Lenovo Ideapad P580 won't boot past the lenovo splash screen and has a curser in top left corner

Question: Lenovo Ideapad P580 won't boot past the lenovo splash screen and has a curser in top left corner

I had a virus a few days ago. I tried to delete the virus after downloading a scanner. My laptop rebooted and had a blue screen that gave me options to fix, reset to factory, etc however the keyboard wasn't working so I couldn't put in my password. The only option without the password was to reset totally so I did. After a while another screen popped up saying there was an issue with the resetting. Long story short when I reboot only the lenovo splash comes up, F2 and F12 at the bottom of the screen, and the curser in the top left corner blinks a few times and then disappears. I can't get it to boot for nothing. I am able to plug another keyboard in but now all I get is the black screen and have no options to reset. I've read that the bios is probably the issue but have not clue how to get this set back up. Won't read usb flash. Please help.

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Ideapad P580 won't boot past the lenovo splash screen and has a curser in top left corner

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 750 GB
BIOS: 45CN36WW

It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.

So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.

Anybody have any suggestions on what the probl... Read more

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Crashed and now won't boot past opening lenovo screen

Are you able to get into the advanced boot menu by tapping F8? It might not be listed on the startup screen but it should still be there.

If not you can burn a repair disc from any PC with Windows 7. Theres steps from Microsoft Here.

Hi guys, I'm dealing with a problem which is currently (but I sincerely hope, not permanently) rendering my G700 useless. When I attempt to boot my PC it freezes at the Lenovo splash screen. I've waited ample amount of time but nothing appears to happen. One time I waited and managed to get into a Windows troubleshooting menu where I attempted to wipe the PC and start fresh, but this also froze at the lenovo screen soon after. Pressing the Novo button gives me 4 options but it appears to freeze, not allowing me to scroll through the options, or press enter. If I remove the harddrive it tells me to insert media and press OK, but once again, it appears to freeze as pressing enter doesn't do anything. I've tried booting from a USB stick but can't seem to get into any setting which would allow me to do this.I Removed DVD drive as I read on this forum that it was an issue with different Lenovo laptops, and since I don't use it anyway, decided to give it a go, but unfortunately nothing changed :-( If any kind soul could advise me with what I could possibly do, it be would be greatly appreciated as I'm dreading the thought of having to purchase a new laptop. Thanks :-)

Hi folks... maybe you can help me.  I bought a used S10e in apparently great cosmetic condition with a known boot problem.  It powers on, shows splash screen and the F2 Setup or F12 Boot options at the bottom of the screen the LENOVO logo.  The screen stays frozen and remains on with the keyboard locked.  It will simply stay on that screen.  Until tonight, that was as much as I could get it to do. Tonight, after playing with it a bit, I held down the ESC key as it started to power up and once it displayed the splash screen it beeped loudly about 15 times and changed screens into an apparent boot sequence.  It announced the bios name and other information but I noted a comment regarding "no tpm or tpm problem right before it froze up again.  Encouraged, I shut it off and and tried to power it up again.  This time, after I hit the ESC key and started getting the beeping as the screen shifted, I managed to access the cmos settings.  I carefully went through the CMOS and very carefully ensured no passwords were enabled in either the HDD bootup, supervisor or user areas... I cleared everything out, I think and also reinitiated the factory settings.  I saved all that and tried to save the CMOS and reboot.  When I did, it locked up at the splash screen again and I couldn't go any further.  I repowered up again, hitting the ESC key, then the F2 key as it was beeping and managed to get back into the bios and CMOS. S... This happened about 2hrs ago with my B520. Was working perfectly fine before this. Performed Microsoft updates as suggested, system prompted a re-boot to complete installation, system never came back completely. Only begins to boot and stops at the Lenovo splash screen at the very initial stage of boot. It never moves beyond the Lenovo Screen even after holding the power button and forcing shut-down.  Someone please help!! Thanks.

First try and see if it's not a lenovo little bug that happens to a lot people: Disconnect the pc from power for like 5 minutes or longer.  Then try to boot, see if it works again.if it doesn't boot as normal yet , still let it be for at least 20 or 30 minutes to see if it boots after that.

Laptop is running on Windows 10. Yesterday I updated my AMD graphics driver using the update tool from AMD. After all the necessary files were downloaded and installed, I was prompted to restart and I did. Upon restart, the laptop would not boot past the Lenovo screen. The white circles that rotate always freeze and it just stays on the Lenovo screen upon every attempt to boot. I can't enter safe mode or the bios options, what can I do to fix this?  P.S. A few months ago I began having an issue with the sleep mode. When trying to enter sleep mode, the laptop would just shut down unexpectedly and almost instantly. I'm not sure what caused this issue, but I've just been avoiding it by shutting down instead of sleeping. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, or if the restart was interrupted by an unexpected shutdown.

