U450P Broken hinge 3 months old Warranty won't cover

Question: U450P Broken hinge 3 months old Warranty won't cover

Hi. After looking over some of the post, it looks like hinges are a problem for Lenovo. My U450P is less than 4 months old and the hinge popped as I was trying to close it one evening last week. (No I didn't drop it and have only taken out of the house 2-3 times.) I didn't continue to try and close the lid, because it looked like it was pulling the top corner apart. Anyway after calling support and then driving an hour away to nearest FedEx Express, I got a call today - it will cost me $180 to repair. Of course I had to close it to put it in the shipping box, and as it closed the broken hinge did pull apart the top slightly. They consider that accidental damage and assume I dropped it. I was also admonished for not getting the extra warranty coverage. Shouldn't a computer last more than 3 1/2 months without having to pay for extra warranties!!! It seems from reading these boards that Lenovo hinges are an issue. I certainly had no problems with previous laptops. So - am I just stuck, or has anyone found help with their hinge situations. thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I bought the T61 in 2008 with 3 year warranty in USA. My T61 is showing the loose hinge problem which has been encountered by many other forum users. Right now I'm in Chennai, India and the Lenovo warranty center in Alwarpet, Chennai says the hinge problem is not covered under warranty. Could any one from Lenovo confirm this for me. Thank you, Thaniks

Answer:T61 Loose Hinge - Does the warranty cover this issue?

Well i was once told that Lenovo don't cover hinge problem by the Lenovo service personnel, but then on my second attempt and through some coercion they said yes. Mark_Lenovo did mention that the loose hinge is within the normal repair parameter, while many people in the USA have the hinge problem repaired under warranty. This is the message that Mark_Lenovo sent me regarding the issue of hinge and warranty. ------------------------ The hinges should be covered under warranty.  Sometimes the staking of the pin inside the hinge fails - we have several designs - some are "D" shaped which can become rounded, and some are epoxied I believe.   It is also possible that the screws have loosened which hold the hinge to the LCD frame or to the chasis - the locktite did not hold.  If you are in warranty, I would expect us to cover this unless there were visible signs of abuse (like dent or abrasion from being dropped). ----------------------------

Hi all, i'm currently having some issues with the T420 in regards to the hinges. I got it on April 2011 and was reasonably happy with it, OK there was a stuck pixel but its not directly in line of vision so I can live with that. However after 5 months of relatively normal usage my hinges have become really loose, so much that at some angles it can't support the weight of the lid. It's disappointing considering the hinge on my 4 year old T61 is still relatively strong in comparison. I have 3 years warranty on the system so I thought I might as well call Lenovo Support (UK) to get it fixed, however the Lenovo rep stated that it can't be replaced under warranty as its within "reasonable wear and tear" and therefore, require a fee if I want to send it in for replacement. For sure I understand if it's 2 years old or something but 5 months? Something is not right. I was able to bide some time with the Lenovo rep to keep my case number open for a few days in regards to this, but I would like some clarification on the issue with the warranty on hinges. Reading posts on this forum indicates that the hinges are covered under warranty (ref) as long it hasn't been involved in heavy damage which mine hasn't. I also uploaded some videos of the issues i'm facing so you guys can have an idea. Is it unreasonable for me to get this fixed under warranty? I would really like some help on this, particularly from the senior mods or staff who can help me on my issue since I only have... Hello All, My envy m6 screen hinge destroyed the lower case and now whenever I try to open the laptop the case gets open because the hinge is not attached to the case anymore.I DID put the screws back in HOWEVER, thanks to bad engineering and the cheap plastic they keep getting out again.I am really disappointed. I am looking for help to solve the problem of the ENVY.The lower case is destroyed now and the upper case doesn?t hold the screws of the hinge in it anymore. By the way, I had Pavilon dv6 and I lost because of bad engineering as well. The first one died because the graphics accelerator got UNATTACHED FROM THE MOTHERBOARD because of the heat generated by the graphics accelerator. I should have learned from my first mistake but I didn't!

To whom it may concern, I am writing this message to inform of you of my displeasure with one of your products. I purchased a HP Envy M6 in August of 2015 at around $700. Last night I went to open my laptop and I heard a loud snap. The noise that was heard was my hinge breaking as well as it snapping the plastic from the bottom base cover. I have now had three HP laptops and all three broke the same way. After doing some research online I found out that this is a common thing for HP laptops, specifically the Envy models. I even noticed that there was a class action lawsuit against HP for their hinges specifically. I went around to repair shops to get a quote on how much it would to be fix and was quoted from $150-$200.I was shocked at the amount quoted as I already had put a large amount of money into the purchase of the product and the product being relatively new. It is unfair to your consumers to have high priced top of the line products break on them on a regular basis. I am inquiring with your company to see if there is anything you can do to help rectify the situation. If nothing can be done I will stay away from all HP products permanently. Please feel to reply with any questions or comments you have about this incident. Thank you in advance for the timely response.

