Z580 WIRELESS WINDOWS 10

Question: Z580 WIRELESS WINDOWS 10

I have upgraded to windows 10 and my computer will not recognise my wireless network either through WiFi or ethernet cable. I have followed the solution on website but the troubleshooter doesn't recognise any problem and the manual solution doesn't recognise registry key Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Z580 WIRELESS WINDOWS 10

you should try doing a clean Windows 10 install. it solved my (a bit different) WiFi issue.

Answer:problem in wireless in z580

Dear Malavshah

Welcome in lenovo forums

If your computer connects to the network through abroadband router , resetting (powering off and on) the router may resolve the issue. If not using a broadband router, or if resetting your router only temporarily resolves the issue and the error message re-appears later, continue to the following steps.
If connecting to your network using Wi-Fi and using wireless security, your WEP or other security key may not be set properly. Check the wireless security configuration on your computer's network adapter and update if it necessary.
If connecting to your network using an Ethernet cable, your cable may have failed. Temporarily replace your network cable with a new one to determine whether this resolves the issue.

Please let me know

Thanks

I've had wireless issues for awhile now and it seems to be getting worse. I can only be connected to the internet wirelessly for a few seconds and then I have to troubleshoot the problem. Sometimes it is fixed, with it saying default gateway unavailable. But now I sometimes have to disconect and reconect the troubleshoot to try and get some form of internet. Sometimes this doesn't work and I have to forget the network all together. I tried upgrading to windows 8.1 in hopes it might fix some issues. I feel it's ten times worse now.  My laptop has a broken hinge that is common with this ideapad model, I am getting it fixed soon. Do I need to also order another wireless card and if so what should I get. I am going to university soon and I will not have much income for fixing my laptop. I bought this thing a year ago planning for it to last me at least five years. But at this point I'm about to bring my old IBM laptop I bought back in 2004 with me instead. This is rediculous and I can barely do my homework. So please help.

My wireless connection has been getting gradually worse. The laptop keeps losing its connection to my router. If I turn it off or disable then enable the adapter (Atheros AR9285) the connection is restored but now for about a minute only before it's lost again. Any ideas? Should I just buy an external adapter?

At my wits end.  Purchased a Lenovo z580 ideapad 5 months ago.  I cannot maintain wireless connection; it drops a few times a day.   It?s gotten worse since I updated to 8.1??..but I had the same problem with Windows 8.  With my wife?s Sony and my old HP, this NEVER happens, so it?s not a router problem.  After googling up the ying-yang, I incorporated all the below suggestions with NO resolvement: 1 .Device Manager (DM):  Power Management tab-->Unchecked box, ?Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power?2. DM: Uninstalled and reinstalled wireless driver (Intel Centrino Wireless- N2200)2. DM:  Network Adapters-->Advanced tab-->Made the value ?Auto?4. DM: Disabled Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 USB Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  I?m wondering if this is a hardware issue (wireless card), and I should just send back to Lenovo because it?s still under warranty.

I am writing this on behalf of my father, who has recently bought an IdeaPad Z580. He was getting increasingly frustrated at Windows 8, so I suggested for him to downgrade it to Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. After finally overcoming the hurdle of the GPT harddrive, I am now stumped by the fact that now the wireless adaptor wont work. I am able to use the Ethernet cable adaptor, and it is currently plugged into the router and working fine with a wired connection, but let's be honest, what';s the point in having a laptop, if you can't surf on the move? I've tried redownloading drivers and such for the wireless adaptor with no success. Hope someone has a suggestion. Thanks in advance! edit: typo

I have just purchased the Lenovo Z580 two days ago. Its the i3 model with Windows 8 and I have since noticed problems with the internal wireless adaptor. When I'm connected to my router wirelessly my signal is terrible I get five bars initially then two and then one and it remains on one bar thereafter or disconects entirely. My other computers are fine with the range from the router even when in the same room as the Lenovo laptop and the Lenovo is the only one that struggles to maintain a coonection, I have also noticed that the bandwidth recieved by the wireless adapter is also poor in that I am mostly getting 1Mbps. I have tried installing another driver but it didn't help, I have also opened the bottom panal and checked the cables to the antanna and still no improvement. I'm not sure why it has such poor range, the device manager shows its a broadcom card, I've never had a braodcom before I usually have atheros because all of my previous laptops have been Toshiba. I'd appreciate some advice from the community here, are there any known problems with the wireless adaptors for this hardware? Thanks to all who take the time to help.

