I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Dell Latitude D620 Laptop. I went off on a business trip without my power cord so bought a non-Dell cord at a local Radio Shack. When I first powered it up I got a message something like"hey, this is a non-Dell power cord" etc., etc. The cord powered the laptop but would not charge the battery which was ok for my purpose at the time.

I've now plugged up my Dell power cord and it will not charge the battery now either. Evidently the unit still thinks I'm using the non-Dell cord? Is there a setting I need to change to get it to recongnize the Dell cord?

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Power Adapter not charging laptop battery

Try reinstalling the battery. Also try running the unit without the battery but with the dell power cord, then install the battery again. I haven't heard of this problem before, it seems very specific to Dells. If you don't get much help here maybe try the Dell Support Forum, the folks there are pretty good at this type of stuff.

Hi, So out of the blue my Yoga 13 seized up while sitting at the start menu in Windows 8.1. I had to kill the local svc host which had accumulated over 2GB of ram... just so I could shutdown the machine,  but when I shutdown some craziness started. The power wouldn't turn off even after 20 minutes. I held it down forever and finally it did turn off (maybe the shutdown was incredibly prolonged). I did also flash the bios after this craziness, to the one on the suggested download site (version 55).  At any rate, that's when the problems really started: I got the plugged in not charging issue in windowsThe battery charging light no longer turns on when plugged in (though the battery is charging). The novo button doesn't work.Unauthorized battery messagePower button wasn't responsive when off. It took several minutes for it to register. I of course have tried, from the forums: Letting the battery run down to zero/Shutting down the power from the bios. The latter fixed the unautorized battery problem.Uninstalling/Reinstalling Lenovo energy management. This does allow the battery icon in windows to show charging above 90%... sometimes.Turned off fast boot in windows and bios. Hi Guys, I have had to change my battery, got a brand new DELL battery but I can't get it to charge...I'm running Windows 10 PRO. I have tried the fixes listed above but unfortunately NONE has solved my problem. Any suggestions?

Answer:XPS 12 9Q23 Power Charging Disabled / Plugged in, NOT CHARGING

Hi DAEMONROD.
Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi. I have an IdeaPad Z565 and the battery is not charging. I thought it was the A/C power adapter, but everytime I insert the plug into the computer the battery indicator blinks three times and then gives up. It happens every single time. When the adapter is plugged, each time, battery indicator blinks 3 times then stop. When I remove the battery, it doesn't do "anything".It only does the blinking with the battery on.When I move cable adapter "while plugged" the battery indicator blinks 3 times then stop.Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!

Just replaced the battery in my XPS 1340 and found out I have charging issues. When I plug in a charger, Windows sees it but won't charge the old total depleted battery, instead, runs off ac power. Tried a different charger and a new battery with 30% charge but same results. As a last chance effort, I replaced the male prong power adapter in the computer. Now Windows doesn't see the charger and will not run on ac.
Is there something in the Bios that needs to be done to fix this or am I to assume it's a motherboard issue and retire this little workhorse.

Answer:Battery not charging after power adapter replacement

Dead batteries cannot be charged. Remove the dead battery and try using just the original dell adapter that came with the laptop alone. You cannot use other models adapters or batteries.

I am having Inspiron-6400 (XP SP3) laptop. 2 years old. Suddenly I am getting the following message for the past two days:
"Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."
That error message comes when I plug in the AC adapter to go to AC from battery.
It results in Battery not charging. That is a big problem. The tray-icon just shows 'On AC Power' and the 'Charging' indication does not appear any more.
A related message is also seen when I reboot the laptop, at the start itself. That message adds a suggestion by saying 'Try to reseat the power adapter'. Reseating it does not help. Though, a couple of times it helped. So I am not sure what this mechanical / reseating thing has to do with this error.
Overall, it is frustrating. It will be great if someone can help me with the exact solution for this, other than going to Dell requesting for paid-service support.

Hello,

I've had no problems with the laptop yet, except for the AC adapter.
One thing I noticed is that it barely charges enough to keep the laptop alive, especially during games or virtual machines.

But that's not really a big deal, it's just annoying once in a while since I'm using it for school and I sometimes have to turn it off just so that the battery can charge a bit. But you'll get used to that.

