 model) recently stopped charging when connected.  I have conducted BIOS test, stress test, system test, battery test recommended on Dell forum, but could not find any issues.
Then ran device manager and checked & updated drivers, tested for virus, scanned the system, but could not detect any issues.
Lights on AC adopter is on (static) , and the front light under the touch pad turn on white briefly when connected then turn off immediately when plugged in (when disconnected, orange light comes on).
It seems charging is disabled...I might have touched keys without realizing (I checked whether there were hot key to enable/disable charging, but could not find one).
Since it is an ultrabook, and the battery has no issues, I have not opened the back to take out the battery.
I brew into the connecting hole, but it did not solve the issue.
Please help!

Answer:XPS 9343 (2015) battery not charging - no issues with battery or AC adopter when tested

If the system doesn't detect the AC adapter correctly, the battery won't charge.  That's the first thing to check - F2 at powerup.  If the adapter shows unknown, either it, the DC jack, or the mainboard is bad.  Replace parts in that order.
If the system DOES correctly identify the AC adapter, but the battery won't charge, odds are (particularly given the amber light), the battery is the faulty part.

Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P. It seems like other folks have the same problem in Ideapad series.   When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode). According to Energy Management, battery status is fine.  After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue?  Thanks for your help..!

After that reboot and install it back and see if there is a difference specially on the battery status. Also basing on your statement that the unit is with you for more than a year and you have not encountered any problem except recently it would seem that a battery replacement might be in order. Again before jumping into conclusion check the ac adapter and battery based on the procedure given in your hardware maintenance manual.

Hello

I just purchased a Satellite L775-15q and I want to know the best plan to charge my battery, so it can last as long as possible.
Should I leave the laptop always connected on the charger power cord, no matter if it has full battery or not? Should I always let the battery drop to 10% and then charge it up to 100% and then remove the cord? Or should I do that from time to time and not every day?

Thanks!

Hi,

I think the best that you can do is discharge the battery two-three times a month not everyday.

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500: battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery

Hi, Denkendale ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Do this test -

1) Switch off the laptop.
2) Disconnect power supply. Keep the battery connected.
3) Try to Turn ON the laptop.

If the laptop does not turn ON, the battery is faulty.

Also, Try turning the laptop off, removing the battery, unplug the AC adapter, press and hold the power button for thirty seconds, install the battery back into the laptop but don't connect the power cable and try to start the laptop on battery power.

Update us how it goes.

Hi, I have enabled Battery protection mode from Energy Management and it only charges up to %60 when my G510 laptop is on. But when I turn off the laptop, it continues charging and I find the battery at %100 when I turn it on again later. At my old Samsung laptop, there was a setting for battery protection at BIOS. Hi,I have an IBM T60, my battery works fine. Lost an hour of battery life from when it was first bought, but that's not the issue. When I plug in my charger sometimes (most times), I check the battery thing in the taskbar and it says "Plugged in, not charging". I worked out how to resolve this by taking my battery out, leaving it out, while the laptop is plugged in, and then putting it back in Sometimes I get home from school and the battery is at 20%, I just charge it over night, or think i am, and it doesn't. That's the issue, I don't realise it!  please help. Thankyou.

Oh, and another thing. This happens to my brother aswell (also owns a T60); the laptop would be working fine, until it decides to give us a black screen. Only way out of this is to put it to sleep, and wake it up again. Nothing in particular starts this issue. Thanks

Hello All, I'll try to keep it brief. I recently purchased a B560 system and noticed the Battery Indicator (located on the left side palmrest) is flashing orange constantly. In addition to this, the Windows Battery Icon (on the system tray) is indicating that the battery is not charging at all. I've done some basic troubleshooting: Rebooting the system. Removed the battery, reseated it. Unplugged the system from the power connector etc. and the system still indicates the battery isn't charging. More details:The system was manufactured March 03, 2011 and purchased new from on Bestbuy May, 2011.Windows 7 64bit, recently upgraded to SP1, no other issues to report

