I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Should the solutions center work on my Z580? When I try to launch it I see the splash screen shown below. That is as far as I get. There appear to be various indications that the product should work (and various others suggesting that maybe it shouldn't) but I cannot find any user instructions for driving it, so I'm not sure whether it just cant work on my system or whether I have it set up incorrectly. Any advice welcomed.

I would have amended my post to add that I'm running Win 8.1 but I haven't managed to find the edit button yet  StopPress: I've found out how to edit a post but now I'm trying to work out how to delete one. Bear with me, I'll get there eventually

Answer:z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

Click here for more information on the preloaded softwares on the Z580 and click here for more information on the Lenovo Companion.

Hope this helps.

I've just joined the multitudes who have purchased windows 8 only to discover it's a "Nightmare". A real disaster!
I am trying to find out if I can make it usable. There are a couple of free applications online which when installed are said to make the windows 8 desktop look like windows 7( Bringing back the "Start" button and allowing you to have the windows 7 desktop along with a few other things which make it easier to move about. Has anyone tried any of these applications? and if so, do they just change the appearance of the desktop or do they actually make windows 8 more user friendly and more manageable? If you have any recommendations I would be grateful to hear them.
"Any" comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I bought my notebook in summer of 2007. I have problem with the reports and solutions of windows. Although i am in the internet i can't see the solution. I will give you and the windows with the messages which say. If you find solution, please inform me.Thanks.

Answer:reports and solutions of windows

I'm having the same problem for quite a while now on Vista Home Premium. Problem Reports and Solutions can send error reports (I've already sent about 1400 of them), notifies me about new solutions to some problems it has found, but NEVER let me see the solution itself. How frustrating!!

I get the same gray screen as argi18.

Now some info about my investigations so far:
- it is not the firewall (tried with and without firewall running without success).
- It is not the internet connection (my laptop with the same version of vista connected to the same modem doesn't have that problem)
- Installing SP1 didn't solve the problem (I was secretly hoping it would...)

I really find this annoying because it is a quite helpful function. Also, looking over the internet for a solution, I found that more and more users are having this problem...

So please, HELP!!!!

There are a number of things that can break Windows Update in XP, including performing a repair/reinstall. For a quick fix, do this:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the following text:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml2.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
end

Save the file to your desktop as UpdatesFix.cmd (you'll have to click the "Save As Type... dropdown and select "All Files" before you click the Save button). If you'd rather not try the batch file, you can enter each line in the Run box one at a time and click OK after each one.

Doubleclick the UpdatesFix.cmd file; a command window will open, and you'll see a series of dialogue boxes saying DLLRegisterServer in *.dll succeeded. Click OK to step through the process. Once all the dll's have been successfully reregistered, visit the Windows Update site. Often you will have to download and install Windows Installer 3.1 and the Windows Genuine Advantage tool before you can download any more updates.

On rare occaissions, a reregister will fail; in such cases, run sfc /scannow (have your OS CD handy) and then try again.

Other times, the reregistering will succeed, but Windows Update still fails. This can occur if the temporary folders of Windows Update have been corrupted.... Read more

Answer:Windows Update Solutions

Thanks for the info! I did not even know I had a problem with windows update untill I read the post you sent me. I got Windows Update fix no problem, it went quite smooth. But I still am having problems with my Windows Installer package. When I try and get the new update for iTunes it will not load and the message i get is:
iTunes + QuickTime
"There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." How do I even check to see if I have the Windows installer package? I have searched for it on my laptop and have found nothing. There is no error code or anything with the iTunes message and it just closes the window after exiting the instillation window. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had recently bought a laptop, it came with 1gig of ram and vista basic, when I had played games, I would get random lag intervals every min for a few seconds, no matter the quality I would set the game at it would happen. After doing Some task management I had learned that audiodg.exe was spiking in its cpu every min, went online learned how to lower the quality, it stopped spiking, but i was still recieving the random lag intervals. So I figured an upgrade was called for, I upgrade my operating system to home premium and threw in two fresh sticks of 1gig of ram ddr2. totaling it to 2gigs. and haveing a clean sweep of my operating system. This did not solve my solution, I had notice a dramitic increase in how fast my games loaded, and how they handeled huge areas, but lowering or raiseing the quality did not resolve the issue, redid the audiodg.exe with no solutions. I went on farther to investigate and learned of a file or service called WLAN Autoconfig, apprenty this trys to detect a connection every 60 secs staling and spiking your system dramitically for a few seconds. I disabled this because i used a ethernet cable. This seemed to work, for awhile, after a bit. it came back, everything I investigate to doesnt seem to work. I just want to be able to play my games with no lag. It just feels like something is spiking in the back ground and I cant see, I have done all the virus scans, got nothing, and all my drivers are updated. Lowering the quality of display (aero an... Hey guys,

my Computer won't shut down. If you try to shut down the LED on the Powerbutton will continue to be on and you can clearly hear all the fans inside running. It's stuck in Limbo. Only after pressing the power button for a view seconds it properly shuts down.

I've spent weeks looking for a solution, now I'm just really disappointed by Windows and myself for not getting this fixed. I really hope you guys can help me.

this is my system:
Intel Core i5 2500k CPU
Asus P8P67 Rev 3. Mainboard
Kingston 16GB HyperX DDR3 RAM
Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD
2nd 500GB HDD
Corsair 500W CM9 PSU

this is what I've tried so far:
Disabled the Windows 10 hibernate / fast startup feature
Tried to downgrade the Intel Management Engine drivers to a 9.xx Version
Tried multiple versions of Intel Rapid Storage (now uninstalled it)
Tried multiple Intel Chipset drivers
Tried to disable every non-windows service to see if it's a software issue.
Replaced PSU

I'm done with it Tried to find a solution with Windows and Asus but both keep saying this is not a common issue.

