I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good time of day! I'm sorry if this was already covered somewhere, my searching skills must be failing me as I haven't found anything close. My problem is as follows: I've installed Win10 from scratch (not updated, installed, via USB + MS Media Creation Tool). Partition is still GPT, just like it was with preinstalled win8 when I bought the notebook. But now, after installing everything and when everything works fine, there's some small problems left. Whenever I hibernate PC after trying to turn it on again it gets stuck on lenovo splash screen, and even without loading animation going. I tried to counter it with putting PC to sleep, but for some reason it wakes up when I carry it in my backpack, and I fear that one day it'll just fry itself if it'll turn itself on and I won't notice in time. So since I have problems with both sleep and hibernate modes I decided to search answers on both, and started off here with my hibernation problem. I can add all the needed info on request. Thank you for your answer beforehand ^_^

I noticed my laptop was running hot which usually only does when I'm playing CPU intensive work like playing games or rendering something. I checked on task manager to find the culprit to be runtime broker using up 25% of my CPU nonstop. From what I've learned googling the subject, runtime errors come up due to faulty programs causing memory leaks. I've never had that problem before in windows 8 and technically I haven't installed a new program in windows 10. Anybody knows what might be causing this? Context: z500, Newly upgraded windows 10, using spotify and bluetooth speakers. Other program used were only MS edge, Google Chrome, Adobe Reader DC, and MS OneNote. Laptop was turned on for hours but I restart from time to time. Errors encountered was the annoying Graphics Card has crashed and successfully recovered error when coming back from sleep (to which I have found no solutions since Windows 8)tl;drAre there any known issues that might cause memory leaks and increase CPU activity of runtimebroker.exe to 25%.?

Answer:Ideapad Z500 Touch downgrade from win10 to win8 or 7

"...I was looking option to downgrade through Onekey Rescue System, But I am confuse here as I don't have OS back up in cd/dvd or anything. Can i do without it?" Comment: A copy of the Win 8 including all programs from the factory is place in a hidden partition of the hdd. You need OneKey Recovery program to access it and be able to restore the unit to factory consition. "...if I make copy of OS now, which OS will be backup Win8 or Win10 (current using)?" Comment: First of all how will you do the copy? If it is in Win 10 then you will have a Win 10 backup. That is after the upgrade to Win 10 you will not be able to make a backup through OKR but in Win 10 only.

Didnt even check this before upgrading to Win10, but does the M93p tiny even support DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD ? I am using a DP > HDMI which shouldnt cause an issue but have tested with  HDMI > HDMI. Here is the long story. The DP interface appears to be using some Microsoft High Definition Audio Device driver for the audio and only shows DTS Audio, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus, however lists the correct bit depths and sample rates for the HD formats which happens to be 'more' than my other PC that can do DTS HD MA and DD TrueHD. Disabling the Microsoft driver disables the entire playback device, which is the same output receiver device as my other PC. just to say that both M93p tiny and my normal PC are going through the same amplifier to the same flat panel. When pulling the cable from the PC that can do full HD audio and plugging into the m93p tiny, there is no audio going to the amp at all, picture is fine. Plug back into original PC and audio works fine. indicator m93p tiny audio problems. As when using the DP, the HDMI when using the realtek HD Audio driver pushes all audio out to the internal speaker inside the m93p tiny box the flat panel receiver (passing through my amp) says its not plugged in, clearly it is and picture is showing, just no sound. so i went to Lenovo site and installed the latest Win10 audio drivers and codecs.no changeswent to the Realtek site and downloaded their latest drivers from june???no changes... Hi all, I have Acer VN7-591G that runs win 8. I have a problem with audio. Whenever I navigate into some options related to mic, my audio almost mutes. I noticed that Dolby Digital Plus just turns off. If I turn it on manually -- everything becomes fine. So to reproduce this problem I can do several things: go to Skype->Audio settings or open Recording Devices with right click on my mixer, or go to any application's settings with microphone (like in any online game), or start a call via Skype with anyone. Also that happens with multiple applications: I can start Spotify after KMPlayer is already playing something and one of sources will be almost muted. I assume that I don't have Cortana, so that solution doesn't work for me. Did anyone have/fix this problem? Thanks

Hello i have encountered an annoying bug in Windows 8.1,the store charm menu, and pc settings will not work sometimes. I can open the menu, but if i try to click on anything it wont work. But when i try to use the keyboard to press and enter it will sometimes open the program but it wont let me use the mouse click.  I have noticed some other slow-downs and stuff, so i am trying a one-key rescue restore after backing up all my documents.   I tried some fixes for this store menu problem but none of them helped, although app troubleshooter would fix it but everytime i restarted it would happen again.

We got users with "clean install" Windows 10 on the ThinkPad Yoga 370 instead of factory image.  in Lenovo Settings, audio, dolby section, the presets that are in OEM load are all missing.  we tried uninstall Lenovo Settings, Conexant audio driver, SIF, reinstall, same things - the enable button is there, but no profiles for dynamic, movie, music, gaming, and voice. anyone have seen this issue (or on other machines?), any idea how to reinstall those?  i wonder whether we are missing some pieces.