My z580 has had wireless issues for around 8 months (could sometimes take 4/5 restarts to recognise the wireless card). I bought a new wireless card, installed it whilst the computer was in sleep mode and it worked perfectly for 2 weeks before the laptop ran out of power and shut down. Upon restarting it said wireless card not supported and now I'm stuck with a laptop with no internet. From the list of whitelisted cards I can only find 2 used cards that are available to buy. Is there no way of buying these cards new? It seems ridiculous that my perfectly working card is now useless and essentially the entire laptop. I don't wan't to install a different BIOS as I would have no idea what I was doing and  the risk seems too great. Help please!

Have your bios modified. Here is the link. However you stated "I don't wan't to install a different BIOS as I would have no idea what I was doing and the risk seems too great.". But this is an option for you to consider.2. Buy a card with an fru number from Ebay. Here is a typical vendor. However, it is not a sure solution. Some say it works and some say it doesn't.3. Buy a new unit with no whitelist whatsoever to the wifi card and other replaciable components. This may sound absurd but it is still an option.

Hi there,Apologies if this is a repeated thread/post/question, but I've recently starting experiencing some problems with the Wireless on my IdeaPad z580 (to my knowledge, I have not updated any software to have reasonably caused this problem)Every so often now (seemingly 2-3 times a day), the wireless card seems to cut out completely, only allowing limited connection. If I try to turn switch it into aeroplane mode and back again, it completely disables the wifi and it grays out the option to switch it back on again. If I then go through networking on the control panel to re-enable the hardware it completely crashes the laptop and has to be hard-rebooted. Likewise if I attempt to use Microsofts pathetic troubleshooting to resolve the problems the laptop crashes and has to be restarted.I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit alongside Linux Mint 15, which I mainly use for University work. The laptop uses a Broadcom BCM4313 Wireless Card. My suspicion is that this is a hardware issue, and having only had the laptop ~6 months I should be able to get it repaired under warranty from Lenovo (I think). From some internet searches I have seen others have problems where the wireless card gets shut down by Energy Management, however it seems like they simply cannot connect and switching the card off and on again fixes the issue. Is this a known problem with Lenovo? Is there anything that can be done to stop it happening? Am I covered by a warranty? It may be worth noting that if my wireless goe... Read more

Hello all!I had been having some connectivity issues with my network at home and at school, and I had been experiencing some slow data transfer rates between my Z580 and my intranet in my home. I did some research and discovered that the Centrino Wireless-N220 wifi card in my laptop only supported 2.4Ghz wifi signal!I started researching some other similar wifi cards to see if I could replace it. I did not find any other threads similar to my issue, and the intel and lenovo websites did not have a compatability chart. This being said, could I just swap out the crappy Wireless-N220 with something like an Intel Ultimate N-6300 or an Advanced N-6205? The cards both use the same PCIe slot, and are just about the same size. The ultimate question: can I just swap cards and be on my way?

Answer:Z580 wireless card replacement

The short answer is no.  The longer answer is yes - maybe - but not with one of those cards.  And probably not in the 5GHz band.

Lenovo laptops typically use a BIOS whitelist for wifi cards.  In order to boot with a wifi card installed it has to be a whitelisted model (Intel 6150NX, for instance) and have a Lenovo FRU number (20002484 for that Intel card).  A plain-vanilla 6150NX won't work.

The hardware maintenance manual contains the list of supported cards and their FRU numbers:

http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_z380_z480_z485_z580_z585_hmm_1st_edition_feb...

After a quick look through the list, it doesn't appear that any of the supported cards support 5HGz   I'm just basing that on the lack of "A" in the features list (BGN vs AGN) that usually indicates 5GHz capability.

I'd be happy to be corrected on this one.

Z.

I got a brand new lenovo ideapad z580 about 6 days ago but haven't been able to use it much because of the unbearly slow wireless internet speed! It takes 2 minutes simply to load google and 3 or 4 to load more complicated things like youtube videos or facebook.  It works perfectly fine when I hook it up to the modem physically though. And the wireless internet connection is "excellent" and stable so I'm not sure why it is so slow. Also, I removed the extra programs I didn't want.