I would really appreciate some help.

Answer:Help: Windows 10 won't shut down - I run out of solutions :(

Hello Julian

Some questions to help us troubleshoot:

1. If you go into safe mode will it shut down then? - this might point to it being a driver issue
2. Can you perform a restart?
3. Can you go into sleep mode?
4. Have you looked into the BIOS to see if you have the latest version and updated if needed?

Please post back answers and we can try to help further.

I recently updated to Win10 from Win7, and like many others, couldn't get my PC to stay asleep. Found this solution at "gizmo's freeware" (How to Fix a Computer that Keeps Waking Up | Gizmo's Freeware). Turned out to be a network card that was the culprit. Hope this will be of help, as it was for me.

HiThis morning my computer decided to start restarting as soon as windows is loaded (just before the welcome screen) - till yestereday evening everything was working fineI've tried both hiren's and ulitmate boot cd, and checked both partitions and boot records. There were some errors, which where successfully fixed (after re-checking, no error showed up)I also attached the sata hard drive (1.5tb) to another computer and ran both scandisk and chkdsk, with successfull results. However, when I plug my sata hard disk back and try to boot from it, xp keeps restarting.I've also tried safe mode and last known good config; and does the same exact behaviour.I tried repressing f8 to disable the autoreboot option in the advanced menu, but it still reboots despite having switched it off, so basically i can not google the bsod error if any.One weird thing is that when i boot via the xp cd and run the recovery console, the C: drive that starts with is unavailable. I get the error "An error occurred during directory enumeration" when I try to view directories via DIR.When I've tried chkdsk (with or without parameters) I got the "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems" error...One last thing i've tried is to boot from xp cd, and try to reinstall windows on same partition (so that I get the Repair option) but when the partitions are shown, only 1x EMPTY unpartitioned hard disk is displayed... yet on other computers (laptop and p4) i can access the folders/data withou... My laptop fell from the couch this evening. Everything on the screen froze, so I was forced to do a hard shut down. I restarted, and that was when the trouble started. After remaining on a black blank screen for a while, it slowly begins the process of starting Windows. The Windows logo appears and the loading bar moves, but nothing happens. I let it sit like that for a good long while, and it looked like it had finished. It went to a black screen again, and then shut itself down instantly and restarted. The process started over again. I can't get past that point.

I have tried:

1. Selecting "Last Known Good Configuration"
2. Starting in Safe Mode
3. Running Recovery Console. I became confused and stopped, not wanting to destroy anything.
4. Restarting again and again.
5. Choosing to start windows normally.

I do not have a backup of the files on my PC. That's my own fault of course, but nonetheless I would not like to lose them. I need my computer to do a multitude of daily tasks, so the prospect of waiting is a frightening one. I just installed the updated ZoneAlarm firewall on my computer too. ZL has given me problems before, though not of this magnitude. Could that be a possible cause? Is there anything I can do to save my computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

It's not clear what particular change you're trying to make. MSFT Keyboard Layout Creator may help, but it really depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

Hey Ya'll. I googled this more than a few times throughout the past year. But I don't know if anyone else is having the same exact issue as me. None of the search results really seemed to line up and this is getting too frustrating.
Basically, this is my problem.
In late 2015, November or December, my Windows 7 was having issues. A pop up came stating it wasn't legitimate. Now, I am fairly confident it was, I've never illegally downloaded it but I'm also not that tech savvy. It's possible when i got the computer years ago my friend who set me up illegally downloaded it. Regardless, I was getting free updates to Window's 10. After the pop ups turned egregious and issues with my computer (in Windows 7) increased, I took the upgrade.
Windows 10 still claimed that this was an illegitimate copy. I ignored it and accepted the "Activate Windows 10" watermark for months on before I finally bought a copy. I just want to stress that, I did eventually buy a copy online, thinking it would stop my issues.
Apart from the water mark, my computer will frequently (almost every minute, if not a minute and ten or so seconds) auto refresh / deselect me from all programs I am using. If I'm playing a game (Overwatch) I am sometimes minimized, but usually it just deselects me from the game and I need to click on it again for it to work.
Other examples are with the File Explorer. Every time the computer auto refreshes, the File Explorer closes. This happens with the Groove Music App as well.

I've read tons and think cloning is the only way to go. I'm hoping to find an appl to clone XP, 7 and Linux Mint (for now) to partitions and data to DVD and/or thumbdrives.

Forums on every site show problems w/every appl: Acronis, Windows built in, Macrium, etc. I don't know if hardware issues would cover some of the problems but many posters are well versed professionals so I doubt user error is always to blame.

Looking for suggestions from users who have successfully cloned to new hardware for Linux and Windows. I figure is anything dies besides just the HD I'll be covered. Currently believe Paragon BU & Recovery in it's various flavors, outclasses Acronis. But it doesn't cover Linux OS's.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Windows and Linux Backup solutions

My own experience is that Clonezilla can't be beat when it comes to do image backups and/or clones of Linux filesystems. Some have also used that for Windows filesystems, but my own preference is Macrium Reflect.

I do know that all the major Backup vendors keep talking about including Linux filesystem backup/restore in their products, but I don't know that any of them have actually done that. Since Clonezilla does the job for me, I haven't bothered to find out.