Hi,I'm now using Ideapad Z510. After upgraded to Windows 8.1. I'd went to the Lenovo website searching for new driver update. But, after i install the "Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.1.7023", the "Dolby Home Theater V4" is not running(audio sound not playing through). And, the "Dolby Digital Plus" is running instead of "Dolby Home Theater V4".Then, when I try to reinstall the older version "Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.1.6954" from Lenovo website, the "Dolby Home Theater V4" is running again.Truly, the "Dolby Digital Plus"'s sound is crisper and louder than "Dolby Home Theater V4". But the sound of "Dolby Home Theater V4" has more bass and more function (like Graphic Equalizer, more Intelligent Equalizer etc.).Is this an update or what? What should I choose? The newer driver (for Windows 8.1) or older driver (for Dolby Home Theater V4)?  Thanks. Has anyone come up with a way to install the Dolby Digital Plus on the Conexant based systems? I really need the improved audio for my softphone ASAP.

Thanks.

Hi,    i just bought a laptop Lenovo T530 which came with Dolby Advanced Audio v2 with Realtek audio drivers. When i turned it on, the sound was pretty bad as there were no preset equalizer profiles, I however had the options for Games, Movies, Music but those settings were all kept to normal. I'm no audio expert, so i couldnt create new profiles and set the equalizer settings myself because even when i tried, the sound did'nt help much. So i got to know that Dolby Home Theatre v4 has lot of options and even some preset equalizer settings too. Now my question is how to upgrade from Dolby AA v3 to Dolby HT v4. I downloaded the realtelk audio drivers from lenovo support site, uninstalled my realtek audio driver and dolby AAC, deleted the Dolby folder in the registry. I then installed the downloaded Realtek audio driver for my model and again the Dolby AAC was back , I uninstalled Dolby AAC and tried to install the Dolby HT v4.msi which i found in the PCEE folder of the installation. But i get an error when running the installation that Dolby HT cannot be installed. Any idea on how to solve this?

So I'm wondering how I can get the trackpad to behave the way it did in Win7, with scrolling being controlled by one finger on the side and bottom of the trackpad, instead of a 2 finger gesture in the center. It seems like I have all the settings set properly, however it hasn't changed. Am I missing something?

Answer:How do I change the trackpad settings in Win10?

You need to install a proper Windows 10 compatible driver for your trackpad.
Windows 7 drivers most likely won't work, Windows 8/8.1 drivers might work in some cases but might also behave erratically.

Hi
I want to know something. Does win10 save PC settings (control panel and system panel) with Microsoft account? I am asking this as i have come across some windows problems and i am going to run recovery. Obviously it will bring the system to factory settings and i had set the settings to my own liking within control panel and system panel. I wanted to know if i run recovery and then login with Microsoft account which was already login, will the settings change as i set them or not?

Answer:win10 settings with recovery installation

Hi, if this is the procedure you mean, it tells you what happens:
Recover Windows 10 from a Recovery Drive - Windows 10 Forums

(I don't know if you're aware of disk imaging, strongly recommended here. Using this can help avoid time consuming clean installs and recovery etc and reinstalling all programs.... If you routinely create and update your images (compressed copied of your disks/partitions) you can easily restore them to quickly get your PC back to a previously working state when you have problems- even a failed drive. Also a full backup, and can help you move to a new PC.

E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage for the images).

Not ruling out commercial products, what success has anyone had using programs that migrate files and settings between, say a Win7 system and a new Win10 system? Not necessarily an upgrade, possibly a new system entirely. I understand Microsoft's Easy Transfer is no longer available in Win10.

Files may be scattered throughout the drive, not necessarily all in the Documents, Pictures or Music folders. Settings may be for applications such as Office, browser favorites/bookmarks, etc. Possibly for multiple profiles.

We may be looking at this on an ongoing basis, so manually doing it could become exceedingly tedious. Has anyone, maybe, seen a PowerShell script that might do this?

After a succesfull upgrade from WIN7 to WIN10 on my Laptop, I now try to
install WIN10 on a Desktop Pc and that causes me a problem.

When I upgraded the Laptop from WIN7 to WIN10, all my applications and settings
were kept during the upgrading process and 2 hours after I started the upgrade,
the laptop was working as usual (but on WIN10 now)

However, when I try to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10, I am not able to keep all programs and settings.
I am only given the option to do a clean install, where afterwards I will have to re-install, setup
and customize all my applications.

For both upgrades I used the same 4GB USB stick that contains the bootable WIN10 installation files.
This USB stick was created with the Media Creation Tool.

Here is what I did.

- Boot from the WIN10 bootable USB stick

- Then (after a while) the panel with the 3 questions shows up
* Language to install: HERE I CAN ONLY SELECT "English (United States)
As this suits me fine, I keep this selection

* Time and Currency format: Here I get plenty of options
I selected "Dutch"

Hello, I'm using Lenovo Z50-70 with Windows 10 and since the new audio driver, Dolby Home Theater v4 had been replaced with Dolby Digital Plus. I honestly don't like the sound of Dolby Digital Plus and I would like to replace it with the older version for the quality of sound. On the Lenovo site doesn't provide old driver versions and I was looking, but I did not find one.I would be grateful if someone helps me.

