z580 touchpad not working properly with windows 8

Question: z580 touchpad not working properly with windows 8

Bought a z580 laptop recently and upgraded to windows 8. The vertical and horizontal scrolling features don't work with it anymore. There is also no zooming and rotating feature anymore. I downloaded the windows 8 driver from the lenovo website, but it says that I need the 64bit driver for my laptop. According to the lenovo download it was for both 32 and 64bit. How can I get the touchpad functions back?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:ideapad z580 wifi not working properly with windows 8

hi yashikabajaj08,

Welcome to the Forums.

You're issue might be similar to this thread.

If you have gotten the problem after updating the wireless driver either from the Intel website or windows update, try to  rollback the driver from the previous version or perform a System Restore to undo the changes that were made.

If the above doesn't apply to you, can you provide the wireless driver of your wifi module and try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking to isolate if there's a third party security software that might be blocking your connection.

Let me know your findings,

I've had my Lenovo since July of 2012, and after about 3 months of use, the Wi-Fi stoped functioning. It takes a lng time to connect to my home network, and only connects IM clients and google webpages on my browser. I've tried so many things and nothing has really changes it. My wired ethernet connect seems to work fine, so I've been using that. I must have it wired or I have the disfunctional Wi-Fi problem. I haven't been able to take my laptop anywhere for the past year, and would still really like to solve this problem. If anyone can give me a hand here I'd appreciate it a lot.Thank you to anyone who can help me prior to the help.Dylan F.

Answer:New z580 with Win 8 Wifi not working properly

Hello and welcome,

What wireless mode are you using (g or n)? and what encryption mode?

This is a real long shot, but I've seen it lately on a couple of new laptops.  The router is set for WEP security, but allowing the laptops to hook up in n mode.  This is not supposed to be allowed per the n specs.

It can lead to a flaky connection.

Not saying this is your issue - just one thing to check.

Hi, I hadn't used my DVD reader for a while as of earlier, but when I did it failed to play some of my DVDs. Some played fine, but for most, all it did was whirr loudly and fail to read. It didn't even register there was anything in the drive. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? I tried running the fixit here, but it didn't wotk. I tried gently cleaning inside the tray (it was very dusty), and the lens but this didn't work and I'm a bit worried this damaged it.  Any suggestions? Or should I just get a new external drive. Thanks.

Hello.i just bought a lenovo Z580 last monday, and after sometime with it i noticed that pressing the spacebar on the right side or just giving it a gentle stroke on the center won't register anything, but it will work if i press it from the left side or from the center with a harder stroke, so after returning it back to the shop that i bought it from for diagnosis so they would give me a properly functioning one, they told me it's a common problem in the z580. is it really? is everybody else having the same problem?Hakim.

Dear guys, my lenovo ideapad z580 windows8 laptop's novo button doesn't bring up Novo Menu after some repair in the motherboard by a private technician. After the repair, the novo button just starts the windows. Even the S.No. of the system is changed in the BIOS after the repair work. Contacting 2 different lenovo autorised dealers, both told me to get the motherboard replaced by a new one. I don't want to spend 16-18k bucks on it. Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Z580 Novo button not working properly?

Hi BJBAD,

Greetings.

As we are not sure what change they had made with the laptop like reformatiing partition of the harddrive (can remove the OKR image) or flashing BIOS/ BIOS chip etc. The serial number and information can only be changed by an internal tool used by Lenovo technician as the same reason why most dealers rather suggest having a replacement OEM motherboard instead.

Since costing of systemboard replacement would be near the same price of the laptop, personally if everything is running ok with your task for your computing needs then such changes can be ignored.

Just keep note of the original SN and new ones for reference purpose and have a Windows 8 install image handy for any reimaging needed in the future.

Hope this suggestion helps answer your query.

