Broadcom crystal HD BCM 70012 - Idea Pad S10-3s cannot find the new hardware. Help!!

Question: Broadcom crystal HD BCM 70012 - Idea Pad S10-3s cannot find the new hardware. Help!!

I am using Idea Pad S10-3s, and same as most of the user, I want the computer to play 1080 movie smoothly, so I bought a Broadcom crystal HD BCM 70012. However, after installed in the netbook in the PCI-e slot, it cannot detect the decoder. Can anyone have any workable suggestion? I know that there is a thread for S10-3t here (, but it is too difficult for me to update the bios. Besides, I am not sure if 3s and 3t has any difference and therefore I am not dare to update it. Is there any easiler method or alternative products that can have the same fuction and easiler installation? Thank you very much.

Preferred Solution: Broadcom crystal HD BCM 70012 - Idea Pad S10-3s cannot find the new hardware. Help!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Looking at buying one of the NB305 netbooks but wanted to check if there's anyway these can play H.264 encoded mkv files. I know the pinetrail cpu would probably struggle, but I've read that the broadcom crystal hd card can get around this issue. Would the the NB305 cope with this card as it requires a spare PCIe slot? Guessing there's no option of buying the card with the netbook like you can do with the dell mini 10 and hp mini 311?

Answer:NB 305 & broadcom crystal hd card

Hi mate

I don?t see any reasons why you should not be able to watch and play H.264 encoded mkv files.
The files might be a little bit bigger due to the high definition resolution but and simply VLC player (small tool for free) should be able to play such file?

> Would the the NB305 cope with this card as it requires a spare PCIe slot?
?.No?. you cannot insert, upgrade this notebook with any additional PCI cards?
This is not possible.

I have an AzureWave AW-VD920 HD Video Decoder mini PCIe card. It has a Broadcom BCM70015 chip on it. I cannot get it to work in my X220 laptop. There's an available mini PCIe slot but Windows 7 x64 doesn't detect it. For some reason, the card works in my other ThinkPad laptop, which is an X201 but not in X220. I inserted the card in the Wi-Fi slot but the BIOS halted with an "Unauthorized network card..." message. I know the available mini PCIe slot works because I successfully installed an SSD in the same slot. I also know the Broadcom card works since my X201 recognized it. Not that it matters, but the BIOS on the X220 is current (version 1.39). I welcome any feedback. Thank you in advance.

Answer:Broadcom Crystal HD on X220 Laptop

Definitely this card utilizes pci-e bus lines so it can't work witin wwan mini pci-e/msata slot.wlan slot has usb and mini pci-e bus lines. In your case the cause of issue is white list of approved wireless cards stored within the BIOS. That's the cause of error message you're facing with. So I hope you know the solution regarding the BIOS.

Hi, this is my first Post - but I have been lurking the board since I bought my S10-3t a month ago. This is my second tablet, the first being an Acer C110, circa several years ago. I am excited by the potential for this new tablet as it certainly beats my old companion in all features and capabilities - most of all in battery life (8 cell). However, the potential comes at a price and effort. I have done nearly everything I intend to do to improve the basic device: 2 GB memory, 500 GB hard drive, fresh install of Windows 7 Pro without all the Lenovo bloatware... and the tablet performs quite well. Even the Microsoft Tablet Pack works pretty well. [Thanks to Jesse B. Andersen and his - GOOD WORK] However, one of my principal uses of will be playing video - and this is where I find it is still lacking. In particular, I am trying to play my collection of HD mkv files. My player of choice is Zoom Player and I have installed the best and most efficient codecs. Even with the Haali splitter and Cyberlink codecs installed, and the processor set to maximum performance, the playback is choppy with occasional audio sync issues. So I come to my next performance hurdle. I have purchased a UCI BCM970012 that I have attempted to run from the second PCI slot. As expected, the BIOS refuses to boot the unapproved card. SO, my question to the community is has anyone had success running this card in the S10-3t ?? I see where peop... Read more

Are you sure it's a bios problem and not that the socket is the wrong type? As I understand it a mini pci socket can be either pci or usb, the broadcom HD card needs it to be pci. If you have a socket used by the wifi card it might be worth trying the HD card in theat to see if it's any better. My Intel S12 accepts the HD card and even lets you install the drivers, but cannot access it (that is definately a bios/intel chipset problem)

I was able to install the Broadcom Crystal HD card and a new WIFI card INTERNALLY at the same time. This is how: You will need to buy:BCM70015 Broadcom Crystal HD pci-e card (must be this model number) AND Q802XKG 802.11 b/g Wireless Lan PCI-E 1) Remove the original WIFI card from the pci-e slot and store in a safe place2) Remove the spacer metal plate from the BCM70015 Broadcom Crystal HD pci-e card3) Place the BCM70015 Broadcom Crystal HD pci-e card where the original WIFI card was4) Take the antennae connector shield off from the auxilary antennae and place them over the primary antennaes connectors to protect the circuits.5) In the empty PCI-E slot [the trick is this isn't a PCI-E slot but rather a USB slot which is why the new WIFI card works but the stock wifi does not] install the new Q802XKG 802.11 b/g Wireless Lan PCI-E card in the slot and connect the auxilary antennaes. After that you are done, boot up and install the drivers and enjoy!. - I wish the postings on this forum were more organized as it was confusing understanding which posts meant s10-... Read more

