HDD-Caddy for Ideadpad S10e

Question: HDD-Caddy for Ideadpad S10e

Hello,Today I've received my Ideapad S10e (the SSD-Version NS846GE9). Now I'd like to install a hdd into the empty slot, but I've noticed that there's no caddy to tighten the hdd in the slot. In the other Ideapad Versions I saw a caddy which is holding the hdd. My question is: Is it usual that there is no caddy in the hdd slot in the SSD version? Where can I get a caddy for my Ideapad? Do the caddies from the Thinkpads fit in? Because then I would buy one since I cant find any caddy for Ideapads. Greetings, gekko

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi out there, anybody else with this issue? My S10e was bought around August 2009, barely transported, and if, with the original Lenovo Neoprene sleeve.Much of the chrome on the hinge caps (both sides) is peeling of just by touching it with the finger!

Answer:S10e hinge caps chrome coming off - END OF SERVICE FOR S10e?

Does not look good. Service partners neither in Germany (where it was bought some 6 month ago and bears a 2 year warranty) nor in South America (where I happen to be now for longer time) have the parts available for delivery. I wonder what is it good for if part #´s are available if parts are not... Part # 45N3863.http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=Migr-71077

Hello, I have managed to copy/clone my SSD with EASEUS partition master, after which my D rive (160 Gb) became C, and vice versa. Than for some STUPID reason I used shipped recovery disc to revert SSD 4 Gb to original, because I did Windows update and I wanted to have factory setting as backup, which I did. Than in same matter I used Partition master to copy disc C to D and than trough bios remove SSD HD from boot. Now here is the problem, windows does not start after I exclude the SSD HD from boot list and my screen just turn black with _ in top right corner. Also I tried to use Partition doctor from EASEUS, but when I use fixboot option result is same.I also bought same netbook for my friend and I did the cloning procedure no problem with PM from EASEUS, I even copied entire Preload from my friends S10e and Copy/Paste it on D on my S10e, but that did not bring much luck.Btw the "Recovery DIscs" which came with my netbook are for S9e not S10e, could it be that it did some thing that messed up my S10e so I can't clone it and use as boot drive?Anyone with similar problem or solution please help, I almost throw it out of window today when all I tried for past three days failed-Thnx in advance!DANKObananko

Hi Guys, I want to know if it's possible to asseble the SSD in the Y570. Some models of the Y570 have already included a SSD.But I want to buy a model without SSD. So that I can buy another SSD and assemble it. This one here:http://www.amazon.de/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-mSATA/dp/B004I8YM4A/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header Is it possible? Will it work? Is there space?

Answer:IdeadPad Y570 - SSD additional?

I bought the Lenovo IdeaPad Y570-2349 which comes with an SSD + HDD then what I did was, remove the HDD, and put in my own SSD which is a Kingston KC100 120 GB SATA-III SSD which is faster than the bundled one since the ubndled one is only SATA-IIthis way, I have the luxury of having 2 SSDs because as you are aware, SSDs are limited in sizes at this moment

I've had a Lenovo Ideapad Y570 for about a year and a few weeks ago the screen would fuzz up at random times. The picture would freeze then slowly fade to white. However after a little bit of adjustment the screen would return to normal and everything would function normally. About a week ago when the screen fuzzed it would not return to normal after adjustment but stay fuzzed. I can get the screen to unfreeze by putting pressure on the top left of the frame in the back and also putting pressure a few inches to the right from the front. Is this a screen issue? Should i just replace the screen or is this something else?

Hi, \i got myself one of them lenovo ideapad y500's about a year ago, great system! but atm it is only displaying the Lenovo logo when you press the power button... no loading wheel at all... Here are some things that started to happen before this came to be1. Teledo Tunneling pseudo interface wasnt working properly2. Intel RST technology was saying my sata disk has been removed then it would try to connect it3. above problem came with windows freezing up (graphical issue prolly), I could move my mouse and hear stuff in the background, but i would think this problem is because of problem number 2 4. RECENT problem I've been having is that when i press the power button i would only get it to the blckscreen with the lenovo logo on it... and the little loading circle would pop up... now it does not... This also doesnt make the Novo OneKey recovery button not work at all and just bring me up to the lenovo logo with no loading circle.... i cannot get into the bios, with any f keys Please help

I picked up my laptop, in the middle of streaming a video this weekend and it just went black. The battery was fully charged and plugged in, but hitting the power button or the onekey recovery did nothing. It was hundreds of dollars for Staples/BestBuy to even diagnose, let alone resolve the issue. Based on what I told them, they indicated that it was more than likely that my motherboard went out. I replaced the motherboard and turned on the computer today, and was extatic to see the power lights on... Only one problem... No screen display. I thought that I had re-assembled everything as it was, but I am at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks in advance.

