Lenovo Ideapad S10 - Powers off and beeps nonstop after firmware update

Question: Lenovo Ideapad S10 - Powers off and beeps nonstop after firmware update

Subject says it all, at seemingly random times my S10 now turns off, the wireless light stays on, but no screen, power/charge light, etc. This happens with and without the power adapter plugged in, and has happened 4 times since updating 3 days ago. It hasn't happened when I'm using it, twice when it was idle (It makes a great alarm clock at 3am) and twice when waking it from sleep. In order to turn it back on I need to hold down the power button to hard reset, unplugging power adapter doesnt help, battery has a full charge. Anyone else having this issue? It's stock except upgraded memory (1gb DDR2 667), which I swapped out to make sure it wasnt causing the issue. This never happened with the old firmware. I don't see anyway to downgrade it to the old firmware either.. Original S10 ordered in august, shipped in early Oct (Mft Date 9/25/08), 512mb/80gb 10.2" running the included XP home. http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/drivers/2412/5696.html was firmware update. Applied because the boot-on-one key recovery button was annoying. Update applied fine, rebooted, everything else seems fine.Message Edited by jonthompson on 11-29-2008 02:25 PMMessage Edited by jonthompson on 11-29-2008 02:27 PM

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Ideapad S10 - Powers off and beeps nonstop after firmware update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

heya i dont know if anyone has had this problem or whether anyone is able to help but i have a lenovo ideapad z580 model type 2151 core i5 3210m laptop that powers on, fan spins, led lights come on and screen lights up but nothing is displayed, no lenovo logo, no access to bios, nothing. if i use the nova key the blue menu pops up in the middle of the screen but if any of the options are selected the menu disappears and screen stays blank.

i have tried connecting to an external monitor and get nothing, i have reseated ram, swapped ram slots, reseated hard drive. tried it without a hard drive, taken out the cmos battery, taken out the battery and held down the power button for 60 seconds, tried it on just the ac adaptor, unplugged all peripherals i.e dvd drive, wifi card ect.

if i press ctrl alt delete computer restarts but still the blank screen, ive seen many posts and forums that describe a display that black as in doesnt turn on but mine is on, i can see the light switch on when i press the power button.

any help anyone could give me would be grately appreciated.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z400 that was bought in 1st-2nd week of May, 2013. I have a problem that started on May 21, 2013, my laptop battery suddenly drops from 25% to 6%. I've read some posts that it requires firmware update to work normally.. This is the site

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035310

Is there any steps needed while performing this Upgrade? Is it safe? Will it fix my problem?  By the way, I'm here in Philippines and the Ideapad Z400 was bought by my uncle somewhere in Saudi Arabia, and he delivered it to me when he got back here. I started using the laptop on May 8, 2013. Thanks..

Over the last week my Ideapad 110 (purchased July 2016) has started to emit sequences of three beeps for varying periods of up to several minutes.    I can't find a reason for this - or any explanation for it and the laptop appears to function normally in all other respects - certainly nothing seems not to be working!    The duration and frequency of these emissions of beeps varies - but they are always sequences of three beeps in groups of three. Where a dot is a beep and a dash is a gap with no sound - the beeps would appear thus:-...-...-...---...-...-...---...-...-... Any ideas on cause and solution gratefully received?

I was playing a game on my PC while it was storming out and the power surged. Before I could unplug my pc the power came back on and my computer started back up. After starting back up it said installing update do not turn off the computer. I waited until it was done then it brought me to a black screen with a Windows logo and a circular loading bar. I waited somewhere between 5-10minutes before holding down the power button until it turned off. Upon turning the computer back on all the fans would work and everything it would show the blue screen that says to press esc then brings me to a black screen where it would have a _ mark in the top left and beep non stop. It isnt a long beep or anything its just multiple beeps non stop until I turn it off. I have tried taking out the ram and putting it back in but it just keeps beeping. I did a mem test and it showed that nothin was wrong with the ram.  The beeps are high pitched and very fast.

On the task bar my audio symbol has a red x next to it.  When I place the curser over the audio symbol it displays the message "No Audio Output Device is installed".  I have downloaded The Realtek driver and after installing the driver I got the message "The driver installation wizard successfully scanned your machine but did not find any device to be updated".  I ran the device manager and it does not list a device for audio/sound/speaker.  I have not removed any hardware from my computer and the sound was working before the firmware update 2.23.0.  I had the same problem several months ago after an update and I downloaded the driver and it corrected the problem.  My computer is under warranty so where do I get it fixed?

I bought my first Lenovo Yoga 900 yesterday from Best Buy. I got a bit lost when I tried to update Lenovo's dirvers and software. I know for Thinkpads a software called "ThinkVantage Sytem Update" can support and maintain the latest drivers, BIOS, and other applications for Think or Lenovo systems. It will issue a notification once there are new versions. I would like to know for Yogas is if there is a automatic or semi-automatic way to do this? Or I have to check it manually on Leovo's support website? Thank you.

Answer:How do I update Lenovo's software and firmware?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Unfortunately you will have to look for newer versions manually as there is no update utility.  One good thing is that the downloads on the download page can be sorted by their release date which can save time, but on a new system you will still have to compare version numbers to what's installed.  There are some of the Lenovo Apps that will notify of newer versions when executed so that may save some time as well.

