I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Greetings! I purchased a Lenovo Z580 laptop and got the hard drive replaced by a samsung 830 series SSD (128GB) with a fresh W7 install, the store put the 750GB harddrive into an external enclosure and I all this was at a very neat price. The laptop was awesome. But for the battery. From day one i had issues of battery lasting only 1.5 to 2 hours on a full charge. I did the following checks:1. Made sure all device drivers were installed from Lenovo website (or from hard drive OEM folder, whichever were latest). I did this first because the SSD had a fresh W7 install.2. Made sure all windows updates were installed3. Levono power management was set for Battery Fully Charged Mode and not Battery protection mode (where battery capacity is limited to, well, less than 100%) Problem was unresolved. I called the store and they gave me a new battery, no questions asked. Din't fix the problem. Then they gave me a new laptop, with the same SSD put in. Didn't work. This was two weeks into buying the laptop. I asked them to put the old 750GB HDD in thinking maybe its the SSD. Didn't fix the problem. (At this stage the laptop was as good as out of the box and I was sure SSD didnt cause the problem). I dont want to ask for money back because I need exactly the configuration present in this laptop, and at the price I got it, it's not possible (at least in The Netherlands). Also, it's sold out. Aside from this issue, the laptop is perfect. Meanwhile, I ran the pow... Read more

Here are the support pages for your Z580:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-z-series-laptops/ideapad-z580

You can use the OS drop-down to limit the display to Win7x64 drivers to see what's available. The chipset driver *may* address a couple of your listed items. The others may require deeper digging.

I have recently bought IdeaPad Z580 in 'NO OS' option.I installed a fresh new Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) and started installing various drivers from the lenovo website.I managed to install drivers for chipset, Intel HD Graphics 4000 but I cannot install drivers for GeForce 635M. In Device Manager my GeForce is identified as "Standard VGA Device"; I tried all avaible drivers from website; I have Optimus option enabled in BIOS, I tried with both UEFI enabled and disabled; every time the driver installer states that it "could not find compatible hardware". I even went to NVIDIA support page and run their scanning utility; it detected GeForce 635M, but refused to install any drivers because I should use drivers provided by laptop manufacturer. What shall I do to enable second video card?

Answer:Z580 - Drivers for GeForce 635M on freshly installed Windows 7

Good day and welcome to the community.

I believe that the Optimus driver package also installs support for the HD4000, but I don't know this for absolute certain. You may wish to try removing the HD4000 package and installing the Win7 Optimus package available from your Device Driver Matrix.

Hopefully, other members will see your query soon and share their personal experience.

Answer:Drivers missing after a Windows 8 Pro x64 UEFI Install on a Lenovo Z580 ideapad

Hello NikosGr, Windows 8 is still a new Operating System, therefore glitches still need to be worked out in future updates. Make sure to go to Lenovo's support website and see if there are any drivers for those devices for Windows 8. Try the Windows 7 drivers too as some of those will work with Windows 8. As for the Broadcom card being slow, they are decent cards, but not the best. I've had issues with mine when I first got my laptop. Hope that helps.

HI all, I have a Z580 and it was working fine until yesterday. My mic does not work with the Realtek drivers anymore. I've isolated the problem and I am pretty sure the issue is from the Realtek drivers. However I need the Realtek driver for Dolby V4 to work.  Here's a break down of my problem.Realtek Hd settings does  detect my mic however it only registers a sound when I click the remote.( I use a headphones with remote and mic)I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Realtek audio drivers but that did not help. I completely removed Realtek Hd settings and the mic started working flawlessly again. Can anyone help me?   z580Windows 8

hi LeDodo,

      Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Before i suggest to do a complete uninstall of you Audio driver can you share if this folder is available on your computer,

Open your Drive "C:" under My Computer then go to
               /Drivers
               /Realtek Audio Driver
               /PCEE4
And inside PCEE4 there should be a Dolby home theater v4

Those drivers do not appear to be on the HP website for Windows XP.

Locate the problem devices in the Device Manager, right click on them and select Properties, then click on the Details tab, then on Hardware ID in the dropdown box. It should be in this format:

Hi,

I just installed windows 7 professional 64 bit on my new hard drive of my ThinkPad W520. This is what it turned into:

http://s8.postimg.org/irq1dwnfp/IMG_0383.jpg

http://s8.postimg.org/4zg7w0m1x/IMG_0384.jpg

How did it automatically turn into a Lenovo Windows thing? I used a disc I bought from the local market.

