Can install lower version of MS Office ontop of the preloaded MS Office Starter 2010?

Question: Can install lower version of MS Office ontop of the preloaded MS Office Starter 2010?

Hi all. I hope i'm on a correct thread as this is for IdeaPad S serier netbook. Currently on Windows 7 Starter (netbook) that comes preloaded with MS Office Starter 2010. I do have a genuine MS Office 2003 which previous comes with my PC i bought many years ago. I'm wondering can i install it on top of the current MS Office Starter 2010 OR do i need to uninstall the preloaded MS Office Starter 2010 first? What if i would need the MS Office Starter 2010 again next time? I dare not to do it because i worry i will crash all the MS Office apps... Any idea? Thank you...

Preferred Solution: Can install lower version of MS Office ontop of the preloaded MS Office Starter 2010?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can install lower version of MS Office ontop of the preloaded MS Office Starter 2010?

Relating to the old version. Do you have an Office cd or is it a part of a restore cd? If the former you might be in luck, if the latter, probably not. Secondly, you may or may not be able to do what you want. I would uninstall the starter first then install the older. Even this you may be in for a problem. I did a beta of 2010, then installed an older version and it took MS two days over the phone to get things straightened out and they did that by having me restore windows and that only worked for a few months. in the process of this mess I found dozens of forums filled with people with the same problem I was having. For some reason the first newer install leaves something in the registry that - even though the older one installs right - makes the system think it needs to reinstall one of them and it will go through a long process of configuring etc. As to whether you can reinstall the 2010, again you would have to have a separate cd to do so unless you wanted to restore your entire drive and lose all yoiur stuff plus the older office. Others, my wife included on her computer, have had no problem going from one version to the other. One other fact. If youi have an older version and install a 2010 version they can install as separate installs and work together or on ours it gave us the option of uninstalling the older portions of office that came on the new office. (Wife had office pro older version, installed 2010 home/studen whick didn't have a couple of the older and it wanted to only replace the Word, excel etc. of the new lesser version. Now that total confusion has set in ..... :-) Probably you could install the older and retain the newer, but who knows what will happen..

I bought my T530 with Office 2010 Home & Business (32 bit) preloaded. Everything has worked fine until Service Pack 2 came along and this update fails to install. The update seems to be looking for files including "SingleImageWW.msi" which I don't seem to have. Microsoft are of course not interested - it was Lenovo that sold and set up the product. I do not wish to totally reinstall Office as I would lose all my addins and configuration, a nightmare to set all up again. I have tried repair but that asks for other files that don't seem to exist. PLEASE CAN LENOVO OFFER HELP ON THIS! Thanks

I've just upgraded Win7 Home Premium to Win8 Pro on an HP Omni 27-1007ev machine, which had Office Starter 2010 bundled.

I carried out all the HP pre-upgrade recommendations to update HP, Windows and Office Starter before I upgraded to Win8, warning else Starter 2010 would not work in Win8.

Now when I open Starter 2010 it informs me its installed and that I should access it from Start/All Programs/Office Starter, etc. Dialogue also offers 'activate - have key' or 'purchase key' - for full 2010 product.

Obviously I can't use the Start/All Programs option in Win8 - or can I.

Oddly if I open a previously saved Word or Excel document it cranks up Office Starter 2010 with no problems.

Has anyone any idea how I can resolve this.

Thanks, Rob

Answer:Office Starter 2010 - bundled version...

I've not seen more on this but Microsoft won't allow word 10 starter on Windows 8, some boloney about it must be installed by the computer manufacturer and thus microsoft is helpless to do anything about it. In reality Microsoft has decided not to allow it's use with Windows 8 so you will have to go with a purchased office or one of the free Open Office choices (I think they will work in 8. Wordperfect could be a choice as well.

A little cynicial of Microsoft not to provide an alternative to handle all those .docx documents.

Just got a new 64-bit Windows 7 HP Pavilion dv7 pc, preloaded with Office 2010 Starter. But on step 3 of the Office 2010 installation process, it gets hung up at 43%. It gives me error message "There was a problem setting up Microsoft Office Home 2010: There was a problem setting up Microsoft Office. Try running Setup again. If the problem continues, contact Microsoft Product Support." I've googled this and found a registry edit %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming. But the registry already has that value. Anyone know what's wrong?

I've got a Samsung notebook running Win7 HP x64. Office 2010 came preloaded on it. When you click on it it present the options to buy or enter a key for the full prog, or to use Starter for free.

