I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello - please bear in mind that I am not technically proficient, but in fairness i don't think one should be.  As the Lenovo doesn't come with a back-up or recovery disc, I obviously need to make up my own.  I thought that the OneKey recovery system would lead me through it (it says it's "easy-to-use"), but right away I'm confused:  what's the difference between "System Backup" and "System Recovery"?  I keep reading the blurb and I've read the "Help" file, but I'm not getting any closer to understanding  The System Backup seems to require 98.9 GB space, which obviously the hidden drive doesn't have.  I'd need a stack of DVD-Rs for this (I was kind of hoping two or three) or a whole new removable drive  -- does this seem right?  But, again, what am I looking for, a System Backup or a System Recovery?  On my old Acer, it used to lead you through this step by step and it was incredibly simple.  Now, it seems the only simple thing is me.  Any patient help would be much appreciated.  Thanking in advance, Adam K.

Answer:completely lost - Creating a recovery disc for IdeaPad Z580 (and OneKey Recovery)

They are similar. One difference is that if the disk is defective you cant use OKR anymore. Thus you can't do any restoration yourself. You will have to send in your unit to Lenovo to have the disk replaced and your system restored to factory default. You don't need a stack of DVD-Rs to save your backup ... System backup files can be saved in an external Hdd drive plus the creation of a Repair DVD disk for startup and restoration purposes.

Hello, I needed to clean up laptop. I wanted to reinstall OS, but Windows 7 is just OEM version with no CD. So I used Onekey recovery and loaded my 3 years old backup, which I made when I turned on laptop for the first time. And now my Lenovo (D partition says there is no free memory. It shows 0/ 24,4 GB. But there is only 11 GB used. Really dont know what is wrong here and what should I do.

Computer : Lenovo IdeaPad P580 with Windows 7

Hi ! My internal HDD died, but I managed to backup everything with both the Windows 7 utility (both files and system image), and OneKey Recovery. The HDD was changed and set back to factory default. I can easily restore the files, but the system image from Windows 7 utility is not detected. I want to try to restore my computer with OneKey Recovery.

1. When I press the OKR button in Windows, the OneKey Recovery program is displayed, as it should.
2. I ask for a recovery, it says the system will boot in recovery mode.
3. I get the BIOS splash screen, then Windows 7 splash screen, and then Windows simply boots normally.
4. The OKR button won't activate the recovery mode ; it simply acts like the power button.

My problem is much similar to the one explained in the topic "One-Key Recovery will not boot into recovery system (y450)", however, the Lenovo's hidden partition is already hidden (its type is already set to 12). This video also provides the very same solution, but it doesn't seem to apply to my case.

Let me explain :

I have 4 partitions :
1. One hidden partition of 200 MB*. I've read it might be the WinRE environnement, I should not touch it. Originally, it had no name, but I gave it the name "Environnement WinRE". Its partition type ID is 07 (NTFS Windows).
2. My main partition C:, type 07. Size : 653,44 GB
3. Lenovo's D: partition, type 07. Size : 25,47 GB
4. Lenovo's hidden diagnost... Read more

Answer:Can't boot OneKey's recovery mode, OneKey button does not work

good question.  I can't offer any suggestions here but would also like to know if those other partitions are really needed if you have a complete cloned hdd with those other partitions as a backup.  I don't like the idea there is at least 40GB of unnecessary partitions and data reserved that I cannot use.

So I'm trying to setup a backup before I leave on my study abroad, I have a 3tb Seagate  expansion drive and for whatever reason Onekey Recovery refuses to allow me to "Start" the back up to it. I've tried several different drive formats, cleaned it and converted it MBR with NTFS and exfat, back to GPT with NTFS and exfat, partitioned out 300gb to use as a backup. I have literally done just about everything you can do with a hard drive to try and get this to work. I'm running Onekey Recovery 8.0 at the moment and it shows no updates available so... any ideas?

I am having issues with onekey recovery because I am trying to factory reset my laptop. I have used it before without issues, but I believe it may have happened after I tried out Windows 10 but then reverted back to Windows 7. If I try to use OneKey recovery through the program, when I select the option to reformat, it just restarts my computer normally. If I try to use the onekey recovery key on the keyboard, it just turns on my computer normally. Any solutions to this issue?

Where Can I download or order a Boot Disc for my Z580?  It came with Windows 7, and PC World were offering a free upgrade to Windows 8.  I am currently unable to create a Factory Default Recovery Disc.  There is an error with the Onekey Recovery software in burning onto the DVD / Disc.  I have tried two different DVDs (4.7GB), and have tried a CD (740MB).  And I receive the same error about one fifth of the way through. The reason I am having to do a factory reset, is because my Wirless Network driver is not working, and the laptop no longer accepts external wireless USB dongles.  I can't get internet even with a wired connection.  It isn't to do with whether the wireless is switched on or not.  I've tried this. What is Lenovos policy about providing customers with the means to restore their Laptops?  In the past computer manufacturers / suppliers provided all the software and bootdiscs. Thanks

Answer:Request for Boot Disc Z580 Windows 7. Unable to create bootdisc using OneKey Recovery 7.0

hi Timneedshelp,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Have you tried performing Recovery using the Recovery Button?