My PC doesn't seem to have any connection to the internet. Do I have to install all the drivers manually now? :O I expected windows to be able to use my wifi card at least for now.

P.S. Plugging in a USB stick is doing nothing. I have tested the stick with other computers. How am I supposed to install the drivers this way! The CD/DVD drive seems to be working though.

icemoney,
Most of the programs are written in such a way that they are system specific. Even the Norton Antivirus and other such programs are written seperately for Win 9X ver and Win NT based OSes. So try to search for any info at the games's sites you want to play and see if they provide any help.

Hope this helps...

Hi,

Rather than answer all those questions , please use the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor
which will inform you if upgrade is possible and any issues that may arise upgrading:

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

Here are the minimum system requirements also for Win 7:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/products/system-requirements

Program compatibility guide:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/help/compatibility

Cheers and Good luck.

Then once you have installed Windows 7, if you experience any issues then
we will be able to help.

I wouldnt worry too much about the drivers, Win 7 should take care of the majority
of them and allow installation, you may just need a few 3rd party drivers after install.

Hello! I'm new to the forums but I'm not new when using my T60P. I've decided to buy the latest version of the old good Windows XP (SP3) and format my actual T60P laptop with it. It's easy, I've done it before with other computers and other systems (I know, for instance, I need to change the compatibility for the HDD for it) but the main problem I have is that I really don't know which drivers I should install for all devices to work properly (including hotkeys, bluetooth, wireless, that ATMEL stuff that always brought me trouble before). I only want to install all devices drivers and only the critical necessary software (like for the hibernation, sleep and other energy functions to become available and the hotkeys to work properly as the thinkvantage button, etc.) The reason I want to do this is because when using Access Connections and others, my laptop became really, really slow... so I want all this "extra" out of the memory and the PC. Uninstalling them always leaves some junk files inside too, so I need to be very careful with that. Does anyone know if there is a Wizard for the laptop to detect the necessary drivers and software to be installed? I've installed drivers one by one before in my T61 but installed really unnecessary ones too and had trouble with that. What do I mean "Wizard". Like, for instance, the old, old ASPIRE 1800 laptop I have (from ACER) has this utility for download that you run (which has got all drivers needed; mother... Read more

Answer:Formating T60P with Windows XP Professional SP3 (necessary-only drivers!)

[edit]  Almost forgot:   Hi Oscar, and welcome! That wizard is called ThinkVantage System Update.  Download, install, and run.  It will detect your machine type and OS, and offer a list of important and optional drivers and apps.  You can select which you want it to actually download. If it doesn't get everything you need, have a look over the full driver matrix for your machine.  You may need to manually install a network driver first if XP doesn't install something usable. ThinkVantage System Update 3.14  Product support Product: ThinkPad T60p Operating system: Windows XP Z.

Due to a specific piece of software I'm trying to setup Windows XP on an EliteBook 2560p with AHCI drivers for the SATA controller.  Where can I get these drivers, and what's the best way to install them?  I'm guessing since the laptop doesn't have a floppy drive I'll need to slipstream them into my XP CD?  What is the specific chipset of the driver? - from what I've seen on Intel's page there's a bunch of different options; ICH10d, ICH10R, ICH7M, etc, etc. Thanks in advance.

Answer:AHCI drivers for Windows XP professional on Elitebook 2560p

Tsk, tsk.  You should have gotten the name of the SATA ACHI controller first.   That is the reason one should always have a USB FDD in their tool kit. OK. I'm going to take an educated guess, and say you have the Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller. Now that you already have XP installed, first install the chipset driver and reboot. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=5071201&prodNameId=5071203&swEnvOID=1093&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-96363-1 Then download the second file listed, and extract these drivers to a folder you put somewhere on your C:\ drive so you can browse to it later. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20216&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%20XP%20Professional*&DownloadType= Follow this procedure to install the ACHI driver in XP: 1. So I have an old laptop running Win7 professional x64 SP1. I downloaded X17-59186.iso and made sure the MD5 and SHA-1 checksums matched which they do.

Properly formatted my USB drive etc. When I boot from USB and choose `install now` however I get the load driver window error:

Also if I try and choose "repair your computer" (at the previous step, rather than trying to install windows) I get an error message saying "This version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of windows."

This makes it sound like I have the wrong ISO even though in system information it is definitely running win7 Pro x64.