Starter will not install. It goes through all the motions and then errors out after several minutes.

Neither will it uninstall. MS Office 2010 Click to Run is listed in Programs and Features, but the uninstall operation "cannot be completed".

So I'm stuck. I even tried Revo uninstaller, to no avail. I would appreciate any leads on this. I've checked several forums, and haven't come up with a solution yet.

I've got a couple of laptops running Win 7 Home Premium. They also have a brain damaged version of Office 2010 installed, Office 2010 Starter... but, the software is fine for my needs.

I want to upgrade these laptops to Win 7 Pro in order to be able to join them to a domain. But, legitimate Win 7 installs are getting hard to find. Those that I have found do a clean install only.

Is there a way to save my Office Starter software such that I can restore it after the clean install?

My Dell Inspiron came with Microsoft Office Starter 2010. It has only Word and Excel. I have an Office 2007 Ultimate disk which has all the goodies. Can I install 2007 over Starter 2010, or should I remove Starter 2010 (if that's possible) first? Thanks.

Remove and then install 2007. Otherwise, 2k10 takes precedent over older versions.

I take it if Office starter is already preloaded then I do not even have to use the DVD, instead I can just punch in the product key# that comes with the DVD?

Dunno. Give it a shot. If it doesn't work, you can just uninstall the Starter Edition and install your purchased version of Office.

I haven't come across any new info on this, but it seems as though the TechNet version of Office 2010 Pro doesn't allow you to do an admin/network install. The OCT is missing. Am I correct in saying there's no way to download this separately and add it in?

I would not think so. Technet is licensed per only one person is allowed to use it with their own personal keys.

I have a HP Laptop , running windows 7 home premium

i'm trying to install office 2010 (student teachers version)
The program on installation has found groove already on the PC and wont install until removed

Looking at the PC - it already had office pro 2010 which was installed in feb2014,but is not able to run or seen on any of the shortcuts / programs

However, they where unable to find the CD or the Key for a repair , and so asked me to install a new version, which they had purchased,
I since discovered that the laptop had a virus and was sent off to be professional virus removed at a local shop. I do a bit of work for this shop anyway.

I went to see what I could do with the existing office 2010 and it is corrupt and would not uninstall

So i run revo uninstaller - after it had found 36,000 registry entries and was still counting I cancelled the process , as I wanted to create some recovery DVDs before proceeding

When I run the recovery media creater for HP - it asks me to select the media type - but there is no media listed to choose

The DVD works and plays videos OK
And I also ran windows DVD maker and it recognises the DVD

SO questions

How do i uninstall the old office 2010
will allowing revo to delete all the registry entries cause some issues

and why cannot I see the DVD from HP media creator - which crashes now
Also getting norton security errors "8504,104"- which indicate corrupt install
So probably will take back to the shop now - BUT... Read more

Hi my desk top came with MS Office Starter 2010. I want to load the Office Home Student to the PC.
Will Starter remain or be over written.
Would it be best to delete Starter 2010 before loading Home Student.
I have been unable to find a answer on Google to give a straight answer.
Is there any way of testing the office 2010 soft ware prior to loading or after loading to see if its genuine.
I paid top price but its just that I would like to make sure and do some thing about it if not.

Answer:Replacing Office Starter 2010, with Student Home 2010

Don't user it myself, but ....
Starter will probably be over-written, in any case what does it matter, you can always delete Starter after installing Student if necessary - I am sure that the Software itself will tell you during Installation.

Answer:Which trial version of Microsoft office comes preloaded on T440S? and how do I safely uninstall?

Hi Jwooden,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are willing to uninstall the MS-Office application and wanted to know that which all pre-loaded application will comes with ThinkPad T440s.
To uninstall the MS-Office application you have open Control panel and go to program & feature option and check for all the MS-Office application and click on uninstall, use any 3rd party registry cleaner after uninstalling.
Please click here to view the Platform Specification for ThinkPad T440s; the specifications may vary upon the MTM numbers.
Note: Before doing any changes in your system I suggest you to create the recovery media of your system.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I went to install Office 2007 Home and Student on my new win7 pro 64bit machine and it stalled almost 4/5 of the way through, giving me an error.

Checked error code, and it seems (I think) I need to uninstall the 2010 starter version on my machine before I can install another version (couldn't they have told me that at the beginning of the install). Instead of doing that I decided to activate and try the free, starter version.