Hello, I bought an ideapad z580 not to long ago with Windows 8 and I have had only one recurring issue with it. My wireless internet connection will go unavailable often. I know it's not my actual internet that is the issue, because it works perfect on my other laptop and I've never had this issue. Every time my internet disconnects, I try to reconnect it but it won't, which results in having to restart my computer and then it works fine afterwards, but eventually it will disconnect again. Like I said before, I know it's not my wifi connection. It works 100% until it disconnects and then, like I said, I have to restart my computer every time. I have no idea why it keeps doing this and I can't figure it out, so I was hoping someone could walk me through some steps to troubleshoot or perhaps if someone just knows what's going on, that would be splendid.

Answer:Ideapad z580 wireless connection issue

Same exact problem for me too! very frustrating. The connection will just randomly drop. It happens alot wen my comp goes to sleep and i wake it back up to find its disconnected, but also wen im actively using it. i have to play around with the connection, going back and forth between connecting and disconnecting until it works. the other way to get it to reconnect is to restart. Sometimes if i let the comp sit for a while it will reconnect on its own. The other thing is wen it disconnects and i look for active networks, my router is still there in the list. if i try to connect its works for a while and then eventually says cant connect to this network. All other computers work fine on the same router, never have disconnect probs. just seems like a very random prob with this computer or its wireless card. im running windows 8 on a lenovo ideapad z580. belkin router. intel centrino wireless n-2200 card. thanks for any help.

Help! well, as title suggests have new Z580 about month old now.  wif-fi keeps dropping out, sometimes every 15-20 mins, sometimes only evey 2-3 hours however, not router as all other (4) computers fine in office and doesn't happen at home.  Also tried changing channels and static ip address.  were these manufactured with poor cards? Laptop was sent off for repair due to this and as signal strength was not good in comparison to other laptops in room when at home but it was returned and made no difference.  signal strength still not good but will live with it if can resolve this (or even pay to get a better one put in).Had our own IT support look at it numerous times (Lenovo phone support pretty useless other then suggesting updating drivers)Have updated drivers twice, checked adapter power savings, wi-fi settings as far as can, router etc.  Any other suggestions?  Don't want to send off again to lose 2 weeks and have it returned unchanged and not sure how can replicate fault if I did.Running Windows 8.

Answer:ideapad Z580 wireless dropping out regularly

hi nb64,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Since you have already updated the drivers and reconfigured the adapter settings, can you try the following:

1. Reseat the WLAN module & the connectors. To do this, see page 42 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
2. After reseating the WLAN module, reboot the computer and boot into the BIOS. When you're in, press F9 to reload the default settings and press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
3. Also, try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking to see if there's a software that's causing the problem. If everything's ok in Safe Mode with Networking, temporarily disable your security software, perform a clean boot and observe the PC.

Hope this helps

I've recently been having issues with both my wireless adapter and the cooling fan in my Z580. I upgraded to Windows 10 about 1 year ago. My fan does not seem to work at all, I can't hear it and the laptop climbs to very high temperatures. More recently the Wifi has been disconnecting and my router disapears from the list. Switching on and off the computer helps 80% of the time. I'm not exactly sure of where to start to try and resolve this.

Hello everyone I have just brought a new Lenovo z580 ideapad. It came with windows 8 which is un-usable. So i did a clean install of windows 7 and proceed to try installing the drivers. Windows refuses the ackowledge the existence of my wireless adapter. I've opened the bottom up and i can see its there but it won't recognise it. I installed the driver, and it just won't recognise it. I went into device management, and there was a little exclamation mark by "network controller" i don't know if that is the wireless adapter that it won't recognise. I've gone into bios and disabled WLAN and then re-booted and reanbled it in bios and tried again all to no avail. I don't know what to do i'm at a loss... Does anyone have any ideas?