A few days ago it wouldn't boot at all and after trying every repair option I could, I ended up doing a factory reset. It worked for about a day after that albeit with a 15 minute boot time but now it's back to not booting whatsoever, I have no reason to suspect it's a hardware issue, the computer is fairly new, diskcheck and scannow report no issues with the hard drive, I'm going to try singling out the RAM and SSD today and probably run a memtest overnight in case that is causing the problem. I know there's a multitude of reasons it might not boot but I've tried everything I can think of to no avail so far, does anybody have any suggestions for things to try next? Much appreciated.

Had some worrying crashes recently. Backed up everything and reinstalled windows with a clean wipe with irrecoverable data, assuming it was a software issue. After reinstalling windows 8, windows update failed to go through the update process properly with various missing files being pointed out. Worrying. Carried out another clean windows install with similar results. After attempting to simply restart the laptop to confirm updates to windows updater, the laptop now no longer makes it past the lenovo boot screen. Occassionnally it will try an automatic recovery which will tell me it failed. I have tried all possible options here but they nearly always hang on various screens. Sometimes they make it back to the auto recovery failed screen but most never make it past the lenovo splash.I've tried various fixes that i've found on the forums. Many include using the Novo key to get to bios. Unfortunately this key has never done anything in the 3 years that i've owned the laptop. I had pressed it a few times as I was curious about what it did but thought nothing of it when absolutely nothing happened.Looking with steps to take now.For clarification:IdeaPad y580 most often doesn't make it past lenovo splash screenWhen it does it shows automatic recovery failed. Hello. As the title says, my Ideapad Y500 is starting to have some issues. A week ago it refused to shut down. Screen would turn off but not the laptop, which would remain kind of dormant. Following some advice online I uninstalled Express Cache form the Control Panel. Now the system turns off, but I have a new problem, this time booting up.Whenever I boot up the laptop it goes to the Lenovo splash screen, then black, then resets to the splash screen and stays there forever. If I shut it down manually and then boot it up again, it goes to Windows as it should, but the whole process takes from 2 to 10 minutes. If I try to restart the system, same thing happens.  If I keep doing this I fear one day it will just die on me.Added to this, I've been getting intermitent failures of the Intel RST software, which sometimes just won't work at all. Other times it's fine. I read somewhere I should update the drivers but I don't know where to find them or if hey may harm my pc even more.I'm running Windows 8.1 (64 bits). So far, besides uninstallid Express Cache, I have run chkdsk on both disks on my system and they appear to be fine (or at least nothing comes up when running the scan). Beyond this, I have no clue how to proceed. I'm not a especially tech savvy person, so any help you guys might give me will be greatly appreciated it. Also, if you can explain it as clear and simply as possible, it would be that much better. Thanks a lot!

Had a user call saying their computer wouldn't turn on.  Got there and it was stuck at the lenovo splash screen as soon as it boots.  I've brought it back and have tried nearly everything.  There are no POST codes while it boots up either.  The following troubleshooting steps have been taken:Reseated RAMRemoved 1 stick of RAMRemoved both sticks of RAM (I get the no RAM sequence of beeps)Disconnected HDDDisconnected Disk DriveDisconnected both drives at the same time.Reseated all power connections on moboPulled out CMOS batteryHeld Power Button while power was unplugged and battery was removedI don't know if there's any more steps other than getting a new motherboard.  I know you can update the BIOS with a USB or CD.  But if I can't even get past that screen is it possible for me to flash or update my BIOS?  This is pretty much the screen i'm getting.  Nothing else other than "lenovo".  This is not my picture though, as I have an M82 here.

Hi, my IdeaCentre B540 will not boot past the Lenovo Splash screen after restart.  This is the thrd time that this has happened and I am getting very frustrated with it.  The first time it happened it was one month outside the 12 month warranty and I had to pay the retailer (PCWORLD) to solve the problem.  They could not give me a definitive answer as to the problem! The second time it happened was 1 month later.  I left it for a couple of days with no power lead connected and all other peripheral disconnected.  I then tuned it on with F1 firmly pressed and it booted up OK.......but it did not enter the BIOS settings as it should with F1 depressed, instead it went straight into Windows. This time it has only been 1 week since the previous time.  I have tried everything but still no joy!  I am completely at my wits end with it and would be very grateful for some assistance!!!!!

My son accidentally got his leg caught in the cord of his laptop when he got up and the laptop  fell approximately 2 feet to the tile floor.  It boots up but stays on the Lenovo splash screen.  If I go into the BIOS and select System Recovery it goes through the "Loading files..." process, the Lenovo splash screen appears with the dots going in a circle but, then after about 2 minutes of that the screen just goes black.  If I tilt the screen forward or back I can tell it is still backlit just with nothing to display.  Anything we can try?

Hey, my Lenovo s10e perpetually restarts after the Lenovo splash screen. The blinking cursor comes up for 5 seconds and then the computer restarts again. F1 for system bios or F8 for safe mode do not work. Taking out battery/AC and holding power button for 40 secs also yields no results. Computer had been working fine, when inexplicably the virtual memory shot up and the paging file had to be increased. Tried to shut down the computer but it wasn't responding, so I did so manually. I have not been able to get the computer to boot up properly since. I spoke with Lenovo on the phone and they said it was a motherboard issue, and the computer had to be sent in. Was wondering if anyone had some other possible solutions before I'm forced to ship it out. All the best,Andom

Answer:lenovo Ideapad P580 BSOD problem.

