Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - compatible SSDs

Question: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - compatible SSDs

Hello dear Community! I've got a Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 notebook, purchased 4 years ago.Not so long ago the HDD just went wrong again so now I'd like to put an SSD in it instead of a new HDD.Here's my first found: SSD Kingston 240 GB SSD, V300, 7mm (other specs: 2,5 inch, SATA3 interface). So, my question #1 is whether this SSD will be okay for my machine or not?If not could You just suggest me another ones that are compatible with it for sure (around the same capacity)? Another but not so important question #2: is it possible that changing the drive manually (no guarantee anymore) will cause the original (with-purchased) Win7 OS not working? Thank You very much for Your response in advance! Best regards,Zsolt László

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - compatible SSDs

hi Zsolt,

Welcome to the Forums.

I haven't seen anyone used the Kingston 240 GB SSD on the Z570 but it should work as it's a 2.5" drive (ensure that you can return the item though just in case the BIOS doesn't detect it).

Alternatively, you can opt to get another brand like the Samsung Evo as other users have tested it on this unit.

Video:
Samsung SSD on the Z570

As for the OS, Windows should automatically activate itself once you re-install Windows (e.g., From a backup, a recovery disc, or fresh install) but in case it doesn't activate, you will need to activate it by phone.

Hello, I've just purchased the Lenovo Z510 Intel Core i7 (model 20287) and I've got a few queries: 1. if there is one mSATA connector available and free (not already connected) so I could be able to add an ADATA XPG SX300 mSATA SSD? this one is compatible with lenovo products?2. if yes (compatible) ,I can be able to install the Win7 OS after and if system will recognize the new ssd? any tutorial?3. if no (not compatible), what are Lenovo laptops compatible with mSATA ?  Many thanks in advance! Charlotte.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 (20287) - Compatible mSATA SSDs?

hi Charlotte,

Regarding your questions:
1. Looking at the specs sheet, the Ideapad Z510 does have a mini PCie card slot to fit an mSATA SSD but it doesn't indicate that it supports mSATA data signaling (and this slot is occupied by the wireless adapter).
  - Link to picture (page 27 of the HMM)
  - Z510 Specs

2. Not compatible. If you're leaning towards an SSD upgrade, you could consider getting a regular 2.5" SATA SSD and replace the HDD with the SSD and install Windows 7 on it. Check this thread as other users have sucessfully installed Win7 on their Z510.

3. Natively, these are some of the systems that supports mSATA:
   - IdeaPad Y400 / Y500
   - IdeaPad Yoga 13
   - IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro
   - IdeaPad U310 / U410 / U510
   - IdeaPad Y580

Sample articles / videos:
Y500 mSATA
Yoga 13 mSATA
U410 mSATA upgrade

Hello, I have the Lenovo Y570 with the 64 GB SSD version. As most of you know the SSD is connected via a Mini PCI-e slot. Due to the limited size of the SSD, I would like to replace it with a bigger one (about 256 GB), which should also be connected via the Mini PCI-e port. I was thinking about the Crucial m4 mSATA 256 GB. I contacted the official Crucial support and I was told that this SSD and the Y570 are not fully compatible. So I searched through the internet and it seems like Lenovo has some kind of whitelist which restricts the mSATA port to only a few SSDs. (e.g. the Intel series 310 with 80 GB seems to be working fine.) So I wondered if anyone can tell me, if there is a such whitelist and what mSATA SSDs are compatible with the Lenovo Y570? If this question is allowed: If there's such a list, is there a way to surpass it, for example with a new BIOS or a modified BIOS? (As far as I have heard SSD connected via a normal SATA controller are not restricted, but I don't want to replace the HDD or the optical drive with a 2,5'' SSD when there's a Mini PCI-e port available.)

Answer:Lenovo y570 - Compatible mSATA SSDs?

Hello ka17, I have Y560p and my laptop has two expanding slots. One is mini PCIe slot and the other is mSATA slot. As you can see in the link below you cannot install mSATA SSDs in mini PCIe slot, only in mSATA slot. That is why Crucial support couldn't give you the green light to install their m4 SSD. It is possible that your BIOS is not going to recognize that drive. Maybe there are some drives that are supported for Y570, but personally I don't think that they are bigger then 80GB, I read somewhere that this is an electrical issue, but it's only what I read online, not the exact statement! http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Installing-mSATA-SSD-In-Y560p/ta-p/418343 Hope this helps a little. Cheers

I am considering buying the only 1 HDD TB variant of this laptop and i would like to know if it is possible to add an SSD to it (without removing the HDD). Also, how many RAM memory slots does it have?