Answer:How to replace Dolby digital Plus with Dolby Home ...

The best option is to revert to an earlier date using system restore. This is what i found, different model, but it may workhttp://support.lenovo.com/gr/el/downloads/ds027444

I'm asking out of curiosity more then anything, since Windows Update has a heading saying "Some settings are managed by your system administrator". I'm just curious if someone's already found a way around that, lol, or if it's somehow hardcoded in the Tech Preview.

Answer:Can I change Windows Update settings in Win10?

Well, you can search "Windows Update" in the Start Menu. Click the result so the usual Windows Update app pops up. From there, you can setup the settings. You can also access WinUpdate from the Control Panel too.

Greetings.
After some troubble with a few games and settings, I installed windows 10 pro on a SSD. I then got this list, which I was told to use as my PC is mainly a gamer-PC.
Can you recommend me to use this list complete, or is it "too much"?
I really can't see why I should get a local account instead of my Microsoft account on my PC because of problems with a game?? I would really like to get some feedback to this, as I think it is a bit overwhelming to do so much.

The list:

I hear a lot of people experiencing all kinds of issues after each Windows 10 Creator update.
I never had any problems with any of the updates. And I came to conclusion that perhaps
there are a few things that might be causing this issue.
Nr.1: Windows Fast Startup. Disabling it resolves a lot of issues. You can disable it by
navigating to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\System Settings and
removing check-mark from "Turn on fast startup (recommended)".
Nr.2: Power Options - set to High Performance to let the CPU run on full capacity at all times
rather than let it throttle. Helps with performance in games and prevents CPU from throttling.
Nr.3: General things to do after you install a fresh copy of Windows (in essence remove all the
Telemetry Garbage that Microsoft forces by default):
First, do not login to your computer with Microsoft Account. If you already did then disable
Microsoft Account and create a Local Account.
Type "Privacy" in Search Windows.

When I start up my computer the lock screen shows 2 accounts. One has just my name, which Im trying to remove because it default tries to log into. The second is my microsoft @live account which Ive used from day one. When I go into accounts it shows I have 1 account on this computer, its the one I use @live to sign in. Really confusing and Im not sure that to do.

Answer:Win10 has 2 log in options. Account settings shows only 1.

That account would be a Local account, did you ever at any time change the name of it? That might be why it is showing up and trying to take over default. I originally had a Local account, when I added my MS account, it changed the Local account type to the MS type.

Take a look in your User Profiles, the original name of the account will be listed there:

Make sure you have only one profile listed, if you have more than one, you'll have to figure out which one is attached to your MS account. Also, if you did ever change your account name, that could have caused this. You can't really ever change your account name, the best you can do is create a new account with the name you want, and delete the other User while saving your local files.

I created a local account, but I immediately created an MS account and it changed the local file names to reflect the change. I also use an Administrator account, but I can choose either one at the Lockscreen. Whichever one I choose, becomes the default next time I log in. But all you have to do is log into the MS account and it will switch back the next time.

I come across this all the time when repairing machines, instead of making a new account with the desired name, they change the name of the local account to a new name, which futzes up the whole profile, so that you use the new name to log in, but the profile is stored in a User folder with the old original name. This really messes with programs, sometimes links will be lo... Read more

I have win10 running beautifully after hours of configuring on my main computer, now I want to put win10 on 2 of my 3 other computers, is there a way to sync win10 so I don't have to spend additional hours configuring the other two computers like the first one?

Thanks

Answer:can win10 settings be synced on multiple computers

Hello TC,

Yes. If you sign in to PCs using the same Microsoft account, you will be able to turn on/off the items you want to be synced with those PCs.

Hello
I'm currently troubleshooting a new issue with a friends laptop running Windows 10 64-bit (Asus N501JW i7 , 16GB RAM, BIOS is up to date). The laptop was turned off for a period of 10 days during Xmas vacation (12/18/17). Upon restart and a recent Windows update (1/7/18) the user noted that the display settings page when accessed caused the laptop to go into an unrecoverable freeze. The mouse will move, but no clicking functions. I have confirmed this behavior and also noted that when accessing the sound functions from the task bar caused the same result. I started the system in Safe Mode and replicated the same steps, no freezes were seen.
I have updated the display drivers (Nvidia G4600) to the latest. No other drivers were out of data. The laptop has had NO new updates or hardware added. This is a very basic user who does their day to day home accounting and internet browsing. The laptop was scanned by two different AV and malware applications and is clean. The AV is Norton 360, is up to date.
If anyone has any tips to troubleshoot this please let me know. I'm really trying to avoid rebuilding this system,
Thanks

Hi all, got a problem that is annoying the h*ll out of me.My Yoga 3 Pro recently did some windows 10 updates, and since this happened it now goes to sleep after a short period of time irrespective of the Windows power settings. It does this whether it is on battery or on charge, no settings seem to have any effect.I have tried all the usual solutions/fixes found by searching on the net including resetting the power/sleep modes to default; uninstalling/reinstalling OKO and the Windows updates; updating all the drivers to the latest versions available.None of these have sorted the problem, so if anybody out there has any ideas - please let me know! System info: Yoga 3 Pro 1370, Intel 5Y70 CPU, running Windows 10 Home V1607 Build 14393.321 (upgraded from Win8.1 approx. 6 months ago) TIASteve

thats about it. thought the update went well (except for a Defender issue), but then noticed wifi networks not showing up, only the ethernet. Then i noticed that there is no wifi option in the network action center, or the menu in the network settings. Looked for fixes... tried a vpn-related fix from other win updates, tried a gpedit trick, removing the net devices and rebooting, looking for software update, restarting explorer, and more.

