Ideapad Y50 Speakers stop working, subwoofer continues working

Question: Ideapad Y50 Speakers stop working, subwoofer continues working

So I just got my y50-70 a week ago. Every once in a while the speakers stop working, but the subwoofer still works. It goes away when I put the machine to sleep. Additionally, sometimes when I plug in headphones no sound comes out, this also goes away when I close and open the laptop.

Preferred Solution: Ideapad Y50 Speakers stop working, subwoofer continues working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Ideapad Y50 Speakers stop working, subwoofer continues working

Hi Simonxliu,

Welcome to Lenovo forums

As I understood that you are facing the issue with the speakers.

As you have mentioned the sub-woofer is working I would suggest you update the chipset driver and also the audio driver this might resolve the issue.

Hope this helps! Do post us back for further queries.

Best regards,

Ashwin.S

I'm using an Ideapad Z560 with Windows 7 and whatever sound device it came with. The headphones work fine, but the laptop's speakers don't work unless I put the computer to sleep and turn it on again. And even then, they only work for about two minutes before they shut off again. I checked the Volume Mixer and the speakers are on and apparently playing sound, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Plugging and unplugging the headphones doesn't work; it seems that the computer is able to register when the headphones are plugged in, so that's not it.

Answer:Ideapad Z560 speakers stop working after a couple of minutes but the headphones are fine

hi arcic,

 Welcome to Lenovo Community!!

Can we try to uninstall and reinstall the Sound driver
You have to go to Device manager
Press Windows button together with R
You will have a runbox and type there devmgmt.msc hit Enter

Look under Sound, video and game controllers
look for anything like Conexant High Definition Audio
right click on it then uninstall

Now download the driver here
Conexant Audio Driver      IN2AUD34WW5.exe     151 MB
And install that.

-See if that works

Hope this helps

Hey all,

I'm in need of help here with my 5.1 speakers. I just recently changed to a 5.1 Sonic Gear 4000 set of speakers and I believe i have plug in the jacks correctly - based on and online guide, using the Line in, Line Out and Microphone slots.

However, the issue is now there is no bass and the subwoofer is not working. Whenever i do a test of the sounds, the front, rear and center speakers work but there's no any reaction/sound from the subwoofer. Tried using I Tunes, VLC and even videos from youtube. The speakers all work except for theres no bass.

I hope someone can help me here and sort this problem.

I have read up a number of post in this forum to see if there's any related issues but cant really find the appropriate one.

The motherboard that i'm using is Asus P8B75-M LX PLUS.
And here are the rest of images on details of my pc--

Appreciate the help. Thank you.

I have an Altec-Lansing speakers ACS40 and subwoofer ACS250 system that came with a Gateway 2000 PC that I purchased in 1995. And has worked with every computer I'ved used since, the last having XP Home Edition.
However they do not seem to work with my new Dell with WIN7. Any advice?

Answer:Altec-Lansing Speakers and Subwoofer not working on new Dell with WIN7

Exactly is the 20 year old Altec Lansing speaker system? Back then many PC sound systems were different.

Are these speakers analog with built in power amplifier? (needed for current PC speaker systems). Or are they non powered as many older sound cards had power amplification on the sound card. And then there were the Gateway PC's that used digital speaker systems (and that digital type is not compatible with current PC digital connections).

What is the Dell PC Model number (such as Inspiron 310, etc). One with a 32 bit OS would suggest an older Dell as most (all that I've seen) new PC's come with 64 bit OS.

I have leftover subwoofer from an older 5.1 setup that I've been using.
The subwoofer works well, the speakers of said setup not so I've got a seperate stereo speakers.
Both are plugged in via 3.5mm plugs: Stereo speakers in the green plug, Subwoofer in the orange.
It works. And no.. My sound device configuration is setup as 5.1 system with the rear and center speakers disabled. If I test the speakers by clicking on the speaker icons, they do work!
However:
If I play sound it doesn't seem to use the subwoofer..
I'm not an amateur but im quite clueless as of the current problem. I'll restart the PC now but I doubt that will help.
Thanks for your time!

I have the Lenovo Ideapad 310 with Windows 10 and AMD A12 chip. The speakers do not work and I'm not sure they've ever worked (I just recently bought the laptop new). I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, re-booted several times. When I hover on the speaker icon on the lower right it says "No speakers or headphones are plugged in". When I click on the Dolby Audio Icon it says " Your installation is missing components..." When I go to device manager there is the yellow triangle warning sign on the Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus. When I click on that it shows the manufacturer as Conexant. The Device Status box says "Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)." I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I also get a notification that frequently pops up saying "Conexant UIU service in startup." When I try to reinstall the drivers I often get "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device" and then it gives me the Error Code 18. What's going on?