What is most confusing is that if I use this same bootable USB on my other laptop (running win7 home x64) it works fine, neither of these errors occur.

Also I read something about trying USB2.0/3.0 ports, neither will work.

Any help is very much appreciated, thanks!

Just picked up a brand new z580, and installed a ssd in place of the original drive. now from perusing the forums i see that the one key and restore won't work, and im actually ok with that as i was able to pick up most of the stuff from windows update/lenovos's website(far easier time than i had with my dells or hp)  however there are 2 things missing  1) the camera driver from the website doesnt install properly, there is immediately a problem in setup(i tried multiple times incase i was getting incomplete downloads) 2) all of the touch sensitive buttons(volume control/fan settings) work except for the "theater" button that would change the screen modes, there doesnt seem to be software for that  is there updated software i can get for these two ? and if i go through the auto software on the support website it says i have al the drivers/software updated...

Answer:Missing some z580 drivers

Hello and welcome,

How did you get the OS onto the new drive?  Clone, backup and restore, or clean install from Microsoft media?

Since you are missing drivers, maybe the 3rd option?  If so, mount your old drive externally, or re-install.  Do you see apps and drivers in a D: partition (or whatever it is called if mounted externally)?

You may find what you are missing there.

Ok I'm not great with computers I've seen all the other threads on updating drivers etc. When i bought this laptop i thought i had a built in nvidia graphics card but after checking my settings the only one i have is an intel hd 4000. So my question is,Is this graphics card sufficient to pay such as battlefield, asssassins creed, borderlands etc? Also, i tried updating the graphics card, both the intel vga and the nvidia optimus and both say that my laptop is not compatible or it does not meet the requirements, so how do i update my drivers? I'm running windows 8 32 bit , 1TB memory  and 8GB RAM with intel i5 which i thought would be sufficient. And im fairly sure my graphics card is built in. Sorry if this doesn't make much sense im not that great with computers and I've only had this laptop since Decemeber Thanks Embodien

Answer:Z580 Graphics card drivers

hi Embodien,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you have the switchable graphics (Intel+Nvidia) GPU via Optimus Technology, this unit is good enough to play BF3, hitting high settings @ around 25FPS. Check this video and this review for reference.

For updating the video card, you can try one of the following:
1. Install the Intel Display Driver first and install the Nvidia Drivers
2. Download the Intel+Nvidia driver package from the lenovo website

Hi All, after long digging around, I turn to you for help. I seem to have same problem that half of the internet, but I'm still far from solution As you can probably duess I got my Smart TV finally and wanted to profit some tech (namely Miracast) but my Z580 has NDIS 6.3 (I checked) which is not compatible. The issue is that the latest Win8.1 drivers on Lenovo support site for that model date back to 2013!!! Do you know if any NDIS 6.4 WiFi (broadcom) drivers exist for that model?BTW... I installed LSB from the support website but it does absolutely nothing gets stuck at 10%Thanks in advance.

I just bought a Z580 with windows 8 pre-installed. I don't like the OS and want to install Windows 7. I have the required disk, licences etc.. I can download drivers for pretty much all my hardware direct from Lenovo - except for the WiFi card in the notebook. The WiFi adapter is a Qualcomm Atheros 9485WB-EG.  Is there anywhere I can download a certified driver for this WiFi adapter for Windows 7.

Answer:Drivers for Qualcomm Atheros 9485WB-EG in a Z580

hi flintdk,

Can you try to install the Atheros 9485WB-EG v10.0.0.221 from the Atheros website (applicable for Windows 7 32bit/64bit).

Hello Dear Lenovo Tem; While I was upgrading my ideapad z580 from win7 to win 8; I've made some mistakes and some troubles occured. Please help me about them; 1: While I was installing win8, I shouldn't format my sytem harddisk and window 8 installer would scan my old os. But I didn't knew it and after formtting, I worked to install win 8. While installing win8, win8 installer didn't accept my hdd diving format. Then I had to format my alldisk divides. So I lost my orginal Lenovo One key recovery backups. And (I suppose becouse of this processement) unfortunately I can not open my loptop in one key recovery mode. If I can, How can I fiz it?2: After Win8 installation, I couldn't find the driver CapOSD for win 8, which displays when capslock, numlock and etc  keys are pushed, notificates them. Is there any driver which douse it? Or if there is, how can ? find it?3: I also can not use my Blue tooth device on my laptop. I've checked and my bletooh device is enabled. But when I worked to install its drver, installer stop at half of processement. Answer:z580 nissing drivers and features in win8

hi enesfnd,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your questions:

1. Some lenovo softwares and third party apps will not work after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 - see this WIndow 8 Upgrade Guide.by Lenovo

2. Can you install the Capslock & Numlock OSD driver below and reboot (this is for Windows 7 and will also work on Windows 8).