I would like to express my dissatisfaction at how poor the build in WLAN card is on my Z580. I am sitting here typing this using my laptop on a G rated old USB plug in WIFI adaptor receiving full signal with my built in WIFI currently disabled as its the only way I can get a signal, yet sitting next to this laptop is my 3 year old low spec netbook which has full signal to the same router! For a fairly high spec laptop to have such a poorly performing Wireless card is beyond belief. If you search this very support forum there are numerous reports of how poor the broadcom WLAN adaptor is. This brings me to a few questions: Why is the bios whitelisted to only allow Lenovo FRU WIFI cards to work? I am more that capable of installing a WIFI card myself but you make this impossible by not even allowing customers to purchase replacement WIFI cardsWas there a faulty batch of wireless cards installed on these laptops? Will someone send me a replacement FRU WIFI card?I have done all the checks, uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled the drivers, checked the router itself etc. so please don't ask me to do the basics, I work for one of the largest ISP's in Britain and have access to the latest N rated 300 Mbps routers for testing purposes. I know someone is going to come on to this and advise me I need to call technical support, but why should I waste time out of my day on a premium rate number to call them for them to take me through the checks I have already done,... Did you ever get any kind of response for this? I have just got a new router and I now realise how poor this Broadcom wireless adapter is! Where can I find a list of the compatible wireless adapters, as I cannot continue only receiving 72mbps single band connections when my router is capable of 450mbps.

We have two Lenovo Ideapads Z580 which connect to the internet wireless, then keep losing their connection.  I downloaded the Lenovo Support Software and ran the tests.  All tests passed except the Wireless connectivity test.  It came back with a warning result code WWF00F000-VL7V4D.  What does this mean?  We are ready to go out and buy new Dell laptops just to solve this problem. Any suggestions? Thankyou. Diane

Hey,

I seem to be having an issue with the wireless on my Lenovo Ideapad Z580.

After a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate I have no wireless. The "Network Controller" controller comes up as flagged under Device Manager. Installing the wireless drivers provided from the official website doesn't help, they either tell me I don't have the correct hardware or tell me it hasn't installs and gives me the option to reinstall using recommended settings, which also doesn't help.

Any help at all would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Hello there, 3 days after receiving my z580 (win7, i5 3210, 630m) i'm still fighting it. While tshooting an earlier issue i accidentally got rid of all the partitions in the hard drive, and now i can't use my wireless card (which i know was at least detecting my neighbors signals with the original OS). I think that just prior to deleting the original partitions i had used the function keys to disable the wireless card, and somehow that seems to have triggered a hardware switch which i can't seem to find a way to turn back on.I imagine that installing the osd/hotkey driver should restore that functionality but after trying everything in the z580 downloads page both for win7 and 8, plus some other possibly older lenovo hotkey drivers, i'm still without luck. I really miss the days when hardware switches were actual hardware switches.Thoughts?

Hi, I have had problems with my wireless network card since I purchased my Lenovo Ideapad Z580. The wireless card would suddenly stop working, but would restore itself after a few hours. Last week suddenly in the middle of my session, my laptop suddenly could no longer connect to wifi. On restarting I realized the wireless network card wasn't working. In fact, the OS does not even realize that the laptop has a wireless network card. It can still recognize the ethernet card and bluetooth. Here is what I did:Went to Device Manager --> Network Adapters. I could not find the wireless adapter listed there. The following were listed: Bluetooth Device (PAN), Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM), Realtek PCIe FE.I changed the settings to view hidden items. I can see the wireless adapter (Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2200). There were a few other adapters that are hidden as well, viz.: Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #2, Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter, Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter, Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter #2.I tried right clicking and uninstalling Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter. Hi, I have a Lenovo Z580 since almost 2 years and never had real problems with it. A couple of weeks ago it started doing somethine strange. My wireless connection at work is fluctuating. I ran a couple of speedtests and it seems I get download speed in portions, instead of constantly.I must mention that this happens only to my laptop, the colleagues don't have this problem, so it's not a router issue and that at my home network I don't have this issue.  My specs:Windows 8.1, x64 Bit, 8GB Ram, Intel Core i5-3210M CPUWireless driver: Broadcom 802.11n Network Adaptor, version 6.30.223.143 I run eveything on High Performance when plugged in and also when unplugged my wireless adaptor is set on High. Kind regards,Stefan

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

Sorry to hear about the issue you are facing , Please try following
Stop any unnecessary network connections, or services
Ensure you have latest driver installed & also windows is updated
Go to your network item; click right click; then properties.Go to the box in Networking which says "This Connection Uses the following items:" and remove the tick which is to the left of "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" , then click ok, and there you are not using this technology while connecting to just this network.