I recently bought a s video cable to connect my laptop to my tv and before, and during the first time I connected them, the speakers worked fine. Shortly after I unplugged them, I noticed the speakers were not working. I plugged in headphones and they had full sound but when I took them out, the speakers still refused to play. I checked the sound setup to make sure it was still set to the proper output and everything should be working but isnt. The cable doesnt deal with sound so Im not sure if it could even be the problem, but they were working fine until it was used. Any ideas? I have a hp dv2600 special edition notebook

I turned on my laptop today and noticed that there is no sound. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen the speaker icon now has a red X on it. When i hover over it with the mouse it says, No Audio Output Device Installed. But it was working perfectly fine yesterday. How do i resolve this? Thanks.

Hello,
I have a very irritating problem with my computer speakers.
I will explain what happens;
I come home from work, and they will not be working! I switch the dial on, the light glows green and I can hear the speakers are all connected and working fine if i turn the volume up high (can hear slight static).
Then all of a sudden, when using my headphones instead (speakers still powered on) they pop around 5-6 times (probably the number of speakers there are) then they work again.
They do this randomly as I haven't been doing anything significant over the times it has happened.
I have checked all connections, on the sub box, and in the back of my pc. All is well there.
My setup is;
Creative 5.1 surround sound system
asus motherboard
amd cpu
I hope someone can help!
Thanks very much in advance!

Answer:Speakers stop working (randomly) Then they pop...

Maybe try connecting each individual speaker, one at a time, to an external music output, and have a good listen to each one. This will tell you if the speakers ar ok.If you hear any distortion or no sound at all, then, that speaker must be faulty. That's what I would do for starters.

im using a lenovo b570 laptop running windows 7

the issue i am having is that my speakers stop working within 5 minutes of booting up my computer. the audio itself works fine because i can use headphones or external speakers. i would prefer if my laptop just worked properly thought i believe we can all agree with that feeling. any suggestions for what i need to do? i know this is an easy fix because i fixed it on my desktop many years ago. of course i was just tinkering with whatever i could think of and i have no memory of what the issue was.

on an unrelated issue if anyone might know a fix would be appreciated as ive browsed the net and found nothing. my google chrome likes to refresh itself frequently this is annoying if not anything else. even as i was typing this message the first time it refreshed and i had to start over. clearly having just wasted my time it lead me to use less detail. already reinstalled google chrome and i checked my extension i didnt see anything that appeared to be an auto refresh app,.. suggestions? ( i know this isnt the place but figured id try while i was here for the other issue, since i cant find help anywhere else)

So my laptop speakers no longer work. I know its not muted or anything and headphones till work fine. My hunch is that I accidentally had my computer not turn them on or something because I had been starting up slowly so I messed around in msconfig and ended a lot of processes. Other than the speakers my computer has been running much better since i ended to processes at start-up. The problem is that I don't which process the speakers might be associated with and I don't want to reenable them all or go through them by trail by error. However the msconfig stuff might not be the cause of the problem. I don't use the speakers on my laptop very much so I didn't discover the problem until a good bit after I did the msconfig. It just seems like the most likely suspect to me.

Before I start, I just want to say this is the worst experience that I have ever had with making a purchase. I first bought a G470 October 25th, received it rather quickly, however the webcam did not work due to a poor internal connection. Sent it back for an exchange. The exchange was EOL without any notification, therefore I had no laptop and no refund. I am a university student and need a computer for school, so I had to order another one asap and did so when as soon as my refund order was initiated. It took over two weeks to receive my refund and the new G470 is just as poorly built as the last one, with a loose battery. I have not had a pleasant experience with Lenovo and I have only dealt with them. Anyway, my issue with the second G470 is that the speakers cut out and stop working when I turn up the volume to max levels and will not work until I reset my computer. I am not sure if this is cause to return the laptop, as I can find no solutions on the matter. Also, my left speaker is significantly weaker then my right speaker, although that isn't as big of a concern. I would like to avoid going through the hassle of exchanging it again as I need a computer asap and the not a month from now. Thanks in advance.

I am having a problem with the internal speakers on the X201.  Basically, the speakers just stop working.  I could be in the middle of playing a song and the speakers pop and then go out.  I have to reboot the system for them to work again.  Headphones still work despite the fact they go out.   I am thinking this is a fault with the IO Assembly board, but am not sure..  I have reinstalled Win7 clean with updated drivers and still see the same problem. Another interesting thing is I keep getting the disconnect/connect sound ( like you are plugging in a usb device ) at random times.  That always seems to correlate to the windows AUDIODG process. Any ideas?

For someone reason every time i play diablo 2 multi-player closed bnet for 30mins+ it starts to get way laggy and my speakers start to give out a strange static sound. I check my task-manger for any .exe that might have popped up (suggesting spyware, etc.) but non have been found. I have found out that my cpu usage is 100 though. I log off of multiplayer and close it and when i try to play music after my speakers don't work nor does any sound come out from anything else (headphones, new speakers, etc...) this has happened to me more than once and i have asked blizzard for help (i have also checked the help section [or whatever you call that section]) but they give me dumb answers that wont really solve much. This might be a new problem, i dont know, but please any help would be greatly appericated thanks.