Answer:Lenovo Legion Y720 Compatible SSDs and RAM memory

The SSD and HDD can both be installed at the same time AND I believe you can remove/install either without touching the other.  The only thing under (actually above but will be below when the machine is upside down with the back panel off) the M.2 SSD is the XBox communication card thing.  On my Y720 I opted to get no HDD and the empty space where it would reside is not covered or obstructed by anything.  There are two memory slots, so if you get only 8GB of memory it will probably be a single 8GB module and the memory will only be running in single channel mode.  FYI - the factory installed memory on my Y720 was quality samsung stuff so the cost to go from 8GB to 16GB is a pretty good deal IIRC.  If you decide to go low on memory and upgrade later, it is CAS 17 latency so make sure you get some CAS 17 stuff for compatability and best performance with the motherboard/chipset.

So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 750 GB
BIOS: 45CN36WW

It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.

So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.

Anybody have any suggestions on what the probl... Read more

I can't find most drivers and the machine's important Apps for my lenovo ideapad z570..I have recently upgraded my machine from Windows 7 Home Premium.. I have format the machine and repartitioned it and made a fresh install of windows 8 Pro..The OS seams to be more than fascinating, of course it needs a touch screen device to get the most out of its functions, but it's doing more than fine on the Z570..All I need here is the full compatible drivers and apps list for Windows8 which it seems to be lenovo is not supporting yet, they make available of the Drivers and Apps that only can make the machine (JUST) working...Also I need to make a full format for my HDD so I can make a proper fresh install of the Windows once more,Thanks.

The Lenovo IdeaPad I'm working on has an issue wherein the built-in webcam claims to be "being used by another program" when opened with Skype and easycam, and online webcam checkers also failed to register a picture. I tried the following approaches:Reinstalling drivers.enabling, then disabling the device.Uninstall, then reinstall both skype and YouCamupdate Microsoft Windows 7 with all service packagesupdate all driversrollback webcam driversUse task manager to disable all non-system processesused Process Explorer to search for programs containing the #vid tag  I'm officially stumped, the webcam was confirmed to work originally- I can't say if there's a hardware failure, and regardless of the method I use the system claims that the webcam is being used by another program  Please Help, and thank you for your time.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 EasyCam

You can try this, uninstall Lenovo EasyCamera software and use standard driver.
Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Uninstall Lenovo EasyCamera driver.

If the issue persist then update the BIOS and reinstall Lenovo energy management software.
Please refer to the web link to download the updates.

I'm not the greatest when it comes to computers (yet).  I have a quick learning curve.  I have managed to install Linux Mint (Ubuntu) on my lenovo.  Its a slick OS.  I really would like to see if it's possible to install a new processor.  I would like to go from the i3 to an i5 at minimum but would prefer a decent i7 quad core + hyperthreading.  Would this require a new motherboard? Would there even be enough room in the laptop itself?  I'm good with the software aspects of computers but hardware, not so much.  If you would need more details in regards to the exact specs, please let me know.  I really hope someone can help! By the way, the reason I'm willing to invest in this is because I would like to have some sort of experience before i actually hit my computer engineering classes with hardware on top of having a slick running machine.