If you have already downloaded and installed Windows Installer 3.1 from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...fc-5f56-4a38-b838-de776fd4138c&DisplayLang=en

and you're still having problems with Windows Update, you can try the following:

Step 1: Re-register the related Windows Update files:
================================
1. Click Start, Run, and input the following commands in the Run textbox: (you can make this simpler by copy/pasting one line at a time, then click OK after each one, then click Start, Run again and repeat with the next command)

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml2.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll

You will receive a message stating the process succeeded after you input each command.

After that, visit the Windows Update site again. Is the issue resolved?

If the issue persists, the local Windows Update engine files may have been corrupted. I suggest you take the following steps to rename the corrupted files and see if that resolves the issue.

Step 2: Rename the temporary folders of Windows Update.
==================
This issue can occur if the temporary folders of Windows Update have been corrupted. You can refer to these steps to rename these folders. Be assured the folders will be created again when you visit the Wi... Read more

Hello Windows 7 Expert.

Below are my Windows 7 annoyances which I am sure must have a solution. I did not experience these annoyances under XP. I have lived with these annoyances for a while but am now looking for a solution.

1) In most Folders I want the files to be sorted Alpha Numerically. There is one Folder specifically I want sorted by Modified date. When I sort this specific Folder by Modified Date all other Folders are now sorted by modified date. How can I set sorts to be specific for each folder and not globally.

2) When I delete a file in a folder it doesn't disappear unless I hit the refresh button. This happens consistently when I navigate to the folder by right clicking a desktop shortcut and selecting Open File Location. If I open a folder regularly and delete files they do disappear immediately.

3) When I have a file on my desktop and I modify it Windows 7 changes it's position on the desktop to some default position. I would like the file to remain in the same location on the desktop after I have modified it.

4) I often do presentations and when I hoop up to some projectors my icons on my desktop get scrambled. Next time I restart my computer all my icons remain scrambled. To resolve this I always save a System Restore Point before a presentation. After the presentation I run the System Restore. I have noticed that the icons on my desktop are not always in the same positions as the original Restore Point. It's fairly close, like 90%, but not... Read more

Answer:Looking for solutions to several small Windows 7 Annoyances

The folder sort issue in #1 is probably due to the issues discussed/demonstrated in this post/thread:
Question about Windows 7 Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

The repeated use of System Restore is probably the cause of several of your other items. The System Restore process is far from perfect and (in my opinion) should only be used in emergencies. Use a tool like Desktop Restore to put you desktop objects (shortcuts, files, folders) back in place.

Maybe other forum members have suggestions for your other items/annoyances.

I posted about a week ago about my Windows XP home edtition not being genuine.I have contacted Microsoft support (India) they do not even know what I am talking about. It was a waste. So I want to share what I have found out and where you can go to get some help.1. Windows Genuine Advantage Validation tool was most likely downloaded with a security update from Microsoft.  2. It cannot be removed from add or remove programs (not even by a back door method)3. Microsoft is very aware of the problem and have set up a spcific forum to address this issue. LINK  http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=442&SiteID=254. They do not seem to have a solution to fix my problem. I have been working with them for the last four days with no resolution. However they have esculated it up the chain of techies, and they are trying to resolve the issue.5. If you are having a problem with Genuine validation check the forum out some people have solved their problems. So far it is the best place to start. Good Luck

Answer:Your Windows XP is not Genuine  SOLUTIONS

Exactly what is the "problem"?  The mere fact that you can't remove Windows Genuine Advantage from your Add or Remove Programs list is not what I would consider a problem.

Answer:Wifi and bluetooth is not working after upgarding windows 7 home basic to windows 8,,Z580

Hi hemantrocks1990,

First lets check if the drivers for the Wifi and Bluetooth is installed properly under the Windows 8 environment.  On the desktop press the windows key + c, then click on settings, then click on control panel.  Under control panel switch to large icons for view and go to system.  Under system we will have device manager available.

Please check if you can see the category Bluetooth, and the wireless adapter under Network adapters category.  If they are present, go to the properties of wireless adapter and check if the driver version is the latest and if the drivers are installed properly.  The latest Bluetooth driver version for Windows 8 is 12.0.0.1671/8.0.0.206 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.  The latest Wireless driver version for Windows 8 15.5.0.42/6.30.59.26/10.0.0.67 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.

If the drivers are installed properly, then we have to check if we are able to turn on and off the bluetooth or the wireless adapter.  Hit Fn+F5 and see if an interface comes up that gives you radio buttons to turn off or turn on your wireless and bluetooth adapters.  If no interface comes up, you may need to install the Lenovo Energy Management program to enable the hotkeys for turning on bluetooth and the wireless. Here is the link for the Lenovo Energy Management program.

Hey All This is my 1st post here.. I have Z580 laptop with One Key Recovery Option... I have dual boot in it - Windows 7 Home Basic and WIndows Server 2008 R2 I want to create a back up image file of both at the same time, using One Key Recovery, so that I can restore back in future, if need be 1. So, I will log in to, say, WIndows 7 and take the back up image.. Will that take an image for both OS at the same time? Basic question here is does it image of the Hard disk or each OS.. 2. Or do I have to take a separate image of both after logging into respective OS? 3. If answer to 1 is YES, will that restore both the systems at the same time in future using the One Key Recovery solution? 4. If the answer to 2 is YES, can i restore both the systems individually just by using the One Key Recovery solution? Br, Ajay Maheshwari

My brother's PC is having some quite terminal problems. I can't try anything on the PC myself because I'm at university and the PC is at home, so when I say "I", I actually mean "I've instructed him to..." .