Turn off the system then press the small button like the one on the photo
And it should boot your system to a Recovery Like environment giving your options to restore factory back up,

If this one failed or not working, I suggest Calling Lenovo Technical Support in your location for a CD option,

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi avraham123 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

This is the main guideline  (click highlighted link for full article) regarding corrupted partition.

If the Hidden Partition is destroyed:
If the hidden partition is destroyed or replaced hard drive, you won't be able to restore the system through Lenovo OneKey Recovery software. You need to utilize the Recovery DVD, read more from below related articles:How to recover the system to Factory settings with Recovery DiscsHow can I get a system recovery CD, DVD or USB from Lenovo
Note:
If you accidentally uninstall OneKey Recovery, you may go to D drive. Find the folder named as Drivers. Open it to find out OneKey_Recovery folder --> find setup.exe. Click on it and follow the on-screen instructions. OneKey Recovery will be reinstalled.
If you are unable to reinstall OneKey Recovery, you are recommended to contact local service provider or read How can I get a system recovery CD, DVD or USB from Lenovo for more information to get recovery media

As discussed here are suggested steps that you can also try if repair failed .
1) Make sure that recovery partition is there or not. As I said, go to Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Disk Management and check.
2) Second, When the laptop is shutdown, try pressing the NOVO button and see if the laptop starts in the recovery mode.

I recently updated my windows 7 to windows 8. But I hated it so I downgraded back to windows 7. When I get on my computer, I install onekey recovery through a USB. It opens correctly and the computer restarts, but than it just goes back to the log on screen. It doesn't even go into system recovery mode. I think the problem is either that the windows 8 drivers are still on it or I need to install the drivers from here, the lenovo website. If you want to know what it looks like, it looks like windows basic and I can't change it to the regular windows 7, its just stuck on basic. Help?

Answer:Onekey Recovery issue on lenovo ideapad z575

hi Gregrs,

Once you upgraded your Windows 7 system to Windows 8, some lenovo pre-installed softwares will not be able to work, including the One Key Recovery - see this Windows 8 Upgrade Guide fore more info. If you have created a Windows 7 recovery disc using this guide, it'll be best if you use that disc to restore Windows 7 OS + the drivers that came with the PC.

I bought my wife an ideapad maybe a year or so ago (the exact model isn't coming to me at the moment) and she recently had it die while she was using it due to low battery. When it started up, it was having issues starting up and went stright to onekey recovery. No problem, we've used this feature before... but after the recovery, it gives me the option to restart and it loads automatically to the onekey recovery again. It has done this time and time again. I am able to boot in to bios by pressing Fn+F2 when at the lenovo splash screen but nothing in there seems to give me any help or remedy the situation. The Lenovo splash screen seems to hang for a very long time and also displays "Checking Media" in the upper left corner, reminiscent of a DOS screen. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated... Also, I have ensured that the onekey button is not stuck. It seems to click in and out of place pretty obviously. I'm at a loss!

Hi ! I just got a Lenovo IdeaPad P580. I did a first backup with OneKey Recorery successfully. Then, some days later, I wanted to do it again, but I added a lot of files, so it didn't work because the backup wouldn't have enough space. I didn't realized that the D: disk only purpose was to content the factory settings (or near them), but nothing more. I put the drivers and the applications (but not the backup) from the D: disk on a DVD, and I wiped out everything. I wanted to free some space...Now that I realized the D: drisk was only there to store factory settings, I'd like to get the original backup back to have at least a D: partitition useful for something in case of emergencies... Otherwise, it's useless and I could merge it with C:, and do backups with an exeternal disk, but I'd like to avoid doing that...

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad P580 and deleted OneKey Recovery files

Ok i'm not sure i understand everything you wrote for example:''I did a first backup with OneKey Recorery successfully'' What exactly did you do and how  did you do that? And:  ''and I wiped out everything. I wanted to free some space.''' Did you wipe just the D: or ...? To get your system back to factory settings (?nitial state, just as it was the day you bought it) please double cklick the One Key Recovery(OKR) ?con on the desktop click on 'System Recovery' A notice will pop up asking you 'Do you want to reboot your computer into the System Recovery Environment' Click Yes and then just follow instructions. When it's done evrything that should be there, will be(hopefully anyway).. Do let us know what happens.

I got my ideapad in 2010 and it has worked fine up until very recently. It started acting buggy and having boot problems so I did a factory reset using the one key button 3 days ago. I moved some pictures and videos over from an external and installed an antivirus and now it will not boot at all. When starting normally, it will say that startup repair is needed and before the repair screen comes up it will blue screen and shut down. The same goes for getting into safe mode. Immediately after loading files it will blue screen and shut down.I wasn't concerned until I tried to reset to factory settings. It will not load the recovery menu at all but stays on the cute leaf background (longest I've waited for a response is 15 minutes). Is there anything else I can do aside from finding a bootable windows disc and calling it a day?