Have I opened a can of worms? Can I update the starter version (with security updates, etc.) without being forced nto upgrading it to a pay version? ?

Probably what I should do - is uninstall it, and go back and install my 2007 version.

Answer:Office 2010 Starter, questions?

Yes, Starter can be updated & I think even upgraded later as I'm sure I read it has the full Office code built in but don't quote me on that.

Office Starter 2010 is free on new computers & is ad-supported.

It only contains Word & Excel with a few features stripped out from the full version like Home & Student.

Microsoft have probably referred you back to Dell as it would be already installed on your new Computer. In the abscence of any backup or install discs I would try a "system restore" (NOT a factory restore) if you have any restore points and it has just recently occurred.

I'm a little disturbed by an oddity on a Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit machine, and I am hoping that y'all can clue me.

Background: My wife needed some work forms printed that were sent to her as .pub files. OpenOffice couldn't touch them, so I activated the MS Office Starter 2010 on this machine (I'm assuming it comes bundled with all Win 7 distros). Well, Starter 2010 couldn't handle the .pubs either - I wound up having to use an online converter. No problem.

Later, however, I noticed a new 'drive' addition in Windows Explorer (see thumbnail #1). It's a protected item - when I click on it, I get the following: 'Location is not available', 'Q:\ is not accessible', and 'Access is denied' (see thumbnail #2).

So, I pulled up Control Panel > Programs and Features, clicked on 'Microsoft Office Click-to-Run 2010', and I get the warning specified in thumbnail #3.

I've just begun Googling for this - so far, I've only found the basic info on Starter 2010 (that it's the replacement for MS Works, that it's limited in functionality, yada-yada).
It's not causing any problems at all, but I'm a Major Geek, and I hate seeing weird drives listed that I can't touch. Is this anything to be concerned about? If I do decide to get rid of the thing, will I lose any future rights as far as cranking up Starter again?

Any insights and suggestions will be appr... Read more

Office 2010 Starter is obsolete and has been replaced by Office WebApps. See here for details:

The limitation is that you have to store your files in your OneDrive and edit in a Web Browser.

I copied the whole folder which included 4 files one of which was "Excel MUI" and is described as a windows installer package. Thinking this would install the excel program it did not! I receive the following msg: "error 1713 cannot install one of the required products". Can someone help me get this program copied from my laptop to my desktop. This is a legal process as it was on both of my systems until I lost my drive on the desktop. Thanks very much.

Answer:Office 2010 starter missing

According to the original system configuration section for that Dell Inspiron One 2305 all-in-one desktop, it came with Microsoft Office 2010 Starter with limited functionality.

Unless you used a recovery media disc kit that's specifically for that Dell, all the programs and extras that came pre-installed in it no longer exist.

Microsoft website says "All of your personal files will be deleted and your settings will be reset. Any apps the came with your PC will be reinstalled, but all other apps will be removed" if I reset. As per the above statement Windows should have installed Office Starter since it was an app given by OEM.

Sounds as though you need to do a factory reset to Windows 7 to get the bundled software back, then upgrade to Windows 8.

I am here now because I was floundering in cyber space and brought here by Hermes , I guess, because he knew that last June, 2008, another mortal had the same problem but no solution..........see attached file

Background info by way of introduction...I am the sys administrator:

which I failed to get to work so I've managed with WORKS meanwhile, & a grudge.
....the problem of having been the one in control of my own PC for about 20 years

This week I bought Home/Student Office 2007 in the hope of getting to the point I was at over a decade ago : being a happy MS s/w user.
Then my problems began.

The installation started and almost instantly took a dive and said it had failed.
I checked the disk on an old PC and it is fine.

I assumed the pre-installed version could be the problem and tried to uninstall, unsuccessfully ...tried turning off (& restoring) user a/c ctrl in case that would help but no.

Bottom line is that there are still over 200mb of s/w which I cannot remove or use and a legal CD that cannot replace the existing version.