The download page for this update is up since a few days but there is no download available: http://support.lenovo.com/fr/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-edge-laptops/thinkpad-e555/do... And when you switch to another language like German or French the older version 1.14 is offered as downlaod. These bugs in your driver download section happen a lot, please fix them!

All of our Twists have an issue where the ambient light sensor isn't working correctly.  To fix we have to disable the adaptive brightness setting in Windows.  We're running Windows 8.1 Pro and Enterprise 64-bit.  Lenovo offers a fix via the Sensor Hub Firmware Update here:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS039684 Problem is that when attempting to install the firmware update, we receive a message to install the .NET 4.5.50709 Framework.  Using this article, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh925568(v=vs.110).aspx, we confirmed that .NET 4.5.51641 is the current version. We've tried installing via the UI and via command line, but no dice. Any ideas on how to get this firmware update to install?

Hi all , I have a Lenovo T410s for over 10 months plus. Inside is a Intel X18 G2 80GB SSD, model number is SSDSA1M080G2LE, firmware version 2CV102J6. Recently I 'feel' that it is getting slower plus some unexplained BSOD and restart so I was going to reformat the SSD and install Window 7 Pro 64bit. I googled and read most of the forum post I can find on TRIM features. It seem like we need to upgrade the firmware using Intel software. But there were several report that even if I set the T410s BIOS - AHCI mode to compatible before running the firmware upgrade, it would still fail. Have anyone done the firmware upgrade succesfully and let window 7 perform the TRIM natively? Is it wise to do so without the blessing of proper lenovo driver/firmware updates? If this is not possible or wise, then I guess i would have to run the Intel SSD Toolbox - Optimizer daily to do the Trim manually. Would love to hear any feedbacks. Thank you

Answer:Is it wise to update the firmware on Lenovo T410s Intel X18 G2 to support TRIM?

Most of time, it is better to upgrade your firmware. I would recommend you to upgrade it and see how it does.

Hi

I've got a computer that seems to be powering up, all the fans work but I am getting no display on the monitor.

Here's what I've tired.

Changing the monitor and all cables.
Changing out the video card.
Changing out the memory.
Chainging the hard drive.
Changin the power supply.

I get the same thing with all of these. So what is it?? The motherboard??

I had a few issues before this happened yesterday, the PC wouldn't power off at the "shut down" command the only way to turn it off was at the power point and it was also acting irratic sometimes restarting itself.

I tried to start the hard drive up in another computer but can't get past the manufacturers screen. But when I put a new hard drive in the computer I still get no display.

Anyone know what is going on??

Also one thing to add, I can't see any lights on the motherboard, usually I can see a green light on motherboards, but I can't see anything on this one.

Answer:PC powers up, but no display - no beeps

Please post your system specs, To include Make and model System if Big Box, or same info for the following if custom or home built, Mother Board (including Revision number), Processor (Exact Model Number), Ram, Video Card, Hdd(s), Optical Drive(s), Power Supply Manufacturer Model, Wattage and Amperage on the +12V Rails, OS, and any other peripherals installed on the motherboard.

My first thought would be the power supply. Fans running, CD Drawers openiing and closing, and a few lights on the front of the case does not mean it is booting. Do the Caps Lock and Num Lock lights on the Keyboard light up?

My Thinkpad (R51e) beeps once at startup and then powers back off. I must continue to press the power button several times before a successful startup occurs. I can't remember installing any changes before this problem started...not sure if it's hardware or software related. I'm running XP with SP2. Any ideas as to what's causing the problem? Thanks.

Answer:R51 Beeps once at startup and powers off

Welcome to the forum! According to HMM, the first thing you should try to do is to re-seat the LCD connector. Should that fail to resolve the issue, you'll be looking for a new LCD or system board. Good luck.

I'm working with a brand new PSU (Antec SmartPower 350w 24 pin) a brand new Ahtlon 64 x2 3800, and a brand new mobo (PC Chips A13G). I'm just trying to get a post and not having much luck. Right now I have 1 stick of ram in, the cpu and nothing else. No post. Have tried with no ram, still no post. Have tried all jumped settings, no post. Anyone have any ideas? This is my dad's system and I need to get it up and running asap. The only thing I did different with this is using an existing HD with an XP Pro install on it from a previous Mobo. I was assuming I could get to bios and do a clean install, but could have that messed anything up from the start?

Answer:No beeps, no video, but powers up

Hi There
You could try to use the jumper to reset the bios. With the power cord unplugged of course. And i'm sure you tried a different stick of ram. It's so hard at this point to figure out which it is without replacement parts to test with.

Hi, I installed the most recent firmware update (fwdphb07) and run into problems with my T450s: My displays (two attached via DP, the main display with DP 1.2) stay blank until the windows login screen shows up (no windows is starting screen). The problem is that I have a SSD password so the password dialog is not shown on the external screen. I downgraded the firmware to fwdphb06 (installed fwdphb03 before, because fwdphb06 does not allow for a direct downgrade) and everything works fine again. @Lenovo: can you please fix this issue - if you need more information please contact [email protected] users with the same issue: try to downgrade the FW Have a nice dayMichael

I have a server (Intel Xeon Quad Core x 2 4 GB RAM) and after a recent power outage it won't turn on. The ethernet port as well as two lights on the motherboard are lit.