Hi, Last night my touchpad just died on me (It's less than 3 months old). First I just thought it has frozen and would snap back as it did an hour before but it didn't. Have tried to download the Synaptics Touchpad Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - IdeaPad Z380, Z480, Z580 but that doesn't help at all. Not sure it actually installed it correctly. The installation doesn't seem to go to compilation and the progress box disappears halfway through the install.  Read on an other thread here that you needed to uninstall the Synaptics software but that didn't help. The software did reappear after startup (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Touch-pad-not-working-Z580/td-p/1201254). According to that thread you need to remove it from the devise manager too, but I can't find anything relating to that in the devise manager. Tried this thread's solution too but to no avail. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/z580-touchpad-not-working-properly-with-wi.... That just failed full stop. I could at one point today see a levono pointing device in the drive manager but that has now disappeared. It said the following: :Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45) To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer. That entry has now vanished. I have also reverted the system to a restorepoint when it worked but that didn't help.&nb... My touchpad on my laptop has recently stopped working. I am unable to move the cursor but can usually click. The pressure graph and mood pad usually recognize that there is pressure on the pad but the cursor still doesn't move. I have tried uninstalling the synaptic driver and reinstalling it but it still won't work. I can sometimes get the cursor to move by using the very bottom of the touchpad (over the buttons) but it's not really helpful. Is there anything else I should try?  Thanks

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Uninstalling the driver and then installing a fresh copy is usually the first fix.  If that didn't work then try reseting the BIOS just to rule out a possible hardware conflict.  To do the reset, do this......1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If the reset didn't resolve the problem then your problem is most likely hardware related.  I would suggest you contact Lenovo Support for additional service especially if your warranty is still active.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

Answer:Z580 Touchpad totally NOT working

Try to install the chipset driver and imei driver if applicable. Go to device manager and try to delete the touchpad driver. If presented with a delete option select ok. Shut down and remove your usb mouse to avoid the system installing the driver for it. Start the unit and examine what is installed in the device manager for your touchpad. Try installing the correct touchpad driver.

hi amendhe,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your questions:

1. Check this link for the Lenovo Z580 Drivers as this has all the drivers that you require.

2. If you have deleted the recovery partition, the One Key Recovery (NOVO) button will no longer and is unrecoverable. However, check this site as it has instructions that you can try on how to restore One key Recovery function after changing partition size

3. As Intel Intergrated graphics automatically allocates video memory, check this Graphics Memory FAQ for Windows

Answer:Touchpad not working properly

What state is your laptop on when the touchpad issue occurred? This happens on my fujitsu laptop when charger is plugged in. After a quick googling, found out that I just had to put the "brick" part of the charger to a good distance away from my laptop. Worked wonders! Issue usually happens with replacement chargers (due to voltage or ampere incompatibility).

Not sure though if this was your case.

I?m sorry to hear that click buttons in the touchpad of your Lenovo ThinkPad L520 is not working properly.

Try uninstalling the touchpad drivers from device manager and let windows install the default drivers. Now check if the buttons work fine. Check in safe mode as well. Later, you can install the compatible drivers.

Go to control panel -> Mouse -> Ultranav tab. Under touchpad settings, check if the buttons are configured properly. Refer the below picture.

No idea if this is hardware or software, but I'm trying this first.

I have an Inspiron 1525 laptop running Vista. My touchpad stopped working for some random reason a couple days ago except for the buttons. It might have started working again a while ago, but I just noticed 2 hours or so again that it was working, except for 2 things: I can't do that... uhhh... dunno what it's called, where you click the two buttons together and it does what clicking the mouse wheel on a normal mouse would do... and I can't scroll. The thing on my taskbar that tells me where my finger is on the touchpad has disappeared, as well.

Answer:Touchpad not working properly

Touchpads are usually proprietary pieces of hardware that have drivers supplied by the manufacturers. Check your device manager and settings in Control Panel (it may be under the Mouse settings) to be sure everything is all right there.

You might also go to the manufacturer's web site to check on a driver, and maybe an update to it. You could always reinstall it, anyway.

Hi,
The mouse in my Win 8.1 64 bit laptop is not working properly; specifically the buttons. When I move it, the cursor actually moves, but as in slow motion and, as suggested, neither right nor left click buttons work in either the usb-connected cable mouse, nor the laptop's touchpad. Furthermore, I changed the mouse, but the results were the same: slo-mo cursor and no button functions. When asleep, the moving of the cursor does not wake up the laptop.

I have to confess that today is the 10th day that the laptop is on and running an engineering software non-stop. However, up until today, this was not an issue and I had been able to use the laptop normally with said software in the background. What was different today was that I was out all day and did NOT use the laptop normally.

I can anticipate that the easiest solution is to force a shut-down and it is very probable that upon restart, everything will be back to normal. But I need my program to finish runing and it is a good three days away from finishing, but I also need to use the computer on those three days.