I use my PC almost non stop for all manner of things so regard it as a workhorse (now I no longer have to be a system administrator for scientists like myself)

I realise if I had actually NEEDED Word when I got the PC & persevered I would not now be looking for a solution and understand... Read more

I lost my Microsoft Office Starter 2010 when I ran the Open System Restore on my Acer Aspire One D257. As well as Office Starter 2010, I have searched for the Acer Apps from the desktop list that was provided after it finished, such as Acer Crystal Eye Webcam.  I did find Acer eRecovery Management, but didn't download it because there didn't seem to be an Acer source. I have an Acer Aspire One 725-C62kk which came with Microsoft Office Starter 2010, which I have been very happy with for the last few years.  After I (foolishly?) downloaded Windows 10, Office Starter was on the list of apps to re-load but without a live link.  Can I re-load Office Starter 2010 from your web site?  I have all the serial numbers, product key, etc from the back of my computer, if you need them.  Thank you for your help.

Office Starter 2010 (Word and Excel only) were pre-loaded when I purchased my laptop several years ago.    I have upgraded to Windows 10 and Word and Excel were working perfectly since the change of OS. Recently I have been unable to open Word and Excel documennts attached to emails. I read I could get over this problem by uninstalling and reinstalling Office Starter 2010. I have deleted Office Starter 2010 and would like to reinstall it. Under the old OS, I could go to Office 2010 and clicked Use Office Starter 2010/Run to reinstall. How do I do this now?   Many thanks.

What do you mean can't access Microsoft items. Do you get an error? If so, what is it?
Also, what items are you trying to access.

Just before I return this piece of sss... to the shop, I'd like to ask you for help. I've recently bought TOSHIBA Satellite C660-1N1. I got an MS OFFICE STARTER.. (Oh, how nice, I thought).

After installing the software from hdd, I've been trying hard to use the thing for a couple of days. Due to some problems, I decided to uninstall it with an idea to install or re-install it once again.
BUT I HAVE NO IDEA where the setup file is located. Maybe the recovery particion?

Question 1: Is it possible that installation files for MS Office starter are stored there?
Question 2: How on earth do I enter / start / open this recovery particion??

Please help, I'm really desperate..

Thx in advance.

Answer:Satellite C660-1N1 - MS OFFICE 2010 starter GONE

> Question 1: Is it possible that installation files for MS Office starter are stored there?

No. You cannot install separately because the MS Office starter pack was a part of the Toshiba image. The image is a package which contains Windows OS, Toshiba tool, drivers and 3rd party software like WinDVD, Office, etc?
So if you want to get this back, you have to install the Toshiba image once again or you would set the OS back to the point before the MS Office has been uninstalled.

> Question 2: How on earth do I enter / start / open this recovery particion??
Check this:

I recommend also checking the preinstalled user manual.
There you will find some infos regarding the Toshiba Recovery and how to create a recover disk which is very important in case something would go wrong with the HDD

So I am trying to do the upgrade as I have had some issues with my desktop for a while. Simply will not open Malwarebytes except in safe mode. Other programs wouldn't open either. So I began mainly using my laptop. Needless to say I now HAVE to use my desktop for a few days and decided to upgrade to WIN 10 (I have it on laptop and its fine). I have tried dozens of times to upgrade only to keep encountering an error that Microsoft Office Starter 2010 needs to be uninstalled...but it is NO WHERE on my computer that I can find. I have tried uninstalling everything that has to do with Office (including 2016 version). No clcik-to-run items listed in program files. Did a search of C drive and came across two items marked Microsoft office starter 2010. Deleted them (no option to uninstall). Restarted. Searched the same way...nothing. Try upgrade. Failed again! Same error message. About to toss this old beast out the window...suggestions??

Hi @bikerinva?,  Microsoft Office Starter 2010, was it a preinstalled application or Have you purchased the License copy of it. if it was preinstalled, chances are it might be the Trial version. And you may download the same from Internet. If it was Licensed, you may go to below link and download the same.  I hope that answers your question.  I am an HP employee, the opinions expressed here are my personal opinions, not of HP. Make it easier for other people to find solutions, by marking my answer ?Accept as Solution? if it solves your problem. ***Click on "Thumbs up" button to the left side of my post to acknowledge the post ***

Hi,I have recently bought a new laptop computer after my desktop died, too much work!! The new one came with MS Office 2010 starter pre-installed. However, I already have and have already used, on the old computer, MS Office Professional 2010 which I need for work.So far, I have uninstalled the starter version and I installed my copy of MS Office Professional 2010 on it with the relevant serial. To this point everything seemed to be going well. I transferred over the documents from the external HDD to their own folder and also this went well. NOW the problem starts when I try to open a word or Excel file. If I double click to open one of these files, instead of the file opening a Window opens up saying that the MS Office product is not installed and gives these three possible options:1, "I have already purchased Office 2010 - ACTIVATE";2, "Go online to purchase Office 2010 - GO ONLINE" or3, "Use Office Starter 2010 - USE"If I first open the adapt Office program and choose "OPEN" from the menu and open the file that way it opens OK.What can I do? It's a bit of a pain having to open the Office program first and then the file instead of just double clicking it.I have all the latest updates for Windows 7 and MS Office Professional 2010 (this updated shortly after installing) If it's of any use I have these programs in the Installed Programs:1. Answer:I want to uninstall and remove Office Starter 2010 but