I've been having issues with my wireless connection for the last few months. It will sometimes work fine for a few hours and then suddenly go to limited connectivity and I would lose all internet connection. It says it is still connected but if I was to turn the router off it doesn't notice. Also when I disconnect and try to reconnect it fails to do so. When troubleshooting the issue the laptop will try and restart the adapter which then causes the entire computer to freeze and require a restart. Upon restarting the issue is sometimes fixed and sometimes not.I have tried updating drivers and going back to old ones but this doesn't seem to make much of a difference. The network adapter I have is a Broadcom with a model number of BCM94313HMGB. When looking for drivers on the lenovo website they appear to be aimed at different manafacturers and not broadcom. I don't know if this could be an issue? I've also tried changing the rate and power management settings, neither of which help. Its getting to the stage where I can barely use the laptop and I'm considering either buying an external wifi adapter which would be awkward to use and carry around, or buying a new wireless card of another brand. Any ideas?

The problem that i have is that my wireless keeps shutting off after when start my computer from sleep mode. The wireless icon in the toolbar says it is not connected. I click the icon and absolutely nothing comes up. there is no way to reconnect to the Internet even through command prompt.  the other way this happens is when I get a limited icon on the wireless ( I live in a dorm so not sure either the router or computer). So i have to keep on re-connecting 3-5 times to the wireless and then the wireless shuts and I cannot reconnect.  *********The only I fix this issue is to Restart my laptop********* All of my drivers are up to date. I saw on another forum that someone reinstalled and formatted windows 8.1. I don't have time at this moment my finals are coming up.   The thing with the wireless going to limited all the time I think is a dorm thing. My dorm-mates are getting the same problem.  This is not normal I think. My desktop at that i built does not have this problem and none of the computers i have been around ever had this problem. It seems everyone is having there own little specific problems of the wireless with the Z580 model.  Appreciate it allot. O ya this is my first post.

Answer:z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

Regards

As the title says, just wondered if theres any lenovo software the works with the z580 ? lenovo companion on windows 8 offers some stuff but its listed as u series ect ? cheers for replys inadvance, mike

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

Answer:Wifi and bluetooth is not working after upgarding windows 7 home basic to windows 8,,Z580

Hi hemantrocks1990,

First lets check if the drivers for the Wifi and Bluetooth is installed properly under the Windows 8 environment.  On the desktop press the windows key + c, then click on settings, then click on control panel.  Under control panel switch to large icons for view and go to system.  Under system we will have device manager available.

Please check if you can see the category Bluetooth, and the wireless adapter under Network adapters category.  If they are present, go to the properties of wireless adapter and check if the driver version is the latest and if the drivers are installed properly.  The latest Bluetooth driver version for Windows 8 is 12.0.0.1671/8.0.0.206 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.  The latest Wireless driver version for Windows 8 15.5.0.42/6.30.59.26/10.0.0.67 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.

If the drivers are installed properly, then we have to check if we are able to turn on and off the bluetooth or the wireless adapter.  Hit Fn+F5 and see if an interface comes up that gives you radio buttons to turn off or turn on your wireless and bluetooth adapters.  If no interface comes up, you may need to install the Lenovo Energy Management program to enable the hotkeys for turning on bluetooth and the wireless. Here is the link for the Lenovo Energy Management program.

Hey All This is my 1st post here.. I have Z580 laptop with One Key Recovery Option... I have dual boot in it - Windows 7 Home Basic and WIndows Server 2008 R2 I want to create a back up image file of both at the same time, using One Key Recovery, so that I can restore back in future, if need be 1. So, I will log in to, say, WIndows 7 and take the back up image.. Will that take an image for both OS at the same time? Basic question here is does it image of the Hard disk or each OS.. 2. Or do I have to take a separate image of both after logging into respective OS? 3. If answer to 1 is YES, will that restore both the systems at the same time in future using the One Key Recovery solution? 4. If the answer to 2 is YES, can i restore both the systems individually just by using the One Key Recovery solution? Br, Ajay Maheshwari

On a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 Model 2151 Manufactured 5/6/2012

The computer will not boot. It defaults to the automatic Windows Repair menu.

When I first ran Windows Repair, it said that I have a corrupted mfewfpk.sys file, which is associated with McAfee Antivirus software.

Windows startup repair: ?cannot repair this computer automatically?.

I restored the system to the previous restore point and the one before that with no change.

In the command prompt, if sfc/scannow is chosen it says ?There is a system repair pending that requires reboot to complete. If I reboot the computer, I get the same message. I have done this multiple times. It's stuck in a loop.