Any suggestions?

Hi all, On my Acer Spin 3 everything was working properly until the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Now touchscreen and touchpad are glitchy (can't scroll down with 2 fingers with touchpad, touchscreen very erratic), and I just realized it was just in Chrome, not in Windows itself, or Microsoft Edge.I know there is an issue with touchscreens in Google Chrome which can be solved by going in ://flags and enabling touch screen, which I did. However things work properly for a few minutes and then the problem comes back. What solves it is closing all Chrome windows and restarting. Anyone got a solution to this problem? Two things are weird : 1) It started after W10 Anniversary update2) It's just in Google Chrome! Thanks.

Answer:Touchscreen and Touchpad not working properly in C...

Since the touchpad and touchscreen work elsewhere, then it likely is the Windows Update that caused this. With the release of any major Windows update there is always a possibility of drivers malfunctioning but these issues should be resolved with the regular following updates. The link below does mention Elan touchpad drivers specifically but this would apply to any driver.

Suddenly, touchpad on my laptop LENOVO E531 decided to not working properly... 1. Its not possible to perform double click, instead mouse pointer skips a distance on the screen...2. left "mouse" button is not working on touchpad, just the right button offering me options to do with the screen or webpage or whatever3. touchpad is not reacting instantly in some areas, if i dont move with touchpad for a couple of minutes e.g. in the middle right area (when i place fingers there and start moving up and down, it doesnt react instantly)4. i noticed just before i posted this message, that mouse pointer started to shake and selected text on screen as if the left button was clicked while i was moving with my logitech mouse.5. Also when i scroll down with my logitech mouse, it sometimes scrolls back up a bit, which is really annoying Hopefully u can help me sort this out, i've already had problem with this laptop in march but somehow i managed to make it work again. Currently im studying abroad 1400km from my home country, so i cant afford to send it to lenovo service under warranty. Thank you very much for your help in advance. Appreciate any advice.

Hi I have a Samsung RV510 laptop and I have a problem with the elan touchpad. It can scroll up and down but I when I click or tap on anything it doesn't do anything. I am using a USB plug in mouse but I am working on an university assignment and I need the USB portal to save my work on an USB key. Before Christmas I had the same problem and I went into the tech support in uni and he said that I had set the left click button to right click function or something like that and he went into control panel and mouse to resolve the problem. He fixed it by doing something in Mouse under Control Panel but I just can't remember what and by the way I have the setting where the elan touchpad is disabled when an USB plug in mouse is inserted. I really need help today if you can ! I have tried to adjust the settings of the touchpad in Mouse in Control Panel but even switching the buttons does not do anything to solve the problem. Sometimes when I start the laptop the touchpad works fine but an indication that is going wrong is when I am scrolling the screen with the touchpad the pop up that appears on screen when one right click appears by itself and keeps appearing whenever on the screen I move the touchpad mouse. After that the tap to click as well as left and right click buttons fail to work at all and I do not know if this is a software problem or is it a hardware problem as I said I encountered this problem already and now it's returned. Thanks

I have a HP Pavilion DM4-3099se Laptop with a Intel Core i5 dual core processer and 6GB of RAM. On this laptop is a Synaptics touchpad and uptill now it was working fine. It recently started glitching and now when i move my finger on the touchpad, the mouse moves but it repeatedly stops and then starts moving and then moves in all different directions. I went to the Synaptics website and installed the latest drivers for the touchpad and the installation was successful but the trackpad was still the same way. My external wired mouse works fine right now though. I tried restoring my system the earliest point there was on the list and still no improvement on the touchpad. Please help. Thank you.

Answer:Touchpad is not working properly on Satellite L30-X10

Hi,

I am not sure if this can be a good solution but maybe it?s worth to try it:

1. Download the latest touchpad software from here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
2. Remove the old software
3. Reinstall the downloaded software
4. Go into your mouse properties and check if everything is configured (especially the scroll function)

Give some feedback in case of further questions..