When I plug it in, after about five seconds it starts to boot(because the BIOS is set to autoboot). It gives the usual one beep and the fans spin for about a second then it powers off.

When I remove all the memory it it gives POST error beeps and the power stays on.

I've tried removing the graphics card and the onboard PCI RAID controller.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Server beeps then powers off on startup

Are all of the fans working correctly?

Can you get into the BIOS before it powers off?

Anyone got any idea what might be wrong here:
When I turn the computer on I get a continuous beep and then the computer powers down.
I have tried:

1. removing the memory : still the same result
2. replacing the memory : still the same result
3. removing the graphics card : still the same result - no change in beeps so its not even getting as far as checking for a graphics card...
4. replacing the graphics card : still the same result

The computer is quite old : Abit KT7A-RAID - Award BIOS
Any help would be appreciated,

John.

Answer:Switch computer on it then beeps and powers down

Hi Scorpuk,

A continuous beep at startup could mean a faulty Power supply, system board, or keyboard problem. It could also indicate the video memory or system memory is not seated properly or faulty. Some on board memory maybe designated for the video memory if it's not a plug in card. It is possible that the first 64K of memory is faulted, causing no boot, and a quick check of the BIOS should reveal some clues.

I just got a laptop from a friend of mine who said if I could fix it, it's mine. Got it today, as a matter of fact. It is...a...Dell Inspiron...lessee...E1505 with 2GB of DDR2 RAM, and that's about as much as I know about it, aside from the fact that it was designed for Windows XP Media Center Edition.

She had just recently had it in the shop, but a few months ago one of her girls knocked it off of a coffee table, and that is when the issue started. It charges and powers up (i.e.: The power indicator lights up and you can hear the CD/DVD-RW drive kick on), the hard drive spools up, but doesn't seem to do anything, and nothing else really happens, although you can feel the heatsink warm up over the course of a few minutes, though the fan doesn't spin. Now, I'm pretty good with desktops, but as far as I know, laptops are a different animal in a few respects. I haven't opened the laptop other than to check the amount of RAM in the system, and pull the hard drive to check for broken platters (no high-tech maracca, by the way ), but that's hardly invasive surgery.

So, I guess I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to save this laptop, or am I just better off burying it?

note: i have no vcard, also tried reseating cmos. checked the cpu hsf normal temp

Answer:powers on but no display, boot, beeps

As you know, something burned out (literally).
The most likely suspects are the power supply and the motherboard (a component on the motherboard).
If you can borrow a compatible power supply from someone you can hook it up to test.

If it is not the power supply then you are most likely looking at a new motherboard. And since this is 7 years old there is a good chance you will not find a new replacement.
It could be time for a new (or new used) system.

Hi,

I've recently purchased an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti and it doesn't seem to be cooperating with my PC.

I have searched the internet extensively as well as made several phone calls to the Alienware support team to no avail.

Here is everything that I have tried:

1. Tested my old graphics card again to check if there was any hardware damage (there wasn't, it worked fine).

2. Made sure I was connecting my new card properly (I was).

3. Attempted to update the BIOS. I was NOT able to do this. Upon trying to run the executable files provided on the Dell website I would get the following errors:

A06 and A07 Update: Please run the application again! (looped if I tried again)

A14 Update: You must update to A06, then A07 before updating to A14! (isn't that just dandy? this update however seemed to work properly, it just requires the previous versions to proceed.)
In an effort to fix these errors, I performed a clean installation of Windows 10 Home and updated it to the most recent version. Even after this, the errors persisted.

Emachine E442-V634 doesn't boot up anymore. Power button lights up, dvd player opens and close fine, screen remains black, no beeps of any kind, cpu fan on. It was working fine and a few night ago shut the computer down for the night. Turned it on the next morning and this situation happened. After a few attempts it started and worked fine, made a backup of anything important , just in case. That evening went to turn on the computer and same thing happened and was never able to restart it again. Screen remains black and won't even boot to the bios. Harddrive seems to be "clicking" when I try to boot up. Tried draining the power by holding the power button down without any power going to the computer. Removed ram and reboot, no beeps. Tried one ram modul at a time, no results. Boot with hard drive removed, no beeps or bios. Took the computer apart , no dust on fan. Computer is only two years old. Tried hooking it up to another monitor, still nothing. I am at a lost to what the problem might be. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don t think it is the hard drive since the bios screen won t even come up. Western Digital 320 GB, AMD V140, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. How do you find a solution to this problem.

Answer:Emachine powers on but screen remains black, no beeps

I replaced a clicking hard drive the other day, it means they are failing usually. Good thing you backed up stuff. Is the video card on board or a separate card. If so, power off, remove and reinsert the video card see what that does or if you have an onboard vga as well, then try removing the card and using the onboard. Even if the hard drive were failing, you should get a bios screen with it removed, which is why I am wondering about the video itself or possibly the board if all else checks out. What does it do with everything unplugged, no hard drives, floppy drives or Cd roms etc plugged in?To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!message edited by HopperRox

