Lenovo y5070 nontouch left hinge build issue

Question: Lenovo y5070 nontouch left hinge build issue

Lenovo India is suggesting me to replace the defective left hinge along with the entire body of my laptop amounting to Rs 6000 approx. Since adp is not covered here in India for me coz I got mine from the states. My question here is how has lenovo classified this case under accidental damage even after so many users have complained about this issue. It is clearly a build defect and should be covered under base warranty.please provide a viable reason for me to pay such a hefty amount after spending a fortune on my machine and which clearly shows the shortcomings in the building of this laptop.I got this laptop in December 2015Kindly provide the solution at the earliestRegards,Abhishek

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone, I just noticed something weird about my y5070.When I use it normally (no gaming or rendering, just broswing) or i let it on idle, it is actually cool but there is an area that is hot to touch.I'm talking about the area between the touchpad and the keyboard.Yes, that exact line between them seems to be ''overheating''.This doesn't bother me because I'm not really touching that area but I want to know if its normal or its something I need to worry about (the laptop is only a few days old). Thank you for your time!

Answer:Lenovo y5070 heating issue

When I opened my laptop's undercarriage I would have sworn that all of the temperature stuff would be at the Middle top half of the keayboard about the functions/1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0/QWERTYUIOP keyboard line .  Based on some models the HDD/SSD is placed on the right side about below the num pad keys. Im pretty sure the battery is placed to the bottom half of the laptop presumably the location you are talking about. But just dont place your bets on my post. I'm certain i may be wrong and will wait for someone to correct me.

Hi,

I have purchased a Lenovo Y560 laptop on 03-10-2010 and  I got this left hinge issue. I was about to close the laptop when I suddenly heard a click sound and after a thorough inspection I found that the left hinge is broken without any reason. I went through a lot of discussions over the internet and I found out that this has been a common problem in this product.

1)They were too lethargic about giving a proper response as how can the case id be cancelled without even the user's consent.
2) When I tried reaching the customer care again , they  gave a new case id for the same issue and the case id : 4270154295 and ONLY then they looked into the issue.

Answer:Y 560 Left Hinge Issue

I just wanted to report that I'm having issues with my left hinge as well. It's very similar though not identical in nature. Anyway' I had noticed that my left hinge was looser than the right hinge a long time ago, very soon after the purchase. and after I got my machine back from the service center after they replaced my motherboard. I never though much of it, but I decided to investigate this morning. As I was opening and closing the laptop, I noticed that the back of the computer next to where the battery is bulges out a bit when i open the computer, and bends in when I close it. It only happens on the left side. Then, I turn my computer upside down to see if there are any loose screws, and I see a weird piece of plastic in the screw hole where the bulge occurs, and I pull it out. I turns out it's a section of twisty tie, the kind that you use to close your sandwich bread bags. After I pulled that out, the screw straight up just fell out of the hole. There was nothing holding that screw in place except for that little section of twisty tie! Anyway, even with the screw out, the bulge hasn't gotten any worse, and the screen hasn't gotten any looser, which tells me that nothing has been attached to the other end of the screw for a long time now. I'm going to call the service center to see if they can replace the body of the machine, or possibly send me a replacement. I'll update you with any news. Update: So I got in contact with Lenovo and am getting ready to ship my ma... Read more

Some of them are using screen secure holders as a part of the mounting bracket. We are trying to decide is these computers getting abused or is this a factory issue. Thanks

If open/close screen a little faster - the cracking dissapear. If do it slowely you can hear hinge cracking even on the video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erCRoJiLjWwWhen I bought laptop I had upgraded memory and hard drive, so I don't know if I still have a warrenty. But this problem defenetly isn't due to me.

Bought my wife a new HP Envy, inherited her old Envy 17 inch and realized that when you open the screen the bottom panel separates some in the left corner by left hinge. I guess this is a ongoing problem for these models. Wondering if HP is doing anything about this issue through means of out of warranty assistance? For me the biggest concern is that this will get worse and affect the fan or worse the hinge will break completely.