It boots to the "Windows XP" screen and proceeds to load Windows, but when it loads the GUI and switches to the light-blue backdrop just before the login window, it reboots itself.

Safe mode does exactly the same. I'm thinking it's a possible hardware fault, the only PCI card he uses is a Linksys Wireless card, so I'll ask him to take that out and try booting again.

I've booted to a variant of BartPE (created by a friend of a friend) which has a remote registry editor, so that I can schedule an Avast! boot-scan, but this throws an error. I didn't get the exact error because he was getting slightly frustrated at that point (I'd already got him to download the ISO and burn it, then edit the BIOS boot order), I'll try and get it tomorrow.

Anybody have any other thoughts?

This problem happened to me already once a few months ago, and I wish I wrote down how I fixed it now..

I need to install a newer Java, but anything using windows Installer will just hang up at 0% then usually I will have to shutdown processes to even get whatever to close.

I have gone to Services and make sure the msiexec service is running and should run at startup (tried delayed start too).

I have registered and unregistered the service. I have run system file checker and found nothing. I have run some FixIt thing off of MS website.

I think these are most of the typical solutions I have seen suggested when googling, but I could be missing something.

I found this other thread on these forums: Windows Installer - Simple Fix that worked for me.

...but my registry doesn't have the path they are talking about.

I am fine up to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENT CONTROL SET\SERVICES\MSIserver (with different capitalization) but then there is no WOW64 subfolder. I am running Win7 64bit with SP1.

I have not tried booting into safe mode or anything like that yet. I think I tried that last time and it didn't work and anyhow I don't want to have to boot into safe mode any time I want to (un-)install stuff.

What else can I do? Thanks so much.

Dear friends,
I request you all to pitch in with your experiences regarding the 1)problems (if at all) you faced with Windows Explorer while using the Windows 7 and any solutions or fixes you applied to overcome them! Your assessment as to the cause of the problem is vital!

I am posting this specific thread concerning a freezeing or hanging W-E (Win.Explorer), as this appears to be a running thread from the days of Win.XP (I have not used Win.98).

Different folks have suggested different causes and different fixes! Yet, there is no glossing over the fact that the prob. persists.

I have a gut feeling that with all of you having your say, a consensus may emerge as to what are the more common causes to look for and the specific fixes to be applied vis-a-vis Win.7! I crave your involvement and you may take off from this thread started in middle of 2008 by a sacred soul (all souls are sacred!) : Right click hangs Explorer.exe on Windows 7

Regards and thanks,
Sreedhav.

Answer:Any solutions to a hanging(freezing) windows explorer?

one main reason there is explorer crashes or freezes are due to programs using the context menu or the *shell*.I use a program (as i am sure many users use) shellxview by nirsoft to correct issues, please read the quote from there website.

Quote:
Description
Shell Extensions are in-process COM objects which extends the abilities of Windows operating system. Most shell extensions are automatically installed by the operating system, but there are also many other applications that install additional shell extension components. For example: If you install WinZip on your computer, you'll see a special WinZip menu when you right-click on a Zip file. This menu is created by adding a shell extension to the system.
The ShellExView utility displays the details of shell extensions installed on your computer, and allows you to easily disable and enable each shell extension.

ShellExView can be used for solving context-menu problems in Explorer environment. For more information, read the following article: Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers

Hey guys.

Recently I found that my MSConfig will not open on my PC. I get the error message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item". I am, of course, an admin on this account.

Googling lead me to try running "sfc /scannow" which reported no errors. I also used CCleaner to scan for registry problems, which reported no errors. Both Anti-malware Bytes and Windows Security Essentials reported no errors.

What worries me is that many of the threads online receive the error message "Windows cannot access..." for other applications and they use MSConfig to fix it. In my case, I receive the error message for MSConfig, and all my other applications are fine.

One more thing that worries me is that my date and time settings simply do not open. No error message, no nothing. These problems could or could not be mutually exclusive, I'm not sure.

I've ran out of ideas. Any help? I can run any programs or logs needed

Thanks

Okay, I'm having an interesting issue. A desktop that was upgraded from Windows 7 64bit to Windows 10 64bit using the normal upgrade path. I forgot to uninstall my internet security software (Comodo) so I had to fight the "no wifi after upgrade" issue. I got that resolved by following the steps others have found.

However, now my wifi is not saving the password nor is it remembering the "Connect Automatically" settings. That is, I uncheck the box for all other available connections, (even the one I want to automatically connect to eventually), but after reboot, the box is checked again.

Solutions I've tried.
1. Uninstall the wifi adapter in Device Manager. Unplug device. Reboot to Windows 10 desktop. Plug adapter back into the USB slot. Setup wifi connection with automatically connect checked. Reboot and no automatic connection.
2. In Manage WiFi Settings, remove any "known networks" from the list. The Forget button is not available in the popup list from the tasktray. Reboot. Reset. Reboot and no automatic connection.

Are there any other tricks I may try that I've missed in my search?

Answer:Windows 10 not automatically connecting (I've read other solutions)

I had not noticed, but the Edimax Wireless Utility was installed. I could not find an uninstaller for it, so I quit the application, renamed its application folder (C:\Program Files(x86)\edimax.old), rebooted and the wifi came alive and connected properly.

Hello, I'm using windows 7, 64 bit.
after a big mistake of trying to use an old version of partition magic and let her do some "bug fix" - my comp can't load windows.

I am writing this message after 9 hours of reading forums, trying many things..