Answer:Broken hinge after only 18 months of ownership

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.

I called HP many times about my broken hinge cover issue and was told each time that they would fix it but wanted to charge me $300.00. This is not my first HP product but it will be my last. The suggested resolution to my issue by charging me $300 is disgraceful and unacceptable!

I purchased Dell 5558 last year through eBay. I am a cautious user of digital gadgets. My laptop cover and its hinges are broken because of normal wear and tear. This product is bogus and worst. besides there is no proper service from dell. I think lenovo products are better than Dell at least they provide prompt services and their spare parts are easily available in market in India. I suggest every one not to go for Dell

I have a 6 month old Inspiron 5558 that won't close properly due to a bad hinge on the right side. Spent an hour with support, only to tell me that this is not covered under warranty, even though there is still another 6 months left under Mfg warranty. The hinge is cracked, which in turn has cracked the cover of the LCD. In order to close the laptop, we have to squeeze the hinge with the screen, and slowly close. From reading through posts, it appears that Dell has ongoing issues with hinges. I totally understand and would expect a two year old device not to be covered, but at 6 months? And a broken hinge is not covered? Anyone have any thoughts?

Answer:Inspiron 5558 - 6 Months Old - BROKEN HINGE

Nope. Nothing. I had many calls with support and they still insisted that it's normal wear and tear on the machine. I purchased through Costco, and they tried calling support and received the same answer. Long story short, I will never purchase a Dell device again. Ever.

Another complaint for a broken hinge issue on the 5558 laptop. Of course Dell Service will tell you that there is no known issue for this problem but search the forum and you will find several complaints. Dell is doing nothing about this problem and in my opinion they are definitely side stepping the issue so they do not have to take care of their customers. Dell service claims that the defect is due to "Customer Induced Damage". Dell also claims there is no known issue for this defect so you will have to call the "Out of Warranty" department. The out of warranty department will charge you 160 bucks and take your laptop for 7 to 10 business days. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING for a laptop that is less than six months old and definitely does not have any customer induced damage.
Laptop purchased 5/13/16
Laptop broke 10/12/16
Spent an hour and a half with DELL chat - Session ID <private> - Result you are <profane>. DELL does not care if you have a defective product.
On my laptop, the actual hinge did not break but the laptop cover broke away from the hinge. Obviously the plastic cover mounting pads are not strong enough to handle the repeated torque on the joint when opening the laptop.

Sorry to hear of your problem.  Unfortunately I am not familiar with the warranty in your country.  I would suggest you contact Lenovo Support to discussion the repair, the cost and any possible warranty coverage you may have.  In the event the laptop is no longer under warranty you might seek out a local computer repair center to see if they will do the repair for you.

Dear Lenovo Team, I have the same hinge problem with a lot of users already reported here. I have purchased my Lenovo u330 touch notebook in 2014 July in Turkey and it's still under warranty. I've never dropper or caused any other physical damage on the notebook. The left hinge was broken off during the normal usage (by opening the lid). Last week i've sent the notebook to the Lenovo Service Center here in Istanbul, Turkey but they are requesting 300$ for recover, even it's under  the regular warranty. According to the Service Center, it's a user fault. Please help me to understand how it can be a user fault? I though notebooks are designed for mobile usage and they have lids for opening and closing up. If opening a lid is a user fault then i'd expect to see "Use with only open lid, do not touch the lid never ever!" warning in the user manual. My warranty will be expired in a month and i'm still hoping some help on this. Many thanks.