Can not boot Pavilion 23-b319. Powers up to a black screen with NO beep sounds. This started as an occasional non-boot symptom, but now will not boot at all.All other functions appear normal:  power supply light remains on, power button lights up, fan is constant, hard drive spins, optical drive can open and disks sound as spinning. What I have tried: Power supply brick has been tested.Hard drive has been pulled (for data recovery) and is confirmed working.CMOS has been reset, battery replaced with new. When single 8GB RAM stick is removed, I get 5 beeps, a pause and patten is repeated.  Can anyone familiar with this model  confirm if these beeps are indicating ram failure or motherboard failure? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Pavilion 23-b319 Powers up to Black screen, no beeps

@q59, welcome to the forum. The first component that comes to mind when I see these symptoms is the power supply unit (PSU).  However, here is a guide that will help you troubleshoot the hardware to see if it is working properly.  Some of the diagnostics are done from UEFI so the computer doesn't have to boot. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hey hey,

My Dell PC has been working fine, but I wanted to install a old DVD Burner; it's connected with a Sata Cable, so I had to install a device to the PCI Slot that accepts Sata cables. I have another Dell PC (exact same computer) that had the parts that I needed in it, so I switched them out, installed the DVD-Burner, plugged everything back in and powered on the computer. It now beeps 6 times, and nothing appears on the monitor - it keeps a steady yellow light. I heard that 6 beeps is keyboard error, but i don't see why it would've "all of the sudden" started that, and how a keyboard error would keep everything else from working.

I unplugged everything that I installed and tried to turn it on, and it gives me the same problem. Everything was fine, then after the failed installation, it's all messed up now. Besides removing and replacing the ram, does anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this ANNOYING problem? I highly appreciate it, later!

-Jeremy

Answer:My computer powers on, but beeps 6x and noting appears on monitor; WHY!?

I'm setting up my new P70 with tripple boot (W7/10 and RedHat) on 2 Nvme's (works fine so far). Once and a while I got beeps on startup (3 short, 2 more beeps and 3 short beeps. The manual states that this is a PCI resource problem. But I did not get it constantly. Usually, it popped up during system setup, but after I reset the EFI/BIOS and after a few reboots it went away on its own. But know I always get it. I did a few re-sets, cleared the keys to no avail. Any idea how to get rid of the beeps ? Do I really have to send the whole machine back to lenovo ? In my opinion, the EFI is totally crap on this machine.

So I have this Dell Mini Inspiron 1018 not in correct working condition. As stated in title:
-Powers on.
-No monitor, completely blank.
-Not hearing any kind of beeping.

Any ideas on a solution?

Answer:Dell Mini Inspiron 1018: Powers On - Blank Screen - No Beeps

Sounds like a display issue, such as a bad LCD or connector.
Try plugging it into a monitor to rule out the possibility of a bad video card.

Answer:It is possible to Update Lenovo Ideapad Y510p processor i5 to i7

hi Nkama1993

Welcome to the Forums.

Although it's possible to replace the CPU on the Y510p (see page 61 of the HMM), upgrading the CPU is not cost effective as you may also need to replace the motherboard (upon looking at the spare parts, the 37W mainboard for the i5 dual-core CPU is different from the 47W mainboard for i7 quad-core CPU).

Considering the price of the i7 CPU and a compatible mainboard, I think it'll be much better to invest on a new Core-i7 system.

Hello once again!

I've had this y560p for about 8 months now, and I knew it didn't support switchable graphics at the time (while it could), but I read in several places that it's possible for a software update to enable us to use it later on.

I've been searching all around the interwebs for a possible update, but maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place.

Does anyone know if such an update exists, and if so where I can get it, or if it's not out yet will it ever even be possible?

Many thanks!

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y560p switchable graphics update?

Perhaps just try updating the GPU drivers? That's what controls the switchable graphics on my laptop.

Hello!I got a Lenovo IdeaPad U350, it should be model # 2963-47U (specs. here) with half-size mini-pcie wireless adapter with Broadcom BCM4312 chip which supports only .11bg. This card connects to antennas by two feedlines. And I want to upgrade it with Intel 5100 which is .11agn and costs only about $6 on eBay. There is empty full-size slot for the card and even two unused feedlines that go right to the point. Sorry I have no photos right now.So I have two questions:Shold I detach old wireless card before install new one? Cause I know that if both of them plug to the same antennas they can burn each others receivers; Is there some other convenient wireless cards with 2 uFL connectors with is cheaper, better or more reliable? I actually not need .11a (5GHz range) as much as just .11n support. Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad U350 wireless card update

Hello anyone!

There is Ideapad U350 SU4100 version with Broadcom wifi-card (.11g) in half-sized miniPCI-e slot and one empty miniPCI-e slot with unused pair of radio cables. So I bought full-sized Intel 5100 agn to enhance wireless bandwidth.

But the second slot seems to be totaly disabled, both cards don't work in that slot and display no presence in OS (Win8). On the other hand they both work fine in the first (half-sized) slot, but I have to keep Intel car with my hand .

Is there a way to turn on second pci-e slot or I have to find another half-sized card?

Hi.I have a problem with my battery not charging (at 1% left and power connected) and get an error message that my battery is not recognized by Lenovo, even though it's the same battery I've had for 4 years (the laptop is as good as new, and I don't want to change it).Apparently, a BIOS update should work, according to several web forums, and it worked when I had the same problem some time ago. But since then I have updated to Windows 10 and I can't find any BIOS updates for my laptop which is compatible with windows 10. And those that are compatible with windows 10 are not compatible with my laptop. Hi,I recently refreshed my Laptop and it reverted me back to Windows 8. Since I updated to Windows 8.1 last year, It was a no brainer to update back to it. However whenever I try to do it, It gets to "Setting up" with the Lenovo logo and when it gets to the 80% or 82%, it overheats and shuts down and it reverts and I have to install the update all over again. I have a fan on while I wait for it to update and It makes not difference. Any ideas that could help me?Thanks.