Hello,I've been experiencing issues with the Broadcom wireless card. I wrote to the assistance many times since when my laptop was in the warranty period but the problem came out again and again... They continued on telling me what to do, always the same procedure, I even told them that this issue wasn't new for the laptop but they always answered with the same things: update the Broadcom drivers, use the automatic troubleshooter, restore the previous status of the system... but this is not called "solving a problem" and my laptop isn't repaired. Now I'm stuck because I'm out of warranty and I don't know what to do, I'd like to receive some help from someone is possible. It happens that the icon at the right-bottom of the screen for the internet connection tells me that there aren't available connections but it's not true: my home Wi-Fi is perfectly running and I didn't turn off the connectivity with the connection button on the keyboard. It's only the Broadcom card that gives this issue, or at least I suppose it because it's always the same problem even updating the drivers. I'd like to have assistance and a definitive solution about it. Thanks in advance.

I have a new Asus laptop (U38N) shipped with W8 and now running W8.1. According to the device manager, both wifi adapter and bluetooth modules are Broadcom. I can't make heads or tails of which driver to use. It's a virtual cornucopia of various drivers from 3 manufacturers when in reality, both hardware components are from Broadcom. Is it common to be running an Atheros driver on Broadcom hardware for instance?
The Asus website shows various combinations of driver versions from Atheros or Broadcom or Azurewave to be used for the Broadcom wireless modules.
Here is what Asus shows for my model (Asus 38N):
Windows 8
Wifi Adapter- Atheros (Version V6.30.59.74) and another Atheros (Version V10.0.0.216)
Bluetooth - Azurewave (Version V12.0.0.3100) and Atheros (Version V8.0.0.214).
Windows 8.1
Wifi Adapter- Only Atheros present (Version V10.0.0.263)
Bluetooth - Broadcom (Version V12.0.0.7900) and Atheros (Version V8.0.1.306)

Answer:Atheros drivers over Broadcom hardware??

Hi floepie,

To be sure, you can download HWInfo and view the Network Devices and it will identify exactly what you have:

Note that I do not have wifi on my desktop but yours will be there.

HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download

This should eliminate any doubt as to which drivers you will need. Hope this helps.

Answer:Can't Find Download for TI and Broadcom Drivers

What Windows version do you have?

Is your PC an OEM built one like HP, DELL etc? if so whats its model and version?
If your PC is a home build one then what is the make and model of the Motherboard?

The above info will help us track down the correct driver as you may already know typing those into a search engine will come up with results from all sorts of weird download sites, soem may work but some may not or worst hold malware in the files.

To aid in finding the info I asked for this should help

Download and install Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post Click to expand...

Not understanding the difference between the 1x1 and 2x2 designations of 802.11n, I ordered my X120e with the default 1x1 option. While the speed is OK when I'm close enough to my wireless router, the range is not nearly as good. (Not nearly as good as the 802.11g adapter in my T61.) Now I know better, so I'm on a mission to buy the Broadcom card. According to the hardware maintenance manual, the FRU # is 60Y3251. If you Google this number, there's only one store selling the part: Has anyone ordered Lenovo parts from them before? I understand from another thread on this forum that the BIOS has a whitelist of approved mini PCI Express cards, otherwise, I'd just order a Dell part that has the same Broadcom chip and costs less.

Go to Solution.

Answer:Trying to find the Broadcom 2x2 WLAN adapter for X120e

I wouldn't mind that either. So far the 1x1 has been OK, but it does not connect higher than 72mbps according to my router, but I havent really put it thru its paces. I was also unable to choose the 2x2 when ordering my configuration, Win7 Home config only had 1x1 available, but the WIn7 Pro option had 2x2 as an option. This was on the Canadian Lenovo store. I would have gladly paid the difference. I also thought of trying to get one on ebay, but the BIOS whitelist worries me... But I wonder about the second mini-pci-e slot, used for the WWAN. I'm never gonna use that, could a generic card work in the second slot? There is antenna hookups there as well, though I wonder if they are tuned for cellular use, not WiFi?

I have the Acer Aspire Notebook 5734Z-4725. I have had the black screen with the USB sound going off. I've been getting a pop up saying I can use a faster port but close it because I don't know about ports and don't want to screw up my computer and the pop up notice saying the camera is in use. I have deinstalled/reinstalled the driver. I have also done a system restore on the computer which set it back to factory settings that didn't work. As far as I can tell it is the same driver. Sometimes it seems to be working fine like the video will work but this is very rare and if I move my computer it puts my webcam back to a black screen. My webcam doesn't work with skype, ooVoo, msn, yahoo nothing.please help i'm so tired of it not working it has been like this over a month i have been on the internet for hours looking for a solution.