Answer:Power but no display... please help x570 Ideadpad

Hi Compubon,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.

If your laptop fails to start, before you assume the problem is related to hardware failure, however, you should first confirm that the cause is not related to a faulty connection.  Please follow the below instructions: 1 .Remove the AC adapter from the laptop. Close the lid to the laptop and flip the computer over, so that the bottom is facing up. Make sure that the battery pack is installed to the appropriate compartment and is locked or screwed in place.  2 .Turn the laptop over once again and attach one end of the AC adapter to the power jack, located on the side of the laptop. Plug the AC adapter into the wall.  3 .Confirm that the AC cord is securely attached to the power adapter. If your AC adapter is plugged into a surge protector, make sure that the surge protector is plugged into the wall and that the power switch is in the "on" position.  4 .Open the lid, then press the "Power" button. If a yellow or red light near the base of the laptop begins to flash but the laptop does not power on, you may need to replace your AC adapter or the power jack on your computer. If no lights appear, you may need to replace the battery or the motherboard.

You can Click here to HMM (Hardware maintenance manual) for more information about system.

Hope this helps

Hello, Recently I scanned my Z470 for spyware and virus, the scanner (SuperAntiSpyware) detected and deleted some apparently infected files, after that I had to reboot my laptop and when it started again, the next message appeared regarding Lenovo Energy Management "The program can't start because HookLib.dll is missing. Try to reinstall the program to fix this problem". I tried reinstalling the driver several times but as soon as I reboot my laptop, the message keeps showing. I looked for Hooklib.dll and turns out that it is some kind of spyware? I have not been able to download it and I'm not sure whether is some kind of trap or a valid .dll file. Is there any way to fix the trouble? Thanks!!

Hi,  I am experiencing problems with my computer. For the past couple of monts my computer would take really long to boot. Initlially it would take a couple of minutes to get to the POST/BIOS. Once the computer turned on it will stay on without any problems (no blue screen, etc). Now the computer won't even get to the Lenovo screen. You can hear the fans working really loud and you can also make the keyboard light turn on and off. I have tried pressing the power button to discharge the computer, I have reseated ram and tried other ram and I have changed the hard drive. I'm pretty sure it is a motherboard problem. I'm out of warranty which is a bummer. Can anyone tell me where can I get a new motherboard or if I can bring it to a service center to get it replaced. How much will motherboard replacement usually cost? I live in New York City.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have tried all the suggested solution from different forums but still its not helping me. I have called customer care and they are proposing to go for service center as it may be motherboard issue since NoVo button also not working. I dont know how PC given for sale without validating hardware. I have checked with service center they are asking 10K charge for replacement of motherboard as my warranty is expired. Do i really need to pay 10K for their hardware issue. Hope here i wil get some suggestions and as I am in india now so not sure I will be getting the same motherboard in india.   Thanks

Answer:IdeadPad z580, Not able to enter into bios

Hi vikpatel,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

If using the Novo button or FN + F2 on restart does not work for you, I would suggest that you take time reviewing the hardware manual (page 37-39) and service module here to remove the hard drive. Without an operating system to boot from would definitely give you the machine level options to access the BIOS.

Are there any drivers available for my IdeaPad z575, or are there any coming? I looked at the supported systems list and my laptop was not listed, so I take it that means there are no windows 10 drivers for it? If that's true, will my system be supported in the near  future, or should I look for a new laptop? I'm asking because my touchpad and keyboard have stopped working with windows 10 (the keyboard works in my bios), and I was told by microsoft support to download windows 10 drivers for my system.

Hello! So I've gotten an issue that occoured today, which have made my laptop more or less useless. So yesterday during school it worked wonders, and today when I got to school and booted the laptop on. The Touchpad WOULD not work. It would not move out of the spot, but the keyboard have also just done the same. When I try and press a button on the keyboard nothing happens. I currently only have 4 buttons that work on it. Which are F9(Turn display on/off) F11/F12(display light up and down) and Fn key. This effectively means I am locked out of my laptop without having a mouse and a  keyboard with me. Which I simply cant have to school. I've tried googling around, but no one seemed to have this issue!