The only thing I can think of is your Pro Office 2010 did not install correctly and their might be part of the old office still on your computer. If it was my computer I would uninstall both offices again using Revo, a free program. Then I would check using another free program called Search Everything to make sure all was gone. Then install you Office 2010 again. Before doing this I recommend waiting for others to reply to your post. Their might be a easier way to fix you problem that I'm not aware of.

Microsoft Word 2010 Language ToolsThese advanced language tools are extremely useful, and with them you can extend the power of Word.If you have text that you want to change to a foreign language, this can be done in three ways using the Translate tool. Choose between Translate Document, Translate Selected Text (where you must first highlight some text to be translated) and Mini Translator. The translation occurs online, and languages can be set in Translate > Choose Translation Language. It doesn?t take long for the translation to be returned, and this is a better option that going to the trouble of opening a browser, finding a translation service, pasting the text in and waiting for the results. Finally, you can alter the dictionary language of your Word document via the Language tool. In Set Proofing Language you can choose a language as your dictionary language either for the current document or by clicking the Set As Default button you can select a default language for all documents!

HP Pavilion g6  LM837AV,   Windows 7,   IE8OEM means it was installed at HP before shipping to me. All of the suggested changes/repairs/fixes/system restores etc, yaddah yaddah don't work.  I've been all over the MS sites. MS Office 2010 Starter just will not open anymore, period. I shouldn't have to go back to the out-of-box system state. MS and HP are well aware of this problem. The solution SEEMS to be to BUY MS Office and install it. Tell me I am wrong and give me a solution, please.

Answer:How do I get back Microsoft Office 2010 Starter? It's OEM so...

Hi: Sometimes you don't want to be told you are right...but right you are. And, Office 2010 Starter is not on the recovery partition, or recovery disks, and as you found out, it is no longer available for download from Microsoft. It had been for a short period, but no longer. So, at least I saved you from doing an unnecessary (and fruitless) system recovery. For whatever reason, that ad supported software is only installed once on the C:\ drive, and that is it. I don't get it any more than you do. Paul

Just bought a new HP PC and it came with Office 2010 Starter Edition. Haven't actually used it yet, though.

I've been looking around to find out what the "upgrade" prices are to turn this into Office 2010 Home and Student -- and apparently, there aren't any.

If I understand it, the following is now the case:
1) Office 2010 Starter Edition is FREE
2) There is no "upgrade" price for other editions
3) Upgrading other editions involves paying the standard full-retail prices.

Have I got it right? Or have I missed something?

Answer:Upgrading Office 2010 Starter Edition

I don't recall there ever being upgrade versions of Office to go from one package to another. The only upgrades were to go from an older, previous version to another. That would make absolutely no business sense to offer a cheaper upgrade from a free product than the standard full version.

If you don't need any of the premium features, why not just use Office Live?

I have windows 7 and I just tried to open a document in Microsoft Word Starter and got the message (attached) Microsoft Word Starter 2010 cannot be opened. Try again or repair the product in the Control Panel. I went to the control panel and uninstalled word starter but I don't know what to do now. Can anyone please help me?

Thank you

Answer:Microsoft Office Starter 2010 Won't Open

Hi jmrpjb,

Please double-check if the program that you uninstalled is 'Word Starter 2010' or 'Office Starter 2010'? Please share the exact steps that you performed to uninstall it.

You may also try the following steps to repair the 'Office Starter' in the mean while:
- Click 'Control Panel' > 'Programs' > 'Programs and Features' > Locate 'Microsoft Office Starter - English' > 'Right click' it and select 'Change' > Select 'Repair' > Follow through with the repair process

- If the issue persists, you may also try to uninstall 'Click to run' and configure 'Office Starter' again: "Cannot be opened" error when you start an Office Starter 2010 program.