When I tried to download a Windows 7 ISO file, Microsoft says to contact Lenovo.  Even if I am able to make a bootable Windows 7 USB drive, would I be able to fix the corrupted mfewfpk.sys file?

before I had win7. But I switched on win8 I can not turn on wifi or BT.and I do not have to turn it magager WiFI and BT. lenovo does not have a driver for it

Answer:Z580 windows 8 WIFI, BT

You must install the Windows 7 version of Lenovo Energy Manager for wifi or bluetooth to work.  The Windows 8 version does not allow you to use fn+f5.  Once you install the Windows 7 version, you can push fn+f5 and activate wifi or bluetooth.  There will be compatibility warnings, but it is the only way to turn on wifi and bluetooth at this time.  Do not reinstall the Windows 8 version until Lenovo updates the software, because you will eventually lose wifi or bluetooth again.  Also, you may need to use a program like Universal Extractor for the install files to extract properly. I hope this helps.  It took me lots of searching to find someone who figured this out.

I picked the version with no system, as I already own a copy of Win8.Everything installed properly, but I'm having one extremely annoying problem that practically prevents me from using this laptop. I mean wireless internet... It connected without any problems just after the installation of Win8. Though after literally few minutes I ended up with the limited connectivity problem. I disconnected from the wireless network and connected again and it worked... for another 10-15 minutes. And it's happening all the time. I've been struggling with this problem since yesterday, so here are the things I've already tried:-installing WLAN drivers for Win8 from Lenovo - I get the message that "The setup program for the target device is not found",-downloading all important updates from Windows Update,-installing the chinese Lenovo drivers as I've seen it mentioned on these forums,-disabling IPv6 (through regedit),-disabling the IP Helper service,-disabling the option to let the system turn off the device to save power,-installing drivers for the WLAN from Windows Update. NONE of the above worked. I'm quite sure it's not the router problem, since the internet works perfectly fine on other 3 computers at home (one is XP and 2 are Win7). I'm totally clueless here and extremely annoyed because I actually can't use my new laptop due to this issue... I'd probably consider using Win7 instead, though my main cau... Read more

Answer:Yet another problem with z580 on Windows 8

Unfortunately this sounds like the same problem we are all experiencing.  There is no fix and the work around is to roll back the drivers.  It is not possible to get power management and wifi working together.  So if you need wifi then you need to eliminate the power management. See http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/S205-Windows-8-wireless-problem/td-p/884375

Answer:Z580 Problem with windows 8 ?

Hi sahil210695,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I'm sorry to hear that after upgrading the OS (Operating System) to Windows 8 computer and its devices are not working as expected in the Z580 even after installing the drivers.

Bluetooth issue:
Check if the Bluetooth is ?Enabled? in BIOS, to get to BIOS press the NOVO button, Click Here and refer page no.2 to locate the NOVO button.

Note: To check how the BIOS menu looks and to explore its options Click Here.

Then in BIOS select ?Configuration? Tab and check if the BT is enabled, if not click on it to enable, then press ?F10? then YES to save the changes that is made in the BIOS.

 2. Wi-Di driver can be downloaded directly from the Intel as it will automatically scan your computer and provide the link to download the exact Wi-Di driver for the computer.

Click Here to visit the ?Intel Driver Update Utility? and select ?Check your system for updates?.

 3. Lenovo CapsLock and Numlock OSD Driver is only available and will work for Microsoft Windows 7.
 4. One Key Theatre will only work with the pre-installed OS and its application is not available for Windows 8.
 5. USB 3.0 driver is not required as per the Document ? Click Here.

NOTE: Please download the "Windows 8 Upgrade Advisor" to check if the devices in the compatible with the OS.

Hope this helps!!!

This is promised according to a paragraph at  the bottom of the webpage but does not include non Lenovo software like Disk burning suite (Power2Go etc).

Hi everyone! Been doing some research but couldn't find a solution to my concern.  I purchased an SSD that I want to use to boot windows 7 from in my 2012 z580, along with an ultrabay.  It seems like the general concensus is it's best to place the SSD in the main drive, and if I want to, place the HDD in the ultrabay.  My questions are: 1)  Would I be able to simple run the recovery partition that's factory installed on the current HDD to install windows 7 on the SSD, and be done with it all?  (Being able to use the SSD as my main boot and "C" drive, and the HDD as a media/storage drive) 2)  Can I take out the HDD, install the SSD, leave the optical bay in and do a clean install of windows?  My research seems like the key for my license is in the UEFI Bios.  And if so, then 3) would I have to reinstall all the drivers for my z580 to function? Thanks for all the help!