But the second problem is way worse.
Sometimes when I connect my AC adapter (even without the laptop connected), it might cause a power outage and I'll have to switch the circuit breaker. It has already happened for the second time within four months and I'm pretty sure that there's a problem with the adapter.

I'm not a native english speaker, so I might not understand everything.

Answer:Satellite C70 - AC Adapter not charging enough & causing power outage

Somehow the whole story sounds strange to me.
First of all the AC adaptor should provide enough power for battery charging even running some heavy performance applications like game.

Second issue sounds also very strange and I guess there must be some kind of Ac adaptor malfunction.
I would recommend you to contact the Toshiba service guys in your country in order to check the AC adaptor.

In case of hardware malfunction, the part should be replaced. Is warranty valid?
In such case the part should be replaced free of charge.

Hello, so I am having a problem with my Lenovo charger. It won't charge my computer at all! When I plug it in, the battery icon flashes. I have tried many other outlets to check if it was a problem with my outlet, butIt's definitely not. Hi, I have a Yoga 13 bought in May of this year. Other than the ever present fan noise/heat problem I haven't had any other big issues till date (not that is it not frustrating..even NBFC doesn't really solve the problem). Anyway since yesterday my batter charge never goes beyond 10% ("plugged in but not charging"). If adapter is unplugged the system displays a blue strip message "Your battery is running low. You might want to plug in your PC" and If i dont plug in the system powers off eventually. The power plan I have is set to "Balanced" mode. Last night before putting the laptop in sleep mode I checked the CPU temperature using NBFC and it was showing 80 deg celcius!!. And I'm not doing anything intensive (word/excel) and in the cool NY weather of 15 deg celcius and the laptop is on a flat surface. I did have energy management software and today morning after logged in and then powered off and then booting up the PC it displayed standard message about battery not being genuine/un-authorized etc and it will not charge. This is strange as I haven't changed any batteries or given it to anybody for servicing. Infact how can an end user even change battery in Yoga 13 considering it is all boxed up? Did Lenovo just copy/paste the standard genuine battery messages from other laptop models where it was actually removable. I tried uninstalling energy management and restarted PC but the issue remains as is. I searched online and see messages ... The other day I had it unplugged and moved around the house in various places with me, this used maybe half its battery life.Since then I noticed that it wouldn't charge above 52%, that's odd I thought.  Just now I went to unplug it for some reason and it just completely powered off. I figured out that my laptop, when being charged or using the Power Outlet, runs at 100% CPU at times, and slows me down when running and working on some open applications. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? This is for 2 issues, which may be connected. I have an Alienware 15. Noticed recently that my system slows down noticeably when plugged in. When gaming, the game is really choppy when plugged in. When unplugged, game runs smoothly. I didn't buy an Alienware to have this problem. Also noticed that computer doesn't always charge when plugged in. I have to pull the cord to one side for it to charge. Not sure what that's all about, but it's annoying. Had the problem with computer not charging about a year ago and fixed it by buying a new AC adapter. Now having the same problem. AC adapters should last longer than 1 year and shouldn't break for no reason. I didn't buy an Alienware to have this problem.

Answer:Laptop slows down when plugged in and AC adapter (not charging)

Replace the DC jack inside the system - that will likely solve the problem.

Answer:Latitude laptop not recognizing AC adapter, not charging

This is not a firmware problem.  A BIOS update won't fix it.
If you've already tried a new OEM Dell (not a third party) adapter to no effect, the next part to replace is the DC jack in the system:

If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.

Hi Jadebasilijoseph,

As you have mentioned that no display issue, connect an external monitor and check for the issue, does the system powering on? Can you see any LED light when you press the power button?

As you have mentioned that battery not charging connect different adapter and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists.

how old is the laptop sounds like your ac in port has de-soldered from the psu part of the motherboard. its the most common thing to break on laptops since they get a lot of stress from the cables pulling on them or they are built cheap either way. is is it still in warranty?

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Answer:AC Adapter makes sound when charging laptop on sleep mode Y510P

Sounds like it could be a leaky capacitor, or something like that. Call support/repair to get it replaced. You can buy a generic Lenovo charger on ebay  for cheap, so you can continue to use your laptop, while you wait for your new power adapter..