Hello, I have an Ideapad z585 that's a few years old. It came pre-installed with windows 8 but I upgraded to 8.1. A few weeks ago it refused to boot up windows, giving me a screen saying "Preparing Automatic Repair" that would loop until reaching a black screen and never continuing. I took the drive out and connected it to my PC to find that (C: ) is unrecognizeable, but it recognizes the (D: ) partition that was set up on the drive when I bought the laptop. So I used some software to recover all of the files on the now not accesable (C: ) partition, put the drive back in the laptop, and tried to do a system restore with Onekey. Since I have evrything backed up I don't mind doing a factory reset. I pressed the novo button and selected "System Recovery", a loading screen popped up, and then nothing happened. It just fades to a blank screen and stays there. After doing some research, it's likely that some of the boot files and onekey files became corrupted. Is there any way to get around this and do a system restore? I was reading about obtaining a recovery disc on the Lenovo site, but it seems kind of difficult to get a hold of one in the United States. Any help is appreciated, thanks

Answer:Ideapad Z585 will not boot or load onekey recovery

Hi mfell15 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try to power drain the computer by detaching the ac charger and removing the battery , pressing the power button for 12 seconds .

Attach the ac charger only and turn on using Novo button (item 6 page 2) to power on the machine . As novo menu appears choose BIOS set up and set defaults on the exit tab then save and exit.

Turn off the machine again and unplug the charger pressing again the power button for 12 seconds to drain. Place back the ac charger and turn on with the Novo button to choose System Recovery.  Use One Key Recovery from initial back up to launch the factory OEM reset . You may try this sequence 3-4 times if needed.

The OKR imager is hidden on the harddrive partition and as long as it is not corrupted or harddrive is not physically affected , we expect it to run automatically restoring it back the way it was from out of the box.

To test integrity of the harddrive , if you manage to slave the laptop's harddrive on another computer ,try running a harddrive test similar to this and this. If it passes then we are expecting that it may be an issue with either OKR imager or software issue so you can decide to just proceed with clean installation of Windows 8/8.1 directly then install remaining drivers from the support site.

Not a happy bunny. Originally I used the Lenovo inspired system backup so in the event of a hdd fail I had a thumb drive with the recovery media.  WRONG Of course I now know I was an idiot - the Lenovo only works if you have the recovery partition on the hdd, which of course you won't have with a new hdd.  You must take a full bootable disk image to recover the complete system - be warned, the hdd must be the same size or larger than the original. So at great expense (mine) I had to order the recovery disks from Lenovo @ ?38 -  They come without instructions, fine I thought set the BIOS to boot from the DVD - WRONG. Looked up the online recovery disk procedure - WRONG There is no functionality on the Z580 for the F1 key (try the F2 Lenovo!!)  That in itself is not good enough - there is nothing in the instructions to tell you to change from IUEFI mode to |egacy - without which the system won't boot from the recovery disks. Moral of this story - don't take the Lenovo documentation at face value - I like the laptops, but their documentation and recovery methodolgy stinks. Hope this helps those with a Z580 recovery situation.

Hello everyone, I've just bought used Lenovo IP Z580 white (without OS), installed Windows 7 64bit and every 2-3 days I have problem with it. I've installed all drivers, the pc works fine, but as I said, I got a problem with restarting. On the screen shows Lenovo logo, then it disappears and it restarts in the cycle. I have tryied various BIOS settings, when the SATA controller mode is on "AHCI", windows will not boot and it crashes with BSoD and there's no chance to start the system. when it's on the second option "Compatible", it works often but with this setting it will doing the problem with restarting.  I know, this post/problem was here already, but I tryied to do, what u were advising and my problem still persists. I am trying to find the final solution and the Win7 will be stable and reliable. I know that, when this ntb was made, there wasn't any Windows 8, nevertheless I don't want Win 8. Now I can only flash the BIOS, it is the last thing, I can do. If the problem will persist, I don't know what should I do with the notebook. (I can return it to the shop only). If you need my system specs or something, just ask. Sorry for my bad English, thanks for your replies

I've got a z580 which came with pre-installed Windows 8.0

Following a Windows corruption I have successfully re-installed Windows 8.0 using OneKey to the original factory status and the z580 is functioning OK, having applied all Windows updates.

However I cannot create a recover disk becauase as soon as I click 'System Backup' in OneKey I get the message 'Current system can not support backup'.

What do I need to do to get OneKey to create a recover disk?