After reading what i have on various forums, seems we're not the only people facing this issue. The laptop, Z570 (1024-6JG) was a christmas present to a child recently diagnosed with aspergers. This laptop is the only computer they have, and she has to attend a Virtual Classroom. She has now basically lost her work and cannot access her education. The laptop in question has suddenly stopped working. It was shut down normally, kept safe on a desk, lid was closed. Came to it the next morning and....nothing happens. There are no LEDs lighting up whatsoever, not even the charge LED, which worked before. It does not respond to the power button at all, with just battery, just mains charger or both! Basically, what i really need is for Lenovo to actually support a product for once. So what are the options? I have read that one option is to have one sent out so we can swap the hard drives around - that would be perfect. The other option is to be sent or, if it will resolve the issue quickly, purchase a motherboard from you. I can't seem to source one anywhere on the internet, seems i need to contact you (Lenovo) directly. Any help in this matter would be much appreciated. I just didn't want to ring some number just to be told it was the wrong one or there's nothing that could be done. For a laptop that isn't even 6 months old yet, i find it scandalous that it can just suddenly die like this. What happened to the legendary reliability that is IBM Thinkpad? The most recent IB... Hi everyone, I recently reformatted my Lenovo Ideapad Z570 and it seemed to work fine however, there was a major issue in that I couldn't get the wireless to work at home. When I was at home, when I pressed FN+F5, the list of wireless network adapters would appear but it would only be the bluetooth there and the wireless network card wouldn't even appear there. Sometimes when I was away from home, it would appear but I cannot control when it appears.  When it appears I can turn it on allowing me wireless capability and I can use it completely fine until I shut down the laptop. Then when I restart my laptop, the wireless network card doesn't appear in the FN+F5 menu anymore. I think Energy management was automatically turning off my wireless capacity, and so I went to Device Manager and unclicked the box which allowed this automatic turning off of the wireless capacity but I still wasn't able to find the Wireless Netword Card in the FN+F5 menu. Today I tried to fix it but ended up uninstalling LENOVO Energy Management program on my laptop and now its even worse. I have lost the function menus and I can't even see the menus anymore.  Before I reformatted my computer I never had these issues, nor did I even have to turn on and off the wireless capacity, it would just always be on.  I installed the Lenovo Solution Centre and when I run a hardware scan it would have Warning appear under every box for the Intel (R) Centrino(R) Wireless N... I bought it last year 8/31/2012, almost 1 month after 1 year warranty, there is a brighter mountain-shaped area like a scar at the bottom, with size of 1 sq in. I think it may be a manufacturing problem, does anyone have the same problem?

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 LCD Problem about 1 year.

hi dehongma,

Welcome to the Forums.

The issue that you're having is most likely similar to this thread. If the mountain shaped area is the same as this picture then you may have a case of backlight bleeding  Try to lower down the screen's brightness and see if it helps. Other users in this thread found out that slightly tapping their finger around the backlight bleeding area helps.

If you still get the same problem, you may need to open up the lcd screen and apply some tape on the backlight bleeding area or replace the entire screen.

Hello everyone.  My Ideapad Z570 refuses to show the bios screen after it turns on.  What happens is the power led and media bar will light, but no other activity happens.  It has been diagnosed that the bios chip needs to be re-flashed.  How do you perform an emergency bios recovery on the Z570?  The methods described for the Y560 do NOT work for me, although the laptop tries to access the USB drive when holding fn + R. Any and all help is appreciated, I am avoiding to contact Lenovo since the warranty is expired. (or any tips on negotiating with Lenovo support helps too)

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z570 Bios Recovery

If a BIOS recovery was possible you would need to have a bootable machine to do it.  From your description it sounds like your system is hanging during the boot process.  If that is the case then a defective piece of hardware will prevent the machine from sucessfully booting.  Try removing all hardware items from the laptop such as the hard drive, optical drive, wireless/lan card(s) and memory.  With the memory removed, the machine should at least beep an error code.  If the system shows any sign of life then start re-installing hardware one piece at a time.  Put the memory back in one module at a time and try booting.  If it still shows life then add another piece of hardware.  Keep doing this until the no boot scenario returns.  That should give you an indication of what hardware item is causing the problem.

I think my laptop's fan needs replacement. I was sitting quietly, using my laptop when suddenly it started making weird noise and vibrating horribly. I figured out that the cooling fan is making these horrible vibrations. The fan is working properly but is making my entire laptop vibrate. Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad z570 Cooling Fan problem

I assume that you have tried using some compressed air on the fan to blow out any accumulated dust and that did not work. I also assume that when you had the back off you visibly inspected the fan to insure that nothing was caught in the fan blades such as a small piece of paper.  If you have tried all that and the fan is still noisy and vibrates then I would replace the fan.  In the event a Lenovo Moderator doesn't stop in with information on obtaining a Lenovo replacement part, you could also just buy a replacement fan off eBay.  There are a number of sellers that will ship worldwide and page 65 of your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual will explain how to do it.  Below is a direct download of the Z570 manual.... http://download.lenovo.com/UserFiles/UserGuide/en/User's%20guides%20and%20manuals/Z370&Z470&Z570/Len...

