Preferred Solution: z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

Regards

Question: Z580 safe mode

How do I boot a Win 8 Ideapad Z580 to Safe Mode, please? I have tried F8 and shift+F8, as well as running msconfig.exe to set the boot tab to minimal safe mode, with no success. Presumably, UEFI is inhibiting these from working as they would have in a previous OS.

Answer:Z580 safe mode

Hi

Welcome to the community.

To access Safe Mode within Windows itself, press the Windows key + R to open the dialog box and type msconfig, then select Boot and choose the Safe Boot option.

Alternativley, press and hold the Shift key and  F8 while booting up, this will then allow users to get into the Recovery Mode of your Window 8 System.

Go to Advanced Options >> Troubleshoot >> Advanced Options.

Select  Windows Startup Settings >> Restart to reboot systems, this option to get boot into Safe Mode.

Regards,
Sameer

If this ever happens to you, In my case had hard drive fail (hardware failure) This means all data is gone including one step recovery. If that's not enough when I picked up A new hard drive and installed it ( thinking I would just install A new O.S.) On power up it imediatly went to A Power On Password Screen ( prompting for A password which I never creted ) 3 try's and reboot. Now I have A locked out of bios issue and pulling cmos battery will not help thanks to the TPM  ( trusted platform module )Chip installed by Lenovo and they have been doing so since late 2005. It is known in the industry as the Hengzhi chip ( Chinese Trusted Platform Module used in Lenovo ). Once activated you now own A Brick. There is no solution offered by lenovo except replace your motherboard. After constant calls to Lenovo Support such as Software, Hardware, (almost got to engineering) But got connected with there NoWhere Department. I even had one of there techs talk me into pulling cmos battery and waiting 10 minutes ( he knew nothing of password being stored in nvram ) but insisted it should do the trick!. I am at A loss and major frustrated being out of what I once considered to be one great  Idea. If anyone is aware of the miracle fix for this model please post as soon as possible, otherwise there's going to be more used lenovo parts available on ebay

I bought a lenovo Z580 from digitalriver.com 3 years ago.

I never had to access the BIOS until this point, because I want to sell this laptop. However there's a BIOS password set, and I never set it. Did the reseller set a BIOS password on my laptop, or was it Lenovo ?

If you say that it was me, no it wasn't, unless someone sneaked into my room and trolled me which is most likely not the case.

Thanks,
Peter

Answer:Z580 Ideapad restarts laptop after 20 seconds of being in windows - How can I stop it restarting?

Doing a factory restore through OKR will result to a state of the os where the present updates are not yet installed thus the restarts after the updates. One way to prevent windows from restarting due to an update is to not connect to the internet.

As the title says, just wondered if theres any lenovo software the works with the z580 ? lenovo companion on windows 8 offers some stuff but its listed as u series ect ? cheers for replys inadvance, mike

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

Click here for more information on the preloaded softwares on the Z580 and click here for more information on the Lenovo Companion.

Hey Lonovo community.I just purchased a Z580 and I my intent was to upgrade it. It came with the i7 3520M, 500GB hard drive, and 4GB of ram. I can upgrade the RAM and HDD just fine, but I want to upgrade the GPU as well. It came with just the Intel 4000HD graphics. The built-in GPU is alright, but I'd like to install a Nvidia GT640M. I assume that the motherboards are the same across all the Z580s, so am I correct in thinking that there should be a slot open for a secondary GPU in this thing? And if there is a slot, I am having trouble finding a GPU chip to buy. Any help is appreciated!

Answer:IdeaPad Z580 GPU Help

There are no slots for graphics card in Z580. Those Z580s with the GT 640M have GPU chip soldered to the motherboard. Those Z580s without the dedicated graphics chip does not have a slot where you can solder the GPU. Besides, there is no GT 640M that is packaged as an MXM card, and only high end gaming laptops (GTX 670M or higher) have MXM slots in order to upgrade their graphics card.

Question: Ideapad Z580

Hi, I have purchased an Ideapad Z580 and i need a new partition on it. Obviously Lenovo come shipped with 4 partitions already and I dont really want to interfere with them as it will stop the OKR from working. My next option is to install an additional HDD into the laptop. Before I take it to bits to have a look, does anyone know if there is a spare bay inside that I could fit a new HDD into? Thanks,Harrison

Answer:Ideapad Z580

There isnt a bay for a spare hdd. If you want you could use a hard disk caddy in place of cd rom.

Hi all,Today I tried to install some old logitech software for an external webcam. Alas, it is not compatible with windows 8. However, I could still use the webcam on skype, I just couldn't install the application that would let me take pictures with cool effects. I was going through the files on the disc and, not knowing such about computers, thought that it might be the software overall that was incompatible...but maybe there's just one file that I could download! Yeah. I'm stupid. I found something that said "64 bit" (I think that's all it said) and thought "Hey! this is a 64 bit! maybe this is what I need!" so I installed it. it looked like things were going fine. Then as I was finishing up, the background (the desktop) went blue. I still had skype open, though. My boyfriend said I probably just needed to restart it. so I did. now I can't get past the login screen. I log in and it's just a black screen.I called support, but I couldn't hear him very well. We tried multiple things. They didn't work. Any ideas? /:

hi sydthefairebrat,

Welcome to the Forums.

After you login, can you try to:
1. Press the Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys to open task manager. If the task manager opens up, click File > New Task (Run ..) > type explorer then press enter. If you get your desktop screen with all the icons, you can uninstall the camera software to undo the changes.

2. Interrupt the loading of Windows 8 to enterpush-button reset mode (this is like a recovery environment to restore the pc fromr previous working state). To do this, hold the power button while Windows 8 is loading up (you need to do this twice).  From here, you can:
2a. boot into Safe Mode and uninstall the software that caused the problem
2b. do a System Restore to undo the changes
2c  refresh your Windows 8 PC

3. Alternatively, If you have created a recovery drive using this method, you can boot from it and follow the steps 2a-2c.