Lenovo Ideapad z580 Win10 64 I updated the bios with the private update (I know now that I should have used the public update) Then it showed this menu:http://i.imgur.com/kZaO2tf.jpg Whenever I selected HDD, the screen would go black for a couple of seconds and return to this menu. I fixed it by going into BIOS and changing bootmode from UEFI to Legacy. it booted but now everything is slow. It takes 5 mins to boot up and a further 15 minutes to reach usable speeds (I only have 4 startup programs). I tried changing it back to UEFI and it gives me the same problem as shown in the picture. I tried installing the public update, but it says that I cannot update as the current bios version is the same or newer. I went into BIOS and enabled BIOS back flash, and now when I try to start the public update, it just crashes. I also cannot access the start menu (this problem may be seperate and unrelated) I have backed up files and am prepared to do a clean reinstall of Win10, but I feel this won't work as it's a BIOS issue. The computer is unusably slow: what should I do? Thanks

I'm guessing it's not but if it's still under warranty send it for repair.

Is the screen completely blank all the time, no text or anything else is displayed at all ?

Shine a light onto the screen and check if there is a faint display of text etc.

Thanks

Answer:z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

Regards

Hi to all guys,i'm here with that little problem..I was doing some "cleaning" on my laptop and i was watching all the softwares that i had..So i thought that it was a great idea format the PC!I opened the "Onekey Recovery" software and i clicked the part where it says that i can format my pc...it says "Do you want to restart your pc for enter in Onekey Recovery Software?" I obviously clicked yes,and the pc restarted...but nothing happened:it did only a simply restart, and i didn't see any softwares show up :\ Anyone has an idea of why? Thanks,Ludovico. (Please sorry for my English,I'm Italian )

Answer:Z580 Onekey Recovery doesn't start!

hi Ludovico,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The partition struction of the drive must have been modified that's why the recovery partition is not triggering via the OneKey Recovery application.

Try one of the following:
1. Create a recovery drive and use it to reset Windows 8.
2. Reset Windows 8

Hope this helps

I wanted to recover my system partition from image I did after installing fresh Windows, I used OneKey recovery feature, everything went fine, no errors, etc. When I was asked wether to reboot my system or shut it down after recovering I chose reboot. And then it stopped reacting at all, monitor didn't even show anything, I shut it down and tried to launch it again but it didn't help. There is a sound that cpu is working but nothing else, monitor doesn't react, keys don't also. I tried lanuching OneKey Revocery menu but it didn't launch too. I tried plugging USB in with Windows on it and installing it that way but it didn't do anything good. I took RAM stick out and turned laptop on to check if there will be any sound that BIOS didn't detect RAM stick but there wasn't so I guess BIOS isn't even loading. Is there anything else I can do to fix it or all I have left is to get it to repair point?

hat appears to I have a new IDEAPAD Z580 and tried to use onekey recovery to do a system backup. It has a default destination, and that is the LENOVO D drive, which is only 24.5 gb. It then informed me there was not enough room on the destination drive and the backup failed. What should I do?

You can use an external usb hdd. Just specify the location when you run OKR for the backup process.

Hi, i had a problem with my Lenovo Yoga 13, I recovered all the data but the partitions are all messed up, and Onekey Recovery doesn't work. I know is something about the partitions, I had also a problem with something called "Intel Rapid Technology" giving me an error, i fixed it creating a partition and setting the id of it (i saw that on this forum somewhere). My list of partitions is this:    Number    Type           Size            Offset------------- ---------------- ------- ---------------Partition 1 OEM           1000 MB      1024 KBPartition 2 System       260 MB        1001 MBPartition 3 OEM           1000 MB      1261 MBPartition 4 Reserved   128 MB         2261 MBPartition 5 Primary       92 GB          2389 MBPartition 6 Primary       4096 MB      95 GBPartition 7 Unknown     8191 MB      99 GBPartition 8 OEM            12 GB          107 GB The partition 7 is the one that I created. I think that partition 1 and partition 8 should appear as "Recovery" type partitions, but I don't know how to set them so. The data in the "D" partition is all there, but i'm not sure about the others, but... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 13 disk partitions for onekey recovery... or delete onekey?

hi iperich,

In some cases, if the partition structure of the hard drive is changed, OneKey Recovery may cease to work.

If you're leaning towards freeing up space on the Yoga 13, check this Yoga 13 Hotfix.

Alternatively, you can also try the following.
1. Create a recovery drive (if it's still applicable - this is to backup your recovery partition into a flashdrive)
2. Follow this guide by Yikes2000. on how to manually repartition the Yoga 13.

In regards to manually deleting partitions 6,7, and 8, this would be fine if the OS is located in partition 5 (ensure that you back-up important files first).

Hello After I hold the OneKey button, it says "Windows is Loading Files", then there's a screen with leaves in the background, there is a mouse cursor, and that's it.Nothing else loads. After about an hour I get a message, "This Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000006). The windows boot manager is not booting giving me two errors, one is error code 0xc0000034 and another error code is 0xc0000185. I tried using the OneKey Recovery to do system restore but it says the partition has been damaged and cannot be restored. I did not do any partitioning to the hard drive besides the default C: and D: drives. I just got my Lenovo ideapad z510 from the repair shop and it came back with literally all programs gone - energy manager and co. But my data was still intact. I downloaded a bunch of drivers and programs from the Lenovo support site and began installing. System restarted normally, and next thing, the one key recovery screen came up. I didn't initiate any recovery. I have a lot - and I mean A LOT - of important data on my laptop. Why the hell would I want to wipe them off? I need to start windows normally without this recovery thingy. Please, please, I need help skipping this thing.