I've had my Yoga 13 for a few years now, but it wasn't until last fall or so that I started to get 'Unauthorized Battery' warnings upon start-up from the Energy Management program. This is a bit ludicrous to me, as the Yoga 13's design makes it impossible to switch out the battery on your own (ie. it's the original battery, and not an unauthorized replacement). As a result, my laptop stops charging, which is a concern for me as I am a university student who doesn't always have a power outlet handy. I understand this is a serious bug or issue. The first time (and subsequent times) it happened, I found a similar thread here on the community board which advised numerous fixes which have worked for me in the past whenever my laptop starts displaying the unauthorized battery warnings. Hi, I have a Y50-70 which has a strange problem with the battery: even when entirely switched off (not in sleep or hibernate, but shut down), it loses about 10% per 24 hours on the battery life, until going down to 0%. But the battery capacity seems good - it is reporting about 53 watt hours, when it was only ~55 when it came out of the factory. I'm running Windows 10. Does anybody know what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.

I bought a tecra A3-152 a month ago and i have a serious battery problem.
I checked toshiba's forum and found that M30X had the same problem.

My battery is discharging even when the power adapter is plugged... Quite weird...
It appears when I watch TV on an external USB Box or when I use Photoshop (2 things that use CPU).

Toshiba Power Utility is still on "Full Power, AC plugged" but the percentage of battery is decreasing.

I updated the BIOS to version 1.70 but nothing.

I need my computer at the moment but i think i will soon send it to Toshiba Techies.

Does anyone has the same problem?

Seb

Answer:Tecra A3-152 Battery discharging

Hi Sebastien,

Since your Notebook is so new I would definitely return it under the warranty for the problem to be checked out.

However, It would be interesting to find out if the problem still persists if you remove the Toshiba Power Utility and revert to the standard Microsoft version. This would then give some clue as to the nature of the problem.

Best of luck

I bought a lumia 520 from FLIPKART 3 days ago. The set is discharged within 12 to 14 hours without being any use. Yesterday before, after getting full charged (100%), I shoot a photograph, see a 4 minute video and kept it on table, after few hours I noticed only 10 % percent charge is remain, without any use the charge is finished (Battery saver in on, WiFi is fully off, Bluetooth is off). That means I have to charge my mobile twice or thrice or many more times in a day, when I wish to use it.

Hi, I have a problem with battery on my 1 year old X230 (currently on Windows 8.1). My battery is behaving weird lately. Once it is fully charged, it stays at 100% for let's say 3-4 hours and after that it'll go to zero really quickly. What can I do to fix that? Additionally, my fingerprint sensor just stopped working a few months ago. Just like that. Thinkvantage fingerprint sensor cannot detect it anymore. What can cause that?  Thank you. -enero

Answer:X230 battery not discharging

Hi,unfortunately Lenovo doesn't offer Power Manager application for win8 as well the OS doesn't allow to check out battery settings we need using built-in tools.Perhaps installation of Power Manager for win7 in compatibility mode will show you the battery statistics. I mean a cycle count. This one of the key statistic parameters. What to do? 1. Perform a battery reset. No problem in win7 but even in compatibility mode PM might not allow to do that. But I didn't check.2. As the win8 keeps the battery fully charged all the time, it decreases the battery healthy. Solution is to set the battery charge threshold. Again, it's possible but not in PM under win8. Only 3rd party tools do that. Also there are tons attempts to change the registry settings for that purpose here on forum but I can't confirm a success.Regarding the FPR if you don't see anything unusual in BIOS Setup and Device Manager solution is standard - remove and reinstall FPR sw. If that will not resolve an issue disassemble keyboard and palmrest and check out ribbon cable from FPR and its connect to the systemboard.

Hi Mark1nick, welcome to the forum,

there are several possible causes of this and it's a question which has been asked quite often in the forum. One common reason is when WOL (Wake On Lan) is activated in BIOS.

I've provided links below to a couple of threads with less common solutions I found after a quick search.