Hi all,
Laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 i5558-5717SLV Signature Edition
Purchase date: 12/09/2015
I am so glad to see to see that I am not the only one who has a hinge cover broken as I was beginning to think that I might have accidentally bumped the laptop somewhere (I am extremely cautious electronics user and none of the electronics products I used had physical damage in past.).   As you can see in picture, left side hinge cover is broken which causes the display screen to come off when I try to close the lid.  Getting hold of the customer representative is an ordeal itself but when I finally could get hold of the guy, he told me that this damage is not covered under the one-year warranty and I will have to pay $150/- in order for this laptop to get looked at by dell professional plus have to bear the cost of the new part.
Apart from this problem, touchpad is too sensitive to touch of my palm and cursor goes all over the place when I type. I have tried to change touchpad settings from control panel and uninstall the touchpad drivers but it has not helped.
Overall I think this laptop is of low quality. Now I understand that Inspiron products can’t be compared with Vostro or Latitude products, but this laptop is bad for even Inspiron standards. My four-year-old Inspiron N4110 is way better than this laptop and still working fine. I am sorry to say this but this has been one of the worst products I have ever used.

I'm going to say, THIS IS JUST SO UNFAIR. my laptop's hinge and base cover has been broken like 2 months ago, because I'm an oversea's student so I couldn't send my laptop back home and repair it. I must say, my laptop is broken totally without any reasons, I've got no idea what is going on with it either. but then when i got back home and I sent my laptop to Lenovo's repair department, they said I'll have to pay for the repairing. I did say to the staff who was working there the day I sent my laptop away, that I DID NOTHING TO THE LAPTOP AND IT JUST HAPPENED TO BREAK ITSELF. here are some photos of my broken laptop, as you can see, there are no any crashing or anything happened to the hinge, it came off by itself. http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/9389/dsc064132.pnghttp://img36.imageshack.us/img36/2043/dsc064152.pnghttp://img692.imageshack.us/img692/6014/dsc064142.pnghttp://img705.imageshack.us/img705/5427/dsc064102.png

Hi all, Recently I found that my T61 right LCD hinge was broken. The machine is still under warranty. I sent to the service centre and a few days later the person told me the hinge is not under warranty and I have to pay about 100 bucks USD to replace the part! I read through the warranty many times and 100% sure I didn't void it. My question: Is the hinge under warranty? Thanks. zhichien

Answer:Is T61 hinge broken under warranty?

The hinge is under warranty as far as material defects are concerned. But the most common case of hinge breakage is that the ThinkPad has been dropped. I don't know the situation in Singapore but here in Germany the manufacturer must verify that the problem is not his fault within the first year of warranty (and not the consumer). So my hinge got replaced on warranty. If you have evidence that the hinge broke without you handling your TP negligentyou probably have good chances to have the hinge replaced for free as well. The price of 100$ might sound high at first but if you take into account  that the complete display has to be disassembled and the structure frame needs to be replaced thats an okay price. However my TP came back from repair with the hinge even more broken then before.

Hi,

Just wanted to determine my risk....  So I bought a Y40-80 laptop for my wife a little less than a year ago, and just from normal opening and closing, the left hinge has failed and eventually cause the cover to separate from the lcd.  I'm holding it in place using a big metal clip at the moment.

As far as I am concerned, this was the result of a manufacturing defect; I have owned many laptops over the years and have never had a hinge failure like this, let alone have it happen in less than a year.  It was not dropped, or abused in any way.  Looking on line I see a lot of complaints about this, e.g., on Y50 but not my specific model.

Anyway, when I chatted online with Lenovo support, after I sent them a picture, the guy warned me that it may not be covered under warranty since it is "physical damage"; I never knew that this sort of cop out language existed with respect to warranties on computers.  Accidental damage I agree, but this is clearly a defect in the product.

They sent me a box to mail it to the depot, and I just wanted to find out what would happen if they refused to fix it under warranty.  There is no way I am paying to fix this problem, but I'm concerned that they will hold my machine hostage if we reach an impasse.

Will Lenovo demand money from me to send the machine back?  If so, any idea what it will be?  I'm just trying to determine how much risk I'm willling to t... Read more

Answer:Y40-80 - Warranty repair for broken hinge

A little cart before horse here?  I think you're working yourself up about this when it probably isn't necessary.   They have to cover their asses and from a pic there's probably no way to tell if you sat on the thing when it was open.  If it's a design flaw (and I'm pretty positive it is), the tech will know it and your laptop will either be repaired or replaced.  I have many issues with Lenovo quality, but for a large corporation, their support has been alright.   Stop thinking about the laptop and it'll be back before you know it, keep obsessing on it like a pot of water that won't boil and it will feel like forever.  Good luck!

I am currently out of warranty, and want to know the cheapest way to get my x61t fixed. Based on the pictures given on LCD service parts for the x61t, it seems that  #8, #5, or a combination of the two is broken or no longer attached to each other. From what I can see, the plastic under #7 seems to have completely ripped in such a way that the LCD screen is incapable of staying upright on its own. I looked through "Find a Service Provider" and don't know if the places listed do "out of warranty" repairs, and they mostly seem to be geared towards companies. If I cannot get this fixed for under a couple hundred, I'm probably going to end up buying a netbook.  Thanks in advance for any help!