Lenovo CapsLock and Numlock OSD Driver0mcd04ww.exe2.91MB

3.For the bluetooth, try to:
a. Boot into the BIOS by going to the UEFI Firmware Settings
b. In the BIOS, press F9 to reload setup defaults and press F10 to save and exit.
c. When you get back to Windows, open Device Manager and see if you can now see the Bluetooth device. If same problem, uninstall Lenovo Energy Management - Windows 8 version and reboot and install the Lenovo Energy Management - Windows 7 version and reboot.
d. Press Fn+F5 and see if you can enable the bluetooth.

4. If you're referring to the Play/Pause (Fn+F9), Stop (Fn+F10), Rewind (Fn+F11), Fast Forward (Fn+12), and after following Step 3 doesn't resolve the issue then you may need to remap the keys. Try Sharpkeys:

Give it a shot - Map Any Key to Any Key on Windows 7 / XP / Vista (works also in Windows 8)

Hope this helps

Hi, I'm planning to buy Lenovo E73z Non-touch i7-4770s All in One desktop, Is there an option to downgrade Windows 8 prof 64 bit to Windows 7 prof 32 bit because our software only runs or compatible in Windows 7 32 bit. As a general option for Microsoft downgrade option is it possible? Is it compatible to do such option in the hardware? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Lenovo E73z Downgrade option from Windows 8 Professional 64 Bit to Windows 7 Professional 32 Bit

Windows 7 downgrade is an option for that machine on the Lenovo Shop site. Officially, only 64-bit versions are listed or sold. If you cannot run your software on 64-bit machines, best to call and talk to a representative to see if 32-bit versions are available.

Hi TinderboxThe thing is that the drivers posted by Lenovo at their site owever the one at the intel site are are made for not any specific laptop but for many supporting laptops. Also, if we are satisfied by the current state of the computer, there is never a need of updating anything.I hope you understand.

I?m a postgraduate student (science, not IT so please forgive my ignorance!) and I recently purchased a second-hand Toshiba lap-top.When I took it to the university IT department I was told they didn?t support Windows XP Home Edition and wouldn?t let me connect to the uni network until Professional was installed. However, because I hadn?t purchased a Dell lap-top via their department they would not help me install the Windows XP professional or the appropriate drivers, despite it being ?problematic and time consuming on laptops?. Oh so very helpful. I?ve now been given discs for Win XP professional and drivers from a colleague who DID purchase their laptop via the IT department and Dell. My silly question is therefore this; can I use these to upgrade my Toshiba lap-top? And if not, where do I begin on this ?problematic and time-consuming? task, bearing in mind my complete ignorance of such matters?

Good evening:

Those of you that might tried to change your S.O. to Windows 7 may had a problme like this.

I use a laptop from ASUS M51V series, looks like Asus already has available drivers for windows 7, i downloaded them, installed them all still problems happened, two devices are not working at all, one is my fingerprint knowlegment system and teh other is my webcam, windows 7 finds these devices, fingerprint is instaled but i'm not using it and i can't use asus administrator logon aplication as well to use it for now, maybe because the webcam is not installed, windows finds the webcam as an unknowned device, it gives the signed address of the device with the identification PID address that should be in the *.inf instalation file of the driver and it is there but. It simple doesn't install it gives me an error with the device name nothing more, i verified this, one thing's for shure the problem is not from ASUS and it is not from CHICONY ELETRONICS the problem is on windows 7 professional, maybe not compatible with this driver or else i don't know if it works on the other versions of the S.O. but this is the only genuine one that i can use for now so i'd like to have this working, is there someone the might have a litle notion of how to solve this problem????

Answer:I need help with chicony drivers on professional 7

Quote:
one thing's for shure the problem is not from ASUS and it is not from CHICONY ELETRONICS the problem

Actually, it will be if this is a Drivers problem or Compatibility issue.
They will need to fix their software to work with 7.

However,, it could possibly be the OS is corrupted in someway, or you need to install using the Right Click Run as Admin option when installing.