Hi, yeasterday I got my G510, but my touchpad is not working properly. When I restart it works for about 10 minutes and then the right side of the touchpad stops responding, sometimes it starts scrolling instead of moving.I tried with various driver versions, i tried to get the driver directly from synaptics website, but the problem persists and I am not sure if its a driver issue or a hardware one. So if someone could help me I would really appreciate it BTW - its a synaptics touchpad on windows 8.1 64bit

Answer:G510 touchpad not working properly

hi Dirty,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try Uninstalling and removing the Synaptics driver from Device Manager (make sure you place a check under delete driver software prompt) and from Control Panel / Uninstall a Program.

Then restart the system
the computer then will utilize a Windows Generic Driver.
Observe the system if the problem will be back.

With that you can isolate if the problem originates from hardware or just the drivers.

Regards
Solid Cruver

Hi there, Nmparmar          -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Can you try to:
Make sure you use the original 65W 20V/3.25A or 90W 20V4.5A AC adapter that came with the unit.

Plug the AC adapter in another wall outlet in your house (preferrably another side of the house) - if this works, the original wall outlet that you used before when you got the issue may not be properly grounded.

Perform a power drain by:a turning the PC OFF. Remove the battery & AC adapter then hold the power button for 30secs. When done, reinsert the AC adapter and battery then boot into the BIOS by pressing F2. When inside the BIOS, press F9 to reset default settings and press F10 to save and exit.

Update the Touchpad Driver below:

Hello.

Since upgrading to Windows 10, my touchpad is not working properly any more. It's not that the touchpad isn't working at all or that I can't move or control the pointer. I say it isn't working properly because, occasionally, one single tap is read as multiple taps, and it has the same effect as if I had tapped about ten times.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Thanks.

Hello, my Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 runs on a Windows 7.  Often times, I have to use the F5 button in the work that I do, and I notice when I hit that button repeatedly, my touchpad freezes.  The mouse stays where it's at, and I have to restart my computer to get it to work again.  I looked online, and see people saying to look for the mouse icon on either F7 or F9, but I don't see that on my keyboard.  I also have seen people talking about hitting a button to disable it on accident, but there is no such button by or near my touchpad.  It's extremely frusterating.  Can you help me?  Thanks.

For your model and operating system, there are two Touchpad drivers available, one from ELANTECH and another from Synaptics. Please check if you have installed the correct one. To check this, you can refer to the user manual of your computer or contact Acer support using the following link:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact If the touchpad driver you have reinstalled is correct, you can consider performing a system restore to restore your system to a point when the touchpad was working fine. To do this, refer to "Restore your PC to an earlier point in time" section on the following link:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc Hope this will help you.

I'm experiencing problems with my brand new  Thinkpad 13. For some reason double tap and drag or just tap doesn't work and than miraculously is working again. So for example in the same web page I'm reading an article by scrolling down and than all of a sudden I can't scroll anymore by double tap and drag so I have to use left click and drag. After a few minutes is working again. I tried to update the driver but I'm getting a message saying that I already have the latest driver. I have to mention that in the Elan Smart-Pad menu One-finger tapping is enabled.

Hi, I have a Thinkpad T430 with Windows 8.1 pro (8.1 update installed). The problem keeps bore me is the touchpad is not working properly on Win 8 gestures. For example, the finger slides in from left and right ride of the touchpad, which suppose to pop current running Win 8 apps and search & settings respectively. But when I do that, it gives me nothing. The situation is that everytime if I boot/reboot the laptop, the touchpad will work smoothly for a while. But if I hiberbate the laptop (folding the screen back down) and turn it back on the next day for a few days, the touchpad won't work on the gestures anymore. So I am wondering how to fix the issues. I have also intalled the drivers for touchpad and pointing device through ThinkVantage centre, but it did not help. cheers

Answer:Touchpad is not working properly on Satellite A100

Hm, sounds like a really annoying and weird problem. Did you tried to reinstall your system or at least a linux from live-CD to check if the problem persists if you boot another operating systems?

If you didn?t tried, then it would be useful. Maybe it?s just a software problem. But if yes and the problem doesn?t want go away, then you have a huge problem and your next step will be to bring your machine to a authorized service partner. Why?

Because if yes, then you would probably have a hardware problem and you won?t be able to fix it on your own. Quite simple and easy explanation...