Hi.I have an IdeaPad 310 that shipped with a 2TB HDD that I would like to replace with a 512GB SSD.After speaking with Lenovo support i was under the impression that I should be able to use OneKey recovery to create a USB recovery image, swap the drives over and use System Retore to load a factory fresh OS on my SSD. I have prepared the Recovery USB drive. I am in the process of trying to initiate the OneKey Recovery system restore. This is where i run into problems. OneKey does not pick up my USB drive recovery image.Ok - perhaps the USB drive is not configured as a bootable device. I have used DiskPart to reformat the drive to NTFS format and make the boot partition active (diskpart active). My USB drive is too large to format as FAT32...NTFS is not compatible with UEFI...(?)... So in the BIOS I have selected Boot Mode as Legacy..., Disabled UEFI... USB is enabled. Now when i run OneKey recovery --> System restore... UEFI network boot does not start up, but i receive an error that no OS was found, remove drive and restart (or words to that effect..). What next? Do i need to Format in FAT32 in order to boot from the recovery drive?

Hi everybody i hope you are all doing great. Laptop Details:Lenovo Y50-70 Laptop (Lenovo) 203784720hq512ssd960m16gb ram I made a clean install to my lenovo laptop so I lost some essential applications that came with my laptop. I installed almost all the drivers and apps at lenovo driver support download page without problems but i could not find some of lenovo apps that came in my laptop when i bought it and I really need them. The only one available in the driver download page were Lenovo energy manger. The most importants for me that i need are lenovo onekey recovery app and lenovo updates. For onekey recovery I only need the app, not the files to restore the whole partition, because the recovery partition is intact, I did not format it. So I only need the app that opens it. Th apps I want to get back are:1. Lenovo Onekey Recovery app - The one I am more interested in.2. "Lenovo Updates' (lenovo updates is the name of the app) The scond one im am more interested in.3. Lenovo Settings4. Lenovo companion If someone can guide me to where to download each of them, it would be great. I would need for windows 8.1 64 bit or windows 10. Thank You, I hope you can help me.

Answer:Where do I download Lenovo Y50 Onekey Recovery, Lenovo Settings. "Lenovo updates", Lenovo Companion?

Go to the Windows Store and do a search on "Lenovo."   You will find almost all the apps you need are available there.

Hi, I wanted to restore windows xp to factory settings on my old s-10. First I went to OKR while the computer was on and started the back up. There is no dvd drive so I saved it on my D drive. When it finally finished after 1,5 hour I saw that there is no backup folder in a location that OKR was supposed to save it on. I decided to start a recovery without it. Ipushed the OKR button when the computer was shut down. OKR told me there are some problems to fix and started it. I cancelled it cause I wanted to restore everything anyway. the computer froze so I shut it down with a button. I wanted to start the OKR again but it stopped working. When I push the button it starts the computer and goes strait to windows. I tried like 50 times - not working. What can I do now to restore to factory settings? I don't have any external drive and I'm just a simple user, so I really need and hope there is some easy way to fix it. I already read some posts about a similar problem but none of them worked for me Anybody have a clue what should I do???

Answer:Need help Onekey recovery Ideapad u410 0xc000000f

In case of system failure these are the ways to recovery -

1) Use One Key recovery
2) Use Recovery Disc/USB
3) Download Windows (from microsoft or a site that you trust), make a bootable USB/disc and install on the HDD.
4) Purchase windows and install on laptop.

Seems like you have tried 1 and 2 options. You can go for Option 3, just make sure to download the exact same windows which is on your current laptop.

If you in warranty, contact Lenovo support in your country and get your laptop re-imaged.

TIP - Always take backup of your personal files on an external HDD. Restoring laptop to factory setting deletes all your personal data.

Just though I'd try and use the OneKey Recovery system to reload the backup image I created with on a Memory Card. I noticed that the OneKey Recovery is unable to read my memory card from the built in card reader. My workaround is to use an external usb memory card reader and then the OneKey Recovery system is able to read my card and restoring the backed up image worked fine. Also note, for anyone still looking, the OneKey button location on the IdeaPad P500 is a tiny round flush mounted button to the right of the power connector on the left side of the chassis.  You can push this button to power on your system go directly to a menu that gives acces to OneKey Recover, Boot Menu, and BIOS setup. Thank you.