Windows 8 caused my Y500 to be unreliable, with WIN7 Pro it no longer requires monthly restorations. It's not the Y500 it's the WIN8, or the bloatware...

Hello, I have a ProBook 640 G1 that will not power on. After pressing the power button, with a battery installed and the AC adapter attached, the Charging LED blinks white 9 times . Unplugging the AC adapter results in 9 amber blinks. The light on the AC Adapter itself remains solid green. With the battery removed, and attached to the AC Adapter, three lights blink continously : The light on the power button (white), the Charging LED (AMBER), and the Power LED (White). The light on the AC Adapter itself remain solid green. In both cases pressing or pressing and holding the power button has no effect. There is no indication that power is actually making in to the MB; no BIOS , nothing at all. I do not have access to another unit with the same battery or AC adapter in order to try swapping those out. Thanks,Shane

Hi everyone. Was hoping you could help me tackle this problem.

I have a Sony VAIO VPCEB32FM that has stopped charging. I've replaced the charger with a new OEM charger from Sony and also installed a new DC power jack but it's still not working.

At first, after installing the new DC jack, it was charging fine but when I turned it on I got as far as the log on screen before it turned off again.
I've tried taking the battery out and just running off the adapter but it doesn't turn on. I've ran it without the battery prior so I know this model does work without one in.
I also took a multimeter to test the voltage on the old DC power jack and new charger to make sure everything was fine, it was. All voltages are within the boundaries of what they should be.

I plugged in the charger to the old DC jack and checked the voltage on each of the hot wires that plug into the mobo and they're all receiving proper power.

I'm not sure what it could be at this point. Does anyone have any ideas of what else could be causing this?

Thanks!

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5504 and it's about 3 months old. Last night I noticed the laptop said it was charging but the battery percentage kept on dropping. I tried a few things before the battery its self actually died. A few forums told me to uninstall a few ACPI options under batteries in device manager and another device under system devices. So I did and none of those helped what so ever. So eventually the laptop got to 0% and died lol. Im not sure if its a problem with the actual battery its self or the charger or something is wrong internally with the hardware. Because when even when I remove the battery and have the charger plugged in it still will not turn on. But when i use the same charger on a different Toshiba laptop and take the battery out the computer still turns on. Does any one have any suggestions on what this could possibly be. I have a warranty on it and everything and ill just end up getting a new one. I just want to know if anyone has any ideas on what went wrong within a friggen 3 month time span.

Have you reinstalled those devices in device manager? Not all laptops will work without a battery in,some are just fussy.

Off the top of my head I'm wondering if you've got your chargers mixed up and they have slightly different specs so double check? I've just tried to work through the possible scenarios and solutions and have come to the conclusion that, the bat... Read more

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

RFrom yesterday my laptop stop charging when laptop is power on..... Though It charges when Power is off. I checked the Bios AC adapter type is None. I removed the battery and try to start the laptop only with AC adapter connected but it is not starting ..... What might be the problem. Charger or motherboard or any thing else...... Please help me

Answer:Dell Inspiron 14R SE charging only when laptop power is off

In descending order of probability:
Replace the AC adapter first.  Use a Dell OEM AC adapter ONLY - - NOT a third party adapter.
If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC power jack in the system:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.
If the AC adapter is unknown, the battery will not charge.

Hi, My HP 15-AC035TX (warranty was over by Oct 2016), when plugged in - till 30 - 40% it's getting charged without any issues. Then it's charging & not charging intermittently. It's getting charged for 1 min then not getting charged for few seconds.  If i run the laptop without batterires, no issues. Laptop is running smoothly without any disconnection.  I tried with one of my friends charger and the same thing happens. So i guess the problem is not with the charger.  I've tried everything mentioned in this two threads. I am trying to fix a Lenova Y550P that has a problem charging. The lady said she dropped the laptop. It is working on battery, but is not working on A/C power. When I remove the battery the laptop is not powering on and when I run it with the battery in and A/C power connected it is not re-charging. There is no light where the power chord goes into the laptop, but unsure if there was prior to the problem starting. What steps can I take to fix this problem. Thanks