Hi suneel_zee.
Welcome to the Community,
Have you tried different power outlets? Does this happen in different locations(even outside you house/work)?
I would suggest you to release flea power. To release flea power disconnect AC adapter, remove battery, disconnect all external peripherals(USB devices),press and hold power button for 30 seconds.
Reconnect the battery and AC adapter.Check how touchpad responds with AC Adapter connected.
If the issue persists try a different AC adapter(may be borrow from some one who uses same watt Dell AC adapter).
Let me know how it goes.
Thank You

I love my Satellite T110-107 but there are issues with the TouchPad.

1). The mouse cursor doesn't move at times. With this one I can get it to move by taking both hands away from the laptop for a moment.
2). The mouse cursor suddenly 'shoots' off to the right hand of the screen.

I've tried changing the touchpad sensitivity to both the minimum and the maximum levels, i've adjusted the 'Palm' sensitivity but nothing seems to help other than by making the sensitivity low which helps a little.

I've also noticed that when the laptop is on my lap, the problem is worse than if it's on a table.

I think that it's a problem with a build up of static on the case.

Any other ideas?.

Answer:Satellite T110-107 - Touchpad not working properly

Hi buddy,

I use Satellite T110 for months now and really and no problem. Everything runs great and I don?t have any problems. It?s really great notebook!!!

So it must be something wrong with yours or installation.
First of all I would recommend updating the touchpad driver. You can download it on the Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

After this you should test it again. Check also the touchpad settings again. There are a lot of settings to improve touchpad.

I recently bought a Lenovo G4070 (just some days ago) and I recently realized that my touchpad is acting weird. When I select some Drop Menu (from Microsoft Edge, for exemple) or when I right-click in Windows to select some option, whenever I start using the touchpad, the menu disappears, acting like I clicked out. And sometimes when I click in quick sucession, the touchpads "locks" itself in clicking and don't stop util I make another movement. I don't know if that's is how it's suppposed to work, but I would like to know, because it's kinda bad, since I can't work properly with my new notebook.

The touchpad on brand new Lenova Yoga 720 does not function properly. After install, mouse pointer does not show and the touchpad does not work. The only way to get around on the computer is the touchscreen. Keyboard still works. A hard reset solves the problem temporarily. To get the mouse to show and the touchpad to work, I will have to hard reset the laptop everytime before desired use. If the computer goes to sleep, the touchpad dissapears. I do not think that the touchpad shows up anywhere in my devices. I am not sure because I do not know what the file may be called. Otherwise, I would uninstall the driver and re install. Support said to download driver off website, there isn't a touchpad driver available for download. I'd like to keep this laptop  and correct this issue. But it is a new computer so if there isn't a solution soon, I will return it instead of wasting time adding to it. Seems that many have had similar issues. Anyone any closer to an answer? Hello? Help?

This is the second time i am posting this due to no replies: I recently bought a Lenovo G505s about a month ago. Everything is fine with it until i downloaded Steam and downloaded some games. 3 of the games i downloaded are shooters and therefore require the left mouse button. But when i click it to shoot, it doesn't respond sometimes and is very laggy. This is not the fault of the game as i tried it in different ones but the problem is still there. i tried to switch round the buttons (so that the right button is to shoot and the left to aim) and it works fine. I would prefer to have it the usual way around so does anyone have a way to fix this? did this happen to you? If it is needed here are some specs for the pc:AMD A8 6gb ramWIndows 8.1  also the buttons and trackpad work completely fine with everything else except games including Minecraft. it seems that when i am moving with WASD the button doesn't work but the right click button does. Can someone please give me a reply?

Answer:G505s Touchpad buttons not working properly while gaming?

hi AdreesInator,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

There is a feature on Touchpad software and driver to lessen the touchpad Sensitivity when using the keyboard to prevent touchpad movement when typing,
I believe this is the cause.

First try to open Control Panel and look for Hardware and sound then Mouse
Then you will find a TAB at the top right for your touchpad.
Click that and select Settings or properties, This is how it looks.

Click the settings and once inside look for Palm check Option, This is the feature that changes the sensitivity and response accuracy of the touchpad

If you can't find this Palm check inside the touchpad settings, you might need to uninstall the touchpad driver and just use the WIndows Generic driver as the Driver does not support changing it.
If this is the case
Open Control Panel and look under Mice and other pointing device and uninstall your Synaptics or ELAN then go Open COntrol Panel / Add remove Programs / Uninstall a program and uninstall Synaptics or Egis tech ELAN.
Then try your Games with the touchpad and it should work fine

Hope this helps
Cheers!