So, back about a year ago I bought an ideapad y410P after reading good reviews about it. All was going well until about, oh, 7 months ago. My laptop almost seems to...lose memory as it's left on, if that's possible. What I mean by this is like this, 160 MB is a very small percent of my memory directly after I turn on my computer. But 6 hours later, 160 MB is 10% of my memory. And it just gets higher as my computer is left on. I've already determined it's not a virus, and I've tried everything that I know how to do. I'm getting sick of tired of not being able to run a game that's "ideal specs" are an i5 and 4GB ram, when I have an i7 and 8 GB ram. I have screenshots of the problems in action that I can attach, but they don't show much. They just show programs that use very small amounts of 8GB, but for some reason, take up 10% of my CPU after being left on for 6 hours. They take up nothing directly after startup.I'm very unhappy with having to restart my computer every 6 hours or hit a blue screen and I need some assitance. Thank you

GPU clock speed reduces just after 2 minutes of gameplay, for example it will reduce from 600mhz-720 down to 480mhz to 570mhz maximum, this has a negative effect on framerates in game, whilst doing so the GPU temperature is reduced for 58 degrees celcius average down to 50 degrees average.3. Hi, about three weeks ago, I bought the Z710 with preinstalled Win 8.1, upgraded to Win 10 and then added Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon as an alternative boot option using the Grub2 boot loader tool. While I have no problems booting into Linux, the Grub2 Windows option "Windows 8 (loader) (on /dev/sda5)" always ends with a Windows Boot Manager Error 0x000000e ("The Boot Configuration Date ... is missing or contains errors"), File: \Boot\BCD. Now if I hadn't successfully done the same upgrade on a desktop PC from Win 7 to Win 10 recently where Linunx Mint had already been installed on a separate partition, and where everything works fine using the Grub2 option "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda1)", I would have thought the Grub2 entry on my IdeaPad was faulty. But this can't really be the case. So for the time being, I can only start Win 10 by pressing the Novo button, opening the Boot Manager's Boot Option Menu, selecting the option "Windows Boot Manager (ST1000LM014-SSHD-8GB)" and then pressing ENTER. This works fine. Is there anyone with a similar experience who might know the solution? Thank you for reading this.Jens

I think this is related to the win 8.1 update as as you said it was working fine with other OS so you need to revert back to win 8
Or do a recovery if you didnot remove the native OS

Thanks

Answer:Lenovo ideadpad 320: can i play high end games while charging on a built in battery laptop?

Hi Dawaey,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It would be best to play with ac connected as it directly gets power needed to maximize gameplay.
This would also be convenient for the battery, saving battery charge instead of depleting life charge and at the same time charging it to default threshold.

Newer charging technology within the chips controls this mechanism along with the software.
Battery default threshold would stop charging automatically when reached and redirects power demand on ac.

Such ideas was way back when battery has no control limit as it actually would not start charging before 95-96 percent by default.  This protective technology was develop to prevent battery from overcharging and overheating.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

I can't find a fitting driver for the Lenovo Power Management (Hardware ID: ACPI\VEN_VPC&DEV_2004)  for Windows 8 64bit. Even worse: the WiFi download speed is much too slow. I have several other PCs here to compare it, my router frimware is up to date, re-installed the latest version of the Broadcom 802.11n device even manually but nothing really helps to improve that issue. Can anyone help or maybe has more information?

I ordered a OCZ vertex 2.5" 30GB to replace the factory 160gb HDD in my new S10e. The circuit board the drive connection is mounted on juts out into the drive bay, at the bottom of the bay. The HDD was able to fit because there an indention that runs across the drive just below the SATA connectors that allows it to fit. However, my SSD is squared off (no lip/ indention), so it does not fit. This seems to be an issue with the S10e, since I have another 2.5" drive that is the same shape as my new OCZ SSD. Question: s10e

Does anyone know why the s10e was discontinued? I saw that Lenovo is still selling new s10' s. I was wondering if it was due to a problem with the netbook. Thanks.

Answer:s10e

My S10e was bought June 15-th. I thnik Lenovo just want to sell S10-2 only, maybe! It is not a problems, it is just a new model... And the old models are discontinued. About S10e - it is for education, and is the same as S10's - with 10.1 instead of 10.2 screen.

I recently bought the IdeaPad S10e (# 4187-2QU), thinking that it had a 160 gb HD. However, it appears to come with a 4GB SSD. On the product information, it states:  Product supportOriginal description: Atom N270(1.6Ghz), 1GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm HD, 4GB Solid State Drive, 10.1in 1024x576 LCD, Intel 950, Broadcom 802.11bg wireless, 10/100 Ethernet, Camera, 3c Li-Ion, WinXP Home Does this imply that the laptop has both drives? If so, how do I check? I am quite puzzled.

Anyone bought the Lenovo S10E from best buy for $197 on christmas day (SKU: 9648687) ? I received mine but i think it is just an S10 since no bluetooth and PCMCIA slot. Also, the series and type on the label is 4333-36U  which I think is for an S10.