Answer:x61t broken hinge & out of warranty

deadlysyphen, It may be worth a bit of calling around to check labor rates, and depending on your skill level it might be worth a bit of careful disassembly to see what has actually failed in the system. You can check prices on our parts at 800-388-7080 to get a sense of how much just the parts would be.   If you decide to go the netbook route, I'll bet there are a number of folks on this forum that might be interested in buying your system. In any event, I'm sorry to hear about your trouble.  I use an X60t tablet and have for several years and really enjoy it. Best regards, Mark

Hello,
I bought my Dell Inspiron 5548 in November 2015. My right hinge is making strange noises and finally it broke off. I want to know how could I get this fixed. I haven't misused it or dropped it at any point of time. since it is not even one complete year, im assuming my laptop is covered under the warranty. probably this is not the first complain Dell is receiving in this model since I saw previous posts complaining of the same problem.

Here I'm attaching the photo of the broken hinge as well as the bill that was given to me when i purchased my laptop.
Let me know whether i should post my service tag/express service code here.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that mounts of your Lenovo X220T got broken.

If your warranty includes accidental damage protection, Lenovo support will get it fixed for you. Else, physical damages will not be covered under warranty. You may have to visit the nearest authorized Lenovo service center to get it fixed on a chargeable basis.

Best regards,
Mithun.

Just another sap who bought the Y50-70 Touch. I'm six months out of warranty, and the left hinge has separated from the lid/locked in place. I can't close the lid for fear of damaging the screen, too, so this isn't much of a laptop any more. Never taken it out of the house, but now it's not an option at all - no way to travel with the thing open all the time.I've flipped through the earlier posts on this. Saw how common it was, and how Lenovo was refusing to cover it under warranty at first. After finally investigating it, they changed their tune... for those under warranty. That implies to me that they know they're at fault for the issue, that they shipped a product to customers later found to be defective.I've been extremely careful with this laptop. It's never left the house and mostly just moves from a side table to my lap <2 feet away. Never dropped or anything. When I first got it, I'd hear this cracking sound sometimes when opening the lid, but I thought it was just from the newness and it'd relax. Would just open it really carefully. With how I use it, the machine made it this long - unfortunately past the warranty ending. It's like being penalized because of my caution. So far, no help from customer support. I've had my case escalated once. The second person I spoke to said it was Lenovo's final decision to not fix my laptop. I tried reasoning a bit, suggesting that it'd be an acceptable solution for them to send me the parts free of charge for me to install myself... Read more

Hi All,I can see a few people have been having similar issues to me which is one of the hinges breaking from the magnesium casing on my W500.  Like others that I've seen on the forum, there is no damage to the laptop (i.e. it hasn't been dropped, abused, scratched, etc...).  It is a well used laptop and has done a lot of travel as I use it on-site with customers pretty much on a daily basis, so it does get opened and closed a lot. I decided to lodge the issue under warranty and  was told that this would have to be lodged under my ThinkPad Protection (TPP) and NOT under warranty.  The difference being that the TPP is pick-up and deliver with no ETA.  I didn't feel this was right as the issue occurred under fair use, and not abuse of the laptop. After discussing with Support, they suggested the best way forward was the Customer Complaints area.  After being given the run-around and lied to a number of times with regards to callbacks, I finally got an answer as to what is not covered under warranty (see below). What this Warranty Does not CoverThis warranty does not cover the following:    uninterrupted or error-free operation of a product    loss of, or damage to, your data by a product    any software programs, whether provided with the product or installed subsequentyly    failure or damage resulting from misuse, abuse, accident, modification, unsuitable physical or operat... Answer:Lenovo Refusing Warranty on W500 Broken Hinge

I had a broken hinge on my W500, and took it in to the local Lenovo service depot on the very last day of the 3 year warranty. The person who accepted the computer told me that a broken hinge can be caused by either failure of the hinge casting, or impact to the computer.  The former would be covered by warranty, the latter not.  They told me that they would have to wait until they disassembled the display panel to determine if the damage had been caused by impact. Several days later, I got a phone call advising me that there was no evidence of impact damage, and the hinge had been replaced free of charge.  The display panel and the front and rear display panel bezels were also replaced free of charge, because they had very slight damage as a result of the fracture of the hinge. So, all I can guess, in your case, is that the service facility looked at the machine and came to the conclusion that the damage to the hinge was as a result of impact, not a faulty casting. Michael