Hi,I also have a P580 and have experienced the dreaded BSOD while running Windows 7 64bit.  My first question to you would be if your computer has a NVIDIA graphics card, or the Intel HD 4000 graphics card?  If it is NVIDIA, then the problem may lie in the ATI Catalyst Control settings for the card.  To solve, open up the ATI catalyst control center, and restore all settings for the card to "Default".  However, where it says something to the effect of "When Playing Games" or "Watching HD" set that option to "Let application control and adjust best performance settings for system".  Here is a link to where I found that information:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/blue-screen-bccode-116/70bda113-79... After you have done that, try opening a game and see if you still get the error. Alternatively, if your system has the Intel HD 4000 card as mine does (not sure if they put different graphics cards in different P580's), you can open the Intel HD Graphics Control Center (located in the notification area), select Advanced mode, and then under the Media tab & 3D tab, select the options that allow the application to take over. If that doesn't work, if you are able to, disconnect power supply and remove batter, then take the cover off the RAM modules on the bottom of computer, and carefully take each RAM stick out and put them back in place.  Put battery back in, power up and try a game. If that... Answer:IDEAPAD p580 - Lenovo TouchZone problem

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

Your machine maybe does not pick the right driver. The installed driver package actually includes driver for the 3 different types of touchpad: Cypress, Synaptics and ElanTech.

Go to Lenovo's  support website and download the "Touchpad" driver.

Install it.
Go to C: > drivers > TouchPad Driver (Cypress, Synaptics, ElanTech)
Go to Synaptics > ClickPad
Right-click on "Setup" and run as "Administrator"

If the option for Synaptics was not automatically chosen,

(While in "View by: Small icon") Mouse > Hardware
Choose "Lenovo pointing device"

Hi, my Lenovo P580 recently got this weird issue. After a random time of usage, it will start loading very slowly to the point that it feels like its frozen. I would need to wait for another 30mins for the machine to run again. I've tried to virus scanning, doing malware check and CCleaner and found no issues. I even went into safe mode and the problem persists. Any idea?

Hello Please help. Lenovo IdeaPad p580 - Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit edition. Today my system hung. So I waited for it to get normal but it did not for 15 minutes or so. Then forced shutdown it. Restarted and it stayed jammed for 30 mins or more on Starting Windows screen. After that tried Safe Mode with Networking (Displayed cursor only and did not display anything else for very long time), SafeMode with Command prompt (did not move after CLASSPNP.SYS file), tried using recovery disk it gave me first screen to select language and country then on second screen gave Startup Recovery/Repair thing but did not allow to do anything as cursor kept in spinning mode. Waited for more than one hour. After that tried to use ONEKEY Recovery and before that backed up my data via portable linux drive which I alway keep handy. OneKey Recovery failed (Note- I have not resized or deleted or tempered that partition so there is no chance for it to fail). Turned off the system clicked on OneKey Recovery and it gave me a screen with a wallpaper and cursor only. Did not give anything else. Tried getting an ISO from microsoft but they said my key is an OEM so contact the manufacturer. Here on Lenovo website they say my product is out of warranty. When I want to use that OneKey Recovery it is not working just wow there goes my magic wand which I have saved to use in dry days. I know I can always FORMAT my system and reinstall it. Though its not an Option or say its a last resort.&nbs... Read more

Hi ! I just got a Lenovo IdeaPad P580. I did a first backup with OneKey Recorery successfully. Then, some days later, I wanted to do it again, but I added a lot of files, so it didn't work because the backup wouldn't have enough space. I didn't realized that the D: disk only purpose was to content the factory settings (or near them), but nothing more. I put the drivers and the applications (but not the backup) from the D: disk on a DVD, and I wiped out everything. I wanted to free some space...Now that I realized the D: drisk was only there to store factory settings, I'd like to get the original backup back to have at least a D: partitition useful for something in case of emergencies... Otherwise, it's useless and I could merge it with C:, and do backups with an exeternal disk, but I'd like to avoid doing that...

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad P580 and deleted OneKey Recovery files

Ok i'm not sure i understand everything you wrote for example:''I did a first backup with OneKey Recorery successfully'' What exactly did you do and how  did you do that? And:  ''and I wiped out everything. I wanted to free some space.''' Did you wipe just the D: or ...? To get your system back to factory settings (?nitial state, just as it was the day you bought it) please double cklick the One Key Recovery(OKR) ?con on the desktop click on 'System Recovery' A notice will pop up asking you 'Do you want to reboot your computer into the System Recovery Environment' Click Yes and then just follow instructions. When it's done evrything that should be there, will be(hopefully anyway).. Do let us know what happens.

