I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So, to get the easy thing out of the way, this is what I tried already:

- Disabling microphone booster (Works, but mic is to quiet. So MIC booster is required)
- Using other headphones (Also works, but is really annoying, wanne fix this)
- Muting all other sounds (Dident work)

I got these PC specs on Windows 8.1:
Processor Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU B800 @ 1,50GHz 1.50 GHz
Installed RAM 6,00 GB
64-BIT operating system, x64 based processor

Ill explain the problem:
If purchased a headset, its from Maxxter and it is really good! Only problem is that is I skype with my friend, then can here everything from music to games! All the sound that I am hearing, they are hearing to! Only thing they dont hear is themself! If tested this on different people, and like I sad, with a other pair it doesent happen.

I need to fix this, cause im a youtuber and that is so annoying! So please respond fast!

Answer:Maxxter Microphone is Picking up Sound from Headset

Disabling microphone booster (Works, but mic is to quiet. So MIC booster is required)... You may be over-driving the mic. You can't turn up the mic through Windows instead of using MIC BOOSTER?

I have a problem that I hope can be fixed. I just recently bought a new computer and I did not have the same issue on the old computer (which was XP). The one I have now is Windows 7 64 bit home premium. Same headset and everything. Not using a sound card either, just using an integrated one.

The problem I am having is this: when talking to someone in Skype, my microphone is somehow picking up any output audio that my headset is receiving. For example when I'm playing any game or listening to music and talking to someone, they can hear everything that is happening with crystal clearness. This was not happening on my old computer with the same headset. So I'm guessing it's a Windows 7 thing but I have combed every option and I just don't know what to do. They say it sounds like I'm not even using a headset at all and people tell me to turn off my speakers and put on my headset all the time when this isn't the case!

It's not because my sound is on max either, if I have the sound at 20% they hear it at the exact same level on top of listening to me talk. I have combed tons of forums and even found another thread with the same issue, but it was outdated from 2 years ago and no fixes for Windows 7.

I realllly need some help. Any is appreciated.

Hello

So three days ago I wiped all of my drives and installed Windows 10. I have a Corsair Vengenace 2100 headset. I installed the realtek drivers from ASUS download section for my motherboard and then I installed the headset drivers.

The problem is that my headset does not record anything through the microphone if I set it to be the default device for audio output. If I have my other computer speakers as the default output device my microphone works just fine.

This goes for all the USBs in the back of the motherboard. The headset works just great if I plug in the wireless reciever in the front of the computer.

I have tried to reinstall the drivers multiple times and checked a bunch of different settings in the sound manager in windows but nothing seems to work.

Have also googled all kinds of things but nothing seems to relate to my problem.

I do not have any external sound card plugged into my computer.

Thanks for any help provided!

EDIT: Can be closed as I found the win 10 forum after I made the thread. Sorry!

Hi iBSOADed and welcome to TenForums,

First of all, you shouldn't have had to worry about installing any drivers after installing Windows 10 as Windows should do that automatically.

Have you tried using the Corsair Gaming Headset Setup program in the Downloads section of this page? Vengeance® 2100 Dolby 7.1 Wireless Gaming Headset

Hi everyone,
So, my computer uses my built-in microphone instead of my headset's (a Razer Kraken Pro - in case this is helpful information) for sound recording and chatting in games. I have followed recommended procedures throughout the web, but none of them seemed to help me in any way. Can someone assist me?

Hello I have a t61, and I am wondering how to disable the built-in microphone, and still being able to use my headset. It is rather troublesome to have a Skype conversation, and the other side being able to hear you type all the time, can anyone offer any ideas? I've searched Google and lenovo documentation but havent been able to find anything. Do i really have to take the machine apart and take out the microphone just to get rid of it? /tbell

Answer:Disable built in microphone, but still use microphone in headset

Sorry, I guess I can't answer your question directly, except to say something must not be working right. When I plug in an external microphone, the internal one mutes.  This is for a T60p running Windows Vista Business. If the computer isn't working correctly, another option might be to use a camera that has a built in microphone for Skype, or use a bluetooth microphone.  I have used my Jawbone for Skype calls, and it works very well, but it doesn't have a mute function.Don Mannino

By that I mean it had this odd static in my and speakers. I'm assuming this is from my PC, as they are making similar noises. NOt the static of course, but by pattern, and other sounds. Help? Just got the Creative Fatal1ty headset, and when i tried to talk to friends on skype they couldn't hear me. I tried disabling the internal mic and changing around in the skype settings, but nothing has worked. I have checked the mute on the mic and its off. I just don't know what to do. :C The mic is enabled in the sound menu, and it's set as standard unit for communication.

Any kind of help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Go to the Sound Panel, Recording section. RIGHT click on the microphone icon and then LEFT click Properties. One of the tabs should allow you to set the microphone level.

My mic keeps playing not only my own voice but the sounds coming from everything producing sound on my computer, its not an issue that I can hear it its that people I am talking to can hear it on whatever application Im using its been doing this for the past 2 headsets and it started happening when I switched from the first pair.

I have windows 10 and have been trying all kinds of settings changes in attempt to fix it but it still picks it up.

extra info - Stereo mix is disabled and "listen to this device" is unchecked

even when I turn my pick up sounds on the physical headset control itself to "off" it still picks up the sounds that are not going into my mic

I uninstalled my mic driver and the issue is still there

My old broken headset that worked before is also having the issue now that I just plugged it in.

Edit: I also just noticed if I blow into the mic I can hear it also if im loud

I have a almost broken headset, but the microphone still works fine, The microphone is connected on the wire right before the headset, Its not actually touching the headset itself.