I just bought this brand new laptop. I noticed that the battery abnormally discharges at a huge rate. For example if I charged the battery to 100% then shut down windows, and turned the laptop back on a few hours later I would notice that the battery is at 72%. What the hell? I paid almost $1700 for this laptop to experience this huge set back.

My A30 laptop has started randamly discharging the battery whilst the mains power supply is connected. When the battery reaches 0% laptop will switch off. The front Lights show the mains power is connected. Removing the power plug and reconnecting does not solve the problem, only rebooting or hibernating starts the battery charging.

I have removed the Toshiba power management utility and the same problem occurs with Microsoft power utility. I have tried re-installing the latest Toshiba power management still no resolution.

I don't think its a loose power connector because the light shows the power is connected. Has anyone else seen this or is this a sympton of the battery needing replacing (laptop 18 months old)?

My SA30 does exactly the same thing. The AC LED remains lit throughout as does the ON LED but the battery LED will go out. The system will show as running on battery which will progressively discharge (even though the mains LED is still on), and eventually the notebook will hibernate.

By trial and error I have found how to trigger this behaviour. I just need to apply slight pressure to the side of the DC plug in the back of the notebook and all the front LEDs will flash on for a split second and then they all extinguish except the ON and AC LEDs.

I believe that the problem is a momentary loss of contact between the inside of the DC plug and the central pin in the socket on the back of the notebook. This would explain why the problem used to occur when I moved the notebook or the mains cable.

I now anchor the DC cable to the back of the notebook in order to prevent any lateral movement of the DC plug and so far the problem has not recurred even if I pick up and move the notebook around the room.

Wasn't sure whether to post this or not but it's bugging the crap out of me (pardon my french) about 6 month's ago my cmos battery died, the mobo (asrock KS78X) was about 2 months old at the time and i thought it strange for the battery to die, i put it down to the mobo being on the shelf for a while and other contributing factors (shelf storage alone wouldn't kill the battery, surely?), 2 month's after this the battery died again, suspicous i checked the voltage (v.meter) coming out the battery and sure enough it was dead, a little peeved i replaced the battery again and 2 weeks down the line the batery was dead again!!!, i duly replaced the battery (whilst thinkng why i shouldn't go get a replacement mobo!)and it's been fine ever since.i wonder what the problem was (or is) as the battery has been fine since, i've used branded battery's all the time and don't think it's down to bad luck, any clues????

Answer:cmos battery discharging ??????

Bad luck seems to be stretching it a bit, have you changed any hardware? perhaps you had the mobo in 'n out the case at some time causing a small short!I know its not the same but last week I had a pc that every time I plugged a power lead into it, it knocked out the router and took my network down! had to change a brand new PSU!

Greetings, I probably should've posted sooner but may as well. I've owned this Lenovo N200 0689 laptop since early 2008 bought from BIG W, and was supplied with 12 months warranty which had no problem at all during that period.  However, it's been 18 months past now, and about 3 months ago the battery on the laptop suddenly didn't want to power itself.  It comes up on windows that it's 100% or whatever, but when I pull out the AC, it shuts off instantly. Now, I've just left the laptop unused for about 1 month now, and just turned it on again.  Windows says the battery is 70%, and it appears to be charging (ie: flashing green indicator), however it will still shut off the instant AC is removed.  In addition to that, after about 2 hours plugged in there hasn't been a change in battery charge percentage.  (It's been 70% for a while now.)  A bit of googlesearching in the past few months, I've bumped across the N100 battery recall stuff due to failures.  While this is N200, I have reason to believe this laptop could be using the same battery as the N100.  I also feel that the laptop having worked without issues during the warranty period, I find it very disconcerting the problems on the battery would arise, 3 months after being expired from warranty.  In addition, the battery recall stuff only applied to N100 laptops only, and not N200 when the symptoms are exactly the same. I've already read the FAQs on the website,... Answer:N200 Battery not discharging

An update, now the battery is saying 69% left in Windows, and I've kept the laptop on AC.  The laptop battery green LED is still blinking periodically, but it seems as if it's not really charging either now...