Answer:diablo 2 lagg and speakers stop working

You say after quiting D2 your CPU is still 100%. If you go to the Task Manager window (which is Ctrl+Alt+Del) click on Processes tab and click on CPU column twice to sort them highest to lowest. Look at the top processes. This will tell you which ones are using the CPU. Jot them down and go to http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/ and look it up to see what program it's related to. There are other processes web sites out there so just do a search for 'window processes'. Hope this help!!

Had same problems with Companion 5 as you have plus Pod had volume full on all the time. Even dragging a window to a new position would cause Bose to quit. Disconnected everthing except mouse and Bose from computer and still had problem. Changed out cables. Talked with Factory many times, they sent new Pod which fixed volume control. Installed new 5 port USB-PCI card with only Bose connected, still same problem. It would work majority of time if the only thing I had going was music. Opening up new applications or internet would cause it to crash. Could disconnect power to base box, wait 15 seconds, reattach power, then adjust Pod and would work until tried something else at same time. Also downloaded latest Vista service pak (update) that was supposed to help, it didn't. After about 6 calls with factory, have acquired RMA to send in for warranty repairs, will take 3 weeks. It worked great for the first nine months.

Answer:Satellite L650 - Speakers suddenly stop working

Hi buddy,

Can you notice the same behaviour if you connect external speakers or headphones? Maybe it?s just a wrong sound setting and with external devices you can test this.

Have also a look on Windows sound settings. You can change the balance between right and left speaker.

If it?s really a hardware malfunction you can contact an authorized service provider. The guys will repair your notebook under warranty (free).

Since a few weeks, the keys I and K sometimes randomly stop working. I first noticed it four weeks ago. At first I only had this problem when entering my password (I have Windows 8.1), I would try to enter my password and then notice that my "I" didn't want to work anymore. Pressing the button for a long time made it work again. When my laptop was fully booted I wouldn't notice any problem with the keys, not even a little. But slowly over time, there was no way I could make my I work when I was entering my password and then I also noticed my K didn't want to work either. It started happening randomly when I was on the internet or writing on Wordpad: my I and K would stop working. First after a bit of pressing on both keys at the same time it started working and so I ignored it, but now sometimes i'm waiting and pressing the buttons for ten minutes long before they work properly again. For 3 minutes they work, only to stop working right afterwards again. ^, *, -, and . stop working too, but those are only minor problems. I can work without punctuation, but I can't work without my K and I. I don't think there's a problem with the keys itself, I assume if it's something with the actual keyboard then my K and I would stop working seperately at different times, and not all together at the same time? They don't feel stiff either, and I also never eat at my laptop so it's definitely not bread crumbs or anything under them if there is. I  tried something that I re... Read more

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place.

I had a set of GE 2.1 speakers working well with my Sony Vaio for about a year. Recently the sound started to go in & out, I had to move the wire around a lot and tape it or hold it in a certain spot to get them to work. Then one day they stopped working altogether. Assuming it was the speakers, I went and bought a new set from Best Buy. Took them home, plugged them in... and nothing, nothing at all. So I tried the OLD speakers in another desktop computer, and they worked perfectly.

So I assumed my headphone jack was broken and was going to go about trying to get a new piece and solder it and all that, but then I'm sitting here and just realized my headphones work perfectly.

What's wrong? How come the headphones work, but 2 pairs of external speakers don't?

Thanks so much

Jillian

Hi i just got an Ideapad Flex 15 and my touchscreen stopped working after it goes to sleep mode or a restart, and start working again after 2-5 minutes.  I reset the computer to initialsettings and it worked like intended, but once i get into windows 8.1 and install a few programs it did it again This is what i had installed so far:AVG free AntivirusMic Office 365CcleanerMozilla Firefox Drivers say they are all up to date.   It have to be a software/driver issue as the touchscreen worked perfectly on windows 8.0  is kinda annoying and i dont expect this kind of issues with a new PC

I connected a Pioneer subwoofer to my XPS 8500. I selected the 5.1 Speaker configuration and when I do the "Auto Test" from the Dell Audio program, the subwoofer works. However, when I play any other type of audio, sound only comes out of my left and right speakers. Is there something else I need to configure? Thanks.

Answer:Subwoofer not working

Hi C-R,
Please make sure the speakers are set to the 5.1 Channel output. To check the settings please follow the steps below.

Click start
Click All Programs, click Dell Audio and then Dell Audio by Realtek to launch the utility.

Hello everyone,

So lately it seems that my Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 speaker system for the computer has been degrading. They are over 3 years old, so maybe they have just gave it all they got and need to be replaced, but I am hoping there is something I can do. First it was the audio control pod that starting degrading, I noticed that the volume was lower and times and less of the "boom" from the speakers, less umph if you will. So I played around with the dial, and found that pushing it down and taping it over with a piece of tape seemed to keep it at the right levels, some wires must have been loose inside of the thing, so I took it apart and tried to see if any wired were loose, everything seemed fine so I could live with just controlling the volume on the computer instead. Then I noticed that two of the rear speakers were not working, and I did a lot of fiddling with it, and realized that it was the connections on the subwoofer that were not working(Rear left, rear right, side left, side right, front left, front right, front center,) there are connections on the back of the subwoofer as such. So that was OK, it happened to be that I could still get 5.1 sound instead of 7.1 with some sound card limitations, but that was all good and well.