Hope this helps

I got my laptop nearly a year ago, but haven't used it due to the fact my employer bought me a laptop instead to use for business as well as personal. But I left the company, had to give back the laptop unfortunately, and now that I've been on for about an hour I'm having some problems I just don't know how to fix. My wi-fi connection works on every device except for this laptop. It'll work for 10 minutes straight, then stop and when disconnect and then reconnect it'll work for 2-5 minutes then stop working again. So I'll click troubleshoot and it'll come up with "The default gateway is not available," every time without fail and it'll say its been fixed and it'll work but 5-30 minutes later it'll repeat the whole problem and I have to troubleshoot again so it'll work, which never lasts longer than 30 minutes! It's very frustrating, especially since I'm starting to take online classes and now my computer is just completely malfunctioning. Please does anyone know what I need to do to fix this?

hi LadyAmber13,

Welcome to the Forums.

Your issue might be similar to this thread.

Can you Try to:
1. Boot in Safe Mode with Networking and observe the wireless connection. If the Wi-Fi is stable, download and run the Mcafee Removal tool. When finished, reboot the computer and observe

2. As per jimjam1022's post, disabling Windows Firewal and performing a winsock reset helps solves the issue. To do a winsock reset, run a command prompt as admin and type the following (press enter after each line):

ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset

Dear Concern,

I bought my laptop Ideapad z580 (serial: QBxxxxxxx) a year ago for 752. and it had issue of randomly restarting. I installed new windows, tried many solutions but failed. Sent it for repair. Now this is really disappointing from customer point of view that his/her new laptop got repaired within few months. I said ok that is fine.

Within one month of repair, my laptop was not showing anything at all. There was some issue with motherboard (again) and display card. now this is frustrating part. I asked for refund that this is second time in a year it broke and asked for refund. The guy on the phone was really clever and said "sir please send your laptop and if it is a physical/hardware error we will get back to you about refund". No one came back and they sent repaired laptop back.

Now within first 2 weeks i found that i cannot use LAN card which i was able to in the past. I use it for video conferencing and video gaming as well. This constant back and forth caused delay in my web project and i lost 1k. whom should i blame? I called the support and asked for refund and the guy said "sir your warranty has just expired a month ago" is it my fault? this laptop keeps breaking. Again he is clever and said "sir i have told me supervisor about your case and he will call you to ask about replacement unit or possible refund".

It has been over a week and I am writing this here in frustration so that any Lenovo support can read and do some... Read more

Hello,I currently have a Lenovo Ideapad Z580, which has the following specs:Intel i3-2370MNvidia GT Geforce 630M4GB DDR3 RAM500GB ATA Hard Disk.I'm wondering what upgrades are possible...., as far as I know the GPU can't be upgraded since it's soldered to the motherboard. CPU-Z shows that my CPU socket is an 988B rPGA (Pin Grid Array?), which is probably removable? Also here (http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/WW/EMEA/merchandising/pdf/en/Z580_DS_EN.pdf), it says: Up to 2nd or 3rd gen Intel Core? i7 processor Which means I can upgrade to say one of the processors listed there (e.g. Intel i7-3612QM?). As for RAM, crucial says an additional 4GB upgrade is available. Am I missing anything?

A couple of weeks ago I was using my laptop and I noticed I couldn't click physically with the pad, I had to tap in order to click. Is there an easy fix for this? Please help me, thank you.

Answer:ideapad Z580 mouse pad

Hi JEBeltran,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that the Touchpad Sensitivity towards tapping is not working as expected. I suggest you to change the sensitivity setting for the touchpad and check if the issue persists, below are the steps to access the Touchpad settings:

Please click Start , enter mouse in the search field, and then select the Mouse control panel program from the search results.
Then in the Device Settings tab of the Mouse Properties panel, select the Synaptic TouchPad device and click theSettings button.
Now you can adjust the TouchPad settings for scrolling, buttons, touch sensitivity, edge sensitivity, and gesture actions to suit your personal preferences. Please let me know the findings.

Hope to hear back soon

Best Regards

Got a new Ideapad Z580 today and it doesn't charge at all. It turns on OK with the power supply attached and the batter claims to be at 87% (plugged in, not charging) but that never changes. Even after like 8 hours solid charging (some with the laptop off, some with it on) it instantly turns off as soon as you unplug the charger.  The orange battery light never stopped flashing orange. I don't believe this is anything to do with the energy management software as the same thing happens if it's just showing the BIOS screen or it's running any boot disk / CD based OS you care to mention. I went into the energy management software to see what that said and the battery health section said battery destroyed!

Can you try to:
1. Remove the AC adapter and battery and shutdown the machine
2. Hold the power button for 20secs
3. Reconnect the AC adapter and turn the machine ON
4. When you get into Windows, slide the battery back IN
5. Open Energy Management > Battery and see if you can set the settings to Maximum Battery Life.Spoiler (Highlight to read)
If you get the same error, I recommend you contact lenovo on how to go about replacing the battery.

I just bought a new Western Digital My Passport external hard drive. It works perfectly when plugged into the USB 2.0 slots, but has constant disconnecting problems when plugged into the USB 3.0 slots. It'll disconnect and then immediately reconnect. I tried my brother's harddrive (same model) and it has the same problem. Also, my Logitech MX 1000 works perfectly fine when the bluetooth receiver is plugged into the USB 2.0 slot, but becomes laggy and slow when plugged into the USB 3.0 slot. I updated all the firmware for the devices, drivers for the USB, drivers for the intel chip set, and turned off power saving options for the USB slots. I've searched the web for the harddrive issue and it looks like a lot of people are having them. But my mouse runing slowly worries me because its more than one device. is this a hardware problem? Any possible solutions?