I have a brand new Satellite L50 CI3 laptop. However, it seem there is a fault with the left and right buttons on the touchpad.

The right click behaves like a left click i.e. it does not open a menu.

The left click cannot drag and drop, this includes when using scroll bars.

I've reinstalled everything but nothing has changed. Is this a common problem? Is this likely to a problem with the hardware or software?

Answer:Touchpad right/left click is not working properly on Satellite L50

Hi

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. Have you noticed this issue from he first day of usage?
I mean when you start your notebook for the first time it has original factory settings and everything should be OK.

If I understand you right there is some reaction when you use touchpad buttons so what you can try is to set all touchpad options to default settings.

Hi,

I spent a lot of time searching for the solution of my problem, but without effects.

My touchpad is not working properly. I mean, i can move the arrow and click on the screen, that is ok. But all other functions (volume, mailbox and other "virtual buttons" are not working)- so called "dual mode".
I got mouse connected to the USB.

If I disconnect it, there is no change - the touchpad works only in the basic mode.
If I change in touchpad settings for "always in Dual Mode when an outside device is plugged in" - the Dual mode and all the virtual buttons work.
But what should I do to make the dual mode work even if the mouse is not connected (to make the on/off button work)???

Thanks for all help,
M.

Answer:Satellite A200 touchpad function not working properly

I?m a little bit confused now and I don?t know what you want exactly?
You speak about the touchpad, dual mode, USB mouse, etc.

I don?t know what you mean with dual mode and maybe you should give us more informations about your OS.
And do you use the touchpad or USB mouse?

Can you post a screenshot or something else?

I don?t know if this solves your problem but have you tried to update the touchpad driver? You can find it on the Toshiba website.

The hinges on my computer were askew, so I sent my computer to the service center. After 3 weeks, they returned my computer to me and told me that the top "chassi" and the bottom cover have been replaced. Not sure what they meant, because the people that fixed my computer were not there at the store to explain it to me, but I'm assuming that it's the top and bottom cover of my computer. I was told that the hardware and the software are still intact, because they didn't have to alter anything during the reparation of my computer. The first thing I noticed when I started using my computer again is that it is very slow. It makes that "thinking" clicking sound all the time, even when I'm not using the computer (No programs/files open, long after the computer's startup). The system was VERY slow. It was laggy and irresponsive most of the time. I deleted multiple useless files and download new antivirus software to make sure that my computer is clean. The computer is no longer laggy, but the "thinking" sound is still there (it's there all the time).  The second thing I noticed is how my touchpad didn't respond to my click. I can move the cursor around perfectly fine, but I cannot click. Neither with a tap on the touchpad nor with an actual click on the touchpad. The touchpad registers my touch, but not my click :/ Does this have anything to do with the aforementioned hardware/software/harddrive/drivers? (My computer terminology is terrible, sorry). Thank you.&nb... Read more

Hey guys, i had the Y580 under the christmas tree and have been having issues with the touchpad since. It appears that if i make a downwards swipe from the upper 25% there is no reaction from the cursor. Then again if i move my finger horizontally in this segment the movement is totally fine. I doublechecked, switched and re-installed the drivers, but i didn't succeed. I managed to get rid of the problem once, choosing the PS/2-mouse driver but ended up losing the ability of using gestures (like 2 finger scrolling). Anyways, this is not an option as i definitely want to use gestures. The touchpad is working fine, i just think the driver misinterprets the scrolling.Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Y580 Touchpad - upper sector not working properly (?)

idk it seems that the trackpads on these laptops devices aren't very good. Mine slows down and drags occasionally.  Also, the trackpad gestures are intermittent.  I'm hoping that re-installing the drivers helps.

Hello The morning I had 2 dismantle the laptop to fix something and before the touchpad and keyboard worked fine.. after putting the laptop back together 1st the keyboard didn't work so removed it and reput the ribbon and then it worked but the alt, ctrl, delete and some keys didn't.. also the touchpad isn't working at all Any ideas? Thanks

Answer:G580 Touchpad not working and keyboard not functioning properly

I would suggest downloading the service manual for your computer and look thru section regarding removal of keyboard to make sure you have it correct.  Then try re-connecting ribbon cable per manual instructions making sure to seat the ribbon cable correctly into the socket on the system board.  On some notebooks there is a secondary cable for the touchpad that also needs to be connected correctly.