I want to over-write my Windows XP Home (OEM) with Windows XP Professional.

Is there an "Easy" way to copy / save drivers or will XP Professional pick up existing drivers automatically?

Answer:Drivers and updating to XP Professional

If you do the upgrade and not formatt it will keep your drivers but if you formatt then you'll need to re-install your drivers but Windows XP have many drivers already and you might not need to install any drivers.

Answer:z580 - Which password to use if laptop is in safe mode ideapad z580 ?

hi akshu_13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're running on Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, you should use the same password that you've set on your account.

If you're running on Windows XP, by default, you will see an additional Administrator account and the password is set to none. If you'll be using your own account and not the Administrator one then you should use the same password like in normal Windows.

Note:
Windows 8/8.1 can use a Microsoft Account and a Local Account. If you boot in Safe Mode only (not Safe Mode with Networking), you won't be able to use the Microsoft Account login as it requires internet access to verify your credentials, thus, you will need to use a Local Account.

Let me know if this helps you out.

I recently wiped my hard drive and installed xp pro. This is the second time in a few years I have done this. However this time I have found it very difficult to find the right drivers. I remember having only one problem last time which was with the audio driver. I ended up saving that file on a zip drive and have already re installed it, the sound seems fine so I guess that driver is fine. The machine is not here so I can't tell you exactly what driver it is but I can tell you it is a Legacy audio driver. Tonight was the first night I had it connected to the internet and had to do it through a cable as I can't seem to get the wireless working. I used the auto detect feature on Lenovo website and it came up with all kinds of drivers for just about everything. I'm not sure what drivers I actually need. The audio drivers it lists are completely different from the one I have installed and working, however if the ones listed will do better than I wouldn't mind switching. I really need to get the wifi working first as it is a real pain to connect it with the cable due to where it has to sit. Over the past month before I could get on the net I tried installing several different drivers from Lenovo via a mem stick. None of them worked. Now I tried one that the wizard listed also with no luck. I think it listed 4 different wireless LAN drivers for my operating system, how do I know which one to use? Have I created a problem by installing to many different wireless LAN drivers, not su... Read more

Just wondering if anyone has tried running XP professional X64 on the V200 and what level of success they've had? I have managed to find drivers for some of the main devices: wireless, video, touchpad and wired network but there a couple that I'm having trouble with. I can't seem to find 64bit drivers for the audio, modem, fingerprint sensor or usb camera. I have had some "success" with the Vista 64bit drivers from Lenovo but I'm not sure that I feel comfortable running drivers made for a different OS. If they "work" do they really work or will they have some unforseen consequences? I'd appreciate any input/thoughts. Lenovo V200 0764-2CU thanksMessage Edited by ksolowoniuk on 06-29-2009 04:44 PMMessage Edited by ksolowoniuk on 06-29-2009 07:07 PM

Answer:(z580) Just wondered what lenovo software will work with the z580 ?

hi mikee77,

The Lenovo Z580 comes with these lenovo pre-installed apps:

Lenovo OneKey RecoveryLenovo OneKey TheaterLenovo Cloud Storage by SugarSyncLenovo Energy ManagementLenovo Companion

The Lenovo Companion is like an app store the features:

Third-Party Apps and Ads
Lenovo products, Tutorials, Application showcases, Lenovo accessories information, Lenovo Cloud, and a link to Lenovo blogs and articles

Most apps listed on the Lenovo Companion will work on the Z580 as long as it meets the system requirements (i.e. If an app is made only for Touchscreen models, then you will need to get the non-touchscreen version or if there's a Utility app that senses temperature on a specific model, make sure Z580 is on the supported models).

Hi, I recently purchased a laptop computer from www.cyberpowerpc.com. I installed my own fresh copy of Windows XP: Professional on it, however there are a lot of question marks next to the drivers on the "device manager". To name a few: ethernet controller, modem device on high definition audio bus, network controller, video controller, and about 10 more. I tried installing some drivers and windows service pack 3, but I must have either done something wrong or didn't get the right drivers, because it did not work. I will list my computer specs if that will help.

I have just purchased a new PC. Details are HPDC7900 CMT Core 2 Quad, Q9400 4GB 500 GB Supermulti. Have had downgraded from Vista Business to XP Pro because Adobe Premiere was working fine on XP Home Version.