I've seen tons of post regarding the left hinge issue on the envy 17.  I also have this problem, have replaced two fans due to the plastic part the hings screws into break ing and getting into the fan.   Also I'm beyond the waranty period.  Havs HP created a repair kit or replacement case with better design to fix my laptop issue?   Laptop is only 2 years old.  I hope HP will stand behind their product and help customers with this issue

Hi, I purchased my Envy M6 about three years ago. It is obviously out of warranty. Today, the left hinge mechanism failed.I am unable to close the lid without causing further damage, as case is splitting aroud the hinge. After briefly looking for solutions to this problem I was astounded by the sheer number of reports of the exact same malfunction occuring on this device. With countless reports of the problem, I find it incomprehensable that there has been no recall to resolve the malfunctioning parts.  Rather than a recall, the information I can find through these forums suggests that HP is charging customers for the privilage of repairing their malfunctioning product.I'm hoping that HP is able to address this issue!

I've noticed a few posts on this issue (lenovo Y50-70 touch screen hinge breaking).  I bought my laptop via Amazon in July 2015 so it should still be under warranty (even though the tech support website says it is not....it also thinks that the warranty started in January 2015).  I, however, have had zero success with contacting technical support for help (I talked to a representative on the phone; she couldn't help me but said I would be called withing 48 hours.  It has now been 168 hours and I've received no phone call; I also submitted a request via the web 72 hours ago and have received nothing.  And I can't get anywhere with the online "contact us" since it won't recognize the serial number of my machine).  Anyone have a phone number or other suggestions?  At this point, I'm very frustratred with (a) the product and (b) the technical support from Lenovo.

The left hinge of my laptop has suddenly come off due to which the whole screen and back cover keep opening up. This is ridicculous since i have used the laptop very carefully. This looks like a design flaw and HP must repair the laptop or replace it for me.

As this is an additional hinge problem among my household of hp laptops, it becomes most difficult to defend hp's reputation among my circle of relatives and friends. This time it is my spouses laptop.  I was close by when I heard a loud screach/crack/pop as the lid was raised.  Then the fan apparently engaged a piece of loose plastic and began to tap away struggling to recover.  I grabbed it and tilted enough to seemingly shift it so the particle disengaged but surely this is only temporary.   I've little appreciation for the panic it instilled for an issue that should not exist.  Now wondering if I should reach for greater peace of mind and replace all with new and different.   Any suggestions?

Issue with left hinge on this $1000 laptop where the chassis is separating from the frame.  Pieces of plastic rattling around inside the case and jamming the cooling fan.  Out of warranty.  Opened up the back thinking I could tighten some screws, and found that the cheap plastic case has broken off altogether.  What an extremely poor design.  I would like to see a detailed parts list and discounted pricing for repair parts to address this obvious quality issue.  As several other have mentioned, my future business of my family with HP is at stake.

I have HP Envy 17 laptop and noticed that the left hinge got loose and something is rattling inside a screw or a piece of plastic. I worry that is can get stuck in the fan and cause hardware issues. I've read a number of posts on this forum, indicating that this is a rather common issue with these laptops, which is likely due to the flaw in the design. I wonder if HP can do something to help. Thanks.

I've had this product for a little under 2 years. Today the fourth major problem with it occurred. The left hinge supporting the screen has come loose and is pulling away the base of the laptop. I can hear what sounds like cracking as I open the lid and a screw inside - moving around. I have treated this PC like a new-born baby so it is most defiantly a manufacturing fault. I?ve checked other threads and this problem has been apparent to countless other people with the same model PC. At almost 1000 I expect far higher quality from such a product. Had a known about these issue beforehand I would not bought it and I feel now I have been mis-sold the product as it is clear that it has a clear manufacturing fault with it. The fact that these products were not recalled for the faults with them is ridiculous. I would like to know what can be done about this in order to rectify the problem. Here is a link to the exact product details and an image below of the problem. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04356668 & http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/17-quot-HP-Envy-Coming-apart-at... I do hope that something will be done and I won't have to contact trading standards.

I have two issues. The first is that my battery stopped charging right after by warranty exprired causing me to be unable to use my laptop unless it is plugged in. The second is that the left hinge is broken, causing my bottom case to come apart. This has also caused an issue with my fan (from a broken piece interfearing?) which causes my laptop to overheat.  This is unacceptable. This laptop was expensive and I depend on it daily to run my business.