Earlier today, I tried out Lenovo Motion Control. I was quite satisfied with it, though it though it had a minor lack of content. So I went to the software developers website in hope that they might be able to help me. I noticed a lot of features that weren't in the one I got. There was no download link, so I decided to look in Lenovo Support. There wasn't anything there, so now I'm here at the forum, in hope that someone could provide with me a way to update the motion control or provide with me a link to a updated version. It doesn't matters if it's Lenovo or a Eyesight version. Thank you if you're willing to answer. c:

Hello, yesterday I tryed to update the bios of my 450p but at part 9 of 37 the computer hang up.Now when I turn on the pc nothing happens... Windows do not boot and the monitor is black. Can you give some ideas what I can do now?

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad U450p - Bios Update failed

Looks like you have phoenix bios, so you can look at this topic https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-and-Z-series/Lenovo-ideaPad-Y560-BIOS-Recovery/td-p/37791... .Though it's for different laptop model, technically these bioses are similar and that restoration method should work for you. NOTE! that doesn't mean that you can take bios file from y560, you should download updater for your laptop, open it with 7-zip and use bios rom file from here. Flashing bios from different model will DEFINITELY BRICK your laptop. Also, look at this:http://www.bios-mods.com/bios-recovery/phoenix-bios-recovery/http://www.google.com/search?q=phoenix+bios+recovery

I couple days ago I alowed my idea pad to update windows 8. The next time I launched it I got to the desktop but then the screen would flash on and off forever. I downloaded the program to update the drivers because I assumed it was the drivers. After only being able to do anything in safe mode I booted it up but I couldn't get the drivers program onto the computer because safe mode doesn't let you do alot.  I then decided to just do a reset within the windows recovery program. I pressed save personal documents and reset. Now when I turn on my idea pad it just shows a black screen with the loading circle spinning forever

Hello,I have a Lenovo Ideapad G460, I am trying to upgrade my bios but it failed. What I did is I had downloaded the bios update from the lenovo site and run the update program and followed all the instructions. During the process of flashing, the application encountered an error. I restarted the laptop and tried Insyde Bios Crisis Recovery using the Fn + B. After several attempts to find the correct filename, the last attempt to flash gave me a series of beeps while flash disks reads, then afterwards, it had powered down the laptop. When I tried to turn on the laptop, the screen is still blank, and now I  am trying to do the crisis recovery again, but now when I press the Fn + B combination, no beeps occurs and flash disk doesn't blink, the fan is spinning at full speed and shut itself down after 10 seconds. I already tried many times already and still gave me the same result. I had already exhausted all methods for flashing but no luck on it. Any help would be appreciated to save my laptop.

I dont usually make updates, but when i do...I opened the Lenovo Companion and went for the drivers updates. There was 3 updates: WLAN (I think), Bluetooth, and a BIOS (4WCN29WW) update. I installed the lenovo programs needed to download the updates, as the Lenovo Companion recommended, and started updating the drives. At the BIOS update i was prompted that this update was for the Lenovo 300/500 series and proceeded. After the update, my notebook is not starting. It stops after the bios, windows gives this stopcode: "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE", restarts and tries to repair the initialization, wich doenst work. Hi everyone, new here.  Had a quick question that I didn't see an answer for based on a few pages of looking through the forum.I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 on windows 8.1 with no touch screen.  The dedicated graphics card is the GTX660M.NVIDIA releases updates all the time on their website.  With the particular graphics setup on this laptop, what is the best way to update the drivers?  Based on the drivers on the Lenovo website it would indicate that the drivers have not been updated since 2013.  Should I download and install the mobile graphics driver from the NVIDIA website?  I have recently added a SSD to my rig, so I did a factory reset on the laptop and proceeded to follow all of the updates since then.  I do believe the current graphics driver I have installed has not been updated from the factory reset unless there have been updates via windows update that I was unaware of.  Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y580 graphics driver update process?

I have several games that just stutter massively when trying to run them as well without the latest drivers.  This could be a result of either old drivers or the laptop not switching over to the dedicated graphics card.  Sorry to bump my own thread, but help would be appreciated regarding the best way to upgrade the graphics drivers.  Thanks!

Hello, I recently bought the Lenovo Yoga 510-IKB, and when I would flip the screen, it would automatically rotate the screen. After a bunch of windows 10 updates, this function was gone. I checked regedit, and the SensorPresent was set to 0. And I can't set rotate lock anymore, anywere.  I set SensorPresent to 1 manually, but that didn't change anything either. Only yesterday I got an update from Lenovo for the bios, and I am now running V.2SCN26WW. In lenovo companion I cannot find the flip option anymore. Since they used to be in Lenovo Settings. But that app is gone now. In device manager I deleted the HID-sensorcollection v2 so that it could reinstall itself, but it didn't change anything either. Not sure what I am supposed to do now besides returning the laptop to the store.