Answer:Solved: Lenova Laptop A/C Power not charging the battery

I figured out that the voltage was set to 15V and that it should have been set to 19V. All fixed.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 running Win XP SP3. It has stopped charging its battery when plugged into my Kensington Universal 120W power adaptor (it runs off power, it simply does not charge). When plugged into the OEM 90W adaptor, it charges fine.I also receive an error message telling me that "The system will run slower and the battery will not charge. Please use a Dell 65W power supply for better operation." (Note that Dell supplied me with a 90W!).This is true wherever it's plugged in; it's not local to an office, hotel, home, etc. Here's what's strange:This first began this Tuesday evening. It has operated correctly from the time I started using the Kensington (December 2007) until then. The first time I noticed this, I rebooted the computer, and all was well again. The following day, the problem recurred, and has been continuously the case since.I have tried System Restore, different batteries, updating the BIOS, but all seem to have no effect.Today I tried the Kensington charger in a Dell Inspiron 6000 running XP SP2; it gave me the same error. I don't travel with the Inspiron, so I don't know if I've ever actually had it plugged into the Kensington before.I have been told that Dell programs its motherboard to reject third party power supplies; that does not explain why it began this week and not before. I don't have enough data to narrow it down to something that might have changed around my Dell, or around my power adap... Read more

Answer:Third Party Power Adaptor Stopped Charging Laptop

120watt adapter used on a 90watt laptop is not good.... the adapters all are rated for the load that they will be given. So a 90Watt 12 volt DC adapter for example would be fine for a laptop requiring 90watts, but a 120watt adapter rated at 12 volts DC will likely feed closer to 13 or 14 volts DC into the laptop if the Voltage Regulator in the adapter does not restrict the power output due to less of a load on the power divided from your wall outlet. You could smoke your laptops charging unit due to the 30 watt difference which could over voltage the laptops charging unit. But given the fact that your laptop is fine on the original 90watt adapter, but not well on the 120watt, it is possible that the 120watt adapter lost the battle by being incorrectly loaded ( in which your lucky ). If you were talking about a 100watt in place of a 90watt 10 watts wouldnt be as bad as a 30watt output difference.Laptop power supplies ( ac adapters ) are different then internal PC power supplies in which you can have a 500watt supply for a system only requiring 350 watts. Far different architecture between a Switching Power Supply in a desktop computer and a laptops Drop Down AC/DC Transformer.I'd buy a new adapter and get some closer to 90 watts, and no more than 100 watts to limit the over voltage potential due to insufficient draw.

Hello,

I have one of the newer model Dell Inspirion laptops. How do I turn off the light that accompanies the power button and the charge light on the front. I'm able to turn off my backlit keyboard, but these two other lights are quite bright and annoying when I'm trying to play movies in a dark room.

Answer:Laptop lights (power/charging) - Dell Inspiron

Hi DELLUSER16486,
What is the exact system model?
The power led and the leds on front are also used as diagnostic indicators. If there is any hardware issue on the machine, these leds help isolate the source of the issue. Hence, there is no way to disable the leds from turning on, as they would be connected to a cable soldered to the motherboard.
Download the service manual / specifications for a better understanding of the machine - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download it from the Manual section.
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Hello Guys,I have HP dv6 pavilion series with Windows 10 (64 bit) for 4 years now. I dont have the Battery so I usually work with directly connecting the Power cable. It worked fine till now. Today it abruptly Shut down and since then its not booting. The Charging light keeps on Blinking.I have tried the 40/30 sec trick (holding thepower on button for 30-40 secs for the capacitors to discharge) twice, but in vain. I also cleaned up my cooling fan and checked for all the wiring, its all intact. After re-essembling the laptop, the same problem persists. And about the Bios update, I do think I have the latest bios updated, as my laptop is connected with internet, and I usually keep it all Updated. And if someone recommends me to Update the BIOS, well I cannot power on my laptop, so is there any alternative for updating the BIOS? Earlier it did Abruptly Shutdown twice or thrice over last few days, but used to Power up again. But today it wont work. Please Help Me guys. Thanks

Hello,

This problem is from a friend of mine but he doesn't has a computer now. Yesterday he was charging his powerbank through his Laptop (Asus bought 3 months ago) USB port. After a while the computer was shutdown and won't turn on, even when it's plugged through its power adapter.