'Office Starter 2010' is a 'factory installed' program that may not be re-installed. If any vital file has been accidentally deleted; or the program could not be repaired by the above mentioned steps, you may have to try to restore the system settings back to 'factory defaults'.

You may want to have a close look at the following article also:

Hope this helps. Please share the findings; will take it forward.

Upon starting a new document, I entered the margins prior to typing. I entered the Title of the document and centered it horizontally 1.0" from top. I do my work using Print Layout and when I did this particular one, the title is at the top edge with no space even though the top margin is set at 1.0". Then when I viewed it by going to the Print mode, the margin is 2.0", and the bar at the bottom shows the amount of the "line" at 1.5". So I've got all these different top margins and the one I formatted my document with doesn't even show up in any view. White space is checked, I have no columns and rows setup, I deleted the title and typed it again and it still shows the different margins. I have spent over 1.5 hours today looking for the problem and doing research online. You're my last hope. Can you help me so that I'll know what to do when it happens again? Thank you

I recently performed a recovery operation on my HP Allin In One Pc 320 1010a to enable some components of the PC to be able to function. In doing this I lost the use of several programs including my Microsoft Officer Starter Pack 2010 which is very important to me considering I am the secretary of our local social club and responsible for typing up all the minutes, sending out correspondence and creating notices for our public notice boards. I have downloaded a free copy of this software but when installing it I get the error message "you must remove Microsoft Office Starter Pack and then install it again." I have tried to remove it using windows 7 uninstaller but it will not/cannot remove it so I try to install the replacement software but once again get the same error messaghe and the same result when trying to uninstall the software. So around and around I go HEHEHE. When I look at the programs list I find the software has a folder title but no contents in that folder. Is that why I can't remove it.

I'd be ever so thankful for any assistance anyone can provide me and I'd be over the moon if I can get Microsoft Office operating again.

Thanks for your assistance

What is the right way to proceed in order to get Office on this machine again?

On a different computer, I had a trial version of Office 365 installed. I purchased Office 2016 and uninstalled the trial 365 and installed Office 2016. However, Office 365 "remnants" mingled in with the Office 2016 installation and it was a mess getting it straightened out. Perhaps some profile type files, registry entries and who knows what else remain after the uninstall and found their way into the new installation.

Is there a way to absolutely remove everything associated with Office 2010 before I install Office 365.

As I shut my machine down last night Windows informed me it was doing 15 updates, which I allowed it to do.

This morning, the machint took a little extra time to boot up, I guess because it was finalising configurations.

Now I see all my icons for Word/ Excel in the folders and on Desktop have turned orange. When I click on a Word/ Excel Icon I get a dialogue box promting me to Activate an already purchased copu of Office 2010, Go online to purchase, or Try Office free for a limited time.

I have tried a Repair on Office 2010 Starter, but that has made no difference.

I am, however, able to open the documents by opening the application (Word/ Excel) and searching for the documents via the application's Open dialogue box.

Does anybody know what I need to do to fix this?

Answer:Last night's Windows auto update has crippled Office 2010 Starter!

It may be a case of uninstalling the relevant update/s. There have been some known issues with the latest round of updates with Office 2007 and 2013 as far as I'm aware. Mine updated this morning before I came to work so I'll check and see if mine has been affected tonight when I get home.

Having searched many sites and the internet generally to find an answer to my problem the main answer is to go to the manufacturer of the PC as they installed Microsoft Office Starter 2010 programme.  The problem is as follows:everytime  I finish a Word document in Office 2010 Starter and print off and go to click of/out by Xing top right corner I get a light blue screen which hangs.  By a series of clicking the X and the blue screen I get the message 'WinwordC.exe not working'.  It eventually clears but originally the page cleared instantly. I've tried the 'repair' via the control panel way without success, and re-installed the programme. What is the cause and how does one resolve the problem? Can anybody help please.

We are wanting to up-grade our current Office suite Office 2003 to either Office 2010 or Office 2013.  Our PC's are running Windows 7
I would just like to know what peoples opinions and advice is on this?

Answer:Up-grade from Office 2003 to Office 2010 or Office 2013

I can't speak to Office 2013, but I've done numerous upgrades to Office through 2010.  When you install the new version, you have the option to keep the old version or just replace it.  Starting with Office 2007 the familiar menu bar has been replaced with the ribbons which take a lot of getting used to for folks used to older versions.  There's a little program called UbitMenu that will add most of the menu bar functions back in the 2007 and 2010 versions that a lot of folks find helpful.  If you do opt to have two different versions installed at the same time, what happens is that when you switch from one to the other, it goes through a juggling act that takes a minute or so.  It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it, it could be a convenience.
Good luck.