I restarted my computer this morning and it installed an update. When it rebooted, it said there was a problem and began a diagnosing/repair loop. It came up with several options, including restarting the computer (which I did multiple times) and resetting/repairing startup. Nothing worked and it just kept looping back to the original screen. I do not want to reset my entire computer and I do not remember when (or if) I ever saved a backup copy. I just purchased this computer in February and I desperately need it for school. Please let me know what I can do!

Answer:Repair Loop after Update, Lenovo Ideapad U430 Touch

hi Shreenith,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Try Turning on the Computer and wait till you see any sign of Windows loading, this kicks in right after the Lenovo Screen.
Hold the Power button down to force shutdown the system.

Repeat this step until you get a Recovery environment.
You could get this Screen and access the System Restore.
If that did not help you can go for Refresh PC

Let me know your findings
Cheers!

Hello everybody,I've signed in this community right now. I have a laptop ideapad 500s-13 for a month, with windows 10 pre installed. the CPU is core i3-6100, Intel Graphics 520, Samsung SSD 128Gb, 4 GB ram. After some sumulative update of Win 10 1607 anniversary update, my laptop couldn't boot, it remains in black screen mode with circle of dots rotating but it can't enter in the system, even if i disconnected all the connection and USB cable. I've tried to boot in Safe mode, it works!! but not in normal mode!!So, what I did was to enter in Safe mode and disable the Intel Graphics 520 Driver from device manager (i don't remember the exact name). I restarted the PC, surprisingly it could enter in the system without any problem, but i couldn't change the brighness of the screen and some other feature related to screen. The problem cames up the exact moment when i tried to enable the graphic driver from pc device manager ,the screen turned black with only cursor. So I think the main problem is the incompatibility of the win10 and the intel graphics driver. My current version of intel HD graphic 520 driver is 21.20.16.4550, driver date 11/11/2016. Please, do you have any solutions??? ps. sorry for any mistake in the text, english is not my native language.  thank you in advance

So before the other day, when I did a Windows 10 update, my browsers were running smoothly. I disabled the meta refresh for Edge, and I was actually starting to like it. Now after the update it seems that every window I open in Edge, Firefox, and Chrome takes forever to load and doesn't respond half the time. Sometimes the browser just crash and can't be opened at all unless I restart. My drivers say they're all up to date. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know a fix or what to check? (Oh, and it's not my internet connection. My windows desktop, my surface, and my Windows phone as well as my partners iPhone and MacBook are all running just fine.)

Lenovo G570Model 4334 Hi Whenever i switch on my laptop it stays on the Lenovo start up screen for about 30 seconds, and then powers off. During the 30 seconds the laptop fans runs louder than usual but nothing else happens. Ocassionally it does get past that stage but then takes a long time on the 'starting windows' screen. I've used the onekey recovery to return it to my backup and even returned it to the factory settings but the problem persists. I'm unsure of what to next and how the problem can be solved. Any Suggestions? Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo G570 - Stays on Lenovo start up screen, then powers off

try to load safe mode when you see lenovo logo at start-up. ( f8 )if it works, press f8 again to load "last known good configuration"otherwise, check your ram sticks ( remove/replace/swap ) and check if your hdd is working properly.do you have any heating issue by the way? did you make changes recently?

Is it too late to block the creators update if it's already spamming for me to restart my laptop to apply the update? Of course, like the proud usual Microsoft tradition, it installed itself without my consent whatsoever, despite best efforts at even unplugging the power cord after I go to sleep.

I've heard nothing but bad news about creators update, stuff like wifi not working, games incompatible, freezes, etc etc, and I'm not a 3D artist, I couldn't care less about any of its features. I haven't restarted my laptop in like a week (I put it to sleep at night) and now I was thinking about restarting it, but once this creators update installs itself I highly doubt I can revert it.

Answer:Creators update spamming me to restart nonstop, too late to block it?

Hi, you should be able to revert within 10 days. If you have Win 10 Pro you can defer it for quite a long time, as I have.

If, as we strongly and repeatedly recommend, you use disk imaging routinely (e.g. Macrium reflect (free), you should always be able to restore a previously working version of Windows or any disk or partition without technical help- even if your disk fails.

I have just upgraded mine to the CU today, having deliberately delayed that- as I have PRO I can defer upgrades, and I had updates set to Notify only- so no update ever took me by surprise.
(You can find out how to do that via one of the many tutorials here about how to upgrade to Windows 10, or use Winaero's free tweaker with full explanation which does the same thing).

For most people the CU works fine- especially with latest updates. But you can run into problems upgrading if you have certain hardware, partition problems, or problems with certain drivers.

By using disk imaging and the methods above you can protect yourself, and attempt an upgrade being more than 99% certain you will be safe.

My preferred method is to update my disk image, download the relevant ISO, create a bootable medium, disconnect any unnecessary peripherals, disable or uninstall security software, and one program that modifies the GUI that conflicts with an upgrade. I make sure there's enough free space on my system disk, and at least 500Mb unallocated space on it.

I disconnect from the internet then upgrade manually.