Is there any solution to this?
Thanks!

Answer:Laptop wont turn on after charging power bank

Hi and welcome to TSG.

As annoying as it can be to have to do it, your best option if it appears totally dead is to RMA the laptop if it is only 3 months old. Fiddling about with it too much trying to diagnose the problem could end up invalidating any warranty your friend has.

The only simple checks I would do are to try and power it up with and without the power cord connected.
Then remove the battery (assuming it is a removable one) and try it again with the power adapter attached.

It could be a problem with the laptop or that the power brick has just failed, it happens occasionally.

My laptop has been distrubing since yesterday. Whenever I put in the power chord, the power light and battery light starts flashing together and the laptop does not charge. When I remove the chord, the flashing disapperas. Occassionally, it charges a little before going out again.  I tried using the laptop without the battery. It sometimes does not start and other times, it goes into the first few seconds of booting (the BIOS page) before going out again.  Do you guys know what this code indicates? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My laptop is ThinkPad X1. Same situation. Originally was at 97% charge, once go to battery mode (AC unplug) battery immediately goes to 5% and then hibernate. Replaced 3 batteries from service center but problem still persist. Support Center keep insisting is battery problem despite 3 replacement batteries from service center! Lenovo is providing faulty batteries to customer for consecutively 3 times!? Issue has dragged for over 1 year and now Support Center says battery warranty is over and request to purchase new battery. If purchasing new battery can solve the issue, why did I need to replace the battery 3 times!? All batteries cycle counts range between 30 to 40 only. (Mostly on AC and recharge threshold is set to recharge at 33%). Lenovo batteries can only last for 3-6 months!? Despite case being escalated to "TOP MANAGEMENT", no response from Lenovo at all for over 1 week! Is this even escalating? Is this so-called "Customer Satisfaction" when satisfaction level is NEGATIVE ONE HUNDRED?

So lately I've been having an issue with my laptop.  The charger is plugged in but the computer doesn't seem to recognize it unless I shift the laptop to a certain position.  This seems to have little to do with the position of the AC plug in the DC port at all as it's not the same positions that will actually get the computer to recognize the charger is plugged in. I don't think this has anything to do with the battery itself as removing the battery does not make the connection more consistent.  The computer will still not recognize the AC adapter is plugged in.  I had the same problem with my old laptop, a V570. It will also briefly lose connection and restore it before my display can process it.  I know this by the CPU throttle in the BIOS (which I can't access to turn off because of the version of BIOS used) will randomly slow my computer down and won't restore to full speed when the charger is making connection again. What just happened lately which is making me wonder about this more is that my laptop stopped recognizing the charger as being plugged in in the tray icon but the charger light on my laptop started flashing orange.  The blue power light was also flashing. Sometimes when I restart my computer to reset the CPU throttle, I will get a pop-up message from the Battery Management Software stating, "Adapter has limited support: performance will be affected ..." Full specs available on the purchase page here. &n... I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

I have a G560 , when battery is depleted and needs a charge . If I plug my AC adapter in my battery icon shows I have the AC power but the icon shows that it is charging for 17 seconds and then quits showing that it is charging. If I unplug the power supply and then plug it in again. The same 20 seconds thing. I can get the battery to completely recharge all the way up if I plug and unplug. I am wondering if it is a defective voltage regulator problem? I do not want to replace the battery if the battery is not bad. It is just out of warranty by 3 monthes. This just started happening . Thanks and God Bless : )

Hi, I upgraded my Sony Vaio to Windows 10. Since the upgrade, battery icon showing "Plugged in, Charging" but not actually charging. Always it is in 3% and when unplug the power, system shutdowns.

Answer:Sony Vaio - shows charging, but not charging the battery?