Do you have a recovery option to reinstall the driver. Note : This image is on a Sony Vaio laptop but more likely similar.Make sure you choose the similar feature if available and not use the restore to factory default as shown.

Here is my issue...
My computer is about 2 years old got it because it was supposed to be awesome for gaming. For the past month now its just been randomly shutting down....or i should say it is randomly shutting off, completely. No warning no shut down procedure just straight to the always scarey blue screen of death. All thats left on is the power button light on the front of the tower, no green power light on the back of the case. Ive taken it up with verizon since i have their security suite and according to them it is not spyware or a virus. At first I thought it was over heating so i cracked the case and gave a little help with a regular household fan on a low setting giving it a bit more air flow, but even with that i figure couldnt be overheating because at times it will shut down minutes after powerup.Could it really just be that it needs a good cleaning physically? Or am I going to have to shell out money for a new power supply? How can I diagnose the power supply of that is the issue? Ive rolled it back to a restore point and so far its run ok for ten minutes. Any ideas? What could be the problem? Hardware, software, spyware? Any help is seriously appreciated.

Answer:Hardware, software, syware..... no idea

Well, clearly, one of the steps here is to clean out all the dust, expecially in the processor and video card heatsinks. Also, while you're in there, reseat ALL the cables, expansion cards, etc.

Next, I'd give it a memory test, at least a couple of hours on one of these. Any failures are a problem, these should run error-free for as long as you let them run.

Hello everyone. I'm new here and this will be my first post on here. I'm sorry if I have started this post in a wrong thread. I'm unsure of where it should go. Anyways, I'm not a tech expert so that's why I here. I will try my best to describe my problem tho.

First of all, I have been having this problem since last week. The problem is that it just auto shut down on me without any warning.

I thought it was because its overheating/the cpu reached it limits hence why it auto shut, but thats probably not the case.

And since that happened I just thought to myself that I should just reinstall windows. Haha. I thought that would solve my problem. But it didn't.

This crash problem occured when I opened game. I also realised that it happen as well when I browse the internet using firefox. Like after I opened it for a few minutes it then shut down.

However, if I'm not opening anything else and just at the desktop and only transferring files for hours, the crash never happen unlike after I rebooted, went to firefox, then googling stuff and then poof, it crashed. I also checked the cpu too, but its not overworking itself. Its just chilling.... Oh, and I checked it from task manager.

I already tried uninstalling the nvidia drivers and went to surf the internet afterward. No crashes at all. I could watch youtube as well without having it crash on me. But when I reinstalled the driver back. It happened again.

So... I don't know really wha... Read more

For the first time ever, I built a PC in late July. Since the first week of owning it, I have gotten the same BSOD once a month, at least. The BSOD's almost all occurred while gaming as well. I also have experienced 5-10 PC freezes, and I am at a loss. I have run Prime95 and Intel's diagnostic program, and the CPU has passed both fine. I have yet to run Memtest though, mostly because I am a bit fearful of stress testing and don't really know how long to do it for (surprised I even did any with my CPU) and just am worried that pushing it to it's max will shorten its life. I have not stressed tested my GPU, and figured it wasn't the problem as the GPU is at full load a lot of times during most days and these blue screens occur about once a month.

My hard drives seemed to cause a problem because of the frequent freezes. I also cannot put my PC to sleep, because it almost always freezes at the welcome screen when it wakes. I ran SeaTools diagnostics for my hard drive, but it froze my PC instantly. I have two of the same hard drive, but it only freezes at this moment when I have both hooked up. I cloned my main drive to my secondary drive and tried booting with each one hooked up individually. In both cases, I did not freeze when running SeaTools. Both drives also passed its diagnostic tests.

So, here I am, at a huge loss. I have tried several other forums, but people rarely answer and mostly just say to update drivers, which I have already done. I don't know what else I ca... Read more

MEMTEST one you will need to make a bootable disk set the BIOSto optical (or USB if preferred) boot the machine and let it run for at LEAST 8passes unless the errors come up straight away. Takes fair time to complete andsome leave it running overnight.

But first run these and delete any rubbish you find with the malware scans the ADW just run the Clean button when done.< DO NOT runon a SSD

I plan to build a system with an Intel Core 2 E6600 with a NVidia 8800 GTX and was wondering if there is any big problem with running my copy of Windows 2000 Professional I already have. I still use it with my 3Ghz Pentium 4 and it's been perfect for me.

If it's not wise to run Windows 2000 on this new hardware is it better to get Windows 2003 64-bit or Windows XP 64-bit and why? I pretty much use my computer to play games like Half Life 2, Flight Simulator 2004, Doom 3 and to watch movies and look at pr0n.

2K had it's time in the sun, now it's past. Get XP SP2 on there and you'll be fine. As most others will tell you, with any 64 bit OS you're going to encounter issues with gaming and drivers. I personally don't have any issues at all on this Core 2 Duo running at 1.66 GHz and using Intel GMA950 onboard graphics, so that monster you're going to build would absolutely scream with XP or Vista for most intents and purposes.