Hello,  I am 2 weeks out of warranty with a broken hinge.  Lenovo cannot or will not sell me the parts.  The only option they will offer is their repair of the system for around $200.   Additionally, I have not been able to find an OEM parts distributor, as with other Lenovo models. So, without the ability to repair the unit myself (for which I am more than capable of doing) I am at the mercy of Lenovo. And with such an obvious engineered weakness that is not being owned up to (search the forum for hinge and it is the second most discussed thread next to partition design) I prefer not to give them one more cent than I have to.  .   So the question I have ? is anyone aware of a parts distributor selling the lower laptop case??   Thank you greatly for any assistance you might be able to provide,Nyandrews

nyandrews, Sorry to hear about your troubles with this.  I'd like to help... Please send me a private message with your name, address, phone and your system's serial number and I'll see what can be done to help. Best regards, Mark

I want to preface this message so that others may understand how horrible an experience it is to claim anything on the manufacture warranty with Lenovo.  Previous to my company using Lenovo we used Dell. Their support was always top notch. They came on site to replace broken or defective parts and all with in 1-2 day period. The Lenovo warranty experince will start by you being suffeld around to 3-4 different Indian speaking help desk locations, and after explaining your issues 4-5 times they will inform you that you must ship the laptop in for replacement services. This will require you to be with out your laptop for 7-10 business days. That in my book is  unacceptable to any standards. IBM Thinkpads used to be known for how well they supported the business user, now we are told that you have no other options but to ship the laptop and wait more than a week for the matter to be resolved.  This is the last straw from a frustrated IT manager, and we will be taking our business to a vendor that values customer support and stands behind thier products better.

I bought my S430 instead of a mac, what a mistake! After only five months of light use the charge point on the laptop is loose internally and the laptop won't now charge (it sometimes does with a bit of wiggling). Rang lenovo to be told that this is wear and tear and not covered on the warranty! Repairs are going to be Ģ212 plus VAT, plus parts.the repair will cost nearly half the price of a new one. Disgusted at the expense! Won't be buying another, oh and also tried to 'upgrade' to Windows 8 dont bother, battery manager doesnt work etc etc. Oh and made recovery disks as per instructions they dont work and now cant return to windows 7 without...you guessed it buying new ones from Lenovo. I feel like I have been had.

Answer:S430 broken charge point, five months old, not covered on warranty, gutted! Buy a mac!

Hi Armitage_Shanks,

If you'd like, I can put in a request to have that serviced.
If you are still under warranty this repair should be covered.
PM me so that I can gather the needed information.

My 2 year old Thinkpad R60?s right hinge broke when closing the lid causing the LCD plastic covering to snap off around that hinge. I called IBM?s EasyServ telling them my right hinge is broken and the LCD covering around that hinge snapped off. I was told that I still had 1 year left in my warranty and that the hinges are covered. I packed up my laptop and shipped it to the depot on July 16th, 2008. A week later I get a call regarding billing information for my laptop repair. I was charged $145 + tax to get my laptop repaired. I argued that repairs should be covered by the standard 3year warranty especially since I was told by the representative that it was. It took over a week for someone to get back to me and tell me that hinges are not covered under the warranty because the repair technician classified it as a user induced damage rather than manufacturing defect. My old R52 is still in rock solid condition and I have treated my R60 the same way, so I hardly consider closing a laptop lid as inducing damage to the hinges. The lady would not budge stating that there are no pervious cases proving it?s a manufacturing defect. So I gave up and paid for the repair. August 12, 2008, is the day I paid for my repairs and was told it will take 24 to 48 hours for the repairs. I called on Friday Aug 15 to find out the repair status and I was told that the hinges were placed on Order on Aug 13. After all that arguing, and being told that there are no previous cases... After 6 -7 month of use your hinges gone. Dell India support say, this does not cover on warranty.here was no drop, spill or accidental damage done to the laptop.
Dell India support  say it is due to usage. Please note laptop is meant to be use and not to keep on showcase. If your hinges broken with in 6 month, do you think next time the same user will ever look for a Dell laptop.
Either improve your quality in India or replaced your poor quality spare. Or else simple go away from India.
Our PM Mr Modi will not tolerate such poor quality service to Indian. I am going to take this matter to highest level. Please inform your India service to replace my hinges asap.