Hi,  have a bricked Lenovo Z570 machine that is not able to boot any Windows 7 retail disc or Ubuntu disc (to perform a recovery). My partition table is a mess right now (can not boot anything) and I can not reinstall either since every single disc I try (including Boot Repair) will not boot, crash or hang as with Windows 7 one that hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen. My machine came with a certain BIOS version (can not remember which), l was able to install a retail Windows 7 Pro and dual Ubuntu 12.04 boot (so far, so good) BUT then I had the TERRIBLE idea of updating my BIOS to 45CN38WW and now it seems it will not boot anything!!! I can not even change the boot order in my VERY limited Phoenix SecureCore Tiano BIOS. I have tried everything...Windows XP, Windows 7 (several versions), Ubuntu 11.x, Ubuntu 12.x and Ubuntu 14.x and all of them fail (Ubuntu even complains about a kernel error and reports something related to the BIOS so my guess is that it is the only thing that explains this behavior).I'm looking for an OLD version of the BIOS for this computer, I just need a download link since telephone support agent said to me that the only BIOS available is the one in the Downloads page for the Z570, I really can not believe that there is no other link to previous versions of software components. Thanks for the help

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

After a BIOS update it doesn't hurt to do a reset of the BIOS.  Just do this.........

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

As for obtaining your earlier BIOS version that might not be possible unless someone has it available on the Internet.  Lenovo unfortunately does not have older BIOS versions available, only the latest release.

hello I have Lenovo ideapad z570 my DVD Drive was working fine month ago now suddenly when I m trying to use again its not working I have tried many DVDs but not even detecting please help :-( thanks

Answer:lenovo ideapad z570 my dvd drive is not working

Hi larikrohail,

Your DVD drive head is probably dirty. That can happen when the drive sits for a long time without being used. There are 2 solutions for this condition. I use both.

1. Buy a CD drive cleaner disk. The cleaner disk has a tiny "comb" on the underside, that will wipe the dust off the optical drive head.

2. Pull out the drive tray. Use a 70% solution of rubbing alcohol applied to a cuetip (or cotton swab), and gently clean the dust, and dirt that has built up on the laser drive head. Be careful not to damage the drive head assembly.

Dear Members,I am in trouble with my  Idea Pad Z570: I bought it couple of years ago running Windows 7. During the years of usage I had no trouble at all. With Windows 10 beeing released, I upgraded and it starts to make a lot of troubles: Bluescreen directly after boot or sign in, no WiFi, ... all the known stuff. So I decided last week to downgrade to Windows 7. But now, I am even in a bigger trouble:I tried to boot the Windows 7 from DVD and it crashed into Bluescreen saying: Windows Error 0xc0000225Restarting is not helping. So, i tried to go into BIOS to boot from another device, but I do not even get to BIOS or UEFI. So, thats a kind of Deadlock: I cannot boot from Harddisk because Windows Error 0xc0000225 appears and I cannot get into BIOS & UEFI because the Windows error 0xc0000225 comes before getting to BIOS. Hope this description of my current situation is understandable and you guys have a lot of ideas how to fix it. Thanks!TheGooner

Hey.I've got a new problem on my Lenovo Ideapad Z570, everytime I turn on my laptop, it gets stuck at Lenovo splash.Every time, I've to plugin the adapter and press the start button and when it freezes at the Lenovo splash, I plug-out then I connect it again. And when I get lucky, it continues the start-up after waiting +25 seconds freezing on the Lenovo splash and it's really too slow.at booting. - I removed/unsitalled some games and some programs.- I scanned for viruses using Malwarebytes. But none of those helped. So I tried to search on the internet and it looks like it's BIOS issue(s), but not sure. So, what's really the problem ? And how I'm able to solve it ? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo ideapad z570 keyboard some keys are not working.

hi Lalit,

Welcome to the Forums.

It's odd that some of the keyboard keys are still not working even after a keyboard replacement (btw, is this replacement keyboard brand new?).

If connecting a USB keyboard works fine then there's most likely a problem with the replacement keyboard or the keyboard connector from the motherboard. In this case, I would first get the replacement keyboard RMA'ed to rule out a bad replacement keyboard. If this doesn't fix it, consider bringing the unit to a local computer repair center for checkup.