Would this microphone still work if the headset was cut off?

Sorry but I can't manage to take a photo but

Answer:Will a Headset microphone still work if I cut it off the Headset?

Is the microphone actually supported by the headset, by that I mean when the set is on your head is the microphone carried close to your mouth so you have both hands free. If this is the case then cutting off the headset will mean the microphone will not have any way of being held near your mouth.
If you cut it off you will have to be very careful you don't cut the wires for the microphone & it's possible that there is a common return wire for the earpieces & the microphone in the form of a shielded cable, so it would be very difficult, but if you have skills in this area it could be done.

I'm running Windows X64, with an Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus Motherboard (Onboard audio chipset ADI AD1988B) and the microphone will not work properly. The microphone does not connect through USB, but directly into the sound card. I have two mic jacks as well - one on the sound card and one on the front of the tower. When I test it through the Windows recorder, or through a program such as Ventrilo, it only picks up static. Both jacks produce the same results. It is not an issue with the actual microphone, as my husband plugged his mic into my machine, and received the same result. Windows THINKS it is working, as when tested, it does register sound. However, as I said, it only picks up static, no matter how close it is to our mouths.

I searched the system Help topics for "microphone" and found instruction on how to configure a microphone. To test, it said to go to Control Panel > Speech > Speech Recognition. However, the "Speech Recognition" tab does not exist. There is only a Text To Speech tab. So, I am unable to follow those instructions.

Both my husband and I are very confused as to why this is not working. He knows more about computers than I, and he has tried everything he can think of. So, if anyone has any further ideas, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

EDIT: I'm actually going to try re-installing the SoundMAX HD software from the motherboard installation disc. I don't think it was ever installed properly.

Answer:Microphone only picking up static

Hi Jaleenieweenie,

If reinstalling the drivers does not help, then you might check these settings.

1. Open Control Panel. (Classic View)
2. Click on the Sound icon.
3. Click on the Recording tab.
4. Right click on the microphone you have set as the default. (Green check)
5. Click Properties.
6. Make sure that you have it set like these screenshots.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I use Windows 8.1.So on my PC the sound is being weird, firstly,my headset is recognized as speakers, secondly, the microphone isn't picking up any sound (I use a headset with a microphone). When i plug it in, it gets recognized as microphone, but if i speak, no matter the sound, or boost level, it doesnt pick up any sound. Tested the microphone on Win 8.1 laptop works perfectly, on my Win 8.1 PC is the issue.

Is the problem with drivers? or any ideas?

I have recently purchased an AT2020 microphone along with a Scarlett 2i2 Interface. I have installed all drivers and made sure that my default mic was set to the interface. When I press record in Audacity, no sound is picked up at all. I have checked other recording programs to make sure Audacity was not the problem. None of them could pick up my voice or any sound I made. I restarted my computer, checked the gain on the interface, just about everything, but I still can't get any sound. Nothing is working, no matter what I look up. I need serious assistance. I just need this AT2020 to pick up sound.

Hey, I'm not sure when but my Z50's inbuilt microphone just stopped working, it was working last week but today I checked and its not picking up any sound at all. The device is enabled, I've tried windows troubleshooter and I've tried reinstalling the Driver software but its still not picking up any audio at all. Is the problem hardware related? I hope not because its relatively new, bought it a little over a month ago.

Hi

Sorry if this has been posted before but some searching hasn't
revealed any results

I have just bought a headset with microphone for use with skype.
I also have a usb webcam with a microphone, but the microphone isn't
as good as the headsets.
When I have the webcam plugged in the headsets microphone doesn't
work, I guess the webcam's takes priority. Fine.
When I remove the webcam (which will be the norm) the headset
microphone doesn't then work. I have to restart the machine before it
does.

I've tried control panel->sounds and audio devices->voice->voice
recording and I can see that there are 2 options when the webcam is
plugged in but only one when not. Nothing I do here seems to help
Suggestions?

thanks for any help

Hi all,

I am trying to get my microphone (a Samsung earbud mic) to work. My computer can hear everything that is "loud", like when I tap the microphone on the desk or when I breathe heavily into the mic. But the mic can't hear my voice at all. The microphone boost is maxed out (at 30 dB) and the microphone is not muted. I have looked for several hours online but no one else seems to have posted a similar problem. Any ideas?

Answer:Microphone picking up sounds, but not voice.

Exactly what do you have? What type of plug is on the mic? If it was made for phones, and some game consoles it will have a "three" connector (Tip, Ring1, Ring2, Sleeve) rather than the standard 1/8" stereo (Tip, Ring Sleeve) connector that is used for PC mics.

If it is the three connector plug you will have to get an adapter to make it work.

I'm currently using an iPad connected to my PC with an AUX cord, using a certain app makes it function like a microphone. I haven't had any issues with it until the other day, I turned my PC on and discovered the microphone was making a loud buzzing sound and my voice was almost completely drowned out. Any sound that plays on my computer is echoed through my microphone.

I've tried different cables, an old headset etc. and the problem is still there.
I've tried plugging my PC into a different outlet (in the same room though) and the problem is still there.
I've tried using my microphone as a Line In and the problem is still there.
I've restarted everything several times.
It's not my microphone itself either, simply having an AUX cord plugged into my PC causes the buzzing and echoing, whether it's connected to something on the other end or not.

I've also noticed that touching metal parts of my cable, my iPad, my wall socket or even other things plugged into the outlets causes an increase in buzzing. For example, I took a random charger and plugged it into the wall, next to my PC. Upon touching the metal end of the charger the buzz from my PC's microphone increased!

Thanks in advance for your help.