Answer:Lenovo S10e from Best Buy

Hi and welcome.. wish a happy new year...
model S10-4333 /4329 has no expresscard/34 slot (not pcmcia as you mentioned  thats right, but a comes with 3G card  ...
further comes with resolution 1024x576 with glossy display 10.1" instead of 10.2" matte 1024x600  ... hardware technical  its more an S10e than S10 but software is taken from S10 that comes with OKR for example...

hope that clears some up ...

a happy new year again sincerely KalvinKlein

Plan to buy s10 for my wife. Only blue! (those women!)  there is only black  s10e  on our market. Is it possible to upgrade firmware s10 to s10e?

Answer:Is it possible to turn s10 to s10e?

Why do you want to change the firmware from S10 to S10e? The newer versions of the S10e firmware have only a res. of 1024x576 and the S10 Display 1024x600, so why change the firmwareI think you can buy a russian keyboard from Lenovo and change it and if your S10 has no Bluetooth you can buy the bluetooth module too..

Question: s10e Recovery

I've had an s10e (with windows xp home) for about half a year now.  I wanted to reinstall the OS using the recovery partition, but every time I try to run the recovery program (F11 on startup), it loads the files and finally shows a Lenovo background, but then freezes and reboots after about a minute.  Any suggestions on how to fix the recovery program?

Answer:s10e Recovery

First of all it had Linux; I bought this version since it was cheaper; I installed  Windows Vista 32bit and the olny resolutins that i have are 1024*576, I can't go higher - (I have installed the driver fo the VGA) Can it be because I have Vist? 2. I took the drivers from this adress: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-72740#PA *why for the version S10e there are no drivers for some devices? I mean there are noted with N/A, some of them; Isn't S 10e similar to S 10? and if not, where can you get those drivers? What i did for now was to donload the S 10 versions of them where N/A was present - and it seems to work OK even so. The thing is that I am not sure what drivers to use after a fresh install of the OS;  *what is the WEBCAM driver? Is it the verifaceiii20090205.exe? and how can I start the webcam just for takeing some pictures? * does the Lenovo S 10e have the 2 finger scrolling technique for the touchpad? i've seen some reviews that it should have, but I can't find it in the setings of it; I've looked and what I have seen was only the aeras on the square where you **bleep** put your finger to scroll, like on any other touchpad... * does S 10e have Ericsson 3G? becuase when I tried to install the software it worked; somehow I have heared that it has not... Question: S10e recovery CD.

The on-line support webpage, http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-71081, says that I can create a recovery CD. ?Note: A set of recovery CDs or DVDs can be created in the Rescue and Recovery predesktop area. A CDRW drive or CDRW/DVDRW drive and writable media are required.? The only options available are to ?recover? using the HDD service partition or to recover if you already have a recovery CD. Is there something I?m missing? Does the available recovery CD, 58Y1057, contain the latest files of the S10e? The files in the service partition seem to be missing the Bluetooth driver.

Answer:S10e recovery CD.

According to Lenovo Tech Support, whom I talked to yesterday for this same problem....because the S10e doesn't come with a cd/dvd they have not included that function in their Rescue and Recovery predesktop area. It appears that the only way that you can get a set of disks is to order them as a service part, or if your disk crashes under warranty have them send you a preloaded replacement or get them to send you a set of restore disks under warranty. Personally, I find this to be quite unsatisfactory. If they don't want to send the disks with it, at least allow us the capability of making our own. To not have this capability is to leave you at risk of downtime when your drive crashes....and I said when because we all know that drives do have that tendency...

Question: keyboard s10e

Hello, im looking for a keyboard for the s10e. Language Layout is not matter. the main thing is that i have a keyboard.Lenovo Suppord said that they do not ship parts like keyboard for the s10e. i can't understand this. What can i do to get a keyboard for my device? Thank you very much!

Answer:keyboard s10e

Not sure about using eBay.com from Germany. But I just searched "s10 keyboard -skin -protector"and found (25) S10 keyboards for around $20 US. As an eBay seller, I often get email from European buyers asking if I will ship.Sometimes I do. But it takes more effort, and it always costs the buyer more. Be sure to contact the seller about shipping before you bid.

By mistake I have bought a brand new S10E with Linux SUSE 10 operating system. My big mistake as I thought that I was buying one with XP already installed. How do I now install XP. I have 3 good XP installation discs and all of them are now causing the installation system to stop at the point where "Windows Setup" begins just after the temporary files have installed. An error message reads: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen then: 1 check for viruses, 2 Remove newly installed hard drives or controllers, 3 Make sure that the hard drive is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK/F for hard drive corruption. Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or need to do? Many thanks in anticipation.