It is bad enough that Dell makes a product with a defect affecting many of their unuts (bad hinge design/manufacture), but then makes a statement that part is specifically not covered under any of their warranties.

Hi there - I have an Aspire V5 touchscreen - when I went to close the lid, the screen cracked and I spotted that the left hinge has come apart (risen and cracked the screen). Now the laptop wont work (touch screen is flashing, mouse doesnt work - exactly the same issue as the other posts on this forum). I see on this forum and google search that this is fairly common with Acer laptops (going back to 2010) and wondering why this wasnt fixed. Has there been a recall on this, does anyone know?  I see from a google search that HP fixed a design flaw on their laptops to stop this from happening once it was reported, several years ago (2008) (I wish I had known about this problem before I purchased). If you google that you'll get the information. I've only had my laptop a couple of years. I take excellent care of my laptops, and never had this issue. (I dont travel with it, and dont close the lid often - it sits stationary on my desk and is only 2 years old).   I've sent emails out to my friends working in technology this afternoon - and so far no one has ever had this issue although no one has Acer.  Its a huge inconvenience as I use this laptop for work.  So I'm just waiting to hear back from Acer.Any suggestions on getting this fixed or replaced asap?

I bought a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad T460S in Nov 2016. This is supposed to be their premium business laptop range. I uses it daily, simple computer work. Lately it starts to have problem hibernating and waking from sleep/hibernation. Yesterday the steel left hinge suddenly broke. I contacted the Lenovo Support today and they replied : The three year international Warranty does not cover the hinges. It's like you buy a new car, then the hinge of your drive breaks and it's not covered by warranty? What kind of logic is that? They want to charge me for the repair. I am getting a quote from them, this is probably the last Thinkpad I will ever buy from Lenovo! I am getting a quote from them. I wonder if we can get the part myself and attempt a self repair. But this is deeply disappointing!

Hi dears,I've bought in my country (Italy) the Spectre x360 (2015 edition), model 4102nl, 8gb RAM, 256 SSD, i7, QHD display in september, so it's two months old.Since first day I've unboxed my Spectre, I've noticed what looks like a manufacturing defect, despite it's very tiny.My right hinge isn't aligned with the display lid, compared to left hinge and it sticks out from the lid less than 1mm. The left hinge doesn't sticks out.Furthermore, when I open the display lid sometimes (usually when I close the display totally) I can hear a very faint noise coming from the right hinge.Could this lead to breaking itself in the immediate future? Can this cause the display glass to break because of its misalignment?I'd like to avoid to send it to service because I need the laptop for work, only in the case it doesn't cause any problem in the future.I've attached some images examples and a video with the faint sound when opening it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2j6u3jpL6M left hinge from top  left hinge from side (the good one) right hinge (assumed to be defective) from the topright hinge (assumed to be defective) from the side. The cracks don?t appear after the new cover replacement. I don?t know exactly what they did but I presume they have used new-designed cover. The area near to the hinges should be firmer. You should simply ask the ASP for the new replacement.

Best regards and Happy New Year! :)

Of course I'm another unfortunately guy that had hinge failure.  While hinges are available for purchase online and not too expensive, the back cover is not.  Apparantly when the hinge failed it broke the plastic mounting point on the LCD panel back cover that the hinge screws into.  This part (90204054 I believe) doesn't appear available online, and even if it was it seams like a rather expensive piece.  Anyone have any help in getting a replacement LCD back cover? Thank you for your assistance.

I recently purchased a Ergotron Neo-Flex Adjustable monitor stand for my Gateway FPD1960 monitor in August. When I went to assemble the new stand I found that I needed a hinge cover after I removed the neck hinge from the Gateway FPD1960 monitor (See documentation page 5).

I have contacted both Gateway and Ergotron and both deny responsibility for the part. My final conversation with a Gateway representative said I should contact the following stores: Comp USA, Circuit City, Office Depot and Best Buy since they sold Gateway computers to see if they had a hinge cover. I continue to have trouble finding this part.

Could anyone please tell me if such a part exists and where I can purchase it? I would appreciate any help you can give me so I can complete the assembly of my monitor stand to the monitor. Thank you.

Hi, I got my Lenovo U430 in US however now I am in London, UK. My laptop back cover seems to be broken/hinge gone missing/broken.I don't know the exact problem but I can't close the top screen lid without having the risk of breaking it. I am struck with my laptop being struck to my desk as a desktop now since I can't close the lid. Any suggestions how to get it fixed? As it seems, the back cover would need to be replaced howver the screen and backcover seem to be a single unit in this piece. Please help.Thanks.Saurabh Wadhawan

Hi, Inspiron 13 7000, 2 months out of warranty and they are telling me its tough, pay for repair at 80% of original cost, if this is not uncommon then is this a design fault that can be challenged ?
Pretty poor customer service, theres no way the part is costing them that.