Integrated:Intel HD 3000 GraphicsDedicated:NVIDIA GT 540MDescription of issue:Integrated is acting as main even when dedicated should take over (e.g. gaming). This causes problems, unacceptable ones, during gameplay when an intergated GPU just won't cut it. Framerate (with Vertical Sync off) reaches 160~ FPS when idle in-game but when minimal effects appear on screen a huge drop in FPS is witnessed (down to 5-10 FPS). This renders the game (League Of Legends) unplayable despite the low demandings it has. Not an issue of the game, as other more demanding games have same problems. What I've tried:Sorted from common solution to less commonTried setting preffered GPU processor in NVIDIA control panel ---> Manage 3D settings ---> General settings. Option is greyed out and stack at "integrated graphics processor".Tried setting game-specific preferences in NVIDIA control panel. Didn't help at all. Monitoring GPU's activity with GPU-z showed a case of high GPU usage on Intel and almost iddle on NVIDIA.Tried running executable with a chosen processor by right clicking on it, option is greyed out, can't choose one of two processors.Changed both GPU's settings to performance instead of quality, checked max performance over long battery life. Still not a big change.Headed to BIOS to disable integrated GPU, found that only option is either UMA only / Optimus, Optimus was chosen, left as is.Checked for updates on drivers, didn't help.Tried disabling Intel GPU through Device Manag... I kept the laptop on overnight but it did not finish, so I was forced to restart Windows. Now laptop turns on but no video on LCD. I know there is a special process to recover corrupt BIOS, with USB drive and some ?Fn? keys. I will appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

I have an older Ideapad z570, it made a popping sound and it won't power up now either.  I ordered a replacement adapter from lenovo thinking that was the issue as the light on the adapter was not coming on when it was plugged in.

After reading some of these boards, it appears I might have an issue with the mother board.  I would like to see abou getting it replaced, but there are no repair centers close to me, and I cannot find any information on Lenovo's webiste as to who I can contact or where I can send it.
And information to this end would  be greatly appreciated.  Sorry to tack on to this thread, but seemed silly to create another one for the same issue.

Thanks,

Mod's Edit: Since your issue involves a different model it was moved to its own thread in the correct forum in the Lenovo Z series notebook.

Hi So after upgrading to Windows 10 yesterday, I decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 as it was a bit laggy. Now after getting the Windows from the Microsoft website and booting from a USB drive, I did a clean install of Windows 10. But after the notification tray loads, the wifi icon has a small red X mark next to it and when I select it, there are no networks being shown. When I go to settings ( Network & Internet ), on the first WiFi tab, it shows Wi-Fi as off and no matter how many times I press it doesn't stay on. I have no idea what is wrong with my laptop or why the setting is stuck on off. The master switch is set at ON. As a complete novice when it comes to these matters, I begging the community here for help as otherwise I won't be able to use my laptop without internet connection. Please help.

Answer:Help! I screwed up my Lenovo Ideapad Z570 Laptop with Windows 10

Try using another computer to download the drivers for your wireless card onto a flash drive. Once the drivers are downloaded, put the flash drive into your laptop and install the drivers from there. Hopefully this will solve the issue. If you have an Intel WLAN card, you can go to the Intel Download Center and find your product. Alternatively, you can go to the Lenovo product page and find drivers there. Let me know if you need links .

If you have a z570 you'll know that they have a switchable graphic system controlled by a switch at the front of the laptop. However, after a repair by KNOWHOW, this switch is gone - they replaced the base plate obviously with the wrong model parts. Is there any way I can bypass this switch and enable my Nvidia card manually? At the moment it's greyed out in the control panel and I can't use it to play any games. This laptop used to have the switch. The Nvidia card in question is GT520M

I have decided to upgrade my laptop's Wi-Fi modem to the newer one. So, I have checked the hardware maintenance manual for my laptop for the needed equipment and found out that the best option would be "WLAN card, 802.11a/g/n && 802.16e, Intel 6250NX MOW M PCIE NB HMC" (FRU number: 20002321). So, I have purchased this WLAN card and after the hardware installation BIOS started to display "104-unsupported network device detected" error. Even though I have upgraded BIOS to the latest available version. It would be great to have some explanation about the hardware compatibility. Otherwise it seems that I have just wasted my money on incompatible hardware.

Answer:want to change compability to AHCI mode in lenovo z570 ideapad

Hi Sushant,

Compatible setting is compatible to IDE host controller mode and a must if you want to e.g. install
Windows XP on your machine,
some time ago I temporary installed Win XP on my IdeaPad Y560p and changed it to compatible,
then going back to Win 7 I forgot to change it back to AHCI mode.

I find absolutely no difference in performance and out of laziness left it set in compatible mode.
If your Z570 works fine, just use it as is, but if there is a performance issue with your machine,
it's a different cause and has nothing to do with AHCI / Compatible settings...
http://www.diffen.com/difference/AHCI_vs_IDE

Regarding Win 8, there are still many problems with upgrading to this brand-new Windows version.
I suggest you to just enjoy your Z570 as is.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Happy computing... Zehn

My Windows 7 basically blew up and is no longer working. I tried a one-key recovery as well which utterly failed. As a last resort I tried using Windows 7 recovery disks sent by Lenovo. There are 4 disks 1,2,3, and an additional disk. Everything seemed to be going somewhat smoothly, although slow up until disk 3. The screen shows

"Current Item: ApplyOs" "Recover process is running please don't remove your power adapter."