I am opening a new thread for a probably known problem because i have already tried everything i have found: bootsect, bootrec, startup recovery several times.

I really don't know what kind of details is important because while trying to fix it i saw many errors and messages so just ask and i will write everything that is needed.

I will tell you that first the problem that the startup recovery has found was: boot configuration is corrupt (error 0x490). after a few solutions (?) it now shows: system volume on disk is corrupt (error 0x3).

note: I cant even install windows again. first he didnt recognized my harddrive - only a small partition of 102mb (what is it?) or he found a win7 installation but he wrote that the partition size is 0mb.

should i try to rebuild the MGR again?
Is my winPE disk can help here?

I will appreciate any advice!

Answer:BootMGR is missing - windows 7 (after trying the common solutions)

and if it's not the right forum just tell me where to post it or how to move this message. thanks!

I've just upgraded my T430s to Windows 10 and Dolby home Theater v4 no longer runs. The only solution I can find leads me to this page: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103618 This page tells me that a different dolby software will be available via my computer's driver profile page - it is not. Called tech support, they told me to go to Dolby. Went to the Dolby website, and they pointed me to my computer's drive profile page (the support page). Windows 8 already comes with Windows Defender turned on by default, but as far as Windows 7 users are concerned, turning to a third-party software solution to protect their PCs is the only solution.

A new round of tests performed by German institute AV-TEST reveals that Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) customers have a wide array of anti-virus solutions to choose from, some of which can provide maximum protection in most of the cases.

The July/August round of tests put Bitdefender?s anti-virus products on the first place, with a maximum score of 6 points out of 6 in all three main categories, namely protection, performance, and usability.

The same top score was also achieved by Kaspersky Lab, McAfee, Norton, and Bullguard, all of which managed to perform impressively well in this new test.

Free solutions not the best choice

If there?s anything important that can be seen in this chart is the performance of freeware anti-virus solutions, all of which obtained really disappointing scores in this new tests.

Panda Cloud Free is the software solution that scored the best in the free category, gaining 6 points for protection, 5.5 points for performance, and 5.5 points for usability.

Avira received 6, 4.5, and 6 points, respectively, while Avast did even worse and scored 3.5 points for protection, 4.5 points for performance, and 6 points for usability.

(Code 43) I tried various options including driver uninstall and then reinstall. It installs a generic driver. Then I tried updating it from local hard disk. It does not work. Then I again uninstalled and tried updating from Internet, It does something and then again gives same error. Finally I'm unable to use my BlueTooth. Please advises/help.

Select Browse My computer for drivers.

before I had win7. But I switched on win8 I can not turn on wifi or BT.and I do not have to turn it magager WiFI and BT. lenovo does not have a driver for it

Answer:Z580 windows 8 WIFI, BT

You must install the Windows 7 version of Lenovo Energy Manager for wifi or bluetooth to work.  The Windows 8 version does not allow you to use fn+f5.  Once you install the Windows 7 version, you can push fn+f5 and activate wifi or bluetooth.  There will be compatibility warnings, but it is the only way to turn on wifi and bluetooth at this time.  Do not reinstall the Windows 8 version until Lenovo updates the software, because you will eventually lose wifi or bluetooth again.  Also, you may need to use a program like Universal Extractor for the install files to extract properly. I hope this helps.  It took me lots of searching to find someone who figured this out.

hi leofrankly,

Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!

First try un-installing the synaptics driver under programs.

   > Go to Control Panel / Programs and features / uninstall a program,

Look for a snaptics Software and Lenovo Energy Management
and uninstall those two

Now download and install these drivers

Synaptics Touchpad Driver0mtp05w8.exe90.5MB

Lenovo Energy Managementem8.0.2.3.exe45.4MB

then try the Fn+F6. see if this will work

Hi everyone! Been doing some research but couldn't find a solution to my concern.  I purchased an SSD that I want to use to boot windows 7 from in my 2012 z580, along with an ultrabay.  It seems like the general concensus is it's best to place the SSD in the main drive, and if I want to, place the HDD in the ultrabay.  My questions are: 1)  Would I be able to simple run the recovery partition that's factory installed on the current HDD to install windows 7 on the SSD, and be done with it all?  (Being able to use the SSD as my main boot and "C" drive, and the HDD as a media/storage drive) 2)  Can I take out the HDD, install the SSD, leave the optical bay in and do a clean install of windows?  My research seems like the key for my license is in the UEFI Bios.  And if so, then 3) would I have to reinstall all the drivers for my z580 to function? Thanks for all the help!

Hello, I want to install Windows 7 on Lenovo Z580, but when I let the bios boot, they begin to run Windows 8, please help me :'(

Answer:Boot Windows 7 on Z580

HiThe two causes for this could be that either the usb/dvd is not bootable or you first have to select the usb device from f12 boot menu.See this guide on creating bootable diskhttp://www.google.co.in/url?q=http://bitsquad.co.in/2011/05/windows-7-bootable-usb/&sa=U&ei=CHXmUKv3...Or you could use softwares like microsoft windows to usb/dvd tool or novicorp wintoflash

On a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 Model 2151 Manufactured 5/6/2012

The computer will not boot. It defaults to the automatic Windows Repair menu.

When I first ran Windows Repair, it said that I have a corrupted mfewfpk.sys file, which is associated with McAfee Antivirus software.

Windows startup repair: ?cannot repair this computer automatically?.

I restored the system to the previous restore point and the one before that with no change.

In the command prompt, if sfc/scannow is chosen it says ?There is a system repair pending that requires reboot to complete. If I reboot the computer, I get the same message. I have done this multiple times. It's stuck in a loop.