Answer:Ideapad Z580 USB 3.0 Problems

Did you specificaly update the usb 3.0 drivers from the intel website, not just the chipset drivers as they are seperate. My TomTom will not work on my usb 3.0 but works fine on usb 2.0, but i think it`s a tomtom issue. I have a Verbatim 500gb usb 3.0 hdd and it works fine on my usb 3.0 I wonder if you problem is a WD driver problem. John.

Hello forums I was hoping I could get some help.

I am overall very happy with the computer except for one thing.

I use Truecrypt system encryption on my computer and not having the ability to utilize the AES-NI instruction set is becoming a bit of a nuisance. I know my CPU (Intel Core i5-3210M) supports AES-NI but it seems as if the microcode to enable support in the BIOS is disabled.
support for AES-NI is verified HERE on Intel's website.

Currently I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 with the BIOS set to legacy mode.
Would running the BIOS in legacy mode disable this feature?

I am a computer technician and am in school for network engineering, so big words are ok.

Any help would be appreciated.

There has to be someone who has either found a fix for this or wants is as a feature.Speaking of which, if this is a missing feature what would be the proper channels to go through to inform Lenovo that it should be implemented in the next BIOS update.

My basically brand-new Ideapad Z580 has decided to not charge when I plug it in. I registers that the AC Adapter is connected but will not charge. The only way i can get it to charge is by restarting the computer while it is already plugged in. If the AC Adapter gets disconnected at any time, charging does not resume when plugged back in.

Answer:Ideapad Z580 won't charge

This is because of a setting in lenovo energy management, which limits the battery charge to 60% and stops charging afte the level reaches 60%.To change this setting, open the lenovo energy management appliation by using the touch buttons or open it from the system tray icon, then in battery seting change from Battery protection mode or optimize for battery lifetime to optimize for battery runtime.A more easier way to change this is by shutting down the laptop, removing battery and unplugging the charger and then press the power button for 40 seconds(without any power source). Then Reboot the laptop and see if it works.Hope this Helps

Hello everybody. I've just bought ideapad Z580 and I'm running it with Win 7 x64-bit.Everything is OK until I noticed something is wrong with the picture. It's a bit grainy/My former notebook was 17'' and with higher resolution so I thought the problem was in me with a smaller screen/resolution.But then again the picture should be crystal clear. It's more visible on white screen and on small thumbnails. It's like very very tiny vertical lines between the pixels.Don't get me wrong - its barely visible but I know it and it bugs me.I probably could live with that but I don't feel very comfortable. The drivers are from the provided CD and the rosolution is 1366x768.I've read about similar problems with older Lenovo models but didn't figure out what to do.So is it just me or the problem is with the LED panel?

Answer:Ideapad z580 screen

Hello Labriss,

Welcome, your query is related to appearance of screen resolution and vertical lines, for that you need to re-install the graphics driver from the below mentioned web link.

http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/in/en/DriversDownLoads/APR_Driver_List.aspx?CategoryID=780080&OS=0

After that restart the system and check whether the is resolved.

Sameer

Dear forum,I recently bought a steinberg ur22 usb audio interface. Whenever it is connected to my aptop wj.dows will freeze sooner or later, sometimes after half an hour, sometimes after one or two hours. I cannot find anything in windows event viewer about it. I was wondering if anyone had similar issues? I have tge laptop for over a year and this was never a problem. Any ideas? Thanks!Z580Core i78gbwindows 7

Answer:ideapad z580 usb issue

Hello everyone, REply to myself. Could not get the problem fixed, returned the unit. Bought a miditech audiolink pro. But I get the same problems. What is wrong with lenovo usb? I have exhausted all options with the manufacturer. Disabled the onboard sound and it still happens. Lenovo technical support won't help because it's 3rd party hardware and it's their responsibility to make sure it's compatible. However the steinberg support said they never had this issue reported before. So it has to be something with the laptop. I cannot find anything related online happening to anyone else. So I hope someone can help me out. I bought this laptop a year ago for 800 euros hoping to use it for music production and it would be pretty bad if that money was wasted. So maybe someone from lenovo reads this and could contact me? Thanks. Regards,

Hello,     I bought a Ideapad Z580 here in the US, and would be gifting it to my brother who stays in the UK. Should I register the laptop with his details (UK address, etc)  (or he can register the laptop when he gets it) so that he can get the laptop serviced under the International Warranty Service if he has to? Or can he avail the IWS even if it registered under my name?   Thanks,  nagesh

Hi guys, Bit of a peculiar problem related to VPN access. Does anyone know of any software installed on fresh out of the box Z580 that might interfere with VPN connections? I'm connecting into a watchguard firewall using their VPN software and can get a link but it won't receive data (transmitting seems ok). I've tried disabling the Windows firewall but to no avail. I've never had issues installing on other Windows 7 machines so I'm deducing that there must be something Lenovo specific that regulates VPN traffic. Connection is via IPSec. Ta

Looking to choose between Z580 IdeaPad and T530 laptop. This will be my first laptop. Been a desktop power user most of my lifeThe notebook specifications for the Z580 are: I7 3520M, 2.9 GHz, 15?, Win 7 , 4G Ram, 500 HD.  A couple of quick questions on the Z580 notebook: What would the average battery life, I can expect(from this notebook) given that it has a 6 cell lithium? My web activities will be: Web surfing, Email, Reading social networks occasionally Watching movies. Can I buy/replace the 6 cell battery on the Z580 with a 9 cell lithium after I purchase the laptop? Will a 9 cell fit in this model? In your opinion is the wireless connection steady i.e. minimal dropping of connection? Thanks for your help.TC.

Answer:IdeaPad Z580 Notebook (Q).