Left hinge broke on my Acer laptop here on March 13, 2017, and when I tried to close my laptop not realizing the plastic had split it cracked my touch screen.  I called Acer to see if this issue had been addressed as a "known issue" that they would repair but it isn't.  I also asked if the newer laptops have addressed this problem and I could purchase one without worrying about it, but they would not comment on that and just said anything outside of 3 years isn't covered. A quick Google search has turned up this issue as fairly common and occuring anywhere from 6 months and beyond of ownership.  Can anyone tell me if the newer laptops they produce have this issue?  I can't see myself justifying buying a similar product with the exact same issue that Acer refuses to address when you have other options for which the hardware seems much more stable and the cost comparable.  Does anyone have any insight to this beyond what I've experienced?

Answer:Acer laptop 3.5 years old broken left hinge issue

>>>A quick Google search has turned up this issue as fairly common and occuring anywhere from 6 months and beyond of ownership. >>> Not common. But does happen to most brands in my experience. Especially when one is in the habit of regularly and often opening and closing the lid on stepping away from the machine. The other vulnerability from this habit are the conductor trace lines on the video ribbon cable which threads tightly thru the hinge area. I discovered back in August that when lifting the monitor up, the bottom chasis was separating from the top. Upon further investigating, I found out that a small silver barrel used as leverage to prop the monitor open had completely SHATTERED. Furthermore, this barrel also served as a "nut" for the bottom screw to attach the bottom chasis to the top. The material has the consistency of nickel and it astonishes me that Lenovo would use such soft metals at a point where there would be the most structural stress. So I've been researching this issue and it seems that it's ONLY the left hinge that has everyone's laptop in a bind. The problem with mine is that it's is a few months removed from warranty. Prior to purchasing this laptop, I had done a load of research on it and I do not recall this issue coming up. But now that it has happened, it seems to have happened abruptly to a lot of customers. I've noticed that the posts have been popping up consistently since June, July, August, Sept, and now. What I want to know is if anyone has gotten this common issue fixed? And if so, was it under/out of warranty? And if it was out of warranty, did it cost anything? I certainly don't want to pay for a fix since I truly believe it is a design flaw. I also don't believe it's customer induced since it's NECESSARY TO OPEN THE MONITOR TO USE THE KEYBOARD. The laptop has been subjected to NORMAL USE and it has never been dropped on the ground nor seen agressive movements. An... Read more

Hi there, Kamy -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.
100% disk usage is not a problem.
If an applications wants to load from disk, the disk usage will go to 100% while it loads. This simply means the drive is being read at the maximum speed possible, which is what you would want. When you see disk usage between 0% and 100%, it means that disk reads are only small or that the speed is limited by something else (e.g. reading from one disk and writing to a slower disk).
When disk usage is above 100%, it means multiple processes are trying to access the disk and requests are being queued. If it stays above 100% for extended periods of time, this is where you have a problem.

I currently have the Lenovo y50-70 touch and I am having major issues with how the hinge system was designed as it was just fixed 2 months ago and is now having the same issue (see case here). I am wondering if the y70-70 has the same design flaw or if it was fixed. Does anybody know? I love this laptop except for that fact that I have to keep sending it in to be fixed because of the same issue.

Answer:Does the lenovo y70-70 have the hinge issue?

I know it has been few months since the OP posted a question, but I am also wondering if Y70 (Touch) in my case has the hinge problem. I've had mine for almost a year now; mfg date is end of November 2014; and there is slight popping coming from left hinge, but I think it did that practically from day one, since first thing I did was swapping of HDD with SSD and thought it's just something to do with unoptimally rescrewing of bottom. Otherwise so far so good. There are no signs of anything flexing or coming appart. Slight popping (metal back slightly touching plastic) is annoying, but it think it cannot cause problems, not even in long run. There are also no visible differences between spacing on right and left side. I use laptop daily and in average I open/close lid 5-10 times. So I really hope Y70 is less prone to hinge problem than Y50. Also, I haven't found a single topic on Y70-70 hinge breaking. It does pop a bit, but I haven't even considered it as potencial problem untill I saw the other thread in regards to Y50 hinge coming appart... Anyone else's experience?