From: Recovery and Troubleshooting Guide
Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
When you intend to run your VAIO computer on battery power, the battery pack may have run out of power. Connect the computer to a power outlet. For details, refer to Connect to a Power Outlet in the Startup Guide.
If you did not previously follow the standard procedure to turn off your VAIO computer, the power controller may be suspended due to a program error.
Do as follow:
- On the models with a built-in battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, push and hold the battery off button for at least three seconds with a thin, straight object (such as a paper clip), and leave the computer for at least
five minutes. Then, plug the AC adapter and turn on the computer once again. For the location of the battery off button, refer to Locating Parts and Controls in the Startup Guide.
- On the models with a removable battery pack, unplug all cables and peripheral devices, including the AC adapter and USB devices, from the computer, remove the battery pack, and leave the computer for at least five minutes. Then, reinstall the battery pack and turn on the computer once again.
? If the charge indictor is blinking or the ? power button does not work, a battery error may have occurred or the battery pack may not be detected.

I recently had my Qosmio F55-Q502 repaired by Toshiba.
Two issues were addressed and one is fixed.

However, the second was attempted to be resolved unsuccessfully.

When I attempt to play multi-media games such as Call of Duty IV, even if the system is fully charged, within minutes the system will start to blink the "backlights" and then when I see the charging icon, it says "Plugged in, Not Charging."

This really concerns me as I have read online many similar issues, but none of the solutions seems to work.
To have to restart the machine everytime this happens and your in the middle of a game, really stinks!
I even had it happening with SimCity4 which is an ancient game.

Any good suggestions on this?
They did replace the battery when it was sent in which seems to be what most people say needs to be done.

Answer:Qosmio F55-Q502 - charging icon says: Plugged in, Not Charging

Hello

If your Qosmio notebook was in repair I think you should not discuss about any issue on forums but make a pressure on service and clarify every single problem with your notebook.
Please do this because the warranty is still valid and now is the time to clarify everything.

I am not hardware specialist but it sound to me as some power supply electronic issue but I cannot say for sure. Talk with service. Try to clarify this with them. Be nice, be cool and everything will be ok.

Hi, My husband purchased an Ideapad Yoga 11S last year. Last month, the power cord stopped charging. I took the system into a repair shop, and they told me that the charger wasn't registering any power activity, and that I'd need to buy a new one. I ordered a new one... one month later, it too has stopped charging the computer! I have NO IDEA why? My son uses this for school, and he can't access any of his work, nor can he participate in classwork that requires the computer. I researched solutions, and found that I should unplug the unit and take out the battery --- YEAH RIGHT... a special screw driver is needed to do that, so we can't get the screws out without stripping them. I am VERY frustrated because the computer is no longer covered under warranty... is the new charger that I purchased covered? Is there something else that I can do? Any help in this matter is extremely appreciated. S_Reynolds

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Thank you

Hi there, new on the forums. I've just bought my first ThinkPad and can't tell if the charging is complete while the laptop is off. I charge the laptop mostly when it's off but the only chargin indication I can see is a constant green LED near the charging port. I would have expected it to be red during charge and turn green when charging reaches 100%. Are all E320s like this? A very annoying problem

Answer:Thinkpad Edge E320 Charging LED; how can you tell if its charging complete?

It seems that Lenovo engineers decided that Edge users don't need as many indicator lights as other models have.  In my E420 there are only 2: AC power adapter connected (green light next to power connector) and On/Off/Sleep status (red light dot in ThinkPad logo). That's it!  If you want to know the battery status you have to open Windows.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Thank you

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

My Dell Latitude D620's adapter cord is not charging my battery/laptop even though I bought a new one thinking the cord was faulty. Could the Laptop be the issue? If so, what can be done?
Thanks

Answer:Adapter Cord/Charging

The battery can be at fault or the MB of the D620 could be at fault. You didn't get the extended 3 year warranty? The D620's should still be under warranty.

Really the only thing you can do is change out parts until you find the right culprit. I don't suppose you happen to have another battery to swap out to see if its the MB?

Just thinking of something you did try taking out the battery and reseating it as well as looking at the dell power indicaters to make sure it sees the battery as being installed and charging?

So I've had an x100e (and its original AC adapter) since 2010 and all of a sudden the battery stopped charging and slowly drained, so its obviously not a problem with the battery. The ac adapter used to cause a few sparks  at the metal parts of the plug when plugging it in, but not anymore. Silence. Do I need a new adapter?Where can I get one?

Answer:x100e - Not Charging (Do I need new AC adapter?)