Answer:Installing XP On S10E

Hi alandisney, IMO the most likely cause is the Windows XP installation disk needs to be at SP3 to operate the SATA hard drive in the S10e - or a driver must be provided using the F6 option, which is more complicated when the computer doesn't have a floppy drive. I'll suggest slipstreaming SP3 to an installation disk using nLite or borrow a newer XP disk. --Hans Edit: The operating mode of the hard drive can be changed in BIOS from AHCI to compatible, allowing installation of Windows XP without Service Packs. Installing AHCI drivers and changing the mode later is possible, but not trivial.Message Edited by hpholm on 30-05-2009 07:11 PM

I am using an Idea Pad for nursing visits and the assessment forms we use mandate the use of the shift key to go from line to line. Because the shift key is far to the right of where a touch typist is used to finding it and the up arrow key is right there where the right shift key is supposed to be, a problem arises. When one fills in a line and uses the down arrow to the next line below it and needs to use the shift key to capitalize, Whoops! the up arrow key is touched and takes one to the line above. Accessing this line activates the selection of the information in the line and if one is not watching carefully (touch typists just type away), and starts to type, - the whole line of previously entered information disappears, never to be found. Will Lenovo be making some kind of recall on this keyboard to correct the right shift key positioning? I hope so!

you can use KeyTweakhttp://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/ edit: after remaping the keys, u can also exchange the two physical buttons on the keyboard, but take care not to break them while diassembling..

I've been wanting to buy a netbook and was sold on S series after lengthy research. I waited for 6-cell battery version, which of course is available now. I'd love to buy S10e because of the Quick Start feature. Superficial me, I want it in red because I believe both function and fashion can go hand in hand. It is obvious that S10e is not available in red in USA. Although they are available in Europe, when I checked Lenovo website, there is no way I could purchase it (there is no link to buy it now kind of deal), just descriptions. Does anybody know where I can find S10e in RED, please? Any websites or resources will be greatly appreciated. My class will start in June, so I want to buy it within a month. Thank you so much in advance!

Answer:S10e how Increase VGA RAM?

VGA RAM amount depends on your RAM amount. Set BIOS parameter for VGA memory to "Default".If you have 512 RAM then you possibly have 8 VGA RAM, if you have 2 GB RAM it could be 128 VGA RAM.

Question: S10E with Linux

Yesterday I received my S10E preloaded with Suse Enterprise. I did the standard updates  and ran out of disk space. looking at the age of the OS I was underwhelmed so I tried to install  OpenSuse 11 I could not get that to work so I went to what I know the best. I installed Kubuntu 8.10 (intrepid). That was great and what I am using now. There are two items that I can not get to work and was hoping that people could share tips here and experiances.  The two items are the Battery Meter, and the Microphone. I have told external mikes work fine but i have not tested this. The next thing I want to do is replace the wifi applet (knetwork?) with wicd.

Question: PC Doctor for S10e

Hi, My IT department has blanked my C-drive and installed XPPro. Hi,I have a weird booting issue. When I power down my S10e "normally" everything works fine. After the netbook has shut down I can start it again by pressing the power button. When I am using the "Restart-command" in Windows or when the devive is restarted during the "Booting-procedure" for example when you entered the "Setup-menu" the device shuts down but does not start again by its own. The Power-LED is on but nothing happens. To get the device working again I have to remove the battery for a few seconds. After that I can start the netbook again by pressing the power button. Thanks in advance for your hints!

Question: S10e problem

Hi, I own a lenovo S10e for about a little over a year now. I have been very satisfied with what it does. Never had a problem with it except the one instance of some keyboard keys failing and had to send it it. This morning when i woke up, i turned on my s10e only to be shocked at a new problem. My S10e doesn't seem to boot up properly. I can clearly see that the power is on when i hit the power button  because the three LED light is shown brightly. However, my S10e doesn't even boot into the lenovo logo. I looked up this problem on various websites and see that others have had the same problem as me. The symptoms of such problem seems eerily similar to that of a bios problem....but the problem is that i didnt mess with the bios or anything. One night it worked fine...the next morning it does not boot up at all and stuck at a black screen. I tried the solutions of taking out the battery, unplugging, and holding the power button for 30sec several times...and it does not work. How on earth did this problem even occur...i'm a grad student and i take very good care of my computers (everything from keyboard covers, screen covers, constant anti-cirus updates, even deep-freeze to ensure total protection) now I am trying to figure out how to salvage 4 years worth of college documents along with research docs, thesis, etc. Has anyone have a solution to this boot up problem? I like the Lenovo quality but this is ridiculus...I ... Question: Lenovo s10e