But sticking with 2K at this stage in the "game" of Windows and computer hardware would be like putting racing stripes and a Recaro seat on a Segway...

Hello my friends.
I appreciate a lot your work on this site, and I hope you can help me to find out more about threat that is on my computer.
There is original Windows 8.1 on my PC, so I have option to reinstall it again. This clean system install was done one month ago, but more than a half of my System and registry files are modified on the 22th of August 2013, not by my obviously. Somehow my system was infected again by restore option.
Malwerebytes, Avast and MS Essentials found no infections, but my computer is acting very weird especially my graphic card driver and hard drive. Yesterday I found this threats by Nod online scaner, cause every antivirus I installed found nothing and started to act also weird. I think a have a RAT, or some hack tool installed still.
Nod online scanner found:
adware similar to Win32/AdWare.RegTweaker,
MSIL/HackTool.WinActivate - this is surely inheritance from previos system, and it was not on system partition
BitTorrent-6.3b.exe - I had BitTorrent installed 2 years ago

Today I did system refresh, and now I can not update my windows. It shows some kind of error.

The product is a Zonet ZEW2501 WLAN USB dongle. Before you go LetMeGoogleThatForYouing, ZonetUsa's website has been taken over by hackers/malware hosters. (see:

There are a ton of ""/etc sites that just list freeware and host tons of ads, but most link back to zonetusa and the links are broken or otherwise compromised. I found one hosting the old 2005 drivers, but they weren't Vista compatible.

Anyone have any help?

Answer:Any Idea where I can find a driver for this?;001

That looks like it has the same chipset. Your chipset is supposedly ZD1211 (found this Googling), so drivers for devices with the same chipset should theoretically work.

So I've ran Kaspersky,NOD,and Malware bytes, NOD found nothing, Kaspersky deleted Trojan-PSW.MSIL.Dybalom.fe, Malware found and delete

Once again no idea if any of these are keyloggers. The person that keylogged me accessed my World of warcraft accounts and stole like all myself, i ran the check the other day and thought it took care of it, but then they did it again today and did even more damage, so im just trying to make my computer secure again, Oh and the Hijack logs are this, im willing to pay via paypal for sevices rendered if someone is able to fix this, the guy did damage that will take months to get back.

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. I have been struggling with my both dell machines. Both have Broadcom cards. These cards have similar problems with my router for the past few days. what wireless cards do you have?

Answer:broadcom 1390, broadcom 1370 dell wireless

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Thanks for your cooperation.

I've been kickin around the idea of making a website and I want to host it at my house. I don't expect many hits realistically, I can't see their being more than 10-30 hits a day at it's peak. I'm not too concerned about bandwidth and upload speed. It's not going to be more than 1-3 pages with mostly text with some pictures, so I won't be hosting any downloads.

Do any of you host websites at your house? What are the major security concerns? I plan on using Ubuntu 9.04 for it. This is the hardware I was thinking of using, I didn't think it needed to be that powerful and I wanted it to use the least amount of energy possible since it'd be 24/7. - Winsis Wi-01 Black SGCC / ABS Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case 200W Power Supply - Computer Cases - Intel BOXD945GCLF Intel Atom processor 230 Intel 945GC Mini ITX Motherboard/CPU Combo - Motherboard / CPU / VGA Combo - Crucial 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory - Seagate ST9120817AS 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive - Laptop Hard Drives - Sony Optiarc Black 8X DVD-ROM 24X CD-R 24X CD-RW 24X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA Slim Combo - CD / DVD Burners

I would assume an Atom would be sufficient.

Answer:Hosting a website at your house. Good/Bad idea? Hardware questions as well.

really to host a website it isn't difficult at all, grab a good copy of ubuntu server edition and apache. the only thing that really limits you is bandwidth. Also if you don't plan on getting many hits then hardware is a minimum. The atom processor would do just fine in that case, but if you ever got a lot more traffic then it might become a problem.

I used to host a website from my house on a modded xbox...worked fantastically.

Hi, joined this site hoping I can get some help as internet searches haven't so far.
I got a virus from downloading a fake version I guess of a program which I didn't realize until too late on the 9th. AVG immediately caught a Trojan and other things and said it got rid of them. but to be safe, I tried using SuperAntiSpy and it kept freezing so I installed Malwarebytes. I had Malwarebytes do a scan and it told me to restart after it finished so I did, after computer restarted it said it was connected to the internet but nothing internet related would/will work. I found atieclxx.exe in task manager, which I know would be a part of my gfx card, but it wouldn't let me see the file location for it and it wouldn't let me end it, said access denied. Also found VOPackage and was able to end that. That didn't help, so I tried restoring to a previous date, then I started getting bad image errors on any running task. I've been running scans in safe mode, but nothing is being found. I found a random folder called 003 in my program files and deleted the exe file in there that I searched and found to be a bad file. I tried installing SpyBot instead but that one ended up being blocked by the bad image problem. But nothing has worked and I am at a loss on what to do and I need this computer and its programs for work.
Thanks for any help.