If long battery life and wireless connectivity are most important for you, you should get the thinkpad since their batteries have more WHr than an ideapad for the same 6-cell, though the batteries are heavier. Thinkpads usually have better wifi out of the factory, but you can install a much better wifi if you opt for the ideapad which comes with an entry level wifi adapter. One more thing, the battery with the Z-580 only comes with 6-cell while the thinkpad has the option for 9-cell battery.

Should the solutions center work on my Z580? When I try to launch it I see the splash screen shown below. That is as far as I get. There appear to be various indications that the product should work (and various others suggesting that maybe it shouldn't) but I cannot find any user instructions for driving it, so I'm not sure whether it just cant work on my system or whether I have it set up incorrectly. Any advice welcomed.

I bought this laptop about 4 days ago and after about 2 days of use, one morning after leaving it running on the battery, I began to hear an annoying beeping sound and then a windows 8 turqiouse blue screen came up saying my system has encountered an error and needs to restart with this face ;( . Then it rebooted and the beeping continued. I bought this laptop for light gaming not much more. I only want it to play the Sims 3 without lag and crashing. It does this but recently (as of yesterday) the laptop begins crashing after about 30 mins of gameplay and rebooting. It begins to beep alot and then restarts with that windows has encountered an error screen. Then when it starts up I hear about 3 beeps and it loads up. Please can anyone help me I don't know what could be causing the errors and I really don't want to take this laptop back because I really really like it.

Answer:Z580 ideapad Crash and Beep

hi emile20,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're getting 3 short beeps on POST, this may indicate a RAM or a video card failure (see these POST error codes). To verify if there's an issue with the hardware, run:
1. Memtest86+ to verify the integrity of the memory modules
2. Stress test your GPU using HeavyLoad to verify its stability.

If the BSOD reoccurs or if you get any errors by doing the diagnostics above then it's most likely a hardware problem and you need to contact lenovo for service.

Hope this helps

My z580 laptop screen shows screen artifacts/flickering when I move the screen. When it is left untouched, the screen output is normal. With an external monitor while still using the laptop screen, the external monitor's picture is unaffected when I move the laptop screen.I get the same issue when I move the screen during boot up.I bought the laptop in September so its still under warranty, but I'd like to hear some ideas as to what the problem may be.

Answer:Ideapad z580 display issue

Ok so I want to take it in to get it fixed. I want to take it to one of the service providers/centers listed on the lenovo website. Since it is still under warranty do I need to contact Lenovo first? Sorry for the newbie question. Never had to take advantage of a warranty for my previous laptops. Their hardware failures occured during the end of their lifespan.

Hello, I have recently bought a brand new IdeaPad z580 for my sister and she called me today because she was having a problem with the battery. Before I gave her the laptop I put a clean win7 install on it and manually installed the lenovo drivers. Now what's happened is she charged her laptop overnight and when she started using it the next day win7 gave her the "consider replacing the battery" notice with the battery icon and the red cross in it. So this means the battery is not charging and the laptop can't function on the battery. Now I've searched the forums and came across a few "battery not charging" topics and I've not found a solution. I've tried removing the battery and pressing the start button for 40 secs (what does that even do on a dead laptop?), changing the settings in energy management and re-installing energy management. Nothing works... I think it may have something to do with the BIOS, which may not properly be reading the "design capacity" and/or "last full charge" information. Could my assumption be correct? And if so/if not, what should I do? I mean the laptop was bought 3 weeks ago, it has to be some sort of software problem right? Please help! Thanks in advance!

Answer:Ideapad z580 battery issue

I have two Z580 i have only had them a few day, so apart from calibrating the battery, as the wear level on both was 7% after calibration it went to 0% , i have had no problems. If you have access to a voltage tester, the service manual describes how to check the battery voltage it should be above 9volts, check page 22. edit : Hwmonitor software below will show you the battery voltage. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_z380_z480_z485_z580_z585_hmm_1st_edition_feb... John.

Hi, I recently purchased a z580 ideapad and I'm quite happy so far but I do have a few questions: 1. I noticed discussion of a Boot Optimizer for Windows 7, but is there a Windows 8 version?2. I've noticed the lack of links for accessories and laptop skins with partner Fathead on the Lenovo shop.  Is the z580 already discontinued and outdated so quickly?3. What the heck is the purpose of "screen freeze" feature enabled by the Windows 8 intelligent 2.0 touchpad software? It's not screen lock, so what's the purpose and also are the other gestures I should be able to enable besides just the "screen freeze"? Thanks in advance!

Answer:what is best windows for lenovo ideapad z580 ?

Hi jimrako,

This is really a tricky question because it depends on your hardware.

The best way I can think of answering this is by providing you the requirements for each then you can check against your requirements:

Windows 10:

RAM:
1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space:
16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

Graphics card:
DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Display:
800x600
Cons: a bit of a learning curve as it changes a lot

Windows 8

Processor: 1 GHz or faster processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: Without Touch it is not intuitive

Windows 7

Processor: 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB of RAM (32-bit)/2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit)/20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: None really, it is awesome

Windows XP

Processor: 233 MHz CPU
Memory(RAM): 64 MB of RAM (may limit performance and some features)
Hard Disk: 1.5 GB of available hard disk space
Graphics: Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
Cons: No longer supported by Microsoft

Again, this is my opinion, without a touch sc... Read more

I am writing this on behalf of my father, who has recently bought an IdeaPad Z580. He was getting increasingly frustrated at Windows 8, so I suggested for him to downgrade it to Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. After finally overcoming the hurdle of the GPT harddrive, I am now stumped by the fact that now the wireless adaptor wont work. I am able to use the Ethernet cable adaptor, and it is currently plugged into the router and working fine with a wired connection, but let's be honest, what';s the point in having a laptop, if you can't surf on the move? I've tried redownloading drivers and such for the wireless adaptor with no success. Hope someone has a suggestion. Thanks in advance! edit: typo

Is it possible to have change the screen resolution of an Ideapad Z580 to 1920 by 1080? Using Control Panel the maximum screen resolution is 1366 by 768, which is useless for programming and application development. These are the specs of my Ideapad Z580:Intel Core i5 2.5 MHz , 8GB RAMNVidia GT640M 2 MB RAM, Intel HD 4000 GraphicsWindows 8 German 64 bit Thanks in advance.