Hello everyone I'm  new here and I would like to get some help regarding my lenovo laptop. I own it since 2009 and barely used it (except when travelling) and I need it done today because tomorrow I'll be leaving for a week and I will need a laptop to attempt to reach internet with wireless and chat with friends, or atleast view some documents/movies. I know this laptop isn't good for gaming but I heard so many people could run AOE series, Heroes 3(one of the games I easily get addicted to, yeah) and even GTA SA. Apparently though, my laptop can't run the last 2 games I've mentioned and I also want to install a new Windows to hopefully fix this problem. I'm also having problem with this thing since it doesn't have a DVD/CD-RW and I need to find a way on how to do a bootable USB Stick memory. I heard some people can tweak the monitor screen resolution so that it can run additional games/programs which aren't able to run on normal screen. On my laptop I can't do this since it has been disabled  Please guys help me out since I don't have any other ways to solve this Best regards

Recently my S10e stopped working properly. At startup it beeps once and displays the lenovo logo page. If i use F8 during startup it boots normally and does not give me an option to use safe mode. Once it boots up it seems to work fine. Any ideas why.

Answer:S10e won't boot up without using F8

hi Tbone12,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Things that we can try:
-Make Sure all third party/external devices are unplugged.
-Turn off the computer, remove AC charger and battery , hold down the power button for at least 10 sec/s, Turn it back on using only the AC charger

   - Reset Bios Default Settings:
To enter the BIOS Setup Utility, do as follows:
1. Turn on the computer.
2. When the Lenovo logo comes up, immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
3. On the BIOS Setup Utility screen, press F9 to load default , Enter for Yes, F10 for Save and Exit , and then Enter for Yes.

Hope this helps ,
Please let us know your findings,

I have noticed three problems with my new IdaePad S10e Gen II (I know, this model does not exist, and Lenovo insists my serial number starting 4333A41 is invalid  - I have sent them feedback). 1) BIOS settings are not persistent. Usually, I get the 'Quick Start' screen at booting, sometimes I don't.  Sometimes it boots from an inserted USB stick, sometimes it just ignores that same stick.  When using the BIOS setup utility I can see that the settings have changed. 2) The power management icon (battery meter) on the taskbar has disappeared, ever since I choose the autohide taskbar option.  Disabling autohide does not help.  Selecting 'always show icon on taskbar' in the taskbar properties does not help, nor does it when selected in the power options from the control panel. 3) My cordless mouse sometimes freezes - perhaps from interference from the wifi connection? Are there simple solutions? Does problem 1) and/or 2) mean that the unit is faulty?

Question: S10e GMA950

hi all first post here...  ok. so ive been trawling the net for a while, 3/4 weeks looking for an answer to my question.   so fingers crossed someone here can help! the GMA950 on the msi wind has 224mb of vram and vista reports the s10 as having 256mb vram.  in xp that my s10e shipped with there is only 128mb of vram max  and 8mb minimum (this amount changes due to demand upto 128mb)  there is no options in the BIOS to increase this and the latest intel drivers dont change the amount either, i already have 2gb of ram but really really want to increase this as i plan to use my S10e for some graphics lite work. so does anyone know how i can get the full amount of 256mb or 224mb on my s10e,  is there any planned BIOS updates?  i do feel a bit let down as if i had known this i would have purchased the MSI wind or Samsung NC10 instead . thanks in advance!

Answer:S10e GMA950

What i heard is that the amount of ram is changed according to the load work u're doing. For example, u're just idling or typing up some work, it wouldn't require a small amount of RAM, so the system will drop it low to around 32MB or 64MB. If u're using graphic-heavy programs, the system will ramp it up to 256MB maximum automatically.

Question: No AHCI on S10e

Hello, the bios option "SATA Controller working mode" on my S10e does not activate AHCI mode, no matter whether it is set to "Compatible" or "AHCI". The PCI-ID of the controller remains at 27c4 with the setting changed to "AHCI" but ist should be 27c5. Windows XP can be installed at both settings without supplying additional drivers using the "F6-method", this should not be possible with the option set to "AHCI". There is already a post in the linux section about this problem, but without an answer: http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_Linux&thread.id=1069 Is this a general problem with the S10e and maybe other IdeaPads as well? I cant imagine that it is only my IdeaPad having this problem. Apart from this my IdeaPad runs fine. RegardsTarkin