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

I have to report also 3 issues with my Lenovo Ideapad U410:1. WI-FI issues since I bought the notebook, end of February 2013.    - I tried updating the wireless drivers, but did not help.2. Left hinge detached from the lid 3 months ago.3. The LCD screen remains black after starting the laptop, it takes several reboots to eventually display the image. The left hinge detached from the lid apparently because of poor design, the plastic keeping the screws in place broked in small pieces... There are still pieces of plastic around the screws... No way to place the hinge back, unless passing the screws through the LCD lid... Being a desktop support technician, A+ certified and Dell technician certified, I supported IBM laptops, then HP laptops, and now Dell laptops. Never had this kind of issue with other laptops. I have an 16 inch HP laptop since 2008, and still no issues, also WI-FI works wonderful. I bought the U410 to have a smaller notebook, as the HP is much biger, thicker and much havier, but unfortunately after only 2.5 years of use, I cannot use the Lenovo Ideapad U410 anymore. I would invite Lenovo to replace the lid, fix the display issue, and also fix the WI-FI issue. Thank you for reading this.

Hey, everyone I have a Lenovo y560 that I purchased in 2010 and I've had to get Lenovo to repair the same hinge issue on three separate occasions,  also two of the three times that a technichan replaced the hinge they ended up damaging my computer.  The hinge issue that I had was the left hinge always seems to become loose, because of a design flaw. The exact problem that I've had is explained more in depth here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/543887-y560-hinge-issue-explained.html Anyway, my hinge is acting up again and I feel that it is unfair to me to have to pay to get this hinge fixed again because Lenovo can not provide me with a permanent fix for my problem. My case number is : WN373530 Are my options just to stop dealing with Lenovo and go with another computer manufacterer that can provide quality products and provide permenant solutions? I wanted to know if anyone could provide me with some insight or suggestions as to what I should do next.   Thanks,  -Vlad

Answer:Lenovo Y560 Hinge Issue

Also, I wanted to know if anyone could provide me with contact information to Lenovo's complaint department as I have been fed up with thier poor customer service, poor quality products and horrible repairs. I will not recommend Lenovo to anyone and make sure to spread the word about their poor products and customer service. -Vlad

Okay, the refreshed Y50 is out with 960m and an IPS display. But the older model had some other very disturbing design flaws as the hinge and the fan. Now, can anyone confirm whether those issues have been addressed in the new model or are they still remin and make this otherwise grand laptop a bad choice?

Dear Lenovo-team, I have an issue with my Yoga 720-13IKB (Type 81C3) Laptop.First, is it normal that the right hinge is only on the right connected to the frame? And second, the little black plastic square left to the left hinge and right to the right hing is moveable almost loose. Is that correct? Best,SF

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

Everytime i open my laptop it made a cracking noise on the right side. The plastic piece in the middle broke off and i cant put it back on. I did some googling and found that this is a freaking common problem with Lenovo. I will be talking to my lawyer asap to file a law suit because this is a manufacturer defect. Not only did Lenovo service not help, I had to escale the case 3 times because the first 2 times were escalated ''wrong'' by their employees. In the mean time i need my laptop for College and it doesnt feel freakin good to open up a cracking laptop everytime im in class with a missing middle cover. I checked every video but none are clear and need help to fix this issue.

The lightly used screen hinge on my Lenovo Y50 just broke, and like many other people, I contacted Lenovo about it. I was told it was "not really a known issue" and that they wouldn't do anything because it's no longer under warranty. I informed the person that a quick search found hundreds of reports of the exact same problem, including on the Lenovo forum, but they refused to acknowledge anything. How disappointing. I will try again to get a more honest acknowledgement of the issue. If that fails, it will certainly be the last computer I buy from Lenovo. I guess that's the only recourse we have. Just buy a different product next time and hope enough people do the same so that the company eventually changes its practices.