Now, only ONE speaker connection on the back of the sub is working, and that is the front left speaker. All the others have gone dead, I have tried plugging in other speakers and switching it around, but it appears that ... Read more

I just got this Y 50 yesterday and I was very disappointed that the front speakers of this VERY expensive laptop didn't work straight out of the box. Randomly, they started working again, but now the subwoofer isn't working. What can I do to fix this?

Answer:Y 50-70 Subwoofer not working.

hi brotatochip,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums

Can you consider the following:
1. Uninstall the Dolby and Realtek Audio Driver from the Control panel (icon views) > Programs and Features. then reboot the machine.

2. ReInstall the audio driver from the D:\Drivers\Audio folder or from the link below (this should install both the audio driver and Dolby)

Realtek Audio Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
v6.0.1.7195

When finished, try to play an audio and observe if both the speakers and subwoofer are working.

The power lead was moved whilst the machine was on causing several restarts and the sound disappeared. Everything had been working o.k. before, so I tried the same fix that worked the last time the subwoofer stopped working after installing windows 10. (sp59736.exe) I have managed to get the right and left speakers running again after deleting the driver in the device manager and scanning for hardware changes - which installed driver IDT  6.10.6429.0  12/10/2012  but now Beats Audio has disappeared and still no subwoofer sound in the windows configure sound box.  I downloaded and tried IDT High Definition Audio Driver version 6.10.6504.0  from Microsoft site - which worked once, but still without subwoofer, and then it would not work again when I tried something else and then came back to it. I have checked the subwoofer jack which buzzes as normal when plugged in  - it's working.  Appreciate any help.

I have owned my Lenovo Y50-70 sine Windows 10 initially came out and was rocking Win 8.1.The computer ran smoothly and sounded great. Around 1-2 mounts after release of Win 10 I upgraded it with good expectations. Almost everything was working but I noticed a lack in bass. Since i knew the pc had a internal subwoofer i tried as an easy fix at that time and changed the sound level for the main speakers on the laptop to favor the sub.Skip to current day and i have experienced a lot of issues with the sound lately. Under some troubleshooting, i discovered that the internal subwoofer didn't even do anything, for all these years... I have an external subwoofer connected through the 3.5 mm jack in the back of my computer.  After upgrading to Windows 10, it has stopped functioning with all playback (itunes, online videos, windows media).  It does, however, work when I test the speaker in the Beats interface.  The built-in front speakers still work perfectly. I have uninstalled the IDT driver and reinstalled it, still nothing.  All drivers seem to be up to date.  Any ideas?

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.
Please help me out.

Answer:My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.

Hello. The problem could be either in the hardware or the software, so you need to test each. Perform the tests below -- it doesn't matter which one you do first.

To test the speakers, perform the Quick Audio Check in the ePSA test. If the speakers fail the test then they have failed or become disconnected. (Click the link for instructions on how to run the test.)

To test the software, switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native driver. [This test assumes that your laptop has the Realtek audio driver. If you get to step 2 and do not see "Realtek High Definition Audio" then go to the Dell support page for your model and download the Realtek driver that Dell provides for the version of Windows that the laptop is running.]
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted,... Read more

im running an 8 month old toshiba with vista and realtek audio with updated drivers. surround sound speakers bought in iraq were used on audio output for about a week... then the speakers started acting funny, like with one speaker and one headphone working when headphones were plugged in. then the internal speakers squealed loudly whenever the computer was powered. had to take the speakers out just to get them to stop, and now audio output does not work at all. computer tests both devices as working properly, and drivers are updated.

New T530Speakers and Headphones were working fine. I have installed some codecs for VLC (don't think this would affect things) The speakers stopped working, but if you press your ear to the machine, you can hear some tiny clicks / pops when you try to play audio/video (itunes, VLC etc.) Checked Drivers, Sound Mixer, etc. All say the sound is on full.Volume Control Options show Speaker/HP 'realtek High Definition Audio' I tried updating the Sound Drivers. I rolled back the drivers, I unistalled the drivers.Downloaded the drivers from Lenovo, tried Microsoft. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Answer:T530 Speakers have stopped working, headphones still working, tiny small popping / clicking

Not really sure about this, but it sounds like the audio port's mechanical shunt is stuck or broken off.  That is an age old way of turning off speakers when a headphone or external speaker jack is inserted.  The jack pushes a small metal shunt over that opens the internal speakers' circuit.  When the jack is withdrawn, that small shunt is supposed to return to the original position that lets internal speakers function again. If that shunt is stuck or broken, the internal speakers could remain blocked after an external jack is removed. This is not a new problem, but it is not a common problem. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/No-sound-from-internal-speakers-only-from-h...