It's been like this for days. The blue bar load bar under it seems to still be running. Tried again, this time with 4 different disks sent by Lenovo. The first 3 disks went a bit faster, but the end result was still the same, getting stuck on "ApplyOs". Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Hello there!Would somebody be so kind as to tell me how I am able to turn off UEFI mode in BIOS of my Lenovo IdeaPad Z570?(I can see very few things and options in the BIOS menu at the moment.)It's necessary, since I'd like to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium to my computer and during the installation process there is an error message - while choosing the partition where to install the system: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."And I've read somewhere that turning UEFI mode off would solve the problem.By the way, I'd appreciate any other ideas or suggestions to solve this problem.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - MBR/GPT disk problem (or BIOS/UEFU)

There are two solutions for your problem.WARNING! Both the ways that I suggest will ERASE ALL OF YOUR DATA ON YOUR HD! If you have anything you want to save, copy it before doing it.First, easy, is to erase all partitions from your disk via windows installation utility. Then, windows will offer you to convert disk to GPT.Or, if windows doesn't do it in this 'automatic' way, you can convert disk to GPT using diskpart. For this, use this manual to access console http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/682-command-prompt-startup.htmlThen, type following commandsdiskpartWait until it loads, and thenLIST DISK <-- this will list currently connected disks, you should determine which of the disks is the one on which you want to install windows and remember its number.SELECT DISK <0> <--you should replace <0> with the number you had on previous stage, in most cases, it would be 0CLEANCONVERT GPTCREATE PARTITION EFI SIZE=200 OFFSET=1024SELECT PARTITION 1FORMAT FS=FAT32 QUICKCREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=<size_for_win_partition_in_megabytes> OFFSET=206848SELECT PARTITION 2FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK That should be all) After this, you should be able to install windows on your hard drive.

Hello everybody,I have a very weird problem with my synaptic touchpad. I've clean install of windows 8 and the newest synaptic drivers because I thought it was a problem from the Windows ( before that i was with windows 7 and it has the same behavior).So... the problem is that both touchpad buttons work like Right button. When I click on the left button it has the same behavior as the right button - the context menu appears and simultaniously it catch the left click. I just want normal click behavior. It is not from the settings of the synaptic driver. There everything seems to be all right  - the left button has the normal click and normal drag setting, and the right click has the context menu and special drag setting but they work absolutely equal. It is very disturbing to work with the touchpad in this way.  Have got any suggestions?Thank you in advance and happy new years eve,Plamen

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 synaptic touch pad buttons problem

hi plamen_yovchev,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

What you can try is to:
1. Boot into Safe Mode (press F8 upon boot-up) and observe, if it works, try to perform a clean boot to isolate if there's a software that's causing the unit to right click..
2. If the problem persist, there's a possible short on the Touchpad. What you can try is:to re-seat the Touchpad and re-arrange the Touchpad cable (see page 1090 on how to remove the Keyboarad Bezel - this will detach the Touchpad board) or check this video as it will show how to detach the whole thing.

If re-seating the touchpad board & touchpad cable doesn't work and If you left click then suddenly the right click context menu pop's up, this could mean a short on the touchpad sensor or the left clicker is touching a part on the motherboard that's causing the issue. Sometimes this happens if the touchpad gets worn out overtime from continuous use and you will need to contact Lenovo for service to get it fixed. Support phone list here.

Hope this helps..

But it is an old installation, and, when I try to download the ISO from Windows using the product key and S/N, I'm told: "the product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer." When I go to Lenovo, the customer support number did not call me back. Looking through the docs, I am less optimistic that there is a supported way to do this. Has anyone gone through this and can offer any advice? Thank you,Patty

Hi all, Having multiple problems with my z570, initally started booting up very slowly and running system repair automatically, and could eventually load onto desktop. Then system repair to load to no desktop giving an error code 6.1.7600.16385, corrupt driver etc. Sometimes same error code with NoOS Now seems to boot up only to launch chkdsk automatically which then reboots and starts again. Naively I did not make recovery disks, nor a restore point however I have purchased recovery disks from lenovo which should arrive next week. The plot thickens some what as the Window 7 product key has been worn and is not legible anymore. Will I need the key during the use of recovery disks? If not if there anyway of retrieving it off the machine baring in mind currently I cannot reach desktop? If this is not the case, does anyone know who to contact be it Microsoft, Lenovo or where I originally purhased the machine?  I thank you all in advance!