Ok, got a brand new S205, just few weeks old. After fiddling a lot with it i've decided to check out OneKey Recovery feature. So i run OneKey Recovery, select System Recovery and confirm that i want to restart. But when it restarts, instead of going to recovery system, Windows 7 just starts up again like i just restarted the netbook. I've also tried the Recovery button in the top right corner of keyboard. Shut down the netbook as described in the guide and pressed the button. Netbook starts up and just goes straight into Windows 7. Whats going on here? I have checked the partitions and the recovery partition is there and is hidden (checked with EASEUS Partition Master). I've read here that OneKey fails if its not hidden. But in my case it is NOT visible in My Computer. I've also tried re-installing OneKey Recovery program and nothing changed. Here is the PTEDIT32 image of my partitions, so you can check if everything is in order as far as partitions are concerned. I'm using:Lenovo IdeaPad S205E-4504GB RAM500GB 5400RPM HDD (WD Scorpio Blue)Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit (came preinstalled with it) Please help as i'm now unable to restore my netbook to factory default!

Hello! My PC is not starting anymore, it says "Preparing repair..." and then nothing happens. It all started with the imposibility to empty the recyle bin and then I couldn't copy files to the drive F. The C drive and the D were ok. Anyway, I have my laptop partitioned that way, three drives.C with the system, F where I have all my personal files and D is almost empty and not important. They partitioned my drives like that at the store when I bought my laptop. The very important question is, will onekey recovery delete everything? Including the D and F drive or just the C drive? I haven't backed up my files and I can't boot my computer to save them, so I really need some help with that. I kept reading these forums here and some people say onekey only deletes C, other people say it deletes everything, so I am very confused. Please advise!! When you first had the unit with the stated partiitons, have you tried restoring to factory condition using OneKey  recovery? The reason I ask the question is that afaik repartitioning and resizing is no no to onekey recovery.  That is it will no longer function.

Hello, there's a way for you to create your own recovery disk. Here's a useful link on how to do it : http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-create-windows-8-recovery-cd/

Hello,I have a Ideapad Z580 which came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Basic. When the Windows 8 Pro upgrade was available, I applied the same using the windows upgrade utility. this was over an year ago. However, during this time since I use the laptop for my work, a lot of BI apps have been installed and uninstalled from it resulting in an overall system slow down.I therefore want to restore the laptop to the factory condition. I dont need any of the other pre-installed applications, just the OS restored either Windows 8 or even the Default windows 7 home basic would be fine. The problem is I dont have any of the recovery disks for ither of the versions. Can anyone suggest what can be done here? Thanks,Ashish K

Answer:IdeaPad z580 recovery/restore

Hi Ashish,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I understand your concern, but as you have upgraded the OS (Operating System) without creating the recovery discs for the pre-installed Windows 7. Hence, the OKR (One Key Recovery) button can be used if there are no changes made in the drives in the HDD (Hard Disk Drive). If there is any changes in the Recovery Partition will affect the OKR, the only available option is to contact our Technical Support for Assistance to get guided to exact department of sales for more information regarding the concern.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards
Shiva Kumar

I finished working on research at the cafe this afternoon on my Lenovo Ideapad 604, came home, powered up and it is stuck in this 'Windows 8 Recovery Loop' non-sense. Turn it on, automatic recovery starts, diagnoses, fails to start windows, asks to recover or shut down, click through the Windows recovery troubleshooting menus to get to the advanced options button in order to try to boot in safemode. This is where things get messy. On troubleshoot menu (refresh, rest, advanced options screen) if you click any of these buttons the windows recovery program freezes solid. Attempts to use the NOVO button land you indefinitely on a blank blue screen. I'm guessing the hard drive has bad sectors (explaining the freezing recovery screen) and needs to be replaced.I've owned this laptop for less than 6 months and have no complaints. This is the first 'issue' I've ran into. I'll call support/service and let everyone know how it goes.Options:1) Call service. They send me a magic box and fix it at Lenovo (happened in the past with my Y510 keyboard).2) Someone out there knows a trick to fix this issue.3) Nuke Windows 8 and NOVO. I have WIndows 7 pro 64bit that can be loaded onto a USB.

Answer:Ideapad S405 Windows 8 and OneKey NOVO Recovery Failure

hi Firefly2462,

Thanks for Posting,

Since the issue is kind of in the middle of a Hardware(HDD) and Software (Windows Corrupted) Issue.
i would suggest to have the system repaired by Lenovo.
Definitely they would test the HDD in their repair center,
It is understandable that the Windows OS sometimes may fail or get corrupted but together with the Onekey recovery Partition to fail? Something might be wrong with the HDD where Both are saved,

You can try doing a test on the HDD on your own before sending the machine for repair,
If the HDD test result showed up OK then you can just ask for a disk To reinstall Windows since the OKR is not working I believe they would send you one.

If the HDD Tested bad then have it repaired and have the HDD replaced.

Regarding your Windows 7 OS you will need to have your Own Product Key for Windows 7 as the one used for your windows 8 will not be compatible.

Its fine to use your own OS like Windows 7 just make sure that the HDD is good maybe do a test after installing windows 7, also take note that some portion of your warranty may be voided by changing your Windows version.