Hi,

I have a dual boot of Fedora and Windows, and when I boot into Fedora, my headphones work fine. When I boot into Windows 7 64bit, my headphones don't work. My laptop speakers work fine however, and I tried re-installing drivers. I made sure that my headphones are the default playback device, and I only have one headphone jack.

Other people who had this issue solved it by replacing their audio jack, but for me that is not a problem because the audio jack works fine when I boot into Fedora.

Please help!

Janac

Answer:Laptop speakers working, but headphone jack not working only on Window

Normally, the "Speakers" (PC sound) is set as the Default Playback device and not Headphones. In fact, newer RealTek sound systems do not even show the Headphones when plugged in.

Are you using the correct sound drivers? Not the generic Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec.

What all is listed in the Device Manager, Sound section?

Are you sure it's not working?   I thought the same when i bought mine new, but i was wrong.   It's only a 3watt sub so its barely noticable in my opinion. There is an area where you can control the volume level of the 2 speakers and the sub.  Make sure those are both up.  Speaker Properties-->Levels

I purchased a new Asus laptop a few weeks ago with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. The laptop has Conexant Cocoa II High Definition SmartAudio speakers. The problem I'm having is in regards to the sound I am getting from both my laptop speakers and my external speakers which plug into the headphone port not having any bass. When I have my external speakers plugged into my old laptop running Windows XP the sound is fine and all speakers and subwoofer work, so I know it is all wired properly. When I unplug from my old laptop and plug it into my new one with Windows 7, there is no bass being played. The subwoofer doesn't work and the bass that usually comes from the speakers is not present, and turning up the subwoofer doesn't do anything. I've tried to use the "Bass Management" enhancement feature in the speaker properties, but it has no effect. The only thing I've been able to find that will lead to the sound having bass, is when I enter the set-up for the "Room Correction" feature in the enhancement tab for the speaker properties. During the set-up, the sound has bass, but as soon as the set-up finishes the sound returns to having no bass. The odd part is when sound is playing out of just the laptop speakers, the "Room Correction" set-up menu causes bass to be played out of them too. So I know my laptop has the potential to play bass, it just seems like something is stopping it. I cannot find any equalizer feature. My laptop didn't have Realte... Read more

Ok I may seem repeating the thing posted before by some guys but it's a real trouble for me.My system's specs are as;
Dell N-5110 Core i7-2630QM 2.0GHz
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Service Pack 1
Ram 4 GB
When I plug in Creative SBS A320 Speaker System - 2.1 , I can hear sound but there is no bass at all with music playing.I tried many solutions/fixes but can't get rid of this annoying thing.I have installed Realtek High Definition Audio Driver and also have pre-installed Dell Audio by IDT.I checked the Bass Boost in Speakers=>Enhancements, Installed/Re-Installed drivers/ Checked pins.I really don't wanna mess up with my drivers again so decided to ask some reliable expert like you people.Speakers are perfect with other devices except for my Laptop.
Do I need any Audio Manager to install on my system? Can I solve my problem you know how empty it feels without Bass.
(By the way Like many others, My system speakers are also dead for no reason.Cant hear anything without external sound system/headphones)

Answer:Bass and subwoofer not working in Windows 7 64 bit

First, you must use the Dell supplied drivers. Non-Dell drivers in many cases will either not work or not work correctly.

Here is the correct Dell IDT driver for the N5110. Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

Install that and then see if it fixes it. As you have installed an incorrect driver, the RealTek, you may have to completely uninstall all sound drivers before installing the correct one.

-rear same reduction connected to RS-Out
-front same reduction connected to Line-Out

In realtek HD Audio Manager i choosed 5.1 , when i was connecting speakers i ticked what i am connecting ,but when i connected front into Line-Out it didnt pop-up any window to confirm that speakers (but they are playing) ..

Hi,
I have just brought a nice little set of pc desktop speakers by creative labs, with a left and right speaker plus a little subwoofer.
The sound is excellent except the right speaker is not working, now as you will know that is the one that the power runs through .
Now i wondered if the connection at the back of my pc was loose or dodgey so i had a little play. weird thing happened. if i pull the green connector about 1/4 the way out i lose the subwoofer but regain the right speaker..(so i know its working)
If i push it back in properly i lose the right but regain the subwoofer.
Now i brought new speakers because i thought we had blown the right speaker on the original one we had with the computer.
But it seems that there is some sort of setting? maybe... I have checked the usual ones in sound and audio and it all seems to be balanced correctly.

Can anyone suggest a way to get both speakers and woofer working.
(I also went in to advance settings and selected stereo desktop speakers...)
I did notice it had a tab for 5.1 but not 2.1 which these are would that make a difference)
Sorry to be dense...
but with the speakers seeming to be ok, and the pc seeming to be ok... i'm stumped...