Answer:Ideapad Z580 screen resolution

If you bought a Z580 with an 1366 by 768 display that is the maximum it will go, that is called the panels native resolution, and games and software looks best at this resolution, you can set a lower resolution but the image will look very slightly blured , some people get mixed up with the hdmi port maximum resolution which is up to 1920 x 1080 on an external TV or Monitor. John.

Hi, everyone. I have a question about my lenovo laptop warranty. There is a small line of dead pixels on my Z580 laptop I purchased about 3 months ago. If I were to guess, there are about 4-5 dead (as in pure black, I used the color tests to check) pixels on the left hand side of the screen. Does this qualify for a replacement? And how would I go about with this replacement?I will post a picture of it as soon as I can. Thanks for your help.

Answer:Dead Pixels on Ideapad Z580

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,

As per Lenovo Dead Pixel Policy your system must meet the following conditions in order for the screen to be considered faulty and under warranty.

3 or more defective / dead / bad pixel - must be visible
System must still be in warranty.

Since your system is meeting the above criteria please all   contact your local Lenovo support to request for service

Do give this a try and let us know

Hope This Helps
Cheers!!!

At my wits end.  Purchased a Lenovo z580 ideapad 5 months ago.  I cannot maintain wireless connection; it drops a few times a day.   It?s gotten worse since I updated to 8.1??..but I had the same problem with Windows 8.  With my wife?s Sony and my old HP, this NEVER happens, so it?s not a router problem.  After googling up the ying-yang, I incorporated all the below suggestions with NO resolvement: 1 .Device Manager (DM):  Power Management tab-->Unchecked box, ?Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power?2. DM: Uninstalled and reinstalled wireless driver (Intel Centrino Wireless- N2200)2. DM:  Network Adapters-->Advanced tab-->Made the value ?Auto?4. DM: Disabled Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 USB Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  I?m wondering if this is a hardware issue (wireless card), and I should just send back to Lenovo because it?s still under warranty.

While attempting to change the Secure Boot function in BIOS I somehow corrupted it. As a result I can no longer access BIOS using the Novo key, pressing F2, or using a variety of other techniques. A local computer shop was able to bring up BIOS by removing the CMOS battery, but that's no way to routinely enter BIOS. I've was told by the computer shop that BIOS needs re-flashed. Currently there is no BIOS file available for the Ideapad Z580 on Lenovo's Web site. Is it possible for someone in service send these files to me. Thanks,JBrush

Have you checked to make sure that the air vents are not plugged up with dust?    Computers are excellent dust magnets, so cleaning the vents is needed to make sure air can get inside to cool the CPU etc. A vacuum cleaner works well to get the stuff out of the vents you can see, and I would start by doing that, but your laptop also has a built in dust removal application that will speed up and reverse the fans to try to clean the dust out from the inside (See page 19-20 of the manual below on how to use the Thermal Management button).   Warning,I would still have vacuum hose ready when you press the Thermal Management button as it may make a cloud if it has not been run for some time. https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_z380z480z485z580z585_ug_2nd_edition_jun_201... Good Luck

Hello all, I bought a new Ideapad z580 laptop a few weeks ago: Intel Core i7 3612QM 2.1GHz (3.1GHz with Intel TurboBoost)8GB RAM1Tb HDD2GB Nvidia GT630 GraphicsWindows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.(I'm using the 15.6inch display and a seperate Samsung monitor in a dual screen setup)I've been having some issues with the display. On starting the computer, when the starting Windows logo comes up, several horizontal lines appear across the screen and the windows logo moves around, up and down rather than staying in a fixed place like normal laptops. Upon logging in, the screen looks ok but the bottom half of the screen keeps blacking out for half a second and then returning to normal (it seems to do this more when I first turn on the laptop and then disappears after a bit). Further to this issue, thin green horizontal lines keep appearing on the screen randomly and then disappearing after a split second (I could be just web browsing or I could be playing a game). I have had this issue from day one. I have attempted to fix it by reinstalling the Intel Graphics and NVidia drivers that were stored on the D: drive partition (the ones that came with the machine). I have also tried installing the ones located on the support website but they don't seem to resolve the issue either after restarting the PC. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello,I have a Ideapad Z580 which came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Basic. When the Windows 8 Pro upgrade was available, I applied the same using the windows upgrade utility. this was over an year ago. However, during this time since I use the laptop for my work, a lot of BI apps have been installed and uninstalled from it resulting in an overall system slow down.I therefore want to restore the laptop to the factory condition. I dont need any of the other pre-installed applications, just the OS restored either Windows 8 or even the Default windows 7 home basic would be fine. The problem is I dont have any of the recovery disks for ither of the versions. Can anyone suggest what can be done here? Thanks,Ashish K

Answer:IdeaPad z580 recovery/restore

Hi Ashish,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I understand your concern, but as you have upgraded the OS (Operating System) without creating the recovery discs for the pre-installed Windows 7. Hence, the OKR (One Key Recovery) button can be used if there are no changes made in the drives in the HDD (Hard Disk Drive). If there is any changes in the Recovery Partition will affect the OKR, the only available option is to contact our Technical Support for Assistance to get guided to exact department of sales for more information regarding the concern.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

I've been having problems with the touchpad for a while now, I'm not quite sure if they're are software or hardware related.  I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64bitSynaptic Touchpad Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - IdeaPad Z380, Z480, Z580 Version 16.2.10.5 The Synaptic Pointing device will sometimes just stop working altogether. For the last 30 minutes it was displaying on the taskbar that there was pressure being applied to the center and I had no control over the mouse at all. I rebooted several times and it was still displaying that there was pressure being applied to the touchpad. After leaving it for a little while it seems to have fixed it self and worked now, but this has happened on multiple occasions since my purchase. One small thing I noticed was that lots of the time when the touchpad isn't responsive I'm still able to use the left and right click. I'm also able to move my finger around where the left and right click buttons are and it picks up my movement, however, if I try that on the main section of the trackpad it does not respond.  Any help is appreciated.