Best Regards
Solid Cruver

I am using a Lenovo Ideapad S10-2 under Windows XP.  Since the OneKey Recovery system on my computer has not worked properly (program check/blue screen each time I am trying a full backup of my system), I wanted to install a new version of that program to fix this problem. I downloaded the file "IN1OKR17WW1" from lenovo.com and double clicked on it. The program started and seemed to be preparing the installation wizard, when Windows XP sent me a message 'Please use the CONTROL PANEL to remove or modify system software'. The execution of the program stopped. So I started the control panel, selected the programs section and clicked on 'OneKey Recovery'. I was shown a prompt "Do you really want to remove this program?" Hesitantly I responded yes, hoping that the installation wizard would kick in afterwards and complete the installation of the new version. But after the removal of the old version of OneKey Recovery, nothing happened. So I have no OneKey Recovery on my system now. How can I install the newly downloaded version of OneKey Recovery to my system?

Answer:Problems Installing New Version of OneKey Recovery on my Ideapad S10-2 (Windows XP)

Did you install Windows 7 from a CD? The One-Key recovery partition may have been deleted when you installed Windows 7.

This machine has been working fine until the battery died. On purchasing a replacement and after charging I switched on the machine only to be confronted with a black screen with the icons above the keyboard flashing, then after a couple of seconds the machine re-starts with the same symptoms and continues to start-shutdown-start. I have removed the power adaptor and the battery and held down the power button for around 60 seconds without success. The reset/restore button that is located next to the power button only produces the same result when pressed.During the start-up process, NOTHING is seen on the laptop screen OR an externally connected monitor. I have also tried known good replacement RAM and hard drive and have installed a new CMOS battery but the fault persists. Can the BIOS be updated via a bootable USB flash drive without access to the screen? I seem to have a failed laptop Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Answer:what is best windows for lenovo ideapad z580 ?

Hi jimrako,

This is really a tricky question because it depends on your hardware.

The best way I can think of answering this is by providing you the requirements for each then you can check against your requirements:

Windows 10:

RAM:
1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space:
16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

Graphics card:
DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Display:
800x600
Cons: a bit of a learning curve as it changes a lot

Windows 8

Processor: 1 GHz or faster processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: Without Touch it is not intuitive

Windows 7

Processor: 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB of RAM (32-bit)/2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit)/20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: None really, it is awesome

Windows XP

Processor: 233 MHz CPU
Memory(RAM): 64 MB of RAM (may limit performance and some features)
Hard Disk: 1.5 GB of available hard disk space
Graphics: Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
Cons: No longer supported by Microsoft

Again, this is my opinion, without a touch sc... Read more

On the Lenovo Onekey Recovery, I selected the option to restore system partition to its initial status. Now I'm not sure what this does exactly, but it then asked for what language I wanted to use and then username and password. And before I could type in anything, the screen turn black and no matter what I did, it wouldn't budge from there. Now I don't know if I accidentally removed windows and I don't know how to get it back. Does anyone know what options I have?

Has anyone been able to transfer the OneKey recovery partition to a new hard drive on the IdeaPad Y430/530/730? Reason I ask is because I want to transfer the OneKey in the latest Y series IdeaPads to a Y410. I have placed a hard drive for a Y430 in a Y410 and it boots into it just fine with the NOVO button. I was hoping I could transfer it over and recreate a Windows image for the Y410. However, I have noticed that OKR 6.0 will not run in a Y410 [at least when I installed it on mine]. It may work on a fresh install of XP [hopefully]. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, The mute key (the far left onekey just above the keyboard that lights up) keeps randomly switching the sound on and off without me touching it. It is makes the laptop almost completely useless for playing any multimedia. Please can you help me with this..... Dear Team, I bought Z580 ideapad last week with Windows 8 pre installed. I wanted to take backup of my windows 8 OS for safe keeping. If in case my OS crashes or if I change my OS from Windows 8 to other OS and later if i want to change it back to my licensed Windows 8. I heard about this onekey recovery. Is this option available only for recovering the OS during crash ? or Can I take backup of my OS using this feature ?. Please tell me how to take backup of my Windows 8 OS using onekey recovery or by any other method avilable. So that at any time i might be able to have my licensed OS.

Answer:Taking Windows 8 Backup using one key recovery on my Z580 Ideapad

Hi friendLenovo offers one key reocvery to the user to revert to the factory install only. You can create a custom backup of your c drive via the onekey recovery application in windows. However, to use that backup, you will have to boot to onekey recovery by pressing the onekey button next to the power button to power on the laptop. So if somehow the okr breaks( i hope it doesn't), you will neither be able to reset to factory defaults nor use the backup created by you. So you can use the inbuilt recovery options of windows 8. See this threadhttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/Various-Ways-of-recovery-in-Windows-8/td-p/947369And this linkhttp://support.lenovo.com/en_IN/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT076024Hope this helps