Answer:Hard to find virus I have no idea what to do...?

Hi, yesterday I had an issue with my laptop because I couldn?t connect and detect any Wi-fi network, the Bluetooth device was unavailable too, The network icon just showed available a Ethernet connection but I did not had cable so, I couldn't connect to the internet and I was looking a way to "turn on" the network adapter but I couldn't and I gave up.I download a report from the networks config and it showed the status for the Wi-fi & Bluetooth device as: DOES NOT EXIST (Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 Wireless Network Adapter and Bluetooth Device) Today I turned on my laptop and the Wi-fi was available again, I checked immediately the Lenovo Solution Center App in the section "Instantanea" to compare the changes in hardware and software vs yesterday and in the section for Network Board there is a change, yesterday there was not a available devices for Wi-fi and Bluetooth and today there are both "like they were added today".I'm worry about having the same issue in the future, my laptop is my work tool and if it fails again like yesterday what could I do?Attached a picture of the Lenovo solution center from today showing the difference vs yesterday.

In essence, I have gone over at least 100 forums trying to find one that I could UNDERSTAND. I am good with computers except for one detail... the names and lingo for everything does nothing but confuse me. I can send my specs if you would like. Mainly I am trying to find the driver for the ethernet controller on a Sony Vaio VGC-RB43. I have software that can download and update all of my drivers for me... except I cannot connect to the internet because my Ethernet Controller driver isnt there... which is why I believe that Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit is telling me that their is no cord plugged in. (which there is.) I am on my Mac mini trying to figure this out and find out what driver I need to transport from here to the Vaio. Please.... any suggestions?! Remember when the lingo or names get really technical... I will be lost.

I have recently purchased the B310. Within a week the DVD drive completely disappeared. Used the Microsoft fix Mats_Run.dvd.exe which always says "no optical drive detected". If I shutdown and restart, the drive is usually seen but will disappear again, usually after doing another task on the computer. The machine has been returned to supplier for a complete system clean reinstall but after a week, the problem has returned. When visible, the details are as follows: Slimtype DVDADS8A4SDevice type: DVD/CD-Rom drivesManufacturer: (Standard CD-ROM drives)Location: Location 0(channel1. Hi, I wonder if anyone can give me advice.

I am currently using windows 7 with a nividia graphics card and ASUS N1 3219 motherboard (which I believe is made for HP)

however windows keeps randomly freezing, this happens in win 7, I have also tried a fresh installation of XP And vista and the same thing happens, it simply locks, no blue screens/errors etc so hard reboot needed.

I have taken all insides out and re pasted the processor chip (amd quad core)

I have done tests on the hard drive and hard disc.

I dont (think) it is an overheating problem, well 90% sure its not.

the graphics card did go through a noisy fan stage, however has been cleaned and was doing it before the freezing started and now appears to work fine.

Anyway, I have no idea what is wrong with it, any help would be appreciated or idea's on how or what to fault find next to remedy.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Computer keeps freezing? idea's to fault find appreciated

Please post complete specs of the system in question including PSU type/model etc.

Stress test your graphic card with OCCT, and RAM with memtest (you can find it in techspot's download section). Run minimum of 8 passes on each individual RAM Module.

Also ensure that your RAM's specs are correctly set in BIOS.

Hi, I do not see the restor windows to factory setting among the repair option. Is it not available in Lenovo B320. My idea B320 developed some problem with display and would work only in safe mode. While I suspected problem with IC or graphic card, the technician from the dealer (it was still under dealer's warranty) told me that it is a issue windows software. So, I decided to restore the system to factory settings but to my dismay, there was no such option. The closes I saw was restore system using image recovery (or something of that sort) and when I tried it, it said there is no image file available. Your guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey. I'm looking to upgrade my brothers' computer. I need a new mobo, CPU, and some RAM modules.

Now, I know I can go to newegg myself and look there, but I also know that you guys are pros when it comes to this, and I'd like the best bang for my buck. So I'd appreciate it if you could help me find the best deals out there (from newegg).

Ok, so for mobos, I prefer AMD-based socket 939 (please no AM2--just 939) and exactly 1 PCI-E x16 slot (for later upgrading). For now, they'll be using onboard video, though, so make sure that that's at least mediocre.

For CPU, any 939 Athlon 64 will do.

And finally, for RAM, just please have it be compatible with the mobo. No more than 512MB is needed (again, at least just for now. 3-4 sockets for RAM is preferred).

In total, I don't want to spend any more than $225 including S&H, excluding mail in rebates.

Thanks, dudes.

Any one please help, i just recently had my xbox 360 stolen I ran it on a wireless network, I know the Mac address and whomever stole it used it and logged into my network which tells me they are near me. I suspect they changed the host name and may be using a new IP address since I know they have still been logging online based on my gamertag activity. is there any way to trace my mac address by scannig the local wireless networks? that way I can catch the *******s....PLEEEASE HELP.