The right side hinge of my z580 is giving issues. The laptop lid does not close properly. The lenovo support denied warranty saying that my ADP is over. However I do not understand how is this related to ADP. Seeing the huge number of complaints it is definitely a manufacturing defect. My bottom case was replaced once already during ADP.Please suggest how to take this further. I have been recommending lenovo to everyone, but I dont think I will do that

Hi, I have bought a U41 series. It gave me the problem as U410 well having the hinge giving me cracking sign if the lid was closed fully and to be open up again. The problem came in JUST AFTER the warranty and the operator also told me that is will not be cover under warranty. I mean, it is a manufacturing defect, where I have never dropped my laptop before, why would it not be cover under warranty? And should all Lenovo user expect ALL Lenovo products to only function as much time as the warranty (1 year)? I am very disappointed with Lenovo products, the way you resolve my inquiry and not taking any responsibility towards the manufacturing defects. For your reference of U410 defects please refer to this link below:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-U-and-S-Series-Notebooks/Re-Lenovo-Ideapad-U410-and-U410-Touch-b... Also, the issue was not resolved as no satisfactory answer has been given to the thread shown.

Hi Bangzy ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Best way to check on how data partition is managed on your harddrive is using disk management tools under Computer management. You can type diskmgmt.msc when you open the run box (Win key + r) as described on this guide.

Standard Lenovo partition would appear similar to this , as a recovery partition would be hidden within the harddrive to store the factory reset image as emergency backup restore .

You may update us with a snapshot to compare if needed.

Question: Lenovo Y5070

Hi,As you know Lenovo Y5070 get with Windows 8.1 SL preinstall so the question now what will be happen if i download windows 8.1 SL [OEM version] from Microsoft and install it. it will be activated or not. I mean are this version will get the serial number from Bois automatically or not.FYI, i used this app "RwPortableX64V1.6.8.1" to get my serial number

Answer:Lenovo Y5070

Dear wmoghes,

Welcome in lenovo community,

Instead of installing windows 8.1, you can run windows update.

To run windows update,

From control panel >> select (system and security)
Select (windows update)
Click (check for updates)
Download and install the new updates
Then please repeat this step 3 times

And you will automatically have windows 8.1.

- If you made a fresh installation from windows 8.1 it will not be activated.

Hi, im having problem with my y5070 hdd, its just when i turn on my laptop beep noise coming from hdd,and when i go to bios its says hdd not detected, can some one help me, should i have to replace my hdd?!

Answer:LENOVO Y5070 HDD PROBLEM

I would suggest removing the access panel to make sure the HDD is inserted fully into its bay. If it is properly connected and you are still getting the message then it may have problems and need to be replaced. You will need your set of Recovery Disks or a retail copy of your operating system disk to install onto the new hard disk. If you do not have either, you may be able to obtain a set of recovery disks by contacting Lenovo Support via phone.Good luck.CB

My lenovo y5070 cant turn on. The problem happened when i pluged in the charger and turn on my laptop and i left the room. When I came back my laptop was shut down and i cant turn it on again. The only thing that happened when i press the power button is the orange light with the battery sign is light up. I want to know if the problem is with my laptop or just the charger is broken.

Answer:Lenovo y5070 cant turn on

When you press the power button and the orange light shows on the battery indicator, it measn that its completely trained. Its probably your charger isnt working, but it can also be a battery issue. I suggest you take it to an official lenovo center

I had an HDD failure few days back. So I went to the service center to get the HDD replaced. They replaced it with the same model of the HDD. Its a WD 8GB+1TB SSHD.Unfortunately it seems that even this one is going to fail. I got an error from Windows saying please backup your data the HDD might fail.Thank you Lenovo for giving me a defective product and thank you also for not fixing it by replacing it with a proper SSHD.Its just frustrating when even after spending a lot of money on a Laptop, such a thing happens. Now I don't know what to do. Maybe I will have to buy a new HDD myself. I have given up.

I suggest you ran another diagnostics on the hardware specific to the storage devices (Lenovo Storage Test).
Take note of the error code and give Lenovo tech support a call .