When I tried to download a Windows 7 ISO file, Microsoft says to contact Lenovo.  Even if I am able to make a bootable Windows 7 USB drive, would I be able to fix the corrupted mfewfpk.sys file?

Hello! I'm thinking about updating my laptop to 8.1. I already had some experience with RTM which was released on MSDN and it was pretty unstable, I had issues with power management, overheating and Bluetooth - all of these worked properly on 8. Is there anyone with Z580 (or similar) with 8.1 on it? I'd like to know if something improved since then.

Answer:Windows 8.1 on Z580 - opinions

I just upgraded to 8.1 It's nice to know that this big update released day after RTM fixes some stuff. Unfortunately, I still have issues with power management. It worked well on both 8, and Linux, but not here. I get only 4h of battery life and my discharge rate is constantly jumping between 10W and 20W - on 8 it was 7-12W. I think it could be an issue with GPU drivers, because I remember having 20W+ discharge rate when using NVidia GPU on Windows 8. Anyone else has this issue?

Hi, I have a Z580 with an HDD that is going through a life ending experience. At the current time it does not boot. Although I have salveged most of the data off of it I would like to boot it one more time, in order to clone it. I have tried the repair tools, but they are not working. My repair disk relates to Windows 8 so that may explain why it is not working. I have access to the msdn Windows 8.1 install. I attempted to use that to do a reset, but the reset function provides the message that "the media inserted is not valid" even though this is the x64 version of the disk. I am at a loss how to proceed. Any suggestions? Given how well eveything has not worked so far, I am reticent to do a complete reinstall till I have the product key off the BIOS, but all the notes I find on this subject relate to running windows apps to obtain this, clearly something I cannot do right now.  In terms of replacing the HDD, can I simply clone the working hdd (assuming I get it to work) and then just replace, or is there anything else I need to worry about. I have gone through the forum but most of the discussion appears to relate to pre-windows 8.1 OS. Thanks

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:Z580 DyingHDD, windows 8.1

You should be downloading the Win 8.1 64 bit standard or home version.  Your product key should be automatically detected if the OS originally installed is Win 8.1.As to other thing to worry about is the OKR program. It may no longer work after the cloning process.

Hello Yesterday I've got myself a brand new z580. I picked the version with no system, as I already own a copy of Win8.Everything installed properly, but I'm having one extremely annoying problem that practically prevents me from using this laptop. I mean wireless internet... It connected without any problems just after the installation of Win8. Though after literally few minutes I ended up with the limited connectivity problem. I disconnected from the wireless network and connected again and it worked... for another 10-15 minutes. And it's happening all the time. I've been struggling with this problem since yesterday, so here are the things I've already tried:-installing WLAN drivers for Win8 from Lenovo - I get the message that "The setup program for the target device is not found",-downloading all important updates from Windows Update,-installing the chinese Lenovo drivers as I've seen it mentioned on these forums,-disabling IPv6 (through regedit),-disabling the IP Helper service,-disabling the option to let the system turn off the device to save power,-installing drivers for the WLAN from Windows Update. NONE of the above worked. I'm quite sure it's not the router problem, since the internet works perfectly fine on other 3 computers at home (one is XP and 2 are Win7). I'm totally clueless here and extremely annoyed because I actually can't use my new laptop due to this issue... I'd probably consider using Win7 instead, though my main cau... Read more

Answer:Yet another problem with z580 on Windows 8

Unfortunately this sounds like the same problem we are all experiencing.  There is no fix and the work around is to roll back the drivers.  It is not possible to get power management and wifi working together.  So if you need wifi then you need to eliminate the power management. See http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/S205-Windows-8-wireless-problem/td-p/884375

I'm sure some of you have seen unexplained crashes or errors popping up on your windows 10 device and you've tried searching for that long error code but found nothing helpful.
Is there a proper list for most, if not all, error codes and more importantly, their solutions?

Hello members,

This is my first post on SevenForums. I'm posting here because I found a similar thread but with a rather harsh solution, doing a repair install. Before I'm doomed to do the same I was hoping someone would like to take a look at my problem, solutions I tried and attached logs. And maybe give me some advise.

Problem
Since a few days Windows update suggests to install the same updates over and over. After installing the updates it offered the same updates again and again. I could see that the updates were installed in the update history overview. However as soon as I clicked on "look for updates" it gives me the error code: 80004002.

After trying all the solutions below I tried a system restore yesterday. I restored my system to the oldest possible restore point (June 28th, 2013) without success however. At this point it won't even offer me the 2 updates it did before. Moreover in the update history overview no updates are shown at all. When I try to look for updates I still get the error code 80004002.

Solutions tried
I tried all the solutions below that I found on the internet of Microsoft knowledge base. I tried these solution under several circumstances, under normal Windows startup, under diagnostic clean startup using msconfig.exe and under safe mode. None of them with success.

Sorry if all linked sites are in dutch, couldn't find them in English.

Hello everybody,

I am new to the forum and would like to use the collective expertise to solve the problem I have. I upgraded one of our older family computers from Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 in October. Evterything worked fine up to a few days before christmas, when the computer wouldn't connect to the net anymore. It is not a hardware problem, since the connection to the internet works fine with every other device in the household, an I tried a USB-network adapter.

Windows troubleshooting told me that my networkadapter didn't have an ip-configuration. I tried both wifi and lan, with the same result. Googling the problem, I spent about two days applying all the standard solutions:
- using netshell: resetting winsock, and ipv4 and ipv6
- unchecking ipv6 in the network adapter propterties
- deleting winsock and winsock2 in the registry
- switching off of firewall and antivirus scanner
- etc....