Answer:Ideapad Z570 - Failing to boot - Lenovo recover disk query.

Hi hazza257 and welcome to the community,

The recovery discs are pre-activated, so you won't have to enter any keys.

You might want to run a linux live from a usb flash drive or cd and run some diagnostics on the hard drive. You might have a problem with the hard drive.

Yesterday afternoon I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Z575 for $499.00 from this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246328

Obviously, it hasn't come in the mail yet. I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in the laptop. It comes with 6gb of RAM, a 4gb stick and a 2gb stick. The problem is, I don't really know what kind of RAM is in the computer. I'm looking to replace the 2gb stick with a second 4gb stick.

The type of RAM the laptop uses is pc3-10600 1333mhz ddr3, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin so-dimm socket RAM.

My question is whether or not this RAM is compatible with the laptop: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Extreme-MV-3T4G3-US/dp/B00591ZYX8

Also, if there is a better option for RAM for this laptop, I'd like to know.

Answer:Solved: Is this RAM compatible with my Lenovo IdeaPad Z575?

Honestly, I think I may have mental problems. It looks like I answered my own question in this post. That RAM is compatible with my laptop. So I guess I'd just like to know if this RAM is the best option for this particular laptop.

Hey guys,  I have the Lenovo Ideapad 520 (80YL00RXIN) and wanted to replace the CD Drive with the Samsung 850 Evo 250GB Solid State Drive  in order to increase the Boot Speed and over-all speed of the laptop.  So, the question is, Is the Samsung 850 Evo SSD compatible with my laptop? And will it fit in terms of size, in place of the CD Drive? Also, is it recommended to add the SSD? Any downsides to doing so?  Lastly, will I, someone who knows the basics about computers and the internal components of a computer, be able to install the SSD myself? Or would I rather outsource it to someone who deals in things like this? Thank you. Regards,Neel.

My P50 is on the way, and I got it with the 2.5" 256GB SSD. I also have ordered the Mobile Workstation Storage Kit needed to add hard drives.  I have gone on sites like Best Buy looking for SSDs, and the drive interfaces they have there are: SATA, Other, Mini-SATA, USB 3.0 and Serial ATA. I'm also confused about the NVMe vs PCIe vs M2. What are the exact specifications of any M2 SSD that will work with the P50? Both in terms of the things above, and also physical size. Also, would this one work?

I just purchased a Crucial M500 240GB SSD to upgrade my T420 and after installation and reboot I get the dreaded "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)" error.   After Googling it seems that this is a common problem with ThinkPads and various SSD's it also appears that there is no known solution other than changingt to another drive. I would like to think that there are some SSDs  that don't cause this error and are safe to purchase knowing that THEY WILL work in the ThinkPad models.  Is there such a list of compatible SSD drives?  Sure I can return the M500 and try an Intel or Samsung but would these drives also be susceptible to the problem? Hoping I will be able to use my fantastic T420 with an SSD in the future.  In the meantime I will be installing using a spinning Seagate HDD. Thanks in advance for any suggestions Paul

Answer:What 2.5" SSDs are compatible with ThinkPads?

Hi,

I run a Crucial M4 mSATA SSD in my T420.  Does your SSD throw that error consistently?  IIRC my SSD did that too after a firmware update.  Crucial explained that they do some internal housekeeping that can make them slow to initialize for a couple of power cycles.  Mine did it once or twice and never again.

Have you checked for firmware updates for the SSD?  I can't guaranted that you don't have a compatibility issue but there may be other explanations.

I am a bit confused about my ENVY dv6 7300 Quad Edition. In the maintanence manual, it says that it does not support SSDs over 160GB. If this is true, then why? I want to upgrade to an SSD, but I will need more space than a measly 160GB. That doesn't even seem to be big enough for the entire OS.

Answer:Is my laptop compatible with SSDs?

Hi, You don't need 160GB for any OS on personal computer. One of my laptop has 120GB SanDisk SSD. I use it for Windows 7 Ultimate, Office Plus 2010, Adobe CS5 suite, Nero 10 suite and few other programs and still have 24GB free. Anyway, back to your question: You can use SSD greater (capacity) 160GB. The sweet spot now is 1TB. Regards.