1. Test the inside and outside barrel with a voltmeter to see if the voltage measures around 20 V. 2. Gumtree has some of these power adapters, which are usually used and genuine, or you can go to ebay. If you want to be absolutely sure, get it from Lenovo.com.au.

I have a lenovo z570 about a year and half old. I am having problems with the charging adapter .Model- PA-1900-56LCThe indicator on the charger is working. But the battery is not charging nor does the laptop work when the battery is removed and the charger plugged in

Answer:Charging Adapter problem

Hi vik111,

Sad to see your having problems with your adapter.   Since the indicator light on the charger is working, this would mean that the adapter is getting power from the outlet.  Now what we need to find out for sure is if the adapter is able to supply current and voltage at the output end.

The fact that the laptop does not work when the battery is removed and the charger is plugged in could mean 2 possible problems.  It could either be a problem on the adapter from the brick to the output plug that goes to the laptop, the ac adapter port, or something internal to the laptop.

Check the cord from the ac adapter brick to the output plug (dc output plug)  that goes to the laptop if there are any exposed wiring. You can also plug the ac adapter to the laptop and wiggle the cord from the brick end moving to the output plug and see if any of the laptop lights come on when doing so.  If you have a Digital Multimeter, you can test the output plug for voltage output if there are any.  If you get voltage output then we can narrow down the problem as being internal to the laptop.  If there is none there probably is a breakage on the cord from the brick to the output plug.

Hopefully, its just the adapter cord, as the ac adapter would be easier to replace.

Hoping this was some help.
Don

Ugh!  After all we've been through with Lenovo, the charging brick on our  6m old Y3P packed it in today.  Sometime overnight charging ceased.  When I checked the adapter I could hear it arcing and see sparks.  It will still charge if I press it firmly into the socket, but will stop a second or two after I release pressure.  Obviously, the arcing means it's not to be used again.  Called support because I was unable to use callback, lacking a valid sales number (this was a replacement of a 3 14 that was a replacement of a U530 that was a replacement of a Y410 that replaced a Y400.  Over two-hour hold+ 53 min call.  The very nice (Indian, Malaysian, whatever) rep wanted to have the safety dept call me in a few days.  I essentially had to browbeat her to get her to simply send a replacement brick......then I get the email that it's on backorder.   THUD!  I don' even use the thing anymore, it's my wife's now and though it's so thin and light?  With the watchband hinge end caps falling off and considering our previous Lenovo experience?  We deem it too fragile to travel, so it usually sits on the dining room table charging  on battery saver mode.  So sad!  I did just waste $30 ordering a knock off charger from Amazon so we >may< get the thing back up sooner.  Till then?  She can use the 6yr old bottom of the line HP that has never given a lick of trouble... Answer:Y3P charging adapter fail

Yay! The Motong adapter arrived and the Y3P is back charging after 4 days. So far, no additional hinge caps have become loose either. No shipping confirmation from Lenovo on the OEM charger, so it's looking like the back order estimate might hold true and make my Amazon Prime purchase a good decisionFor anyone interested the Motong?http://www.amazon.com/MOTONG-Adapter-Charger-Lenovo-Battery/dp/B0125QHIUGSeems well made but the cable is hard wired so no using it as a USB cable in a pinch (never did that). The "pins" don't fold in like the OEM, they slide on like a travel charger. The good part is that it's ~ 1/2 the price of OEM (even cheaper via eBay if you don't mind waiting) and it would appear to me that the OEM folding pin design might be the cause of the failure I encountered. It has the same relatively short 6' cable as the OEM. I can't give it a glowing recommendation after just 30 min of use, but the Y3P has gained ~20% charge while I type this. I have read more than a few posts about Yoga OEM adapters failing and there is the back order issue, this might be a common design flaw (like the U5xx hinge attachment that was never addressed over 3 years of production) Also fortunate that the power adapters on every device I currently own have never failed.