Hi, my laptop is one year old and a month ago it started acting weirdly. It's not starting if i have shut it down recently  (less than 6 hours maybe) and i keep on hard shutting it down and trying to switch it on again with no luck, i can hear the fans working and the power button is lit in blue as usual but other than that is just a black screen no matter how long I wait, and if I waited for 10 mins the laptop gets carzily hot. I had a way in dealing with this by trying after an hour or so after trying to switch on and hard switch of if not booting for 3 or 4 times and it would boot normally eventually. Now the gap is increasing and it's becoming worse. I need urgent help please and sorry for the long post I'm trying to be as accurate as possible.

Hi, I want to downgrade to windows 7 because windows 10 has been too unstable for me when using various old audio hardware and software that doesn't have windows 10 drivers (and probably never will). I want to go back to windows 7 because it was alot more stable for me. I understand because the partition type is different for windows 10 I need to clear all partitions and start from scratch. So I have a few questions.. -Has anyone done this recently do he windows 7 drivers for the y5070 work ok? I heard about some problems with the intel video driver. -Will I be able to restore it with the windows 10 and lenovo drivers easily if I change my mind? There seems to be alot of small partitions that come with this setup for windows, recovery etc, would these be able to be restored automatically? -My laptop came with windows 10 preinstalled, if I want to go back how will I activate it again, I cant see a serial key anywhere. Thanks for any advice you an give!

Hi, I have the 4710HQ GT860 4k version of the Y5070 and it has this unexpected shutdown problem. It just turns off without any warning. 2-3 seconds before the shutdown the keyboard stops responding, while mouse still works. Sometimes a loud pop sound comes out of the bottom speaker. It is not caused by overheating as this laptop is never actually heating. I have reason to believe this started after the bios upgrade (downloaded from the official site), I'd like to try a bios rollback but I can't seem to find the older bios image on the official page.   http://s11.postimg.org/nu3q8vj7m/image.jpgI have attached a screenshot from the logs to show how often this occurs. This is becoming a problem, please come up with a fix, returning for servicing is highly undesirable in my condition because I need this laptop for work every day. I have had very pleasant experiences with Lenovo laptops in the past and it would be a shame if this one would ruin everything

After few months of suffering since last April, I desided to get rid of my laptop and move to anbother stable machine with no multi BSODs. I struggled hard, trying to solve all problems and updated all drivers including migration of Windows 10 but I am still getting the random BSOD with a different fault in each time. and this mostly occurs while windows is updating any patch. This never happened with other brands that I used earlier last year. Under such bad experience which I never faced with any other laptop brand, I will trade this laptop and will never look into Lenovo products anymore. Regards

Hi, I was just wondering if it is normal for a laptop to heat up on idle like downloading a large file. The bottom part actually heats up but not to an extent that it makes me paranoid since it just feels "warm".I was downloading a game in steam, Is it safe to leave it on for the night?  Btw, I live in the Philippines so the ambiant temps. are not really good but the laptop stays at a desk and also raisedfor more air intake. I leave it on Green Mode when I idle and download something and the close lid is set to "Do Nothing" since I need it awake to continue downloading. I am not quite sure where you are checking the details but this could be due to the Intelswitchable graphics.

You can also download GPU-z program to see detailed specs of your graphics card.

Hi there,
I bought Lenovo Y5070 laptop recently with these specs: Intel Corei7 4720, 16 gig Ram, Geforce GTX 960m 4 Gig DDR5, and the second graphic card of intel 4600.
I installed windows 10 on this laptop with the latest drivers but I have a big issue with multitasking, e.g. I can not run photoshop easily when another application is open, it takes time and a lag and small hanging (sometimes) to open the second application (for example media player).
is there anyone here with the same problem?

Avoid playing games when the lid is closed. I think this is because of the vent design that is at the hinge. It is just my guess. There could be another reason also.