Hi, I have a Z580 with an HDD that is going through a life ending experience. At the current time it does not boot. Although I have salveged most of the data off of it I would like to boot it one more time, in order to clone it. I have tried the repair tools, but they are not working. My repair disk relates to Windows 8 so that may explain why it is not working. I have access to the msdn Windows 8.1 install. I attempted to use that to do a reset, but the reset function provides the message that "the media inserted is not valid" even though this is the x64 version of the disk. I am at a loss how to proceed. Any suggestions? Given how well eveything has not worked so far, I am reticent to do a complete reinstall till I have the product key off the BIOS, but all the notes I find on this subject relate to running windows apps to obtain this, clearly something I cannot do right now.  In terms of replacing the HDD, can I simply clone the working hdd (assuming I get it to work) and then just replace, or is there anything else I need to worry about. I have gone through the forum but most of the discussion appears to relate to pre-windows 8.1 OS. Thanks

Answer:Z580 DyingHDD, windows 8.1

You should be downloading the Win 8.1 64 bit standard or home version.  Your product key should be automatically detected if the OS originally installed is Win 8.1.As to other thing to worry about is the OKR program. It may no longer work after the cloning process.

Look for a snaptics Software and Lenovo Energy Management
and uninstall those two

Now download and install these drivers

Hello! I'm thinking about updating my laptop to 8.1. I already had some experience with RTM which was released on MSDN and it was pretty unstable, I had issues with power management, overheating and Bluetooth - all of these worked properly on 8. Is there anyone with Z580 (or similar) with 8.1 on it? I'd like to know if something improved since then.

Answer:Windows 8.1 on Z580 - opinions

I just upgraded to 8.1 It's nice to know that this big update released day after RTM fixes some stuff. Unfortunately, I still have issues with power management. It worked well on both 8, and Linux, but not here. I get only 4h of battery life and my discharge rate is constantly jumping between 10W and 20W - on 8 it was 7-12W. I think it could be an issue with GPU drivers, because I remember having 20W+ discharge rate when using NVidia GPU on Windows 8. Anyone else has this issue?

Hi! I have a Lenovo Z580 i5, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GT 630M.  I was running Windows 7 with good 5-6 hours battery but I've upgraded to Windows 8 (64bit) and ever since I'd be lucky to get even 1-2 hours running on battery. I've tried upgrading all of the drivers on the Lenovo site and the energy management is set for longest battery life, I can't get to the bottom of why it is happening. It seems the only option is to wipe the system and reinstall Windows 8 from scratch but I'd really rather not do that if possible. Any advice?

I have a Idea Pad Z580 laptop running on Windows 8.1 and want to change to Windows 7. This, I believe involves the UEF system which is running on GPT. This has to be changed to MBR. How does one do this? (legacy bios - MBR)
At the same time, I would like to install a new hard drive. This is an SSD. I am hoping that if I install a new SSD hard drive the computer will ask the question -  do I want GPT or MBR thus allowing me to install a fresh Windows 7 under MBR.
Many thanks

Answer:what is best windows for lenovo ideapad z580 ?

Hi jimrako,

This is really a tricky question because it depends on your hardware.

The best way I can think of answering this is by providing you the requirements for each then you can check against your requirements:

Windows 10:

RAM:
1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space:
16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

Graphics card:
DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Display:
800x600
Cons: a bit of a learning curve as it changes a lot

Windows 8

Processor: 1 GHz or faster processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: Without Touch it is not intuitive

Windows 7

Processor: 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
Memory(RAM): 1 GB of RAM (32-bit)/2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit)/20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics: DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver
Cons: None really, it is awesome

Windows XP

Processor: 233 MHz CPU
Memory(RAM): 64 MB of RAM (may limit performance and some features)
Hard Disk: 1.5 GB of available hard disk space
Graphics: Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
Cons: No longer supported by Microsoft

Again, this is my opinion, without a touch sc... Read more

I think that might be the reason that your bluetooth is not supported.

I have a Lenovo Z580 that came pre-installed with Windows 7.  I would like to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 without destroying any of the partitions so that if I do not like Windows 8.1 I can use the recovery feature to reinstall Windows 7 and all original drivers.  I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere in the forums.   I do understand that there is not a direct path to upgrade from Windows 7 to 8.1.  You have to upgrade to Windows 8 first.  However, I have never been a fan of OS upgrades.  I intend on doing a fresh 8.1 install.  My data is backed up.