A warranty is supposidly 12 months yet i have only had mine 1 1/2 months and is says i only have 8 months warranty left, somethings wrong there and looking at the dispute page it looks like you cant dispute it until they says its run out????

Answer:warranty 12 months ????

Hi Is it registered with HP? When registration occurs the warranty would be adjusted to start from the born on date (I think you press ESC and then F1 to view this). So if you could try that and then ask again if there is still a difficulty.

My daughter's HP Pavilion 15-p051us notebood developed pretty severe cracking around one of the hinge locations. In looking at this, the cover doesn't seem strong enough to transfer the load of repeated opening and closing to the hinges over the life of the product. Also, the hinges seem as though they may be somewhat 'tight' as far as force needed to open the cover. Have there been other reported problems like this and/or any kind of recall that deals with beefing up the cover in the hinge areas ? Thank you

Very disappointed with the response from Toshiba over an issue we are having with the Z Series laptops.

Let me explain - I am responsible for the laptops at a large college in the south of the UK. We have round 40 Series laptops and on a large number of them the screws which hold he hinge covers in place have come out and become lost, in many cases the hinge covers have come off and been lost as well. The first thing that crossed out minds was 'interference' by students but as no other screws were found to be lose the only conclusion we can come to is that that there is a design fault and these hinge cover screws have worked lose over time and fallen out.

I am currently working through all our Z Series laptops and I am finding more and more lose or missing screws and additional missing hinge covers. We have bought this to the attention of Toshiba but they will not accept there is an issue - but haven't yet provided a reason why this should be happening in such numbers.

As can be imagined we are not best pleased with their response and would like to hear from anyone who has had the same issue. At over 50.00 GBP to fix each pair of hinges, you can imagine how quickly the costs are rising.

Question: warranty cover

HP Notebook 15-BA077S A purchased Oct 16 A fault has occured over the past 8 weeks when 'Copy/Pasting'. Cntrl C to copy a link leads the Laptop to freeze. Ability to close Internet explorer leads to inability to reopen. Laptop needs to be shut down and re started. The problem then could re occur at any time and has even quickly after restart. Purchased through PC World, they have only offered 'replacement of keypad buttons', which doesn't solve the problem. Any solutions welcomed, but I have lost confidence in this product/my current machine so would preferably like to replace or gain refund through Manufacturers warrenty. Is this covered and likely?? Thanks

I have a problem with my HP Envy 17.  I was wondering if anyone tried to fix it instead of using HP service?  Is there a way to replace the hinge?

It appears from the hundreds of posts that a recall should have occurred.  It is a shame because I am a HP fan.

My employer just switched 200 laptops out for the HP Probook and they are great.  It is my personal HP Envy that is acting up.

Suggestions?

Hello,  For the past few months, whenever I closed my laptop lid, the part near the left hinge would remain a (very) little bit up. I'd have to push it myself down for the laptop to be properly close. However, yesterday I closed my lid and noticed that it's much higher this time; I opened the lid and closed it back, and the cover of the hinge came out (looks broken on on the side that was near the screen). Now whenever I move  the lid there's a small cracking/popping sound and the part of the screen bezel above the hinge is popping out (can't be pushed back in) and causing the rest of the bezel to come off as well. I put tape over that part and I am keeping my lid open for now. Is there a way I can fix this at home or at least stop the bezel from coming out and making that cracking sound everytime I move the lid? What happens if the bezel comes off? can it be popped back in or does the coming off mean that something is being broken? Current state if the laptop is:-Bezel is bulging out near the left hinge.-The small round sticker thing has fallen off and I can see a screw surrounded by some circular metal thing.-The cover of the hinge has popped off and appears broken at one side, I can see a metal plate(probably the hinge, I don't have a lot of mechanical experience) and other parts like wires and a nut.-Two sharp aluminium foil-like pieces are slightly sticking out of the bezel.