I have purchased the aspire vn7-791g  less than 2 months ago, at first the battery seemed fined, it could last for up to 4 hrs. however yesterday after fully charging it it just discharged after just 1 hour. I left the battery to charge all night, and the next day it was still discharging pretty fast (at 100% i had 1hr 10 min remaining) this is the first time i encounter this problem. My laptop is new.  any help?

Answer:battery discharging very fast

Hi elienaoum,

I would let the system run and completely discharge on it's own. Then let it fully charge and see what happens. Another test you could run would be to fully charge it and then leave it in the BIOS to see how long it lasts. This would tell you if it's actually the battery or possibly a battery option.

You can also go into your power settings and make sure that the battery setup is properly configured (you just don't want it to be on Max CPU, Max Brightness, etc...).

If it continues to be short, I'd suggest contacting support as they may need to setup services to get that resolved for you.

Thanks,Cory

Hi, I have got a Thinkpad S440 recently. Before this, I have a U460 which come with a power management tool with option for keeping the battery level < 80% for longer lifespan (I guess everybody know this).  I want to install this in my S440 too, but I cant find this tool in the thinkpad s440, instead there is a power management driver, which after I install nothing different happen? I tried around with the Lenovo Energy Management but nothing really change, my laptop still charge up to 100% (which is 44Wh over the original 45Wh) From checking the forum, I think that a power management tool for s440 certainly exist, but i cant seem to find it. Maybe there is just none for WIndows 8.1 ? Thanks for any helps !

Hi sasman20,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To answer your question first.
(Yes the battery is covered under the Base warranty of 1 Year)
Call Lenovo Technical Hotline for assistance

Also try this step as this helped other with battery problems
1. Turn OFF the Computer and Remove th AC adapter (Leave the battery connected)
2. TURN the computer back ON and start hitting F2 (This will boot the computer into BIOS)
3. Let the computer ON inside the BIOS and let it turn off by itself due to Battery loss of Power.
4.  Now charge the battery again and check.

I have an older SL510 laptop, which has been working very well. But recently the battery power was continuing to diminish until recently, it stopped holding a charge altogether. At this stage, the orange battery indicator started to blink continuously at a rapid rate. I am still able to power up the laptop with my power cord connected. Purchased a new battery to replace the old and assumed light would go to green after charging. Unfortunately, after several hours connected to the charger, the battery light continues its constant orange blinking. Went through the process of uninstalling the ACPI file as noted in another post. Followed these steps:1. Disconnect AC2. Shut down3. Remove battery4. Connect AC5. Startup6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of Microsoft's ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Uninstall (note that it is all right if you only have one).7. Shutdown8. Disconnect AC9. Insert battery10. Connect AC11. Restart your computerAfter completed this process, battery light continues to blink rapidly and battery doesn't seem to want to charge, or provide any indication that battery is inserted in computer. This happens whether I'm using either of the 2-power adapters I have for this laptop. What can I do to get this fixed??? Thank you in advance for any assistence provided!!!

Answer:Ideapad Z-500 - Battery firmware updated but still battery not charging

hi Aledef,

If you have the Lenovo Energy Management installed, can you check the following:

1. For Windows 7:
Ensure that Maximum Battery Life is selected

For Windows 8:
Ensure that Conservation Mode is disabled.

2. Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method under the Device Manager > Battery
   - Link to picture

When finished, reboot the machine and observe if the battery is now charing above 59%. If the problem remains, try charging the battery while the computer (about 30mins) and see if it goes pass the 59% mark.

If the problem persists, I recommend you contact lenovo on how to go about getting a replacement battery.