HiI am trying to set up Skype on my W540 running Windows 8.1. I can get video to work however audio is a problem. The integrated microphone is picking up onboard noises and onboard noises (such as keyboard typing) however it does not pick up my voice. I have also tried an external microphone with the same outcome. Both devices are shown as "Realtek High Definition Audio" devices in the Control Panel>Sound>Recording windowI believe all of the system drivers and BIOS are current.I have tried:- Unchecking all of the sound effects- Uninstalling and reinstalling the internal microphone- Tweaking input options (e.g. amplificaiton)- Running Windows audio recording troubleshootingI have not found a solution yet.Is this a known problem. What else can I try?Tim

Help!
Although this is not a Vista problem (I think) I posted it here. Feel free to move it to a more fitting place.

Now then...

When I turned on my computer this morning and proceeded to talk to my friend on Skype. My mic didn't work. I thought it was just some random problem that could be fixed by unplugging and plugging/restarting etc. but to make a long story short after many hours I found out that the mic is picking up the sound output from my computer and nothing else. I've tried plugging it into different jacks etc. but nothing works. I tried another mic and it worked. I would think that this was a problem with the mic but since it was working perfectly the night before and nothing has changed points at a random fail on Vistas/soundcard's part. So before going out and murdering everyone I see in rage I decided to post this here and hope for some help.
Microphone: Logitech Fatal1ty Gaming Headset.
Soundcard: Realtek HD audio manager (came bundled with my Gigabyte mo-bo)

Thanks in advance and I hope for a fast reply!

Hello everyone. Im new to the forums, and was hoping you gents could help me with a problem i am having. My microphone is picking up audio from my headphones, and i have tried everything i can think of, and it is still doing it. I tested it out in the voice recorder with windows, and sound from other programs gets recorded, very loudly. I know enough about computers to know my mic sensitivity isnt too high or anything. I have an Asus P5Ld2 motherboard for my sound, and have double checked i have the latest drivers. Does anyone know what i can do to fix this?

Thanks in advance for any help i receive.

Answer:Microphone picking up audio from headphones

You probably just need to mute the Microphone under Playback in the Volume Control. Bring up the Volume Control by double clicking on your gray volume icon in the system tray. You should see Microphone with an box to mute it. This doesn't mute the microphone recording just the microphone playback, thats on a different part of the Volume Control. You may also need to mute or unselect the recording source. With the Volume Control open I believe there's an Options menu in the top left hand corner. Choose that, and I'm a little foggy at what to choose next but it should be self explanatory. You want to change to Recording and make sure ONLY microphone is selected as the input or recording source, not WAV or anything else.

Basically, my headphones are plugged in, they seem to be picking up sound perfect, but for some reason, my comp doesn't seem to be detecting a device to record, even though the headphones have a mic attached. My headphones didn't come with a disk for drivers, nor does the site. There basically plug and play, and work fine on my laptop.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot. I've also checked all volume settings etc and upped/checked any boxes that needed to be, but still, no luck.

So as title say, I'll list a more detailed description: my microphone is barely picking up sound when it is a little far from me (it works fine if i hold it up to my mouth and talk, but if i put the headset by my ear it will barely pick up anything at all) I have a cm haf case with frontpanel jacks, the connection have both HD and ac97, I plugged in ac 97 (should i have plugged both in? because the mobo only have slots for 1 front panel) also plugging it straight into the mobo from the back doesn't work either. I tried deleting and reinstalling the drive from both VIA site and MSI site (VIA is the audiodriver company, MSI board), I also tried to do a fresh install of windows (was gonna do it anyway since i got a new HD). No luck for both of them, I am running out of ideas, would it just be because my mobo is bad? since it picks up sound fine when im holding it close would it be because some default noise cancellation or something?

Answer:microphone picking up very little sound, checked basic causes

With a new or at least recent motherboard, you should be using the HD audio interface. However, I don't know if that will solve your problem or not. With the HD, the integrated audio chip can sense what you have plugged in.

The mic apparently works OK when close, suggesting it could be the mic rather than the sound card. Can you get or borrow another known good mic and try that just to see. I assume you have the mic volume control set to maximum in the Sound Panel. Some sound cards also have a mic boost, check to see if yours has this as it will boost the input volume level too.

I use skype to talk to a friend, and recently, her microphone has started transmitting a lot more background noise than normal. She uses a headset ( Razer Barracuda HP-1 ).

I can hear her voice at an appropriate volume, but I can also hear everything else at an even louder volume. I hear typing and mouse clicking at least as loud as her voice, and anything coming from her headset earphones, even when her earphones are set to the minimum volume so that its barely audible to her. She has mic boost on, and when she turns it off, she becomes nearly inaudible.

I suspect she has some sort of setting activated to record line out, or her mic has some sort of wide pickup.

What are some common reasons for this behavior?

Sorry for my bad english, also there isnt any microphone section on the forum front page so ill post it here.

Yesterday i was looking why my usb input wouldnt work and why is it that my microphone is making random static noise and have a very very low audio pick up.
I fixed the usb situation just by plugging it in a a 3.1 port.
Here is my setup in order of how its plugged. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01B65BMAO connected with https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00EKR4M1M to https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B004LWH79A then the output is connected with https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0051QLXAO (1/4th plug from the preamp to XLR male into scarlett) into https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00MTXU2DG using an usb cable https://cdn.solarbotics.com/products...s-dscn2917.jpg to my computer
Pictures of my setup http://imgur.com/a/73RwU

The microphone is not even 2 feet away from me and yet this is how it sounds like https://instaud.io/pEE

Ive tried moving it as it was suggested it could be electrical interferances, i tried plugging it in both the preamp only , the interface only , both , with diferent cables ... the result is always the same , random static and low audio pick up.
Someone know how to fix this mess?