Answer:Lenovo Z580 Upgrading From Windows 7 to 8.1

hi wwhsgrad2002,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you are planning to upgrade from Windows 7 and thinking about having a backup that would let you go back to WIndows 7 anytime,

If I were in your post, Since I still have Windows 7 I can use the One key Recovery 7 which still has the Create Recovery Disc option.

I would create a set of Recovery Disc then proceed with the upgrade,
It is hard to say that the recovery Option built to the hard drive may or may not have an issue after OS upgrades.

So while in Windows 7, Create you Windows 7 Recovery Disc then proceed with your upgrades.

I bought a z580 back in nov and after going to windows 8 the webcam doesnt work. I've reinstalled the drivers about 30 times with no luck. When I open skype the light come on but it just shows a constant loading image icon. when i use the youcam app it does the same thing. i've checked the drivers on both, uninstalled and reinstalled.. but no luck, any help would be much appreciated

Answer:z580 webcam not working after windows 8

Try this: 1) uninstall the drilvers. (restart if it asked)2) let windows install it's default drivers and see if that works.

I was tired of the green thing in the Energy Management (Win7 version) on Windows 8, like the brightness and volume indicators so changed it to blue Its a small visual mod, no harms. I made it and been using it myself, so thought of sharing it   http://www.mediafire.com/download/1r84pudbh04yrac/utility.rar Instructions:1> Go to Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\Energy Management2> Make a copy of the file "utility.exe"3> Copy the file from the downloaded archive4> Open taskmanager, end process "utility.exe"5> Paste the file in the Energy Management folder, replace the existing file, make sure the backup is safe6> Double click on the new "utility.exe" to run the program again Now the indicators and the black background in volume, brightness, thermal management (crescent touch button above keyboard), mute, camera activate/deactivate, touchpad activate/deactivate will be blue To revert back to original, open taskmanager, end process "utility.exe", delete the file from EM folder, bring back the backed up file, double click on it to start the program.  I am not sure if it runs properly on Win7 (x86 & x64) and Win8 (x86), so if you try and its working please let me know

Hi everyone, i updated my Ideapad from Windows 8 to 8.1 (with windows store), and after the process i noted a lot of problems:1) i can't control screen's brightness, loked to the maximal levels (i tried with the normal buttons and also in the control panel, installed the previous version of intel HD graphics and again the new, but nothing)2) wifi connection (always problematic) does not work anymore at home, but in university yes... (i tried here too reinstalling drivers)3) the center of the bottom of the notebook gets hot in a few minutes (maybe where is the graphic chip)4) one key recovery does'n work, so the backup i've done the first day with my computer isn't usableif anyone can help me...

Answer:windows 8.1 problems on Ideapad z580

i mean, i used an external hdd to save the backup, ut one key didn't save me an iso, but a lot of progressive files (i think binary) so when i try to restore the os in the advanced system configuration, it tells me that there isn't any image. i gust want to get back my pc, and i'm getting crazy with this brightness

I got taken in by all of the messages from Microsoft insisting that my computer was fully compatible and that I should upgrade to Windows 10. It never dawned on me that I should have checked the Lenovo website first to be sure. After the upgrade I noticed two things: (1) the system seemed to be working pretty well, and (2) I couldn't find Dolby Home Theater v4 (one of my absolute favorite programs). When I finally looked at the Lenovo website I found the following page with the heading, "Dolby Home Theater does not work after Windows 10 upgrade" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht104006).When I checked the "Windows 10 upgrade supported list" (https://support.lenovo.com/documents/ht103535), as the page instructs, I saw that Ideapad Z580 wasn't on it. The page goes on to say that if your machine isn't on the list, "drivers have not been updated for that machine, and Lenovo does not recommended an upgrade to Windows 10." The page continues with possible solutions, but does it make sense to even try them? Then I found another page on the Lenovo site entitled, "Windows 10 Upgrade Guide - IdeaPad and Lenovo Notebook" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103611). The news here wasn't any better. It says, "The following listed computer models include hardware components not fully compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, upgrading these models to Windows 10 is not recommended." Unfortunately, Z580 is on this list.So there are, according to Lenovo, software and hardwar... Read more