Good luck.

My synaptics touchpad is not working correctly my mouse is working fine but the corners from the touchpad for special functions isn't working at all.

I tried to configure it again but this had no result, also i downloaded a new driver but this had no result to. My buttons keys for multimedia like play/pause or stop aren't working either.

These buttons/keys stopped working at the same time as the touchpad. Checked for viruses with NOD 32 pro and for spyware with ZA pro==> no results.

Who can help me with this problem???

Answer:Synaptics touchpad is not working properly on Satellite A100-635

Hi there,

just a little question: when did they stopped working? Did you installed some software or some similar stuff like tools or something?
If not, then backup your data and make a system recovery. It should be a good way to find out, if it?s just an software problem or a serious hardware problem.

I suggest you to recover your system and then give a feedback if it worked, because if you already tried a new driver, you won?t have many choices.

Hi, I got my HP ENVY 15t-q100 CTO Notebook PC in September, 2014. It has Windows 8.1, 64-bit. For the first few weeks of use, I did not have any issues. Then, I started having more occurences of cursor/touchpad issues to the point where it happens every hour of use (not an external mouse issue): Jumps around on screen (a few millimeters to inches). Move incrementally on its own without me anywhere near the laptop (generally spazzes to the left). Not allow scrolling/normal touchpad functions when issues are occuring. Functions as if I am holding down the click button while I try to move it - most frustrating part when I am doing important work. Randomly click stuff as I attempt to move it.  Here is what I have tried to do to fix it and has not worked:Roll back driver (didn't work). Update driver (no updates available). Reset device (works for a minute or so). Restart (I do this daily anyway). Reduce cursor speed and other mouse options suggested online.   I have seen similar issues for the HP Envy 17 and other notebooks, but no actual fixes have been proposed. Please help me with this issue.

Hi. I'm a first-time user and happy to have found your website!

My operating system is Windows 7. I am using a wireless Logitech Mouse (uses USB hardware). I have had this laptop for 5+ years.

PROBLEMS:
1. The touchpad will not ?turn off.? Under "Mouse" on the Control Panel, functions for the Dell Touchpad should allow me to simply turn the touchpad on and off. Regardless whether it is in the on or off position, it is still on.
2. Even when I don?t touch the touchpad, the cursor skips around the screen, highlights text and deletes text. Typed text re-locates within earlier typed text.
3. There is an on/off light at the top of the touchpad that indicates the touchpad is on/off. This is not working.
4. Also this panel item allows me to manage sensitivity, buttons, gestures & edge scroll & zoom. I can work these, but the Edge Scroll & Zoom buttons do not see to change the settings.

WHAT I HAVE DONE TO ATTEMPT RESOLUTION:
1. I have checked the drivers for both the touchpad and mouse and I get messages that they are each up to date
2. Because the touchpad will not turn off, I have tried to manage the buttons to turn down the sensitivity, to minimize movement of text. This does not help.
3. Turning on ?Disable Touchpad & Point Stick when USB Mouse present? does not disable the touchpad.

Answer:ausu smart gesture touchpad wasn;t working properly win 10

I got the same problem on my ASUS T300LA after upgrading to Windows10. ASUS smart gesture drivers 4.0.5 and 4.0.6 cannot do up/down scroll and right button. The only solution is to uninstall it and install the Windows 8.1 driver . version 2.2.8. Unfortunately Windows 10 automatically upgrades to the wrong one over time. I have to apply a fix to disable auto-update.

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me with this:

So I recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and I noticed a few issues with the touchpad on my laptop.

1: two finger scrolling no longer works. Now I have to drag one finger on the right edge of the touchpad up and down in order to scroll vertically.

2: I've also noticed the blue loading circle beside the pointer keeps flashing roughly once per second whenever i leave it alone, even if I am not running any programs. I can leave it on the desktop and the blue circle still keeps flashing.

It appears Win 10 installed a new driver called ELAN Input Device. That's what it says when I go to the device manager.

However, when I go to the settings menu>devices>mouse and touchpad>additional mouse options to the mouse properties, there is no way to configure the gestures.