Answer:Find hardware using MAC address

If they are logging onto your router, then no. If they log onto their own network, then you can ask one of the game servers to ask for the IP address that logs onto the servers and then you can give the info to the Police, which can get the information on the user from the IP address.

However I don't think the person will be too far from you as the wireless range won't be that far out.

Was this at home, school, etc?

I am getting ready to slick my NT system because I can not get any of my administrative tools to work. I don't know what else to do.

So what I want to do is reinstall NT but I do not have any of my system drivers(computer was given to me)

Is there a way I can find out what hardware I have in it?

Another quick NT is a standalone not connected to a network..When I go into User Manager.. I get the error message "The network path was not found." "Do you want to select another domain to administer?"

What can I do?

Answer:{Resolved} - How can I find out what hardware I have?

Are you logging onto the NT machine with an account that is in the local administrator's account?

From the sound of things, it seems like you have been given a computer that has NT SERVER on it, and was once on a network LAN.

Once you are logged into the machine with a local administrator's account, you need to access the control panel, and slowly go through the different icons to find what drivers have been installed for the different hardware components. In NT4, there is no one area for this, like in Win9x. You need to look in the Multimnedai applet for your sound card, the network applet for your network card, the display applet for your screen card, the modem applet for your modem, the printer applet for your printer...

As for the User manager for Domains question... Click on the YES button, and type in your Computer's name. That will connect you top the local User manager.

I just reinstalled Windows XP, with Service Pack 2. Now, for some reason, the computer doesn't seem to realize it has a wireless card, and does not automatically join networks. Then, when I go to "Network Setup Wizard", I get a "cannot find network hardware" error.... what happened?

Thank you all,

I have never done It before I know you can over clock the videocard (mines a nvidia geforce8800gt) someone told me gateway made me unable to change my mother board so i think that takes the processor out but what about ram and the hard drive? I dont expect a step by step guide (id like one tho but I just want a link to a guide what makes it the hardest is I do not even know the name or brand of my ram or hard drive (I even looked on gateway and couldnt find it) device manager doesnt have it either. any other things that can be overclocked I would appreciate as well. The only thing I found a good amount of info on is cooling. Thank you for your time..

Answer:Where do I find a way to overclock my hardware?

Quote from: doc_holliday420 on August 24, 2008, 02:55:10 PM someone told me gateway made me unable to change my mother board so i think that takes the processor out but what about ram and the hard drive? If your BIOS doesn't allow you to set CPU parameters, it is doubtful that you can (or should) overclock the RAM. There is no overclocking for hard drives.Overclocking is science and art! You have a nice system based on your other topic - my advice is->don't screw with it! Perhaps you could benefit from another video card, see what advice you get. Best of luck!

My computer has been playing up for a while, I just got a CD which should find out which piece of hardware is defective, do I have to boot up from CD through the bios (and if so how to do that) or do I boot up into windows first and play the CD normally? The CD is called Ultimate boot cd.Thank you.

Answer:How to CD to find out which hardware is playing up

As far as I can see click here is not really a tool for an 'Absolute Beginner'.If you want to run it you will need to set the BIOS to boot from the CD drive click here then restart with the CD in the drive.

Dropbox + Sugarsync - running both at the same time - good idea or bad idea?
Will they both be thrashing my machine and eating up lots of CPU like a hungry monster?

Answer:Running Sugarsync + Dropbox at the same time - good idea or bad idea?

You can be specific about what each actually synchronizes so I don't see that as a CPU issue. However if using both over the Internet with one of the more substantial data plans to sync, I would wonder which gets priority or how well they share the upload bandwidth. Wouldn't be so good if one was always grabbing it to sync in the off-load times and the other just kept waiting and waiting for its turn.

Note: The printer's scanner worked fine on my cousin's netbook so I don't think its defective.

I recently bought a new printer which is also supposed to be able fax and scan. The printer works fine, but I am not able to scan. During installation there was an error ("Your new hardware might not work properly"). I opened up Device Manager and there you go, a yellow exclamation mark ! next to Lexmark 2600 under images and devices.
To fix the problem, I tried to update the driver from the installation disc. But it showed me the message "Wizard could not find a better match for you hardware than the one it already has"
I went to the Lexmark website and downloaded and installed the updates, followed the troubleshooter, and even chatted for an hour with a support operator. The instructions he gave me were the same thing I was already doing; try updating from the cd and the downloaded package from the site, install, uninstall, reinstall, try different usb port... but i got the same disappointing result; Wizard cant find a better match.