I have an ideapad u310 ultrabook500GB Hdd32GB ssdcore i3running windows 7 I have power options configured so that it goes to sleep when i close the lid. That is how i always put it to sleep (i never press the power button or use the start menu sleep option)The machine will stay 'asleep' for several hours (white status led on front is blinking). Then at some point (6 or 8 hours later) it will power itself off (led status light is out) I have looked through all of the windows power options and lenovo energy management options to see if I could find the setting that is controlling this behavior but have not turned anything up yet. I googled it quite a bit but have not found anyone else describe the same issue. I have seen this happen while plugged in and not plugged in. When i turn it back on, the battery has charge remaining. I had thought at first that the battery had become critically low and it powered off or went into hibernation to protect itself but that does not seem to be what is happening. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this happen. It does not really seem to matter right now since even when it powers off, it boots windows in just a couple of seconds. However the system is still brand new and brand new systems tend to boot very fast. So Im just wondering if in the future i will see boot times degrade. Thanks!

Answer:ideapad u310 powers off while sleeping

Hi Iso,

same behavior with my U310, there is also no hibernate option to select,
instead after sleeping for a couple of hours, the machine hibernates automatically.

It's a new feature.

Hi My daughter's laptop screen was broken last month. It was new but obviously not covered under warranty. I bought a new screen and managed to replace it fairly easily using the instruction manual.  It's worked perfectly for the last 3 weeks until the power dock fell inside when she tried to charge it. I took it apart again to reseat it. Now it's not starting at all. It powers on for two seconds and dies.  Im sure all connections are good. I've tried starting with just one stick of RAM and I've left the CMOS battery out for a while.  Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone. Few days ago my laptop has made some update itself. And now I got few problems. First I noticed that my Google Chrome started to NOT respond. Then I couldn't even open any Folder on my PC. I tried to reset it with 10 second pressing on/off button. But nothing has changed. On the second day when I tried to zoom in on my Touch Screen, noticed that it doesn't work. Neither does keyboard on screen working. I have reinstalled my PC. Waited for half a day.... and it showed ALPS Apoint2k isn't working. I have tried everything. Downloading new drivers from manufacturer, scaning Windows and all that. Today I found out that there is no Tablet PC settings on my laptop anymore. When writing in Windows Search TABLET PC SETTINGS, it comes that " Tablet Buttons are not installed on this computer" "For more information, check the documentation that came with your computer or go to the computer manufacturer's website" Can anyone help me,please?((

I bought this wireless/bluetooth card for my Ideapad S415T and the only drivers for it were for Windows 7.  One solution I found said to run the Win 7 drivers in compatibility mode.  I wasn't satisfied with doing that so I hunted for the updated drivers for Win 8.1 and found them.  I have provided the link at the bottom of this page. (Make sure you are plugged into your router by an ethernet cable to access internet) 1. When you get to the page scroll down until you see the blue links click on either the link for Win 8.1 32 or 64 bit.  If you are not sure which version of Windows you have, go to your desktop open Control Panel, click on System and Security, find System and click on it. Under the System heading on this page you will find if you are 32 or 64 bit. Keep this window open as you will need it in step 3.  2. Once you have downloaded the Zip file go to where it is in Downloads under This PC.  Right click on the folder file, which has a zipper on it, highlight Extract All.  This will undo the zip file into a separate file that is open.  Leave it in the download folder.   3. Go back to your desktop. On the left hand side of the window you left open in step 1 look for Device Manager click on this.  Give it a minute as it opens the list.  If you just installed this piece of hardware it may show up under Other Network and will have a yellow triangle on it with an exclamation mark in it.   ... I would like to get some second opinions on this problem, so I can be sure there is nothing I am missing/haven't considered.  First off, this laptop is not too old -- it was purchased in late 2012 (August) from Lenovo's website. I had very few problems with it, except for a few minor issues like the Touchzone black screen on startup (fixed by disabling that program) and a bluescreen when using newer graphics drivers (fixed by using older drivers certified for this specific model). About six months from purchase, the hard drive began to fail, and it was sent in under warranty to be replaced. Again, this was annoying, but a faulty hard drive requiring replacement still isn't too out of the ordinary. Within the past month or so, I have begun having issues that again I suspect are hardware related. This laptop is frequently used for graphics-intensive tasks; I regularly run Photoshop with hardware acceleration enabled, and play several games on occasion (the bulk of which consists of League of Legends and Warframe). While doing anything using the Nvidia GPU, the laptop has begun completely shutting down within a half hour. This problem has started occurring sooner and more frequently than when it first showed up. Oddly, the issue seems to be most prevalent when running League of Legends, which is a fairly low-spec game to begin with and should not cause immense stress when running. Even so, after starting a match, the framerate will start at a stable 60 a... Read more

Answer:IdeaPad Y480 spontaneously powers off when using Nvidia graphics

dude ,warning!! do not use the nvidia graphics card on any video intensive games.as your default.... I used win7 software to changed the graphics card default from "integrated (intel)" to "Nvidia graphics "... after a week windows was displaying an error " your video setting seems to be slowing down your system do you want to set it to basic"..i chose "ignore" after the second week my screen turned white and my computer would not even boot to bios... I took my computer to lenovo service center and the tech said my mother board is fried it would take 1 to 3 months to get a replacement mother board. the tech recomended i buy a new computer since the cost of repair would be like buying a new computerthe best video card setting is set to auto "let the system decide" how it wants to use the nvdia graphics cardI am assuming here that the nvidia graphics card is only used to cover any over head work load from the intel integrated graphis and is not really supposed to be used as your default video card... to do so means overloading the system and frying the mother board..again I am assuming here....but I dont want you to have the same problem I have... my Y480 is junked