Answer:800$ of equipment and my microphone is still not picking up audio properly

Hi and Welcome to TSF! - I liked the cat picture included in your images. Nice touch.

As for your issues. Your microphone needs to go through a lot of equipment before the signal is reaching your PC.

You tried different cable connections, but what if you use this to plug directly into your PC? https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0051QLXAO

Also you may be getting electrical problems. Do you use any ferrite beads?

Answer:Lenovo y510p Microphone not picking up sound

Hi JekkoJay,

Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!

Check under control panel / Hardware and sound / Sound / and go to the Recording tab.
Make sure that your mic is the default device with a check mark on it
Spoiler (Highlight to read)

Also highlight the microphone and click properties on the lower left
Check the levels and microphone boost.

If still does not work try reinstalling the Audio driver, then check the mic.

Hi everyone, I owned a fully functional Lenovo X200 Tablet 7449-FXG. After almost 5 years of usage I decided I needed an upgrade, so I bought an X201 Tablet motherboard (with an i7-640LM 2.13GHz processor, the model number says '3113-96U.'Everything is sorta working well - new chipset drivers installed successfully & all that... Because of the Intel 5300 WiFi not being on the X201 hardware whitelist I had to use a modified 1.32 BIOS. Now, my problem is - the microphone is not picking up any sound at all. It is enabled in BIOS, the Device Manager is not showing any problematic hardware. I installed the Conexant 20561 drivers and the speakers work just fine. I'm using Windows 7 64bit. If anyone had any idea, what else can I check in Windows' settings, or what driver to install, I'll be glad to hear it. If you need more infromation for troubleshooting I'l be happy to help. Thanks for any answers! ~eidamPS: I know that mixing model parts is always risky and can produce unexpevted results, but performance-wise this has been a good upgrade. I'm just sorry about the microphone situation - since no problems are actually being reported, I'm still hoping for a (clever) software solution.

Hi all,

Fairly computer literate when it comes to the everyday running of a computer but am having big problems with my inbuilt microphone on my Sattelite A350/0H model.

Whenever I try to talk to anyone using Msn, all they can hear is static and a small amount of my voice. I have currently got the microphone boost at 0dbs and this has helped a bit, but is there anything else i can be changing the levels of?

I have windows vista 32 bit and really dnt want to buy an external microphone!!

Recorded playback of my voice is basically all static as well!!

Answer:Inbuilt Microphone for Satellite A350/07h picking up static

Hi

To be honest I never had a problem with the microphone as yet so I can?t say much about this but in your case I would start with driver updates...
You should update the webcam driver because the microphone is a part of it and the sound driver. Both you can download here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/ > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

If it doesn?t work you should also try updating your BIOS. You can find it on the Toshiba website too.

By the way: The Vista version are you using, is it preinstalled from Toshiba or did you make your own installation?

I'm at my wit's end with this one.

Somehow, any sound output from Vista is picked up by the two microphone devices in the Recording Devices window. No, this is not Stereo Mix- the two channels for front mic and back mic are getting the sound. The microphone slots still work, i.e., if I have no sounds playing and I speak, I can record it into Audacity. However, if a single sound plays, my speech is overridden for the duration of the sound. The output-to-microphone problem happens even when there is not a microphone in either slot.

Here's the kicker. When I turn up the volume for the microphone playback, the front mic gives me an extremely loud buzz (think "vacuum cleaner" with less whine), and the back mic gives me nothing but static and noise.

I have a Frisby FMC-220 standing microphone and it worked perfect until a recent update a few days ago. now it won't pick up my voice unless I open the properties and set the boost to +30.0 dB

I updated my Realtek HD driver but it did not fix the issue.

So my L655-S5150 just suddenly stopped picking up sound. I tried to update but it said I have the most recent update already. I went to the control panel > sound> recording tab to test the mic and it only seems to respond when I tap the back of my laptop.

Doesn't respond to my voice or any other sound.

Help please?

So I am currently using  a headset with a build in mic and it's not picking up the headsets mic but instead it is using the laptops mic which is extremely annoying. The headsets mic doesn't even show up in the playback options as you can see here  As for my sound drivers I have this installed

Any thoughts on why it wouldn't be picking up the mic? My laptop has a single 3.5mm port.

I recently built a new PC and today I first plugged in my headset to play some games but realized the microphone attached to the headset would not work. I can hear the game but not speak to people. I tried plugging into the microphone jack but then I couldn't hear anything and the microphone would hardly pick anything up. I then tried to plug in my headset at the back in all three Jacks but they gave me a combination of not working at all, then only the mic working but not picking anything up, and only speakers working. The jack on the headset and my pc are all 3.5mm.

Basically I've gotten used to wearing headsets the wrong way around when gaming. This wasn't a problem unti lately I got one with a micrphone to participate in clan matches.

I play first person shooters but if I wear it the correct way i can't hear where people are located so it is vital I have to wear it round the wrong way. Of course my microphone points backwards so is totally useless.
My soundcard is a realtek high definition audio device.

I'd like to find a software fix to basically switch around the sound of the headset. So left sounds into the right and vice versa. Just simply switching the current 2 directions around so when people are on the left I hear them on the left! and if they are on the right to hear them on the right. with RealTek audio manager i can set it to 7.1 surround or just normal sterio which is 2 directional. Either way the people aren't heard in there correct place.

Please, I will greatly GREATLY appreciate if somebody can help me. I've tried various headsets and all have this problem.