My laptop's speakers aren't working at all, and when my headphones are plugged in only the right side works. The only way I can hear out of both sides of them is if I pull the jack halfway out, like you would with faulty headphones. But there's nothing wrong with the headphones and I've tried various different ones. The speakers themselves aren't working at all despite the settings telling me they are. And yes, I've tried turning it on and off and looking for updates but nothing seems to be working.

Hi. Today I just received the Genius SW-HF5.1 5050 V2 surround sound speakers. So apparently I got it all working perfectly fine. I tested with the Realtek HD Audio Manager which is my onboard card and every single one of them sounded fine. After that I tried to play some music but only the front satellites were working. Not front+subwoofer like you would see on a 2.1 system but just the front satellites. So after that I tried to play a movie and to my surprise while the movie was playing every single one of them worked perfectly fine. accurate with no weird background noises.

So apparently everything is fine except Sub,rear and center don't work while playing music. Haven't tried games yet tough. Also I tried on both Media player classic and windows media player + youtube and didn't work on any of them either.

Any suggestion regarding what could be causing this would be appreciated.

Ty for your time

Answer:Subwoofer,Rear and Center not fully working

Hi Backups.

I've found this - [Solved] Windows 7 Surround Sound Problem - windows-7, which is similar (symptom-wise).

It goes on to say that you'll need to configure your sound settings in Windows 7, as well as your device settings. It also states that stereo audio files will obviously only play on a L+R channel, but I would expect 2.1, as you've quite rightly pointed out.

Open up your Control Panel, head over to 'Hardware and Sound', then 'Sound', select your output and then click Configure/Properties. You can make the changes here.

Let us know how you get on.

Hello. I would really appreciate some help with getting my active sub-woofer to work with my krk's. I have this sound card and these ports:

ASUS PRIME Z270-A https://www.quietpc.com/images/produ...orts-large.jpg

I have connected everything right, and it works in linux straight out of the box. Both subwoofer and krk's.
Got my sub in the sub/c port and krk/speakers in the green one. Everything just works in linux.

But in windows i have these two options.
https://i.imgur.com/m2NOOVZ.jpg

The Digital output sometimes show the bars but no sound in the subwoofer. And i tried the realtek driver from their site and DTS audio followed, but it does not even recognize the orange/sub port and only the green one. Kinda annoying actually. (Windows do show that some port was plugged in, in a message, but nothing more.) I wish windows would just work...

If i check settings the digital output have the orange one, and the speakers also have the orange/sub one but also the green and some other one. 3 total.

Any idea how i get my subwoofer to work? Does win 10 even support 2.1 audio? Speakers and a subwoofer? Might need another driver, but i downloaded from the asus site drivers with my soundboard so that should work, and should not be the issue here...
Why is digital output even silent with the subwoofer, but shows bars moving in windows? As i wrote, linux works fine straight away. Thanks!

Answer:Please help me get my active subwoofer working in win10! Thanks ALLOT!

Hi temp0rary. Welcome to the TenForums @temp0rary

So I assume you still have the realtek driver and software install. In your systray, notification area do you have an icon for the realtek audio manager. If so, double click. Then check out the panels within.

Hello.

I just installed Win 7 and I have a 7.1 setup, but my subwoofer is not working. I'm pretty sure it's a driver/config issue, because all wiring is OK and it was working on XP some hours ago. I have an Audigy 2 ZS, but I also tried my onboard Realtek High Definition Audio, but the subwoofer does not work.

Anyone experiencing that / any tips for me ?

Thanks.

Edit:

So, anyone got the Audigy 2ZS to work yet? Please scroll down to see my message update below.

You need to install the correct driver for the audigy. you can get it here Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2/Audigy 2 ZS Driver (Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP) - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com its an XP driver and you might want to look for a newer one on creative

I run a 7.0 speaker system connected in multi-channel analogue mode to my Creative X-Fi Titanium.

I set my speaker settings on Windows 8.1 disabling the subwoofer and checking the full-range speakers checkbox to allow the low frequencies to be handled by my satellite speakers.

I've made no changes to the settings and yet I suddenly experienced a decrease in bass after a system restart.

When I checked the speaker settings I noticed that checking/unchecking the full-ranged speakers and subwoofer checkboxes no longer made any difference. i.e. the signal still gets passed to the centre/subwoofer port on the soundcard.

Clicking on the subwoofer on the window, I can only hear sounds from my front left/right speakers. Previously, unchecking the subwoofer checkbox sends the low frequencies to the available full-range speakers.

I have tried using an optical connection on Dolby Digital and it gives the same problem.

I am running the latest driver version available.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Speaker Settings Subwoofer Crossover Not Working

That is not normally how a 7.1 system is connected/setup up. But if it works (worked) for you then I can't argue. However, what bass you are getting is controlled by the amplifier in the speaker system. If there were a change, something in the speaker system is the problem and probably not the PC.

I installed windows 10 on my Dell Inspiron 17r SE 7720, but now the sound is very flat, the volume is soft and the subwoofer doesn't work anymore. I've looked on the Dell site but there don't seem to be audio drivers available for this laptop for windows 10.Realtek reference drivers also don't solve the issue.