I found out that I have to go to the Elantech folder in program files and run the ETDAniConf application and that brings up the gesture customization menu. However, when I run the program the option for two finger scrolling, pinch zoom, etc. are checked on, as is the default. There is no option for one finger right side scrolling like I mentioned earlier. And, as I said, the blue circle keeps flashing when idle.

My laptop is a MSI GT60 running Windows 10 upgraded from 8.1 which was updated from 8.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. To sum up, ELAN is messing up my touchpad and the pointer loading circle keeps flashing when idle... Read more

Hello,
I am having a Dell Inspiron 5537 ci7 with Windows 8 (64-bit) running.
Occasionally the pointing device starts to malfunction (especially after high-end playing games)

The problem:
"When I click anywhere on a window (be it browser or windows explorer etc..), the window gets deselected. I cant browse at all.
Another browser (Chrome) specific click issue (when deselection isn't happening- The tab closes when I click on it.
Right click also does the same.. (deselects the window)
The problem is gone when I shutdown and start again - Restarting usually doesnt helps"

It seemed like a driver issue to me - I have installed the latest version of synaptics driver from dell (i.e. v16.3.15.3) - didnt helped.

Hi, For some time now my mousepad/touchpad on my Lenovo P500 IdeaPad has not been working properly. The "right click" and "left click" functions does not work, only the tap on the left side works. I can't scroll with it, I can't right click with it and sometimes the I can't even left tap. I have to use my external mouse in order to be able to right, left click, scroll, etc. Is this a hardware or software issue? I have roll back the software of my touchpad/mousepad and re-install the latest version. I downloaded the latest version from the Lenovo website and after I open it to install it opens a window with a message that says: "No appropiate driver to install". I am assuming that it means I have already the latest version of the driver installed. Any ideas on what is going on?

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad P500 touchpad/mousepad not working properly.

hi chemist87,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

From your observation and the troubleshooting steps that you have done, it may look like the touchpad have gotten defective. If the touchpad's right or left clicker still doesn't respond if you uninstall the touchpad driver or boot in Safe Mode (Windows will use a generic touchpad driver), then you will need to contact Lenovo for service as this is definitely a touchpad malfunction.

I installed the appropriate driver, Synaptics Touchpad Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - IdeaPad Z380/Z480/Z580, hoping it'd work, but to no avail. I also tried reinstalling/overwriting my existing 64-bit driver when prompted by my system to do so.The scrolling, pinching, and sideways scrolling do not work at all; it is quite frustrating. Hello,I bought a Lenovo Z500 and after a while the touchpad started peeling off so I went to a lenovo service and changed the touchpad. After this, when I got the laptop back, the touchpad was working fine, but I couldn't scroll using two fingers (as I used to) so I reinstalled the Elan/Synaptics driver, but still not working. I reinstalled the whole system (Windows 7 x64) and is still not working.More details: Before the touchpad being changed I had the little icon in the task bar and when I used the mouse it appered in the icon how many fingers are touching the touchpad, now it doesn't. I tried to acces Elan by clicking on that icon (as I used to) and nothing's happening. I am waiting for a solution, because I use the touchpad more often that the mouse and without the Elan fuctions it's pretty much useless righnow.

I have spent a few hours with both Microsoft Premier Technical Support and (a very grumpy) Lenovo technician. They have both confirmed that the Windows 8 touchpad driver that is currently posted on the Lenovo site for the U300S does not load properly. It will, as many have reported, disable the touchpad altogether. There seems to be an issue with the loader installing files for both a Synaptics and a Cypress touchpad. This creates an apparent conflict that relegates the touchpad as useless. If you choose to install this driver, I would recommend that you create a store point so that it can be easily recovered. A standard mouse works just fine (albeit without any Win8 functionality). ***Lenovo should pull this damaging driver down from their site until a certified replacement can be prepared.***

I think that might be the reason that your bluetooth is not supported.

Hi all,I just got a z580 but I am noticing that the touchpad is not so smooth. am i the only one?  The pointer can skip from one end to the other at time and when I am moving the pointer is doesn't have a natural flow. What I do notice is that when my thumb is hovering on the left click, the touchpad senses both my finger (the one actually it) and the thumb - causing it to conflict. anyway in the settings to select the region of the two clicks to not be detected but only for clicking? hope that made sense i would hate to get rid of the laptop on something so minor but it's starting to annoy me that i can keep my thumb on the click for quicker selection. thanks for any help