I have recently purchased a combined stereo headset and microphone (Packard Bell PB-HS200), with a view to using them with my home PC (running XP home), so that I can play with one of my Christmas presents (a french language course)! The only problem is I can?t make the damn microphone work! I know that it does work as I have successfully recorded myself on a colleagues laptop (running win 98).One of the problems is that I have a six speaker set up so the mic jack is in fact a line out under 6-channel configuration. When I unplug all the speakers and plug in the headphone and microphone jacks, I can get sound out but nothing is being recorded!I have checked obvious things (like ensuring the mic is not muted and that it is selected under recording control!). Two things I have noticed is that under ?Sounds and Audio devices ? Sound recording? the advanced button is greyed out, and under ?recording control ? advanced? the tone controls are greyed out. Do these have any bearing on this problem? Before the whole lot goes out of the window is it possible to buy a USB headset with microphone and would it be possible to use these without having to disconnect the speakers as this would seem to be a possible way to go? I have to solve this problem well before the summer hols (or go to Cornwall instead!).Any help advice or comments will (as usual with my problems!) be very much appreciated.

Answer:Help with headset and microphone

You can't just unplug the working 6.1 devices and expect the mic to work - the socket will still have sound coming out of it.You need to re-configure the way the sockets work, using the supplied software (usually click on the "Sound Effect" icon in the system tray.)

I've had this problem with multiple headsets--basically, the microphone picks up sounds from the headset. If the sound is loud enough to be picked up by the microphone(which is as far away as it can extend--it's built into the headset), it transmits as feedback--the louder the sound, the more painful the feedback. I'm convinced this is a problem with my onboard sound(either the quality of the hardware isn't good enough or the software is improperly configured). I'm using Realtek HD Audio drivers, up to date. As far as I can tell, i've only had this problem since I installed Windows 7.
There's also a consistent hiss sound when the microphone is transmitting(I test in Ventrilo by using two instances of myself, both transmitting and receiving the same sounds), though i've minimized it using the equalizer utility. This happens whether or not the microphone is plugged into the headset(it's detachable).

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Answer:Microphone/Headset feedback

After talking with a friend, he recommended I try vent normalization(ventrilo is the only program I use where I get this reverberation) using the compressor feature and changing specific gains. This limits what my inbound volume can be--even if someone is shouting. This fixed my problem. Not only that, but I was also able to use any volume---even complete maximum volume--and get 0 reverberation/static when others speak(so even though the sound is louder than before, because of the normalization there's no reverb). The setting that worked for me was:Gain 5Attack .01Release 498Threshold -30Ratio 100Pre Delay 4Figured I'd post this if someone else ran into this problem.Ventrilo:http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

Hello Eightforums.

Firstly, my problem is that my headset microphone is not working correctly. As my laptop (Lenovo g505s) only has 1 audio jack, but my headset has 2 cables (green and pink), i bought a 3.5mm headset splitter adapter that splits audio output to 3.5m headphone and 3.5 mic jack. Having plugged it in, I am getting both my internal microphone sounds along with my headset microphone sounds through my headset.

Answer:Headset Microphone not working

Oh, it seems the problem got solved.

My solution i found on the internet was to go to device manager and then under sound, video and game controllers, i uninstalled the sound drivers. (in my case, AMD High Def Audio Device and Conexant Smart Audio HD)

After both were uninstalled, I restarted my laptop. Then on boot up, the small speaker on bottom right on the desktop has a little red circle on it. I troubleshooted the problem (right click speaker, top option) and it installed something (i assume both the 2 sound drivers I had just uninstalled, since i just checked device manager after it had finished installing and both my previous sound drivers were present). And it seems to work now.

I still don't entirely understand how it worked, but that was my solution.

Good afternoon all.
I just reloaded my OS over the weekend and now I seem to be having issues with my Headset/Microphone. The chief complaint is when trying to use the mic over in any app (ventrilo, ingame voip), other users say there is lots of feedback, distortion, etc.
I really have no idea what could be causing this issue. I have tried loading the latest chipset drivers for the sound device, changed settings for the mic to no avail. One thing I did find odd was when the mic is plugged in, and I have the mic volume up quite a bit, I can talk into the mic and hear what is said through my pc speakers.
Now I do not remember this happening in the past, prior to the OS reload, but I believe this is somehow related to my problem. Also, when plugging in the headset I can hear a pop in the speakers which I also found odd. The headset itself is using a RCA plug (I guess that would be the correct type). I am using a Socket 939 Abit KN8-SLI motherboard with onboard sound.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hello

I've recently came across some issues with my headset's microphone.
I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and Realtek HD Audio Manager.

The problems are the following:

- microphone recording volume is very low
- the max volume (in Realtek Manager) that I can set is about 60%, any higher and I sound like a robot, another problem here is that it doesn't stay that way
- it worked fine till a few days ago
- came across this issue before but it kinda went away on itself, sometimes the mic boost would activate and that would screw up my voice
- tried both the front panel jacks and the back panel ones, same problem

Any ideas?

Hello everybody

I know this question has been asked many many many times but after spending a fair amount of hours trying to find a solution, after trying each and every suggestion i have found on other posts.. i cant solve my microphone problem and it is for that that i seek your help.

Here is my problem : I cant get the hearset microphone ( Trust GHS 303) to work. It is always the integrated one that is used.

I have tried to update the drivers, i have verified that the headset works in my desktop and it does
noting is muted and all volumes are at the max.

I had Realtek installed and i tried that popular solution of going to the advance settings on the yellow folder... and blah blah but problem is that doesnt matter wich version of Realtek i install.... i can get the damn folder nor the advance settings....

As you can see when i go to the recording devices it says the mic is not plugged in ( even when it does) additionally when i have Realtek installed this option that now is grey doesnt even show

I dont know what else to try. Does any of you maybe know how can i get the mic to be detected so i can use it as default?