HP g6-1b60us Notebook PCHere is the situation and symptoms. Battery not charging. Battery icon indicates battery being charged, but it sits at 5%. Have bought a replacement HP battery and that battery will not charge also (it sits at 50%, which I assume is the initial charge it came with). Run the HP Support Assistant and both batteries fail the test saying that cell 4 is bad (cells 1 to 3 have charge, but cell 4 has a 0 reading, even in the new battery). (Is there a problem accessing/charging cell 4?)When the battery is installed and the AC adaptor is unplugged, and the laptop is turned off, the battery charge LED shows a white LED (red/amber indicates that it is charging the battery); now the only time the LED goes out is when the battery is physically removed. Before the problem began, the battery charge LED would be off when the battery was installed and the charger was not being used. Now the battery charge LED goes off only when the battery is physically removed. What I have tried:Cleaned the contacts.Bought a new HP battery.Tried the complete discharge method of turning the laptop off, removing the power cord and battery and holding the power on key for over 30 seconds.Have done safe restarts.Reset to HP recommended settings.Suggestions/recommendations?

I have an old T23. Two months ago it suddenly stopped charging the battery. It seems as an IC problem. Therefore, I decided to buy an external battery charger (ThinkPad Multiple Battery Charger II, P/N: 22P9040), and a new battery, since the old one could drive the T23 for less than, say, 15 minutes. After receiving the charger and a new battery (from two different suppliers in USA), I found a strange problem: the old battery is charging normally, but operates for 15 minutes, or less, and the new one is not charging - the orange light flashes permanently. After that, I decided to buy another new battery, this time from Hong Kong, but the whole story repeated. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I have just replaced my CMOS/BIOS battery today, as , I have faced some critical problem regarding regular BIOS date/time reset after system shutdown. But I want to know how do i recognize, that my new batter is totally ok or functional.

Battery Meter gadget shows that "battery Not charging"
Is it a gadget problem?

Is there any method available so that I can track that my new installed CMOS battery in PC is working fine?

Please help me.

Answer:Battery Meter shows CMOS battery not charging

The battery you have replaced is solely there to maintain the clock and other BIOS settings (if you have changed them from their defaults). It will not prevent you from booting your system if it is dead/missing; all it means is that you will have to enter the BIOS each time and make the correct settings and time. This battery is not rechargeable.

Do you still have to enter the correct time, or is the BIOS maintaining this now you've changed the battery?

I am becoming more and more concerned about my laptop's battery each and every passing day. When I check the bottom right of my computer screen to check if my computer battery is completely charged, it says "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". I have had to buy two new batteries because of the same thing and they also read "0% available (plugged in, not charging)". When I unplug my laptop from the power source, it turns off automatically. I cannot even bother calling Dell to check this issue for me because I bought this computer off the street for $35.

My question in general is how do I get this problem fixed and how do I keep an eye on how my laptop computer charges correctly (or not)???

My new and virtually unsused laptop is discharging its battery at the rate of 10% in 48 hours when switched off and not in hibernation mode. When removing the battery it is loosing 2% in 48 hours.

I have fully charged the battery to 100% and shut down whilst still on charge.

There is no doubt in my mind that the battery is discharging when fitted, and only loosing a small amount of charge when removed from the laptop.

Have any other users experienced the same problem. Result is that in one week the battery will discharge some 35%, which I find unacceptable.

Answer:Satellite L500 19X Battery discharging when not in use

Hi

I think this is nothing wrong buddy
The battery will always s discharge a little bit even though the notebook is not running.

Take a look into the user manual.
I did it and found this:

When you turn off your computer with fully charged batteries, the batteries retain data for the following approximate time periods;

Battery pack 12 cell; 2 days (sleep mode); 20 days (Shut down mode)
Battery pack 6 cell; 1 day (sleep mode); 10 days (shut down mode)
Battery pack 3 cell; 0,5 days (sleep mode); 5 days (shut down mode)

You must always check following software/ bios settings in order to decreased the battery discharging:
- standby/ resume mode, hibernation etc. will reduce the time until the battery is empty dramatically
- always check wether Wake On Lan or Wake on HDMI is enabled
- always check wether USB sleep and charge is enabled

I recently bought an Equium M40X - 149, and i couldnt understand why when the ac adapter is plugged in the battery discharges itself and the computer switches off! So i took it back to the shop and they said it is just the cycle of the battery and i would need to go into the bios to change the settings.
I went into the bios but i couldnt find anything that i could change to stop this!! Can anyone point me in the right direction as it is inconvinient for me to keep taking the battery out when i want to use the laptop!!

thank you
Gemma

Answer:Equium M40X -Battery discharging. Please help!