Answer:No AHCI on S10e

Dear Sir have the same (AHCI) Problem with my "Ideapad S10e 4068-Q3S." Updating from BIOS xx67xx to BIOS xx94xx long time ago (2009) don't resolved my Problem and now, i like to update my BIOS again to xxa0xx, to see, if Lenovo resolve this Hardware issue. But, it seems to be not possible, to do this update under Windows 7 (my actual OS) because on Lenovo Driverpage, they talking about Windows XP only... My Questions are: 1.) Can i update my BIOS to xxa0xx under Windows 7 x86 Operating System?2.) Has Lenovo brought this AHCI Problem under control?3.) How can i activate the real mode (AHCI) and how can i install the AHCI driver 8V11.2) under Windows 7 on my "Ideapad S10e 4068-Q3S."  I dont like to belive, that IBM/Lenovo brings out on the Market, an TablePC with Hardware defects... and it is not able, to resolve such a Problem... WOW... Please give me an responds of my Questions and don't let me alone with this Problem.  Sincerely Thilo

What is the different between S10 & S10E

Answer:Difference between S10 & S10e

You can google or you can go to this Wiki page but specs vary slightly in different market. In Malaysia, the S10 comes with 1G RAM, 160G HDD, Bluetooth and the 6 cell battery so don't accept anything less. I don't think the S10e is available in Malaysia.

Just got the S10e with Suse on. I'm not a linux guy but I'm not too stupid either! (I hope!!!). Not sure if I've a Friday afternoon unit (or they assume people will just put windows on it) but what a pig to set up. Couldn't get the **bleep** thing to connect through wired, card reader wouldn't work and camera won't work. It really doesn't impress me that they ship with what seems to be a hotch potch marriage between a reliable proven distro and this unit. No wonder linux has such a hard time gaining credit. Eventually got the wired connection to web up so re-installed driver for card reader and that now works most of the time (card doesn't click in like manual says it should though?) but for the life of me I can't get this blasted camera to work. Had a look for drivers but they seem to be thin on the ground at Lenovo or Bison. Any ideas please would be great. Suse enterprise SP2 on S10e from ebuyer.com Cheers.

I have been looking at the S10e for the past few months, but the shipping dates have always been fluctuating then followed by the S10e's web page being down, then back up again with new options for the S10e but not improved ones.  The shipping is now a 4 weeks wait, and I'm not sure wheather to purchase it now or wait and see what is going to be released.

Answer:Lenovo S10e - Canada

There is now the S10-2 an upgraded version of the S10 and S10e and also a completely new model S12 that is accepting orders. It may be good if you can look at all these alternatives to see if they meet your requirements and budget before ordering the S10e which is now an "old" model. But then, there is always something newer tomorrow.

Hey, I picked up a Lenovo Ideapad S10e 4187-5LG today which comes only with the 160 GB sata HD. But sadly Lenovo has been so "kind" as to **bleep** up the drive on it from the factory that you can't repartition it at all apparently. So I am stuck with 1 large partition at 145 gig which I DON'T want. I wanted to be able to make myself a seperate partition for all my documents and stuff so I wasn't damned well forced to preform a full backup everytime I would have to reload the machine. But does anyone know the trick?. Because all the partition managers I have tried on it either says there is a fault on the drive and simply shuts down or just shows the drive as bad. And being as things are I would rather prefer not having to reinstall the entire damned thing from scratch and just keep the OS thats on it for the time being. But is that a futile attempt and is my only real solution to actually scrap it and start over with the OS and everything?

Answer:How to repartition an S10e-4187-5LG?

Hi,First save the whole harddrive as i described in back up on S10e !If you not save your whole harddrive, you do it at your own risk...If you are not sure ! Dont do this!If you try earlier to partition ,and you got an error, i promise your F11 (or the recover partition itself)will not really function as it should ... -----------------------------Excurse ......Hint: If you try F11 the Recover & Rescue Screen is showing you about 2 minutes ! without sensingof working you must be very patient !Thats normal behaviour... then you can choose factory recover,or modified recover... that all.. no button to save...if you recover that take about 45 mins and leave the computeralone it install the whole windows at new for you scripted, dont interupt it, that leave you with a messed up...That is for information .... nothing but partial to do with this...That is the tricky part ! you dont know if all of it reallyworks, after an hour til windows is greeting you !and you have to repartition the whole thing again !that is for understanding it globally...The Harddrive solution is good, but not for everyone, the most important not flexible enough..and without possibility tomake a CD (but without a OD  its senseless to)For all manufacturers:  DVD/CD is obsolete !Why dont use flashdrives to recover ... produced ..in masses i think its relative(but that are the costs DVD/CD is (plenty of cents) cheaper but senseless without having a OD, so that the cost of bu... Hi I have a ideapad s10e that I formatted with linux. I now want to either make it dual boot or only windows xp.Did I delete the partion when I put Linux on? I have a XP cd, will it work if I use it with the netbooks license key?but then what about the drivers?I dont want to have a laptop where even the track pad doesnt work? Whats the best solution for me now?And no I dont want to go to lennovo service centre...