Now Adobe Premiere 6.0 is not working properly and folks tell me that it is because I need to download some compatible drivers for the new technology. Have never done this before! How do I find out which drivers, are they free and what is the source please ? All help will be much appreciated since I have three wedding videos urgently to complete. Many thanks

Answer:Drivers re Adobe Premier 6.0 / Pinnacle DV500DVD using XP Professional

Drivers aren't required for software. Drivers allow the OS to communicate and control hardware.

All you should need to do is install Premier and ensure you have the latest patches or upgrades installed.

Aside from that, I can't speculate as you haven't stated what isn't working or what error(s) you are getting from Premier. As Premier is a video app, you may need codecs for some video types, but I thought Premier had it's own.

Hi guys this is my first post of sevenforums ever, and i am rather excited I am doing a downgrade from Windows 7 Professional OS to Windows XP SP2. The machine i am doing the downgrade is an HP 500B MT, I am using the HP Restore Plus DVD that came with the machine as well as the Operating System CD. I started the setup yesterday and it seems to be taking forever!!!

Please help

Answer:Downgrade from Windows 7 Professional to Windows XP Professional SP2

Hello teekash and welcome to Seven Forums.

Please forgive these questions - I mean no disrespect. Why are you downgrading to XP? Did you know that Windows 7 Pro has an XP Mode? Did the HP 500B MT originally come with Windows 7 or XP? If it came with 7 you may have issues trying to find XP drivers. Did you know that XP is now Microsoft's biggest security headache?

Windows XP Mode - Install and Setup

Windows XP Security Headache

As to why things are taking so long, one more question. Does the HP Restore Plus DVD have Windows 7 on it or XP? If it has Windows 7, why not do a clean install of XP using an XP installation disk? It will format the hard drive (erase everything) during the install process. But you may still have driver issues if the HP originally came wiht Windows 7.

Hi hemantrocks1990,

First lets check if the drivers for the Wifi and Bluetooth is installed properly under the Windows 8 environment.  On the desktop press the windows key + c, then click on settings, then click on control panel.  Under control panel switch to large icons for view and go to system.  Under system we will have device manager available.

Please check if you can see the category Bluetooth, and the wireless adapter under Network adapters category.  If they are present, go to the properties of wireless adapter and check if the driver version is the latest and if the drivers are installed properly.  The latest Bluetooth driver version for Windows 8 is 12.0.0.1671/8.0.0.206 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.  The latest Wireless driver version for Windows 8 15.5.0.42/6.30.59.26/10.0.0.67 released 10/24/2012. Here is the link for the drivers.

If the drivers are installed properly, then we have to check if we are able to turn on and off the bluetooth or the wireless adapter.  Hit Fn+F5 and see if an interface comes up that gives you radio buttons to turn off or turn on your wireless and bluetooth adapters.  If no interface comes up, you may need to install the Lenovo Energy Management program to enable the hotkeys for turning on bluetooth and the wireless. Here is the link for the Lenovo Energy Management program.

Hey All This is my 1st post here.. I have Z580 laptop with One Key Recovery Option... I have dual boot in it - Windows 7 Home Basic and WIndows Server 2008 R2 I want to create a back up image file of both at the same time, using One Key Recovery, so that I can restore back in future, if need be 1. So, I will log in to, say, WIndows 7 and take the back up image.. Will that take an image for both OS at the same time? Basic question here is does it image of the Hard disk or each OS.. 2. Or do I have to take a separate image of both after logging into respective OS? 3. If answer to 1 is YES, will that restore both the systems at the same time in future using the One Key Recovery solution? 4. If the answer to 2 is YES, can i restore both the systems individually just by using the One Key Recovery solution? Br, Ajay Maheshwari

Then I again uninstalled and tried updating from Internet, It does something and then again gives same error. Finally I'm unable to use my BlueTooth. Please advises/help.

Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!

First try un-installing the synaptics driver under programs.