Hello - I own multi-user version of Microsoft Office 2007 Pro and in May 2012 purchased a new ASUS A54C-TS91 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and Office 2010 Starter Edition. I need Powerpoint and Outlook in addition to Excel and WORD. I tried to install the entire app. assuming certain "limited" components of 2010 would be overwritten with the "better"/more robust 2007 - however, while it appears Office 2007 Pro loaded properly and is shown in Control Panel with proper date as installed, there is no file size listed...... I have read several similar posts but wanted to provide specific details for my situation. Anyone have a similar issue - what is best solution? (i am a newbie to the group, so hope I didn't make a faux pas in relating my story). Any guidance is welcomed and appreciated. Minky

I have used Open Office for years with no problems. It's easy to save as a Word document. I bought a new new computer wrote several items, saved in OO. This computer doesn't have Word installed so I installed Office Start (not knowing the difference). Now every OO document on my desktop is taken over by Word - literally with a big W. I can't open it unless I agree to a long list of rules, including personalized ads, which I don't want.

I'm not very computer savvy and don't know if I should uninstall Office Starter.

Please advise.

How do I identify a perpetual retail version of MS Office 10

About 6 months ago I purchased a 3 user boxed pack from a reputable supplier here in OZ.
- the product code is on the inside front cover of the plastic "box"

Now I cannot remember where I bought it, nor can I find the sales receipt.

Is there any way of identifying perpetual version from the "Product sticker" ?

Thank you ?

Answer:Perpetual version of MS Office 2010 ?

I bought a 3 license pack of Office 2010 Home and Student a year or so ago.

This was SKU 79G-02144.

The disk itself has exactly one number on it:

You use the terms "product code" and "product sticker".

Neither of those terms appears on my disc.

There are several variations of "Office 2010". You don't say which you bought.

I've been using Office 2010 Pro since last year with issue whatsoever, however I'm curious about issues the 64-bit version might have.

So are there any issues (performance or otherwise) that anyone has had or is having with the 64-bit version?

BTW I just realized my Academic download DOES have the 64-bit installer included. Silly me I just called Digital River asking about a 64-bit download link and when they sent me the same link I argued..... and got egg on my face because I hadn't realized I had the 64-bit installer all this time

Anyways I now want to try the 64-bit version but need to know of issues.

Again, thanks.

My daughter has Office Starter on her laptop. I have purchased Office Pro. Should I unistall Office Starter before I install Office Pro or is it ok to install it over the top of Starter?

Answer:Office Starter. Should I unistall before installing Office Pro?

Removing the original first is the best way. Without removing the original installation you may get problems later on.
I'd recommend uninstalling Starter first. Then you just install your paid version as though you've never had office before; less chance of it freaking out at a previous install.

Hello SF gurus and members

I just want to know which office 2010 is the best to install on my Windows 7 PRO 64bit,

do you recommend 32bit version or 64bit version of MS Office 2010.
what is the difference of it?
any inputs is highly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Which is recommended MS Office 2010 32bit or 64bit version?

I've been using the 32bit version for over a year now with no issues. I guess that if you are using very large spreadsheets or presentation then 64bit is the way to go and it is the future of course.

I downloaded and ran the trial version of Office 2010 Professional Academic version. After a few days I decided to activate it and entered the 25-character product key which accompanied a purchased CD version of the program. When I go into any of the programs (Excel, Word, etc) and check to see if Office 2010 is authenticated (File > Help) I see displayed "Trial Product" and it says my trial period will expire in 26 days. Below that it reads "Product Activated." In other words, according to the almighty wisdom and omniscience of Microsoft I have BOTH an unactivated trial version and an authenticated version of their product. I would have thought that once I activated the product it would no longer say I have a trial version. Should the "Trial Product" bit still show there? If not how do I get rid of it? Thanks in advance for any comments, advice, etc.

Answer:Office 2010 says I have both an activated version AND a trial product

Uninstall both 2010 versions > then re-install your paid version.

You could use the Programs and Features application. Do you see both versions there ?
If yes, uninstall both.

Here is a special application designed specifically for uninstalling MS Office of different years.
Scroll down to Office 2010 Suites, and click the FixIt button to uninstall.
How do I uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if I cannot uninstall it from Control Panel?