The current situation: in the properties of my network adapter I manually configured the IP connection; IP address of the machine (192.168.178.222; which ist outside the range my router automatically distributes); IP address of the standard gateway (my router 192.168.178.1), DNS-Server (one of the German T-Online public DNS-Servers, and as an alternate my router). If I ping my router or the manually configured DNS-Server with it's IP address, I get a 100% return. Yet it is not possible to ping an internet address or use a browser. Windows troubleshooting tells me, that the DNS-Ser... Read more

(Hey guys. I had previously posted a thread in "Windows 7" which was moved to the "Am I infected" section. My post became stagnant after the switch was made and I was hoping that a fresh post may yield more ideas. Old post here)

Thanks

Hello. I'm an owner of newly bought Lumia 550. There seems to be some issues with music player and the callendar.
1. Music player - when I unlock the phone it shows at the top music player with buttons "next" and "previous" but they seem not to work at all when I press them.
2. Callendar - I have built in outlook callendar. When I add something to the callendar it doesn't show it on the tile. I downloaded My callendar (I was using it at Lumia 435 and was glad it worked the way it did) but it kind of co-works with Outlook callendar. It's difficult to add anything new to My callendar since it jumps back to Outlook callendar. Is there any way of uninstalling Outlook callendar? I got used to My Callendar app very much. It was very helpful.

Answer:Music player and calendar question - Windows 10, any solutions?

2. No; you can't uninstall Outlook Calendar.

1. The function keys flash cards are gone. i tried every TVAP available for windows 8 and flash card support utility for other laptops but its not working. the falsh cards dont appear on the screen but all the keys work, except i can;t turn bluetooth and wifi on/off separetely.

2. bluetooth drivers: i couldn't find driver for this laptop so i used atheros bleutooth filter of another B series toshiba laptop which comes with windows 8 and bluetooth driver. now its working.

3. computer turns on when opening lid even if its shut down or hibernated. installed toshiba hardware driver i saw an option to turn on pc when opening lid tried both on/off no change

4. graphics nvidia used drivers from nvidia official site

5.toshiba sleep and charge has changed to shut down and charge probably related to problem #3, i turned usb sleep and charge off from the bios.

6. synaptics i used official drivers from their site

other than that everything works fine.

This is how it work in Win 8

>2. bluetooth drivers: i couldn't find driver for this laptop so i used atheros bleutooth filter of another B series toshiba laptop which comes with windows 8 and bluetooth driver. now its working.

Yes, some Win 7 drivers works in connection with Win 8

>3. computer turns on when opening lid even if its shut down or hibernated. installed toshiba hardware driver i saw an option to turn on pc when opening lid tried both on/off no change

Here you should perform a complete shutdown in Windows 8
In Windows 8, when shutting down a computer, actually a hybrid shutdown is performed by default.

Hi everyone,

I see that many Cedar Trail devices (Intel Atom N2600 with Intel GMA 3600/Power SGX545) run Windows 8 quite well due to its dual core architecture. However, when using the Intel's currently supplied GMA 3600 driver (dated 1/2012), all Windows 8 Metro apps crash when attempting to run them. I cold use Microsoft's default display driver, but with that one, I'm limited to 1024 x 768 and sleep won't work.

So far, there is no word from Intel on whether new GMA 3600 drivers for Windows 8 will emerge. Asus thinks that new drivers will never be possible. However, it appears that some Atom Z2760 devices like Acer's W510 may be powered by GMA 3600 / SGX545 after all. Of note, Samsung's Z2760-powered Series 5 tablet has some Intel GMA drivers available for Windows 8 via this link.

I figured I'd try them on a Fujitsu Q552, which has GMA 3600. However, no luck -- the error message I get with Windows 8 Pro RTM is "this driver does not support this version of Windows" which seems weird given that I'm running Windows 8 Pro.

I'm not sure if the INF can be modified to support Cedar Trail devices, particularly since the GPU appears to be the same, albeit at a different clock speed (just like GMA500 vs. GMA600). Does anyone have experience with this? I remember seeing this forum about some modded drivers that XDleader555 made for GMA500/600 -- interestingly, some versions of EMGD drivers (like 1.10) seem to work well with GMA500 devices like Fujitsu's UH900 with Window... Microsoft's offers to users yielded results: Windows 10 installations for corporate users are constantly increasing and have already reached roughly 25 percent worldwide. That's why the experts at AV-TEST decided to examine 12 corporate solutions for Windows 10.

Protection for corporate networks: 12 security solutions under Windows 10 put to the test.

Client server security for Windows 10: While only 2 products reached the maximum number of points, an additional 4 in fact achieved excellent results at 17 points.

Detection of malware samples: Throughout all the tests, only the two products from Kaspersky Lab and Symantec each achieved 100-percent detection.