Hi, Recently the touchpad for my laptop has stopped working on many occasions. Sometimes I use a USB mouse which works perfectly but whenever I use the touchpad the cursor keeps freezing. It doesn't happen at a specific time, it just happens randomly and very frequently. In order to make it work I have to tap the touchpad really hard over and over again or just mess with it until the cursor starts to work. It works for about 30 seconds and then stops working until I mess with the touchpad to make it work again.  Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please help!

The problem occurs when I try to turn on the machine from a cold start up.  Restarting the machine has a normal operation time.  During the time the Laptop is trying to boot and reach the lenovo splashscreen, the power LED stays on and the keyboard backlight remains illuminated.  Toggling the Caps lock key is unresponsive in toggling the caps lock led indicator at this time.  I also tried plugging in an external monitor to see if it that was the issue.

I have tried swapping HDD with no success with another HDD from a lenovo Thinkpad, and from another Lenovo y580.  The HDD from my y580 boots on either machine with no problem.  HDD from either machine into my Y580 did not improve the boot time response.

When the y580 is trying to reach the splash screen, if I plug in the AC adapter, the machine emits one audio beep.

I have tried booting with and without AC adapter and with and without battery input.  All combinations yield long boot times.

Boot times in general can vary from 5 mins to 15 mins.  I downloaded lenovo solution center and ran the hardware scan and there was no issue with the mobo or the graphics card.

Getting to the 'Lenovo' splashscreen takes around 15 mins. Afterwards, Windows 8.1 loads with no problem and the system is very responsive.  Games and applications run smoothly.  My solution was to keep the computer in hibernation mode when not in use.  After m... Read more

Answer:ThinkCentre: Stuck at Lenovo splash screen after lenovo solution bios upgrade

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

Here is my problem and here is the solution!!!My B540 Ideacentre would not pass the Lenovo splash screen. The only operational keys I had was F1 (BIOS) and F12 (BIOS options). F2 went to a light blue screen so no chance of even a one key recovery. Warrenty had expired four and a half months ago. I contacted Lenovo and after the guy told me to try F2 twice he said it was a HDD or other hardware failure and would cost around £200 maybe and also would take about two weeks.  AT THIS POINT YOU SHOULD NOT BE ANGRY FRUSTRATED OR PANIC. REMAIN CALM AND STOP AND THINK WHAT ACTUALLY WAS HAPPENING WHEN YOU LAST USED YOUR PC. For me I remembered Windows had auto downloaded 8.1 and was asking me to install. Also my keyboard had lost shift W T Y keys. This told me that it was not a hardware issue but a software issue and perhaps from this update. My HDD was not clicking or beeping and this PC has a 2TB Seagate Barracuda which has a good reputation. Luckly for me I also have a Seagate external expansion 2TB and a 500MB expansion which was the HDD from my old HP Touchsmart which I converted into an external hard drive by buying a HDD enclosure with cooling fan and all leads from eBay for £25 and this is where the solution is. If you can create an expansion drive so easily and access the HDD then why cant I do it with the HDD from my Ideacentre and of course you can. So first unplug your PC or laptop. Next remove the cover and unclip the HDD (which is easy with the B540.... Read more

To make a long story short, I've been asked to help fix a friends mom's U410 laptop which wasnt activiting Windows 8.1 properly (Was Windows 8 OOB). After struggling with the activation for a few hours, I backed up the data and decided to just run the Lenovo one key recovery. During the recovery process, the installation had failed. When I attemped to reboot, no Lenovo splash screen was loading - just a black screen (although i can hear the cooling fan start, and hear the harddrive spin up. I tried to access the boot menu thru the novo button, and nothing would load; still a black screen. After researching for a few more hours, I had found multiple threads about bios updates required to be able to access bios with windows 8, and other threads about gpus on these units booting to a second screen (which i did test, and the second monitor does indicate a signal). None of the solutions on those threads have given positive results.   Basically, I've run out of options and am looking for some suggestions. The only thing that shows up on the display at anytime is the small blue novo menu when the button is pressed (normal start up, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery - all of which just leave a black screen). Thanks.

2 week old H405. Problems started immediately. Occasionally the unit fails to start, freezing on the LENOVO splash screen. No drive light or drive sound. After power cycling a few times, with a break between them, it will start up. First thought was temperature, but SpeedFan says the hottest thing in the box is 29C Any thoughts? I would also like to know how to turn off the splash screen and se the normal POST information. the instructions in the Hardware Maintenance Manual don't appear to work. Final thing. SpeedFan seems to pick up temperatures, but the voltages are messed up. What's a good hardware monitor for this motherboard? Thanks

It sounds like you want a fairly complete monitoring tool.  Speccy always came to mind.  It should work okay for your board.

You might want to make sure the ram is seated properly and do a diagnostic on the hard drive.

The first thing I look at if a machine hangs at startup is the USB ports.  Physical damage can create shorts which cause these symptoms.  Check for bent pins or a tongue broken off.