Hi,I have a problem with my Lenovi Ideapad Z580. Below you can see the hardware specifications. My problem is that laptop is lagging (freezing) whenever I run movies, listen to music, youtube, basically while doing anything. It happens randomly, lasts only for few moments (like a scratchy noise). I do not need to restart computer, but it's very annoying and concerning, especially because the machine is only few months old and I would say, quite powerful. Just to give you some information in regards to what I tried so far:  - I checked processes in task manager whenever lagging occures > I noticed no issues. I mean, CPU ussage, Disk Usage etc. are all under 30-40-50% (if not less)  - Checked if laptop is overheating - 100% not the case, laptop is cold, normal temperature. I had a similar problem on my old Acer that was overheating, so I would know if this would be the problem - I ran virus scan - let me say that computer came installed with McAffee Security, which I disabled and installed Avast (free), as I read that McAffee can cause Wireless connection problem (which I had by the way...) - Updated Nvidia card drivers Any help, opinion would be appreciated, as I am getting more and more concerned with this issue. LenovoItem Weight2.6 KgProduct Dimensions25 x 37.6 x 3.3 cmBatteries1 Nonstandard Battery batteries required. Hi, I just purchased a brand new, in-the-box Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 laptop. It was advertised as having built-in Bluetooth technology. I just received the computer in the mail today. When I took the computer out of the box and booted it, I noticed that there was no icon for Bluetooth anywhere. I downloaded a driver off Lenovo's website and tried to install it, but the driver crashed in mid-installation. Some websites suggest checking the BIOS and enabling/disabling (and re-enabling) Bluetooth under the settings, but when I go to the settings, there is no Bluetooth device listed. Lenovo website says that to edit Bluetooth settings, you must press Fn/F5 simultaneously. When I do this, all that comes up is a screen with settings for my Wireless Network Card. There is supposed to be both Bluetooth and Wireless there. Other people have said they have experienced this situation as well, but nobody seems to have a solution online. I am using the packaged OS (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit). Device Manager does not list any Bluetooth device, from what I can see. What gives? It's a brand new machine.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 Bluetooth Problem

There should be an BT enable/disable option in your bios, but as you have said you cannot find one, the box that you Z580 came in has the specifications on a white label on the  side, mine says BT 2.1 even though it`s BT 4.0 , you might not have BT have a look. EDIT : I had to remove the cover off the bottom of my Z580 to check the wifi card model  i had, it`s only 1 screw, take a photo and post it here, you will not invalidate your warranty as long as you dont damage anything. EDIT 2: the link below is a photo of my wifi card in my Z580 the part circuled in red is the lenovo part number, which is listed in the service manual pdf as an Broadcom BCM4313 + BT4.0 Post what the number is on your wifi card and i should be able to tell if you have bluetooth. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/policeman999/wificard_zpsa5bfef89.jpg John.

DVD Writer etc.  Operating System : Windows 8.11.  MY laptop is all fine. But it is somewhat slow.actually not somewhat but its actually slow and i believe that the main performance bottleneck is the HDD ( 5400 rpm ) , so now i am thinking of replacing the HDD with a SSD.Thats fine enough ? what i want now is that i want to remove the DVD Writer of my laptop and put this 1TB HDD in a bay adapter there.i am thinkng of getting a 120GB Samsung 840 Pro series SSD ( isn't that enough ) that i would write the operating system to and the program files and the rest stuff on the 1TB HDD.Would it work ?  if it would where do i get the bay adpater that would fit in the laptop without causing problems ? i want the bay adapter from lenovo or any other reputed company.also , i am from india the thing must be available here.I have seen many bay adapters available but they aren't avaiable for india. Please suggest where i could get it ?2.  As you may have seen the laptop configuration my laptop battery doesn't give me that much of a back up.it gives me 2 hours and 15 minutes when in power saver mode , full brightness reduction and the NVIDIA has been disabled in BIOS.i want a 9 cell option for this instead of 6 cel... I?m sorry to hear that the internal speakers in your Z580 Laptop is not working as expected, I suggest you to check if the Left/Right volume settings are at 100%. Below are the steps with images to check the settings:

1. Please right click on the ?Speaker? icon located at right bottom corner in the Taskbar and select ?Playback devices?.

Well with my old clunky acer laptop I could use the touchpad on games flash games and still be able to use my touchpad. However on my new laptop I cannot do that and the touchpad stops working if I press a key. Also with Lenovo touchzone on start up it gives me a black background and I have to close it in task manager, could this be part of my earlier problem

Answer:I think I might have an issue with my Lenovo Z580 ideapad touchzone

hi JoshTheGamer2,

Can you try to uninstall your current touchpad driver and install the one below and try to test it out:

Synaptics Touchpad Driver v16.2.21
Windows 8/7/XP/Vista 64/32-bit Edition
111.5 MB zip

Let me know your findings:

Cheers.

I am considering getting the z580 (model# 215168U) at lenovo website due to their free return/no restocking fee offer. Still, I would be disappointed if I had to return it after trying. Many people on this forum apparently had issues with no customer support/resolution with Thinkpad edge e530, the laptop I initially considered buying. I do not want to be in their shoes. So, z580 a reliable purchase from lenovo.com in your experience (those who bought)? I am assuming that I would be on my own if the laptop has any issues  based on some experiences posted here.