I've had the laptop since last Friday. I've updated drivers and have been installing a few games on the device. I've been installing a ton of games the past two days while I'm at school (great download speeds from steam and origin) and have been having issues when I try to run said games. The laptop has a SLI setup with the GT 755M. I've noticed that when I've tried to game lately on the laptop that I've had pretty poor luck. Games seem to crash with frequency, with only a few different times that I thought had narrowed down to SLI being enabled or Anti-Aliasing, but after it crashing a few minutes ago not long after getting into a Team Fortress 2 server, I now don't think that is the case. What might cause this? I have the battery removed at the present since it's Nearly charged and seems pointless for me to leave it in while I'm running off the 170W adaptor. Could this be an issue where the adaptor doesn't supply enough power and needs to draw additional power? I don't feel that heat or anything else like that could be the cause because there's no warming and the system powers back up just fine. I'm going to re-attempt to play a few games that crashed immediately (Battlefield 3) and see if this changes anything. I love the laptop otherwise and really hope that this isn't and indicator of a more serious issues.

Hi all,I'm in the need of restoring my Ideapad A10 model 20323 (loaned it to a friend who - genius - erased the internal sdcard to install a rom without backing up the disk).Nothing serious I said: it's simply a matter of downloading the firmware from Lenovo servers.Surprisingly, I couldn't find anything.I realize that the Ideapad A10 is an old model, but I think that Lenovo servers are big eneough to host the firmware of a discontinued model. Moreover, the netbook always worked well: so what should I do ? Throw it away only because of lack of such an easy remedy like downloading the restore image ?I am simply asking for what I paid for: the ability to use the product I purchased.I am confident that Lenovo will soon resolve this issue and will upload the firmware.

Answer:Firmware for Ideapad A10

Sorry, realized that i posted in the wrong section; can a mod move it in the right one please ?

The laptop sometimes boots up when fully charged (whether connected or not connected with power cord) with display working fine and other times (at random) when turned on will show that power is on (indicator light is turned on on side of laptop) but no display. Screen is blank and no sound is heard. Again, this is completely random. I can follow the exactly same process (always when fully charged). Sometimes the screen works fine; other times it's black and never displays. Please help.

Answer:Lenova Yogo 700-11ISK (ideapad) powers up but with blank screen

Hi, Carol ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You can also start by flushing out all static, remove AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

Installing new OS might help, but I wouldn't count on it to fix the problem. It is probably some power supply to screen issue or bad LCD cable, might be completely wrong though.

Try updating the BIOS

Putting together a build for a friend, however, I believe the motherboard may have been damaged or was damaged upon my taking part in the build. I assembled the parts, a 430w thermaltake psu, an asus mobo, e5200 intel processor, western digital hard drive, 2 gigs of GSkill, ati hd 4850 gpu and an LG dvd drive.

Posted, gave an error message about cpu fan error, I google it, it seemed to be relatively harmless. While in the bios the computer's signal disappeared, I attempted a reboot to no avail. No error codes, cpu fan stopped spinning. Removed memory, no error code, removed 4850, no error code, case fan connected to the motherboard spins when powered on, motherboard shows green light, no signal detected,

I tested the processor in another rig, and it worked fine, and the cpu fan spun fine. Tested another power supply with said motherboard and the motherboard fan would not spin and it would not post, and no error codes. Is my motherboard dead? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, Yesterday, using Lenovo Solution Center 2.4.003, I upgraded the firmware (since it was marked critical) of my USB-3 dock in my office. Now I cannot connect anymore with the network. Now and then I see few blinks and monitoring with wireshark shows that the dock transmit data, but does not receive anything. The adapter is configured with fixed IP addres, so we do not use DHCP. I see ARP(Who has ...?) request going out, and nothing returns. What is going here? BTW, when using a USB-Ethernet adapter on the same cable everything works. So it is NOT a cabling/network problem. Also, before upgarding everything was working. Do you have a suggestion? For instance how to revert back to the old firmware?BTW, how do I see what version firmware is in the docking station? Thanks,Jos

Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P.  When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode). According to Energy Management, battery status is fine.  After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue?  Thanks for your help..!

Just curious, it doesn't really affect my life in any way.  Except, of course, I would like better support from lenovo for open-source linux efforts.  I am interested in feedback from the designers as I'm interested in business and engineering and that sort of thing.   Thinkwiki reports that the sl series has an ideapad firmware, which explains why thinkpad_acpi in linux doesn't work right and various other things like shock protection.  So, I guess it's similar to an Ideapad U330?  They share the same intel chipset. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/CategoryL300  and...http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=68882&sid=69c068595f0d142f96bfb9faa6bb2d8f   If this is true, why does lenovo need two firmware codebases for the same chipset (T series also uses GM45), and why did they borrow from the ideapad line instead of other thinkpads to develop the firmware for sl-series?  Interesting, no?  Isn't it extra cost? Or do they have competing BIOS developers working for them?  Also, will this affect thinkpad lines in the future? if this is top-secret or something, I understand.  P.S.  I really like my SL300, and I'm comfortable thinking that it's a Thinkpad, but I can see where some people differ on that.  I don't want to have that argument. Message Edited by garytr23 on 12-07-2008 11:35 AM