I'm about ready to roll back the update. Hoping some new updaters will have the same problem and there will be a fix for it.

Installed a chinese application earlier called Kuwo Music Player. I have been using this particular application for quite some time and today is the first occasion where I decided to give it a go on Windows 10 too. Then came the problem, I realised that the settings to change the system locale ( this is necessary otherwise the chinese characters cannot be displayed) is no longer where it was in Windows 7/8. I too couldn't find any helpful results on the Internet. So hopefully someone knows where I can find and change that setting, or any other working solution would do. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I upgraded from Win8 to Win10 last year. In Win8 and all previous versions I have used, it was possible to go into the language/regional settings of the control panel and set a special hotkey combination that would change the keyboard layout to the language of your choice. For example, you could set the keystroke "ctrl + 1" to change the keyboard layout to Spanish, "ctrl + 2" to change it to French, and so on.

Win10 does not seem to have this feature, or at least not in the place where it existed before: when I go to "Settings -> Time and Language -> Region and Language", and then click on one of the languages that I have installed, there is no longer any option to set a hotkey combination for that language. Instead, you have to use "alt + shift" to scroll through the installed keyboard layouts until you hit the one you want -- which is fine if you have only one or two layouts installed, but inconvenient if (like me) you have several layouts installed and frequently switch between them.

Can anyone confirm whether this hotkey feature has been completely removed from Win10, or is it still available somewhere that I am not aware of?

Thanks,ML

Answer:language hotkey settings: no longer present in Win10?

Hello, as regards the keyboard, Windows key + space toggles the options you have set up. Mouseover the input method icon to see this as a tooltip.

Really Microsoft needs to reconsider the whole Win10 update philosophy.. We will now take remedial action so that updates will no longer be applied as the the result can cause severe business issues.

Yesterday, were we performing a system clean up which does necessitate reboots - we also took the precaution of deferring updates for 3 days. However Microsoft knows best and went to do a major upgrade.

First this wasted a lot of time as in effect the system which acts as a server was unavailable for over an hour which in itself is intolerable. Secondly and more critically the upgrade changed/reset the network settings.

These events cause a business risk, so we will now stop all Windows updates, Windows updates for us now is a bigger risk than being infected with malware, we have backups and redundancy but we cannot allow Microsoft to do as they please. Frankly Microsoft's vision is grossly misplaced - whoever dreamed this up should be removed from office.

Ok i come across alot of problems lately
Every time i do clean installation its degraded somewhat.
The idea is to make my laptop run as good as it gets with those capabilities it have etc.
My problem is that since yesterday i didnt know that OS remembers settings in firewall even if u do clean install and who knows what settings it saves on microsoft cloud which makes this a problem
Yes i know how to do a clean install and pllenty of more but my system is off i can feel it somehow.
I did clean install yesterday but before that i was messing alot with windows settings like port forwarding, firewall settings u name it.
Now since i got this laptop it was perfect and every clean installation was perfect until yeterday.
Main problem is that my browser didnt download files like they used to becuase of policy and attachment in register which system scan for viruse during donwload task. Yes the value is usually off when u do a clean installation which is value 1 or maybe 0 i didnt check that before until yesterday. Now it was a pain to find what was the issue about download problem. That means no previous settings over cloud, no firewall leftovers, no leftovers what so ever from nowhere.

I'd like to apologise in advance as this is probably completely newb to many of you.

On the newegg page at the bottom of the review tab dated 8/25/2015 12:06:28 PM, Anonymous author stated:

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure if other OEM's have this feature, but the UEFI BIOS allows you to exclusively enable your boot drive, so you can have multiple drives with distinct OS's, and when you choose to boot one, the others are auto-disabled.

My Windows 10 boot SSD is GPT format while my Windows 7 boot SSD is MBR format with System reserved partition so IDK if this is even possible for dual booting?

I don't get where the the settings on "exclusively enable and auto disable" are and how to apply them...

Can anyone show screenshots of the settings to enable safe dual booting?

Fast BootEnables or disables Fast Boot to shorten the OS boot process. Ultra Fast provides the fastest bootup speed. (Default: Disabled)
SATA Support
>>All Sata Devices All SATA devices are functional in the operating system and during the POST. (Default)
>>Last Boot HDD Only Except for the previous boot drive, all SATA devices are disabled before the OS boot process completes.

This item is configurable only when Fast Boot is set to Enabled or Ultra Fast.

Wouldn't this create a palava when trying to choose which OS to boot given Fast boot disables accessing BIOS with the Del key after posting?