Hey guysYesterday I started noticing that my Z580's screen would go completely black for less than a second then come back. This kept happening all day, ~once or twice every hour. After a while the screen started to sometimes go dark (but not black, like before) while also vibrating and emitting a strange sound, but it switched back to normal after a couple of seconds. After 3 or 4 of these, it has stuck being dark and flickering. The weird sound disappears if I turn the brightness to the lowest setting. Any idea what is causing this?

I got a brand new lenovo ideapad z580 about 6 days ago but haven't been able to use it much because of the unbearly slow wireless internet speed! It takes 2 minutes simply to load google and 3 or 4 to load more complicated things like youtube videos or facebook.  It works perfectly fine when I hook it up to the modem physically though. And the wireless internet connection is "excellent" and stable so I'm not sure why it is so slow. Also, I removed the extra programs I didn't want.

Hello all, In October I bought a new Ideapad Z580. Now I recognized that the right side from my bezel (the edge around the laptop) is lose. The left side is fine, but when I press on the right side, you hear a clicking noise. Is there someone here who has the same problem or same laptop without this problem? Maybe this is a normal case but I don't think it's normal. Hopefully you guys can help me . Greetings,

Answer:Ideapad Z580 lose bezel

No problem with the edge of the notebook on my Z580, i did have a problem with the top left of the keyboard the area where the esc key is being loose, also the esc key made a intermittent clicking sound, i returned that Z580. John.

It's really an annoying thing to find that the section where we insert the battery had a huge crack on body of laptop from bottom.I Contacted lenovo as usual they started blaming me for damge. But I ain't stupid I challenged them to prove I have misandled the laptop . If I drop it, someone sit on laptop or if I twist it then if I get damage I agree it's out of warranty policy but it's been just 40 days since I purchased laptop, cant ask for replacement from seller..       Nobody sees the laptop so carefully to find if there is anything broken anywhere so I missed that crack on body. So finally after an hour of argument that agent decided to take my laptop in for repairs so he sent me a letter with some DPD courier service number on it... What a surprice that number doesn't work... Called on that number 10 times but no one responds.. Called lenovo back & told no one is responding they gave usual answer agents of those courier company must be busy.. come on busy for whole day??? Finally he gave another number... another useless number ...... Now how the hell am I suppose to send this broken laptop to you.?? Courier service you are using is is taking me no where what should I do???

Hi there,Apologies if this is a repeated thread/post/question, but I've recently starting experiencing some problems with the Wireless on my IdeaPad z580 (to my knowledge, I have not updated any software to have reasonably caused this problem)Every so often now (seemingly 2-3 times a day), the wireless card seems to cut out completely, only allowing limited connection. If I try to turn switch it into aeroplane mode and back again, it completely disables the wifi and it grays out the option to switch it back on again. If I then go through networking on the control panel to re-enable the hardware it completely crashes the laptop and has to be hard-rebooted. Likewise if I attempt to use Microsofts pathetic troubleshooting to resolve the problems the laptop crashes and has to be restarted.I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit alongside Linux Mint 15, which I mainly use for University work. The laptop uses a Broadcom BCM4313 Wireless Card. My suspicion is that this is a hardware issue, and having only had the laptop ~6 months I should be able to get it repaired under warranty from Lenovo (I think). From some internet searches I have seen others have problems where the wireless card gets shut down by Energy Management, however it seems like they simply cannot connect and switching the card off and on again fixes the issue. Is this a known problem with Lenovo? Is there anything that can be done to stop it happening? Am I covered by a warranty? It may be worth noting that if my wireless goe... Read more

I think the question may have been answered on the forums but I am very nervous about what to do. When my laptop goes to restart it goes to the black screen and does absolutely nothing. It can take me a coujple of hours trying to get it to fire up so to speak and then it seems to be by luck only and I need the laptop for myu work so I am relucttant to turn the laptop off. I upgraded my laptop to windows 8.1 this year and after a windows update last month was installed the problem occurred...  I even have set the laptop back to factory settings and in due course lost everything... I have also uninstalled windows 8.1 although it is asking me to re instal it but I dont want to do that . I have read somehting about uninstalling hte AMD display thing and then doing something with the bios but I am really not sure what that all means as I am a bot thick to be honest when it comes to things like this.. If someone could give me any help or advice I would be etrnally grateful. Thank you for looking

Answer:Ideapad Z580 Black Screen

I have this same issue with an N581 IdeaPad. Everything was working fine until Microsoft's latest update on August 30th. The Lenovo boot screen appears and then the Windows login page shows for a few seconds (system is set to auto-login). After the login screen, there is just black screen with a mouse cursor. I can Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the task manager, launch a command prompt, etc. but there are no other graphics, no desktop, etc. Based on other similar reports in the forums for other models, I have (unsuccessfully) tried the following things: 1. Boot into Safe Mode and delete (uninstall) the video driver2. Update the BIOS3. Update the video driver with Intel's latest drivers (HD 4000 Graphics)4. Roll-back to a restore point before the last update None of these things give any change in behaviour and I'm out of ideas. Since OP sounds a little more timid on this, I'm willing to try anything and give him detailed instructions for whatever works for me. Thanks

Hi, I just bought a Z580 with Windows 8 pre-installed. First, I shrunk the C: partition and created another partition for Windows 7, though I couldn't boot the installer, I got this error:"Secure Boot - Image failed to verify with *ACCESS DENIED*. Press any key to continue" After some googling and etc. I thought this isn't a problem with my windows 7 installation disk and there is an issue with uefi firmware. Then I found this:http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTIyOTgSo I am assuming Z580 is in the same boat as this one. And probably many other models... I also tried Ubuntu 12.10, had the same annoying error. Is this going to be fixed by any chance? If not, are there any workarounds for using operating systems alongside Windows 8 on these Lenovo laptops?