Answer:Endpoint Solutions for Corporate Networks under Windows 10 Put to the Test

And here are their respective protection percentages (Enterprise solutions):
The results are mostly not surprising.
However, usually the performance and usability need not be given much weightage for calculating the 'total protection' (here, they mean total points, but for many viewers, that's the final verdict), except when the performance issues are such that they make way for missed threats or the host becomes difficult to use at important times. Experiences help here.
For me, the main protection score is some info to add to my AV encyclopedia

Hello. I have am having an issue the last few days while starting Windows 7 Professional. When I am not on my computer for several hours; I notice when Windows 7 starts, I am getting a black screen. Normally, I have my desktop up and running most of the time each day using it. Let me explain? ??normally? after I get the Windows?s animated flag to be created at the beginning of Windows 7 startup, I normally get a half-second black screen, then I get the Welcome/Logon screen with the default blue Windows 7 background. Yes, this is normal for all of us. What has been happening lately is that I get stuck at the half-second black screen, never getting to the Welcome/Logon screen and no mouse curser either. Again, this happens when I do not have my computer running for several hours. I have waited over 10 minutes while at the black screen and I never get out of it. I wait for the Welcome/Logon screen to appear and it doesn?t. I know from past experience, usually some sort of updating may be happening during this period before the Welcome/Logon screen? ?but yet I KNOW WITH WINDOWS 7, the ?updating? occurs FOLLOWING the Welcome/Logon screen with the messages in the middle of the Windows 7 blue background. (But no Windows Updates are happening however.) Now if I hit my reset button on my tower while I am in the black screen waiting, I am able to get to the Windows 7 Welcome/Logon screen after a reboot.

Answer:A Windows 7 Startup Issue, This IS Unusual -- Any Ideas or Solutions?

Check your logs to see if they reveal anything, following the troubleshooting steps outlined in this post: Computer lags every couple seconds

Make sure your drivers are up to date by checking optional Windows Updates, then in Device manager Automatically update the Display driver: Driver Install - Device Manager

Next check the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or video card for a newer driver.

You could have boot sector corruption causing the issue. Try rebooting and press the F8 key repeatedly, choose Repair My Computer, click through to Startup Repair to run it a few times to see if it finds anything. If you don't have the Repair console on F8, make a Repair CD: System Repair Disc - Create

If these fail and you have access to a Win7 installation DVD, try a Repair Install as a last resort before clean reinstalling to wiped HD: re-install windows 7

Answer:windows 7 problem reports and solutions .. Not sending problems

Check in the Action Center, under Maintenance. Look at Settings and Check for solutions.

Personally I don't think it makes any difference if you send the problem reports or not, so I've disabled it.
I'd worry more about the actual errors than that the problem reports aren't sent.

Windows 10 upgrade as easy it seems may sometimes turn ugly for many users , fortunately windows provide us with error codes so that proper solution and reporting tasks could be done accordingly. Keeping in mind the number of requests from members for a solution to an error code generated during the upgrade, i have compiled a list of possible error codes which may pop up during the upgrade with proper solution as mentioned and reported with verified solutions on Microsoft web forums and official troubleshooting pages.
Community members can help extend this list. Code: 0xC1900101 - 0x20004 - Causes: This is generally caused by out-of-date drivers. Possible Solutions: Uninstall antivirus applications/ Remove all unused SATA devices/ Remove all unused devices and drivers/Update drivers.Code: 0xC1900101 - 0x2000c - Cause: This is generally caused by out-of-date drivers. Possible Solution: Disconnect all devices that are connected to the system, except for the mouse, keyboard and display/ Contact your hardware vendor to obtain updated device drivers/ Ensure that "Download and install updates (recommended)" is accepted at the start of the upgrade process.Code: 0xC1900101 - 0x20017, Cause: Windows was not able to migrate the driver, resulting in a rollback of the operating system.

Read more

Hi there - I purchased a new Z580 last week, Windows 7 was applying some updates earlier today and gave the usual message at the end during shutdown showing the progress of the updates being applied (e.g 20 of 38) along with the message not to unplug or switch off the laptop. Unfornatunately my son pressed the power button before all the updates were complete and windows will now not load. Can you please advise whether it is possible to go back to the factory settings either using the OneKey Recovery or some other method? I had not created a backup as it I have only used the laptop twice since purchasing. Thank you

Answer:Z580 Failure during Windows Update

When you press power button start pressing F8 till advanced boot option turns up. Then navigate to repair your computer and press enter. Then wait till computer boots to repairing environmenr. Then either do a startup repair or a system repair to any point. If this also does not start, then do a one key recovery.

I have a Lenovo Z580 that came pre-installed with Windows 7.  I would like to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 without destroying any of the partitions so that if I do not like Windows 8.1 I can use the recovery feature to reinstall Windows 7 and all original drivers.  I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere in the forums.   I do understand that there is not a direct path to upgrade from Windows 7 to 8.1.  You have to upgrade to Windows 8 first.  However, I have never been a fan of OS upgrades.  I intend on doing a fresh 8.1 install.  My data is backed up.

Answer:Lenovo Z580 Upgrading From Windows 7 to 8.1

hi wwhsgrad2002,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you are planning to upgrade from Windows 7 and thinking about having a backup that would let you go back to WIndows 7 anytime,

If I were in your post, Since I still have Windows 7 I can use the One key Recovery 7 which still has the Create Recovery Disc option.

I would create a set of Recovery Disc then proceed with the upgrade,
It is hard to say that the recovery Option built to the hard drive may or may not have an issue after OS upgrades.

So while in Windows 7, Create you Windows 7 Recovery Disc then proceed with your upgrades.

Hope this helps

I have a Idea Pad Z580 laptop running on Windows 8.1 and want to change to Windows 7. This, I believe involves the UEF system which is running on GPT. This has to be changed to MBR. How does one do this? (legacy bios - MBR)
At the same time, I would like to install a new hard drive. This is an SSD. I am hoping that if I install a new SSD hard drive the computer will ask the question -  do I want GPT or MBR thus allowing me to install a fresh Windows 7 under MBR.
Many thanks