My X1 Yoga 2nd Gen came early, on the 25th. Everything is great, the OLED screen is great, but before the Win10 1703 update, every time it came out of sleep, the brightness was 100%. Indicators were all still at 50% (my normal setting). Moving any of the brightness controls restored the setting. The 1703 update just finished, and the "wake from sleep @ 100% brightness" problem seems to be fixed. However, the Color Setting (Native | Standard | Photo Pro | Movie Pro | Blue Light Cut) modes don't seem to be working anymore. Doesn't matter if I change the settings with a right click on the desktop menu "Select Color Setting" or use the Lenovo Settings App's Display tab. The setting I make tracks between the desktop menu and the Lenovo Settings app, just nothing changes on the OLED screen. Any suggestions?  Thanks!

So just got the new update to Windows 10 (1709), and the same problem with Color Settings has reared it's head again. The Color Setting (Native | Standard | Photo Pro | Movie Pro | Blue Light Cut) modes don't seem to be working anymore. Doesn't matter if I change the settings with a right click on the desktop menu "Select Color Setting" or use the Lenovo Companion App's Display tab. The setting I make tracks between the desktop menu and the Lenovo Settings app, just nothing changes on the OLED screen. This is the same thing that happened with the last update to Wind 10 (1703), and the fix was given to us by Rydeen at Lenovo in the  Select-Color-Settings-Not-Working-on-X1-YOGA-OLED thread. Short form is to uninstall the Lenovo System Interface Foundation and then re-install it. The trouble is you can't follow the instructions that Rydeen gave anymore. (1) There is no more ?Lenovo System Interface Foundation? so it can't be un-installed. Which sort of makes #2 moot, but none the less, (2) click ?Lenovo Settings? to launch and you will be prompted to install ?Lenovo System Interface Driver?. Except there is no more Lenovo Settings; it was absorbed by Lenovo Companion and doesn't work anymore (and Lenovo Settings tells you to uninstall it). So Rydeen (or anyone else ), what is the current "fix" for the problem? I'd like my Color Settings to work again. (Also, a new version of Netflix was installed with the 1709 Win update, and the fl... Read more

I have loads of valuable info/files/3d party apps on my Win10 Home ver. & I'm considering doing a reset of the OS to ensure I have a clean environment.

However, I don't want to lose my 3d party apps & their data i.e. Adobe Lightroom's Catalog.

Howdy:

Looking for guidance on optimal settings for new Dell system before I fire it up (specs in my profile).

This is my first Win10 system and my first desktop, "production box" PC with dual drives (SSD (OS) + spinner (data)) and UEFI.

I have read the many fabulous (!) tutorials on "fast start", "fast boot", "secureboot", "hibernation", "Advanced Boot Options", "power" and "UEFI firmware".
But I am a nearly-silver-surfer and an auto-didact, when it comes to computers.
So I still have questions based on the new hardware and OS, compared to Win 7 with HDD.
And I'm not 100% sure of the default settings for some of these under Win 10, so I don't know what needs to be tweaked.

My main priorities are system stability and prolonging the life of the SSD, rather than "performance" (e.g. ultra-fast boot).
A few seconds longer to boot from a cold start is fine, as long as that does not cause excessive SSD wear.I do not game, Skype or even stream videos -- mostly "productivity apps" (Office, Acrobat, Photoshop, Snagit) work, streaming radio, internet, email. My current Win7 desktop power settings are: display (screen saver after 10 min, off after 20 min) and hard drive sleep (never).I have seen it mentioned that some 3rd-party AVs need a full, cold "shutdown", rather than "fast start" in order to fully set some of their patches/updates/features. Meaning I installed Windows 10 letting the installer take care of everything.

Install the OS and any drivers then run winsat formal in an admin command prompt, reboot, and Windows will set the system up for your SSD and any HDDs you have.

I do recommend keeping Fast Start, in settings app, turned off, , as I have had problems with some tiles such as Mail & Calendar refreshing/updating, and FilePendingRename need a restart or complete shutdown & boot to make any changes to system files. The SSD will boot fast enough.

In Bios keep Secure & Fast boot on.

Do not worry about writes, the newer SSDs will probably outlast your MOBO these days
Only obvious thing(and I know you already do this MM) back up all data,
because when a SSD goes to hell, the data is totally unrecoverable, as opposed to a HDD, where if you're lucky, some might be saved.

All tweaks are totally unnecessary, as Windows 8-10 makes system settings for EACH disk independent of the other, for example Prefetch is automatically turned off for SSDs, but on for the HDDs in a mixed build.

I have a z500 (non-touch) that recently had its screen broken. I plan to purchase the LCD part and replace it myself. I was wondering if I could purchase the part(s) for the z500 touch and give myself touchscreen capabilities as well.Is such a solution possible? If so, what  parts might I need to purchase to make such a solution work? Thanks,  -Ben C.

Answer:Replace z500 screen with z500 touch screen?