Many thanks in advance

Answer:Headset microphone not working

a usb headset actually doesnt use your sound card, it uses a virtual windows sound device. In order to use the new headset you have, you will have to make sure your sound card has the proper drivers installed. If you know your make/model of pc, or if it's homegrown, you can try and find the drivers. Or if you need assistance, the best way is to attach an everest hardware report to your next post.
you can download everest here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
once installed, at the top select reports/report wizard. select hardware information only. and save it as a text file to somewhere on your computer where you will find it easily.
next, attach it to a post, directions on how to attach: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86880

Hi all, cant seem to get my headset and microphone to work! I have windows XP, a soundmax sound card, which i have a 5.1 logitech speakers connected to it. Below this is the pink and green buttons for microphone and speakers, also have two ports at the front of the pc for the same thing. When i select the microphone in soundmax, a yellow triangle comes up with a black exclamination mark in it, so not sure why that happens. Also playing online games, can hear sound through the normal speakers but not the headset. So do i have do something with the normal speakers to use the headset and microphone or is it something totally different i should be doing? Tried all the other windows sound options but still no use!Can anyone help please? thanks

Answer:headset and microphone not working

when hedphones are plugged in windows should automaticly transfer the sound outputted to the headphone device. if the sound is still coming out of the speakers this probably means that windows is not regestering the fact that the headphones are plugged in try plugging them into all headphone ports on your pc. as for the microphone, if you double click the sound icon in the botom righthand corner of the screen (next to the clock) then you should get a dialog window one of these options is line in, however this will only output the audio not neceserily chang how it is being inputed. to test the micrphone try recording from it in windwos sound recorder, (start > programs > accessories > entertainment >soundrecorder) and then you should be able to see an oscillating line if there is sound being recorded. if no sound is being recorded, check your microphone, and then if it is ok try checking for (updated) sound card drivers.

So I bought a new headset the sound plays through well, but that isn't my problem the thing is It's not detected so It's not in my recording devices.

My laptop also has a build-in microphone (that doesn't show up in recording devices either).

So I can't even disable my build-in microphone, or find my headset mic so how am I supposed to make it work..?

Any solution? , Thank you for your time.

When I go on vent for World of Warcraft, they say they can hear my background and stuff, and I probably have a internal mike of some sort. Do I need to turn that off or something? If so how do it do that?

I have the AC97 realtek audio drive, not sure if that helps, but it seems to be where all the sound options are.

Hi all,

This has me so stumped, I'm usually pretty good with my own tech issues but I could really do with some expert opinions on this.

I have a Creativity Fatality gaming headset, which is not a USB set, it's a normal green/pink jack set. I haven't used it in a couple of months but it always worked fine on this system before, and I've not altered any settings since the last time I used it, that I can think of, but when I plug it in the microphone just doesn't work.

The headphones work fine, which is making me think it's not the soundcard that's the issue, and I tried the headset on a friend's laptop and the mic works perfectly, so am thinking it is some kind of setting/driver issue but I have no idea what.

I have updated my Realtek sound card drivers to the latest ones. The only weird thing that might give someone a clue is when I plug my mic jack into the pink socket the Realtek sound manager thingyamebob recognises it as speakers, and when I plug the green jack in it doesn't recognise that at all.

I have done the standard stuff such as checking audio devices, volumes and stuff. When selecting the device for recording the microphone is not an option at all, it just shows the Realtek soundcard device.

Does anyone have any ideas that I've not thought about I can try? Any help gratefully received.

Sally

Answer:Headset microphone not working...

Welcome to the forum This may sound stupid simple but there's a switch near the volume control to turn on the microphone just double check its on.

Have you configured your audio devices?Control panel, sound, right click your sound card and configure, run the wizard and select 2 channel stereo speakers.

Go into your realtek control panel also and make sure its set to stereo and make sure your mic is enabled there,if you right click the icon in your taskbar you should be able to configure it.

Could you post your operating system and the make and model of your computer if it has one,the model of your soundcard if you know it.

Go to control panel, system, device manager are there any yellow exclamation marks?

Whenever I try to use the microphone in the headset I recently bought, it picks up no audio. The recording-device manager thimg marks it (Mic in front panel (black), as unplugged, even though it very clearly is not. I have, and use, a splitter to with both the microphone plug and actual headphones plug plugged into it, and that into the (only) audio jack on my computer, and even the USB cable on it plugged in. It doesn't do anything but make it light up; but it's plugged in because it makes me feel like I've tried even more stuff. I've tried restarting my computer, uninstalling and re-installing all the drivers related to sound, and really every suggestion the first 3 pages of Googling the problem has brought up, including using the troubleshooting for recording devices in contorl panel, which also says the problem is that it's not plugged in. Which it still is.  The painted-on label next to the actual audio jack is also labeled for a headset; the headphone icon there very clearly has a microphone stick-thing on it, and they work perfectly fine to hear through, they just don't listen. Is there anything I can do to make the microphone work?

Now my headset will not work. I called the guy and he said "I told you, you need drivers." He did NOT tell me that. My headset worked before he serviced my computer.

What is the problem?

Answer:Microphone / Headset does not work

Check in the bios to see if they are enabled, you should not need any drivers. If you are using the font panel jacks look to see if nay wires are loose in the case, front panel jacks are plugged into the board. You need to look at your MOBO layout to check things out, if you do not have it you can find it on the manufacturers site.