I have notice an issue where I try to get into the BIOS and connot seem to get to it.  I have not reformatted the drive or changed any componets. F2 / F12 / ESC / DELETE / Function R / Function B / Function F / Function ESC / Win B ...  do not work  on startup.   Booting with the NEVO button (small button to the right of the power button)  brings up the menu for the BIOS but it just starts the OS, never brings up the BIOS.  The menu also bring up the option to boot to another device and it does not function either. When  I shift "Restart" I do get into the UEFI Settings and select it, but still nothing works. Is there any good suggestions on getting this started again?  I looked for "new" BIOS and yet cannot find any. I have been on Hold with Lenovo support for over 40 minutes now ... is this typical? .

Answer:Ideapad Z580 BIOS broken

Well I tried pulling the Hard Drive out so it could not fire up the OS.  The "Lenovo" start screen did not even come up and no options on getting into the BIOS.  I even had a blank hard drive with no OS and same results, one would expect something. Anyone have any ideas?  Seems dumb that the BIOS can be broken, or you cannot get access to them.

My touchpad on my laptop has recently stopped working. I am unable to move the cursor but can usually click. The pressure graph and mood pad usually recognize that there is pressure on the pad but the cursor still doesn't move. I have tried uninstalling the synaptic driver and reinstalling it but it still won't work. I can sometimes get the cursor to move by using the very bottom of the touchpad (over the buttons) but it's not really helpful. Is there anything else I should try?  Thanks

Answer:Ideapad Z580 touchpad not working

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Uninstalling the driver and then installing a fresh copy is usually the first fix.  If that didn't work then try reseting the BIOS just to rule out a possible hardware conflict.  To do the reset, do this......1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If the reset didn't resolve the problem then your problem is most likely hardware related.  I would suggest you contact Lenovo Support for additional service especially if your warranty is still active.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

You can upgrade the processor. But finding the compatible one would be the difficulty. You would want to refer to the hardware maintainence guide of z580. Hi, my Z580 came with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics card, which isn't a terrible card but it only has 64mb of dedicated video memory, and unfortunately--I'm going to be frank--the bios screen kind of sucks. There aren't any advanced graphics options at all (most have an option to adjust dedicated video memory). Why isn't there an update out there? Is there any way to flash the bios to something more open, or am I stuck with having to look into buying a computer with a better graphics card and bios? Thanks, //Caleb

Answer:Ideapad Z580 bios options

Unless you want to play the latest games at high resolution and settings the HD4000 is fine, I have played Boarderlands 2 at low to medium settings, the 64mb memory is the lowest the HD4000 can use it will dynamically use your notebooks memory and mine can use up to 1600mb as i have 8gb of notebook memory. You cannot change any graphic setting in the bios, and if you use an non-lenovo graphic driver say from the Intel website it will mess your notebooks brightness settings up.John

I checked with 2 softwares "Everest etc" And i have clean cooler and knowing other things, so don't tell me like clean cooler or don't use on lap etc. It is not because of this. I used extra usb cooler too ,but still same...After 20-30 mins playing , i am having low fps problem etc. Really i have such a regret about Lenovo. No problem while surfing on internet or using softwares or watching movies. And I have latest drivers. Do i must buy a new laptop ? Or any solution ?

Answer:IDEAPAD z580 Heating Problem.

First of all Z580 is not a very good choice for gaming. Regarding your temperatures I think the problem is with bad thermal paste. I can't say for sure, but it has been the problem in many cases.

The sounds I get when using the built-in microphone on my IdeaPad Z580 seem fuzzy and have a noticeable echo. (The microphone is a small aperture about an inch below the left Ctrl key.) I know how to adjust the volume, but is there any way to adjust the other microphone characteristics? Failing that, are there things I can do to improve the recorded sound? What is the best place to position my mouth when using the mike?

Answer:Microphone characteristics on IdeaPad Z580

You wont be able the change the volume of other microscipe if i am sure it is which one. The best positiob could taking your mouth as near possible to the mic.

Recently I've upgraded to Windows 8.1 pro. I'm using a Lenovo Ideapad Z580, which was peloaded with Windows 7. After the upgrade the internal as well as the analog connected R3.5 microphoen isn't recording any sound. What I can hear is a hollow sound. I've already tried the Microsoft Troubleshooting and also tried upgrading the drivers twice. But the problem still persists. So I think it's a OS related issue. Although wanted to know if any other Lenovo user is also facing the same problem. Now I'm thinking to downgrade to Windows 7 again. If anyone have the fix it'll be a big help. Note: Using Realtek HD audio driver for Windows 8.1, dwoloaded from Lenovo website.

Hai

I am using a Ideapad Z580 with Windows 8.1 64 bit.
All was working fine.
But I formatted the C drive and reinstalled my Windows 8.1 OS.
Then I installed all my drivers.
After a reboot the screen started to jump(flickering). The top part of the screen(small portion) is appearing and disappearing in the bottom area.
I tried to change the refresh rate. But it is locked in 60,and no other options are available.

What could be the possible problem and is there any solution????