HiWelcome to the forum and Happy New year!!This in all probabilities won't work.Reason: Touch devices have an extra glass touch layer over the lcd and both the touch and the lcd are distinctively attached to the main circuit/systemboard of the device/laptop/mobile/tablets.So, firstly, your mainboard should atleast have a port to attach a touch glass and secondly, the structure of the laptop should support it too.So, in my opinioin, it is a suicidal move and you should try it.Hope this Helps.Regards

OK, maybe this was really stupid. I had a 32GB flash drive formatted with the Win10 media upgrade image on it (bootable). I was going to use it to upgrade another system but in the meantime I wanted to copy some programs between two systems. I inserted the flash drive into my previously installed Windows 10 laptop which was running flawlessly for 5 weeks and setup using the D: user profile setup (autorun move of profiles to D post install step).

So now after I inserted the flash drive it appeared like my current windows 10 system was trying to reinstall windows 10 again, I didn't realize anything would happen simply by plugging in the flash drive. So I aborted the "getting windows ready" but now I can login to the system but have an error dialog:

C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. Hi Scott and welcome to Tenforums.

Are you able to do a System Restore? Or, was that not turned on?

If not, perhaps a repair install might do the trick:

Hi,
My disk contains 5 partitions:
part1 = ntfs-win10 free upgrade of win home premium (primary)
Part2 = ntfs-win7 home premium (primary)
Part3 = ext3-Extended (logical)
Part4 = ext3-LM rafaela (extended)
Part5 = swap (extended)
This setup worked good.

Part2 win7 got buggered, and reinstalled (nvidia chip-set melt down during win7 boot). The MB was replaced.

I can no longer get to win10 boot Part1. Booting to Part1 or Part2 results to booting the newly installed win7. Rafaela boot did not change: still working.

How can I reclaim my win10 boot? I can't upgrade for free anymore so I'm hoping there's a way to work with what's there.

Thanks,
Keith

Answer:Lost Win10 in Multiboot disk partition Win7, Win10 and LM Rafaela

You could use EasyBCD to add Win10 to the boot code.
EasyBCD Documentation

Take care not to screw up the Linux entry.
I'm pretty sure EasyBCD makes a backup - but it's been quite a while.

Read first, plan 2nd, backup the BCD store - then execute the plan

Hi everyone,

 - Start with Vista 64-bit SP2 on PC with two drives - OS on Disk0 - working fine for years
 - Downloaded Win10 64-bit English-International ISO image from MS on 23 March
 - Installed on Disk1 as Home edition on 24 March
All works fine with dual boot Vista/Win10

 - Win10 Update arrived on 25 March (I think Win10 Cumulative Upate, but can't be sure)
 - Update installed with Shut Down on 25 March
Now fails at dual-boot time:
  PC/Device needs to be repaired
Required device isn't connected or can't be accessed
  Error code:  0xc000000e

Fortunately F9 boots Vista correctly.  I conclude that either the dual-boot is messed up OR it recognises that the Win10 OS is messed up.
I'm a hesitant to go further without expert advice as I'd hate to mess up the Vista possibilty ! ! !

Many thanks for any help - David

Hi,I transferred (cut and paste) a very important video that I took this morning via USB cable from Samsung Galaxy Edge 7 to Win 10 Pc. I played it once on Win10 and went away from PC. When I came back the file was gone. I can see the link in "recent documents" on PC but it says that file dos not exist. It is not in recycling bin. I have tried recovery software on both phone and PC but they could not find it. Does anyone know if Win10 or Samsung Galaxy Edge 7 keeps a cache or temp file of videos played or have any other recovery ideas? I have tried System Restore Point but there are no points available to restore from and my phone was not backed up since 2016. I know, very bad of me. Any other ides as to how to get the video back would be great. And why did Win10 delete this video?ThanksJ

Answer:Win10 deleted video. Does Win10 keep in cache temp folder? Restore op?

Hi, it depends if you actually saved the file on your PC's disk. I don't know how you accessed it to play it. I would have thought the shortcut you can see will tell you the location used.

If you did, then normally it should still be there as you expect.

System Restore is completely irrelevant- that does NOT back up data. It deals with system files, updates, drivers and the registry.

My machine has two boot volumes. vol3 (win7 now win10) and vol5 (win8 tp10).
After automatic upgrade of win7p to Win10p(64) on vol3, all appeared to be well. It activated just fine (good network) and Edge and Chrome work fine. However, IE11, FireFox, Thunderbird, iolo SystemMechanic, Netgear Pro Switch config, MSI Live Update and maybe many more have no access to sockets.
I disabled the Firewall and Defender!
I loaded sysinternals TCPView and observed that both Edge and Chrome open/close ports and reach endpoints but none of the "apps of interest" reach the IP stack on the upgrade 10.
The TP 10 on vol5 is my litmus test.. IE11, FF, TB and Netgear all work on this install. A lot to be said for a clean install.
I used hijackthis to compare the two installs.. the TP10 generates a 1 page report and the ug10 3 pages.. lots of leftovers..
My diagnostic tree is getting shorter. Anyone have anything to add?
David

Answer:Win10 TP AOK, Win7 > Win10 soso. IE11 has no tcpip access...

Now because I read in some forum someone did not like "thank you its fixed" answers.
So...
Hijackthis revealed excessive duplicate LSP entries for SpeedBit Video Accelerator.
LSPfix did not find any problems, but did show the offending LSP entry.
After uninstalling SpeedBit and rebooting;
Bing change my wallpaper and I knew the issue was resolved. IE11 etc. work as expected.