I bought this g510 less then a year ago without an OS.I've installed win7 first then ubuntu14.04, back when i get it.Yesterday I deleted my win7 partition and reinstalled a premium sp1 win7 version from a usb formatted as NTFS - as you might have guessed I'm booting the laptop in legaci mode. The installation got stuck and failed and i had to do a hard reset. After the hard reset the laptop won't boot and in fact it won't even pass the splash screen or respond to fn+f2 or any other shortcut to get into the bios. Even when i shut it off and press the Novo button it starts but doesn't display the blue utility menu with bios and boot options. Ive tried pressing the power button for 30 seconds witn the battery and power cable disconnected and tried to boot from usb but still nothing.I then took the hard drive out and the laptop would boot and respond to novo button and fn+f2 and i can go into bios. It would also boot from usb when the hdd is disconnected. But it dosen't matter which bios settings i change or if the bootable usb is connected, when i hook the hdd back the laptop will just get stuck on lenovo splash screen again and won't respond to Novo button or fn+12 and it won't boot from usb - i should mention it does respond to capslock or the key to make the screen black (fn+f9).I have a 1TR samsung sata hdd that seems to be perfectly fine. Answer:lenovo g510 stuck in lenovo splash screen

hi markwills,

Welcome to the Forums.

If using another drive works fine on the G510 then I suspect that the stock HDD is failing or has corrupt partitions.

Can you consider using a 2.5" SATA enclosure to convert the stock HDD into an external drive and try to format the drive and/or run a hardware scan on it using the following:

  - Lenovo Storage Test or
  - HD Tune.

When finished, try to insert it back on the G510 and observe.

If you get errors on the scan or if the above step is not possible, I recommend you contact warranty support on how to go about getting the unit serviced.

I also tried pressing the the Novo button (the small round and black button besides the power button) but the screen shows no change and does not go to bios/reset menu on pressing f9/f12 too. Hi Azadkv,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that your G500 Laptop is not booting to Windows and hanging at Lenovo Logo and the issue persists even after performing Flee-Power step. Hence, I suggest to perform BIOS reset and check if the issue persists. Below are the steps to perform BIOS reset:

To access BIOS menu turn OFF the Laptop and press the NOVO button located beside power button.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer will automatically restart.

Do post us back if the issue persists.

Best Regards

Hi, so I bought my Lenovo Y570 sometime in 2011 and it has been running smoothly ever since. However, over the past week I havent used it very much and when I went to use it today, I found that it wouldn't boot past the first Lenovo Logo Screen. I press the power button, it gets to the logo screen, then it 'restarts' itself and does the same thing over and over again until I turn it off by pressing the power button.  I've looked around on other forums and I saw a suggestion to take the battery out and hold the power button for 30 seconds but that didnt do anything and when I hold down the F8 key on the lenovo logo screen, the laptop just beeps a dozen times. I'm not sure if its just done for or if there's anything else I can do, but I'd appreciate any suggestions! Thanks in advance!

I have tried the hold down the power key  repair, but that hasn'tworked. I've tried to boot without battery and with battery but unplugged. I found the suggestion about the USB ports being damaged and that could be my problem but I am a computer novice when it comes to hardware. I don't understand how to check the contacts as has been suggested, in the USB ports. Could someone explain exactly what I would do? When I look at my ports they have a little bar looking thing that is not shown in the photo I found referenced on this site.

Answer:SL510 doesn't boot past Lenovo screen

You are probably looking at an image of a port that has the little bar looking thing broken out already.

There's supposed to be a little plastic bar.  It should have 4 metal contacts laid in parallel along it.  If those contacts get twisted they can short to each other or the metal shell and prevent the laptop from booting.

Not to say that's the problem, but it's something to check.

I'm having a devil of a time finding a good photo.  Here's the best I can find ATM:

When I turn it on, it continuously cycles between the "Lenovo" with black background screen, to a black screen, then seemingly restarts itself and continues over and over. When I hold down the reset button near the power cord, it shuts down the pc, turns it back on, and the cycle begins again. What are my options? Also The PC shipped with Windows 8, but I upgraded to the free windows 10 back when that was available. If I have to reset the PC, it'll reset to Windows 8 right? Will I be able to get it to Windows 10 again?

Do you have a Windows 8 or 7 recovery media? If so, boot to that, enter advance options and do a system restore or boot fix (boot fix is your last option if using a Windows 7 recovery img). This might fix the boot but, the okr system is broken for good unless you purchase recovery disks.

The laptop just won't go past the Lenovo logo and stays there for hours. I've tried everything such as holding F2 and messing around with everything there, holding F12 and booting from everything there, using the OneKey Recovery and tried the Sytem Recovery, which gets past the logo but ends as a black screen. It won't start up no matter what I do. I'm hoping someone with a wider knowledge than I could helpme out with this problem. Story is that it began to get very slow after a System Restore (the Disk was constantly at 100%), so I decided to restore it back to before I restored it and I waited 3 hours at the screen where it said it was storing some stuff and registering things. I looked up what to do and one solution was to shut it down and try again. I did that and now it won't start up. Please help solve this.