04:48:58 PM [Marco] I see. I apologize. That is correct. However, to be honest, I am not certain why XP is not allowing you to update using the downloaded package and the CD.
05:02:27 PM [Marco] I see. I apologize we have perform the necessary steps to have the printer updated, however the issue persists. There may be a software or Operating system policy blocking or not allowing the update.

my astranet ia101 scanner has a problem. i need to reinstall it to my pc, because of a hard drive crash and the techs had to wipe and reformat my drive, so i have to put everything back on it. i have reinstalled it before many times with no problem, but this time for some reason, my computer won't find the device driver for it now. i installed it with my disc that came with the scanner, and i also tried with a download from the umax website. when i restart my pc, windows recognizes that there is new hardware, but cannot find the driver. when i click on the vistascan icon, it tries to find it, but says, error, scanner access failed. everytime i run the windows add hardware wizard, it says cannot locate drivers for the scanner. the windows hardware wizard always asks me to put the windows 98 cd in, but the drivers aren't there. they are on the scanner cd and on my computer somewhere. after i installed the vistascan from the disc, it said successful install. the vista shuttle and the copy utility are fine- just the vista scan. how do i solve this? i have windows 98 on my pc.

I have Windows XP Media Center Edition on a Dell E521. Just recently, within this past week, I have connected my USB SanDisk ImageMate SDDR-05 Flashcard reader to my computer in order to transfer picture files from my camera to the computer via a flashcard. While doing the initial setup the Wizard Install box instructs me through all the necessary steps, but it finally states that: ?the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.? I?ve attempted this procedure several times but always with the same result...I still can?t find the device anywhere on my computer, not even within the My Computer icon. On the device manager the SanDisk hardware appears (identified as USB CFII), but as a yellow question mark upon which I always end up uninstalling/removing it. I called SanDisk tech help and they said that their Flashcard Reader already has its driver pre-installed within every XP system...and that is why their website does not offer any ImageMate SDDR-05 driver downloads for XP. I have even tried changing to the other computer USB ports including one which my printer already works without any problems...but I still get the same none result. This hardware did work, without any issues, with my older Dell which had a Windows 98 OS. The SanDisk tech suggested I contact Microsoft... Any suggestions on what I could/should do to remedy this? Please help!!!!

Hey there, firstly i'd like to say i really respect what you guys do helping all the clueless peeps like me, i've had various problems before and have solved them all through searching help threads here.

Recently my system had been playing up, random restarts, long boots, incredibly slugish and i was recommended to do a reformat of windows xp. Which i went ahead and did no problem. Now with the fresh system i am unable to make any connection to the internet.

When i go into the network setup wizard it says "The wizard cannot find your network hardware".

I use a router with a ethernet cable.
The cable is fine.
I've read around and hear i may need to install network drivers. Which i dont have a disk for.
I have no idea where to locate these drivers or what i need to download specificly
My motherboard is a "ECS 945G-M3 V3.0 Socket 775 Core 2 Duo Ready FSB1066 DDR2 Onboard Audio mATX"

Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I really have little knowledge of what i should be doing.

Thanks - A tired Josh.

Answer:Wizard cannot find your network hardware

Go to "system then hardware the device manager" if it does not shop there then go tot add & remove hardware, let the system try to find it. If the system does not find it try to go back and select it from the list, take your time it is not as hard as it may seem. Another point!!! You may need a driver, many drivers are available on the net from the maker, you will need the make/model number.
Added note if you find the net card in the device manager but with a yellow asterisk, right click a panel will open click on driver and try the update feature the driver may be on your windows disk!

Hey there,

I use Norton Ghost to back up the contents of my master hard drive. The secondary hard drive(the one I back up my files to) I place in a Mobile Rack which I slide into my computer before I back up and slide out and put away when not backing up.

All this worked fine for MONTHS. I was able to back up my master hard drive to my secondary hard drive... But all of a sudden I'm having problems...

Last week I opened norton ghost but it said that it could only detect my master hard drive, not my secondary hard drive... So I logged onto windows xp and went into the Add Hardware section to see if I could detect the secondary hard drive. It found it fine and I was able to back up my master hard drive to the secondary hard drive...

This week the same thing happened however when I went into Add hardware, it won't pick up the secondary hard drive... I've also tried uninstalling the Secondary IDE Channel and SIS PCI IDE Controller but it didn't end up picking the secondary hard drive up... I've tried this and restarted my computer seceral times...

Sometimes the yellow light (the light that fashes when the hard drive is loading/thinking) appears on the secondary hard drive so I guess it is getting power to it.

Any ideas why it is not finding the secondary hard drive?
Is the secondary hard drive faulty? It's fairly new (6 months).

Hey all,
Just wanted to know what software you use after a fresh install of windows to view the hardware specs. I have this laptop that has a fresh format, yet no drivers installed. I'd rather not open it up to find out what drivers I'd be needing.

The laptop is a Toshiba M45, and I have the driver page, there are just a few driver options for different configurations. So I need a piece of software that can tell what the exact hardware I have.

Hallo, I tried installing drivers from kxproject (3550) for my soundblaster 0060. Sound was working, and everything seemed fine, but it's either I'm unsure of how to setup the 'recording mixer' so that I can use my microphone, or it wasn't working? So I got rid of those drivers, and went with an older version of the drivers to see if that would help. ( 3548 )

Now, not only is nothing working for my soundcard after that, but it refuses to uninstall with both the default uninstaller ( which I tried first ) as well as the device manager. An odd woodpecker/repeating sound can be heard. If you click uninstall in the device manager on the different sound card parts, the sound card comes back & reappears. The odd noise is not stopped while doing this. I found that by clicking on the properties of the sound card, I was able to see that it used 'audio endpoint'.