Thankyou

I hope somebody can either explain to me what I'm missing or point me to an explanation.

I have two 256 Gig SSDs on which I'd loaded different operating systems but virtually identical applications. One was Windows 8.1 and one was Windows 7. They were interchangeable -- all I had to do was shut down, remove one SSD and replace it with the other, boot into BIOS, ensure BIOS would boot from the new drive, and off to the races.

In addition to the SSD I have four 3-Tb hard drives in my desktop setup. Either of the OS installations would identify the drives nicely along with their partitions. No problems with the additional hard drives.

Then I decided to upgrade the Win8.1 installation to Win10. After backing up Win8.1 with Acronis True Image, I let Microsoft do its thing and pretty soon I was running Win10 and everything was great. All my applications, well, nearly all, survived the transformation with drivers intact and they're running just as well as before. I've never experienced an upgrade from one OS to another that went so smoothly. And I like Win10, especially now that I have it looking almost like my Win7 installation. It works the same but it truly seems peppier. I'm happy. Or I was...

This morning I decided to see whether a clean installation would work even better than the upgrade -- maybe I wouldn't get those annoying delays sometimes when starting Windows (File) Explorer. Maybe I would stop seeing the occasional long delay when starting an applicatio... Read more

How to get bootable DVD with working Windows 10 OS ?

Windows 8.1 Pro paid to Microsoft and used for a while.

Miscrosoft updated it to Windows 10.

Windows 10 automatic updates "worked" reasoble until 17th of January 2017.

The latest automatic Windows 10 updates failed as follows:
- yes, I can move mouse and see cursor on both two screen
- no, I can not see anything helping, just the famous circle telling nothing
- no, I can not get it restart, reboot, power off/on does not help

I would not want to install Window 8.1 Pro because Windows 10 worked until 17 January 2017! Ub
Can't utilize no restore points!unti)

Just got a P70 XEON and just need to vent some frustrations about it. It could be so perfect but it is not! 1. Display Drivers / Non-Optimal Optimus - crashes when moving video windows around. Did such a bad crash Win10 disabled BOTH Intel and NVidia Driver... and reverted to Win10 Basic Video driver.... 2. Display Drivers - if built in LCD is not the PRIMARY Windows display - you can't play full screen video on other screens 3. Workstation Dock - that was really designed by someone who does not use MULTIPLE DISPLAYs. Can we please have 3-5 independent monitor outputs on the next dock please? 4. My Windows install will not show parts of the "New settings panels" - I think mine used to be a Win7 inplace upgraded to Win10. Tried every trick in the book to fix it but no go so far. Then went on to try and download recovery media - but that service is CLOSED for Maintenance FROM LENOVO for the entire weekend. Great thanks... 5. NVidia activity display / task bar icon - rarely works... Apart from the long road ahead on reinstalling Win10 - I do like the P70 - but it could have been designed by better designers for REAL multi screen usage. All the above rants are only about things I have batteled to fix.... Everything else (like no sound on first installation) I have managed to solve. Rest I have spent MANY hours trying to fix. All drivers/firmware etc. are LATEST available from Lenovo. /rant /vent over for now.

I'm still playing with Win10 on a tablet and not ready to install it on my main computer. Meanwhile, there are 32 Windows 7 updates pending. I've selected all 32 in Windows Update, then clicked the OK button, but that just takes me to a screen for installing Win10. I'm not sure what happens if I click OK there, but it looks like clicking OK will install Win10 which I do NOT want to do. I just want to install the 32 Win7 updates.

I did notice that one of the optional updates was the Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and that the checkbox to install it was pre-checked. I did uncheck it but I still got the screen that said "Downloading Windows 10".

Is it possible that I'm safe to proceed after seeing the "Downloading Windows 10" message as long as I made sure to uncheck the Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro checkbox?

I have several laptops at home, and am trying to connect to an SSH connection at work for networking. To be fair, I am an idiot and had a techie friend of mine set everything up, however:

At home, on the same wireless network on the same router, I have three computers:

Laptop #1: Win10 Home (recently updated), connects via a script to my work network creating an SSH connection, and I can then log in with Windows Remote Desktop connection 100%. Works perfect.

Laptop #2: Win10 Pro (recently updated), connects via the same script to my work network via the same SSH connection - however Windows Remote Desktop connection times out and fails to connect.

Laptop #3: Win7 Pro (all appropriate updates), connects via the same script to my work network via the same SSL connection - again Windows Remote Desktop connection times out and fails to connect.

On computers #2 and #3, I have tried shutting off Windows firewall (no effect) and I've also tried following several tutorials on the web and on tenforums to get the Windows Remote Desktop to work. I've also followed the sticky (*** How I Fixed My Missing Network & Homegroup Computers *** ) at the top of this forum and everything is started and on automatic - EXCEPT for one: I cannot get Home Group Provider to start. In either case, I am not using home group stuff to connect so I expect this is a tangent. Answer:Remote Desktop Connection: Win10 Home vs Win10 Pro?