Is there a solution for this?

Answer:Subwoofer on Inspiron 17r SE 7720 not working in win10

Hello. Has anyone tried installing the audio driver? There is no Win10 audio driver for the Inspiron 17R SE 7720, so you have to use the IDT audio driver for Win8.1 and install it by using compatibility mode.
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop.2. Double click on the new icon on the desktop to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).6. Find the "setup.exe" file.7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.8. Select the Properties.9. Select the Compatibility tab.10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Win8.1.If installing the IDT driver does not work then I would suggest that you revert the laptop back to the operating system in which the audio worked correctly, unless there is a compelling reason to have the Win10 operating system. Dell will not be putting out any new audio drivers for the Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and Win10's audio management in laptops models where the audio is not supported has not been encouraging.

Hi, I just bought a brand new ASUS N series today, and it came with a sonicmaster subwoofer, which unfortunately doesn't work. Whatever I play it comes out of the regular computer speakers, and I've made sure all the time that the sub was plugged correctly and at the right place (subwoofer jack, just like it says in the manual).

So what can I do here ?

Thanks for the help

Answer:ASUS Sonicmaster Subwoofer not working (not detected ?)

I'm having the same trouble in Windows 8 but it works lovely under 7 (I'm dual booting) I think there is a bit of software missing for 8 which I may have just found - will update shortly.

Answer:HP Touchsmart 520-1010sc subwoofer output isn't working

Hello @Leehhi , I understand that you are having issues with your HP TouchSmart 520-1010sc Desktop PC and your sound system specifically your subwoofer. I am providing you with the HP Support document: HP Desktop PCs - No Sound from the Speakers or Headphones (Windows 7), which will walk you through identifying what is wrong and correcting it. As it is just the subwoofer that is not working correctly I believe it is just a setting that needs to be adjusted. Please re-post if you still require additional support. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Hi,

How can I verify that subwoofer is working properly?

In some circumstances I encounter (or have the impression) that sound "escapes" towards the screen that in my opinion is not a proper behavior.
However this phenomena is not continuous and never appears while notebook is not laying down on the table (i.e. subwoofer is not in horizontal position)

Answer:How can I verify that subwoofer is working properly on Satellite X200?

Hi

I don?t know what sound behavior do you mean exactly but fact is that the notebook Satellite X200 is equipped with the Realtek Sound Manger.
You can find the settings in the control panel.

This Realtek sound manager controls different sound settings like ?Sound Effects?, Dolby Home Theater and an additional speaker configuration.

All these options affect the sound quality and the acoustic perception.

Should play a little bit with these options!

Hello,
i have important question, which is annoying me all day yet. I really dont know what to do yet. I have problem with my 5.1 audio speakers ( Genius sw-hf 5.1 4500 ,230V-EU ) . I am daily using windows 10 and i had my speakers connected to pc as stereo /2xcinch to 3,5mm jack connected to line-out conector/ . Everything worked fine.

My speakers are 5.1 and this motherboard which i bought, has 7.1-CHannel, so i wanted connect my speakers as 5.1 system and use for gaming....
Problem is that SUBWOOFER IS NOT PLAYING. I tried couple times reinstall couple drivers from realtek or check and connect speakers different way but i still didnt figure it out and its really annyoing yet. I installed windows 7 on second HDD but even in win7 is not working too! When i am using stereo then is everything fine...

Right now i have connected my speakers like this :
-subwoofer+central by reduction (which i did buy specially because wasnt in package with speakers) 2xcinch-3,5mm jack connected to CS-Out
-rear same reduction connected to RS-Out
-front same reduction connected to Line-Out

In realtek HD Audio Manager i choosed 5.1 , when i was connecting speakers i ticked what i am connecting ,but when i connected front into Line-Out it didnt pop-up any window to confirm that speakers (but they are playing) ..

When i am ticking choice ,,swap center/subwoofer output, subwoofer is playing center sound and i feel basses, so subwoofer is working, its not physical y broken,.

I just purchased a 2.1 speaker set (with only 1 output jack - lime green) and connected it to the headphone jack. It works normally, ONLY that the subwoofer is not. I tried using the speaker set on my mp3 player and the subwoofer works perfectly.

Why is my subwoofer not working properly when connected to my laptop? Is it because of the soundcard of the laptop? Someone please help. Thanks a lot.

Answer:Equium A110-354: Subwoofer not working properly on 2.1 speaker system

Hi

Try this:
- Go to the control panel and choose ?sound and audio devices?
- under Volume tab choose the ?Advanced? from the speaker settings
- Advanced audio properties should open. There you could select the right speaker system.

PS: The Toshiba virtual sound program should be installed on this notebook. You should really check this program. There you can select listening environment and mode.