Hello,
I just bought a new Razer headset and I can't seem to get the microphone working. This is the first microphone i've used on this computer. The headset is http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.169415800.
When I built my computer about 2 years ago the CD that came with the motherboard wouldn't work so I downloaded the audio and lan drivers from the motherboard site and everything worked fine. I think that may be the reason my headset microphone will not work now. I just re-downloaded and installed the audio and chipset drivers from http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pr...ilID=897&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=16&LanID=0, but the microphone still will not work. I already checked on its not set to mute on the headset itself.
Is this a driver issue, if so where can I get a driver that will work? Or is it just some option in windows that I have to turn on to allow it to work?
The motherboard is the ECS G31T-M7 with windows 7 64 bit. Intel 2 quad core with nvidia gtx 260 if any of that helps.

Answer:headset microphone not working

If you have access to another PC test the Razer on it; it's possible the mic. itself could be defective.

My experience has been that ECS is (at best) marginal on driver support. If the Razer tests OK and you're tired of playing driver detective it might be worth biting the bullet and purchasing a decent basic sound card.

Hello I'm Brad, brand new to the Tech Guy forums. :>

I'm having a problem with my GameCom Plantronics microphone that is attached to the headset. My computer seems to only sometimes recognize that the microphone is on, and when it does recognize the mic, I get major white noise when i talk in programs like Ventrilo.

My sound card drivers are all up to date and am using High definition audio device sound card.

I don't think it matters that much but for those who want to know I also have a ATI radeon HD 4800 Series video card and am running a Intel Quad Core 2.40Ghz processor.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Hi guys, been having a real problem lately. I bought a nice new corsair vengeance 1300 headset to go with my 600t case. However when i plug them in to the front jack the mic doesn't work. I know the mic works because i have tested in the back panel. Also when i plug them into the front panel i get the message for mic and the message for heasdset in.
any idea what the problem could be?

cheers

Answer:Headset microphone problems

Double check the wiring to the front panel connector on the motherboard for a start. Almost sounds like it could be a crossed wire there. Also make sure if you used the HD audio connection that the (I assume) onboard audio is set to HD audio in the bios. Same applies if you used the AC'97 connector, seeing as the case has both from the front panel.

Is there an adapter to permit one to use an existing Plantronics headset/mic with two plugs? If so, where might one find it? Thanks!

I have a pic that allows both a headphone and mic connection. I went through troubleshooting and everything checks fine. The computer recognizes the mic and is registering sound output, but as soon as I go to record or talk to other people, they hear nothing. It's not just the one headset either. Please help this is the most frustrating thing I've had to deal with on my otherwise solid pc

Answer:Headset microphone not working

Check the RECORDING device. Stereo Mix should be set as the Default recording device. Most programs use that as the audio source.

Posting (Filling in) "My Computer Specs" really helps us to try and help you. Without it all we can do is offer general suggestions or guess.

Ok so i've been researching and i can not figure out what happened to my mic. its a logitech and I used it about 4 months ago and it worked fine. but when i try it now, it doesn't pick up anything ...it works on a computer with XP but not on mine with vista. Apparently one of the Vista updates messed it up.
-its plugged in the right jacks, i've tried the 2 different sets on my computer, still nothing
-I have sound through the headset speakers'
-In the "Setup Microphone" under "Speech Recognition" where you speak the sentence, the Green Bar doesnt move unless i have the Microphone Boost at max but even then it just bounces a little and doesnt pick up any sound.

-**I've tested it on a computer with XP and it worked**
-The drivers are up to date, im using Realtek HD Audio
- It's not muted, everything that says Microphone i have up
- it says the mic is working properly, ...but not so much

- i've tried everything i can think of and still nothing.

*the only thing i see that i think is different is that in "Playback" tab in the "Sound" options it only says speakers, not headset/headphones etc. Under the "Recording" tab, it has the mic there and it says its working, but its not

Answer:headset microphone not working

Hi lloydikins, welcome to the forums.

Can you do me a favour and right click the empty space where playback devices are shown, now click on "show disabled devices", this should bring up something called stereo mix, right click that and enable, now... With the headset on, can you hear anything from the microphone when you talk?

Also, the operating system doesn't show a headset as you're using analog jacks, it's just an audio device, it cannot detect a headset through analog jacks...

Hello,
I purchased a razer carcharias gaming headset around four months ago with the purpose of using it for gaming as well as as a general pair of headphones for my computer. Yesterday, while I was using it on a skype call, the microphone just stopped working. After going into my computers microphone settings, I have learned that the microphone IS being recognized, but not picking up any voice.

I just need help, because I am not sure if this is a hardware problem, or a problem with the computer itself.

I have a Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset , the audio work's but I cannot get the mic to work.
I have a Creative soundblaster 5.1 live soundcard and a abit fatal1ty fp-in9 sli m/b. Audio works on both soundcard and on-board sound on the m/b , but not the mic .... I know some basics to computer's but I'm stuck here.

Answer:Headset Microphone not working

Looking at this headset, on a YouTube video, the mic portion plugs into the headset. Has this ever worked? If not, I would contact Creative as there may be a problem. Or, if you have access to another PC (a friend's) you could try it on that to see if it works.

As you have both on-board sound and a separate sound card, if you want to use the SoundBlaster you should disable the on-board in the BIOS. Having two can cause conflicts and things to not work. In addition Windows only allows one default audio playback device. Also, where are you plugging in? If its the front panel of the PC case, what audio do you have connected to the front panel? From the motherboard or from the SoundBlaster? Again, if you are using the SoundBlaster but have the motherboard audio connected to the front panel it won't work.

I have a Fatal1ty motherboard in one of my PC's, it is an ASRock Z77 Professional Fatal1ty.