Answer:S10e restore after format

i'm not sure if the one key recover function still works but try to perform clean windows installation first. then you can install linux for dual boot.you can use your serial number to install xp but you may need to call microsoft. ( to activate it ) also, you can find drivers from download page. ( click the support "drivers&download" banner above )

Hello everyone, I have been looking around different forums, but have not been able to find an answer to the following question. Does the Lenovo IdeaPad s10e (4187-5LG) support Wake On Lan from full off?  I've been able to wake it up from standby and sleep mode, but not full off. I can't see any settings in the BIOS to enable or disable Wake On Lan. I suspect that i does not support WOL, but the customer i'm working with needs to know. Hopefully one of you have the answer! Thanks in advance

Hi  welcome to lenovo community...

Prepare before: download all drivers listed....later...

in short ... u need a XP SP3 CD that will be copied to harddrive...
be sure that XP (Home or Prof) includes ServicePack 3 !its most important because  (without SP3 you got problems with WLAN , S-ATA & HDA Sound) ...
...did you integrate the Intel storage matrix driver...?
This package installs the Storage driver to enable the following SATA Storage Controller on the system board:- Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller- Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller- Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
download & uncompress  . ... than integrate on cd via n-lite you need this for sata...
get Intel Storage Matrix Driver here or this one Intel Storage Matrix Driver both works...

..next you need a Tool to make USB Drive bootable
Storage Formatter
create with help due WinSetupToUsb that prepares a minimum ..1 GB Flashdrive bootable XP SP3
WinSetupUSB found here

Be sure that your machine BIOS is prepared to boot from USB HDD...if not do this at start press F2 to go in BIOSset Fn-F7 numpad on tab to Boot ...with plus + (plus + left on right SHIFT key is active )move USB via + and - so the result shown like this....1: USB CD Drive2: USB HDD3: HDD WD ....4.... boot your small machine with plugged flash ...

I'm facing a weird issue with my otherwise absolutely terrific S10e. If I were to pick it up, move a bit - just a notch above gently - it goes into a system freeze. Where only power / wireless radio keys work - while mouse, keyboard and the hdd stop responding. I've to eventually turn the system off and then restart it, to make it work. Any ideas as to what might be going on in here?

Answer:System Freeze - S10e

Hi kursed, It sounds like a hardware failure to me, and you need to have the S10e serviced or replaced. The procedure is to call Lenovo Support and talk to a friendly person - explain the problem, maybe he has an idea to solve the problem, otherwise get a Case-ID number and instructions on how to proceed. --Hans

Ok SO i am at the end of my rope, I spent 6 hours today being bounced back and forth from different "support" people trying to get my issue resolved. I have a S10e 4187-39U. Which is SUPPOSED to have the blue tooth installed from the factory. And I KNOW mine doesnt, I have actually taken the wrist rest/mouse pad off and the module and wire arent there, and this was at least confirmed by the "Tech Support" But here is where it gets hairy, the laptop is BRAND NEW, but I purchase it through a 3rd party distributor, (techdata.com) because we get a corporate discount through work for stuff. So nobody wants to help me, I called techdata, and they are ONLY a distributor, they dont mess with them , just resell, it was still sealed from the factory, which makes me upset that lenovo wont take responsibility for it and just send me the part, I can put it in, and its only like a $25 part, but they wong give me the part number and they wont send me on... HELP!

Also looking at the parts list shows that the 4187-39x isn't listed as having the Bluetooth Daughter Card.  What reasons lead you to state that it is supposed to have Bluetooth as this is clearly not the case? Was it included in the product description from techdata when you ordered the system? Thanks in advance

Greetings, I purchased this unit back in february, today it seems to have died.1 blue LED is on when the power supply is connected. But no startup will occur when pressing the button.I removed the battery and let it sit a while. Still nothing happens, any idea what the problem might be?Maybe a cmos reset would help, not sure how that would be done either. Thanks.!

Answer:Ideapad S10e Just died

Press and hold down the power on button until the blue LED goes out or until it comes alive again. If the LED goes out, power on as normal; if not, press and hold down and pray. Good luck.

The Quickstart can only re-installed under windows on an ntfs based partition makes an hidden folderThe way i think thats youre planning, to shrink the partition where windows & quickstart is , to put linux on resulting free space ... it should be working.... make the Quickstart folder visible and then switch to ubuntu  .. delete the unused windows folder and data under linux , but leave the quickstart folder..so that the path untouched , i think at least 500 MB you is what quickstart need for self....I didnt test it but thats the way youre going... regards KalvinKlein Message Edited by KalvinKlein on 03-27-2009 06:41 PM