I am a new owner of a Y5070, which has been sent for diagnostics under Lenovo's warranty within 48 hours of receipt because of a subtle problem with the graphics set up. The first sign that something is wrong is that some Windows 8.1 windows (for example Device Manager) appear at much lower resolution than VGA - nevermind the claimed 4k UHD resolution. The screen simply looks like it is running very basic graphics. The second sign is that the Nvidia Control Panel only offer 3d options. Meanwhile, if you go to the Nvidia website and look at the user manual (http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/344.75/344.75-nvidia-control-panel-quick-start-guide.pdf) you will notice that additional settings are available. The third sign that something is not right is that running MS Flight Simulator X under the alternate Intel 4600 HD chipset (with Nvidia driver disabled) is smoother than with the Nvidia driver enabled. The final sign that something is not right relates to the following test, which I would kindly ask you to perform if you have the Y5070 and provide feedback: - go to device manager and open "display"- disable all other display drivers except for the Nvidia card- right-click on desktop and run Nvidia Control Panel Do you get the "You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU" message? My purpose is to pre-empt the laptop returning from repair and the service center trying to convice me that this is... Answer:Y5070 graphics issue - how prevalent?

I have had my Y5070 for about a week. I noticed the same problem when it comes out of hybernate or restart. The only way to make sure it uses the right adapter is to install the nvidia drivers, do not restart, then run your application. It seems that some kind of service is only active the instant you install the nvidia drivers and then deactivates whenever the laptop is switched off or hybernates. Would be nice if there were a fix somewhere. very frustrating. Note: I run my laptop through HDMI on a 24 inch monitor, single display. Laptop stays closed.

Answer:Issue with left click on trackpoint, touchpad and mouse - Lenovo T61

Hello,

A few things to try:

?  Create a new user account, login using that and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, then it is due to software running under your user account.
?  Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, it was due to an application which runs on startup.
?  Boot the computer from a Linux Live CD/USB and see if the problem still occurs.  If it does, then the problem is not due to the operating system and you are dealing with a hardware issue.

In the case of the latter, the usual fix would be to replace the keyboard.

So you need windows to be running first.

Answer:unable to change screen resolution in Lenovo Y5070

Grayed out items means it not a option and supported. As you stated it happened after upgrading to Windows 10. If you have Lenovo's latest drivers etc properly install and rebooted etc then it currently no supported. Call Tech support as this a user forum. Dear All,I have new laptop (lenovo y5070 intel core i7-4710hq) with 8GB Ram, 4GB for each slot.I want to upgrade to 32GB, is it possible?and to upgrade, should I use 2 ram slot or one possible?

Answer:lenovo y5070 intel core i7-4710HQ Ram Upgrade

The most ram you can use is 16gb 1600mhz. It's limited by the CPU, and also by the DIMM slots. Its impossible to find 32gb in 16x2 SODIMM. But 16gb (8x2) is plenty .P.S. Use 2 slots if possible, dual band is faster than single.

Hello, I have the newer version of the y5070 with a UHD IPS panel.  Recently I got my y5070 back from the service center. It had heating problems, sound problems and a key fell off.The guys at the service replaced the motherboard, the cooling system, the keyboard, and for some reason the whole front part of the laptop (that rubbery part around the keyboard and the plastic part where the power button is located). Basically all the problems I've had were fixed. When I got home, I discovered a new strange problem regarding the screen. It seems like when there are some specific colors on the screen (light to dark grey), very small white horizontal lines appear on them. I've noticed this issue while moving a program User interface across the screen (Actually Lenovo Solution Centre - preety hilarious). At first I thought there is a problem with the software itself, but that isn't the answer. If I save a printscreen in paint and move it around, the same effect happens. When I tilt the laptop's screen (or as crazy as it sounds, when I move my head up and down while looking at the screen) there is the same effect on light grey colors, but is very very subtle (still annoying). What I also noticed is that in the lower left corner of the screen, the display seems to be pressed by the plastic frame. The image there is brighter and gets darker when I pull the frame a bit with my nail.  I would be very respectful if someone could give me an id... Question: Left Hinge

I have had the HP Envy for some time and expected it to be a premium product by HP leading me to believe that it would be a good long term laptop to use. Unfortanately, this is not the case, after spending a huge sum of money on a laptop I would not expect the laptop to have such a stupid problem, where the laptop seperates from it's casing. After doing some research I have found that this is a regular fault and HP aren't doing much about it. I am giving HP a last chance to contact me as to what they can do for me before taking action myself.