Hello Gemma

I don?t know if I have understood you right but if the notebook is connected to AC power supply it can not be possible that the unit switches off itself. Not because of power supply. If the unit is connected to AC power supply you can remove the battery and it should work without any problem.

Sorry but I have no explanation for this and in my opinion you should contact Authorized Toshiba service partner in your country. Explain them the problem and thay can check the unit. The warranty is valid and if there is some hardware malfunction the costs will be covered.

Hello, When on battery power, my X260's internal battery is discharging before the external battery. I am using Windows 10 Home and bios is 1.19 (what it came shipped with). I haven't found any definite solution to this problem--only comments from others where the problem went away eventually. I've had the computer for 10 days and have tried many suggestions but nothing is working--the internal battery continues to drain first before the external one. I'm hesitant to call or get support because I don't want to send the computer in or have a tech rip the computer apart for what is apparently a software/firmware issue. Just to add: all drivers are updated and battery performance is perfectly normal--I get the expected run times. It's just the internal battery is draining first and then the external one second. I would appreciate any other suggestions or a fix. Thanks

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite M70 with an battery which discharging from full to empty within 20 minutes.
Is there some program to clean the battery from his "memory" I know that such things exist for normal batterys but is it also possible for laptop batterys?

thanks wendy

Answer:Very fast battery discharging on Satellite M70

Don?t this that would functions?
The M70 is not a new notebook series and I presume your battery is working since a longer period of time.
So it?s not unusual that your battery loses the own performance after a long time of usage.
From my knowledge the after about 500 times of chagrin and discharging the battery starts to lose the own performance.

My battery is 6 year old and I can use it only for 2 min. Then it?s empty.
I know, the replacement would be necessary but my notebook is always connected to the main power and therefore I don?t need a new battery pack.

Well to cut this story here is my final statement; a battery replacement will solve your issue ;)

Hello,

I have a Satellite P850-12Z bought a few months ago (3 or 4).

I have noticed that if the battery is charged 100% and I switch off the computer for a couple of days, when I switch it back on the battery is nearly gone or completely gone if it takes me a while longer to restart it.

It seems quite strange to me because I have not seen something similar in any other computer I have had.

Can somebody tell me if this is normal or what could be the problem?

Thank you.

Answer:Battery discharging even if Satellite P850-12Z is OFF

Hi

This is OK and nothing unusual if some BIOS options are not disabled.
I assume the notebook supports the features like ?Wake Up on Lan? and ?USB Sleep & Charge?.
Both features requires power even if the unit is OFF.
So disable both (in BIOS) and check if it helps to avoid the battery discharging.

I am having problems with my A30-514. Even when the AC power supply is plugged in and the notetop seems to be running of AC power, the battery discharges itself and eventually the power level gets so low that the notebook shuts down.

It seems like the notebook is being controlled by the battery power not the AC power. I am currently using the notebook without the battery inserted - i.e. on AC only and it's absolutely fine.

I am no longer under warranty so please don't just suggest I go to a service partner !

Do I need a new battery ? Or is there a hardware defect ?

Many thanks.

Answer:On-line discharging of battery (A30-514 model)

Hi

Are you really sure that when the machine is running on both AC (DC actually) and the battery is inserted, it discharges the battery?
How can You tell? Do You monitor the power-level in the battery and can see it go down (just like when running on just battery)?
If so, I believe that it will not improve with a new battery. Normally on a Toshiba machine, even if the battery is in any way defective (exclusive pure short-cuircuts) the machine will work fine from the AC Adaptor, charging or just ignoring a defective battery.