I then went into system32, and deleted the 'audio endpoint' .inf files. Now that I've deleted one of the .inf files, it's now falling back onto a different .inf file it seems, and I have no clue as to what the name of this one is, as it isn't the same name as what it's now being given as ( generic software device. )

The soundcard used to be under 'audio inputs & outputs' but now is under 'software devices' in control panel.

What can I do to make this work on my system? Does anyone know how to locate the exact .inf files that the hardware is using so that I can delete them? Does anyone know how to setup the soundca... Read more

Answer:How to find .inf of your hardware? Soundcard issue

Unfortunately, you have made a mess where it will be literally impossible to install any driver for it now.

Suggest to run sfc /scannow from elevated command prompt to fix it and if not, clean install Windows.

(Another option is to copy what you deleted from an EXACT same Windows install from another machine and the replace it. Same build, same architecture, if you have one.)

Do not ever delete .inf files unless instructed to do so by someone with intricate knowledge. What you deleted is necessary for Windows. Anyone that knows better will never suggest to delete .inf files, unless in extreme rare cases, where it is impossible to install a driver otherwise. And never under any circumstance should a Windows .inf file be deleted.

Here is the rundown:

In mIRC/MSN/YAHOO/AIM I get disconnected randomly. I may be in a middle of a conversation in MSN and it will boot me out. In mIRC I may get BLOCKS of information (like 5 minutes worth) in approximatley 2 seconds, or just get disconnected.

I also cannot download anything above 20mb. It will stop at 5mb, 1.9mb, 18.5mb (totally random).

I currently have Comcast HSI. I run a Motorola Surfboard 5100 cable modem, plugged into a Linksys BEFSR41. Both cable modem and router are BRAND NEW.

Silly as it may seem, this is the 3rd router. We had a BEFSR41 before, but it would "die" on us, about once every other day, until we unplugged it, and replugged it in. Before this, we had a netgear router, which worked flawlessly, BUT COULDNT send e-mail. (Strangest thing, could GET e-mail, but couldn't SEND e-mail. EVEN THOUGH THEY BOTH USE THE SAME MAIL SERVER. I could even telnet and ping the outgoing mail server. Tried in outlook, firefox, mozilla suite, etc. E-mail keeps me in business, so I switched to that BEFSR41.

So it seems I just cannot get it right. I just purchased a Cisco uBR904 router, but I cannot get it configured correctly to do what I would like, so will probably be putting it up for sale.

Now, the Motorola surfboard 5100 is about 1 month old. The "new" BEFSR41 is 1 month old. Obviously this combination is not working. I DO NOT CARE HOW MUCH IT COSTS, I want a router that will work flawlessly with SB51... Read more

Answer:I honestly cannot find good hardware

Have you just tried running just the 5100 directly into your computer? That way it will be easy to tell if your really dealing with router issues or if its not something else, such as cable modem, service itself or computer configuration.

Here's the setup:
Recently purchased an EMachines M6805 laptop (A64 3000+). Laptop comes with built in 802.11b/g lan in the form of a Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance wireless card.

After fiddling with it for 10 minutes, wireless worked out of the box. It came with Windows XP EMachines Version pre-installed with all the drivers. Now, of course I'm too stupid to settle for this, so I reformatted two days later and put XP Pro on here. It was lightning fast after that. Problem was, it had none of the drivers on here, so I chickened out and put my other copy of normal Windows XP Home on here. I found the drivers this time and installed them from a restore CD, and wireless worked and so did wired. So far so good.

The problem arose in that Win XP Home didn't accept the emachines cd-key cause it was for a specific version, and i wanted to use my legal home copies, because they don't have all the bloatware the Emachines one does. So I stupidly resorted to killing the WPA (windows product activation) process with a crack. I'm pretty sure I can narrow that down to when it stopped working, though I can't be sure because I fell asleep with my pc on in my bed, and woke up 4 hours later with it sitting next to me. This is around the last time it worked, but I was tired, so don't clearly recollect.

I then got frustrated and reinstalled XP Pro one more time, and it still didn't work even with the drivers. Now I've put the original EMachines copy of ... Read more

I have a computer with integrated video. It appears the drivers are the wrong ones. Although it works, it doesn't work well. The refresh rate is pretty slow.. but it use to be fast before the user 'upgraded' the drivers. Roll back not possible. The problem here is that I have no idea what drivers to get. I went to the motherboard manufacturer with no luck. That is to say I downloaded their video drivers (with a setup.exe) and ran it but it told me I couldn't install the drivers. No reason given.

Maybe this is bigger than not knowing what drives the video on this system. I am open to ideas.

The motherboard is a KM400-M2 v1.0b which appears to be a ECS board.

any ideas? please be specific. I'm a little new to this.

Does it have a "wired" network port? If so connect that to your cable-DSLmodem/router/network switch and run Windows update. That should find missing drivers.