I race online and I would like to use my headset for communication. When i use the mic it works but the person I'm talking with comes over my speakers instead of the headset. It is plugged in correctly as I can tell. How can I fix this p[roblem??Thanks.Harrison

Answer:Microphone headset problem

Does your mic have two connectors that need to be plugged into your computer?  I think you may need to unplug your speakers and plug a jack for incoming mic sound to that jack.

Hello,I recently bought an Aspire E5-573 and I use a new headset Sennheiser PC3 and a audio in/out splitter.I have a lot of background noise when recording - on another laptop I can just check the "noise suppression" and it works fine - but here the only enhancement options are "personal call", "recording" and "disable" - they don't solve my problem.I tried installing all the latest drivers from RealTek but I cannot get the noise suppresion option... I see this laptop is running ALC255 whereas my other one is running ALC269 ?Is there a way to get this noise suppresion option? Statis is quite significant and prevents me from making any quality recordings.Attached is a pic of what I see and what I was hoping to get....Is there a way I can change the sound effect provider to get the RealTek one and the noise suppression option?thanks in advance for your help and regards,

I just recieved a new headset.
Sennheiser PC 150

The sound is awsome, however everybody says my microphone is breaking up very badly, to the point they can't even hear me hardly.

I have tried the front panel mic and the back of pc mic.....still the same.

Am I missing something on my end?
Or do I just have a bad microphone? Here is a link to my headset.

What ever voice client your using could have a bad codec. I know that ventrilo will let you change it in a menu.

I just bought and installed a new hardrive into my home built computer. I am running XP Professional, and after plugging in my speaker system into the computer, I still have no sound.

Also when I try and test the microphone I cant select the headset since everything shows up as my speaker system.
My questions are:

1. How do I make the sound work on my machine?

2. How do I get the headset to work?

Thank you.

I recently got the SADES SA-708 and to my surprise the microphone was not working. I have tested it on another laptop so I know it's not a problem with my headset. I'm not even sure if my computer is recognizing the headset. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Headset microphone not working

Normally, the Stereo Mix (may be called System Mixer) is set as the default Recording Device. Then whatever is plugged in can be heard, without having to specifically select a device.

Did you download the driver from the Dell downloads? If not, that is the first thing to do.

Product Support | Dell US

To set the Stereo Mix, in the Recording panel, RIGHT click in an empty space and then click to select show Disabled and Disconnected Devices. Stereo Mix should now show up and you can enable it and make it the Default Recording device. System Mixer is required if you ever want to record audio from the Internet.

Finally, has this ever worked? or is this the first time you've tried the mic input.

Hello,

Recently I bought a Turtle Beach Earforce X12 headset. And the sound works fine but when I tried out
the Microphone nothing happened, like it wasn't there. I have updated my drivers several times tried but no success. When I go to Recording section in Sound, it shows the microphone as a default device but when I click on it there is a red light not a green light

Answer:My headset microphone not working

The first thing I see is you do not have the correct RealTek sound driver (what Gigabyte shows for this model) installed. All you have is the generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec driver.

Install the RealTek driver from the Gigabyte downloads for your motherboard as the first step.

It does not appear you have the correct AMD driver installed for your video card either. Go to www.amd.com and download and install the correct driver.

Considering the sound and video do not have the correct drivers, you need to take a look at all the drivers. Gigabyte provides an install disc with all the drivers and apparently that was not used. However, DO NOT install the Gigabyte EasyTune program, if its on the disc as that is known to cause problems. (EasyTune6 was supplied with my Gigabyte motherboard)

One other comment. I seriously doubt that you have 1TB of RAM (Memory). That is probably the size of your hard drive.

Using an SB X-FI Xtreme Audio sound card, windows 7 professional, Turtle Beach (x12) headset.

Months ago my microphone stopped working on my pc, then eventually sound also stopped working. I replaced my sound card with another (SB X-FI Xtreme also) and sound once again worked. However I cannot get my Turtle Beach headset microphone to work, the sound works fine.

What I've tried to resolve the solution:
*Checked to make sure it was in the right hole, of course.
*Downloaded recent device drivers for SB X-fFI Xtreme and install.
*Gone through looking for something that might have muted the microphone;

^ I've been trying to check playback using sound recorder.
*Both this headset and another headset that don't work on my pc are fully functional on my laptop.
*Attempted to uninstall device drivers and reinstalled, also didn't work.

Answer:Headset microphone not working

Where are you plugging in the mic? On the front panel or the mic jack on the SoundBlaster sound card rear I/O panel?

Also, you should set the "What You Hear" as the default recording device. That will allow you to record streaming audio from the internet and also whatever is connected either to the mic or line in will record (assuming all is well). I don't see the What You Hear in your Recording pane. RIGHT click in a blank area in that panel and then LEFT click to show Disabled and Disconnected devices. The What You Hear (what Soundblaster calls the System Mixer or Stereo Mix) should now be shown and you can enable it and make it the default recording device.

As you have a separate sound card, make sure the integrated audio on the motherboard is disabled in the BIOS so it does not conflict. You can only have one default playback device.

I recently purchased the G230 Logitech Gaming Headset. It is a single wired headset that splits into to jack inputs: the microphone and speaker. The speakers work fine and I can hear everything through the headset. However, my mic is not registering and the only recording device functioning is the built in laptop mic on my Alienware M15X.

I have tried adjusting default mics,

Updating drivers,

Rolling back drivers,

Uninstalling and re-installing drivers,

I am running out of ideas. So please help! Here are my specs,

Memory (RAM): 16.0GB

System Type: 64-bit OS, x64-based processor / WINDOWS 10

Sound: Sound Blaster Recon 3Di by Creative Technology Ltd.