HP fixed my left hinge and finally it was distorted to where I jad to be careful opening it.  THEY JUST FIXED THIS!!  I opened the case and saw the bolt receptacles in the case are not holding the hinge in.  This is a horrible design!!!!!!!!!!!!  I put an oversize sheetmetal screw through the bottom bolt hole and the sent it through the offending hinge.  Now it looks crappy just to do the dame tying.  Very dissappointed-doubt I will buy HP again,

Question: Left hinge

Hi This is about the back cover below the left hinge which pops out around 4 to 5 mm when laptop is opened or closed. After checking, it seems that the back cover area that supports the left hinge is very weak and damages easily. I always thought that every laptop maker has tests which certifies how well a laptop deals with continuous opening and closing. Obviously corners have been cut and quality control have not been vigilant. With the number of complaints this has, HP should do an unconditional recall to redeem their name. I was considering getting a Spectre for my wife but now I have doubts about thier quality and customer focus.

Hello Support, Last evening I bought this high-end model of Y5070 in Chiang Mai as I spend a month here now:(I7 4270HQ/8GB RAM/Geforce 960M 4GB) I am Microsoft Windows 10 Insider Edition User and while it works fine for most I've this strange issue. I've installed today fresh Windows 10 build 10130 (latest build), some drivers were missing so I used Lenovo drivers CD to install the win 8.1 drivers (Microsoft suggest to use Win 8.1 drivers on Win 10). All works good besides, it has random freeze, everything freeze, but youtube/music keep singing and it will stay like this until i click POWER button on the laptop then after a minute it goes sleep and when it wakes up all fine again. I did installed 100% fresh win 10 setup.  If this issue is due to Win 10 I can go and install win 7 or 8.1. But it sounds not very normal to me since i dont see other win 10 users having this issue. Please assist me asap as long as I am here in Thailand/Chiang Mai and still can go to store for replacement if needed. Thank you so muchRoman

Question: Broken left hinge

I have had my Envy for about 2 years. The left hinge has broken and when I went to have it repaired, I was told it would cost over $300! This same thing happened to the HP laptop I had previously that this new one replaced! The repair place told me is was the exact same thing that happened to my old laptop and that it was a common issue! Why hasn't there been a recall? Obviously this is happening constantly! Does anyone know how to fix the issue?Thank you

Hi there,I recently ordered an X1 2017 but sent it back for several reasons. One minor issue with it was that the left hinge was slightly crooked. Not by a lot, some might not even notice, but for me not really acceptable for a 2k5? device. Unfortunately it was the first thing I noticed during unboxing. With the lid closed you see that it's not parallel to the rest of the device. Meanwhile I have ordered one again and unfortunately it's the same in terms of crooked hinge. So I'm suspecting a general "problem". Obviously the support team never ever heard of such a thing.Just wondering - how is your's? I don't think I'll do anything about it since I don't think the service team will do a better job than the factory and generally things don't tend to get better by taking them apart. However - just curious if I'm the only one. Cheers, reach

I got my SL400 2743CTO back in december of 08 and noticed that the left hinge to the screen is cracked but the display still works. Will lenovo repair this or am i out of my warranty? When i open the lid the whole hinge almost moves with the display. The right hinge is holding it on i guess.

Question: Left Hinge problem

We have purchase our HP Envy TS 15 from Costco online about 3 years ago. The warranty has expired. About couple of months ago I saw the left hinge seperating from the casing. It makes a clicking sound when the screen is closed/opened. I am not sure if may be getting worse. But today, not sure if this is related but I realized the battery was drained and although the computer was plugged, it was not charging.  After reading numerous other posts on this hinge issue, I wanted to see if HP can provide a path forward to resolve the issue and repair my computer. Thanks for your time, Alp

The left hinge will not let me open the laptop.  It is stuck or twisted.  A small piece of plastic has fallen out of the hinge area.  I have seen several postings pertaining to the same problem with the left hinge and there was a recall on this hinge.   My laptop is out of warranty.  Please advise.  Can I get my laptop repaired with the recall?

Hello I have a V series laptop, V5-571-53334G50Makk to be specific and since recently the left hinge was loose and whenever I open the laptop, it was wide open(kept on increasing as I tilt the screen) now the gap has widened. I was wondering what I do to fix this issue? Is it fixable at home with some time and repairing or do I need to take it to a repair center?