Hi. I am having issues with Bluetooth on my IdeaPad Z580.Prior to last Wednesday, when system updates were done prior to shutting down, Bluetooth had worked perfectly fine, but since these 'updates' I can only send documents, etc. from my Z580 to my BlackBerry 9790, but I can't send from the BlackBerry to the notebook?Devices have been paired, sharing is On and Bluetooth is On in Wireless Devices. Please advise... Many thanks in advance. Best regardsDuane

Answer:Bluetooth issues with IdeaPad Z580

hi Duanet,

Can you create a system restore point and try the following:
1. Uninstall the Bluetooth Software from the Control Panel > Programs and reboot
2. Verify under Device Manager that the bluetooth device is using the generic driver then pair both devices and observe if you can now send files from PC-to-Phone and vice versa.

3. If same problem, reinstall the original bluetooth driver from D:\Drivers\Bluetooth or from the lenovo website

I got taken in by all of the messages from Microsoft insisting that my computer was fully compatible and that I should upgrade to Windows 10. It never dawned on me that I should have checked the Lenovo website first to be sure. After the upgrade I noticed two things: (1) the system seemed to be working pretty well, and (2) I couldn't find Dolby Home Theater v4 (one of my absolute favorite programs). When I finally looked at the Lenovo website I found the following page with the heading, "Dolby Home Theater does not work after Windows 10 upgrade" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht104006).When I checked the "Windows 10 upgrade supported list" (https://support.lenovo.com/documents/ht103535), as the page instructs, I saw that Ideapad Z580 wasn't on it. The page goes on to say that if your machine isn't on the list, "drivers have not been updated for that machine, and Lenovo does not recommended an upgrade to Windows 10." The page continues with possible solutions, but does it make sense to even try them? Then I found another page on the Lenovo site entitled, "Windows 10 Upgrade Guide - IdeaPad and Lenovo Notebook" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103611). The news here wasn't any better. It says, "The following listed computer models include hardware components not fully compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, upgrading these models to Windows 10 is not recommended." Unfortunately, Z580 is on this list.So there are, according to Lenovo, software and hardwar... Read more

HiI've brought a IdeaPad Z580 and after somedays I found out that the upper left corner of the keyboard is a little non-firm and loose so that when I press for example the ESC key the keeper layer of that corner goes up and down a little and I'm worried about that ; is it possible that the layer is not firmed well? And another thing is that when I close the lid and move my fingers smoothly on its opaque layer I feel some kind of vibration and I think it's maby because of HDD hed rotation or maby it's because of last problem I've said the non-firm of the keyboard? Please if there is a problem help me out and guide me to solve it .Thanks a lot.

Answer:Smooth Vibration From IdeaPad Z580

HDD`s do cause a vibration, it`s normal, i have two Z580 and one of my keyboard has a bit of flex at the same place as your and clicks when i press the esc key, my other Z580 is fine, solid keyboard. I found a guide to remove the keyboard, only take 4 screws, 1 for the back cover and 3 for the keyboard, so i followed the guide and refitted the keyboard and mine is now a bit better, it still has so flex, just no so much. click fru videos and then keyboard in the link below. http://lenovo.f.relayware.com/content/CourseWarePublic/12313/player.html John.

3 out of 4 of my usb ports have quit working.  What can I do?

Mod's Edit: Edited model number.

Answer:Ideapad z580; usb ports not working

Hi kitcharles ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

When did the issue started ?
Thinking that maybe some setting / drivers changes caused it and you can just do system restore to jump back to a previous restore date as initial step.

Would there be any yellow or black downarrow mark on Device Manager .
Try to show hidden devices in device manager .
Under Universal Serial Bus controllers for USB Mass Storage Devices  , right clcik and uninstall then restart the pc.

You do have 2 USB (ver3.0) port on the left , and 2 USB (ver2.0) on the right based on the user manual (page5).
Which is not working ? Rare that all 3 would go out at the same time but if it does reflect the hardware systemboard controllers for the issue.

If same issue , attempt a power drain and set BIOS on Defaults .
Shutdown and unplug the ac charger, remove the battery and press power down for 15 seconds to drain.
(if you have a USB keyboard and mouse to test, attach it )

Put back the battery and ac charger and turn on using the Novo key (item 6 page2)  instead.
Novo menu apears and choose BIOS set up , f9 to default and f10 save and exit
(would the usb keyboard work tapping on caps/ num locks , usb mouse lit if functional )

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I have just purchased the Lenovo Z580 two days ago. Its the i3 model with Windows 8 and I have since noticed problems with the internal wireless adaptor. When I'm connected to my router wirelessly my signal is terrible I get five bars initially then two and then one and it remains on one bar thereafter or disconects entirely. My other computers are fine with the range from the router even when in the same room as the Lenovo laptop and the Lenovo is the only one that struggles to maintain a coonection, I have also noticed that the bandwidth recieved by the wireless adapter is also poor in that I am mostly getting 1Mbps. I have tried installing another driver but it didn't help, I have also opened the bottom panal and checked the cables to the antanna and still no improvement. I'm not sure why it has such poor range, the device manager shows its a broadcom card, I've never had a braodcom before I usually have atheros because all of my previous laptops have been Toshiba. I'd appreciate some advice from the community here, are there any known problems with the wireless adaptors for this hardware? Thanks to all who take the time to help.

Answer:IdeaPad z580 Freezing Issue

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you were facing,

Since you are not get the same behavior in  safe-boot Windows ,  it's likely a corrupt driver or driver conflict. You might also want to try booting a Linux Live cd. if you get normal behavior, that would likely rule out a true hardware fault and put it back on Windows or drivers .
Also try disabling the trackpad and check
Also try uninstalling the touchpad driver. Then after rebooting go to http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers/ and downloaded " Windows XP/Vista and Win7 64-bit Edition v15.2.20"
Do give this a try and let us know the results

Hope This Helps
Cheers!!!