My Hp has some problems with the bottom cover that pops open every time I open up my notebook. My Laptop has always been in a good condition, it never fell and I hardly travel with it. The reason why the cover opens is probably because of the screen that is to heavy for this kind of design. the problem occured  to me last month. I searched the forum, and found at least 20 pages of Hp-costumers with my same problem. link.I really what this problem to be fixed. It one of your most expensive notebooks. So Its realy sad for me that I bought an expensive product with a design-production flaw. I really hope you can help to solve this issue. I really need my laptop to continue working on it. The problem can only get worse. Please help me fast. Thanks in advance. Kind regards Dylan

I didn't really notice this problem until a few months after having this computer. I have been making bi-weekly payments on this wonderful laptop since fall of last year through a local Circuit World. I soon started to notice that even if I opened the laptop slowly or gently, there was this awful cracking noise coming from the computer. I had gotten used to it and assumed it was a minor thing, as I have experienced with other laptops in the past. It wasn't until I had run my hand over the left corner of the laptop that I noticed that the bottom cover had been starting to "pop out" or at least not connect itself correctly to the top cover as the right side did.  I have never once damaged this laptop via tossing, dropping or rough handling. This computer is very expensive and takes a lot from my budget, so I have made sure to take the most absolute delicate care of this computer, including handling and virus protection. Unfortunately, with this computer now being excessively harder to open than it should, and the damage that I'm afraid this left hinge is causing, it has become more than just a "little" problem to me, and I fear that it will only worsen over time. I've noticed that in another forum, a customer had their HP ENVY replaced, but I'm wary that I cannot recieve the same treatment because of my purchase throught Circuit World. I will talk to the employees at Circuit World about getting it fixed or getting a replacement if that applies to me, but for... I bought a G570 on August 8th of 2011 and the computer so far has pulled through for me and met my expectations for it. However a few weeks ago my Hinge broke and I was still in warranty and I sent it in for repairs. While my computer was on its way to Texas via fed-ex i read a lot of horror stories of people with lenovo customer service and how laptops got lost and everything so I was a bit scared to send my laptop in. However all went well and I think Lenovo deserves a good post from me for their fast repair and great customer service. Every large company will have its gimmicks here and there because no one is perfect and from the service I received, good job lenovo! My only complaint was that it was hard to find the number to call to get my computer fixed haha.

I have Lenovo Y560. We bought a warranty extention few months back using phone support. They said we will get the receipt in 48 hours and warranty will be  updated in a weeks time. But its been almost 7 months now or so. No change in warranty status.

It would be lot better if some kind Lenovo staff here help update warranty on page as I need to get the laptop serviced ASAP.

We called phone support again and what they said is same , it will take 24-48 hrs for receipt and 1 week to update warranty online but they have database with all recodes so you can give Acc number to use the warranty. I am not sure how this works using account number. Would be much better for me if someone just update the warranty on page.

Details are as follows..

To use Warranty in the database  : Acct number : 1600360225

Warranty  valid  till Dec 2013

Serial number: QBxxxxxxxx

Machine Name: Idea Pad Y560

Please help as I need to use IWS in India.. and Lenovo India wont accept my request as they dont see updated warranty on your website.

I have purchased one Dell Vostro 3546 series laptop 2 days back i.e 4th June 2015. When I checked the Warranty details for my laptop (tag <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>) it shows that the warranty will expire on 24-Dec-15 which is less than 6 months whereas the Dell provides the 15 months warranty for this laptop.
It shows that the product is shipped on 24-Sep-14 and thus the warranty will expire on 24-Dec-15 but how come the warranty will expire when the product was not at all purchased by customer.
I have purchased this laptop from authorized dealer under the bill from Nehru Place and request you to please let me know the solution for my problem.
Thanks
Prateek

Answer:Dell Warranty less than 6 months on new Purchase

You need to register the system with Dell (transfer ownership to your name) to initialize the warranty.
Use the system service tag and the link above.

About a month ago my computer would not charge. Purchased a new power cord but that was not the issue. The motherboard has went out on the computer. I paid about $1200.00 for this computer hoping it would last me through college. Now halfway though my second year, I'm looking at having to buy a new computer. I have read that the issue I'm having is common for my computer. Have there been any recalls or are there any options I have to get my computer fixed.  Thanks for your help. JTS

My thinkpad Yoga died at begining of June. Called Lenovo who sent a replacement HD which didn't resolve the problem so I had to ship the item in for repair. This is 16 June and I am yet to hear anything or an ETA on when I can have it back. Just wondering how long does it take on average to get a Thinkpad repaired? Really pissing me off that the rep flatout refuses to extend my warranty for the days I have to wait for it to be repaired.

Answer:1 months+ wait for a warranty repair?!

depends on the parts availability. But 1 month sounds quite long.