It says to press fn+f2 for set up or fn+ f12 for.multiboot. Neither command works. The recover button brings me to this screen as well. What should I do? Hey.I've got a new problem on my Lenovo Ideapad Z570, everytime I turn on my laptop, it gets stuck at Lenovo splash.Every time, I've to plugin the adapter and press the start button and when it freezes at the Lenovo splash, I plug-out then I connect it again. And when I get lucky, it continues the start-up after waiting +25 seconds freezing on the Lenovo splash and it's really too slow.at booting. - I removed/unsitalled some games and some programs.- I scanned for viruses using Malwarebytes. But none of those helped. So I tried to search on the internet and it looks like it's BIOS issue(s), but not sure. So, what's really the problem ? And how I'm able to solve it ? Thanks in advance.

My rig was running fine until I go to plug in my phone into one of the frontside USB ports to charge. The computer instantly turned off, and since then it will not boot past the black XP splash screen with the moving bar at the bottom. I was able to successfully boot into safe mode after pressing F5 before the splash screen comes up, so I was able to pull off some crucial files.

Any suggestions on how to get this fixed or what is causing this? FYI, this is a custom built rig with a core2duo, 4gb ram, Gigabyte mobo. It's about 3 years old and I've never had problems until now. I've done some hardware unplugging/troubleshooting, so I'm more inclined to think this is a software issue.

I've also tried this, from another forums thread several years ago, but it did not work for me:

Run the Recovery Console and press R. When at the command prompt type:
chkdsk /r
This will check and fix any errors. Reboot after its done. It problem still exists, run Recovery Console again and this time type:
fixmbr
If it says you have a non-standard or bad master boot record then select yes and run it.

and also this:
First off, boot your computer from your Windows XP restore cd/OS cd, when the menu comes up hit the R key to get to the recovery prompt.
The prompt should start off at C:\Windows. Type cd system32. The prompt should now read C:\Windows\system32
Type: copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe
Reboot

I do have the XP cdrom but I want to try any other options before ... Read more

Answer:XP won't boot past splash screen

When you attemped the repair with the XP CD did you try to fix the boot sector? FIXBOOT

Sometimes the first part of the boot sector gets corrupted and repairing it can get you back running. The only thing you won't know is if there was other damage inflicted somewhere else. Don't forget to backup your data regularily -- if you value it anyway.

I recently rebooted my pc and now it hangs at the XP splash screen with the blue bar starting and stopping every few seconds. There was no indication of a virus, trojan, etc and all the hardware seems to be OK. It even hangs when attempting to go into safe mode though I only had the option a few times and cant get back to choosing how to boot up. I hit F8 but only get what drive to use to boot. I went into the recovery console and tried with out any success the following:

chckdsk-found errors but no change
fixboot
boot cfg
Seagate HD tools, everything passed

I also tried a XP repair which went through fine but still I get to the splash screen and nothing. I even let it sit there for 2 1/2 hours. Could it be a hardware issue? I will try removing memory and see if that could be the hang up. Of course my last resort is to reinstall as I want to get some files off the drive. Is it possible to install XP on a partition or another drive and have access to my files so I can back them up? Thanks in advance.

The short version is that Windows XP will not boot past the splash screen. Thinking this was a hard drive problem, I reformatted and tried another hard drive and the problem persists. So on 2 newly reformatted hard drives, I cannot boot XP past the splash screen, though I can boot into safe mode just fine.motherboard: NF650-iSLIT-Acpu: Core 2 Duo 6600 @ 2.4 GHzhard drives: 1 TB and 320 GB Seagate Barracudasram: 2 x 2GB Corsair XMS DDR2GPU: 8800 GTSSo I don't think it's the hard drives since I can access both of them via safe mode. I've tried starting up the machine with one of the sticks of memory removed and then the other. I've also run memtest86 with no problems, so I don't think it's the memory either. I'm not sure what else to do to diagnose the problem. Can anyone help?

Answer:Can't boot into XP past splash screen

Can you boot to safe mode?Poor quality hard drive cables or even loose cables could cause it. Bios setting set too fast could also. Set to failsafe or default settings to try install again. In some cases, it could be that the motherboard has failed.1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. So my problem is an usual one which I've yet to find a solution to, it's possible that it's hardware related but I'm unsure, the issue is this, I recently moved my desktop from one side of my room to another (I'll get onto this later) and after setting it back up again and plugging all of my USB devices I booted it up and it loaded straight into Windows as it should (I have turned off password authentication on boot up), it immediately popped up with notification stating it was installing drivers for unknown device, then it froze, no blue screen, it just froze as it was, no input was working and so I hard reset the PC by holding down the power button, upon turning back on the computer it will no longer get past the initial splash screen that shows the Asus Logo (Its an Asus Z170M Plus Motherboard), and even more interesting is that it does not respond to any sort of input from various keyboards, so now I'm stuck with a computer I can't use and I suspect Windows has something to do with it, if not and it's a hardware issue I'd appreciate guidance on what to do next, I've tried removing all components and testing them all, the problem still remains even with only 1 DIMM of RAM and the cpu, it just won't respond, resetting the CMOS also didn't help

ok this one has me scratching my head

yesterday morning I was able to bootup my computer fine, got past splash screen, was able to login, startsup.
mozilla newest version has been crashing on me recently, but it seems to happen to a few of my friends too.