This is an IBM Thinkpad I1400 series. The battery would not charge so I replaced it with a new one. It now charges but here are some observations that are suspect to me. Once the battery has been charged to !00% according the Power Meter, I shut down the system, disconnected the A/C power and looked at the Power Meter again. It registers about 98%. Within a 2 or 3 minutes, I shut it down again. After about 2 days, I again power up the system on battery only, check the Power Meter and it registers only 65%. Shouldn't these batteries hold their charge for much longer than this when not in use for just 2 days? Is there something else going on that might be discharging the battery? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My T400 hasnt been charging for quite awhile now. According to my computer there's no AC adapter plugged in at all and it's been running off battery for the last month or two, which obviously isnt exactly correct. Especially since at one point I took my battery out while it was plugged in and it was fine, but wouldnt boot up without the battery in. I got my battery and AC adapter tested at Batteries Plus and they said the battery was good and that the AC adapter's voltage was jumping around a bit, which I found out is supposedly normal? I didnt know that at the time though, so I bought a cheap AC adpater off ebay that was compatible. Didnt fix anything either. So, I'm guessing it's probably the main board or a loose lead to the power cord input. When I plug in the AC adapter the plug at the computer is pretty loose, and may not be all the way in.. I can see a strip of silver where the plug isnt flush with the computer, is that normal? A month or two some water got spilled around the laptop, so there could possibly be some corrosion or something on the leads of the main board. Is there anything I can do to clean it up, if so? Also, will the Mini-dock still work for my laptop if the mainboard isnt charging the battery? Is it worth it to replace the main board on a T400, I'm guessing it'll be pretty expensive? I'm thinking about going to the MSU Computer service center and paying $40 for a quote.. Thanks!

Answer:T400 Battery slowly discharging while plugged in

The strip of silver (assuming you're talking about the metal tube part) is fine, and the wiggle (if not excessive) is normal. The water spill is a bit more dubious though... Might want to take off the keyboard and check for signs of corrosion.

Recently I've been having problems with the battery discharging while plugged in while playing some games (Civilization V and Sniper Elite V2 are the ones I've noticed the most). In the case of Civilization V, it also causes the game to lag to the point of being unplayable. The battery notification when scrolled over says "plugged in, not charging" and does so indefinitely until the computer shuts off from lack of power. It also decreases the battery life to just about an hour and fifteen minutes when discharging like this. Any help would be appreciated with this, because it doesn't seem to happen with every single game I own. Sims 3, Saint's Row the Third, Skyrim, etc. do not suffer from this problem. I've already tried uninstalling the games with this problem and reinstalling them, but that doesn't seem to help. Thanks!

I have the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6825 and turned it on after not using it for about one week. I noticed the battery was listed as 60% full. Is that normal? I thought since I didn't use it, it would be about 95%.

By the way, I am in the USA, but can only see a UK Toshiba Forum. Isn't there a USA Toshiba Forum?

Thanks.

Alice

Answer:Satellite A305-S6825: Battery discharging

I think it is a normal behaviour, that after a certain amount of time, the battery loses a bit of his charge.
Observed this quite a while on my rechargable batteries at home, but not with notebook battery, as I nearly use my rig every day ;)

Don't know if there is an US Toshiba forum, haven't looked for that, I must admit.

Hi,

I hope someone can help me!
I have a Toshiba Satellite A30. It has recently started discharging the battery while it is connected to, and running off, the mains. So the screen icon shows AC power (full power mode) but the % for the battery drops by approx 5% per minute.

The battery light on the laptop is off. If I shut down pc, the light will go orange, to charge. When I reboot, it stays orange for a short time, then goes off again.

Is this a problem with the battery, or the charging lead, or something else? Please help, this is driving me mad, as I keep having to turn it off to recharge it!

Many thanks

Answer:Satellite A30 - battery discharging when connected to mains

In my opinion battery is responsible for this. Satellite A30 is pretty old notebook model so I can imagine the battery is not the best anymore.
Remove the battery and check the battery sticker. There you will find exact part number. using this part number you can order new battery for your Satellite notebook.

Answer:Satellite A100-153: Battery discharging itself very fast

Something similar is happening to my P100-115 laptop. Battery is discharging when unit turned off. I have 80% after 2 days.