   > Go to Control Panel / Programs and features / uninstall a program,

Look for a snaptics Software and Lenovo Energy Management
and uninstall those two

Now download and install these drivers

Synaptics Touchpad Driver0mtp05w8.exe90.5MB

Lenovo Energy Managementem8.0.2.3.exe45.4MB

then try the Fn+F6. see if this will work

Hi, I have a Z580 with an HDD that is going through a life ending experience. At the current time it does not boot. Although I have salveged most of the data off of it I would like to boot it one more time, in order to clone it. I have tried the repair tools, but they are not working. My repair disk relates to Windows 8 so that may explain why it is not working. I have access to the msdn Windows 8.1 install. I attempted to use that to do a reset, but the reset function provides the message that "the media inserted is not valid" even though this is the x64 version of the disk. I am at a loss how to proceed. Any suggestions? Given how well eveything has not worked so far, I am reticent to do a complete reinstall till I have the product key off the BIOS, but all the notes I find on this subject relate to running windows apps to obtain this, clearly something I cannot do right now.  In terms of replacing the HDD, can I simply clone the working hdd (assuming I get it to work) and then just replace, or is there anything else I need to worry about. I have gone through the forum but most of the discussion appears to relate to pre-windows 8.1 OS. Thanks

Answer:Z580 DyingHDD, windows 8.1

You should be downloading the Win 8.1 64 bit standard or home version.  Your product key should be automatically detected if the OS originally installed is Win 8.1.As to other thing to worry about is the OKR program. It may no longer work after the cloning process.

Hello Yesterday I've got myself a brand new z580. I picked the version with no system, as I already own a copy of Win8.Everything installed properly, but I'm having one extremely annoying problem that practically prevents me from using this laptop. I mean wireless internet... It connected without any problems just after the installation of Win8. Though after literally few minutes I ended up with the limited connectivity problem. I disconnected from the wireless network and connected again and it worked... for another 10-15 minutes. And it's happening all the time. I've been struggling with this problem since yesterday, so here are the things I've already tried:-installing WLAN drivers for Win8 from Lenovo - I get the message that "The setup program for the target device is not found",-downloading all important updates from Windows Update,-installing the chinese Lenovo drivers as I've seen it mentioned on these forums,-disabling IPv6 (through regedit),-disabling the IP Helper service,-disabling the option to let the system turn off the device to save power,-installing drivers for the WLAN from Windows Update. NONE of the above worked. I'm quite sure it's not the router problem, since the internet works perfectly fine on other 3 computers at home (one is XP and 2 are Win7). I'm totally clueless here and extremely annoyed because I actually can't use my new laptop due to this issue... I'd probably consider using Win7 instead, though my main cau... Read more

Answer:Yet another problem with z580 on Windows 8

Unfortunately this sounds like the same problem we are all experiencing.  There is no fix and the work around is to roll back the drivers.  It is not possible to get power management and wifi working together.  So if you need wifi then you need to eliminate the power management. See http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/S205-Windows-8-wireless-problem/td-p/884375

before I had win7. But I switched on win8 I can not turn on wifi or BT.and I do not have to turn it magager WiFI and BT. lenovo does not have a driver for it

Answer:Z580 windows 8 WIFI, BT

You must install the Windows 7 version of Lenovo Energy Manager for wifi or bluetooth to work.  The Windows 8 version does not allow you to use fn+f5.  Once you install the Windows 7 version, you can push fn+f5 and activate wifi or bluetooth.  There will be compatibility warnings, but it is the only way to turn on wifi and bluetooth at this time.  Do not reinstall the Windows 8 version until Lenovo updates the software, because you will eventually lose wifi or bluetooth again.  Also, you may need to use a program like Universal Extractor for the install files to extract properly. I hope this helps.  It took me lots of searching to find someone who figured this out.

Hi everyone! Been doing some research but couldn't find a solution to my concern.  I purchased an SSD that I want to use to boot windows 7 from in my 2012 z580, along with an ultrabay.  It seems like the general concensus is it's best to place the SSD in the main drive, and if I want to, place the HDD in the ultrabay.  My questions are: 1)  Would I be able to simple run the recovery partition that's factory installed on the current HDD to install windows 7 on the SSD, and be done with it all?  (Being able to use the SSD as my main boot and "C" drive, and the HDD as a media/storage drive) 2)  Can I take out the HDD, install the SSD, leave the optical bay in and do a clean install of windows?  My research seems like the key for my license is in the UEFI Bios.  And if so, then 3) would I have to reinstall all the drivers for my z580 to function? Thanks for all the help!

Hello! I'm thinking about updating my laptop to 8.1. I already had some experience with RTM which was released on MSDN and it was pretty unstable, I had issues with power management, overheating and Bluetooth - all of these worked properly on 8. Is there anyone with Z580 (or similar) with 8.1 on it? I'd like to know if something improved since then.