For some reason my laptop once stopped charging, I tried a few different outlets at a library and non of them made the laptop start charging again (charging = organge light glowing). I got home, and my outlets there didn't work either. THen after a while I tried an outlet again, and it worked. Then this problem occured one more time (then I fixed it somehow). And the last time it occured  I haven't been able to fix it. Trust me I've tried almost everything, I tried turnign it off taking the battery out and holding the powere button then trying to charge it, I tried waiting for hours, but  have not tried a new charger.  So here is the problem I see: I plug in the charger, and the charging LED does not glow, instead it randomly (it seems random) blinks.  I once left my laptop to do that for hours, and it still didn't even charge. Also I can't turn on my laptop without the battery (not sure if thats even possible, as I have not heard it is possible).  I'm going to send it back to Costco soon, but before I do, please help me figure out how to fix it, thanks

Hi, I have an X220 Tablet that's about 3 and a half years old -- so unfortunately just out of warranty -- and I'm having battery/charging problems. A few months ago the original 6-cell battery that came with the laptop died: Power Manager reported it as dead and needing replacing. It had had 500-something cycles, so it seemed reasonable. I went ahead and bought a new 6-cell battery from Lenovo, the 67+, and then my system was fine again. But one day a few weeks ago this battery suddenly stopped charging. Power Manager reported that "The battery is in good condition", and it was reported as "Status: Charging", but it was not actually charging and was instead very slowly discharging its way to 0%. Something suspicious is perhaps that PM reported "Current: 0.00 A". I thought it might be the battery, so I got another one, but that has exactly the same issue -- now I have two batteries, each discharged completely and with no way to charge them. Charging doesn't happen regardless of whether the computer is on or off, or whether I'm in Windows (7) or Linux. I checked the AC adapter/charger with a multimeter and it is reporting 20V as it's supposed to, so I guess that's okay. Plus, the laptop runs fine on just the AC adapter, even if it's a little bit slower (which I gather is due to it being 65W rather than 90W). The only slightly unusual thing I can remember from the day charging stopped functioning is that I was using the 'always on' USB port to charge my ... Answer:Battery not charging despite being reported as good and as charging

It is hard for me to be certain without seeing it, and Sweden is a long way from San Francisco. The symptom point to a blown fuse or power transistor (mosfet). Either can cause your problem, and usually require motherboard replacement. If nothing was going on when the problem started, (no power failure, lightning storm, failure of power adapter, tripping over the cord) I would guess mosfet. Some shops can repair fuses, but they require fairly good soldering equipment. I have had much poorer luck fixing mosfets, because usually, more than one chip is bad. You might be able to find a motherboard for a reasonable price. I have one for sale on eBay for under $100, but international shipping is expensive and you might do better locally. Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

I'm coming through with this issue because I saw so many people (including dell tech support) struggling with this issue before.
The issue is as follows: you connect your laptop to the charger, the charging light goes on, windows says "charging", even the BIOS says charging, and yet, the battery's voltage just keeps going down no matter what you do about it..
Dell tech support usually try to guide you to reset the BIOS battery by removing the main battery and press the power button. but it's not the case here.
The solution I found was a very strange one, changing the RAM slot seemed to solve the issue completely.
Just taking the RAM card from one slot to the other. on one slot it's stopping your laptop from charging, on the other everything is good.
I honestly don't know why that is (and I'm a PC technician myself),  considering the laptop ships with two perfectly good RAM slots, but I thought the solution needs to be out there.
I'm hoping I managed to help some of you, (Even with my less then perfect English) Sapir.

I've had my HP Envy laptop for about 3 months, and yesterday I noticed that when it was plugged in it wasn't charging (the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging"). I turned it off overnight, plugged in, and this morning the battery was fully charged. It only seems to not charge when it is turned on. I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. Any ideas please, I've run out of google search ideas!!

Hey,

I just got my computer back from having the motherboard switched out because of another problem, but now my battery will not charge. The light is on and it says it is charging, but it isn't. Should I attempt a gauge reset or something else?

It is a Lenovo y50, which I have had for 3 months. The battery needs to be unscrewed from the back.

Answer:Says plugged in and charging, but is not charging. Just got motherboard fixed.

If it is not charging maybe the battery is defective.
Did they gave you back the original charger?
Did they install another different motherboard which might use a different charger?
You may need to contact the person who repaired it to find out.

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).

2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Answer:T410 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hi Hang,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

I hope the above information helps.