Hello,
since my next of kin's Lenovo Z570 (with Windows 7 HP x64) started to work very slowly I decided to restore it to its factory settings, I decided to use OneKey Recovery -  everything seemed to be easy. OneKey Recovery started running, to crash after some seconds (with 0% progress ). The only option to choose was to confirm it - computer restarted, but instead of Windows loading screen, I got Windows Boot Manager saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause (...)" I didn't have Windows installation disk nor Windows Recovery/Repair Disk. I decieded to download plain copy of Windows 7 to repair system. I burned DVD with Windows 7, clicked Repair your computer. When it finished its work it said to try to reboot computer, because probalby the problem had been solved. Unfortunatelly, I still got Windows Boot Manager instead of Windows loading screen.I came back to "Repair your computer", but now it said "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. (...)". So I decided to install Windows from the DVD - believing that this will end all of my problems. But when Windows asked me where do I want to install Windows, showed me partitions and I chose one - Windows said that it cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1, because I had selected a disk with MBR partition table - and Windows demanded GPT disk. Nowhere in the documentation, web site is any info about what kind of controller and hence what size SD cards this model is supporting.Even Lenovo tech support doesn't know that info!I am really hesitant to buy a SDXC card of +32GB only to find out it supports on SDHC cards, thus limited to 32GB... thanks for any useful info, Ralf

Answer:What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Hi ITWorxLA,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per system overview :
IO port: Memory card slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)

Platform specification:
One microSD Card slot, supports up to 2TB

Usually there would be stickers on the box or laptop to indicate the format it also supports.
You can try to find/borrow  a spare 32GB SDXC to test first before purchase.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Hello.I guess neither Lenovo or Intel are going to do anything about it, just hope it may help someone.Bought Flex 2 15 and tried installing a new Intel 530 240gb SSD instead of the HDD - doesn't recognize it at all after reboot; after cold boot it sees the SSD, but everything comes out as zeroes (disk utilities show the drive as if it was not initialized, and any attempts to write to it fail). --- By the way, some tips for those who decide to replace HDD or RAM on these laptops:- It's not very hard, but you have to be patient and careful. HDD and RAM are not CRU, so if you damage anything in the process, the warrany will be void.- Read the HMM first.- I highly recommend to get special tools for opening plastic covers. Don't use metal objects like knives as they are much more likely to damage the plastic.- HMM says "loosen the keyboard with fingers" - it's impossible. Use plastic opening tool to carefully grab the top part of the keyboard. Try not to twist the keyboard too much, only apply the pressure in the places where it's attached.- Removing the back cover is relatively easy, but HMM is also confusing here: remove the screws mentioned on p. 38 *first* before removing all the screws from the back cover and opening it.- Use a spudger to pry open the plastic cover, it actually comes off easily after that. I started with the USB port near the DVD drive compartment.- You don't have to remove the battery screws, just detaching the connector b... Read more

Hey everybody.  Had two questions regarding my shiny new Ideapad laptop.  It's the Ideapad 1024A3U, to be specific.  First question is, I recently dropped another 4gb stick of RAM into it, and my graphics WEI jumped from 4.8 to 6.2, using an HD 3000.  Now, I assume this is because the HD 3000 uses system ram, so when i added the 2nd stick, it can now use more ram, but I was wondering if anyone else had seen anything similar.Second question is, I have heard the GPU's are soldered onto the motherboard in the Ideapad line.  But as my Ideapad has only the HD 3000, would it be possible for me to solder one on myself?  I've done some mild solder repair on desktops before, but this is mostly theoretical, for a few years down the road, MAYBE.Thanks for any and all anwsers.  This is my first post, so sorry if anything's a little off!

Answer:Ideapad Z570 GPU question

Welcome to the forum, we are all "a little off", in my opinion! You will not be able to change the GPU, it is actually part of theCPU. Your laptop uses one of the Sandy Bridge processors:

"all of which use a single 32 nm die for both the CPU and integrated GPU cores".
(From Wikipedia.)

There are few if any modern laptops with a gpu that can be changed separately.
There is the possibility of upgrading CPU, though, which may
offer slightly better graphics performance. (Can be expensive.)

I know there's such a thing as a hybrid drive, but it looks like in some cases you can replace a laptop's standard SATA drive with BOTH a solid state drive and a standard SATA. Is this possible with the IdeaPad z570, and if so, what do I need?  Thanks in advance!