anyways i turned it off, because for whatever reason my computer no longer sleeps (makes me be a bit more aware of when and how i use my computer), and walked away for about 3 hours.

i come back, turn on, goes to xp home splash screen, and then black screen, no cursor.
i restart: turns on, goes to splash screen, i get a cursor this time, but still just black screen.

so i restart; turns on, f8 into safemode, thinking darn virus or something. safemode loads up, but the resolution is high.
normally when i load into safemode its at 600x800, blue desktop, and i can't resize it, but the windows for all my virus scanners look like they would in normal mode, just taking up the whole screen...

this time i have more than enough space, the screen has a black desktop, has SafeMode in four corners, and system detail printed at top
my antivirals (AVG, spybot S&D, malewarebytes..) programs run on the bare minimum, (no fancy interface) only black screen and blocky white letters. no problems found (well actually i don't even get a log, it just kind of finishes and closes) i can't resize the resolution.

i tried the msconfig turnoff startups reboot into normal, still nothing
i tried the msconfig turnfoff services (hid mic... Read more

Hi, I've been trying for the past couple hours to install an SSD in my X200 and have run into nothing but difficulties. When the SSD is installed in the laptop, I can't even boot into the bios setup screen. The laptop freezes just past the Thinkpad Splash screen. The drive is completely empty right now and I've tested in my desktop with no problems what-so-ever. I've tried updating the bios to the latest version and I can't think of anything else to do. The drive is an OCZ Agility 3. Any suggestions?

However, if i spam the hell out of the tab key when starting up my computer, it takes me into POST, if i wait untill the splash screen is on i never get into POST, but when i do it only gets to the point where it says, memory OK. the only thing i have considered so far was that maybe its related to my power source, as i just installed a new 7600 gt card and I still have a 350 watt power supply, probably not smart but it seemed to work. I havent tried anything hardware-wise yet and im looking for suggestions.

Answer:My computer cannot boot past the splash screen please help!

You have a hardware failure. It could be the "new" power supply, bad memory or a failing hard drive. If your motherboard has on-board video, remove the 7600GT and see if the system boots

Good afternoon. My apologies if this thread is in the incorrect forum.

Here's the issue. I started up my desktop just fine today. No problems at all. I get online and go to a website, I forget which one. One I haven't been to before, for sure. As soon as I access the site, Kapersky starts flipping out about some rootkit virus. I start the virus scan and it notifies me that I need to reboot my computer, so naturally, I do so.

Upon restarting my computer, It goes to the screen asking for safemode and what not. I start it normally, and it goes to the XP splash screen. It loads for a few seconds, then restarts. Finding this rather frustrating, I restart it and choose safe mode with the same results.

I assume this is a boot sector error, so in order to try to reinstall the operating system, I insert the XP boot disk that I have. My computer allows me to attempt to boot from CD, but nothing happens, and it continues to the safe mode screen. I press F8 and choose disable automatic restart on system fail, and it comes up with a BSOD after the XP splash screen. It tells me I need to run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and to restart. Since I cannot get to the command prompt, I am unable to comply. The error at the bottom of the screen is as follows.

Hello guy and gals, I've been trying to diagnose this problem with the help of a few friends and we're out of ideas at this point.

The computer in question is a home built PC the worked fine for two years before this problem occurred,I'm told the problem first started when it got a virus but I don't know for sure. The PC has an Asus P5N32-E SLI MB and it's running Vista Home Premium 32-Bit.

When I start the computer it loads to the bios splash screen and normally freezes there, occasionally I'm able to get into the bios before it freezes where I can see that all of the temps are normal and nothing jumps out as unusual, however I only have about 20 seconds to look through it before it freezes. Before this started it would just just keep rebooting when it got to the post screen with occasional distortion of the bios splash screen.

I have tried replacing the hard drive with a known working one, and I have replaced the video card with a known working one; I have also pulled all of the ram out of the computer and tried each stick individually without success. I have pulled the battery several times and cleared the capacitors and so far I have gotten nowhere.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated, thank you in advance for your help.

Powerup light comes on, drive light illuminates briefly but shuts off when motherboard splash screen appears. Splash screen remains and keyboard unresponsive. Can't access BIOS or Safe. Does this reflect CMOS battery failure?

Answer:XP won't boot past mboard splash screen

" Does this reflect CMOS battery failure?"No, you are having some other problems like memory. If you can not get into the BIOS then you are stuck. Try removing the RAM and reseating it. Try pulling out any perihelia cards that might be causing a conflict. Check to make sure the CPU Fan is working properly. Check the Power Supply Unit. Double check the Keyboard connection.