So I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 17 7000 series laptop and was super stoked.
Then I got home and noticed it has a lot of audio problems.
When I plug in my external speakers I get a sharp, loud, startling crackling noise when I sometimes change windows.
More importantly, my external speakers are not working with this Dell.   The subwoofer has NO SOUND coming out at all.  The non-subwoofer speakers seem to work fine.

I tried downloading both audio drivers that were mentioned by the verifed answer in the thread here  but I get this error message each time:
Some one please help!  I spent too much on this Dell to get this problem.  Every laptop I've boughten has worked perfectly out of the box except this Dell.

I am not sure if it's related to a malware. so I posted it here. My system is a xp pro, sp3 ,IE7 . I have a wireless networking with total 2 computer attached. My system was running smooth then I don't know why from time to time when clicking on links in IE7 would produce no result. Then I would have no more connection to wireless network and no internet. However the other computer attached to router would still have internet. Then I would try to bring up task manager ctrl+alt+del but it won't show. later I will have freeze but not for the whole computer. when I try to restart computer it won't do it, or very very slow. error message is usually " hsm sink won't end" or something similar, I end manually, still windows won't shutdown. Finally I have to hold power button to shutdown and restarts.
There is not specific time period for this to start to happen, 1-2 or 3 hours. I don't know what triggers it. I thought maybe IE7 is the problem so I started using google Chrome browser. I still have this happening.
I have the DDs text here, and the other 2 logs attached. I disabled panda antivirus before starting this process.

Thanks

Desktop Icons Not Working, Restart Works, Then Stop Working Again.

I use Internet Explorer and am on the computer many hours a day. I have a Dell Inspiron 620 with Windows 7 Pro 64.

This problem started a few weeks ago. The desktop icons stop working but start working again after a RESTART. I've tried to bypass the desktop by using START to access programs. This has limited success. I tried putting a desktop folder with my favorite websites on the START menu but that causes the entire screen to stop working when the icon problem occurs. I also tried putting DESKTOP on the TASKBAR. That creates the same problem as with START. The whole screen stops working and I must force a restart by shutting off the computer by pushing the COMPUTER ON button. Once it restarts, I run the computer until the malfunction occurs. Once I removed the DESKTOP from the TASKBAR, the problem only effects the desktop as before.

Do you have any ideas?

My new problem is that the control panel of the software doesn't work properly. Meaning if I set my sound via the sound control to the minimum volume, it still produces sounds. Or even if I mute it, it still produces sound as if it were on medium level.

That means that I cannot fix the way the speakers sound and such. Meaning if I wanted to increase the subwoofer volume and decrease the front and rear speakers, it won't allow me since the control panel is pretty much useless (non functioning). I uninstalled my old Soundmax driver and i'm about to restart the computer. But yeah is there a way to fix this?
As of now I restarted the computer. And the soundmax card reinstalled itself. I'm thinking in order to set the Sound Control Panel (Windows Default) and the M-Audio 5.1 Control Panel, i might have to set up the default sound driver / card.

How would I do that?

Hello:
I am having a problem with my Browsers (both IE, Firefox and Thunderbird) stop working after a short period of time after starting them. this time varies from start to start. My other internet programs like Azureus keep working. When I restart windows the Browsers work again for a short time and then stop again. I have tried the following:
FIRST THING I TRIED:

From Posted Topic on website:

"I'd been having a similar problem...the web browser would stop working after 15-20 minutes of internet activity. It took me about 2 minutes to fix following a fairly simple procedure.

The problem for me was that the DNS cache overflowed after a little while, so I simply added registry keys to prevent caching. This can be done as follows:

1. First thing you need to do is clear your current cache. At the command prompt (Run -> command) type in ipconfig /flushdns If everything went well ipconfig should spit out a line about successfully flushing the cache.
2. Now get into the registry editor (Run -> regedit). Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters

3. Right click in the space to the right and select New -> DWORD Value. Name the DWORD MaxCacheTtl and make sure its value is 0. Values can be changed simply by double-clicking on the DWORD.

4. Create another new DWORD. Name this one MaxNegativeCacheTtl and again make sure its value is 0.

5.Close regedit and restart."

Like it says in the subject title I've noticed that my fan in my t440 would suddenly stop working normally once a week, doens't matter how long before/after a full shutdown it just does that, a restart fixes the problem. I'm not sure why this is happening though. Other symptoms, computer continues to run, but processor is clocked at minimum speed, the bottom of the case gets unconfortably warm. Serial #: PF00H7Q7Specs: OS: Windows 8.1 w/ i5-4300UThinkpad model: T440 Thank you to anyone who can help shed some light on this.

Basically yesterday I replugged my headset in and all of a sudden no sound started coming through but the mic still worked, people could hear me. So I decided to see if the actual headset was broken in Hardware and Sound in the control panel but the sound bars of the headset rise accordingly to my music. It's as if my headset if working but its disabled. I'm not too sure what to do at this point.

Sounds like something has happened to the headset, based on what you report.
What type of headset is this? USB? or does it have a 3.5mm stereo plug(s)?

Can you try it on a different PC to see if it works OK or not?