Answer:Windows 8.1 on Z580 - opinions

I just upgraded to 8.1 It's nice to know that this big update released day after RTM fixes some stuff. Unfortunately, I still have issues with power management. It worked well on both 8, and Linux, but not here. I get only 4h of battery life and my discharge rate is constantly jumping between 10W and 20W - on 8 it was 7-12W. I think it could be an issue with GPU drivers, because I remember having 20W+ discharge rate when using NVidia GPU on Windows 8. Anyone else has this issue?

On a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 Model 2151 Manufactured 5/6/2012

The computer will not boot. It defaults to the automatic Windows Repair menu.

When I first ran Windows Repair, it said that I have a corrupted mfewfpk.sys file, which is associated with McAfee Antivirus software.

Windows startup repair: ?cannot repair this computer automatically?.

I restored the system to the previous restore point and the one before that with no change.

In the command prompt, if sfc/scannow is chosen it says ?There is a system repair pending that requires reboot to complete. If I reboot the computer, I get the same message. I have done this multiple times. It's stuck in a loop.

When I tried to download a Windows 7 ISO file, Microsoft says to contact Lenovo.  Even if I am able to make a bootable Windows 7 USB drive, would I be able to fix the corrupted mfewfpk.sys file?

Hello I have purchased new Laptop z580.It cames with Windows 8..I want to install Windows 7. But unable to install it... I have set Admin Password and then disable Secure Boot.and in a Boot Menu I have set type to Legacy..from UEFI somethingThen I have again one more Option Like Boot Prioritty : in which UEFI Support and Legacy Support Which I have to choose. When I select Legacy Support in Both then try to install Windows 7. but I am getting error like Unable to install Windows on selected Partition.  "windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."  Can anyone suggest right steps to do that.? I have taken recovery of Windows 8 to USB. and I don't want to temper with the Recovery..How to install Windows 7 into Lenovo Z580?

Answer:lenovo Z580 install windows 7

Hello and welcome,

You are probably getting that message because you are running the install in legacy mode but the the HDD is GPT partitioned.

You could boot in UEFI mode (not secure boot) and run the install.

You can run the install as you are in legacy mode but drop to DISKPART and convert the drive to MBR. It might also be sufficient to just select the advanced partitioning options and remove all the partitions.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/windows-cannot-be-install...

Either way you'll lose the on-disk recovery options.  Don't lose that USB drive.

I think that might be the reason that your bluetooth is not supported.

But actually I can increase more to reach until 100% without any changes with meter ...........So every time I restart I have to increase the brightness from keyboard because windows 8 adjust it as 100% but actually it is not !!!!!!!! ( calibrating problem I think) ..   Windows 8

I got taken in by all of the messages from Microsoft insisting that my computer was fully compatible and that I should upgrade to Windows 10. It never dawned on me that I should have checked the Lenovo website first to be sure. After the upgrade I noticed two things: (1) the system seemed to be working pretty well, and (2) I couldn't find Dolby Home Theater v4 (one of my absolute favorite programs). When I finally looked at the Lenovo website I found the following page with the heading, "Dolby Home Theater does not work after Windows 10 upgrade" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht104006).When I checked the "Windows 10 upgrade supported list" (https://support.lenovo.com/documents/ht103535), as the page instructs, I saw that Ideapad Z580 wasn't on it. The page goes on to say that if your machine isn't on the list, "drivers have not been updated for that machine, and Lenovo does not recommended an upgrade to Windows 10." The page continues with possible solutions, but does it make sense to even try them? Then I found another page on the Lenovo site entitled, "Windows 10 Upgrade Guide - IdeaPad and Lenovo Notebook" (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103611). The news here wasn't any better. It says, "The following listed computer models include hardware components not fully compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, upgrading these models to Windows 10 is not recommended." Unfortunately, Z580 is on this list.So there are, according to Lenovo, software and hardwar... Read more

Hi everyone, i updated my Ideapad from Windows 8 to 8.1 (with windows store), and after the process i noted a lot of problems:1) i can't control screen's brightness, loked to the maximal levels (i tried with the normal buttons and also in the control panel, installed the previous version of intel HD graphics and again the new, but nothing)2) wifi connection (always problematic) does not work anymore at home, but in university yes... (i tried here too reinstalling drivers)3) the center of the bottom of the notebook gets hot in a few minutes (maybe where is the graphic chip)4) one key recovery does'n work, so the backup i've done the first day with my computer isn't usableif anyone can help me...