I am working on a Dell Optiplex GX270 that will not boot past the splash screen in normal mode, nor will it go into safe mode. I'm not getting any errors, just a very faint splash screen.

So far I've tried (with no success):
1) changing power supplies
2) put in a new video card
3) put in a different hard drive with a fresh Windows XP install
4) different memory

What am I missing?

Whats going on guys,
I have a Windows XP Professional Edition and i incurred a spyware virus on my PC, so i made a dumb decision by running MSCONFIG and changing my SAFEBOOT option, I did this because previously I couldn't even get into Safe Mode, it would load the files on the screen

example:
and my CPU would reboot, i even tried the other Safe Mode options (command prompt, networking, etc.) I still couldnt accomplish logging into a Safe Mode. But I could still log into Windows Normally.

BUT Now (after changing my SAFEBOOT option in MSCONFIG, thinking i couldnt log into Safe Mode that way), I cannot even log into Windows XP (PERIOD.) Normally or via Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, or any-other way. My CPU loads up and once it reaches the Windows XP Splash Screen it appears to be normally loading, then my screen goes blank and my system reboots, It reboots in an endless loop, i could leave this sucker on for a whole month and it would still be in an infinite boot loop between the start-up of the CPU and the Windows XP Splash Screen..lol

my problem is similar to this guy's

Please help. My Ideapad has basically stopped working.  My operating system is Windows 7 Home Edition.  A few days ago, my computer froze up and I got the blue Windows screen that says: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.  A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated..."  The blue screen went on to say that I should restart Windows with safe-mode and remove any recently added programs.  I did this and I believe I successfully removed Java, which is the only new software I updated recently (although I wish I had not).  I was also able to restore my computer to about a week before the crash. However, only rarely am I able to get windows to start again at all, whether in safe mode or not.  I'd say 4 out of 5 times, I am seeing the Lenovo boot-up screen for about 3 minutes, and then I get a black screen that says the following: Intel UNDI.  PXE-2.1 (build 082)Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation This Product is covered by one or more of the following patents:US5,307,459, US5,434,872, US5,732, US6,570,884, US6,115,776 andUS6,327,625 Realtek PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller Series v2.26 (090219)PXE-E61:  Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F:  Exiting PXE ROMOperating system not found That message repeats itself if I press any key, and if I press the power button the... I'm running Win XP Media Center Edition SP1 2002 now (I reformatted, used to have SP2 installed.) and only recently have I been experiencing this mysterious issue that frustrates me to no end. A little tidbit of information before I go on, somebody installed Windows Virtual Machine (with a windows 98 download from some forum) maybe a week ago. That's when the start-up problems began, so I'm led to believe that this could be the culprit. I have no idea.
Anyway, when it first refused to fully boot, it couldn't get to the Win XP splash screen. I had somebody look at it. He went to the Setup menu and restored it to the optimized defaults. Either that temporarily cured it, or we were lucky. It started up normally and I didn't turn off the computer for maybe two days. After I finally DID shut it down, the problem persisted, however this time it WOULD get to the splash screen, but nothing else. Returning it to the optimized defaults would do nothing. Since the computer was old, slow and flooded with programs I myself didn't install, I thought it was a good time to just reformat the whole darn thing and start fresh. Thirty minutes later, I try to boot up, guess what, the same thing happens. Nothing past the splash screen. It's not like I can restore it to a past setting that worked since the OS is wiped clean. I've read about "faulty hardware" confusing the system, but nothing plugged in that I know of is faulty. Mouse, monitor, keyboard, po... Read more

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that I bought new about three months ago. I often put it into sleep mode at night so I won't have to totally reboot the next morning. A few days ago I forgot to plug it in overnight. The battery must have run completely down, since it had no power the next day. I plugged it in and powered it up like normal - but it only got to the "Smith family" intro page with the spinning dots that go round and round, waiting for the desktop screen to appear. Except it never does. Those dots never stop going round and round. I tried booting into safe mode (by holding down the Shift key) when it starts, but it only booted to a blue screen with the same spinning dots and no change or alternate screen. I removed and replaced the battery - no change.

I didn't do anything out of the ordinary the last night I used the laptop. If I can't even get into it or get to safe mode, what else is there? And this is a *new* computer! Is this a Toshiba thing or what?

Afternoon All, I have an Acer 8930G, it's knocking on some years (approx 7ish) and this is the first problem I have had with it. When i turn it on, the normal Acer screen shows up and then where it would normally load to windows it just blacks out. There is still power as the all the lights are still working and there is a white-ish light which looks inside the base of the screen. I have looked around on the web and have tried the flashlight on the screen and also removing battery / power cable and holding down the power button for a minute and rebuilding and trying again, but to no avail. I am able to get onto the BIOS screen, and it did look like the boot device in position 1 was the BD drive, I moved this back to the hard drive but still the same.... Does anybody have any ideas on what could be wrong?? Many Thanks In Advance Ross