As far as I know, the only difference remote desktop wise, between Home and Pro is you can only remote desktop into Pro. Home can only remote desktop into anther PC, it won't accept incoming connections. I'm no network expert by any means though. Does it matter if your network is set to Public or Private? Public has some restrictions for file and print sharing and network discovery. Not sure if it helps but its all I have to offer at the moment. I've only ever remote desktoped on my home network.

With both drives installed start command prompt and type msconfig and press enter. Go to the Boot tab and tell me how many entries do you see. In mine I have five entries.
In order to triple boot like you want you will need to see three entries.

I'm new to this forum and I need help. I contacted MS support and was told that I could not RDC from my laptop that has Windows 10 home to my desktop that has Windows 10 Pro. I was told that both had to be Windows 10 Pro. I don't think that is true. Can someone help me?

Howdy,

I don't need to migrate apps. I just need to migrate data and settings if possible. Is there an automated way like the old Easy Transfer program where I can run a program one the Old and New computers and jsut have it go through and copy all the docs, picture, videos, desktop, etc (maybe even browser settings?) over without me having to do it manually?

I have a laptop that was upgraded from 8 to 10 but it's now being replaced with a different one that is Windows 10 but is blank.

Thanks.

Answer:Any official way to transfer data from a WIN10 PC to a different WIN10

No, sorry. It is usually simple enough to export/import browser favorites, documents, pictures, desktop, etc over to a USB drive and then over to the right folders on the new computer. The Easy Windows Transfer tool has been discontinued since Windows 8. There might be 3rd party programs, but certainly not Microsoft "official" ones.

Hello - I have a 2006 bespoke video editing system - 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Core 2 DUO, XP Pro, with a 6 mth old replacement 1TB SATA 111 Video HDD plus GV EDIUS, Photodex Producer, and TMPG Authoring s'ware ALL only compatible with XP.
I believe that I have three options: 1. purchase replacement s'ware for Windows 10 and upgrade PC to Windows 10 or use the PC for the old XP programs 2. Run in DUAL BOOT on C: partitioned, with XP on first partition (perhaps replace main HDD with a SSD just for programs) 3. Check if the old programs will run under Windows 10 compatibility mode?
I cannot find how I might check if the programs will run as 3.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer:DUAL BOOT XP / WIN10 or WILL WIN10 BE ABLE TO RUN XP APPS?

In the process of upgrading to Windows 10, i.e. from Windows 7, 8 or 8.1, the user will be prompted when certain programs are not compatible with Windows 10. However, two things:
1) In my experience, very specialized software will not be flagged as incompatible even if they are (such as my computational chemistry and physics software, which I luckily was able to update to a compatible version officially from the software publisher);
2) It seems that you can NOT directly upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 10. You need to either jump to Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 first before going to Windows 10, or go to Windows 10 directly (if you can find a valid ISO AND purchase a license key).

MAJOR EDIT 2015-08-02 I am grateful for the folks that have posted here to correct my outdated views of how Win10 is activated and stored. My age is showing and what used to be the way I remembered how MS protected its OS from being misused and how it can remember that my computer has a valid license has changed a LOT since the days of Win95 and XP. I will highlight the changes but leave my mistakes for others to comment on.

The confusion that most people are having is what they are getting with the Win10 upgrade. Too many people are assuming that MS is giving away free copies of retail Windows 10. That is simply not the case. MS is letting Win8.1 users patch their Win8.1 computer to make it run a a copy of Win10 with very limited rights. If you want all the rights that a retail version has, you need to BUY a copy of the full retail Win10 Pro product. Don't confuse the two, they are different in what you can do with them. EDIT This statement is simply wrong. If you start with retail, you end up with Retail Win10. If you start with OEM, you end up with OEM Win10. End EDIT From another of my posts:

Think of the Win10 upgrade as simply an update patch on top of Windows 8.1 to make it look like Win10. Lets call it Win8.1++. Don't think of it as a completely new install of Win10 because it isn't (EDIT Ay-yi-yi. I really blew this part. In fact it is the same as the retail version of Win10 if you started with the retail version of your old OS, OEM has the same restrictions... Read more

Hi. I've finally allowed my Win7 to be upgraded to Win10. I built my PC myself and may build another in the future which is why I've downloaded the Media Creation Tool. I was about to make a start when I got this message (see pic).

Can anyone tell me if I'll have problems installing Win10 to newly built PC? Or will my current Product ID work? Or will I need a new Product Key (are they easy to get)? Thank you.

Answer:Installing Win10 to a new build PC using 'existing' Win10

You must have selected a different iso to your Windows 7 install. It has to match e.g. if you have Windows 7 SL, you need Windows 10 SL iso.

I have some old instructions on how to do this (I currently have Win 7 and Win 10 and want to add Win 10 insider version) but they do not work with Win 10.
The instructions I have involve a command prompt to rebuildbcd. But with Win 10, when I get to Troubleshoot/Advanced Options there is no command prompt option.

Answer:How to triple boot, Win 7/Win10/Win10 Insider

The rebuildbcd worked by booting from a USB drive that has Win 10 Insider. Going to Repair and advanced then to command promp, entering bootrec /rebuildbcd I was able to add the Win 10 insider to the boot list.
